no offense to the anime onlys for dunmeshi, but there's so many "marcille did nothing wrong using dark magic" comments, using marcille "successfully" resurrecting falin as a reason to be mad at shuro/kabru, when things like this very much does happen later:
the "antagonists" in the series are afraid of this happening:
and the worst case scenario does happen, and the world is getting eaten up
the characters who were most responsible for stopping laios are frozen, unable to help, then our main cast doesnt know what to do either and are almost damned to be left behind
and the only reason they won is bc of laios' monster oc details wanting to play monster. theres even a pov from the demon that the world had essentially ended, so you cant say it was impossible or whatever

Anime onlys questioning why folks are freaked out about the use of dark magic. Bestie the elves are worse than cops and they're going to arrest literally anyone on suspicion of being suspicious and torture you and let you rot and die in prison. The fact that black magic was historically used for fuck wucky stuff aside it's like your buddy going "yeah I payed for your apartment by giving your landlord a bunch of meth" bro I'm going to mega prison for that shit!!!
#i really do think new fans dont understand how weird our main characters are#going down and eating monsters and doing blood magic isnt normal for them. these new characters arent responding positively#for a reason. they arent just unnecessarily mean or whatever#the anime has mentioned the elves (even if Trigger kinda didnt put a lot of emphasis on it)#i hatee how people use that to complain abt our new characters instead of being like 'hm. why ARE they so mad..?'

Trigger is very inconsistent with what is adapted, so I don't think they're being lore accurate when they remove the fat from a character.

The bell shuro gives laios is such an elegant piece of symbolism. Laios immediatly stows it away but it's jingling at the bottom of his bag (and mind) the whole time as the crew enters the most isolated section of the story.
Rescuing Falin was the first thing shuros ever wanted or asked for and Laios return pushes him to be more and more proactive abt his desires. On Shuros side, its constantly ringing, out of his control, and annoying to him and everyone around him. Despite being mortified w intruding on other people, he keeps it on him even when he sleeps. They both almost throw it away several times.
Thru the story its a little ambiguous what shuro feels about laios. IMO the dead giveaway is where he puts that bell:

If you’ve been stuck trying to please a mom who became abusive/toxic because of generational trauma, realize you won’t save her. You might be the subject of your mom’s rage, paranoia, obsession etc - but you are not the cause of it. And if you didn’t change her after all those years of begging her, bargaining with her, self-harming, isolating, defending yourself, etc, you are not going to change her now. When they say “you can only save someone who wants to be saved”, that applies here. When they say “the only person who you can control is yourself” that applies here.
