Hey!! Love your art and your meta posts. I was wondering about your thoughts on something because I don't think I've ever really read about much of it in canon (might be missing something though), but do the batkids have their own Brucie Wayne-esque personas? I figure they'd be expected to act a certain way, like they've been taking in by a party loving play boy, they're gonna be a at least somewhat spoilt social butterflies right? I just can't stop thinking about the kids hitting like teenhood and having to adopt and put on that kind of act because it would be a little suspicious if nothing about Brucie rubbed off on them. Maybe they steal Bruce's cars or crash a gala, something staged just for the tabloids like that. Idk, I just find the idea of (most of) the kids not being raised anything like that and having to act up in the name of keeping their identities safe really interesting because I don't think they'd find it fun, I think it would actually gross them out to throw around money and act like brats.

lovely anon this is SUCH a fun question and i shall answer it in parts. the first is this — what is the purpose of the bruce wayne persona?

bruce created a specific public image of himself for several reasons — to deflect any suspicion that he’s batman, to justify his frequent disappearances from the public eye, and to be consistently underestimated by people he was in opposition with (gothams corrupt elite, the gcpd, etc). the popular interpretation of this is that he’s like a kardashian, but to be honest id say he’s a lot more like a donatella versace— relatively reclusive but who occasionally pops up doing the weirdest shit ever. he posts on dick’s insta like bruce WAYNE ❤️

wrt his kids, no, i don’t think many of them have that sort of glamorised persona. part of it is that the “gala” trope in fandom just…… doesn’t really exist in the comics? like bruce will take vicki vale to an event, or go to a luthercorp thing to gather intel, but the idea of everyone hitting up an event at the gotham four seasons is not a common story beat. and even then, again, the performance has a purpose outside of just being a distraction.

in particular, u have to consider how his kids are different from bruce. jason and dick were both lower class, if not actively below the poverty line and acting spoiled won’t win them any favours. cass straight up isn’t interested in that kind of performance. damian is honest to a fault. duke has his own family that he’s proud of. when u consider that damian and cass and duke and dick also aren’t white, u have to think about how acting like a glitzy idiot would help them in the same way it would bruce. short answer — it very much wouldnt. many people will think less of them regardless. it would be dehumanising, and because none of them have that same degree of disconnection from the standard person that bruce has, how would them being seen as spoiled idiots help them?

dick has always lived with civilian neighbours, had civilian jobs, and fostered civilian relationships. him being a cop was bad, but he takes a lot of pride in being someone who’s like… dependable. a good neighbour. jason is legally dead, but he wouldn’t have wanted to be seen as the dumb poor kid either. cass would probably play with peoples expectations of her, but not like an established persona that she has to take on. duke is, again, very attached to his family and where he grew up, and is very aware of assumptions people might make about that. damian would rather kill himself than pretend to be an idiot. tim, again, is a strong maybe, but i also don’t think he’d give a shit. he really values keeping himself as tim drake intact, away from robin. he wants to keep being himself.

i just think most of them would stay out of the public eye. remember — bruce isn’t active online. there is still massive control over released information about him, especially with babs. i think they would purposely make themselves boring and unassuming.

the short answer is that none of them, truly, possess bruce’s raw commitment to the bit.

!spoilers for stranger things s4!

... ok im genuinely surprised that so many people are sort of giving up on will and mike getting together when ive never been this confident about a ship??? ever???

if im wrong ill take the L but Cmon Now :

• the show recap purposefully shows the mike and will scenes, putting an emphasis on their dynamic instead of the mike and el scenes

• last season el and mike were going thru it but in the end, el tells him that she loves him and he stood there sort of slack jawed and stunned and couldnt say the words back even then within that scene

• which brings us to the beginning of s4 where mike still cant say ily to el even through the letters and correspondances hes had with her, either a) cuz hes going thru some insecurity about his feelings and the show is building up to a big romantic gesture or b) because hes internally struggling and a part of him knows if he said 'ily' back to el in a romantic context, it wouldnt be true

• meanwhile will is very blatantly pining what with The very pointed slow romantic tune that plays whenever he gazes at mike for a bit too long, and he evidently has a painting for mike and im guessing its contents will be revealed in volume 2 next month

• as for the way mike is treating will, giving him a bit of the cold shoulder at first, the awkwardness and avoiding his gaze, it could be because he feels guilty and weird about how he left things tense between him and his bestie, but then again mikes attitude feels like hes going thru it with el and it could b because he has some underlying feelings for will that he hasnt realized yet and is unknowingly taking out these frustrations on will (rip)

• and i did appreciate how mike apologized to will and that heartfelt talk they had as will was packing his stuff - again, the talks and discussions they had were continuously will trying to console mike despite his shit attitude towards him, so mike finally saying that 'he doesnt deserve to be treated that way' and the Pure hopeful expression on wills face and mikes big smile when they established each other as being each others besties again,.,.,. what was the reason What was the reason

• also this has nothing to do with anything but the background posters in wills room of Jaws 1975 and the og little shop of horrors musical (the lyricist to that musical being howard ashman, a gay man) ... gay!! Gay (source for this being im a mega stan of these two things and i am gay thank you vry much)

• back to the topic at hand tho, i feel like theres some sort of specific costuming choices what with the characters outfit colour schemes and id do a deeper analysis if i knew what i was talking about

• like smthing smthing about how mike brings el yellow and blue flowers and shes dissapointed with how he still signed the bouquet by writing 'from, mike' not 'love, mike', and from what google says about flowers blue can be interpreted as representing peace or a balm to anxiousness, i read somewhere that it also represented desire and romance tho, but for yellow its apparently 'the ideal color for symbolizing friendship'

• then again will has been wearing yellow and blue plad shirts and mike has been wearing an equally chaotic mix of yellow and blue in his outfits and those are just two contrasting colours that compliment each other well, indicating that the writers just purposefully wanted their outfits to be coordinated wink wink

• and to just really get into it theres this General disconnect between el and mike and how they just arent on the same wavelenght anymore, el's message that she leaves behind for mike also being signed with a 'from, el' not 'love, el', seeming to indicate that unless mike apologizes and professes his love to her in volume 2, their romance is kinda officially fizzling out

• honestly ive always rooted for mike and el pre realizing that will and mike was a possibility in the shows plot, and what with el going THRU IT in the following episodes of season 4, i feel like her and mike latched onto each other super hard at the start of the show and whats coming to light now is that their bond is just as valid if it remains platonic

• so we dont see the california gang as much as up until episode 7 it focuses on the vecna plot, and with the last 2 episodes of the season releasing in july being longer and the usual recipe for a stranger things finale being everyone meets up near the end, im guessing will, mike and el are gonna make their way back to hawkins somehow and join the others in the upside down, either intentionally or by force

• by that i mean that theres this specific payoff that has to come with the reveal of what will was painting in episode 1, and el herself says its for a crush, and we know that crush is mike, and so will is still dragging this painting around with him in his backpack for it to be revealed at a surely emotionally charged moment for him

• think of it this way: theres surely gonna be more mike and will screentime in volume 2 now that weve gone thru all of that setup, and whats the point of heavily implying will is crushing on mike all for mike to just be like 'oh haha thx bestie im an ally and all so hashtag gay rights good for you but i love el sorryyy 🤪'

• like Why parallel how mike and el cant seem to work as a couple anymore and mike just seems desperately trying to salvage their relationship and say what she wants to hear, all while having this constant pensive and frustrated look on his face vs how mike was being super dodgey and sketchy with will to giving him these super soft looks and almost being in tears when they had that conversation and reconciled as besties for like 10 seconds?

• it seems cruel to string ur (queer) audience along with the possibility of byler being real only for mike to admit how much he loves el romantically and will to end up heartbroken... like wow... such compelling storywritting (sike) and theyd get Major shit for it Instead of the potential praise if they were to just go thru with endgame byler

• and heres my final crackhead theory but since vecna feeds on peoples guilt and its the dissapearance of will and his connection to the upside down that opened a gate and the upside down being stuck in time on the day he did dissapear,.,., what if the closer he gets to hawkins and the gates he becomes its next target? will could have potential guilt relating to keeping his sexuality/crush hush hush, and being in the closet in the 80s is just surely a shit enough time so i can just imagine the possibility of him being vecnas next or final victim to pick on, and it would be the perfect wake up call for mike to panic at the chance of losing will Yet Again

• or idk im getting a cw supernatural vibe that will is gonna confess to mike, then get yeeted into super hell I Mean the upside down, but lets hope that this time mike pulls his head out of his ass and realizes that the reason things with el feel off is because hes been repressing his feelings for will because hes an oblivious and emotionally stunted dork!!!

When Evangeline touched the reader it was clear she wasn't an ally, and after her outburst it was clear she saw them as an object, when Yves said that she wanted to be the savior I didn't expect her to be so unhinged on her quest to be the hero, but makes so much sense, and 'the hero gets the girl' or the 'happy ever after' seems things she selfishly would take, not much unlike Monty reader was there at the wrong place and at the wrong time, pretty sure the reader will have more PTSD and self blame

Still? When I saw the trigger warning I was afraid it would be Monty since I thought we would have a break from her, AND we were told he didn't listen to 'no', good we can get a true antagonist, it was crude and raw and awful, I've read other scenes of that kind but usually they make me feel anger and powerlessness, this was complete terror, also Yves has cameras on the room no? I can't imagine how he was when it happened, being stuck and unable to do anything, not much different from us readers being unable to stop reading what was next, but in a way not 'leaving them alone' I had to stop for a bit and even then it felt 'wrong' to leave them alone, the immersion you create is just something so... Impressive I just can't stop saying it, it's so so unique

And of course now Montgomery will have to step up, even if at this point Yves is the safe heaven, Monty is the devil we know, unlike the devil we don't (Evangeline)

Back on topic, the freeze and fawn was tragically something both Montgomery and Evangeline took advantage of, but Evangeline unlike Monty doesn't see them as an equal even less above herself, there was no way she would ever be in a sane relationship with reader, no matter which kind

Also Mr Jones crying and begging for forgiveness, gives me two thoughts, one he knows or feels what's about to come to either him or his family, or is the kind of person that still believes his daughter is a good person that did wrong, I'm more inclined to the later, who knows maybe just self hate on himself 'i should have done better' or something like that, and in that position I feel reader would either just be numb or lash out at him since it's a cycle of abuse, you didn't stop her then I can also blame you for it, and he LACKS a backbone so maybe a bit for the reader to have some feeling of control back, only time will tell

Ou shid man thank you so much for the analysis!! That is true, anyone would be extremely shaken and like beat themselves up for "falling" for Evangeline's facade, but in actuality there isnt really much to go off on , u wouldnt know till its too late

Altho montys a fuckin creep, i did write him to be at least somewhat lucid when readers genuinely upset or disliking whatever hess doing, he does like respect you as a human tho its just that hes delusional to think ur shy,But he knows when to stop which usually is when you cry or lash out at him

This was what i meant for Evangeline to be a sacrificial lamb because shes just there for a short period of time to make something happen and then get killed off on or off screen

Thanx man i was actually worried that i was writing the scenes to be too goofy or crimge, but glad to hear that i do at least let some of my readers experience the immersion i intended to apply

Yeah Yves saw everything and it wasn't good for his psyche , i was planning to write from his pov at some point but i just couldnt convey the horror and anguish he felt so i just leave it up to interpretation and write the aftermath instead

Oh the mr jones begging one is basically just wanting to protect Evangeline, mans doenst know what Yves have in store for them

Rebirth Broke Me

i jusr finished rebirth and oh man i fucking love this game, it embellished the relationships between every character to well. worked on the plot so naturally and beautifully. i especially love how much they portrayed aerith and tifa, gave yuffie more of a connection to the group. i also adore how they explored the gi story and made it so much more relevant. i love how they worked out barret's struggles. absolutely in love with vincent, but i always did so lol. i saw some people complaining about cid, but imo i think he's putting up a good guy front just so he doesn't lose any business after his attempt at being a shinra pilot failed. i fully expect them to cover his story in part 3 and explore it more like they did with everyone else. im soooo happy we got to see cissnei, but so sad aerith and her didnt speak of zack :(. it's also cool we got to see some midgarian faces again even after the crew left. the trials had me actually crying, it was stunning. they really cooked

i was very confused with chapter 14 until I reached the end, but it makes sense to me. spoiler warning ahead ofc i believe aerith died. i also believe cloud is incapable of coping with the fact that she's dead, so he sees her still present with them. but i also believe she won't stay dead either, i think she was really there with cloud when they fought sephiroth. her line of "i'll pray to stop the meteor" tells me she'll come back. being a cetra and all, i think she'll find a way to return to the earth through the lifestream

my leading theory for the trajectory of the games currently goes as following; i believe that sephiroth went back in time to when it all started (crisis core time) in the hopes of changing how events played out, my biggest proof of this is his attempt at killing barret in remake and tifa in rebirth. he underestimated them in the og timeline and only took out aerith as he viewed her as the only threat, but he needs the others out the picture too sooner than later. especially tifa. hence why he constantly gaslights cloud about her being a fake or not being trustable; she's the only one that can help him put his mind back together. without her, cloud will always view the world through clouded lenses. but one thing changed about my theory with the whispers now being white and black; aerith followed him to stop him. she sacrificed her memory and recollections of events to make it back. the whispers were sephiroth and aerith's will fighting to keep the timeline intact, but they evolved and split into two factions. i also think aerith's white materia being hollowed out has something to do with that. i think she saw what he was up to from the lifestream (since shes dead in og timeline), sacrificed her memories to stop him once and for all. for a while i thought aerith was the one going back, but it wouldnt make much sense for her to undo what they did just to save herself and zack. it's possible this is an entirely different sephiroth, but i believe it's the one from the og timeline trying to reunite every world possible to make sure he wins everywhere.

it's hard to say for sure whats going on and we're only going to know once part 3 drops, but i know one thing for sure. neither cloud nor sephiroth are relliable narrators and their interpretation cannot be trusted. cloud's mind is still scattered, he's divided between denial and obedience to sephiroth. anything he says cannot be trusted. sephiroth is bad shit insane, he only accepts his view of the world. his vision is the only valid one, therefore what he says cannot be taken as matter of fact.

one final footnote i want to comment on is the "date" aerith and cloud had. yes, im a big cloti and aerti fan. also believe zack is the only right person for aerith, so maybe im coping but idc lol. i think it was all a dream or at least an altered vision of events. i firmly believe aerith still loves zack. she wrote to him for 4 years while he was taking a mako bath, waited for him endlessly day and night. she loved him dearly. but aerith is also one hell of a loyal person. i doubt she would ever be able to brush off zack like that. she also doesn't know if he died in the remake timeline. i think she projected her love for zack onto cloud; to relive the happiness she found with him one last time. she's been holding on to her grief for years, she still thinks about him. he dropped in one day into her life so suddenly and changed it for the better. as did she for him. he vanished the same way she found him. so when another soldier falls into her life the same way, carries the same sword as him, has similar mannerisms, reminds her so much of the man who she fell in love with; can we really blame her for wanting an escape of how much sadness she felt from zack being gone? i also dont believe for a second she used cloud to feel better about herself, i think she just wanted to feel the love he showed her again before she had to pass on. but cloud isn't zack, cloud could never love her the way zack did. aerith grew up without any real friends, no one that accepted her for being her. everyone viewed her as different or weird; but not zack. he was the first person to show her genuine care (besides her mothers). she misses him, as much as she's happy with all her new friends who also accept her for her; she wishes he was there too. i also don't believe that the real cloud has any romantic feelings for aerith. again, he took on the life of zack in his head. he feels drawn to her because of how much zack loved her.

it's really such a tragic story full of nuance and hurt. i noticed that zack and tifa are great parallels; both of them are the only ones truly capable of reaching inwards towards their respective partner. zack understood aerith much better than cloud ever could. tifa can touch cloud in a way no one could. but that doesn't negate the fact that cloud cares for all of them just as much. they all mean a lot to him and he means a lot to them.

also really appreciate how the devs still kept the canonity of tifa and cloud, but also gave the chance to fans of other pairings to be happy with the outcome and choose their path. its always been a divisive thing in the ff7 fandom, so its cool of them to try and make everyone happy

overall, im super excited for part 3 and i think i might recover from this by the time it comes out

its rly weird to consider the writing choices made on hotd... like, they pick and choose which Green propaganda to actually believe and show. it was beautiful to see daemon SO devoted to rhaenyra even tho his haters spread so much shit about him. there was so much propaganda that rhaenyra herself believed daemon was cheating on her and he literally went out and killed himself. there is so much evidence that daemon was COMPLETELY devoted to rhaenyra: he killed her most formidable enemy and sacrificed himself, never once did he try to put himself over rhaenyra or jace, and he never wanted his sons with rhaenyra to inherit over jace. but then he chokes rhaenyra out of the blue? because hes.... mad? jealous? hes def very emotional and sensitive about the topic but he lives for rhaenyra... theres really no explanation for this moment in the show, its just SO out of character and DID WE REALLY NEED TO SEE THAT? i want to pretend it doesnt exist, or try to justify it but i really cant...

i feel really uneasy and think the show WILL go with the idea that daemon actually was sleeping with nettles... like i draw the line here i know im sorry. he CANT do that HE WOULDNT

also, less important but... just really interesting that they pretty much decided that rhaenyra's sons are DEFINITELY bastards, when they should have left it up to interpretation. because theres no REAL historical evidence besides uhhh her sons dont have her same hair color? extremely bad genetics beliefs ladies. the POINT is that it does not matter either way since they are her sons...(besides, being a bastard is entirely a nonfactor. theres no actual reason beyond politics that they cant inherit or rule and it is not a moral failing on their part. its not even rhaenyra's fault given her personal agreement with laenor explained in the show) (also considering the show appearances, rhaenys' children look nothing like herself, daemon's daughters look absolutely nothing like him. based off of the same standards applied to rhaenyra's sons. are they bastards too?? no.) also the problem in this is that it makes people think "oh her sons are bastards making them unfit to rule, and she's a whore so she's also unfit" when this is propaganda and its hiding the Fact that people don't want rhaenyra on the throne Because She Is A Woman and ONLY for this one reason. and they'll say and do anything to take her down and shame her and make her submit.

this prompt is so funny bcuz SOO many of my ocs could easily be mischaracterized and read in the worst possible faith its impossible to choose just one

would be funny to see the arguements between people who are like "rainbow is a terrible person and a hypocrite and the narrative never punishes her for that" vs people who are like "rainbow is a neurodivergent kid who doesn't understand what she's doing wrong and the narrative and other characters are too mean to her and demonize her" both of which are incorrect takes on her character tbh. not sure which one would be funnier in a steven universe type video essay

two could be mischaracterized as a psychopathic abusive murderer (only one of those things is true!!) and people could say that he got off too easily by the narrative and he wasn't properly punished for his actions or held accountable which MIGHT be true but thats not really what his character's existence is for. maybe people forgive him too easily but they weren't the people actually hurt by his actions + in general murder is seen as a bad thing.... dont murder people i shouldn't need to say that. more interesting to deconstruct two and his mindset and how society and life experiences shaped him into the person he is and the lack of actual justice in the system. mf thinks he's batman (said with love)

starr just seems like the type of character that would be either wildly unpopular or sexualized beyond belief with like Five people total who actually understand her character and her story and think she's interesting and has depth. easy to say she's a horrible abusive person who's forgiven too easily by the narrative honestly that goes for so many of my characters AS IF MY STORY IS ABOUT REDEEMPTION ANYWAY like thats just straight up not whats going on. nobody has a redeemption arc bcuz thats not like the story.... it isnt about what they did before they met each other. for the love of god

i think jayden ultimately wins for most mischaracterized by random cartoon youtube video essay guys bcuz he's such a specific type of person and character people wouldnt even TRY to understand him or how he engages with the world. which is fine i have made my peace w/ that already. similar to knife in that people would see him as a badass protective bad boy who is secretly caring and sensitive with those he trusts and while that is NOT true its better than the alternative interpretation of his character lmao. he's so messy but i love him

could also see really annoying cishet Commentary youtuber types thinking bubblegum is annoying and cringy and hating her character and saying she's a dumb bimbo blondie and bad autistic rep or sexist or whatever. also sunshine being mischaracterized as a precious cinnamon role uwu who doesn't do anything bad ever which would be more funny than annoying. they wouldn't really get his whole self hatred thing or why he responds to situations and relationships in the way that he does which i think is probably fine?? he's self destructive but he's an abuse victim too..... lots to talk abt with him but if people want to simplify him down to what they percieve as a perfect innocent character w/ a happy life and no problems More power to them

What are your thoughts on Ms. Paint? Is she a part of your version of tmc?

its not my "version" of crew it's what i interpret from real Life, on to the screen. It is not a distortion of them unlke what many other people do intentionally and laugh about it. so everything that is true in homestuck (with reasonable small shifts) would be true for my 'standard' timeline but i focus on many different timelines for different purposes. such as if slick were raising karkat or another timeline where karkat is in love with him and the timelines where dirk is involved in each of these and in different ways and more timelines where dirk could have come in during different points. etc. every time line is equally important but some get explored more than others. And many small scenes can be explored within each timeline depending on its unique opportunities. or one depicted scene could fit into many. ms paint can fit into any of these stories to create a new timeline in which shes involved but i dont really think about her becus i cant think of a funny way to include her in a comic. I dont know if her role is the most suitable for me to really productively include -> her doting role/(outward) personality in general and towards slick.. which only gears a work really towards "shipping" "content"... and wouldnt be that valuable for me as an exploration between characters... i would really only create a special in depth personality for her that would work for this purpose if i were very into her which im not really. I think much of the role she has is currently filled by the crew as a whole, obviously not in the same way, but slicks needs are fulfilled by each of them separately. therefore i dont know if theres a place for her in slick's life when he has his crew (not the other way around because he would actually prefer his crew over a woman who he would devalue and upset even though he tries to 'clean his act up' in front of her it's not his true habitat and he would become depressed quickly [see: raising arizona]). which is why she became part of the picture after they all died because slick newly became in need of that support role they provided. If she were in slick's life WHILE the crew is there he would be balancing these two different lives and it would not turn out well unless ms paint secretly loves criminal activity and is somehow more malicious than slick under her motherlike nature which is the only possibly way you could skew her personality to make this work out. Anyway i find explorations between slick and his crew more valuable than between slick and some shick because it doesnt really need to be said what he thinks of women.. we already know..They're all dames that he either tries to act all nice and proper for (and ultimately fails) or HUGE BITCHES... Just a switch to be flipped..I could do snowman but its not that entertaining for me either to keep drawing slick as this little guy who keeps getting pulverised by a larger woman we all been knew hes into that since the beginning of time why do we have to keep saying it? it was already in homestuck... all of it laid out on the screen... where is the new fresh material? Done

i cannot say how much i disagree with wolfwood's initial ideals being overlayed with meryl's apparent newfound determination in response to her senior dying. ww's "you need to kill to survive" is his own lie to himself to cope with being a child soldier, called out by vash in the beginning of trimax and serves as character development he moves on from. having meryl take that as a lesson is incredibly strange. i strongly disagree with that take. her just going to a shooting range and maybe learning the basics would arguably be more significant for her lmao

do you think shiv WANTED to change her mind? because i felt like in the end her choice was so involuntary, as she froze while the question rested on her.

the way i interpreted it was shiv taking a small break before going through with voting for kendall. i think if she was going to vote for the gojo deal she wouldnt have doubted on it. i think she needed a moment to assimilate it because she do was heavily against it being tom given the betrayal and the way he answered to the pregnancy. i think what finally pushed her over to vote against kendall was that he did that final act of entitlement, saying it made sense for it to be him, and everything else and shiv just couldnt deal with that. its a final act of spite against the brother she has lived in competition for her entire life and she decides that if she cannot have it then her brother shouldnt have it either.

been seeing a lot of the bi mike vs gay mike debate again lately and i still stand by my word that this all feels like needless fighting to me because for one, i personally dont think theyre going to put a label to his sexuality, theyre likely only going to confirm that he reciprocates will’s feelings. i feel like the way people have been talking surrounding this discourse makes it seem like you guys expect one interpretation to end up winning over the other at some point when its possible that they could leave all that ambiguous 😭 and second, either way, hes going to be queer and neither sexuality is going to make his love for will any less realer than it is. why do people keep trying to push that their perspective “makes more sense” or is more realistic and invalidating what other people have picked up from the show (like insisting that he absolutely did not feel any attraction/have any feelings for el at all, he could still have actually liked el/developed a crush that wasnt that deep and it would still not change the fact that his romantic feelings are directed towards will now! it aligns with the stancy/mileven parallels too, nancy did like steve at some point but she never LOVED him). it ultimately doesn’t matter, both sides of the argument have points that make sense to mike’s actions and inner conflicts and i could see either bi mike or gay mike being true but stop acting like only one or the other is the rigidly correct interpretation of his character. mike being bi isnt bad and wont make his feelings for will less genuine (cause it feels like *some* people dont feel secure enough in byler endgame if they dont manage to completely prove that mike never felt anything more than platonic towards el and insisting it as the only explanation for his character that makes sense), and mike being gay wouldnt be bad either (ive seen some people say that gay mike truthers are trying to “erase” the love/care he has for el? which is weird because he doesn’t have to have actually developed attraction or romantic feelings for her to be able to genuinely love her and care about her well being, nobody was trying to insinuate otherwise). another post i didnt intend to end up being this long but i was starting to get irritated and what im trying to put out is that either route that they’d take with mike would still be good queer rep so why feel the need to argue over which one is actually true!!

(regarding the five pebbles and seven red suns ship) i feel like when it comes to the iterators either interpretation could be valid?? like some people interpret them as friends, some interpret them as family

like, lttm says "one of [pebble's] friends" when talking about suns, and then suns themselves says (paraphrasing a bit) "as a long time friend" on the pearl they send to him

in regards to the ancients calling themselves the iterators parents, i always felt like it was akin to the way some religious people say that everyone is a children of [insert god here] or something, like a metaphor

sorry for the anon jumpscare i'm a bit nervous, the last thing i want is to be called a pr/shitter- i just personally have always interpreted them as friends

no no youre good cus im not looking to cause shit myself! im just confused. if anything i was nervous to ask anything cus ive heard some people in the rw discord are quick to dispute this whenever its brought up about shipping the two and as someone whos been around fandom for a long time thats a preeeetty bad sign.

also same here abt seeing suns and pebs as just friends, its just that now that ive returned to rw a few years later and looked into the lore pearls again that i think its implied that iterators would see eachother as somewhat related perhaps?

i didnt think about the iterators being considered like "children of (godlike figure)" but in hindsight, thats also a possibility. In the lore pearl that this is brought up they also say that five pebbles is "their gift to the world" or something like that, and that seems to fit with that theme as well...

and yeah, when it comes to all forms of art, no interpretation is truly wrong. i think the main point that bothers me aside from the possibly siblings stuff is i feel like this isnt what people should be getting out of the iterators plotline? like shipping is fun. it is for fun. im not gonna go after people for that! but i also feel like people should be taking a step back and appreciating the characters for what they are and not for what they could be. if that makes sense?

about your second point, i have something to say about that but its MAJOR downpour spoilers, specifically for the rivulet and the spearmaster campaigns so im just gonna put it under a readmore

in the rivulets campaign, when asking the rivulet to do one last thing for him, pebbles calls moon "an old friend" himself (in fact thats what the achievement for finishing rivulet is called). moon very explicitly sees pebbles as a younger brother and expresses this at the end of the campaign. and in the spearmasters campaign theres those satellite things that show iterator logs when touched, and we get to see 2 iterators (from what i assume to be a neighboring group) gossiping about pebs, one of them brings up the fact that pebs was built near moon and the other asks "Isn't she his senior enough to the point where she calls herself 'Big Sis Moon'?". Its much more explicit that moon views her group as her younger siblings but pebs still calls her an old friend of his regardless!

last of all, someone said this in the tags of my post but looking at the lore pearl convo between pebbles and suns as well as the one between suns and wind really gives suns the impression of an older sibling, at least it does to me. also, back to those satellites in the spearmasters campaign, suns says that pebbles always looked up to them and they never took that lightly. srs is someone pebbles considers close because he looks up to him!

Their dynamic is something interesting to me now bc of downpour and im all about bullshitting and reading into things a little bit more for ships, but looking at SRS and FP.... how do i describe it. i dont really feel like theres SPACE for shipping in this case? like it wouldnt be necessarily invalid but its kinda missing the Point of the spearmasters campaign i feel. infact i feel like this is the only reason people see seven red suns as male despite none of the other iterators having specified genders (unless the dlc confirmed a gender for suns, then i missed that). anyways this last paragraph is just me rambling oops

Barney x Lauren for the Ship Ask Game. I know the latter hardly exists outside of pure fanon, but I gotta say that I appreciate the sheer dedication and effort put towards creating a character whose existence is near hypothetical. Yes, Barney Calhoun totally definitely had a girlfriend or spouse at some point in time prior to the ResCas (which, if you're unfamiliar with 'Lauren', this post puts it quite nicely [https://www.tumblr.com/shrimpkidd/694596732780249088/theory-about-lauren] Or, TLDR; it is most likely that Barney's to-do list in the Half Life: Blue Shift manual is referencing the surname of an established coworker [that of Otis Laurey], rather than the forename of a partner who is not mentioned anywhere else in or out of the series). Considering the speculative nature of Half-Life as a series, it's not too much of a shocker that people went hog-wild with this idea. It's cute I suppose? Not that I particularly have strong feelings on the subject matter either way. I just think it's a neat tidbit of fandom trivia, y'know? Dubious canonicity aside, I've seldom ever really seen people bring her up at all nowadays. If I could be bothered I'd love to figure out how to incorporate Lauren into my little interpretation of Half-Life, but that's for another day.

oh no shes def a canon character in my lil brain, and she and barney did date for a while, but personally i wouldnt say i ship it in the traditional sense, its kinda complex

the way ive sorta got it is that she and barney started dating in college or in the short time barney was inbetween college and working at black mesa, and into barneys time at black mesa as long distance partners, but the romantic relationship part kinda died off within a year or so at the longest, but they still remained friends afterward given that hes still making sure to get her presents n all

im havent yet solidified what exactly their relationship was like, cuz on the one hand it coukd have been a they dated genuinely but long distance killed it, but theres also the fun concept of lauren kinda using barney as a beard with or without his knowledge becuz they were already kinda friends so she knew he porbably wouldnt like freak out too bad if he knew she was queer (cuz ykno its the 90s and comin off the 80s and the aids crisis)

so in terms of shipping, i guess i dont ship it, But i do think this relationship is one thats important for barney in terms of life experience and expanding his social circle

i guess dont ship it cuz shes just a name literally and its alot harder to like develop and get attached to it lol

if she had been a character we see and meet and if there were more to develop off of the way there is for barney and gordon (since gordon is personality wise nearly blank but we get to see interactions between him and barney and hear about things theyve done together that shows a close relationship hypothetically)

in terms if positive stuff allot of it i kinda already addressed in laying the ground work to even answer this ask proper lol, she is another person in barneys social cirlce, and if shes also queer him knowing eould suplly him another person to help him to overcome his own internalized stuff, not that im saying its her job to help him bit like her queerness should he know about it is a little example that he personally knows tht he can compare his own experiences with and see live happily as she is should she come out to him, as opposed to her having to coach him thru it ykno? it as a ship is also just fun in terms of just a sweet little normal relationship if they are genuinely dating (meaning we ignore my idea of them not being in a relationship by thebtime of thebrescas) just barney being goofy and working hard to have that long distance relationship and its cute how he makes a note to remind himself to get her flowers, i dunno theyre just sweet regardless i think :)

Thoughts & Theories about MacGyver 5x10 [MacRiley]

HOLY SHIT!

This episode was absolutely INSANE. Im writing out my thoughts once and for all because I need to stop thinking about everything that happened (I highly doubt I will be able to but here's to trying)

SPOILERS FOR 5x10 OFCOURSE

Straight off the bat, I was screaming *internally* and yelling at Mac when he showed the diamond to Bozer. I suspected it yesterday when we got the snippet of Murdoc saying the words DIAMOND and RING with extra emphasis..(everyone on twitter said I was jumping to conclusions.. I thought so too honestly) But damn I did NOT expect them to actually do that!

Now here's why I am not mad about it anymore. [this is my interpretation you are free to disagree]

Firstly, when Mac told Bozer he was going to propose he didnt say I’m doing it because I love Desi or I want to spend the rest of our lives together or because she’s the one (doesn't mean he doesnt care for her ofcourse)

He said “Ever since I lost my dad & Jack, I have been thinking about the bigger picture and a commitment to make things work is exactly what Desi and I need right now. A grand romantic gesture.” He wanted to propose for stability so he could finally be on the same page with her. They never really defined their relationship before and this was a way for Mac to final bring it together. A grand romantic gesture is usually something people use to win their partners back which is what Mac was trying to do I guess. It almost sounds like he has to do it so he doesn't lose her again

(ill get to my second reason in the end)

Then ofcourse Bozer tells Riley about it so she can be prepared. Bozer is such a good friend. He is supportive of Mac AND wants to protect Riley. I love him for it! He really is doing everything to be the best friend he can to both of them. (Leannas death was so painful and I just want to hug him but thankfully Riley had that covered.)

Next we get the BIG REVEAL. The moment all of us had been waiting for.

The moment that SHOOK Angus MacGyver and CHANGED EVERYTHING!

Rileys Feelings!

“You want me to say it out loud? Fine. Yes I had feelings for Mac. There I said it. and yeah watching him and Desi together was breaking my heart so I moved out of his house. I should have said something to him a long time ago but I didn’t and now its over. ”

I had the opposite of a HEART ATTACK! (my heart rate was through THE ROOF!)

I have to say they really really outdid themselves on this reveal.

SIDE NOTE: If anyone comes for Riley and tries to call her a slut or a home wrecker? You will have me to deal with. Even after Murdoc played the clip of her confession she still tried to deny it and brush it off so it wouldn't complicate things for Mac and Desi. If Riley had wanted, she could have easily told Mac this to his face while he was dating Desi and then let things happen from there but she DIDNT. She kept that secret buried so deep she herself was in denial.

(also if anyone calls Mac a player or anything like that.. I will end you. He is doing his best to deal with everything that has happened to him and people keep giving him shit for it....)

Anyways, we see Mac’s expression & he is just confused and shocked and clearly not trying to think about it because it changed EVERYTHING for him.

[Murdoc saying I THINK IM ON TEAM RILEY was a HUGE HIGHLIGHT for me! I love him so damn much!]

Desi took it really well too actually. If they keep going down this road of growth and maturity for her I think I could actually like her again. (Russ too when he apologised to Bozer)

She didnt throw a hissy fit or say I knew it or look at Riley like she was the villain. She focused on the mission & I respect her for that.

(Riley does say, “the next thing you are going to hear on that recording-” and then gets cut off by Desi.. If this will come into play at some point later on or if it was just her trying to explain herself, remains to be seen.)

Then after the climax, we finally hear Riley say the words to Mac in real time and we get our FIRST MacRiley hug of the season!

At this point I thought they would agree to be friends and make the friendzone thing clear BUT NOPE. (you have no idea how happy I am about it not going down like that!)

I was also a puddle on the floor. SO

“Mac look-”

“You don’t have to say anything if you dont want to. Really.”

“I want to. Last year in Germany. I realised I was starting to have feelings for you. Real feelings. I didnt want to make anything weird between you and Desi. I didnt want to mess up our work or our friendship so I decided to bury it. Until the feelings passed.”

“Emotions aren’t a science. You can’t control them.”

Gosh they are so perfect together! The way they look at each other and the HUG! OH MY GOD THE HUG! Its just perfection.

Now we also see this from Desi’s POV. Again no anger or jealousy from her. I think it was an understanding. She realised that she and Mac were never going to work.. maybe a little pain but honestly everything that went down with her and Mac was her fault too. The lack of trust and understanding was always a problem for them. Sure, things were going well but she didnt seem like she was ready for a commitment if im being honest. If Mac had proposed I think Desi would have said no.(again nothing wrong with that)

She didnt want to label their relationship..they haven't said the words I love you to each other and I dont think they even live together. It really was way too sudden.(these are just things im assuming people define how well a relationship is going by.. I have no experience.)

Then ofcourse we have what im calling the goodbye scene. Its the break up before the break up in my opinion.

Desi tells Mac that they should pretend the last 24 hours never happened (that might actually include Mac wanting to propose but make of it what you will..) and that they should have a clean slate. But its very clear from Mac’s face and Desi sees it too that he isnt 100% onboard with it. He cant forget about it.

Which is when Desi says “Look Mac just do whatever you feel is right” and Mac looks confused.

She then gives him a goodbye kiss.

Look if you have ever watched any show/movie before where the characters are saying goodbye to each other or breaking each others hearts...THERE IS ALWAYS A KISS ON THE CHEEK. A final farewell of sorts.

That is what it seemed like to me. It was Desi telling Mac to do what he has to. Even if it inevitably leads to their break up.

Again real emotional maturity from Desi here!

Then we get the scene, Monica Macer (the show runner) tweeted about back in December.

Mac knocking on someones door. If im being honest? I thought it was Desi’s place and he was going to propose...

BUT it turned out to be Riley’s.

Mac clearly hasn't stopped thinking about what happened. I wouldnt either if my best friend who has put her life on the line for me and trusts me 100%, now has feelings for me? That would turn my world upside down too.

especially if I had feelings for her that I buried so deep that I never acknowledged them.

Also this is my scenario for how their first kiss goes down just FYI.. (Mac showing up at Rileys doorstep and finally confessing his feelings and kissing her *probably won't happen that way now though, but I still love it*)

Mac hesitates for a second before finally knocking on her door.

“Mac? Everything okay?”

“I can’t pretend like the last 24 hours didnt just happen. They did. So I gotta ask. Did it work?”

“Did what work?”

“Hiding your emotions and letting it pass. Did they go away?”

and I proceeded to pass out. My brain just checked out...

Now initially in all my freaking out I thought Mac was asking Riley about his feelings. If HE buried them deep enough would he still be able to move on with Desi but then I rewatched it and I realised he was asking RILEY if her feelings were still there, if there was still a possibility of something ever happening.

She never told him its all good now! my feelings are gone and it was a long time ago. She told him she buried it but he needed to know if a future with Riley was something tangible.

BASICALLY ANGUS MACGYVER ASKED RILEY DAVIS IF SHE WAS STILL IN LOVE WITH HIM. *I think I need to go to a hospital now*

So this was my second reason for not being annoyed about the proposal. The writers used it to show what a huge impact it would have on Mac. How much Rileys feelings would actually mean to him. the GAME CHANGER it would be.

A friend of mine said it was kinda funny and a little jarring but I liked it. (I could have done without the proposal) But I understand why they did it. They couldnt have Mac and Desi break up the same day Riley’s feelings came out because then people would hate Mac. They had to make him want to take the next step with Desi but then drop a bomb on him, that would make him question everything.

Again this is what I took away from it.

BUT GOSH WAS THIS EPISODE AMAZING!

I do get that some people are not happy with this and some said it was too sudden *not like we’ve been waiting since season 1 or anything* but I think after 5x11 things will slow down again. Mac may break up with Desi only at the end of the season when he finally comes to terms with his feelings. (Some people are still cautious and I get it but after everything that just happened I find it hard to believe that Mac and Riley won't end up together after all.. not to mention the leaked script conversation between Mac and Riley from 5x15)

Now I dont know how the final scene ends.. they definitely dont get called away for their solo mission immediately after because Mac’s cheek injury is relatively healed in this stills, which means Riley does answer Mac’s question. She may try to avoid it or deflect but he is standing right there so...who knows.

Next weeks episode is a MacRIley solo mission and lets just say things definitely are heating up a bit..*wink wink*

YUP IM HYPED.

"Where's the essay OP" Said no one, and yet here I am

Lampy isn't stupid, he's neruodivergent: a rushed-together masterpost

Disclaimer: I'm not a liscened medical professional but I'm neurodivergent who's close to many neurodivergent people so I know when certain traits strike me as very familiar... Also tblt is my comfort movie I've seen it probably over 100 times, not exaggerating, so if anyone here's an expert on it, it's me.

I'm only going by the first movie because while To The Rescue and Goes To Mars probably have evidence to back me up, I don't feel like sitting down to watch them as I don't have them as memorized as the original

Point #1: Lampy is arguably the most intelligent appliance in the movie

Honestly it apalls me that so many are convinced that Lampy is an idiot when he displays some of the most intelligent traits in the movie. I'll just list off some of the most important scenes that show this

1: When discussing a way to get to the city, Lampy comes up with plans that end up failing, true. But we should also consider that not only did Radio and Toaster come up with bad plans before deciding on the swivel chair, but 2/3 of Lampy's ideas involved the same mechanic: on something with wheels(yes the mattress had wheels for some reason) being powered by Kirby

2: "From here you can see the really big lamp!" This scene is simply due to the appliances being sheltered from the outside world. Lampy displays the same level of naive-ness as everyone else: Radio seems earnest in calling the sun a "really big lamp", and Kirby calls the grass "shag carpet". Lampy is not at a lower intelligence in this scene, he's exactly at the same level as everyone else

3: The scene with the storm really sells his intelligence. The appliances have a rudimentary understanding of electricity, most likely from being appliances, but Lampy displays an excelled level of understanding by sacrificing himself for the battery. He understands that batteries are powered by electricity, lightning is electricity, and by using himself as a lightning rod, he acts as the conductive metal to easily transfer this energy from the bolt to the battery. Technically this should have overcharged and fried the battery but we'll suspend disbelief for the sake of this movie.

4: He knew that stacking the appliances to roughly human height, creating a dark environment with ominous sounds, and putting Toaster at eye-level to scare the human with his own reflection... Again, this is an intelligent understanding of how to scare a human

5: It's unclear on whose idea it was to look up Rob in a phone book, however this shows that not only can Lampy read(most likely picked up from being Rob's reading light), ESPECIALLY when Toaster struggles to read, but also has an understanding of phone books, addresses, and finding humans based on family names. I cannot stress how intelligent this is for a sentient desk lamp

There's a few more minor examples, but these are the biggest cases. Lampy is intelligent.

Point #2: Lampy struggles with social cues and doesn't empathize as easily as others

My biggest point here is when people think neruodivergents are "dumb" for having trouble picking up on things like sarcasm when that just... isn't the case. A few notable examples include:

1: When Air Conditioner says "You're a real bright little lamp", Lampy doesn't pick up the sarcasm and thinks he's being complimented. Though he definitely shows a level of emotional intelligence because he looks to Toaster to confirm "hey I was complimented", sees they're still looking angry, and gets the hint that he was insulted without someone needing to explicitly tell him that, to which he then responds with "Heyyy >:("

2: Sometimes he's able to read the room and pick up on tones, but other times he shows a level of emotional density. Legitimately not knowing if Rob had returned even when seeing Blanky disappointed to the point of near tears... But then knowing "brains wouldnt hurt either" was a jab at their intelligence and reacting with appropriate annoyance... But also when Radio says "Things could be worse!", doesn't realize he's just saying that to make Toaster feel better and asks "How could they be worse?"

3: He bullies Blanky alongside Radio and the others, unclear if he's actually being a jerk or just "oh this is what everyone else is doing so this is the normal way to act", but he's legitimately confused when Toaster tries to explain why they're suddenly being nice to him. He doesn't get the "now I feel better" argument because his argument was "Well you were never this nice to him before". Even when Toaster tries to explain why it feels nice, it just doesn't click... until Toaster finds a way to explain that connects personally to Lampy's own emotional state. He has trouble empathizing until realizing "oh this is like this thing that I feel sometimes"

4: Something I've noticed when gathering evidence is that more than once, Lampy goes "Wow..." After someone gloats about themself(Twice with Radio, once with the Computer). It's clear by the third time, when Radio goes "What does that mean?" And Lampy responds "I don't know. [To Computer] What does that mean?" That he doesn't even know what's being gloated about, let alone why he should be impressed. He has the emotional intelligence to recognize when someone's gloating and the "appropriate" response of amazement, but it seems like it never comes from a place of earnest. (While Neurotypicals can and do engage in "performative" behavior, I tend to notice this way more commonly with neurodivergents)

Also the "wow..." Performative thing is VERY reminiscent of Peridot from Steven Universe(a characters who many autistic fans see themselves in and the creator herself saying she doesn't consider Peridot or any of the gems to be neurotypical) going "wow thanks" as her default "this is how I've been taught to show gratitude" response

Point #3: Miscellaneous traits that could be neurodivergent

These traits COULD be interpreted as neurodivergent, but I will admit they could also be interpreted as something else so like take these with a grain of salt

1: Lampy appears to have sensory needs. When sleeping, he needs to tap a rock a few times(presumably to make sure it's "right") before clonking his head on it. It's interesting because rocks aren't a very "lamp" thing whatsoever, and none of the other appliances look for pillow-ish objects to rest on, so this could be a sensory thing.

2: Lampy has an interesting vocal quirk: repetition of phrases at the beginning and end of a sentence. Instances include "How exactly do you propose we do that, exactly?" "All of a sudden you're being so darn nice to him all of a sudden" "The fact is there's just not enough facts" The third one is a bit of a stretch but the first two seem to indicate a possible pattern of speech. Part of me wants to say this could be a verbal tic or some type of verbal stimming, but I've never met anyone who has a tic or stim like this so I can't say it's a neurodivergent thing with confidence, but I wanted to mention this quirk regardless.

3: Physically saying how he feels. Two instances where multiple characters are laughing, Lampy speaks while laughing "That's funny - I'm dying!" "I'm aching with joy!". It's just interesting that no one else speaks while laughing and for whatever reason, Lampy needs to verbalize "Yes I find this very funny" as if simply laughing along isn't enough. I've seen somewhat similar stuff in neurodivergents who have issues expressing emotions implicitly so they state them explicitly instead.

4: I've noticed Lampy isn't touchy... except with Radio. Some neurodivergent people can have issues with physical contact, which could explain that. But I've also noticed that Radio also gives me huge neurodivergent vibes... But more importantly Radio is extremely touchy with everyone, Lampy included, hence them often getting into physical fights but also just- tapping them or wrapping a cord around the other and pulling him close(they're so in love but that's a post on its own). A possible explanation is Lampy having issues with touching others, but either feels comfortable being touchy with Radio(due to emotional bonds and trust) or simply recognizes "Radio likes being touchy so I should be touchy back". A stretch of an argument, I'll admit, but I think the interpretation is there and valid.

In conclusion

I mean idk if Lampy was written to be neurodivergent or if the writers just wanted him to be "quirky" and accidentally gave him a lot of neurodivergent traits, but he reads as very neurodivergent to me(probably autistic or adhd but I'm not a professional and can't diagnose him). But while I can chalk up neruodivergency being one of many possible interpretations of his character, I WILL argue that he's not "stupid" given the evidence we see throughout the movie

Tl;Dr: Lampy is evidently intelligent, but sometimes struggles with social cues, empathy, and overall shows numerous traits of neurodivergency
