SHOLMES & SUSATO BONDING TIME!!!!!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[ID:two images, the first being a digital drawing of herlock sholmes and Susato Mikotoba, from the great ace attorney. on the left, there is a two panel comic, in which susato nervously asks "mr sholmes? do you have any tips for... um... cross-dressing?" sholmes looks excited, and replies with a single large exclamation point. in the center, sholmes and Susato are shown cross-dressing, sholmes in a brown and yellow walking suit and bonnet, and susato in a grey suit and cap, pink waistcoat, and red tie. sholmes rests his hand on susato's shoulder, raising his finger confidently. susato looks up at him warmly, with their arms crossed behind their back.
the second shows a discord message, from Reed; Arthur Timothy, reading "you are producing herlock sholmes fanart at an alarming rate"./End ID.]

Oh fuck, it’s almost June. Okay, here’s a quick and dirty Asian American literature sweep I recommend for AAPI month. Note this is not meant to cover all of AAPI—obviously, because they’re different ethnic groups and it barely even makes sense to combine the categories to begin with—but instead blast out some of the most famous works that, IMO, should already be household names outside of AsAm lit/studies. I also, just based off my own interests, included works that look at the interplay between race and gender and sexuality.
I included “trending” writers, but I also wanted to redirect some attention to work and writings that have been in this field for literally decades. This is off the top of my head and written on my phone, plus I doubt anyone will read this. I may return to this in the future.
Essayists & Memoirs:
Eric Liu, Notes of a Native Speaker
Maxine Hong Kingston, The Woman Warrior
Alexander Chee, How to Write an Autobiographical Novel
Cathy Park Hong, Minor Feelings
Jia Tolentino, Trick Mirror
Jay Caspian Kang, The Loneliest Americans
Hua Hsu, Stay True

Genderbends! you know em, you probably have some sort of opinion on them, and so do I! That opinion is that I think they're neat :] However. I think too much. Jason to Jaye? Stephanie to Stephen? Dick to Dix- oh that one might be a bit culturally charged. Ahem. Moving on to my point: I think way too much about names in genderbends, and how a lot of parents don't just have one name that they pick and then change the gender of later. So I prefer to make it up based on how/why I think a character might've been named what they were, and figure it out from there. So that's what's under the read more if you wanna see me ramble for a bit!
(Disclaimer: This isn't meant to shame anyone who does it the easy way. I just put too much thought into this, lol.)
Tumblr media
Richard "Dick" John Grayson. My beloved little guy. One of the easiest ones to do, because Dick as a name has a distinct companion name. Back in ye olden time it doesn't seem too out there to think the two would be associated, and they're both pretty simple of the times names. John turns to Mary, because that's just a typical naming convention. Need a middle name? Just use the same gendered parent's name.
Tumblr media
Jason Peter Todd. His parents seem pretty normal. When I can't think of anything specific I tend to look for either a name with a similar meaning (which you'll see a few of later) or a name with similar popularity. I use behindthename a lot for figuring that out. Jason and Peter just. Didn't have very many options that I liked in any method I tried, so I settled on just using the ones that matched popularity with his original name in the year listed as his New Earth timeline debut.
Tumblr media
Timothy Jackson Drake. Timmy was fun. Timarete is such a weird name and I think it's absolutely delightful. Tim's popularity match was also Kimberly so that was a no go, lol. So I got to bouncing around looking for something with a similar sound or meaning. Timothy means "to honor god", but that was too specific so a went looking for name meanings that mention honor in general. I brainstormed most of these with a friend so I have a list of honorable mentions:
Tumblr media
And the middle name is the same situation as Dick, just switching out the father's name for the mother's.
Tumblr media
Damian Wayne. Ok. I know I said I didn't like to just flip the gender of a name. But Talia has a whole speech about the meaning of Damian's name and why she picked it so I couldn't NOT try to keep it. I did look for a while to try and find a name with the same meaning, but none really fit what it seemed like Talia was going for. Here's some honorable mentions from me trying to find something else:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bruce Thomas Wayne. I saw the popularity match and had to use it.
youtube
And another parent's name for a middle name situation.
Tumblr media
Barbara Gordon. Babs was just fully named after her mom so that's really the easiest of all the name flips.
Tumblr media
Stephanie Brown. Stephanie was a Very popular name, so it felt like it would be reasonable to think Arthur and Crystal might've just flipped open a book of baby names and called it a day. I also couldn't imagine Steph willingly going by Tyler. so I went on a hunt through late 90s/early 00s shows for a character I thought guy Steph might like well enough to snag the name of. And then I found out after the fact that Jude is sometimes short for Judas. Which I thought was very funny so I decided to stick with it.
Tumblr media
Cassandra Cain. There weren't many good options so I kept it simple.

Arthur (Series) OC - Anthony "Tony" Samuel Read
Age: Over 3 Years Old
Species: Arctic Fox
Family: Arthur Timothy Read - Adoptive Eldest Brother Dora Winifred "D.W." Read - Adoptive Older Sister Kate Read - Adoptive Younger Brother David Read - Adoptive Father Jane Read - Adoptive Mother Thora Read - Adoptive Paternal Grandmother Bud - Adoptive Paternal Uncle Loretta - Adoptive Paternal Aunt Monique "Mo" - Adoptive Paternal Cousin Dave - Adoptive Maternal Grandfather Jessica - Adoptive Maternal Aunt Richard - Adoptive Maternal Uncle Cora - Adoptive Maternal Cousin Fred - Adoptive Maternal Uncle
Favorite Colors: Red and Pink
Hobby/Hobbies: Drawing pictures, scalping, singing privately, making stink bombs or any kind of prank tools, disobeying his parents' absurd strict rules, and especially pranking (mostly his older siblings)
Friends: George Lungden - Closest Male Big Kid Friend Fern Walters - 1st Closest Female Big Kid Friend Sue Ellen Armstrong - 2nd Closest Female Big Kid Friend James MacDonald - Closest Male Kid Friend Buster Baxter - Friend via Arthur Alan "Brain" Powers - Friend via Arthur Shelley "Binky" Barnes - Friend via Arthur Molly MacDonald - Friend via James
Enemies: D.W. Read Cora Francine Frensky Muffy Crosswire Timmy Tibble Tommy Tibble
Likes: Pranking his siblings for fun, pranking his enemies for spite, semi-cloudy soft-windy days, winter and spring, scavenger hunt, sleeping in his (not-so) secret hiding spots, Bionic Bunny, Dark Bunny, his adoptive brother, their friends, and especially his crushes: Fern and Sue Ellen.
Dislikes: His meal interrupted (he gets grumpy), harsh sunny days especially in summer, practically almost anything D.W. likes (Mary Moo Cow, Crazy Bus, Tina the Talking Tabby, etc.), and anybody who picks on his siblings (only he gets to do it)
Personality: Tony is just your typical little toddler boy, who is a curious thrill/adventure seeker. He is just ready any form of excitement and yet knows when to sit down and relax. And although Tony can be slightly carefree and mischievous, he has a lot of more common sense than he leads, for a kid. Tony even throws snarks every now and then, most notably just to mess with his big brother Arthur and their friends. Plus Tony seems to have a short temper, especially when it comes to the nonsense of obnoxious and spoiled brats, and all those who wrong his family and friends. He can be a bit protective. And not to mention, surprisingly, Tony can be extremely shy when meeting girls he likes, specifically Fern Walter and Sue Ellen. Although, he later on, he builds his confidence around them. Tony is oblivious when preschool girls have a crush on him. He's just not used to being crushed on. Plus being adopted can be a sensitive topic for Tony when someone tease him about it. Tony, however, resent the fact that David and Jane have favorite D.W. This is also a sensitive topic.
Bio: Tony Read is the adoptive younger brother of the titlcular character: Arthur Read. Tony's birth parents were family-friends of David and Jane Read. However his parents unfortunately passed away due to different circumstances (child birth and car accident).
After the deaths of their friends, David and Jane adopted Tony to honor them. Tony has live a decent life with his adoptive family, mostly with his brother Arthur, who doesn't seem mind too much to take him with him around despite the sibling rivalry between them. D.W., on the other hand, cause trouble for Tony as much as she does with Arthur. However, Tony retaliates by pranking her. Tony can be prideful, which is essentially his downfall. He take pride when it comes to his schemes or skills and talents. He never see it could lead into consequences to bigger ones that are almost too much to handle.
Since Arthur took Tony to hang with his friends ever since Arthur was in the 2nd grade, Tony got along with Buster, Brain, and Binky very well. Although, Tony can't stand Francine's arrogant attitude and Muffy's bratty behavior, all remind him too much of D.W., and how they antagonize his big brother despite being Arthur's "friends". And Tony got make a friend of his when meeting George. He found George to be a fun and interesting guy, and loves his puppet play. And he got acquainted with George's friend Carl. Of course, when Tony first met Fern, he had a huge crush on her. Tony thinks Fern is adorable. Initially he often goes quiet as he's extremely shy when seeing face-to-face with her, and as well as goes hiding. After gaining his confidence to talk to Fern, they became friends. He enjoy mysteries and detective stuff with her, and he doesn't mind scary stuff. And since Sue Ellen moved in to Elwood City, Tony's had the same reaction when meeting a new crush, he was timid around Sue Ellen yet he is interested in her. Tony thinks Sue Ellen is cool as she's brave and knows martial arts. He even ask Sue Ellen for lessons on a couple of moves. Tony thinks Sue Ellen is cute too. They became good friends as well.
Of course Tony does make friends at preschool, like James MacDonald, who they became good friends after Tony leads the conversation and protect him from the Tibble Twin's shenanigans. Emily is another preschooler that Tony made good friends with even back when D.W. doesn't like her being perfect. Yet Tony does tease D.W. that Emily is better than her in every way. Although, Tony does not like Tibble Twins at all, considering how obnoxious and loud they are. Though, of all the kids to bombard with pranks, the Tibble twins are Tony's favorite targets
Trivia: - I figured that if Arthur had a younger brother as suppose to he had a twin brother relationship with Buster and see an older brother in Brain, I thought it would be interesting how he would handle a younger brother. - Plus I wanna have Arthur interact with Fern and George more. So the connection they had with Tony makes it possible. - I also figure that how D.W. would handle against someone who doesn't care she has parental favoritism on her side.

Who is your favorite author?
Honestly, since I read a lot and across various genres, I don't have a specific favourite author.
Haruki Murakami, Anita Desai, Markus Zusak, Amy Tan, Jane Austen, Fyodor Dostevesky, Bo-Young Kim, Jhumpa Lahiri, Ruskin Bond, Madeline Miller, Charles Dickens, Timothy Zahn, Arthur C.Clarke
These are some that I guess would fall in the category, but again it keeps changing as I read more works; and anyways it is very hard, at least for me, to quantitatively compare writers...
What about you? What are your favourite authors?

Two passions of mine are lists and family trees/next generations. One of my bigger gripes with the Fandom Wiki is that they will put absolutely everything to be a character category... aside from “next generation”...
So, I’m making my own list of next generation characters from all over the multiverse. Which is ungrateful, to be quite frank, due to how hard they are to find if you haven’t met them personally in a comic yet.
Which brings us to this post. Consider it a WIP as well as an ask for help. If you are as interested in next gen characters as I am, look at the shiny list! If you have read comics including next gen characters not listed here, please tell me the source and name so I can add them!
(Listed in braces behind are home Earth and continuity; if nothing is listed, it’s a child from the main continuity. Also, the list is in alphabetical order by hero alias, so if you want to just check a particular hero, that’s where you’ll find them.)

With Mera:
Arthur Curry Jr. (New Earth main continuity; dead and also erased)

Tonight I’m feeling all kinds of nostalgia. I want to see Dan and Casey on my TV telling me about The Sports. I want to watch John Sheppard get so emotionally constipated that he'd rather fly his F302 into a sun rather than tell Rodney how he feels, while Parrish goes on and on about some new plant until Lorne kisses him silly. I want Merlin to get kidnapped and watch Arthur menace every single person in his kingdom until Merlin is safe. I want to read about Bitty baking a few pies for the Haus while Ransom & Holster jam out, Lardo & Shitty get high on the Reading Room, Chowder & Caitlin snuggle, Nursey & Dex argue about every. little. thing. and Jack comes to the Haus unexpectedly and wraps Bitty up in his arms. I want Monroe to torture Nick Burkhardt with some new vegan recipe and they play argue until they get called to Grimm duties. I want Donald Strachey to take Timothy Callahan by the hand, put down his martini, and dance one more slow song in the moonlight.
I miss all my boys tonight.
