I forgot how beautiful it was to watch Boba be adorned in the Tuskens clothes and to make his own staff.
Once again we knew nothing of the Tuskens but that they were "savage" but then they tell us, once somebody actually asks, that some tribes are violent but there's many of them. We see their clothes are earned. We used to assume they were just dirty scraps. It's very likely the fabric they wear is painstakingly handmade and serves a lot of purpose.
Their staffs are earned and taken from sacred trees that we are guided to by the animals or maybe even spirits of the land, from times long before it was sand. It's a part of you just as it's part of the land. Shaped by your hands and used as an extension of yourself.
They dance with their staffs. Moving with the sands in elegance. Steps passed down by their people for millenia. I wouldn't be surprised if their dance was telling a story like so many indigenous peoples do.
Man. It makes me emotional.

I haven’t discussed this in ages, but there are no surviving pictures/holos of Ailani’s face.
She has several training holocrons since she specialized in double-bladed saber fighting, but most of those died with the Order, and still pictures/holos are entirely non-existent.
Ailani hates herself immensely, so anytime anyone pulls out a camera, she immediately covers her face or turns the other way. The only picture she ever willingly showed her face for was her GAR ID card, but that image was also destroyed with the Order.
So after Ailani dies, there is no memory of her face. She fades into background noise.

Speaking of bedtime, I just think that Ailani’s nighttime routine is utter insanity.
She either does a fifty step skincare routine (the handmaidens teach her) or she falls asleep on her floor in her daytime clothes. I think she usually drinks hot chocolate before bed, but ONLY peppermint hot chocolate. She insists it helps you sleep better. She is a night shower person, but insists on showering in freezing water with the lights off. If she wears a face mask to bed, it looks like she is scowling forever. She gets up at 5am to drink three cups of water without saying a word. She stares at the ceiling for at least three hours in the complete silent dark before she can fall asleep.
Wolffe buys her a white noise machine and she falls asleep in about ten seconds. Now she cannot sleep without it. If there is no white noise machine, she insists that Wolffe read the most boring thing he can find.
She is the highest maintenance person ever while also not caring about anything at all.

Ailani’s padawan braid was woven with a single red ribbon. Bright scarlet threaded into dark hair, like a crimson lightsaber cutting through the twilight. Something, something, she’s been dead since the beginning.

Punisher by Phoebe Bridgers and GUTS by Olivia Rodrigo are the defining Ailani Réillata albums and I’ll just never shut up about it.

"Listen," one guard said, "I know we have only just met-"
"No," the other guard said, "we've worked together for years!"
"-but you can trust me when I say-"
"I can't, you have the curse that's opposite from mine!"
"I don't care for you at all."
"Well, I… oh… I love you too."

The Acolyte was really interesting to write because Ailani is a very complicated and unreliable narrator.
Firstly, she is over-emotional. Her emotions dictate her perception of reality, and she is incredibly biased and blinded by her self loathing. Her feelings about people and places are shaped by her limited experiences and severe self loathing. She doesn’t believe people can love her, she always assumes the worst, etc, etc.
Secondly, she intentionally leaves things out. She tones down her thoughts and downplays her abilities and emotions to the audience. What you are reading, is often only a glimpse into her mind. She’s attempting to deceive the audience. She doesn’t want you to know how broken she is, she doesn’t want you to know how much she really loves Wolffe. She’s afraid of being vulnerable, even to omnipresent forces. The Reader and her relationship with them/you, is a metaphor for higher powers and faith. What do you share with the creator? What use is lying to someone who knows all? Don’t you want to be redeemed?
She’s very interesting to write because I have to craft a reality and then very intentional distort it.

A Brief Guide to Ailani’s AUs
I wanted to organize all of Ailani’s aus in one place, so if anyone wanted, it would be easier to follow along.
Eventually I’ll add the updated character designs, but for now, hopefully these posts can help you work through Ailani’s lore.
First I wanted to start by linking some “ground work” posts. These posts linked below aren’t assorted with a single au, and are more about all of Ailani’s aus as a whole:

Ailani’s death runs like a thread through all her AUs.
In most timelines, she dies at the exact same time. Same day, same hour. The first moment of dawn on the day before her twenty-seventh birthday.
If the AU diverges too far from her canon, her death arrives earlier. Punishment for straying too far from reality.
In turn, her death is always carried about by Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader. The only exception to this rule is the Stasis AU, where she is killed by Grand Admiral Thrawn. However, Thrawn is only in power due to Anakin’s execution of the Emperor. The thread is weak, but runs like blood.
However, the one factor of Ailani’s death that never, ever changes is the moment right before it arrives.
Ailani is always surprised. Always.
She’s always distracted for a mere moment by Wolffe’s voice or the mere thought/mention of him, and she is shocked when death instantly follows.

Every day I think about The Acolyte as an audiobook narrated by Tatiana Maslany. Because she narrated the Hunger Games audiobooks and she just has the emotional range that Ailani’s story needs—
