PAIRING — satosugu x fem!reader
SYNOPSIS — there's no such thing as "sin" in buddhism, but gojo and geto are not so sure about that... not when you look good enough to eat.
CW — monk!satosugu, believer!reader, slight dumbification, praise and degradation kink, pet names, oral, dacryphilia, power play, rimming, size kink if you squint, cum eating, choking, satosugu is fruity af // WC — 2.5K ;; cross-posted on ao3
ANYA'S CORNER — geto in his buddhist robe is something I think about every day, but him and satoru? I'm gone
P.S : this fic is named after BeWhy's song, "GOTTASADAE". in early Korean's transcriptions, the term 가라사대 was an imperative form used by the king and other important figures hence the connection
Tumblr media
Being a faithful believer is no easy vocation. Especially if the temple you go to pray at has such debauched monks inside.
"Drunk on my cock already?"
Every time, every day, it ends up in the same way: confessions whispered in the darkness provided by the huge, golden statue of a Buddha in the Hokke-do, the meditation's main hall. Immoral words heard by Geto Suguru then reported to Gojo Satoru.
A slap on your thigh. Playful, but it stings still.
"That's all she's good at."
They are the heads of the temple and as such, it's no problem for them to summon their acolytes and before you know it, they are onto you. Hazes of lust surrounds their godly bodies like foggy auras and nothing, not even the great Buddhas take pity in you.
Suddenly your clothes are gone and you find yourself laying on your back on one of the altars close to their living quarters. Often it's the one with food offerings made to please enlightened beings, which you certainly are not.
'Atone for your sins with us here', as both of them like to repear, an offer to the spirits of sex you should be staying away from.
Such a sacred tool soiled with body fluids should corrupt the monastery, but it doesn't.
It never does.
A dark, masculine chuckle slide on your skin like honey, soft as the fabric his robe is made of. The rustling of his sleeve, so close to your ear, brings you back to reality.
"It's true, but there's more. Come on now, doll. Show us your tongue."
"Do as we say, you filthy slut."
You wrinkle your nose at the smell of incense mixed with hydrangea tea next to you, yet you oblige. You're glad to. Your outstretched tongue reaches the chin with Geto's length resting on it and Satoru cocks his head to the side to look. Once he's done, the man kisses your thigh, delighted.
Today, it's his turn to suffocate in the warmth of your pussy.
"Good girl. You're so obedient," your eyes beam with adoration as calm, considerate Suguru cups your face while his other hand grabs the base of his veiny, girthy dick. Your mother waters all over again and he notices it.
You sinful, little thing.
He motions for you to raise your eyes and meet him and when you do, you see it. His smile borders on a grin. "Now take me fully. Make me cum and you'll be one step closer to repent."
You know it isn't right and yet here you are, gagging and choking around him when he shoves himself back in, his length pushing through your lips to fuck your throat while his best friend's lips delve deeper into your flesh. Gojo's eyes roam on the bulge in your throat, the head of Suguru's cock touching your uvula.
Then he starts to move and you whimper, helpless, and you feel your drenched folds get even wetter. The pace set by the other monk is too fast for your poor self to endure much longer.
Strands of pearly white hair caress your inner thighs as Satoru scoots closer to you. His tone is graceful, an inch away from your cunt when he whispers, "So you really are dirty. Look at this pussy. You like your throat fucked, slut? It's unsurprising why you always come to us to atone. No one else wants you."
Geto's gaze is fogged with lust, eyebrows furrowed in pleasure as your moans vibrate around his cock. Degradation really gets you going, no doubt about it... even if his best friend isn't able to calibrate at times.
For Gojo Satoru, the boundary between pleasure and pain is blurry at best and invisible at worst.
The sight of tears pooling in your eyes almost have him cum in his robe and as for you, naked and aroused despite shame, you hold onto the altar's borders as if your life is on the line. In a certain way, it really is. Another bead of arousal streams down your legs, spreading on Gojo's cheek. He chuckles, peppering every inch of skin he could reach in hasty pecks.
You don't see it, too busy with your throat being clogged by Geto, but the dark-haired monk shots Satoru a warning look and the white-haired monk scoffs.
"You love when we're being mean to you, precious, don't you? You love when I do." he hums and his impossible, blue eyes bore another hole in you when you wail in response, the sound buried by the slapping of Geto's skin against your skin.
Reaching out, you fondle his balls and feel them twitch in your hand. Impossible as it is, a proud smile plasters all over your face, eyes fixed on Geto's. Well, that goes right to Satoru's groin.
"Fuck." It doesn't take long for Geto to grab your hair, keeping you still as he fucks your throat. Gojo stops in his tracks, watching his best friend come undone in your mouth.
Gorgeous.
Being the kindest out of the two, Suguru warns you with a strained "I'm coming" and thrusts one, two, three times before he shots his creamy load in your mouth. You wait, gather in your cheeks every rope of cum he gives you as his spent cock weighs on your tongue. When he pulls out, Geto's vision tunnels on you swallowing.
A few strings of your saliva and his release spanning from your mouth is all it takes, and Suguru feels his dick spring back to life as you hide your face in his taut forearm, suddenly too shy to hold his or Gojo's gaze.
Hot and cold. Fire and water. You are perfect.
"Oh, look at you, acting all cute when I was balls-deep in your mouth just moments ago." the dark-haired monk coos, eyes rolling down to where Gojo's mouth is heading to. He pats gently your hair, then leans closer to nuzzle at your neck.
"What do we say in return to those who provided us with such delicious food, uhm?" You are in over your head, chest heaving with exhaustion. It's always a struggle to accomodate him fully in your throat. The man is hung.
Still, your voice grazes him with a small, "Thank you, G-Geto-sama" as another one, much calmer and deeper, hits you both.
One used to run up your pussy and make you see stars... and then you remember. Your lower half is his to ravish today. And he hasn't touched you properly yet.
His smile is lewd, intoxicating as you look at Satoru and he whispers, "Thank you for the meal."
The first lick is almost hesitant, as to test how jumpy you are; when you do jump, however, Gojo laughs. He was expecting it. And then, without further ado, his mouth is on your pussy.
Demanding, relentless, starved. Satoru is all that and more as he indulges his desires.
Chants of groans flutter around you three as your hips buck into Gojo's mouth, his wet muscle flickering small and frantic circles on your clit and then down, lapping up your juices. He's making your body sing unholy songs on the altar of enlightenment, while Geto enjoys the view from above.
You are so close to your own release, but it's not going to happen any time soon, and the man with snowy hair proves your point immediately.
"Ah-ah, not yet." he tuts and draws back, feeling you spasm underneath him. His chin is coated in your juices as he admires the mess he made between your legs and your heart drops to your feet.
He is preparing you for the grand finale, how can you expect to have an orgasm so soon?
Geto must've seen the look of disappointment in your eyes because he's on you in a nick of time. He bits your lower lip and you chuckle. It tingles.
Spidery fingers press on your stomach as Suguru steps back, sinking into the expanse of skin while Gojo breathes on your pussy. Now that definitely helps you focus on him again.
"Look at me." You tilt your head to better look at him but Suguru coaxes you closer again and kisses you, the feeble plea on your lips dying on his. Satoru stares at you in silence, both annoyed and a tiny bit aroused, until his best friend covers one of your tits with his hand.
It's time to act.
Unaware of the little bet between them you relax in Geto's touch, enough for him to slip in his tongue, stroking yours with his until a sudden, sharp pain knocks the air out of you. Yelping, your eyes flicks up to the man between your thighs, perched and hooked up his lean shoulders.
Gojo has nipped at your folds.
Shocked but burning within you keen and Geto smirks at the white-haired monk, amused.
Geto 1, Gojo 1.
"I said look at me, slut. It's time for the final absolution." When left down, both their hair are so long and lush you always fight back the urge to sink a hand in them. Sometimes they let you do it, for they love physical touch.
Today you sigh sighs in relief when Satoru notices the question in your eyes and nods, moaning as your fingers grip his roots; Suguru, on the other hand, simply grins at you but complies and bends his head for you to caress his.
One hand in Gojo's hair. The other in Geto's.
You feel invincible.
Satoru's locks are spread across your skin like silken webs when he noses your clit and you squirm, shake on his demonic tongue. "Your tongue feels s-so good, Gojo-sama" that's all you manage to say but it's enough. The praise boosts Satoru's ego. He's the easiest to get through like this.
A tug at the seams of your, his limits but they both tear apart the moment Satoru's tongue snakes out of his mouth again to descend further on you, two fingers resting on either side of your tight, incredibly tight ring of muscles while you arch your back, startled.
His head spins at the thought of how ruined you're going to look like soon, bliss painting the inside of his cheeks while he allows you to fuck yourself on his tongue.
Good sluts need to be awarded, too, after all.
The image goes straight to his painfully hard cock, still caged in his clothes. After this, he is going to break you in a half. "Mine."
"Gojo-" you want to protest, say something at least, but neither of them gives you time to understand what's going on. What you do figure out, or rather see, is Geto's arm coming in the frame. He grounds his hand on your throat and cuts your airflow just enough for you to clench like crazy around Gojo's tongue on — no, in your ass. But he's not done.
"Take everything we give you and pray. You'll need it."
A mewl escapes you and he shots you a heated glare as his free hand sneaks between your sopping pussy, neglected by Gojo. His thumb presses on your clit, then an idea strikes his skull, and the look he gives you after is, for lack of a better word, lecherous.
Drawing back from your pussy, Suguru stares at your open mouth and head thrown back on his shoulder, eyes closed in a desperate attempt at containing your sobs.
All in vain.
Looking down for a second, Geto sees the other monk leave kitten licks on your pussy only to still his tongue in your ass right after, hands on both your ass cheeks spread for him to fuck into you deeper. Ruthless.
"Do you want to come, doll?"
The snow haired man moans against you when you cry out, digits digging into Satoru's scalp as your eyes crack open to look at Geto. Am I dreaming?
"Please, I beg you. Let me cum. I've been good." Fresh, salty pearls frame your lashes, falling on your cheeks as Suguru pin you down with a gaze. Satoru keeps on licking and sucking and fuck if you're not going insane because of him.
Tensed, you throw daggers at both when they stop working your body. What-
"You call that begging?" Geto wets his lips before the thumb previously on your cunt flies to pry your lips open. He rests it on the flat of your tongue as he groans,
"You can beg better. Or choke trying."
You go absolutely nuts. With them you always feel so small since they're so tall, but today your need to let go is bigger than both of them.
"Please please please just let me cum this once. Gojo-sama," you whip your head around to catch a glimpse of him and catch him staring at you with hungry-filled eyes. "I've been good, haven't I? Can I repent now?"
Fuck. That look in your eyes, so teary and filled with need make him cum, and he does so hard that his strangled moan echoes in your pussy, your ass, your walls.
Everywhere.
The thumb in your mouth glides past your lips and Suguru chuckles, eyes fixated on Gojo. Then it's on your engorged bud, stroking it lazily, and that means you did well. The dark-haired monk bit your earlobe and says, "Come all over us, little whore.
Repent."
The coil snaps. You snap.
Jolts of pleasure shot through you as the orgasm hits you and without warning, your legs snap shut around Gojo's head but he doesn't care in the slightest. Actually, he's the happiest man alive right now, stretching out his tongue to lick and suck and — kiss every droplet as your arousal does collect in his mouth.
Geto fingers you through the haze of the moment, sliding three fingers in you while he keeps circling your clit. When you come back, shaking in over-stimulation, your gaze wanders around the room. Geto pulls out just as you see Gojo's shadow against the wall stand up after pressing light, affectionate pecks on the inside of your thighs, your calves.
"You've atoned for your sins. Look, they're all here," he darts his tongue, covered in your release and your cheeks burned, seeing how much of a wanton you've been with him. "I'll take care of it."
"Not so fast. Let me see."
Before he can swallow, Suguru lures him down to his eye level and plants a kiss on Gojo's lips. The man quickly responds to it, deepening the kiss, and the sight of their spit and your cum pushes your embarrassed form to roll to the side, face toward the painting of a holy Buddha in front of you.
Their inhuman eyes stare back at you, merciless.
You are ruined, soiled beyond divine grace.
Moments later the monks' bodies cramp you once more and Suguru's arm encloses your waist to let you sit with your back against his chest. Satoru sits beside you both and your eyes fall on the wet spot on his crotch, a smile already forming on your bruised lips.
Gojo follows your gaze when you whisper as sheepishly as possible, "Looks like I haven't repented enough. Want me to lick you clean, Gojo-sama?"
Truth to be told, you love being their sweet, naive acolyte. Always eager to comply, ready to follow every instruction they give you.
They are your one, true creed.
And you're the greatest sin they have yet to absolve.

Mirror Chamber Analysis: Altars, Offerings, and Diasomnia’s Mirror
Tumblr media
I haven’t seen many people- or anybody actually but I could be mistaken- talk about the dorm mirrors in the Mirror Chamber. A huge thank you to @serenitystarrie for compiling all these images together!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Seeing all the mirrors together instantly reminded me of ofrendas home altars with offerings for our passed loved ones. Although they typically involve food, photos, flowers, and candles, what drew the similarity in my mind were the specific items strewn around the mirror. Why? Because ofrendas also leave sentimental gifts/personal items related to what the person had in life. For example, if an ofrenda was for a child, their favorite toys and clothes may be on the altars. The four elements of fire, air, water, and earth (Avatar moment haha) can also be represented through these ofrendas as well, through the candles, papel picado, food, and glasses of water or a wash basin.
Tumblr media
Twisted Wonderland is a Japanese game though, so maybe it’s based off the butsudan, a Buddhist home altar with a similar idea to an ofrenda. Although butsudan’s have become less common over time, they’re seen often in Japanese media. They often have candles, incense, and food, and are home to a Buddhist statue as well as honoring passed family members. The idea of an altar is present across several cultures and religions.
But do you all see the pattern I’m seeing?? Candles, offerings, steps that look like an altar, and the shape of the mirrors…it all looks like an altar for the dead. If this is intentional, it’s yet another insanely clever way TWST repeats the death imagery.
Heartslabyul has various types of mushrooms and interestingly enough, a BOOK in front of the mirror. The book looks to be made out of stone which makes sense, but a book is very interesting. Nearly all of these classic Disney stories are based off a fairytale/book, but only the Heartslabyul dorm has a book to represent Alice in Wonderland. Hm…also, all the visible cards framing the mirror are all Ace cards.
Tumblr media
Savanaclaw has bones- perhaps representing the elephant graveyard in the Lion King? The claw marks around the wall are super interesting to me, because it seems to represent Scar’s spirit a lot more obviously. Haha, I can just imagine Crowley scratching up the walls to get this vibe. It’s also interesting that the “candles” are not on the walls like the others, but instead are right on the steps leading to the mirror. It looks a bit more sacrificial that way- perhaps representing the King of Beast’s “sacrifices” as king and the spirit of Persistence? It may also be a reference to how Scar was burned alive at the end of the movie haha
Tumblr media
Octavinelle’s mirror was actually the one I saw that reminded me of ofrendas, and I connected the rest from there! I love the variety of items left here: corals, seashells, stones, starfish. The frame is also incredibly intricate, including Ursula’s tentacles, her shell necklace that took Ariel’s voice, and her two eels. The idea of someone purposefully gathering these seashells as an offering feels very sweet to me.
Tumblr media
I really love how “rigid” the frame of Scarabia’s mirror is though! All the other mirrors keep a round shape except this one. It’s fascinating that Scarabia is based off the Sorcerer’s “mindfulness” and meticulous planning, but their mirror is the most boxed in and rigid. I love the sand and the domes- I thin it would’ve been really cute to have scarab beetles in the sand too! The candles/lamp for Scarabia is very intricate as well.
Tumblr media
Pomefiore’s mirror obviously had to be gorgeous haha. The crystals, perhaps representing the Dwarf’s mine, are a really interesting choice. I would’ve thought of apples, but I think the crystals elevate the elegant vibe. The emphasis on the peacock for Pomefiore is yet another interesting thing to me. The Evil Queen had a Peacock Throne, but it was very subtle and just decor. But TWST seems to put a lot of emphasis on the peacock, even using the peacock in this frame representing the Evil Queen holding the poison apple. If you look closely, the peacock also wears a pendant similar to the Evil Queen’s jewels. I’m also just very delulu, but the peacock’s face looks like a mask to me haha…Crowley hours
Ironically enough, Ignihyde, the dorm with the most connection to death, does not have a mirror so far. Do they?? Please let me know if they do! We hardly ever get to see the Ignihyde dorm at all, asides from Idia’s room, so I can’t remember a moment where we’ve gone through the Ignihyde mirror. It doesn’t show up in the big portrait of the mirror chamber either.
However, Diasomnia does…and I WAS SHOOK AT WHAT I SAW
Tumblr media
OKAY YES WE SEE DRAGON WINGS BUT??? ARE THISE TWO CROSSES NEXT TO THE MIRROR??? LIKE. CROSSES IN CHRISTIAN LORE THAT REPRESENT SUFFERING, SACRIFICE, AND RESURRECTION? SOMETIMES USED AS SYMBOLS FOR THE DEAD EVEN IN JAPANESE MEDIA? IN TWISTED WONDERLAND WHERE RELIGIOUS SYMBOLISM IS EVERYWHERE? THOSE TYPE OF CROSSES? UM. WHO DESIGNED THIS MIRROR I JUST WANT TO TALK. Because. Are those two crosses meant to represent somebody?
Tumblr media
No but seriously what is that?? Swords? If they’re swords that’s…a very cruel piece of imagery lmao…
Crowley. If you had anything to do with these mirror chamber designs I will strangle you fr BECAUSE WHAT IS THAT

More Ossan's Love Returns details
You thought I was done with this show after subbing it??? No! This is a continuation to my earlier post.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The game and tv controllers aren't always in the same place, meaning someone actually uses them.
Tumblr media
I love all the random appearances of Kikunosuke's riceballs haha. The Tall size really is tall!
Tumblr media
I think this is Kikunosuke's room. He doesn't have much decor, only gym equipment. The framed motto on the wall says 万一空 banri ikkuu ('ten thousand ri (old japanese unit) one sky'), work towards your goal no matter how long it takes. It was originally coined by the legendary swordsman Miyamoto Musashi. It suits Kikunosuke well since he's kept pining for over a decade!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Maki actually keeps studying Chinese throughout the season even though it doesn't come up in conversation. The red book he carries around is his Chinese textbook.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I just realised this reference may not have been clear to everyone, so I'm including it here. In episode five after the ridiculous gay on gay violence Kurosawa takes a kabuki mie pose with his fan as the curtain closes on the antics. The battle is kind of like crazy kabuki play foreshadowed by the sound of shishiodoshi throughout the episode.
Tumblr media
Look on the left! They put up their wedding photos!!
Tumblr media
I just love this shot.
Tumblr media
Chief's get well soon gifts from when he was in the hospital and people thought he was dying. Teppei gave him his cd 完敗 (kanpai, total defeat, pun on 乾杯 kanpai as in cheers). The book is from Maika judging by the title (sexy neighbour) lol. Haruta & Maki went with a more conservative wrapped gift. I don't know who brought the flowers (I think they're kasumisou/gypsophila), but white flowers are generally not recommend for hospital visits because they're associated with buddhist offerings, which I think is part of the joke. In fact, this whole setup looks like an altar of offerings with the flowers and the apples and the riceballs.
Tumblr media
Their bowls go together with their matching couple loungewear!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Izumi started buying a new kind of bread after making peace with Akito's death and gave it to Kikunosuke, what if I cry!! I wonder if he started buying strawberry jam bread for Akito and himself after that strawberry crepe confession episode.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Maki is reading a book in the final spin-off. It's actually the same book he was reading in season one in the episode where he got sick. It's not a real book, but the title is Tokunaga, inu ni nazukeru tte yo ('Tokunaga said he's gonna name the dog', a pun on the book/movie Kirishima, bukatsu yameru tte yo 'Kirishima said he's gonna quit the school club'). Tokunaga is the name of the character Hayashi Kento played on the Netflix series Hanabi. There's a chihuahua on the cover as a nod to Maki being compared to a chihuahua on the show multiple times.

Tibetan Temple Hanging (unknown artist), early 20th century. Dyed and painted silk appliqué
The garlands that make up this complex textile contain hundreds of small quilted and embroidered silk elements—mostly emblems of abundance such as flowers, fruits, jewels, and treasures from the sea along with symbols considered auspicious by Tibetan Buddhists. The composition centers on a large blooming lotus supporting a brimming vase, both ancient Indian symbols of life. This hanging would once have enlivened the interior of a Buddhist temple or audience hall. While long, horizontal examples hung from ceiling beams are more common, this textile’s vertical shape suggests that it might have hung either in front of a large altar or above an entryway, rather like an ornamental festoon in western architecture.

our vietnamese tea ceremony
Tumblr media
some may or may not know i just got engaged to a weird guy i met in college that (to put it lightly) i wasn’t too fond of but after like 2 years of snubbing him he somehow won my heart i guess
Tumblr media
i scribbled a comic about it cause whenever people ask how i met him they sometimes get invested haha
Tumblr media
some people also may have seen him on america’s got talent or cbs news or jimmy fallon or on tiktok doing his pizza man shenanigans lol
Tumblr media
people often ask if he pulled me with his dough skills and i have to clarify i didn’t even know about the dough spinning hobby until after we started dating and he didn’t do the tv/media appearances until like 6 years into our relationship 🤣
Tumblr media
my parents were both boat refugees from vietnam (they fled during the war when they were teenagers and met as adults) and i’m american- but we’re not really that “traditional” i guess
i think many viet people don’t get married or commit without having a tea ceremony haha
a hetero buddy asked who were my bridesmaids and when i told him i don’t have any he asked why and i just said “i like my friends” 🤣 (my childhood friends were there as guests though!)
i also didn’t want/ask pizza man’s family to bring the customary gifts cause i didn’t wanna cramp my style
basically the purpose of this event was for people to witness us getting engaged and be an opportunity for our families to meet one another!
Tumblr media
5/23/2015 is when we started dating
for our first anniversary i got our initials and anniversary date stamped onto a penny and pizza man still carries it around 🥺
Tumblr media
so 8 years later we got engaged on 8/5/2023
8 for august (8 years later)
5th of august (5 for the month we began dating)
year of 2023 (23 for the day we began dating)
i think people often go to a fortune teller or someone who knows what they’re doing to schedule important dates using the stars and other factors but my grandpa doesn’t believe in that and the rest of us aren’t really superstitious
Tumblr media
we wore áo dài- it’s a vietnamese ensemble consisting of a tunic with a long front and back panel that is worn over pants
áo means “shirt/clothes” and dài means "long"
a lot of the time the bride wears red and the groom wears blue i guess but i wanted my outfit to look bridal when i imagine an american bride or a vietnamese bride!
Tumblr media
i also wanted to wear a gold khăn đóng headpiece and to incorporate pearls to resemble what my mom wore when she got engaged to my dad
Tumblr media
sunflowers are also my fav
(after we started dating i thought pizza man was tall and sunny like a sunflower haha 😭)
Tumblr media
my makeshift shoebox altar- or as i like to call it: my “spirit pager” 😤
Tumblr media
the double happiness symbol is two copies of the chinese character 喜 (xǐ) which means joy/happiness and red symbolizes luck for the couple
Tumblr media
my mom asked if we should put up pictures of our deceased and i was like i don’t wanna make pizza man’s parents go out of their way to bring photos 😭
i think we were supposed to ask our ancestors for permission to get engaged or married or whatever but since my mom raised me to believe my life is mine to live i just announced it to em
as far as i know it’s not really a buddhist thing- ancestor worship is more of a vietnamese thing apparently
my mom said vietnam is a country with a lot of war and death in its history- so imo it makes sense how they incorporate the dead into their culture and traditions
Tumblr media
after introducing each of our family members and friends- we lit a couple of incense to (casually) announce the news to our deceased grandparents and relatives
apparently burning incense is an invitation to ancestral spirits and to deliver wishes to predecessors
smoke from the burning incense guides people to safety or safe passing when they die- it also guides em back home on days like these
the spirit(s) depart when all of the incense has burned
next month is my grandma’s "deathiversary” (giỗ) so we’ll be paging her again soon
Tumblr media
we used a tea set that was used to celebrate my 1st birthday to pour and serve (my pick) of vanilla caramel black tea to my grandpa and our parents
pizza man’s mom doesn’t like tea so i was happy i picked something she did enjoy!
but when my mom brought her family to america from vietnam- she asked them if they could bring a tea set specifically for me
my mom said it’s meant to be used to celebrate any of my special occasions
Tumblr media
then me and pizza man said some nice words to each other and exchanged rings
Tumblr media
my ring was pizza man’s grandma’s- his grandpa initially proposed with a smaller diamond but after he saved up enough he got her this bigger one
i don’t listen to any comments that suggest or imply this carbon rock is not humongous 🤣
pizza man paid to get it resized and to repair its prongs (it was well worn by grandma mercedes 🥺)
also found out my ring size is 3.25 (US) haha 😭
he also decided to get his grandpa’s ring resized and to wear it too!
Tumblr media
my mom put this necklace on me- she says it reads “happiness” (i can’t confirm lol) but she received it from her mother-in-law when she got engaged to my dad
my mom was too scared to wear it after their tea ceremony cause it’s 24 karat gold and she didn't wanna wreck it
she said 24 karat gold hasn't been combined with other metals so it’s soft
i guess couples at viet tea ceremonies often get 24 karat jewelry- the idea is they can quickly sell it/melt it down for hard times
Tumblr media
my mom also passed down her favorite jade bracelet and my grandma’s favorite diamond earrings to me 🥺
Tumblr media
and on my 1st birthday my mom got a special ring made to celebrate my birth- she put it on a chain so the person i marry can wear it close to their heart
my mom also got a special ring necklace made to celebrate my sibling’s birth and gave it to their fiancée during their tea ceremony
it’s just the two of us so no more shiny token trophies up for grabs! 😤
Tumblr media
i laughed when pizza man had to squat down so low so my mom could put the necklace on him
after the ceremony i asked him if he wanted me to help him take it off (my sibling's fiancée keeps theirs in a safe cause she’s too scared to wear it daily) but pizza man was like "no i like it 😄" and wore it to sleep and showered with it and hasn’t taken it off since 😭🤣
Tumblr media
at the end of the ceremony we lit the candles on the altar to represent the union of our families!
Tumblr media
then we ate lots of food haha
my parents both cooked! egg rolls, fried rice, lo mein, bột chiên (fried taro rice cake)
my mom was excited because she knew many of our guests weren’t very familiar with vietnamese food and wanted to share that with them 🥺
and my dad was just so excited for me and pizza man and had so much fun getting the supplies and decorations 😭
my aunt and uncle and sister-in-law brought vịt quay (peking duck), heo quay (roast pork), gỏi tôm (shrimp salad), bánh hỏi (rice vermicelli), xôi gấc (sweet red sticky rice topped with coconut, peanuts and salt)
Tumblr media
and pizza man’s mom and family brought lots of desserts
we have always been so amazed with how good their sweets taste and look! 🥺
Tumblr media
we also got an ice cream cake
i wasn’t thinking and asked em to write “nicholas and amy lễ đính hôn” and they called me and were like wtf is this and i was like oh no it’s ok haha don’t worry about it! 😭🤣
Tumblr media
we had some photos displayed but my sibling took lots of nice pictures of the whole thing!
i was happy i actually got the chance to spend time with and talk to everyone who came!
it went so well and we had so much fun that we’re thinking of doing something similar for our wedding- probably a backyard wedding haha
i was telling pizza man apparently some tea ceremonies have the first half take place at the bride’s home and then the later half is at the groom’s home 🤔

anyway reminder that leftover egg rolls can be reheated in the toaster

It's so refreshing to see a colorful historic home like this 1920 house in San Antonio, Texas. By the looks of the Corinthian Columns, I would say it's a Greek Revival, but the real estate description says Victorian, and the Victorian Era ended in January of 1901. 4bds, 2ba, $775K.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The entrance hall is grand- beautiful stairs and yellow walls with a pink wall that has what I think is a Buddhist altar.
Tumblr media
The woodwork over the doorways is so beautiful.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cozy sitting room of the main hall.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Currently, the dining room is a very Zen space.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I expected the kitchen to be larger. Not really feeling the cabinets and it definitely needs a backsplash.
Tumblr media
The primary bedroom is a nice large size and is very cheerful.
Tumblr media
It looks like all the bedrooms are bright.
Tumblr media
The black & white bath is kind of retro.
Tumblr media
Delightful pink family room.
Tumblr media
This is such a cheery home. The attic is finished and has a bright combination bedroom/sitting area.
Tumblr media
Wow, look at the 2nd level porch. Those columns are gorgeous.
Tumblr media
There's a lovely inground pool.
Tumblr media
I don't think I've seen a more cheerful historic home.
Tumblr media
The corner lot measures .32 acre.

Hi Slug!! I'm curious about some of the religious imagery in hypmic! Kuko is obvious and I think Doppo has talked about not believing in gods before but what's up with Jakurai? Is he meant to actually be Christian or is it just an aesthetic thing?
This ended up being so long Tumblr wouldn't let me put it all in one post. Hoo boy. Under a cut for length.
Usual disclaimer that I don't live in Japan, so I'm not talking about IRL Japan so much as Japanese media. Media isn't perfectly synonymous with real life and, of course, it's foolish to draw conclusions from the general (media and culture) and apply them to the specific (individual persons). With that being said, media is indicative of real life values and cultural concerns--for example, the American high school experience is a lot less interesting than in movies, but these movies reflect a romanticization of teenagehood so widespread in the US and areas with heavy US cultural influence that filmmakers take it for granted in their audiences--so I can talk about what assumptions inform the portrayal of religion in Hypmic.
As in a lot of Japanese media, religion is present but not explicitly mentioned outside of Kuukou. It's what I would call culturally religious as opposed to actively religious. Similar to how many works in the Anglosphere are steeped with Christian ideas and phrases even if the authors/works themselves aren't Christian (the Christian concept of sin, using "God" or variations as an interjection, etc.), many works written in Japanese are influenced by Shinto and Buddhist ideas. Some people in Japan are active worshipers of Shinto, Buddhism, or both, but many more have a somewhat relaxed approach. It's not uncommon for people to have a belief in a higher power, but the nature of this higher power isn't terribly well-defined. Many people will attend religious ceremonies for holidays or funerals but rarely pray to a higher power outside of moments of great stress. That is, being culturally religious. Traditions are fun and comforting, especially if they involve dressing up in fancy clothes, eating yummy food, and seeing friends and family. Even if you're not especially devout, it doesn't hurt to pray for a bit of luck before a big test, that your child will grow up healthy and strong, or that your recently departed ancestor will be at peace. For those in predominately Christian areas, you probably see plenty of this in your community--people who maybe go to church occasionally for companionship or holiday celebrations but aren't active worshipers. Or, perhaps, people who pray like, "Hey, if anyone's listening, can you lend me a hand?" Maybe you're even one of these people yourself. We can generally assume that most of the cast falls into this camp. Doppo and Hifumi go to a festival with a religious element--charms and rituals to bring good luck by appealing to Shinto deities--but I doubt either of them have a firm belief that these particular deities exist. They may think that there's some higher power...or not. But what's the harm in a good luck charm, right? And more importantly, it's fun to play games, eat, drink, and horse around with friends! But wait, does that mean these two are only Shinto or...Shinto-ish? Probably not. There's an expression that most Japanese people are "born Shinto, but die Buddhist." Shinto rituals tend to focus on matters of the living (although Shintoism has its own distinct funerary rites, sometimes combined with Buddhist rites), while non-devout Buddhists usually participate in Buddhist ceremonies only when loved ones die. We see Juushi and Hitoya with loved ones buried in Buddhist cemeteries, but it's safe to assume both observe Shinto holidays and customs in some fashion. We also see in the very beginning of TDD that Nemu and Samatoki have what appears to be a butsudan--a Buddhist altar--in their home dedicated to their deceased parents. "But wait," some might say, "I thought spirit worship isn't a part of Buddhism." That's true for some forms of Buddhism, but not all! Buddhism is enormously varied, and some of the (many, many!) forms of Buddhism practiced in Japan accept aspects of Shintoism. There's plenty of mixing, just as we see within individuals themselves. Again, the Hypmic characters may not fully believe that spirits exist. (Well, outside of Ramuda...) But it's a comforting thought that one's deceased family members are around in some form and can be a positive influence on one's life.

Traditional Symbolism in Jujutsu Kaisen Opening 4 - Specialz
Tumblr media
[⚠️Warning: Possible small spoilers⚠️]
Hata-jirushi (旗印)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The white banners seen in the background of this scene are most likely Hata-jirushi (旗印). Hata-jirushi were the most commonly used war banners on medieval Japanese battlefields. The kanji used here “旗印” literally translates to “symbol flag”, “marker banner”, etc.… These war banners were generally simple streamers attached by a horizontal cross-piece to a shaft, unlike the later used nobori (幟) which were stiffened. Later, some hata-jirushi were hemmed on their sides and tops to better attach them to their poles in such a way that they were visible from the front. The purpose of these banners was to help identify and distinguish different army sections and regiments.  The use of them in this scene helps to set the tone of this arc which is essentially the start of a war between jujutsu sorcerers and cursed spirits.
Torii (鳥居)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In this panel, several characters are seen passing through a torii (鳥居). A torii is a traditional Japanese gate mostly found at the entrance of and within Shinto shrines. Torii gates are where kami are thought to travel through and are welcomed to the shrine. It is customary to walk to the side of a torii gate when passing through instead of walking down the center—as it is believed that only kami may pass through the center. The word torii derives from the term “tōri-iru” (通り入る) which roughly translates to “pass through and enter”. These structures mark the transition between the mundane, secular world and the sacred grounds of the shrine. Thus, passing through a torii gate can be thought of as “crossing into another dimension or entering into spiritual communion with nature”. Torii gates act as both a physical barrier and spiritual guardian separating the profane from the sacred within its boundaries. Therefore, it is believed that those who pass through one, are cleansed of their worldly worries and enter a realm of tranquillity and peace. Aside from their religious significance, torii gates hold other more abstract meanings such as providing good fortune, hope, purity, and protection from evil spirits. In this panel, as the characters pass underneath the torii it signifies their crossing from the physical to the spiritual world—which could refer to them traveling down the path to enlightenment or death. Since torii are also believed to provide good fortune and protection from evil spirits, the characters passing under one could be a sort of send-off ritual before the battle to ensure their safety.
Ōnusa (大幣)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In addition to more hata-jirushi, we can see an ōnusa (大幣)—also known as a nusa (幣) or a Taima (大幣)—a wooden wand used in traditional Shinto purification rituals in this panel. Ōnusa are embellished with shide (paper streamers). The wand is also referred to as a  (祓串) when the shide are connected to a hexagonal or octagonal staff. It is believed that impurities are transferred from the person or thing to be purified to the ōnusa by waving the ōnusa left, right, then left again. The usage of them in this scene adds to the traditional imagery and the idea that something significant is about to happen that will require the characters to purify their minds and steel their resolve.
Nokotsudo (納骨堂)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In this scene, Itadori is seen standing in front of a nokotsudo (納骨堂) which is a Japanese ossuary. A nokotsudo is known as a “nokotsuden” or “reido” and is a building in which the remains of cremation are kept. Nokotsudo are generally built in the precincts of temples and are equipped with lockers to keep the remains and are occasionally equipped with Buddhist altars above these lockers to place Buddhist mortuary tablets. This scene portrays Itadori breaking down in front of a nokotsudo. This could either refer to him facing the ashes of the people Sukuna killed using his body—or perhaps more improbably the scene depicts him being confronted with the fact that his grandfather's wish has inadvertently led him down this troubled path.
Joss paper (金紙)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The rounded pieces of paper falling from the sky in this scene are likely pieces of joss paper (金紙). These are typically sheets of paper or papercrafts which are used as burnt offerings in ancestral worship as well as the veneration of deceased relatives on special holidays in Asia. Joss paper is typically printed with various representations of worldly goods such as money, houses, cars, credit cards, etc.… Joss paper is burnt at Asian funerals “to ensure that the deceased’s spirit has sufficient means in the afterlife”. In wuxia and xianxia C-dramas, joss paper is often seen falling from the scene during scenes in which the reanimated and ghostly beings invade the world of the living—which is somewhat similar to the setting in this scene with Megumi meeting his reanimated father. Additionally, it was partly Toji's pursuit of money that led to his death, taking him away from his son, so it is somewhat ironic to have joss paper raining down on him.
[P.S. A few people have been analysing this opening on other platforms, but I wanted to touch on some of the more obscure cultural nuances... I am not Japanese, so this is based off of my own research, so I apologise if I miss anything or get anything wrong. Feel free to make corrections or additions in the comments and reblogs respectively.]
