This is just a reminder that I do not allow any reuploads of Art Heist, Baby! onto any other platform. Art Heist, Baby! lives on ao3 and ao3 exclusively.

Really upset to find out that people who have messaged me privately on here asking to upload Art Heist onto other platforms just went ahead and did it anyway when I politely asked for them to keep my work on ao3. Even after I explained why I wasn't comfortable uploading it to other sites.

I could go into the details of how sites like wattpad are for-profit companies and are naturally inclined to favor whatever makes them the most amount of money even if it's at the expense of writers and I could go into my own issues with those sites capitalising off of writer's creative output/hobby etc. etc. (not to mention the reuploads were not tagged and didn't include chapter warnings at all 🤠) but the point is I shouldn't have to.

You (in a very general but also pejorative sense) should respect my decision to keep Art Heist on ao3. I realize that uploading something to the internet means that I put myself at risk of losing control of my content but come on, y'all. It's in my pinned post and I've told people multiple times to not reupload my fic anywhere else. It's my fic, and my writing, and I don't think it's too much to ask to keep it to ao3.

Anyway, I've already reached out to the people who have posted my fic elsewhere and corrected the issue, but I thought I would go ahead and make it abundantly clear that Art Heist, Baby! is for ao3 and ao3 only in the hopes that this issue doesn't arise again!

Dont’ Like, Don’t Read

or DL; DR

You are responsible for curating your own online experience.

If something upsets you, makes you angry or queasy or triggers you, stop reading/looking at it. Avoid things that might make you feel that way.

Learn to use the Sort and Filter function on AO3, especially the Exclude tools.

On social media, block and mute accounts / tags / words when necessary.

If you hated something, you don’t need to tell that to the creator or start pointing fingers at them publicly.

The Back button is free. Use it.

Addendum:

Yes, for this to work, creators need to tag their works accordingly, so that people know what sort of content they are about to engage with and can nope out if necessary.

before bed, let out all that might be weighing on ur mind onto a piece of paper, so that then u can get the beauty rest that you deserve. before u go to sleep ur subconscious is wide open. i highly recommend listening to subliminals/affirmation tapes while you sleep. or before going to bed just think thoughts in ur favor.

manners

lack of manners and failing to treat people right and with kindness literally makes you ugly. and thats not hot. so treat others the way that you'd wanna be treated.

the main idea of this post is that in order to become the most glamorous version of urself u need to tap into your own power. dont play around with ur own life and take yourself seriously. tapping into yourself and your mind is the most powerful and important thing that u can do for yourself.

with all that being said WATCH HER ICY UNIVERSITY SERIES. i remember watching it when i was a little younger and i loved it and i STILL love it and apply what i learned in it ✨

re: that last poll i reblogged, one of the reasons i find both mpreg & a/b/o fic kind of morbidly fascinating after many years in fandom (despite not liking either) is how these kinds of fic often function as a way of mapping the tropes and gender dynamics of cis/heterosexual romance onto (almost always cis) m/m stories without going so far as to gender-swap either character

like, this is pretty obvious with mpreg centered on cis men, which is often just the application of common pregnancy-related romance tropes to cis m/m couples (note: im excluding depictions of trans masc pregnancy from my discussion here because i just think its a separate convo with its own nuances, and because i think much of the fic im describing here generally draws from ideas about cis men & women without much consideration for transness). however its ESPECIALLY apparent if you look at common a/b/o tropes in m/m fic. namely, the fact that an a/b/o universe is generally a world in which irl gender essentialism and the resulting sexual power dynamics between (cis) men and (cis) women are able to be applied to relationships exclusively between cis men-- with one partner being dominant, often physically stronger and aggressive, and socially privileged for this (perceived or real) biological superiority, and the other partner (who is generally the one able to bear children) being sexually submissive, weaker, and thus socially disadvantaged or oppressed as a consequence.

furthermore, something EXTRA interesting to me is that in this type of fic these power dynamics are very frequently not just social constructs (the way they are in real life-- pls dont misunderstand me and think im saying women are inherently biologically submissive to men irl or something), but rather almost always depicted as a biological reality within the world of the story. this type of au (at least in m/m dominated circles) offers a way of exploring and depicting what are basically misogynistic tropes without ever naming it as misogyny or involving women at any point. and i'm not trying to make a moral judgement here--i just genuinely find it very interesting that one of the main ways that misogynistic sexual dynamics (and, frequently, the violence resulting from such dynamics) gets explored in fandom spaces is through the development of an alternate biological and social reality in which cis men experience a mirror of those power dynamics, often turned up to 11 via in-universe biological essentialism. it strikes me as a way to engage with irl misogyny and its role within relationships with a certain amount of emotional distance, for better or worse. on one hand, it might be used to explore this imbalance of power without ever needing to depict misogynistic violence happening to female characters, but on the other hand also often offers a way to engage with romantic tropes steeped in irl gender essentialism in a way that is justified within the fiction of the universe and therefore do not need to be considered as critically

now i dont think this alone justifies this trope's existence or popularity (i'm sure a large part of its popularity is people just thinking it's hot tbh, which is fine im not here to judge), and honestly i'm not interested in litigating the question of why people write or read this trope in the first place, but i AM continually fascinated by the degree to which heteronormativity is able to influence what are ostensibly depictions of queer relationships

in what universe is someone going to see a DNI that applies to them and think "this person is definitely someone im going to enjoy following and get along with". do you go on twitter and see nazis saying they hate trans people and decide to follow them out of spite? of course not, and literally nobody else does that either, even on the other side. hell forget DNIs, I get less conservatives in my notifs than I used to just by having they/them pronouns in my bio because they see it and go "ew, I'm not following them". people dont typically follow people theyre clearly not going to feel welcome around, a DNI is just another way to communicate that.

1 - you don't have to Get Along with someone to follow them. people can and will hate-follow or follow to annoy you, block evade, etc out of spite. some people will interact with you just because you told them, or people like them, not to.

2 - your experiences are not universal. nazis, terfs, bigots in general, they can and will follow and harass people they don't like online. this is spoken from my own experience as someone who has seen his transfem friends be followed and harassed by alt-right nut jobs online.

3 - "forget DNIs, I get less conservatives in my notifs than I used to just by having they/them pronouns in my bio" ← you're right. this is effective because the vast majority of people regardless of political stance or belief will only ever read your bio. not many people are going to jump through hyperlinks to read your DNI. if they don't like what they read in your bio, they'll just leave [or possibly harass you, if they're particularly malicious]. ergo, making a DNI is largely just for yourself and not at all a real, useful barrier people must pass through in order to follow / engage with your posts.

no one is stopping you from making a DNI. you can write a terms-of-service length novel of a Do Not Interact list, put it on its own Carrd and make it aesthetic and pretty with flair. you're completely free to do so and tell people to read it. a few will, sure.

however. the post you're referencing is specifically addressing the glaring reality that most people, regardless if they fit your DNI criteria or not, are simply not going to go out of their way to find and read it. abusive people aren't going to see "DNI abusive assholes" and be deterred because they themselves don't consider themselves abusive. this post, particularly what OP wrote, is saying how it's much more proactive to curate your own space through utilizing the block button and tag filters when you see things and people you don't want to engage with instead of trying to impose your personal boundaries on strangers online.

addendum // i don't really care if teens are making DNIs and being aggressively annoying about em. i remember the era of setting weird arbitrary rules in my developing years while i was forming Who I Was as a person. they're figuring out who they are and what their comfort levels are. i get it. it's the grownass adults that are hyper-virulent about DNIs that i worry about - and i'm not talking about when they're trying to establish an adults-only space with a stern "minors DNI".

note: what i'm talking about below, i am Not referring to literally illegal and harmful activities / content. just want to be clear.

now, i'm not saying you have to welcome and embrace the content you don't like, but it's important to challenge yourself and toe your comfort boundaries. if you over-prune yourself trying to be the bestest morally correct person, at some point you're going to start boxing yourself into this narrowed teeny tiny worldview. you may turn into the person you claim to have loathed, imposing personal beliefs and morals on others, and brandishing your DNI like it's a certificate of righteousness; not unlike how conservatives wave around religious scripture while pruning away LGBTQ+ rights because it goes against their morality. a few examples of this are topics such as: kink at pride, and the language discrepancies between the younger and older generations of the LGBTQ+ community - particularly in regards to self-identifying with words such as Queer and Dyke and Transsexual.

i probably derailed a bit here, i'm answering this before my caffeine's fully kicked in. if i vaguely worded something or yall want more elaboration on something, don't hesitate to ask

HERE YE ALL HIGH ROLLER'S HIGH ROLLER FANS

so for like, the 2 people paying attention to me talking about my "secret project" on my main blog, i hope you like the result, because my december project has been...

LOW BALLERS!!!!!!!!!

ive been quietly painting ducks and creating myself a trio of little guys over the last, hm, 2? 3 weeks?

i dont even rember. but ive been planning this for months, i just didnt have time around university to do it til now.

BUT i had so much fun with these. painting ducks is surprisingly fun and it all went really well! i think the only issue is the only hats i could get had a straw texture already applied.

i used silver for details, mostly because i forgot to buy white and i thought id see how silver looked so i could dodge trying to buy more paint at christmas, and it looked good on the first so i stuck with it!

for those curious: i used white racing ducks (means they dont squeak or squish, but i think thats ideal for a painting project) and plastic hats designed for dolls and crafts. and wine bottles toppers, according to the terrible names that these get on amazon. with acrylic paints and superglue to affix the hats down. they aren't waterproof, sorry to the belivers.

heres a turnaround for ya'll too, i added some goofy details like sparkles around the glasses and the hat. its a tragedy i couldnt get metallic paints for the hat.

i dont have the mental energy to put a comprehensive post together but like, "is your media analysis gender essentialist?" starter pack questions:

when i bring gender into this conversation, what assumptions am i making about women and men outside the text and how do those affect how i see the text?

what is the usage of gender as a lens adding or subtracting from the narrative? are there experiences depicted within the text that run contradictory to my reading? how did they get here, and why are they were?

what sort of experiences am i assuming as standard across the board wrt the audience or creators? can i imagine demographics that don't fall into that standard narrative and imagine an alternative reading of the text from that point of view?

am i assuming that certain experiences code men as feminine but not applying a similar rhetoric to women who do nontraditional gendered things?

am i suggesting, implicitly or explicitly, that there are universal experiences of gender? what does my analysis imply? are those implications ones i am comfortable having read into my words?

for some reason or another, you make your home in the same woods THE slenderman lives in; or perhaps it was the otherway around? regardless, it doesnt take long for you to become aware of one another....

okay but how funny would it be if you guys bonded over your annoyances over people collecting your stuff. people taking his pages, and people taking your art projects (at least the ones that are portable). like!

basic summary is that he and all other demon/most nonhuman creepypasta characters were made by zalgo in my funky au; basically to bring disorder and that kind of shit. but like in a "this is just a part of this universe's nature" way. thus making slenderman himself in my take the be a simple fact of life... thinks.. and he resents his own existence, i think. i mean how cruel is it that he was made to cause issues, in fact he cant live without it (eats people) but he was granted the ability to be able to grasp the complexity of morals and emotion. like thats fucked

anyways, theres that and him just naturally being reclusive! hell even his supposed "brothers" (splendor and trender, i refuse to touch the third one) hes still.. distant

basically what i mean to say is that you guys probably arent going to be.. outwardly close... if that makes sense. like hes not going to be very affectionate; so dont expect many familial... things... and its not often that he would seek conversation out... though

as i write that, if i recall correctly i did give him the vague craving of connection, and while i usually save that for traditional x reader stuff, i think this would still apply to found family stuff! so actually, i think he WOULD eventually start seeking your company out, just for the fact of having someone else to talk to who doesnt resent his existence the same way he resents his own

BUT. ok this is genuinely gonna sound crazy. but TO ME. PERSONALLY. dnp fic isnt rlly rpf WAIT HOLD ON HEAR ME OUT

like it is obviously it is fictional stories about real people thats what rpf is but i was in the lil phannie server talking abt like, for some reason so many fics just dont feel the same as rpf to me???? but i couldnt explain it????? like it felt like the people i was reading in these fics werent necessarily out of character but rather, in character of the specific personas dnp have put on over the years? if that makes sense? i think this is less true nowadays as dnp are just generally more themselves so theres more reality to build off of, but im talking like, 2012-2017 fics didnt rlly feel the same as rpf in a way i couldnt explain. and then someone likened it to wrestling fics and like, oh does that count as rpf cuz wrestlers (in like wwe and shit not actual wrestling competitions) are all playing characters, but at the same time they are real people and the matches are. maybe staged but theyre real in that they get hurt during them. so like going back to dnp, are people writing about the personas dnp have put on screen? in the same vein i feel like theres a lot of fanon (a headcanon thats so universally accepted it just becomes canon to fans) that have been applied to dnp thats kinda universal in a lot of fics, particularly at the Peak of phanfic where its like, there are some fics that are really good! but it doesnt feel like dnp, it feels like characters very heavily based on dnp with the same name and appearance. and again, it obviously still is rpf, but it feels different in my brain idk lol happy rpfing

Tbh the way fandom has the view of Gojo as either “hes not that powerful actually” or “he sees everything can do everything including travelling between dimensions” is kinda Gege’s fault? Its funny how jjk provides a lot of details into the nature of the cursed energy but the power level still feels a bit icky. The way Gojo’s powers are explained they are essentially applied mathematics and physics that are, usually, purely theoretical. I fucking hate quantum mechanics but unfortunately for everyone invovlved i am actively studying them so

So like technically he should be able to travel dimensions or into space or into the marianna trench and come out unscathed. The way teleportation works can be compared to the way we now know that black holes dont destroy information, but compress it. Considering the fact that blue and red work on the sheer fact that he creates an empty space and the universe rushes to fill it(which is genuinely a straight up impossible thing to do btw) and vice versa, he does technically have the strenght of a god. We dont even have a full knowledge of how the Six Eyes work, like okay they work thanks to seeing cursed energy. How the fuck then is he reading shit or typing on the phone with the blindfold on? That implies he sees perfectly well everything even if it doesnt have curse energy. Like when you go from his abilities he does seem like he can travel dimensions and whatever else. As fun as the Achilles and tortoise thing is, the fact that he can make it a reality effectively means that there is a shit ton of other things he should be able to do thanks to physics but i guess he needs a weakness (aside from being gay)

Which is FAIR overpowered characters aren’t good for a shonen narrative esp when they are on the side of the protagonist, it just feels sometimes like Gege gave him power over literal physics while forgetting that physics is like the thing that governs all. Genuenly. If you have the power to literally create an imaginary mass you are officially above all of the possible limits of the universe
