HI!! I'd love to hear about your podcast ocs :)
YAYY HII !!! (Everything is under the cut because I felt like i got a bit rambley <3)
okay well i've done simple breakdowns of some of them before but im in a talkative mood tonight so i'm probably going to repeat myself from prior posts and if information is different on the posts you can blame plot holes. ANyways!!
the podcast is my original podcast Brickwoods Amusment Park (BAP for short) where 5 teens who are invited to the park for a tour end up getting trapped by an eldritch god inside the park and some really horror-ish and creepy stuff happens to them while they try to get out
Now Meet the cast !!-
First Sophia Wynecross (tw cults for sophia's part)- (she/they + neos) they are a vlogger/streamer who was invited to create popularity for the park with their videos and she is the main source of audio for the first part of the podcast. Ve are very loud and exciting and passionate about their interests. Sophia also however, is the leader of a very big cult, one that happens to worship the god the kids are trapped by. This causes sophia to know a little bit more than the rest of the group while they try to get out, and also causes Sophia to make some questionable choices in the future.
Next, Blair Li-Ross !!- (they/them) Blair was invited to the park because their parents work for the park and they were encouraged (read: forced) to tag along to get out of the house. Blair is a stubborn and tough character that just wants to get out alive to make sure they can protect their younger sibling, so they are willing to fight to protect themselves over anyone or anything else.
Sunni Moore time!- (he/him) Sunni is a lovable smiley character that tries to be happy all the time for the sake of himself and others, however he's also very blunt and straightforward when it comes to their outcomes in the park. Sunni also has quite the dark secret that he hides because the majority of the people who knew he then no longer are around so why not create a totally different personality around people who didn't know him at the time of the Incident? (more about the incident here, and also a couple more character things :D)
Now David Garcia- (ae/he) David is sarcastic and funny but ae's also very shielded off ever since a traumatic Incident when ae was younger. Ae knew Sunni when the Incident happened and when ae finds out what really happend ae feels very vulnerable and hurt. David also trusts until that trust is broken and betrayal is almost impossible for you to come back in aer mind.
And finally Rebecca Blake!- (it/she) Rebecca is a worried and concerned person but when pushed will make risky choices to prove something. It is sometimes hot-headed and rude but will normally apologize later. She also is the most intrigued by how the park works, and although it would like to escape the park, she's very interested in knowing how everything happens within it. Especially the more creepy weird stuff, its a skeptic /hj
So anyways now that you know the cast :))
They all attempt to work together to get out of the park alive, however not all of them do make it out and the majority of them end up dying before escaping the park. The only one left being Rebecca, who decides that its up to her to dismantle the cult of the god who trapped them there so it doesn't happen again.
Anyways!! That was basic plot and character descriptions!! Please anyone ask more about particular characters or plot points, I love to chat about them <3

10 Elements of Modern Web Design That You Need to Know
Tumblr media
Web Design is based on the idea that all elements will be displayed in the same location. Fixed layout makes professional design possible as web pages can be created without complex coding and time-consuming design.  Dynamic layouts differ from fixed layouts in that we can adjust the position of elements on the page depending upon the amount of space allocated for them. As a Web Designer, I create designs with fixed positions to streamline layouts and content creation.
1-      Gradient Style Manager
In the Gradient Style Manager, you can add, edit & remove global (multi color) gradients effects. These effects can be used by shapes, cliparts, textart and drawing tools.  The definitions of gradient styles are stored in a XML file as 'gradients.dat' in the program folder.
2-      Responsive Menu
Responsive menu is a responsive, multi-level menu that uses CSS only, minimizing the necessity of JavaScript. On traditional computers, drop affordable cms development services  down menus will be shown with this design. For mobile devices (touch), a stacked menu with the popular hamburger icon will be displayed.
Responsive Properties
The following properties are responsive.
·          visibility
·          object position
·          object size
·          appearance (desktop vs mobile mode)
 3-      SEO Assistant
 The SEO Assistant helps you make your web pages more search engine friendly. It scans the page for missing image descriptions, keywords, sitemap.xml/robot.txt, header tags, broken links and more. It is a 'modeless' window - meaning you can continue editing the website even while it is open.
 4-      CMS
The basic idea of a CMS is that a Web page contains content that’s generated on the server when requested to display. They’re often preferred over those without it because CMSs are easy to edit and add new pages, like blogs.
CMS tools make it easy to manage content. CMS store and display content in a fixed area, making them useful for pages on a website. Experienced users find that CMS allows for simple content management and frequent addition of new pages.
5-      Animation
CSS3 animations are effects that let an element transition gradually from one style to another, without using JavaScript or Flash. These animations can be applied to a wide variety of CSS properties, including background color, width, height, and even opacity. The Animation manager can be used to define these animations and assign them to objects in the CSS3 animation section of their properties.
6-      z-index
It is innovative to use CSS positioning in order to create pixel perfect layouts in HTML. Web Builder gives you the option of dividing each webpage into separate layers, which is a form of layering so portions can be overlapped and something that is not difficult with CSS. The higher elements that have a z-index are more opaque than the other ones depending on the opacity setting.
7-      Structured Data
Using Structured Data, Add Rich Snippets to your website.
A rich snippet basically shows extra information between the URL and the description. For example, if you search for 'Strawberry Ice-cream', then Google may include a picture of an Ice-cream, ratings of the recipe with other information also. It also stands out from the other search results. In one study, it was found that product descriptions with photos had a 14% higher user click-through rate. Photos helped them give off a friendlier, inviting aesthetic and also provide more information about the products themselves.
So how can we add rich snippets to your web site?
The Structured Data tool generates the JSON-LD code (schema.org) & automatically adds it to the page!
The following schemes are currently supported:
·          Event
·          Music Album
·          Music Playlist
·          News Article
·          Organization
·          Person
·          Product
·          Recipe
·          Review
·          Restaurant
·          Software Application
·          Video Object
 8-      Card Container
Cards can be messy. Instead of packing a clutter of cards in a small space, slide them into the Card Container to create a clean, organized layout. As just a layout grid & flex box container, the card container is a full-width, floating element. So, it cannot have an absolute position. You can use the Arrange Tools to move the container up or down the page.
 9-      Carousel object
Carousels are represented by horizontal sliding panels that display images or objects by scrolling text/content from right to left. The user can move to any specific panel on demand using the pagination icons, or browse the carousel sequentially by using the BACK/NEXT button. Carousels are able to take advantage of multiple layers and slides. They are an effective means of increasing website usability and engaging a user. You've probably seen a Carousel from sites like Apple or Blackberry before.
 10-   Image Hotspots
You can add links on an image with shapes. This may be useful for images such as a campus map or world map where you content management companies in india want to contain links to different pages. Shape values include: icon, rectangle, circle, or polygon. The tool tips pop up when hovering over the hotspot shape area.

Jeremy - Week of 10/14 Blog Post
This week has been quite the hectic one for us here in Group A. Of course with our luck, the week we decide to finally compile everything into one main project, is the week that PlasticSCM decides to act up. Well it's BEEN acting up, but this is an all time low. This mostly affected the team members on level design while I was on coding, but as of me writing this now we are scrambling to finally get stuff into the project. At 11 o'clock at night on a Thursday. If this class has prepared me for anything, it's the crunch hours of the work place. Even with the Burndown chart the intrinsic nature of Game Devlopment invites crunch culture. But I think this whole development process can teach how to avoid this kind of crunch in the future,
Tangent aside let's get to what I ACTUALLY did this week!
Even though I said I mostly coded we can start with something else. I started the week off by finishing voice recordings for the Vertical Slice cutscene, thought because of how long it takes to get a model commissioned these will probably not make it into the actual Vertical Slice, bit it's nice to have them now.
Onto code! I started off the week strong finally implementing the animations for building swapping. I will include a video at the end of this post that shows off what I did! For now I will mostly be showing the code that I completed.
The "animations" for the building swap aren't real animations, that would be impossible. Instead I used my new favorite thing of ALL TIME: DoTween. I mentioned it last week, but it was a real friend to me this week helping with almost everything I did. I used DoTween to move the buildings offscreen have them swap and come back down. It adds movement to the scene with out the worry of the buildings slamming into each-other.
Here is the Movement Code:
Tumblr media
Alongside the DoTween swapping I also added a Lightning Bolt particle effect that we found, to show the player what building they have currently selected.
Here is the Lightning Bolt Code:
Tumblr media
My whole week basically revolved around the Building Swapping Mechanic. The next assignment I has was creating a natural camera change for the building swapping. Originally it cut between two cameras, but thanks to Cinemachine that can become smoother. There is a Cinemachine Camera that allows you to move between different Camera States. This is perfect for the Building Swapping! I had to make a few Coroutines for this one so that things become enabled and disabled on time.
Here is the Camera Swap Code:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Taking a small break from coding I decided to finally create the graphics for the STABILITY METER. This one was a long process, I had to create a visual style that matches our game. For inspiration I used Jacob's art for Vettel. This was used as a basis for the color scheme, and the design itself was originally going to be based off of a phone battery but it evolved into something different.
Work In Progress Meter Design:
Tumblr media
Early Gameplay Implementation:
Tumblr media
This meter didn't go without coding though, thanks AGAIN to DoTween I was able to make the meter smoothly decrease and increase in size.
Stability Meter Code:
Tumblr media
(This involved a little bit more math then I expected)
Implementing the Stability Meter put me on a Graphic Design train, so I decided to create even more in game graphics (all of them are used in building swap too!).
Next up was a brand new Interaction Symbol, this hovers over objects that the player can go up and interact with. Originally we used the "E" button for interactions, but I changed it for the "R" key. Originally this used a different design color scheme compared to the Stability Meter, but I decided to unify all the UI designs to give the game a more cohesive visual language.
Interaction Symbol Graphic:
Tumblr media
The interaction symbol required more code than expected, but it was fun to do anyway. I coded it so that the button follows the players head, and it will fade in and out depending on player distance (again thanks to DoTween!).
Interaction Symbol Code:
Tumblr media
Finally I created new graphics for the Buttons that appear in the building swapping. These again follow the same visual style.
Button Graphics:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They also include code that fades them in and out, that can be seen in the camera swapping code screenshot I provided above.
This was quite the fun but hectic week, and as we get closer to the Vertical Slice. I am very excited to see where our game goes now!
Here is the Video that shows everything off: (Note: This was recorded in a test project these were imported into the main project very late so I didn't have time to record)

henlo, it is I, zircon, who cannot focus on one project at a time to save my life /hj
But I was struck with a Need to make a character for @alch3mic‘s yandere!fairy tale AU. I didn’t even have any ideas going into this. I just went. “I need to make a character.” For some reason. Hell, I actually know next to nothing about either Dancetale or Twelve Dancing Princesses -- I literally did research for this upon waking up this morning, and then when I scrapped through enough ideas, I finally settled on this!
Also, I know Dancetale!Sans technically has a blue color scheme, or indigo in some depictions; but there already being a two chars in the AU with blue (huntsy and prince) and captain with purple, I figured I should pick something that stuck out a little more. So I went with a blue-green lol. (and injected some mint colors bc... favorite color lol)
More info with my rambling about this skele if you’re interested, but fair warning, there will be some yandere themes given the AU ^^/ -->
Soldier!Sans - goes by “Soldier” in many cases. Was given this nickname for his loyalty to doing every job he’s assigned without question as an information broker.
+ he took up being an information broker after his music composition career began to tank. figured he might as well get money somehow
+ still does music composition when he can. he can play violin and keyboard. usually doesn’t bother with lyrics
+ does not have loyalty to any specific person (... that is, for his job) and will do (nearly) any job without fail.
+ soldier works differently from huntsman and cheshire, who are in similar positions in a way. he doesn’t lack emotions (unlike huntsman), but he has an emotional disconnect with the informational work he does (unlike cheshire) ... y’know, most of the time.
+ his brother has a dance studio called “Enchanted Dancing.” his brother often tries to offer him a job at the studio, since soldier used to be a dancer, but he refuses
+ also refuses to drink alcohol. it makes him sick. frankly, he doesn’t eat much at all because he can get sick really easily... though, whether or not that comes from a lack of eating, he isn’t sure
+ usually does work for the richest parts of the city -- that’s where the most money is
+ isn’t unfamiliar with doing some thievery here and there and selling his findings to his clients. usually they are small but expensive items, like jewelry
+ doesn’t sleep much between working both day and night, but struggles with sleeping regardless. he mostly just takes short breaks from time to time
+ overall is probably the least yandere of the yanderes, since he’s not as likely to kill as he is protect and run away... but he’s very protective
+ physically, he’s fairly tall compared to the rest of the “tiny” skeletons (huntsy, captain, prince, cheshire) and stands a few inches taller than mc. he’s also a lot thinner and a lot more fit, since he did use to be a dancer, although he isn’t anymore
+ he’s quick on his feet and very quiet. his stealth is well-known amongst his former clients, as he’s yet to be spotted by anyone, almost as if he’s completely invisible at night
Basic story concept - loosely based off of Twelve Dancing Princesses, set in the city of the yan!fairytale AU with the rest of the characters.
+ soldier plays the role of well... the solider. he is eventually hired for a long-term job of keeping an eye on one of the Kings’ (a large, extremely wealthy family in the city) adopted children whose siblings say disappears during the night
+ according to the Kings, their child is nearly about to graduate college, but is borderline failing their final semester for reasons the family can’t comprehend. they wake up late in the morning and go to bed oddly early, and the Kings never see them doing their school work and are upset. this is why they hired soldier
+ when soldier does tracks them down inevitably, he’s met with the discovery that they’ve been leaving every night to go to varying different parties. surprisingly, they’re not typically the drunk college parties one would expect. rather, they’re more involved and populated dance parties
+ the first couple of times he finds them, they’re at typical raves, but later on, he finds they’re doing other things as well, such as late-night dance classes. but it always involves dancing. sometimes soldier catches himself critiquing their moves... or sometimes imagining walking up to them and teaching them himself... but then he immediately shuts down the thought and returns to his work
+ soldier eventually reports back to the Kings, who are furious at the news. they, without telling him until much later, end up locking the dancer away. soldier waits a few nights, expecting to follow them again, only for no one to come from the mansion. when he discovers out they’ve been locked away by their own family... something clicks. he isn’t sure what. but something does.
+ solider crosses his usual “loyal to his job” code and breaks into the mansion, not only allowing the dancer to meet him, but bringing them out for the night. bringing them outside so they can dance as they please
+ he isn’t sure the motivation for his actions. it’s as if a spell has been cast on him
+ If you brought me out to dance, why don’t you join me? they ask. soldier refuses. for now. maybe.
+ he is sure of one thing;
+ if they’re going to be locked away anywhere, it’ll be under his protection, not anyone else’s... but he doesn’t want it to come to that. for now, he supposes he’ll assign himself a new job of sorts -- a soldier to protect the aspiring midnight dancer

the warmest hello (to the coldest goodbye)
once a spy, always a spy forever, forever the warmest hello to the coldest goodbye remember, remember -spies are forever, the tin can bros
warnings: undercover spy work, mention of weapons, drugging someone into unconsciousness/giving someone a roofie, essentially the start of an enemies to lovers fanfiction
pairings: virgil/logan, offscreen roman/patton
words: 4,465
notes: this is for day 7 of @analogicalweek! the prompt of the day is “free day” and i have decided to write a combination soulmates and rival spies au! please enjoy!
Not that Virgil would admit it, but, like literally every other marked person, he's tried to imagine how he might meet his soulmate. He just didn't ever spare any thought on what he'd do if it happened on the job.
His official cover to his friends (which was mostly his cousin Roman and Roman’s husband Patton) was that he was an analyst—he was always vague about what exactly it was he analyzed, but since neither of them were particularly mathematically inclined, and both were maybe a bit too trusting for their own good, they took him at his word.
Even when he was sent off on various unusual "business trips.”
It’s not like Virgil’s mark is very specific about when and where it’ll happen. Virgil knows that variations of "sorry about that” make for a large percentage of common soulmarks.
There’s protocols in place, of course, but Virgil had never really paid attention to those classes while training to be a spy. The Lewis clause is the kind of thing Virgil didn’t pay as much attention to, because it didn’t seem as useful as understanding the technology or how to make a cover. The Lewis clause is what to do when someone meets a soulmate on the job—there are specifications for if the soulmate is a target, a team member, or an enemy.
Virgil hadn’t really cared at the time. He’d kick himself for that later.
Any number of meetings occurred accidentally—knocking something over, bumping into someone, or, like his cousin Roman's soulmate did, take Roman's coffee thinking it was his own hot chocolate. They got married two winters ago, just so they could serve hot beverages in cold weather.
He thinks the iteration stamped in black along his left inner arm, "I'm very sorry about this," with the addition of "oh no, it's you” tacked on at the end of his makes it likely that whatever he says will, A, likely be first, B, be somewhat unique, or unique enough to be immediately recognizable, and C, be in the aftermath of some kind of accident.
He ends up being partially right. What he says is first and it is somewhat unique. What his soulmate apologizes for is no accident, though.
Virgil does undercover work, sure, but it's very rare for him to enter the James Bond style locale he's at today, and that he’s been working for the past couple months; the marble ballroom he's circling is dripping with gold chandeliers and matching heavy, velvet curtains that accent the floor-to-ceiling windows. There’s a string quartet in the corner, barely audible over the chatter of rich socialites. Virgil, deeply uncomfortable in his white-tie attire, is circling the room in an attempt at looking like he attends charity balls all the time.
He sucks at it.
As if on cue, his earpiece crackles to life.
"How the fuck did you ever qualify to be a spy?" Janus, his tech man and eye in the sky, snickers into his ear. "Your acting skills are horrendous. If you auditioned for The Room right now, they wouldn't let you into the cast.”
"Fuck off,” Virgil fake-coughs into his shoulder.
"Christ, at least try to look like you're mingling, not like you've stalked the target here."
Unable to stop himself, he glances toward the target he's meant to be watching.
The target, who is so staggeringly wealthy it could make Virgil, who is trying to pay off his student debt on a spy's salary (not as high as one might think) burst into tears. Or, much more likely, start ranting about the myriad flaws of capitalism. If so inclined, he could honestly probably steal the amount of money necessary from one of her offshore accounts, and it would be as unnoticeable as someone taking a penny from him.
Mary Lee Truman is standing amidst a flock of suited men, like a dove amidst a flock of dour crows; her dress is slinky silk, a shade of champagne that glimmers rose-gold in the right shade of light. She’s standing leaned to one side, her hip popped out and an arm crossed over her stomach, a crystal-cut champagne flute dangling in her fingers as if she was born to hold one.
Her husband, Lee Truman (fuck if that wasn’t confusing, it was really easier to think of them by their codenames) is off by the bar, seemingly getting himself another drink.
His eyes stray to Mary Lee again; he can tell a couple of the suits are hired muscle, bodyguards, which makes sense, as the Trumans are allegedly a massive crime family, doing their dirty dealings in plain sight. A couple of the suits he recognizes from dossiers; one is a business partner of Lee’s father, who might not even know what the Truman family really gets up to; one absolutely knows what the Truman family gets up to, as Virgil’s read his rap sheet and knows he’s been in and out of jail due to his assignments from the mob.
There’s one suit there that really doesn’t seem to fit the mold of either category.
For one thing, he’s around Virgil’s age; for another, he isn’t rippling with muscle. Not that he doesn’t look fit; his well-tailored suit shows off his broad shoulders, his biceps, his lean waist. He’s dark-haired, and pale, and blue-eyed, and he’s standing next to Mary Lee with a look that Virgil would think of as dour, but now that he’s looking closely, the blue-eyed man looks almost... calculating.
This man wasn’t in the dossier.
Almost everyone at this ball was in the dossier.
Virgil looks away from Mary Lee and the handsome man, and instead decides to start taking up Janus’ advice; he slowly moves through the room.
Well. He's doing it to get closer to Mary Lee, but sure, he can attempt to mingle.
He traverses through the room, his fancy shoes clicking on the marble floor, mindful to not step on any dress hems—he has it easy, as his directive was simply to wear his white tie with his hidden weapons, his ear piece, and his lapel pin that records everything he's seeing. The women in the room provide the only splashes of color outside of the black suits and white shirts of the men, the gleaming marble, the gold- accented glasses and dishware. Even what little art he's seen follows that color theme -- white marble busts, abstract black and white paintings in their gilded frames, a gold statue outside the front steps, as if to greet the partygoers.
But the women of the party aren't beholden to this strict color scheme. Gowns of pink chiffon, red lace, blue taffeta, deep violet velvet, Virgil passes them all, keeping one eye out for rose gold silk.
He ends up instituting himself in a ring of people listening intently to an art history professor talking about the architectural significance of his building—he introduces himself with his cover name, James Walker, to the man next to him, who Virgil already knows is a Truman cousin. He gives a fake first name too—he says his name is Alex, when Virgil knows it’s really Bruce. Okay. Something to take note of.
He listens to the art history professor talk about art deco with just one ear, the other straining to eavesdrop on Mary Lee and her suits.
“Do you think our beneficiary approaches?” Mary Lee murmurs to the blue-eyed one, the one that wasn’t in the dossier.
“Oh, I know he does,” the blue-eyed man says to her. He has a pleasant British accent, the kind of voice that would be right at home on a nature documentary calmly narrating the eating habits of wolverines, or something like that. “According to all my research, our previous beneficiary is no longer within our purview. A new one will have been instilled in hasty time. As a matter of fact, I believe I would be able to point him out to you right now.”
Mary Lee sighs, a little, and the man continues talking about their charity. Virgil’s mind races. He knows the Truman’s “charity work” almost always acts as a sieve to run dirty money through, so what would it mean, that they got a new beneficiary? A new target, maybe? A new directive?
Either way, this is almost definitely some kind of code they’re talking in. He tunes a bit more into the art history professor’s impromptu lecture—he’s taking a brief tangent into talking about Tamara de Lempicka—as he ruminates on that particular conversation between the blue-eyed Brit and Mary Lee.
Then he ends up in conversation with an elderly woman beside him, who wants to know who he is—James Walker, I run a business a state or two over, I’m interested in diversifying my assets—and if he’s been to any art museums in town. Both he and the man he is meant to be have not, but it turns out she’s a curator and has numerous suggestions for him.
He also knows this woman, Ida Kelly, has been paying into the Truman business for quite some time, and has potentially ordered hits using the Truman’s muscle.
“Madam,” a suited waiter shows up at her side, as if on cue, and hands her a small glass full of what looks like a gin-and-tonic.
“Oh, yes, thank you,” she says, taking her drink immediately.
The waiter turns to him. There is a singular champagne flute on the tray. “Sir.”
“I didn’t order anything,” Virgil says stupidly, before he realizes that almost everyone here is taking champagne flutes off of trays, and he supposes this waiter just wants to clear his before he has to double back and get more. “Oh, all right.”
He takes it. It’s a delicate, crystal-cut glass. He’s almost a little afraid that if he holds it wrong, it’ll break.
“Really, we’re doing an Impressionism exhibit, and it is positively divine,” she says.
Very suddenly, there’s a hand on his shoulder, emanating warmth through his suit and Virgil jumps, a little—he hopes whoever it is didn’t feel one his knives. Or, God forbid, his gun.
He turns to see no one, when a hand touches his opposite arm, and he turns again. It turns out to be the blue-eyed Brit, who is staring only at Ida, brushing past him, allowing his hand to trail down Virgil’s arm, touching his hand as if to say, please stay there, I do not want to bump into you.
At such a close range, Virgil can smell his absolutely incredible cologne, see his defined jawline, the way his blue eyes gleam.
Ida brightens. “Darling!”
“Ida,” the Brit says warmly. “I visited that display myself, it was simply wonderful.”
“Oh, you’re too kind,” she says, clearly drinking up the praise. Virgil looks between them, feeling even more awkward than he has all night.
“Wait a goddamned minute,” Janus murmurs in his ear, after such a long stretch of silence that it makes Virgil jump again. There’s the sound of rapid typing.
“A victory!” The man says, lifting his glass—it looks to be full of whiskey. “A toast, to your latest triumph.”
“Oh, now,” she says, but when the other surrounding suits start lifting their glasses, Virgil lifts his, as well.
“To Ida Kelly,” the Brit says. “One of the finest artistic minds to walk the earth at our time!”
Virgil takes a sip of his champagne at the same time as everyone else; another woman in a deep green gown with a shawl edged in feathers takes Ida’s arm, rhapsodizing about the Impressionism movement and the latest event that her art gallery had put on.
It takes about a minute for Virgil to notice his vision going blurry in the corners.
It takes him about ten seconds of blinking hard and rubbing his eyes, hoping to clear it, to stumble over his own two feet.
It takes five seconds for Janus’ voice to buzz to life in his earpiece, urgent, “Virgil, get out of there, get away from that man, that’s Lo—”
It takes him about two seconds after that to notice that the blue-eyed Brit is looking at him with an expression clearly lacking remorse.
It takes him about half a second to realize the finger tapping one shoulder, his hand at his hand—the same hand that had been holding his champagne flute. He hadn’t been looking at his drink. The Brit had made him turn away from his drink.
The Brit put something in his drink.
Virgil’s been made.
“Good God, man,” another suited man says, when Virgil stumbles over his own two feet, “had enough of the bubbly, have you?”
Virgil ignores him; even as his vision is growing blurrier and blurrier, his eyes are intent on the Brit, staggering towards him, and he doesn’t even really know why. He’s been made, he should be running, but—
"Did you just fucking poison me, you fucking asshole?" Virgil slurs, and his sudden lack of physical control resoundingly answers the question before the Brit can; the arms that catch him before he can full flat on his face are muscular and warm. He’s distantly aware of the crystal-cut grass slipping from his hand and shattering on the marble.
The warm, muscular arms are more pressing than that. And, for a dirty rotten criminal who has probably killed people, the man is quite handsome. His bespectacled face swims in Virgil's vision.
"'I'm very sorry about this," he says smoothly, before his eyes widen in alarm. "Oh no.”
As Virgil is on the verge of unconsciousness, he hears, "It's you."
His last three thoughts before he slips under: did he just fucking say what he thought he said, then, good God his eyes are so blue, then, fuck, I should have paid way more attention to the Lewis clause.
Virgil is aware of three things as he wakes up: one, he feels like he has a dreadful hangover. Two, he’s pretty sure he’s in a plane or train or car or something moving, which makes him feel motion sick.
Three, he’s been stripped of his earpiece and his weapons.
He blinks his eyes open slowly, squinting; it’s night time, but even the low light is making Virgil’s eyes hurt.
This is a limousine, he can tell that much off the bat; the partition is closed, the glass tinted as dark as it legally can be, the interior leather light-colored, the bar fully stocked with different sodas and crystal-cut decanters full of various liquors, which makes him wince in memory of the champagne.
He feels like shit, but when he looks over and sees the blue-eyed Brit—his soulmate—his soulmate who had fucking drugged him and was working with the mob—it makes him feel even shittier.
“Ah,” his soulmate says. He’s sitting with one ankle resting on his knee, a squat glass of whiskey in hand. He has glasses on now that he hadn’t had on before. Also, his accent is no longer British; he’s got a nice Italian lilt to his voice, now. “Good. You’re awake.”
Virgil stares at him. He doesn’t say a word.
“I’ll admit this,” he gestures between them, “rather put a cinch in my plan on how to deal with you.”
“Would you have killed me?” Virgil asks. His voice comes out a croak. “If we weren’t...”
He trails off.
The man’s eyebrow arches, before he shrugs, and rolls up his sleeve. His soulmark is in the same place as Virgil’s—stamped across his left inner arm, in the spiky handwriting Virgil only uses in his personal notes, not the more uniform one he writes reports with.
Did you just fucking poison me, you fucking asshole?!
Undeniably a matching soulmark to his.
“My parents were quite bemused by it, when it showed up,” the Brit—or American?—the blue-eyed—his soulmate says. “I suppose we have our answers now.”
“Do we?” he says.
The man takes a sip of whiskey. Then, he says, “Your predecessor was FBI. Are you the same?”
Virgil tenses. The man rolls his eyes again.
“Please,” he murmurs. “For an organization meant to be secretive, your lot are quite obvious when you trade moles in and out. One comes in, goes out, and coincidentally someone new is knocking on the door within the week. It’s absurdly simple to pinpoint who’s reporting back to your government. So. FBI, CIA, military...?”
“Who gives a fuck,” Virgil says.
“One should know what one’s soulmate does for a living, shouldn’t they?” he says. “This is a very unique situation. I’m simply trying to find out—”
“What do you do for a living, then?” Virgil snarls. His head is pounding, his mouth is dry and it tastes dreadful, his soulmate is an asshole working for the other side, and he’s being carted off to God knows where. This day is one of the worst of his life. Why couldn’t he have had a nice little café meet-cute, like Roman had had?
The man smiles at him, not particularly kindly. “I diversify.”
Virgil pulls a face, because he knows that’s poking fun at his cover.
“What,” Virgil says, “poison people on Monday, go to Ida Kelly’s resort on Tuesday, with a fun little Friday jaunt of killing people who cross the Trumans?”
“I’ve never actually been to the museum Ida Kelly curates,” the man admits. “It was an easy way to insert myself near you, to put it in your drink. And for goodness’ sake, it wasn’t poison.”
“Roofie. Drug. Whatever.”
The man’s eyebrows pull together, in a rather petulant expression. “I designed that myself, you know.”
“Well, it’s shit,” Virgil snaps. “I feel like I have the worst hangover of my goddamn life.”
“Yes, that was part of the design,” the man says, and offers him a glass of water.
Virgil stares at him. “Seriously.”
“No trust between soulmates?” He says.
“Yeah, well. Fool me once.”
The man shrugs, putting down the glass of water into a cupholder, before digging out a sealed water bottle. Virgil takes it and places it into a cupholder near him. No fucking way he’s accepting any food or drink from this man.
His lips quirk up into a smile.
“Where are you taking me?” Virgil says, ignoring the way that smile makes his heart pound.
“That rather depends,” he admits.
“On?”
“Well.” He says. He uncrosses his legs, planting both feet on the floor. “I’m assuming that now the man in your little earpiece—he was rather rude—is aware that you have been, what is it you say? Made?”
Virgil nods.
“Well. Now that he, and therefore your employer, knows that you are made, you won’t be poking your nose into Truman business anymore, will you?”
Virgil grits his teeth. “Not undercover.”
The man ignores that. “And I know that no matter which you work for, the Lewis clause has been adopted across every arm of that government, and as such you’ll be prohibited from any mission that might bring you into contact with me.”
God damn it. How does he know the spy lessons better than Virgil does?
And then it occurs to him: Janus knew that man. He warned Virgil to get away from him, to get away from Lo—
He rolls this information around in his head. The Lewis clause isn’t exactly a widely advertised part of being a spy; there was a whole trilogy of novels that got adapted into secret agent movies, years ago, that concerned opposing agent spies coming to face each other again and again, and the secondary soulmate agents teamed up together. Which the Lewis clause would prevent, but the public who went and read those novels or saw those movies wouldn’t know that.
So either this man—Lo? Lo what?—either knows a lot about spies, because he’s one of those know your enemy types, or...
Or he sat down and learned about the Lewis clause the same way that Virgil did, except he actually sat down and listened. Maybe he defected, maybe he’s dirty? Or maybe Virgil’s just overthinking it.
Look. Virgil’s got a lot of questions here. Chief among which:
“Where are you taking me?”
“Away,” the man says vaguely, looking at him. “Are you gay?”
Virgil gapes at him.
“I’d be perfectly fine with a platonic soulmate, but for the sake of disclosure, I am gay.”
“For the sake of disclosure,” Virgil repeats disbelievingly, and pinches the bridge of her nose, rubbing it. God, his head hurts terribly.
“Bisexual, or pansexual, perhaps?” He prompts. “Asexual? Or... you could be straight, I suppose.”
“Ugh,” Virgil says reflexively, then shakes himself. “I’m not—okay. Fine. Yeah, I’m gay too.”
“All right,” the man says, as if noting it. “What’s your name?”
Virgil snorts.
“What?”
“Okay, I don’t—” he gestures to the limousine around them. “Again, you just drugged me. I don’t know where you’re taking me. You probably would have killed me if I hadn’t said those words.”
The man makes a moue of distaste.
“Or had someone kill me, I don’t know,” Virgil amends. “Either way, you’re working with that family, who I’m assuming aren’t pleased at having a spy getting caught trying to work himself into your ranks, so I’d rather you not know all that much about my life, thanks.”
“It’s not like I’m asking for your,” an infinitesimal pause, as if he’s wracking his brain, trying to remember something, “social security number or anything. A name.”
Virgil stares at this man. Lo—. Lo something. Lochlan? Loyd? Or was it a codename?
“Yours first.”
The man pauses.
“You drugged me,” Virgil says.
He smiles at Virgil. “Will you hold this over my head for the rest of our lives?”
The rest of our lives. Yes, that’s meant to be the fairytale ending for soulmates, isn’t it? A nice little meeting, the swell of overdramatic violins in the background, falling into each other’s arms and forming a life together. That’s the popular answer.
More and more recently, though, people have been advocating for choice; that soulmates are not always the best person for you.
Virgil doesn’t know which camp he and this man will fall into, just now.
“Yes,” Virgil says quietly. “Yes, I think I will.”
The man sets aside his whiskey.
“Logan.” He says at last, and his accent has changed again; it’s vague, almost indecipherable, but if Virgil had to guess he’d say Midwestern American. Virgil wonders if it’s his real one. “My name is Logan.”
Logan.
“How do I know you’re telling the truth?”
“Since discovering you’re my soulmate? I haven’t lied to you at all. Not a word.”
“Except for the accent.”
Logan laughs.
“Habit, sorry. It’s a long story that perhaps the man screaming in your earpiece will be able to tell you one day.”
Virgil jolts with surprise. “You know—?”
He cuts himself off before he can say Janus’ name.
“Reputationally,” Logan says, and, as strange as it is, Virgil believes him. In this, at least.
His soulmate’s name is Logan.
“Virgil.”
Logan smiles, his blue eyes glittering. “It’s nice to meet you, Virgil.”
There’s the sound of a soft knock on the partition, and it lowers; Virgil can’t see the driver.
“Sir? We’re here.”
“Right,” Logan murmurs, shaking himself. He reaches into his jacket and withdraws an envelope, offering it for Virgil.
Virgil hesitates.
Logan rolls his eyes. “It’s not like I’ve laced it with anything. I’m holding it with my bare hands.”
Virgil huffs, but he takes it, opening it and pulling out a thin piece of paper.
It’s a commercial flight ticket to Washington, D.C.
“Why D.C.?” Virgil says quietly.
“Most of those organizations are based there,” Logan says. “Is it too far a jump to assume that you are, as well?”
It is actually too far a jump; it’s not even remotely close, he lives in an entirely different part of the states. But. To be fully honest, he doesn’t want Logan to know the state he lives in, and therefore the state that Patton and Roman live in, until Virgil knows if he can be trusted or not.
Logan opens the limousine door from inside, revealing they’ve pulled up to the local airport.
“What, no private plane?”
“I assumed you wouldn’t trust that,” Logan says with a shrug. “The Trumans may be powerful, but you know as well as I that manipulating a flight of this nature is well outside their purview.”
Logan’s right, he absolutely wouldnt have trusted that, but. This limo’s pretty swanky. For the time he wouldn’t have been obsessively running over every crack and seam in a private jet and interrogating the pilot, he probably would have had a pretty swell time.
Virgil swallows, looking up at Logan. “There are programs, you know? If you wanted to be a witness. Be in service to—”
Logan smiles at him in a way that’s almost pitying. “I left that life behind a long time ago.”
Virgil looks to the airport, then back at Logan.
“Will I see you again?”
Logan shrugs again, almost delicately. “Who’s to say?”
Virgil nods, once, and he says firmly, “I’ll see you later.”
Logan grins at him. “Not if I see you first.”
Virgil slips out of the limo, slams the door shut, and, with what feels like Herculean effort, manages to get into the airport without looking back to see if he can see Logan through the tinted glass.
He does exchange the ticket for another that’s an hour and a half later, though. He’s not a total idiot.
He gets through security pretty quick, and sits in one of the incredibly uncomfortable chairs, his brain pounding with his headache, the questions swirling around in his head making it even worse. Virgil puts his head in his hands.
He just met his soulmate.
His soulmate is working for a mob family.
He just met his soulmate.
His soulmate is apparently smart enough to specifically engineer a roofie.
His soulmate, though!
Janus knows his soulmate. Janus recognized his soulmate.
His soulmate knew about the fucking Lewis clause.
Was his soulmate a spy too? Was his soulmate in deep cover? Had he betrayed his organization? Was he a good person, or had the universe seen fit to hitch Virgil to someone awful?
How had Logan gotten entangled with the Trumans in the first place? Why wasn’t he in the dossier?
Where was Logan even from? Did he like coffee? Hot chocolate? What had he studied in school? What was his favorite food? If they were normal people, would he have asked him on a date and not drugged him and dragged him off in a limo?
Who was Logan?
Whatever the answers to his questions are, though. Virgil knows himself enough to know that he isn’t about to let this case go. Not the Trumans. Not him.
Lewis clause be damned.

2021 / 52
Aperçu of the Week:
"If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor."
(Desmond Tutu, South African Anglican archbishop, human rights activist and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, died last week at the age of 90. No doubt: this guy will rest in peace!)
Bad News of the Week:
Bureaucracy. A very German speciality. When making a decision, you don't have to think too hard and weigh up the pros and cons - because there's bound to be a regulation that governs it. Of all nations, the "people of poets and thinkers" hardly use common sense and prefer to fall back on the appropriate form. Example laws, I just took a quick look at category A: "AARKZustAnO" stands for "Order on the assignment of responsibilities for issuing notices of objection and for representing the employer in actions brought by employees of the Federal Foreign Office in matters of travel expenses" and "AAÜGErstV" for "Ordinance on the Reimbursement of Expenses under the Act on the Transfer by the Federal Government of Claims and Entitlements under Supplementary and Special Pension Schemes of the Accession Territory". Any questions?
Ordinances, application regulations, rules, codes of conduct and much more naturally also exist in epic breadth. Which leads to many processes taking half an eternity. Two recent examples: Tesla is already producing the first pre-series vehicles in its new Gigafactory in Grünheide near Berlin, yet there are only provisional approvals so far. A final permit has not even been issued for the so-called subsoil preparation. And since 2012, basic planning for a power line from offshore wind farms in the North Sea to industrial areas in the south of Germany has been officially laid down in the Federal Republic of Germany's "Grid Development Plan". After ten years, it is hoped to formally conclude with the first planning step, which merely defines corridors. It is a pity that neither globalization nor global warming will make allowances for lengthy procedures.
The fact that on top of the local, municipal, county, district, state and federal levels there is still the European Union does not make it any easier. An absurd example from this week: due to a slump in bookings due to Corona and the associated travel restrictions, Lufthansa wanted to cancel about 51,000 flight connections for the first quarter of 2022. However, only 33,000 of these will actually be cancelled. The other 18,000 will be operated as "empty flights" without passengers, as otherwise take-off permits would be lost due to lack of use. This is ecological and economic madness.
And when things go fast, they go wrong: on New Year's Eve, the sale of fireworks was banned on short notice in Germany. But not the use of them. As a result, Germans were happy to stand in line for three hours in front of the corresponding sales points behind the Polish border so as not to miss out on this senseless and dangerous fun. The result can be imagined: it was nevertheless and still much too much banged. In addition, environmental pollution, terrorized animals, seriously injured people and completely absurd Twitter threads about "how much individual freedom this pretentious state actually still wants to curtail". I wish you a good night. And now to the weather forecast...
Good News of the Week:
So, sweeping all the bits and pieces together, I at least get Good News from Germany for the environment:
Plastic bags have been banned since yesterday. But only the big, colorful ones at the checkout - not the small bags with handles for vegetables and fruit. But at least they only need about 20 years to decompose - instead of 100 to 500. I'm not even sure if I mean that sarcastically.
By the day before yesterday, three more nuclear power plants had been shut down. However, the last three are still on the grid for another year. And next door in France? Still 80% of the electricity comes from nuclear power. And now it's even to be greenwashed. This is ridiculous, since the assessment of environmental damage cannot be based solely on CO2 emissions.
This year, the ban on so-called chick shredding will also take effect. But male chicks still rarely have a life expectancy of more than one day, so now they are gassed. And the market introduction of technology that can determine the sex of the egg before hatching is still far away.
From now on, mandatory deposits will apply to all plastic bottles and all beverage cans. Previous exceptions, such as fruit juice in a bottle or energy drinks in a can, have been eliminated. I didn't understand that anyway. Nevertheless, there are still exceptions, e.g. for milk drinks. I still don't understand that anyway.
Personal happy moment of the week:
Let's make it short: My wife and I spent New Year's Eve with a 6-hour Zoom marathon with her French-Canadian friends and family. The highlight of all conversations was just that: "My wife and I..." ;-)
I couldn't care less...
...that the Austrian ex-chancellor Sebastian Kurz will work for tech investor Peter Thiel in the future. It just fits the picture, as both interpret the boundaries between normal lobbying and covert political influence for personal gain "rather flexibly". So anything but surprising. And probably the first time that a 35-year-old is included in the A list of "elder statesmen".
As I write this...
...I am fighting with reflux again. Doctor Google always has the same suggestions: less stress, less fat, less sugar, less alcohol, less caffeine. But seriously now: what can be done about it?
Post Scriptum:
Every year there is this trend: the song that was #1 on the hit list on your birthday (the very first one) is your personal motto for the coming year. This time I actually checked for the first time - and I'm speechless: it was "Get back" by The Beatles! Not only is that a choice motto for the year after this f*#*+* 2021 (I'm glad to share!). No, since Peter Jackson's documentary of the same name on Disney+, this song has also replaced "Hey Jude" as my current favorite Beatles song. Oh my god, there's prediction for real!

May I ask? Have u given any thought to the flags and size of planets such as zhene koyu or vaonaa?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Below the cut ^-^
Tumblr media
Zhen flag is reference to their planetary animal and planetary colors. Vaonaa’s represents their oneness and connection that the prevalent wind on the planet provides. Koyu is the crown jewels, the planet’s form, and the dark eyes that are characteristic of Koyuvians.
Tumblr media
Eraklyan’s don’t technically have a wedding dress, usually they just wear a nice gown, and modern weddings with use a more traditional clothing style. Bloom here is in a royal gown, so the average Eraklyan would have shorter sleeves/dress, a less ornate vest, and no cape. Eraklyan Weddings are heavy on tradition, and have a set structure of courtship, engagement, ceremony, and post ceremony. Courtship isn’t dating, but a declaration of the intent to be married, engagement is the actual contract between the couple, and the ceremony consists of spoken vows and exchanging of personal jewels. Each person on Eraklyon has a gem given/assigned to them at birth, in the past personal jewels were thought to hold a person’s soul. Worn as jewelry( bracelet ring, piercing, everything except a necklace), these gems are given to the other as part of the wedding, if a person is not Eraklyan, they will pick out a gem at the start of the courtship. Instead of wedding rings Eraklyans propose/signify marriage with necklaces(the necklaces are separate from personal jewels, only necklaces can be used for marriage) Bloom has the heart of Eraklyon which is a specific jewel that been passed down through the people who marry INTO the Eraklyan royal family. The average Eraklyan engagement jewel is basically the same shape tho usually smaller. Eraklyan women also put their hair up after they are married or for the wedding, in ancient times sometimes the wedding day would be the first time an Eraklyan woman had tied her hair up in her entire life. Modern times have relaxed this custom but its still pretty common for unmarried women to leave their hair down most of the time and married women to wear their hair up more often than not. Sky initiated their courtship period in the first movie, Bloom(and Domino) misunderstood and thought he was officially proposing. He proposes in season 5 with the Heart of Eraklyon.
MOVING ON TO ZHEN
History: Zhen is a very rigid planet social customs-wise, but they have a long history of political unrest and war. The planet is divided into small feudal states, and each one is constantly on alert for invasion or offense from the others. Through a very clever scheme, a prince of a larger state convinced another state to send him one of their princesses/princes as a peace treaty. Then claimed the prince/princess never arrived to the palace(they did, were not harmed and  hidden away in the lap of luxury) and propositioned a different state for a marriage peace treaty. Eventually he revealed he had kept the royals safe and alive and had legally binding peace contracts with each of the states he had tricked. Zhenese have an intense code of honor and will follow rules/contracts the way the fae do even if its inconvenient for them lmao. He became the leading power, and forced the other states to send him some of their family to stay at his central palace. Zhen was then at peace for longer than before in their history, eventually developing the central system of government with a central royal family. Local rulers still send a portion of their family to live at the palace complex as a tradition and a safety measure, though the family and their Regent will switch off visiting the hub. Unfortunately, the most recent Emperor and Empress were assassinated and their daughter, the closet heir, disappeared, thought to be captured or killed as well. Leaving the royal families to claim a right to the throne and fight it out. Ho-boe left a week after the assassination on one of the last ships before the rival states set up blockades for each other’s fleets/communications.
Cimate: Zhen is on the cold side and has numerous mountain ranges littering the continents with very flat land in between them. Their coastlines are ragged with a lot of good bays to use as ports. They have a lot of rivers in the mountains which generally combine into one major river across the plains. They grow a lot of grains, and are excellent hunters, surviving on a very high protein diet (it’s theorized that Zhenese evolved their sharp teeth, hearing, and low center of gravity with heavy musculature to become more ideal hunters in their environment) During peace, Zhen exported a lot of unique furs, minerals, and their woodworking skills(they don’t have a lot of forest to use for export but they are master craftsmen) Their clothing is usually wool, from the Zhenese Argali, a sheep/goat like animal with orange/red wool and blue(ish) horns. These animals are the most prevalent species on Zhen and are wild, domestic, used for wool, skins, dyes, meat, household objects, and even their bones are used whenever possible.
Tumblr media
Clothing: traditional dress is still worn on Zhen instead of Magix modern styles. In general: Thick sock/shoes with leather soles tied around the ankle, loose cotton pants, a pleated wool skirt, a shirt with a square stand up collar and long straight sleeves, a short sleeved jacket or structured tunic layered on top, sometimes a wrapped belt. Hair styles are complex and accessorized.  In warmer areas the skirt and sleeves are shorter, and usually only a lighter jacket is worn. In cold weather they wear a wrapped fur hat, several layers of wool shirts and skirts. Royal wear always features the planetary colors, a complex headress, and wide skirts with several layers. and stupidly wide sleeves (usually they cover the hands entirely but if a royal is doing anything they usually roll them up) royal coat/tunics feature a lot of embroidery, usually of geometric patterns, as well as draped tied from the shoulders(usually white). For a wedding Zhenese wear black yellow and white. Black is only worn for weddings and symbolizes the seriousness of the relationship that being officiated. They also have a hat with a bead veil and a pin through the hair with fabric/paper hanging from them onto the shoulders. The beads on the hat are strung in a very specific order, reflecting the planets reliance on rules and order, the veils can taken weeks to make because if a mistake is made all the beads have to be taken off and started over. A braided chord with threads of the planetary colors is knotted around the waist to represent the planet and culture as a whole. Married Zhenese have a short thread of beads they hang from their hats or hair pins.
VAONAA
History: Generally known for their spirituality and rich knowledge, Vaonaa has a fairly standard history. Fighting slowly stopped and the various groups on the planet were united after the incorporation of magic into their culture.(yes i know this is unrealistic leave me and my idealistic alien planets alone) One substantial difference is that Vaonaa developed an electoral system of government as opposed to a monarchy. Consisting of three groups (elders, adults, and youth) they’re all part of a larger group called the Council. Each individual group has to have an equal ratio of men/women/nb. Each county has one person elected and the other person assigned(like jury duty). The council is the main authority on everything and is a full time job. The Vaonaar is like a president/prime minister temporary position, every time a council member is appointed they submit a name of their most trusted person, if the council deadlocks over a decision a name from the list the Council members provided is randomly chosen to resolve the deadlock over a period of a few weeks so they actually have time to hear all the arguments and read relevant materiel. there are also more local officials like police/librarians/parks and rec etc.
Climate: Vaonaa has a lot of flat grass land, with a high proportion of mesa formations. as a result of these steep valleys Vaonaa has strong wind currents. They coatline is relatively smooth, and they usually have to use rivers as ports because bays aren’t super common. They have many different types of grasses, and are especially known for their high quality textile production. They export their textiles, precious stones, and metal work.
Tumblr media
Clothing: Vaonaaj usually wear deerskin, suede, wool, and cotton. Tunics tied together at the sides, leggings, and poncho styled blankets, and wrapped or metal belts are the basic clothing items. Beaded necklaces and earnings are common accessories for everyone. Hair is worn in either one or two braids. In warm weather, a short tunic and soft moccasins are worn  In colder weather a woven blackets is wrapped around the body or tucked into the belt, leggings are added under the tunic, and wrapped skins are layered over the moccasins and leggings and secured just below the knee sometimes the blanket has a smaller buttoned on hood but i didn’t draw that. Royal Vaonaaj have a longer tunic with stitched details and beaded sections.a more complex belt, and a rectangular blue vest/shawl worn under the belt. For weddings, Vaonaaj wear a loose tunic/dress and wrapped leather around their feet instead of mocasins. strips of fabric and jewelry is in the four colors Vaonaa considers sacred, white, green, blue, and rust red. White and blue represent the wind, blue also represents royalty and honor, green represents the grasses that cover most of the planet and are used in making textiles, the rust red represents a grounding connection to the earth something the people tend to forget because they are so dependent on the wind and all. Married Vaonaaj keep a colored thread woven into their hair, in modern times this is usually done through magic.
(PSA: I almost exclusively based this planet/culture on Navajo native Americans, with some tweaks because fantasy alien planet.  I am not native, if any of this is inappropriate please let me know.)
(second less important psa: its like super hard to find clothing references for native american cultures before European contact so if any one has some good sources pls lmk)
KOYU
History: Koyu is thought to have begun as a dwarf planet with a highly poisonous atmosphere struck by an asteroid and pushed further towards the sun it was orbiting. This increased the radiation levels which caused the dormant fungal growth on the asteroid to begin growing at exponential rates. The growth also filtered out the toxins in the lower atmosphere but eventually reached a state of equilibrium and was unable to grow any bigger. The outer reaches of the formation are still technically living matter, but the inner reaches have dried and kind of fossilized creating a porous tangle of branches around the planets core.  Koyuvian’s eyes have evolved to be intensely receptive to any light in their environment because the inner tangles are very dark and fire cannot be used as the dried growth produces poisonous smoke when burned. many plants and animals on Koyu are luminescent and are some are farmed and used as light sources. water runs through some hollow sections of the growth like vertical rivers. others are used as highways or roads. especially large knots of tangles usually become cities. spaces that don’t have as many branches of growth are known as the voids and are avoided because its easy to get lost or fall and especially dangerous animal/plant life occupy those spaces.
Climate: The outer reaches of the planet is very hot, and has a lot of dangerous radiation, so people don’t live there. The inner reaches of the planet don’t have direct sunlight and can be pretty cold, but there are still pockets that have a decent amount of warmth due to insulation, being closer to the radiation, or the planet’s core producing some heat.  Koyu exports some of their unique animal and plant life, and Koyuvian mushrooms are some of the most highly sought after produce/garden items in the magix universe but they are almost impossible to grow off planet. Koyu has very small mineral reserves but will export Koyuvian Diamonds for jewelry and technology which are formed in high heat high pressure vent branches of the tangles.
Tumblr media
Clothing: Koyu’s main priority for clothing is mobility, so their clothing is durable simple, and easily fastened or unfastened as needed. usually a shirt with a vest/coat, loose pants, a long piece of fabric around the waist that can be used as a rope in emergencies, and rough sole socks are worn. Koyuvians rarely wear shoes. In warm areas a rectangular fabric with a hole for the head is worn over the shoulders and secured with a wrap of fabric around the waist and lower chest.the pants are thin fabric loosely fastened with small leather cuff, usually with a slit up the side for ventilation. In cold areas a long sleeves undershirt is worn with a lined coat usually the sleeves can be buttoned or left hanging. the pants here are a thicker material with no slit and a fur lined leather cuff at the ankle, the socks might be a tad thicker but have to thin enough for the Koyuvian to have some grip. The royals are usually the only ones with any embroidery since detail work like that is hard to do in the dark lmao. Royal dress also usually features sheer material and an extra skirt layer . The veil is able to easily detach from the crown in case it gets stuck in anything and the sleeves are secured at the wrist and neck but can also be unbuttoned if they’re in the way. For weddings the bride and groom (or what have you) are dressed in dark colors, and a blindfold. because sight is so crucial to Koyuvians survival, removing it during the ceremony puts the bride and groom in a state of vulnerability, the metal disks attached to the blindfold ring as the couple moves, their goal is to find each other, and then find a Basket, a natural formation in the Tangle that looks like a small nest, its usually used as a temple/sanctuary.  They have their friends and family watching over them to prevent any serious danger but they aren’t allowed to help the couple. The reason for dark colors is for camouflage from wild animals but the gold on the breast is so the family can spot them. The couple find a basket, share a small meal there and the marriage is official. Married Koyuvians have small tattoos on their wrists.

do you think whiterose is going to be canon?
Ahaha... I wish you’d asked me that before Volume 7. After V6, I would have said it has a solid chance. Now after the complete absence of Ruby and Weiss interactions, my confidence has plummeted. Maybe V8 will make up for that. We’ll find out in a few months.
I’ve thought about this a fair bit, so if I had to rate the chances of Ruby’s endgame it’d be...
50% No one. She’s had very few romance-coded moments at all. She’ll definitely have close platonic partners by the end of the show, but I wouldn’t be surprised if she stays single and happy with it. Aro Ruby is a nice headcanon too.
25% Penny. After all their moments in V7 and previous volumes and chibi? It’s not hard to imagine. Her and Ruby have always had a special connection that Ruby doesn’t have with anyone else imo. Out of all of Ruby’s ships, it’d be the easiest one to turn romantic. Plus, Lindsey and Miles have stated Nuts and Dolts is one of their favorite ships, so it’s got some CRWBY support.
12% Weiss. I’m rating it low after Volume 7. Tragic, I know. I’m sad about it too. They have history together, but not many of their moments have felt outright romantic when compared to bees or renora. Ruby’s “I knew you would” in V6 is as strong as it’s gotten in recent volumes. If it becomes canon, it’d probably be an end of the show thing like Korrasami.
12% Oscar. Their moment in V7 showed it’s a possibility, but until that becomes a regular thing, I’m putting it on the same level as post-V7 white rose. There’s no doubt that Oscar is closest to Ruby out of everyone on the cast. I’m certain they’ll continue developing that connection and have some relevance in each other’s arcs, but whether that turns romantic is yet to be seen. At the very least, this would also be an end of the show thing. I highly doubt the writers would ship them while Ozpin is still third-wheeling in Oscar’s head.
1% Jaune. Sorry, dude. It’s a cute ship, but I don’t think it’s going to happen. CRWBY denied a Ruby and Jaune hug in Volume 4 because they didn’t want it to come off as romantic. They finally got the hug in V6, but I’m not catching shippy vibes from it.
??% Emerald. And the wildcard ship that I’m not even going to bother trying to assign a percentage to. Ruby absolutely had a crush on Emerald in V1-3. She turned into a blushing mess at a mere compliment! Nowadays, Emerald is looking like she’s on route to a redemption. She doesn’t want to be with Salem, and she’s in denial that Cinder doesn’t care about her. But you know who’d be the type to give Emerald the acceptance and validation she needs? Maybe a smaller, more honest soul...
Also worth noting is that three out five of these ships fulfill the opposite colored soulmate trope (Ruby’s red to their green). Emerald’s also got red eyes, so that gives her double credit. You could also argue Weiss works as a functional opposite with red/blue in the same way Renora are with their color schemes.
Well those are my thoughts. I’m not going to bother rating Weiss’s ships in detail (very likely no one, maybe Ruby, maybe Jaune, maybe someone else the fandom hasn’t considered). Feel free to discuss!
...
...Frosen Steel is one hell of a reach, but damn am I hoping for it. Give us the poly rep, CRWBY. I dare you.

What We Do in the Resistance
Happy birthday @hanorganaas!!! I’m so happy to have you in my life and talk about all kinds of crazy stuff that somehow becomes reality. Also thank you for always putting up with my nonsense during betaing. It’s not Chickenverse, but I hope this WWDITS AU still is entertaining and fun!
AO3
There was a stack of mail on the table when Rey came back from the weapons room. She must have missed it when she went to go and polish her collection of staves after waking up. Yesterday, their familiar had forgotten the mail so there was much more of it today. Mostly boring old human junk that they never had any use for, or that their familiar just took care of.
Rey glided into the sitting room where her compatriots were. Finn’s coffin had been empty when she awoke this evening, so it made sense for him to be there. Poe was also in the room with him. Both of them were hunched on the table, working on building another model aircraft. In his vampiric life, Poe had become quite fond of building planes and such. He had a whole room upstairs full of the models he had been constructing since they first moved into this house.
“Hux remembered the mail today,” Rey said, flopping onto the couch. “There’s a lot of it.”
“Has another package come for me?” Poe asked, an eager glint in his eyes. “I’ve almost finished this one.”
“You ordered it yesterday,” Finn reminded him. “It’s going to arrive in three days.”
“I thought we had the two-day shipping?”
“No, we were running out of money,” Rey sighed and leaned against Finn, flipping through the mail. “Bill, bill, coupons for the store, bill, bill- oh, there’s a mattress store opening.”
“Unless they customize for coffins, not interested,” Poe muttered. “Can we have Hux go in the daylight and ask them then?”
“Ask him. There’s another bill, and…oh.”
Finn turned to her. “Oh?”
              Rey held up an ivory colored envelope. It was addressed to their residence in blood red ink with the sender’s address located in California. She didn’t even have to turn it over to see the seal to know who it was from. The Vampire Resistance wanted to notify them about something.
Finn’s eyes widened. “Oh.”
“Do they have an assignment for us?” Poe leaned forward in his chair. “But that means we’re going to have to get Ben up here.”
“Not doing that,” Finn shook his head.
Poe rose to his feet. “I’ll go wake Hux and have him do it. Ben seems to actually like him.”
“Yeah, go ahead,” Rey leaned a little more into Finn. “We’ll wait for you.”
~~~
“I became a vampire almost one hundred years ago. During my mortal life, I was alone for almost all of it. Living off scraps, selling junk I could find for money. I never really had any sort of home. It sounds worse than it was. Still it was pretty bad.”
“Then, one day, I was hunting in a scrapyard for something to sell and found an old brooch. I planned to sell it the following day, but I was followed home and bitten. It was a vampire, who turned me as punishment for stealing. I had to pay off my crime by working for him, collecting stolen items. Then Finn came along, newly turned. He said he was with the Vampire Resistance, where there were others like us. I went along with him in search of it. Finn was my first friend…and my first love.”
~~~
Finn was pacing around as they waited for the fourth member of the house to arrive. “Should it be taking this long for Hux to get Ben out of the basement?”
Rey shrugged. “Could he be trying to drain him again?”
“I’ve been hearing a lot of thumping down there at times,” Poe muttered under his breath.
Rey shuddered.
“Oh, come on, I’ve heard you and Finn-”
“Do NOT finish that sentence!”
“Rey and Finn have been what?”
              All three vampires startled and hissed in reaction to the sudden arrival. Ben had an unfortunate habit of sneaking up on them in the house. He’d started it in the last few years and it was really starting to get on everybody’s nerves. Hopefully, this letter from the Resistance could kick him out of that. At least Poe hoped it would.
“Ben-”
“It’s Kylo Ren,” the dark-haired vampire corrected as he glided across the floor in his black robes. “Why have I been summoned from my lair?”
“We summoned you from your room because the Vampire Resistance has sent us a letter,” Finn held up the letter that Rey had given him. “And we should all be present to hear it.”
“Including me?” Hux, their familiar, asked from where he was standing by the doorway.
Rey was about to say something, but Ben just nodded. “Yes, please stay, Armitage.”
Hux smiled to himself and scooted in the room a little further.
Finn handed to the envelope over to Poe. “You do the honors.”
“I still don’t understand why this has to exist,” Ben muttered from his seat. “Why do we need a system of rules about our containment? As soon as the humans die off, so do we.”
“Because some vampires need to be kept in check from draining or turning whole cities,” Poe reminded him as he cracked the seal on the envelope. “Ah, here we are.”
“Who’s it from?” Finn asked at the same time Rey asked. “What does it say?”
“Give me a second, it’s parchment!” Poe fussed as he unfolded the letter. “To the vampiric residents in Albany. We hope you are all in good health. This letter is being sent to inform you that despite no contact for three decades, we are still monitoring your situation on the East Coast. Within a week of sending this, the General will be arriving in New York by train to come and see how you are all doing with your monitoring of the vampire population. Please make the proper preparations for her arrival. She is looking forward to seeing you. Signed, the Council of the Vampire Resistance.”
Finn looked happy. “The General’s coming? That should be fun. It’ll be nice to have another vampire out here.”
Ben stood up. “I’m going back to my lair. No one disturb me.”
              The trio and Hux watched as Ben glided out of the room, heading towards the weapons room first. They watched him glide down the stairs to the basement with a broadsword. A few moments later, there was screaming and shouting. The noise of something breaking followed after that. Rey, Finn, and Poe waited for more, but nothing more came.
“He’s taking the news well,” Rey remarked sarcastically.
Finn glanced at her. “You think?”
“Why would he be taking things so-”
Hux trailed off as Ben came up from the basement, broadsword in hand.
“Armitage,” he panted. “I am going to need a new coffin.”
~~~
“The General is Ben’s mother. Biologically. It’s a little strange with his family. They were descended from a lineage of vampire hunters. His parents, his uncle, himself. They all stumbled upon a nest one day and it was too much. Every single one of them was turned.”
“They could have all become bloodthirsty killers. Instead, they formed the Vampire Resistance to keep vampires in check. Protect the balance between the human world and the one of the vampires. Leia, Ben’s mother, found me not long after I turned and gave me a new purpose with this eternal life. And then I found Finn and tried to bring him to her. But that got complicated. He still found her in the end. With Rey.”
“Ben has a difficult time with his family. He’s struggled most with the code and butted heads with both of his parents about it. Also, he seems to be going through a weird phase the last few years. He’s calling it his…Elmo phase. That’s what the humans call it, right?”
~~~
              They only had one more day to prepare for the General’s arrival. Ben had been playing loud music in the basement for most of it, still moody about the letter. Hux had gone to the mattress store yesterday at Rey’s request to see if they could get a specialized order. Fortunately, they could, so that was some good news. Poe had been rearranging the art a little to freshen up their house and Rey had taken to polishing all the weapons.
              It was Finn’s turn to go shopping this week and had taken the familiar with them. They needed more cleaning products and some detergent. There was also a list of things to get for the General. Everyone wanted things to be perfect for her arrival. It had been years since they had last seen her.
“So you’ve met the General before?” Hux asked as they headed up the cleaning supply aisle. “What’s she like?”
“The greatest woman ever if she became a vampire,” Finn told him. “She’s the one brought us all together.”
“And she’s Ren’s mother.”
“You have got to stop calling him that,” he groaned, tossing in some bleach wipes and Tide pens into the basket. “It’s really getting to his head. What’s next on the list?”
Hux looked down at the scrap of paper. “Glitter. Is that right?”
“Yep. Have you contacted the blood bank yet?”
“Blood bank?”
Finn frowned as they headed towards the craft supplies. “Where else do you think we’re going to get our blood?”
“Ren- er, Ben told us to get virgins for this. I set up a thing on the Internet-”
“NO!” Finn hissed at the human. “Take it down immediately! We don’t do that!”
“But-”
“No buts. The virgin thing is garbage. We protect the balance not just by keeping vampires in check, but by taking as few lives as possible. So, take. It. Down.”
The familiar didn’t look pleased, but nodded. “I’ll do it when we get back. So how much glitter are we getting?”
Finn looked at the selection and its colors. “All of it.”
~~~
“No, no, I was not turned by the General. Or Poe. I was actually trained as a sort of soldier for a vampire. He wanted an army and I fell for a scheme. But then there was a revolt- Poe started it, he was a plant. He got me out of there and was going to get me to the Resistance. Then we got separated and I was on my own for a while before I met Rey.”
“You know when you meet someone and just feel a spark, like an instant connection. That’s what I felt with Rey. She’s incredible and brave and strong, even when she’s scared. When we were trying to find the Resistance, she was the strong one, not me. We got there together, and had a few years working for the General before she sent us out here with Poe and Ben. I’m lucky to spend every minute of this life with her.”
“No, Hux is not my familiar. Ben is technically his master, but he does stuff for us too. We treat him a lot better than most vampires usually treat their familiars. Between you and me though, I don’t trust the guy. He was trying to get virgins online for us. Ben won’t let him go though.”
~~~
              Thankfully, the train the General was arriving on arrived at nightfall. Hux had rented a truck that they all piled into. The familiar was driving with Ben in the front seat. Finn was in the back, between Rey and Poe. It was a quiet ride to the train station since Finn had stolen the aux cord that Ben could have used to play his terrible music. They were really going to have to do something to snap him out of this funk sooner opposed to later.
              Once they arrived at the station, Ben and Poe went to collect the crate containing the General as Hux, Finn, and Rey worked together to sign for it. Not having a heartbeat made it difficult for them to sign on the tablet, so Hux took care of it. They loaded the crate and headed back to the house, once again in total silence. There was still enough time to visit with her before the sun came up with the time they were making.
“Everything’s ready inside, right?” Rey asked as they got back to the house and were transporting the crate inside. “Hold that door, Poe.”
“The crate is holding it,” he called back. “And yes, Finn got everything ready. You did, didn’t you?”
“It’s all there,” Finn confirmed as they moved forward, bumping a table along the way and causing a vase to fall. “Oh, no!”
“It’s fine, it was a fake!” Rey assured him. “Ben, will you please lift your end!”
“I am lifting! And that was not a fake!”
“I used to collect junk, I know a fake from the real deal! Lift more!”
“Augh!” Ben yelled as Hux shut the door on his cape. “Armitage, open the damn door! And what is that smell?”
“I ordered candles online.”
Finn looked betrayed. “Rey, I was at the store last night!”
“But these are better! I haven’t even lit them yet and they already smell good.”
“Hey!” Poe shouted, shutting them all up. “We still have to get the General to her room. We can’t do that if we’re standing around and bickering about who’s lifting and buying candles!”
~~~
“So maybe I am little rebellious. Maybe I do want to eat a virgin to two. Maybe I am sleeping with my familiar. Does that make me a bad person? I don’t think so.”
……..
“Can you edit out that part about Armitage?”
~~~
              The casket opened slowly as the members of the household watched. Once the occupant inside was visible to everyone, she opened her eyes and smiled. She looked out at all of them before stepping out onto the glitter covered floorboards. Her eyes took in the quarters they had put her coffin in. The walls had been painted purple with a few bits of glitter that must have gotten caught in the paint job.
              Ahead of her were the vampires she had come to visit. Finn was still wearing that old bomber jacket that Poe had given to him ages ago. Rey looked happier and more at ease that she had ever seen her. Poe hadn’t changed a bit, so something stayed the same. Standing in the corner was a scrawny looking redhead who couldn’t stop making eyes at her son. And speaking of Ben, what the hell was the deal with those black robes?
“Welcome, General,” Poe greeted. “It’s good to see you again.
“It’s good to see you too. And I’ve told you to call me Leia. None of that General nonsense the Resistance has.”
Rey stepped forward; arms held out from her side hesitantly. Leia knew the girl had been through a lot even before becoming a vampire. and walked the rest of the way, holding her for a moment in a hug.
“Hi again,” Finn waved as Rey stepped back. “It’s been a while.”
“It has,” Leia agreed, turning to her son. “Ben?”
“Mother.”
“Why the black robes? You can wear whatever you want, it’s the twenty-first century.”
“I happen to like them. And so does Armitage.”
He must have been referring to the redhead who was smiling to himself. Leia gave him a nod. “So he’s the familiar?”
“Yes, Mother.”
Leia turned to him and gave him her most polite smile. She wasn’t sure she liked him yet. There was something about him that gave her a bad feeling. “It’s very nice to meet you.”
“You too, General.”
“I trust they’re all treating you well?”
“They are.”
Leia gave a nod of approval. “If they aren’t, I’ll make sure of it while I’m here. And I’ll be here quite a while.”
Poe’s eyes lit up. “You will?”
“I will. I haven’t seen much of the East Coast. Besides, my brother is up here in Pennsylvania coaching volleyball for some reason. I figured now would be a good time to visit.”
~~~
“I probably should have said that in the letter. But I thought it would be a nice surprise. Besides, they’re all good. I’d like to find out what my brother’s gotten up to. He went to go collect a debt and now he’s in Pennsylvania!”
~~~
“I can’t believe my mother is moving in with us.”
~~~
“Leia is living above her son’s room.”
“She’s going to find out he’s screwing his familiar.”
“Basically, he’s fucked.”
“Fucked.”
Around a month ago (or a few weeks ago, I don’t have long term memory), I made a post along the lines of ‘should I make a top ten Animal Crossing villagers list’? And even if it got no notes, I knew I was going to do it anyways, because I wanted to infodump about Animal Crossing and I still do! But I don’t think I actually knew what I was getting into; when I went through the list of all the Animal Crossing villagers, picking my favorites, I ended up with over 30 villagers that I really loved. So it’s now a top ten list, plus five honorable mentions that would have killed me upon impact to exclude. (And even then, I still ended up excluding some villagers that physically hurt me to leave out.)
So anyways, what I’m saying is, here’s my top ten Animal Crossing villagers, plus honorable mentions, AKA literally just one big infodump.
#10: Carmen
Tumblr media
Carmen is a peppy rabbit whose color scheme is clearly based off of mint chocolate chip. She’s one of my current villagers, and honestly, I got so excited when I saw her. I didn’t know she existed before, and I adore mint chocolate chip/food-themed villagers! One of my favorite fun facts about her is her catchphrase. I thought her catchphrase, ‘nougat’, was just a funny way of saying ‘nugget’, to go with her food theme. However, it’s a reference to a completely different food, which is made with nuts! Going back to her design, something about the way she looks makes her look both sassy and soft, and I love the vibes she gives off. So glad to have this funky bunny in my village.
(Rest is under the cut! :])
#9: Stella
Tumblr media
I honestly didn’t realize how partial I was towards sheep villagers until after I made this list.
So anyways, Stella just looks so calm and almost sleepy, which is a look that I really love on sheep-based characters, because of the tradition of counting sheep to fall asleep. She is perpetually blushing, which is an instant plus in the character design department for me. But her catchphrase, ‘baa-dabing’, just makes me think of her as a huge dork! A very sleepy and soft dork who I love.
#8: Fauna
Tumblr media
I consider Fauna a fairly popular villager, and I completely understand why. Her warm color scheme makes her look extremely welcoming, plus her cute appearance (again, with the blushy cheeks) makes her seem sweet and kind. Even her catchphrase, ‘dearie’, gives off almost motherly vibes. Adding to her motherly view from me is her skill being math and her goal being to become a teacher, which would help me a ton, because I suck at math! One of my favorite things about her comes in her Pocket Camp profile, which describes her as being very friendly and getting along with everyone, and her only true flaw being her competitive streak. This is followed up by advice to not look at her while playing cards. I love characters who are friendly and cutesy, but once you flip a certain switch, they enter ‘serious mode’.  I love Fauna, and I would let her beat me in Mario Kart.
#7: Mitzi
Tumblr media
I love Rosie as much as the next person, but personally, my favorite blue cat has to be Mitzi. She was one of the original villagers in my very first Animal Crossing towns, and she was very quickly one of my favorites in the village, because of her resemblance to a Siamese cat, which was one of my favorite breeds of cats. She was the first villager I ever sent a letter to or talked to, because I was drawn to her design, and I consider her my best friend in-game. She’s very nostalgic for me, but even if she didn’t have that tie to my childhood, I still think I’d adore this funky little cat!
#6: Cherry
Tumblr media
I don’t know to describe why I love Cherry except she gives me goth lesbian big sister vibes. Her personality type is literally ‘uchi’, which translates to ‘big sister’, which means she’s tough but caring and protective. Her profile says that she’s good to take to a concert, because you’d never lose each other, hinting she may make sure you’re safe. Even despite this, she has huge goth/emo vibes, with her appearance and catchphrase being ‘what what!’ I desperately want this fictional red dog to take me to a rock concert and be my older sibling.
#5: Etoile
Tumblr media
Remember how I said I love sleepy sheep? Yeah. Etoile is everything I love about Stella, but bass boosted. More pastel? Check. More themes of sleep and nighttime, with her name translating to ‘star’? Check. Blushy cheeks? Check!
Etoile is one of the Sanrio villagers, based off of the Little Twin Stars. I adore all of the Sanrio villagers, but Etoile is easily my favorite, despite my favorite actual Sanrio character being Cinnamoroll. And, despite not usually taking interior design into account, holy CRAP does Etoile have her aesthetic on POINT with her house! Like, I want to live in her house with everything within me, and it fits her perfectly.
Tumblr media
I may not know much about the Little Twin Stars, but I adore Etoile.
#4: Lucky
Tumblr media
Honestly, my favorite thing about Lucky is simply about how his name ties to his appearance in irony. He’s in a full-body cast, and his catchphrase insinuates he constantly hurts himself on accident, making him extremely unlucky. So imagine addressing someone as Lucky as he continuously trips and hurts himself. I love it. Also, I look WAYYY too deep into his lazy personality and take it as him having depression because of his presumably-permanent injuries, and so, when I got him in my village when I was going through a depression spell, it made me super happy. Something about Lucky makes me look way too deep into his character, but I love him because of it! Super good comfort character.
#3: Pietro
Tumblr media
Pietro gets a lot of hate because of his clownish appearance. I’m sure you’ve either seen the comic of someone hitting him with a net over and over to make him move away, or the picture of someone using the megaphone to call him an abomination in-game. But those people are, uh, how do you say it…
COWARDS.
Pietro is a GOOD lad, and I’m happy to see lots of people liking him more with the rise of clowncore. This is another one of the villagers that was in my first town, though he moved in later. I was never afraid of clowns that weren’t purposefully coded as scary, so I ended up really liking him! As a kid I loved extremely colorful characters, so his rainbow theme really made me attached to him, which has lasted until this day!
#2: Goldie
Tumblr media
Goldie is another fairly popular villager who I adore. I didn’t like her that much, though, until Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp. She comes with the ‘natural’ theme, and one of her quotes describes her reading a book that the sun makes people feel happy. She also wants for you to craft a harpsichord. This makes her come across as a helpful, bookish sweetheart. Like, she seems like the kind of girl who would dream of living in a cottage, and she seems like a great gal to have as a friend.
Also, she and Cherry are uhhhhh girlfriends. Thank you and goodnight.
HONORABLE MENTIONS
I have a lot of favorite villagers, but I didn’t want to make this too long, so here are some honorable mentions that only just barely didn’t make the cut.
Muffy:
Tumblr media
Are you KIDDING? A PASTEL GOTH SHEEP?! It’s like they were attempting to design a character to cater specifically for me! I honestly was shocked when she didn’t find her way onto the final top ten. I love her.
Stitches:
Tumblr media
Again, another villager that feels like it was made for me specifically. I love stuffed animals so much, and I specifically have memories of loving a well-worn teddy bear, making me love Stitches instantly.
Chai:
Tumblr media
Remember how I said I loved the Sanrio villagers? And how Cinnamoroll was my favorite Sanrio character? And how I love pastels? Oh, and did I mention that I love tea and tea-themed characters? Yeah.
Okay! With those friends out of the way, it’s time to announce my #1 friend!!
#1: Merengue
Tumblr media
What can I say except ‘I’m predictable?’
I’ve jokingly asked multiple friends to kinassign me an Animal Crossing villager, and almost every time they assigned me Merengue. Which, I mean, understandable. She’s pink, always blushing, and food-themed. Plus, she’s a baker! I’ve, personally, always wanted to learn to cook and bake; I’ve only ever really made cake and brownies. Her hobby is also doodling, meaning she likes to draw, just like me! I love the creative use of the horn to put a strawberry on her, and (I’m probably projecting with this) I like how large she is? I don’t know, I love the fact that the most food-related animal is a big animal like a rhino, and it makes me feel super happy.
Merengue also reminds me of Alcremie, a new Pokemon which I really like, so I guess that the pink and whipped cream-related idea just sort of makes me drawn to something! She’s an extremely large and friendly gal, and she seems like she would make me muffins when I’m sad. 10/10, would actually die for this pink baker rhino.
So, let’s go through each of the BBTAG fights in the 4 o.g. story modes and see which ones are necessary for character stuff. I may not want to use a fight if there is another fight with the same characters I want to interact but doesn’t have a dumb joke assigned to it.
Now I know Tag Team means tag-in-tag-out stuff, but I am just going to look at these fights as two on two fights with a designated opponent for each fighter.
Episode Blazblue
Ragna and Rachel vs Waldstein and Linne: Initial fight so kind of necessary. Linne and Rachel having some banter, maybe Rachel being able to find out about Linne’s curse, meanwhile, you got Wald tossing around Ragna before Ragna goes Grim Reaper on his ass.
Ragna and Gordeau vs Ruby and Blake: 1. I like Ragna and Gordeau’s interaction, 2. Have members of RWBY learn of Gordeau and Ragna’s Soul Stealing Powers and 3. Really you can switch up who fights who, because with Ragna vs Ruby and Gordeau vs Blake you got similar color schemes, but the other way with Ragna vs Blake and Gordeau vs Ruby you got actual Sword vs Sword and Scythe vs Scythe.
Ragna and Chie vs Hakumen and Carmine: Obviously Ragna has to fight Hakumen and Chie against Carmine b/c Hakumen would CRUSH Chie, plus this is where Ragna could earn some point with the I.T. by helping Chie. Of course, since this is post-CS/Pre-CP Ragna he’s a bit more gruff, blunt and not as nice with it, but he’s still helping kind of. Kind of like how Shinjiro was with Minato (yes I use that name STFU), Yukari, and Junpei when they were about to get mugged in P3.
Ragna and Waldstein vs Kanji and Azrael: Like I said, ignoring this one. Dumb joke, no good interactions, and I prefer Ragna and Kanji’s interactions in Episode P4A.
Ragna and Nu-13 vs Aigis and Vatista: As much as I don’t want Ragna to suffer this, this is the only way for him to have any contact with Aigis, the Shadow Operative, so she can report it back to Mitsuru when this is all over.
Ragna and Noel vs Hyde and Linne: This meet up is necessary since this is where they talk about plot stuff, Ragna’s hostility here is understandable considering everyone before his was all like “LET’S FIGHT!” without using any brain cells. While it starts out hostile they do become more amicable over the course of the conversation.
Side note: I do like it when Ragna says Observer, of course either meaning an overseer or the Blazblue term as one who makes things reality by acknowledging them, and Linne sees the term as “Supervisor”. It’s just stuff like that in crossovers that I like, the clashing terminology and stuff.
Ragna and Hazama vs Weiss and Orie: Weiss and Orie becoming aware of Ragna’s bounty, thus allowing some tensions during later meet ups. Although IDK how this will affect Hazama trying to act all friendly with the other worlds when Weiss and Orie saw him all chumy with Ragna, plus if they later see both Ragna and Hazama activating their Blazblues, with the similar activation codes, and they learn that Hazama/Terumi made the Azure Grimoire, with Ragna’s being a prototype in a way. That might not work out for him.
I’m skipping the Es fights since IDK if I’d even add Es in this.
Episode P4A (most of these I feel like should be kept since this is the only fight where almost the entire faction all joins up)
Yu and Yosuke vs Gordeau and Carmine: initial battle, so necessary. Could be someone different, since these itneractions don’t really matter.
Yu and Chie vs Tager and Makoto: Electric vs Electric and fist vs foot, since I’m trying not to flanderize them, Makoto and Chie won’t immediatly be all “KUNG FU *WATCHYA*!” so I’d tone that down a bit considering the situation.
Yu and Yukiko vs Hakumen and Rachel: Like I said before, I’d like to see how Hakumen, and maybe Rachel, reacts to the Wild Card. Since in Arena, Yu’s Wild Card Power of Friendship aura made Elizabeth, aka the one who oneshots Erebus (the manifestation of mankind’s desire for Death) every other month, step back. So imagine how Hakumen, mr. Power of Order/killer of the Black Beast would react to that.
Yu and Chie vs Jubei and Platinum: Kind of wish Kanji was here since this is his intro in the episode, that and Platinum needs to get smacked, but making it a girl on girl fight is fine I guess. Then you have maybe Jubei’s reaction to the Wild Card and Yu’s truth powers (I wonder if the Orb of Sight could reveal Terumi’s true form like Jubei’s Sekigan?)
.....wait is Kanji just not playable b/c he was DLC at the time, okay then screw that noise.
Yu and Yosuke vs Linne and Orie: Okay Naoto has no excuse for not fighting here like Kanji excpet for maybe beign DLC at the time, so Yu and Naoto vs Linne and Orie. Come on seeing Orie’s Thanatos clash with a Persona would be cool. Or at the very least the Persona characters assuming she has a Persona, it wouldn’t be a stretch for them.
Yu and Ragna vs Weiss and Ruby: Should I keep this in? Since it is a moment where people call Ruby and Weiss idiots for blindly trusting System inspite of being the one who summoned them. Plus a lot fo stupid lines from Ruby. The ony thing this does is give Ragna a chance to prove himself to the I.T.
Ignoring Es fights like I said but I do want to keep the offscreen fight of Ragna and Kanii vs Hakumen and Rachel (Kanji’s lighting resistance against Rachel, HA!). Also they were playing Naoto’s theme from the Arena games at the time, so that was kind of off for me.
Episode Under Night In-Birth (half of these is just Hyde’s “Must Save The Girl” tendencies coming in)
Hyde and Waldstein vs Rachel and Naoto: No good interactiosn outside fo seeing how Hde and Wald fight as a team, like maybe Wald pulling a fastball special with Hyde.
Hyde and Ruby vs Yosuke and Chie: Stupid reason to start with Hyde thinking they were bullying Ruby when it was a mistake, and well all know that even if Ruby is like a year or two younger tha Hyde she’d kick his ass. But I know people want to have Ruby be amazed at the Insulator, but I won’t have her be all “YOU HAVE COOL WEAPONS! LET’S FIGHT!” Like I wanted RUby to have more of a personality, but this is too much.
Kind of a side note, but when Ruby brought up weapons with Jaune in Volume 1, she wasn’t all in his face about it immediately, they were apparently talking for a while before bring it up naturaly in a conversation. It felt more....real, to me.
Hyde and Gordeau vs Makoto and Blake: Only here for the Makoto and Blake interactions.
Hyde and Weiss vs Azrael and Carmine: no one here should be fighting with, against, or near Azrael. This is just here for Hyde to play knight in shining armor to Weiss. You Hyde/Ruby shippers might want this so he can earn points with Ruby for protecting her BFF.
Hyde and Yukiko vs Platinum and Noel. More bad cooking jokes, that all of a sudden make Yukiko good, but I think that’s just to make Noel the focus of the joke since this is BLAZBLUE Cross Tag Battle. More Hyde saving the girl in a way, but I’m slightly more for it since Platinum suffers. And hey, System said the losing TEAM had to eat it, so maybe Noel eating her own food can result in her getting better.
I mean seriously, Yukiko apparently got better at the end of her Social Link in Persona 4 (If I recall) and I THINK that there was one line about Fuuka improving in Arena or something (someone please help me on that, I know she gets better in P3P as part of her SL there, but I really don’t think one should cook, even if they like it, if they suck at it), taking that away from them is kind of insulting.
Hyde and Yu vs Jubei and Jin: Insulator vs Musashi (the swords that cut through anything) and Power of Friendship vs Power of Order. I got asked a while ago on what would happen if Isnulator and Musashi clashed and this would be a good chance to explore that. Plus Jubei seeing both the Wild Card and the Insulator would be interesting.
Also, Jubei with Jin goes with Blazblue canon, as at this point (between Cs and CP) Jubei is training Jin on the Power of Order).
Ignoring Es fight
Episode RWBY (this’ll be hard b/c I am TRYING to tone back the anime bullshit with RWBY)
Ruby and Weiss vs Noel and Makoto: System didn’t intervene here and they were just like “We have to fight over the Keystone”, considering RWBY’s themes of unity and such you’d think they’d try and be amicable, before System jumps in. Weiss could even TRY and be civil with the apparent Faunus in front fo them dressed rdiduclously (seriously IDK who else in RWBY during Vol 1-3 wears shit like Makoto who, as Kokonoe said in one of the HMPK segements “Is a strong breeze or a cough away from a major wardrobe malfunction”).
But still Weiss and Makoto on the front with Ruby and Noel as long range support wiht their guns.
I do think Weiss saying they should split up is dumb though.
Ruby and Hazama vs Hyde and Carmine: Alowing Hazama to get some connection with Ruby so he has someone to vouch for him at Beacon when/if he tries something there.
Ruby and Rachel vs Vatista and Platinum: Rachel landed on Ruby, gave her snark, because Platinum and Vatista were trying to ask her questions about the situation, Ruby is TRYING to be cool-headed and ask questions, but Rachel is being a butt and forms a tag team with Ruby just to shut Vatista and Platinum up. This could be used as a way to make Rachel seem untrustworthy.
side note, Vatista asks if she “should switch to a beefy, macho, muchle-type body...” So....can Vatista shapeshift? I mean we know she had an older looking form before she gave up one of her wings to give the Insulator to Kuon in UNI’s backstory. SO does that mean she doesn’t have to be a loli and maybe this form is just o conserve energy or something?
Ruby and Waldstein vs Hakumen and Tager: Hakumen attacks Ruby and Tager tries to intervene, Hakumen says smething interesting “This world may be jeopardized if elements from conflicting worlds interact” in this case Ruby and the keysone.
And like....seithr, ars magus, personas, EXS, and Dust and aura coliding WON’T cause things to fuck up? Especially Hakumen, who has kind of a messed up existence at the moment.
and whe Ruby brings up what Rachel told her, Hakumen gets all on the offense, once again maing Rachel seem untrustworthy. Or at the very least not willing to be cooperative.
Hakumen begins to do his thing but Wald pulls a Hyde and comes in to scold them for attacking a little girl.
I would like to see Hakumen sense the Silver Eye power lying dormant in Ruby, and then lay down some cryptic words here though.
Like comparing the Silver Eyes to the Power of Order is interesting b/c the SIlver Eyes work with love and protection, unlike the Power of Order which is mostly used as a weapon.
Ruby and Weiss vs Gordeau and Orie: scythe and scythe vs rapier and rapier.
1, Orie blowing her cover by saying she is with Licht Kreis, although given the circumstances I doubt that matters. Also she kind of fights on Hyde’s behalf for Ruby getting Hyde’s keystone, and speaking up when she heard his name.
2, Weiss being all too eagar to fight, IDK if this would be in character for canon Weiss.
3. Orie mentioned a restriction. Didn’t System just say there was a punishment? Is it both?
4. Once again Weiss being all too eager to mock and fight. But maybe she is in a bad mood because she has also been having to deal with neandertha;s who don’t care about the situation and are just like “FUCK YEAH, FIGHTING!”
5. Now I may not be too up to date on UNI’s Chornicle Mode, but I don’t know if Orie being THIS against working with Amneisa would be what she would be like.
6. Gordeau is being amicable, but him saying “hate the monk, not his robes”, makes it sound like he is still a member of Amnesia. But if I recall, he quit. Does him working for them as a mercenary count?
7. Orie saying she is devoted to her mission with her ego being secondary should be kept in mind when characters want to be major assholes and make demands of people instead of being nice.
Okay I’m done with that
Ruby and Es vs Yosuke and Yukiko: with that stupid Ninja and Geisha comment, plus I already said I was ignoring Es.....yeah I’m going to skip this and the next one, even though by that logic Ragna won’t meet Ruby. I can fidn some way for this to work, sionce Ragna saving Ruby gets him points with Yang and the RWBY characters.
Alright that seems to be all. Blake got a few fights in but no Yang. What fight would you guys want to see her in that I could add onto here?
The Incomplete History of Secret Organizations - How to Crack the Code
Now that Season Three of A Series of Unfortunate Events has aired, I feel it’s about time to finally tell y’all the Code from The Incomplete History of Secret Organizations- for those of you who can’t get the book, haven’t read it yet, can’t figure out the code, or who just don’t wanna spend time finding it out yourselves.
On page 188 of The Incomplete History of Secret Organizations, the key to cracking a code sprinkled throughout the book is provided:
Tumblr media
WARNING → THERE IS A SECRET MESSAGE IN THIS BOOK
You may have noticed a cross-referencing technique that appears throughout these pages, looking as such: (See: Notorious Researchers, pg. 30). This device is a helpful way to direct readers to relevant information that can be found elsewhere in a text.
It is also a handy way to send a secret message.
Every librarian knows that books contain secrets, and hiding a secret message in the pages of a book is a frequent VFD tactic. Volunteers who cleverly cross-reference will discover the message, while their enemies, who rarely finish a book, remain unaware.
If you have read this far, you may be wondering how to discover this message yourself. First read the book carefully, making note of any parentheticals shaded an unusual hue. This is no printer error; it is a key informing you that part of the message can be found on the suggested page. Follow the references and locate the letters colored a corresponding hue. These letters are scrambled, not unlike an anagram. Once you have unscrambled the word, write it on the color-coded line of this telegram. Completing the telegram will reveal the answer to a question that has stumped philosophers, police inspectors, and even Lemony Snicket:
What comes after the end of The End?
Next to this description is a photo of a telegram, which is fourteen words long:
___ ____ __ _______
____ ___ __ _____
____ ____ _____
__ _____ _____
And, indeed, each word is underlined in a different color.
Now... onto cracking the code.
As referenced, there are occasional cross-references in the text. And sometimes, the See: is in the color you need to look for.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you follow each See to its corresponding page, you’ll find letters scattered across the text that are in the color you need to find. These letters make up each word.
Word-by-word, let’s see what we can find:
The first word, in dark purple, is on page 133: The Reptile Room. To be honest, this is the hardest word to find: the dark color is very close to the color of the actual text. There are three letters here, in the following sentences:
You always want to do something new, but at the same time, I wanted to see if there were clues I could integrate into the design.
This flips it so the priority is the reptiles, and his own living space is sort of diminutive.
And in “The Reptile Room,” [Monty]’s delighted to share his world with these kids.
otw
The second word is on page 99: Toupees for Toddles, in an orange-ish color. There are four letters, which can be found in the following sentences:
“Well, we can’t put a wig on a baby.”
It’s one of the oddest things I’ve ever done in my career, applying a little wig on a baby.
When we started the second season, Presley had grown her hair long enough that we could actually create the ponytail with here own hair, which was a relief.
ests
The third word, in a hot pink, is on page 130: Mr Poe’s Office. There are only two letters, which can be found in the following sentences:
It can be goofy, but it’s never goofy-stupid.
He’s the guy that’s literally standing between Olaf and the Baudelaire fortune.
of
The fourth word, on page 110: How to Dress for a Masked Ball, in a gray-blue color, can be found in the following sentences, with seven letters:
The flashback that opens “The Carnivorous Carnival” is set at a Venetian-style masked ball, where masks conceal a number of familiar faces. Cynthia Summers designed each mask with the character in mind, including Dr Orwell’s “eyeglasses,” a Medusa-inspired snake mask for Uncle Monty, and theatrical comedy/tragedy masks for the Snicket Brothers. (Jacques wears the comedy mask, while Lemony, of course, is tragedy.) The ball also marks the first on-screen appearance of the mysterious Beatrice, described in the script as “a beautiful woman dressed as a dragonfly.”
eidnrsf
The fifth word, four letters long, is on page 45: Olivia Caliban/Madame Lulu, is in gray:
A dangling thread from Season One was a certain book on secret organizations discovered by Justice Strauss - a book whose title will be familiar to anyone reading this.
Still, they liked the idea of a character finding The Incomplete History of Secret Organizations and having the book change your life, as it will no doubt change yours.
While the book’s version of Olivia is a veteran agent of dubious morality, the show reinvents her as a noble school librarian struggling against institutional corruption.
There, disguised as Madame Lulu, she fulfills her mission of passing the book to the Baudelaires - and sacrifices herself at the lion pit to save their lives.
jtsu
The sixth word, colored light orange, is on page 109: How to Dress for a Career in Food Service. The three letters can be found here:
Author Daniel Handler explains that the VFD agents we meed in the show are the types of people whom children notice by adults overlook.
You’re going to notice things that are invisible to the adults talking over your head.
Take a good look at the restaurant’s terrifying logo.
uto
On page 141: The Miserable Mill is the seventh word, in two red letters:
“The Wide Window” left us with no more stage space, so it forced us to shoot the mill at a real location, an old dock building which we then tried to make look like a stage.
Klaus comes back from the eye doctor, but he isn’t quite himself.
fo
The eighth word is on page 97: The Real Sugar Bowl. There are five light purple letters:
According to Esme, it was stolen from her by Beatrice, and according to Olivia, it may have been the reason for the VFD schism. It’s not the first sugar bowl to play a vital role in a work of classic literature (interested parties may seek out We Have Always Lived in The Castle at their local library), but Daniel Handler muses on another possible inspiration: “There a whole sugar scene in the movie Midnight (See: Snicket, Jacques, pg 44) that must have seeped into me when I was a child. Somehow I think that was one of the sugar bowls of literature that ended up sneaking in.”
The existence of four identical sugar bowl [props] may be of interest to Esme Squalor, or at least her actress, Lucy Punch, who requested to keep one when the series wrapped. “My character was so desperate for it,” says Punch. “It seemed appropriate.”
eahrc
The ninth word, in blue, is on page 172: The Carnivorous Carnival. There are four letters:
There’s literally no program you can watch that’s any wierce.
The aesthetic of carnivals and circuses is naturally creepy and absurd to begin with. And then you add the overlay of our material, where everything is filtered  through the Baudelaires, so the sets are designed to be seen as if you’re a vulnerable child glimpsing this horrible world and trying to maintain hope.
Count Olaf arrives at Caligari Carnival, where he hopes the fortune-teller can help him.
wlli
The tenth word is on page 89: The Many Faces of Barry Sonnenfeld. There are four green letters:
and in “The Vile Village,” he’s the fire chief posing with his Dalmatian int he firehouse-turned-saloon.
A common ancestor to our series’ interconnected families?
Barry birthday is April Fool’s Day, and for his birthday, I decided to knock off a painting with him in it.
We’re shooting the Hotel Denouement right now, and the whole hotel isi based on the Dewey Decimal System, and each floor is a different subject.
eetm
On page 64-65: The Sinister Songs, you can find five magenta letters for the eleventh word:
“I was a huge fan of the books in my twenties, and I  was also a huge fan of Barry Sonnenfeld, so to see those two come together and actually be a part of it was unreal.”
Count Olaf introduces himself to the Baudelaires with this song and dance - ignoring the fact he’s already met them. Handlers says, “Singing is perfect for Count Olaf because he imagines himself so wonderful.”
All of the dance numbers were choreographed by Paul Becker, who pulled double duty in the first half of “The Carnivorous Carnival”.
She’s had quite an exciting / Time on the road
agina
On page 24: Violet the Inventor, there are two gray letters for the twelfth word:
But now those inventions, like the Baudelaire mansion itself, are gone.
She promised her parents she would always look after them, and while Count Olaf’s schemes have put that promise to the test, Violet’s managed to stand strong in even the most unfortunate situation.
on
Pages 116-117: Deciphering Code: Using the Dials of the Spyglass, has five purple letters for the thirteenth word:
As a volunteer, you already know why and when the spyglass was created (See: Motion Picture, Pg 10) but we will briefly recap its history here.
A permanent mark has its advantages, since even the most absent-minded member rarely leave the house without their ankle (See: Peg Leg, pg 86), but it has its drawbacks too, particularly if the organization undergoes a schism, so that the same symbol that once stood for comradery and literacy suddenly represents treachery and pyromania now that it is inscribed on the ankles of your enemies.
But just as a movie might be more than a movie, a spyglass can be more than a spyglass.
Critics called these films terrible, which was the point: Sebald wanted to ensure that no one would want to see them besides other volunteers, who would be more interested in their secret messages than their artistic value.
The cinema’s projectionist assigns the film a production code made up of a unique combination of numbers and symbols.
riynb
The fourteenth and final word can be found on page 32: Who is Lemony Snicket? There are five pale green letters:
He is currently investigating the lives of the Baudelaire orphans,  though his reason for doing so is unknown, as are his whereabouts.
Mr. Snicket can be identified by his dry wit, his tailored suits, and his ankle tattoo, as well as his tendency to launch into wordy monologues containing Very Frequent Definitions.
But when developing the series for Netflix, Barry Sonnenfeld and Daniel Handler independently felt that their Snicket should be seen as well as heard.
And they both independently thought of Patrick Warburton, a frequent Sonnenfeld collaborator whom Handler had loved in a little-seen film called The Woman Chaser. Volunteers who track it down will note that it features Warburton speaking to the camera in a suit and a deadpan style that one might call Serlinig-esque - or Snicket-esque.
haebc
The Code
So now we have all the words:
otw ests of eidnrsf
jtsu uto fo eahrc
wlli eemt agina
on riynb haebc
Which do not take a long time to unscramble...
What comes after the end of The End?
Well, it turns out... the code is a couplet...
Two sets of friends, just out of reach
Will meet again on Briny Beach.
CGWorld: Metal Gear Survive interview
The following is a translation of an interview with Konami developers Mineshi Kimura and Noriaki Yamamoto that was published by the Japanese website CG World Entry on February 21, 2018. While this article mainly serves as a promotional piece for Metal Gear Survive, it actually covers quite bit of Metal Gear Solid V too and even briefly touches upon on Mr. Yamamoto’s work as a pixel artist for the Castlevania games released on the Nintendo DS. This was actually the fourth in a series of articles published by CG World aimed at CGI artists hoping to join the video game industry, with previous entries focusing other games and companies such as Dark Souls III by FromSoftware and Monster Hunter World by Capcom. I might translate those too in the future.
The original Japanese article can be read at the following page:
https://entry.cgworld.jp/column/post/201802-c-konami.html
Profiles
Tumblr media
Mineshi Kimura - Project Manager. Joined Konami in 1997 after graduating in graphic designs from the Tama University. He has been involved in the mecha and graphic production of the Metal Gear franchise from the original Metal Gear Solid (1998) up to Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain (2015). He served as project manager in Metal Gear Survive (2018).
Tumblr media
Noriaki Yamamoto - Graduated from the Department of Mechanical Engineering in the Tokyo University of Science in 1997. Joined the Konami School in 1999. He was involved with the Castlevania series, creating pixel art for characters, weapons and icons, up until Castlevania: Order of Ecclessia (2008). He was involved in the modelling and designing of weapons and mecha in titles such as Neo Contra (2004), Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes (2014), Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain (2015) and Metal Gear Survive (2018).
Tumblr media
Konami Digital Entertainment - The digital entertainment subsidiary of Konami Holdings (itself, originally established in 1973 as Konami Industry) which branched off in 2006. They are involved in the planning, production, manufacturing and sales of console games, mobile games and card games. Currently headquartered in Minato, Tokyo.
Tumblr media
Metal Gear Survive - The latest installment of the Metal Gear series, released on February 21, 2018. A spinoff of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain (2015) that reconstructs it as a survival game while retaining its high sense of action. We’ll be covering the designs and modelling of the mechas and weapons that appear in the game during the latter half of this article.
Determining the Designs and Coloring of a Character
First of all, can you please tell us about your career up to this point and your current employment
Kimura: I’ve learned graphic design from the Tama Art University and then I’ve joined Konami in 1997. Since then I’ve been involved with the making of the mechs and scenery for the Metal Gear series. From Metal Gear Survive and onward I’ve been mostly in charge of project management, leaving the creative process to other people, starting with Yamamoto. My job is to support everyone else on their work.
Yamamoto: After studying mechanical engineering at the Tokyo University of Science, I studied 3D CGI and game development at the Konami School, joining the company in 1999. I was in charge of drawing pixel art for the characters, weapons and icons in the Castlevania series until 2008 and I was also in charge of designing and modelling the mecha in Neo Contra, which was released in 2004. I’ve been in charged of modelling and designing the weapons and mecha of the Metal Gear series after being assigned to the Metal Gear Solid V project. There are also many setups that I use myself. The tools that I use include Maya, SoftImage, ZBrush, Substance Painter and Photoshop.
Kimura: Since Yamamoto’s specialty is mecha, I think the content of what we will be talking will fall out of the scope of this article series. Nevertheless, Yamamoto was in charge of the modelling of Metal Gear Sahelanthropus, the leading mecha of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. He started with the idea of wanting to transform it. Therefore, we have many stories that could be helpful to those who want to create a robot.
We’ll look forward to it. It’s pretty unusual for an artist to had majored in mechanical engineering, but it seems to be advantageous when it comes to designing mechas. But before you tell us about Sahelanthropus, can you talk about your involvement with the Castlevania series? We would like to cover your work, from the past to the present, in chronological order.
Yamamoto: I did the pixel art for characters, weapons and icons featured in Dawn of Sorrow (2005), Portrait of Ruin (2006) and Order of Ecclesia (2008). In this case, we would designed the characters in pixel art first and then we would ask the illustrators to draw detailed designs and artwork for the characters.
You mean the pixel art was done before the official art?
Yamamoto: That’s right. Since these are video game characters, we prioritize their visibility while moving on-screen when it comes to deciding their designs and color schemes. We actually implemented the pixel art in the actual game, refining it to perfection while checking out its visibility while moving.
Tumblr media
Pixel art for various Castlevania protagonists. From left to right: Soma Cruz from Dawn of Sorrow, Jonathan Morris and Charlotte Aulin from Portrait of Ruin, and Shanoa from Order of Ecclesia. Each character has a design and a color scheme that helped emphasize its visibility on-screen. In the case of Soma for example, white was chosen due to how it’s easy to view on the dark LCD screen used by the portable game machines at the time. Jonathan and Charlotte appear and fight on-screen as a pair, so they were color-coded to make them distinguishable.
Tumblr media
Official art of the same characters from the 2010 gameCastlevania: Harmony of Despair. The official art was based on the existing pixel art.
Designing Mecha Like It’s A Toy
Can you tell us the circumstances that led you to propose a transformation gimmick to Sahelanthropus?
Yamamoto: I was assigned to the Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance (2013) project during the middle of its development. Because of that I wasn’t assigned on any of the large mechas, but I was devising mechanisms for even the smallest things with the aim of high quality. After that I was assigned to the Metal Gear Solid V project and was put in charge of modelling the Sahelanthropus, and I think that’s when the opporunity presented itself.
So the evaluation of your previous work had a great impact on your next one.
Yamamoto: Not only that, but it also helped in clarifying what I like to work on everyday. If you keep going on and on, you will eventually find work that you will want to do. I think everyone likes to leave the most important work to someone who likes it and knows it well.
Kimura: Yamamoto’s specialty is plastic models. He’s always building one. Moreover, since he majored in mechanical engineering in college, his love for mecha and engineering oozes in his work.
Yamamoto: I’ve been building models since childhood and I like transforming mecha, so I often thought about their gimmicks. When I started drawing in 3D CGI, I started making such gimmicks myself and began appreciating mecha even more. I was pretty glad when they put me in charge of Sahelanthropus. Because it was the most prominent mecha, I did my best without holding back.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
The 3DCGI model of the Sahelanthropus. Initially it only had the upright bipedal form on the left, but the ability to transform into the Rex-like form on the right was added thanks to Yamamoto’s proposal.
Yamamoto: Ever since I first saw the design of Sahelanthropus, I wanted it to transform into a shape similar to Metal Gear Rex (the mecha from the original Metal Gear Solid). I have a personal passion for Rex and I’m sure many fans of the series feel the same way. While Sahelanthropus was almost unchanged from its original design, we thought of adding a gimmick that allowed it to transform into Rex forum and experimented with a rough a 3D model. The transformation gimmick was well-received, so we were able to adopt it without any issue.
That specifcation change must have had a significant effect on the game.
Yamamoto: We were able to get such proposal accepted since we were involved with the Metal Gear Solid V project from the very beginning. When it gets to the stage of having to come up with the details, we designed it under the assumption that it will be turned into a toy such as a figure or a plastic model, so we make sure that the individual parts will operate without interfering with each other. As a result, the transformation can now occur within the game without the individual 3DCG parts having to overlap with each other. My experience with plastic models helped me in this regard. Because the gimmick with knee is quite complex, I thought it would’ve been impossible to reproduce without metal parts, so I was surprised when the official toy ended up using actual metal parts.
Kimura: I think it’s a great benefit to have the intuition of knowing how to adapt it into a toy. Moreover, I think it’s wonderful that we could add our own original ideas such as wanting a transformation gimmick and not just do what we’re told to do.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The transformation process of Sahelanthropus. “I thought a transformation might be possible if you can somehow manage with the dexterity of its upright form, but I what I actually struggled with was the transformation of its feet.” says Yamamoto. “The actual Metal Gear Rex has so-called ‘reverse joints’ for its feet and I was asked to reproduce in Sahelanthropus’ second form. But if we reproduce it too closely, we cannot used the same rig as its standard form, so we solved this issue by making the knees double-jointed.” Kimura added “Using the same rig consistently will make it easier for the animator to work with. When making a character during game development in this matter, it is necessary to consider points such as whether the thing will collapse if another rig is added or if there will be any issue if more animation is added.”
Making Things Without The Knowledge
Can you tell us about other things that Mr. Yamamoto was assigned to while working on Metal Gear Solid V?
Kimura: From Metal Gear Solid V and onward, we’ve been designing all the mechas that appear in the game. Yamamoto in particular was in charge of designinf the tanks and jets, as well as modelling the Walker Gears. Although the Walker Gears are an original design, we aimed for a sense of a realism that wouldn’t make them stand out too much from real weapons, so we came up with a design that matches the historical background of the 1970′s and 1980′s by researching weapons used by actual military during that period. We followed that same process when designing the wardrobe and props used by characters. If someone without the knowledge ended up coming up with the designs, they might look cool at a glance, but they’ll lack sense of realism, so it’s not a job you could just give to anyone.
Yamamoto: Since weapons are industrial product, each part has its significance and its purpose. It’s essential for the manufacturing to have good productivity. You design while thinking whether this part will be designed by pressing, welding or minting. Good maintainability, such as whether they can be easily removed with bolts, is also important.
It seems that the setting verification and investigation during the prior stage takes a lot more work than the actual designing and modelling.
Yamamoto: The work itself is not all that time consuming. Given that we model each part one by one, research how the paint scrapes off and how it gets dirtied, and then try to reproduce that, that’s what actually takes our time. (laughs)
How long does it take to build just one mecha?
Yamamoto: It depends on the model. Some will take around two weeks, while others will take more than a month. If there are elements that affect the gameplay, then further validation and adjustments might be required. For example, if someone order us to have a vehicle that shoots long-range missiles, then a 3D model will be implemented in-game, actually move it, verify it, and make any necessary adjustments.’’
Tumblr media
Many of the vehicles shown here were designed by Mr. Yamamoto.
A fighter jet that Yamamoto was in charge of designing. “One of the methods of designing an aircraft is called the ‘area rule’.” says Mr. Yamamoto. “It states that shortening the cross-sectional area reduces air resistance. Many real-life fighter jets are designed based on this rule. By applying the same rule to the fighter jets we design for the game, our sense of realism is improved.” The jet’s design follows the area rule such as the main wings having a small fuselage in order to enlarge the cross-sectional area or shifting the position of the vertical and horizontal tails. Such attention to detail reinforces the sense of realism in the game.
Working With Partner Companies
What kind of work did you do in Metal Gear Survive?
Yamamoto: In addition to designing and modelling the weapons and mecha, several 3D models were also outsourced to partner companies. In past, when we outsourced some models for another project, parts of my instructions were unclear and the resulting 3D model was very different from what I’ve conceived in my mind. Based on that reflection, this time we started by making a rough 3D model, implemented into the game, and verify if it doesn’t feel out of place even while moving. After that, we create a design sketch and sent it to our partner company along with the previously-created 3D model.
Concept drawings of the JET Hammer designed by Yamamoto. “We render the outline only as a rough 3D model and then we draw over it using Photoshop” says Yamamoto. “I was conscious of how mechanism would actually work and the realism in the composition of parts. I think we came up with a unique item thanks to that.”
Tumblr media
A CGI model of the JET Hammer developed by an external company based on the prior image.
Kimura: Our work is practically done when creating the design drawing. (bitter smile) I think Yamamoto’s responsibilities were pretty large, since the instructions I gave him were quite detailed. But it was because of that we’ve been able to come up with 3D models with a higher degree of perfection than ever before. Some of them were approved the first time, which was quite surprising. Prior to that, we usually redid the models at least twice.
Yamamoto: I believe our partners were able to concentrate on improving the quality thanks to the fact that they were not lost when it came to the shapes, sizes and structures. It might seem done at that point, but there’s actually a lot more work to be done afterward such as making the vertices of the polygons suitable for the game, creating various textures and adjusting the shaders.
Does the number of polygons change from the rough shape?
Yamamoto: It depends on the game’s specifications. Sometimes the number of polygons remains almost the same, but sometimes the number might increase or reduce greatly.
Concept art of the wormhole transporter constructed by Yamamoto. “I’ve ordered a design from somebody else, but it wouldn’t hold up together completely, so I’ve decided to redid the design myself” says Yamamoto. “The final design matches the game’s specifications, such as attaching an energy unit that shows its working status or having pole-shaped lights that can be seen from a distance.”
Tumblr media
Kimura: While implementing a 3D model into the game, Yamamoto can talk to the directors and planners of game to find out whether it’s fun or not for the game, or whether they have a good feeling or not. I think that’s his strength.
Yamamoto: There are many things that must be said such as “I made this kind of gimmick, so this is how I want it to be used in the game”, “I want you to add this kind of sound” or “I made this kind of weapon, so I want it to be used properly.” Just passing data around will not get you everything, so we verify things after we implement it and try to explain it afterward.
All Actions Will Change When You’re Aware of The Users
Finally, can you tell us about your future aspirations?
Yamamoto: It might be fun if I could be focus entirely on creating 3D models all the time, I can’t actually say that. In the future, I feel it might be necessary to take on a management role and bearing the burden in allowing the younger employees to nurture. You need good developers and a good team in order to make a good game. With that in mind, I’ve been mentoring rookie modellers lately.
In what order would you teach them things?
Yamamoto: First I would teach them how to use the basic tools and how we do things in our company. We cannot proceed if the basic tools are not suitable enough. There are many other things that must be taught, but the most difficulty thing that newcomers must learn is to understand a game’s specification. When it comes to game development, a modeller’s goal isn’t just to model things, but to create a game. You need to create a 3D model while considering how it will make a game fun and whether it will work without failure. If you can understand the setup, the animation and even the players themselves, everything can be changed such as how to deal with things, how you will schedule things and how you create data.
Project 1: Letterforms Project - Mr & Mrs Eaves
For our first project in Web Design, we were assigned to create a one-page website highlighting a distinct letterform from a specific typeface. In order to narrow our choices down, we were first tasked with finding six different typefaces that had a letterform we were drawn to.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
From these 6, I initially chose Mr Eaves Sans and its Q. However, knowing the history of Mr Eaves Sans with Mrs Eaves, a typeface pinoeered by the same type designer years before, I decided to highlight them both by comparing and contrasting them. Knowing how similar the two typefaces are and how their matching names lend to that marriage, I decided I would write my own “typeface love story” about the Eaves family.
With this principle jumping off point, I decided to make a mood board. Inspired by the warm colors associated with Valentines Day and classic “love” stereotypes (reds, pinks, creams, etc), I found source imagery to spark inspiration. As it turns out, others before have used reds to create type specimens, etc about Mrs Eaves in the past, so I knew my color scheme would conveniently play off of this common aesthetic.
Tumblr media
With a concept and color scheme in mind, I began sketching. For this project, not only did we have to code and design a webpage, but we had to incorporate a visual analysis or comparison to analyze the letterform(s) we chose. Below are sketches where I brainstorm for both requirements.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
**The blue notes on the sketches are my notes from peer critiques where my classmates helped me discern which elements of each analysis/webpage were the strongest and most effective.
Tumblr media
After working through my sketches, we were tasked with making a static digital mock-up of the webpage using XD. While I was very much set on the two column structure at this point (I wanted to elumate a book to give the page a narrative feel), I played with color, minute details, page organization, etc.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The last three larger XD layouts are the layouts I liked the most in relation my letter comparison. I overlaid both Qs on top of each other on the base page to show each letterforms’ familial similarities and distinct differences. However, as you clicked the “Mr” and “Mrs” buttons above, each Q is given its own time to shine apart from their “partner.”
From there on, I started coding. As I simultaneously tried to make my webpage look like my XD layout, I also made a color block wireframe to help visually organize all the elements on my page. This layout helps me as a coder know how to “div” out my information so I can properly apply CSS language, etc. I actually ended up using HTML and CSS to code this to be compatible on a web browser. You can see that live here!
Tumblr media
After lots of hours of hard work, my webpage finally came together! While I made some changes (both visually and interactionally (a.k.a. cool animations!)) as I went to make the layout more unified, my final webpage very much emulates what I envisioned from my inspiration and brainstorming at the start. See it in its final version here!
tagged by @shadows-in-the-light-of-day. i don’t usually do these but, why not?
Rules: Name ten favorite characters from ten different things (books, tv, film, etc.) then tag ten people.
In no particular order!!
1. Allen Avadonia (Evillious Chronicles)
Tumblr media
To the surprise of absolutely no one, I love Allen so much. He was a huge comfort for me in high school and still is to this day. I don’t know what to say about him that I haven’t said a million times before. He’s snarky but has good intentions, he loves his family despite how chaotic and hard everything gets, and he just wants what’s best for everyone. The self-sacrificing nature is also a bit close to home for me. Maybe not to the point of dying but definitely to the point of my own deteriorating wellbeing... whoops.
2. Rouge (Witch’s Heart)
Tumblr media
First of all, Aesthetic. Second of all, I love her personality so fucking much and her role in the story. I’m gonna stay vague for the sake of not spoiling but she really is the most interesting demon to me despite having the least screentime. She’s got layers to her personality if you dig deep and I can’t wait to see what else IZ will do with her.
3. Ryuunosuke Akutagawa (Bungo Stray Dogs)
Tumblr media
What’s this?! A character that’s not a blond snarky babie? I know, I’m shocked too! Akutagawa is a ruthless mafioso who needs to take a goddamned chill pill... and also an abused young adult whose mental heatlh needs some serious help and care. He’s not 100% evil either (though, yes, yes, murder is wrong, I know, but this is a series where they try to make the Best Character a morally gray ex-mafioso who is the one who abused Akutagawa. So I Mean.) and I hope he gets some good character development in season 4 (or past season 3 of the manga, I’m not caught up on it sorry ^^; )
also he’s voiced by Kensho Ono and I Stan A Legend
4. Tenn Kujou (IDOLiSH7)
Tumblr media
aaaand we’re back to the snarky blonds (well, he’s more albino, I guess?). Tenn falls under that umbrella of “My Type”s known as Family Matters -- he loves and cares for Riku so much, he’s just... terrible at showing it due to his personality and how Kujou-papa raised him. His sense of humor is right up my alley as well, and his singing is angelic (cough cough). I will admit I’m not caught up on IDOLiSH7′s story so I don’t know if he’s doing better or worse with regards to how he’s treating Riku but I hope it’s better. I want it to be better. They’re such good bros c’mon just tell Kujou-papa to piss off you can do it
5. Yuuri/Joeri (Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V)
Tumblr media
My Bastard Baby Boy. Sakurabrows. Cabbage Kid. No joke I only got interested in him because some of my best friends assigned him to me in a group chat and I was just like “ok sure I like his color scheme” and had no clue he was going to be a shithead gremlin villain. He’s my favorite Yu-Gi-Oh! character ever. Whoops. I predicted a lot about his character development and personality when I got into the series (intentionally or not, he’s ADHD coded, his backstory is what I expected, and “Yuugou-kun” as a nickname he gives Yuugo became canon on my goddamned birthday). He’s not a perfect character - being gaycoded and without a proper redemption arc is disappointing - but he’s dear to my heart due to how relatable and funny he is. also i built a predaplants deck IRL and i actually hate the aesthetic of predaplants a lot but I learned the deck just because of my best fuckin boi. fight me.
6. Shuuya Kano (Kagerou Project/Mekakucity Actors)
Tumblr media
what can i say i have a Type Okay but real talk Kano just makes me Sad. He’s so much smarter than anyone ever catches on to, his backstory is just heartwrenching, and he does his best to make people happy even when he’s miserable. Holy shit what is it with light-haired boys in Japanese fiction hitting all my weakpoints. His character song is also a bop and his voice actor is super great as well.
7. Nico Yazawa (Love Live! School Idol Project)
Tumblr media
Nico Nico Nii~! Honestly she was like, bottom tier for me at first, but then she grew on me somehow. I don’t even know how. She’s super cute and her voice actor is super talented, even if her squeakiness can be a little grating to some people. Honestly there’s not much else to say. She’s just... Adorable.
8. Xion (Kingdom Hearts)
Tumblr media
hello first female crush when i was like 12! Identity crisis, wanting what’s best for others while struggling to figure out what she wants, etc? Sign Me The Hell Up, Literally Just Target My Middle School Angsty Ass, Why Don’t You. Kingdom Hearts III might not have handled her perfectly but I’m glad she wasn’t completely forgotten about period.
9. Mae (Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia)
Tumblr media
Kliff fits my type that I’ve put on this list a bunch, but that’s enough blond snarky bois! Now for a pink spunky girl! Mae was easily the highlight of Celica’s path in Echoes, her sense of humor and bright attitude despite the odds was just, a spot of sunlight. Honestly, lots of characters in Fire Emblem are great, but Cherami Leigh’s delivery just sends her up to the top for me, alongside Celica, Leon, Kliff, Boey, Mathilda, like the entirety of Fire Emblem Awakening............. yeah.
10. v flower (VOCALOID)
Tumblr media
does vocaloid count? i’m gonna say it counts. v flower is an aesthetic and their voice is super great, they get lots of good original songs by Kairiki Bear and GHOST and probably others i haven’t heard of!! v flower’s aesthetic is also A+++ and they’re fun to doodle. i love them. alongside Nekomura Iroha and VY2, they’re among my favorite vocaloids to listen to without giving preference to a certain producer or tuner.
tagging: anyone! i don’t care. i did this for fun i don’t usually do tag games
My Ultimate AP Calculus Guide (both AB and BC)
Tumblr media
I've taken AP Calculus AB and BC during my high school career, and these methods have always been effective for me. Math has always been one of my strong suits, but we all know that hard work and strategy guarantees better scores. This guide will cover both the class and the exam.
1. Buy the Barron's prepbook
The Barron's prepbook stands as the most effective prepbook because Barron's books are notorious for overpreparing students. This allows students to have higher chance of securing a better score. Also, the Barron's book clearly outlines all the topics that may appear on the test for review and practice problems for the designated topics. However, I still recommend the Princeton Review if more practice problems and tests are needed.
 2. Get a textbook for extra problems
I took AP Calculus BC independently online, and I didn't get enough practice problems. When it comes to high school math and the AP curriculum, it's all about drilling to success. Therefore, I bought a textbook for myself, so I could do more problems. If your school already provided you with a textbook, you don't necessarily have to follow this step. However, please use your textbook to your potential by targeting the kinds of problems and procedures you don't understand and doing more than what your class gives you.
Also, I bought a used textbook instead of a new textbook, and despite the price difference, my product looked good as new.
https://www.amazon.com/Calculus-Early-Transcendentals-James-Stewart/dp/0538497904/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_14_img_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=E1HSC766YSBM5Y2Y66CZ
Answers to the textbook (answers can be very beneficial to understanding a problem):  http://www.slader.com/textbook/9780538497909-stewart-calculus-early-transcendentals-7th-edition/
3. Get three notebooks for notes
Lecture Notes
These are the notes you take in class. When writing lecture notes, you don't have to make them fancy. You have to get down all the information that's helpful for you.
Rewritten Notes
These are the notes you rewrite and organize from class. Also, you can organize practice problems from your assignments as examples. Here, you can use whatever color coding scheme you want. Usually, I transfer my lecture notes to my rewritten notebook everyday.
Hard Problem Notes
A notebook for all the problems you've had trouble on. In this notebook, I label the type of problem, the question, and the answer. After every month, you can make a timed test out of them for retaining content.
If you want to save money, the rewritten notes and hard problems can be combined as one notebook. If you want to save space and money, you can get a binder full of notebook paper and divide the stack into the needed sections.
6. If you don't understand a process, ask your teacher questions.
After rewriting my lecture notes and doing my assignments at home, I get a sticky note to remind myself about the problems I didn't fully understand. I'll be able to ask them the next day for sure. When I ask a question, if I don't completely comprehend what my teacher is saying, I will continue to ask more questions until I get it. Don't be afraid to do that!
7. Step out of your comfort zone and participate fully in class.
Generally, I'm an introvert, but participating can be very beneficial to learning. This includes raising your hand in class, doing problems in front of the class, and answering your teacher's questions. As a result, you will be more focused in class, and information will be retained more effectively.
 8. If your teacher isn't good at teaching (or you're self-studying like I did with BC), use these online resources:
PatrickJMT: http://patrickjmt.com/
Lamar University Math Notes: http://tutorial.math.lamar.edu/Classes/CalcI/CalcI.aspx
MIT OpenCourseWare: https://ocw.mit.edu/courses/mathematics/18-01-single-variable-calculus-fall-2006/syllabus/
You can also use your prepbooks and textbooks.
9. When memorizing integrals, derivatives, formulas, and methods, make a wallpaper for your phone.
You can also print it out and stick it on your bathroom window or laptop. We often find ourselves getting really busy during our high school career, and time can be saved by placing what you want to be memorized in locations you look at. This gradual form of memorization sticks better than forcing yourself. Otherwise, in desperate times, you can get out a scratch paper and copy them over and over again.
10. Take a lot of practice tests before the AP test
First, I take and correct a sample test off the CollegeBoard website. Next, I study how other students answer free response questions (notice units, explanations, and format). From there, I can list out the criteria of an excellent free response question, and I won't forget the little tidbits that may take down points. For my wrong problems, I log them along with my in my notebook of hard problems, so I can refer back to the procedure and study them later (look at step 8). Next, I use my resources (the prepbook, the textbook, and the websites) to target my weak spots, and I drill these kinds of problems until I fully understand them. I do the same with the Barron's tests next. Once you're done with the Barron's tests, you will realize that the CollegeBoard tests are much easier.
