"If I get to live a million other lives, I hope I get to love you in all of them.” Eddie Munson fix-it fic.
Tumblr media
(gif not mine, credit to dunadain)
Pairing: Eddie x female!reader
Summary: A quickly, sloppily written angsty + fluffy fix-it fic I cranked out in one sitting because this is my therapy in a post st4 vol2 world. This was written quickly and quickly proofread by a very tired me, so definitely not my best work but something I just wanted to get out in the open for everyone! Enjoy.
Warnings: Mentions of death, blood, gore, drinking, basically, everything from e9 except Eddie lives, suggestive dialogue but ultimately sfw. And obviously, spoilers ahead.
A/N: My first published fic! I hope u enjoy it, it’s not what my best work looks like (I’m working on a long ass AU fic that will be impeccably written and proofread don’t you worry), but, like I said, my brain just wanted me to get this idea out of my system, so here you go! Please be kind!
Word count: Almost 3k

"Let’s hope this works” Dustin mutters as he plugs in the extension cord to the amplifiers. You teeter over the chord, trying to maintain your balance atop the tin roof of Eddie's trailer. The trailer that held memories of some of your brightest memories with the long-haired dungeon master standing in front of you. You take in the sight in front of you, the world slowing down for a millisecond. bright red lightning crackled in the distance. Dustin’s hard breathing. Eddie’s warm brown eyes trained on you and only you. Upside-down flurries landing in the curls of his frizzy hair. Guitar slung lazily over the front of his torso. You remembered back to the first time you’d met him.
.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.
You had just moved to Hawkins for your freshman year of high school, thanks to your parents moving for work. That first day at school, you’d taken your lunch to the bathroom, too nervous to eat at a table alone. It was on the billboard by the restroom door you had seen a poster for a local band playing at a bar close to your house that night. Back in your old city, you’d loved to go see live music. As you sat in the stall, you grasped for your backpack, digging out your wallet. There it was. staring back at you was the face of your freshly 21-year-old sister, her old id hiding in the back flaps.
You arrived that night to the venue that night, breezing past the bouncer and heading straight to the bar. You didn’t mind being alone here, because at least here you didn’t feel like the targeted new kid like you did in the cafeteria. Oh, how you were so wrong; because, as you waited for the bartender to pour your beer, you heard a voice come from beside you.
“You’re the new girl in my algebra class.”
You whipped your head beside you. The smell of weed and jack burned your nostrils. In front of you was a cheeky, long-hair brunette boy. And even in the dark ambient lighting of the bar, you could see his big, beautiful kind brown eyes. Oh my god, he was cute. In an attempt to stumble out a response, you just huffed out a “yeah” and handed the bartender some cash, swapping it with your beer.
"As part of the new-kid-Hawkins-high-experience, I was planning on asking you to sit at my lunch table, but you seemed to disappear in the few moments between algebra and lunch period,” he pressed on while you sipped, determined to talk to you for some reason.
“Oh yeah, I, um,” you stammered. You took in his full appearance now. He had a black tee with a flannel and leather jacket, black pants donning a chain, and white reebok shoes. On his fingers were a range of rings of different shapes and sizes. His ringed fingers wrapped around what you assumed was a jack and coke but was mostly gone.
“I promise sitting at our table is better than eating alone in the bathroom. Trust me, been there, done that...” he smiled, turning to stick his free hand out to you. “I’m Eddie.”
You told him your name and shook his hand, the cold from the rings shocking your skin. You chatted with small talk back and forth for a while. You told him your love for live music and excitement to see the band, and he told you about the DND club he loved. Hell, what did it hurt to befriend someone cute on one of your first days in a new town? He downed the rest of his drink before bowing to you.
“Well, I would love to chat with you for longer, but I do have duties to fulfill. I’ll see you at lunch tomorrow?” he smiled, holding out his hand. Unsurely, you put your hand into his and he places a chaste kiss on it. The alcohol in your system bubbled a giggle in response.
“Tomorrow,” you bid him farewell. And then, to your absolute horror, he climbed the steps to the stage followed by a few other guys. He went up to the center microphone, slung a guitar over his head, and gave a smile directly to you before yelling his band name and playing the opening riffs to a metal song you didn’t recognize.
And the rest was history.
.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.
And at this moment, you saw that same boy. The same young boy with kind eyes staring at you from across the roof of the trailer. Suddenly you’re filled with fear at the gravity of what you’re actually doing. So many things could go wrong. You’re literally setting yourself up as bait. You can’t lose him. You can’t.
Your arms and legs move faster than your brain as you trek over to Eddie, hands reaching out for his face and planting a kiss onto his perfectly ready lips. His guitar bumps against your front and you pull away, foreheads touching.
“I love you,” you whisper. “I just had to tell you before.”
Before he has a chance to respond, you back away next to Dustin, your hand reaching out to crank up the volume on the amp. Eddie’s eyes meet yours in the last moment of silence. His voice breaks it as he reaches up to his guitar pick on the chain around his neck and he mutters your name as he rips it off, eyes trained on yours.
“This is for you.”
And then it all starts. the guitar riff to the Metallica song you knew all too well, because, well, Eddie was obsessed with it. You liked it too because it reminded you of how talented he was. He shreds the guitar as you watch. If this was any other situation, you would have a heat building between your legs at the sight in front of you, but considering the compromising nature of what was happening at the moment, you focused on the sound of the bats swarming closer. As the epic guitar solo comes to an end, you stumble off of the roof and into the trailer, choking out a sob of relief once you realize you’re safe.
The first thing Eddie does after his cheering moment with Dustin is kiss you again, hard and passionately as if he didn’t just kiss you minutes ago.
“See, all worked out,” he cups your cheeks and your smile. Then, your smile fades as the bats ram against the roof.
“Eddie, the vents!” you realize. Eddie mutters a ‘shit’ and rams his trash can lid weapon to the vent in the living room and you run, ramming yours into the one above his bed. But you’re too late. A bat narrowly escapes your attempt and latches onto your shoulder, knocking you off of the bed and onto the hard floor.
You’re sure your arm is broken somewhere from the shooting pain paired with the pain of the bat gnawing on your flesh. You scream and Eddie quickly appears into your vision, beating the hell out of the damn thing. It finally dies and Eddie kneels down to you.
Eddie sits you up, blood gushing from the wound on your shoulder.
“Oh, god, you’re okay, you’re okay” he coos. “Henderson” he yells and Dustin appears in the door frame, gasping out your name.
“I’m fine...” you attempt to get up, dizziness taking over you. “Woah-” you blink slowly, fighting the dizziness caused by the amount of blood dripping down your shirt.
“We gotta get her through the gate, out of here,” Eddie rapidly fires, and in your hazy state, you can tell he’s holding back tears. He grabs for a shirt of his nearby and holds it to your oozing wound.
Your vision continues to blur. How were you losing this much blood? The world spun fast around you as Eddie walked you to the gate. Eddie....
“Eddie” you murmur out. Eddie looks at you, holding you up in his arms.
“I’m right here baby, right here. Now I need you to be strong and get yourself up that rope.” he manages to say, no tears spilling from his clearly-watering eyes. You muster up the strength you have and somehow manage to get to the other side of the gate. Dustin follows, coming to your side immediately to check on you. you gaze up at the gate and see Eddie staring back at you.
“Eddie...” you start, suspicious of him. And before you know it, there he is, cutting off the cloth rope between the two dimensions. Dustin starts to scream. You become numb with shock. Tears prickle your eyes.
“Get her to a hospital, Henderson. Make sure she’s safe.”
And then he’s gone. In one fluid motion, tears bursting down your cheeks, you saunter over to a chair in the corner, pulling it to the gate.
“Dustin, I don’t care what you say, I’m going in there whether you want me to or not. So you can either help me or not. But I’m going” you manage to get out.
He nods in agreement and you get yourself on the chair, using your good arm to pull yourself up. Dustin helps with your feet the best he can, and by some miracle in the universe, you land on your back on the floor of the trailer in the upside-down, crying out in agony.
You don’t even wait for Dustin to come through before you’re scrounging up all the strength you have to run sloppily out of the door, hand pressed to your shirt-covered wound, blood already soaked through it.
You see him. He’s there, weapons up and at the ready, fighting the swarm the best he can. A scream gets choked in your throat as you run in his direction. When Eddie falls to the ground, that's when the yell building up inside you finally comes out, taking most of your strength with it. It’s a mix between his name and the word ‘no’, but it’s loud enough to get some of the bats flying in your direction.
But then they all... fall. All at once. No bats even reach you before they’re dead and unmoving on the ground. But that doesn’t matter to you.
“Eddie!” you scream again, weaker than before. you hear Dustin's yells distantly behind you.
When you reach him, your knees buckle at the sight of him. He’s bloody. Really bloody. It covers his torso and hands, even his face.
“No, no no no” you shake your head. “Eddie no you can’t,” you start, fully sobbing now, tears mixing with his blood. “You can’t leave me.”
“I didn’t run away this time,” he choked. His voice gurgled. Blood splattered from his mouth to his teeth.
“No, Eds, you didn’t.”
He manages a smile the best he can, and even with the blood covering parts of his face and teeth, he’s still the most beautiful boy you have ever laid your eyes on.
“You’re so beautiful,” you coo to him, brushing his hair with your shaky, bloody fingers.
“N- not more... b- beautiful than you” he chokes, shaky hand reaching to yours that was on his chest. Dustin finally arrives and falls next to you.
“I love you” he musters.
“Stop that,” you manage through tears, shaking your head at him. “You’re making it through this.” he turns his eyes to look at Dustin.
“You’re gonna have to look after my little sheep for me, okay?”
“Eddie you are not dying, stop this-” you and Dustin protest at the same time and you bury your head in his blood-soaked hellfire shirt.
“And make sure you watch over her for me. Promise me,”
This breaks you. You audibly sob, not hearing anything of what Dustin responds to Eddie.
“H- hey look at me,” Eddie grunts. you lift your head, brushing hair out of his beautiful, perfect eyes.
“If I get to live a million other lives, I hope I get to love you in all of them.”
You can’t get words out at this point. You just lean forward and kiss him softly. You don’t care about the mess or the blood. When you pull away you choke out broken “I love you”’s over and over.
You’re broken out of your trance by Steve’s distant voice. You whip around.
“Henderson!” he yells, running over, noticing your compromising position.
“Oh my god, what happened-” Nancy starts but you interrupt.
“Bats. He needs help. A hospital. Bandages. Now.” you demand. Steve is already beside you, helping Eddie up. You go to the other side of him, holding him up carefully as the group quickly moves to the trailer.
“You’re going to be okay, Eddie. It’s going to be okay.”
.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.
It’s a few hours after the giant earthquake ripped through Hawkins. You return from the kitchen in Hopper’s cabin to the room Eddie was laying in with another bowl of water and a cloth. Somehow, someway, you and the gang were able to patch up the wounds, none being too detrimental. He pitifully laid on the bed, bandages covering most of his body. He seemed better and more sentient, just a little traumatized. You were too, your own uncovered gash dully throbbing at you. The others suggested one of them look at it but you refused, mind only focused on Eddie.
You sat beside him on the bed and he gave you a weak smile. You dipped the cloth in the water, continuing to wipe him down, this time wiping down his face.
“Thank you” he simply stated.
“You don’t have to thank me” you smiled softly.
“You’re just... too good to be real,” he said, almost in a whisper. And then suddenly, his smile faded.
“What’s wrong?” you asked. His eyes trained on your shoulder.
“Please just let me look at it,” he states. You shake your head, continuing to wipe his face.
“It’s fine.”
“No, it’s not. Please, just let me look.”
You drop the cloth back into the water, sighing out in surrender. He manages to sit up and reaches a hand out, pulling your shirt down to reveal the gash. He sighs out your name.
“I’ve been applying pressure and I promise it doesn’t hurt as bad as it did earlier,” you protest. But, he’s already reaching for the damp cloth, pressing it to the wound, cleaning it. You wince but surrender to his touch as he softly and shakily cleans the wound. You shed your shirt and he grabs a spare bandage from the side table, wrapping it around the wound.
“There,” he lays back down and smiles.
“Thank you,” you respond mimicking him from earlier, leaning down to sweetly leave a kiss on his lips.
“Circumstances aside, I do have to mention how sexy you look right now,” he cheekily smirks at you in your bra, even in his weakest moments still being the cheeky Eddie he always has been.
“Scooch over,” you tell him, shedding the pants you were wearing, and climbing into the bed next to him.
The entire gang was fast asleep, too exhausted from the events of the night to manage a normal sleeping schedule. You nestled in next to Eddie, his bandaged arm coming to wrap around your side.
“You know, I really thought I was going to lose you,” you look up into his eyes.
“Yeah, well... I didn’t want to run” he mumbles back.
“Running doesn’t make you a bad person.”
“I shouldn’t have run from Chrissy,” he says sadly, remembering back to his friend. You knew her, albeit not that well, but you had been with them in the woods. The night she died you weren’t with Eddie, but he found and told you right after. You helped him hide. You knew the guilt from that night ate at him.
“There was nothing you could do, Eds.”
“I know.”
“Running isn’t stupid. Especially when it’s in the best interest of everyone involved. You can’t leave me like that. ever. I won’t ever let you. You can’t go off and die being a hero and leaving me behind,” you say, not even realizing you’re crying. “Chrissy would be so proud of you from tonight, Eds. She’d be proud, but she wouldn’t want you to put yourself near death for the sake of not being a coward.”
Eddie sniffs in response. You know he’s softly crying.
“Just promise me you won’t pull some shit like that again,” you whisper, looking up into his eyes again.
“I won’t. I’m sorry,” he wipes your tears and hugs you close to his chest. “Never again. I’m never leaving you.”
"Good. Because I’ll kill you first.” you smile. He softly laughs with you.
And everything is okay. Well, not in Hawkins, technically, but Eddie's okay. And you’re okay. And that’s all that matters at this very moment.

Pocket Dice
Summary: You teach Steve to play D&D. In return he takes it upon himself to set you up with a certain Dungeon Master.
F! Reader Insert, 4995 Words
Warning:  Minor ST spoilers ahead. Food mentions. (Underage) drinking. Drug use. (It’s only marijuana dad!) Hinted at sexual situations. Reader is written as wearing red lipstick and dresses very 80s punk. Reader also listens to heavy metal in this and plays D&D because you’re cool peoples’. Takes place some time after Volume 5. (I took the liberty of deciding that Eddie lives and the world gets saved, and I offer no apologies for that.)
Authors Note:  This is the third Eddie fic I started writing in recent days - thought I’d share since it hasn’t taken on a life of its own like the other two. No sequel planned/in the works, but never say never. Also, I am always looking for inspo, so I will absolutely take requests for one-shots, blurbs, and head canons. If you don’t have an idea and just wanna chat, that’s cool too! I promise I won't bite.

After defeating evil a final time, after closing the portals, after reversing the poisoning of the town, Steve should have been happy to retire from saving the world.
He should have been grateful for the monotony life had become filled with - that there wasn’t a new threat on the horizon. But grateful was not what Steve was feeling.
The truth was, Steve was unnerved.
Not only was there nothing for him to do during peacetime, but in addition to that, his brothers and sisters in arms started to slip away, keeping in touch less and less.
Nancy had put the final nail in the coffin when it came to them after she graduated, and moved away with Johnathan.
He still worked at the video store with Robin - but she had gotten a girlfriend who adored her, and while Steve was happy for her, she was less and less available for their old shenanigans.
There were the kids of course, but while Steve had a hard time pinning them down, they religiously met up with Eddie every Sunday. Now that he too had finally graduated, they played D&D outside of their high school Hellfire club.
Which, frankly, Steve had never understood…but now that his days were mostly empty, his friends were scattered, and he hadn’t had any heroic moments in ages, it was no wonder he ended up where he did.
In a bookstore one town over, Steve spends way too much time meticulously combing through covers.
So much so that the cute girl working behind the counter - you -  takes pity on him.
“Do you need help with anything?” You ask sweetly, in a tone Steve knows well to be a fake customer service voice.
“Sorry I - I don’t know where to start. Were you guys trying to close?” He admitted, sounding pitiful.
“Ten minutes ago.” You chuckle lightly, causing Steve to flush.
Running a finger along the many spines before them, you tease. “I’ve locked us both in, so you might want to make a decision soon, before we starve to death.”
“Sorry!” He says again, hands heavy with the weight of so many books. “I just, really don’t know what I’m looking for.”
“So you mentioned.” You offer him a warm smile. “Let’s see if I can help…uh, what’s your name?”
“Steve.” He answers.
“Steve. I’m Y/N, at your service. Are you looking to get a gift for someone?”  You ask helpfully.
“No I…It’s for me. I was hoping to learn how to play.” He flushed when he admitted it.
“And you’ve never played before?” You ask, non-judgmentally.
He shakes his head. “I have…a passable vocabulary.” Never mind that it stemmed from Dustin naming every evil thing they’d encountered over the last five years as some sort of game-inspired creature.
“Oh.” You understand, taking the several books from his hands. Clicking your tongue, tossing several to the side. “No…no…no…yes…no.”
You present him with a much more reasonable pile. “Start with these. Everything else will just overwhelm you.”
“Are you sure?” He asks tentatively. You blink at him - then reach in your pocket to produce a handful of colorful, multi-sided dice.
“Pretty sure.” You tell him, rattling the dice in your hands for emphasis.
Steve’s jaw is slack at that, and he blurts out. “Thank you.”
“Of course.” You readily agree as he follows you to the register where you ring him up.
“Anything else?” You ask, and Steve chuckles a little. “No, but thank you. I was really close to calling it.”
“No need to thank me. It’s a cool game, I wish more people would give it a chance.” You smile when you hand him the receipt, letting him out of the store and locking up again after him.
And that might have been the end of it - but you were so nice to him the first time that once a week passes Steve is back at the bookstore, around the same time, specifically hoping you’ll be there.
When you were - glancing up at the bell announcing his entrance - he smiled sheepishly at you. “So, I have some questions.”
You laugh, not minding the intrusion. “Hit me with em.’”
And then you spend the better part of a half hour going over intricacies of Dungeons and Dragons with him, endlessly patient, even excited for him when he grasps a concept.
“You know,” you say finally, thoughtfully. “I think that your best teacher at this point is probably going to be…playing an actual game.”
“I don’t know if my friends will be as merciful as you’ve been.” He laughs, knowing he’s not ready. There’s too much to learn.
You shrug, “No, but mine just might be.” Then you grab a discarded receipt from the counter, flipping it over and scribbling some information on it.
“Meet me at this address tomorrow, around 4…if you’re up for it. I’ll set you up.” You tell him, and then lead him out the way you had previously, locking up after him without another word.
Steve can’t believe his luck. The next day he arrives at the quaint little maroon house right on time, climbing the steps and knocking on the front door.
It opens moments later, you offering him a warm greeting before letting him inside.
“Hey Steve,” You smile with bright red lips, and Steve is surprised to see how you dress when you’re not in the hideous bookstore khakis and polo shirt.
Yellow plaid pants, and a crop top that looks homemade. Casual, cool.  Not what he’d expected from a bookstore clerk who played D&D, but here they were.
You offer Steve a drink before leading him to a fold up table that you’d set up in your large living room.
It’s scattered with supplies already, and over the next hour or two, you and Steve put a lot of work into what he worries isn’t enough to show for it.
Still you’re sweet as always though, explaining to him that the creation of his character is an essential part of the game.
He’s studying the character sheet that the two of you have concocted when you eventually go to greet your friends, all of them arriving within a few minutes of 6pm.
Steve gets the distinct impression that he’s not the first wayward soul you’ve collected. By the time they’ve all joined you two it’s clear that they are, each of them, around you guys’ age, arguably nerdy in a variety of ways, and curious about Steve.
“We’re going to show Steve the ropes.” You tell them, and give the instructions for them to make nice while you order everyone pizza.
Then you take Steve by surprise once again, by sitting at the table’s head and assuming the role of Dungeon Master.
You make the group introduce themselves and their characters for Steve’s benefit, and then captivate everyone with your storytelling.
It’s incredible - Steve is wrapped up in it, having a blast though the actual outcome of the game turns out pretty rough.
Steve doesn’t survive it - but you were right about your friends. They carry his weight, offering tips and using their hard earned resources to keep reviving him as much as possible.
By the end though, his level 1 human paladin is slain. The quest continues on as he listens in fascination.
And when the night is over - the pizza consumed, arguments had, he wasn’t the only casualty.
Several of your friends grumble in good nature when you wrap things up with a small flourishing bow.
“That…was awesome.” Steve breathes, when you finally ask him what he thinks.
Tilting your head back, you laugh. “Glad you think so. Next time I won’t take it so easy on you.”
“Easy?” Steve blurts, your friends all laughing. “Yes, Steve,” they explain -  “That was her taking it easy.”
They share tales of the ways you’ve murdered them - sadistically, frequently, and Steve can’t help but to look forward to next time.
He tells you as much when he helps you clean up, and you promise that he’s welcome as much as he wants.
So he keeps coming, keeps playing, keeps learning from you and your friends.
Eventually, Steve is what you generously call decent -  and you give him your blessing to recuse himself from what you have affectionately dubbed your “merry band of misfits.”
“You’re ready.” You promise him.
The guys nod in agreement, and Steve swallows. “Do you think uh, I can come back sometimes? Not necessarily every week but uh, you guys are cool. I like hanging out with you all. You’ve taught me a lot.”
“Brave paladin, we would quest with you anytime.” One of the guys salutes him. Steve chuckles.
That night when everyone has cleared out, Steve lingers in order to help put things away, the way he’s done since the first game. While he does so, he’s overwhelmed with gratitude.
You had really been kind to him since you’d met - had taken him under your wing without question, introduced him to something he never realized could be so fun and on top of that, gave him a way back into his friend’s lives.
He wasn’t sure how to repay you.
At least, not until you put a tape in your cassette player, and Steve is suddenly struck with the cords of a familiar song.
It’s a song he’d first heard in The Upside Down, signaling to him that it was time to kill Vecna.
“Master of Puppets?” He asks you.
Without hesitation, your eyes light up. “Hell yeah. I love Metallica.” You give a shake of your head. “Surprised you know it though.” You tease him.
“Yeah I uh…I have this friend. Plays a really…really sick rendition of it. Totally metal.” He says, lost in thought.
“That’s so cool.” You admit, clearing empty pizza boxes away.
You’ve not given it much more consideration, but for Steve though, the wheels are turning. He has an idea. One that, if executed properly, he thinks will be the perfect way to repay you.
The perfect opportunity presents itself with the coming week - his parents are on some kind of retreat that they go on every year that their marriage doesn’t crash and burn.
It’s the perfect time to host - so he puts the word out to all his friends. Party at his place.
Everyone quickly agrees to make it, and when Steve extends the invitation to you, you also decide sure - why not.
It’s not a night playing D&D but Steve promises he’s the king of parties.
When the kids are splashing around in his pool - trying to be sneaky about drinking his beer - Steve feels really confident in his plan and his abilities.
“Who are you waiting for?” Robin asks as she drops down into a lawn chair, drink in hand.
“What?” Steve feigned innocence.
“You keep checking the door.” She says, with a soft hum. “And at last headcount we’re all here. Unless…Nance…Is it - is it Nance? Did you invite Nance?” She whispers.
Steve rolls his eyes, voice dripping with sarcasm. “I doubt Nancy, and Johnathan would make an appearance from their honeymoon to come to one of my parties.”
Robin snorts. “Well, what is it then? Because you’re not subtle.”
“I did invite my new friend.” Steve explains, as nonchalantly as he’s able.
“What’s this now?” Dustin asks, sloshing around in the water with his ears perked up under his curly hair. “You made a new friend?”
“I did.” Steve shrugs.
Robin eyes his face. “Oh my gosh, it’s a girl. Steve has a girlfriend.”
Dustin ooh’s as some of the other kids float over to the commotion, making cute noises.
Steve rolls his eyes. “Alright everybody calm down, it is a girl, and she is a friend. She is not my girlfriend.”
“Do you want her to be?” Eleven teases.
“No.” He grits out.
“I totally don’t believe you.” Lucas laughs.
“It’s a classic Steve move - invite the girl to a pool party and ply her with cheap beer.” Robin jokes.
“That’s not what this is.” He sighs.
“Really Steve, look at the facts and tell us you’re not trying to date her.” Mike says, like some kind of expert.
Steve sighs in deep exasperation, rubbing a hand over his face. He glanced around abruptly, making sure that a particular party guest isn’t around to hear what he’s about to say.
As it is, it seems like he’s gone inside - likely rolling up for the older kids for later. “I’m not trying to date her! I am trying to set her up with Eddie.”
“Eddie?” Dustin questions, astounded.
“Yes, Eddie. Dungeon master, heavy metal playing, mechanically inclined, pain-in-my-ass, Eddie.” Steve rolls his eyes.
“Oh…” everyone seems blown away. None of them more than Steve himself had been.
“…Hello?” A familiar voice calls out and Steve panics, scrambling to his feet and wondering if you’d caught any of that.
Based on your expression he doesn’t think so. Still, he’s extra cautious when he takes the large bottle of tequila from you. “Hey,” Steve addresses, adding lamely. “You made it!”
“Well someone told me that you’re the king of parties.” You tease.
Steve grins, then gestures weakly to the group in front of you two. “These are uh, these are my friends.” Steve points each one out, naming them.
You turn to the pool, younger kids clustered in and around it, and you wave. A flurry of greetings follows you.
They all take you in - blood red lipstick, black fishnets peaking out beneath high waisted shorts, a low cut Iron Maiden shirt tied into a knot at the bottom to show just the smallest bit of your midriff - and they could see where Steve might have thought of Eddie.
Speaking of, in that moment the side door to Steve’s house opens and Eddie steps out of it, already lighting the cigarette perched between his lips before he freezes mid-step.
“Ah, I uh, did not realize we had company.” He grins cheekily.
Steve steps forward, gesturing, “Y/N, this is Eddie. Eddie - Y/N.” He introduces, unable to contain the wide grin at the way Eddie’s eyes hone in on the skeleton on your shirt that he knows all too well.
“Oh, yeah.” You laugh lightly, a tad embarrassed under his gaze. “King Steve here neglected to mention he had a pool.” Nudging Steve harshly at the accusation. “Lucky for you I do accept apologies in the form of a stiff drink.”
“Yes ma’am.” Steve salutes, “Eddie, keep her company will ya? I’m going to uh, go get some ice.”
“I’ll go with you.” Robin adds helpfully, following Steve into the house. Some of the kids, wet and slippery, follow them in, all asking what the plan is.
“I’m making this up as I go.” Steve admits. “I mean, I’ve never asked a girl out for another person!”
“Well we need to do something, did you see her shirt!” Erica points out.
Steve nods, “Trust me kid that’s the tip of the iceberg. She and him are made for each other, you have no idea.”
“Where did you find her anyways?” Dustin asks.
“She works at this book store...it’s not important.” Steve changes the subject. “If no one has any bright ideas, we ought to get back out there before we’re missed.”
Uttered agreements hit Steve’s ears as the group staggered their return. “Here ya go.” Steve hands you the mixed drink, watching you sip it gratefully. “Thanks.” You tell him brightly.
You’re sitting in a lawn chair, Eddie occupying another on your other side, still smoking that cigarette despite the dopey grin on his face.
Drink in hand, you turn back to him and gesture for him to continue. “You were saying?” Eyes all for him, so Eddie launches animatedly into whatever conversation you’d been having before Steve interrupted.
Steve takes it to mean that maybe the pair of you won’t need his help after all, and he lets the party commence, the kids pouring over the edge into the pool as you two talk.
He is briefly distracted by his mission by an overwhelming sense of contentment, flooding him with every call and squeal of joy his younger friends let out.
When the hour grows late, he rounds them up - making sure that they get home safe.
With all the four oldest of the group remaining, Eddie produces a small baggie of pre-rolled blunts.
“S’okay if it’s not your thing.” He tells you, handing off to Robin with the lighter.
You roll your eyes lightly in response, scoffing, “Please.”
Then as if to prove it, after Robin takes the first hit you reach out and grasp her wrist gently, guiding her hand that’s got the blunt clasped between two fingers to bring it to your lips.
You inhale deeply before releasing your hold on the other woman, the smoke billowing from your lips as she lowers her hand.
“Hot.” Robin’s the one who says it, to which you blow her a kiss. Robin then passes to Eddie, who inhales shakily, eyes on you the whole time.
Steve decides to give him until the end of the night, at most.
As the four of you pass the blunt around more, your lipstick stains it, and no one seems to mind. You’re growing on the whole group, and Steve especially sees you slotting in easily past tonight.
As it is while you all smoke, you ask about the kids who’d gone - how they all knew each other, if they were related.
Eddie just laughs and tells you that the girl with the shaved head was a science experiment, and that she has superpowers that helped them all save the world more than once.
You laugh at that, thinking he’s absolutely gone, but Robin and Steve smile knowingly. Their shared smiles grow when Robin alerts Steve subtly to the new development of the night, Steve having caught it as well.
Eddie and you had gotten closer at some point, now sharing a chair, his knee touching yours, the smoke pouring from his mouth crowding your airspace.
Eddie also keeps whispering in your ear, things that make you giggle, leaning back into him.
Then you yawn suddenly, sadly admitting, “Guess I’d better head home before I’m too messed up to drive.”
“One could argue that you reached that limit two drinks ago.” Robin points out, gesturing to the scene of you practically splayed across Eddie’s lap.
At that you flushed, glancing back at Eddie nervously, apologetic, and Steve nudged Robin roughly for undermining his mission.
“Oops,” you breathed. “Sorry Eddie. I get kinda touchy when I drink.”
“I’m not complaining.” It's flirtatious, but there’s an edge of seriousness to it as well. A touch of nerves. You hide your smile behind the red solo cup.
“So, I just meant like…stay.” Robin admits. “I’m sure Steve can spare a couch.”
“I absolutely can. Couches all around, for all my friends.” He holds a drink up to toast to that, inquiring “What do you say?”
“Alright, why not?” You laugh. “Can’t promise that I’ll be that much fun anymore though, I get sleepy after smoking.” Your head lolls to the side to emphasize that point, not minding when it makes contact with Eddie’s shoulder that’s in the path of the movement.
Touchy, check.
Sleepy, check.
“I’m feeling better and better about our decision not to let you drive home.” Steve snickers.
Eddie juts his chin out toward the pool. “You should take a dip. Wake you right up.”
“Um, no.” You chuckle, gesturing to the character on your chest. “Eddie doesn’t swim.”
“It’s called, Eddie?” Robin’s eyes bug out as she nods and laughs. At the same time their Eddie leans in and whispers something suggestive, earning a breathless laugh and elbow to his ribs.
Then you disentangle from the man, scrambling to your feet, “Bathroom?” You ask Steve.
“Downstairs just past the kitchen.” He lets you know, and you thank him, headed inside.
Steve and Robin immediately turn their attention to Eddie once you’re out of sight.
“What? Do I have something in my hair?” He asks in a manner that’s much too innocent.
“Dude,” Steve sighs, while Robin grumbles how men are clueless.
“What?” Eddie asks again, a much more sharp sounding whine.
“You know what - she likes you, and you clearly like her. Ask her out.” Robin insists.
“Since when do you two care about my love life?” Eddie deflects, a tad embarrassed at how obvious he had been.
“Since your soulmate was literally hand delivered by Steve earlier this evening.” Robin snarks.
“Soulmate?” Eddie laughs. “Aw man, having a girlfriend has totally made you soft, Buckley.”
“Tell you what.” Steve suggests, not letting him weasel his way out of it with that subtle change of subject. “I’ll make you a little wager. If I win, you accept that that’s your soulmate in there, and you do something about it. Ask her out…If I lose, it's the dealer's choice.”
Eddie purses his lips as he thinks about it, thinks about giving Steve a buzz cut but also about what he has to lose…the answer to which, is nothing.
Sure he might have been cynical about soulmates, but he would be lying if he said that he hadn’t been toying around with the idea of asking you out already. Might have even done it already were it not for his present company.
“So, what is the wager exactly?” Eddie asks slowly.
“Simple. I’m going to see if I can accurately guess the contents of Y/N’s pockets.” Steve grins.
Eddie laughs. “That’s random as hell.”
“So?” Steve presses.
“You’ve got a deal.” He shrugs.
When you return a few minutes later, sitting in a new chair and making Eddie pout, Steve puts his plan into action.
“Hey, Y/N?” He asks.
“Hm?” You question around a sip of your drink.
“Can I see your dice?” He presses, hiding his smile.
“Dice?” You sound a tad confused, but mostly amused. Eddie watches with rapt fascination.
“Yeah I’m uh…at a crossroads.” Steve hints, holding his hand out to you expectantly.
You look at him for an extended period, before reaching into your pocket and producing the small colorful handful that Steve knew you had on you at all times.
Robin and Steve both wished that they had Johnathan’s camera in order to capture the expression on Eddie’s face - slack jaw and rounded eyes - as he takes in the unmistakable shapes in your palms.
Steve plucks the D20 from your hands, rolling it, knowing it won’t matter what it lands on. Still, it comes out high.
“I think that that’s a hit, wouldn’t you say Eddie?” He teases the older man.
Eddie still hasn’t taken his eyes off of you. “You just - you just carry those around with you?”
“Sure.” You let out a small nervous laugh. “It’s incredibly lame, I know.”
Eddie shakes his head. “Not lame. Cool. Very cool.” Then Eddie’s head snaps up to Steve and Robin with a glare. “Didn’t you guys just say you were going to…get the couches ready or something?”
They scramble up in understanding, nodding, leaving the two alone.
You are utterly confused, more so when Eddie moves off of his chair, kneeling in front of you now that you’re alone.
“Do you, uh, do you think I might be able to take you out sometime?” He rubs the back of his neck nervously, a sweet grin splitting his face.
You blink in surprise “Ye-uh-yes.” Nodding enthusiastically. “…Totally.” You want to cringe at how awkward you are.
Eddie beams at you despite that. “Awesome.”
Steve and Robin, who are peering through the shades that cover Steve’s windows, cheer and celebrate when they see Eddie lean down and plant a kiss right on your red lips.
When you two eventually join them inside, you both take up residence on the pull out couch together, Steve and Robin sleeping upstairs.
And if in the middle of the night, Steve hears the springs of that shitty mattress squeaking, accompanied by a plethora of other muted sounds, he chooses to ignore it for his friend’s sake.
It had, after all, turned out better than he could have imagined.
In the coming days and weeks, he hears little snippets from everyone in the gang, which has in fact grown now to include you.
The updates make Steve smile, especially the little glimpses into your developing relationship with the metal head who is absolutely smitten with you.
You two are inseparable - except for when you work and the nights where you held your respective D&D campaigns.
It’s just before one of those when the kids file into the video store, Steve taking notice of them immediately.
Despite how busy it is, being Saturday, he can’t help but notice that something seems off. And that seems more important than stocking chick flicks on shelves.
“Hey kids, why the long faces?” Steve asks.
“Mike’s parents are redoing the basement.” Will pouts, to which Steve immediately nods in understanding.
They’d been using Wheeler’s basement to host their D&D games with Eddie, since Sundays between church and football there wasn’t much chance of his parents bothering them.
Now, it seems like they needed a place to play. And parents were the recurring issue at their every option.
Steve didn’t have that problem.
“Why not use my house?” Steve suggests, interrupting their batting around of ideas.
The kids' faces light up. “Really?”
This is it, Steve thinks. He nods, telling them “Sure!” Before clearing his throat nervously. “Could I…could I play?”
Several surprised expressions greet him. “You want to play D&D?”
“Yeah.” Steve grins a little. “Why not?”
They, of course, allow it. So that’s how they all end up on a Sunday night at Steve’s house.
Eddie had sauntered in early to set the whole thing up, trying to pry into Steve’s sudden interest, to no avail, only relenting once the kids showed up and they actually got started.
They’re all surprised when Steve brandishes a fully flushed out character. More so by his bold strokes and luck with the dice.
The game is in full swing when the sound of your car pulling up alerts everyone to your presence.
You didn’t usually come see their game - but you knew it was Steve’s first with them, and you’d promised you wouldn’t miss it.
Eddie is ecstatic to have you there, his whole face lighting up as he rushes over to open your door for you.
“Hi princess.” He purrs, giving you a soft kiss on the lips.
“Eddie,” you protest the nickname with a flush. He loves to watch you squirm, leading you over to his throne. It wasn’t the same one from years ago in hellfire - this one didn’t belong to the school, but had been gifted to him as a graduation present.
The kids had hoped it would inspire him to host the game even without the club - and it had definitely helped. Now it went wherever the game did. Most recently, Eddie had saved it from whatever decorating atrocity was taking place at the Wheeler’s.
Eddie settles into it now, pulling you happily into his lap.
“Confronting deadly peril, Steve?” You ask curiously, a mischievous glint in your eye.
“…with surprising success.” Eddie admits at Steve’s modest shrug.
You give Steve a wide grin. “Is that right?” In answer, he winks at you. Eddie’s hands instinctively tighten on your waist, though he knows there’s no malice behind the action.
You wave a hand indicating for them to proceed. They don’t need much more prodding to launch back into it, Eddie leading them on a perilous journey that has him gripping your hips firmly to stop your wriggling in his lap.
“Sweetheart if you don’t cut that out…” he warns in a low voice - a voice much more familiar than the one he uses to narrate - as the party discusses their next move.
You grin sheepishly at him, and he peppers little kisses to your neck, with fevered promises of…later.
Your giggling is interrupted as Steve leads a charge against Eddie, giving the dungeon master a run for his money.
It’s quick - efficient - ruthless. He makes you proud. Eddie gives him everything he has in return, but Steve’s meticulous rolling leaves him with the upper hand. Eddie turns over the miniature of the villain this week, admitting defeat.
The party cheers - Dustin shaking Steve vigorously and Mike and Lucas slapping his back while Erica paraded around in victory.
Eddie doesn’t mind their beating his campaign, and he never has. But still, here now with the promise of you, all riled up before they’d concluded, he’s more than happy to be finished, eager to clear out of there.
He starts packing things up, and you help him, fondness in your eyes when you see the adoration the younger kids show for Steve.
Your actions make him think. “I don’t suppose…” Eddie draws the words out slowly. “That you would have anything to do with…that.” He nods at Steve’s character sheet he’d left on the table.
“I’m afraid so.” You give a faux sigh before explaining with a slight edge of pride. “Taught him everything he knows.”
You beam at Eddie, and he’s suddenly, if possible, more eager, to get you to himself.
An impressed whistle left his lips. “You have no idea the kind of monster you created, my love.”
You laugh at that as the kids overheard, understanding washing over them, Erica being the one to shriek. “I knew he couldn’t be that good!”
“Oh I have…some semblance of an idea.” You bat your lashes at him.
Eddie is fucking enamored with you. He pulls you in and kisses you deeply, he can’t help himself.
“Not in front of the children you two!” Steve protests, throwing a pillow from his couch at you, thinking that it was him who created the monster.
And he couldn’t have been happier about it.

No More Running: Chapter 2 - Deja Vu
The morning had moved in a haze. Eddie was so dammed tired, and tired of being tired. His morning classes he'd found himself drifting in and out of sleep at his desk. His teachers were used to it though, they were just happy that he was actually in class for once, and with everything everyone had just gone through everyone was fighting for a sense of normalcy. It's hard to just resume life when everything you thought you knew about reality was turned upside down (literally).
Street crews were still working on repairing roads, and buildings were being rebuilt. FEMA had been dispatched to help, and grants had been given. Every able-bodied person was volunteering in some shape way or form. The schools had been one of the first things to be fixed up again, and they weren't perfect by any means but at least they were safe and gave the kids and staff something to do again. A sense of purpose. The end of the year was quickly approaching, which meant that graduation was right on the horizon. Eddie couldn't believe he actually was going to do it. He had talked a lot of shit in the cafeteria that day, that day that felt so very long ago now. But as it turns out, this really was going to be his year. He had managed to pull most of his grades up to various Cs, with the exception of Ms. O'Donnell's class. He was sitting at a D+ in there. He wasn't entirely sure that some of the points weren't pity points, but you know what? He'd take it.
The lunch bell rang, and Eddie scurried his way to the cafeteria to take his place at the head of the Hellfire Club's table. He was more than just a little excited. This Friday was to be the clubs first campaign since the upside down. He had been spending the last week or so now planning it all out. Gareth and Jeff were the first to arrive at the table, shortly followed by the rest. Dustin, Mike and Lucas came as a trio... Dustin was practically vibrating with excitement as he sat down directly to Eddie's left.
"Give us a clue man! PLEASE!" - Dustin said as he bounced up and down in his seat, not even touching the tray in front of him, eyes glued on Eddie as he munched on his pretzels
Eddie grinned at him then "Henderson, you know that I can't do that. I have to keep you in suspense man."
"JUST A TINY ONE!?" whined Dustin
Eddie heavily sighed, making it dramatic and drawn out. Rolling his eyes and lean forward over the table, drawing all of his little sheep eagerly forward to listen. "Okay... here's your what I'll tell you...." he pauses taking the time to look at every single one of them "there will be....... bad guys." he flopped back in his seat and grinned as the table outbursts in groans and aggravation
"That's not a clue." groaned Dustin
Eddie clapped his hand over Dustin's shoulder and gave him his best shit eating grin. The two had always been close, Dustin being his club favorite (he'd never tell him that though) but after their battle in the Upside Down when Dustin had almost lost Eddie to those dammed bats, he practically worshipped the ground Eddie walked on and followed him like a shadow. Eddie didn't mind as he'd grown even more fond of him too. To Eddie Dustin was like the little brother he had always wished for growing up. He was planning on handing the Hellfire reigns to him when he left this godforsaken school / town. Holy shit... holy shit that was soon.
Sitting back in his chair Eddie found himself zoning out a bit, lost in thoughts of what would come after school. He really didn't know yet what he wanted to do... he didn't think he'd make it this far. Yeah, he talked a lot of shit about this being his year and graduating but now that it was real a ball of anxiety formed in his chest. Would Hellfire and Dustin be okay if he left this shithole? What about his uncle? Wayne was always protective over him, but now after everything... when the gang brought Eddie home from the upside down covered in strips of everyone's clothing on the worst bites, looking pale and dropping in and out of consciousness...he can't even fathom what that was like for his uncle.
He knew that Wayne had spent DAYS upon DAYS beside Eddie's bed in the hospital until the hospital deemed him ready to go home. He had spent days hovering at home, ensuring clean clothes and bandages, plenty of food in the fridge - easy to grab and heat meals so Eddie wouldn't have to strain himself.
Wayne blamed himself in some ways despite their constant talks not to. Eddie had told Wayne everything even before El went before the town. His uncle had sat in silence listening, brows furrowed deeply but otherwise expression unreadable. Eddie knew that it all sounded too wild to be true, but he had never lied to his uncle before so he didn't think his uncle would doubt him, and he didn't. As it turned out his uncle had never lost faith in him, even after finding Chrissy's broken body in their trailer upon returning home after a grueling shift at the plant.
Eddie was so incredibly thankful for his uncle. He truly was like the father his father never could have been. He didn't know it, but his uncle had been so incredibly relieved when Eddie had reappeared on his doorstep, dragged along by a group of haggard and bleeding teenagers. Even before hearing the situation, he had just been so thankful to have his nephew back. His nephew deserved so much better than the town was giving him. He knew his nephew to be a kindhearted soul who wouldn't hurt a fly unless it was to protect the people he loved.
The lunch bell rang signaling the end of lunch and Eddie stood, shoving what was left of his pretzels into his black lunchbox that also contained a small bit of weed. He didn't have much of a stash left and mostly kept what he did have on hand for himself, to help him sleep at night... but he still had to make a sell here and there so he could help his uncle with the bills. He wasn't about to be completely useless to the man who had raised him. Though now that he was graduating maybe it was time to start thinking about a real job... but what would that be for Eddie? What did he want to do for the rest of his life... or at least the next couple of years right? Enough time to save up and get the fuck out of this hell hole Hawkins.
"Earth to Eddie? Eddie?" chimed his favorite curly headed dork, snapping his thoughts out of his head and back to the cafeteria
"Yeah man? Dude, I'm not giving you anymore clues, even if you did save my ass." Eddie quipped, cracking a grin
Dustin shook his head "I was asking if you're, okay? Like really?"
Eddie smiled a gentle smile. Dustin had mentally grown up so much since the Upside Down, but I mean of course he did. That shit would have forced anyone to grow up fast. "I'm okay Dustybutt. I'm still not sleeping the best is all" he said with a shrug knowing he had to give the kid something or he'd just pester him all day "but I'm good. You?"
Dustin looked down at his shoes and shrugged "I could be better. I keep seeing them you know? Those damn bats. I thought you were gone...I thought I'd failed you..." his voice trailed off softly.
Eddie put and arm over his shoulder and pulled him into an awkward half hug "We've been over this kid; you did everything right except the part when you came back...that was risky as hell... but I'm glad that you did. You saved my ass man." he said and tussled the kids' curly brown locks
Dustin shrugged again "Steve and Nance did most of the work. I just was kind of useless and there."
Eddie stopped him and stepped in front of him, hand on Dustin's chest "Little dude. Stop seriously, you didn't leave me. You came back for me. If not for you, they would never have found me...AND you gave up your shirt to keep my ass alive. You need to start giving yourself credit where credit is deserved. You saved me too. You are not useless. I love you man. I quite literally owe you, my life."
Dustin's eyes welled up and he looked down again and muttered softly "I love you too. I'm glad you didn't die."
Eddie hugged the freshie again and said simply "Get to class! And quit crying! We've got a game this weekend to plan!"
Dustin's eyes shot up, glassy still but now lit with excitement at the underlying message in Eddie's words "Wait what?!"
"I said what I said kid. Wait for me tonight, you can help me finish off campaign plans and co-DM this week's campaign. Afterall, you're going to be taking over for me here REAL soon." Eddie grinned
"YES!!!! YESSSSSSSSS!! THIS IS AWESOME!!!!" Dustin fist pumped and then shot himself down the hall, eager for the day to be over with. Meanwhile Eddie watched him disappear into the sea of bodies and laughed to himself before heading to class.

don't you forget about me (steddie fic)
saw this post and was inspired to write something angsty <3
The first thing Eddie is aware of when he wakes up, before he even opens his eyes, is the dull, aching pain throbbing through pretty much his entire body. The second thing he’s aware of is that someone is holding his hand.
“Eddie?” The hand in his tightens its grip as Eddie begins to stir; the voice it presumably belongs to sounds immeasurably relieved, yet only vaguely familiar.
Eddie groans. His eyelids flutter, blinking awake, and he groggily rolls his head to the side to get a look at whoever had spoken.
The voice sighs again, “Oh thank god-”
“Harrington?” Eddie’s eyes fly open wide now as they land on the mystery man sitting beside him on the edge of the bed - a man he most definitely is not close enough with to be holding his hand, and a bed that is most definitely not his own. He snatches his hand away. “What the hell are you doing? Where am I?”
“Ed-” Another man’s voice, this one just as relieved and infinitely more familiar. It fills Eddie with relief too as he looks to his other side to find his uncle Wayne rising from a nearby chair to come up next to him.
“Wayne, what-?” His surroundings are becoming more clear. “What happened? Why am I in a hospital? And why the fuck is King Steve at my bedside?” Eddie tries to sit up only to gasp and wince in pain as the dull ache in his sides sharpens to near agony at the movement.
“Take it easy, son.” Wayne’s hand lands on his shoulder, gently but firmly pushing him back down onto the pillows. “You were hurt real bad.”
“Yeah, I got that,” Eddie grumbles out. He sucks in a deep, intentional breath and exhales slowly, the pain beginning to dull again now that he’s settled. His questions are still largely unanswered, though. Blank mind reaching desperately for any logical piece to this bizarre puzzle, he turns an accusing glare to Harrington. “Did you land me in here? Is that why you’re here, some sort of weird guilt thing?”
Harrington’s looking at him like a kicked puppy. “What? No, I-” he falters, takes a shaky breath and swallows painfully like he’s trying not to cry. “You don’t remember?”
“I don’t remember what? Will someone just tell me what happened?” Eddie’s confusion is rising more and more into agitation with every second he remains without an explanation.
“What’s the last thing you remember?” Harrington asks quietly.
“I was driving home from school, just found out I wasn’t gonna graduate again.” Eddie frowns as he thinks back, still trying to put pieces together. “Did I crash my car? Is that it? I was emotional and not paying attention and got into an accident?”
Yet again, he receives no answers.
“Eddie, what month is it?” Wayne asks instead, his tone dangerously measured and serious. “What year?”
“May…” Eddie says warily, “1985.”
His words hold a weight he doesn’t understand, landing heavy on the others in the room and thickening the air. It sends a chill of dread down his spine, the way his answer etches concern deep into the lines of Wayne’s face, the way Steve Harrington seems to take it like a blow to the chest.
Harrington exhales sharply as if he’s been punched, standing abruptly and taking a few stumbling steps back. Wayne says, “It’s April of ‘86, Ed.”
Eddie’s blood runs cold. “No. No, it can’t be.”
“I’m gonna go tell the nurse you’re awake,” Harrington mumbles, his voice strained and his eyes glassy with barely held-back tears.
“I’ll go,” Wayne offers, pushing himself away from Eddie’s bed. He gives Harrington a meaningful look, though what that meaning is, Eddie can’t decipher.
Harrington turns his devastated gaze to the older man. “But, Wayne, he doesn’t-”
“I know, kid.” Wayne gives a sad smile and places a sympathetic hand on Harrington’s shoulder as he passes by. “Just talk to him.”
Eddie is thrown off by this familiarity between them. Since when were those two close? He feels like he’s entered some sort of parallel universe where everything is just ever so slightly wrong. It leaves an itch beneath his skin, uncomfortable and out of place, like he no longer quite fits in his own body, in his own life. He’s lost 11 months, apparently, and this world is no longer his; he doesn’t know where he fits into it anymore.
Wayne leaves the room, and Eddie wants to protest: Don’t leave me here with this guy I don’t know in this time I don’t know, please, you’re the only thing that feels safe and familiar! Anxiety is crawling through him like a thousand tiny bugs in his veins. He wants to scream, he wants to cry, he wants to run. Anything to shake this feeling loose. But he’s confined to this bed, trapped both by his pain and by all these machines he’s hooked up to, and he sure as shit isn’t going to have a breakdown in front of Steve goddamn Harrington.
Instead, Eddie resigns himself to this situation and casts a sideways glance at Harrington who very much looks like he’s also trying not to have a breakdown. “I’m freaking out, man,” Eddie says finally, hating how shaky and pathetic his voice sounds. “I swear to god, Harrington, if you don’t tell me what the hell is going on…”
Harrington worries his lip between his teeth as he hesitates. “It’s a lot to explain.”
“Yeah, I bet,” Eddie scoffs out a humorless laugh. “I’m missing nearly an entire year, of course it’s a lot to fill in. Unless I’ve been here this whole time?”
“No.” Harrington shakes his head. “No, you’ve only been here about a week. I- I don’t know why you’re missing so much time, the whole Vecna thing only started like a week before that-”
“Vecna?” Eddie interrupts to question. “What does any of this have to do with the D&D campaign I was planning? And, also, how the fuck do you know about that?”
Harrington closes his eyes for a second and takes a breath, like having this conversation is the most painful thing he’s ever had to do. “I’m not talking about D&D, Ed. Vecna was a real-life monster from a real-life alternate dimension we called the Upside-Down. The kids only called him Vecna because we didn’t know who he was at the time and he, like, cursed people before he killed them, but he was actually Henry Creel, which is a whole other fucked up story.”
“Okay…” Eddie doesn’t know who ‘the kids’ are and he’s skeptical of the way Harrington talks so factually about monsters and dimensions and curses existing in the real world, but he does remember his uncle telling him stories about the demonic tragedy of the Creel family, which is the only thing that makes any of this even halfway believable. It still doesn’t explain how Eddie wound up in the hospital with his entire body feeling like it’d been run through a blender, though, or why the former king of Hawkin’s High was hovering over his sickbed. He gestures for Harrington to continue.
“I never wanted you to get involved in all this Upside-Down shit,” Harrington’s voice breaks. He steps closer to Eddie’s bed again, and he looks so so sad as he stares down at him that it makes Eddie’s own heart ache, just a little bit. Harrington’s hand twitches at his side as if he means to reach out for Eddie but then thinks better of it, running the hand through his hair instead as he continues, “I tried to keep you from it for so long, I really did, but then Vecna killed Chrissy in your trailer and the whole town blamed you and you were just a part of things then, there was no getting around it. You helped us fight him - Vecna. You kept his army of bats off our ass while we weakened his body and El weakened his mind. If it weren’t for you we never would’ve defeated him and we certainly wouldn’t have all made it out alive.” Harrington’s gaze softens, as does his voice, his next words almost a whisper, “You were a hero, Eddie.”
“That doesn’t sound like me,” Eddie says, like that’s the least plausible part of Harrington’s story. And, really, it is. He can wrap his mind around a lot of things: a murder in his trailer - sure, Forest Hills always was a shady place; the whole town accusing him of being a killer - yeah, of course, that tracks; even an evil wizard from another dimension with an army of bats - fine, okay, why the hell not. But Eddie Munson is no hero, and he’s definitely not any sort of fighter either.
“No, you never did think so, did you?” Harrington mutters with a sad sort of fondness and the barest trace of a wistful smile. “But it’s true. Dustin was in danger and you didn’t even think twice. You ran right into the fray without a second thought, sacrificed yourself so that the rest of us might survive. Those bats nearly killed you, b-” he breaks, choking on whatever word he was going to say. His eyes swim with yet more unshed tears. “I almost thought they had killed you, you know. I thought you were dead when I carried you out of the Upside-Down,” he admits shakily, choked up and barely managed, “and even when I brought you here and you were stable, I was still so scared you wouldn’t wake up…”
Eddie doesn’t know how to react to any of that information or to such a display of emotion. His own hands twitch now with the urge to reach out and comfort him, but he too denies that instinct. He tries for humor instead, something lighter, cracking a grin and teasing, “Aw, Stevie, I didn’t know you cared.”
Harrington makes a sound halfway between a sob and a laugh. “Oh, Ed, you have no idea.”
“We were friends then, weren’t we?” Eddie guesses now, carefully. It’s rapidly becoming the only possible explanation for the guy’s behavior around him. “Before all the Vecna stuff?”
“Yeah,” Harrington manages, forcing a small, sad smile as his eyes finally overflow and streak his cheeks with tears. “Yeah, we were good friends.”
~
Wayne reenters the room then with a nurse in tow, and Steve quickly turns away and rubs his hands over his face. He needs to pull himself together; he can’t break down right now, not yet, not here.
He listens, distantly, as the nurse asks Eddie a bunch of questions and then tells the rest of them that she needs to take him in for some tests to determine the cause and prognosis of Eddie’s amnesia. He watches, numbly, as she wheels Eddie’s entire bed out of the room.
Steve can barely hear, barely see, his emotion clouding his eyes and roaring in his ears. He stares blankly through the open doorway and struggles to swallow down the ever-rising lump in his throat.
Wayne’s voice rumbles from somewhere beside him, but he can’t quite make out the words. “What?”
“I’ll take that as a no, then,” Wayne says, the sound reaching Steve’s ears a little clearer now. “I asked if you were alright.”
Steve shakes his head. His voice comes out coarse and raw, “‘Course I’m not alright.”
“Right, ‘course you’re not,” Wayne echoes. He follows Steve’s mournful gaze to the door Eddie had disappeared through. “What did you tell him?”
“Told him he was a hero,” Steve croaks, “...and that we were good friends.”
“Ah…” Steve’s vision is so blurred behind a thick layer of tears he can’t see the sympathetic frown on the old man’s face, but he knows it’s there. “At least he’s alive, kid,” Wayne tries to be comforting. “You can always start over.”
“Yeah, I know, but I don’t- I don’t want to start over, I just want-” Steve chokes back a sob. He just wants Eddie.
It’s a horrible thought, but Steve almost thinks that this just might be worse than if Eddie really had died… Because how is Steve supposed to handle the fact that his boyfriend of 9 months no longer knows him? How is he supposed to cope now that the love of his life looks right at him and no longer sees him?
He closes his eyes, presses the heels of his palms into his eyelids, inhaling a shaky breath and exhaling an even shakier sigh. Steve whispers, “It feels like I’m losing him all over again.”

Steve was flipping through a magazine on Eddie’s bed when the thought came to him.
He looked over at Eddie where he was sitting cross-legged on the floor playing around on his guitar. He’d been working out some part of a song while Steve half-listened. He said Steve “helped him think,” whatever that meant.
Steve had realized he didn’t know Eddie’s name. Or at least, what it was short for. He’d become quite close with the older boy since the spring, since he carried his lifeless body out of the upside down, since El closed the gate and burned Vecna and the entire second world to the ground.
Steve didn’t quite understand how he felt about Eddie yet. He knew he really liked him, felt drawn to him, enjoyed his presence, his personality, his appearance.
Okay so maybe Steve knew more than he was willing to admit to himself.
Eddie’s guitar made an unsatisfactory noise and Eddie shook his head, rubbed his forehead in frustration, and looked up at Steve. He smirked when he saw Steve already looking back, and raised an eyebrow. “Can I help you?”
Steve rolled his eyes, letting the snark roll off his back. “Yeah, actually. I’ve been wondering something.”
Eddie raised both eyebrows this time. “Oh? I never pegged you as the curious type.”
“Alright, keep the sass to yourself, Munson.”
Eddie threw his head back and laughed, his curls falling behind his shoulders to expose his long neck.
Focus, Steve.
“What’s Eddie short for?”
Eddie’s light smile turned into a wolfish grin. “Trying to fill out the marriage license?”
Steve groaned and threw the magazine at Eddie, hitting him on the knee.
“Whoa whoa Steve, watch the baby.”
“See you’re clearly already married to that stupid guitar.”
Eddie gasped theatrically, folding himself around the guitar as if to protect it from harm. “He doesn’t mean that dear, you’re a very smart guitar.”
“Booooooo”
Eddie almost fell backwards with laughter. Steve couldn’t help but giggle a bit himself, charmed by Eddie being so proud of his own joke.
“Eddie.”
“Steve.”
“You avoided the question.”
Eddie chuckled, resting his forearms on the guitar. “Clever boy.”
Steve would be lying if he said his breath didn’t catch, if his heartbeat didn’t quicken, his entire body didn’t feel a bit warmer.
Yes, Steve would continue lying for today.
He shook his head. “Eddie. Just tell me. Is it embarrassing?”
Eddie smiled up at Steve, revealing nothing. “Absolutely not.”
“Then why won’t you tell me?”
“Now where is the mystery in that?”
Steve groaned again and fell back on the bed. “You’re so difficult. You know that?”
Eddie threw the magazine back at Steve. “I’ve been told a few times.”
Movie night at Steve’s, waiting for Robin to return with her popcorn:
“Edward?”
Eddie let out a sharp laugh. “No.”
Family Video, rewinding tapes while Eddie sewed a W.A.S.P. patch onto his new, non-blood-stained battle vest:
“Edison?”
Eddie recoiled. “What? Oh. No.”
Picking up the rugrats from Hellfire, leaning on Eddie’s van:
“Edmund?”
“Steve. Gross. No.”
Laying on the hood of Steve’s car at Lover’s Lake, stoned and looking up at the stars:
“Edwise?”
“What?”
“Edwise? Edwise Gamgee?”
Eddie cackled out into the night sky, echoes of his joy calling back at them from the trees. “Okay, who gave you access to Lord of the Rings?”
Steve shrugged. “I had to call in backup.”
Eddie rolled onto his side to face Steve, propping up his head on his hand. “You asked the kids what my name was?”
“Yeah.”
“And the best thing those little geniuses could come up with was goddamn Edwise Gamgee???”
Steve giggled. “They’re such nerds.”
“Absolute fucking losers, Harrington.”
They both laughed until they were out of breath, panting out steam in the fall Indiana night.
“No but seriously, Eddie? What is it?”
Eddie sighed, straining a smile as he stared up at the night sky. “It’s pretty fucking lame.”
“Lamer than Edwise Gamgee??”
That made Eddie giggle again. “No, I guess not.”
They sat in silence a moment, Steve patiently waiting, and Eddie gathering courage.
“It’s just Eddie.”
Steve turned to look at Eddie’s profile. He was beautiful in the cool near-darkness, the moon hitting his face at just the right angle to sharpen his features.
“Just Eddie?”
Eddie nodded. “Just Eddie. Nothing special or interesting or exciting. It’s just plain, boring old Eddie.”
Steve blinked.
Steve blinked again.
And before Steve knew it, he was taking Eddie’s hand in his own.
Eddie’s breath caught and he continued to look up at the sky, too afraid to meet Steve’s eyes.
“Eddie. I hate to break this to you, but I am pretty sure you are physically incapable of being boring.”
Eddie snickered and stopped himself.
“I mean it. You might be the craziest person I’ve ever met. You refuse to fit in to a box you’ve outgrown. You’re too goddamn stubborn to do what people expect of you. You stand up for yourself and people who need you. You’re kind and gentle with the people you love.”
Steve took Eddie’s cheek with the hand not holding his and turned Eddie to face him. “You are the most exciting, interesting, and special person I’ve ever met.”
And with that, Eddie had heard enough.
Eddie kissed Steve.
And Eddie did not stop kissing Steve until he was bent over him, knees straddling his waist and hands in his hair.
Steve gripped Eddie’s hips and pushed him back, pausing to catch his breath. Eddie panted above him and laughed down at him, his lips reddened and his eyes blown wide. He looked absolutely insane. Absolutely gorgeous.
“Hey Eds?”
“Yeah, Steve?”
“You never asked me what Steve was short for.”
Eddie’s eyes narrowed. “What is Steve short for?”
Steve panted a light laugh. “It’s just Steve.”
Eddie paused.
And Eddie laughed.
And Eddie couldn’t stop laughing for a very long time.
The next year, Eddie signed a Valentine card “To: Just Steve.” and “Love: Just Eddie.”
That winter, Steve arranged restaurant reservations under the name of “Just Eddie”
The following summer, Eddie got down on one knee and asked “Just Steve” to marry him, and when Steve asked “What about the law?” Eddie said “it’s Just the law.”
The spring after, Steve read his vows in front of his entire chosen family. His voice faltered as he said “You’re Just Eddie the way the sun is Just a star. The way the moon is Just a rock. The way the earth is Just a planet. You are my home. You are where I belong.”
Three years after Steve carried Eddie out of the Upside Down, Eddie carried Steve across the threshold of their tiny apartment in Indianapolis.

It had been nearly a month since the fallout of ‘defeating’ Vecna. The earthquakes, the evacuation, the chaos. The only silver lining was that hunting Eddie was no longer the main priority for the town and you’d been able to smuggle him out. The two of you had rented an RV and were hidden off the grid. The rest of the gang occasionally stopped by to check in and to drop supplies, but for the most part it was just you and Eddie.
You thought this time together, completely alone, would be a haven. Getting to spend unlimited time with the boy you loved so much it almost pained you. But it wasn’t.
Eddie was distant and closed off, often zoning out completely even when you were talking to him. You knew he was recovering, both physically and mentally, from his time in the upside down. You knew he was being plagued by nightmares and flashbacks. But the thing that pained you the most was that he just wouldn’t let you help him.
He refused to talk about it. And furthermore he refused to let you help him anyway. He wouldn’t let you tend to his wounds He wouldn’t even let your hands get anywhere near his torso.
Yes, it had been nearly a month since the fallout of ‘defeating’ Vecna, and it had also been nearly a month since you and Eddie had last been together, intimately speaking. You hadn’t even seen him shirtless in that time frame either. Before the incident he used to always walk around the trailer shirtless, feeling completely comfortable and at ease around you. But now... now he scurried into the bathroom to get changed. He held the hem of his shirt down whenever he reached for something on a high shelf, refusing to let even just a sliver of his belly show.
But the worst of it? The worst of it was the way he wouldn’t let you touch him anymore, or how he wouldn't touch you either. He flinched any time your hands came anywhere near his torso. The only way he’d let you hug him was with your arms around his neck, and even then it was nowhere near the kinds of hugs you used to share before, where his entire body would engulf you and clutch you impossibly close to him.
You knew he needed time to heal, both physically and emotionally. But, truth be told, you weren’t sure how much longer you could last. Both your heart and your body ached for him, ached for just a glimpse of the boy you knew.
You'd thought you were finally making progress the other day when you ended up in a heavy makeup session. You were on top of him, your lips moving fervently against his, your legs on either side of his hips, grinding into him like your life depended on it. You were already wet, desperately aching for his touch, and you could feel how hard he was beneath you. But as soon as your hands had made their way down his neck towards his torso he froze completely, stopping all movements and telling you he needed a minute before he all but ran away from you, leaving you desperate, frustrated, but above all, sad.
You tried every day, every single day, to coax out the boy you knew. Playing his favourite music, cooking his favourite foods, picking his favourite movies to watch. You’d walk around wearing nothing but one his shirts, fishing for a reaction. Something, anything. Just anything to gain kind some kind of response from him. But he’d simply smile politely, make small talk, and then spend the evening sitting quietly with you just next to him, at most your thighs touching.
It had been this way for a month and clearly nothing was working. So today, you gave up. You sat in silence. Didn’t put the effort into trying anymore. You were at your wits end, what else were you supposed to do?
Eddie sits beside you on the bed, his hands playing awkwardly in his lap as whatever movie you’d let him pick plays softly in front of you. You’d zoned out long ago, sat in a world of your own thoughts; memories of the times you’d used to share with your fun loving boyfriend. You also couldn’t help that your mind had started to wonder back to other types of memories. You can’t help as you start to feel yourself get wet, trying to discreetly rub your thighs just to get some kind of friction. Flashbacks of him kissing you, touching you, fucking you...
“What’s wrong?” Eddie’s voice suddenly cuts through your reverie.
“What?” You blink at him in confusion.
“What’s wrong?” He repeats. “You’ve been really quiet today. Distant” he shrugs.
You scoff incredulously; “I've been distant?"
He looks at you nervously when he hears the edge in your tone.
“You’re one to talk, Munson” you continue. “I think that might be the first time you’ve spoken to me in a month without me prompting it first!” you hiss.
You see the hurt in his eyes and almost immediately regret your little outburst. You sigh, taking a moment to try and compose yourself, searching for the right words. It was now or never you supposed. You couldn’t keep going on like this; you guessed now was as good a time as any to try and talk to him.
“Eddie, have you even realised how distant you’ve been with me recently?” You ask him gently. “Like I said, you’ve barley spoken two words to me in a month. You barely even acknowledge my presence, even when I’m sat right beside you. You don’t even look at me properly anymore. You don’t kiss me, you don’t hold me, you don’t touch me” your voice almost cracks with the tears that were threatening to spill.
He looks at you sadly, pain etched on his face.
“I know you’ve needed time to... deal with everything. So have I. But you wont even let me be there for you, you won’t let me help. You’ve been going through it all on your own even though I’m right here. I’ve tried everything I can think of to try and show you that but honestly I don’t know what else to do. I don’t know how else I can help you, and it’s breaking my heart. I just feel so useless. Amongst other things...” you murmur the last line to yourself.
You take another deep breath.
“I just, I- I miss you” you mumble quietly, brining your point to a conclusion.
You look at him sadly, feeling a tear prick your eye. You gently reach out a hand to cup his cheek. You feel him tense slightly before he leans lightly into your touch.
“I’m sorry” he whispers.
He stares into the distance for a moment before taking another deep breath.
“I’ve been neglecting you” he suddenly states, something like defeat lingering in his voice.
“No, no that’s not I meant. I just want to be there for you, I want you to let me be there for you” you try to reassure him quickly.
“Yeah but I closed myself off, didn’t I? And in that process I wasn't there for you either.”
You shrug. That wasn’t exactly your main concern right now but he certainly wasn’t wrong; it was still a pretty big deal to you. Eddie reaches out to grab you, gently lifting you off the bed next to him and guiding you to straddle his lap. You were only wearing his t-shirt and some thin panties, meaning there was not much in the way between your aching pussy and the crotch of his jeans. You try bite back a moan as you feel the roughness of his pants against your cunt, but a small whimper escapes your lips. And Eddie is quick to notice.
“You missed me baby?” He tilts his head to the side as he looks at you.
“Yes, but-“ you were trying to keep on track to get this boy to open up to you but he cuts you off.
“You missed me touching you? You missed these hands?” He hums as he splays his hands over your thigh.
You nod, your hips starting to grind on their own accord. Your mind begins fog, your focus fading as Eddie's hands slide their way up your legs, sending shivers through your body.
“My poor baby, you must be so needy hmm? Just aching to be touched” he taunts.
When his hands reach your hips, running over the waistband of your panties, the last of your resolve crumbles. You nod again and tug on his hair, silently asking him to give you more. And he did. As his left hand finds a hold on your hip, his right hand dips underneath your panties. You whimper as he cups your pussy for a moment before he finally curls two fingers to run between your folds. You practically shiver from the sensation as he rubs his fingers up and down your slit, collecting the wetness that had already pulled there.
“Fuck sweetheart, did I really leave you that desperate? You’re fucking soaked” He groans loudly.
You mewl and nod your head, biting your lip pathetically.
“I was thinking about you” you whisper. “Thinking about how you used to touch me. How you used to fuck me” you nudge his nose with your own as your words come out in a breathy pant.
He groans deeply again as he starts to move his hand further down, his fingers now tracing your entrance,
“Yeah? Were you thinking about how good my fingers feel? Hmm?”
You nod again, bucking your hips against his fingers, effectively humping his hand.
“Yes,” you sigh, “your fingers always felt so good.”
“Yeah?” He taunts as he finally sinks two fingers inside you, both of them slipping in so easy thanks to how wet you were.
He slowly picks up his rhythm, pumping you with his two fingers, curling them in the way he knew drove you crazy.
“This poor pretty cunt of yours hasn’t been used for so long hmm?” He hums as he moves his thumb to start small circles on your clit.
You whimper, hitting an impossibly high pitch as you feel yourself race embarrassingly fast towards a climax.
“I’m so sorry baby” he groans, his lips attaching to your neck, peppering hot kisses across your throat. “I’ll make it up to you” he whispers the promise against your skin.
In the same breath he starts to speed up his movements, his fingers pumping in and out of you rapidly, his thumb swirling around your clit with even more fervour. You swear you almost feel another tear sting your eyes as pleasure courses through your body.
“Oh fuck, yes yes yes yes” you whisper incoherently as your orgasm blinds you, coming on impossibly fast.
The months worth of built up tension melting away as pleasure burns through you, your fingers dig painfully hard into Eddie’s shoulders as your body shakes and convulses. You almost didn’t even care that you’d cum so quickly; if anything it was just a testament to how much you needed this, just how desperate you had been for him.
“That’s my good girl” Eddie hums, kissing along your jaw.
He pumps you slowly a few more times before gently removing his fingers from you. You sigh, completely content in your post orgasmic bliss. But Eddie just smirks up at you.
“I hope you don’t think we're finished, sweetheart. I’ve got a lot of time to make up for” he murmurs between kissing down your throat.
He stops to quickly help you shrug his shirt off your body before he carries on kissing down your chest. He takes a moment to worship your tits, biting and swirling his tongue over each nipple, kissing and sucking hickies into the soft fleshy skin of your breasts. You squirm under his touch, pushing your hips into him, your pussy already aching with need again.
Once he’s finished his assault on your breasts he gently lifts you off him and lays you down on the mattress, flipping the two of you over. He kisses your lips sweetly before his kisses move down your body again. When he reaches your hip bones he hums against your skin, kissing tantalisingly close to where you wanted him, needed him, but not giving in just yet. He yanks your panties down your leg, shucking them off to the floor. Eddie then grabs your legs with his hands, opening you up and spreading you wide in front of him.
“Oh fuck” he groans into the skin of your thigh. “I’ve missed this sight. This pretty little pussy of yours” he kisses up and down your inner thighs. “Gonna worship it like I should’ve been doing ages ago” he promises, placing a kiss to the apex of your thigh.
Without hesitation he dives right into your pussy, his mouth wasting no time in latching onto your clit. You moan and arch your body in response, your head falling back onto the mattress.
“Fuck baby you taste so good” he sighs against your clit. “I’ve missed this taste” he murmurs between kitten licking your swollen clit. “Did you miss my tongue too, sweetheart?”
You can feel him smirk into your cunt as you just answer with a loud moan. You moan even louder when you realise that Eddie himself is humping the mattress, desperately grinding his still clothed crotch against the bed. Pleasuring you had only turned him on even more. Listening to your moans, the sound of his name falling from your lips; it had him aching for some kind of release of his own whilst he tongue fucked you. The sight of it was almost too much to bear. It was so hot watching him hump the bed like that that you feel your second climax race faster to the surface.
“Oh fuck, Eddie” you cry as your second orgasm crashes through you.
You gasp and moan between your laboured breathing, your chest heaving up and down as pleasure racks through you. Your fingers knot into his hair, holding him against you as you fuck yourself against his face, riding out your high. Eddie softly sucks on your clit, drawing out your orgasm for all it was worth. After he feels you start to convulse he finally releases your clit, placing a soft kiss to the inside of your right thigh.
Eddie looks up at you, your wetness glistening his lips and his chin. He gives you a small smile, looking at you as he gently kisses your thighs again. You moan loudly and sit up quickly. You grab the neck of Eddie’s shirt and pull him into you. Your lips crash against his, devouring the taste of yourself on his mouth. He hums a small sound of surprise before he groans, opening his mouth and letting your tongue slide over his. You use the element of surprise to your advantage, flipping Eddie over and pinning him to the bed with your hips.
You keep kissing him but immediately you can start to feel his hesitation. His hands on your hips are no longer pulling you against him but are rather holding you in place, not letting you rut against him like you wanted to. You slow down the kiss, slow down everything, thinking maybe if you just gave him a second you might be able to carry on.
But alas, just as your hands slide down his neck to his chest, rubbing over his shirt, his hands fly up to catch yours and halt their movements. His lips part from yours as he dips his head, his eyes locking on to where his hands held yours in place, almost as if he was afraid if he looked away they’d somehow find a way to those scars he was so desperate to keep hidden.
“Eddie, please...” you plead with him sadly. “It’s okay” you try to reassure him gently. “Just let me in. Let me see” you whisper.
“I can’t,” he breathes shakily, “I just can’t.”
Despite what had just occurred you still hadn’t reached the root of the issue, which mostly revolved around Eddie’s self-esteem issues. He may have touched you again, provided you some release, but you still hadn’t actually got through to him about letting you in, about opening up to you.
You’d gotten so lost in him finally touching you again that you’d missed it for what it actually was.... a distraction.
To be continued...

I need more of Eddie telling the band! Need it! Fix my brusied heart! Fix Steve's bruised heart! Tell me that he's everything! He is everything!!
Part 1 here.
Hope this fixes it <3 I'm going to admit my toxic trait is being angsty and not always being the best at fixing it. But I hope this is good. Thank you for reading!!
"Dude, what was that?" Gareth finally breaks the awkward silence between the 4 of them. They all look at Eddie.
He presses his palms to his eyes until he can see little white dots when he opens them again to stare at his three best friends. He feels like dirt. Actually less than dirt. He cared so much about what they would think of his dating Steve, that not only did hurt his favorite person in the whole world, but he did not even trust his friends enough to give them a chance. He finally lets out a sigh before saying "That was me fucking up. Like royally fucking up.".
"You going to explain, maybe?" Jeff asks, slowly putting the pieces together but confirmation from Eddie would be nice.
"I, um, I mean Steve and I have been seeing each other for the past 6 months, since Spring Break actually." Eddie finally says, holding his breath, waiting for a response.
"You guys have been seeing each other for six months?" Garreth parrots back in disbelief.
"Yea. He's my boyfriend...well he was. I actually don't know now." Eddie says sadly.
"You have been together for like half a year, and you didn't tell us, why?" Caleb asks, confused in why Eddie would hide this.
"I don’t know, man. It's just, in high school we would talk so much shit about people like Steve. And I know Steve better now, so I know how much of a great guy he is but like he is still an ex-jock. And I was worried about, you know." He mumbles.
"You were worried what we would think. Man, what is wrong with you?" Jeff laughs. "Eddie Munson isn't supposed to care what people think, even your loser friends."
'Besides, if you say he's good, we trust you, okay?" Gareth adds. "But I do have a couple of questions."
Eddie can't help but smile at his friends, even though his stomach still hurts thinking about the look on Steve’s face from a few minutes prior. But he indulges Gareth. "Ask away, I guess I owe you guys."
"Does he treat you alright?" Gareth asks simply.
Eddie nods softly. "He treats me better than anyone I've ever been with. He's always so soft and gentle with me. I swear, he looks at me like I'm something special, and I don't know why. Sometimes I don't think I deserve it."
"Do you love him?" Gareth follows up.
"God, more than anything." Eddie says with out hesitatation.
"And do you think he loves you?" He asks simply.
"I know he loves me. He tells me ever day." And not just with his words, but with his actions too. Steve shows Eddie he loves him every day with all the little things does for him.
"Then why are you still sitting down here, dude?" Gareth asks. "You better go and fix this before you lose him." He says it likes its the most obvious thing in the world.
Eddie hurriedly nods. Gareth is right. He has to talk to Steve, like now. He practically jumps up from the table, nearly tripping as does.
As he runs past his friends and up the steps, he looks at the cupcakes Steve had sat down on the small table by the steps. They looked homemade, a little messy but perfect. Steve had piped little silly hearts on them all, and in the center were little frosting dice. He can't help the way it makes his heart skip a beat. Steve was ridiculously romantic, and Eddie loves that.
He continues up the steps, two at a time, hoping Steve and the kids are up there, but they aren't. He frantically makes his way to door, only to see them sitting in Steve’s car through the window, still in the driveway. He's relieved.
As soon as he opens the door, all their eyes shoot up. He can see the look on Steve’s face, obviously trying to hold back tears. Even now, Steve is trying to be strong with the kids. Their eyes though looked like they could kill Eddie, even Dustin. He fucked up badly.
He nervously makes his way over to Steve's open window. When he gets there, Steve doesn't say a word, doesn't even look at him, just stares forward. Eddie tries anyway. "Stevie, can we talk...please? Alone?" He looks at the other 4 in the car.
Steve squeezes the wheel harder. He knows if he talks, he will start crying. And he doesn't want to do that in front of Eddie. Fuck, this hurts so bad. It felt like when Nancy called him and his love bullshit all over again. He is bullshit...he is nothing. Just a washed up ex jock, who is just there when people need him. He doesn't get the happy ending, the true love.
Dustin speaks up "You're an asshole, man. Go away." Not even Mike speaks up to defend him. Who does though, surprises him.
"He's not...." Steve whispers, unable to speak any louder. Steve can't see it, but Eddie sees all the looks of pitty shot at him. Eddie knows Steve shouldn't be defending him, but he is.
"No, Stevie. I am. I am an asshole. And I'm so sorry. Please can we talk?" Eddie begs.
Steve lets out a sigh before turning to the "kids." "Go on. It's fine. Go and clean up your shit so Mrs. Wheeler isn't mad." He tries to say in a straight voice.
They reluctantly get out but still shoot Eddie dirty glances as they head in. Eddie nervously walks to the passenger side and gets in.
"What do you want to talk about?" Steve chokes out, still not looking at him.
"What I said in there wasn't the truth. Steve, baby...I am so sorry. I did not mean it..." He tries pathetically.
Steve's hands are shaking as they stay rested on the steering wheel. He finally turns his head to look at Eddie. "Then why did you say it, Eddie? If you didn't mean it, why did you say it?!" His voices cracks, as a little tear escapes, running down his cheek.
All Eddie wants to do is reach over and wipe it away, but he thinks better of it. "Because I'm an idiot, sweetheart." He replies softly. "I shouldn't have hidden us, but today everyone was ganging up on me, and I got overwhelmed...and it just came out. You are not nothing, baby."
"Come on, Eddie! There had to be some truth to it, or it wouldn't have come out. I am not an idiot." Steve says in his bitchiest voice, his wall going up, trying to protect himself from more hurt.
It feels like a punch to his gut. Eddie really made Steve believe their could be some truth in his words. "Steve....I promise you, I was just being some vain asshole, too worried about my reputation as a cool metalhead." He says, knowing how lame it sounds to say out loud. "How could I, Eddie "the freak" Munson, possibly have ended up with the prettiest boy in school."
"What you said was fucked up, you know..." another tear escaping, but the punch is gone from his words.
"I know...I know. I am so sorry, princess. I'll do anything to make it up to you." Eddie pleads softly.
Steve gives him a sad smile, anger melting away leaving only hurt. "I'm just having a hard time believing that I'm not nothing...I mean, you didn't want to tell your friends. And like, I know I can be a little much sometimes, and overbearing. And I'm sorry if I embarrassed you...."He whispers. He feels like nothing, like bullshit, like trash. He isn't endgame, he's never anyone's endgame.
Hearing Steve Harrington apologize for being embarrassing makes Eddie feel like he is in some alternate dimension, maybe he never left the upside down. But more concerningly, to hear Steve sound so small, broke him. Steve was the bravest, sweetest, bitchiest, protective, hottest person he knew but right now, Steve felt small. And it destroyed him to know he caused this. He caused Steve to feel unimportant...unloved. and he had promised himself that he would never do that to him.
He reaches over and grabs Steve's hand, squeezing softly. "God, baby, you have nothing to be sorry for. I am the one who was so self centered, that I did the worst thing I have ever done. I hurt you." He moves his other hand to Steve's cheek, and to his relief, Steve leans into, doesn't pull away. "I somehow made the person who is everything to me, feel like nothing. And that just won't do."
"Eds..." Steve whispers.
"Stevie, I promise you, I will spend everyday trying to make it up to you."
"You...you don't have to...." Steve says softly, sadly.
"Yea, I do. Because Steve, you are everything. You are it for me, sweetheart. There is not a single day I will let go by without you knowing that. I will never let anyone, including myself, make you feel like you are nothing." Eddie leans closer, resting his forehead against Steve's.
By this point, tears were freely falling down Steve’s face. But now he's smiling, even laughing a little. "You are such a sap, Eddie." He jokes before leaning in and placing a tiny kiss against Eddie's lips. "And I love you so much."
Eddie feels a million times lighter as he keeps holding Steve. "I love you too, baby. And you are everything...you are everything....you are everything. " He repeats as I to make sure Steve understands how true it is, not leaving any room for doubt in Steve’s head.
Thank you for reading again! Also side note, did not want to drag this out but definitely see the others eating all the cupcakes downstairs, leaving only one and Steve and Eddie share it.

Girlfriend?
Pairing: Eddie Munson x Reader
Summary: The gang finds out Eddie has a girlfriend after he almost dies in the upside down and you come in and fix everything. A shameless fix it fic
Word Count: 1891
Tumblr media
“You’re gonna have to look after those little sheep for me okay?”
“No you’re gonna do that yourself!” Dustin cries as he looks down at the man he looked up to laying in his arms.
“Tell me you’ll look after them.”
“I’m gonna look after them.” He can barely get the words out. “But you’re gonna be right there with me, you hear me.”
“Listen I need you to tell my girlfriend I love her, she needs to know that I was still thinking about her in the end.” Dustin can barely register the sentence going into even more shock when he brings up having a girlfriend.
“Your girlfriend?” The thought of Eddie having someone back home gives Dustin a newfound strength as he stands up and carries most of Eddie's weight on his shoulder he propped his friend on. “You’re getting through this, and you’re going to tell her yourself.”
“Even if I make it to the trailer you’ll never be able to get me through the portal. Just promise me you’ll tell her, I’m sure she’s on her way back after the voicemail I left her.” He lets out a chuckle, regardless of how much pain he’s in, at how he’s imagining you leaving your grandma's house in a huff. You were always so adorable when you were angry.
Steve, Nancy, and Robin meet Dustin at Eddie’s trailer and start freaking out immediately at the state Eddie’s in. He can barely pay attention to them slowly feeling his world go dark and fear starts to grip him tightly. He doesn’t even notice when Dustin hands him off to Steve before getting something to climb back in with. He only snaps back into it when Steve slaps him across the face to wake him up.
“What the hell man!”
“Good, you're still alive. I’m sending him through!” Steve yells to Robin and Nancy through the portal before starting to lift Eddie up. “You’re heavier than you look Munson.” The girls try to catch him but he still falls onto the mattress and groans in pain.
“Shit, careful I’m delicate.”
“This assholes definitely going to be fine.” Steve helps Nancy start to get Eddie’s jacket off once he’s through and looks at Robin and Dustin. “Go get washcloths and some cold water so we can try to keep him awake while we clean him up.”
The cold water and alcohol they pour into his bites helps to bring him away from the brink of death. It’s not too long before he’s able to stand on his own while the others clean his wounds better than just dumping stuff in them. Nancy acts as everyone's nurse as she switches between Eddie and Steve and Dustin while Robin stays by Eddie’s side to make sure he doesn’t start fading on them again.
When the door to his trailer slams open everyone's attention goes to it. They’re expecting it to be the cops or some of Jason's friends so they’re shocked when a fuming girl storms in.
“Edward Joseph Munson! What the fuck is going on?!” You freeze when you take in the scene in front of you. Your eyes widen at the injured teens spread out around the living room before locking eyes with Eddie. Yours softening as you see the state that he’s in. “Eddie? Baby what happened to you?” You're breathless as you take in his still slightly bloody torso and the wound on his neck.
“Sweetheart, what are you doing here?”
“What am I doing here?!” Your anger comes back and you start to make your way towards him. “Did you think you could leave me a message like that and I wouldn’t drive all the way home?”
“I’m sorry, who are you?” Nancy steps in your way to prevent you from getting any closer to Eddie. That just infuriates you more, what’s this girl think she’s doing preventing you from getting to your boyfriend.
“I’m Eddie’s girlfriend. Who are you?” Her eyes go wide and her mouth opens and closes as she tries to find words.
“Girlfriend?” Steve and Robin speak at the same time and look at eachother with wide eyes. Meanwhile you just push past the girl in front of you.
“Jesus christ Eds you’re gonna need stitches.” You inspect the wounds on his sides, hands tentatively touching his skin. “You still have that sewing kit I left here?” He nods still shocked that you’re here when just moments ago he thought he’d never see you again. When you go to grab it from his room Dustin smiles and looks at Eddie.
“I like her.”
“Yeah me too.” Eddie can’t help but smile when he sees you coming back from his room already starting to rummage through the bag.
“What are you smiling at?”
“You.”
“Did they already clean these?” You roll your eyes and ignore his response as you pull a chair out and sit next to him. Eddie nods down at you watching as you start to thread your needle.
“Woah what are you doing?” Robin asks, rushing closer to the two of you.
“Stitching up my boyfriend, what does it look like?” Eddie flinches as you start your work. “Don’t worry I’ve cleaned him up enough after bar fights to know what I’m doing.”
“She’s gonna be my own personal nurse once she’s done with school.” The way he stares down at you with lovestruck eyes leaves everyone silent again.
“Hi, I’m Dustin.” He limps over to sit next to you and extends his hand.
“Hi Dustin, I’m Y/n. I’d shake your hand if I wasn’t preoccupied.” You glance at him out of the corner of your eye.
“Right, right.”
“It’s nice to meet you though, Eddie’s told me a lot about you. Says you’re like the little brother he never had.”
You and Dustin fall into comfortable conversation while you work, the others observing and trying to get a hold of Lucas, Max, or Erica. You tell Dustin about how you were in school with Eddie and you started dating sophomore year after you asked him to teach you how to play DnD so you could play with your cousins. You had never joined Hellfire club but you would constantly sit in on their campaigns. You tell him about how he was supposed to graduate with you originally and how he failed the next year because he spent too much time visiting you instead of going to school. And then Dustin told you about how he met Eddie and all the fun times they’ve had before explaining what’s been going on and why Eddie’s so injured.
“Yeah, that explains why doofus here left me a message telling me how much he loves me and that if he doesn’t make it to take good care of his baby.”
“You have a kid?”
“God no, he meant his guitar.”
“Baby you should’ve seen me in there, I put on the most metal show of my life! Finally got to play Master of Puppets.”
“Did you finally perfect it?” You can’t hide your excitement about it and he nods at you. “You’ll have to play it for me when you’re all healed up.” With that you finish closing up his other wound and back up from him.
“You’re not gonna kiss them better Sweetheart?”
“I’m still mad at you Edward, you had me scared half to death.”
“Edward?” Steve snickers after hearing Eddie's full name for the first time, not having been paying attention when you yelled it earlier.
“Shut it Harrington.”
“Who are you guys again?” You turn to face the three young adults across the room from you.
“I’m Robin. This is Nancy and Steve, we're sorta friends with Eddie, mainly Dustins though.”
“Well thank you guys for taking care of him, sorry I was so rude when I first got here. I was just worried about him.”
“It’s cool.” It’s then that Lucas and Erica burst into the trailer.
“Jesus Sinclair what happened to you?”
“Max is in the hospital, they don’t know if she’s gonna make it, we need to go.” Lucas says in a rush the same time Erica answers ‘Jason.’ As everyone piles into Steve's car you hang back with Eddie and Dustin pauses and glances between the others and you guys.
“Hey, what do we do about Eddie?”
“I have an idea about that actually. Do you guys think you could drop us off wherever he stashed his van?”
They don’t see or hear from either of you for two days. After getting dropped off at the van you rushed him into it before hopping in the driver's seat and heading to your grandmas so he could shower and get some clean clothes on before resting while you figure out exactly how to go about your plan. Once eddie was rested enough up you’d drive back to Hawkins with him and tell the police a lie about how he’s been helping you take care of your ill grandma so he hasn’t even been in town to commit these murders. You’d then bring up how Jason never liked him and he knew most of the victims so it made sense for him to be the real murderer and to frame Eddie. You had only been in contact once with Dustin with him telling you that Jason died during the ‘earthquake’ and that he had attacked Lucas. So that could help play into your plan, you asked him if Lucas would be alright with hinting that Jason was the one to attack Max and haven’t spoken to him since.
“Hey, don’t be nervous, it's all going to work out okay?” You grab one of Eddie's hands as he drives into Hawkins. You could tell he was getting lost in his head.
“What if they just bring you down with me?”
“They won’t, you have an airtight alibi now so you aren’t even going down. My grandma said she’d even vouch for you being there if they need to ask her because she loves you and knows you could never do something like that.” You kiss his cheek when he pulls into the police station parking lot. “Just relax Eddie bear. Let me make it all better.”
“Eddie!” Dustin yelled running towards him when he spots the two of you in the school's gym.
“Careful Henderson, I’m still injured.” He holds Dustin back when he goes to hug him.
“Did it work?” The younger kid looks over at you with curious eyes.
“Like a charm. Really we have Lucas to thank for that though, if he wouldn’t have been on board with the whole lying to the cops thing I don’t know if they ever would’ve eaten up the whole Jason theory the way they did. There should be a report about it on the news soon.”
“Eddie? Y/n?” Wayne drops his bag when he spots his nephew. “Thank God you’re okay.” He tears up as he pulls Eddie into a hug and you let go of his hand so he can properly hold him back knowing that he’s going to get emotional too. When the two of them part, Wayne looks over at you. “C’mere.” He pulls you into a hug too before whispering in your ear. “Thank you for taking care of my boy.”
“I always will, you know that.”

One Slow Blink Part 2
Second part right here due to Tumblr restrictions
Description: As a nurse, you want to help people, as many as you can. But, with the insane things that have been going on in Hawkins, and the crazed look in Dustin's eyes when he stumbles into the ER covered in blood with an impossible tale to tell, it makes you wonder; how much are you prepared to give?
Warnings: NSFW, Minors DNI, *Here there be monsters! Honestly, there's straight up monster fucking in this so if you're not into that do not read*, AFAB sub nurse reader x dom monster Eddie, kinda Alpha/Omega without them knowing it, injury descriptions, S4 does happen and Eddie lives but he be a monster, hand job, fem oral receiving, male oral receiving, consensual predator/prey dynamic, fingering, very rough sex, biting/marking, unprotected p in v, knotting.
A/N: This has come from yet another deranged dream of mine. I imagine Eddie looking kinda like a mix between the Beast from the original Beauty and the Beast, and the dog/kangaroo guys from Tank Girl, but with a longer snout. If you don't know, that's a dirty mix between a lion, a bear, a wolf and maybe a little of Venom's tongue (because I am a whore.)
22k words for both parts, I know, mental, but it's worth it ;)
Masterlist Part 1
You must have fallen asleep like that, as once your eyes open it looks to be almost night, the sun dipping past the horizon. The light slipping past your makeshift curtain is a deep red. You ache all over, especially your shoulder, but it doesn't stop you from smiling.
At some point he must have pulled you on top of him, both arms circling you possessively, holding you to his chest like a child's doll. His member has slipped out of you; you can feel the stickiness of his release coating the sensitive flesh of your inner thighs.
Breathing changes as he stirs beneath you, opening his eyes in a squint.
“Hey you.”
He murmurs a soft sound from his chest, licking your cheek with his long tongue.
“Ew! Eddie, you've got dog breath.”
“Charrrming.”
You laugh, hitting his chest playfully, shifting above him so you're straddling him.
“We better get cleaned up, I've got to get to the hospital in a few hours.”
Eddie whines, grabbing your hips as you try to stand, pushing your wet heat against his twitching bulge.
“Eddie…”
You breathe out in a warning, but it sounds too needy. He's not listening, rubbing you back and forth over his swelling length.
“Eddie I don't think I can take another round, you were- oh fuck-”
The sentence falters as he catches your clit, setting a thousand butterflies loose in your tummy.
“I’ll… be gentle.”
You hiccup a little laugh, staring down at him with a raised brow.
“I don't think you can.”
“Forrr you… I can.”
You reach out to stroke his fuzzy cheek and he nuzzles into the touch. The affection he shows from that simple gesture has you relenting, guiding his member into you, slipping in easily, his previous sticky release helping its journey.
Sitting back and allowing yourself to revel in the beautiful stretch, you experience that familiar wash of relief, a calm caressing your very soul. Eddie seems to feel it too, letting out a long breath as his shoulders lose tension.
“This feels right,” you confess, hand running down his chest, “like, like-”
His gravelly purr interrupts your spill words, reverberating through your ribcage.
“Like you… werrre made forrr me, sweet-hearrrt.”
It's much slower this time, more of a languid grinding as you both move against each other, that undercurrent of need more of a smouldering heat, rather than the unquenchable fire from earlier. Eddie pants as he watches you, tongue hanging from the side of his mouth as you reach your precipice, your eyebrows knotting and body shuddering around him.
Falling against his form, entirely spent, skin glowing with sweat, you hold onto him as he chases his own release. True to his word, he's much more gentle, gripping your hips and moving you to meet his shallow thrusts. You see his snout scrunch when he's on the brink, just before he pulls you off of him and holds you to his torso. You can feel his cock pumping out his orgasm against your stomach, glueing the pair of you together.
“Eddie, you didn't need to-”
“Last time we werrre… stuck togetherrr, for half hourrr.”
You giggle, astonished at his words.
“Really? Damn, I must have fell asleep.”
“You did. Couldn't move. Was… nice.”
Reaching up to play with the fur on his cheek, you think about what he just said.
“You know, I think that's knotting. You know, like d-”
“If you say… dogs…” He warns, winding a finger in your hair and tugging gently.
“Fine. Canines.”
He grabs you, holding you in place as he slathers your face with his tongue, drooling all over you.
“Eddie! Yuck, stop, stop!”
“Thought I was… dog. This is what dogs do… rrrright?”
You squeal loudly trying to extricate yourself from his hold.
“OK, OK! You're not a dog! Stop!”
He finally relents and you get up, unpeeling from the sticky skin and matted fur of his stomach.
“Right, I'm gonna have a shower before you start humping my leg.”
He snaps his teeth at you playfully as you leave. When you're standing in front of the bathroom mirror, you see why your shoulder hurts so much. There's teeth marks in it; pinpricks of broken skin tinged with blood. They aren't deep, but the redness around them looks like it's going to leave a hell of a bruise. For some reason, you're not mad. The opposite in fact. It feels like a claim. You are his, and this is so the world can see.
Once you're clean and relatively dry, you go into the living area to find some food, throwing on one of Eddie's new t-shirts. It may as well be a dress, the hem kissing your mid thigh.
Something doesn't feel right though. Suddenly there's a rolling in the pit of your stomach, a sense of impending doom. The light streaming through the partially boarded windows is still an ominous red. Risking a look, you peer out of the slats and see the sky.
It's flashing red and blue, as if there's an enormous thunderstorm boiling the heavens, but there's no sound. It looks unnatural, colouring the landscape around in the same foreboding hues. You feel hot, and sick.
Eddie barrels into the room with a towel still around his waist, tackling you to the ground.
“Eddie, whats-”
“Stay low… some-thing coming… smells wrrrong.”
You whisper as quietly as you can.
“What can you smell?”
He takes a moment, snuffling at the air with his eyes closed.
“Outside… woods, dirrrt. Frrriends, coming. And… can't ex-plain in worrrds. Sticky… chem-i-cal… pulsing… grrey blue. Wrrrong.”
You suppose that's what you get for asking a question about something you can't possibly understand, what with the stark differences in your senses. You try a different tact.
“Have you… smelled it before?”
“Differrrent… but, similarrrr… to up-side-down.”
There's the shoe that you were waiting to drop. Now the feeling in your gut made sense.
“Eddie, you said… friends were coming?”
“Harrrrrington… and Henderrrrson forrr surrre… smell the damn hairrsprrray.”
In spite of the situation, you giggle. He flashes his teeth, dropping his guard for just an instant.
There's a powerful knock at the door that makes you jump. Eddie leaps up and flings it open with such force that it slams into the wooden wall sending dust flying.
You just about make out the figure of a girl with a shaved head and a bloody nose who thrusts an outstretched hand toward Eddie. Dustin's voice rings out behind her.
“Elle no!”
There's a strange force, like a gust of wind with no air that buffets around Eddie's snarling form. You feel it pulling you, ripping you backwards as you roll across the floorboards. Eddie seems unaffected, not moving from his spot.
“Eleven, stop! You think monsters wear pink towels??”
The girl looks baffled and turns to where Dustin is running forward, waving his arms wildly. Steve is following quickly behind. They both look battered and bruised. As Steve comes into focus you see his entire front is covered in blood.
Instincts kicking in, you shoulder past Eddie and run toward him.
“Steve, what happened!”
“It's alright it's not my blood. Eleven, this is Eddie.”
Ah, Eleven. It makes more sense now. The powers, the shaved head.
“Who- is she?”
Eleven stares at you with a confused expression. You introduce yourself, and explain what you think you are.
“...I'm, er, Eddie's girlfriend.”
Eleven's eyes widen but she doesn't say anything. Dustin, however, can't possibly stop the words spilling from his mouth.
“Girlfriend?? Seriously? But-”
“Henderson, focus! That's not important right now!”
“I was just asking, Steve!”
“Well don't we have other stuff we need to-”
“Hey!”
Shocked, you realise the shout came from you.
“Everyone, just calm down and get inside so we can talk, OK?”
Your words seem to cut through all arguments as everybody makes it inside, standing and looking at you for direction. Attempting to keep the authoritative air you've managed to concoct, you order them to sit down whilst you and Eddie get dressed.
When you're no longer feeling so exposed, you come back into the living room holding Eddie's hand.
“Right now, Steve, you first. What the fucks going on?”
He weirdly looks at Eleven first, who gives a curt nod.
“Right, right, so, it's a little-”
Dustin cuts in.
“-Vecna's back from the Upside Down with his Demogorgons and bats and stuff and they're taking over Hawkins and we need Eddie Dog to help defeat him!”
Stumbling back a little stunned, your wide eyes search his vainly for the sign of some prank. There is none.
“So… you're saying there's monsters in Hawkins??”
Steve responds calmly, juxtaposing Dustin’s trembling form.
“ ‘fraid so. Nance and Hopper and everyone else are holed up in the library. Everyone left in the town’s there. Well, everyone who's not dead or ran away.”
“Wait, so Hopper’s alive??”
“Yes! He was captured by evil Russians but Mrs Byers got him back and-”
“Alright, alright,” you hold your palms up to Dustin, “what does Eddie have to do with this?”
“Listen, Henderson's got this theory that Eddie's… powers… came out so he can stop Vecna.”
“But that's absurd, he was bitten!” You turn to Eddie but he looks just as shocked as you.
“Yeah but, we've seen a lot of people today who've been bitten by something. No one else changed.”
“Exactly,” Dustin says, grinning, “Eddie's got super strength now, he's all healed, I bet he's got other powers.”
Eleven starts talking unexpectedly.
“I tried to throw him. He did not move.”
“See!? He's a superhero.”
“So, wait, Eleven can't throw him,” you begin, “but that doesn't mean she can't throw stuff at him. What's to stop Vecna throwing a car or something?”
Everyone looks at Eleven.
Wordlessly, she focuses on a lamp that sits on a side table. To your astonishment, it begins to float in the air, then hurls itself at Eddie with remarkable force. Then the strangest thing happens. It hovers a few inches from Eddie as if stopped by an invisible barrier, then falls to the floor uselessly.
Silence. You break it, voice splitting as it goes high pitched with worry.
“Right, but that doesn't mean Vecna can't hurt him, just because Eleven can't, right? Right??”
Eddie's the one to respond, holding your hands in one bearish paw.
“Sweet-hearrrt, they'rrre rrright… I can help… I should help… need to prrotect the Shirrre… prrrotect you.”
“But-but-” Tears well in your eyes as you stare back at him.
“I need to… otherrrrwise… I am… this… is all a waste.”
You nod, but pull your hands from his and walk into the bedroom, shutting the door behind you. The pain is too much to bear. It does make sense, if you were being rational, but right now you aren't rational. Nothing about this is rational. You've just found the love of your life and you might lose him to this stupid fight.
Fuck. You love him.
It's finally clear. The feeling in your stomach, the draw you have toward him, the fire in your veins, in your heart. You barely know him, but you love him.
And now that might get ripped away because of some damn fight that shouldn't have had anything to do with him in the first place.
You perch on the bed, head in your hands as tears leak down your cheeks. There's no fight in you to stop them, grieving for something that hasn't happened yet but seems inevitable. There's whispering in the other room, plans being made, but it all sounds like it's underwater, drowned by the power of your tears.
After a while, Eddie opens the door and shuffles in the room, sitting down on the bed next to you. He slowly starts to explain the plan to you, how Will can sense when Vecna or the monsters are near, how Elle will help clear a path, how he has the strength to defeat him, since Vecna's powers are all he has. He doesn't have the speed or strength that Eddie does.
There's a loaded quiet when he's finished. You're angry, wiping away stray tears fiercely from your face, but you're not angry at him. You're angry at the situation, at Vecna, at the Upside Down. Angry at the powers that seem to be pulling you apart.
“Fine. But I'm coming with you.”
“No,” he snarls, pulling his arm around you, “they need… heal-ers. You… can help.”
“But what if- what if you get hurt?”
“Won't.”
“Promise?”
Staring up whilst you are brimming with tears, he cups your face, looking back at you with soulful eyes.
“I'll do… everrry-thing I can.”
“No!” You shout, tears falling once again as your face heats up, “you can't say that, they say that in the hospital and people die!”
Wringing your hands, flipping them over and over each other in your lap, you barely notice Eddie falling to the floor in front of you.
Then his burly arms are circling you, his maw pushed into your abdomen, inhaling you deeply, sweetly. It stops your incessant fidgeting, fingers resting in his long locks. They wind into his hair, twisting through to massage his scalp as he purrs into the flesh of your stomach.
“Eddie, if you love me you'll come back to me. Do-do you love me, Eddie?”
He looks up at you, deep chestnut eyes searching your face.
One slow blink.
There's a soft knock at the door and Dustin opens it.
“We have to go soon. Are you ready Eddie Dog?”
Eddie growls low in his throat, swivelling to face him on all fours, hackles raised. Dustin immediately attempts to backtrack, arm raised to try and protect his face.
“I mean, I didn't mean- it's from the demogorgon, you know, demodogs, Eddie Dog, I did think DemoEddie but Dog-”
Eddie pounces, pinning Dustin to the ground. Dustin's eyes scrunch shut as he screams, voice breaking in terror.
“Shit shit shiiiiiiiiiit!!!”
You giggle inanely as Eddie licks Dustin's face wetly. He bounds off him and shoots a wink at you, before lending Dustin a hand and dragging him to his feet.
“I am not… a dog.”
Dustin is laughing in relief, nerves racking through it.
“No you're not, I'm sorry I'm sorry-”
Steve appears in the doorway.
“Guys, get in here.”
All mockery forgotten, you make your way into the living space in silence.
“Steve, what's going on?”
“That's just it. Listen.”
You all stop, ears working in overdrive as you all try to hear what he hears. Breaking the quiet spell that had drifted over everyone, you speak.
“I can't hear anything.”
“Exactly. Don't you get it? All over town, all through the woods, there's been these things. Demogorgons, bats, horrible things. But here, there's nothing.”
“Eddie, you smell anything?”
Eddie closes his eyes, snout wiggling in effort as he opens his preternatural senses. His voice rumbles out in its usual gravelly purr.
“That scent… it's herrre, it's on them… up-side-down smell… therrres nothing close by… except a few deerrr.”
Steve holds a hand up, stage whispering to you.
“He can smell that?”
“Yes… and hearrr acrrross rrrooms.”
“Sorry big guy, I just- that's awesome.”
Dustin is beaming, staring at Eddie like he's a superhero. Steve continues, making sure he's looking at Eddie, you notice, keeping him in the conversation.
“So, if those things aren't nearby… maybe, maybe they're afraid of him? Hate to say it but I'm starting to agree with Dustin. Maybe you're supposed to be like this Munson.”
Sighing in acceptance, you turn to Eddie.
“Fine. If you think you can help you should go. Don't let me stop you. But you have to come back to me.”
He gives you a slow blink, and you nod, accepting fate. Then you move into action, grabbing the partially used trauma kit, along with anything else you think might be helpful. Everyone else is doing the same, as if they were waiting for your approval.
Pretty soon you're being bundled into what appears to be a stolen pick up truck with Eddie sitting in the back, as you race back into town.
If you could call it town anymore.
Your mind rolls to every post apocalyptic movie you've ever seen, but none of them compare to it happening in front of your eyes. Crumbling buildings that you recognise send spears of hurt through your heart. Over there, the gas station where you bought your first underage beers, now a smoking wreckage. On your left, the drug store where you used to pick up your mom's prescription, cracked and half buried in rubble.
A cloud of chattering sound passes quickly overhead; you hear Eddie growling low as batlike creatures wing their way to another destination, seemingly unbothered by your presence. It's either that, or they don't want to tangle with your boyfriend. You pray that it's the latter.
Steve takes a sharp left turn and you fling to the side in your seat.
“I thought we were heading to the library, isn't it that way?”
“Yep, if you wanna cross a gorge. The roads opened so wide that nothing can get through.”
The enormity of the situation is sinking into you, winding around your spine, fear clasping you in its unwanted clutches.
Ignore it. Don't recognise it. Turn your back on it. There's people that need your help.
Steve pulls up a few yards away from the library, and you clench your jaw, telling your tears to fuck right off. Now is not the time for tears.
You and Dustin jump out of the truck, and he rushes to the library to bring everyone who needs to be part of this final stand. A final stand that doesn't involve you. A final stand that has the love of your life sitting front and centre.
Running around to the back of the truck you grab Eddie's head firmly in both your hands.
“You- you remember what I said? You need to come back to me, you hear me? ‘Cause if you don't I'll kill you myself. Get it Eddie? You do this and you come back to me!!”
Eddie holds your hands in his enormous paws, enveloping your soft flesh instantly. Nuzzling his snout against your cheek, he breathes in your ear.
“I'll come back… to what's mmine.”
You press fierce hot kisses to the soft fur of his face, over and over, until he pulls you from him, holding your hands away.
“You love me Eddie. I know you do.”
One slow blink.
In an instant, he's gone, quieter than snow. Falling to the floor, you hold your head in your hands, crushed by the barbarity of the situation.
You didn't say it. You didn't tell him you love him too. Saying it out loud would make it more real. Saying it out loud would make the pain worse if you lose him.
Soft fingers pry at you, leading you onward, inside. In a daze you follow, feet on autopilot as you clutch the trauma bag in front of you like a shield.
Inside is a bustle of activity, a hive of ants that all have a purpose and none of them involve you. You're guided gently down onto a seat and the insects run about, fetching food, water, bandages. It all seems to be happening outside of you, following a rhythm that you can't hear.
“Hey, hey!” One of the swarm seems to be addressing you. Tilting your head, you look towards them. It's an older woman; half her face is concealed by a makeshift eyepatch.
“You're a doctor, right? We need someone over here now!”
Instincts take over. Legs rising of their own accord, they march over to a camp bed that's been set up. Another woman lays there, breaths shallow and humanising. There's an enormous gash in her side.
“OK OK, I can help, just don't move too much, I'll try and stop the bleeding.”
Then the next person. And then, the next person.
Mind floating into a subconscious haze, your memories take over. That situation before at the hospital, the textbook you once studied, a hypothetical conversation with a doctor. You take it, all at once, power beyond what should be possible, but you do it.
You do it for him.
Minutes pass into hours unseen as you tear through every available useful item, every strip of gauze from your bag, until it happens.
A pain so profound that grips your shoulder and your heart hard enough for you to look around for the shotgun. It emanates out of the bitemark, pulsing into your veins with alarming force.
“He's hurt.”
Collapsing to the side, you hold a firm hand to your own heart, as if you could will it to slow. Legs give out from under you, your rear landing on the hard surface behind. For a minute you sit, unable to move, unable to think, wondering why everyone around seems so controlled. Don't they realise your entire universe is shattering into splinters before their very eyes?
There's a hand shaking you by the arm, someone asking if you're OK. They lift you, place you in a seat, and keep asking, and asking. Your tongue feels heavy, unable to form words to explain the hurt you're feeling. This deep hurt is rooted into your bone marrow; heavy, hard and cold.
There's a familiar face in front of you, a round childish face with curling boyish locks and a worried expression. Dustin.
“Hey, you there? Can ya hear me?”
Nodding wordlessly, you point to your chest, directly over your heart, eyes wincing in pain.
“Did you get hurt?”
You shake your head, and manage one word.
“Eddie.”
Before Dustin can respond, Nancy runs in, face covered in grime and dark blood, panting for breath.
“They… did it… Hoppers here with Eleven. The gates are closed. But, Eddie-”
Hearing his name you rush back into your body.
“Where is he?”
“Steve and Jonathan are taking him back to the cabin. He's unconscious. He’s… in a bad way, but he's alive.”
He's alive.
“I need to get to him. Dustin, grab any bandages you can find. Nancy, you got a car?”
She nods and leads you outside. The sky has quietened, no longer flashing in supernatural colours. Looking upward, you  can almost believe this is a normal night in Hawkins. Taking in the streets, the truth is far from it.
Three monstrous things lay on the sidewalk, covered in some slimy substance and splattered in unnatural blood. Their skin has a blue grey sheen to it, and their limbs are twisted awkwardly. Their heads seem to have been split open, but then you realise it's just one gigantic mouth, unfurling like a gristly lily. The fleshy petals are lined with dozens of tiny sharp teeth.
You press a toe to one of them nervously. Its head lulls to one side, utterly lifeless.
“Hey I got the band- Holy shit!!”
Dustin's voice cracks mid sentence, then he sighs in relief when he realises the monsters are dead. Nancy calls at you both to hurry and you bundle into the car as she races through the cracked, ruined streets of Hawkins.
The gas station, the shops, town hall, it's all unimportant. What matters is getting to Eddie. You need to save him.
Suddenly a heavy feeling in your chest lifts, but not in comfort. It's as if someone's tugged a weighted blanket off of you, exposing your vulnerability for the world to see. Eddie's presence, once a firm hold coddling your heart, is reduced to a whisper of a thought. Gossamer threads tie you instead of lead ropes that you hadn't even realised were there until they were nearly gone.
“Nancy, we need to hurry, he's almost gone!”
She doesn't question how you know, just presses her foot to the accelerator and bombs through Hawkins and onto the familiar country road. She gets as near as the woods will allow, until you're yanking the door open and continuing on shaky legs, feet pounding at the bracken and tears streaming from the corners of your eyes.
A singular thought races through your mind with each footfall. Save him. Save him. Like a heartbeat.
The cabin starts to appear out of the darkness, the lights inside a beacon of hope. As you reach the front door it flies open, Steve standing in the frame.
His hair is sticking out in every direction; part of it is plastered to his forehead with blood. A bat with nails in it is hanging limply at his side and his clothes are torn. There's gashes in his front, as if gigantic claws had swiped at him. Previously you would have stopped, gaping at his wounds in horror and done anything you could to help, but after everything you've seen tonight they seem almost trivial.
“Is he here?”
Steve takes a deep breath in, swinging the bat at his side as if on instinct.
“He's here, I guess. He was awesome, then- he wasn't him, in the end. He's not said a word after Vecna, then when Mrs- well, he passed out. Just, be careful.”
You nod and shoulder your way through, past a long haired guy with the intense expression who you assume is Jonathan, and into the bedroom.
It's a familiar scene, so much so that it borders on comfort. He's strapped down to the bed, a belt wrapped around his feral maw. His breaths are shallow and wet sounding. A snarling whistle of a snore escapes on each exhale.
His wounds are deep, much deeper than before. There's blood pooling at his side from a gaping wound, it looks like one of those bastard monsters took a bite out of him. That seems the worst damage, that and a bite on his shoulder that almost mirrors your own. You'd laugh at the irony if you weren't so upset. On top of that, there are so many scrapes and claw marks and bruises that it makes your heart ache.
“One of you, come in here and help me.”
Steve appears in the door frame, bat held high as if Eddie were about to pounce.
“Steve, put the bat down. I need your help cleaning these wounds.”
He lowers his arm and moves nearer to you, but doesn't let the bat go.
“I don't think you get it. When Vecna- when he realised he couldn't hurt him, those demogorgons got him. He fought three of them at once and then he… well, he tore Vecna in half. Since then he's not… he was a beast. Tried to attack me and Hopper, until Mrs Byers whacked him over the head, knocked him out cold. I'm not sure he's Eddie, anymore.”
There's a tug at your heart, a spindly web like thread that pulls you to your love.
“He's weak, but he's there. I know it. Help me clean these wounds and bind them before he bleeds out.”
The two of you work in silence, Steve flinching when Eddie stirs, but he doesn't wake up. When the hole in his side is padded with gauze and tightly bound with bandages, you work on the rest. There's just so many injuries, it's a wonder he's still alive and hasn't bled out yet.
When it's done, with Eddie patched and bandaged as well as you know how, you collapse onto the floor, hands on your knees. All you can do is wait for him to wake up. That's if he wakes up. If he wakes up as him, and not some mindless beast.
“Listen, you've done what you can. You're awesome, really.”
Steve's hand grasps yours on top of your knee.
“If he's gonna come back for anyone, he'll come back for you.”
The smile he flashes melts your heart as he gets up to leave. A second later, he returns with a musty blanket and a worn cushion. You take them gratefully and get comfortable on the floor, hoping against hope that your love wakes up.
********************
A roaring growl shatters through your nerves and startles you awake, rocketing through your senses before you have a chance to think. Hot breath blows across your face, messing your hair and making you blink in its turbulence.
Eddie's on all fours on top of you, crouched low and teeth bared, bindings in tatters all about you. The belt is gone from his jaw; you can only assume he managed to break it with sheer force. A dribble of slobber hangs from his maw; for some reason it's all you can focus on. It wobbles in your vision, as you scramble for some way to get through to him.
He barks roughly, snapping his teeth barely an inch from your face.
“N-now, you listen to me, Eddie!”
Your voice squeaks, belying the stern demeanour you're attempting to convey. He growls low, crouching even further over you, giving you an undeniable urge to flee. You can't, not with Eddie on top of you. Not just that, you know deep within your bones that if you attempt to escape, you're dead.
It suddenly dawns on you that it doesn't matter. You could just throw yourself out there and be eaten. Sure, it'd be painful, but since he's hovering right over your jugular it'd probably be quick. Living without him seems far worse. Or, you might just succeed, and live.
There's no time for hesitation and pleasantries. So, you grasp the fur around his maw and clutch it desperately, fingers winding into his pelt. His eyes widen, jaw closing slightly, and you take the opportunity to pull his head closer. Your forehead sits flush with his, searching his eyes for any sign of the Eddie you know.
“Eddie Munson, you listen to me! You know who I am! Can't you smell it? My smell, your smell? You're mine, and I'm yours. You promised you'd come back to me! So do it, come the fuck back to me or I swear I'll kill you myself!”
Releasing one hand, you pull your t-shirt over your shoulder and show him the mark he left you.
“You see this? You know what this is? Remember, Eddie!”
There's a flicker in his hard gaze, a flash of something that just might be your Eddie. Pressing his snout to the mark, he inhales deeply. Then, he's pressing his jaw to yours, nuzzling your neck with his nose. Moving your head to meet his affection, you rub your faces against each other. The tension in the room dissipates as you finally start to see the human behind the beast.
As he pulls his face away, you stare deep in his eyes.
‘I love you Eddie Munson. I knew you'd come back. You had to, because you love me too. Right?”
One slow blink.
Then, he's falling to the floor on his side, seemingly exhausted with the strain. There's no way you'll be able to get him back into the bed, so you throw your blanket around you both and snuggle into his warm pelt before you fall asleep in his arms.
When you finally wake up, he's still asleep breathing heavily through his nose. The breaths sound much better than before, a stark difference from the heavy, wet sound he was making previously.
Every joint hurts from sleeping on the wooden floor. You stretch in place, click your elbows, and glance back down at Eddie.
Even a few hours seems to have helped Eddie with his recovery. The small grazes you didn't bother to cover up are completely healed; just tiny fine lines of scars are all that's left, like the inking of a delicate pen.
You try to stand up but Eddie's heavy paw is resting on your hip, keeping your back flush to his torso.
“Eddie,” you whisper, half ashamed to disturb him, “I need to move, my back hurts.”
One chestnut eye blinks roughly at you then opens, shrivelling from the light pouring through your ad hoc curtains. He's not said a word yet, a fact that is eating your insides up with worry, but you don't mention it.
He pushes himself off of the floor, managing to stand shakily before flopping to the bed. Even this small movement has him exhausted beyond what should be possible.
“Eddie, do you want me to get you something to eat? You know, to help the healing?”
Those soulful deep eyes bore into you, stretching time for just a moment. Then he blinks deliberately at you, twice.
“No? So, what can I do?”
Wordlessly, he holds his arms out. You crawl into his embrace as he clutches you to his chest tightly, as if he's scared you'll run away. You couldn't though. Not now, not ever.
********************
After a few hours, he's breathing deeply, and you risk moving to the living space. Once you enter you see Steve and Jonathan there. Nancy climbs out of an armchair and makes her way towards the group, diplomatically standing exactly between them.
“We didn't want to disturb. How's he doing?”
Nancy's soft voice breaks the quiet and you allow her a small smile.
“Great. I mean, he's healing like crazy, seems to be something he can do, and he remembers me for sure. He's not spoken yet, but give him time.”
She beams at you, then flashes a thousand watt smile at Steve. Shaking her head slightly, apparently at her own actions, she grabs Jonathan's hand and gives it a squeeze. You don't miss the slight frown that flickers on Steve's face, or the little wanton appraising look he gives Jonathan. It's funny, viewing something from an outsider's perspective. They're the perfect little threesone and they don't seem to even know it.
There's a stirring noise from the bedroom and you run immediately toward it. Eddie's sitting up in bed; it looks like he's trying to inspect the hole in his side with clumsy fingers.
“Hey, it's OK Eddie, don't touch it. I'm gonna look after you, alright?”
A flicker of relief passes across his face and he settles down into the mattress, placated.
You inspect the wound; his recovery is remarkable but there's still a way to go before it's healed. By rights he shouldn't be breathing at all.
“It looks good, it'll take a while to heal completely but I think you're gonna be alright.”
A large hand reaches tentatively to your face and cups it, shaking slightly with the effort. His face scrunches, an internal pain crossing it that seems too much to bear. Then, words emerge.
“...love… you.”
Instantly welling with tears, you cup his hand in your own.
“I love you too Eddie. Now sleep, you need to rest. I'll bring you some water, and some food in a while to get your strength back up.”
He blinks slowly at you, then settles his head back into the mattress, palm dropping from your cheek almost instantly as he falls asleep. You take the cushion from the floor and anchor his head up, slipping it underneath so he doesn't strain his neck.
Staring at him for a moment looking so peaceful makes your eyes well. Wiping furiously at your face, you disperse the tears and turn towards the doorway.
“You alright?”
Steve's standing there, thankfully no longer holding a bat. You nod and walk out of the room with him, after a final glance at Eddie's sleeping form.
********************
Now the danger has passed, the rest of them leave to go get some much needed sleep. The snippets you've been told about the battle for Hawkins sounded bloody and taxing, they all need to recuperate.
When Eddie starts eating you breathe another sigh of relief. It's a good sign. He seems to be having trouble again with picking things up and using words but it's getting better by the hour.
Collecting a bucket from outside, you fill it with warm water and grab some soap and a washcloth from the bathroom, then take it to the bedroom. Eddie's sitting up in bed, having just finished a whole chicken. He's licking juices from his furred fingers when you walk in.
“Hey, that good? Want any more?”
“Good… forrr now.”
You smile at him and waddle over with the heavy bucket. Placing it on the ground with a heavy thud, you soak the cloth and add some soap to it.
“What… doing?”
“Oh, well you've got too many bandages on for me to clean you in the tub, so I thought I'd wash you in here, if that's alright.”
Flashing his teeth in the epitome of a wolfish grin, he purrs out a response as he whips off the blanket covering him.
“Hot nurrrse…. Giving me… sponge bath? Yess please!”
You roll your eyes but you're smiling as you do it, and help him wriggle out of his sweatpants. He's naked, cock already kicking up with your proximity.
“This isn't about that, Eddie!”
“-Orry.”
“And don't just drop your s'es to be cute, I know you can say them!”
He gently grasps your hand in his and you melt just a little.
You start cleaning him as best as you can, tenderly mopping in between the bandages, taking care to remove as much of the crusted blood and grime as possible.
As you work, you feel his furred finger curl under your chin, guiding you to look at him.
“Eddie?”
“You… rrreally carrrre about… mme, don't you?”
Trying to move out of his grip shyly, he holds your chin firmly waiting for your reply.
“I mean, yes, of course. I told you Eddie, I love you.”
Damp fingers twine in his thick burly hand. His eyes are on you but seeing through you, deep in thought. You squeeze his fingers in encouragement.
“What's on your mind, Eddie?”
He huffs a laugh, shaking his head.
“It's stu-pid… I just thought… when it all ended… when gate closed… I'd go back… be norrrmal.”
Emotion floods those brandy hued eyes, you force a lump in your throat to go away.
“Eddie, you've never been normal,” you say, smiling at him, whilst he growls a little chuckle in his throat, “but that's not a bad thing. You're different Eddie. You've always been different. You're odd, and funny, and intense. I love you, and not in spite of those things. Because of them. Because you're you.”
Eddie roughly rubs a hand over his eyes to disguise the tears.
“Love you… what the fuck… did I do… to deserrrve you.”
“Don't know, but it must have been pretty awesome.”
You smile as you finish cleaning him, drying him off as best as you can, and let him get more rest. It seems each time he naps his healing quickens exponentially, so you encouraged as many as you could.
It was late evening by the time you saw him again. You had fallen asleep on the couch in front of the TV, curled up wearing Eddie's black t-shirt and nothing else, with a cushion between your knees for comfort.
There was warm pressure just on the inside of your thigh, a heaviness that for some reason made you feel safe.
Cracking one eye open, you see Eddie is sitting on the floor facing you, his furred cheek resting on your leg. His snout is just breaching the hem of the t-shirt, dangerously close to your heat.
“Eddie, what are you doing?”
He takes a deep breath in and your cheeks flood with embarrassment.
“I miss-ed you… miss-ed this.”
“We can't, like, do anything Eddie, not until you're healed.”
Lifting his head up, he points wordlessly to his side. The bandage has been removed. Amazingly, it's knotted scar tissue; a few tufts of fur are growing on it already. In a few days you'd be surprised if you could even tell the near life threatening blow had even happened.
“Wow, thats- fuck, that's incredible. You're amazing!”
He makes a little satisfied noise at the praise and sits up, towering over you on the sofa.
“So… arrre we good? Forrr… a little game?”
Tilting your head, you mockingly appraise him, looking him up and down and checking each knot of scars.
“Well… seems I can give you the all clear. What did you have in mind?”
Opening his maw, he flicks his tongue over his teeth, and stares at you hungrily.
“I've got… an i-dea.”
He stands up and pulls you to your feet, reminding you again of the sheer size of him, and wordlessly leads you to the back door.
When you're outside, the lack of noise really strikes you. There's not a sound in the woods. An eerie quiet washes over you, making each breath, each heartbeat all the louder. The air is crisp, but not freezing. It nips at your bare legs, trailing goosebumps up your thighs. You look up at the sky; a beautiful array of shining stars fill it, and the moon provides a little light so you can make out the dark shadow of trees about you. It's ethereal and beautiful.
“It's really pretty Eddie, but what's this got to do with a game?”
He stands just behind you, firmly grabbing you by your hips as he bends to speak in your ear.
“We'rrre tied… in ourrr little chases… thought we could…”
“Out here? In the dark? Eddie what if theres-”
“Nothings herrre… animals fled frrrom the monsterrrs… can smell. It's just you… and mme.”
The thought sends a little shiver down your spine, pins and needles rushing from the base of your neck.
“You like the… i-dea. Can tell.”
You curse your own body for betraying you, but he's absolutely right. You're already wet just thinking about it and it's starting to dampen your thighs. A heat floods through you, making you forget about the cold.
“OK… say I'm interested, what are the rules?”
“Two minutes head starrrt… then, when I catch you…” He playfully licks the shell of your ear, “I can do… whateverrr I want.”
“Within reason?” You say, voice already shaking.
“Within… rrreason.”
“Five minutes.”
“Thrrrree.”
“Done.”
Immediately you tear away from his grasp and run, giving him no time to think about it. The forest floor is surprisingly soft under your bare feet, a carpet of pine needles allowing you to run comfortably, unhindered.
Your ears are occupied by the sound of your own beating heart. It's pumping wildly in your chest, pure adrenaline coursing through your veins, making each decision. You zig zag, double back a little, and turn in a circle, to try and throw him off the scent. A part of you wishes there was a river nearby to help confuse the trail further. Then again, most of you is glad there isn't. It's not like you don't want to be caught.
A fallen branch makes you trip and you sprawl unseen in the dark. The rush is still there, but you try to be more careful and take a little time looking for anything on the ground that could harm you. Squinting in the dark, you make out a huge stone in front of you which could have seriously injured you. Skirting around it, there's a copse of close together trees to one side. Then, there's an alrighty roar.
He sounds so close, you must have made less progress than you thought. Dashing for the trees, you enter a little circle of pines and press your back against one panting for breath. You can hear him now. It sounds like he's galloping through the forest on all fours, crashing through branches and twigs like a hot knife through butter.
You daren’t move, you daren’t breathe. This close there's no chance he won't hear you. Thighs clenching so hard you're in danger of losing blood flow, you feel your slick covering them, nearly slipping apart because of it. It's uncanny; you don't know why your body seems to have this visceral reaction to his presence, but really you don't need to know. All you know is that this feels so right, so natural for you, that it's accepted without hesitation.
The absence of noise is what makes you jump. One minute there's crashing and breaking branches; the next, silence. You grip onto the rough bark, fingers white knuckling in fervent anticipation.
You hear him then, soft footfalls crunching and sniffing noises. Keeping your back pressed firmly against the tree trunk, you try to breathe as quietly as you can. Each second that goes by feels like it stretches on for an eternity, as you hear him get closer and closer… and then walk past behind you. Breath leaving you in a gasp, you relax your muscles slightly.
Until he's directly in front of you, completely naked, the sheer weight of him pressed up against you as he pins both your arms by your sides. His cock is throbbing against your stomach, huge and painfully hard. Bending his head to your level, his snout nudges your ear.
“I win… you’rrre mmine.”
He nips at your neck, his sharp teeth breaking the skin. Pain blossoms out from the mark, but it's followed by a wave of pleasure that sends another wash of wetness out of you.
Eddie growls so deeply that you shiver, and suddenly your world is shooting upward as he grasps you firmly by the ass and lifts you up, your t-shirt riding up to your chest. The hard bark of the tree is pressing into your naked skin as he holds you there like a play thing, claws digging in your flesh. His tongue laps through your folds, tasting you with such ferocity that it makes you moan wantonly, your nails scraping into his scalp, hanging on for dear life.
Cloying heat is surrounding you, suffocating you. You pull the shirt over your head and toss it in a vain attempt to get some relief but it's no use. Eddie's tongue is buried inside your tight cunt, a dizzying tornado that's making your head spin, but you need more.
“Fuck- please Eddie, I-I need- oh God- I need you inside me.”
He lifts your back off of the tree, then slams your spine against the rough wood, expelling all breath from your lungs. He's shaking his head back and forth, long snout rubbing over your clit. A hard no, but it's setting fireworks off inside you all the same. He lets up for a moment, just one, rumbling out words so close to your pussy you feel the warm air of his breath and the vibration of it on your clit.
“You want me… so bad… then fuckin’ cum. Now.”
His thumb breaching your weeping sex is a complete surprise. It's just so thick; moving inside you with such animalistic intensity that you're clenching and coming with an obscene scream directed at the heavens. You crumble to ash and dust within his very clutches, the smouldering fire flaming bright and burning all of you, inside and out.
There's no time to recover, to breathe. He slides you down the tree trunk and onto his waiting member, forcing it inside with barely any warning. Tears spring from the corners of your eyes as he forcibly lifts you by your hips and slams you back down, over and over, his powerful thrusts pulling whimpers out of you. You're just so full, his swollen length pulsing inside, throbbing you to ecstasy.
The strings tighten inside you, firming the pressure in your belly, which suddenly snaps, dissolving into an intense wave of pleasure that gushes from your hole and threatens to push him out due to its violence. He shudders with you, holding you close and grinding into you, helping you ride it out with almost gentle movements that bely the ferality he displayed only moments ago. Your foreheads touch softly, breaths in tandem.
For a second you think he's finished. You couldn't be further from the truth. His voice is strained, as if he's trying to keep it under control.
“You… do that… again.”
Before you can blink his knuckles are dragging harshly over your clit, back and forth, sending a shiver through your spine on each rough pass.
“Eddie- oh holy- oh fuuuck!”
You're barely able to speak, to think. Sentences fail to form, in fact your bordering on drooling at the way he's fucking you dumb. In moments you're clenching around him, walls fluttering uncontrollably as you sob out another release, muscles contracting involuntarily and quivering all over your body. After a while, you realise you're weeping, tears streaming with no barriers to stop them.
It still doesn't stop Eddie and his violent conquest over your form. He seems intent on owning you, ruining you, taking every last ounce of pleasure out of you to leave you a shattered blubbering mess. It's as if he needs to get his pain and anguish out; it's pouring from him and into each movement of his hips.
“Again.”
Sobs are bubbling out of your mouth, wet and round, spit gathering at the corners.
“Eddie, I- I can't-”
“Again!”
Then he's pinching your clit hard between thumb and forefinger, as his teeth nip at your breast. The overbearing pain and the zealous pleasure are too much. Shamefully, you release yet again, slick running down your legs and onto the forest floor in a sticky web.
It's only then that he holds you close, hard arms snaking around your back as your legs shake wildly either side of his hips. His bearish hands grasp you tightly as he throbs his own messy climax deep inside you, roaring loudly, pulsing and pulsing until you've milked him dry. Even then he remains, hard and swollen, locked in and unable to separate.
His touch is far more gentle now, lifting you by the hips as if you are to be cherished and placing your back softly to the pine needle covered ground. He hovers over you, almost in fear of breaking you, one rough hand stroking at the delicate skin of your cheek. Staring into his eyes, you see the shame harbouring within them.
Before he can speak, you're grasping his furred cheeks and holding his gaze.
“Eddie, it's OK, honestly. I mean, it was a little rough… but fuck me… that was amazing. You're amazing.”
He nuzzles into you, deeply breathing in your smell as he cuddles you in the softest embrace.
“-Orry.”
“You trying to be cute with me again, Eddie Munson?”
Your stern words just earn you another squeeze, a slightly tighter hold from his firm arms. For a while you lay there, feeling the other's heartbeat and listening to nothing but the wind between the trees.
It takes a bit, but the knot finally subsides and you are able to extricate yourselves from its hold. As soon as Eddie's comforting arms are no longer around you, you start to shiver massively.
“Need.. get you home… climb on.”
He's on all fours, crouching low in front of you like a tamed lion.
“You've got to be fucking kidding me.”
There's a soft rumble in his throat that almost sounds like laughter.
“Get on… beforrrre you frrreeze.”
You can't really argue with that.
Hesitating with your knee up high, you're trying to work out where you need to be. You've never ridden a… a wolf? A lion? A monster? Briefly, you think you've never ridden an Eddie, but you blush profusely when you remember that's simply not true.
Finally deciding on swinging your leg over near his waist at the thinnest part of him, you settle into the soft fur. He swings a paw up and grasps your hand, leading it toward the longer hair down his spine.
“Might want… to hold on… sweet-hearrrt.”
You twine your fingers delicately into the thicker part of his pelt. That is, until he starts running on all fours through the trees. You grip tightly when you feel the sudden rush of speed, fingers losing blood as you hold on in fear of crashing to the floor.
Once the initial shock is over, it's electrifying; a thrilling, hedonistic mix of riding a horse and a motorcycle at once. The wind whips through your hair and stings your uncovered skin, making you feel oh so alive. The constant push and pull of powerful muscles beneath you make you realise just how strong Eddie is. It suddenly dawns on you that no matter how rough he's been with you, he's holding back. If he showed you half his power you doubt you'd live to tell the tale. That stark realisation has you falling for him all over again.
It's that power that seems to flow up from him and through you. You feel like some sort of heathen queen, riding through the forest on your monstrous steed, naked as the day you were born. Wild, savage, and formidable.
Too soon, your impromptu ride is over as he lopes toward the lights of the cabin, eventually coming to a stop. Sliding off of his mighty form, you land on both feet practically buzzing with excitement, caring not a jot for the fact that you were still naked.
“Eddie, that was incredible! We need to do that again, like, every night. Fuck, I'm shaking!”
You beam at him, glowing inside and out.
“If anyone else… said that… I'd bite them. But… it's you. I'll be you’rrre… steed.”
“You just want me to ride you again.”
In the short time you've been together, you've gotten used to the subtle signs in his face, in the looks in his eyes, enough to be able to read him. You don't need any of those though, not when his usual whiskey eyes are blackened with desire.
“You… not done?”
Grinning profusely, you open the back door and beckon him with your finger.
“Nope.”
“You… animal.”
You laugh; a messy, loud, belly laugh at the pure irony of the situation.
Walking into the bedroom, you watch him follow you in. There's pine needles stuck in his fur, and mud crusted into his hands and feet. The very air surrounding him is of forests; of damp and bark and moonlight.
All it's doing is stirring up your insides further. Right now, this heathen queen needs her monster king.
“Lay down.”
He huffs lowly, towering over your tiny form.
“You… telling mme… what to do?”
“Yes. I am. You got a problem?”
You push lightly at his chest, making him collapse mockingly onto the bed, face twisted in taunting pain, as if you had caused him serious harm.
“Don't… hurrrrt mme, prrrincess.”
“I wasn't going to… hurt you, exactly.”
You straddle his body, backwards, mouth hovering near his already firm length as your ass swings tantalisingly just out of reach of his drooling maw.
“Now…. Sweet-hearrrrt, fuuuck… so unfairrr…”
You can feel the breath expelling from his mouth, the way the sweep of his tongue creates air that is failing to make it between your folds. It makes your cunt throb from the lack of attention, still puffy and drooling from your encounter in the woods.
You lick a firm stripe from his heavy balls to the tip of his engorged purple member, watching it shiver with the affection. There's a salty, brutish taste to him, mixed with the sweet, feminine tang of you, that makes you want to lick him over and over. Rolling the tip of his weighty length into your mouth, you roll it around with your tongue, licking any trace of you and him together away, to be stored in your memories forever.
“Sweet-hearrrt… please!”
He's panting, each short breath firing bursts of air at your cunt. You don't let up, not yet, suckling at his tip, pressing firm kisses to the slit on the tip. He's growling and whining, muscles twitching all over.
There's no way you can take more than a third of his threatening member into your mouth, but you do what you can, stroking firmly with both hands what you cannot take. Spit dribbles out of your mouth and down to your fisted palms, wetting the rest of his length with soaked, messy need.
He roars, lion-like behind you, fingers pressing further bruises into your soft flesh. You don't let up, you can't. You need to make him tremble beneath you; to feel those controlling muscles fold under the feel of your mouth.
The thrust up into your wet lips has you gagging around his length, gargling and spluttering around his thick head. You can't chide him for it, not since the movement sets your insides ablaze with need.
He curls as hard as his spine will allow; the tip of his tongue ghosting over your slick heat. Quivering, you let up on your assault with your mouth, and twist so you can face him. Whines and whimpers expel from his throat as his thick fingers wind around your waist. Before they can contort into growls and snarls, you sink down onto his slippery cock, all the way to the hilt, as if he were the perfect sword to your tight sheath.
“Lay back and relax… There's a good boy.”
Instead of taking control, he gives it to you. A whine, high pitched and needy, rolls out of his mouth.
Bending down, with him still flush inside you, you press your pretty lips against his slathered maw. Open mouthed kisses are pressed onto his jaw, tongue sneaking in and feeling his pointed fangs delicately. He licks purposely into your mouth, dancing against your tensed muscle.
Grinding hard into him, his solid weapon presses harshly against your g spot, stars forming in the corners of your eyes. He sits up so he can lace his thick arms around you, as if he needed to be even closer somehow. Responding in kind, you position your legs around him, holding tight as he thrusts up into you.
Sweat is glistening, dripping down your spine at the proximity of his boiling hot body. Your fingers wind into the thicker fur on his spine as he rocks into you, feeling him in your very core.
Suddenly he's grasping your hips, about to pull you off him. Whining, you shake your head, forcing yourself back down.
“I'mm gonna-”
“I know, please, I need to feel it, fill me up, please!”
Those words are all it takes for Eddie, pushing him over that precipice, free falling into ecstasy. You join him, plummeting into your own release as the feel of his knot consumes you.
For a while you hold each other, the only clue that time had failed to stop being your panting breaths. Your head is snuggled into the soft coat of his neck, his chin resting on the top of your head. As his hardness finally begins to subside you still remain, the sanctitude of the moment ongoing. It feels as if it will be an ongoing memory to play on a loop in the back of your mind, forever.
********************
The following two weeks flew by in a hum buzz of activity. You're pulling shift after shift at the hospital and helping out at the emergency shelter when you can. The town is pulling together, trying to heal and coming to terms with what will forever be a little bit broken.
Eddie's mood has been in a shifting, unstable state since the night he defeated Vecna. The nightmares were the worst part of it; on more than one occasion you've had to physically hit him to get him to wake up and stop thrashing in panic on the bed. You try to soothe with words, soft touches and kindness. It's helping, but you know he's got a long way to go.
Being busy has helped. He and Hopper have come to form an odd friendship. To his credit, Hopper never treated Eddie any different despite his appearance. In fact, he said he's one of ‘Hawkins’ finest upstanding citizens’, since he can't go out and cause trouble. It's not like he can be the town's weed supplier, after all.
Eddie needed something to do. Hopper understood that deeply, he explained, from his own past traumas and grief. So, he started towing cars to the cabin, getting Eddie to fix them up and send them back as an impromptu mechanic. Fixing things and earning a little money have certainly improved his mood. When he wasn't doing that he was working on the cabin which was starting to feel like home.
You're on your way there right now. After the conversation you had with Hopper this morning, a huge smile is glued to your face.
Approaching your home, you see Eddie outside working on a car. When he sees you he bounds over, grabbing the two enormous suitcases you've been struggling with and lifting them with ease.
“What's all… this?”
“Take them inside, I've got some news.”
He does as you ask, depositing them on the floor before he holds you close, snout breathing in your scent at the crook of your neck.
“Eddie, I spoke with Hopper. He's agreed to give us the cabin for nothing. I just gave away my apartment, so I can stay here with you.”
Eddie barks with delight, picking you up and spinning you around. You giggle, holding onto his shoulders. He presses his maw to your tummy, breathing you in.
When he puts you down on the floor, there's a queer look in his eye.
“Eddie, something wrong?”
Shaking his head, he falls to his knees so he can look you in the eyes as he holds both your hands in one enormous paw.
“Not wrrrong… differrrrent. We'll need the cabin, forrr all of us.”
You tilt your head, confused.
“What do you mean? There's only me and you.”
Staring at you as if to gauge your reaction, he presses one bearish hand to your stomach reverently. The hint isn't lost on you, eyes widening in disbelief.
“Eddie, are you saying that you think I'm… pregnant?”
One slow blink.
Legs wobbling, you sit on the floor in front of him.
“I'm on birth control, I mean, surely I can't be… are you sure?”
Eddie taps his nose.
“I'm sure. Is it… a prrroblemm?”
Searching your thoughts you realise it isn't. It really isn't. There's nothing you want more than to spend your life with him, to have a family, no matter what that looks like.
“No, not at all. It's a little… fast, but I want this.”
Holding your cheek with his rough hand, he makes sure you keep your eyes trained on him.
“Are you surrre? What… if it's…”
He gestures to himself, in all his monstrous glory. Cupping his hand on your face, you shake your head.
“I don't care if we have a baby, or a-a cub, or a pup, as long as it's yours and mine.”
He holds you then, softly and close as you twine your fingers into his thick pelt.
A life lies before you, one that you couldn't have possibly predicted. A fairytale life; one where the monster gets the girl, and gets the happily ever after.

“Does it always feel this weird?”
Robin tapped her finger on the table, bored out of her mind. “Does what feel weird?”
Eddie shrugged, “I don’t know, maybe the fact that we saved the world a week ago from a monster-psychopath that tried to open four portals to another dimension in the middle of Hawkins and everything is just…Normal?”
Steve grunted while continuing to shelve the movies onto the small cases, “after the four times you save the world,” he sighed, “you get used to it.”
Eddie could only groan, feeling like he was slightly going insane. After the entire town was out to get him for being a ‘freak’ and accusing him of starting a cult for Chrissy’s murder, he’s not sure he could move on.
The government tried its best at covering everything up, immediately giving Eddie an alibi and insisting he was innocent. The Goverment also made sure that Chrissy’s death had been a closed case, giving some excuse about drugs and her abusive mom being the culprit. Jason was then put under investigation as a suspect for her murder, just so the accusations could be muddled easier. After a couple of weeks of investigating, Jason was arrested for attacking Lucas and Erica.
Eddie would still sometimes get looks from neighbors and people in Hawkins, but for the most part, he was left alone. No one really wanted to confront him after everything that had happened.
Robin and Steve luckily were able to beg Keith for Eddie to get a job. They had to practically be on their hands and knees. Eddie was grateful, though. It was a distraction where he could fuck around with his friends and not worry about his problems.
“Great, love to see it.” Robin just snickered at Eddie before immediately receiving a glare.
"How are you so unaffected by this?" Eddie started to fiddle with his rings.
Robin shrugged, "What, Eddie, you want credit or something?" Before he could make a snarky comment back, their conversation cut off by the sound of the ringing bell on top of the door.
“Welcome to Family Video—” Eddie’s breath left his lungs when he looked up from the computer. Oh, wow, oh shit—
You stood there with a genuine smile on your face, elbows leaning on the counter, while looking at the metalhead in front of you. You were talking to him, and he, for sure, had no idea what the fuck you were saying.
He just had the wind knocked out of him, and all he wanted to do was stare at your perfect—beautiful—lovely face. The curve of your nose, the way your tongue clicked against your teeth, your eyes staring right back at his—yeah, he was totally fucked.
“Hey, dingus, she asked you a question.” Robin had her eyebrow raised at the metalhead in front of him. He snapped out of his daze, brown doe eyes wide as he tried to recall what you had said.
“I–Um–” Robin couldn’t help but have an amusing look on her face. The Eddie ‘the freak’ Munson was nervous? He was normally the utmost confident one by shouting and yelling about everything and anything. But here he was, completely and utterly speechless.
“I was just wondering if you had a copy of Teen Wolf. Sorry, I just couldn’t find it on the shelves when I came yesterday.”
He swallowed. “Yeah, I–um–can show you.” He led the way towards the back of the video store and picked out the exact copy for you. He couldn’t help but feel hot—sweaty and sticky. Was it hot in here? Did Steve forget to turn on the AC?
“Here.” He handed you the copy, but not before your fingers brushed against each other. He could feel his own heart pounding against his ears. You were soft—so so soft. The tingling sensation never left while you smiled brightly at him.
God, you were just so beautiful. He hoped you would come to see him every single day of his entire life.
“See you around, Munson.”
He deadpanned. You knew his name?
~~
The next time that you came back to the video store was three days from when he had first met. And you bet, Eddie definitely counted each passing minute that you didn’t return the VHS. But he knew that you had to. You just did.
It was another very boring day with Steve and Robin, not much traffic since the weekend was over. He was currently sketching in his book and trying very hard to come up with a new story for the campaign on Friday.
He heard the bell to the door ring but didn’t bother to look up. He figured that if they needed anything, they would ask him or Robin for help. He was still sketching, his pencil making light marks on the sheets of paper.
“What are you up to, Munson?”
His heart immediately burst. You. You were here. You were standing right in front of him with a slight teasing gleam in your eyes. Your head was cocked slightly to the side, and your smile was so completely infectious.
“Oh, it’s just– it’s just for my club that’s this Friday.”
You blinked, eyelashes falling perfectly onto your face. “Hellfire club? Aren’t you the president?”
Oh. Oh. You knew of the hellfire club? He knew that you weren’t a part of the popular crowd, but he didn’t realize you were into nerdy stuff either.
He was floored, absolutely floored. “You know of my club?”
You propped your elbows up onto the counter, trying to get a better look at his sketching. “Yeah, my little brother loves D&D, so I’ve played it quite a few times.”
He licks his lips, eyes darting slightly nervously.  “Yeah?”
“Yeah.” He sees that you still had Teen Wolf in your hands, and it was leaning against the side of your hip. Right, yeah, work. He has stupid work to do.
“Here, I can check that back in if you want.” He reaches for the movie, and your eyes widen slightly. Oh, yeah. The movie that you had rented. To be honest, you had forgotten about it.
You hand it back to him and watch as his eyes scan for your name on the computer. He then types a little on the computer, which you definitely took advantage of by looking at his hands. And oh, wow, his hands. They weren’t perfectly manicured or anything, but the rings that adorned his fingers definitely sprouted butterflies in your stomach.
He turned to you, smiling, “there. you’re all set.” You give him one right back and almost turn to leave.
“Hey, what if you came to our club?” He leaned just a bit closer towards you.
“What?”
“This Friday at 6:30. Our club meets in Ms. Hank's classroom.”
You look down at the fake wooden table for just a second as if you’re contemplating. In reality, you were trying to hide that bubbling feeling inside you as he stared at you with such intensity.
“I might just take you up on that offer.” Before he could even react, you gave a quick kiss on his cheek. His mouth popped open in surprise, he could hear Robin and Steve gasp in the background.
But you had that cheeky smile on your face. Your eyes sparkled once more as you stared at his startled face. You let out a consent sigh before turning around and leaving the store. All he could do was beam.
“See you around, Munson.”

If I Should Stay
Y’all are the best. Seriously. I love y’all. One quick note: if y’all reblog, please include the tag “#if I should stay” (mind the capital i) so people can find the rest of the parts! Thanks so much!!! ❤️
Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 | Part 5
Eddie does end up following Robin because he does not, in fact, have a death wish.
Even if, apparently, he dies in the future. Go figure.
She instructs him to grab his guitar. “Why in the fuck,” he starts, then reconsiders when Robin whips around to stare at him. “Anyone ever tell you you’re terrifying?”
Robin shrugs a shoulder. “Not as much as they should.”
She stashes her bike in the back of his van and directs him to the Harrington residence, where Steve’s waiting, arms crossed, wondering smile on his face. “Miracle worker,” he calls, and Robin laughs as she grabs her bike from the back.
“Hate to break it to ya, Dingus, but you’re just not scary.”
“I’m plenty scary. I’ve got a nail bat.”
“Right, because that would beat Nance’s sawed-off in a fight.”
“Hey, it could! You never know! They’ve got different ranges!”
Robin rolls her eyes at Eddie, like she’s asking if he can believe it, which. No. No he can’t.
“Sorry,” he says, regretting everything when they both look at him. “What the actual fuck is happening?”
“Come inside,” Steve says, suddenly all business. “We’ve got a lot to discuss.” His eyes find Robin’s. “One of ‘em took Barb last night.”
“Fuck,” Robin whispers.
“Yup. Will’s been missing for two days. Maybe, if we get down there soon enough…”
“Let’s hope so. Which one of the rugrats found El?”
“I think they all did? But Mike’s the one who took her in.” He shakes his head, mouth a grim line. “I saw Dustin today. They’re kids, Robs.”
“So are we,” she reminds him, heaving a tired-sounding sigh. “A buncha kids fighting real-life monsters.”
“Monsters?” Eddie parrots.
Somehow they end up inside while Steve goes to pick up the Party. Who the party is, Eddie doesn’t know. Just like he doesn’t know why he’s in Steve’s Harrington’s house with someone who isn’t Steve Harrington.
“Who’s the Party?” He asks Robin. “And why am I here again? If I die, doesn’t that mean I shouldn’t be here? Should be somewhere far, far away instead?”
“The Party’s a group of kids Steve babysits. They’re the first ones to go through this whole mess. And admittedly, you’re here partially because you can help, and partially for selfish reasons.” She offers him a lopsided grin. “Believe it or not, watching you die was kinda traumatic.”
“Right,” he says slowly. “And you and Steve? How do you know each other? He and Nancy Wheeler are the talk of the town, and if he’s stepping out-”
“He wouldn’t,” she says harshly. “Ever.” She takes a breath. “Two years from now, or a year ago, he and I work together in a mall. Long story short, we get captured and tortured by Russians. High on truth serum, I tell him I’m a lesbian in the bathroom, we help take down the big bad, and boom. Instant platonic soulmates.”
Eddie gapes at her. “What the fuck.”
“Just about,” she nods. “Oh, and the kids love D&D, so you’ll have plenty to talk about. They’re little shits but they’re also kinda great once you get to know them.”
Eddie stares at her. The front door opens, and Steve walks in, followed by a gaggle of preteens and Nancy Wheeler.
“Robs,” Steve says, not slowing his stride as he begins taking the stairs two at a time. “Bathroom. Now.”
Robin grimaces. “Breakdown time,” she murmurs to Eddie, then follows Steve, leaving everyone else staring at each other.
“So,” Eddie says. “I heard you like D&D?”
A dark-haired kid who looks suspiciously like Nancy narrows his eyes. “You play?”
“Play!” Eddie repeats. “I don’t just play, my young friend, I am the greatest Dungeon Master this side of the Mississippi.”
A curly-haired kid begins to grin. “I think we should put that to the test.”

The point is, Steve can’t hear.
A person can get hit in the head only so many times before it takes effect and does permanent damage. Steve’s incessant claims that being in the front row when the fight breaks down does nothing to him, that he’s safe and alright as long as everyone else is, mean very little in the face of cold, evident facts.
His hearing isn’t intact. It takes him a while to adjust to this reality, but with the help of his friends, he eventually does. Thanks to Nancy’s fierce bullying of the government guys who come to Hawkins to assess the situation and cook up some half-assed excuse for everything that’s happened, Steve now has a small army of well-paid doctors that really seem to be eager to help. He also gets state-of-the-art hearing aids that, well—they work, but Steve’s range of possibilities is still quite narrow. Let a few people into the room, let them speak simultaneously and all he can hear is static, rustles and crackling.
But he’s pliant. He listens when Robin tells him they have to get in the car and hit the road to get to his appointment on time. He lets her help with inserting the aids properly on the days he’s just too impatient and too bugged about how they feel and look to even care if they help him hear. He’s not dismissing her enthusiasm when she starts learning sign language before he even gets a chance to discuss it as his option.
He’s doing a lot of things for her, even if they’re supposed to be important to him first. To be honest, these days it’s mostly doing things for Robin that keeps him going. He would have gone completely numb ages ago if it weren’t for her and her unique ways of picking up the severed pieces whenever he crumbles.
He’s also doing it for Dustin. If Robin is his twin sister, Dustin is the little brother he’s never had. And Dustin… It’s just been too rough on him. It’s been rough on everyone; how could it not be if the only thing they seem to be able to do is wait? Wait for the lab guys to figure out a way to end this. Wait for the panic to cease. Wait for Max to wake up.
Wait for the grief to pass.
They wait and wait, but it never stops—on the contrary, it brings fresh, equally unwanted feelings. They’re always there, lurking behind the corner like a kitten that wants to launch itself at an unsuspecting owner – only with them, there won’t be any playtime involved. Steve recognizes this feeling. It’s the same feeling he’d had in that Winnebago when he was dropping off Max, Lucas and Erica at Creel’s doorstep. An awful anticipation of doom waiting to happen.
He doesn’t like it. He’d like to find a way to do something about it, but he can’t seem to get to the core of it.
Maybe that’s why he thinks he’s hearing things when he really can’t be hearing them.
At first, Steve writes it off as him being paranoid. It happens only when he’s home by himself, so it’s the only logical explanation – he takes off his aids, he gets too attentive about his surroundings, right? He thinks he hears something, but it’s only his tired mind playing tricks on him.
Especially because what he hears are mostly usual, non threatening things. The sound of water running in the bathroom (he goes inside, everything is dry and quiet). The sound of kitchen drawers being opened (he goes to the kitchen, the cabinets are exactly the way he left them). The sound of cutlery being dropped on the floor (but he hasn’t even taken anything out in the first place).
He even gets used to it. Things happen, his brain is weird. It’s confusing, sure, but hasn’t he seen worse things? He definitely has.
But it doesn’t keep him away from sleeping with his bat perched on the side of the bed. If he sleeps at all, if a sudden sound of breaking glass doesn’t keep him awake until his morning shift with Robin, when he can finally leave this goddamn house and take his mind off of things.
Steve tries to ignore it. He really tries, but the point is—Steve can’t hear things like running water in the bathroom when his aids are off. Hell, he only makes it out if he focuses on it when they’re in, so why the heck can he hear it so well? Why are the sounds multiplying?
It goes on for weeks. He avoids the topic for as long as possible, trying to shoo away the obvious similarities between his house and the house that made him hate spiders and cringe at fireplaces not too long ago.
It gets a little too real on just some random Tuesday, when his kitchen positively explodes with sounds the second he gets the hearing aids off. Cabinet doors slam left and right, mugs fall to the floor and shatter, forks and spoons seem to be getting thrown around like ragdolls—but Steve sees nothing. He hears it, he hears it so loudly it hurts, the cacophony of noises he’s never even heard before, but his eyes register no proof of it. He curls down on the floor, expecting sharp glass pieces to cut his skin, but nothing happens. Nothing’s here.
He still covers his head, tucked away in the furthest corner of the kitchen, waiting for it to just stop, to leave him alone—
Steve doesn’t know how long it takes, but when it’s finally done, his knees are shaky and his breathing is ragged. He snatches his aids and takes off, straight to Robin’s house. He doesn’t even lock the door, a thing his parents would kill him for if they knew.
It’s the first time he explains everything to her. It would be hard not to, because she sees right through him. His panicked, restless eyes are enough indication of things not being right.
“Maybe, uh—I think I’ve read something about hearing loss and auditory hallucinations? That they happen, sometimes, especially if the loss of hearing is sudden?” she says, already flipping through her notebook where she keeps all Steve-related stuff and pacing around the room with enough force to make a hole in the carpet.
Steve’s not convinced. “It seems pretty real to me,” he mumbles and frowns. “But that’s the point of it, right?”
Robin shrugs. He notices that she has a small set of wrinkles around her eyes. Steve looks at them for a second in total disbelief. They already have some worry wrinkles, and they’re not even well into their twenties.
He’s gonna lose all his precious hair in a span of months if this doesn’t stop.

They decide to bring it up during his next appointment, still hoping that it’ll maybe go away on its own. Robin tries to make him get a consult straight away (what if it is rabies after all, Steve, like a really really really weird, belated presentation of rabies?), but he waves it off. The option of hallucinations doesn’t soothe his nerves, but as long as it’s not a chiming clock, he can avoid confronting it for a while longer.
It doesn’t go away, though. Steve can’t quite pinpoint it, but it almost feels like—well, it obviously doesn’t feel like it’s real enough to be real. But there’s something that accompanies the sounds, the lack of evidence, the missing of this ominous feeling that Creel’s house inflicted on him.
The sounds—it feels like they bear a presence. Steve’s still scared and gets spooked by them whenever they happen, but he’s no longer truly afraid of them.
Some of them are even comforting. The sound of his pillow being fluffed up before he gets to bed, the sound of pen scratching on paper whenever he leaves his journal open on the desk, the whooshing sound of a lighter being opened and closed – they all make this eerie place his parents have left him a little less empty.
He rarely lets himself think about it that way. He may be a little kooky, but admitting that he’s lonely enough to find hallucinations comforting would be way too much to handle at the moment.
So Steve can’t hear, but he learns to accept the fact that, apparently, sometimes he can. He doesn’t know how it works—to be quite honest he doesn’t know a lot about experiencing hearing loss at all, despite now being hard of hearing himself—but it just makes its place in his life.
He thinks about it a lot, but he tries not to overthink it too hard. It just happens. Things fall to the floor in his house, curtains get torn, the fridge gets opened frequently. He just can’t see it. His mind hears it, but his eyes don’t get the memo. He lives for longer than a week. It’s probably a good sign; nothing’s going to make his bones snap in two now, probably. Hopefully.
Things change suddenly.
Steve tries to spend as much time with Dustin as possible. Between work, his appointments and Robin, Dustin, Max and the kids are his top priority. He doesn’t think he would be able to function if he let himself take a breath and step down from his piled up responsibilities that he chose to take on himself. They keep him together. They keep him going.
Besides, Mrs. Henderson gets really worried. Sometimes it’s just better for Dustin to stay with Steve, and Steve is more than happy to be with him, even though it seems that Dustin doesn’t really like his cold house either.
It’s one of Dustin’s quiet days. He gets them, sometimes—Steve knows that trying to get him to talk on one of those days is a lost cause, and his ears are killing him. He was in such a hurry this morning he didn’t take the time to put the aids in properly. Work was overflowing with people, too, so now his temples are throbbing from trying to pick up the chatter from the static. Seriously, how is it possible that people still spend so much time watching movies in the face of almost-apocalypse, Steve doesn’t know.
“Would you mind if I took my aids off for a while?”
“Go ahead,” Dustin mumbles, bending over his new book.
Something flips inside Steve’s chest. He knows it’s not supposed to be like that, it’s unlike Dustin to be so… not himself. But what can Steve do? He can’t make him talk. He can just wait, nothing else.
He gets up to leave his aids on the counter and pour himself some coffee. He should probably start making dinner soon, but he decides to take a few peaceful sips first.
It’s weird. To sit with Dustin Henderson, of all people, without a single word. Steve glances at him every once and again, but Dustin either ignores him or genuinely forgets that he’s there.
Steve’s so deep in his thoughts about Dustin, he doesn’t even look to the side when a sudden sound of kitchen chair toppling over cuts through the silence. His eyes are trained on the kid.
Who flinches. And frowns. Steve can swear that he fights the urge to look around.
Each and every chair Steve keeps in the kitchen is standing where he placed them in the morning after breakfast. Nothing real has happened. But Steve heard it. And, apparently, Dustin did too.
Steve’s brain is working overtime for the rest of the evening, and he desperately tries not to show any of it. He’s jumping into conclusions. It was an accident; dumb luck. It’s nothing. He’s working himself up, nonsensically.
But it doesn’t feel like it’s nothing. It was only one chair, one sound, but the feeling that accompanied it was strong. Too strong to be nothing.
He waits to drop Dustin off at home like he’s on pins and needles, fumbling with his fingers and keys and pacing around. Maybe it’s better that it’s one of Dustin’s quiet days, he mostly gets away with it, getting only a few side glances.
When gets back home, it’s late, but he’s buzzing with anticipation nonetheless. He can finally do something. He discards his aids haphazardly, not nearly as carefully as he should, and starts running around the house. The house his parents built is huge—but the kitchen turns out to be quite small when he’s finally done with arraying at least a dozen lamps there. He has to raid three of his father's garages to get enough extension cords.
When he turns them on all at once, he has to take a step back and shut his eyes, because it’s too much light.
Just the right thing he needs.
His heart is beating so fast he can almost feel it ramming against his ribs. That’s about how far he’d thought this plan through.
“Come on,” he says and clears his throat, trying to gauge how his voice may really sound now. He repeats himself, hoping that it’s louder this time.
Nothing happens for a while, but he knows he’s close. The feeling is here. The presence that hasn’t left him in months. It’s here.
Steve walks around the kitchen, moves the lamps a little, shakes some of them. His hands are clammy and it feels like he’s chewed through his cheek at this point, but he can wait. He’s waited for a long time. He can wait a while longer.
When the microwave beeps, he stops breathing for a second.
Until it beeps again. And again.
“Oh god,” he breathes. He doesn’t know if he speaks clearly or not, he doesn’t even care. “Come on, show me that it’s you. Come on, come on—”
The lamp furthest to the left starts blinking, slowly at first. Then the one next to it, then another one, and another one, like someone’s walking around and making them flicker one by one.
They’re blinking so much one of the bulbs goes out. Steve doesn’t hear it hiss, so he knows it went out here, now. He knows it’s real.
“Oh god,” his hand goes to his mouth. His eyes are weirdly itchy. “Oh god, is it really you, Eddie?”
The lamp directly in front of Steve goes wild. When he reaches out, it’s almost like he can touch the presence that’s here with him.
And it’s Eddie. Eddie’s here with him.
