haikyuu ships but its things about their relationships or moments that I think would surprise their friends/teammates
starting off with my boys Daisuga: honestly definitely the rest of the team forgets that they haven't been together forever, and are never expecting when either of them are acting like, well, teenagers in a relationship. Specifically in regards to being shy in front of each other or wanting to impress each other, the rest of the team always is surprised by it because in their mind, like, why are you feeling insecure in this relationship I thought you've been dating for 2 years and Suga is just like "try 3 months BITCH now I need you to find out what his favourite kind of chocolate is I'll pay you real money if he doesnt realize why you're asking."
right along to Kagehina and honestly, literally even just realizing they have a normal relationship. I think everyone absolutely understands how they got together, but I imagine the first time ANYONE sees them out in public together they ALL have a moment thats like "oh shit they like... are actually dating" and every time Kagehina is just like... on a lunch date, or going shopping, walking a dog, just chatting. Like people are surprised that they genuinely spend time together outside of sports. The first time Kageyama goes with Hinata as his date to a family wedding the entire family is flabberghasted bc they definitely thought this was an on-court obsession only
Iwaoi is really simple, literally just people realizing that Iwaizumi has genuine romantic affection towards him is the funniest thing to me. There's a week where Iwaoi is worried bc Iwa had to go to school with a hickey on his neck but literally NOBODY bats an eye or even mentions it because "yeah Oikawa obviously-" but when theyre changing for practice and they see that Oikawa has a hickey on his neck the entire team goes feral and practically tackles Iwaizumi like "you committed to kissing him for that long?????? YOU?????" like they cannot comprehend Iwaizumi actively participating. (obviously this is also the only time they every see Iwazumi embarassed enough to visibly blush which only compounds things.)
Bokuaka's is so stupid but honestly - the first moment the team realizes that Akaashi is, like, attracted to Bokuto and isnt just his best friend that got carried away. Konoha catches Akaashi checking out Bokuto's ass as he's leaving the changing room and it legitimately ruins Konoha's day. What is he supposed to do with this information.
To be completely fair, Ushiten as a concept probably absolutely baffles the entire Shiratorizawa team for multiple reasons. I think though the obvious one is that the rest of the team cannot understand how little Ushijima is bothered by any of Tendou's antics, where Tendou is VRRY touchy and goofy and lots of PDA and affection and Ushijima is completely receptive and unbothered by it, if not going out of his way to intentionally make Tendou laugh to invite him to more. Like Tendou absolutely would sit on his lap during lunch and Reon would be sitting there losing his mind bc last time he sat too close to Ushijima he got a lecture on personal space. Oh, but now suddenly he's super chill and relaxed and nothing bothers him its tendou doing it.
Asanoya's is a little sad tbh but I think, specifically the second and first years, would be surprised by how serious Noya is about the relationship and how little he tolerates jokes about them being opposites/a surprising pair or any of that. Like theyre shocked to find out how seriously he's taking being a boyfriend and really trying to make sure Asahi is happy. The idea that it isnt superficial or just for fun for him is surprising to them.
Arankita - in a comedy of errors Atsumu accidentally finds out they they are ~no longer virgins~ and legitimately has to leave practice for 20 minutes. There's a piece of him, and the rest of the team, that had 100% believed Kita was a robot and they just.... the idea that this was something that happened organically and not for "procreation" doesnt fit in their worldview. Kita smacks the next person who brings it up and that ends the conversation.

Top 10 anime men who will lay pipe expeditiously. Haikyuu Edition. *Reupload*
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
cw: piv, dirty talk, general adult themes. minors do not interact
Akaashi |Run Time: Within the first month| Not exactly a prude, just believes that being more intuned with your partner is necessary to satisfying sex. Plus he likes the build up between general interest and sexual tension. If we’re being honest, he’s probably been thinking of putting his hands all over you since the second date. But he’s courteous enough to let you know that he actually wants to get to know you first. Likes to call you after work during the talking stage just to ask you about your day. Invites you over on his off days to make sure you’re comfortable around him. But again, he’s been holding himself back for a while. And he’s not too coy for a little phone sex in the meantime. - But, boy does he completely lose it when you crawl into his lap during one of your hangout sessions. Your friends still don’t believe you when you introduce them to the guy that “fucked you within an inch of your life” before you officially started dating.
Iwaizumi |Run Time: Within the first few weeks| He likes to believe that the reason he doesn’t rush it is because he’s “old fashioned” and that he’s mature enough to understand that “it takes time for these kinds of things.” Whole time he’s just busy. Trust me, deep down he knows if he had it his way he’d have you folded over three ways to Sunday after the third date. But he has the physical health of like twelve overgrown toddlers to manage and the team moves around pretty often. So, it’s just quick coffee dates and video calls for a while. But trust me, the moment he has time on his hands you’re done for. I suggest clearing your schedule before you meet up! You’re gonna need some time to recover.
Oikawa |Run Time: Within two weeks| First week down though and you can see it physically hurts him that he’s not fucking you as soon as he wants to. Only reason he’s holding out though is because he actually likes you, so he doesn’t want you to think that’s the only thing he’s seeking out. - But you know that meme of that guy who looks like he’s this 🤏 close to having a stroke with all those veins on his face? Yeah. Soon as he knows you’re on the same page though he’s slutting himself out to you like his life depends on it. And he talks the nastiest shit. Will tell you everything he’s been wanting to do to you and then show you in frankly exemplary detail.
Hinata |Run Time: Within a week| To his credit, he’s the most unafraid to let you know how smitten he is with you from the jump. Gave you your phone back after putting his number in with his info under “Shoyo 💕❤️” and told you to call him if you’re looking for someone to treat you right. Literally told you the night you actually hooked up that you were only doing missionary to start off, and when you asked why he replied that you were “Too pretty to fuck in anything but,” With all the sweet talk he uses in the week leading up, you’re not wrong for being completely out of your depth when he fucks you like he hates your guts. But don’t worry, the love’s still there! You’re even prettier when he’s fucked the brains outta you <3
Kuroo |Run Time: Within the first couple of dates| Class traitor often forgets the line between courting a significant other and a sugar baby. Thought the best way to charm your pants off was to buy out the restaurant you’d have your first date at and surprise you with a birkin bag. Isn’t ashamed to let you know he gets off on watching you spend his money and when he’s booking a pent-suite for your third date it takes a very necessary pause during dinner to establish that 1.) Yes, he wants to be your boyfriend. No, he didn’t know that this wasn't the right way to do it. And 2.) He’s only been spending this much money because it’s the only thing stopping him from cumming in his pants the moment he gets within a foot of you. Weird guy. Rearranges your guts like no one’s business.
Bokuto |Run Time: The date after the first| He tries…so hard to hold out, he really does! It’s just god you’re so fucking sexy. Everything you do has his brain short circuiting and he’s starting to want you so bad that it’s making him itch. Your thighs are so squishy and your lips look so plump. Everything about you looks soft to the touch and since meeting you he hasn’t been able to blow a decent load without imagining it’s you squeezing him so tight. Really, the only reason he made it this far is ‘cause first date jitters are a bitch and at the very least he has the decency to let you know he likes you first. - But then you show up in this cute little dress that keeps riding up your thighs when you walk, and the way you pout as you try to pull it down has his head feeling all fuzzy. He tries to stay cordial as he opens the door for you to slide into his car, but the way you smile up at him as he closes it behind you has his resolve breaking into pieces. Lucky for him you’re perceptive enough to notice the literal dick print in his pants the moment he climbs in; and he lights up like a Christmas tree when you suggest a quickie before dinner. Spoiler alert: It won’t be a quickie. Get your refund back on that reservation, sis.
Atsumu |Run Time: The first date| You can’t blame the guy for being shamelessly attracted to you, can you? Who cares about old fashioned courting! It ain’t worth the money if you ain’t walking funny? - All jokes aside though, he’s a firm believer in if two consenting adults like each other enough, they should be able to fuck whenever and however they want. Doesn’t find you any less respectable for letting him put your legs behind your ears on the first date. Although that was after he’d already bent you over in his car, folded you over his kitchen counter, and had you leaving drool stains on his hallway area rug. Eh, you’ll plan your next date in the shower - little hard to talk though with your face pressed against the glass.
Matsukawa |Run Time: Scheduled a time and place for you to link before hand| Hey, if you wanna turn this thing into a relationship then he’s up for that too. But he’s not gonna stress himself trying to hold back from fucking your pretty little brains out. Soon as he gets the O.K. he’s picking a time and place and hightailing it over with no stops in between. And he’s not bullshiting when he says he’s gonna fuck you stupid. The guy digs you out like he’s trying to ruin you for anybody else. But it’s not entirely his fault! He gets sick of carrying that meat missle around too 😔
Hanamaki |Run Time: Straight up just asked if you’d let him| Hedonist to the max. And no shame either. The moment he gets the feeling that you might be sexually interested in him, he’s diving in with no goggles. I mean, obviously he cares about your interests and your pursuits in life; might even think you’re nice enough to take home to mom’s one day. But that’s not what his mind’s set on right now. Only thing in his head is if he should start with collapsed doggy or drill you in from the side just to get you drooling for him that much quicker. But hey, dick was so good you forgot he don’t got a job!
Honorable Mentions!
Sakusa (Surprisingly)| Comes off as a prude because he apparently has “High standards.” Can’t admit that if he finds you attractive enough, he’ll just straight up fuck you. |
Terushima |Likes to “Do you like my tongue ring?” Himself into some pussy.|
Sugawara | Plays the part of a good loving school teacher just looking for a companionship. Gives it up as soon as he sees you’re into him.|
Osamu | “m’not a scrub like my brother.” No, baby, you’re a whore.|
And finally number one…
Suna! |Run Time: Text him at 3:00am and he’ll be there by 3:05am| Standing at 6’3.2 and 176lbs, you have caught the affection of a man who truly believes that “a hole is a hole” once he’s found himself physically attracted to someone. That’s not to say that he’s particularly loose with what he’s got but if you’ll take it? Once hiked to your place in the middle of January with basketball shorts on ‘cause you sent him a “U up?” Text in the middle of the night. Woke up the next morning with a fever but god was that pussy worth it. Fucks like he’s trying to prove something so you’re in remission for the next couple of days afterwards. And then will have the nerve to wanna be the little spoon after the fact. - Tries not to look as elated as he is when you finally tie him down but with the way he turns your insides into mush the night following, you can tell he’s pretty excited to finally call himself your boyfriend.

Bokuto, who had recently joined MSBY and secured some well-paying sponsorships, insists on taking Akaashi on a fancy vacation.
Even before they’d started dating, Bokuto had longed to treat his best friend to something special. Akaashi deserved the best, he insisted, with how much he helped Bokuto and the rest of Fukurodani.
Now, many years later, he can finally spoil Akaashi as much as he wants!
He pays for a taxi straight from Akaashi’s apartment to the airport. When they arrive, he surprises Akaashi with a booking in the private lounge, which offers complimentary drinks, pastries, and a view of planes taxiing to and fro on the tarmac.
“Wait, Koutarou,” Akaashi’s eyes are suspicious as they settle into a small plush booth, “isn’t this place reserved for upper class passengers?”
Bokuto just grins, winking over his glass of whisky. He knows the other man wouldn’t have agreed to book First Class if he’d known in advance.
Well, too bad! He chuckles to himself.
Akaashi sighs, exasperated. “I can’t believe you,” he mutters as he takes a sip of his gin and tonic. He looks out to the runway, to where a large jet is making its approach. Bokuto watches him, taking in the man’s beautiful profile, illuminated by the setting sun.
This will be good for him. Bokuto knows it. Akaashi will push back at first—the man has always been overly careful with both his time and money. But hopefully, eventually, he’ll unwind.
[a few hours later]
“Koutarou, this is way too much.”
Bokuto sniggers as he shoulders past his boyfriend and into the hotel room. He pulls both his and Akaashi’s suitcases in after him, carefully maneuvering them to the end of the king sized bed. “Oh hush! No it’s not!”
Akaashi’s scoff turns into a gasp as he glances into the bathroom. Bokuto knows he’s seeing the giant bathtub with jets that they’re no doubt going to be taking advantage of later that night.
The room is also equipped with a large flatscreen TV, a small plush sofa and ottoman, a work desk (which Bokuto will NOT be allowing his man to use), high-end toiletries, a coffee bar (another thing Akaashi will be banned from; he needs to detox!) and a balcony with lounge chairs.
“This is bigger than my first apartment.” Akaashi sounds a bit offended. Bokuto skips over to grab his wrist to pull him deeper into the room. He points excitedly towards the large wardrobe pushed against one wall.
“C’mon, babe, open that little door right there!”
One perfect eyebrow raised, Akaashi shrugs his backpack off before reaching to open the cupboard. He gasps again upon seeing the hidden mini bar, complete with snacks, tonic waters, and a set of crystal drink glasses.
“Oh, for crying out loud,” Akasashi snaps. But he’s immediately reaching inside for a drink, so Bokuto counts it as a victory.
[that evening]
The hotel’s rooftop restaurant and bar is bustling when they arrive. Thankfully, Bokuto had been sure to make a reservation, so they get seated immediately at the best table—tucked in the corner, with a fantastic view of the city below.
“Wow.” Akaashi gulps as they settle in. “This is…”
“Incredible? Beautiful? The best thing ever?” Bokuto wiggles his eyebrows.
“Fancy,” Akaashi corrects him. “Luxurious. EXPENSIVE.”
Bokuto shrugs, glancing down at the drink menu. “Get whatever you want, babe. It’s on me.” He ignores his boyfriend’s disgruntled huff. He is sure that eventually, Akaashi will start to relax and just let himself enjoy it.
(He’s willing to wait.)
With their drinks and food ordered, they fall into easy conversation. Bokuto watches with glee as Akaashi enthusiastically digs into his plate. The man is obviously not used to such delicacies, more accustomed to snacking on convenience store food and takeout.
“I think I like the sea urchin dish best,” Akaashi says, his rosy cheeks full of rice. As usual, a few grains have found their way onto his chin. His eyes are sparkling.
Bokuto just grins.
[the next day]
“Koutarou, stop splashing.”
“Sorry, babe!” Bokuto switches to a calm breast stroke as he approaches Akaashi. The resort’s pool is huge, allowing the already limited amount of guests to spread out enough to have plenty of their own space. Which is perfect—that last thing Bokuto wants his boyfriend to have to deal with this week is crowds.
Akaashi is floating lazily, elbows propped up on the edge. He glares, but there’s not much heat to it. “I could forgive you if you go find me a glass of rosé,” he says. Bokuto tuts.
“You already had one.” Akaashi shrugs, causing Bokuto to laugh. “All right, but remember, we have that wine tasting class tonight! We don’t want you to show up to it already drunk, eh?”
Shrugging, Akaashi extends his legs. His ankles hook around Bokuto’s waist, capturing him and pulling forward. “You said this trip was for me,” Akaashi states, folding his legs further until their torsos are nearly touching. “Right?”
“Yeah, yeah. Of course.” Bokuto’s hands find the pool edge, on either side of his boyfriend, intentionally capturing him back. “Anything for you, your highness.”
They stare at each other, heat quickly building in the space between. It’s a heat that is familiar, and oh-so exciting. But also a heat that is a bit too intense for a public space.
Begrudgingly, Bokuto pulls back, shifting his focus to retrieving the drink. He feels Akaashi’s eyes on him as he climbs out of the pool. He smirks. “Later,” he mouths, and delights at how the man’s ears go red.
[later that week]
Akaashi seems like a new person when he returns from the spa.
Bokuto knew that booking a massage for his boyfriend was of the utmost importance. The man’s grueling editor job had turned his once strong, nimble frame into a mess of knots.“How was it?” Bokuto asks as his boyfriend shuffles into the room.
“Mmm,” Akaashi replies, blinking slowly. He’s dressed in a pair of joggers and a soft linen shirt, and the resort’s complimentary slippers. He makes it to where Bokuto is reading a magazine on the small sofa.
“Mmm?” Bokuto echoes, as Akaashi lowers himself into his lap. His hands slide up Bokuto’s chest and around his neck. “Keiji?” Bokuto’s arms circle Akaashi’s middle, noticing how the man’s body is still warm from the sauna.
He stays silent for a while, as Akaashi continues to melt further into his embrace. A mop of black curls is suddenly in his face as Akaashi’s head dips low, lips finding Bokuto’s neck. “Keiji,” he breathes.
“Hmm?” Akaashi smiles against his skin, making Bokuto shiver.
“You seem relaxed,” Bokuto says, biting his bottom lip as his boyfriend shifts slightly in his lap. “And, um, cuddly.”
Akaashi nods. Slowly, he pushes himself up so that they meet gazes. He leans forward to kiss Bokuto on the nose, each cheekbone, and then, finally, his lips.
“All thanks to you, love.”
[the final day]
Bokuto awakens slowly. It’s bright, even through the thick curtains, and he hears the sound of a bird chirping just outside the window.
He turns to see Akaashi dozing next to him, spread out on his back like a starfish. The massive bed allows him to without pushing Bokuto off the mattress—a common occurrence whenever they sleep together.
(Not that Bokuto minds much; after all, his own snoring wakes Akaashi up all the time.)
Akaashi’s cheek is pressed into the silk pillowcase. His face is calm, without tension, free of the usual furrow to his brow he often does in his sleep. Bokuto can’t help but feel proud. He successfully got Akaashi Keiji, overworked manga editor and chronic over thinker, to relax!
He might just deserve a medal.
They don't have to check out until 11am, so Bokuto plans to let his man sleep as long as he needs.
Then, one last surprise—a special brunch at the fancy French cafe next door.
He grins, satisfied.
Maybe he won't always have the means to do this for Akaashi. Who knows what the future holds. But for now, he's going to enjoy spoiling him as much as he can.
//
I totally forgot about this fic until I was looking through my WIPs this week. I know it’s random and unstructured, so apologies for that, but I didn’t just want it to trash it. SO here! If you enjoyed, please comment and share! 🥰💕

Black coded!Karasuno manager headcannons
Warnings: cursing, reader flirting with every fine man because she can, chaotic karasuno, karasuno being readers found family, fem reader, miss reader is poly and ain’t afraid to show it, some sappy feelings, probably spelled people names wrong
Tumblr media Tumblr media

don’t lie to me - part one
akaashi keiji x reader
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
a con-artist, lovers-to enemies-to lovers au
the GUIDEPOST  the MASTERLIST
synopsis: You have nothing to lose, and that’s exactly why you love to go after those who do. Lying is as easy as knocking down a house of cards, revealing truths of corruption underneath. You and Akaashi are leaders of your own team of Robin Hoods, but you can’t keep up the act forever, can you? When you threaten trading this life in for something more romanticized, you and Akaashi fall right back into your old, hateful ways.
tags: lying stealing robbing etc., lovers to enemies, con-artist/spy!au, haikyuu x the great pretender crossover, not very relationship forward, but a lot of fluff sprinkled in, arguments, fights, angst, a break up
word count: 8535
-
Hitoka Yachi was a liar. She was a thief. She was a con artist. And she could not tell you how she got to this point in her life.
And there she sat in the living room of an affluent old lady who knew nothing about the telephone package Yachi was trying to sell to her.
That’s what made her the perfect target, an ideal victim to scam out of a few hundred bucks. Just like the others in this neighborhood Yachi had already meticulously gone after.
“Let me make it simple for you,” Yachi told her, putting on her best and brightest smile, “You can give me a down payment now - of eight hundred dollars - and when our team comes for the installment, you can make your decision then. We can deduct any extra payment from next month’s bill.”
The woman took a deep breath and used the pause for thought to adjust her shawl on her shoulder. “Well…”
“And this is the last day for this offer! Remember, this is a huge holiday discount. Even if you wait until tomorrow - it would be triple the price!”
It wasn’t a holiday or anywhere near.
“I probably shouldn’t pass this up, then…”
The woman reached for her large purse and Yachi shot out of her seat in excitement, raring to snatch the payment from her.
“Thank you! We’ll be in contact about the installation day! Thank you!”
With the money in her hands she darted out the door, leaving behind every pamphlet and example photo she had brought with her. All she cared about was getting outside so she could do her happy dance in private.
What she was doing wasn’t wrong. These people already have enough money to afford their nice homes and retirement dreams. Yachi was simply taking advantage, and she was doing it to survive.
She started walking in a random direction and stopped at the first restaurant she came to. She stuffed her hand deep in her pocket to tuck her money inside - first, she pulled out a sliver of paper. Written on it was the name and phone number for the woman she just had a meeting with.
As she walked inside, she wadded the note up and threw it toward a trash can nearby.  It bounced off the edge and landed on the ground.
-
Yachi’s only friend was a woman older than her, cooler than her, and meaner than her. Tanaka Saeko played drums for a band, drove a beat up van, and frequented all the restaurants Yachi loved. That made them friends by default.
She was telling Saeko all about the recent job and how she made a new eight hundred bucks, while Saeko was barely listening, stuffing her face and kicking rocks under the picnic table.
“I actually need a favor.”
Saeko grunted.
“Help me out, and I’ll give you half.”
Yachi pulled a brown wallet out of her back pocket.
Saeko rolled her eyes. “Again? Really?”
The two of them did this every day.
“Come on,” she whined, “it’s fun! Look, the woman in the purple ordering at the counter - she’ll be perfect for it.”
The street was nearly empty, save for the few people eating at tables or walking by. It was the perfect day for making more money, and Yachi would do just that.
You were standing in front of a food stall sipping lemonade when you got a tap on your shoulder.
“Excuse me - did you drop this?”
“I’m sorry?”
“This wallet was on the ground, it’s yours, right?”
The girl opened the wallet and showed the cash inside, knowing it would pique your interest, and then let you take it from her hands.
Yachi put on a sweet smile until Saeko came over to wipe it off.
“It’s mine. Hand it over.”
Saeko took the billfold from you, but Yachi snatched it right back from her then stuffed it in her back pocket.
With her arms up in innocent defense, “You know what, I’ll just take it to the police.”
“I told you, it’s mine.”
“How am I supposed to know that?”
“What, do you want a reward or something?”
While they bickered, you finished your drink. Then, you pulled two twenties from your purse.
“It is mine, actually. Here’s your reward.”
And Yachi smiled at you, pulled the wallet out, and handed it over to you as she took your money.
“Thank you so much,” you said, being so sweet it felt fake, and then you wrapped your arms around her, giving her the most awkward hug of her life. “I appreciate it so much, thank you. Have a great day.”
Then, you walked off.
You were hardly out of earshot when Yachi started laughing to herself as she pulled the real, money filled wallet out of her pocket.
“It’s just so easy these days!”
Saeko held her hand out expectantly. Yachi slapped a bill in her hand.
“Thanks for playing,” she said, and Saeko said nothing. “You still hungry? It’ll be my treat!”
Just to brag, she pulled the wallet open, showing Saeko her earnings. The extra twenty she just stole from you didn’t seem like much in comparison to the hundreds in the pouch, but it all adds up. Every cent counts when you’ve got rent to pay.
And Saeko was laughing. Cackling like a bird.
“What? What’s so funny?”
“What are you going to buy?” she said through bursts of laughter and tears, “free samples?”
“What are you talking about?”
She looked down at the wallet and -
- it was empty.
Empty.
Her money was gone.
“You gave away the wrong one!”
Yachi felt her heartbeat in her ears. Her eyes nearly popped out of her head and landed right in the money pouch. She could have laughed, too, out of pure anger.
“I didn’t. I didn’t - I’m not stupid! I wouldn’t mess up that badly - did she…?”
She turned around, looking all over for you, then went running in the direction you had gone.
Yachi already figured out what you had done.
When you hugged her, you pick-pocketed her.
You knew she had given you an empty wallet, so you took the one with the money.
That’s the only explanation.
She ran down the block and easily found you, standing in front of a stall selling jewelry. And she was more than ready to make a scene in order to get her money back.
“Hey! Hey!”
You ignored her until she was standing right next to you.
“You stole my money!”
You glanced over at her, then said, “Hm? Aren’t you the one who found my wallet?”
“It wasn’t yours!”
You let a smile slip. “It wasn’t?”
“Look, just give it back.”
You walked away from the jewelry booth, but Yachi peddled behind you.
“Why would I do that? You gave it to me, said it was mine - so, it’s mine.”
“Well, it was a mistake! It wasn’t yours - it was mine, so I need you to return it.”
“Are you trying to steal from me?”
“What? No! I’m trying to get my money back!”
You didn’t reply, and Yachi didn’t know what else to do, so she kept following you.
She was stuck walking in your footsteps, letting you guide her wherever you were going, because she had no other ideas.
The only thing she could do was nag you until you gave in.
“All of my money was in that wallet. Like, all of it. At least eight hundred dollars. You’re stealing all of my money, and I’m already poor, so you’re just making me even more poor. Are you really okay with that?”
You said nothing.
“My name is Yachi, by the way. Hitoka Yachi. I’m pretty popular around here, actually. Are you new to town? I could show you around. For a price, anyway. Hey, if you give me my money back, I could show you how to make all the money in the world - I know the easiest ways.”
She meandered around you, stopping you in your path, finally getting the chance to speak to your face. She gave you a smile that was as genuine as it was frustrated; all you could do was laugh.
“How long do you plan on following me?”
Her smile fell. “Until I get my money back.” She was pouting, looking like she was trying too hard to look angry. You gave her a look that turned her anger up higher. “The money you stole from me.”
“In the wallet you said was mine?”
She stomped her foot; you didn’t hold back your laughter at her.
“What a con artist you are. Aren’t you clever?” you joked as you walked ahead of her, and her footsteps quickly followed yours.
“Look, I don’t know who you are, or who you think you are, but I know what I’m doing here. So maybe you should watch your tone.”
You tried not to laugh, you really did, but the sound erupted from your lips before you could seal them shut. Yachi stopped in her tracks at the sound.
You turned around, continuing to walk backwards as you said, “It seems like I’ve scammed the scammer, then, haven’t I?” And then you turned again, not stopping until you reached your destination.
Neither of you said a word until you were opening the gate outside of a quaint home.
“Where are we? What are you doing here?”
“I’m going home,” you said. “Do you want to camp out here, or come inside?”
Yachi peered behind you to look at the house, but the only thing that caught her eye was a man standing at the door. He stood there like he was a guard.
“Who is that?”
 “Who?”
Yachi pointed, and you turned to glance behind you.
“He’s just someone I work with. I’m not sure what he’s here for… maybe something I owe him.”
You sighed, and Yachi got the idea that you weren’t happy to see this guy. She was immediately intimidated by the man - his gaze alone was enough to send her shrinking into herself. Dressed in all black, his strong looking arms crossed, and his jaw locked - according to Yachi’s low standards, he looked like someone she wanted nothing to do with.
You began walking away, into your gate and toward the house.
“Hey! What about my money?!”
“You mean my money?” You walked back over to her then pulled an ink pen and an old receipt out of your purse. “Here’s my name and number. Call me if you need anything, alright?”
You shoved the paper in her hand and then you left, into your house, and the man didn’t follow. He stood in the same spot, watching Yachi’s every move. She kicked herself out of his eyesight, fast.
The money in that wallet you stole was for a late rent payment. Her shitty apartment wasn’t worth what she paid for it every month, but it held her few belongings and kept her warm enough. And it was getting harder and harder to lie her way out of paying the bills on time.
And now that money is gone.
She could have just followed you into your home, but even she isn’t stupid enough to walk into a situation like that one.
Besides, that guy was scary enough that she was grateful for being out of his sight.
She’d just have to cut her losses. You can’t win ‘em all - she’d happily lose this time if it meant she never had to see that guy again. And that wasn’t the first time she had less than a dollar to her name. She’d just have to work a little harder tomorrow.
She looked down at the note you gave her. It did in fact have a name, and a few numbers written down, but it wasn’t enough to make a phone number. Of course. Yachi didn’t expect any better, but she swore the next time she saw you, she wouldn’t let you go.
Her walking was directionless, and she didn’t know where she was, but eventually the neighborhood turned familiar enough that she felt alright to slow her pace and catch her breath. She was only wandering, looking for something to stop her, when -
“Oh my god! There she is! Right there! That’s her - that’s the girl!”
One second she was kicking a pebble down the street - the next, she barely had the time to turn and run from the two cops chasing her, who were directed by the old woman from the telephone scam.
It was one thing after another.
She turned one corner then another before she found her escape. It looked like it was placed in front of her by God himself - too good to be true - and, of course, she took the path that was laid out: a taxi stopped on the side of the road with a familiar person getting into it - you. Yachi dived into the door you had left open and slammed it behind her.
“Let’s share the ride!” she said, trying to hide how out of breath she was. Your mouth hung in surprise but you only nodded, and the driver took off. Yachi looked back - not a cop in sight.
Safe at last.
“Back already?”
Yachi sat back in her seat and relaxed, because she finally could. But the silence took over fast, and she had to strike up conversation.
“Seriously, who was that guy?”
“Oh, don’t mind him. I took care of him.”
“You - did you -”
“Kill him?” Yachi gasped, you laughed. “No, god no - who do you think I am?”
“I have no idea who you are,” she said, and you laughed. Then, she realized, “Where are we going?”
“The airport,” you replied. You turned to look at her, your makeup still perfect, your hair only slightly messier than it was before, red lips in a sweet sneaking grin. “Then to LA.”
“LA?”
You nodded.
In the rush of the series of events, Yachi thought of this as an offer. A way out. A new market.
Technically, she was on the run now, and she still had to get back what you took from her, and she had nothing here to leave, anyway. Most of her things were in the tattered backpack she took everywhere with her.
“I’ll come with - if you buy my plane ticket.”
You refused. But she’d convince you.
-
“What are we doing here, anyway?”
“I’m here for work - I don’t know where you’re going. I need to make a stop by my place.”
“Well, you’ll let me stay with you for the night, right?”
There were hours of traffic between the two of you and your destination, and Yachi got to sleep through it until you forced her awake and brought her inside of an extravagant house. She didn’t get the chance to examine the outside - you walked too fast for her to keep up.
She developed a quick habit out of following you around. She didn’t know what else she was supposed to do, and her one goal was to take her cash back from you, afterall.
But when you led her into a big, open room, it seemed like you had enough of having her as your shadow.
“Can’t you go somewhere else?”
“Where?”
“Anywhere,” you sighed. You plopped down on the long velvet couch that faced the large window, then said, “Show yourself around. I’m waiting for company.”
“Fine.”
Looking as if she was trying to be passive aggressive, she trotted back out the door the two of you came through. Outside of it was a long hallway with many doors on either side; she didn’t know which room she should go into first.
With the blue carpet catching her footsteps, it was a soft walk to the first door. Yachi swung it open brazenly to find - a bathroom.
Plain and boring as they come. A stark opposite from the rest of the house that she’d seen - the main room was lavish, filled with furniture and decorated perfectly, windows lining an entire wall with beautiful paintings hanging on the rest of them.
She thought mansion bathrooms were meant to be fancy - with toilets made of gold and water fountains rather than sinks and a swimming pool for a tub.
Maybe you sunk your budget in the living room.
She decided to leave the door open, just to be rude, before she went to the next one.
There wasn’t time for her to open it before a door at the main end of the hallway opened seemingly on its own. Yachi was curious, wondering what kind of person would be walking through it.
When she saw him, she ran, and she loudly encouraged you to do the same.
The lazy way you stood up made it obvious that you weren’t bothered at all.
“What are you doing?”
“Running away, because that scary man followed you all the way here and it’s probably because he wants to kill you,” she said, all in one breath, the entire sentence sounding like one word.
You only crossed your arms. Yachi didn’t understand.
“Excuse me.”
The sound of his voice behind her made her yelp, and she ran straight to hide behind the couch.
“Whatever she did has nothing to do with me!”
The only part of her body visible was her eyes, peeking out just enough to see what this man’s next move was.
He completely ignored her, gunning straight for you. He reached his arms out and Yachi didn’t want to look - she couldn’t bear to see what he was about to do to you.
The man looked strong, and maybe you were capable of fighting but Yachi wouldn’t bet her stolen money on it. You weren’t even stepping away, in fact - you were stepping toward him.
He wrapped his arms around you and that was it, Yachi thought - he was probably going to squeeze you until you popped. She clamped her eyes shut, but then opened one of them because she couldn’t help herself. She just had to watch as he -
Kissed you.
Yachi really did not understand.
“Keiji, I missed you to death.”
“You couldn’t stand a couple days apart?”
“It felt like forever. I think I should just stitch myself to you, I’d be happier that way.”
Yachi shot up out of her hiding spot.
“I thought this was the guy you owed!”
“I did owe him. I told you I took care of him, didn’t I?”
The wink you sent Yachi’s way had her dropping her jaw in a realizing, disgusting anger.
“By the way,” Keiji said, “Where’s the big scary man who’s trying to kill you?”
Yachi didn’t care about a thing the man said, and she didn’t care about the joyous look on your face. All she cared about was getting answers.
“Who the hell are you? What do you want from me?”
“I told you who I am. You’re the one who’s been following me around this entire time - remember?” You weren’t even looking at Yachi. Instead, you were busy straightening Keiji’s collar. You kissed him once again and then stepped away, saying, “Could you bring me that briefcase, babe?” and he did as he was told.
She stood on the couch and then jumped over it, landing on her feet with a punctuating thud. “Because you stole my money. All of my money! And I want it back!”
“Right - about that money… Where’d it come from, exactly?”
Keiji sat the briefcase on the table in front of you. You opened it and pulled out three different things.
Yachi didn’t try to explain herself. You already had all of the answers, and you held them up for her to see.
The terrible pamphlet for the phone company she handmade, the contract    signed by the woman she had scammed, and the crumpled note she had thrown away.
And she felt like a child again, being scolded by her mother for her bad grades. Like she was small, like you were bigger than her so that meant you were right. It didn’t feel fair.
“Where did you get those?”
You offered no explanation. “That poor, innocent woman,” you said with a tut. “But she wasn’t the first, was she?”
“So what? Are you going to rat me out or something?”
“No. Honestly, I couldn’t care less about it.”
“So what is this for?” Yachi took a loud step toward you, trying to make herself feel bigger, stronger, smarter. “Just give me my money so I can leave.”
“I never said I had your money.”
Yachi froze.
“What?”
You shrugged. “I don’t have it. You assumed I did.”
“Then who does?!”
“The girl you were with - she got a hold of it.”
“Saeko?!”
Then, Keiji stepped into it. “I think you might’ve taken this one too far, sweetheart.”
“But she knows what she’s doing,” you said, and the sweet voice you used with him sounded like nails on a chalkboard. “I didn’t do anything. Every choice she made was completely independent.”
The worst part?
You were right.
Yachi chose to take that old lady’s money. She chose you out of the crowd to play the wallet scam against. She chose to follow you home, to leave you at your house, to seek refuge in the taxi you were in. And then, on top of it all, she followed you to a brand new city.
And you didn’t suggest she do a single thing. You just let her.
It was her own fault. So she crumpled to the ground, because there was simply nothing left for her to do.
She fell for every word that left your mouth - and you didn’t even ask her to.
It was pathetic. She was pathetic.
You stood in front of her, tossed the pamphlet on the ground for her to look at. “It doesn’t feel good, does it? Being stolen from?”
Yachi didn’t reply.
“Do you want some advice?”
Yachi watched as you knelt down in front of her. She looked up at you, at your too sweet smile. Still, there were no cracks in your image. It was strange, and it was enticing, and it was maddening.
“Learn how to choose your targets, sweetheart. Maybe you should pick a different line of work.”
You wadded up the note and threw it down in front of her, just like she had thrown it to the trash. Your words were cutting, even as you got up and walked away. You had just given her a failing grade on the one thing she felt like she was good at - it hurt.
And she was all alone now, on the floor in a random home in this strange city. And she wished she had somewhere to go.
Until a hand reached out to her.
Keiji.
She took it, because she didn’t have any other choice - besides sitting there forever.
“She can be a little mean sometimes. Don’t take it too personally.”
Yachi didn’t know what to say, so she said nothing.
“Do you want to make your money back?”
Yachi nodded.
“Then let’s go. We’re already late.”
-
Maybe you were too mean to the young girl, but it definitely wasn’t your fault. It’s just the way things happened to play out.
Keiji obviously believed otherwise.
“I’m just saying - she’s just a kid. You didn’t have to go so hard on her.”
“I was teaching her a lesson!”
“You could’ve been a little nicer about it. That’s all I’m saying.”
“Keiji, you were in on it.”
“Hey, you were the boss - I was just doing what I was told!”
“Can you stop talking about me like I’m not right here?”
The both of you turned around to see Yachi behind you, tagging along like a third wheel. Keiji mumbled a quick apology; you continued walking without a word to her.
“Where are we even going?” the girl asked.
“To strike up a deal,” you said, feigning excitement so it would get her in a better mood.
And it worked like you were rubbing paint off your hands onto her. She piped up immediately, getting a spring in her step.
“Okay, what’s the plan?”
“You’ll see.”
“Nothing you need to know yet,” Keiji said as you all stopped in front of a large ornate gate; behind it, the biggest house Yachi had ever seen.
“Whoa. Is this some door-to-door scam for millionaires or something?”
You groaned loud. “Something like that.”
Keiji dropped your hand and moved to press a button on the intercom next to the fence. In less than a minute, three men came walking down the path on the opposite side; one of them used a key to open the gate.
All of them looked rough and mean. Dressed in leather jackets and lazily buttoned patterned shirts, gold chains around their necks and rings on their fingers, Yachi could easily assume these guys were cheap security for whoever lived in this mansion. She didn’t like the look of them.
The man in the center pulled his sunglasses off then shook Keiji’s hand.
“About time,” he said, then started leading your group inside.
Around the back of the house was a pool and a party. The bright blue water looked refreshing enough to jump into fully clothed, and all of the beautiful girls in bikinis had Yachi feeling self conscious of the little effort she put into her appearance. You had thrown a button up shirt and black pants at her and made her get changed in the car, and she was feeling far from herself.
She watched you and Keiji shaking hands and making conversation with the person who seemed to be the owner of this house - a tall woman who wore glasses and had long, pin straight, jet black hair.
Yachi wasn’t doing such a good job at following your conversation, but she heard the tail end of what the woman was saying.
“...This will be so great for both of us, I’m so excited to finally be finishing this deal. Um - where is the… supply?”
“The delivery should be here soon,” Keiji said, checking his watch. “Set to arrive around back.”
“Right - of course. No point in risking traveling alone with something so important.”
“In the meantime,” you said, and you wrapped your arms around Yachi’s shoulders and pulled her to stand in front of you. “This is an intern of ours - the one we were telling you about. She has been paramount in developing the new product.”
Yachi forced a fake, awkward smile at the woman.
“Oh, it’s amazing to meet you!”
“The two of you should get acquainted. Just don’t spill any secrets.” You winked at her and then took a step back. “The two of us will head over to the warehouse and we’ll give you a call when the goods arrive. Sound good?”
Leaving no chance for Yachi to reply, you and Keiji left her alone, walking past the party down a path that led behind the house.
Keiji asked you, “How do you think she’ll do?”
You shrugged. “She can’t fuck it up too badly. We’re already in the homestretch.”
The warehouse was exactly that - a large building with two garage doors and no windows, with its only entrance door guarded by two men. One of them short, thin, and balding; the other tall, with salt and pepper hair and too much muscle. You greeted them both then swung the door open and walked into the fluorescent lights inside.
The building was mostly empty now; Ten, your current client, had gotten rid of nearly all of her inventory after the first meeting she had with you. To make room for the stock you’d promised.
Arms wrapped around your waist and pulled you in. “We’ve got time to kill, baby.”
You looked back at him, kissed his cheek. “Not as much time as you need.”
“You only need five minutes.” He pulled away just enough to turn you around, then pulled you right back against him, teasing a kiss against your lips. “I thought you missed me?”
He kissed you soft, just enough to get you to want more - to remind you what you were missing. As headstrong as you were, Keiji was the only one who knew how to crack your resolve.
You let him kiss you as much as he wanted to, because you weren’t ready to put up a fight yet.
“You know I missed you,” you whined against his lips. He caressed your pouting bottom lip with his thumb.
“You’re a sweetheart. My sweet girl. Why don’t we just get this over with so I can show you how much I missed you?”
You kissed his finger, then his palm, and looked up at him with bright eyes and a swelling smile.
“I think we have five minutes to spare.”
-
Yachi had been alone with this woman for half an hour, and getting through the conversation felt like swimming in putty.
At this point, she felt like she deserved a fucking degree in bullshitting, because even though her words made no sense to herself, the woman ate them up like candy.
Yachi had learned very little, and yet way too much about the business practices here.
The woman’s name was Ten, and she’s worked in Hollywood as a film director for nearly twenty years, and the product she was buying off of you was… drugs. All of her money didn’t come from the shitty movies she’s made, but from the drugs she’s been peddling.
So Yachi had gotten tied up with drug dealers. She could handle your lying and stealing, but this was too far for her.
She wouldn’t realize the irony in that sentiment.
“I was skeptical before, to be honest. But after meeting you, I’m nothing but excited,” Ten told her.
It all felt surreal even though she was clueless of the situation. She had Ten convinced that she was a pharmaceutical technician who lacked experience but had an abundance of knowledge - a great mind who would become a pillar in the industry, someone who would change the drug industry and make people like her even richer.
Your call to Ten was a saving grace.
“Perfect. Send one of the guards up to escort me with the money. I’ll be right down.”
Yachi joined Ten, a muscular guard, and four briefcases to the warehouse around back. On the walk, Ten explained how she did all her business in cash, because it was easy payment with no risk of being tracked - even though Yachi never asked.
When they entered the building, Yachi held her breath, preparing to witness her first ever drug deal, and she had no idea what she was in for.
It was a giant room that was completely empty. There was a table in the center, a briefcase on top of it, and the fluorescent light shining directly onto it looked like a spotlight.
Yachi was confused, and Ten seemed even more so.
High heels echoed on the concrete floor as the woman walked to the case. She opened it, and then she snapped her head around to glare at Yachi.
The briefcase was empty.
“What’s going on here?”
She made her way back to Yachi quickly; arms came out to grab her, and she ducked underneath them. She fell onto her hands and knees, turned around, and crawled toward the door before clambering back up to her feet.
“Honestly, I have no clue!” she called back.
She pushed the door open, she saw safety in the sunlight outside. She only got to take one step on the grass before she was cut off by the guard who was with them before, still carrying the cases of money under his arm.
There was no way she was fighting him off, so when he picked her up, she let him. He threw her over his shoulder and all she could do was beat on his back with small fists.
“Let me go!” she cried. “I have nothing to do with this! Seriously! I don’t even know those two! Just let me go!”
When he finally put her down, it was onto warm metal. She opened her scared eyes to find she was in the bed of a pickup truck and so was her kidnapper.
With the truck moving she had almost no balance, but she was able to find her way to her hands and knees so she could look through its back window.
You stared at her in the rear view mirror. You even gave her a little wave, one that was all confidence and cockiness and made Yachi want to scream.
“What the hell was that?” She turned around, glared at the man who had captured her. “Who are you?”
He laughed, grinned wide, and stuck his hand out for her to shake.
“Bokuto - nice to meet ‘ya!”
-
You had been pulling the wool over Ten’s eyes for months now, building a relationship and rapport that seemed fruitful for the both of you. Ten shared secrets with you that you never needed to know, because you already had a plan scratched out before you ever met her.
She dealt the kind of drugs that killed people. The deeper the cut, the bigger the profit - that’s how she spoke of her cheap sales. It was easy to take advantage of her greed, convince her to only buy from you, pretend you were bringing something to the table she couldn’t pass up. So she cut her ties even though she was already bleeding money, and she put her last couple millions into the briefcases you stole from her, and if she ever recovered you’d give her a round of applause.
Maybe she would learn her lesson. Or maybe she wouldn’t. But your work with her was finally done.
The group of you were gathered on the terrace, drinks in hand, for an evening celebrating a job pulled off.
“All that work for one day of fun,” Bokuto sighed.
You were quick to scold him, “It’s not meant to be fun, Bo, it’s supposed to be work.”
The night sky was clouded by city lights; the stars were replaced by lampposts and neon signs. This town was alive beyond the balcony rails ahead of you. But you were only watching Yachi, who sat across from you, on the ground behind the table. She had her knees up, hugging them like she was afraid of taking up too much space, as if she had ever seen a terrace this large.
You sat up from your seat - which was Keiji’s lap - and placed your drink on the table, before sitting down on her level.
“How much did you say was in that wallet?”
She huffed and avoided your eye contact.
“I don’t know… eight hundred dollars.”
You slid a stack of cash across the table to her. Her eyes grew, and she sat still.
“For your work today,” you said.
“How much is that?”
“A few thousand. You weren’t too integral - just a distraction, really - so it’s not much.”
“...Thanks.”
“You could stick around, if you want.” It was a delicate offer, one that didn’t mean much to you, just like the money you handed over. “We always have room.”
She didn’t reply, not at first, but after a moment she gave you a meek nod.
“And I’ll get paid more?”
You stood back up then sat next to Keiji, and he pulled you in close; a kiss on your head, then your cheek, then your neck, and you were ready to forget about the world and only think about his lips.
“There’s always more to be paid,” you told her. “If you’re going to stick around, you should probably get acquainted with everyone.” You pointed to your left, “That’s Bokuto. You already met him, I think. He’s the muscle.” You meant it as a joke, but he flexed a bicep that proved your words. Then, you gestured to your right, looking at the old man laid across the wicker couch. He still wore the security guard disguise. “That’s Kudo.”
He gave a weak hearted salute. “Sure am.”
“There’s others, but they don’t always come around. You’ll meet them if you’re on the team long enough.”
“Team?”
It was innocent, the way she said it - with her head turned to the side and her eyes squinting. You were sure that you had felt the way she was feeling, back when you were five years younger and just meeting this group for the first time.
“Yeah, we’re a team, I guess. That’s the best word for it.” Try as you might to be nonchalant, you couldn’t completely cover the pride in your tone. “You’re in, if you want to be.”
You already knew she would stick around, because she had nowhere else to go. Anybody else who offered her refuge wouldn’t have good intentions, and you weren’t sure if she knew that or not - and that’s why you were making this offer in the first place. When you had heard about Yachi from Saeko, you knew she needed a place to fit - and that you had just the spot.
Even if you had to teach her a tough lesson the hard way, you meant well. And those lessons were far from over.
“Think about it,” you told her, and that was all of the time you were willing to give for the moment - because the alcohol had you buzzing, and Keiji’s arms around you were pulling you away.
So you let him take you off your seat and toward the door, but you had one more bit of information to share with Yachi.
“Oh, and - remember the old woman you stole that money from?”
Yachi perked up.
“She’ll be here tomorrow.”
-
Something about spending the evening outside made you wish to be swallowed up by the night time. Your bedroom was perfectly warm yet your hands were frigid. You were completely relaxed but your shoulders still felt tense.
Nights like those carried a different feeling. One free of planning, lying, and conning; it was the release of all of those things settling in the celebration of success. Like the clouds finally parted and you could see the stars with childlike relief. You no longer had to worry about getting away with something.
With your back to Keiji, you let your face fall. You took a breath and held it, because no one was waiting for you to exhale.
“What a day,” you said to yourself. “Now that it’s over it feels like a perfect night for running away.”
“Away from me?” Keiji joked.
You turned your head only slightly. Enough that he could see that your guard was down, but you didn’t dare give him your eyes.
“With you.”
He pulled his t-shirt on and came to sit next to you. “And where would we go?”
“Anywhere,” you said with a shrug. And you thought about his question, and if your answer would be the right one. If it should be the truth, or another lie.  “Somewhere normal, maybe.”
Keiji laughed. “Normal? You’d get bored of that in a day.”
“I would not,” you replied, “not if you were with me.”
“Don’t get all romantic on me now.” He got up, got into bed.
You might have been sitting on the edge of something you didn’t want to fall off of.
“You don’t want to run away with me, Keiji?” You couldn’t tell if you were making a joke or not, and you didn’t know if you wanted to hear his answer at all.
Because, in reality, you knew what his real answer would be. You knew his honesty was ugly and that’s why he showed you half truths.
You guessed he decided to ignore it all together. “Come to bed with me, baby.”
You stood up, walked around the bed and sat too close to him. He pushed your hair back away from your face, held you and looked at you.
“Why are you pouting?
“I’m serious,” you said.
“About what?”
“I don’t know.”
He laughed at that, all lighthearted and soft, and kissed you like it’d make you drop it. “Let’s talk about it later, baby - turn around, let me unzip your dress for you.”
“No, Keiji,” and you pulled away just enough that you didn’t have to look at him. “You don’t ever think about what it would be like?”
“It feels like we’ve talked about this before,” he said. “What are you getting at?”
“I just think it would be nice if things changed.” You stood up, and for a split second you thought about dropping it.
The last time you had a conversation like this was years ago, when you finally had enough money to retire and live easy. Keiji had brought it up, just offering the idea, and you had to remind him that it would never work out. Not with the two of you, anyway - not with the relationship you had.
Because nothing lasts forever, and you’re better than settling down, and you weren’t going to let yourself get hurt again. You promised each other that either of you could walk away any time, so don’t get too attached.
And if a break up never came, well - both of you had been scarred by the vision of death, witnessing it literally - viciously. You don’t have a particularly safe job, and history tends to repeat, and it was easier to move on if your life didn’t revolve around the other’s beating heart.
But it was too late for those sentiments to matter anymore. It had been almost three years since then, and you didn’t fear the future anymore. Keiji stayed, even though you thought he never would - even though no one ever stuck around that long - and you were starting to think that, maybe, he was going to be there forever. Maybe it was okay for you to ask him to.
So you wouldn’t let it go.
“We could have more than just… this. You know? What if we just bought a big house in a suburb? We could have pets, and… We could get married, even! And go on a honeymoon to some place nice - and we’ll be there to have fun instead of - I don’t know - rigging sports bets or stealing paintings! And it would all be so simple and easy!”
“Where is all of this coming from?”
You didn’t even know. But you meant it, all of it, and you wanted him to understand.
“I just - I… I want to have a life with you, Kei.”
“We have a life together,” he said, like he was confused, and he got up and walked over to you, he tried grabbing at you like he could put you back together. Like he could fit you in his hands. “This is our life. Can you seriously imagine us living like that? Getting married?”
“Can’t you?”
He knew his answer, he just didn’t want to say it.
“This is too much,” he said. “We’ve talked about this. I thought you didn’t want that.”
“What if I changed my mind?”
“I don’t know what you want me to say -”
“I want you to agree with me!”
“I don’t! And you know why - I…” He reeled his next words in, it seemed. He took a breath and calmed down and tried to speak softer. “You just want to… quit?”
He pulled you closer, like he could tell you were trying to run away.
“We’re so close to figuring everything out. We can’t just give up.”
“I know that.”
“Okay?” You looked away from him and he let you. “That’s why we’re here. That’s why we’re together.”
“Have all of these years together just been a waste, then? If you can’t even entertain the thought of having a life with me other than this?”
You were holding onto him so tight and you didn’t care if it hurt. Keiji had been your one constant for years now - there was no way he was still afraid of committing to you, when he had basically already done so.
But it was like tying down a wild dog. You couldn’t.
“Why didn’t you bring this up sooner? Our goal was never to settle down and have kids some day - it’s not - we’re not like that!”
“Not like what?” you asked. You were completely disheartened, now, dropping the grip you had on him. “Not serious? Not real?”
“Not normal!” he said, loud, and then he laughed, like he thought you were being funny. “I mean - we’ve never even been an actual couple - did you really think we would end up like that?”
“Maybe I did. What’s so wrong with that?”
“You know I don’t want that,” he said. “We aren’t together to have some happy ending - I never wanted that with you.”
And that was it. The last push.
But it was into anger rather than sadness; a rage instead of a broken heart; a free fall instead of a straight plummet.
“You did a great job at acting like it, Keiji.”
He laughed again, and you realized the irony in your words. The fact is that all he ever does is put on an act for other people because lying for money was his job, and you had the heart to believe he’d been real with you.
“I was never acting - obviously you can’t say the same.”
For the first time in your life, you let him have the last word. You were quick to collect some of your things and leave the room with a slamming door, and you stormed to a guest bedroom without a thought in your mind.
You didn’t cry, you didn’t let yourself feel sad. You were angry and annoyed and exhausted - maybe even a little embarrassed. And that anger kept you distracted, so you latched onto it and let it burn.
-
The next morning, you assumed everyone had already left. When a job was over and everything finally settled, most of the crew found other places to go - because they had money to spend. So you weren’t expecting to interact with anyone.
But Yachi was waiting in the hallway, still in her pajamas.
“Finally! I’ve been waiting forever for you to wake up. What took so long?”
“Don’t ask.”
“Fine. Gosh.”
“What do you want?”
“Well, I just had a few questions.”
You walked to the bathroom and she followed you into it. She closed the door behind her and then hopped up onto the counter next to the sink.
“Now that I have my money back I need to figure out what to do with it. I think I should get some new clothes, but mostly I just want to find some good food - what are the best restaurants around here, by the way? Honestly, I think you owe me lunch for the last few days. It’s the least you could do to make me feel part of the team.”
Out of nowhere, the door opened. Keiji was standing behind it.
“Can you knock?!” you immediately said, making him scoff.
“Can you learn to lock the door?”
You slammed the door in his face, and it made you feel marginally better. Then you looked over to Yachi, remembering her existence, and opened it again.
“Can I get some privacy? Please?”
“Yeah,” she said, stumbling over her words to land on her feet. “We’ll catch up later, I guess.”
You hoped later never came.
And instead of a peaceful, empty home, you were met with a full house of expectants, because you had already promised them more work to do.
“I thought you liked to get an early start.” It was Keiji, and he was talking like he wanted to start a fight. “It’s noon.”
“You could have started the meeting without me. You have all the information I do.”
“This one was your idea.”
“They’re all my ideas,” you said.
You pushed by him and went into the living room where everyone was waiting for you.
The only silver lining was seeing Ms. Kim, who had finally arrived sometime last night. She sat on the couch with a giant ball of yarn next to her, and the makings of a blue scarf sat on her lap as she knitted away. Her straight hair was shorter than it was a few weeks ago, and she had new glasses that sat on the tip of her nose, but she had the same familiarly grumpy look that always made you smile.
If you were honest, you didn’t even know what you were supposed to be talking about with them. Keiji always helped you get things in order, line up plans, and work out the tempo of meetings like these.
“Do you have the layout of the bar?” you asked him.
He was just sitting down on the couch when you looked at him. “No,” he said, arms crossed.
“Why not?”
“You didn’t tell me to get it.”
“I shouldn’t have to tell you. Did you do nothing? Where’s the list of the employees?”
“Do you think I’m your assistant? Do you think I spend twenty-four hours a day doing shit for you?”
“Am I supposed to do it all on my own?”
“It’s not that difficult, I’m sure you’d figure it out if you put in some effort. But it might take a few tries.”
“Fine,” you said. You looked around the table in front of you to see empty folders and blank papers. “Since Akaashi didn’t do his job we’ll just have to delay this a few days. And everyone can thank him for that.”
“Just because you say it’s my fault doesn’t mean it’s true. You haven’t figured that out already?”
“Since you don’t want to help I’ll just go ahead and cross you off the list of team members needed for this job - does that work for you?”
“Sounds great,” he said. “It sounds wonderful, actually - I can’t wait to see you try to do something all on your own.”
“And I can’t wait to stop hearing your voice!”
Both of you stormed out of the room at that, and slamming doors were heard on opposite sides of the house.
The silence in the living room was deafening.
“Did something… happen?” Yachi eventually asked among the group.
Ms. Kim was the first one to speak up, “They used to act this way… Must’ve had a fight.”
That made Kudo perk up with a gravelly laugh, “Oh, a lover’s quarrel.”
Honestly, Yachi couldn’t believe it. She had never seen the two of you act any way other than repulsively in love. She would have thought you had never fought before - everything seemed just perfect between the two of you.
But she was immediately interested in knowing about your past. No one had told her anything about how they got started, or what kind of work they did before now, and she was dying to know something.
“What do you mean? They used to argue a lot?”
“Ha - you could say that.”
“They were unbearable,” Bokuto said. “More unbearable than they are now, if you could believe it…”
“I don’t,” Yachi said. “Tell me about it.”
Her request was directed at Ms. Kim who did nothing but blink at her.
“Can’t you ask someone else? I’m not a storyteller!”
“Come on, Kim,” Kudo said, “we all know you love reminiscing on the good old days. Tell the newbie all about it.”
“Five years ago aren’t the good old days,” she said. “Fine. I’ll give you the quick version and spare the details. Don’t get comfortable.”
... ... ...

the day had started off normal enough.
kenma had wrapped up a company-wide conference, tweeted a livestream announcement for eight p.m. that night, finished his homework at the office, and signed off on another product to be released all within a span of three hours hours. with the rest of his schedule free, he could go home, kick back, and relax until it was time to play misfiction. maybe he could make some more progress on animal crossing? or finally crack open pokemon legends: arceus?
that second one sounded like a better idea, kenma decided. he wasn't ashamed to admit that he had a crush on adamant AND iridia.
once he was back in the house, he chucked off his suit jacket and loosened his tie. being CEO of your own company, thought kenma, was entirely useless if you couldn't even wear a hoodie and sweatpants to all the important meetings.
he threw his bedroom door open and froze.
kuroo was lying on the bed, shirtless, with a head propped up on one hand. it was probably supposed to be seductive, but kenma had no idea why.
after all, everyone knew how much he was mean to kuroo. it was his number one character trait!
"hi, kitten," kuroo purred. "miss me?"
"kuro," kenma said, exasperated. "what are you doing?"
kuroo's smile faded. "did you not like it? i thought maybe if i gave you a cute nickname, you'd want to get back together."
kenma stared at him. "what?"
"kitten, didn't you hear?" kuroo's eyes filled with tears. "we can't be in a relationship anymore. childhood-friends-to-lovers is incest now!"
kenma scoffed. "as if i'd ever want to be lovers with you. i have hinata instead. he's so much more interesting, but once i get tired of him then i'll just ditch him and get a new boytoy to mess around with."
the bedroom door suddenly burst open. it was . . . oikawa tooru!
"how dare you!" he screeched. "shouyou deserves so much more! he and i spent a very passionate night together in rio, you know! it's all people ever talk about when they they think of us in brazil! there's absolutely no other meaning to it than just us hooking up!"
"whatever," kenma said, rolling his eyes. "i don't care as long as he's making me money."
"now, now," sugawara crooned (where did he even come from? hell if i know). "let's not fight. that is my innocent angel sweet summer child you're talking about, after all, i'm basically his mom - "
("i'm twenty-two!" shouted hinata from where i stuffed him in the margins. "and you know my mother is very much alive, sugawara-san! also, i FUCK! I FUCK HARD!!")
" - so naturally i know what's best for him!" sugawara continued. "and what he would want is for everyone to hold hands and get along. agreed?"
daichi grinned and nuzzled sugawara's cheek. "you're so smart! i can't wait to start a happy, cisgender-conforming, nuclear family with you."
a voice called from the hallway: "HEY HEY HEY!"
the bedroom door flew open again! how in the world has it not been broken yet???
bokuto cartwheeled into the room and puffed out his chest. when he saw that nobody was paying attention to him because they were too busy hissing at each other, he pouted.
"guys, come on!" he complained. "no fighting! let's have some fun instead!"
"it's no use, bokuto-san," akaashi said. "stereotypically-feminine traits such as being petty, catty, and more have been greatly exaggerated in us setters because we have been deemed more feminine due to what i assume is a vast and complex myriad of factors stemming from microaggressions intersecting with fans' understandings of the world amongst other things, but i expect you are too dumb to understand any of that."
bokuto stared blankly at akaashi. "huh?"
akaashi heaved a deep sigh, plagued by the burden of being the only one with brains in the relationship. "never mind. i still love you, and that's all you need to know."
"okay!" bokuto said cheerfully.
suddenly the bedroom door flew open for the third time that day! who even keeps closing it?
"i'm looking for hinata," said kageyama, poking his head past the doorframe. "has anyone seen him?"
immediately, everyone froze. their eyes shifted from kageyama to oikawa, who had swelled up with incandescent rage because he still retained everything from when he was fourteen and hadn't gone through any growth whatsoever since then.
atsumu whistled. "aw, geez. we might argue a lot, but at least we're not anythin' like that, right, omi-omi?"
"shut up and don't call me that," sakusa muttered darkly. "i hate you. i hate everyone. i hate being here. when was the last time anyone vacuumed in here?"
"if you hate it so much," atsumu said, smirking, "we could sneak away and make out somewhere. could even . . . you know . . . "
"why."
atsumu shrugged. "i am an inexplicably horny sex-on-legs bastard, apparently. especially with you. i mean, have you seen our ao3 tag?"
sakusa frowned. "we've barely had any canon time together."
"eh, people have worked with less." atsumu grinned. "'sides, i dig the whole enemies-to-lovers thing. just means you couldn't resist my charms, huh?"
sakusa would have responded with an audible gag, but . . . you guessed it! the bedroom door flew open AGAIN! this is a bedroom door that defies the laws of physics itself!
yachi stepped in and glanced around.
"weird," she said. "why is this bedroom so big? what are all of you doing?"
yachi hitoka, everyone. our only saving grace. she carries the sole brain cell and wrangles the childish dumb men, because they can't ever think for themselves. right? right?????
tsukishima scowled as he followed after her, trailed by yamaguchi. "ugh. do we have to be here?"
"tsukishima!" yachi scolded, swatting his arm. "be nice! you know these are all our friends!"
sigh.
yamaguchi didn't even greet anyone. he just stayed behind tsukki the whole time, looking like a mouse cornered in a city of cats.
suddenly, a BAM! made everyone jump! you have got to be kidding me! the bedroom door agai - oh, never mind! someone just kicked open the closet door!
"SHITTYKAWA!" iwaizumi roared. "get over here!"
oikawa''s eyes widened. "iwa-chan! what are you doing here?"
"looking for you, dumbass," iwaizumi snapped. "you haven't been taking care of yourself! but i'd never say it, because i'm an asshole. i'm a rock wall. i'm a hardened tough guy. i'm mean. i don't ever say or do anything nice. i throw volleyballs at your head for fun. i don't care about you at all. got it?"
("so you're saying he literally just came out of the closet for oikawa - " hinata began, before i shoved him back down into the margins.)
"no wonder i'm such an asshole," kindaichi marveled. "i guess i learned it all from iwaizumi-san! wow, he's a great role model."
being a stressed fourteen-year-old who didn't know how to handle another stressed fourteen-year-old that was causing said stress and eventually snapping from it and making a mistake, as people are prone to do, didn't really make you an asshole for the rest of your life, but hey. kindaichi didn't have to know any of that.
"it's getting kind of crowded in here, don't you think?" yachi asked, ever the voice of reason. "maybe we should get out and get some fresh air?"
ushijima nodded solemnly. wait - had he always been there?
"fresh air is good for the soul," he said. "not that i would know, because i'm an unfeeling robot who is strong and dominant and the epitome of masculinity. being stoic and silent are the only things i know. you should all bow down before my superior strength."
everyone stared at him.
suddenly, the bedroom door burst open AGAIN! this shouldn't be possible! it was already open in the first place! I KEPT IT OPEN! HOW DO THEY KEEP DOING THIS?
"guys!" hinata ran in, panting. "i finally did it! i escaped the margins!"
"the what?" sugawara asked.
hinata waved him off. "never mind that. it's about time to wrap up. we've put on a good show, but we should end it, don't you think?"
"hinata's right," kenma admitted. "i didn't think i could do this much longer, anyways."
oikawa made a face. "me neither. sorry, tobio. i hope you didn't take anything to heart."
"i'm okay," kageyama said. "i know better, now. we both know better."
"that we do," oikawa agreed warmly. "and weren't you looking for hinata? that's why you were here, right? you were the only one of us not part of an act."
kageyama blinked, as if he had forgotten all about that. not that anyone could blame him - i'm not even sure what the hell just happened.
"right," he said, then grabbed hinata's arm and tugged him close. "hey. i love you."
"what!" hinata squawked. "kageyama, what - "
kageyama shrugged, but red began to bloom across his cheeks. "i'd never joke about that. i just wanted you to know."
hinata beamed at him, brighter than the sun. "aw, kageyama! i love you too! but can we please wrap this up? there's no food in the margins, and i'm starving!"
"okay, everyone!" bokuto called out. "on the count of three! ready? one, two, three - "
"HAPPY APRIL FOOL'S DAY!" everyone shouted.
the end :)

Tooru Oikawa
👑 His daughter was 3 years old when the woman came forward claiming that he was the father of her child. You hadn’t been together very long but you knew what he was like before he met you so you urged him to get a paternity test instead of ignoring it. 👑 Obviously he was the father, he had no idea what to do with a kid and for a while toyed with the idea of just sending money to the woman, so he would never have to figure it out. You weren’t having it. 👑 After setting up a meeting with the two it was easy to see that the two were related and from there on shared custody was agreed on. 👑 You had been helping look after the little girl for 13 years and she did consider you as much her mum as her actual mother, however your relationship came with a very easy way to hurt you and just like her father she was smart enough to use it when she was angry.
Tamiko Oikawa was very much like her father when he was in school, she was popular and followed around by those vying for her attention but unfortunately there was something that she took to that her father was never really fond of and that was parties. Every time there was one she tried to sneak out to join it.
Tonight was no different however tonight Tooru wasn’t actually home, he’d gone out to meet up with some of his teammates leaving you at home with his daughter, you were sitting in the living room when she jogged down the stairs “where are you going?” You asked. “Meeting with some friends.” She answered as she walked towards the door. “Not at 10pm you're not.” You said as you looked over the back of the sofa to lock eyes with her. “I’ll be back before Dad even gets home, I promise.” She pleaded. “Nope.” You answered with a smile as you walked over to the door, she tried to get there before you but she just wasn’t fast enough with the heels that she had decided to put on. “Get out of the way.” She ordered. “Not when you're talking to me like that, you're going to need to go upstairs, get changed and hide that outfit from your father if you actually want to keep it.” You warned her. “What do you care, you're not even my real mum, get out of the way!” She ordered knocking you out of the way and opening the door where Tooru was standing about to open it. “Where are you going?” Tooru asked, knowing that she had been caught she just whined (which reminded you of her father) as she turned and walked away from you both. “Are you okay?” “I’m fine.” You answered as you walked into the kitchen, Tooru followed after you. “I’ll be back in a second, I’m going to go and talk to her.” He said softly as he pressed a kiss to the side of your head.
Tooru knocked on the door opening it, his face was hard and unreadable “What?” Tamiko asked. “You need to apologize.” He said. “For what? Telling the truth, she’s not my mum.” She retorted. “I’m going to pretend that you didn’t say that because that woman downstairs is the only reason that you have a life like you do.” He answered. “Yeah sure.” Tamiko rolled her eyes as she looked away from him. “She was the one that told me that I should get the paternity test and then when we found out that you were my child she told me that she’d leave me if I abandoned you.” Tooru said “I’m going to go back downstairs and make sure that she’s okay and you should think about how you're going to apologize.” “What if she doesn’t forgive me?” She asked as Tooru reached the door and he looked back at her. “She’s more forgiving than you give her credit for.” Tooru answered before walking out and closing the door.
When he got back downstairs you were laying on the sofa with a bag of frozen peas on your hip and your arm over your eyes. He frowned as he walked over lacing his fingers with yours he moved your arm from your eyes and could see that you had been crying, his eyes then moved to your hip gently removing the bag and lifting your shirt to see the bruise forming there. He leaned down wrapping his arm around your waist lifting you so that you were sitting in his lap “I’m sorry I wasn’t here.” He said softly. “Don’t worry you can’t be here all the time, she’ll get over it, she’s just going through a phase, she’s 16.” You mumbled relaxing into him. “You're still defending her, even after you were hurt.” He sighed. “She didn’t hurt me, I just hit my hip when she shoved me, that's all.” You explained. “Come on, let’s get you upstairs, it’s time for you to get some rest my love.” He said softly as he easily lifted you and carried you up to bed completely forgetting about the peas.
The next morning you woke up before Tooru, you headed downstairs, your hip still hurting a little as you walked into the kitchen, shocked to see Tamiko cooking in the kitchen “what you doing up so early?” You asked. “I wanted to apologize for everything that happened yesterday.” She answered as she turned to you “I didn’t mean what I said, I’m sorry.” “It’s okay,” You dismissed her and she turned and shook her head. “Dad told me everything that you did when you both found out about me and I shouldn’t have said or done anything that I did yesterday, so sit down and let me make you breakfast please.” She pleaded. “You better do it quickly otherwise your Dad is going to come down those stairs whining about how you don’t ever make him breakfast.” You teased and she glanced at the stairs. “Right.” She nodded before turning back to the stove to get to work.

Issei Matsukawa
😪 Issei had Ichiro before you started dating him, he told you that he had a son and you were obviously okay with it, he was 10 when Issei introduced you and you seemed to get on well with you. 😪 Ichiro was just like his Dad, lazy and forgetful, you were often picking up after both of them on a daily basis. 😪 For a little while there was some trouble with his biological mum who didn’t want you anywhere near her child for some reason but after Ichiro chose to have you in his life that was the end of it. 😪 You were always there when he needed you and you made sure that he had everything that he needed but there were still times when you clashed and today was one of those days.
You had just finished cleaning the house when Ichiro came home, he flung his bag and jacket on the chair next to him before turning on the game console in the living room “Ichiro how was your day?” You asked, he smiled as he looked over at you and smiled. “It was good, I signed up for the volleyball club at school.” He answered and you smiled leaning against the door frame. “When does practice start?” You asked. “Probably next week, as long as I get on the team.” He shrugged. “Your Dad was on the team, you’ll definitely be able to get on it.” You assured him “make sure you hang up your coat and bag before dinner please.” “Yeah sure.” He answered as you walked back into the kitchen to finish the dinner.
“Ichiro!” You called when you finished cooking, there was no reply and you frowned, you walked into the living room and saw that he was still sitting on the sofa. “Ichiro…” Still no answer, you moved so that you were standing in front of the TV. “Hey move!” He said as he tried to lean around you. “I was talking to you.” You informed him. “And I was ignoring you.” He answered as he continued to play the game. “Any particular reason?” You asked. “Because I just want to finish this level.” He answered. “That doesn’t explain why you can’t answer me.” You said over the noise of his character dying. “You're annoying… God I hate you sometimes.” He mumbled as you stepped to the side, you knew that he didn’t mean it, he probably didn’t even realize what he said but you still left for the kitchen plating up food for the boys before going up to your bedroom deciding to give him some space.
30 minutes later Mattsun came in, he saw his son in the living room and assumed that he had missed dinner until he walked into the kitchen where the food was still on the table, he checked the temperature and noticed that it was getting cold “Ichi where’s (Y/N)?” He asked but when he received no answer he walked into the living room and unplugged the TV. “I’m talking to you.” “What?” He asked. “Where’s (Y/N)?” Mattsun asked. “I don’t know.” He answered with a shrug. “Last time I saw her she was calling me for dinner.” “Which you haven’t eaten.” He reminded him and he shrugged. “What’s going on?” “I… You have to promise not to be mad.” Ichiro finally started to look nervous . “What happened?” Mattsun asked. “I said something that I shouldn’t have and I need to apologize.” He answered. “Mmm.” He hummed “you do because we aren’t eating until
You heard a knock at the bedroom door and frowned “come in.” You called and were greeted with a very nervous looking Ichiro. You smiled at him “you enjoy dinner?” “What?” He asked. “Dinner, I left it in the kitchen.” You answered. “Oh I know, we haven’t eaten yet.” He said. “We? Your Dad’s home?” You asked. “Yeah.” He nodded. “Why aren’t you angry?” “Angry?” You asked. “About what I said.” He narrowed down the question and you looked at him and smiled. “Did you mean it?” You asked and he shook his head “what’d you come up here for?” “To apologize.” He answered. “Then what is there to be angry about, you said something you didn’t mean but you knew that it could have hurt my feelings so you apologized, nothing to be angry about.” You smiled as you opened your arms to him, he smiled walking over and hugging you. “Thanks mum.” He smiled and you squeezed him before turning him to the door. “Go wash up, I'll go and reheat everything so you can eat.” You informed him.
When you got into the kitchen you were greeted by the sight of your boyfriend reheating everything and setting an extra plate for you. “I assume he apologized.” He said and you looked at him and smiled. “Don’t be mad at him, teenagers say things that they don’t mean all the time, plus there’s some news he needs to tell you.” You said as you walked over and kissed his cheek before taking the plate from him and placing it on the table, he grabbed you around the waist when the plate was safely on the table and pulled you back to him pressing a kiss to your shoulder. “You're too good for us.” He mumbled. “I love you both and I don’t want anything else.” You said pressing a kiss to the underside of his jaw “come on it’s time to eat.”

Hajime Iwaizumi
💪 Hajime had been happy in a relationship before his daughter was born, unfortunately due to complications in childbirth, the mother of his child died and he was left to raise a child on his own. 💪 You were his best friend at the time, you helped him as best that you could, you knew a little bit more about raising a child, you helped him every step of the way, you were there when he needed you. 💪 Hajime noticed that he may like you more than he realized when people started mistaking you for Hikari’s mum. He struggled with the idea that he was betraying his now deceased girlfriend but ultimately you both started dating. 💪 By now you were married, it was time for prom and that meant that it was time to buy a dress, Hajime had given you his card because he couldn’t be there and told you both to have fun.
The shopping trip started well, you laughed and joked around, you closed your eyes as she picked what dresses she took into the changing room and the first few dresses were hard to pick between but then she came out in a dress you knew Haji would kill you for letting her purchase so you shook your head. “I can’t let you have that one, your Dad would kill me.” “We don’t have to tell him.” She smiled. “How do you plan on hiding that?” You asked “we’re buying the dress with his card.” “We just get two, maybe you could buy this one and we get another one of Dad’s cards.” She suggested and you looked at her. “I think you can guess what I’m going to say Hikari.” You informed her and she looked at you and rolled her eyes. “You're no fun, I wish that my real mum was here instead of you.” She glared at you and you cleared your throat looking at the attendant. “Can you keep the rest of the dresses in the changing room aside, she’ll be back tomorrow with her Dad to make the final choice.” You requested as she looked at you and for a second you could see that she wanted to ask you something but instead nodded.
Hikari went upstairs without saying anything and you collapsed onto the sofa, you were only there for a second before you made yourself busy with tidying and making food but by the time that you were finished, you couldn’t deny the fact that what she had said got to you, you walked back into the living room and laid on the sofa and you don’t even know when you started crying, you noticed your phone light up and saw that Hajime was on his way home and decided to take a shower and wash your face, you didn’t want him to be angry at Hikari if they were going to go shopping tomorrow. By the time he got home you were washing up used bowls (Hikari had come down for food while you were in the shower), he wrapped his arms around you resting his chin on your shoulder. “Did she choose a dress?” He asked. “Oh no, she couldn't choose one so I suggested you go back with her tomorrow and you can give her your opinion too.” You lied as you put the last down on the draining board, he kissed your shoulder and smiled. “I’m going to go and shower and then I’ll eat, is she upstairs?” He asked. “I hope so.” You forced a smile as he jogged up the stairs, you picked up his work bag and put all the clothes in the washing machine before going back to the living room where you almost ended up falling asleep, you heard shuffling behind you and glanced back to see Hikari standing by the door “what’s wrong?” “I shouldn’t have said what I said before.” She mumbled “you didn’t even tell him.” “Is that what you were worried about?” You asked. “I didn’t mean it.” She answered as she walked towards you sitting next to you. “You know it’s okay to feel that way though right?” You asked. “To miss your mum and want her to be here.” “That’s the thing, I’ve never felt that way because I’ve always had you.” She answered honestly and you smiled at her and leaned over pressing a kiss to the side of her head. “Well it doesn't matter how much you apologize to me, you're going shopping with your Dad tomorrow.” You smiled as you heard him jogging down the stairs. “What are you talking about?” He asked. “Your shopping trip tomorrow.” You answered as you moved to create some space for him after he got his food.
The following day you saw them both off and then went grocery shopping, cleaned the house and then cooked for them when they got home, you all ate food and Hikari showed you the dress that she got and requested that you help with her hair and make up because Hajime had shown her pictures from your prom. Hikari told you that she was going to bed. “The attendant said something to me while we were there today.” Hajime said softly as he gently run his hand up and down your arm. “What’s that?” You asked as you looked at him, your head rested on his chest. “She told me about what Hikari said.” He answered, lacing his fingers with yours. “Oh that.” You sighed. “Why didn’t you tell me?” He asked. “I didn’t want you to be angry at her today, and then she apologized and we talked so I didn’t think it was worth anything.” You answered. “You’ll tell me next time, if something happens right?” He asked. “If I need you I’ll call you.” You promised. “You better.” He ordered pulling you closer and pressing a kiss to your lips before he started looking for something to watch.

Takahiro Hanamaki
😁 Hanamaki made a mistake, one that resulted in the birth of his son Toshiro. He had been out with his friends one night when you were both on a break after a rather nasty fight and he was super drunk. 😁 He told you literally hours after when he showed up drunk and banging on the front door, he was panicking and don’t get me wrong you were angry but under the circumstances you weren’t actually dating. 😁 The next morning he made sure that you knew, he didn’t want anyone else, he was sure of it and he’d do anything to prove it to you. Based on how drunk he was when he knocked on your door, you were 99.9% sure that someone was going to be knocking on your door in 9 months. 😁 You were right, but when she saw that you were together, she decided that she didn’t want to be a mum and left the baby with you. When Hanamaki came home to find you with a baby in your arms he was confused but it was a welcome sight all the same.
In the years that followed you took to being a mum really well and he was left stunned at how well you coped considering he was constantly between jobs and you had a full time job before the baby came. You had found a way to make working from home a viable option and you raised Toshiro as best that you could.
Toshiro never asked about his biological but you never lied to him, you always said that you weren’t the one who brought him into this world and he never asked for more than that until he was 17 years old, you don’t know what made him ask but one day he came home, you were in the kitchen and Hanamaki was in the living room, he walked into the kitchen and sat at the table “What’s up kid?” You asked as you turned to him with a smile. “What happened with Dad and Mum?” He asked. “Your biological Mum?” You asked and he nodded. “What do you want to know?” “Well that happened when she left me here? Did she say anything?” He asked. “Well not really, she kind of just handed you to me and said that your Dad would have to look after him. Hiro wasn’t even here at the time.” You shrugged. “Do you think that I could meet her?” He asked. “I don’t know if that’s a good idea.” You said softly as you sat down at the table. “Why?” He asked. “Maybe you should ask your Dad-” “Why won’t you tell me anything? You want to keep it a secret don’t you?” He accused the ruckus that had caused Takahiro to come in from the living room. “Toshiro, do you want to know why she won’t say anything about what happened between me and your mother?” He asked. “Because-” “Because the reason that me and your mum were together was because I was drunk and angry.” He answered. “Then your mum came 9 months later and left you with us and instead of telling me to get rid of you or leaving me with my new son, she raised you as her own and I wouldn’t have asked for anyone else.” “Whatever.” He mumbled before getting up and leaving the kitchen. “Hey you okay?” Hanamaki approached you. “Go and talk to him, if he wants to try and contact her then you should let him.” You said softly as you stood up. “Yeah I’ll talk to him in a minute, come here.” He said softly, opening his arms for you.
Over the next couple of days it was shaky but Takahiro did give Toshi everything that he needed to find his mum if he wanted to. You were sitting in the living room one day with Toshi came home, he saw you on the sofa and walked straight over to you, the moment that your eyes met you opened your arms for him, he hugged you climbing onto the sofa with you but he was just as tall as his father and fitting onto the sofa was a challenge “what happened?” You asked. “She told me never to come back.” Toshi answered. “I’m sorry.” You said, gently running your hand up and down his back in comfort. “I shouldn’t have bothered.” He mumbled, tightening his grip on you “All I need is you and Dad and I almost messed everything up for someone who didn’t even want me.” “You didn’t mess anything up, I’m not angry at you for wanting to know who your real mum is, I just didn’t want you to get hurt but I promise to always be here no matter what to help you get back up everytime.” You promised. “Thanks but there’s one thing that you got wrong.” He mumbled. “Huh? What’s that?” You asked. “You're my real mum, not her.” He answered.

Kentaro Kyotani (Mad Dog)
💢 To anyone who knew him in school, the fact that he had been a single Dad for a while would be a surprise. 💢 He treated his little girl like a Princess, she got everything that she wanted and there was no one to compete with and then he got an injury and was forced to go to physical therapy where he met you. 💢 You guys hit it off pretty well, and he decided that he wanted to take you out for a date, it was an awkward ask but he got there in the end. 💢 He introduced you to his daughter after a couple of months but seemed to tolerate you but you weren’t sure that she actually liked you.
Ken and you decided to try moving in together after a year of dating and while Ken thought that it was going well, you were going through hell. Kimiko made it her life’s goal to disobey you at every turn. When Ken was home you managed to get along and even have some fun sometimes but that was the only time that it happened and it was taking its toll on you.
You had just gotten back from dragging her out of a party “What were you thinking, do you know how worried I was when you didn’t come home?” You asked. “Worried? Why were you worried, it’s not like your mum or anything…” She waved you off as she walked away “it doesn’t matter because Dad’s always going to choose me.” You didn’t even say anything to her as she went upstairs because the truth was when it came down to it you expected him to choose her.
That was why Ken found you packing a bag when he came home “where are you going?” He asked. “Look this isn’t working, she doesn’t want me here.” You answered as you milled around collecting things that you could fit in your bag. “Wait, let me talk to her.” He pleaded. “It’s been a year, it’s not working, I wish it was because I really like you but we both have to do what is best for her.” You said softly and he walked over his hands coming up to cradle your face as he pressed his forehead to yours. “I’m sorry.” He said softly, finally pressing a kiss to your lips. “It’s no one's fault it just doesn’t work, I’ll arrange a day to come pick up my stuff okay?” You asked. “Do you have somewhere to stay?” He asked. “Yeah I spoke to a friend after we got back.” You answered. “Let me drop you there.” He pleaded as he took your hand and headed out to the car.
It was a couple of weeks later when you came back to get some of the things that you had left you walked through the door and Kimiko was sitting on the stairs “where have you been?” she asked. “Did Ken not tell you?” You asked. “What?” She asked. “He’s been really sad these past couple of days. He hasn't really spoken to me. I was worried because he’s been practicing more and I remember what you said about rest after the injury.” “We decided that it wasn’t going to work.” You answered. “What are you talking about? Dad loves you!” She argued  “and you loved him I thought.” “I do love him but you were right about him always picking you, that is the way that it should be, he should always choose you and you didn’t like me so I have to go.” You explained. “What? You left because you thought that was what I wanted?” She asked. “Is that not what you wanted?” You asked. “I just wanted to make sure that you wouldn’t leave and I really wanted to go to that party.” She answered with a smile on her face at the last admittance. “Can we sort this out with Dad?” “Yeah sure.” You nodded with a smile.
You both drove down to the gym where he was practicing, Ken was in there on his own, it seemed like the rest of his team had left for the afternoon. “That doesn’t look like resting that shoulder.” You called from your place at the door, he turned around almost instantly looking at you. “What are you doing here?” He asked, it was like the first time that you met him. “I spoke to Kimiko today and she told me something.” You informed him and he looked at you and then noticed his daughter behind you. “What?” He asked. “She told me that she was giving me a hard time because she wanted to see if I could be trusted, she told me that she doesn’t hate me.” You smiled. “I was thinking maybe she could move back in if you wanted.” Kimiko suggested “I’ll leave you guys to talk about it, there’s this shop across the street that I wanted to check out.” “Are you coming back?” He asked. “Do you want me back?” You asked. “Please come back.” He pleaded as he mirrored the way that he held your face the night that you decided to leave and you smiled. “Shall we go home then?” You asked. “Let me shower.” He said. “I’ll wait by the car.” You said as he pressed a kiss to your lips and jogged into the changing room, you walked out and saw Kimiko standing by the car and smiled. “What are you doing out here?” You asked “thought there was a shop you wanted to check out.” “I just wanted to give you guys space, I even asked a friend if I could stay over, you guys have the house to yourselves.” She wiggled her eyebrows and you nudged her softly before rolling your eyes. “Stop that and get in the car so we can wait for your Dad.” You ordered unlocking the car for her. “You’ll thank me later.” She smirked as she climbed into the car and waited with you.

Everyone on MSBY knows about Sakusa’s penchant for giving unnecessarily extravagant gifts on his teammates' birthdays. Because of his privileged upbringing and his small circle of friends growing up, Sakusa apparently has zero conception for what constitutes appropriate gifts.
Hinata’s birthday celebration is held at a little izakaya near the gym. The humble, quiet setting is completely at odds, however, with the giant claw machine Kiyoomi wheels in.
“Happy birthday, Hinata,” he grunts as he shoves the machine upright with his shoulder.
“W-what’s that, Omi-san?” Hinata asks.
Sakusa looks at him like he’s the one making no sense. “I asked you what you wanted for your birthday and you said you like arcade games? I asked Komori, and apparently this is the kind of game people play at those arcade places.”
Hinata looks faint. “I meant that we could all go to an arcade, or something! You didn’t need to get me a whole claw machine!”
Sakusa shrugs. “Too late, I already bought it. If you don’t want it, you can sell it, or something.”
Before Bokuto’s birthday, he’d been very careful not to drop any hints whatsoever about his gift of choice. Still, the entire team breathes a sigh of relief when Sakusa arrives at the party absent of any large boxes.
That is, until the time came for them to present their gifts.
After Inunaki gifted Bokuto with a voucher for his favourite sportswear brand, Sakusa clears his throat a little and places a long rectangular box on the table. Bokuto opens it and finds a row of five beautiful, incredibly expensive-looking watches, laid in crushed velvet.
“Uh,” Atsumu finds his voice first. “So are ya gonna make him choose one, or...”
“No? Those are all for him. Bokuto’s always late, so maybe if he has a watch he’ll finally learn to tell the time.” Sakusa’s jibe does little to hide the pleased smile playing at the corner of his lips.
Bokuto, on the other hand, is completely terrified. All the watches are clearly authentic models of some fancy European brand he can’t pronounce, and- oh god, are those diamonds embedded in the watch’s face? Bokuto cannot deal with this level of responsibility. He’s going to be mugged the moment he leaves this place.
Sakusa is still looking at him with an eager sparkle in his eyes though, and no one has the heart to tell him that once again, his gift is completely inappropriate. So Bokuto smiles weakly and thumps Sakusa on the back, and then surreptitiously shoots a panicked text to ask Akaashi to hire a few armed bodyguards to escort him home.
On Meian’s birthday, he decides that enough is enough. For all he appreciates the nanny Sakusa hired to babysit his kids, the sheer amount of money Sakusa is spending on his teammates’ birthdays simply does not sit right with him. More importantly, his teammates are increasingly pressured to match the extravagance of his gifts. Much to Bokuto’s despair, he can no longer give out his signature “free hugs” coupon book for birthdays. Adriah has had to switch from convenience store-bought wine to actual supermarket-bought wine.
“No more buying expensive gifts,” Meian says firmly. Sakusa pouts, and strikingly resembles Meian’s own children.
“We love them, but you know we’ll appreciate anything else you give us just as much, right?”
Sakusa reluctantly agrees, and Meian considers the matter settled.
By Atsumu’s birthday, he and Sakusa have started dating, and Sakusa announces that, as Atsumu’s boyfriend, he will be organising the celebration.
“Are you sure he won’t go overboard?” Barnes mutters worriedly to Meian.
“I talked to him about it,” Meian says dubiously. “It should be fine, right?”
They were proven wrong when the team arrives at Universal Studios Osaka at 10am on Saturday, to find the area completely deserted.
“Omi, are you sure the park isn’t closed today?” Atsumu asks tentatively.
“I should hope so,” Sakusa’s brows furrow. “Seeing as I requested for it.”
The team is suddenly aware that they are, indeed, the only people standing in the park. All the rides are operating and all the food stores are open, but apart from a couple of park attendants welcoming them in, the park is deserted.
“Sakusa-kun,” Meian says sternly. “I thought I said no more expensive gifts.”
Sakusa’s expression is immediately petulant. “You said no more buying expensive gifts. I simply rented the park. Atsumu hates waiting in line for amusement park rides.”
“Oh my god,” Meian thinks he’s about to have an aneurysm. “From now on, no one spends anything more than 3000 yen on birthdays. Understood?”
Sakusa looks mutinous, but nods anyway. Meian sighs, and lets the team loose in the park.
At the end of the day, Sakusa and Atsumu take the kiddy balloon ride to watch the sunset over the amusement park. In the peaceful silence that only comes with the absence of their rowdy team, Sakusa becomes Kiyoomi. Atsumu waits until the balloon is all the way up before venturing a cautious question.
“So,” Atsumu says, trying to focus on something other than how Kiyoomi’s eyes are gorgeous in the last golden rays streaking across the pink sky. “I love all of this, really. But without it- I’ll still like you just as much! I guess what I’m tryna say is- you don’t have to do all this.”
“I know,” Kiyoomi says. He gives one of his rare, precious smiles, and Atsumu tucks it away carefully in a corner of his heart. “But I want to, because I want to show you how much I like- no, love you.”
(Later, when the team asks why Atsumu’s eyes are red and swollen when they get off the ride, Atsumu will blame it on his allergies.)
With all this in mind, it’s understandable that Atsumu goes through something of a crisis when Kiyoomi’s birthday approaches. After all, what do you get the guy who has everything? After exhausting option number 42, Atsumu gives in and decides to call Komori.
He endures Komori’s shrill laughter for a whole minute after he explains his predicament to him. “Dude,” Komori says. “Don’t sweat it. Kiyoomi’s a simple guy, really. In fact, he’d probably hate any kind of extravagant party. In any case, you’re the unlucky bastard dating him. Shouldn’t you know him best?”
Unfortunately, Komori is right. Atsumu is forced to return to the drawing board to come up with something just as thoughtful as anything Kiyoomi gives his teammates on their birthdays.
On the day itself, Atsumu invents a few thinly veiled excuses for Kiyoomi to pick up some items at the supermarket, and enlists the help of Bokuto and Hinata to stall him there for an hour while he begins his preparations.
“... What’s all this?” Kiyoomi stops short in the doorway when he finally returns home at a quarter to seven.
Atsumu stands nervously in the middle of the sea of fairy lights that is their living room. “I was gonna have everyone over, but I knew it would make you stressed out about cleaning up and disinfecting after they left,” Atsumu says. “And I know you like eating at home more than anything. So I got ‘Samu to make some umeboshi onigiri and I rented the DVD for Spirited Away. I know it’s on Netflix, but you like supporting DVD rental shops so I-“
Atsumu is cut off, abruptly, by Kiyoomi crossing the apartment in a few strides and pressing their lips together. When they finally break apart, Kiyoomi rests his forehead against Atsumu’s and looks straight into his eyes. “Atsumu,” he says. “This is better than anything I could have asked for.”
It’s Kiyoomi’s birthday, so why on earth is Atsumu the one on the verge of tears? Kiyoomi laughs when he says as much, and Atsumu thinks, with a stunning degree of coherence, that he is going to marry this man one day.
“So you don’t hate it?” Atsumu asks again, for good measure.
“I love it,” Kiyoomi says emphatically. He presses a line of kisses from the tip of Atsumu’s ear to the base of his neck, and it takes a heroic amount of self control for Atsumu to pull away.
“Good,” Atsumu says, and steps aside to reveal their friends’ faces grinning at them from a laptop screen. “Because our friends are on video call right now, and we have to stop right here unless you want them to watch us, y’know...“
“Get some, Kiyoomi!” Komori’s tiny face hollers from the corner of the screen. Inunaki and Bokuto join in with shrill wolf whistles of their own. “Happy birthday, Omi-san!” Hinata shouts.
“You are all idiots,” Kiyoomi tells them, but his eyes are curved into little crescents so Atsumu knows that despite the quiet, nondescript celebration, he’s succeeded in giving Kiyoomi a birthday as memorable as any gift he’s given his teammates.

Desire lines, part 2
Tumblr media
Kuroo x afab reader
Series synopsis: Against his wishes, Kuroo must hire a personal assistant. You’re not exactly the right person for the job, but it’s a job, and you need the money. Inspired by Robert Macfarlane’s definition of desire lines in landscapes: “paths and tracks made over time by the wishes and feet of walkers, especially those paths that run contrary to design or planning.”
Chapter word count: ~2.4k
Chapter tags & warnings: none afaik
Note: I said this was going to come out on Sunday, but I became obsessed and couldn’t help finishing early. So you get it early.
Series masterlist part 1 | part 3
Tumblr media
2. A foot in the door
Tumblr media
“OH! OH! What about Takata?” Bokuto yells excitedly, “He’s responsible!”
Akaashi immediately shoots him down. “I don’t think Takata would want to quit his stable accounting job to do something like this, Kou.”
“Hmm…” Bokuto knocks his head with his fist. “OH! What about Iwasaki? She just quit as one of the MSBY managers recently and she’s really pretty.”
Akaashi shoots him down again. “Iwasaki quit the manager position because she’s 7 months pregnant and wants to stay at home with the baby after it’s born.”
Bokuto pouts into his drink. “You think of someone then Keiji.”
Akaashi wracks his brain, but, “Sorry Kuroo, I don’t think we know anyone that fits the bill.” He smiles apologetically, “But if we do come up with someone, we’ll definitely let you know.”
“Don’t worry about it.” Kuroo waves him off, “Tell me what you two have been up to?”
And that’s how ten days fly by with no solution in sight.
Two weeks hadn’t felt quite so urgent when he’d asked for suggestions from Akaashi and Bokuto on day one, but now he’d asked everyone around him for help — Kenma, Yaku, Kai, Daichi…even Lev and Tsukishima — and still nobody fitting had materialized.
You’d think it’d be an easy task to find someone who is 1) trustworthy, and 2) looking for an easy job. There must be thousands of people in Tokyo who meet both those criteria, but strangely, none of his friends knew any of them.
Trustworthiness was actually the easier requirement. Pretty much every potential candidate his friends came up with could be trusted to keep the deal secret from Nishida and the office gossips. Surprisingly, the more difficult requirement has been the job itself. Kuroo didn’t understand at first. After all, this would be perfect for someone just out of college, for example, hoping to save up some money while they search for a more permanent position. But, as Daichi reminded him, most of those bright, young college graduates are looking to break into a new field, and that means meeting and working with people in that field, not spending all day at a dead-end position, even if it’s an easy job with a great salary.
With less than four days left until Nishida’s deadline, the panic is starting to bubble up.
Kuroo dunks his head under the water one last time and steps out of the shower. Wrapping a towel loosely around his waist, he pads to the kitchen for his morning coffee — well, noon coffee at this point.
As if on cue, the phone buzzes on the counter as he walks by. He answers without glancing at the screen, using his shoulder to hold the phone against the side of his face. “Hello?”
“Hey, it’s Iwaizumi.”
Kuroo breaks out in a smile. “Hey man, what’s up?”
“I’m in town for a few days. Want to grab coffee?”
Kuroo might be short on time to resolve this whole assistant issue, but then again, tackling the problem head-on hasn’t been working, so maybe some time away to rethink his approach is just what he needs. Anyway, Iwaizumi doesn’t come back to Japan too often these days. “Of course! Where should I meet you?”
“I’ll text you the address. I’m already here talking to a friend so drop by whenever,” Iwaizumi tells him before hanging up.
An hour later, Kuroo steps through the front door of the cafe. He immediately spots a hulking Iwaizumi facing away and talking with someone he doesn’t recognize. Like Iwaizumi, they’re dressed comfortably in blue jeans and a tank top, soaking up the sun spilling in from the huge windows.
Kuroo grins as he walks up behind Iwaizumi, clapping a hand to his shoulder. “Didn’t think you were the type to pick someone up at a cafe, Iwaizumi.”
Iwaizumi whips around, stammering, “I- no- it’s not like that!” Until he registers who it is. “Oh, Kuroo,” he grumbles, thoroughly unamused.
You giggle at the dozen expressions that flitted across Iwa’s face in that split second. Turning to the stranger, you introduce yourself. “I’m pretty sure his partner would have a few things to say about that. Iwa and I are friends from college.”
Kuroo shakes your outstretched hand. “Kuroo Tetsurou. Iwaizumi and I were volleyball rivals in high school.”
You nod to him as you stand up. “Well, volleyball rival Kuroo-san, it’s nice to meet you. And Iwa, I’m glad we got to catch up a little. Let’s chat again soon?”
Iwaizumi’s arm flies out to block your way. “You’re leaving already?”
“Yeah, I don’t want to impose…”
“You’re not imposing. I’m sure Kuroo doesn’t mind.” Iwaizumi doesn’t bother looking to him for confirmation.
Kuroo shrugs, “Up to you.”
“Such enthusiasm,” you deadpan, but sit back down. “You two go on and order then, I’ll guard our table.”
Iwaizumi gets up to keep Kuroo company and you take the chance to look Kuroo over. Standing next to Iwa, Kuroo looks a touch taller than him (even accounting for the messy hair) and less broad, but still clearly athletic. In the warmth of the cafe, he takes off his bomber jacket, revealing the simple long-sleeve shirt he’s wearing over a pair of black jeans. He definitely knows how to highlight his lean frame, well-built arms, and…you should probably stop ogling his ass.
You quickly tear your eyes away when they spin around. (There was a small tussle at the register as they each clamored to pay. Predictably, Iwa won out.) They’re both engrossed in conversation as they walk back to the table, allowing you to bury your face in your coffee with minimal embarrassment.
You watch amused as the two sit down. You’ve only ever seen Hajime like this with Tooru. Perhaps it’s because Kuroo and Tooru have a similar impish energy. You listen to Kuroo push and prod at Iwa playfully, asking after him and tormenting him in the span of a single phrase. Iwa meanwhile endures the teasing like a veteran, snapping back a few of his own gruff retorts that make Kuroo cackle like a madman.
All the while, the conversation weaves in and out of business.
“Well, work has really kept me busy, but I’m doing fine! How long are you in Tokyo this time?”
“Only a week,” Hajime complains, “but I should be back again soon for a few months to set up the new training regimen.”
Kuroo hums into his coffee. “Think I could get you to help with a JVA promotion?”
“You ask me that every time. But sure. How’s Kenma?” Iwaizumi grunts.
Kuroo wipes some condensation off his glass. “Kenma’s fine. He’s had his nose stuck in a new game for a while now.”
Hajime nods. “And your grandparents?”
“Ah, yea, they’re also doing fine.” His voice sounds lighter than before, but you’re probably just imagining it. You look over at Iwaizumi. Or maybe not, because a soft crease forms on Iwa’s brow.
But as you expect, Iwa doesn’t push him. He lets Kuroo lead the conversation back to work and to his current predicament. “After today, I’ve still got three more days to find someone, so my luck’s not entirely run out yet.”
A thoughtful look crosses Iwaizumi's face.
Oh no, he’s not—
“Weren’t you just telling me you were looking for something temporary?” Iwa asks you.
“Uh, well, this isn’t exactly what I had in mind…”
Iwaizumi leans forward, gesturing toward you but addressing Kuroo, “They would be a great asset to the JVA, you know.” Kuroo’s attention swivels to you. “They moved to Japan to get into more literature translation, you know poems, novels, stuff like that, but they’ve got experience with all kinds of Japanese-English translation. We’ve worked together before at post-game interviews and conferences and I’ve always been impressed by their competence and professionalism. Gets along well with the players too. That kind of expertise must be in high demand for an organization like the JVA.”
Turning back to you, Iwa adds, “It sounds like the position doesn’t include many responsibilities, and since you just moved here, this would be a great opportunity to earn some money while you work on getting your foot in the door with the publishers.”
You frown, eyes locked on the empty mug in your hands as if the foamy dregs might form an answer. He’s not wrong, but…
Kuroo eyes you appraisingly. If Iwaizumi is vouching for you, then you’re definitely trustworthy. And he can’t deny that having interpretation experience will come in very handy for the upcoming FIVB meetings, not to mention you definitely sound competent enough to type up some meeting notes. Plus, unlike his other prospects so far, it seems like working as his assistant for now might actually be perfect for your long-term goals…
“Sounds like a great idea!” Kuroo declares.
“…At least give me some time to think about it,” you mutter, intensely aware of their expectant gazes.
“Ok, but let me know by tomorrow night,” Kuroo replies confidently.
Tumblr media
You shove another spoonful of cereal into your mouth, ignoring the milk that sloshes off the spoon and splashes back into the bowl. The texture is awful. The flakes are almost completely soggy and spongy after sitting untouched for the past few minutes.
Your mind is elsewhere.
You’d woken up way too early for a Sunday, mind plagued by Kuroo’s offer since the three of you parted ways yesterday afternoon.
You wash the soggy slime off your tongue with a sip of coffee — instant Nescafe, sadly, though you’re wistful for another latte or even an americano.
Maybe writing things out will help you think it through more clearly. You smooth out a piece of used scratch paper and turn it over to draw a simple cross on the page. On the top left, you write PROS and on the top right CONS.
First.
Under PROS, you write easy job. Kuroo made it clear that you wouldn’t have to do much. Aside from showing up every day and sitting at a desk, the only other thing you’d have to do is attend his meetings and type up meeting notes. Like Iwa said, that theoretically leaves you with a lot of time for your own things.
Sighing, you jot too easy? under CONS. An easy job isn’t bad, but it might end up becoming awkward if other people have different expectations of you than Kuroo does. What if his boss gives you extra responsibilities, or wants you to report to him on Kuroo’s schedule? The problem with this arrangement is that it’s vague and hence unpredictable. It may end up turning into a real, full-time job despite your understanding with Kuroo.
Moving on to the thorniest problem.
You add Kuroo under PROS. He’s undeniably attractive, and if Hajime is friends with him, then he’s probably a pretty good guy and a pretty good boss. Under normal circumstances, you’d be thrilled to have some eye candy around and possibly even a hookup at your fingertips, but—
You reluctantly write Kuroo again under CONS. But Kuroo would be your boss. That makes him 10,000% off limits. God forbid you hook up and things go south as they’re wont to do. You’d not only jeopardize your income, you might also jeopardize Kuroo’s job and his friendship with Iwaizumi.
Finally, by far the biggest pro, and you’d saved it for last.
MONEY. You underline it once. The salary is generous, more than generous. (You pull up your bank account balance for what feels like the hundredth time, hoping you might have read the numbers wrong the last 99 times. Nope, still the same.) You haven’t mentioned your dwindling bank account to anyone, but let’s just say you’re not feeling so optimistic now that you’ve been unemployed for four months. So unless you just happen to land a huge project (technically, anything’s possible) like, today (it’s still the morning, so…), with a big advance upfront (ok, that’s never happening), soon you’re not even going to be able to afford cereal and instant coffee.
Who are you kidding? You underline MONEY two more times in resignation. The longer you wait, the closer you’ll get to the point where you’ll have to take literally anything. There’s no way in hell you can turn this down.
You text Kuroo before you can change your mind.
His reply comes almost instantly: Perfect! You can start tomorrow. The address is…
Tumblr media
Monday morning, you head into the office for the first time, thanking your nerves for setting your alarm too early and leaving the house with time to spare because figuring out the subway transfers during rush hour ended up being more confusing than you anticipated. Even though you left a half hour early, you arrive with only a minute to collect your thoughts as you ride the elevator up to the 38th floor.
A passing employee directs you to Kuroo’s office door. You smooth down your clothes before knocking quietly and waiting for a “come in.”
“You’re here!”
Kuroo steps out from behind his desk with a relieved smile and you thank the gods you spent the rest of yesterday and one full month’s rent investing in nicer officewear as your eyes travel up from his brown leather oxfords, up along his slim navy suit pants, to the matching navy vest cinching his waist, up the rolled-up sleeves of the white-button down shirt, up the gold polka-dot tie topped with a perfect windsor knot, all the way up to his golden eyes. His hair is still an absolute disaster, but it somehow works together, giving him an aura of charm rather than vanity. Yeah, your old, cheap, ill-fitting tops and suit pants would have been an embarrassment.
“Just in time, too. My first meeting today is in 15 minutes.”
He walks toward you, stopping to stand a little ways away as he continues. (Now that he’s closer, you realize the pattern on his tie isn’t polka dots, but tiny paw prints.) He holds out a hand toward toward the empty desk you passed on your way in. “Why don’t you get set up at the desk and I’ll grab you on my way there? After the meeting, I’ll introduce you to Nishida-san and a few other people around the office.”
He's just close enough that the spicy musk of his cologne tickles the edge of your senses. You’ve been here less than a minute and already you’re tempted to pull him in for a deeper lungful.

Oikawa sits on Iwaizumi's bed, watching his phone buzz and light up with the hundreds of messages Suga and Akaashi were sending him even though it was 5AM in Japan (meaning the pair woke up early or never went to bed – Oikawa suspected the latter).
Suga: B*tch, if you don't confess to Iwaizumi in the next day, we are telling him ourselves
Akaashi: You better f*cking confess or I'm throwing out your f*ck sh*t hair products
Suga: We spent a lot of money getting you to California, we expect for it to be worth it.
Oikawa rolls his eyes. He debates replying, re-informing them that it had actually been Akaashi's parents who had bought the ticket since they had used Akaashi's emergency credit card. But, that would only fuel the pair into harassing him even more, so he tucks his in his bag.
Iwaizumi returns to the room, carrying various snacks and a couple bottles of water in his arms. After dumping everything onto the opposite end of the bed from where Oikawa was sitting, Iwaizumi quickly glances at his own phone before placing it on the dresser behind him.
"Your friends are a little annoying."
"They are your friends too, Iwa-chan~"
"They are only my friends because they are your friends. An unfortunate circumstance of the transitive property."
Iwaizumi plops down onto his bed and opens a bag of chips. In the silence, they hear the faint buzz of both their phones going off. Oikawa attempts to shake off the curiosity of what his friends might be texting Iwaizumi by scolding him.
"What a terrible host you are, Iwa-chan~. Not even offering me some chips when you opened the bag."
"Okay, but you don't even like these chips."
"It's a matter of principle," Oikawa teases, turning his body to face his friend.
Iwaizumi rolls his eyes and holds out the bag of chips. "Would you like some chips?"
"No thank you, I don't like them, but I will take that cookie."
Oikawa points to a wrapped chocolate chip cookie in the pile of junk food on Iwaizumi's bed.
"You're an adult, grab it yourself."
Oikawa pouts, crossing him arms and staring at Iwaizumi, who still refuses to budge. Faint buzzing fills the silence once more.
"Iwa-chan?"
Iwaizumi hums, signaling Oikawa to continue. "Do you remember last year when you visited Tokyo?"
Iwaizumi doesn't say anything, but Oikawa can tell he remembers and knows exactly what he is talking about – the kiss they had shared in the kitchen in the middle of the night.
"How would you feel about doing that more often?" Oikawa asks, staring at the pattern in Iwaizumi's comforter.
He hears the rustle of the chip bag and feels Iwaizumi's weight shift on the bed. Before Oikawa can recognize what is happening, Iwaizumi's hand gently grips his chin.
He tugs Oikawa's head up, pulling him in so their lips meet. The kiss is soft, chaste. It reminds Oikawa of finally releasing a long held breath. When they pull apart, they stay close – foreheads touching.
"Just to be clear, I like you and that is why I want to kiss more."
Iwaizumi chuckles, "Yeah, I understood that dumbass." A pause, Oikawa waiting for a returned confession, a pout slowly forming on his lips. "I like you too, Shittykawa."
Oikawa leans forward, kissing Iwaizumi fervently. They continue exchanging kisses for the next hour until they tire and Oikawa settles his head onto Iwaizumi's chest as they cuddle – Iwaizumi's fingers absently playing his with hair. The calm is broken once again by Iwaizumi's phone buzzing on the dresser.
"Do you think you can tell your friends now so they can stop harassing me?"
"Absolutely not," Oikawa says. "They will not be informed until at least a month from now. I need to make them suffer for meddling... Plus, I can't allow them to know they were right – at least not right away."
Iwaizumi sighs. He knows there is no logic when it comes to the trio.

Haikyuu Captain Squad Flashfiction: "Never Have I Ever..."
[all my usual ships apply.]
---
They weren't exactly drunk, per se, but the rules of the game were simple, and designed to change that quickly. The question is asked, "Never Have I Ever..." and then, if you have, you are given the choice of either spilling your guts and telling the story, or taking a shot.
Most of the time, games like this were pretty tame and usually in good fun - Oikawa liked to get under people's skin, but nobody was ever really offended, and from where he was sitting now, lounging back against Iwaizumi and having had not so much as a single shot in him yet, he looked like he was getting bored of the game.
Other people - people who experienced more shame - had taken more drinks. Bokuto is looking especially rough, though in his defence he's just taken a shot due to a "never have I ever broken the law," statement Ushijima had made, accompanied by the Fukurodani alumni's suspicious stare at Daichi. Actually, everyone who "had" that round had taken the shot. Daichi, himself, had taken a shot, and then told everyone they could die mad about it, so who knows what that was about.
Either way, some secrets begin to slip and some stories come out and everyone is laughing and enjoying themselves. "Never have I ever... hooked up with a friend's ex," Tendou says, and there's a tense moment of silence as everyone waits to see who's fessing up and who's taking the shot-
"Okay, okay, fine, you got me," Oikawa says, putting his hands in the air and accidentally whacking Iwaizumi in the face in the process. "Hooked up with doesn't exactly apply but I did make-out with Iwa's middle school girlfriend. But it was like 3 years after they'd broken up and she was hot as shit."
"You're gay," Kuroo says, confused by this justification.
"And she was hot as shit, what do you not understand?"
There's a ripple of laughter from among the group, before Daichi is tapping Suga's side, to remind him that it was his turn to go.
"Oh, right..."
Truthfully, Suga also wasn't doing too bad, but there was something about how unashamedly Oikawa admitted to every goddamn little thing that was pissing him off - he had to take a shot eventually! So, thinking he has an ace up his sleeve, he says:
"Never have I ever had a sex dream about someone else's boyfriend," and waits confidently, expecting Oikawa to raise his hand and also expecting him to not be brave enough to admit it to a group of people he is sure must contain the subject - Suga would put his money on Ushijima, but Kuroo, Bokuto, Akaashi, hell, Suga or Daichi himself even seemed likely candidates.
What he does not expect is for, yes, Oikawa to raise his hand, and then behind him, Iwaizumi to do the same. And then - he watches in abject horror as both Kuroo and Kenma lift a hand, Ushijima and Tendou both raise a hand, and he feels, beside him, Daichi raises his hand.
Everyone is staring at each other in silence. The only group with no skin in this race - Bokuto and Akaashi - are glancing around the circle with nervous eyes. Even Bokuto seems to have grown suddenly very aware of this precipice they've all found each other on. There are a handful of answers that would be fine - If Tendou says it was about Akaashi, for example, everyone would be fine and probably laugh it off. If Iwaizumi says its about Ushijima, a full out slaughter will begin and nobody is leaving alive.
"Holy shit," Suga says, before deciding to whack Daichi in the chest. "Dude!"
He gets only a dumb if not slightly embarassed look in return. Suga would by lying if he said he wasn't burning with curiosity, but before Daichi can make the choice to drink or spill:
"Wait," Ushijima says, hand faltering slightly. "Does the question dictate that you must have had the dream while this person was in an active relationship? Or merely about someone who is now the boyfriend of someone you know?"
"While they were actively dating someone else," Suga says.
Ushjima puts his hand down, which creates another chorus of confused mutters and glances between each other.
Everyone wants to know what everyone else knows, but none of them were willing to start. Sugs is relatively horrified to realize this means they all probably know their own confessions are going to be controversial.
"Well-" Oikawa starts, though even he is looking a little flustered. "Ah, as the game says-"
"Nope!" Akaashi cuts in, leaning forward to start pouring shots. "Everyone is drinking."
"It's up to us on whether or-"
"Everyone is drinking. Everyone drink. Right now."
There's a tone that leaves no room for argument. Akaashi is almost feverishly trying to avoid the otherwise inevitable screaming match this question would result in, handing out shots with force. Or, maybe, he just doesnt want to have to know this information. Or how many of the answers were going to be Bokuto.
With relatively suspicious glances around the circle, everyone who's raised their hand takes a shot.
Suga supposed he's accomplished his goal, but geez, at what cost?

"You've Always Been My Home"
Tumblr media
Having a family of his own had never really occurred to Kenma before. The thought of caring for children was nerve-racking; anxiety-inducing even. They screamed and cried, and they got snot and candy on everything which included gaming systems and Kenma did NOT have the patience to keep that from happening. It wasn't that he disliked dirt and messes, he just didn't want his gaming equipment ruined.
Plus, he wasn't even the parenting type. He spent all his time gaming or working, went to bed at ungodly hours, and didn't do anything that would cause him to unnecessarily use his limited amount of energy.
That, however, changed when Kuroo came back into his life. It'd been three years since he'd seen his best friend, the older male having moved away when he started college. They'd kept in touch via texting and phone calls, but then they'd both gotten busy, and the texts and calls had started happening less and less. So Kuroo showing up at his door with a fourteen-month-old in his arms had been unexpected, to say the least.
They'd needed a place to stay and how could Kenma say no? He had been his best friend after all. Kuroo had told him that he'd tried Akaashi and Bokuto, but they had their hands full with their three kids, two of which were under the age of one.
So they began staying with him, moving into the extra room in his apartment. And weirdly, things were fine, much to Kenma's surprise. The first few days his anxiety had been on high alert, but after seeing how calm and well-behaved Akane was, he'd begun to relax. She did from time to time, reach for his Switch or his Playstation controller, but her hands were never usually sticky or wet with drool when she did, and if they were, Kuroo would stop her and wipe her hands first. He'd tell her "you can't touch those with dirty hands,' and soon she was going up to him when they needed to be wiped.
That had definitely helped Kenma relax even more.
Kuroo promised they would be out of his hair soon, but that had been six months ago. He kept saying the same thing about once a week. He didn't leave. Didn't make a move to do so. Kenma wasn't sure why he was so eager to find a place. It couldn't be too hard for him to find a place, he knew he made good money. He couldn't find himself caring. Kuroo could stay as long as he wanted.
He didn't want to admit it, but he was glad that Kuroo seemed to be putting off leaving. He knew he wouldn't be able to live without him AGAIN. And he and Akane had begun to bond, much to the blond's surprise. They'd shockingly become close, Kenma thinking of her as his own child. Thought of all three of them as a family. He wouldn't be able to live without her either. And he knew if Kuroo moved, things may end up like they had last time; losing touch, never speaking again. So he kept silent.
He kept silent until a month later. Kuroo had given him the same 'promise' once again and Kenma's curiosity had got the better of him. So he asked, "Are you just saying that or do you mean it?" That had come out a lot harsher than he'd meant it and he didn't miss the way Kuroo winced.
"What do you mean?"
"I mean, you've been saying the same thing at least once a week for eight months, but you never make an attempt to leave." Kuroo opened his mouth to respond, but Kenma quickly stopped him by beginning to speak again, "It's not that I don't want you here, I do. I love having you and Akane around, but I just don't know what YOU want. You say one thing, but then do the opposite."
"Have you considered there may be a reason?" At Kenma's blank face, he continued, "I can't stand the thought of losing you again, Kenma. Do you know how miserable I was when we weren't talking? Or that I was so far from you to begin with? Nothing ever felt right without you. Nothing. But now…being here with you, everything just feels right again. Maybe that’s why I keep putting off moving out."
"You were miserable without me?"
"That’s what you focus on? Yes, Kenma, I was miserable without you. Wherever I was I never felt comfortable or happy. The only bit of happiness I felt these past few years was when Akane was born. But everything else? No. None of it made me happy and it was because I wasn't with you."
Kenma gulped, mouth having gone dry. "So…what are you saying?"
"I'm saying I love you Kenma and I've loved you for so fucking long. And I don't want to be without you anymore. I keep putting off moving out because this is my home, you're my home. You've always been my home…"
Kenma didn't even let him say another word. He stepped forward and wrapped his arms around his neck, pulling him down so that he could press his lips to his.
"Then stay. Don't ever leave me again."

hq but make it food truck competition
this is happening because @meloomi is a genius and finally all my useless food network competition show knowledge can be put to use fdhajfhskljfa. it's unedited because i wanted to write this as fast as i could before it left my brain and im lazy. OKAY LET'S GO!!!!!!!!!
KARASUNO
The three that run this food truck are Hinata, Kageyama, and Tanaka.
Saying it's a chaotic truck is an understatement
Nothing gets done, bc Tanaka has to be on the truck with either Kageyama and him cooking and the other taking orders or vice versa
Because if Hinata and Kageyama are on the truck together, it's.... bad. it's a very bad time
Tanaka is also The Oldest, so he is the one who has to make sure everything gets done with his One Brain Cell
If they ask how you like the food, and you INCREDIBLY BRAVELY say that you don't....
Tanaka will just kinda make a face and be like "No, YOU'RE stupid!!"
Hinata will probably cry because he's doing his best
Kageyama will be like "We still have your money, so who's the real loser here?"
NEKOMA
The three that run this food truck are Kuroo, Kenma, and Lev
Let's be real, Lev can't even fit on the truck so he's the one that has to stand outside and take orders
Man literally has to stay seated while taking orders because he's too tall to hear you say it
Kuroo is flirting with everybody he gives an order too (if he thinks you're cute, he'll write his phone number on your dish)
Kenma just wants to go home.
That's it.
But he loves Kuroo too much that that's why he's here.
AOBA JOHSAI
The three that run this truck are Oikawa, Iwaizumi, and Matsukawa
Iwaizumi runs the show, but he stays on the truck always.
Oikawa and Matsukawa always take orders because they can get customers bc they walk by and it's either Pretty Man or Big Man.
They get.... a lot of phone numbers.
Iwaizumi has an especially long stick he uses to stick out the window of the truck and bat Oikawa's head if he starts flirting too much instead of taking orders.
SHIRATORIZAWA
The three that run this truck are Ushijima, Tendou, and Goshiki
I don't even have to tell you that Tendou is the one in charge of taking orders
Ushijima and Goshiki are S I L E N T as they cook on the truck together,
Ushijima is just minding his own business
Goshiki thinks he's fucking up so badly that Ushijima won't talk to him
Tendou has to work triple time to get customers because people take one look at Ushijima in the window and go "Is that man gonna poison me????"
I'm not super familiar with Date Tech having only watched the show one time so far, pls dont hate meeee
FUKURODANI
Fukurodani is the rare truck where there's only two of them competing and it's obviously Bokuto and Akaashi
Bokuto is great at drawing in a crowd
Akaashi is excellent at getting the orders out in a timely manner
They both are very aware of their roles
And maybe that's because Akaashi let Bokuto cook on the truck ONE TIME and the whole fire department had to come...
Bokuto has not touched a cooking utensil since
AND FINALLY
INARIZAKI
we got Aran! we got Atsumu! we got Osamu!
like the Fukurodani truck, Atsumu is allowed to touch LITERALLY NOTHING except a pen and a pad to take orders
If you say you don't want his food, Atsumu will do one of two things:::: Flirt with you excessively to get you to buy the food
Or he will cry when you walk away from him
Osamu and Aran have to make up for Atsumu a lot by offering free samples
Like Kenma, Aran just wants to go home
If he has to hear Osamu and Atsumu argue one more time...
Just...
Let poor Aran go home
And that's it!!! Hope you enjoyed, this was very fun to write! Thank you Mizu my bb!!!!!

We are runnin' so fast that dream again
Akaashi’s pov
If you asked me what I would be doing with my life I would never say oh I am a manga editor honestly I never thought I would be where I am today without the support of one person by my side the whole way. I can't help thinking what would life be like if you know I just vanished and gone somewhere anywhere where no one knows us what if we assumed new identities and just now started our careers as a manga editor and trainer at all I can't help but imagine it hey why don't we what's stopping us no scrap that whose to stop  us I ran to Koshi and some him up “babe wake up I've been thinking”
“About what love,” he asked
“Us just running so far and so fast and we never look back and whatever I lack you make up”
“keiji how long have you been thinking about this”
“Awhile honestly we can do it now before my next deadline and your next training camp lets just run you and me now,” I said to Koshi and I know I must sound crazy to him right now but I don't care I am committed to this “koshi we can go anywhere be anywhere  but here “
We make a really good team
And not everyone sees
We got this crazy chemistry
Between us
Still with Akaashi’s pov
“Babe listen We make a really good team And not everyone sees We got this crazy chemistry Between us” “well that is true and bi have always told you’re my missing link to my chain the other half of my heart we take the world on together rather than apart”. Koshi said to Akaashi
Chapter 2
Koshi pov
“This is the craziest thing we have ever come up with and without any explanation”  I sighed at him  “ this is our life our careers And you just wanna up and leave What about our families what about our friends you know what Keiji jump start the car cause the city’s a bore we can buy E cigarettes t the convenience store making up new clichés on our own little tour lets ride I'm agreeing to do this but I want an explanation along the way".
You don't have to say I love you to say I love you
Forget all the shooting stars and all the silver moons
Akaashi’s PoV
"I will explain everything in the car lets go and about everyone we will phone them when we are settled somewhere"
"Ok Keiji  I'm waiting for that explanation" "Just imagine what our life would be like if we didn't start the band if no one knew us if we were practically nobodies" You don't have to say I love you to say I love you forget all the shooting stars and all the silver moons no more wishing if our life could be different this is chance we could be together properly no more hiding even adopt a kid be a family"just me and you.
We've been making shades of purple out of red and blue
Koshi’s  PoV
"Babe about the adoption thing we don't have to go though all that" "What do you mean" "I'm a carrier which means I can have kids" all our lives we've been making shades of purple out of red and blue no more secrets Sickeningly sweet like honey, don't need money All I need is you All I need is you, you
Akaashi’s PoV
Sickeningly sweet like honey babe don't need money all I need in this moment is you just you that's all I need you.
Chapter 3
Third person
They left their jobs  house and started their Journey to anywhere as Akaashi put it they stopped by cliff to watch the sunset after stopping at the convenience store brought some beers and e cigarettes.
Akaashi’s PoV
Well We try staying up late But we both are light weights when we get off our face, too easy And we take jokes way too far Cause sometimes living's too hard We're like two halves of one heart I can't bare the thought of living with out you. You don't have to say I love you to say I love you
Koshi’s PoV
Like you said Kei you don't have to say I love you to say I love you lets get in the car and drive start our new life just me and you Forget all the shooting stars and all the silver moons you convinced me to run away from the life we had to start a family you made me believe in you so let's drive any where We've been making shades of purple out of red and blue I want to be with the one I love Keiji that has and always will be you Sickeningly sweet like honey a little bit cheesy and we don't need money All I need is you And only you so put you foot down and drive.
Third person
They drove for miles and miles till they ended up in a little town away from Miyagi Japan  to rhode island  or a valley they liked both so they thought they would look at both.
Meanwhile back with some of friends was waking in up or rather Shoyo was waking everyone in the shared house .
Shoyo PoV
"Yams wake up our band practice starts today" Sho yams kags and tsukki have been in a band since school now their in college their band is still together and going strong
"Huh what time is it 4:45 sho it's stupid o'clock wake me up later I love you night" “Tch Tadashi Yamaguchi get your lazy ass out of bed now"
I then knocked on Keiji No chan door
"Onii chan rise and shine"
No answer
"Keiji Ni chan"
I yelled hard this time and the door Swung open to reveal thst Akaashi wasn't there the bed was left as it was the day before
"Bokkun " I yell
What he says back practically irritated now
"Onii chan’s bed hasn't been slept in"
"His probably sleeping with Koshi"
Figuring Bokuto maybe right I went to wake Koshi up
"Mom wake up"
No answer I opened the door and his bed was like Akaashi’s untouched
"Bokkun their not here" what do you mean their not there"
Bokuto came walking up wait they are generally not here we need to phone and inform management.
