We’re Just Friends-Modern Au! Rhaenyra x Dornish Male Reader
Tumblr media
Pairing: Rhaenyra Targaryen x Dornish Male Reader (House of Blackmont)
Content/Warning: !!🔞 PLUS ONLY!!, age-gap, sexual tension, lots of jealousy, toxic relationship, strap-on penetration, femme-dom, angst, swearing.
Word Count: 2.3k
Summary: You and Rhaenyra have been inseparable since you were kids. She accepted you when you could express who you really were to anyone else and overtime you’ve grown to love her in ways a bestfriend shouldn’t. Should you tell her or is it worth possibly losing a friendship?
Author’s Notes: The content/warning section is something I put on all my stories because it will come up eventually and I like to let everyone know it’s for adults and adults only. Also I’ve somewhat changed the ages of Rhaenyra and her brother Aegon so Jace and everyone else aren’t involved in the story.
Chapter One
You and Rhaenyra first met in secondary school for your first year. You had just moved from Dorne over the summer, being the hot topic of discussion when you arrived Y/N Blackmont. One of the most prestigious families of Westoros in King’s Landing. You were walking down the hall dressed in the normal outfit set out for yourself everyday a preppy button up, a skirt, and some platformed boots.
As everyone knew Dorne was a more accepting culture. Women were sexually liberated and men were allowed to take on the lovers that suited them men or women. But in King’s Landing it was foreign to them and of course ignorance came along with it. The bullying was relentless on your first day only stopping when Rhaenyra Targaryen spoke up for you. She was a few years ahead of you and seemed to be an all around tomboy.
Aegon and his group of dick wads had been the ones making thing difficult for you, following you around nonstop projecting no doubt. “Hey…are you a boy or a girl?” It was a good thing you had thick skin an even sharper tongue. “Why Aegon? Do you think I’m pretty?” He grimaced and cocked a fist back before his older sister grabbed onto his shoulder pulling him aside. “What the fuck are you doing?” She scolded him like a mother.
She was thin and a little taller than an average girl. Her skin pale like snow and eyes the color of lavender. Her silver locks were cut short and her style well let’s just say the both of you were very androgynous. “I’m sorry about my brother he can be a cunt…and you are?” You were a bit shocked that she even bothered to acknowledge you. “Oh yeah it’s okay…I prepared myself for someone to come fucking with me today. I’m Y/N…Y/N Blackmont.”
“Well, Y/N I think you and I are going to great friends…don’t you think?” She wrapped her arm into yours and dragged you away like you were her new prized pet and you two have been inseparable ever since. The years had passed and Rhaenyra had graduated from King’s Landing Prep and went to uni and two years later you soon followed. The two of you had become roommates and every professor and student knew if they saw one of you the other was not too far behind.
It seemed like it took forever for Friday to come, but finally it was here. You had exams to do and Rhaenyra had no classes today so she was at home waiting for you. You decided with how well you did it was time to celebrate so you went to the liquor store and bought a bottle of Dorne’s best tequila. Coming through the door your smile quickly turned into a frown seeing who was on your couch. What the fuck was she doing here?
Rhaenyra’s “girlfriend” Lydia Tyrell, now in the beginning you actually wanted to like her, but it was clear that Ms. Tyrell wanted to be the only important person in Rhaenyra’s life. She made it a point to always make the plan you two made fall through. She often threw snarky jabs at you that Rhaenyra was to cunt drunk to pick up on, but you endured for the happiness of your friend.
“Oh..Lydia…you’re here…” You tried to seem happy about her being there, but you failed horribly. “Y/N..” She responded coldly, soon you were interrupted and your smile returned seeing her come out of her room just as excited to see you. Running to you, Rhaenyra wrapped her arms around you picking you up in the air, were you really that light? You blush. Rhae…put me down please..” you laughed like giddy child before she placed you back on the ground. “So how’d my baby do?” You pulled out the bottle of tequila and squealed. “I passed bitch!!!!” The two of you jumped up and down like highschool girls and Lydia cleared her throat causing the both of you to look her way.
“Umm..congratulations and everything, butttt we have a party to go to tonight. So sorry to cut your celebration so short, love.” A smug smile curled upon her lips. That condescending little cunt. You gritted your teeth into a cheerful grin. “Oh no it’s fine you made plans before this so it’s no biggy.” Rhaenyra pulled you in to whisper something to you. “We can get fucked up when I get back I promise.” She pulled away smiling at you with that smile that gave you butterflies sometimes. Lydia looked like she could’ve puked and you relished how annoyed you made her. “But while you wait Aegon said he was coming by he wanted to talk to you.”
“Talk to me about what?” She shrugged. “I think he likes you honestly.” You scoffed and gagged. “You’re not trying to hook me up with your brother. The same brother that bullied me, because of how I dress and identify? I think the fuck not..” She winced, remembering just how bad he treated you. “Yes you are right. You know he actually came out last year. And he’s been talking about you nonstop for some reason.”
“I’m not the least bit attracted to him so no.” Rhaenyra rolled her eyes and playfully popped the back of your thigh. “Well, you should find someone you like…you’ve never had a boyfriend or girlfriend since I’ve known you.” She was right you weren’t too good at dating. You were a bit awkward with affection and girls didn’t actually gravitate to you since you were on the feminine side yourself. “Rhae…you know I would like my own person…but people don’t stick around long enough to get past all of this.” You sighed
“But, I’ll be fine my toys are my lovers.” You chuckled and Rhae gave you this look that you couldn’t quite read, but it made you nervous. “Well, I’m going to take a shower and start getting drunk in my room. You two have fun at your party. Love ya.” You said sweetly before disappearing in the back of the apartment. “Love you too.” She yelled in your direction.
You sighed after your shower taking two shots of the harsh but smooth spirit. You blasted your music hearing your best friend and her bitch of a girlfriend going at it in the next room…gross. Soon you heard a knock on the door and you got up to answer. You were in some spandex shorts and a crop top. Your dark locks still wet from the shower were pinned up with a hair clip. Opening the door it was her brother. “Hey, Y/N. Can I come in? I brought party favors.” He held up two bottles of tequila and you smiled somewhat. “Oh yeah come in, let me go get my bottle from my room.” You noticed his wandering eyes and gave him a cheeky smile. “Yeah I know I look good.” you teased.
Once you were back you sat on the couch next to him and turned on the tv, the silence between the two of you was deafening. “So I heard you passed your exam.” This was how he was going to start the conversation? “Oh yeah. I kinda psyched myself out, but I got a perfect score.” He smiled giving you a friendly push, “That’s good. You’re pretty damn smart any way.” You smile, “Thanks.” He cleared his throat again you could sense him getting a tad nervous. “So…Y/N first and foremost I want to apologize for the way I treated you when we were kids. I’m was an idiot, trying to deal with my own shit and I don’t know if Nyra has told you, but I’m gay…” You listened intently knowing where this was probably headed. “When did you figure that out?”
He smiled and looked down to his shoes before his lavender gaze found your sweet pools of honey. “If I’m being honest around the time I saw you..” That was a shocker you basically despised one another or so you thought. “Oh so you were taking your insecurities out on me?” He looked away from you and sighed. “Look, I’ve been thinking about how I was going to say this all day, but I like you a lot..and I was hoping we could start over and I could take you out?”
You smiled a bit and thought about it honestly what could it hurt a date could only either go great or not like they plan but forgiving him wouldn’t hurt you either. “Okay, well I forgive you and sure you can take me out on a date.” He smiled and hugged you kissing your cheek. Your cheeks flushed and you opened your mouth to speak, but you were interrupted by Lydia barging out of Rhaenyra’s room. “I’m fucking sick of this! You always take him everywhere we go. On dates, movies, parties…when can I ever have you to myself.”
Rhaenyra was seething her face red with anger. “I’ve noticed you don’t like him and I want to know why? He’s done nothing, but be nice to you and you insist on being a cold bitch!” Lydia was in shock, you and Aegon were meer bystanders. “I wouldn’t be so bothered by Y/N if you weren’t so clearly in love with him.”Lydia stormed out and Rhaenyra turned to you. Aegon hopped up going into the kitchen to grab some shot glasses. “Time to get fucked up!” He yelled and you laughed nervously, grabbing Rhaenyra’s hand.
“Let me talk to her for a second..we will be back.” He nodded and you pulled her into your room. “What the fuck just happened?” You asked and Rhaenyra bursted into tears. “I mentioned that I wanted you to come with us I know how nervous you were about being alone with my brother and I said it would be a good idea for you to maybe meet someone there…and that’s when she stormed out…I know I’ve been oblivious to how she’s treated you the last two years, but she’s brought you up so much lately. Starting arguments about you specifically asking why do you have to live here as if I’d kick you out for her.”
You pulled her into your chest for a hug and sighed rocking her slowly. “It’s alright she was a bitch anyway I only tolerated her, because I wanted you to be happy.” She held onto your slender waist tightly and sighed. “Why didn’t you tell me? I would’ve broken it off with her as soon as you told me.” You sigh humming. “I just wanted you to be happy Rhae.” She could hear your heart beating..oh how it pounded with her laying on you this way. “Maybe we should go take some shots.” You picked her up and led her to the kitchen.
Later that night you all were drunk off your asses and you and Aegon were getting rather acquainted with each other dancing and laughing together. Rhaenyra watched them closely and sulked the green with jealousy. Then you favorite song came on and she stood up to take you away from her little brother and held you from behind swaying you. You melted into her, her brother long passed out once he hit the couch. She sang to you and you smiled shivers going down your spine as she place a sweet kiss against your shoulder.
“She was right…” you look out of the corner of your eye. “What?” Her voice a soft whisper, “Lydia…she was right..I love you.” You laughed nervously “Of course I love you too, you’re my bestfriend, Rhae.” She shook her head and pulled you away into her room locking the door behind you. She called you by the nick name she had given and seemed to be fighting with herself. “No…I want you, Y/N. You don’t understand how badly I want you.” You were still dizzy from the tequila, but she said it. “But, I thought you only liked girls…what about Lydia…what about Aegon?”
She chuckled, “Fuck her and he can always find someone else. And I do mostly…but I like you too.” Her hands soft cupped you delicately chiseled face and pulled you in for a kiss. The taste of the tequila on her tongue excited you. Her hands quickly finding their way on your body. Your slender yet toned frame was surprisingly soft like that of the women she’s had before.
“Rhaenyra…” You whimpered her name and she cooed inhaling your scent. You smelled sweet like vanilla and she groaned reaching into you shorts grabbing onto your tones buttocks your hands reaching up her tank top to cup her breasts. Catching your lips again she moaned into them and bit at the soft supple flesh of your bottom lip. Your cock twitching within your shorts.
She of course had the upper hand dominating you with just a kiss. She a hand to the front of your short cupping your cock squeezing slightly you gasped causing you to leak into her hand. “You’re pathetic you know that…” She looked at you and smiled leaning in to kiss you again when you both heard a loud crash and Aegon yelling something inaudible… “Fuck..” you both hiss. “Rhaenyra opened the door and walked out first. “What the fuck have you broken now?” She groaned “Aegon, my fucking coffee table?!?!”
You laughed soon following behind her. He tried getting up to piss, in his words and fell in the coffee table. She sighed holding two fingers to the bridge of her nose and you were seeing if he was okay. The two of you carried him to her bed and then went back to clean up the mess in the living room. “Would you like to come sleep with me tonight?” By the time you two were finished you were far to exhausted to continue with what had just so instead she wrapped her arms about you and laid on your chest while you fingers slid up and down her back. She fell asleep, but you stayed awake wondering what was to happen now..
To be continued…

How I Avoid Embarrassment When Asking Basic Questions
Hi, my name is Andie and my goal is to help average students get into their dream colleges by becoming excellent test takers.
Asking questions people believe (or assume) you should already know the answer to can be stressful and lead to embarrassment. When I was taking AP US History, I had a friend who constantly asked really basic questions frequently. Whenever her hand would go up, groans would sound around the classroom. I hated that for her, and started telling her to just ask me first and if I couldn't answer it then ask the teacher. And she thanked me, but declined. She was super confident and didn't care if anyone else was annoyed at her for seeking clarification.
There have been many times when I didn't ask a question I really needed to understand the answer to because I couldn't get over the embarrassment of asking such a "simple" question. Thinking back to this class and her confidence sometimes gave me the push I needed to just do it. But, that spark of confidence was fleeting and unsustainable. So, if anyone else is struggling with asking these types of questions, I would like to offer some tips on what has worked for me:
Find someone you trust to ask. I lucked out when taking calculus that I had a TA who was kind and non-judgemental. There were times I would show up to office hours and would struggle through elementary concepts. Fortunately, he was willing to break everything down even if the concept was simple and something I should remember learning a long time ago. Finding someone, be it another student or a teacher for a different class, that you know will be kind and explain whatever you're struggling with non-judgmentally can be really helpful when trying to push past the embarrassment of not knowing something and asking for help.
Google it. While I don't recommend becoming too reliant on tools such as WolframAlpha, Symbolab, etc. sometimes you may need to search their sites (and potentially sign up for a free trial) in order to see the problem broken down step-by-step. This way you're "asking" your question and not having to worry about what people will think of you because of it.
Send an email. Somethings are easier to ask via email.
If you're in class or choosing to ask questions face-to-face and the person you're asking says something along the lines of "you should already know this", keep this in mind:
It's important to remember that it's okay not to know everything, and it's better to ask for help than to pretend that you know something you don't. By letting them know that you don't know the answer and asking for help, you show that you are trying to learn.
Some responses you can consider to "you should already know this" are:
"I'm sorry, but I don't actually know the answer. Could you explain it to me?"
"I understand that I probably should know the answer, but I don't. Could you help me out?"
"I know I'm supposed to know this, but I'm not sure what the answer is. Could you help me?"
Don't be discouraged if you're preparing for an exam and you come across information you don't know or problems you don't know how to solve. My goal is to help you learn some strategies for improvement so you can master the content and get an excellent exam score! If you’re using this to help figure out how you can prepare for your upcoming exam, I hope you found value in this article. If you did, please like it and share with a friend! And, I would love to hear what topics you would like for me to cover next!
You've Got This,
Andie

Cfa Level 1 Best Online Coaching | The top 5 CFA prep courses and study guide
Tumblr media
Understanding the difference between CFA level 1 coaching online and CFA level 2 will act as a guide to setting up a study plan for the CFA level 2 exam. The candidate needs to ensure the score set by the CFA Institute to pass the CFA level 2 exam.
The average passing rate for CFA level 2 is 46% and it was much lower in 2021. So, every candidate must have a dedicated study plan for each level.
If you are motivated enough, then there is a chance that you can clear the CFA level 2 exam in the first go.
Start Early preparations
Start your CFA level 2 preparations six to nine months before the actual exam. As per the CFA charter holders, the reason behind their success is the study routine that they have been following during their CFA exam journey.
CFA level 2 is more of an application-based exam where you have to apply what you have studied during the exam. It takes some time to develop an understanding of practical applications. Therefore, you need to practice daily.
CFA level 2 study Hours
As stated earlier, you should start your preparations six to nine months before the actual exam along with 300 hours of study hours.
If this seems daunting to you, then target to complete your online CFA classes curriculum in nine months instead of six months. You can complete your CFA curriculum in six months only if you can study for long hours.
CFA level 2 study sessions
Many CFA candidates have witnessed that they took 80-100 sessions across your six-nine month prep along with a few occasional off. But if you are one of those who prefer to take frequent days off, then you need to take 60 sessions as you will be able to devote 5.5 hours per session
CFA level 2 curriculum
Before starting with CFA level 2 prep, you need to have a solid understanding of the CFA curriculum and weightage for CFA level 2 subjects. All three levels of CFA focus on the same core topics and are updated annually.
There are 10 subjects which are the same in all the three levels but their weightage may vary according to the levels.
Given below is the weightage for CFA level 2 subjects updated by the CFA Institute:-
SUBJECTS
WEIGHTAGE
Ethical and Professional Standards
10-15%
Quantitative Methods
5-10%
Economics
5-10%
Financial Statement Analysis
10-15%
Corporate Issuers
5-10%
Equity Investments
10-15%
Fixed Income
10-15%
Derivatives
5-10%
Alternative Investments
5-10%
Portfolio Management and Wealth Planning
10-15%
Unlike Best CFA Coaching online level 1 which focused on the comprehension and knowledge of investment tools on the other hand CFA level 2 focuses on the application of that knowledge along with in-depth analyses of asset classes.
Before deciding how much time to devote to each subject, analyze your weak and strong areas. Since all the subjects are the same in all three levels, you get aware of your strong and weak subjects after passing CFA level 1.
Divide your time accordingly and don't lose the sight of subject weightage of the CFA level 2.
CFA level 2 exam format
CFA level 2 exam consists of item sets that either emphasize one topic or a combination of topics. These item sets are preceded by a short vignette.
CFA level 2 study material
Only 55% of the test takers pass CFA level 2 in the first go. You need to make sure you get the best study material to prepare for the exam.
There are many prep courses available out there, but it becomes difficult when it comes to choosing the best. Let me help you.

Things are going. Finished my outpatient Family Planning rotation and loved it. Lots of bimanual exams, speculum exams, transabdominal dating ultrasounds, and cervical blocks. And the hours were nice!
Now I'm on SICU. It's a lot, but I do like it. Even though the hours are long (6 AM - 6 PM), I they usually let me off early. I might get to write a case report, which is cool! We round for hours. I feel gratified in my decision to pursue OB/GYN and not general surgery because I don't care about anything outside the abdomen and pelvis.
ERAS is coming along. I've capped my program list at 55. I have about 18% safety, 45% average, and 37% reach. It's hard to decide what is what because with my step scores most are average at worst, but with my grades I could be construed as less competitive. Plus I have like no honors or awards. It's fine. All my letters have been requested. 3/5 are in. I've finished my personal statement and have a couple different versions. ERAS experiences have been filled in and just need editing. Next comes prepping interview questions and making sure I know enough about the shit on my application to talk about it if asked (hellllooo undergraduate research).
I started working out again. Took the month I was on vacation and on outpatient off because I don't have a parking pass and it's mid-ninties here so I was NOT about to walk to campus after finishing shifts. But I'm back on campus for SICU so it's lifting 2x/week + pole 1x/week. And then trying to keep my apartment clean in the meantime but it's so hard!!! It's so easy to get cluttered.
Today I caught up on things, finally wrote a discussion for my manuscript I should have had done a month or two ago. I still haven't sent some e-mails for curriculum reform (both to my school and to MSFC). I did get groceries, do my laundry (in process), and do my dishes. And I'm slowly de-cluttering. Briefly read up on the SICU patients I'm familiar with for tomorrow and now I'm trying to learn about mechanical ventilation using Marino's The ICU Book. IT'S SO BORING. But I volunteered myself to learn about it and I need to both brush up on the basics and on extubation readiness.
Hopefully I won't be too tired to read for pleasure before bed!!!
hope ya'll are well

Schools Re-imagined
Okay fellow guys, gays and ladies (all beings are invited), TODAY on quaran-talks (get it, quarantine but replace the tine with talks, never mind), we will be
“RE-IMAGINING SCHOOLS” (Mostly High school and it’s equivalents around the world)
so that they actually do their job and prepare us for the real world, which they haven’t. They have, however given me sleep-deprived days, traumatic memories and snakes for friends.
ASPECT NUMBER ONE
Changing when school starts. I mean, whose lovely idea was to start school at 8.00. Many schools also start schools at 8.30 but lord, imagine how happy we all will be if schools opened a little later.
According to the National Sleep Foundation, the sleep requirement for teenagers is between 8-10 hours per night. That indicates that the earliest healthy wake-up time for teens should not be before 7 a.m.
I propose that schools start not earlier than 9.00 am. That way one does not have to bear with the absolute feeling of grogginess of completing tasks on auto-pilot (when you complete tasks by doing the bare minimum because your brain is not awake), not rushing through morning routines (rushing can cause stress and anxiety) and can start the day on a good note.  All those you thrive on 3-4 hour naps, it is in no way healthy and in some ways, not even your mistake. Moving on,
ASPECT NUMBER TWO
The marvellous blame-game. The student is usually the pawn. Don’t get the concept while in class, the teacher will probably say that you weren’t listening.
Ma’am or Sir, it’s your job to make sure the students understand what you teach. Be patient and stop telling them it’s wrong if they don’t understand the concept. It won’t hurt if you take out some time and teach them the concept again.
If you don’t get the concept during homework and use the reference guide, the parents will usually say that they weren’t paying attention in class and should know it. The reference material was made for a reason, and that was so that the student could use it. If the student wasn’t able to understand in class, there is a high chance they would be able to understand it on their own with their own research. Don’t doubt a student’s ability, even a little pat on the back can go a long way. More on this later.
ASPECT NUMBER THREE
A very popular opinion is that schools kill creativity. They don’t out right kill it, they just suppress it until it never come backs. In other words, it’s there but not quite. (confusing, just like the world’s education system). If the student says a wrong answer, don’t outright say no or prompt the class to laugh at them. Question their understanding in a polite way.  Promote creative thinking and finding different ways of solving problems. Creativity can be found in all subjects, you just need to find a will. Don’t suppress interests such as liking of a particular aesthetic, genre of music or style.
ASPECT NUMBER FOUR
There is no space for individuality. Uniforms are okay because you don’t have to go through the hassle of picking out clothes but limiting other choices such as style of hair, use of accessories and nail polish and colour of hair should not dictate what kind of a student they are. Teachers and Administration should not care about these things because every student needs their own way of showing creativity. These things do not dictate what kind of student they are. There is a common misconception that students who do the above mentioned things will distract students and disrupt the class. The students usually compliment or comment on it and move on with their day. The teachers, however will call them out, fine them, give them detention or some other kind of punishment. The only people that are getting distracted here is the staff who takes the time out of their day to call a student out on their mode of expression. All those teachers who support their students’ choices are pure gems and deserve all the love in the world.
ASPECT NUMBER FIVE
The ungodly amount of homework. This is an extension of ‘aspect number two.’ I along with many other teenagers believe that the homework should be limited to two hours a day. No, I don’t mean two hours per subject. I mean two hours total. It can be extended to 3.5 hours but not more than that. Take the example of a GCSE student. A normal student takes about 9-12 subjects. Depending on the intensity of the subjects, the student should spend about 15-20 minutes per subject. During tests and exam weeks, this can be bumped up to 5 hours but still, testing a student’s skills of memorization does not prepare them for the real world. After spending six hours in school, this time should be taken to go over material and identify weak points in their understanding, not increasing stress.
ASPECT NUMBER SIX
The unhealthy expectations which really effect a teenager’s mind, and not in a good way. Many people are out here judging a student who excels in art on it’s ability to do STEM subjects, and vice versa. That’s like judging a fish's ability to climb a tree. Let the student pursue what they like without a thought in their head, “what will everyone think of me.” As a human being, they’d support and not belittle your choices. Let them pursue what they like. If they get bad grades, ask them about it. Don’t start shouting. Teachers, do not announce grades in class, you are literally creating students who build up low self-esteem. How hard is it to understand that teenagers are human beings. They’ll learn. If a previously-gifted student gets a bad grade, don’t make them feel bad about it.
ASPECT NUMBER SEVEN
Actually take a stand on matters that make sense. Stop bullies, racists, homophobes and sexists. Don’t go around nit-picking students who have long nails and unkempt hair or uniform if you have these problems roaming around. That just says that you are only caring about your outer appearance at the expense that most of your students will grow up to be ignorant citizens. A teenager mirrors their surroundings and if you can create a positive surrounding, it’s your part towards a more understanding society.
ASPECT NUMBER EIGHT
WHO thought that giving extra homework on weekends would be a good idea. Like, WHY? Weekends should be for relaxation and for revising topics. Wouldn’t it make sense if students took time to, I don’t know, go over the work from the week. That way, the information can be retained for a longer time. I also present to you the idea of making open book tests the norm. What many schools don’t understand that not everyone can memorize entire books. A student who does well on assignments but not on exams clearly shows that they understand but can’t remember it. The real world clearly shows that you don’t need to remember things because resources will always be at your disposal. A student should know how to apply concepts because 85% of the stuff they learn in school is utterly useless in real life. The remaining 15% are basics of subjects which should be learned.
ASPECT NUMBER NINE
The schools either need counselors that actually do their job or teachers that are willing to go the extra mile. Counselors need to understand the students’ situation and help them. Don’t blame everything on the phone. (Phones are least of our problems). Normalize opposite-gender friendships. Lastly, with classes algebra and all that, wouldn’t also having classes like etiquette's, how to file taxes and other worldly classes actually help.
REVISED TIMETABLE
As per the guidelines above.
Biological sleep patterns shift toward later times for both sleeping and waking during adolescence -- meaning it is natural to not be able to fall asleep before 11:00 pm.
Sleep between 11:00-11.30 pm. Wake up at 7:45 am (Assuming you slept at 23.15 which is the halfway point, you got a sleep of 8.5 hours, which is healthy)Getting ready and having breakfast at a peaceful pace takes an average of 15 minutes. You will be done by 8:15 am. An average school commute takes about 30 minutes so you should have 15 minutes to spare before 8:30 am strikes and you leave for school.School starts at 9.00 am and ends at 3.00 pm. (Schools here last for 6 hours).Go for extra-curricular activities. On average, extra-curricular activities last for 1.5 hours so you should be free by 4.30-5.00 pm. That leaves you with 6 hours. Even if you take an hour long nap and take exactly 2 hours,no more or less for your homework, you will still be left with 3 hours of leisure. These 6 hours can be scheduled how ever you like.
Now compare it to my timetable that was in place before the lock down. I woke up 6.00 am (Usually woke up early to complete homework which was impossible to complete yesterday) Left home for school at 7.15 am, usually made up for sleep in the  car.
Reached school by 7.45. School started at 7.50 am and went on till 2.00 pm. All extra curricular activities were suspended due to tests and exam prep. Reached home at 2.40 pm. (Was picked up from school at 2.10 pm because group assignments roles cannot be assigned in class for some stupid reason so a lot of work has to be done outside class).
Refresh and have lunch, start homework at 3.00 pm. Went on till 5.00 pm, took a 15-minute break and again continued till 9.00 pm (This is just homework). Picked up the assigned reading and assignments, that went on till 10.00 pm. Time with family till 10.45 pm.
These were the good days. The days I was assigned art homework were torture. I have gone to school with only 3 hours of sleep many weeks.
For a system that is suppose to help the students, the education system sure does hate students.

in which Draco needs to ace Herbology
Part 1/? (I don’t know how long this is going to end up being lol)
https://archiveofourown.org/works/25758838/chapters/62556034
Setting: Hogwarts, 3rd year
Content warnings: None. Contains subtle hints of Drarry (with more to come)
Summary: Star student Draco Malfoy is acing all his courses...except Herbology. His father threatens to pull Draco out of Quidditch if he doesn’t get straight As on all his exams, and with time running out before the Herbology final, a desperate Draco finds himself reluctantly accepting help from a most unlikely source.
Featuring: Draco Malfoy, Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Draco!” Lucius Malfoy’s cold, stern voice reverberated throughout the Great Hall, causing many heads to turn to the Howler that had just flown in to interrupt everyone’s luncheon. Draco Malfoy put his head into his hands as his father’s voice began to berate him about his mid-term progress grades. “Your school performance thus far is highly unsatisfactory.” Draco got mostly As with a few Bs. “Don’t you dare tarnish our family name with a B again. If you don’t bring your average up to an A by winter break, I’m taking you off the Quidditch team!” The letter promptly burst into flame and burned into a little pile of ash on the table. Draco’s Quidditch teammates looked at him with worry and discomfort at the thought of losing their star Seeker, while quiet chuckles and snickers came from the other tables.
“Bloody hell!” exclaimed Ron Weasley, turning to a wide-eyed Harry Potter. “What are them Slytherins going to do without Malfoy hunting you down every game, Harry?”
Hermione Granger shrugged. “I suppose Gryffindor is going to start winning a lot more matches.”
“I guess so,” agreed Harry absent-mindedly. According to Harry, Draco Malfoy had a lot of deficiencies, but intelligence was definitely not one of them. Lucius Malfoy’s standards must have been very demanding. The trio, along with just about everyone else, watched as a sullen Draco pushed away his half-eaten lunch and slinked out of the Hall.
-
The loud cheers faded into the background as Harry strode into the locker room. His last Quidditch match of the term had just ended with a Slytherin victory, but he was still in good spirits, energized by the lingering sensation of the cool autumn wind in his hair and on his cheeks. He took his time changing out of uniform and back into his regular school robes, aware that this was the last time he would get to do so until next term. By the time Harry started to walk casually towards the exit, nearly all the other players had already gone. But in the corner of Harry’s eye, he spotted a lone hunched-over figure sitting on one of the benches, his blond hair hanging over his eyes. Harry hesitantly turned away from the exit and towards Draco Malfoy. Harry was used to Draco’s excessive gloating after every Slytherin victory, yet despite the fact that he had just secured the win for his team that day, Draco seemed pretty downcast.
“Is your dad really going to take you out of Quidditch because of bad grades?” Harry inquired. “You seemed to be doing pretty well in Potions.”
Draco glared up at him with stormy grey eyes. “I’m acing Potions. It’s Herbology that’s the trouble. It’s boring and useless -” (Harry shrugged understandingly; he never cared much about plants either) “- and Professor Sprout never grades me fairly. I suppose that teacher’s pet Granger doesn’t have that problem, does she, Potter?” Draco sneered. His hostile expression quickly weakened, however, as he looked around the familiar locker room.
Since the classroom environment was so restrictive, the only time Draco ever felt truly powerful was when he blasted through the air on his broom, knocking opponents out of the way and skilfully dodging obstacles as he chased victory and received the cheers and admiration of his peers. He couldn’t imagine his life at Hogwarts without Quidditch.
Draco groaned in frustration and ran his hands through his hair as Harry stood there awkwardly. He knew Draco needed help, but he also knew the proud Slytherin would never ask. He arguably didn’t even deserve help, but Harry found himself thinking about how terrible he would feel in Draco’s current position. Powerless, and desperate, even. An idea began to come alight in Harry’s mind.
“Why don’t you…” Harry started carefully, “…come study with us? Hermione got ‘perfect’ on her last assignment – which I honestly didn’t even know was possible – and she could teach you all her tricks. She’s smarter than anyone I know.”
“Oh, yeah. Exam prep with the Mudblood, the Weasel, and the Wonder Boy. Sounds great,” Draco retorted sarcastically. “The noble, virtuous Saint Potter, rescuing me from my plight!”
Harry rolled his eyes. “Listen, Malfoy. You either ace Herbology or you never get to knock me out of the sky again. You choose.” Harry stared Draco straight in the eye, as if challenging him. How far would he let his pride go?
Draco clenched his jaw and turned away from Harry’s intense gaze. Crabb & Goyle certainly weren’t ideal study partners, and Draco didn’t exactly have a cooperative reputation even in his own House. The Herbology final was mere days away and his options were narrow. “No one can see us together. It’ll be the first and the last time I ever choose to be around you lot.”
If Harry didn’t know any better, Draco was making it sound like they were going to start secretly dating or something. Harry fought off a smug smile. “We know a pretty secluded area of the studying commons. It’ll only be a couple of days, really.” Draco did not protest, so Harry continued. “Bring your book and notes and meet me after dinner tomorrow at the studying commons entrance, and we’ll get it done. You’ll see what kind of a whiz Hermione really is.”
Draco sighed. “Fine. But you better keep out of my sight until then, Potter.”
“Gladly,” Harry smirked. “Tomorrow, then.”
Draco shook his head as Harry left, feeling his stomach sinking as he processed what he just agreed to. Studying help from the three Hogwarts students he despised most. This better be worth it.
-
Harry ran into the Gryffindor common room where his friends were relaxing and enjoying their downtime. “Hey, guys!” he whispered to Ron and Hermione, gesturing for them to come closer. “I’ve got some news to tell you!” Ron and Hermione shared a confused glance, and went over to their grinning friend. They looked at Harry expectantly. His bright eyes were glinting with excitement (and a hint of panic), and he paused for effect.
“…Draco Malfoy is going to be studying with us for the Herbology final!”
“Hah!” Ron guffawed loudly. “Good one, mate!”
“Very funny, Harry,” said Hermione with her arms crossed. “Now what were you really going to tell us?”
“No, really!” Harry persisted. “He needs to get an A in Herbology to stay on the Quidditch team, and I told him all about how smart you are, Hermione.”
“Oh please, you can’t be serious, Harry!” Hermione exclaimed. “He’s done nothing but be awful to us!”
“She’s right, mate!” Ron echoed. “Bloody good riddance if he’s off Quidditch!”
“No, listen, don’t you see?” Harry insisted in a conspiratorial whisper. “If we help him…he owes us.” He gestured to Ron. “We can get him to stop calling you ‘Weasel’!” He pivoted to Hermione. “And we can get him to stop calling you…you know…that.” Hermione crossed her arms even tighter.
“The point is,” Harry concluded, “If we’re nice to him and we help him out just this once, maybe he’ll be more decent towards us too. I didn’t come to Hogwarts to make enemies. And honestly, Quidditch wouldn’t really be the same without him.”
“Yeah, we’d win more,” Ron scoffed. “I don’t think this is a good idea, mate.”
“Just trust me, guys,” said Harry. “If it turns out to be a disaster you can say ‘I told you so’.”
“You can count on that,” Hermione said with a smirk. Harry grinned and left to go upstairs. As soon as he was out of sight, Ron turned to her with an anxious expression.
“What do you really think of all this, ‘Mione?”
She let out a deep sigh. “I think…that no amount of niceties or politeness or favours could ever make someone like Malfoy think any more highly of anybody like me or you.” Ron looked down at the floor. “I’m just going to go through with this for Harry.”
“What do you suppose he thinks of Harry, then?” Ron inquired.
Hermione looked into the distance thoughtfully. “I’ve always thought that Malfoy’s jealous of Harry. For having real friends, and being popular without having to treat anyone horribly. I’ve never known anyone as rude as Malfoy.” Hermione shook her head. “I don’t understand why Harry thinks this is going to work.”
Ron nodded dismally. “I’m going to talk to him about it tonight. Don’t worry.”
-
“Harry?” Ron said quietly as he untucked the covers and climbed into his bed.
“Yeah, Ron?” Harry replied, already lying down and staring up at the ceiling, his glasses sitting on the bedside table.
“Why do you want to help Malfoy?” Ron asked honestly. “He’d never do anything of the sort for us. ‘Mione and I are worried, you see. We can’t trust him.”
Harry sighed, still looking up at the ceiling. “I don’t know. I just had a feeling. What would you do, Ron, if you weren’t allowed to play Quidditch anymore?”
Ron tried to visualize himself in that position. “I reckon I’d feel pretty angry. I’d do anything to stay on the squad.”
Harry knew Ron would feel the same way he did about that. “Now just imagine Malfoy next term, all angry and bitter now that he can’t play anymore, and then he sees us walking down the hall celebrating all our wins.”
A terrible realization dawned on Ron. “Blimey, he’d be even worse to us than he was before. Hermione said he’s jealous enough of you already.”
Harry chuckled. “I really didn’t even expect him to agree to come study with us. Though he did make me promise to stay out of his sight until then. Not sure how that’s going to happen since we have the same class tomorrow morning.” This prompted a giggle from Ron.
“We’re all going to be a bunch of chums,” Ron joked as he turned over and squirmed into a comfy position to drift off into an uneasy sleep.
-
Harry stood outside the entrance to the studying commons near the library, arms crossed. That morning in their last Potions class of the term, Malfoy did not look his way even once. Not even when Neville accidentally spilled the wrong ingredient into Harry’s brew and it bubbled over and poured all over the table. During dinner, Draco sat with his head down the whole time, barely saying a word to his friends who were loudly squabbling over all manner of petty topics. Ron had elbowed Harry and asked why he was watching Malfoy like a hawk all day, while Draco had done everything possible to avoid Potter’s gaze. “I’m just not used to it, I guess,” Harry replied. “He didn’t even say anything when Neville made my brew spill over.”
Hermione shrugged. “I guess he’s just dreading spending time with us as much as we are.”
Now Harry was standing there, waiting for the lively-turned-sullen Slytherin to show up. Hermione and Ron were already seated inside (Hermione was amassing an intimidating stack of textbooks to scrutinise). Finally, a pale blond head emerged out of the shadows. Draco slinked over to Harry, book bag over his shoulder.
“Hello, Malfoy,” said Harry politely.
“Potter,” Draco curtly replied. “Let’s get this over with.” Harry fought the urge to smirk, enjoying Draco’s evident displeasure with the situation. No matter how much Malfoy didn’t like it, he needed their help and he was here.
“Follow me,” Harry said, leading Draco into the large room of studying desks and chairs tucked away between bookshelves full of large, musty academic volumes. Some students were clustered together in small groups in different pockets of the room, but despite the quiet hum of voices and flipping pages, the place did not feel particularly busy. A few lamps here and there offered some dim reading light. Draco looked around as if he hadn’t been here many times before.
As promised, Harry led his rival-turned-study-buddy into a far corner of the commons hidden away behind tall bookshelves, where Ron looked on in despair as Hermione laid yet another massive volume on top of her studying pile. The anxious red-head turned to see Harry enter, hoping for some good news, but alas. There was Draco Malfoy, their haughty tormentor. Except now he was standing there uncomfortably, fidgeting with the strap of his book bag.
“Hey, guys,” Harry sighed. “I’m sure you all know Draco Malfoy,” he joked half-heartedly.
Hermione rolled her eyes. “Sit down, Draco.” She ordered, pointing at the empty chair in front of her, beside Ron. Ron looked from Hermione to Draco to the seat, and he jumped up and clambered into the chair beside Hermione to avoid sitting next to the awkward Slytherin. Draco narrowed his eyes and reluctantly took his seat, followed by Harry sitting down beside Draco where Ron was glad not to be.
“Alright, then,” Hermione began, clearing her throat and smoothing out her frizzy hair. She hoped going into full-on study mode would successfully distract her from her uneasiness. Ron watched the beady-eyed Slytherin look around the room once more before reluctantly turning his attention to the large stack of books on the table. “Let’s start with the basics,” said Hermione, lifting a thick volume detailing the magical properties of thousands of plants off the stack and placing it on the table with a thud.
This is going to be a long night, thought all four of them.
-
“Blimey, Harry!” Ron exclaimed as Draco smiled smugly and Hermione shook her head in exasperation. “Everyone knows that Valerian sprigs are a main ingredient in a Forgetfulness Potion!” After going over their notes and looking up more information on some of the plants that Professor Sprout highlighted in class, they had just started quizzing each other on the properties and uses of different herbs.
“Actually, Ronald, I seem to remember you having a particularly hard time recalling the most crucial ingredients of a Forgetfulness Potion,” Hermione remarked. “But honestly, Harry, this is first-year stuff!”
Harry shrugged apologetically. “I know we’re already in Third year, but I’m still not all that familiar with these things. I didn’t grow up in a magical family like Ron or Malfoy, remember?”
“That’s no excuse,” Hermione retorted. “Both my parents are Muggles and I still know everything I need to know to pass my exams.”
Draco scoffed. “No matter how many books you cram into your head, that doesn’t change what you are.” (So far he had done a pretty good job of keeping snarky remarks to a minimum, but as far as he was concerned Hermione had just walked right into that one.)
“And what’s that, exactly?” Ron exclaimed, incensed.
“Remind me why we’re helping him, Harry,” Hermione said bitterly. Draco shot upright but Harry grabbed his arm and plunked him back down in his chair. Draco frowned and brushed his arm off dramatically.
“She’s right, Harry,” Ron argued. “We can’t just let him insult us the way he does. If he wants our help, he has to start acting decent.”
“I don’t need your help!” Draco spat. Harry looked over at him with a Really? expression. Draco looked down at all the extra information he’d added onto his notes. The studying had actually been going pretty well (until this point, that is).
“It doesn’t matter if Hermione’s parents are Muggles,” Ron said, more calmly now but firmly. “She’s bloody brilliant and she can help us all get an A on this bloody final.” Draco didn’t look up.
“Come on, Malfoy. You can keep studying with us until the Herbology final if you just act civil,” Harry told Draco. “We’ve already made a lot of progress. Let’s just keep at it until it’s over.”
Draco sighed in defeat. “Fine.” Without further ado, Hermione reopened one of the textbooks and flipped a few pages to where they were before. “What is Wormwood used in?” she asked in a resolute voice, keeping her eyes firmly glued to the book.
“Draught of Living Death,” Draco replied without missing a beat.
Hermione nodded. “And?”
“And…? What?” Draco was getting annoyed. Ron shook his head, knowing what was imminent.
Hermione sighed in exasperation. “If Professor Sprout asks us that question on the exam, naming one use of a plant is not good enough! We have to show her how much we know, give her all the details we can. Wormwood is an ingredient in Draught of Living Death and Elixir to Induce Euphoria and Shrinking Solution.”
Draco rolled his eyes as Harry and Ron chuckled at Hermione’s meticulousness. She flipped a few pages forward. “Try again. What can stinging nettles be used for?”
Draco recalled that particular plant being mentioned in class. “Dried nettles are used in the Boil-Cure Potion…” Hermione, Ron, and Harry raised their eyebrows expectantly. “And in nettle tea and soup?”
Hermione nodded in satisfaction, but Draco wasn’t done.
“And I heard nettles can improve the glossiness of one’s hair,” he concluded with a smirk, smoothing down his own sleek blond locks and eliciting a chuckle from Harry (and eyerolls from Ron and Hermione).
The rest of the studying session was surprisingly productive. Turns out the four of them could get a lot done when they momentarily put aside their grievances and got to work. By the time they were done Ron felt like his head was swimming with plants and potions. Overall, except for the rough patch in the middle, Harry thought that it went better than he expected.
Harry turned to Draco as they were packing up their notes. “Hey, Malfoy, we’ve still got one more night to study before the exam. Do you want to join us tomorrow?” He half-expected Malfoy to say “No way”.
But Draco just shrugged. “Sure,” he replied. He wasn’t particularly excited about studying with them again but he also had to admit that it wasn’t as bad as he thought it would be. Since he’d gotten this far already, he didn’t see any good reason to stop now. He just hoped he would end up getting that A and it’d all be worth it. He was too tired to worry about his reputation now. Without another word, he slung his book bag over his shoulder and went on his way.
-
“Hey, Malfoy, where you been?” asked Crabb as Draco slinked through the dark Slytherin common room on his way to the dorms.
“Nowhere,” he briskly replied. Realizing that might make him sound a bit suspicious, he quickly rebounded. “Studying. For Herbology.” His friends looked at each other, wondering why Draco was acting a bit odd but not really wanting to ask.
He walked past them without another word and went up to his room. He set his book bag down and sat on his bed, looking out the window at the dark night sky. The more Draco stared out at the sky, the more it seemed to swallow him up in its pitch-black expanse. The only way he could explain how he was feeling right now was “weird”. He was uncertain, about how the exams were going to go, about what the next (hopefully last) study session with Harry and his strange friends was going to be like, about how his father was going to greet him when he comes home for winter break. “Hello, dear son, I’ve missed you”? Not too likely.
If my father cared about me then why would he pull me out of Quidditch? He only cares about himself. And his reputation, Draco thought to himself bitterly, leaning back onto his pillow. As if a B in Third year Herbology would leave such a stain on the family crest. It’s certainly not as embarrassing as studying with Granger and Weasley. The thing that frustrated Draco the most, though, was that he wasn’t as riled up about the studying session as he felt he should’ve been. He didn’t even feel particularly proud of the jab he took at Hermione. When it was his gaggle of friends behind him egging him on, he relished every chance he got to belittle Potter and his sidekicks. But Draco was not on home territory tonight, and there was no one to laugh.
Then Draco sat up with a jolt, suddenly remembering Harry audibly chuckling at Draco’s comment about stinging nettles and silky hair. Draco didn’t know why he was so stunned by the sudden memory of his nemesis Harry Potter laughing at his harmless joke. That moment was probably the friendliest one they’d ever had. Then he recalled Harry quietly and politely, almost carefully, asking if Draco wanted to join them again. Draco remembered the day he met Potter like it was yesterday, and Harry seemed thoroughly disinterested in being friends then, so why was he acting so agreeable now? A deeply buried sentiment started to bubble up to the surface, 11-year-old Draco’s wish to be friends with the famous Harry Potter, to feel like more than his rival.
But Draco’s cynical side pushed these thoughts away. They must be up to something. I don’t care what. I just need that A, he reminded himself yet again. His mind wandered back to when he got up to leave after offending Ron and Hermione, and how Harry just wordlessly pulled him back into his seat. Harry wanted him to stay. Draco stood up and tried to shake these thoughts away. No point in dwelling on it. Things will go back to the way they used to be after the exam.

Things you need for M2 year
So what is M2 year? In most medical schools, its the transition from the super basic sciences to something more relevant to clinical medicine. But in some ways it’s very similar to M1 year: success comes from self-study, long hours at a desk, and culling through resources to find what works so you can pass exams. I thought M2 was much better than M1. I’m not sure if it’s because I was better at studying, “used to the abuse” of med school, or if the material is more interesting. I think the material is more interesting, it makes you feel like: oh yeah! I will be a doctor one day! We are talking about diseases and medicines and not very detailed chemistry! But there is a catch of M2 year. Yes, you have to pass your school’s exams, but what you really are preparing for is Step 1.
Now, it’s your school’s job to prepare you for Step 1, but many med students I talk to feel fundamental untrustworthiness towards advice coming from med school administrators or PhDs. I would argue that most schools know what they are doing, but checking their average Step 1 scores or talking to upperclassmen could resolve, or confirm, your doubt about your school’s advice. Regardless of how good your school is at creating a curriculum that lines up nicely with Step 1, you won’t be successful unless you invest some serious effort into Step 1 prep. So with all this in mind, here are my tips for M2 year. It’s things that help your brain shape up for Step 1 dedicated time, but also cover the details you need to pass curricular exams. I studied my school’s resources (their notes and lectures) with equal effort of the resources below until dedicated Step 1 time:
Pathoma-the perfect supplement to pathology courses. It really IS the entire pathology course. I would watch topics before our path lectures, then reread the chapters when studying.
Sketchy Micro-yes, they have path and pharm now, but the micro part is absolutely essential for success. 2 years later, I still recall each and every bug clearly and remember all the weird nuances about them. I never tried path (I used Pathoma for that), and the Sketchy Pharm was pretty good, but the pictures and stories are inherently more complicated than micro (which is perfect, simple, easy).
Kaplan Qbank-this is not the best Qbank (UWorld is). But this one is pretty cheap and the explanations have something UWorld doesn’t: corresponding page numbers to First Aid. This is perfect for practice. Do 5 questions a day about whatever subject you are learning in path. Analyze the stem and the answers, read the description, and find the corresponding pages in First Aid and read and annotate. You won’t normally take this long to do questions, but it’s a good foundational start.
Willpower to start Step 1 studying amidst normal scheduled studying. this is hard to do, so you need a pretty solid plan. My plan was to go over Pathoma in order and make index cards about all facts I had forgotten (it took me 4 months and I made 2,000 index cards). But I reviewed cards along the way and when dedicated time came along, I had a solid foundation to build on.
Goljan lectures. These are “unofficial” bootleg audio recordings of a genius man giving a Step 1 review course to foreign grads. There are 40 hours worth of material. It’s tough, dense, compact, and takes a long time to get through it. But they are organized by topic in 1 hour “episodes” and they are AMAZING. I would listen to Goljan during our path course and only listen to corresponding lectures. This took about the whole year to do. During dedicated time, I walked outside (or elliptical-ed if it was raining) and listened to them again, at least 1 hour a day. It was a great way to get at least an hour of exercise each day, and his lectures are seriously amazing. You need to “acquire” these from the internet somehow...good luck.
First Aid. Duh, nothing to say here. Except: I only used this when I was doing Kaplan questions and when I did dedicated time. I didn’t have time to use this as a supplement to my regular course work, and I was really happy with my Step 1 score and grades M2 year.
Ways to stay happy/sane. By now, we all know M2 year is going to be just like M1 year. Hopefully over the summer you’ve had time to recharge and prepare for this very weird lifestyle of being alone at a desk for most of the day. My things to keep me happy were
a friend date night each week or two to the one cool restaurant in our town (with wine on tap!). Looking forward to an early cocktail hour on a Sunday night with my friends was great.
A mindless Netflix go-to. I am in my late twenties but I watched ALL of Pretty Little Liars and then Gossip Girl in M2-M3 year. The shows are silly and simple and were perfect for unwinding when I could not imagine reading another book (even one for fun).
Nature walks. I found out later in life I like to hike. I live in a flat place with not many amazing trails, but I found a few and would drive out to new places about once a month. It made me feel like an explorer and I LOVED the peacefulness that comes with a few hours of walking in the woods.

Passion-Based Learning | Chapter 1
Tags/Trigger Warnings: Non-Con/Rape, Hypnosis, Hypnotism, Abuse of Authority, Conditioning, Dehumanization, Master/Pet, Master/Slave, Dom/sub, Brainwashing
[read on AO3 here]
He had first spotted it on his Chemistry Department's bulletin a week ago—set apart from the rest as being the one with the least art, the least color, and the most unassuming font to ever grace an ad. Isaac was just heading back to his dorm from having gotten his third D- in the class when he saw the stark flash of white from the corner of his eye.
A nondescript little flyer, advertising for some home-based, one-on-one tutoring off-campus.
He'd never admit it to his parents, but Isaac thinks he prefers it like that: learning with a real person on the other end. His first and only experience with it was on campus, with the student mentors he had the pleasure of working with last semester, but it was enough to open his eyes to it and never look back. His positive experiences that semester—being heard, listened to, treated as an average person and not another bottom line to satisfy—had made Isaac wonder for the first time whether there was more to learning than what he’s been led to believe all his life: whether classes, academics did not have to be the chores that they were—but something that could be appreciated with others, for their own sake.
He shudders to think what they would say to him now, if only they knew what he was up to. Mingling with everyday folk, and even learning a thing or two from them. But that was what college was all about, wasn’t it? Learning and trying all sorts of things a parent would never approve of, all on your own.
That’s what Isaac is doing now at least, in the passenger’s seat of a cab. It was unfortunate that the student mentors he so loved were unavailable this time around—mainly due to both popular demand and the sheer intensity of classes this semester. Still, all that meant was that he had to expand his search a little more. The two tutors from the flyer had offered help for an impressive breadth of STEM subjects: ranging from Calculus and Physics, General and Organic Chemistry, even to four different branches of biology. He had called the number provided and scheduled for a session for 3:00PM today, for help on Organic Chemistry, and is now on his way to meet them for the very first time. It’s not as if he’s sneaking around doing something awful, and yet Isaac feels a bit of a thrill in this—for being in control of at least one aspect of his life, for the first time.
As he skims the address plaques from the window of the cab, Isaac can't help but wonder about all sorts of things of his new tutors. How old are they? What relationship do the two have with each other? What inspired them both to take on this job? He wonders the reason for their preference to work from a house in the suburbs, as opposed to the luxury of a more established organization. The voice he had heard on the other end of the call last week was Wilfred’s: Caucasian, friendly, probably well in his late forties or fifties. Isaac wonders if it's him who will be tutoring him or the other tutor, Alexander.
Either way, he’s excited to meet them both.
“.. Oh, right here please. Thank you.”
He tips the driver and steps out of the vehicle with his belongings. Walking up to the welcome mat laid neatly under the white wooden door, he rings the doorbell and waits.
The neighborhood here is nice. It’s a quiet little cul-de-sac: a modest row of brownstone houses all lined up one after another, like a looping trail of dominoes. Instead of sprawling green lawns, many of the houses here have small gardens dotting along their front porches—a few morning glories here, rhododendron bushes there, even a plant growing little red chili peppers from across the street. This house in particular had pink, rose-like flowers he’s never seen before, adorning the entrance of the house in hanging baskets affixed to the ceiling.
Isaac hears footsteps approaching from the inside before the door finally opens. To his surprise, out steps a young man: dark hair and dimples, and barely any older than Isaac himself. The young man extended a hand to greet him, smiling.
“Welcome! You must be Isaac?”
He nods, shaking the outstretched hand.
“You can call me Alex,” the young man says. “I’m the other tutor here, along with Wilfred. It’s great to finally meet you, Isaac; please, come on in!”
Alex walks with him through the foyer, down the hall, and into the living room of the house—where all their tutoring sessions will be held. All the while, he’s all smiles as he goes over with Isaac the specifics of their arrangement.
“Tutoring usually lasts an hour, though we can always extend it if need be. It’s just us two for now, so we’re pretty flexible with our scheduling. You mentioned you preferred once a week on Thursdays to prep for your Friday exams, correct?”
”Yes, that’s correct,” he replied, grimacing slightly as he recounts the three awful ones he’s already been handed back so far. He has got to turn that around, and he’s sure he could with the help of this tutoring.
“Alright! Just let us know if that day no longer works for you for any reason, or if you want to add any more sessions in the future. Wilfred and I are happy to be of help, in any way we can.”
When they finally reach the living room at the end of the hall, the young man walks him to the brown leather couch right in the middle.
“Wilfred is in the kitchen right now, making snacks for the session. I’ll let him know you’re here so that we can get started right away. In the meantime, though,” he waves his hand, motioning for Isaac to sit before he heads to the kitchen, “Please, make yourself right at home here.”
Isaac sets his bag down next to his feet as he sits. He’s thrilled to have the privilege of studying with such wonderful people, and in such an inviting environment. The house is unique, welcoming, and charmingly eclectic in its furnishings; he feels he could identify at least five distinct styles and periods from the various things in the living room alone—all married together nicely to provide the overall personal, comforting atmosphere of the house. On the coffee table in front of him was a glass vase, filled with the same, swirling pink flowers he had seen from the hanging baskets outside.
But what catches his attention the most in the living room was not the flowers, or any of the other furnishings, but what sits across from it: all on its own, separated from anything else in the room.
There, positioned against the wall opposite him, stood a magnificent, cherry-red grandfather clock. Isaac's gaze is helplessly drawn to the structure: the swing of its shiny brass pendulum from behind the glass, to and fro and to and fro, with each movement accompanied by the monotonous, dull ticking of each second marching by. Isaac finds himself oddly relaxing to it as he stares on—sinking back into the soft cushions of the couch, letting each of the muscles in his body slowly unwind and let go of the tension he didn’t know he was even carrying with each heavy swing. His thoughts scatter away from him the more he watches the bob of the pendulum until there remains nothing else to pry him away from the hypnotic pull of the clock, lulling him deeper and deeper in unawares.
It was only when Wilfred himself appeared in front of him, setting down a tray of warm cookies on the table and blocking the clock from his direct line of sight, that Isaac was finally able to snap out of his strange reverie.
“Oh—! I… I’m so sorry,” he apologized, frowning. Isaac straightens up immediately, sitting up on the edge of the couch. “You haven’t been waiting long for me there, have you? I have no idea what’s gotten into me…”
“Oh, no; not at all,” The older tutor smiles, dismissing the notion with a wave of his hand. “I don’t mind it, really. I'm just glad you're able to find it so relaxing here."
After setting the tray down, the man extends a large hand out to shake his.
“It’s nice to finally meet you in person, Isaac. Alex had probably told you already, but my name is Wilfred. We both look forward to working with you as your tutors from here on out.”

hello all! i took my third and final sat on august 25th, for privacy reasons, i will not share my exact scores, but they are in the range for the colleges i am applying to, so i am satisfied with them. here’s my guide to getting the sat score of your dreams; best of luck x
sat breakdown:
evidence based reading section: like act reading but a little more challenging (65 minutes, 52 questions, 5 passages)
evidence based writing section: exactly the same as act writing and language (35 minutes, 44 questions)
math (no calculator): don’t stress tm abt this section, it’s actually easier than math w calculator, main issue (for me at least) is timing (25 minutes, 20 questions)
math (calculator): more complex math, goes up to basic trig and geometry (55 minutes, 38 questions) both math sections have grid-in questions in which you have to write in your answer rather than select a multiple choice option
writing (optional): analyze a piece of writing in an essay, a bit more challenging than act writing (50 minutes)
highest score: 1600
lowest score: 400
general info:
the sat is made by the college board, who also make the ap exams. so if you’ve ever taken an ap exam, you have a college board account. if not, you’ll have to make one. it’s fairly easy to do.
make sure your password is something you can easily remember. if possible, set it so your computer remembers it.
you can later send your scores to colleges using your college board account.
when signing up to take an sat, make sure that you print out your admission ticket early rather than late. also make sure you have clear directions to your testing center if you’ve never been there before.
you will also be asked for an additional proof of id. if you take the sat through a talent search program, this will be provided for you. otherwise, bring drivers’ id, passport, or an sat id form. (the sat id form is kind of a pain to fill out, so i would strongly recommend you bring one of the other ids i mentioned.)
if you’re a senior planning to submit your sat score to colleges, make sure you’ll get your sat scores back before you apply. for this reason, it’s better to schedule a summer test over an autumn test.
cramming the night before probably won’t improve your score. if you have to study at all the night before, do your best section and look over math formulas. (they won’t give you arc length and that’s almost always on the test.)
bring a snack! a hungry brain will not improve matters!
check to make sure your calculator is approved by college board. most are, but you never know.
you can opt to take sat writing on test day if you found out a college you’re interested in requires a writing score. but lots of top schools don’t require sat w writing (all the schools i’m currently applying to are top 50 and none of them require a writing score). you only really need to take it if you have ivy league/uc ambitions.
ways to take the sat:
self study: this method is what most people do. they do practice tests online or through khan academy, or buy an sat prep book and do practice questions. this method is pretty solid, but you have to be disciplined to do it effectively. if you know you can’t motivate yourself to study, this is probably not the move.
sat classes/tutoring: if you have the money to do this, or if you can find free classes, this method is also fairly effective. if you know you can’t be trusted to study by yourself, this is probably the best way to study.
blind testing: this is where you take the test without studying at all. you may want to do this for your first sat, but it is not recommended you do this for any sat after, unless you’re some sort of test-taking god (but if you are, why are you reading this post?)
are prep books worth it?
yes and no. it really depends on the prep book.
i’ve always used the princeton review books. they’re pretty high quality and the questions are a lot like the ones on the sat. they tend to focus more on “tricks” then how to, like, do the questions though, which bothers me a little bit.
college board makes its own sat review guides, which are also fairly reputable. they have former sat tests in them, which can be helpful. however many real tests have already been released by college board online and are thus free.
kaplan also makes pretty good review material. imo kaplan tests are harder than actual sat tests. kaplan is also less focused on “tricks.” which i found more helpful than princeton review’s methods.
the tea on tutoring:
the summer before my junior year i took a kaplan course to prep for the sat. i got a lot out of it, personally. they gave us tips for taking the test at a much faster pace, and i brought my score up by 100 points.
that being said, tutoring is def not necessary for success. the course was p expensive, and it was also a lot of work to keep up with. if you’re already pretty busy, you may not get a lot out of a class because it does take up time.
if you have the time and money, i’d say a kaplan or other test-prep course could be worth it to you. if not, there are plenty of other, less expensive ways to prep for the test.
for example, studying with a group of friends can play the same role as a kaplan class in that it will get you motivated (or shamed into) studying for the sat.
other alternatives:
do not sleep on khan academy! if you don’t know what it is by now, it’s a free website with tons of helpful videos on just about any subject ( i especially recommend it for math and science.) they have sat prep material that has been verified by college board and you can customize a study schedule to your needs, and, if you log into your college board account, you can build a study plan that focuses on your weaknesses-based off your psat or your last sat.
take the psat if you can before the sat. it’s formulated quite similarly to the sat, and if you do well on the psat you may be eligible for a national merit scholarship.
staying motivated:
make a study schedule and stick to it. and be specific with it, so instead of saying “today i’m going to study sat math” say “today i’m going to review geometry topics and do fifteen practice problems.”
don’t attempt to do too much in one day. you will almost certainly get burnt out if you take a full practice test every day or something.
practice tests are helpful, but schedule them for days on which you literally have nothing else to do so you can time them properly (they are about four hours if you practice the essay as well.)
write down every question you get wrong in a notebook, along with an explanation of how to get the correct answer. that way, before test day, you can flip through the notebook and quickly review what sorts of mistakes you tend to make so you can be extra vigilant on the real test.
promise yourself rewards for good work! for example “if i get all the questions right today, i’ll buy myself a present.”
the day before the test, if you have to study at all, practice the section of the test that is easiest to you. this will get you extra confident for the next day.
i can’t afford the sat. what do i do?
fee waivers are available for the sat. see if you are eligible to get one.
is my score good enough?
to answer this question, check the sat “middle 50%” range for the college or university you’re applying. do not look at the “average” sat score, as this is a less reliable indicator of the necessary score needed for acceptance to that college.
if you are in between the scores in the middle 50% range or at the cutoff points for the middle 50% range, your score is very similar to the scores of people who were admitted. at the very least, your sat score will not keep you out of that college.
if you’re above the scores at the top of the range, you have a good shot at getting admitted, potentially with some sort of scholarship money.
if you’re below the scores at the bottom of the range, it will probably be harder for you to get in to that school. however, it is not totally impossible to get accepted, especially if you’re only ten or twenty points below the cutoff for the end of the range.
colleges do not look at just test scores, contrary to popular belief. plenty of people get turned down from top schools with perfect sat scores. recognize that doing well helps, but it’s not everything. the sat is simply a measure of how well you can do on the sat. it is not a valid predictor of intelligence or even success in college and beyond. you are more than just a number. you are. i promise.
superscoring:
chances are, if you’ve taken the test more than one time, your composite score has fluctuated a little bit. you might have done better in math on one test, but bombed english, yet when you took it a second time, your math score plummeted and your english score soared. so which score do you submit?
most colleges, thankfully, won’t make you choose. you can now submit multiple tests, and your highest subscores across the board will be taken to create your all-time highest score. this practice is called superscoring. be sure to check the score policies for the colleges your interested in, as not all colleges superscore (cough cough: the uc schools)
random sat tips that worked for me:
you know those reading questions where it asks you to answer a question and then the preceding question asks you to back it up with evidence? anyway, what i do for those is read the first question, and then, without looking at the answer choices, skip to the second question and select the evidence that answers it. only then do i answer the first question.
learn the arc length formulas. tattoo them on your forehead. they WILL be on the math section.
skip hard questions. they’re worth as many points as easy questions. bubble a random answer in and come back to them if you have time.
remember there’s no guessing penalty, so it’s in your best interest to bubble all the questions. you’re better off guessing one letter for all your unknown questions rather than “christmas-treeing” it. the right answer is not always b or c, contrary to popular opinion so guess a or d if you’re bad ;)
for english, the simplest answer is usually the best.

Some of the career fields in accounting include:
