The Great War
Relationship: Druig x Eternal!Reader Warnings: Angst, canon divergence Summary: Druig had to watch you piece yourself back together after the Eternals split — and fears of facing tragedy once again rise when the Eternals end up at his doorstep. He’s determined to put you first this time, but nothing is ever that cut and dry, and you prove that. A/N: sooooooo I forgot about this one shot... Um, I believe I wrote it almost a year ago and it just sat on my computer so after some re-reading and editing, I think it’s okay to share! I hope you enjoy.
Masterlist
He watched you from a far as you gave the children a tour of the garden. He knew it was your pride and joy and your face did nothing to hide the light that shined within you when one of the kids asked a question.
You could command the crops however you pleased, and your brain was packed with facts about every single thing that grew. You could go on and on for hours—Druig could personally vouch for that. Recently, you’ve been experimenting with hybrid crops, trying to find a new species to perfect, and you kept Druig very much in the loop about your progress every night before bed.
But he didn’t mind in the slightest. He’d listen to you talk about anything so long as that look of blissful happiness was plastered on your face.
Druig wandered a little closer to the garden, not close enough to draw attention, just enough to eavesdrop on your tour. He tried to look busy like he was inspecting a row of corn, but really you had his attention. Then again, he couldn’t think of many times when you didn’t crowd his mind.
"…and here we have some cabbage," you explained. The kids following you oohed delightfully.
Ah, yes. The cabbage. Druig chuckled to himself. A vegetable that has little business growing out here, let alone this time of year. But that was just the beauty of your powers. You could make pretty much anything sprout in nearly any environment.
It had taken some convincing for you to really use your powers. You had been so concerned with if growing certain things and aiding the villagers would go against the mission. But Druig had kindly reminded you that you two were away from it all. You were helping this civilization thrive—any means necessary.
Hence, cabbage growing in the summer heat.
Druig watched as you moved the young tour group to a vacant section of the garden.
"Here is where I hope we can start growing carrots soon," you said, motioning towards the freshly plowed land.
"Carrots?" One of the children said, her voice shakily repeating the word. "What are carrots?"
Druig smirked at the flood-gate the child had unknowingly opened. You wasted no time dishing out your detailed lecture on carrots.
You were just getting into a spiel about beta-carotene when a shiver went up Druig’s spine. Something was off, and he noticed it immediately. The village had been disturbed, penetrated by an unknown. He took a quick glance back at you to make sure you were alright. When Druig saw you were still drawing on about carrots, he let out a sigh of relief and left the garden in search of what had caused such a powerful imbalance on his land.
But his hunt hadn’t been a hunt at all. The problem made itself known immediately.
They were bold, he had to give them that.
***
The young student gave you one last hug before she ran back to her parents. You had made her home your last stop as you went about dropping the students off after the tour. She was a talkative one full of complex but beautiful questions and you absolutely adored that. You wanted them to be curious, to ask as many questions as they could think of. You’d answer them all as you had for their parents when they were young. And their grandparents. And so on.
You pulled your shawl tighter around you as you made your way through the village, looking for Druig. He probably thought you hadn’t noticed him observing your tour but you must certainly had. He was hard to miss and after all these years still managed to drive you a bit wild, even when standing there doing nothing.
You scanned the various groups of villagers but couldn’t seem to find your lover among them. You frowned and stopped at a congregating group of women. They were weaving baskets.
"Has Druig been around?" You asked in their native tongue. The women looked surprised at your question.
"He’s at the Center talking to our visitor," one woman kindly explained before turning back to her work.
You frowned. Visitors? What visitors? You didn’t see casual visitors this deep inland.
You thanked the women for their time and made your way to the Center. It was a nice communal space that held a variety of events, from meetings to religious services. It wasn’t too uncommon for Druig to be held up in there during the day, but the mention of visitors drew a lot of confusion for you. Why would he invite someone in?
Druig was very cautious about outside forces, to the point you got slightly annoyed about it. You’d only been out of the village a handful of times and were always met with Druig’s intense resistance. He was incredibly protective of you, sometimes bordering the edge of controlling—but you understood why. He loved you deeply and had promised to never let anything—or anyone—hurt you again. So far, he had kept his promise. But a sense of unusual nervousness filled you as you approached the Center.
You really didn’t know what you expected to find when you pulled open the door to the Center. Part of you thought you’d find Druig working on something. Another part of you thought he’d be having a meeting with these mystery visitors.
What you hadn’t prepared for was to come face-to-face with some old…pals.
The group of Eternals turned to face you the second you opened the door. Like you, it didn’t take them long to realize who they were coming in contact with. They bore mixed expressions, surprise and relief being the most evident. Well, except for Druig. He sulked off to the side, looking displeased when his eyes landed on you, but the others paid little attention to him.
Once the shock wore off, they mostly all greeted you joyously. You couldn’t help the smile that crept its way onto your face as you soaked in this unexpected but welcomed reunion.
You didn’t think you’d ever see any of them again after the fateful night. The Split had been especially excruciating for you. The life and people you’d known, the routine and security, all vanished. You were a bit lost for a while until Druig had offered you a hand.
However, that malice and fear weren’t at the forefront of your mind right now. All you could focus on was your fellow Eternals coming together again, sharing a moment under one roof. It truly had been so, so long.
"What are you all doing here?" You asked after giving a share of hugs and happy exclamations.
Sersi, naturally, was the quickest to step up to the plate to answer your question. The light in her eyes faltered as she opened her mouth to speak, but Druig didn’t waste a second before cutting her off.
"Nothing," Druig spat. He stepped in front of you, nearly blocking your view of the others. Your brows furrowed at his commanding tone, but he didn’t give you time to retaliate. "We had some matter to discuss briefly, nothing special. They were just on their way out, actually. Why don’t you help the villagers prepare for dinner, dear."
"Dear?" It was Ikaris who spoke up now, unable to hide his surprise at the pet name that rolled off Druig’s lips naturally. But while it was Ikaris who said something, a look of surprise flashed on everyone’s face.
Druig ignored him, his focus solely on you. "Please, love."
You know you should’ve listened to your lover and usually, you do, but, in the moment, you couldn’t. You wanted to know what was going on, even though you found comfort in the village. You knew this wasn’t nothing. Stuff like this didn’t happen. You knew these fellow beings too well. The reunion happening here wasn’t for shits and giggles. And they certainly weren’t here to just check up on you and Druig. No one did that.
"Druig, come on…" Sersi pleaded.
Druig shook his head. "She’s been through enough thanks to all of you, thanks to all of us. The last thing she needs is to be put in serious danger."
Ikaris scoffed. "How about you let her speak for herself."
Druig shot the other man a glare you hadn’t seen in centuries. In fact, you hadn’t seen Druig this upset since the day you two had reunited.
"I haven’t seen you all in ages," you said, trying to keep your voice light. "I certainly am curious to know what brings you out here." You gave Druig an apologetic look but he didn’t refute. His features even seemed to get softer at your patient words.
Before anyone else could interject, Sersi gave you a rundown of it all. From the Deviants, to the true purpose of the mission, to the regretful news of Ajak. The Eternal didn’t miss a beat relaying a story she already seemed tired of sharing.
You soaked in every word, completely stunned and alarmed by the news she had to share. When she explained they needed your and Druig’s help, you tensed. You could now understand why your lover had been so reluctant.
Unfortunately, Druig was also right in the fact that you didn’t need this, didn’t want this disturbance. You had created something beautiful and familiar here and your immediate desire was to go down with this ship.
So much was at stake on both fronts, and the surprise of it all wasn’t something you wanted to wrap your head around right now. Losing this? The land? The people? Everyone? Your hands shook as you spoke.
"I…I am sorry, Sersi, but I don’t see how I can be of any help," you said as gently as you could manage. "I think I may be better off here."
"Please, we need all—,"
"What have you done to her?" Ikaris asked Druig, cutting off Sersi and making everyone in the room jump. "What are you controlling her or something?"
Druig let out a wicked laugh. "Does she look like she’s being controlled, Ikaris? Frankly, I am insulted you would even think I’d treat her that way."
"Because you’re so above controlling others."
Druig marched towards Ikaris, leaving little room between them. His voice was bitter and hot as he spoke. "I am when it comes to the one I love. How dare you accuse me of that." Druig paused as he and Ikaris stared at one another as if challenging each other to say another word. When Ikaris didn’t reply, Druig took half a step back and turned to the group. "I think you all have overstayed your welcome, don’t you agree?" He looked around expectantly, but no one moved.
Cautiously, you broke the heavy silence. "This has truly been a lot for one afternoon. Maybe we should take some time to think. We can regroup later."
After an unsettling moment of everyone watching Druig like he was a ticking bomb, he agreed with your proposal. The others were quick to follow suit and, not surprisingly, looked relieved to have a moment out of the stuffy Center.
You happily showed the group where you gathered for meals, hoping they’d at least want a snack after trekking all the way out here. You enjoyed your dinner among the people and your friends and tried your best to refrain from bragging about the vegetables in the stew that came from your garden. You failed at that, but everyone seemed impressed with your crops. Druig held your hand through the entire meal, successfully but bitterly avoiding the questioning looks of the other Eternals. It had not been missed by you that you two were yet to explain your dynamic and how it came to be. Sure, a little flirting had occurred prior to The Split, but declarations of love must’ve been a confusing step.
But it was good. The moment was good and the evening was ultimately enjoyable. The villagers loved conversing with the guests. They were so welcoming and curious. The food was lovely. The company was lovely. The atmosphere was lovely. Was this all truly in jeopardy? How could it come to this? You didn’t like having your heart heavy with this.
Couple of hours later, after you finished assisting with the cleanup, you found yourself sitting under a tree, away from the bustling village, snacking on some berries. You weren’t alone for long, though, as you saw Sersi make her way through the dense trees.
"How are you doing?" She asked as she took a seat next to you on the ground.
"Okay," you said noncommittally. You held out your hand, presenting a few berries. "Would you taste these? I can’t decide if they need to be sweeter."
Sersi chuckled. "Is this a ploy to poison me?"
You shivered. "I haven’t dealt in that in centuries."
One area of your powers you had always held back on was the way that, while you could grow the most delicious crops, you could also grow the most deadly. But there was no need to unleash that anymore. It did little to help the village.
"Alright," Sersi said with a shrug and took the berries. "But if they find my body out here, they’ll probably look at you first."
You nodded. "That’s fair."
Sersi tossed the berries in her mouth. She hmm’d. "So," she began, "you and Druig?"
"Yes," you replied to her question that wasn’t a question. Part of you hoped that would be that but Sersi’s unwavering stare made it clear she wasn’t walking away without the whole story. This came as no surprise.
You took a deep breath and began. "After Ajak sent us off I was…lost. So very lost. Everyone else just made their decisions and went on. I—I didn’t know where to go, where to begin. I had known one way, one goal, for as long as I could remember and now everything was upside down. Everyone went their own way. I felt left behind." You paused to take a deep breath. You hadn’t spoken of such things with anyone but Druig, but, then again, no one had been around to hear it. To ask.
"It took a couple of years, but I eventually came upon Druig," you continued. "He admitted he had tried looking for me but I was the only one off his radar. He then apologized for storming away. I shared my feelings on the situation—on The Split—and the villagers welcomed me. I’ve rarely left since. Over time, our usual flirting and banter grew. He’s just… He’s just it for me. He’s so kind and caring. He’s taken care of me in so many ways and I truly couldn’t ask for a better partner. Up until today, I believed in fate. But maybe this was all just part of the plan. I could do without the pain and feeling…deserted but, in the end, this love has been good to me."
Sersi was silent as you spoke. She grew still beside you. Your spite had mostly subsided, but you still felt it was important to share, especially if dooms day was upon you. And while you had, for the most part, moved on and adapted, you knew Druig still held a bit of a grudge. Not to mention the anger he felt towards himself for leaving you, but over the years, you tried your best to ease his shame.
"Well, I—I didn’t— We, we didn’t…" You watched Sersi scramble to find the right words but her lack of reasoning wasn’t a bad thing. There was nothing to say.
"It’s okay," you assured her. "I’ve moved on. I’ve even made peace with all of it, I think." You looked back down at your basket of berries. "But there is someone who hasn’t quite come around to the idea of forgive and forget."
Sersi nodded. "Druig never quite seemed like the one to entertain such ideas."
"Please excuse his animosity towards the situation." You paused. "About earlier…"
"We do need you, truly," Sersi said. "I understand it’s frightening and you’re welcome to despise us but think about this place." She looked up at the trees and moonlight surrounding you two. "Everything’s so wonderful. The people, the place, the home you two have built. Don’t you at least want a shot to fight for it?"
You looked at the landscape around you. At the trees. The berries. The homes off in the distance. You hear the chatter of the villagers. The blow of the wind. The hum of the nighttime creatures. You closed your eyes, recounting the dinner, how nice it had felt to have so many of your friends together again. You wanted that all over again. You wanted this home you built.
"I think I was overwhelmed by all this…news," you explained. "And at first, I didn’t want anything to do with…anything. If the world was ending, I wanted to be here, in my home, but now… I don’t believe I can sit idly and let this place, these people, vanish." You opened your eyes. "More importantly, I can’t let my friends, my family, down."
Sersi took a moment and pattered your hand. "I’m relieved to hear that. You’re important, you’re valued. We can’t do it without you."
You shared a shy smile. "Well, I’m glad you’re happy about my decision. Lord knows how Druig is going to react."
"He’s shocked," a voice said from among the forest. You and Sersi whipped your heads around to find Druig walking out from behind a group of trees.
"I’ve never known you to eavesdrop so much, honey," you said, trying to keep the situation casual, but you were practically shaking.
Druig approached you two slowly. "Forgive me, my lady. I had only come to suggest we retire for the night. I certainly hadn’t expected to find you…conspiring," He shot a look at Sersi, who held her head high.
You sighed. "Druig, please…"
Sersi turned back to you. "I think you two should talk."
You hesitated but eventually agreed. Sersi avoided Druigs heated gaze as she left, heading back to the village. Druig took Sersi’s former spot next to you under the tree.
"You truly want to do this?" Druig asked softly, a stark contrast from his previous demeanor. "After everything, you want to help? You think we have a chance?"
"We have to try," you said. "For this. For us."
Druig took your hands in his. You turned to face him finding him very close. Your foreheads were practically touching. He stared into your eyes like you were all that existed and, for a second, it felt like that.
"I can’t bare to see you hurt again, love," he said. "And if we do this, there’s no telling what will happen after. There’s not even a guarantee we’ll make it out alive—,"
"That’s why we try," you pleaded. "And I’m aware this reunion may mean nothing. We’ll all probably go our separate ways again and that’s fine. I have a place to go back to. I have a routine and a garden and goals… But above all else, I have you. And with all that, I think I’ll be okay."
Druig searched your expression like he was expecting you to change your mind, but when nothing else left your lips, he nodded in defeat.
"If this is what you wish to do, I’ll follow you." He brought one of his hands up to caress your cheek. "I’m sorry for my behavior earlier. It was uncalled for and you always have the right to make your own decisions, do you understand that?"
"I know that, Druig. You were just being your protective self."
"That’s obvious?" He said with a humorless laugh. "I just want to see you happy, love."
"I am happy, Druig," you said, your eyes starting to well with tears—the good kind. "Happier than you’ll ever know."

(not my gif)
The air was quiet and still around you. The jungle was the quietest it had been since you'd been out there. You didn't hear the buzzing of flies or the chirping of birds. It was strange, but you didn't think about it for too long, instead moving on to think about how you were nearing your destination.
You walked for a few more minutes before you began to smell smoke. In the distance, through the trees, you could see the black plume rising into the sky. You felt a nervousness building behind your ribs with every step you took closer. You tried to shake the feeling away, assuring yourself that everything would be fine, and there was no reason to be nervous. You tried to swallow the feelings that were rising up to the back of your throat as you reached the entrance of the village.
It was bigger than you were expecting. People were turning to eye you suspiciously as you walked slowly along the path through the village. You watched the people that watched you, trying to find a familiar face amongst them. You weren't having much luck, and there were enough buildings to have you searching for hours.
You stopped and turned to a woman that was looking at you. "Excuse me... Do you know where Druig is?" you asked her. She suddenly stood up straight and her eyes began to glow a familiar gold. "Hello Y/N" her voice spoke, but you knew it wasn't actually that woman that was using her own voice. You shook your head with a small smile.
You turned when you heard a door open loudly behind you. You turned to see Druig walking out of a building and towards you with a smirk on his face. "My beautiful, beautiful Y/N. I was wondering how long it'd take you to visit me" he said as he walked up to you, stopping only a few feet away. You felt all the nervousness and anxiety fade away at the sound of his voice. His playful tone was comforting to hear after all those years apart, and your heart raced at the compliment he always loved to give you.
"I could never stay away from you forever" you mirrored his tone as you took a step closer. "I would hope not" he teased as he took a step closer. Now you were merely a foot apart. He was so close yet so far away. There were so many things you wanted to say to each either, but neither of you can utter a word.
Druig took a final slow step, stopping only inches away. He leaned in and you began to lean in to meet him in the middle. You almost whined in annoyance when he stopped, his lips an inch away from yours. You could feel his warm breath on your lips as you stared up into his dazzling blue eyes. The air thickened around you and it almost felt like it was choking you.
At first you're not sure what he's waiting for, then you heard a small voice in your head. Can I kiss you, my love? You barely processed his question before you leaned in and smashed your lips against his, throwing your arms around his neck to pull him as close to you as possible. You can kiss me forever. You pushed the thought into his mind as your lips moved in synch. You felt him smile into the kiss at your message.
You pulled away after a few more moments, resting your forehead against Druig's as your eyes fluttered closed. "I've missed that" you whispered to him, and he laughed. "Me too" he paused for a moment. "I've missed you" he whispered, causing you to open your eyes. You smile as you get lost in his ocean blue eyes. "I've missed you too" you whispered back.
You pulled away to look at the huge smile on his face. You were sure this was the happiest you had seen him in centuries. Tell me what's on your mind, pretty girl. Druig always knew when you had something on your mind, even without his mind reading. He could read you like an open book, but he hated reading your mind without your permission, which is why he always tried to persuade you to tell him what you were thinking about. He had mastered the art of being able to sweet talk you into telling him almost anything.
“I want to stay here... with you" you said quickly. "If you'll have me?" you added after a few seconds of silence. "You're the only one I ever want to have" Druig leaned in and connected your lips again, in a softer kiss this time. He did his best to show how much he loved, appreciated, and cared for you through the kiss. He held his arms around you middle, pulling your body flush against his.
He pulled away, panting slightly. "You can only stay on one condition..." he tried his best to be serious, but you could see the faint smirk pulling at the corner of his lips. "And what's that?" you asked, humoring him. "You can never leave again" the playful bite to his words faded a bit, and was replaced with a more serious undertone.
You looked up at him with a loving smile. You reached up and held his face, rubbing your thumb across his cheek softly. He leaned into your touch, sighing happily. "I'll never leave again" you agreed quietly.
"You're sure?" you had never been more sure about anything in your entire existence. You nodded. "There's no one else I'd rather spend the rest of eternity with" Druig smiled widely at your words before leaning in and kissing your lips quickly.
"I love you, my beautiful Y/N" you felt your cheeks heat up at his words. "I love you too, my darling Druig"

I’ll be honest, I’d love to request a Druig Halloween blurb…I just don’t know exactly what to request. All that I can think of is somehow having the reader be a librarian (it’s my favorite trope, seeing as how I am one myself). Maybe Druig volunteered to do a story time for kids at Sersi’s prompting and he was so popular, he was asked back to do a spooky Halloween one? Idk…I’ll leave it up to you.
PS: I love your work so much!!!

A shiver ran through you as you stepped into the library, the door shutting behind you as the warmth from the inside welcomed you in. The lights had been dimmed by this time of night and the warm, orange glow of the halloween decorations you had expertly strung up two weeks before reminded you of what day today was: Halloween.
You unraveled your scarf from around your neck and noted the vacancy at the front desk. Despite your coworker’s disappearance, however, you weren’t alone. You heard a man’s voice carry from the children’s room and with it, the excited gasps of the kids who came for story time, thrilled by the tale at hand. As you hung your scarf on the hook, you followed the voice through the threshold and smiled.
On the colorful rug were a scattered group of children, dressed to the nines in their costumes with their parents by their side, and in the middle of them a man who looked much to out of place between them.
His dark hair was in his face as he read and his black leather jacket nearly distracted from the different accents he used for each of the characters in the story- his voice fluctuating with each line.
You couldn’t help but laugh at the way he sat in the wooden chair that was far too tiny for him, hunched over to find the words on the page. Despite his stature and admittedly brooding appearance, it was evident that the kids just adored him.
Without realizing, you smiled along with his story until the very last line when the kids erupted in pitter pattered applause.
And you couldn't help but join them.
As the applause fell and the parents escorted their kids out of the library and into the cool Halloween night to begin their trick-or-treating, you realized as the last child left that all that remained were you and the unnamed man.
With the room drowned in nothing but the “Halloween Party” playlist your coworker had left on, you watched as he shrugged on his leather jacket. Maybe it was the fact that you were spending Halloween alone, working or the way he had a magnetic energy towards him despite his demeanor, but you didn’t want to allow him to leave so easily.
“You did a great job.” You complimented him. “The kids loved you.”
Looking up from digging into his pockets, he shrugged and rolled his eyes.
“I think everyone just likes a good story.”
“Do you?” You asked.
“Do I what?”
“Enjoy a good story.”
He thought for a moment.
Pushing himself up from the stool, he chuckled to himself.
“I’ve been a part of far too many to say.” He replied. “Ask me an easy question, Y/n.”
Your name slipping from his lips both flustered you and invigorated you. You both were hyperaware that you had never shared your name, but as shocked as you were, you hated to admit that you weren't as uneasy as you were intrigued.
“How do you know my name?”
The soft smirk that painted his face was both welcome and infuriating at the same time.
“I’m not sure what you mean.”
“Are you a ghost?” You asked, only half joking.
The laugh that erupted from his chest proved the side that was being truthful, wrong.
“In some places.” He said. “Though, not here. If that’s what you're worried about.”
He slowly crossed the room to you, his hands behind his back as he did. You straightened against the wall of the threshold, watching his every step and memorizing the way he walked over to you in pure confidence and cockiness. Usually you hated a man who exuded any of it, but you could tell every ounce of it was justified- far from the men built up by feigned respect you accounted usually.
“So you’re human then?”
He smiled.
“You ask a lot of questions.”
You were suddenly aware of how close he stood to you.
His chest was practically against yours and although you could see his face, you swore he was close enough that you could feel his breath against your skin.
“Naturally inquisitive.” You responded.
The lack of movement from either of you ushered the lights in the room to shut off, leaving the both of you basking in the warm, orange glow of the Halloween lights.
“Can I ask you a question?” He asked.
Choked up by his proximity to you, you nodded.
“Would you like to get get coffee?” He asked. “After your shift, of course.”
You had to admit that you had opened your mouth to respond as soon as he asked the question but shut it a moment later when he responded to your protests without a word. It was almost as though he could read your mind.
“You’d like that wouldn't you?”
Standing up straight, you stuck your nose up.
“Maybe I would.”
“Well,” He said, leaning in closer. “It’s a date, then.”
As quick as he leaned into you, he pulled away and shoved his hands into his jacket pockets.
“That’s what you humans say anyway, right?”
Glancing at his figure from his shoes to his eyes, you nodded.
“That’s right, Mr...?”
Knowing where you were headed, he chuckled and stepped backwards.
“Druig.”
Watching as he, Druig, stepped towards the door, a part of you felt a breath that you hadn't;t even noticed you had been holding escape your lungs.
His stride was long and quick and before you knew it, he stood at the entrance with his back towards you. Druig’s face peaked over his shoulder as his hand met the handle.
“Happy Halloween, Y/n.”
And just like that, he left, with only the cool breeze that slipped in as the door shut behind him there to greet you.
You found yourself wondering who he was, or, rather, what he was, but as a couple walked in behind him, you found peace in the fact that you would find out later that Halloween night.

Druig knew his time with you would be short, if only he knew just how short it was.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Despite his more reclusive manner, Druig fancies himself a little bit of entertainment with the humans from time to time. He enjoys watching parties, albeit, from a distance, instead of partaking in them like his fellow Eternals, Sersi, Sprite, and Kingo seem to love. Instead, he prefers to watch the humans from afar as they converse.
Though he does not show it, as time goes, he grew to care for the humans around him. Their complex feelings and thoughts, not to mention their tenacity, determination, and fearlessness, stuck out to him. Unlike him and his friends, the humans weren’t immortal. They didn’t possess the powers he and his fellow Eternals indulge on. They simple had their intelligence to differentiate them from Earth’s other species.
And yet, despite all that, they were able to grow more intelligent by the day. They still strive to wake up the next morning even if they know it may just be their last. They aren’t afraid to live.
In the centre of it all was a dancer.
Druig has watched you from afar for quite some time now, a dancer whose compassion knows no bounds. Babylon wasn’t a big city after all, he could watch you from afar without you knowing for a while. Even if that statement did sound rather creepy. He reasons that he’s just trying to make sure you stay safe.
You were one of those humans that seemed to possess more compassion and kindness in your heart than the rest of your peers.
Your tenderness seems to reach out to all manner of life forms too.
Whether that were plants or animals, you treated them with the amount of dignity and respect he never thought was possible in a human. While you were an odd fellow, sometimes slinking out of crowds to no one knows where. Only reappearing a few hours later with a more jovial smile. Druig still seems to be completely enamoured by you.
“Tending to your plants again, are you?” He spoke in Babylonian when he ‘accidentally’ bumps into you.
You were balancing two pots of rather large plants on both hands when you bumped into the Eternal. Almost dropping the two objects if not for Druig, who quickly steadied you and caught one of the pots about to slip from your grasp. He took it from your hands as you thanked him and apologized for not being careful enough. He only smiled and walked with you towards your destination, holding the pot in his hands.
“I simply thought that my garden was lacking in a variety of plants, and spring is to come, so I thought today was a good time to buy more.” You shrugged as you walked side by side with him towards your home.
The pot in your hand was rather heavy, so Druig, ever the gentleman, opened the door for you as you both made your way behind your home to your garden.
“This isn’t diverse enough for you?” He teased you while you placed the potted plant down and took the one in his hands. “There is always room for more plants.”
Druig simply smiled as he watched you take out the plants from their pots and mutter something under your breath before planting them in the ground of your garden. For a moment, he took his time to look around your garden. As a dancer, you didn’t receive much money, well you did, but not enough to allow you to be able to buy a home with a garden as large as this. But as he remembered, this home was gifted to you by another person whose life you had saved.
He was sure to add that to the list of odd things about you. Not only did you constantly mutter something underneath your breath, something even he can’t hear. You also seem to always be around when chaos unfolds. Putting you right in the middle of death. Yet, you always come out of it alive, not unscathed, but alive, and with another life with you.
In every accident that seemed to happen when someone’s life was in danger, you would be able to rescue their life. Of course, this didn’t happen every single time, you didn’t have powers like him or any of the other Eternals, but you saved enough lives for it to be noticeable.
Like the time a building collapsed and you somehow were ablet o pull a child form under the building right before the collision. Druig remembered how much he cursed at himself that night when he saw you with battered and bruised. After you had shielded some of the heavy debris with your body to protect the child.
He thought that he should’ve been the one there, hypnotise the child to run away or do something. Not you, the human who was much more fragile than he was.
Or the other time where a Deviant somehow made its way into the city walls and started destroying the surrounding area. A few lives were lost that day, but more were saved by him and the others. You were there as well, pulling people back from the monster’s jaws, slinking away when the monster’s claws were mere centimetres away from you.
That night you suffered a few broken bones and could not dance for a few months. Months Druig spent with you so you don’t suffer from the most terrible thing in the world.
Boredom.
“Are you going to keep standing there, watching me do all the hard work or ar you going to help me by getting that watering can beside you?” Druig was quickly cut off from his train of thoughts when your voice reached his ears.
He straightened himself from where he was leaning on and chuckled. Grabbing the watering can beside him and giving it over to you. After offering him a small thanks, you spoke again.
“You know,” you paused, “I’ve been noticing something strange lately.” Druig felt like he knew where this was going, yet he still entertained it, leaning back to the wall and crossing his arms in front of his chest as he smirked. “Really? What could that be?”
You laughed as you wiped the dirt off your fingers; before standing up to look at the Eternal in front of you. You weren’t an idiot. You knew of his advances towards you. Despite this, you knew better than to fall in love with him. And yet, your heart still yearns for his touch and his lips on yours.
“There’s this man, who keeps following me around. He thinks I cannot tell, but, you see, I can always tell when his eyes are on me.” You poke as Druig hummed, feigning confusing with a quirk of his rows. “He’s a very curious man. He has these odd powers that make him truly magnificent. The people would praise him like God.” You paused as you whispered the last part, “But I think he’s a thief.”
That made Druig truly surprised. A thief? Him? Maybe Makkari. But him? “A thief you say? What makes you say that about this man?” It was then you walked closer to him.
Mere centimetres away from the man plaguing your dreams for months now. You thought.
May the Gods forgive me.
And let yourself fall in love.
Something you may regret in a couple of days.
“Because he has stolen my heart.” At that moment, you closed the distance between you and him. Placing your lips on his as he chuckled, he saw it coming; of course, he was just waiting to see when it’ll happen.
Not caring about the light dirt that still coated your clothes and hands, he placed one of his hands on your waist and pulled you closer to him. Flushing both your bodies together as his lips greedily took in yours. Like you, he may regret doing something like this in the years to come. But right now? With one of his hands on the small of your back and the other behind your head, deepening the kiss. He couldn’t care less.
He’ll deal with the consequences later.
If only he knew how soon those consequences would come.
Needing air, you pulled yourself away from him. Placing both your hands on his chest as you looked up at Druig with shining eyes. Usually, he’d make an offhanded comment on how you were making a mess of his clothes with your dirty hands. But now, all he did was softy caress your cheek with his hand, the other making mindless patterns on your back.
Druig had never felt o at peace before in his long life. And maybe it was a curse to him that he felt this way towards a human, destined to die long before he even starts to age. If ageing was even possible for an Eternal such as himself. But he couldn’t help it.
Yes, your kindness, compassion, and humility made him first feel entranced by you. Few humans were willing to put their lives on the line to save a stranger. But you weren’t the only human that wasn’t heartless; you weren’t notable in that regard.
So, it was your personality, grace, imperfections, love for plants and animals, and surprisingly green thumb that made your plants thrive even in the coldest of winters that made him fall so desperately in love with you. Yes, it was in the way you carried yourself, in the way you spoke, in the way you moved, in the way you, to simply state it, exist.
Druig has always been enamoured by humans’ ability to take their little time and make it worthwhile. But with you, that seemed to have doubled.
As if you knew every second you lived had to be cherished and loved.
That was the thing he loved most about you.
Call him a fool if you must. Because he was a fool, a fool in love.
You giggled softly when your gaze broke form his overly intense ones before pulling away and patted his chest lightly. Turning around to tend to a particular rare flower, Druig smiled. He watched the way your hands softly glazed over its white petals. He remembered that flower. He gave it to you as an apology a year ago.
“I didn’t think anyone could render you speechless.” You teased with your back facing him.
Druig stayed silent as a mischievous smirk crept up onto his features. As you started to check the leaves of a different plant that he, for the life of him, could not remember the name of, his arms wrapped around your body from behind. Pulling you flush against his chest as he leaned his cheek against yours.
You started laughing when his nimble fingers began tickling your sides.
“Druig!” you yelled as a warning. “Stop!!!” you yelled again between your laughter.
“You want me to stop, beautiful?” he stopped for a moment; letting you finally breathe as you giggled and leaned into his muscled torso. “Yes. Thank you.” You breathlessly mutter.
Druig didn’t let you go though, he kept his hands on the front of your body, swaying side to side. Before whispering in your ear, “No.”
Followed by his fingers immediately tickling you once again. This time it had completely caught you off guard and your wretched instincts, decided to kick in. Your elbow, all of the sudden, hit him straight to his gut. Druig stuttered back as he watched you quickly turn around, both your hands closing your mouth as regret and fear rushed over you.
He would chuckled if it didn’t cause some pain to flicked in his gut.
“You’re stronger than you look.” He spoke as he doubled over. “Gods! I’m sorry, I warned you!”
You tried to keep a light air with your jokes, still, Druig saw how panicked you looked. It confused him slightly. Whilst you were stroner than Druig could ever expect, he had seen how nimble and strong you could be when you pulled or pushed people out of the way from oncoming danger. Your reaction, wide eyes filled with shock and fear, was the curious thing.
Though just as quickly as the pain came, it went. His main priority was now ensuring that you didn’t hurt him. He let a careless smile make its way to his face as he moves towards you. Placing his hands on your cheeks, he chuckled, “I’m alright, my love.”
Those two words felt so natural on his tongue. As if he was meant to call you his love all his life. And hearing those words, he could see your eyes sparkle for a moment. Only for it to suddenly disappear as your brows furrowed. As if you had heard or seen something displeasing to you.
Druig was just about to ask what was wrong, but you quickly shook your head and turned to look back at him. Smiling widely now. All before your lips touched his. This time, with an edge of hurriedness to it.
Druig smiled into the kiss as your hands begun roaming from his chest to his back, pulling him closer to you as the two of you made your way towards the bedroom. Months and months of pining and push and pull between the two of you seemed to have finally reached its peak.
This time, he was the one who pulled back. “I thought you had dance practice for your performance in a couple of days?” he mischievously asked as you shrugged. “I don’t think they’ll mind if I miss a day.”
You smirked as Druig’s hands begun edging the lines of your tunic and pants, “Hm, I don’t think they will.” Was all he said.
That night, Druig spent in the comfort of your touch, of your skin, of your soft voice. Of pleasure and thrill. Your hands roaming his skin, his hands roaming yours. He didn’t know if Heaven existed, or if it was something humans created. But whatever it was, he was sure it felt like this.
Your body against his as you gripped the sheets under you, his groans in your ears as pleasure flowed through his entire being. It truly felt like Heaven.
He wished he could make you see the stars and make you feel the way he does every single day, but alas, your life was fleeting. What he could do was take use of what time he did have.
If only he knew how little that time truly was.
~
A few days later, as night took over, festivities ran high.
Druig went into the city’s centre late into the party, knowing he didn’t really have a reason to surround himself with drunken mortals until a few moments before your performance. The moment he did step into the great hall, he could already see Sprite telling stories of battles and the endless glories of Eternals and humans alike, using her apparitions.
Kingo was dancing with some other drunken men and women, laughing alongside them as they tripped over one another. He could see Ikaris and Sersi conversing in one of the far corners of the room. The two of them had bright smiles on their faces as they chuckled and laughed at what the other must’ve said.
Druig wasn’t usually a jealous person, but he did occasionally get jealous. He was jealous of seeing the two of them. It would take an idiot not to see they were softly falling in love with one another. And unlike him, their love could blossom and grow in the thousands of years they’ll live through. Whilst his love would have to wilt and die the moment you closed your eyes.
Something that’ll come sooner than he thought.
He shook his head, ridding himself of those macabre thoughts. Perhaps he should take a leaf out of the humans’ book and cherished what short life they had. Mortality was never a thing he had to face until he fell head over heels for you.
In the corner of his eye, he could see Ajak watching him. Well, she was always watching everyone form afar. Her motherly tendencies and instinct never seem to halt even in the festive environment. Thena, Gilgamesh, and Phastos were talking to some other humans on one of the tables. Well, it was more like Phastos talking and the rest listening. Though seeing from Gilgamesh’s rather bored expression, he was looking for a chance to leave the conversation.
The only Eternal he didn’t see was Makkari.
But he didn’t think too much of that. Makkari had always been the Eternal with a penchant for mischief, with him in close second. She was probably out exploring some part of the city none of them could get to or stealing something that interested her whilst the people partied.
Suddenly, the music dulled, the drums people were playing silenced, and that had been the moment he’d been waiting for. Druig slinked back to the part of the hall where not many could see him, despite him being able to clearly see the middle of the hall where everyone had parted away.
Slowly, a different tune started to play. One made of more melody than that of the festive drums of before. One that had a beat, a rhythm, and a tune. From the entrance of the hall came a slew of dancers. They all dressed in the same beautiful clothing that matched the interior of the hall. With their talents and grace, everyone loved them.
Despite their similar way of clothing themselves, Druig’s eyes easily landed on yours. The two of you made eye contact for a while when you went in, he grinned when you bashfully broke your gaze.
As you moved your body across the ground with grace and agility. He couldn’t look away. Enamoured and entranced by your elegance. He let his lips tweak up to a very rare soft smile. One he immediately retreated when he suddenly felt someone tap his shoulder, right in time for the song to finish and the dancers to take their leave after basking in the loud cheers of the audience.
When Druig looked to his side, he groaned in displeasure. Staring up at him was the mischievous grin of a certain Eternal that he couldn’t locate earlier that night. Makkari.
She grinned widely at him.
“What?” he signed as well as spoke. It wasn’t like the people around him could understand his language either way. Makkari only laughed loudly as a response, “I see your eyes was stuck on a particular dancer.” She teased. “I also see the way you follow her around like a creep.”
She laughed once she finished signing that last part of her statement. Druig cocked his head to the side. Was it that obvious? As if she could sense his thoughts, Makkari quickly signed.
“It isn’t that obvious, don’t worry too much, but I do like watching the people here and I,” she paused, “I see the way she looks at you. Are you going to do anything about it?” She queried.
Makkari had no way of knowing that Druig had already done something about it. The only question in his mind was, what now? He wanted to pursue you more; you didn’t have much time left in your life.
Although right now Babylon was at peace, that didn’t mean the human lifespan now was very long. As far as he knew, the average age where human women died were around their 40s, you were just about to reach 30 this year. You only had so long left.
He should do something about it.
Cherish the years you have left with him. But would it be worth the heartbreak after? And did you even want this? You could’ve wanted to just love someone that would die with you. He could read your mind to ifnd out the answers to his questions, but he had sworn to you once this friendship bloomed to never do that. And he’d rather die than betray your trust in him.
“You should do something about it.” Makkari signed before smiling at her friend and leaving him to lament on her words.
It was at that point that Druig realized something.
He didn’t care how long he had with you. He knew you loved him; if you didn’t you wouldn’t have kissed him. So, whatever time he has left with you, he’d gladly spend it by your side.
After this realization, he immediately bolted out of the door to look for you. He didn’t know where you went, but an idea went into his head once he saw one of the dancers. Not caring to ask, he went into her mind and searched if she knew where you went. The answers that came to him puzzled him.
You had separated from the group early on after they had left the hall, and this particular dancer, whose mind he inhibits now, saw you making your way to the rooftop of the great structure that was the great hall.
For all his time watching you, he had never seen you even go there or allude to wanting to go there. It was a beautiful place to watch the stars and the city below, but it wasn’t somewhere he thought interested you.
With a puzzled mind, Druig made the ascend towards the rooftop of the great hall. When he reached the top, his heart dropped to the ground. There you were, standing extremely close to the edge. Watching the ground below you.
He hesitantly called out to you. When you gasped and almost lost balance of your footing, Druig swore he could feel his heart stop just for a second.
You slowly and carefully turned around, now facing him.
“What are you doing?” he spoke, hesitantly and slowly made his way towards you.
By the way your face scrunched up in a dilemma, you seemed to not know what to tell him.
“Step away from the edge my love, you’re going to get hurt.” He was now a few metres away from you. He had half a mind to just use his powers and get you out of danger, but he stopped himself.
When he took another step forward, you yelled at him. “Druig, please! Don’t- Don’t come any closer.”
That sudden fear in your voice caused him to stop immediately. What were you doing??? What was happening???
“I-” you could only stare at him with tears brimming the corner of your eyes, “Why do you have to make this so difficult for me?!” You screamed at him.
To be completely honest, Druig ddidn’t know what you were talking about. He hadn’t seen the signs; he hadn’t seen you seemingly wanting to hurt or kill yourself. But perhaps he was just blind to it, and for that, he hated himself.
He called out to you again, his voice bringing the tears in the corners of your eyes to fully pour out. You sobbed softly as Druig wracked his brain for something to say, anything at all.
How he wished he could just approach you, pull you from the edge and comfort you. He loathed seeing you cry. But he couldn’t. He couldn’t risk coming any closer to you in case that you decided to do the unfathomable.
“Why are you doing this?!” Was the only thing that came out.
You closed your eyes and shook your head violently to the side, whispering and muttering something under your breath. Something he couldn’t hear.
He’s had enough. He cherished your trust in him and he’d hate to break it. But he cared about you more. He couldn’t lose you. Not like this. Not when he had just realized how much love he could give you.
At a moment’s notice, he used his power against you, only to feel a sudden drawback, a terrible headache swirled his head. And you, didn’t move away from the edge. His powers. Didn’t work.
He called out to you again. This time, cautious and absolutely terrified.
The headache grew tenfold in size and pain as he tried, again and again, to force your body to move towards him. To get you to safety, to convince you that you didn’t need to do this. That whatever was pushing you to kill yourself at this moment was irrelevant and didn’t matter.
But it wouldn’t work.
Panic rose through his entire system. Something he didn’t feel very often. But at this moment, with the back of your feet at this point dangling dangerously on edge and his powers seemingly unaffecting you. Terror filled him.
“I’m sorry.” You whispered, “I wished we had more time.”
Druig’s legs moved before he could think; he practically ran towards you, desperate to do something instead of standing around. But it was too late by the time he was at arm’s distance towards you. You had leaned back. You had fallen from the building. You had ended your life.
There was a small thud when your body hit the ground, followed by hundreds of screams. The festivities stopped almost immediately. And so did he.
He stayed silent, processing what had just happened. In the end, when he realized this wasn’t just a sick and twisted dream being played on him, he dropped to his knees.
Druig stared at where you had just stood minutes ago, before you took your own life. In his mind, he berated himself for not being able to do something about it. The fact that your mind was immune to his powers was the least of his concerns at this moment.
He could hear Makkari run through the stairs leading up to the rooftop. She stood in shock at the top of the staircase, taking in the sight in front of her. Of Druig, the one Eternal that had never seemed to show any kind of weakness, suddenly on his knees, helplessly watching the spot where the woman he loved once stood.
When Makkari made her way towards her friend, she didn’t use her speed. She took her time for once. Walking towards Druig softly before coming down to her knees beside him as well.
Her right arm reached to his right shoulder, her left on his left, whilst her cheek leaned towards his left shoulder. Offering him a silent comfort, she leaned sideways towards him, embracing him in a side hug. He didn’t move, didn’t react.
He simple stared.
Oh, all of the things he would give to just see you once more. See your bright smile even when you had broken yet another bone from saving the life of a kitten who was just about to be hit by a horse. Hear your voice as you rambled about how someone was kind enough to give you a rare plant form their travels. Fell your lips against his own as the two of you chuckled in the privacy of your garden.
There were many things Druig, an Eternal, didn’t feel much compared to the humans around him. Life experience allowed him to do so. Mortality was a human attribute he never thought would look at him straight in his eyes.
He didn’t know how to feel, what to think, how to act.
Very time he had felt disturbed or helpless, like the times Ajak wouldn’t let him intervene as humans brawled one another, he reacted with anger. He didn’t like feeling sad. He preferred to be angry.
So that was what he did.
He shrugged Makkari’s touch away from him and abruptly stood up. Making his way towards the staircase, his shoulders shoving into Ikaris as the rest of the Eternals finally reached the top of the rooftop to see what happened. He didn’t care for the way Sersi or Ajak called out to him until Makkari stopped them.
He felt angry.
Resentful almost.
At himself for not being able to do anything.
At the world for making humans so damn fragile and mortal.
And finally.
At fate for making him fall so deeply in love with someone who he knew he had a limited time with. Only that he didn’t realize how truly limited that time was.
As he made his way outside the hall, he heard one of the dancers cry. “We were just about to celebrate her birthday. What could push her to do such a thing?!” She wailed into someone’s shoulder.
Oh, fate was truly cruel, wasn’t it?
Your birthday, and not only did he not know, he also had to witness your death on your fucking birthday.
How cruel the world was.

Kingo, Druig and Sersi's thoughts on marriage??
(and yes ik Sersi obvi likes the thought of marriage due to her getting married to Ikaris and all that but I mean remarried for her)
Kingo: LOVES the thought of marriage. He wants a BIG wedding. Gets really into the planning. Can you imagine how good he would look in a suit? Will make all your wishes for your wedding come true. Nothing will be too expensive
Druig: I think he wouldn't really care for marriage. If he loves you a wedding won't change any of that just the ring on your finger and an official paper. If you want one he is fine with it and will marry you. He would want a small wedding though.
Sersi: Sersi loves weddings! And since her and Ikaris wedding were so long ago no one would know they are technically still married. She would definitely want to marry you. You two would plan the perfect wedding for the two of you. Friends and families invited.

Years had passed. The Eternals had all gone they're separate ways. Other than you, you had done a full circle. For example You stayed with Ajak and Sprite in South Dakota, Gilgamesh and Thena in Australia, Even Makkari on the Domu, and currently you resided with Kingo in india.
“Have you gone to see Druig?” You heard Kingo question you “No, Why?” You asked with a puzzled expression. “I don't know, You should just go see him” Kingo replied.
“Is this your way of kicking me out?” You asked sarcastically “no it's just you guys used to be so close and you’ve been moping around for the last few thousand years' ' he rushed to explain himself.
“Fine, i'll go” You replied standing up from the spot you had been sitting in on Kingos couch. As you made your way to the door you yelled “see ya later, Kingo '' You voice rang through his house.
Later you found yourself outside of the Amazon, This is where he should be. “Well, here gose nothing”  you muttered to yourself as you walked through the woods. A little while later you found yourself by a creek.
By that creek you saw an injured girl, and the person you had longed to see all this time. Although you felt sympathy for the girl, something else boiled in you, Anger. No that couldn't be right, displeasure maybe a little, anxious no, jealousy? Could it be? No.
You watched Druig tend to the wound on the girls leg, not even realising you were there. Until a Deviant attacked. Without thinking you rushed up and started attacking it. If he didnt notice you  before he sure did now.
This Deviant was not like the others you had fought, this one had been healing itself. To kill it you would need to use your full power, it just came with a cost. As you tapped into it Druig realised what you were doing as your fingers darkened with the amount of power you had been using.
The Deviant had started to die. As you had let out a shriek as you finished it off, then falling to the ground. Your vision began to fade and you heard Druig rush over to you.
It had only felt like a few seconds till you were woken up by the sound of a machine. “What the fuck?” You muttered to yourself while standing up to the sound of people arguing outside the door.
“What were you thinking?” a familiar voice said, “I was trying to help her.” You hear Druig’s attempt to defend himself in his voice.
The two continued. When you opened the door you saw all the eternals standing there except for Ajak.
“Well Good Morning, I see you visited Druig finally” Kingo said sarcastically as Makkari pulled you into a hug. As you pulled her in, you flipped Kingo off as a response he gave a face of fake offence. “You guys are weird” Druig commented.
“Sure Cult-boy” Kingo remarked. “Cult-Boy?” Druig repeated irritated as your lips curled into a smile at the joke. “I'll have you know that my so called cult is the reason Y/N here is Alive” he snarled in response.
“Anyways,” Sersi concluded their petty fight, “Ajak is dead and we need to stop a celestial being born” . Sprite cut her off.
“Okay then” You replied, slightly shocked. “So how are we going to do it?” you asked the group. “We haven't gotten that far in the plan yet” Sprite spoke up. In response you let out a nodd, and then you heard screaming from outside. “Again?” You muttered while getting up as everyone rushed out of the room.
When you got outside you could see druig controlling the people of the small cult-like village “Let them go!” You called to Druig, with a sigh he let them go “get to the river!” He commanded as the humans ran.
“Y/N!” ikaris caught your attention “A Little help” he questioned sarcastically sending the deviant towards you. The deviant was flying towards you. Its tail hit you. You fell into the fountain. Ikaris what the fuck.
You began to fight the deviant. The gold magic you had been using turned red. That was odd. Regardless you kept fighting. Suddenly it turned to gold. What? The deviant turned to gold. Your powers were red.
You pulled yourself out of the fountain. That was the last one. Everyone was out of breath and you looked down to your hands. As if starting at them like they would be any different. They were the exact same collection of rings that were assorted in medal and age. But something fell off.
Druig rushed over to you as he watched you look at your hands panicked. “Are you alright?” He asked, panicking, “Somthings wrong?” You said frantically While looking up “What's wrong?” he questioned “Well to start THAT DEVIANT JUST TURNED TO GOLD” You yelled pointing to the deviant “AND MY MAGIC TURNED RED'' You yelled taking in a breath “I COULDN'T DO THAT BEFORE!” You yelled again.
“Hey” Druig said softly trying to calm you down “Hey” He called again “HEY!” He yelled gaining your attention this time “Lets go to the domo and we can try and fix this” He reasoned as i calmed down.
—- time skip —--
I had been sitting on a chair in the domo when Druig approached me, “haven't done this in a while” He said as I set my book down. I chuckled “Got any new music recommendations, the last guy you recommended died” He said “Actually i do” you smiled shutting the book “I Highly recommend Taylor swift, and for you i definitely recommend Her album Folklore” You smiled.
“Got any new weird dreams to tell me about?” You asked, “Actually I have a few.” He laughed. The two of you talked for a while. And you got curious if he were single, cause in all honesty if he had a girlfriend you'd be jealous of her, but if he were single that's honestly;y hurts.
You had found out he was single, apparently his last girlfriend and him broke up due to conflict of interest. “She never understood me like you do,” he joked. “I mean i would make a better girlfriend then her” You joked well half joked.
“Definitely,” He agreed while eating a piece of bread. “You know, I never understood why we stopped talking.” Drug said honestly. “You had your cult and I wanted to travel,” I replied. Causing him to sigh “I wish we didn't stop talking” He replied looking down “I've missed you” he looked up “I missed you too” You told him. Oh if he could see that you're the one who understands him, you've been here all along so why can he see, he belongs with you and you belong with him.
A few minutes later druig started “Y/N, I'm going to do something, and if you hate me for it i will probably hate myself for the rest of my-our existence” Druig rambled, “what are you going to do kiss me?” I joked. I got no reply as druig leaned forward cupping my face with his hand and leaning in more and then it happened, our lips connected. It felt like we were the only two people in the world. It felt like the world was not just about to end.
Then we pulled apart “So?” He said questioningly “Do you hate me?” He asked sheepishly, “I could never’ i smiled “I just thought it would have been sooned” I added earning a chuckle.
Our attention was then caught by Kingo walking in and clapping “Finally, Geez it only took about 7000 years” to which i laughed and druig looked away as his face turned  a vibrant shade of red.

All I Ever Wanted
Gil has spent the last few hundred years caring for Thena and although he cherishes her he hasn't been anywhere in a very long time. They have their home away from everyone else in self imposed exile and he loves it with her but he's seen the world and just once in a while he misses it.
He orders some travel brochures just for fun and Thena finds them while he's looking at them.
She takes one before he can hide them and flips through it. "You should go." She say's and he feels guilty for even thinking about it.
"But what about you?"
She shrugs. "I'm sure we can find a way."
But Gil never actually thought to take it seriously, sure it would have been nice but his place is here with Thena and he wouldn't dream of leaving her on her own.
Still, when he looks down at the colorful brochure for Fiji he feel just a little longing.
Thena follows his eyes and while she can be hard to read at times he knows she's thinking hard. "I'll think on it." She say's.
He laughs a little awkwardly. "Ah, it's alright." He say's. "I don't need to go anywhere."
He has missed seeing the world, just a little but he doesn't want to leave her. His life here with Thena has become the normal and they need each other.
It's Thena however a week later who comes up with the idea.
They're sitting, trying a new take on an old brew he's been tweaking and listening to the radio which comes in with only a little static all the way out here. If he asked, Phastos probably could have fixed it.
"Druig." Thena say's at random.
He looks up. "What?"
"I know how you can take your vacation." She say's and she sounds pleased with herself.
Gil is a little uncomfortable, he feels guilty thinking of leaving her. "Druig?" He repeats.
She nods, seemingly pleased with herself. "He can put me to sleep, just for while you're gone but he can."
It sounds cruel but then maybe it isn't, she looks distinctly pleased with her own idea.
"Are you sure?" He asks, not wanting to try it if she isn't.
She nods and sits back comfortably. "You deserve a vacation." She say's, picking up the brochure in all of it's color and promise again. "Go." She holds it up for him to see the bright fish and reefs on the front. "Go and swim."
He sighs, relenting. "Okay, I'll try to get ahold of him." He say's, thinking that maybe Druig will refuse to come all the way to their little part of the world and then maybe the whole thing will be out of his hands all together.
Thena beams and seems genuinely pleased. She even opens the brochure and looks at some of the details inside.
"Will you be okay if I do this?" He asks.
She nods. "I could use a rest." She say's, closing her eyes for a second before opening and smiling secretively. "My own vacation." She say's.
He nods and knows that for all of their years in isolation together he will never understand her mind truly. Mahd Wy'ry has taken it's toll and she was never an open book before it. Thena. . . whom he loves. . . Thena whom he would do anything for.
This is her gift to him in a way so he does reach out to Druig, part of him hoping he'll say no and part of him very much hoping he'll say yes.
Getting a hold of Druig was not so easy. The eternal didn't exactly have a phone number to call but just the same he had some idea where the other was and after some well posted letters finally dis hear back.
Druig had agreed and after reading the letter several times Gil felt a small sense of excitement. It would be nice to go out, nice to see something different for a change and it would be nice to come back too.
Thena was happy when he told her.
"You do enough." She say's. "You deserve this."
He doesn't know about all of that but Druig say's he'll come and so he thinks instead of packing and what to take.
Thena is happy for him and seems pleased to know Druig is coming. She tells him to take pictures while he's on vacation and points out things in the travel brochures she thinks he should visit.
Gil packs and eventually Druig does arrive, he takes a plane and Gil doesn't ask where from but he seems in his own, quaint way happy to see them.
Gil makes a good dinner for the three of them and Thena laughs louds, clearly in a good mood. It's nice and he can remember the days before when all of their family had been together, Kino and Sprite, Ajak and Sersi. . . . Ikaris and Phastos. . . Makkari. . . days spent laughing and fighting together.
So man good times.
It's just the three of them and Druig can be a little moody but he's less so when it's just three and Thena is bright and happy and throwing back drinks like they actually have alcohol in them.
He smiles and for two days they take a little vacation together like this, just as a family.
He shows Druig around and the other is vague about his own past times, whatever he's been doing for the past few hundred years he keeps to himself but it's nice just the same.
The day comes however and Thena tells him she's at peace with it.
"I wouldn't mind a rest." She say's, smiling beautifully.
He holds her hand and and Druig lowers his gaze respectfully before she lays back on her bed and folds her hands over her stomach peacefully.
Druig's eyes turn gold and Thena's close and then after a moment his eyes are normal again and she's breathing deeply and gently.
"You'll stay here until I get back?" Gil asks, a little anxiously.
Druig nods. "I can." He looks around. "I suppose I'll make myself at home then."
Gil waves a hand invitingly but his eyes stay on Thena and her peaceful expression. "Take care of her." He whispers.
"She'll come to no harm while you're gone."
He thanks him and kisses Thena's brow before leaving her in Druig's care and drives off to catch a plane himself.
He knows Druig would never let anything happen to her, he's always been the most independent of them all but he trusts him and in reality he knows nothing can really go wrong like this. Thena is getting her vacation too and he hopes she has peaceful dreams. She doesn't always.
Fiji is beautiful and he get's his feet wet, see's clear waters and drinks fruity cocktails each bar claims is a specialty.
It's fun.
he might have enjoyed a little company but just the same there's no one to argue over what to do next with and he enjoys himself.
He swims and pays for a snorkeling trip, enjoying that too and he takes pictures for Thena to see when he get's back.
He thinks at one point of calling home to see how things are going but a part of him say's that's too much worrying and so he descides to trust Druig and let him take care of things.
He has a good time, he buys some souvenirs and eats good food, lounges on the beach for a few days and talks walks in the sand. He even makes friends with a Japanese couple on vacation for a night before they head off to see the next thing on their list and he goes another way.
The humans move quickly on their vacations, they have a limited time to see everything and most of them will never see more than a fraction of the world. Still, he hasn't been away from home in years and in some ways he feels similar to them but he's already seen more than they ever will and in the end he accepts that and just contents himself to relax. That's what vacations are for.
Hammocks and sand between his toes but he catches himself missing Thena, turning to her when she's not there.
That's when it finally feels like just a vacation. He has her to go back to and something to look forward to after the holiday.
He enjoys the warm water and the silly drinks and the beach shacks all the more for it. When he get's home he can tell Thena about it and when at last he heads for the place he's one of a million tourists in the world.
Just anyone.
He get's home and finds Druig has made himself at home and he hasn't been kind about it. He's spread out and there's a plate left out on the table even. Thena is still asleep and he opens the door to find Druid reading with his feet up.
"I'm back!" He calls.
The other Eternal looks up, only mildly put off his reading and shrugs. "I was a day off then." He say's.
"You didn't know I was coming?" He thought he'd been pretty clear.
"LIke I said, a day off."
He shrugs it off and takes his bags in. "Everything go okay here?"
"Absolutely."
He nods and looks around, Druig has gone through his things. He can tell but he let's it go and doesn't try to mind the things he can tell have been moved.
"You found things to keep busy?"
Druig gives him a shrug and rolls his eyes. "Not as much as I'd have liked." He said.
"Ah. .. well as long as Thena was okay."
"SHe was alright, good dreams, I promise."
He looks at Druig and doesn't try to understand the extent of his power. If he can give Thena a good rest then that's good enough.
"We should wake her." He say's.
Druid nods and goes into Thena's room. His eyes are gold again and Gil is fresh form the beaches.
Slowly Thena's eyes open and she sists up, blinking slightly and then yawning.
She looks around and smiles. "Are you back?" She asks.
Gil smiles. "Just got in the door.
She stretches. "I had a good rest." She looks at Druig briefly but if he's had anything to do with it he doesn't say.
"Let me get my things put up and I'll tell you about it." Gil say's, glad she's happy and glad she's had a good rest. She deserves it.
he smiles and puts his things up and Thena get's up like she only ever had a nap.
It's funny but that's how Druig's power can work and he accepts that. She's happy enough with it.
They eat another meal together and then Druid leaves, off to where he came from and whatever secrets he keeps.
Gil is happy to be home and he's happy he took his vacation.
Thena likes her souvenir and and she likes the pictures and in the end the best part is coming home to her.
He loves Thena and he can't imagine a life without her.
He needs a vacation in the end from being without her and being home again is a vacation all of it's own.

This is so random, but I’ve been rereading some of your old fics because I just cannot get enough, and I absolutely LOVE the Girl Interrupted AU you did. Gil was so so sweet with broken Thena and I’d love to see more of that if you get the chance 🥺 Love all of your works!
"Uh, hi," Gil blinked, startled as the door opened revealing Thena's brother Druig. He almost felt embarrassed by the rustling of the flowers he'd brought.
Druig didn't necessarily resemble Thena so precisely as he had the same 'look' about him. It was the sharp, vividly coloured eyes, the intimidating staring, the sculpted cheekbones. "C'mon, then."
Gil stepped into the modest townhouse with a sheepish smile. He had just barely managed to work up the nerve to actually contact Thena. She asked if he'd like to get lunch - she was rightfully eager to visit all the restaurants she'd been missing - and he had eagerly accepted.
Gil sat at the table while Druig poured himself a coffee, not bothering to offer one to Gil. He knew this was Druig's townhouse--an attached home he shared with Thena.
"Here."
Gil nearly jumped at the water jug smacked onto the table in front of him. It took him a second to realise it was for the flowers. "Oh, th-thanks."
"T's gettin' herself ready," Druig spoke slowly, letting his accent roll his syllables off his tongue lazily. He sat across from Gil, one hand on his mug and one hand in his hoodie pocket.
"That's okay," Gil shifted in his seat, tugging at his own jacket, "I'm early."
Druig let out a puff, somewhere between a laugh and a scoff. He leaned forward in his chair, "T told me she had some knight in shinin' armour in that hell hole. Guess that's you, since she begged me to give you 'er number before we left."
Gil blushed. He hadn't necessarily intended to be a knight in any kind of armour. He just...wanted to see her smile while she was there, even once. He looked down at the table. "Things certainly are boring there without her."
Druig eyed him up and down, and Gil tried not to shrink under the intensity of his stare. "How'd you end up talkin' with her? You served the food there, right?"
Gil nodded, toying with the zipper of his jacket. "I thought it was unfair that her treatments always made her late to lunch. She'd get the last of whatever I was serving all the time. She never complained, and she said it was still good, but...I just wanted to do something for her."
"So, I started making little 'test batches'. Just small portions so I could know how it would turn out when I made a hundred servings of it, y'know? Well, that was the excuse, anyway. I would make that test portion and save it just for Thena when I saw her. It didn't take her long to figure out what I was doing, even with whatever they were putting her through."
"Do you know what they put her through?" Druig asked sharply, and his tone did nothing to reveal whether or not he knew himself or if he was genuinely asking.
Gil frowned, arranging the flowers in the water jug to occupy his hands and keep his eyes off Druig's. "No, but she was obviously over-medicated. She was barely awake some mornings."
Druig muttered something directly into his coffee cup as he lifted it to his lips.
"Anyway, I kept on doing it, and then one morning...she was back there."
"Back where?" Druig looked up with a scowl.
"In my kitchen," Gil shrugged. "I don't know how she found her way in, but she was crouched down between the big 20 kilo potato bags. I didn't know what to do at first, but then security came up to the counter, demanding to know if I knew where the run off patient was."
"It was obvious they were looking for Thena. I'd seen her a few times, just wandering around the halls. They're not really supposed to do that there--there's always some activity or therapy or something to keep them under a watchful eye. But she'd chosen my kitchen as a safe place for her to hide."
Druig's eyes narrowed marginally, "and you honoured that?"
Gil wasn't offended by the younger man's skepticism. He obviously worried for every aspect of Thena's well being, and Gil couldn't blame him at all. "I told them I hadn't seen her, or I'd seen her in one of the outdoor sessions or something. Anything to get them away from her."
Gil smiled to himself, recalling the first time he'd gotten to see a smile that was entirely Thena, clear eyed and fragile. "She looked at me like I'd taken a bullet for her. I let her sit back there with me while I peeled potatoes and cut up carrots and did the dishes. Then she'd sneak back to her room like she was never missing."
Druig was quiet for a long moment, taking Gil in silently. Eventually, he set his hand down on the table. "When I visited on the weekends, she would tell me she had found a place to hang out through the day--where she wasn't bothered. She said it was her safe haven there. She didn't actually tell me where it was. Didn't want the security watchin' us overhearing, I guess. But I suppose it was your little kitchen cave she was talkin' about."
Gil's heart tightened in his chest, "I guess."
Druig set his coffee mug down, letting out a long, belaboured breath as he did. "Gil, I'll be honest; I was worried when T told me that she was goin' out with you today."
Gil supposed he didn't have any right to be offended by that. Thena had obviously been through a lot. He still had no idea why she was there in the first place, but clearly Druig did. Gil couldn't imagine how much it would bother him to know that Thena was left so vulnerable and then suddenly tell him she'd found an ally in what was essentially a prison for her.
"You seem nice enough, though."
Gil smiled, hoping to get one back in return. He didn't, but he was pretty sure he could see just a little bit of warmth in Druig's eyes, as hard as he might have been trying to hide it. He really was like Thena.
"But you make damn well sure she has a good time today," Druig grumbled at him as he leaned back in his seat again. "She comes home with anything but a smile, you'll be checking into an entirely different wing of that hospital."
"Druig, what are you saying to him?"
"Wow," Gil turned, immediately smiling at her despite being threatened by her younger brother mere seconds ago. He never saw her in anything but the standard issue clothes in the psych ward. Of course she had managed to be beautiful even then, but it did nothing to prepare him for how she would look now. "You look...wow!"
Thena went from glaring at Druig to giving Gil a small, almost shy smile. She brushed some hair over her shoulder before running her hands over her white cardigan and tight white skirt. "I guess you've never been able to see me looking like a human being."
"Come on," Gil chuckled, standing to greet her without even thinking about the flowers he had intended on presenting to her. His hand drifted to her elbow, as it had a few times before. "I know you probably didn't feel very human in there, but your face is just as beautiful there as it is here. It is yours, isn't it?"
Thena laughed quietly, his charm working on her better than any sensory techniques or blue rooms. Her eyes sparkled, and he realised he had never seen them quite so sharp and focused. They really did do her a disservice in her treatment there. "You're sweet."
"Well, I'm certainly trying," Gil shrugged, still hovering with their heads close to speak softly. He heard Druig clear his throat and stepped back just a half a step. "So, this place is really the best around for macaroni and cheese?"
"Second best," Thena amended, pulling her purse off the back of the chair. She gave him a wink, "yours may well still beat it."
Gil blushed even deeper.
"Ugh, go on, go on," Druig happily expressed his distaste at watching his sister flirt with a gentleman right in front of him. "Get out, you."
"Druig," Thena smiled at her grouchy sibling, heading for the door with Gil letting her go first.
"Oi, you better have a jacket with you," Druig sprang up from his seat, leaning his head out the hall after them.
Thena smirked at her brother, more and more of herself emerging from under the layers of frost. She raised a hand, tugging at the edge of Gil's, "Gil has one. I'm sure he'll lend it to me."
Druig faked a very loud gagging sound.
Gil chuckled as Thena pulled him out the door behind her. She tilted her head at him, her hair blowing in the light wind. He had never realised before that it was slightly wavy when it was washed and brushed properly. "Sorry, I'm just teasing Druig."
Gil took her hand in his, "sure, but I really am happy to lend it to you if you get chilly."
Thena pinched her lips together as another smile came over her. Her cheeks had a soft pink to them, although her eyes were teasing as she leaned herself against his side, "this is plenty warm for me."

‘Treacherous’ Masterlist | Main Masterlist
You made your way out to your apartment balcony, carefully maneuvering the tight space as you carried two plates filled with sandwiches and cups of soup. Druig was already sitting at the patio table. He’d been sitting there for a while scrolling on his new cellphone (or "cellular device," if you asked him about it).
You two had made a pitstop on your travels to see a few of the Eternals and Sersi had insisted on keeping in touch the modern way. She shoved a phone into Druig’s hands and, despite his protests, he quickly became fascinated with the technology. It was still a very funny sight to you. You were quite relieved you find you weren’t missing your phone, though.
"Do you have time to take a break from your phone for lunch?" You playfully asked as you placed a plate of food in front of your soulmate. He smirked and rolled his eyes before placing the phone on the table.
"I was reading about a farmer’s market that’s going to be not too far from here tomorrow," he explained. "We should check it out."
"Sounds nice," you replied and swirled your spoon around your serving of soup. It was evident that Druig missed the routine and community of the village. You noticed this pretty quickly after moving in together. He focused on very specific parts of living, such as cooking with particular organic vegetables. He was also very strict about security in your apartment. You never missed the protective eye he kept on, well, everything.
Living together like this was certainly an adjustment. Even though it wasn’t the first time you two had shared the same home, it felt very different now. You were coming together in one household on almost completely different terms. There was a willingness and dedication to this life that hadn’t felt as real or tangible in the village.
The place you lived in also felt very bizarre. It was a one-bedroom, cozy flat near the city but not in the heart of it. It screamed prime real estate to you. A place like this in New York would be mind-blowing. You didn’t know how Druig was able to obtain this flat but you also didn’t want to ask too many questions. All of the Eternals seemed to manage their livings on their own with ease and you would just go along with it for him.
"Are you okay, darling?" Druig asked, pulling you out of your wandering mind.
You nodded and took a bite of your sandwich. "That farmer’s market sounds really great. Hopefully, their growing standards live up to your demands," you joked.
"I’m sorry for thinking we should eat well," he replied, making your joking tone. "Perhaps that diner you took me to traumatized me."
You gasped. "You certainly weren’t complaining at the time."
He smirked. "I finally had you back. I was a little distracted, I wasn’t thinking clearly."
Your heart suddenly felt like it was mush in your chest. You didn’t know how he constantly managed to do that to you. It never felt like it would fizzle.
"There’s no need to woo me," you muttered as you felt your face get warm. "You already have me here."
"But that’s where you’re wrong. Because you’re here, I get to woo you every day, for as long as this world allows."
Now your stomach felt like mush. You had to force yourself to look away or else you would completely crumble under Druig’s gaze.
"An art gallery a few streets over is looking for an intern. I was considering applying," you said, changing the subject. You had to shift it—he could go on forever working you up.
Druig smiled at your admission. "That sounds wonderful."
"Yeah?" You sighed. "Do you really think so? I wasn’t totally sure, my creativity has been lacking for a while. I… I haven’t done much of anything creative since the village. I never got to finish the blanket." It was such an insignificant part of the village but its loss didn’t get past you. You had remembered that first spark that it ignited in you, that moment you wondered if you were right where you needed to be. It felt so silly to admit, so silly to have a knitted blanket hold so much weight, but its loss could’ve foretold so much.
"I’ll get you all the yarn you want," Druig responded with no hesitation. "You’ll get to make a hundred blankets. You can fill the entire flat with them."
You couldn’t help but laugh at his enthusiasm. "I make traditional art, too."
"Any materials you need, consider it done," he replied. "Do you want a studio? We could rent a studio."
You quickly shook your head, trying to get him to slow down. His tendency to come on strong and eager had yet to fully fade, but you were starting to think it never would.
"Let me start with the blanket and internship," you said. "Maybe I’ll get some paint sets as well. We can talk studios…at a later date."
"Sorry," he sighed. "I just want you to have everything. I… I don’t want you to regret this, not even for a second. I never want any more worries or fears running through your head."
You gave him a sympathetic smile and placed your hand on his where it rested on the table. You noticed he hadn’t touched much of his food, a seemingly uncommon occurrence for him.
"You can’t stop me from worrying, but I can assure you that, right here, right now, I’m very pleased with where I am in life. I’m happy in this apartment and I’m glad you’re the one I’m sharing it with."
You swore you heard Druig let out a sigh of relief but you ignored it.
"I think that’s all I’ve ever wanted to hear," he muttered. "I’m happy as well."
"Thank gosh," you said as a smile you couldn’t contain spread its way onto your lips. "Now, we should finish our lunch. I believe I was promised yarn."
"Anything for you, my beautiful, beautiful soulmate."

✧. In Every Lifetime ✧. Chapter 2 - The Kingdom of Attica
✧.* word count: 4.8k (yes I did get carried away) ✧.* warnings: mentions of suicide, terrible geography on my part, a lot of Greek Mythology details and tidbits for you nerds ✧.* genre: Angst? Cliffhanger ending // NSFW only cause of the death part
nav // marvel m.list // series m.list // ko-fi
Series summary: Druig had always thought you were a curious individual, always muttering something under your breath and always being able to save other people’s lives. He would’ve never thought you were more curious than he ever thought possible.
PS THERE ARE NOTES AT THE END THAT EVERYONE SHOULD READ FOR CONTEXT ON THE CONFUSING PARTS!! After eradicating the threat in Babylon, Ajak thought that leaving the city painted in memories of you would do Druig some good, all the while he laments on the memories of the two of you.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Human beings are mortal. Healing took longer, they felt more pain, and most importantly, they aged. Their bodies rot and turn to dust as they wither and die. The Eternals knew this. As far as the humans were concerned, they could only help them live until their own bodies eventually killed them. Death, was a part of human nature. However, this allowed their lives to become more precious.
Yet, that made it even more unfair that in such a short time, Death took you away from him.
However, as human after human dies, time still moves on.
And time did move.
Druig took his time moving on, however. With all the time in the world, he would take his sweet time savouring the moment you gave him. Lamenting for a moment, about what could’ve pushed you to do such a thing. You, the oddest human he’s ever met, yet, the kindest.
There is a part of him that wishes he had heard what you whispered before you plunged yourself into the cold hands of Death. Maybe he would have gained a little more insight into why you did what you did. Also, why his powers did not work on you.
As a side note, he didn’t tell his fellow Eternals about that little part of you. At least initially. You were a close friend to all of them, though particularly close to Druig. He didn’t want to plague their minds with questions that plagued his own when they were grieving.
Though eventually, he did so. He took his time, and they took theirs. Then, the questions started to pop out. Questions he knew he couldn’t answer by himself. Questions he thought the rest would be able to help him answer.
How wrong he was.
“What do you mean you couldn’t control her mind?” Ikaris asked his brow furrowed in confusion as he stood straighter, with both hands crossed over his chest.
“Exactly that, I couldn’t control her mind. What part of that statement confuses you?” Druig’s accent came off stronger as he shot back with malice.
It was only natural for any kind of interaction between him and Ikaris to be filled with poison and irk. It came to a point where it would’ve been odd if the two of them didn’t constantly butt heads. He remembered how the sharp interactions between him and Ikaris were much more mellow when you were still here.
“Druig, didn’t you say you could enter her mind in the past?” Ajak stepped between Druig;s and Ikaris’ line of sight. “I did,” he answered, “I only tried it once, but I couldn’t make her step away from the ledge. As if something was blocking me.”
“Blocking you?” This time Sprite was the one who spoke out, mostly out of confusion and not a real question directed at him. Druig only nodded in response as the others mulled over at the new piece of information provided to them.
He remembered the first and only instance where he read your mind. He and the others were just about to venture outside the city walks to look for an escaped Deviant. When you had asked if he would go to a specific area outside. At first, he said he didn’t know, seeing as how they would be following the Deviant’s tracks.
When seemed to deflate, Druig asked you what made that specific area special, when, if he remembered correctly, was just an arid desert. You shook your head and assured him that it didn’t matter. It was then that he, at the time, did something he thought was harmless.
He entered your mind to find out the answer to his question himself. Fully intending on teasing you about it afterwards, reminding you that he had powers. Sure, it was a breach of privacy, but again, he didn’t think much of it at the time.
Well he got his answer, a rare flower grew there. Blooming only this season. A flower you haven’t been able to find anywhere else and you wanted desperately.
In return for his answer, he was met with your frightened expression.
Wide eyes with stiffened body posture, as if what he did angered you so.
Druig remembered your shaky voice as you asked if he had seen anything he shouldn’t in your head. From the shock of it all, and in a desperate attempt to calm you down, he spoke the truth, no amount of teasing or malice in his tone.
That day, before he went out to hunt for the Deviant, you had made him swear to never go into your mind ever again. Something that, had you not been someone so special to his heart, he would’ve taken with malice. But because it had been you that asked, he agreed.
The rest of the day, you had grown so cold to him that, for once in his life, he felt guilty for using his power. He remembered returning from the hunt with the flower in his hand, using it as an outlet for an apology. The same flower you tended to right after you had shared your first kiss with him.
Seeing the terror in your eyes was enough for him to never look into your mind again, lest he wanted you to hate him.
Though, that didn’t matter now anymore, did it?
“Did she ever act odd to you?” Phastos asked. Druig lamented on the best way to answer such a question. In truth, yes, you did act odd a lot of the time. Despite your age, you had the intelligence alike of someone not your age.
Then there were your tiny odd quirks. Again, how your plants were still able to grow, albeit slower, in the dead of winter. How you healed quicker than most humans, even if broken bones didn’t take days to recover. You healed cuts and bruises in a significantly faster rate than he would expect form a normal human.
You seldom, if ever, got sick. When your gashes and cuts were dirtied, there was never a time where you were hit with an infection.
During the days when you were still with him. Druig chalked up your interesting healing to your luck. Stating in his mind that you must’ve just been lucky and he shouldn’t question it too much if he didn’t want to jinx it.
But now that you were gone. Those questions ran rampant through his head.
He remembered the time you were stabbed by a thief, shielding a man from the blow. He remembered the way his heart dropped, thinking you would surely die from the amount of blood you had lost. Only to be met with laughter and banter when you woke up in the doctors.
A week later, you were tending to your garden and practising your dances as if you hadn’t just experienced a life-threatening event.
Now that he thought about it, you weren’t very, human.
Physically, you had to be. After all, you died. You fell to your demise and your heart stopped the moment your bones cracked from the impact. Despite this, there was one possibility.
You could’ve been a human with powers. There was now ay someone like you, who’d jump at the first sight of danger to rescue someone, live that long. You had survived a dozen too many life-threatening events.
Though it was definitely a mystery. To him and to the others.
Once more.
Time passed on.
The memory of you and your supposed powers lingered in everybody’s minds. Being brought up every once and a while. But they had to move on from the past. You were dead, there was no way in calling the dead off the grave. Not to mention the fact that they had a job to finish.
Destroy the Deviants, return to Olympia.
Druig still cherished you though. He held dear to his heart the short time you and he spent together. Despite the fact that your very existence was shrouded with mystery he didn’t see at the time when his eyes were covered with rose coloured lens.
As Babylon grew and flourished without the ever-looming threat of the Deviants. The Eternals moved on to the next kingdoms and cities. They explored other flourishing lands under the threat of Deviants. And their next stop? The great large land of what is in the far future will be known as Greece.
Right now though, they were simply going to a small Kingdom with the name of Attica. A Kingdom located in Southern Central Greece.
Not that Druig really cared. Thena on the other hand, loved the entirety of Greece, war and all. Gilgamesh had mused that it must’ve been due to the way the Greeks practically praised the ground where Thena walked on. Prophesizing that she was sent by Athena herself.
They hadn’t been to any part of Greece in quite some time, but now that the Deviants had come back to the land, no doubt due to the Greeks’ growing intelligence. The Eternals make their long-awaited return.
On their journey there, Druig came across a flower he had never thought to see again. There growing from the ground, right outside a temple on the edge of Attica, grew a beautiful, familiar, flower. White petals with tiny yellow ones crowning its middle. He knew the flower.
It was that same flower he used as an apology.
Seeing it brought old memories back to him. It brought a sense of bittersweet sadness. Wanting to keep his uncaring demeanour, he looked around to see the other Eternals walking about; thinking none of them was paying attention to him, he softly picked the flower from the ground and went to pocket it.
“I didn’t know you liked flowers, Druig.” Druig quickly stopped himself from pocketing the delicate flower, masking his surprise when he heard Ajak’s voice behind him. He opened his mouth to reason why he wanted the flower when she spoke again, cutting him off, “You don’t have to explain.” She chuckled.
He rolled his eyes as a relaxed smile made its way onto his expression. She looked at the flower Druig was holding, her eyes observing its petals.
“The narcissus flower,” she hummed to herself. “You know, here, these flowers represent Persephone.” Ajak explained. Usually, Druig would have stopped her before she could continue. Noting on how he didn’t need to know the lore of imaginary gods the humans’ created.
But realizing Ajak knew quite a bit about a flower that clearly meant something to you made him intrigued. He wanted to learn more about your interest. If not for himself, but to feel, perhaps, more connected to you, over the grave.
“They say it was the flower Hades used as a lure to abduct Persephone so that he could wed her. Nowadays, the flower represents eternal love, beauty, and,” Ajak paused. Clearing her throat as if the word was stuck in it. Druig quirked his head to the side in confusion. “An early death.”
He chuckled dryly at the coincidence.
“How fitting.” He bitterly responded before pocketing the flower and catching up with all the others. Leaving Ajak, to sigh.
It would take an idiot to not be able to see that Druig was still hurting. Even after all these years, he still seems to remember ever last second of interaction with you. The mind reader might benefit from moving away from the last remnants of what was left of you by leaving Babylon, Ajak hoped. Perhaps, it was time for him to move on.
Just like all of them had suspected, once they arrived at the city’s centre. Word quickly spread about the oddly dressed visitors who came into the city moments after a large flying object was seen in the sky, which they didn’t know was the Domo. All speaking a language foreign to the native tongue of the locals and foreigners from trading zones.
It didn’t take long for the many historians, philosophers, and librarians quickly gathered their wit to inform the King on who they were. They came up with old texts, created by generations before them. Dictating the Eternals’ glory and battles against the monsters, especially, Thena’s.
It didn’t help that they killed a Deviant whilst all of this was unfolding, in front of many Atticans and otherwise. Making everyone truly realize that these were the people written by their ancestors, coming back to rescue them.
Popularity, soon followed.
With the King inviting them to a large banquet held under their name in his palace later that night. His people tried to tend to anything the Eternals could ever want. Asking if they needed anything every few minutes. The academics questioned their technology, their life, their physiology, everything. The heroes and soldiers were even worse.
It was rather stifling, especially to Druig. Who didn’t care much for popularity nor the love of the people around him. Despite this, the others were able to deal with it much easier. Especially, Thena, who unlike everyone else. Basked in the attention, she grinned as children swarmed around her. Asking her if she was Athena herself, only for their mothers to shut them up, afraid of divine wrath.
Even Sprite, ended up decorating the roofs of people’s houses with images of the war stories the soldiers told.
So, it wasn’t a surprise that they ended up split up. Each of them doing something somewhere, agreeing to meet later in the night after the King’s banquet back in the Domo. Leaving Druig and Makkari alone in a quieter part of the large city.
Even then, academics followed them around. They questioned about the language he and Makkari spoke. Not familiar with the sign language nor the English language, that in the future, will become the norm. Though Makkari could quickly leave the area, a part of her felt sympathy to Druig who would surely be scolded by Ajak if he hypnotized everyone to leave him alone.
It was then that, all of the sudden, someone tapped both their shoulders, causing them to turn around. There in front of them, stood a woman. With the way she was dressed, Druig assumed she was a priestess at a temple. Perhaps Demeter’s or Artemis, thought he colours of her robes were much darker than the pure white usually adorned by priestesses.
The shawls that usually sat on priestesses’ shoulders sat atop of her head, covering a large portion of her face. Allowing them to only see her smile.
“Excuse me; myself and a few others offered your friends some solace and rest in our temple. Would you like to join them?”
Though it was a polite invitation, Druig could read between the lines. The young priestess was offering them a place to rest away from all the philosophers, academics, historians, and the like from bothering them. After all, in normal circumstances, the temples were a sacred place.
None of them would dare follow him or Makkari inside.
Regarding the offer, both of them excused themselves as their audience threw the priestess a sharp glare. To which she responded with a sweet smile. Druig noted how realization seem to cross their faces and immediately they shrank back into their seats, regretting the malice they shot at her.
As she led the two of them to where the rest had gathered, she spoke, “I must apologize for our people’s excitement for your arrival. We had believed that the Gods would send us warriors to save us from the monsters. They assumed those warriors are you.”
At this statement, Druig couldn’t help but let his mischievous nature take over. “Do you not think so?” he asked. Signing the entire conversation to Makkari so she could still understand their conversation.
He saw a fond smile on the priestess’ face under her hood before responding, “No, you weren’t sent by the Gods. This I know,” she turned to them, stopping in her tracks. “But you did come here to defeat those monsters, haven’t you?”
“You’re right on the last point,” Druig couldn’t help but want to drawl out the conversation longer. A sense of weird longing in his heart. “But how are you so sure we weren’t sent by your Gods? The locals seem to believe Thena was sent by Athena herself.”
She laughed at that, “If you were truly sent by the Gods, or at least Thena by Athena. I would know.” She turned and continued the walk.
Before Druig could ask more what she meant by that, the three of them had arrived at their destination. It was a distance from the markets which allowed the busying noise not to interrupt their rest, but close enough that they could walk back to civilization.
In front of them stood a vast temple. Beautifully carved, with marble pillars and stairs. In the middle of it lay an ample enclosed space. On the steps, Sersi and Ikaris stood awaiting their arrival.
“I was wondering where the two of you were. Come in, the King came by half an hour ago, he agreed to have the banquet here instead of the busy palace.” Sersi chuckled. “And how did he even agree to that?” Makkari signed.
Ikaris was the one to respond. “Well, not easily. Though, she helped.” He gestured towards the priestess who shook her head with a smile. “The King seems to listen to you.” he shrugged.
“Lucky me I suppose.” Was her only response, “Well then, I shall take my leave. I hope you enjoy the meals we’ve prepared for you, Druig, Makkari.” The priestess bowed her head in respect before slinking away to the interior of the vast temple.
It was at that moment that Druig realized something. He doesn’t remember telling the young priestess his name. Not only that, he remembered distinctly in their last trip there, his name was not written in any of the texts. Unlike Makkari, who, though never told her name, would understand why the priestess knew of it. How then? How did she know who he was?
It seemed Makkari noticed this too, as while they made their way inside the temple, she signed to him. “I didn’t think you told anyone your name here?”
Druig stayed silent, letting both of them lament in their confusion over the odd priestess who seem to know more than she lets on.
He lets those thoughts wander to the back of his mind when he entered the temple. Choosing instead to observe the great architectural wonder around him. The ceilings crept into the sky like never ending beams, the top littered in dark paintings. As he made his way into the middle of the temple, a structure stood tall and proud.
It was a statue of a tall man with a large beard and long curly hair. He held a staff in one hand and on the other was a chain, tied to a sitting three-headed dog beside him.
Hades.
This was a temple for hades. One of the few in the Pantheon he cared to remember. Despite this, a temple standing this grand and large confused him. The Greek s honoured the God of the Dead through their funeral rites rather than temples and offerings.
It hit him now that, the priestess leading them must’ve been a loyal servant of Hades, and she had mentioned there were others like her. That fact itself, was as equally perplexing.
Walking past the statue and the middle of the entrance, he didn’t realize how substantial the interior actually was. From the outside, whilst it did look big. It was nothing compared to the sheer size it was inside.
The room with the statue continued further back, acting as a large hallway. It had small tables and chairs beautifully crafted and a fountain with running water. The hallway of an entrance room ended with a large, ornate-looking white door, which he couldn’t be bothered to wonder how to open. On either sides of him were doors to another room. They were simpler in design than the one at the end of the room.
One of them he suspected to be a place where people would offer and pray.
The other was already opened, showing the others inside with a large table in the middle filled with food and drinks.
Druig entered the room, noting to explore the large temple later on.
The day proceeded as it usually did. With no sightings of the Deviants, therefore right now, the Eternals could rest and talk amongst themselves. Indulging on delicious foods and fruits provided by the King and the locals. Who, actually did pay them a visit. Though, he wouldn’t stay for very long though, an hour at most, excusing himself as he had things to tend to.
It would be a few hours before they’d retire back to the Domo to sleep. Then tomorrow, they’d wake and search the lands for these hiding Deviants.
Druig, though, was somewhat distracted. The hooded priestess entered the room several times, putting more food and drink on the table. Never staying, unlike her fellow priestesses who listened to stories and flirted with everyone else regardless of gender.
One thing he found quite curious too was the way the King acted around her when he still dined with them. Druig didn’t want to believe Ikaris at first when he said the King listened to her, after all, she was a mere priestess, and he was the King. They’re known to be quite self-centred. The King acted familiar with the priestess.
She chatted with him and even seem to scold him at times when he would speak too loudly. There was a fondness in the way they interacted.
Another curious thing was the way she wouldn’t meet Druig’s gaze, nor interact with him.
She avoided filling his glass, letting the others do that whilst she filled every other person’s glass. Then there was the topic of her voice. There was a familiarity to them. It made his eyebrow quirk the first time he heard it. Causing him to want to drawl out what little conversations they had with one another.
But now, hearing it more often, even hearing her silent laughter as Kingo told a joke to the entire room. He couldn’t help but feel… warm?
He leaned towards Phastos who stood beside him. “Is she familiar to you?” Druig asked.
Phastos looked around the room to see who his friend was querying about. When his eyes landed on the hooded priestess just about to leave the room. He shrugged.
“The hooded one?” He asked almost unbelievingly. “She’s the head of the temple, the others say she’s not around as often as she is now. Said she travels around for business and the like, you probably saw her in passing.”
Druig squinted as she made her way outside the room, her smile dropping when she was outside everyone’s line of sight. He didn’t believe Phastos’ words at all. It wasn’t a good enough explanation.
So, before he left, Druig jabbed at the man, “For someone who’s supposed to eb the smartest among us, I didn’t think you could come up with something so unbelievable.” Phastos’ eyes grew wide and his mouth opened in shock as he stammered out a response, one Druig could not hear as he was already leaving the room.
Knowing he wouldn’t be able to rest easy tonight without solving this small mystery of his, he pushed himself off from the pillar he was leaning on and walked towards the doorway. Ignoring Phastos’ question on where he was off to.
When he stepped outside, he realized he didn’t know where she went.
Druig reasoned that there was no way she could go back outside. The temple, though near enough to reach the markets with a walk, was still isolated. In addition, it was quite dark outside, making travel a fool’s errand. Therefore, she must’ve been in the temple itself.
It shouldn’t be difficult to find her. Though the internal part of the temple was separated into four rooms, the middle with the statue, the left which he just left from, the room closed by an ornate door, and the one he was facing right now. The one he was sure was where the offerings were made.
The room itself, except for the one with the ornate door, he wasn’t so sure about that one, was open. There wasn’t any other structure to obstruct the view of anyone in the doorway from seeing everything else in the large rooms.
Finding one priestess in a relatively empty temple, seeing as how the others were still indulging themselves with his friends, shouldn’t be too challenging.
Surely, she must have been going to offer something to her God. So that was where he went in first.
Druig opened the door in front of him, immediately being greeted with the sweet soft smell of freshly picked flowers. The room was smaller than the ones the rest were eating in; though thinking back to normal sized temples, it was still quite a huge area.
There was a smaller version of the statue in the entryway in the middle back of the room, though it was still almost the height of Druig himself. Surrounding the statue, on its feet, were various trinkets, flowers, and even money.
In front of the statue, kneeling, was the woman he was looking for.
Her back was to him but he could already tell the hood was still secured to cover her face. Seeing her position, she seemed to be praying. Something to add to the growing list of oddities about this woman.
Being a priestess to the God of the Dead was one thing. Praying to him, was a whole other thing he didn’t think any Greeks were willing to do. You see, the Greeks tended to try not to take the attention of the God who governed over the dead too much. Lest they want to accidentally invoke the wrath of him or any of his souls.
Druig wanted to question her, but respecting her religion, he waited till she rose from her kneeling position. Showing him that she was finished praying.
“What is your name.” he wasted no time in trying to figure out who she was. She appeared surprised by his sudden appearance, quickly turning to meet the other person in the room with her.
Though, it only took mere seconds for her to go back to normal, an easy smile on her face.
“Shouldn’t you be enjoying your time with your fellow Eternals?” I’m sure you’ll have your hands full dealing with monsters tomorrow.” Checkmate.
Not only was she avoiding his question, she said something that basically cemented the fact that she knew more than she let on. “Little priestess,” he practically purred with threat as he made his way closer to her, “Only my friends and I know what we’re called.” He paused, “And I don’t think I recall ever telling you we’re called Eternals.”
She was practically frozen on the spot at this point.
“Well, I- I must’ve heard it in passing, excuse me.” As she tried to duck away from him towards the doorway he cut her off. “I didn’t take you to for the secretive type.” He sarcastically remarked, as he practically blocked the doorway with his body, his elbow resting on the wood of the door. “I’ll ask again, what is your name?”
He saw how her breath hitched against her throat at the closeness, all before she answered. “Kore.”
Perhaps, she thought it would be a satisfactorily answer, as another easy smile, albeit a more nervous one, graced her features.
“Kore?” he repeated. Watching as she nod, her features slightly twitching, as if she heard something. “I didn’t think anyone here would be dumb enough to name their child after one of your Goddesses.”
Druig heard her gasp as he moved his face closer to her. It was meant to be a threatening gesture, but it almost felt natural to him.
“Unless,” he spoke, “You’re Persephone herself, disguised as a human.” He remarked. It was supposed to be an offhanded comment, but the way she reacted made him even more perplexed. Her entire body stiffened and her mouth hung agape.
Now, Druig knew a lot of things; having lived thousands of years, he was much more knowledgeable than humans could ever be. But, he knew better than to think he had all the knowledge in the world. And with the way she acted after his remark? He started to question his own mind.
Was there a chance, that she was truly Persephone? Did the myriad of Pantheons the humans created actually exist?
“Excuse me.” She immediately tried to force her way out of the room, her entire body colliding with Druig as she tried to move him out of the way.
At the sudden movement, Druig grasped her arm. The sudden halt caused her hood to fall out of place. Revealing her face to him.
His heart, stopped.

Hi there! Red here andddd I'd just like to add on information here in case anyone reading this isn't very familiar with Greek history on mythology. First off, I'm too lazy to search up the geography of old Greece so, I literally don't know if Greece was a country back then or not BUT ATTICA IS A REAL PLACE! Secondly!!!
It’s very rare to see a temple dedicated to Hades and even more rare to see worshipers of him, not because he’s not respected or anything (he’s VERY respected since he’s the God of wealth too) but it’s more of like, I’m not going to jinx myself or other people around me to an early death.
They usually give respects to him during burials. But, for plot sake, let’s assume there are temples for Hades and he has devoted worshipers. How the temple was allowed to be so huge will be an important detail later on.
Right this whole fanfic is just an excuse for me to nerd out about Greek Mythology, culture and etc. EXTRA BTW LMAO Any time the reader and any of the eternals are talking, they're talking in the local langauge of the area. The Eternals speaking English is like a foreign futuristic language.
