Adrienne loosely tugs at the collar around her neck as Poppy tries to fit it on her, "I am all for fashion statements and aestetics. But I never expected you would be into it..."
Nor did she expect thier next meeting to take a turn for the weird. Not that she was complaining, if it had to be anyone, it would need to be someone she respected.
"You seem like the practical kind of girl who would want function over looks, though. Maybe something to protect you from being picked up by the scruff."
Or maybe, shenis misreading the situation entirely as she often does.
Tumblr media
“You got enough money for that? I’m not letting you put me into your debt too, y’know.”
Tumblr media
“Relax, ‘Tuna. I’m not entirely broke.”
The opossum looks very worse for wear, only able to vaguely fit the gray collar around the other’s neck(???) with her tail.
Because both her forearms have casts and her face is very bruised and honestly it looks like she just got out of a very awful fight.
Tumblr media
“I thought it’d look good on ya! Sometimes a little fashion can go a long way.” Usually for anyone but herself. “Plus it’s a little ‘‘thank you’‘ gift for givin’ me all that money. I was able to put a bit of that into my daughter’s inheritance!” Like, a thousand nibbles, tops, but it hey that’s still pretty good!
She uses her tail to pick up the picnic basket she placed down, folding her arms against her chest. She gave the knight a warm smile.
“How’s it been, by the way? You want some brooberry pie? I made extras!”

INFO / PLACES OF INTEREST
Sparia (Spare-ee-uh) - Your homeland, a highly traditional kingdom. Ruled by a monarch, with you as the heir to the throne. Magic is expected to be used only in ceremonial settings, and most citizens have never left the island. This is your old home.
Sacred Sea - A sea of legend, the Sacred Sea has perpetually calm waters. Rumor has it that when the waves stir up, disaster is about to befall the neighboring lands.
Solador - Notable locations: Dawnholde Institute for the Arcane. The land is constantly under a solar eclipse for an unknown reason. Very little flora can grow here.
Ormrgrad (Or-mer-grad) - Home to many dragonkin and ruled by the Emperor and Empress. The Emperor presides over the north, and the Empress, the south. Notable locations: Ormrgrad City, the capital. On the border of the north and south regions. Caidrith was born in the city to the royal family.
Northern Ormrgrad - Snowy and mountainous, few dragonkin make their home here, but the ones who do are very resilient. Many true dragons live in the far north.
Southern Ormrgrad - The desert region of Ormrgrad. Most dragonkin live here, as well as ground-dwelling dragons. Oases with settlements are scattered throughout.
Leodosan Wilds (Leo-doe-san) - A sparsely inhabited area with few cities, the Leodosan Wilds are home to most earth and water elementals. The few fae that reside outside the Fae Wilds are mainly benevolent, however, the farther south you travel, the more hostile the inhabitants become. Cere lived here prior to coming to Dawnholde.
Entrance to the Hells - The cave that leads to the first layer of the Hells. Many lesser infernals live in the tunnel network.
Fae Wilds - Birthplace of all fae creatures, though not all choose to stay there. The land is brimming with magic and the capital city is Islahaer.
Islahaer (Ee-la-hair) - The capital of the Fae Wilds. Many elves also live here, in addition to the few remaining humans from the Lost City of Echoport. Desily hails from here.
The Tainted Lands - Notable Locations: The Lost City of Echoport. An old, plague-ridden human kingdom. Few creatures live here now, and most of those who do are in constant quarantine. Rycharde was training to be a knight before the city closed its gates.
Lake of Lucidity - The lake in which all rivers in the area flow to.
Defiant Deep - The northern sea, filled with ancient monsters and deep sea merfolk. Few ships that set sail here reach their destination.
Ocean of Benevolence - Notable Locations: Merdae (Mer-day). The warmer, southern ocean that many civilized merfolk call home. Includes the royal capital, Merdae. Most merfolk in the capital are very rich, but the farther away from the capital they live, the less they have. Merrick comes from a small town 10 miles from the city.
NOT ON THE MAP
Aiszuth (Ice-zooth) - A run-of-the-mill human city with a thriving criminal underworld. The governor may appear to maintain power, but the true power belongs to the necromancers of the Undercity. Finch comes from the most renowned lineage of necromancers.

People and Culture
The people of the hidden snow village are a small, silent, yet very proud community. They are not the most hospitable and take a long time to warm up. Having to save on precious air as there is not a lot of oxygen in higher altitudes, hidden snow citizens prefer to use as little words as possible. However, this makes their friendship the more valuable. Once you're considered a friend, you are their family as well. Humor in the hidden snow village is another interesting issue, as it is a rather crude and dry one. However, don't let the cold, uninviting attitude of the hidden snow people scare you off, as they are rather inquisitive. Gossip spreads like a wildfire here. Another fun fact: Fridges and freezers are only used in spring, why waste electricity when you can let your food cool in your backyard? This has led to very creative ways of building fences to protect your dinner from any stray polar bear... or neighbor. The hidden snow people is not one to celebrate many things, except Winter's solstice, which is also celebrated as the impending return of Spring. This spring is an artificial one, as huge heat generators are turned on to melt away the snow and ice.
Clothing and Cosmetics
The hair, regardless of gender, is almost always grown out, often times worn open or at least framing the face, as an additional protection against the cold. Hidden snow people have rather thick and luscious hair, and compared to other ninja nations, the most hair follices on an individual basis, evolution's trick against te cold. Hair care is very important for them, and learning how to braid your hair is a standard practice once you're old enough to brush your own hair. Clothes are worn in thick layers and rarely dyed, richer families making the exception. The ankles and feet are often wrapped in thick fur as cold feet make your entire body feel cold.
Tumblr media
Nature
Flora The entire country is covered in snow and glaciers, therefore only allowing for evolution's hardest soldiers. The main vegetation here are icy wastelands, some grasslands and tundra made up of various conifers. Native deciduous trees include birches and some willow species, and birch sap is often served as a drink in the Land of Snow. Another survivor from the village of snow are the lichens that cover the barren rocks, adding at least a little bit of color. There are also some moorlands that run through the country, but these are located outside the village and have hardly been explored.
One special flower that had made its way here is the dandelion, a flower with a high cultural status. Its bloom mirrors the change from short, buoyant spring to the icy, merciless winter. Its leaves are often harvested and can be eaten in salads or used in traditional medicine. (although this traditional medicine is only popular with hidden snow aunties nowadays)
Fauna
The Land of Snow was once densely populated by polar bears, but their numbers have dwindled since the Snow Village was founded, as they were often hunted for prestige. The most widespread mammals are reindeer and musk oxen, and the occasional lemming can be found in the dense ice deserts.
Birdlife includes corvids, gulls, albatrosses and the snow villagers' favorite bird: the puffin. These are strictly protected and are also very popular with children. In addition to these birds, loons, ptarmigans and owls also feel at home in the land of snow - sometimes even one or the other odd duck strays in. If you reach the hard-to-reach coastlines of the Land of Snow, you will often encounter seals and walruses. Around the coast, orcas also make the Arctic Ocean unsafe, which often does not suit the other native whale species (humpback whales, narwhals, belugas, sperm whales and blue whales). Fish in the Land of Snow include cod, shrimp, crab, halibut, redfish, char, turbot and salmon.
Domesticized animals
It's not uncommon for a hidden snow family to own their own sled dog as well as a herd of sheep, depending on where their home is located.
Tumblr media
Food
Fish and Other Proteins You know how it goes. Once you go fishing, your dinner is secured. This is the case for the hidden snow village as well. However, unlike Kirigakure, fish is not as extremely accessible as in Kirigakure, since fishermen often have to travel a bit before stumbling upon any fish. Popular protein options are reindeer, lamb and seal meat, which often times is frozen (duh), or brined. Smoking meats is also very common, since spices are not widely accessible here (resulting in a few... questionable food preparation decisions that the locals have come up with over time.) Carbs Although the hidden snow diet is rather high in protein due to carbs not being very accessible, wheat, buckwheat and potatoes are the most common source of carbs. The hidden snow country offers a wide variety of breads. Funnily enough, rice is seen as an "exotic" luxury carb. Fruit The best berries are grown in the Land of snow (and in the iron realm, but that deserves its own post). Most beloved berries include wild strawberries, currants, sea buckthorn, raspberries, blackberries, gooseberries and mulberries. Aside from berries, the hidden snow village also offers crunchy pears, apples and cherries. The fruit in the hidden snow country are very high in vitamin c, causing a rather sour taste, but also preventing any scurvy outbreaks. Any citrus fruits are a rarity here and can only be grown in greenhouses, making them very expensive, and not very tasty, in all honesty.
Tradition vs Modernity Nowadays, most foods that used to be inaccessible are now grown in large greenhouses. Most hidden snow citizens are not opposed to GMO foods, and in fact, embrace it. Most of the GMO foods are first cultivated in the hidden snow village before making their way to the market. Many youngsters prefer the modern dishes over the traditional ones. Traditionally, the hidden snow citizen always tries to make the most out of the food that they have, resulting in dishes such as blood sausage, blood pudding, brain (double fried to protect from any nasty prions) and many gelatinous foods.
That's all, folks!
Feel free to use these for your OCs, headcanons, fics, etc but it would be nice to give me credit c:

Sounds of Atandil
I initially shared part of the playlist in response to this ask, but I've realized I should just make a main post for it that I can keep updated as the series grows. The playlist is intended to go along with the Atandil series and includes one song per installment.
Tumblr media
1. Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis || Ralph Vaughan Williams, Hallé, Sir Mark Elder So as I mentioned in the summary, this is basically the theme for the whole series. It has such a breadth of emotion and beauty in it, and it makes me tear up almost every time. I love this piece so much. And consequently it's really fitting that it's also the primary one associated with Part 1, since that is sort of the flagship installment of the series where all the philosophical framework gets laid out.
2. Gravity || Ludovico Einaudi This piece captures so much of the movement from Grief in All Her Guises. It conjures up the movement of the river in the opening scene, the butterfly that began the Quenya lessons, the laughter around the fire at lunchtime, the sound of Finrod's voice as Balan experiences it moving through him on the hilltop, the overarching movement of the stars dancing overhead.
3. Child of the Troubles || Andrew Simon McAllister Tragically this one no longer plays on Apple Music or Spotify, but I linked to the artist's page in the song title where you can stream it. This one is the partner track to Unfriends and Belen's run-in with the Laiquendi.
4. The Fall || Hans Zimmer Just such excellent Fen of Serech vibes here, especially the 2nd half. I literally listened to this one on loop while writing Ye Shall Render Blood and it is the whole mood of that installment.
5. Solringen || Wardruna The whole piece works well as the right feelings for A Shuddering in the Air, but specifically the chunk beginning at 4:44 was the underlying inspiration for the way they deliver the "oath of parting" in the burial rites at the end.
6. Night || Ludovico Einaudi Appropriately named musical accompaniment for Here in Our Frailty, which takes place all throughout the Longest Night. Additional excellent vibes as that sometimes the warbly effect on certain notes reminds me of the haunting ice sounds that I listened to on loop for the Finrod-has-a-freakout section.
7. Flora || Ludovico Einaudi Ok so apparently half of this playlist is just Ludovico Einaudi, but that's because his stuff is great. The peaceful vibes of lying in a golden field while your crush drops a snowdrop flower on your face and flirts while completely clueless are all over this one, so it's the partner piece to A Heady Fragrance of Honey.
8. Into Dust || Mazzy Star This is my ultimate doomed mortal/immortal relationship song. The only explanation needed here is honestly to direct you straight to the lyrics. It even references fading. Absolute perfection and the correct level of abject sorrow for In Memory Untarnished.
9. Citizen of Glass || Agnes Obel This one is just Correct for Vassal somehow. I'm pretty sure it is this line of lyrics that solidified it for me: Some let go and some hold on / There is no mistake / If I could wash all ill away / Tell me would you stay? But also it just has all the right feelings to it, if that makes sense.
10. Time Escaping || Big Thief Happy road trip music for the boys! Or. Well. Extremely depressing road trip music for the boys given the context and the song title and the mortality and um...god can't these two be happy for one second. Happiness I guess, much like the installment this goes with, is A Shifting Mirage.
11. The Path of the Fossils || Ludovico Einaudi He's back, folks! As I said - apparently half the playlist. But anyway, I love the recurring waves of impending emotion that continuously come back throughout this piece. It works so well with the barrage of feelings that both Finrod and Beren work through in Many a Dreadful Path. And in addition to that, the title plays very nicely with the shelf of memories and Beren's recollection of Emeldir telling him, “Know the path your forefathers set so that in such grounding you may see where your own should diverge.”
12. Númenor || Bear McCreary I have...complicated feelings re Rings of Power (to put it mildly), but thankfully those have not killed how much I love this piece from the soundtrack. In fact, it's so thoroughly associated now with Balan's arrival in Nargothrond in Children of the Sun that I almost forget it very much belongs with something else.
13. Change || Big Thief So much of And Still the Light Returns is about each character navigating change in the other(s) or their circumstances that this just seemed appropriate. Also uh: Would you live forever, never die / While everything around passes? / Would you smile forever, never cry / While everything you know passes?
14. Stretch Your Eyes || Agnes Obel It took me quite awhile to land on one for In These Holy Waters. But about halfway through writing it, this song came on in an old playlist and immediately clicked. It's the movement of the water in the melody, the mingled mournfulness and defiance. The dark and the ghost / They dance so sweet and slow / Dug-out from below there / to damn the gods
15. Song with No Name || Johnny Flynn And as a teaser, this is the song for the upcoming Atandil 15 (Darkly the Sundering Flood). I won't say anything more than that, but I'm still hoping hoping hoping to have this one out before the new year. We'll see.

🌿 C H A R A C T E R  M A P 🌿 WIP DEVOTION
Welcome to the Character Map for DEVOTION. Tumblr won’t let me upload a high-quality, zoomable image, so I’m linking it 🌿 HERE 🌿 instead.
MAP KEY: The map is made up of three concentric rings. The bubbles attached to these rings represent characters (labelled), and the “sun’s rays” around these bubbles represent defining character traits (for a full discussion of each trait, please see the character’s profile, linked under the cut). Main characters can be found on the innermost ring, secondary characters on the second ring, and side/tertiary characters on the third and final ring. Characters in turquoise bubbles are associated with Valeriano (main character). Similarly, characters in purple are associated with Nube (main character). ABOUT THE CAST DESIGN: Apart from the two main characters (Valeriano & Nube), every character has been designed to highlight, exacerbate or contrast one of the main character’s eight traits. Notes on how they do this are included beside each character bubble.
This is a work in progress so I’ll be updating and fixing descriptions as I go along!

Festivals and Holidays
Olive: Hello everyone! My apologies, I haven't clearly set up what festivals and holidays we celebrate here in my queendom...so I will tell you now! If there are questions, please do ask! I will do my best to answer!
More Info Under The Cut:
January: N/A (Though for 2024 only, the Fruition Festival was moved from October to here.)
February: Flora and Fauna Festival;
We paint flowers onto each others' wings, we have face painting, we honor the flora and fauna by bringing new to meet the eldest flora and fauna of that species. We also perform ceremonial dances, tell stories of how the eldest fauna came to us, and any baby born during this time will be marked, with paint, that they were born during the Flora and Fauna festival. We do so much more than that too! We thank the sun for bringing warmth to us. It is a week-long festival.
May: Summer Sights
The Summer Sights festival celebrates the summer seasoning arriving, thanks to the sun spirit. Everyone goes outside and enjoys the heat, along with dancing and singing. Cold treats like popsicles and ice cream are given out, with the theme being summer. The week is filled with summer games and contained bonfires. People paint their wings with sun themes for a good summer and praise the spirit, asking him to help the sun shine bright and long enough for crops to grow and be harvested.
August: Fall Festival
This festival celebrates the coming of fall with games, leaf decorating, and offering the fall spirit treats left outside for him to collect. People put on makeup and earrings in the spirit of fall. People also write down what they are thankful for on a leaf and crush them as best as they can in the name of the fall spirit. It is said that if you hang the crushed leaves on the door, the fall spirit will give a gift. This festival is also for a week.
October: Fruition Festival
This festival celebrates the day the queendom came to fruition. Every day for a month, people from all over either paint some of the body of the current queen or bring papers with their wishes on it. At the end of the festival, the current queen has to go up to their bowl, give it all of the wishes and light it. My bowl is black with a moon on it. The current queen is not allowed to know what is written on the papers. It's considered an unfulfilled wish for her to know what is on them, and it must be thrown out. For the paint, it will be washed away when the clock strikes midnight, to celebrate the longevity and prosperity of the queendom.
November: Celebration of The Snow
This festival celebrates the first snowfall of the year. Sometimes the festival gets pushed up or down depending on how fickle the weather can be. People from all over sell and create warm drinks and food decorated with something snow-themed. Children make cookies to thank the snow spirit for bringing snow to the land, having snowball fights and making snow flowers. Adults make bracelets and write poems to read on the morning of the festival's end. To conclude the festivities, the queen dances with a beautifully decorated winter dress and gloves while the snow falls around her. This festival is a week-long festival.
December: Winter/End-Of-Year Festival
This week-long festival celebrates the moon spirit and her beauty. People make moonflowers and decorate a flower crown for the spirit. There are moon games like "Starlight, Starheight" and "Moon March". On the last night, the citizens go up and light paper into a big bowl, in which the current queen will mix up and place a few white candles into it. Then, all the candles are lit with the queen reading a prayer from a paper to conclude the festivities.
Whew! All of them for now!

2023 / 29
Aperçu of the Week:
"Only when the last tree has died and the last river been poisoned and the last fish been caught will we realize we cannot eat money."
(Cree Indian proverb)
Bad News of the Week:
This year, 100,000 square kilometers of forest have already burned in Canada, already a record. That's the area of Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg combined - and the season isn't over yet, with the heat wave in North America just reaching its first peak this week. Elsewhere on the planet, things are hardly better. Last weekend, for example, more than 4,000 people had to be evacuated on the Canary Island of La Palma. This weekend, there are already 30,000 on the Greek island of Rhodes. And even in Germany, there hasn't been a single day since the overly dry spring when there hasn't been a fire somewhere.
In many respects, a forest fire is a combination of bad news: Lots of fine dust emissions are produced, and carbon dioxide bound in the trees is released. The respective biotope of fauna and flora is destroyed, the dead plants can neither absorb CO2 nor produce oxygen. Enormous heat is generated, at the same time cooling storage capacity on the ground and water in (at least) the upper layers of the earth is lost. All very bad. The fact that human lives are also endangered and houses and goods burn down seems almost irrelevant.
Northern Italy has experienced the other extreme in recent days: there were such violent hailstorms that ice floes drifted through the streets in the cold water. In Italy! In July! I almost wish that soon there will be an idiot sitting in front of me in the morning commuter train, who babbles some nonsense that there is no man-made climate change. Then I can at least explicitly (and acoustically!) vent my frustration about all those who are just too comfortable to acknowledge the changed necessities. Which we can only counter with fundamental changes in our everyday behavior. And I'm also talking to myself here...
Good News of the Week:
You can only elect your representatives every few years. For the rest of the time, the only thing left for the people to do is to voice their opinions loudly in the streets. Therefore, the freedom of demonstration is a high good of all democracies. In the last few days, there have been fine examples here of the self-confident appearance of citizens against the state when they perceive it to be encroaching.
First in Hungary. In the capital Budapest, 35,000 people took to the streets against Viktor Orban's anti-queer policies. The background was a fine imposed on a bookstore because a book with the most innocuous LGBTQ+ theme ever - two teenage boys falling in love - was offered for sale without "safety measures." At the same time, broad solidarity was visible at the protest march, for example, with the participation of the US ambassador.
Side note: the EU already took Hungary to the European Court of Justice last year over these very rules. So Orban's stone age conservative Fidesz party is being heckled at the moment. From above and below, so to speak. In a rare unison of the supposedly unworldly spaceship Brussels and boots on the ground. On a topic that is far less shrill and pink than it may seem to the Hungarian population in the countryside. Because it is about nothing less than civil rights and freedom.
Meanwhile, Israel is concerned with another great good: an independent judiciary and a functioning separation of powers. For months now, tens of thousands of Israelis, sometimes more than 150,000, have been taking to the streets to prevent the right-wing Netanyahu government's plan to curtail the powers of the Supreme Court. For a free pass for the executive branch. Rightly, this is seen by much of the population as a repudiation of democracy. Which can also amount to a breach of the dam. But the pressure of the (electoral) people has brought nothing: Today the Knesset voted in favor of a core piece of the "judicial reform." Oh boy...
Personal happy moment of the week:
I always thought I couldn't sing. And that's why I regularly refrain from singing along with passionate fervor when a song is playing that I like and whose chorus I know. Now we were with friends after a hike on Saturday in the Isarauen at an Italian restaurant. And were lucky to get the last table in the garden. Why the rush? A look at the hung posters told us: "Michele Barotta live" was announced. With his "Celentano show" and "1,000 world hits in 7 languages". And then he started: a man in his seventies with a brittle voice, no sense of rhythm and a lack of certainty in his lyrics. Accompanied by a karaoke system and his own guitar playing. Okay, we had fun. And applauded. Several ladies also jumped up and danced with visible pleasure. Apparently my standards are wrong. So I can sing after all. And will have completely unexpected career prospects at an advanced age. Watch out for Bo "La voce" Celentano!
I couldn't care less...
...about the state-imposed morality in Iran. Since last week, the so-called "morality police" is on duty again and controls primarily the observance of the headscarf obligation with women. The regime has apparently learned nothing from the violent death of the Kurdish woman Jina Mahsa Amini in the custody of this "police" last fall and the protests that followed: a new law with harsher penalties is to be passed shortly. Rarely is it so obvious that democracy in a state exists only on paper.
As I write this...
...I'm coming home from the train station. By bike. In the rain. Okay: light rain. With my new backpack, which my daughter gave me. And it's rainproof. Good. And thank you!
Post Scriptum
Tech giants Microsoft, Google, Meta, Amazon and others are committing to responsible use of artificial intelligence in the US. Risk assessments, for example, are intended to curb misinformation and strengthen the security of its use. A set of rules is also to be created that will enable consumers to recognize images or texts created with AI as such. On the one hand, this is a kind of anticipatory obedience, since the European Union (with some 450 million well-off citizens, a market no one wants to do without) has already threatened to intervene regulatively if there is no convincing industry code. On the other hand - or maybe I'm just dreaming of a better world - this could indicate a proactive assumption of responsibility. Pandora's box and all that. Let's see...

Dangerously, through a field of rubbery grass, chased Hughes after a sunset which would never fall and the girl eclipsing it who already had. Foot trod purple mouths of tubular flora; smooching at swarms of plump bumblebees bouncing through the powdery sky. So fell the kisses to earth and ululated the loamy soil with their viral tongues. Ribbons of silk, black hair played on the sky in eager jumps as if guffawing tides in the middle of a jovial ocean. And the calluses first reached out, then the hand toward loose strands which fell from the girl's scalp like the wandering fluff of a blown dandelion. And the sun swallowed her shadow.
Remnants of a bruise-purple sky pulsed in splotches of blue soaking them and the tides rose to swallow the rock but fell like breathing as the moon called them home. And midnight-quiet went the field, its asphyxiating whispers weren’t even a nod in the air and the depth of the silence was incomprehensible; itching at and numbing the ears. Thoughts couldn’t even muster space in the mind of Hughes who was slowly becoming entirely blank, without even the awareness to continue breathing. So succumbed to his dulling mind and shrank away from the reality of sensation, Hughes liquified entirely.
Sloshed and frothed in an ebbing decanter; oxides and tannins losing their tangibility, ultimately falling into alcoholic sulfites to be vinted and bottled in Modesto, California. Whiffs of black cherry and a hint of vanilla find themselves etched into the thunderstruck somalia who must alert the National Foundation of Rescued Wine. They would certainly be gobsmacked at his latest discovery, a wine with not one, but two notes.
“It’s bullshit!” He bellows into the now open halls of the foundation. “It’s all bullshit!” And is. Soon crumbled the foundation of the foundation which had been held together for centuries on an air-tight laurel of, never let them see you sweat. But condensation was finally possible (and superfluous) as the temperature rose dramatically without pretext. The ice on gilded fly’s wings melted and fell in opalescent puddles of motor lunch. And Alcoholics Anonymous meetings were held in the bright rays of the sun which spilled through the membranes of thinning clouds and greeted the land with abundant warmth.
Soon enough there was a lucrative prospect in accommodating the inclimate weather. The death of their eyes transmuted into welcoming blues, greens, and hazels. Gnats were welcomed back to the earth, burrowing into the silicone flesh of garden vegetables and made homes in the melting walls of their juicy rinds. Swarming in loud buzzes over the deserts made in states of rising sand compelled by the sun. The people learned to keep themselves cool by using their abundant salivation on the areas of the body which lose heat the fastest. Teeth turned spongy after over intoxication on hydration but allowed mouths to hold deposits of water like reservoirs deep in the earth.
Tongue met asshole and found it fit between spread buttcheeks like the continents as Pangea. Dug their tongues through the sweating walls of prolapsing intestine and cooled the area with a flex of their tongues. Steam rose from open mouths in a train's exhale of cloudy exhaust. Saunas became extinct in favor of sunbathing and one became their own coals with their tongue the ample source of liquid for another and linked themselves in a perpetually satisfied chain of refreshment and exhaust. But slowly, so slowly it was like evolution, were peoples’ broiling their insides, ready to be served with gravy for thanksgiving dinner!
Colonies fell into a state of humid frying. Unable to communicate with each other in their roast-turkey'd states. So began the success of the common fly and its dominance as one of earth's greatest predators. While citizens collapsed with rectal abandon, so thrived the festering fly. Its prey had become a millionth of its size in a direction no scientist or paranoid junky or trembling pervert could have predicted. They ate cooked human meat (which could’ve used a little salt) for every meal for millions of years. Gone were the times of 28 day lifespans and what ushered forth was a glorious respite in rectitude of the fly.

WTNV quick rundown - 68 - Faceless Old Woman
Featuring the voice of Dylan Marron as Carlos the Scientist.
Get the body you've always wanted. We know where it's buried and can lend you a shovel. Welcome to Night Vale.
A SSP spokesdeer, which speaks only fluent Russian, reveals they have finally captured the FOW. Citizens Christopher Brady and Stuart Robertson have their home ransacked seemingly because they reported on the FOW as living in their home which eventually led to her capture.
The spokesdeer goes on to say that they have captured several faceless old women, seeming to indicate that the FOW is a single sentience attached to many bodies. The FOW appears in Cecil's booth to say that's not true before putting a silverfish into his ear. Cecil is somewhat calm but annoyed about this and breaks off to take it out of his ear and defeat it. This seems to cause some damage to his ear, making it hard for him to hear himself in his headphones.
She does this again a short while later as Cecil reports that despite multiple FOWomen being arrested there is still so many, including in homes where one was previously arrested, and in the SSP hover-cloud and in the mayors office. The FOW is valdalising all these places seemingly because of the crackdown on her. Dana states they should halt the crackdown for now. Cecil is still sure that Dana is manipulating him and says he refuses to help her this time. He ends up putting cotton wool into his ear to stop the bleeding.
Turns out that instead of arresting multiple instances of the FOW secretly living in everyone's homes, they were just arrested several faceless old women openly living in their own homes and these people are filing a discrimination law suit.
Weather: "Matches" by Sifu Hotman http://sifuhotman.bandcamp.com
Carlos leaves a voicemail stating that when Cecil was in the otherworld with him, Kevin purposefully stayed away (Carlos also states that Kevin is just wearing dark sunglasses and covered in bbq sauce lol) and Carlos didn't say what Kevin was building under a vast tarp but now reveals that Kevin has built a radio station for everyone's use and that he is very friendly and relaxed these days. Carlos says he wants to ask Cecil something but can't do it over voicemail.
Cecil seems to guess that Carlos is asking him to move to the desert otherworld, which he says he couldn't possibly do and thus leave his family behind.
Speaking of the desert otherworld, they've built a rollercoaster which never stops because nobody knew how to build breaks so the people who got on two months ago are still there, an ice cream shop despite having no milk to make ice cream and a beach resort hotel & spa despite having no water for the beach to actually be a beach.
Carlos has built himself a one-bedroom apartment on the side of the mountain. Cecil and Carlos spent a week there together, making breakfast whenever they thought it was morning. Carlos is apparently the cook in the relationship but Cecil prefers to make his own coffee in a very specific way. They then spent time exploring the desert otherworld, looking at the different flora and the new lights in the sky that they don't understand.
Cecil's mother used to tell him "You can't learn to love others until you learn that others are fiction and that self is unreliable.". Cecil quotes this as he gives love advise to a bisexual barista during his 'agony aunt' style 'hey there Cecil' segment. He also gives etiquette advice about always removing your and their shoes when entering a home and about how a certain tower was destroyed ages ago so don't write to him about it again (write to him about it again).
It seems that the New Old Opera House is just about done. It's opening June 15th and will feature a play written by Lee Marvin. Cecil still has no idea what an opera is but has been told it's something like a petting zoo but with less starving wolves and more intermissions.
Stay tuned next for the sound of folding cardboard and long strips of tape. And to all of the Faceless Old Women, living secretly or living otherwise, fight the good fight. Just leave me out of it, okay? These cotton balls are already soaked. And to everyone else. Good night, Night Vale. Good night.
Proverb: Don't be afraid of the dark. Be afraid of the terrible things that are hiding there and the terrible things they will do.

SLAM!!!!
Tumblr media
“GWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR!!!!!”
Tumblr media
Damn it all--what the hell was this sort of creature doing in the Canopy?
Found in the industrial district, wreaking all sorts of havoc--it was continually slamming it’s hands on the floor, threatening to cause major damages to everything below it.
The opossum arrived on the scene, just as it was making a charge for him.
But a quick dodge out of the way solved that issue quickly. He planted his sword into the ground to act as a brake--the monster kept running, kept going--this thing needs to be stopped--
@thepersonaking56 (???) asked:
A little child sized creature falls out of a portal.
Tumblr media
"Eep! Where am I? Is that monster gone?"
After asking that a monster appears to attack it
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Eep! Someone!  Help!"
Tumblr media
What?
Over to his left, he heard the cries of a child, with the swings of another monster close by.
Is this some sort of fucking joke? Two incidents, at the same time?
This had to be planned.
He growled, placing his hand on his ear.
Tumblr media
“Take care of the beast by any means necessary. Make sure not a soul gets hurt.”
Behind him, and over his communications, he would hear a resounding ‘‘Yes Sir!’‘
And then.
S N A P
His right side would begin glow, a cyan aura enveloping the opossum. He put his left hand behind his back, as the aura would grab for his sword and unsheathe it. Then, in an instant.
SHWING!
The blade would be launched at an incredible speed.
Aiming straight for the monster attacking the strange looking child.
He would make his dash towards them, skidding to a halt once in front of the child.
Hopefully that sword made it’s mark.
Hopefully he can end this quick.

So, for a writing assignment, my teacher asked us to write a poem, so I decided to show ya'll my poem, enjoy! ^^
Prayer of Celestria
O' tiny stars and gleaming moon,
I plead you to hear of me, Aestria.
Glistening in the night,
Shimmering in the indigo-colored sky,
Mighty o' mighty Aestria, won’t you hear my pleas?
The floral you’ve blessed with sweet dreams.
Once upon a sweet spell you blessed,
turned to a tragic curse in the ice and snow.
For on this dark-moon night, a curious prince,
picked the forbidden flora, and fell to,
thy land of eternal dreams you made.
O' dear mighty lord of Aestria,
I wish of you to hear thee,
for though your miracle-turned-curse is,
punishment for those that commit,
the heinous sin of picking the,
forbidden flora.
But won’t you have it in your heart to forgive,
the prince of his sin and bring him back,
from the dreams you have created?
And in exchange of this simple request,
I, in turn, shall protect the citizens of
the city of wizards.
Amen, amen,
O' Lord of the stars
Ya notice the reference to the forbidden fruit? Yeah, I read a little too much Christian stuff and said, "Y’know what? Let’s make a poem based off the forbidden fruit but with my own little twist,"

Chapter 5 The Hopeful and The Hopeless
Look where it brought you now. What a pity.
                You had never learned, Jacob.
You are nothing without your guardians.
You are a ticking time bomb.
At some point… boom! You’ve damaged everyone you loved.
Jacob was crying. Voices sang a nasty concert in his head. His life’s anthem blasting like a start-of-the-week ceremony.
You have nothing interesting to say.
Why would anyone listen to you?
                You stammer.
You’re softspoken.
You’re out of depth.
And then, it laughed. That last part wasn’t usually in the chorus. It riveted Jacob back to reality, pulling him out of his own loop of self-depreciation. Someone was telling that to him and they weren’t just voices in his head. They weren’t memories. They weren’t learned criticisms. The voices were real, this time and it reverberated through the mansion like a haunting replica of the darkness of his mind.
“Don’t worry, darling, it’s all real,” it teased. “The voices in your head? Those were all real, darling. You’ve always thought they were just creations of your own failing mind, but they’re not. They’re real, and you just heard them with your own two ears.”
Jacob was bewildered. Every outerworld is different in its own right. Different people. Different races. Different themes, climates, conflicts and beliefs. The College of Godmothering doesn’t have a directory that indexes all the information about the vastness of the multiverse. Each fairy godmother is expected to easily adapt as one thing that’s more constant than change, is the ever flowing connection with nature. No matter the fauna or flora of a certain outerworld, the nature is bound to care for the fairies that grace its atmosphere, if it has any. This outerworld, Finas, is very much alike the usual habitable world; luscious greenery, animals that looked like those in textbooks, citizens who are humanoid despite having different characteristics and the evil that lurks to make it less of a utopia, and more as normal. As much as Jacob became aware of the existence of Lamang Lupas in this outerworld, he wasn’t familiar with all of its kind. Sadly, that was one danger for fairies who travel to the outerworlds. The nature can’t protect them from its own predators. They were preys to be slaughtered by the corruption that lurked within.
“It is exceptionally delightful to see faces – frightened faces – when they hear my alluring voice. My, my, what is there to fear?” It giggled but its giggle sounded so sinister that Jacob inched closer to the wall, as if the voice had force enough to corner him even further. “Jacob,” it called. It knew his name. “You want this all to go away… right?”
Jacob wanted it to go away.
Slowly, the frost that had crept on the floors, on the walls and furniture were thawed. The water accumulated at the center of the room, building up to what seemed like a towering lady with an hourglass figure; no legs, just a dress made out of water draping into a puddle at her nonexistent feet. Once all the ice had congregated at the figure in the middle of the room, a being claimed its life born out of Jacob’s energy.
“That was everything I hoped it would be,” it said and smiled, it smiled so menacingly that it gave the entity its character and identity.
The figure traversed the room, dissolving into a puddle, and rising back up from a new position. It devoured the space and owned every single spot in the room. Jacob was trapped in his position with no barricades or barriers, just an invisible and intangible fence of fright and terror. The figure could only laugh as Jacob kept getting frozen in place, feeding her more of his power.
Like a pathetic boy that he thought he was, Jacob ended up crying, again. Make it stop. Make it stop. MAKE IT STOP! He murmured under his sobs which only made the figure cackle as it marveled at the shriveling backyard Jacob managed to revive.
“It’s been years, Jacob, that I wished to see the world again from this view,” it said. “Maybe you weren’t such a failure after all.” The figure crept close to Jacob, ducking, and facing Jacob head on, intimidating him to look at it straight, a few inches away from his tiny little nose. “You granted me my wish, and I’m not even your godchild! You see, what more do you think you can do? You fucked up giving me life, I see no reason you could fuck up messing up your godchild turned crush!” The creature was laughing now. It echoed through the darkness like scurrying physical projectiles of malevolence. As it stopped, the creature grabbed Jacob’s hair and pulled it to its face. It started to siphon Jacob’s energy, quenching its thirst for more.
Jacob was seemingly powerless in this situation. He closed his eyes firmly, only equipped with the hope it would stop if he prayed a little bit harder. But it didn’t, the ordeal lasted seconds, a minute, and then something burst within Jacob that took over his body. It wasn’t his ordinary, meek and normal self. This one appeared fearless, tenacious, that it looked at the creature’s blood-shot eyes and blasted its form into tiny icicles across the floor. However, as quickly as that persona rescued Jacob, it disappeared, leaving the frightened and surprised Jacob with some blood… or water on his hands. This time around, Jacob had the adrenaline to run. He didn’t look back. He was crying. He was scared. But he never looked back. What felt like several minutes of running was only a few feet from the crime scene.
Jacob stumbled. As quickly as he was able to run, he fell on his chest. He scrambled his way to stand up but the creature had already reintegrated its original form; this instance, angrier. It dissolved itself into a puddle to crawl towards Jacob’s feet and punish him in his vulnerable position. The creature towered over him, again. Its hair fashioned from strands of water floated atop its head, whirling in its own whirlpool within. The water that made up its body cascaded in its own current that sustained its form and affect. Its black eyes were fueled with rage, and it erupted in a loud ear-piercing scream. Jacob tried to get up but the creature didn’t let him an inch farther.
                One blast.
                Two blasts.
A couple of gallons of water pushed Jacob to the floor, freezing him in position with his own powers.
                “You imbecile!” It shrieked.
“Why are you doing this?” Jacob cried but the creature didn’t respond.
The creature crept on top of him and cupped his face, forcing his mouth open. Again, Jacob’s power was being siphoned. He could feel parts of him starting to disintegrate but he couldn’t do anything. He was frozen in mind, and he was frozen underneath his predator.
Jacob just let it. He cried his last breaths. He was all out of options. The ordeal was seemingly long but not painful. It was just a feeling of helplessness and doom. Jacob didn’t know what will happen to him if his entire energy core is sucked out. Will it be death? Will he be reduced to nothingness? Will he be trapped within the creature’s mind? The unfamiliarity scared him, but that was a reality that he had to accept, and Jacob wasn’t so good at facing adversities head on either. He was and had always been a terrified duckling attracting danger from afar.
Stop please, he pleaded with his mind. It was a desperate call but it was clear that the creature couldn’t hear him nor would it take pity and listen.
                Or did it?
Because it stopped. The creature stopped, and while Jacob’s eyes were closed, he could hear the creature gasping for air. Jacob opened his eyes and saw from his blurred vision that the creature in front of him held its throat. It was freezing. There seemed to be something in its chest that was spreading in branches outwards, like an infection. Jacob couldn’t make sense of it, but it was clearly causing tremendous pain. The creature swiped one last glare and hiss at Jacob before dissolving into a small puddle and disappearing to the shadows.
After that brush with death, Jacob’s hardened breathing was already a relief from everything. Jacob still sobbed his way out to recovery, still feeling the grasp of fear latched on his body. He tried to calm himself down, he really did, and although it didn’t seem like it, Jacob felt better the sooner his breath mellowed. Who was that creature? What was its agenda? Jacob couldn’t be more certain that it told the truth. He was a walking excuse for insidious destruction. Every uncalculated step is a misstep, and every unaccounted deed is no good deed, and even those that were, have proven to be seeds for doubt, nonetheless. Behind the cheerful façade lay a fortress rebuilt and maintained at the cost of exhausted efforts that pay off to a second-long relief. Jacob’s fear of failing wasn’t just anxiety but rather a reminder of its high sense of possibility. For several years, he trapsed around that margin, and despite being utterly prepared and desensitized of failure, one that looked straight up at his face was no less traumatizing.
                Be kind.
                Be Brave.
                Be fine.
He ordered himself. Despite his tired body, it somehow riveted to the idea to collect himself up and survive. That had always been a case for Jacob, so he strained his feet to support himself and walk towards the bathroom. He washed his face and looked at the mirror. His reflection made him hate what he saw, but it was better than not seeing anyone around at all. Depressed, he still thought of Hassan. Where could he be by then?
Think. Hassan. Teleporting. Godchild. Page 53119. Bottom right page. You can do this…
Jacob mumbled, searching his mind for the right way to reach Hassan. To be a fairy godmother, fairies were taught how to always be at call by their godchildren. To make this connection more efficient, a tether could be established that instantaneously pulls them towards their godchildren when they would be in dire situations. However, that was more of a feature instigated by the godchild, not the fairy. This was to avoid unwanted apparitions that can be construed as… inappropriate. Anyhow, Jacob believed that in the given time, Hassan would no way call Jacob for help. He had to do something. Responsibility, he thought. It wasn’t hard to be responsible for one’s own life when they themselves feel undeserving of that gift. However, being responsible for another befell a huge burden upon Jacob.
In a strained effort to operate the tether from his end, Jacob sent himself through space and time. In a series of reckless events, Jacob found himself standing atop a plateau with a gargantuan oak tree in the middle. It was surrounded by a tranquil pond ornamented with lush lotus flowers and leaves. Fireflies harbored around, illuminating the peak like a beacon in the night. The grass around were more delicate than the wind. They danced and danced under the ball orchestrated by the fireflies. The flowers that had sprouted joined the dance and so it reminded Jacob of the fae realm. The pure nature energy provided some comfort to Jacob that he even felt the wind hug him as it went.
In that placid picture, Hassan stood convincingly brave in front of the colossal tree that brimmed with nature energies. He knelt down and seemingly started praying.
“Hassan!” Jacob shouted. He called him but admittedly, he didn’t know what to do next. The entire night was a ramification of one decision after another. Maybe Jacob needed a pause to breathe, but it didn’t seem like he’d be allowed of that luxury.
Hassan sprung into the air. Arms spread outward into an embrace. He didn’t seem to be in pain, but it also didn’t seem like he was in control. Jacob could only fly as fast as he could, but Hassan appeared to have already moved forward with his plan. Slowly, Hassan descended to the ground, kneeling. Jacob anticipated what would happen next as he slowed down and allowed whatever mysticism Hassan had channeled. Either way, Jacob knew he had to support him in any way he could.
Hassan summoned Hanan, the goddess of dawn, the goddess of rebirth and hope, the birthright of life, the mother of the unborn and the reborn, the triumph through the night. Hassan knelt humbly at the precipice of the divine and mortal rift. He waited to be graced by Hanan’s presence, a feat only the most devout believers could attain. His grandmother was one of those blessed individuals who were dignified with her spirit in the past, but he knew his wavering belief wasn’t enough.
There were so many questions he had in the past but never had the mettle to dive deep into the answers. Why did the goddess not bring back the lives lost? Why couldn’t she? Was she powerless? Was she unsympathetic? The questions threaded a tapestry of travesty on his grandmother’s faith, a sin he never let his grandmother know when she was still alive. And yet, Hassan received his grandmother’s trust through the braces she left for him; two arm bands that unconditionally embraced him as it rested on his skin. These braces were made by Hanan herself, according to his grandmother. These were made to protect a warrior reborn to fight the challenges in life and allow him to live without the perils of war and bloodshed. Hanan had instructed his grandmother to give it to a boy with a heart so damaged he needed a second chance in life; to be reborn in the spirit of hope and faith. Since his grandmother’s death, Hassan had only worn the braces once, and it was enough for him to doubt its purpose more. With such power, it could do the impossibilities, so why? Why? He had always asked. But kneeling in front of the Lotus Oak, Hassan relieved himself of the skepticism, and embraced all hope for answers he should have sought many, many years ago.
“You should name yourself fortunate, child,” an ethereal voice said. “You are her descendant.”
Hanan… Jacob and Hassan both thought.
Hanan was a vibrant young maiden cloaked in incandescent light. A gradient of pink and purple flowed in humble thin strips towards the hems of her dress, fading into the air to where her light faded. Her hair was silken and black that was tied up in a high pony and ornamented with a tiny golden crown with jade embellishments. Her eyes were glowing, illuminating the plateau as if it were sunrise. She was walking radiance.
“Your grandmother had bestowed you an incredible feat, child; to summon my divine powers at will, and to wield it with your heart.”
Hassan awaited the caveat.
“I am conscious of your unfaithfulness,” Hanan continued. “But that is nary a bother, brother. You have all the reasons to be.” Hanan helped Jacob up from his knees. She stood him up despite him towering her over. Hanan cupped Hassan’s face. She looked at him in awe and sympathy. “You grew up in so much loneliness… and pain. You deserve everything but that.”
Hanan prepared to heal Hassan’s pain by placing her hands on top of his chest. However, that would only resolve his pain now. The circumstances that cause it would just harbor an environment that is fertile with more suffering and solitude. After being healed, Hassan would still go home to a hollow house, quiet halls, and glaring townspeople. Hassan stopped the goddess as her palms glowed with power.
“What I need is answers, your divine mistress.”
Hanan looked at him, convinced.
“I couldn’t bring your parents back, Hassan. It was possible, but it was our volition not to and you had to pay for the consequences of that decision.”
Hassan had more questions, and Hanan had more to say.
“Your grandmother and I decided to omit the restoration, Hassan. We figured that the Yawa was somehow attached to your father’s spirit and body. We couldn’t risk him reintegrating again.”
“But what about all those people? They were innocent! They shouldn’t have died that night.”
“Death. Death is not a fault, Hassan. Everyone who dies, die innocently, victims by their own circumstance.”
“I refuse to be that cold.”
“I am not cold, Hassan.”
“Then bring them back, please,” he begged.
Hanan sighed. “Our lives… lives in its essence, are woven with the fabric of time. I don’t give life, Hassan. I can’t give back what had been gone and a life can’t be reconstructed. It can only be rewoven once again.”
“I don’t understand,” Hassan replied.
Hanan was disheartened to continue. “Sentient life is incomparable to those of trees and flowers, brother. I may have rebuilt your town, but I know its irreparable. Those who died that night are part of the canvass of time. I cannot simply bring one back. I cannot reconstruct life the way I rebuild houses and replant the trees.” Hanan was almost crying. “Life is pure elementary energy, Hassan. It’s impossible to bring them back on their own. The fabric of time would have to be patched. I could try but it would be an etching to the seamlessness of time.”
“Seamlessness? That was a mistake! That was an error—”
“—in judgment, Hassan, and I didn’t want to resolve it through another consequential one.” Hanan’s voice was firm.
“I still don’t understand.”
“All the lives at that time are intertwined with time. If I should bring one back, I ought to bring everyone back. Patching the fabric with a single thread or a couple of ones couldn’t be. I must bring all those lives back to where they were.”
“Then please do it,” Hassan begged once more. He had gone far enough in this endeavor. He wasn’t ready to go home unfulfilled.
Hanan could see the eagerness in Hassan’s eyes, which meant more heartbreak the closer he was to the truth. “I can’t,” Hanan started. “Not if the Yawa had already possessed your father’s body completely. Their existences are enmeshed, so bringing everyone back meant bringing a monster back to its glory. Hassan, we’d just bring another calamity into the world.”

are there any songs you associate with the Atandil series? or are there any favorites to listen to while you write?
I'm unreasonably excited to get this ask because YES absolutely. In fact, I have a whole playlist I've been adding to as the Atandil series develops that has one song per installment and am just sitting here grinning that I finally have a reason to share it on here. So thank you for this ask!!
Basically this is a playlist of the songs that either a) I listened to on repeat while writing a given installment, or b) just have the right vibes and consequently always get associated with that part of the story. The outlier there is track 1, which is pretty much the "theme" of the entire series. I'll do a list below the link to give you the quick tour.
Child of the Troubles || Andrew Simon McAllister Tragically this one no longer plays on Apple Music or Spotify, but I linked to the artist's page in the song title where you can stream it. This one is the partner track to Unfriends and Belen's run-in with the Laiquendi.
The Fall || Hans Zimmer Just such excellent Fen of Serech vibes here, especially the 2nd half. I literally listened to this one on loop while writing Ye Shall Render Blood and it is the whole mood of that installment.
Solringen || Wardruna The whole piece works well as the right feelings for A Shuddering in the Air, but specifically the chunk beginning at 4:44 was the underlying inspiration for the way they deliver the "oath of parting" in the burial rites at the end.
Into Dust || Mazzy Star This is my ultimate doomed mortal/immortal relationship song. The only explanation needed here is honestly to direct you straight to the lyrics. It even references fading. Absolute perfection and the correct level of abject sorrow for In Memory Untarnished.
And that's the list so far! I plan to add to the playlist as installments develop, so potentially I'll come back and add to this list then as well. Thanks again so much for this ask! I've been wanting an excuse to nerd out about these and this was such a fun start to my week!

Vitrana: Crystal Fortress of the Stars
Hidden in the hushed whispers of distant nebulae lies the luminescent world of Vitrana. Encased in a massive, transparent crystal shell, this shining jewel radiates with ethereal beauty, its shimmering lights visible across the cosmos. Yet, the magnificence of Vitrana goes beyond its celestial allure; it lies in the harmony of its inhabitants, the elegance of its cities, the advancements of its sciences, and the rhythm of everyday life.
Tumblr media
Land and Physical Features
From afar, Vitrana appears as a luminous marble suspended in the abyss, its surface alive with multicolored auroras. The planet's exterior is an impenetrable crystal shell, a protective forcefield that has preserved Vitrana’s pristine ecosystems and saved it from cosmic cataclysms. Beneath this crystal armor, the landscape is a spectacle of organic and crystalline formations, glittering seas, and bio-luminescent flora. Mountains gleam under the three suns, their peaks adorned with reflective ice, casting prismatic spectacles that have become an emblem of Vitrana's visual charm.
Climate & Geography
The planet enjoys a mild, temperate climate, maintained by the regulated transparency of the crystal shell, which allows sunlight in and traps heat as needed. Natural Resources are abundant, primarily in the form of 'Gleamstone', a versatile, crystal-like mineral capable of storing energy. Harvesting and utilization of Gleamstone has shaped Vitrana's economy and technology.
Population and Urbanization
Vitrana is home to approximately ten billion Vitraneans, a humanoid species known for their translucent skin and luminescent eyes. Their cities, often called "Mirage Cities," are a testament to their mastery over light and crystal. Buildings, crafted from Gleamstone, seem to float, suspended in the sky as they refract and reflect light, creating a mesmerizing urban landscape.
Economy
Vitrana's economy is a model of post-scarcity economics, centered around the ubiquitous Gleamstone. This energy-storing crystal, combined with advanced solar harvesting technologies, has eradicated energy shortages. Vitrana's currency, the 'Lumen', is a digital asset backed by the stored energy in the national Gleamstone reserves, creating an energy-based economy where wealth directly translates to power, quite literally.
Government and Legal System
Vitrana is a direct democracy where each citizen's voice counts. Their technology facilitates a system where each decision, from local planning to foreign policies, is put to a public vote. The government's role is mostly administrative, ensuring the smooth operation of these systems.
Crime is almost non-existent on Vitrana, courtesy of an efficient legal system aided by advanced surveillance technologies. Yet, privacy is upheld through consensus algorithms, ensuring an individual's information is accessed only if the collective deems it necessary.
Foreign Relations
Vitrana maintains neutral and peaceful relations with its galactic neighbors. Their foreign policy is based on non-interference, though they do provide humanitarian aid during interstellar crises. They have become a beacon of hope, a symbol of what civilizations can achieve with peace and cooperation.
Society & Culture
The arts flourish on Vitrana, especially the art of 'Luminography', using refracted light to create grandeur displays of visual storytelling. Their calendar revolves around the cycles of their three suns, leading to a unique system of 'Triple Year'.
The Vitraneans enjoy a diet rich in phototrophic organisms that are farmed in vast underwater ranches. Education is prized, with a particular emphasis on science, philosophy, and the arts. The Vitraneans' manners are refined, focusing on empathy and understanding, and their meeting and greeting traditions involve a beautiful dance of light created by handheld Gleamstones.
Science & Technology
Vitraneans' technology is a harmonious blend of magic and science. They have harnessed the energy of their suns, stored in Gleamstones, to fuel their civilization. They've mastered the art of photon manipulation, using light for communication, transportation, and even construction.
Medicine on Vitrana is advanced, using crystal and light-based therapies that can regenerate tissues and cure illnesses. Vitraneans communicate using 'Photocomms', devices that transmit thoughts as encoded light pulses, enabling instantaneous, intuitive communication.
Parting Thoughts...
Vitrana, the crystal world, is a testament to the heights a civilization can reach when it harmoniously co-exists with its surroundings. As the crystal shell protects Vitrana from the harsh cosmos, the Vitraneans, in turn, care for their world, creating a utopia that shines like a beacon, illuminating the way towards a harmonious future among the stars.
