I'm processing a lot of emotions tonight and I keep being drawn back to Good Omens--not just because it's the new hyperfixation or because it's so good. That's what I thought it was, at first.

But this year--hell, the last 3 or 4 months especially, I finally started taking steps to accepting and being myself. I'm rapidly approaching middle age and I'm only just now beginning to feel like I'm allowed to be me. I came out to the people in my household, a few select friends, and a few select family members--most of whom were wholly supportive. I started testosterone injections. I stopped trying to be someone I'm not. I stopped hiding who I am and who I love.

What does this have to do with Good Omens? Nothing. But also... Everything.

So much queer representation is in characters vastly younger than me--and that's good! I want queer kids to feel safe and loved and accepted in ways I never did. They deserve better than we had. And it gives me hope for their futures. I bawled like a baby when I watched The Owl House with my son and he was totally unphazed by the queerness. It's just how people are to him.

But when something like Good Omens comes along and not only grabs every opportunity to show average, everyday old(er) queer representation... It just. I've never felt more seen. More accepted. More hope for all our futures. And season 2 just knocked that out of the fucking park. And the nonbinary, genderfluid, and genderqueer rep? My God.

And it's not subtext, it's not it's own separate plotline where they're fighting for acceptance or dealing with hateful bigotry... It's just... Accepted. It's normal. No one questions it. No one even comments on it.

It's people of any age (even millions of years old) being unapologetically themselves and loving who they love openly and fully (with one notable uncommunicative group of two ineffable idiots, but they'll get there).

I just.

I can't express how grateful I am to see older queer rep at this time in my life. It's been a rough year, and I expect it'll get rougher before it gets better. But I've never been happier in my own skin, and it means the absolute world to see my literary and media heroes like Neil Gaiman, David Tennant, and Michael Sheen (and Terry Pratchett and everyone who worked on Good Omens, honestly) making this beautiful, messy, adorable, excruciating, wonderful, heartbreaking, ethereal, down-to-earth tale.

There aren't enough words in all the languages of the world to express how I'm feeling. "Thank you" just feels... Insufficient.

I just hope they know how much it means to people like me, especially after a lifetime of buried subtext and overt queerbaiting and media ridicule and general lack of acceptance, to experience this story with them.

Stranger Things has made the General Audience care too much for Will to deny a Byler ending

In Season 1, Will is kidnapped, survives a week without food or shelter in a nightmare dimension, and is implanted by a demon. He's been abused by his dad and bullied his whole life. Yet once he orients himself the FIRST thing he does is see Jonathan's hand and ask if he's okay:

In Season 2, he avoids telling everyone what's tormenting him because he doesn't want to worry them and he thinks he'd be misunderstood and babied. (He only tells Mike.) He gets possessed, has the guilt of causing people's deaths, and multiple times feels the pain of being burnt alive:

In Season 3, his friends aren't interested in D&D. Mike tells him something homophobic and cruel. Will realizes he's gay and closeted and has had his innocence stolen from him forever. He destroys Castle Byers full of sorrow and self-hate:

In Season 4, he's in love with his best friend and lives with the pain that Mike is dating his sister. STILL, he unconditionally helps Mike in the relationship, even if it denies himself a chance to be with him. He gives El the credit for the painting HE made for HIM:

For 4 seasons, the show has made people care for Will as he suffers alone. What logically happens in Season 5 is that he stops suffering and is no longer alone.

In Season 5, the Duffer Brothers have left an open plot point where MIke's love confession to El was based on a lie. He felt romantic love for the first time because WILL confessed his love for HIM. (See my blog for more on that!)

The seeds for a "Byler twist" are all there. The main factor against a Byler endgame is a need to cater to the General Audience who might not be ready for a gay relationship between two main characters.

But not only would denying Byler be (by far) the worst instance of queerbaiting in media history, where Will's love for Mike is simply a device to prop up a straight relationship...

... It also would feel particularly CRUEL to Will. For 4 seasons, the Duffer Brothers have made sure the GENERAL AUDIENCE wants him to have a happy ending. And they have made clear that Will wants to be with Mike so much.

Nearly every other main character in ST has had their love interest. There is no main cast addition to s5, so there is no "other boy." If Byler happens, then the people who'd complain would not only want the gay boy, but WILL of all people (how dare you!), to be the only main character to end up alone. He is America's Gay Adopted Son. The anti-Bylers would be isolated.

The Duffer brothers have set up the GA to cheer for Will pairing with the boy he loves. It would be a home run against homophobia.

Will told Mike he is the heart of the party. But for the GA, Will has been the heart of the show since the beginning. (And if Mike leads the party in s5, it's because Will's heart is on his shield.)

"Will really takes center stage again in [season] 5," Ross Duffer told Variety. "This emotional arc for him is what we feel is going to hopefully tie the whole series together."

The Duffers have said s4 was their Empire Strikes Back ending. Which makes s5 the show's triumphant Return of the Jedi.

Will will get his happy ending. It's all there!

I request that you please talk about the good place I love that show

I thought it was maybe a little corny and sometimes a bit too "baby's first ethics class" for someone like myself who has already deepened herself in the subject far too many times, but for what it was I really enjoyed myself. The characters are all very likeable and manage to be very obviously flawed but consistently endear rather than annoy, except maybe Jason.

I suppose one of my main criticisms is that while it flirts with same sex attraction between the two female leads, there are no actual queer relationships depicted in the show at all, which seems like a missed opportunity, and I might almost call it queerbaiting if I were in a bad mood.

People are commenting on how Harry’s whole persona and style feel extremely performative. Since his vogue cover he has not worn a dress either, so it seems very much like an act he put on to make more money, while never actually being interested in fashion like that. Also he’s never actually served any looks or dated a man so that could also be why ppl think he’s straight lol.

So I’m giving you the benefit of the doubt anon because english is not my first language but for me it sounds like you’re one of those people you’re talking about… Anyhow

Yes I saw the accusations about him queerbaiting. And to be honest with you I really really hate it. Not only because of Harry but also because of the massage that sends to all those baby queers who now think they have to act, dress or look a certain way to call themselves queer. Again:

The word queerbaiting came from fictional characters who often were invented from straight people who used to tease the queerness of said character as a marketing strategy to attract a wider audience for their show or movie even though in the end nothing queer ever happened to not make the homophobic part of the audience mad.

I don’t know how often it has to be said until it reaches every single brain out there but here we go again

A real person can’t queerbait.

Clothes don’t have a gender and don’t have a sexuality, there is no right way to look queer or straight. And there is no right or wrong way to dress queer.

Apart from that it’s totally normal to dress differently while being on stage then when you’re travelling/ at home/ in your comfort clothes. That fact has nothing to do with Harry’s interests in fashion. For real do you expect him to go on a train ride in one of his stage outfits? Not very comfy and not really clever if he doesn’t want to attract a bunch of fans.

Also, how do you know he never wore a dress since?

Everyone is so fast to judge as soon as it’s a celebrity often forgetting that they are humans too just like me and you. And humans have layers. Thousands of them. There is no way to know someone’s sexuality based on a different hairstyle and a few pictures.

And about your last point. Well you wrote an anonymous massage to a larry blog. So I think my opinion about if he ever dated men or not is pretty clear.

re: that *chef kiss* PERFECT Franken-Drummer post and tumblr not being all over The Expanse, I know right?? it’s such an amazing show with so many delightful, complicated characters yet it’s so unfairly slept on! maybe because S1 takes awhile to get going and ppl give up? idk but it makes me sad that I have so few ppl to squeal about Drummer and Amos and Bobbie and Christjen and Ashford and Naomi (ad infinitum) with 😭🚀😭

for those of you who have not read or seen The Expanse series (I myself have yet to read the books), let me tell you why you'll love it:

political space drama with incredibly distinct cultures and phenomenal world building, if you're a details girlie (gn), you're gonna go nuts

the found family vibes!!??! are off!?!? the charts!?!? (minor spoilers for the first few episodes) four people are thrown into a situation in which they accidentally become the most important people/fugitives in the whole galaxy and most of them DO NOT trust each other, what could possible go wrong, and even better, what could possibly go RIGHT

Christjen Avasarala. you are not ready for her. most powerful mover-shaker on earth with the most incredible outfits you've ever seen, refined elegance with the filthiest mouth, plus she's got a classic "whatever those two have going on is so gay it veers into something else entirely" with her younger protective knight lady, Bobbie

Bobbie. the "not to be a lesbian but oh my god" post is made for her. we meet her in the show for the first time when she arm wrestles a robot and WINS. you will be begging for her to step on you with her mech suit

speaking of women I want to step on me Camina Drummer. angry revolutionary pirate queen of my heart. do you miss the unique agony of 2000/10s queerbaiting but want it to be not baiting somehow? this show does that, idk how else to explain it. the most agonizing sapphic pining you've ever seen but it's textual and also not painful because its gay. don't worry, Camina fucks, just not the girl she wants most (also spoilers, but this is not a bury your gays show don't worry)

Jim Holden is literally just Some Guy who becomes the special fantasy chosen one because he simply cannot stop Getting Involved. nosiest bitch in the universe, I love him.

Barty pressed his cheek close to Evan as they sang into the same microphone. He could feel the buzz of the music through the vibration of the stage below him.

He ran a hand through Evan’s platinum curls as he sung the line. Evan leaned into it, eyes meeting Barty’s, grinning as he sung.

To lie beside my Romeo

Oh what a wicked way to go

Evan’s fingers moved deftly on the guitar, he lifted a hand, twirled the pick in his hand before resuming immediately, he didn’t take his eyes off Barty the entire song.

“Ah fucking hell look at the comments Bee.”

Evan was sat at the base of the sofa, scrolling through the comments on a video of their performance last night. He held the phone up to Barty on the sofa, who squinted before taking it and reading it out to the room.

“Skittlefiend57 says ‘omg Blarty and Evan! I’m so gone 4 them u guys’”

“Blarty?”

Regulus raised an eyebrow.

“We’ve been getting my name wrong all these years guys. Wow that’s a crazy thing to discover at 23.”

“Bad spelling aside, there’s way more. And it’s not all good stuff.”

Evan said and Barty looked back down at the comments.

“Barty and Evan are queerbaiting, they act so gay but they’re not dating. It’s all clearly faked to get attention. Fucking pathetic. Why thank you peenisonapizza. Glad to see you know us personally and can therefore speak on our behalf.”

“Don’t know why they’re obsessed with accusing a band with two trans guys of queer baiting.”

Evan pinched his furrowed brow and shook his head in disbelief.

“They don’t even care about the fucking music, just us and whether we’re dating or not.”

Barty laid down on the sofa, dropping one arm around Evan and resting his chin on Evan’s shoulder.

“Hey cheer up Rosie. They care about the music. There’s a few assholes but that’s a given. If they weren’t talking about us acting gay they’d be talking about whether my tattoos are real or fake.”

“Or some conspiracy theory that Reggie’s not actually lactose intolerant.”

Pandora chipped in.

“I’m not lactose intolerant!”

Regulus replied indignantly.

“Is that you talking or your obsession with chocolate?”

Dorcas rolled her eyes as she spoke. Regulus avoided her gaze as he mumbled out a half hearted response.

“Remus got me hooked on Tony’s chocolonely.”

While the rest of the group squabbled Evan leaned his head back against Barty’s shoulder, he pulled out his phone.

Evan breathed in and passed the phone to Barty.

“You think this is good?”

Barty read it over and nodded.

“You’ve been really nice about it too.”

Evan huffed out a laugh.

“I was normal about, not my fault you would have said something like-“

“Roses are red, violets are blue, you are a cunt and I hate you @peenisonapizza.”

Barty took a small bow, flourishing his hand dramatically. Evan turned around and flicked him in the leg, which only succeeded in making him laugh.

“Ok I’ve posted it.”

Evan clicked post and watched as the ‘likes’ number quickly began to climb.

“Now I’m just not gonna read the comments on that post.”

Evan huffed out a laugh and Barty patted his shoulder.

“Good on you Rosie. Now who wants to watch a movie?”

Evan clambered onto the sofa next to Barty who leaned against him immediately, head resting on his shoulder.

“Rosie.”

Barty whispered.

“Yeah Bee?”

“Give me your phone. Look we both know it will bother you all evening not reading those comments if you have your phone on you. Just- out of sight out of mind, I’ll give it back to you once the movie is over but you deserve to have an evening off.”

Barty’s eyes were wide, expression genuine as he spoke. Evan hesitated then reached in his pocket for his phone.

“Don’t spam it with photos alright?”

A smirk spread on Barty’s face quickly, eyes sparkling.

“I make no promises Ev.”

Evan rolled his eyes but handed the phone over.

The movie was something Pandora had picked, something from the late 80s, a strange mix of fantasy, reality and meta theatre that Evan actually didn’t hate.

Still he drifted to sleep at some point watching it, the stress of the day had clearly gotten to him and something about the way the top of Barty’s head made for a great pillow probably didn’t help.

Either way he woke up to the feeling of Barty shaking him.

“Come on sleeping beauty, let’s get you to a real bed. Here’s your phone back.”

Evan rubbed his eyes and got up, stumbling to his room as thanked Barty in a half asleep murmur.

He got to his room and turned on his phone, wincing at the glaring brightness, turning it down quickly. He opened his photos app, just as he’d suspected his camera roll was filled with new photos.

He began to scroll through them. There was one of his friends, all waving at the camera. A zoomed in shot of Inigo Montoya‘s face on the TV screen from a funny angle. Himself, looking dumb, sleeping with his mouth slightly open. He scrolled to the next picture and stopped. Barty with that cheeky grin of his, curled up against Evan, flipping off the camera. Eyes twinkling in that way that always made Evan feel a little warmer, a little brighter. He fell asleep again dreaming of a body pressed against his in a hug, the hum of a movie no longer playing, soft hair tickling his face and mischief painted in big brown eyes.

you can date the progress of #gay rights in television thru the pairings me and my siblings were into in high school.

me. freshman in 2012. into destiel. in 2012 they hadn't invented gay women yet. they also hadn't really invented being gay For Men. weird cultural moment where the word queerbait really was relevant for the first and only time.

younger sister. freshman in 2016. into supercorp. still cw bait! but for women this time! #progress. also into korrasami. which limped its way over the canon line with a handhold. #progress again.

baby sibling. freshman in 2023. listens to a dozen different ttrpg podcasts with gay characters a dozen. their first REAL fandom was she-ra they spent an entire summer drawing pictures of catra and adora. cried when catra and adora kissed on screen, huge. came out to the family as a lesbian like a week afterwards, after drawing catradora kissing images with marker the entire time

Because we are moving, I've been rewatching Supernatural while packing and I've decided i want to make a list of the episodes that i actually like (meaning that I actually like what I'm watching).

Season 1:

Episode 1 'Pilot' - Minus the intro, i usually skip that

Episode 2 'Wendigo' - That last bit, where Dean has the bandage on his throat... *insert debby ryan meme here*

Episode 3 'Dead in the Water' - Enough said, i mean come on..

Episode 5 'Bloody Mary' - I used to be terrified of this ep. But the way the boys are so soft and comforting towards the girls. (and Mary is pretty)

Episode 7 'Hook Man' - Love me some hook man. and the black shirt and brown jacket combo on Dean *chefs kiss*

Episode 12 'Faith' - Dean is just really attractive to me i this ep, he's so sick and pathetic looking and i love it... THE HOODIE

Episode 1 'Meet the New Boss' - "And who says you speak for God? You're wrong. I am utterly indifferent to sexual orientation. On the other hand, I cannot abide hypocrites like you, Reverend." "Okay, fun's over, friend" "Tell your flock where your genitals have been before you speak for Me." "And who the heck are you?" "I'm God.", basically the whole church scene

Episode 5 'Shut Up, Dr. Phil' - It's just a funny episode

My Buddie Babies: Let's Talk (Post 9-1-1 S7E5 Commentary)💕

First of all, Hi Girlies! How are we doing on this fabulous, fabulous day? After all, another day where BiBuck is canon is another day in paradise. Am I right? Of course, I am! 🥰🥰🥰

In all seriousness, I just wanted to reflect and comment on a few things I noticed on Tumblr after S7E5 aired. A few fellow Buddie Stans were a little iffy on this week's episode for a few reasons, but I wanted to touch on a couple. And I know no one really cares about my opinion, but as someone who's been ABSOLUTELY CHOMPING AT THE BIT for Buddie since Eddie joined the 118, I feel like this is warranted.

First things first: Marisol...

Now hear me out, I know Eddie's past relationships haven't been the best. (Hell, some might even say not entertaining)- but I really feel this season is more focused on Eddie's growth than the actual relationship between Marisol and Eddie itself. Does that make sense?

Like, as someone who loves to write, I see Marisol as a plot device- she's here to push Eddie in the right direction. (Now if that happens to be into Bucks arms, I sure won't be complaining.) But even if it doesn't, that's fine too. To me, it's clear Eddie's relationships have failed for a reason- and that reason being Eddie. This whole nun thing with Marisol, though funny as hell to me, was a realization for Eddie that he moves way too fucking fast. I mean, he asked her to move in, then wanted to shack up at Buck's place for a couple days to avoid seeing her at home! His conversation with Bobby proved that when he said it himself. He rushed things with Shannon, he rushed things with Anna and now he's doing the same thing with Marisol. Eddie needs time to get his shit together first, then we can make Buddie canon.

Now on to my second point: Buddie.

I know some people are disappointed Eddie hasn't expressed feelings for Buck yet, but I'm kind of happy he hasn't. I would HATE it if Eddie and Buck got into a relationship, only for Eddie to unintentionally rush things. We already know Buck has abandonment issues and I would be so floored if Eddie realizes he's moving too fast only to pull away. Our boys are precious and deserve the world- but only in due time...

Let's face it, Eddie and Buck are rather impulsive and with their job it makes sense- they have to be reactionary, quick thinking; but when it comes to this relationship shit, it hasn't benefited them in the slightest. The boys need time to figure things out.

Though I'd love to see it, we don't NEED Buddie this season. BuckTommy fulfills my 'Happy Buck' quota and any day Eddie is on screen is a good day indeed.

We've survived 6 seasons of the Great FOX Queerbait Slow Burn- so one more won't kill us. After all, 9-1-1 was just renewed for season 8! So, with Tim Minear as the show runner, I'm hopeful.

...So that's it. That's all the food for thought I've got for today. I just had to get that off my chest.

There's a new mobile game Dislyte. There's 5 characters who are perfect for this blog but first I'll ask about Freddy since he's the one with the most simps so far.

For both the sake of efficiency and for the sake of atoning for my neglect of this blog, I'm going to rate all the Dislyte characters that don't suffer from "anime character with body accessories" syndrome.

To start, here's Freddy, as per the inbox request. You may have seen a lot of artists (over a year ago) talk about this design and draw it. That's probably fine enough. I mean it's a pretty standard wolf furrybait design. Can't fault it for following the effective formula. It's not wholly my thing, but I will respect it for being the furbait it is.

Drew, the one I actually associate with Dislyte furbait. I hate his name, but if not for Dislyte's aggressive advertising campaign, I may have actually got into the game just for Drew. In that sense he is furrybait like queerbaiting is a thing. What else can you truly say? Furries love a hot wolf man (I'll get to the Roman one eventually) and a hot Anubian jackal (The Khemian will probably show up eventually too).

This is Daylon. We like him here. He's furrybait. Not much else to say. It's fun to anthropomorphize Egyptian gods.

Djoser is a hot bull, for which I haven't seen much love from a famous bull-wolf on here. Anyway, yeah the hot wolf is furrbait.

Sander here is the whole Set animal thing. That means he's kind of some sort of canine but I haven't been able to uncover which one. Probably based off a standard jackal. Kinda looks like a stuck-up dick, and reading a little of his wikia, that's within reason. However, he's still furbait regardless of all that.

Brewster suffers from baby-face, despite being in his 20s. I reiterate, he is 25. I assume this baby face makes him popular among other furry circles I tend to distance myself from. At any rate, he is furbait the same as anyone else on this list thus far.

Tevor also suffers from baby face but that's just because he's a catboy twink. I mean it's a cute design, genuinely. Furries also love a catboy twink. This is furbait and that's not really up for question.

I have said it before and I will say it again. HOT. LION. MAN. Javid is slept on in this distinction. I don't know what to say that I haven't more-or-less said of any other hot lion men, but that's just his best distinction. Make more hot lion men the furry of the month.

Though this looks more like a costume than a character, Li Ao was just something I couldn't let slide. I mean his shape and his dragon design are just a wonderful facet of furrybait and furry culture.

There we go. All of the furbait characters of Dislyte. Nobody else on the list of espers is. Now I can rest from Dislyte.
