Okay, so this is me not knowing much about bingo in general, but also related to fic writing. . .
If anyone's done this before, I'd love to hear from your experience because I'm not entirely sure I understand. So I was told that each square on the card is meant to be one story, but I've got several characters scattered across the board (Draco Malfoy, Credence Barebone, Newt Scamander etc) and then other prompts (words, quotes, songs etc), but the idea is to write a story with a character that uses one of those prompts, no?
Like idk xxx song with Newt Scamander in Paris, France, and develop a story around that, no?

I Miss You

Whumptober 2023|Day 5|Alternative Prompt: Playing Cards
Bad Things Happen Bingo|Prompt: Crying Themselves to Sleep
Rating: G
Words: 785
Summary: Echo discovers a message from a brother.
“Those look so old!” Wrecker declares, leaning on the upper bunk to scrutinize the playing cards Echo is sorting through.
Echo smiles. “That’s because they are old. I pilfered them off a graduated trooper when I was a cadet.”
“You stole them?” Wrecker sounds as impressed as he is surprised. “I thought you never broke a rule in your life.”
“With the right motivation, I’ve been persuaded to bend a few.” Echo chuckles. “Technically, they were contraband for the guy I stole them from. So, really, I was doing him a favor.”
Wrecker grins. “That’s neat you still have them even after they thought you were blown up.”
Echo’s smile falls slightly as he continues to set the cards out, dividing them into suits. “Yeah, when they thought I died, they went to my old batch mate, Fives. After Fives, they went to Rex, and then Rex gave them back to me when I-"
"Came back to life?” Wrecker offers.
“Sure,” Echo says. “When that happened.”
“I don’t think you could even shuffle them if you tried.” Wrecker laughs.
“They’ve definitely seen better days.”
The cards are dogeared, and every one of them has been folded into quarters because of the time Cutup tried to cheat at Sabaac. He folded a few of them so he could identify them in someone’s hand. When the other Dominos found out, they had painstakingly copied the folds on every single card so they all matched. Echo had been so angry at his squad mate, but he desperately wishes he could take back the harsh words that came out of his mouth. After all, they were just cards. A toy. Nowhere near as important as the individuals that played with them.
Echo finds the card he is looking for, the one that had made this deck obsolete. He had accidentally dropped the card in his cup of caf, discoloring it. Fives had suggested they stain all the cards in caf to match; however, Echo decided to retire the deck and get a new one. The old deck was tucked away in his storage bin in the barracks on Kamino, carrying too many memories in its deteriorated fibers to throw away.
Echo holds up the stained card for Wrecker's inspection. “I dropped it in my caf. It’s the reason we didn’t play with this deck anymore,” he explains.
“What does it say?” Wrecker asks.
“What does what say?”
Wrecker points to the back of the card. “On the back. There’s writing.”
Echo flips the card around, squinting to make out the ink of a pen on the intricately designed backing.
I miss you.
Echo feels like the air has been stolen from his lungs.
Fives wrote those words. There is no doubt in Echo’s mind. Not before the Citadel mission. After. After Echo died. After Fives went back to Kamino. Echo can see him. Sitting in their barracks, sorting through Echo’s meager collection of personal effects. He’s searching for a playing card stained in caf. He writes the three words, handwriting ragged by a trembling hand. A note for the brother he lost. That he'd never get back. I miss you.
“Echo!”
Echo blinks and finds that Wrecker has half climbed into the bunk with him, a hand on each of his shoulders. “You with me, buddy?” Wrecker asks.
“Yeah,” Echo croaks. He clears his throat. “Yeah. Sorry.”
Wrecker’s good eye searches Echo’s face, trying to understand. “You scared me there for a second. You sorta zoned out, and then your breathing got weird.”
“Sorry,” Echo says again. Emotions bubble up, threaten to burst out of him, card still gripped in his flesh hand. Dark, inky, familiar script carving into his mind. I miss you. I miss you. I miss you.
“Did I do something?” Wrecker asks, climbing down from his precarious perch.
Echo shakes his head and tries to reassure the man with a thin smile. “No, you didn’t do anything. It’s just…” Echo holds up the card. “The writing. It’s a note from my batch mate, Fives.”
He leaves it at that, and Wrecker doesn’t ask for more. Instead, he offers Echo a kind smile. “I'm gonna go start my watch but let me know if you need anything.”
“Thanks, Wreck, I will,” Echo says, and he means it.
Wrecker leaves the bunk room, and Echo gathers up the cards, tucking them in their tin. He keeps the caf stained card out. He lies down, back to the room, facing the wall, and holds the note in front of him. The last words his oldest brother ever gave him blurs in his watery vision.
“I miss you too,” Echo whispers, and silently cries until sleep claims him.

Signed up for a Bad Things Happen Bingo card, and uh. Saw a prompt.
'Shock collar'
Shock collar whump? Jamie shock collar whump? Jamie fucked up backstory shock collar whump?
Whump below the line. mind the tags
"Stop it!" he shrieked, and the stupid fucking pubescent cracking of his voice sent them all into fits again. His thoughts weren't stringing together, head stuffed tight as humiliation pooled under his skin. "Fu- quit it!"
Denbo grabbed him from behind and his mind went blank.
His legs dropped out from under him, trying to scramble away from the bigger man, but he was stronger, fully grown where Jamie was still stretching for the weight the physios wanted him to be at. Denbo moved him like a puppet, hands gripped tight around the bones of his shoulders, holding him steady while Bug sprung forward with the collar and and his dad laughed hysterically, choking on his drink.
Up close, the collar was a small and inoffensive thing, not even as thick as his dad's belt.
His mind screamed.
"C'mon, Jam-Jam," Bug sing-songed, sloppily patting him on the cheek. "Don't be like that. Heard you were getting all fancy, wearing a bit of jewelry these days -- we're just gon' see how it looks on you."
Jamie turned and bit his hand.
Bug screamed.
His dad laughed.
Denbo slapped him round the head.
His ears rang. Bug shook him loose off his hand, and Denbo let go of his shoulder to cup a hand up under his jaw, tilting his head back so that his neck was bared and vulnerable to the air.
He swung his free arm to scratch out Bug's eyes, but Bug caught him easily -- him and Denbo holding him spread open by the arms like a moth to a pinboard while his dad howled with laughter from the kitchen.
He heard the distinctive clink of glass on glass as his dad poured them all new shots.
He heard a strangled, "No!" rip from his own throat as Bug fumbled the collar around his neck. For a moment, his greasy hand slipped, and he let the collar hang loose and limp around Jamie's neck while he wiped his hands against the front of his t-shirt, right over the City logo.
He clicked the collar shut, and something broke in Jamie's chest.
He pulled the remote out of his pocket.
He hit the button.
Jamie's knees jerked out from under him.
It didn't hurt the way he thought it'd hurt. Felt like getting flicked really hard in a neck, but all over. It didn't really hurt. It didn't.
His eyes stung. He dug his nails into the carpet.
Denbo was cursing, "Fuckin' hell! Warn me next time, man. That could've shocked me."
"Ah, sorry 'bout that. But fuck, he really fell didn' he?"

I feel very weird even posting this (my narcissism alarm is ringing in my head), but I'm just putting it out there that I think I'm going to take a little fic posting break this month.
Probably no one cares, but I'm aware someone might be waiting for a IAL update and I just wanted to post this in case anyone is wondering when the next chapter is coming.
My brain is being very uncool (yes, this is the best word I could find lol) and the last time I felt like this I quit fandom for 1.5 years, so this is me taking action before going immediately to extreme behavior ✌️

Fatal Weakness
A fatal weakness is described as a critical debility in an otherwise remarkably strong, or perhaps invincible, character. A character who is, in all other aspects, invulnerable or nearing it, has a weakness which, if exploited, can lead to their death.
A common example of this would be the fictional mineral kryptonite to the DC superhero Superman. Kryptonite is one of the very few things which can harm the otherwise invincible man, and is often regarded as the most effective strategy in taking him down. In Greek mythology, the character Achilles was invincible due to his mother having bathed him in the river Styx. However, since she held him by the heel to dip him in the water, his heel wasn't touched by the water and ergo vulnerable. Consequently, his fatal weakness was his heel (hence the common phrase "Achilles' heel.")
As such, this prompt refers to strong characters, maybe nearing invincibility, who have one flaw, one point of fragility, capable of leading to their deaths.

A Punishment Most Vile
Tumblr media
A Month of Whump: Impalement
March of Pain 2024: Miserable
BTHB: Slammed into a Wall
Fandom: Original work
Synopsis: The servant boy of an evil magician finds himself in deep trouble and suffers the painful consequences.
CW: torture, magic whump, punishment, impalement
The magician’s workshop smelled of stale magic, pungent and fermented-sweet and unsettling. The orphan boy held his breath as he straightened a stack of ancient books covered in thick blue dust. Given the kind of magic experiments the magician conducted, that dust could be anything. The powdered skin of some strange creature, or maybe the remnants of an experiment gone wrong. The orphan boy didn’t want to find out.
He shouldn’t have to find out, he thought, turning from the books to the puddle of murky, foul-smelling liquid pooled in the back corner. He was eighteen. He should be learning alongside the magician, helping him with his work rather than cleaning up his messes like some dumb servant. Helping him, rather than suffering the punishments brought on by his anger.
You are a servant, though, came the little annoying voice in his head. That’s all you are.
And as usual, he argued back.
No, no, I’m not!
You’ll never amount to anything, will you? You know that.
Just watch! I’ll prove you—
“Are you quite finished?” said the magician from the door. The orphan boy jumped and almost slipped in the murky pool.
“Almost, sir,” he mumbled. “There was a lot of mess to clean up.”
“Is that a criticism?” said the magician.
“No, sir.” The boy turned away, hiding his smirk.
But the magician saw it anyway. His gloved hand shot out and seized the boy’s throat, lifting him just barely off the ground, so that his toes dragged across the grimy stone. The boy choked and spluttered, scrabbling at the powerful hand around his neck.
“I would expect,” said the magician, in a voice dangerously low and cool, “that you would know your place by now. But I see you still need to learn.”
Calmly, as if tossing aside a piece of trash, the magician threw the boy across the room. He slammed into the stone wall and crumpled, whimpering, in a heap.
Just a servant. Nothing but a servant. Nothing but a—
“On your feet! Stand up!”
The boy stood, shaking, knowing what was about to happen. Another punishment. And all because of his stupid mouth and his stupid thoughts.
There was a flash of magic; something hit his chest hard, driving him up the wall with its force. He stuck there, feet dangling off the ground, unable to move. The magician muttered an unintelligible word. The pressure in the boy’s chest magnified to an intense pain, radiating through his pinioned body. He clenched his teeth against it, willing himself not to scream, not to betray his agony and satisfy the magician’s whim.
“You will remain there until you learn what I’ve tried to teach you,” the magician ordered, turning on his heel.
His back was turned.
The boy looked down.
A glowing shaft, oily black despite its underlying green hue, protruded from the left side of his chest. Tendrils of dark magic trailed from its end, smoky and foul.
The boy dropped his head back, squeezing his eyes shut against the shattering pain, against the pulse of his own failure in his impaled heart.
“Don’t worry. I won’t let you die. That would defeat the purpose of this lesson, after all.” With that, the magician left, and the boy hung alone in his punishment, with only his own tormented thoughts for company.

The Rising Moon - Flash Event
The Eclipsing Bingo team has been in discussion for a while now and we've decided to host our very own flash event. This post will be the master post for this short event so any information needed will be linked within this post.
The Rising Moon is a flash event that Eclipsing Bingo is hosting from now until the end of June. After the 30th of June, cards holding this design and dedicated prompts will no longer be able to be sent out or requested, making the end of this event. Even though applications for a card may have ended, any participants can fill out their bingo cards for evermore.
Unlike other flash events that other bingos may host, instead of the traditional five prompts that are given, the Rising Moon will hold a 3x3 bingo card with prompts that are catered towards this event. While this event is in place, you won't find any of these prompts on the traditional Eclipsing Bingo card, however, once the event finishes, these prompts will be added to the long list of prompts that we offer.
If you have anymore questions feel free to message this page of leave a question in the ask box. Without further ado, here are the links you need to take part in this bingo.
