whunmpee that breaks my heart the most isn’t whumpee that is terrified, but whumpee that is happy — not a feisty kind of happy where they laugh and mock whumper, but an innocent, childlike and naive kind of happy where they don’t know what is about to happen to them. they still think that they are safe, even when they’re held captive by whumper, because they are so pure and innocent that they don’t know there are bad people in this world.

they don’t understand what they did wrong when whumper tortured them. they don’t understand why any of this is happening. they were literally smiling innocently when they were escorted to the room in which they’d be tortured.

this literally fucks me up. I need caretaker to come save them asap :(

a character who didn't call a friend for help because their phone is charging in their bedroom and by the time they realized they need help, they were too sick or weak to go get it. the friend comes to the rescue and uses their spare key when they miss something important (work, a party, a team assembly, etc without calling) and it's unlike them. friend comes in and is and hurt by the fact that character didn't call them, but the anger dissipates when they realize that it was something so simple.

Different ways a whumpee character can begin to break down:

that first muffled grunt of pain wrung out of them after being captured. maybe it's from an unexpected slap to the face or punch to the throat, maybe from the restraints around their wrists or arms being pulled a little too tight.

the first screams that are ripped from their throat as the initial interrogation reaches a peak and injuries are now being layered on top of other injuries.

the tears that start streaming down their face as they realize they just can't control their own reactions anymore.

the first time they start shivering and shaking from pain or cold or fear or exhaustion or some unholy combination of all four.

the first time they break down and ask for food or water or blankets or painkillers or even just a bit of human conversation, because they're so lonely and miserable in their cell.

the first time they break down and beg for mercy, either because they can't stand another round of torture, or because whumper has just decided to torture a teammate or friend in front of them.

the guilt that saturates their entire being when they finally break down and give information to their enemies in order to save someone else from being tortured, or in order to prevent an attack on another target, or just to save themselves from some horrible fate, their once-strong resistance worn down to a nub.

the moment right after being rescued, when a stoic character finally allows their eyes to well up with long-repressed tears. "I thought I'd never see you again," they choke out as they cling to their friend. "I didn't want to let myself hope -"

Weapon whumpees in their last moments of sanity asking, begging, to be killed so that they can’t do anymore damage, so that they can’t hurt anyone else, so that they can’t be used anymore.

Better yet if there’s something stopping them from doing it themselves and they have to plead with caretaker to kill them.

Does caretaker do it? Does it hurt worse for whumpee to be dead or to see the wreckage they cause, the pain in their eyes? Does caretaker forsaken them too?
