these r gonna be stream of consciousness bear w me ill keep it short bc imlazy
goro is born into the sport bc shido is like an intl tennis superstar but as with canon he dgaf about goro at all. his mom is dead too. etc. he probably never sees his dad except on tv and hes probably tossed around various boarding schools/tennis camps/etc so goro strives to become even BETTER of a player than his dad so 1) shido looks at him and acknowledges him and respects him 2) he can SURPASS him. thats his entire goal. anyway he prob shoulders huge expectations like oh thats ur dad so u must be a good player right and then those expectations he inflcits on himself.
sumire picks up tennis maybe around age 9-10 or so, when before that she did rhythmic gymnastics with kasumi. but even from an early age she was discontented by how Good kasumi was, almost intrinsically, and she had a gut feeling that made her switch tracks to tennis - also a sort of independent sport where SHE HERSELF can succeed on the court, without needing to depend on others. yet she still feels pressured by kasumi's success which gets in her way a lot. she feels determined to carve a name for herself bc THIS is the path she chose, so she better fucking make it count. those expectations on herself weigh heavily as well. in addition i think her parents literally dont gaf like if she becomes an intl superstar (not maliciously they just genuinely want sumire to be happy and dont demand success of her) but she kinda is like "wow they dont expect anything of me because im bad at it? then ill just have to become AMAZING so theyll have to be astounded" kinda thing
meanwhile akira was always a sporty/athletic kid, he doesnt have much attn from his parents so hes just doing whatever. soccer baseball basketball the works. but he picks up tennis at maybe age 13 and hes GOOD. so he immediately gets like scouted and Trained and he like improves in record time. hes real chill and relaxed about it though because he never Needed tennis the way sumire and goro do. hes just out here for fun and games literally. if he wins he wins - but the thing is, akira kurusu hates losing. thats the thing that propels him to the top.
shujin academy is still the same private school we know but they also house a tennis academy known as the shujin tennis academy yeah yeahyaeeayhah and they just train the coolest of players and the royal trio r their pride and joy etc

Vent post y'all are gonna hate me for.
I viscerally hate how the Duffers treat most of their non white or queer characters and I hate even more viscerally, how y'all big byler blogs in your circle jerk of other 5 big byler blogs casually like to ignore many red flags the show has.
Y'all like to say: "tHe DufFeRs ArE gReAt WrIteRs" and it's like girl, who are you lying to??? They aren't top shit writers at all. The Duffers are pretty mid imo. Yeah, they run a good show that's fun to watch and theorize abt , but that doesn't mean they're good writers cuz they're not.
1. they completely side lined Will during s3 for the sake of their straight romances: lumax, jancy, mlvn, duzie and partly stobin (even if stobin wasn't endgame, thankfully, Steve's intentions were clearly wanting to date Robin and they gave it a lot of screen time). Will was sidelined bc he didn't fit the straight romance plotline bc they planned to make him gay or whatever. Now in s4 Will and his feelings have been used as mlvn toilet paper. Yes, we like to say this is build up for byler but canonically, Will's feelings have been used to clean the shit mlvn leaves behind.
2. Billy was sympathized a lot during the last 2 seasons. They gave him the sad backstoryTM in order for ppl to feel sorry for him. Billy's backstory is literally Jonathan's but whatever.
3. El's anger issues are constantly girlboss-ified. They down play her bullying situation and literally just use it for El to be a ''girlboss" without realizing how triggering that is. As someone who has lived bullying, seeing it be ignored by canon and fanon is super sad. The whole Rink-O' Mania experience must have been so traumatizing for her yet, everyone absolutely forgets abt it 🤷🏻♀️
4. Robin, Erica and Argyle are stereotypical characters. Robin is the quirky lesbian with social anxiety, Erica is the badass black woman and Argyle is the Latino stoner that sells weed to white kids and works as a pizza delivery guy.
5. Altho Argyle and Eddie both do drugs, (Eddie actually sells K-12 to a minor and nobody batted an eye. He has a huge fan base). Eddie is held in a pedestal bc "poor thing 🥺 he lives in a trailer with his uncle 🥺". Tell me a single fact you know abt Argyle that isn't "he smokes weed", "he is Jonathan's only friend", "drives a van" and "he works at a pizzeria". Exactly, Eddie is given a useless backstory and Argyle isn't.
6. Dustin stopped being important to the plot sometime around s2 and s3. He is only there to curse and be mildly funny. My guy needs to hangout with ppl his age cuz he only hangs out with seniors.
7. El needs to stop having so much "I'M THAT BITCH" screentime like I need in s5 for El's arc to not just be her becoming more powerful and falling in love with Mike. I need the Duffers to explore her trauma and problems.
8. Angela should have been run over by the van.
9. Patrick should have been given a backstory that isn't the basic "strict black parents that hit their kids cuz they are a disgrace". Patrick's backstory is actually racist af, fight w the wall.
10. As Lex already said, they didn't trigger tag the ep where Jason and his friends assault Lucas and Erica. Like wtf? Why was that necessary? Why did I have to see a black boy being held at gunpoint by some white guy?? Was it relevant to the plot?? I don't think so. And then I've got to see ppl online be like "Jason wasn't that bad. He was just mourning" like bitch you can stfu. This is what happens when you make the racist assholes conventionally attractive.
Also the fact that Lucas's arc is fulfilled by him fist-fighting Jason and "embracing his weirdness" aka accepting he is black. His arc was not fulfilled at all cuz that ending spoke so loud to me. It showed how little empathy ppl have towards the struggles poc ppl living in the Midwest have. Y'all circle jerks can only see racism when it's super obvious.
Furthermore, parents complained when ST showed "an excessive amount of smoking" yet nobody batted an eye when Billy tried to run over Lucas, when Erica (an 11 y.o ffs) was chased by white kids or when Lucas was held at gunpoint by Jason.
All of this happened while they focused on Max's guilt and mourning that, yeah, are important but certainly not less important than racism!!!
11. In s3, they gave us that whole Nancy vs The Bigots arc that was honestly just triggering and useless. It didn't help Nancy's character at all, quite the opposite it put unnecessary angst.
12. Lonnie being presented as an abuser just for him to never be spoken of again. Can we please get to explore the trauma he left the Byers's with?
13. The fact that both queer relationships are considered "sloppy seconds" is extremely sad. Both Vickie and Mike are rebounding from their failed relationship with Robin and Will. These 2 ships have caused more commotion than Jancy and Jopper together! (These last ships are technically sloppy seconds too but everybody forgets that. Shocker!!)
14. Last but not least, ppl blame Argyle for being the one to get Jonathan into smoking weed as if Jonathan probably wasn't the one looking for it. Let me tell you, that you only find weed if you look for it.

Ben is like stupidly amazing with kids.
Sally loves him, she thinks he's the coolest in the manor and lets her say bad words sometimes, and even has a tea party once in a while.
Jeff isn't the greatest, and usually has a knack for making small children cry.
So when an orphaned child wanders up to the manor, and they're scheduled to babysit until Slender gets home, they agree to watch you until sunset.
Jeff has absolutely no clue what to do with you, and doesn't even think to offer you a snack or something to drink.
Ben is already returning from the kitchen with little packets of crackers and one of Sally's juice boxes.
Jeff will pick you up and plop you down at the table, sitting next to you and try to make an attempt at conversation.
But again, he's terrible with children, and tries asking you if you've seen the new GTA 6 trailer.
You look at him weird before continue munching on your crackers. You even go as far as scooting away from him a little bit.
Jeff is embarrassed by a 5 year old, but pretends he's not bothered by it. Ben sees right through his facade, and snickers to himself behind a well placed cough..
Ben knows how make you feel more comfortable, asking questions about you, because what else would a 5 year old have to talk about?
Their whole world consists of things that they do, not whatever sport was on TV last night or a new game that's being released, you were too young for that talk. The most interesting person they know is themself.
But no matter how many questions Ben tries to ask, you don't give them a glimpse of information about how you got here.
"So, where were you before you found us?"
"Literally, I don't even know, stop asking me. But today I found a frog and I put him in my pocket, and then I started to play the drums and Roblox at the same time but the frog didn't like it and-"
They agree to take you to the game room so you can mess around with whatever you can get your grubby hands on, whether it be the foosball table, the N64 scattered on the ground, the 30,000 dollar pool table-
THE THIEIRTY THOUSNAND DOALRA-
Jeff is faster than Ben, and swoops you up with a 'nOOoonononono', and you think it's the funniest thing that he's holding you upside down, because you laugh so hard you run out of breath.
And while Ben re-organizes the pool balls back into their neat little triangle, Jeff has fun just swinging you about, finding it amusing how easy children are entertained.
One way up, one way back down, swing you around in a circle like a football, dangle you by an ankle and toss you up to catch you. Like a little rhythm game.
He remembers back to his own childhood, the moments where his parents actually liked being parents, and his father tossing hm repeatedly on the couch, which of course is passed down to you.
"Again!"
"AGAAINN??? UGGHH!"
And you think it's hilarious how he's so annoyed, yet does it anyway. And secretly, he loves it.
And Ben loves watching him love it, like he gets to see a glimpse into Jeff's past that he never wants to talk about.
But eventually, as all children do, you grow tired, and instead of running back toward Jeff, you stay on the couch and curl up to watch whatever is flickering on the TV.
Ben will return with popcorn, and Jeff is sitting on the ground in front of you, showing you how to play this old vintage game called "The Mario Bros." that's only 8 pixels deep in graphics quality.
Ben holds a somewhat bittersweet smile, as he walks over and delivers the popcorn. After some thought he joins in as Player 2, and let's you get the sleep you so much needed.

Can I ask what makes Arlecchino evil? I'm v much a villain enjoyer and like some morally greyness, but I genuinely didn't pick up on a lot of bad stuff with Arlecchino. She was super helpful during Fontaine and seemed to be the only powerful person who cared about helping the common folk when the water levels were rising.
I'm not here to start an argument, just wanna expand my view 🙏
dw didnt think u want to argue! i will also use this to say i wont tolerate arguments, this goes for everyone here
i will talk about sensitive themes under the cut (mentions of when i was groomed/emotionally abused by my adoptive father/mentions of abuse/grooming in general) so if someones not good with this, be warned please and dont click for your emotional comfort.
i really love arlecchino (theres also difficult, personal reasons ig) and id rather wait for her to arrive to get more information than we have so far through other characters/side quests/main quest but well.
her goals aligned with ours in the fontaine quest which is why we have the impression shes a good/nice person, especially considering our other meetings with the harbingers we met so far (signora, childe, scara, dottore) and the situations. shes very calm and diplomatic (lets see how it changes in the next update when we fight her)
but we shouldnt forget how the travellers on their toes the entire time/everytime they come in contact with arle. its because shes a harbinger after all. shes a danger. her graceful politeness and calmness is supposed to have you on guard, make your hairs rise. shes mentioned to be manipulative and shes manipulating others to achieve what she wants by being nice and calm. she has ulterior motives. we should be careful. this is my impression based on my own gaming experience and idk if it was the same w others, but bc of us being on guard around her i was always prepared for her to turn on us until the end of the main quest.
anw, arle is supposed to be intimidating and have you wary. even tho she comes off as nice and polite, having done good and helped in the main story. its bc thats what she wanted and you happened to have the same goal. also lets not forget scaras and childes thoughts about her which already tells a lot
she has two sides. the one we saw in the quest, the graceful, calm, polite face to get what she wants. and the other, the one scara and childe talk about here, the one they call "crazy"
not to mention her codename, "the knave". what does it mean? servant. what else does it mean? "dishonest/deceitful man". basically, swindler. isnt it perfect?
shes manipulative and whatever her "true" nature is, we dont know (yet). she may have "good intentions" here or there but will achieve them no matter what it takes.
as for the thing you can consider as bad; the house of the hearth is an orphanage that raises children into fatui agents. only those who have potential join the ranks while the others are kept close (its not known whats done with them afaik). theyre basically grooming/raising child soldiers/spies.
before the sensitive stuff comes up, for the ppl who dont want to proceed, arlecchino fools/manipulates you into thinking shes a nice person/good parent. its amazing and so in character for her. its also scary how some ppl cant see the abuse/manipulation unless you went through this too or well. just actually read and realize it.
arlecchino is an emotionally manipulative parental figure. now, this is coming from someone who went through heavy abuse/was groomed by their adoptive father who was extremely manipulative and i spot so many things very well known to me. others who went through the same get this feeling. these signs you immediately recognize.
you get punished for the tiniest mistakes and when you get loved, it makes you forget all that was done to you, just for that tiny bit of affection you crave. you try to do your best, to do everything asked and expected of you, not to disappoint the only parent you have and youre dependent on, to be a good kid deserving of love and when you slip up youre in shambles. there was a time i did a tiny mistake by accident and my father said to me in the coldest voice "you broke my trust" and i remember so vividly how it broke me, how i cried until i got sick. i was physically abused before and none of it hurt me more than this. it still gets to me after all those years. emotional manipulation is cruel
what im trying to say is, she came in a time of need. taken as a savior while it just is one abuser swapped out with another. like my adoptive father having me dependent, giving me love i never received and being everything i wanted, making me believe hes everything i need, a common thing abusers do. wanting to do everything youre asked of and do it good, the fear of disappointing and being punished, believing you deserved it bc its your fault and treating your abuser like a savior, being conditioned. this is whats happening.
now, arle genuinely loves and protects her children; its very clear that the life of the children matter to her the most (look at childes line and freminet/lynette etc) - she was one of them too after all. so, its possible to love and still do these. moral greyness etcetc
anyway idk if its understandable or if i can explain it in proper words while maintaining a good distance so ill add the voicelines of the siblings heavily implying this, and also a tweet adressing this that brings it to proper words, better than i can say

saw these floating around, inspired by this post (https://www.tumblr.com/kammieceleek/684194629204279296/send-me-a-ship-and-ill-tell-you) and I wanted to do it with Jally bc I have neglected posting about them for way too long and i always have headcanons floating around my brain
who is more likely to hurt the other?
probably Dally. he has a habit of talking before he thinks, especially when he's mad, and he can be cutting when he's in a bad mood.
who is emotionally stronger?
Johnny. He can take a lot before he finally breaks down.
who is physically stronger?
it's an even tie, with Dallas only winning by a little.
who is more likely to break a bone?
Dallas. he already has a handful of times, both before and after he met Johnny, including breaking two fingers (at seperate times), his nose, a handful of ribs and his foot once.
who knows best what to say to upset the other?
Johnny. He's quiet at times, but he's observant, not to mention he's the kind of person most of his friends feel comfortable enough around to tell him about their problems or insecurities. He pays attention to things that other people usually assume he wouldn't notice, which gives him plenty of room to say just the right thing to sting.
who is most likely to apologise first after an argument?
Johnny. Mostly out of anxiety coming from his parents' arguments. He doesn't like the idea of someone, especially someone he loves, being angry with him and he hates the stiff silence after an argument. He usually apologises as quickly as he can to shut things down before they can turn out like his parents.
who treats who’s wounds more often?
It's an even mix. Both of them are usually sporting injuries on any given day, either from fights with their parents or fights with other people around town, so they both end up having to play nurse for the other.
who is in constant need of comfort?
Johnny. He has a lot of relationship anxiety after watching his parents implode on each other for years, so he has a hard time feeling secure in his interactions with Dallas.
who gets more jealous?
Dallas. He tends to keep it to himself, to avoid coming off as too aggressive. He doesn't want to scare Johnny off or anything like that, but more often then not his jealousy bleeds through his denial anyway.
who’s most likely to walk out on the other?
probably Dallas. He’s been just bouncing around, doing whatever he wants for so long now that he’s not used to sticking things out.
who will propose?
They feel like the type of couple to both be meaning to propose for ages but be too scared to bite the bullet just yet and then end up accidentally popping the question at the same time.
who has the most difficult parents?
Johnny, since we don’t know much about either of Dallas’ parents.
who initiates hand-holding when they’re out in public?
lol it’s the 60s so neither of them, but if we pretend for a second that’s it’s not then Dallas. Johnny would be too worried about pushing and making him uncomfortable when he’s not ready to make the first move in that regard.
who comes up for the other all the time?
I don’t really know what come up for means so idk lol
who hogs the blankets?
Dallas. He tosses and turns like crazy in his sleep, so he usually ends up dragging the blanket with him.

Johnny, since Dallas represses it as much as he can, whenever he can.
who is better at cheering the other up?
Johnny. He’s one of those people who’s just very reassuring to be around when you’re having a hard time.
who’s the one that playfully slaps the other all the time after they make silly jokes?
Dallas. Johnny could say the stupidest, corniest pun or joke and Dally would still snort and slap his shoulder.
who is more streetwise?
Dallas, but Johnny’s not far behind him. He’s only got him beat bc of all the time he spent in New York.
who is more wise?
Johnny. He’s a lot more emotionally mature, among other things.
who’s the shyest?
Johnny. He can shut down or not talk much when around new people or just a lot of people, most likely due to his issues with his parents. He doesn’t want to say the wrong thing and set anybody off.
who boasts about the other more?
Surprisingly Dallas. Tim’s probably considered strangling him just so he’d stop rambling about Johnny’s eyes or how nice he is despite everything that’s happened any time he gets alcohol in his system. He can’t help it, he’s still in shock that someone like Johnny would be interested in him that way.

Dallas, since they’d probably only do smth like that in a private setting, considering the time period lol

time skips, that’s the last time you have seen niki. You still have not gotten the boy’s name yet but all you’ve been thinking of during your shift before term break was him. How he didn’t show up at all after that last interaction. Which made you kinda disappointed. But nothing less, term break comes and you get to hang out with the one and only - heeseung. Which made you take your mind off from the boy for awhile, which you’re very grateful for.

My little shot of alcohol in my hand as a chuck it down my throat. Having a break from all the chaotic mess with my family was refreshing. I peaked over heeseung, who was still on his phone. Since I got curious I started looking what is he browsing. Seeing him swiping through his friends story made me chuckle “cool friends you got there. They look like a couple.” I laughed as I read the story caption. “Oh yeah haha..” he sounded kinda hesitant but whatever. After reading the caption my eyes shifted to the boy. He looked oddly familiar, I have definitely- nvm. Yes I totally seen him. The guy who caught me about a week ago. With another girl who I have no clue who but I guess her name is Isabella. Fuck why do I feel hurt.. I don’t even like you this way. I think heeseung saw how my mood change so he switched his phone off before I can even see his username. “Anyways let’s continue our game shell me?” He said before raising his glass towards me. Our glass clinked against each other before we downed our beverage down our throat, tryna get rid of those negative thoughts.

Touching on a topic I've mentioned in the past; about how The girls are lucky the manager is the way she is.
People who have been on the team with the manager years before, make it a point to tell the freshman to "Be grateful that she's as understanding and empathetic as she is, don't take it for granted." I see the manger as someone who was doing summer training before she officially became the manger, and had some situations to deal with then and very quickly showed that she may be remorseful, but she will not put up with your shit.
I've talked about how the manager want's to be petty soooo fucking bad when the girls hurt her, or piss her off, or whatever; but she can't. She understands. Going back to the manager being an academic weapon I heavily suspect that due to the broken family she came from, she's taken Psychology classes to try and understand why. How does the brain work, why did her dad leave, why is her mom barely present.
She wanted answers so she threw herself into Psychology thinking that that was going to give her what she wanted, but quickly she realized the harsh reality of the actions of the people around her. It wasn't some chemical deficiency, It wasn't an Illness, people just sometimes are like that. This realization really took a tole on her, I feel like us as people have that realizations sometimes that people are just bad people regardless of what mentality they have. There was no excuse.
During this time she also got familiar with co existence within cause and effect:
Yes she is resilient, and she needs a break.
Yes she was sure, and things change.
Yes she forgives that person, and that does not mean acsess.
Yes others have it worse, and your pain is still valid.
Yes she gave it her all, and she needs to back up.
Yes her parent's did all they could, and their choices wounded her.
Yes she can understand the situation, your frustration, your emotions, and that does not mean that it was right to take it out on her.
And I feel like that ^ always sends the girls and even Geno into a loop. Of how understanding she it whilst also standing 10 toes down on that boundary that just because she understands, does not mean it was okay. Being stern yet caring, putting up a border for space because she needs it, but it's soft enough to touch when she's needed.
When any of the girls know they fucked up, while they may be hesitant, and sensing the aura the manger is giving them. They still feel comfortable stepping up and apologizing when they feel ready. She's build this empire of warmth and nurturing covered with fences full of thorns as a reminder of acceptance but stinging realizations.
There's that comfort but also that professional boarder that she also puts up, not to caring and kind to make it seems as though what happened was okay & they're back on good terms, but not cold and stoic enough to make it seem as through they've revived someone who is just their manager and a void of who used to be their friend.

Kazuha would be one of the best big brothers in Teyvat. You honestly would feel so lucky because out of all people, Kazuha was your sibling.
Kazuha would be a bit protective, even more when you're hanging out with him in a crowded area or something. But he also wants you to have freedom, so it's veryy hard to tell if Kazuha feels worried if you go out on your own. You rarely go out without Kazuha, though.
When you want a hug, Kazuha would kneel down to your hight, wrapping one arm around your shoulders and his other hand would be lightly petting your back.
He would love when you both hold hands. It gives him comfort and reassurance that you're still beside him, even though you'll never get lost because of his keen senses and communication with the wind. And he just really likes how your little hand fits right into his larger one.
You were way too young to remember what happened to the Kaedehara clan. Sometimes you were curious what happened to your parents. You don't remember them at all. If you ask Kazuha, he would say that it was a story for another time, and pat your head. He doesn't want to disappoint you, after all.
If you ever run up to him out of nowhere, Kazuha would turn around and bend down a bit to place his hands on his knees, smiling lovingly, hearts basically swirling around his head. Even if he was just in an argument with someone. The person he was just talking to wouldn't be able to get Kazuha's attention again, since it was all directed towards you, unless you point that person out.
If it was a particularly hot day, Kazuha would cast little gusts of wind towards you, only for you.
When Kazuha has a bad day, you would always try to calm him down from his bad thoughts. You would give him a glass of water and attempt to cook or bake a little snack for him. Kazuha's day would already feel better, knowing that you tried your best to make him happy.
If Kazuha still looked a bit sad or annoyed after that (never annoyed at you, though), you would lead him to his bed, sit him down and brush his hair. Kazuha has to slouch a bit since you can't reach the top of his head.
Now he would be the one feeling lucky. Kazuha had such a caring younger sibling that wanted the best for him, after all. You did all that, just for him <3

He would watch as you make friends with the other adventures on the island, happy that you're having fun :)
Kazuha was sitting down in the little tent, observing everyone.
You asked Mona if she wanted to race you around the island. "Well, that sounds fun. Hmhm, I bet I can run faster than you," Mona smirked, teasing you. When she said that, Fischl came up to you two.
"Oh? Dost thou wish to declare a battle of speed? One hopes to be included in this group of loyal subjects who seek to challenge thy haste." Fischl put a hand on her hip, the other pointing up at the sky.
You barely understood her, but played along anyway. "Do not fret, loyal subjects of Teyvat. For thy Prinzessin has descended upon this land!" With your hands waving on the sides of your face, you giggled.
Fischl put a hand to her face, looking mysterious. "Correct. I, Fischl von Luftschloss Narfidort, have come a long way!" She exclaimed, smiling proudly.
Mona scoffed. "Hmph, enough of your royal introduction. Time to test our true strength. Let us race to that rock and back!" She pointed towards a huge rock that was in the distance.
You nodded and looked back at Fischl. "My princess, Lady Megistus is no match for your divine powers!"
Xinyan sat down next to Kazuha. "You know, Kazuha, it's pretty rare to have a sibling relationship like yours. You guys almost never fight, you must be lucky." She looked next to her at Kazuha.
He nodded. "Everyday, I do feel lucky. The gods have blessed me with such a nice little sibling."
When everyone enters Kazuha's mirage, you were alone. Not even Kazuha was in sight. It was probably because outside the mirage, Kazuha didn't want you to find out the truth. So you tried investigating about your past in secret, alone. Which didn't work that well, of course.
While you were walking around, the Inazuman house was very quiet, except for the occasional conversations of shadows. You always stopped to listen to them.
The mirage only showed you the memories that Kazuha did not want you to know. He was planning on telling you when you grew up and matured, enough to know that he tried his best. What Kazuha didn't know was that you were already smart enough.
You kept walking through the long and wide hallway, a bit saddened. Actually, you were devastated. Not because you were from a fallen clan. It was because your big brother went through all of this, while trying to take care of you.
Hearing another shadow's voice, you stopped to look at it. It looked like Kazuha, holding a sleeping toddler. You thought it looked wholesome.
"I don't want you to grow up knowing that our clan has collapsed." He was gently rocking the little one. Curious, you thought if that toddler was you.
"Knowing that your older brother is a criminal..." His voice was hushed and felt sad. A criminal? You tried remembering a shadow talking about Kazuha being a criminal, but you couldn't remember any. So, when that memory was done playing, you kept walking.
The next memory wasn't just a conversation, it was a fight, showing the shadows do more than just stand there. It introduced you to Kazuha's friend, Tomo. You saw how close they were, like they were brothers.
The memory also showed you Tomo's fight with the Raiden Shogun... And how Kazuha ran away with his friend's vision burning his hand. You thought maybe that was why he called himself a criminal.
You were going to start walking again when you realized you were at the end of the hallway. There was a room with a desk. It had a lamp and note on top. You had no choice but to pick it up and read it.
'Hello father, how are you doing?
I'm currently with Y/n, showing them the sunset from a steep mountain. The scenery is beautiful here, and I'm glad I can share it with my little sibling. I have to remind myself to bring my Kamera next time. Oh, Y/n wants to write something.'
The next line was too hard to read. The person who wrote it had such messy handwriting, it was probably a toddler.
'Haha, they meant to say "Hi papa." Y/n really misses you, you know. Anyway, I hope you and the rest are doing well. See you soon.
Kazuha'
You couldn't remember writing this or seeing the sunset. You wished you did, it would've been a core memory, something to treasure for eternity.
You folded the paper and hid it in your pocket, hoping that the mirage will let you keep it after you left.
Um, so... How do you leave?
Before you could get worried over that thought, you saw the group that was seperated from you enter the room. Kazuha was there, too.
They all asked if you were okay, asked if you saw or heard any clues about Kazuha's life. You were about to point out the hallway of memories, but when you turned around, it was gone. Replaced by a wooden wall to complete the room you were placed in.
So, you just decided to tell Kazuha when you two were alone at the camp.
When it was about time to sleep, you called out for your big brother. You both sat down on the sand. You decided to show him the letter first, which miraculously was still in your pocket.
Kazuha was smiling while he read the note. When he was done, he laughed softly. "I remember when we wrote this. You told me you wanted to fly into the horizon."
"You pouted when you couldn't write clearly, so I told you it was okay," Kazuha said while he patted your head. You smiled as well.
You figured out that you didn't have the heart to tell Kazuha everything you found out. It was a story for another time.
You just hoped that your mirage wouldn't show your knowledge of it.

Let’s start with my mom: My mom is not the worst mom. I love her so much that it hurts. She could just be better like all the other parents in the world. Like once she kicked me out of the house bc of my stepdad who cheated on her multiple times and treated her like absolute shit. She would purposely put my little sister off to the side (which doesn’t make sense bc my step dad is her father😭) and would put her on me and my older sister. She used to constantly criticized me on how my hair looked, how I dressed,and more. But that motivated me. I changed up my wardrobe, started learning how to do my hair, bought makeup, everything. I did it not only bc of what she would say but what people at school would say. Which when I told her I was getting bullied at school, she told me to just stand up for myself and when I told her I didn’t know how, she would ridicule me about that too. Another time she flat out told me I wasn’t wanted. AT A PUBLIC POOL. There were worse times than others but I’m glad I still have a good relationship with my mom. Not everyone is as lucky as me
Now my dad on the other hand, fuck him. First off, when I was growing up he was a poor excuse of a father. He still is but that’s wtv🙄. He would bail on me at times even though he promised. And when his health got worse, he started to treat me like a maid. I do currently live with my dad and for the past few months, I have to do almost everything for him. He’s always like “Kenya do this for me” and “Kenya do that for me”. He asks me for so much that sometimes he pays me. I cook for him, I clean for him sometimes, I get things for him and what I don’t do, my grandma does. And let me tell you, my grandma is a strong woman bc I would have gave up a long time ago if I was her. This man is ungrateful, lazy, a piece of shit, and a overall bad person. He smells first of all at his big grown age, my grandma cleans up after him, and the reason I say he’s ungrateful is bc recently when he got back from the hospital bc of a knee injury, my grandma had stripped his bed and he got mad. He said and I quote “I told her what to do and she just did whatever she wanted to do.” So I said “you’re lucky she washed anything. Just ungrateful.” And this dumbass nigga had the audacity to say to me “I didn’t ask for your fucking attitude Kenya. You sit in here and let her do the shit.” Referring to her stripping his bed and cleaning his sheets. I just walked off before I hurt him bc he can be such a pain in the fucking ass, you know? Like y grandma is not getting any younger and you’re just putting more stress on her. And what kills me is he got a degree and never did anything with it bc he’s a failure. Why go to college and never have a career? What makes me mad about that is some people never got the chance to go to college and you just threw your life away like nothing? And he can’t even blame it on his health bc ITS HIS FAULT IN THE FIRST PLACE. It’s all those years of terrible eating and unhealthy decisions that got you in this place.
I could really talk about my dad for hours and how much I hate that man. But what’s crazy is I would still be sad if he died. Sometimes I feel like I wouldn’t though

and for the doing everything around the house, i also relate to that. my mom has me and my siblings clean the entire house, she used to withhold food or sleep until we got things done, she would scream and more that i’d rather just not get into but luckily she’s too old to do that anymore— or we’re too big. but i don’t know why some parents think their children were made to serve them? like we’re our own people with our own lives. you wouldn’t like to be doing something like this for free so what makes you think i want to?
and i hope u don’t take this the wrong way but your dad sounds insanely immature. like as a grown ass man you’re yelling at your child and your mother over some bedsheets!?! just hearing abt it is making my blood boil
and then i said how you’d still be sad if he died omg i felt that
my dad was abusive and had been absent for god knows how long but if i randomly got some shit in the mail saying he died…? i think i’d still feel some sadness over it and it makes me even more upset that he can make me feel anything when he doesn’t deserve any of it

Ended up talking gender with my mom today bc a childhood friend also came out as trans. She seemed upset that I’m disappointed in her for not using my name and that I didn’t feel safe or backed up by her. And she kept saying she’s worried it’s a phase and that it’s harder for her to change how she sees and talks about her own kids., it’s easier with other people’s kids. And she doesn’t understand if she’s supposed to call me her daughter, or call my partner my girlfriend or whatever. And I understand- she’s new to this. I haven’t explained my preferences yet. It’s a different generation and she doesn’t know anything about nonbinary gender and pronouns. But that’s no reason to make it all about her and how hard it is for her. How hard do you think it is to feel like I can’t be all of myself around my parents, and I can’t rely on them for comfort and support without being judged? Idk. I just feel like she’s known for so long and hasn’t made any effort to try to learn or understand or be supportive or show me that she’s open to talk. She’s been waiting on me to ask and push the issue, and ignoring it and hoping it will go away. I want to believe she can be better but it just feels bad rn

swarm: s1 ep 6 (spoilers!) review
+an analysis on dre’s relationships thus far
this episode has some of the most revealing content yet is also my least favorite episode, and i like most of them so far. we are given insight into dre’s family life, down to her full name and child relationship to marissa, and just how codependent she became toward marissa even after their parents had given dre up.
we also have a more nuanced take on patricia now that harris is out of the picture and is no long controlling the household and thus patricia’s perceptions of andrea, which is an amazing detail bc it allows patricia to say how she truly loved dre and wanted to help her, but a fear for marissa’s safety and disobeying harris kept her from nurturing dre the way she needed, “othering” her the way everyone except marissa did.
this also shows so strongly why ni’jah is viewed as a motherly figure. she’s everything that can be replaced in patricia, who was emotionally neglecting her through her complacency in harris’s subjugation of dre. patricia does not guide her emotionally or intellectually, so dre looks to a famous singer she idolized as a child for that very bond…which unlike her parents, can never actually leave her or isolate her, even if ni’jah also cannot respond.
it is “safer” for her to love someone who cannot say they don’t love you back, rather than attempting to facilitate that love and having it rejected. the only person dre has been able to facilitate this with is marissa who did often support her emotionally, so it is a physical drain to her the moment marissa wants to leave and be with khalid, both because she can’t handle dre’s codependency anymore and wants a life outside of her.
but dre is also so wrapped up in marissa, it is not until marissa dies that dre becomes incredibly hypersexual—likely trying to imitate marissa to model after her, not because she actually desires the guys she encounters. she is incredibly averse when men try to objectify her, and does not at all seem to care for their sexual validation outside of the “status” it temporarily gives her, feeling as empowered and in control as she thought marissa was.
despite the fact marissa succumbing to her depression reveals this could have been heavily exaggerated or not true to marissa as a person. marissa was incredibly in love with khalid to the point she felt she could not live without him, and really she herself is this “othered” depiction of mental illness she had been hiding for so long people saw in dre. people saw dre’s symptoms, said she was bad, and that’s what she “became.”
people saw them again, validated the belief that marissa was nothing like her, and so marissa heavily repressed her depression from everyone except dre—and marissa this empathizes with dre’s mental issues because she knows what it feels like. she tries to boosts dre’s confidence, because she knows what it was like to be at her lowest and doesn’t want dre falling to that.
no one would expect khalid’s cheating would be the breaking point—except dre, who couldn’t predict but had reason to think khalid was the direct cause, and not just a contributing factor, just like her need to care for dre, her parents stigma toward mental illness, etc,. in so many ways, marissa was trapped into the high expectations people held her to—so she breaks when she realizes doing all of it was really worth nothing—because khalid did not truly love her. he was likely the only person who was not putting her into this “perfect” box like everyone else, so when she no longer has him, she feels as if the world has given up on her entirely.
dre does not at all comprehend the fact that marissa was very different from who she periceved her as. she is doing whatever she thinks her “cool girl” archetype of marissa would do, trying to capture the feeling of confidence marissa evoked—which dre can only do when copying marissa’s behaviors or supporting ni’jah, as this is dre at her most outspoken. this often falls short, because she can never be marissa, who conditioned herself to behave in such a way that it became natural without feeling awkward.
and back to the biting at the party…i immediately saw the lighting for ni’jah and that was the moment i felt she was being used as a mainly motherly figure, and it was true. dre so deeply craves any sort of maternal intimacy patricia clearly never gave her, so she doesn’t know how to express that appropriately. she has given up on patricia or any sort of older woman in her life being able to nurture her properly, so she forced ni’jah into that role. and when marissa passes, she is of the belief no one can replace her, and therefore refuses to form any meaningful connections to women who are trying to form a space of security for her.
however—i feel the detective portion is way too long, and as a result the episode relies way too heavily on social media as compared to how initially the show would do it to only where needed. it was better when social media was used only as an agent for dre’s killings + showing how the loss of marissa has gotten so hard on her, she behaves as if marissa is still alive and lets it run her entire life.
too much is heard about the detective’s life, and i feel it could’ve been better to introduce her to the plot briefly, reduce those “aha” clips to local news articles, and do a sort of pulp fiction thing where she appears slowly (like the antagonists) but her role becomes more frequent.
but i so appreciate that they have a black woman in the criminal justice system who can easier empathize with the intersection between mental illness + dre never feeling like the “normal” black girl in an affluent community people thought marissa was, which highlights all the more why dre’s entire personality after marissa’s death is molded after her so incredibly quick, and in little increments throughout the season even when she’s playing more of a “damsel in distress” to get others to believe through her fashion choices.
however i think the portion with patricia’s interview is vital to giving more info on dre, as is the girl dre stabbed when they were kids. in general we are introduced to new characters way too quickly, whereas it fell seamlessly into place in previous episodes. but the underlying concept is very well done and the strongest parts of the episode are patricia’s interview.

ok everypony it is now 11pm and i am less sleepy so i will chatter about my oc idea. also @mnikhowozu hi :)
so my working name for him rn is adam white (bonus points if u can figure out the origin of these names. hint: consider some of my other characters names) but i will likely change at least the given name. i’m considering lucas but not sure, i just generally want something Classic European bc i feel like that’s what two mfs named James and Catherine would name their kid (bonus points if it’s biblical). as i’ve said i’m making the character so i can do tale of two wastelands (hopefully. if i can figure out the mod. haven’t tried yet and dk how it works so it might be complicated…) so obviously he starts as the lone wanderer
to contrast charlie (who has always dealt with barely contained rage and loathes his dad, blaming james for all the shit he had to go thru in the wasteland), adam is more forgiving to him. not that he doesn’t also have conflicting and negative feelings abt james, he does, but he also sees him as ultimately a Good Man doing things for the Bettering of Humanity. adam never had much ambition in the vault and was just kinda drifting along as he grew up, was probably gonna be a maintenance worker or something “basic”. he didn’t learn medicine from james because james never bothered to teach him and he never thought to ask to learn. BUT! later in the wasteland — most pointedly after james dies — he takes it on himself to become something of a doctor because he wants to Continue his parents’ Legacy. etc etc
i also have it in mind for him to wear a mask while traveling (think along the lines of the blastmaster helmet. except i’m actually thinking of something from the pitt i just don’t remember the name.) so just imagine this nervous 20 year old in full armor with an assault rifle comes running up to you after you were brutally beaten by a raider or something, one year post-project purity, and he’s like TRUST ME LET ME HELP IM A DOCTOR meanwhile he looks like an overblown raider boss
at his core he is a Coward and, again, not ambitious. chronically indecisive. he Wants to help but he does Not want to risk himself (though of course he does since it’s. kind of the nature of the games if ur playing a mostly-good character). this then leads him to just going along with mr. house when he gets to vegas, because he doesn’t want to rock the boat and, honestly, probably won’t even think to kill house. he has his own opinions, for sure, and he’s not a saint — the choices he does make still are bad at times. but generally, he takes the road of “what is the most helpful at large but also the easiest for Me”
also, i think the followers of apocalypse have a university in california or smth? isn’t that mentioned once or twice in fnv? not sure need to research. and also i’m aware it generally doesn’t really Match for the courier to be the lw but obviously i’m ignoring that for the sake of the mod. but, depending on whatever is going on there, the followers’ university is what i’m currently thinking of for why he went west, and he… idk, gets roped into courier work for money or for a relatively easy way to Help or something, and ends up caught up in new vegas politics

i am a little feral over that john & baby gideon art you reblogged and now i would love to hear your opinion on: in an au where john raised gideon from infancy, do you think he would have been like... a Good Dad or a Bad Dad? or somewhere in between? (disclaimer that i have not read nona yet so if there is somehow something in there that answers my question please feel free to ignore this lmao)
the way i see it (and i don't want to get too into it bc it's kinda also what thicker than water is about LOL), for john to end up with "custody" of gideon, there has to be a confrontation between him and the lyctors a la htn where the circumstances surrounding gideon's birth are revealed... which ends with the deaths of mercymorn, augustine, and prooobably(?) cytherea.
and ok. here's the thing. i think having a baby would be a GREAT distraction from the perceived betrayal of his loved ones.
like not great in the sense that i think it's a GOOD idea, or HEALTHY for either of them (gideon especially) but i think he would absolutely throw his all into Playing Dad for at least the first few years of her life.
like again, he's sad because he thinks his loved ones betrayed him. you know who typically has unconditional love for their parents, given adequate care? babies. you know who is impressionable as hell and regards their parents as the center of the universe??? young children!
and the optics!!! oh it's such a juicy opportunity for him to have wake's baby, politically. nobody seemed to know about gideon's birth except for wake and the lyctors, and now they'e all dead. john can say whatever he wants about the situation.
oh, they were star-crossed lovers, and he was so grievously betrayed by his child’s mother! your rebel leader was consorting with the enemy this whole time! your cause is so weak, even your commander had a soft spot for the kindly prince of death!
i think john would be all over that. john would be walking into military briefings with gideon strapped to his chest in a baby bjorn, letting her play with his tablet pens and chew on his baby finger crown (don't think too hard about that one.)
it's when she starts to grow up and become her own person that problems start to make themselves more clear. that's when he starts thinking marrying her off is looking like the better option. LOL
plus like, he's a busy guy, being emperor and all. i think once she starts walkin' and talkin' he ends up leaving her in the care of a dozen or so cohort officers, just like, whoever's around, it's a great honor to babysit the crown prince, u kno. then he sweeps in with gifts whenever he’s got time LOL. i think he's that kind of dad
