The probe has been sending gibberish science data back to Earth, and scientists feared it was just the probe finally dying. You know, after working for 50 GODDAMN YEARS and LEAVING THE GODDAMN SOLAR SYSTEM and STILL CHURNING OUT GODDAMN DATA.

So they analyzed the gibberish and realized that in it was a total readout of EVERYTHING ON THE PROBE. Data, the programming, hardware specs and status, everything. They realized that one of the chips was malfunctioning.

So what do you do when your probe is 22 Billion km away and needs a fix? Why, you just REPROGRAM THAT ENTIRE GODDAMN THING. Told it to avoid the bad chip, store the data elsewhere.

Sent the new code on April 18th. Got a response on April 20th - yeah, it's so far away that it took that long just to transmit.

And the probe is working again.

From a programmer's perspective, that may be the most fucking impressive thing I have ever heard.

in the latest cyber-news: the internet archive has lost their case against 4 major publishing houses (verge article). they’re going to appeal, but this is still a bad outcome. the fate of the internet is currently hanging in the balance because 4 multibillionare publishing groups missed out on like $15 of combined revenue during the pandemic because of the archive’s online library service. it’s so fucking stupid.

for those who don’t know what the internet archive is, it’s a virtual library full of media. books, magazines, recordings, visuals, flash games, websites - a lot of these things either don’t exist anymore or cannot be found & bought. heard of the wayback machine? that’s part of the internet archive. it is the most important website to exist, and i don’t say that lightly. if the internet archive goes down, the cultural loss will be immeasurable.

so how can you help?

boycott the publishing companies involved in this. they’re absolute ghouls, frankly, and don’t deserve a penny. the companies involved are harpercollins (imprints), wiley (imprints), penguin random house llc (imprints), and hachette book group (imprints). make sure the websites are set to your location as it may differ worldwide.

learn to torrent. download a torrent client (i recommend transmission), a vpn (i recommend protonvpn - sign up and choose the area that’s closest to your continent/country), and hit up /r/piracy on reddit for websites. with torrenting, you can get (almost) any media you want for free in high quality, with add-ons such as subtitles, and with no risks of loss. i would also recommend getting into the habit of watching stuff online for free. the less you can pay to a giant corporation, the better.

get into the habit of downloading and archiving materials. find a TB external hard drive, ideally the higher the better. it’ll probably cost around $60 for 1TB and continue to go up, but they’re so so useful. if you can’t afford a drive, look for any GB harddrives or memory sticks you have lying around and just fill them up. videos, pdfs, magazines, songs, movies, games - anything you can rip and download and fit on there, do it, because nothing is permanent.

donate to the internet archive. this is the most important option on the list. the IA relies entirely on funding, and it’s going to need more to fight this case. whatever you can donate, do it. i promise it’s helpful.

The Owl House X Bayonetta weapon: Macbeth

I like crossovers, both The Owl House and Bayonetta involve witches, here is a design for a set of Bayonetta style guns based on TOH.

I wanted to make it a different color than the three existing gun sets of Bayonetta (Red for Scarborough Fair in 1, Blue for Love is Blue in 2, and Purple for Colour My World in 3) and I love to use the sort of brass/bronze from the Blight Industries Abomatons for Technology stuff in The Owl House. Also instead of the Umbra Witch Moon symbol on the side I went for half of Hooty's face. For the gem on the side I am debating with myself on whether I want it to be just a singular colored gem with the muzzle flash forming a Glyph, or it is a glyph on the side and the muzzle flash is normal.

The name was hard because each of the guns are named after a song, but I for the life of me CANNOT think of a song that would fit this crossover. So I went with a Play, Macbeth. Because one thing I fond out was when looking into the origin of the Word "Weird" it's most well known usage was the Weird Sisters in Macbeth, with Weird being connected to them being Witches and being able to control fate. The word "Weird" WAS used before then, but this is where it became more widespread. So Weird and Witches, both fit the Owl House, and then the thing about Fate, which goes into Luz not being a chosen one and "choosing herself". The names are based on the three fates from Greek mythology because the Three weird sisters don't have actual names, but the play does mention Hecate as the Queen of witches and Hecate is the Greek goddess of witchcraft, so I went with the Greek names of the Fates for the names of the other guns. That way I could have all four guns named.

Since I like crossover scenarios, there are two possible origins for this weapon:

1. Bayonetta AU with Luz being in Bayonetta's role, Amity as Jeanne. The Boiling Isles Titan would be who she is contracted to as well as the one associated with this weapon and her Demon Masquerade would be Titan Luz from the finale. I imagine as she runs much like how Bayonetta leaves behind flowers Luz would leave behind the red grass she generates in her final fight. I am currently debating on wether or not I'd want to try and draw this.

2. More Massive Multiplayer Crossover stuff. As universes connect they are still separated by dimensional barriers, but metaphysical planes like the afterlife/hell have much looser barriers allowing transport, resulting in some souls from one universe's afterlife ending up in another. This is bad news for any soul that may end up in Inferno, which includes the soul of the Titan after his sacrifice. The dark magics of Inferno changing him into something more powerful, but also far more destructive. Rodin obviously would be interested in a new piece of work powered by this new type of Demon (a mutated semi-god from another world), but Luz and her friends would be against it because well, this is King's dad, shouldn't they try to help him and not use him as a battery for a weapon?  Obviously Infernal Demons from Bayonetta are way above Luz's usual wheelhouse so they try to tell her to not get involved in their business, but I doubt Luz will take that lying down, resulting in her training up under other magic users from other universes in my big BS crossover idea. Bayonetta might be a bit teasing but she does promise to take good care of the Titan, and if Luz does manage to impress her, she'll hand the weapon over so they can try to attempt to cure the Titan's Inferno corruption. But that is obviously going to be a MASSIVE hill for Luz to climb. I know Bayonetta does have a heart but she is still a tease and very casual, plus Luz is someone far below her usual scale of operation that her trying to get involved in their business might be seen as laughable so Bayo and Rodin might tell her to run along and leave this to the adults. Bayonetta seems to have that "I am cooler than you" - level of sass that some people might take the wrong way.
