Ushijima and Oikawa disappear to have some kind of over dramatic confrontation, just out of earshot of the Shiratorizawa team:
Leon, to Tendou: Are you really not bothered by this? I always figured you'd be the jealous type, but you seem to take whatever this fixation is so well.
Tendou: Eh. Shirabu's got it covered.
Leon: Huh?
Shirabu, snapping a pen in half when Oikawa walks past them to get back to his bus:
Leon:
Shirabu, with ink dripping down his hands: He has a fucking setter what does he need with that one.

*Ushiten meeting with their child's teacher*
Teacher: I know this may be a sensitive subject, but I've noticed some odd behaviour with your daughter, she doesnt socialize as well with the other kids, has some trouble in conversations, struggles when day plans change... it may be worth looking into an assessment for something like autism.
Tendou, looking over to where Ushijima has noticed a poster on the wall about the life cycle of dandelions and has fully checked out of the conversation: At least someone in this household is going to have a diagnosis.

was thinking a lot about the end of S3, where Tendou and Ushijima are stretching and Tendou, in the past tense, tells him that he "will brag about having been best buds back in the day," and I think about what we know about Tendou, and Ushi, and how Tendo had probably never had a best friend before then, had probably fallen into it by accident and found himself swept away by someone with such a resolute simplicity to his friendship-making that even all of Tendou's weird tendencies, offputing jokes or niche interests still made the cut. How Tendo had, probably, looked at the end of his volleyball career as the end of his first and his last best friendship, because Ushijima is overt about wanting to go pro and surely, surely, being his closest friend is a case of convenience, where they are in the same dorms, the same classes, the same gym. When Tendo is no longer standing beside him, someone of Ushijima's disposition will probably just look to whoever is standing there instead. Tendou thinks will complete confidence that they will not keep in touch after graduation, he thinks Ushijima is bound for glory and does not see himself worthy of a position at his side. I wonder if he kept thinking this while they were packing their bags. While Ushijima was celebrating his acceptance into a French school with him, while he was hugging him crushingly tight goodbye in the airport. I wonder if he still thought that it was an inevitable future when Ushijima was calling him after practice and making time for messages despite the time zones. I wonder if there was ever a specific point in which Tendo realizes that it was not some playful joke, that when Ushijima had returned the sentiment and called him his best friend, he had meant it with his whole heart, the same ferocity used to dominant a volleyball court turned into tenacity in the face of a long-distance relationship, a refusal to let go of his first and last best friendship. I wonder if Tendou in high school, who admires Ushijima so much, could ever have convinced himself that that same Ushijima holds so much admiration for him in return that he would fly across the world to meet him in Paris just to tell the world that they were best friends on international television.

i think its a bummer that people got so carried away with the haikyuu mom/dad jokes that everyone missed the absolute hilarity that is the freudian slip of calling your teachers mom even when there is no maternal link there.
Like ABSOLUTELY kageyama has fucked up and said "hey mom," when trying to get Ukai's attention and then just absolutely fucking shouts his question to quickly cover it up and move on.
Tsukishima slipping and accidentally calling Daichi "mum" in mid conversation but just breezing past it, Yamaguchi right beside him trying to figure out where in the psychoanalysis of his best friend that fits.
Kindaichi has absolutely called Oikawa and Iwa and Mattsun and their Coach "mom" by accident in various ways and nobody ever has let him live it down.
Goshiki fucks up and calls Ushijima mum and then is completely incapable of recovering gracefully and just fucking starts hyperventilating in his embarassment. "I am not your mother, Goshiki," Ushijima informs him, 100% genuinely concerned Goshiki thinks he's his mother.
MY POINT is that this is 100% something that just fcking happens for no reason talking to authority figures and its SO FUNNY in the context of people who do not otherwise see each other as a parental figure

third-year Bokuto not even getting the satisfaction of challenging Karasuno in their honour

Featuring the work of two amazing creators: @kings-highway and @decarbry
KingsHighway published this fic, "Floor 4" in which Daichi fights for his life to escape a burning building. I read this scene and was immediately overcome with these visuals and just had to make it a reality.
Every single one of their works is excellent, with no prior knowledge of Haikyuu needed to enjoy the thrilling adventures. Their astounding ability to portray all of their characters so uniquely and authentically human makes every single one of their works captivating. I personally highly recommend Time Enough To Risk It All, but check out all of their works here!
Artwork was completed by the lovely Decarbry. She was a joy to work with and perfectly captured the inspiration I could have never hoped to create on my own. Seeing this come together was like seeing the exact images in my head brought to life in the best way possible.
She was very fast, provided regular updates, and was both professional and kind throughout the process. Her prices are very reasonable and the result was worth every penny! She does gorgeous detailed backgrounds, lively character portraits, and impactful illustrations. Check out her portfolio here!

okay but Alan definitely has a middle name and the definitely never let the twins know what it was, right? Like it's not embarassing or anything but they both became so obsessed with this secret name of his and he just... decides he's taking that shit to his grave.
10 years post timeskip he still gets Atsumu showing up on Christmas like "here's your gift, is it James?" and Alan's like "Ah, I see we've made it to the J's now. thanks for the gift."

Do you trust your Captain? - a trust-fall exercise
---
Suga: Absolutely! Daichi's great, he'd catch any one of us.
*the most boring successful trust fall exercise in the world*
---
Iwaizumi: Mmmm.... Well.... I don't know....
Oikawa: Oh my god Iwachan just fall I'll catch you.
Iwaizumi: .... ngnnnn...
*Genuine shock that Oikawa catches him, like actual, genuine "oh my god you caught me?????"*
---
Tendou: Yeah? Of course? This is such a stupid prompt I mean watch this-
*literally doesn't even look behind him to check and falls way too early, forcing Ushijima to leap across the room to catch him, they both end up on the floor.*
Tendou: See? Easy.
Ushijima: Please do not do that again.
---
Kenma: Yeah? This is so lame. I dont need a trust exercise to prove I trust you.
Kuroo: Just fall, I'll catch you.
Kenma: Yeah I know, which is why it's not an exercise. You should be doing this with Yaku, I don't think he trusts you.
Kuroo: ... hey Yaku-
Yaku: Absolutely not you bastard you'll drop me on purpose.
Kuroo: ... he's not gonna do it. Come on, Kenma, just do it. Karasuno did it just fine I don't want to lose to them.
Kenma: Fine...
*Another extremely boring and predictably successful fall.*
---
Akaashi: It's not that I don't trust Bokuto, just that... well... I don't know, he can be a little...
Bokuto: I'd never let you get hurt! I'll catch you, I promise, no problem at all!
Akaashi: ... okay. I trust you.
*Akaashi goes to fall and Bokuto immediately gets distracted in the .2 seconds he had to be paying attention - Akaashi hits the ground.*
Akaashi:
Bokuto: I am so sorry!!! I promise it won't happen again, let's try again.
Akaashi:
---
Aone:
*Crushes Futakuchi (in his defense, he did catch him)*
---
Terushima: Wait... nobody?
Terushima: Not a single one of you will do this stupid exercise with me???
Hana: I think... I think they're just being precautious, given your tendency to...
Terushima: to what?
Hana: you know, just... you.
Terushima:
---
Kazuma: I'm sorry man, but you literally encourage us to trick the refs I wouldn't trust you with anything.
Daishou: But... but Nekoma did the challenge...
Isumi: Yeah.... sorry...
Kazuma: It's just not gonna work...
Daishou: ...
Mika: I'll trust fall with you...
Daishou:
Daishou: that's very nice but unfortunately I'm not your captain so it won't count.
Mika: Can we do it anyway...?
*The most adorable little trust fall that ends with Daishou giving everyone the middle finger.*
---
Atsumu: Hah! Obviously. Trusting Kita is like being asked if you trust that the sun is going to rise.
Osamu: Yeah that's barely a question. Kita's the ultimate reliable captain.
Aran: Yep. I'd do a trust fall with him.
Atsumu: I wanna go first, though.
Osamu: Oh, well, too bad, I was already here.
Atsumu: I'm the older twin, so I should get first go.
Aran: Well... I've known him longer!
Atsumu: I'm his favourite!
Osamu: You're not even mum's favourite, how could you be his?
Aran: Wait, guys - where is Kita?
Suna: Practice ended ten minutes ago? He left. Probably cleaning the locker room as usual.
Atsumu:
Osamu:
Aran: We should probably go help him.
Osamu: I'm getting the strangest feeling that Kita wouldn't trust fall us.
Suna: You think?

someone write a 'top ten anime villains of all time" fic that focuses on the anime protagonist of your choice (im thinking something classic or well known like Luffy or Naruto or Midoriya) that has to climb the tower and defeat all the villains to save the world or something dumb and dramatic but when they finally get to the top all exhausted and bloodied they just find Oikawa lounging in an empty throne room bouncing a goddamn volleyball off the wall and they're like "wait who tf are you," and after a short conversation the hero realizes that Oikawa is 1) not magical or containing any kind of power; and 2) 18 years old. But the hero KNOWS that the task was "defeat all the villains to save the world" but... if they use their super special power theyve been saving for who they thought was going to be the scariest and most intense fight of their life theyre just going to one hit kill this fucking teen. Like they're not concerned about losing the fight but theyre heroes they have a moral code of some kind right like... this guy is just a guy??? do i have to kill him??? does that make me a bad person??? why is he here??? surely it would be wrong for me to just straight murder this guy??? and they keep trying to argue with him and be like "you MUST have some kind of super power, right? like something to make this a fair fight, come on, lets battle properly" and Oikawa shrugs it off "nah I didn't even make it to nationals, I'm far from superpowered" and the hero is just tearing their hair out like "WHAT DOES THAT MEAN???"

Haikyuu Captain Squad Flashfiction: "Never Have I Ever..."
[all my usual ships apply.]
---
They weren't exactly drunk, per se, but the rules of the game were simple, and designed to change that quickly. The question is asked, "Never Have I Ever..." and then, if you have, you are given the choice of either spilling your guts and telling the story, or taking a shot.
Most of the time, games like this were pretty tame and usually in good fun - Oikawa liked to get under people's skin, but nobody was ever really offended, and from where he was sitting now, lounging back against Iwaizumi and having had not so much as a single shot in him yet, he looked like he was getting bored of the game.
Other people - people who experienced more shame - had taken more drinks. Bokuto is looking especially rough, though in his defence he's just taken a shot due to a "never have I ever broken the law," statement Ushijima had made, accompanied by the Fukurodani alumni's suspicious stare at Daichi. Actually, everyone who "had" that round had taken the shot. Daichi, himself, had taken a shot, and then told everyone they could die mad about it, so who knows what that was about.
Either way, some secrets begin to slip and some stories come out and everyone is laughing and enjoying themselves. "Never have I ever... hooked up with a friend's ex," Tendou says, and there's a tense moment of silence as everyone waits to see who's fessing up and who's taking the shot-
"Okay, okay, fine, you got me," Oikawa says, putting his hands in the air and accidentally whacking Iwaizumi in the face in the process. "Hooked up with doesn't exactly apply but I did make-out with Iwa's middle school girlfriend. But it was like 3 years after they'd broken up and she was hot as shit."
"You're gay," Kuroo says, confused by this justification.
"And she was hot as shit, what do you not understand?"
There's a ripple of laughter from among the group, before Daichi is tapping Suga's side, to remind him that it was his turn to go.
"Oh, right..."
Truthfully, Suga also wasn't doing too bad, but there was something about how unashamedly Oikawa admitted to every goddamn little thing that was pissing him off - he had to take a shot eventually! So, thinking he has an ace up his sleeve, he says:
"Never have I ever had a sex dream about someone else's boyfriend," and waits confidently, expecting Oikawa to raise his hand and also expecting him to not be brave enough to admit it to a group of people he is sure must contain the subject - Suga would put his money on Ushijima, but Kuroo, Bokuto, Akaashi, hell, Suga or Daichi himself even seemed likely candidates.
What he does not expect is for, yes, Oikawa to raise his hand, and then behind him, Iwaizumi to do the same. And then - he watches in abject horror as both Kuroo and Kenma lift a hand, Ushijima and Tendou both raise a hand, and he feels, beside him, Daichi raises his hand.
Everyone is staring at each other in silence. The only group with no skin in this race - Bokuto and Akaashi - are glancing around the circle with nervous eyes. Even Bokuto seems to have grown suddenly very aware of this precipice they've all found each other on. There are a handful of answers that would be fine - If Tendou says it was about Akaashi, for example, everyone would be fine and probably laugh it off. If Iwaizumi says its about Ushijima, a full out slaughter will begin and nobody is leaving alive.
"Holy shit," Suga says, before deciding to whack Daichi in the chest. "Dude!"
He gets only a dumb if not slightly embarassed look in return. Suga would by lying if he said he wasn't burning with curiosity, but before Daichi can make the choice to drink or spill:
"Wait," Ushijima says, hand faltering slightly. "Does the question dictate that you must have had the dream while this person was in an active relationship? Or merely about someone who is now the boyfriend of someone you know?"
"While they were actively dating someone else," Suga says.
Ushjima puts his hand down, which creates another chorus of confused mutters and glances between each other.
Everyone wants to know what everyone else knows, but none of them were willing to start. Sugs is relatively horrified to realize this means they all probably know their own confessions are going to be controversial.
"Well-" Oikawa starts, though even he is looking a little flustered. "Ah, as the game says-"
"Nope!" Akaashi cuts in, leaning forward to start pouring shots. "Everyone is drinking."
"It's up to us on whether or-"
"Everyone is drinking. Everyone drink. Right now."
There's a tone that leaves no room for argument. Akaashi is almost feverishly trying to avoid the otherwise inevitable screaming match this question would result in, handing out shots with force. Or, maybe, he just doesnt want to have to know this information. Or how many of the answers were going to be Bokuto.
With relatively suspicious glances around the circle, everyone who's raised their hand takes a shot.
Suga supposed he's accomplished his goal, but geez, at what cost?

Haikyuu ships ranked by how well I think they'd handle long distance:
1. Ushijima x Tendou. Duel autism "oh I forgot I haven't spoken to you in a week" works out so well. neither of them take it personally, theyre both so busy they dont even notice the time going by. They might not have any other friends but distance and time doesnt matter. Tendou sends a text at 12 in the afternoon and gets Ushijima's heart emoji back at 3am and thats totally normal. Ushijima visits for Valentines day and they fck like rabbits before he flies out again 72 hours later and Tendou forgets to call him for 2 weeks afterwards. They mail gifts back and forth but Ushijima couldnt answer for the life of him if asked what Tendou's schedule was. Everyone else hates how unbothered they are. It doesnt even cross their minds to be jealous or worried.
2. Oikawa x Iwaizumi. They've known each other so long that slipping into a long distance relationship thats literally a 12h difference is so easy. Schedules sync up immediately. Breakfast skype, dinner phone call, facetime movie nights and its basically like neither left. Their only problem is that neither can afford an in-person visit for like 18 months and that gets them down a bit but they compensate with an obscene amount of phone sex. Honestly, after spending all day every day together, this is a goddamn blessing since now they have new stories the other doesnt already know. Iwaizumi is a little on edge whenever Oikawa mentions some new friend he's made but overall they both trust each other.
3. Everyone else, should the situation arise
4. Kageyama x Hinata. Hinata goes to Brazil and Kageyama loses his goddamn mind. They CANNOT sync up their schedules for the life of them. Neither of them are comfortable being flirty over the phone and neither of then can afford to visit each other. They leave so many voicemails begging to arrange a time to call and they ALWAYS assume the other is mad at then when they dont answer texts even tho they should reasonable realize its like 2 am when they sent it for the other person. They make this everyone else's problem. Suga has to block Kageyama's number because he keeps calling to ask if he thinks Hinata has forgotten about him. Hinata hasn't forgotten about him, he's just on the other side of the world crying because he thinks Kageyama hates him for leaving. They're both idiots.

when I wrote Soulmake / Competitive Fake Dating, i tagged "Asexual Asahi" with complete 100% confidence that this was a widely accepted and common headcanon, in the same way many many many people accept that Ushijima is autistic or that Oikawa can speak spanish pre-timeskip and-
it occured to me, like, a couple days ago, that not only is that not the case, but that I have literally zero evidence to support that headcanon and have no idea where it came from let alone why it would have been so prevelant
well anyway, shoutout to my asexual version of Asahi, a headcanon I believed so vehemently that I briefly blacked out the entire fanon for him to make it work.

official fic watch 2k24 if I miss it someone notify me when it drops
Don't hate this for me, but I always imagined Hinata's little sister didn't became the same position as her brother but became a Setter. Cause just like Hinata, sweet little Natsu watched Kageyama play and to her He's her Little Giant.
She of course never told her brother but in secret she always wanted to be that amazing person that gave killer serves and manages to be enough to set to the amazing Ninja Shoyo.
Annnddd. She and Oikawa's nephew(Sorry I forgot his name.), has a cute little volleyball rivalry in junior high like Oikawa and Kageyama. Rivals to lover anybody????
I'm just feeding into my Haikyuu delulu😙
