remember when i said in my post about how bido is unappreciated that id talk about why greed/bido is a good and important ship but thats a whole other post. well This is that post

the first and most important reason that greed/bido is a good ship is very simple and that reason is Bido Was In Love With Greed The Whole Time And Nobody Noticed?????? how come nobody noticed. i mean SOME people noticed but nowhere NEAR enough people noticed

when greed compliments bido for successfully proving that alphonse is just a soul bound to a suit of armor, he blushes and acts very flustered and happy. unfortunately this scene is not animated in either show (bido talking to greed is changed to be over the phone in 03, and in brotherhood the scene just gets skipped, HOWEVER theres a single shot of bidos face in one of greeds flashbacks that shows him blushing and looking directly at the camera. ie at greed)

also in the manga his first thought when the military shut down the nest was to worry about whether greed SPECIFICALLY was okay (i used this page in my other post as well but its important)

and in brotherhood he was shown to have actually followed greed through the sewers during his fight with bradley but could only watch from his hiding place as greed was defeated and taken away; remembering this is what gives him the determination to hitch a ride to central to look for him

did i mention he went all the way to central to find him!!! clinging to a MILITARY TRUCK no less. as a very obvious chimera if he had been found by any of those soldiers it would have been horrible for him and every other time we ever saw bido faced with danger he ran away from it. but he was brave For Greed. he went into the labyrinth under central For Greed, and didnt try to escape until he was convinced greed wasnt there. and when it turned out he WAS there (and had lost his memory and had been trying to kill him) he immediately dropped his guard and walked closer to him because that was greed and he trusted him despite everything that had just happened. in the manga he grabs onto greeds coat as he dies and it is just about the saddest thing ive ever seen in my whole life

and then of course greed starts physically shaking because what he just did was so awful his body knows he fucked up before his mind even remembers Why it was fucked up and he cradles bidos body in his arms and screams. unfortunately if we are to acknowledge bido as the gay icon he was, we also must acknowledge that he was buried

(by all rights bido SHOULD have survived. where is the fanfiction where he survives fullmetal alchemist fandom or are you too busy writing the same royai-gets-married-and-has-babies fic over and over again. actually never mind i greatly prefer that to all the pedophilia. but thats another Other post, that unlike this incredibly niche topic some other people have almost definitely made before me)

the thing about grido is you could make a huge tragic thing about it being unrequited and frankly thats Fair, greed does not seem one to settle down in a relationship and bido likely has a lot of self worth issues that would prevent him from confessing his feelings. but you cannot deny that greed cared about him. he praises him, he pats him on the head (!!)

he COMPLETELY breaks down after he realizes he killed him. bido was so important to greed, as were the rest of the chimeras of course but i think theres a valid argument to be made that bido in particular was special to him. theyve got a few things in common actually that i find interesting:

both like to just chill on roofs??? when greed is in lings body he sometimes just hangs out on top of a roof. bido does this too

they could have hung out on roofs together.......maybe thats why greed likes to be up there. because he hung out with bido on roofs a lot. please consider this possibility

both of them are accidentally rude to children. the same children in fact

greed is like 200 and looks 30 while bido is middle-aged and people think he is a baby for some reason?????

okay this is just straight up a headcanon and has no actual basis in the text or subtext of fma but I Think Bido Is Trans and was cast out by his family in his youth and greed would understand that experience!!!! having left his own terrible family because they wanted him to be someone he wasnt

and then there are the differences:

greed is very outgoing and bido is mostly pretty anxious, though he has outbursts of confidence; that might be because greed being nice to him has built up his self-esteem (the way he calls himself cool/awesome when he escapes from the elrics, directly followed by greed complimenting his skills, really makes me think this is the case)

one is tall and lean........the other...is short and fat....... i know its cliche but let me have this

bido overthinks things. greed is a jock. with their powers combined they can do things at a mostly reasonable pace (as long as bido doesnt just go along with whatever greed wants which is probably most of the time what happens)

bido is outwardly inhuman and weird-looking but is incredibly caring and hard-working and loyal and sweet. greed is the sexiest motherfucker alive but hes literally the personification of a deadly sin and at his core he is technically just a rock made of pain. but below these layers both of them want the exact same thing which is to care about others and be cared for in return

also you know that post about how ships between immortal people and super young adults (or worse, teenagers) are OUT and instead we should have stories about immortal people dating 40-something accountants. bido is the 40-something accountant. except not an accountant. you know what im getting at though hes an Established Adult

and bido DESERVES it, he deserves to be loved by the person he cares about more than anything, he has been through so much and gotten nothing but pain and he needs something good for a change!!! and greed DESERVES someone who will love him with all his heart and make him feel wanted no matter what. just, listen to me okay, they would make each other so happy

so!!! there are MANY reasons this ship is interesting and a million different ways you could go about exploring it and there is just NONE of it out there. for some reason the chimera that gets shipped the most with greed is dolcetto (though ive seen martel as well) and i think that is probably because they are more attractive to people (and also id wager more than a few dollars people simply see a dogman and his boss and go wild for the petplay angle). like you dont see any greed/roa either and thats very telling since roa appears with the other two almost every time and nothing about him is different except hes older and not as. pretty i guess???? in my humble onion hes hotter than either dolcetto or martel but thats neither here nor there

the important thing about bidos relationship to greed is that he might not have been transmuted with an animal with a strong sense of loyalty, but he didnt NEED to be, to be loyal to greed. he loved him entirely because he was human. and in the end he did the most for him out of any of the chimeras. unfortunately it was via dying but through the power of imagination we can collectively ignore that and pretend both he and greed survived, and greed went back to his original sexy, sexy body, and they made out on a roof for several consecutive hours. thats how im coping at least. thank you so much for listening to my unhinged rambling about lizard man who dies of fullmetal alchemist (gay edition)

Gonna put this here instead of on the RP blog since I dont check this as often, but like.

has maybe FNDM considered that Clover’s death is not for Qrow or for his man pain, but has broader meanings and implications?

There has only been a handful of major character deaths in RWBY to this point, and the great majority of them were villains (Roman, Leonardo, Adam, Vernal is in a weird grey area because of her bandit status). The two hero/protag deaths were Penny (who’s death was later undone) and Pyrrha, Clover now joins their ranks.

Lets really look at the situation at large. First, RWBY has been making mistakes left and right. They’ve already proven that their goals have led to tunnel vision and that they dont see the larger picture or the consequences of their actions. This is proven time and time again, and for the most part, not only has RWBY faced 0 (zero) consequences, they’ve gotten exactly what they wanted every time. They’ve gotten rewarded for this behavior even before there were stakes. By rights, RWBY should have seen Argus get wrecked because of their attempt to steal an airship and the subsequent fight that destroyed the mech that was specifically designed to fight the godzilla grimm. But they didnt.

This time around, RWBY has messed up again. They went behind Ironwood’s back. All of them had been around ronwood enough recently to know he was paranoid and suffering from PTSD after the fall of Beacon. And yet, Blake and Yang still went behind his back, disobeyed orders, and didnt even bother to hide their fingerprints.

Actions have consequences.

As far bas as volume 3, Ironwood had given off signals that he was a Might is Right sort of leader with authoritarian leanings. Salem managed to trigger his PTSD so badly that he went full authoritarian military dictator, which he could do since he’d consolidated power in Atlas for years. So naturally, when there was a clear and present challenge to that power, he moved to remove it.

This is what Salem does, she divides. The plan to get all the people of Mantle up to Atlas, and then yeet it up above the Grimm was working. They had time. But remember, Ironwood had Watts’ bag in his office while he made these plans. Salem could listen in on everything and knew exactly what to say to trigger a response. She got what she wanted - Ozpin’s inner circle further divided and fighting amongst each other.

Now Atlas’ greatest soldiers are decimated. The AceOps are defeated with broken auras and their leader is dead. Winter Schnee is out of commission, but that one we can lay on Cinder’s doorstep.

Now that all that background bs is out of the way, time to look at Clover and Qrow. For one thing, you really need to take the shipping goggles off while you look at this scene. And for another, you have to compare and contrast Clover to his foil of Winter Schnee. They get the information at the same time. They both seem to struggle with it. Winter has an emotional conversation about doing what’s right versus doing what you’re told. That conversation never enters Clover’s head. He says later on right before he dies that he would do anything for Ironwood, which is a sentiment that Winter shares.

And yet, Winter gives her sister and her friends a head start in getting away.

Clover insists on arresting Qrow at any cost, even trying manipulation and arresting/subduing him in a fight instead of first going after their other escaped prisoner.

Actions have consequences.

Its really. really important to read body language all through episode 12. Clover’s expression has shut down into a professional mask. He’s not angry at all during that fight, but he is determined to do his job. We know he’s not bad, but he does have to bury personal feelings to follow his orders and get the job done. He’s dissociating so he can get his job as a soldier done. “Why cant you do whats right instead of what you’re told.” Instead of wrestling with his conscience like Winter does, he pushes all that out of his mind.

Furthermore, Tyrian Callows is right there, egging on literally everyone. He also is following his mistress’ orders of sowing division and chaos. He is also a serial killer who likes manipulating and harming his prey. Other people better at meta than me have pointed out how Tyrian has verbally manipulated the shit out of everyone in that plane to start a fight, and on the ground, he was physically manipulating Qrow, purposefully getting into his head so when the obvious consequences happened (someone fucking DIED) it would frame Qrow for it physically, and frame it in Qrow’s mind that he was responsible for this.

All of Qrow’s body language says that he was reluctant to fight. All of Clover’s hesitation before getting involved, the fact that the two of them stopped the fight when Clover’s aura broke... that all indicates that neither of them wanted to do this. But Salem won. Salem managed to create a divide betewen the two of them so deep it was inevitable that Clover died.

But Clover’s death is not for Qrow. Its for us the audience to see that no one is immune from death, not even a popular character that people like and care about. Its for team RWBY because its the first tangible proof that their actions have consequences, and those consequences are sometimes not direct, but have far reaching ripples. The stakes are raised higher than they’ve ever been and RWBY contributed to that.

In conclusion, episode 12 was not about Shocking the Audience with a graphic death, or Burying the Gays, or Out of Character. Its a complex scene that really gets to the heart of this season’s theme: there’s a war on and no one has a good solution, but a lack of proper communication or cooperative/collaborative spirit will lead to people getting killed and Salem winning the fight. Also, maybe find a less obvious way of subverting the baby dictator.

you know what i could go for?? [late night ramble journey ahead // i did not re-read this so who knows!!]

an in-depth fic about klaus’s ten months in vietnam.. but with ben there. klaus getting pants and a gun shoved at him and ben is just as confused and freaked out. klaus finding out where they are, or ben finding out and telling him. klaus meeting dave and ben is sitting next to him, side eyeing dave because who is this soldier and why did he come all the way from the back of the bus to introduce himself. ben sees it / can tell when klaus shoves the briefcase under their seat right after and ben’s just like ‘are you fucking kidding me??’ and of course klaus would make stupid decisions because of an attractive man with a sweet smile. so he’s exasperated but also concerned because it’s 1968 and people like klaus are treated even worse now than they are in 2019, way worse, and all of these men are probably straight - dave included. and if any of them are gay they’re not gonna say anything let alone act on it. it wouldn’t be worth it. klaus could get himself hurt or killed just for being himself, if he acts too.. well.. himself after that he stays by klaus’s side more than he did in their own time, which is really saying something. offers advice and wisdom like he always has. he warns him about snipers and mines and bullets and in turn klaus warns his squad. ben can’t lie - it feels pretty fucking good to be responsible for saving lives without having to take any. he still wishes klaus would just try the briefcase, he has it, but at some point he stops pushing. because he does think klaus needs to go back and soon but everytime he brings it up klaus gets defensive and angry - he can do what he wants. he has friends here now. he has a family that actually likes him. that actually cares. he’s considered useful and important and he’s on drugs!! he can get high and none of them think any less of him for it. why can’t ben see that maybe this is where he belongs?? maybe the middle of the fucking vietnam war is where he fits?? and it’s not like he has anyone or anything back home. the only thing he could have missed is ben and ben’s with him in 1968 so there’s literally nothing. and ben wants to yell back, he wants to argue that there’s plenty for klaus to go back to, but he’s realizing that klaus.. might be right. and that hurts. and of course pisses ben off but it hurts because nobody should have to travel back in time and fight in a pointless war to find basic respect, especially not klaus. klaus who has been through enough - who deserves good things more than anyone ben knows. so after that conversation he doesn’t bring it up anymore. he looks at it sometimes, and thinks about their siblings, how they just gained their missing brother only to lose another, how are they doing? have they noticed klaus is missing yet? did they see the motel room?? did they know that all of that blood was klaus’s?? (shh patch didn’t die, hazel and cha cha escaped by knocking her out but she lives because i said so. diego shows up and finds her, freaks out at first but is relieved that she’s fine. he manages to get her to wake up and she tells him that klaus was there. he was hurt, very very hurt, but he got away. she doesn’t know where he went, he crawled through the vent, and he’s gone, diego. you need to find him - he needs a hospital. ahem anyway) ben thinks on these things and it never takes him long to get disgusted looking at it because it contains, in a way, their family. and he thinks he knows the answers. he gets to a point where he decides he wouldn’t be upset if they never had to see those jackasses again. his loyalties lie with klaus, after 13 years together there’s no way they wouldnt be. and if doing what’s best for klaus, doing what makes klaus happy, is staying right where they’ve found themselves than he can deal with it. that’s where he ends up anyway but its definitely not a quick or easy point to reach. he’s there for every battle, all the days of marching, watching klaus kill people and knowing how badly it’s affecting his brother and yet he doesn’t stop. he doesn’t pull back without orders, doesn’t put his gun down until he knows his squad is safe. and that fierceness grows as he gets closer to dave. ben doesn’t know what to think of dave at first, probably doesn’t trust him - knowing every man klaus has ever found attractive or had a “relationship” with before - but ben literally watches this - admittedly handsome - soldier boy fall in love with klaus, and klaus with him. ben witnesses the disco. the private conversation - from a distance, he’s doesn’t feel quite right listening in and he can still see them. the way they look at each other. how gently dave approaches every moment with klaus - the hand on his cheek, their first kiss (which he WILL tease klaus about later) when they head back to the hotel that was booked for all the guys for r&r, ben decides to wander saigon instead because he’s pretty sure he knows where things are going to go considering klaus and dave are roommates (oh my god they were roommates) by the time he gets back they’re both passed out (in the same bed. as he expected) from that day forward klaus is happy, genuinely happy in a way ben can’t remember him ever being, and dave has of course gained ben’s full approval (especially when klaus tells dave about the ghosts and dave believes him. even turns to where klaus is pointing at ben and tells ben that he’s happy that klaus has at least one good sibling, that he’s happy to know ben is there. when dave knows ben is there he always greets him. it’s not anything that grand really but it means a lot to ben. and when klaus finally tells him about the time travel, a little later on, dave believes him then too. said it made sense because he always thought there was no way someone as incredible as klaus could’ve come from the same place as he himself - let alone the same time. it never seemed to.. fit) SO ben is a fan. and he stays by both their sides - keeping them alive as best he can - along with a few other ghosts who are coherent, previous members of the 173rd, who pass things on to ben when klaus is too high. they talk, as long as no one but dave is around - dave who adapts pretty easily to klaus holding a whole conversation with someone he can’t see or hear. and ben.. stays ben. the only thing being in the war really changes is the way he views their siblings and he now has one other live person that he can “talk” to. eventually, almost 11 months in, they find out they’re getting sent to the frontlines. even closer to the danger. and klaus has a bad feeling. this is when ben brings up the briefcase again, hesitantly, and before klaus goes off reminds him that they could take dave with them. if he wanted to go. klaus can return to their time, to relative safety, and still have dave. it’s no longer a ‘one or the other’ situation. all they have to do is get dave to say ‘yes’. he says it very quickly of course (if you think i’d let dave die you’re out of your goddamn mind) he can be tough and feral when he needs to be, when pushed if klaus is in danger but he isn’t a killer, he doesn’t want to be a killer, he wants out. but he also wants a life with klaus and while they talked about going back to the states in.. well.. dave’s time and getting a little house and all that - doing that in 2019 sounds much better. especially after the night klaus told him softly about how things were different for lgbtq+ people, how they could hold hands and be as out as they wanted. get married. adopt. all things dave spent his whole life believing he’d never be allowed to have. so they do it - right then. klaus pulls out the briefcase and they gather the few things they wanted to keep and in a bright light they’re gone. (maybe they said something, or goodbye, to each squadmate before leaving. maybe they didnt and it hurt but if they waited around to get through everyone it would be too late to run) AND OH!! they take the ghost soldiers with them / the ghost soldiers find them in 2019, because i’m a slut for klaus having good ghosts, friend ghosts, who - even if they died horribly, are still the same person they were alive. and maybe sometimes they look like their deaths and sometimes they can look normal - ben teaching the soldiers how to be ghosts?? including how to appear as you were; whole, no holes or blood or missing limbs or chunks of head blown off. they’re all grateful and so is klaus. tho listen: he still gets high because i fucking said so - however, at least until the world is saved, he sticks to cigarettes and - for sleeping purposes - pot, dave does as well. because dave isnt a square. maybe he sticks to that path afterwards. maybe not. i for one support everything except 100% sobriety 100% of the time in this instance anyway: later on when klaus can make ben corporeal for any amount of time he wants ben tells their siblings about the real life romantic drama he got to watch close up, from their first meeting all the way to the return to 2019. he also mentions a lot of things about the war, the sights and sounds of senseless murder - something their brother and his boyfriend were forced to take part in - the wounds they had to deal with, heal through. klaus and dave definitely have some scars. the fear. and that’s after telling them about hazel and cha cha and the almost two days they had klaus and nobody noticed. (maybe klaus lets his siblings meet the other soldiers, maybe not. maybe he lets them wander the mansion corporeal to scare the shit out of people. who knows) ben wants to make their siblings feel bad. he wants them to hurt and feel guilty. it’s the very least they deserve he thinks, when it’s all said and done. he hasn’t been able to say anything to them for 13 years and he’s got a lot of things built up - but gotta say, the last year (five-ish days?? starting at ep.1) have really taken the whole goddamn cake. klaus is embarrassed and shocked and actually quite touched that little benny is really going feral for the first time - though he keeps trying to tell him none of it is a big deal. he doesnt like confrontation. dave however is extremely pleased by the whole thing. klaus kept saying he and ben would get along if they ever got to meet and he was right. ben had, with a serious face, dubbed them the klaus hargreeves love & protection squad (bc dave doesnt know what the fuck even a ‘meem’ is yet) and that’s that. they make up a handshake and everything. klaus has never felt so loved.

aaand eventually klaus and dave and ben (because of course he’s invited) do get that little house away from the city - someplace with few to no ghosts. someplace they can make their home. they make sure it has a room they can make up for ben even though he doesnt sleep (he still deserves his own space. a place to get away from them if he wants. somewhere to put his books and such. ben doesnt get emotional about that at all. absolutely not.) and they get pets and klaus gardens and ben reads books about gardening so he can help and dave works (mechanic is always a good time. or bookstore owner!! coffee shop?? listen. those may or may not be my favorite aus) and maybe the siblings get to visit and maybe they mend things and bond or whatever idk THE POINT IS:: Ben is a good brother and i think the idea of him going through vietnam with klaus is interesting and if someone with more ideas/thoughts ever wrote this i would be on that like cheese on broccoli honestly. THE SECOND POINT IS:: Klaus and Dave deserve to be happy and have the life they dreamed about together and if they shared their home with anyone it would be the Bentacles SO… OKAY… that definitely did it’s own thing but i really really genuinely love thinking about what those months would have been like with ben there - what he would have thought or said or done about things yknow?? and how that would have affected klaus/changed things. i didnt give a lot of examples in this because my brain didn’t want to stay on track (as if it ever does) but it’s 1:30 in the morning and im so fucking tired lsdfd;lk if you actually read this.. first of all: im sorry. second of all: thank you. and literally if anyone ever wrote something about this topic (not like.. this post specifically, just the ben in vietnam plot) and nobody important dies i’ll love you and give you a lil smooch on the noggin s m ooch. smooches. you know who likes smooches?? klaus. you know who deserves smooches?? klaus. you know who’s getting smooches?? THAT’S RIGHT. KLAUS. because dave has a degree in giving them and he can’t let that education go to waste amiright??

The build of their bodies were similar, and atop their shoulders, all of them carried cudgels that were densely covered in sharp wolf teeth. It created an illusion that a pack of wolves had transformed into people. attack of the furries? okay.

It was easy to comprehend after thinking about it. This person had been buried in the desert sand for fifty to sixty years. The flesh of his body had long been transformed into nutrients for those Kindred Moon Herbs. He had been entirely consumed until the only thing remaining was a mere skeleton. when this book isnt being very funny its being very grim!!! yikes!! also this was an episode of hannibal

Ke Mo definitely had never heard someone ask to go first in this place. His eyes widened and looked like bells as he asked in astonishment, “You want to go first? okay last comment for this post. mxtx’s little authors note about everyone being straight except for hualian but you can make up headcanons as long as you dont split hualian up fjdlfakdj. i just find it silly to write a story thats so clearly for an audience that understands shipping and ships often and say not to split a specific couple up but i mean to be fair i kind of get it that sentiment as an author and not wanting people to do certain things with your work, although again i think its silly

i guess the point of this note is just to be clear that no one else is going to get together so no one argues about it and i dont actually know much about how this was published but it seems like it was serialized so i can see why that would be an issue. personally i dont really care for knowing stuff like that ahead of time but i know a lot of people do and it seems to be thing in other cnovels ive seen to know whos going to get together as far as major characters are concerned i guess thats part of the draw and i guess i kind of get it

not sure how much other romance will be in this but also i think its kind of ridiculous to be like “these are the only two gay characters” in a cast that just keeps growing but whatever shes really leaving that work up to the readers to make it happen which they’ll do anyways so whatever. also there had to be at least one of the 33 officials who fought hua cheng who thought he was hot. theres no way that didnt happen

she-ra 4

the reason i stopped watching she-ra is the same reason i stopped watching the dragon prince.

the narrative doesn’t take the situation seriously. instead of leaning into the anguish of war and violence (atla, teen titans) - they make light of it. EVEN when the characters’ guardians are KILLED!!

when Angella died and they spent 2 seconds on Glimmer’s grief at the end of season 3 i was like......actually fuck this. HOW can i take any of these stakes seriously when they insist on brushing them off???

anyway just had to complain about that - especially because the start of the first ep of 4 is them joking AGAIN about something as grim as Glimmer now carrying all the responsibilities of her mother - who may i remind you IS DEAD

but catradora became canon apparently so now i have to struggle through

her aunt, her mother’s sister, is fuckin, joking about cakes, her friends are laughing at the joke. COME ON! how goddamn unrealistic and insensitive. EVEN if they wanna make a point of it - it’s silly! because the narrative PARTICIPATES in making light of the situation. if it was just the characters it would be less jarring

‘we’ll make sure this day is perfect’ WHAT? how could it EVER BE IF HER MOTHER IS FUCKING DEAD????????? AND THAT”S THE ONLY REASON SHE’S QUEEN????? ‘must be hard’ YEAH IT’S HARD - IN FACT IMPOSSIBLE. instead of pretending to be happy maybe you can show some genuine sensitivity. these people are so crazily emotionally underdeveloped my god. what age are they supposed to be? 16? 17? The problem that She-ra has (just like the dragon prince) is that there are no relevant adults. Oh sure there’s a Queen, and some Soldiers, and a Sorceress. But there isn’t a single relevant competent adult around who is concerned with running a bureaucracy or the emotional stability of children

I do like how Catra has overcome her fear of Hordak. but i think i remember being fuckin furious at her for almost destroying the whole world and hurting Scorpia and betraying Entrapta just to spite Adora. vaguely.

the rebellions problem is that they’re all extremely stupid himbos. like literally, in the whole story, only catra and shadowweaver have any smarts, while glimmer gains the ability to think during full moons on wednesdays. meanwhile everybodys is a slave to their emotions - which destroys any brain cells that shadowweaver or catra (or angella or anyone) might have managed. they could literally have killed hordak the entire time but just let him order them around because they’re so hot for acknowledgement

I’m glad Glimmer reflects my frustrations now hahahahaah

‘everyone is already acting like she doesn’t matter’ - yeah dudes, you fucking insensitive bastards

this is another thing about this show that makes me groan. sappy quick resolutions of emotional turmoil through re-affirming the fuckin power of friendship in the first episode of the season.

Catra has also moved to kill Adora straight up so many times. im sure she really wants to (but it would destroy her later). But now, Adora swept something at Catra that might have actually killed her. I get Catra though, I would’t want to get beaten by some blonde, blue-eyed, glowing golden kid who always gets to win and do better. this is truly the first time Adora has moved to kill Catra......

does flatterina not have parents who’d be like: uhhhhh maybe leave the soldiering for a couple more years?

the interesting thing about this show is that they’re setting up a dichotomy. they’re treating war like a high-stakes game because they have the good side adhere to an aesthetic of ....magic. they will not make the two sides equivalent in any way - which makes questions of morality moot. the show is purely an emotional drama. the horde is an army of brainwashed kids in an industrial wasteland - they fight with tech and guns. but the good guys cannot fight with an army or tech, they fight with cleverness and magic. they’re called the ‘rebellion’ - they HAVE to be underdogs because they have to follow the script of good - even though what’s really going on is war, not a rebellion. That’s why they have a single strike team that do ‘missions’. They are presented as FUNDAMENTALLY different - on the level of identity which they cannot change lest they destroy themselves - and in that way the good guys can never become the bad guys. it is ALMOST meta. think they’re gonna do something with that at one point. i hope

also Netossa has such a super cool design.

(this may seem harsh but adora is DUMB shes so fucking DUMB!!!! and she has many good qualities (such as an almost innate sense of morality) but goddamn. i guess its good to sometimes have a show about all around dumb characters. i mean, it’s not unrealistic per se, it’s just.....weird.)

the interesting thing about these characters is that you can SEE every single one of them struggling with cognitive dissonance. thats the big story of this show. they see the world a certain way - and then when something challenges that, they fight to the death to destroy or deny or ignore that new information - to everybody’s detriment. and they can’t back down because every step they’ve taken - would turn to sins they can’t live with. it’s interesting and its also a kind of conflict that‘s frustrating if not resolved at SOME point. thats why i love this season for its characters going off the rails. adora aiming to kill catra, catra destroying her last relationships, glimmer growing more and more militant.

they’re all acting like teens - that is - highly volatile - unable to keep from provoking others or be provoked - but they ARE teens.

‘catra doesn’t care. she’ll hurt people to get her way (implied: EVEN people on her side)’ - we must remember that Scorpia was entirely fine with KILLING the trio (it was Catra that wasn’t at the time).

‘you’re a bad friend’ OH OUCH. Catra - who’s always been treated as a whipping girl by those in power - does the same to those she is in power over. But on some level she doesn’t WANT to be that. she’s just always always been rejected and take advantage of and lashed out at and abandoned by the people she considered important (shadowweaver ---- doing the same to catra that was done to her is so goddamn....it’s the story of this show. the simplicity and banality of damaging and hurting others and that carrying over to harm even more people - is the story of this show and it’s immeasurably frustrating and REALISTIC)

she still flinches at Hordak’s lashing out. but she imprints on him the exact lesson she’s trying to school herself in. If you don’t need anybody - you don’t want anyone - if nobody matters but the mission and winning - then you can’t be hurt. she wants to prove her worth - but she doesn’t realise that inherently means that she’s putting somebody in power over her - again and again and again.

mermista coming in clutch with the braincells: there’s a spy! I love how this is played as completely implausible and just Mermista nonsense (who i love learning about) - while it’s so obviously true/

i actually love Adora when she’s being serious and heroic, or a huge dork. and she has the wit to RECOGNISE good ideas. but i just don’t understand why Adora is being big b about being used as a distraction. like....why?

i love that the underside of Mermista’s sneaker has a figure. but why the fuck is a common soldier with them (flatterina) and do they really think they can interrogate the whole castle filled with some shitty guards and...what - the guerilla troops they sometimes employ? where do they even live? ah in a tent city. ok

why is the GENERAL in front line combat WITHOUT SOLDIERS???? oh wait. glimmer did that too when she was general. lolololol

i understand why Adora doesn’t trust Shadowweaver and doesn’t want her around most of all - and Glimmer getting buddy buddy with her is hurtful. but...it’s not helpful to needle glimmer about it. but dismissing the guards around shadowweaver however? stupid of Glimmer. unnecessary. ‘what has she done but help us?’ - uhhhh she kidnapped you, corrupted your powers, almost wiped Adora’s mind. I wish Adora had summed up those things instead of leaving them implied.

so what im getting is that. the Old Ones colonised Etheria. Etheria has magic, and when Mara was chosen they made that girl an elite soldier - giving her a first one’s tech sword so she could ‘control’ Etheria’s magic. Then Mara was told to study the magic of Etheria - the ship implying that she’d not been on the planet before. then they created a Heart of Etheria project - which will probably turn the magic into a weapon. this was going to be used against Hordak Prime, im sure. I mean, Mara saved Etheria, but she did doom the rest of the universe to...extinction.... like, judging from Hordak’s strategy, Hordak Prime just literally exterminates planets and repopulates them with his clones....

But why would the planet choose a girl from amongst the colonisers - twice?

I've decided to make this post about it, which I will write as I go, because I've seen a lot of discussion about the movie without actually hearing about what happens in it... so uh... yeah. Here are my thoughts as I think them:

Oneshot inspired by the scene where Grisha meets Carla for the first time <33

You had been a waitress in a local pub for nearly two years within Wall Rose, the pub was called 'The Soldiers Shack' since most of the customers would be, well, soldiers. The ratings of the food, service, and building were all good so life seemed to be going easy for you. Of course your job was to take the orders and serve but you'd usually be found behind the bar setting up the pints for the people who only wanted a drink. In all your time working at the Soldiers Shack you've met and gotten on well with a few well known names- Commander Pyxis, Erwin Smith, Hanji Zoe and a few others you could name out.

Though Erwin and Hanji had a good friendship with you sometimes on a rare occasion if Erwin wanted to hold a meeting over a drink or two with Hanji the pair would usually come to your workplace and get served by you-

Resting the tray on your hand you took a swift glance towards the door where the small bell chimed meaning someone had left or just arrived, a minature smile graced your lips upon seeing the tall blonde commander and someone you're not so familiar with but the only thing you did know that this newcomer was down right good looking. Bidding the customers you were just with a little smile you left the table and scurried off behind the bar to get another order ready, nodding somewhat to Erwin-he took it as you'd be over in a second as he seated himself and the other shorter male down at a table.

Taking out some clean pint mugs from underneath the counter you wiped them down before taking a swift glance at the small paper slip with the order on it, quickly filling both mugs near the brim you set off again to serve. Arriving at the small table of women they thanked you with a grateful smile. The pub was filled with a calm aura, chatter along with some laughter that filled the air as the building emitted a relaxing and friendly tone.

Fixing up your uniform you lightly held the tray in your hand as you began to hum whilst stepping towards Erwin and his presumed friend. A soft snicker left your lips as you arrived at the pair and lightly tapped the top of Erwin's head with the tray "having another important meeting again I see Erwin?" you joked as the male chuckled resting his arms on the table, you drifted your gaze towards the ebony haired stranger only to find him already staring causing a tint of pink to ghost your cheeks and avert your orbs. "You're right as usual F/N, never fail to impress me" Erwin commented as you went to the side of the table facing the two and motioning to the newcomer "and who's this? Friend of yours?" you continue as Erwin smirks slightly and motions to the scowling man. "Oh that's Levi, I think I've mentioned him to you before if I'm correct?" he answered as you hummed in acknowledgement before taking out your pen and small notebook after sending Levi a warm smile.

"Pleasure to meet you Levi, I've heard good things about you~!" you chirp as the male cocks a brow and huffs sitting back. "Could say the same about you, F/N right?" he spoke earning a nod from your behalf before he crossed his arms. Taking a glimpse back to Erwin you shot him a smirk before clicking your pen and saying "anyways, what can I get you boys? Or are you only here for the chat?".

Erwin looked towards the bar then back to you "I'll take the usual F/N, thank you" the blonde said as you scribbled down the order before turning to Levi only to see him lean forward and rest against the table a little "I'll take whatever he's having as well if you don't mind". You nodded and marked x2 by the order before excusing yourself to the bar. Disappearing behind the counter you hummed and took out two glasses and filled them up with the beer, leaving your tray on the counter you took the glasses and made your way back towards the two soldiers and lightly set both drinks down in front of them. "It's on the house for tonight so you two might as well treat yourselves" you winked to the pair as Erwin smiled shaking his head at you. "You're going to end up letting us think we don't need to pay at all in here L/N, thank you" he hummed taking a sip of his drink as Levi grunted to agree with the male. "Ah well, I better get going.. If you need me give me or one of the girls a hollar" you told them both before leaving.

"You've had your eye on her the whole night"

Snapping his head back towards the blonde Levi scowled watching Erwin snicker playfully at him. "Tch I haven't, what are you on about?" he attempts to retort as Erwin rolls his eyes taking another sip of his drink knowing well enough that Levi was trying to cover for himself. "Why don't you go talk to her? We've already finished discussing the upcoming expedition, you might as well try talk to F/N.. She's a nice girl Levi" Erwin tried to persuade the man who only glared at him in return before taking a swig of his drink.

Levi looked to the side again where you stood, laughing with a small table of Garrison soldiers with the tray tucked underneath your arm. Erwin followed his gaze and inwardly smirked upon seeing you again where Levi was looking. Sitting back in the wooden chair Erwin coughed lightly as Levi craned his head towards the blonde for a second then back to you.

"F/N!"

Hearing your name being called you peered over to the direction seeing where it came from only to find Erwin waving you over, gaze trailing to Levi he instantly turned away as if he weren't looking in the first place. Appearing by the table in a few seconds you clasped your hands behind your back "something wrong?" you asked nipping your lower lip as Erwin waved off your worry before gesturing to Levi. "He said he wouldn't mind another drink, you're not busy are you?" the ocean eyed man asked as you shook your head subtly before switching your orbs towards the handsome captain who grumbled under his breath. "Why don't you come over to the bar with me? Hm? Nobody is over there and it would be easier for you to be served then" you suggested taking your tray in your hand again, Erwin only shaked his head at your suggestion before lightly pointing to Levi who seemed to shrink further in his seat glaring daggers at the blonde.

"Oh, well if you want to come over then you're free to, come on Levi let's get you another round" you pat his shoulder before walking back to the bar seeing the cobalt eyed man hesitantly follow you to the bar before sitting himself on one of the tall barstools rounding the counter. Resting your elbow on the wooden counter you gently smile at Levi who knits his thin brows together. "I'll just have another round of the same drink.. Please" he seemed almost shy but Levi was inwardly kicking himself for looking like a shy little school boy. You didn't take too long to ready the drink and slide it across the counter, hearing him mutter a thanks you then leant against the counter resting your chin on the palm of your hand which was propped up by your elbow looking over the pub and the workers that were scattered all over the place taking and serving orders.

Some time passed with you and Levi, now you both were subtly flirting with one another. Levi watched as you giggled at one of his shitty jokes making his stomach flutter. The way you both had just met a few hours ago and you were now flirting was unbelievable to most that were around. He had to admit- he had gotten a bit tipsy but not that much yet that didnt exactly stop him from not thinking before speaking half the time. "Being a waitress must definitely be less stressful and worrisome than going beyond and playing soldier with the titans" you smirk as Levi rolls his eyes whilst fixing his cravat and collar of his jacket before leaning in towards you a little. "Tch, we're only playing soldier to make sure to free beauties like you doll-face" he somewhat slurred but ended up coughing as he began to instantly fight off that feeling of drowsiness and light weight from the alcohol trying to take over his system. If that ever happened while you were in the room and he managed to get drunk Levi would be sure as hell that he'd end up embarrassing himself in front of you. He wouldn't have the courage to look you in the eye ever again.

"Levi! We have to get going now, the carriage has arrived" Erwin bellowed watching as Levi turned around to look at the male across the pub standing by the entrance with his jacket on. Scowling, shortly followed by a sigh of defeat Levi turned back to you with an almost saddened expression, a light smile tugged at the corner of your lips to try and improve Levi's mood seeing him take out his wallet from under his jacket and hand you a €10 note before sliding off the barstool and looking to you. "Levi no, take it-" you tried handing him back the money but Levi refused with a furrow of his eyebrows as he closed your hand around the little paper slip and inched it back towards you "no keep it, treat yourself L/N" he reassured as you hesitantly slipped it into your breast pocket. "I- ..guess I'll see you around? Prince Charming~?" you hummed as Levi rolled his eyes, managing to hop over the counter you softly kiss his cheek before watching as a red hue dusted his cheeks and the tip of his ears. A huff came from Levi in slight shyness as he walked away from the counter leaving you to watch him make his way towards the door; he wasn't five steps away before he took a glimpse to you from over his shoulder and said.

"If you keep that up you'll be seeing more of me around here, goodnight F/N."

FAQ

Why do you read so many old books?

Because most of them belong to the public domain, and are thus freely available online. Also it is fun to see how much the past influences and creates the foundation for the present. And how much or how little has changed, and what this says about humanity.

Orwell - Animal Farm (1945)

A satire on the Russian Revolution and the failure of communism. Among other things, Animal Farm underlines the importance of learning to read properly and think for oneself, in a way that tickles with dark humor.

Orwell - 1984 (1949)

Similar to Animal Farm, 1984 is an even more systematic and total examination of a society where all history and information is tightly controlled and constantly being rewritten. Being published after WW2, 1984 trades some of Animal Farm’s humor for more serious and tragic imagery of concentration camps. In a sense, 1984 is an exploration of the possibility of mind control or brainwashing through societal-level propaganda.

Huxley - Brave New World (1932)

Absolutely fantastic. If 1984 was about what would happen if everything we read was false, then Brave New World is what would happen if no one had the desire to read at all. Brave New World shows a futuristic society that runs like clockwork with the help of genetic engineering and a miracle drug called Soma. COMMUNITY, IDENTITY, STABILITY. BNW examines the costs of a society that is mass-produced off assembly lines.

Fitzgerald - Great Gatsby (1925)

A criticism of conspicuous consumption and the Roaring 20s. You can’t bring your mansion with you when you die. Mortality sucks that way. Throughout the novel we are invited to ask ‘what makes Gatsby (the character) so great?’ From rags to riches to death, Gatsby’s lonely existence is pitiable, tragic and relatable as ever.

Steinbeck - Grapes of Wrath (1939)

Steinbeck’s illustration of the 1930s Dust Bowl and the resulting migration of impoverished families west across the United States, is a poetic masterpiece. ‘You want to work for 15cents an hour?! Well I got a thousan’ fellas willing to work 10cents an hour.’ Also featuring two of the strongest female characters in modern literature, Grapes of Wrath is a powerful lesson on human dignity.

Shakespeare - Hamlet (1599)

The more I read Hamlet, the more I come to the conclusion that Hamlet is about delay of action. In a way, Hamlet forces himself to be penitent for something he doesn’t do. The more time he spends contemplating whether or not to kill Claudius, the more time he has to beat himself up and call himself a coward, and for accidents to pile up. ‘But put your courage to the sticking place!’ Hamlet is what happens when you ask a philosopher to commit murder.

Shakespeare - King Lear (1605)

A lesson in parenting. If you want people (especially your children) to respect you, do not spoil them. Lear learns this lesson far too late, and gives up his inheritance far too early. Another possible lesson is to not trust liars, and instead divine a person’s character by their actions. The trouble is, with so much action going on behind the scenes, the opportunities for dramatic irony and treachery are twofold!

Wilde - Picture of Dorian Gray (1890)

An example of 19th century Gothic Romanticism. And also, similar to Great Gatsby, another cautionary tale against conspicuous consumption. Dorian Gray, forever beautiful, forever young, is by all appearances the outward ideal of a dandy. As the novel develops, his cruelty and vanity plunge to increasing depths.

Wilde - Importance of Being Earnest (1895)

The comedic side of being a dandy. If the suit makes the man, surely if I wear a different suit I become a different man? In a play of double-identities, love polygons and other trivialities, Earnest is a raucous upset of 19th century decorum.

Ibsen - Hedda Gabler (1891)

A complex and cruel character, Hedda’s penchant for destroying the lives of others, seems to stem from bitterness and boredom toward her own life.

Williams - Glass Menagerie (1944)

Theater is a box through which we view the lives of our fellow homo sapiens. Like passing by an exhibit at the museum, or peeking in on pandas at the zoo, Glass Menagerie presents a slice of life.

McCourt - Angela’s Ashes (1996)

A coming-of-age memoir about an Irish boy growing up in an impoverished family. From the day he’s born to the day he becomes a man, memorable moments include: father always coming home drunk, scavenging for coal to get the fire going, stealing loaves of bread, shoes made of tire rubber, having an affair with a terminally ill girl, having pig’s head for Christmas, and wearing Grandma’s old dress to stay warm at night.

Salinger - Catcher in the Rye (1951)

A tightly written story of teenage angst, about the few days after an unmotivated student drops out of a New York prep school. Unable to face his family, he wanders around the bustling city, growing increasingly depressed. Holden’s conversations with different characters throughout the novel, underline a simple moral that sometimes we just want someone to listen. (Preferably someone who isn’t a phony!)

Shakespeare - Macbeth (1606)

A bloody and ambitious soldier descends into madness after the murders the King! It can be difficult interpreting and staging the supernatural elements of the play (e.g. do you show the ghosts on stage? what about the Witches? When, why). But remember Shakespeare is writing in a time hundreds of years before modern psychology, where memory and cognition was still immaterial and mysterious. Similar to Dorian Gray (1890), Macbeth is a moral on how one’s actions affect one’s mind.

Albom - Tuesdays with Morrie (1997)

Succumbing to ALS near the end of his life, sociology professor Morrie Schwartz welcomes death with open arms. Hosting many visitors and having many conversations with family, friends, past students, the media, Morrie’s affable outlook on life and mortality shines.

Golding - Lord of the Flies (1954)

An allegory on the state of nature. One wonders if/how the story may have been different (and possibly more horrifying and prone to censorship debates) if female characters were involved. I suppose that would be a separate inquiry. Unable to see beyond the horizon, and unwilling to look at themselves, Jack and his follows almost doom them all.

Lowry - The Giver (1993)

Another science fiction dystopia in a similar vein as Brave New World or 1984, but less difficult and more relatable for teenagers. Those who enjoy The Giver, should check out the film Pleasantville (1998) featuring Tobey Macguire getting stuck in a black-and-white world. Naturally the lesson being that life is never so simple.

Naipaul - Miguel Street (1959)

A collection of short stories centered around unique characters in a slum in Port of Spain. Featuring arson, domestic violence and plenty of eccentric amateurs, Miguel Street illustrates a colorful community.

Thiong’O - Weep Not Child (1964)

Set during the Mau Mau Uprising against British colonial rule, Weep Not Child follows one boy’s goal of education. Meanwhile his family falls apart around him, and is cut off from his best friend.

Montgomery - Anne of Green Gables (1908)

Having recently been adapted by CBC/Netflix into a series (which is very good), the original novel is full of comedy, quaint coming-of-age lessons centered around school, tea parties, accidents and adventures. But despite this levity, Anne ends with a tragic turn which places it well within the realm of reality.

Shelley - Frankenstein (1818)

Another example of 19th century Gothic Romanticism (like Dorian Gray). Doctor Victor Frankenstein becomes obsessed with the idea of creating life from inanimate material, only to spurn his own creation just after giving life to it. The monster, filled with rage and envy, murders Frankenstein’s dearest friends. A sort of cautionary tale in the same vein as Doctor Faustus by Marlowe, Frankenstein is a counter-weight to the enthusiasm around science at the time. That science can not only produce miracles, but also horrors in its own way if one is not careful.

Anderson - Winesburg Ohio (1919)

A collection of short stories revolving around a small community (similar to Miguel Street). Themes of religion, old age, loneliness, love, feeling stuck in a small town, Winesburg is full of some of the most heart-rending stories in all literature. Also Winesburg manages to accomplish a unity of themes in very short space. The whole of Winesburg is much more than the sum of its parts, such that it can stand just as well against other great novels.

Bronte, Charlotte - Jane Eyre (1847)

One could argue that Jane Eyre is the predecessor to Anne of Green Gables. The latter frequently references the former, both are about orphan girls who grow up successfully in the face of many adverse challenges. While Anne ends with the protagonist becoming a young adult, Jane Eyre ends with a more traditional romantic happy ending, but like Anne is not without its tragedy.

Bronte, Emily - Wuthering Heights (1847)

Fun fact, Wuthering Heights was a novel I considered doing an independent study essay on, but didn’t since I didn’t know anything about literature back then. Although technically of the gothic genre, Bronte primarily uses cruelty and domestic violence to evoke scenes of horror, as opposed to ghosts and monsters, while at the same time using these as tools to explore very down-to-earth themes of social class and gender inequality.

Joyce - Dubliners (1914)

Very similar to Winesburg Ohio, but without the same unity. For example, one story is difficult to read without first reading about the history of Ireland. There are some tear-jerkers and lovely metaphors. For example the final metaphor of “snow falling faintly through the universe”, is a variation of the oft-used metaphor of flowers. How they bloom for a short period then die. What is new with this metaphor is that each snowflake is unique, thanks to the chaotic tumbling of water droplets through the atmosphere, just like how every live is unique. But all snowflakes much reach the ground some time and then melt away into nothingness.

I ran across the open field, sword and shield in hand, my minimal armor clanking as I moved. I swung the weapon, dodging blows as I pushed forward my shield. I was a lone soldier surrounded by hundreds of creatures coming at me. I moved through them like a cat, never once getting touched by the enemy. I smirked as my sword drew blood in the last one of them. I stood tall and breathed heavily over the fallen army.

I took my battle stance as I watched a flash of light Pierce through the sky and disappear no sooner than it had appeared. I relaxed as he came into view.

"THOR! ODIN SON!"

I yelled across the field to him. I could see his smile though we had quite some space between us. I advanced towards him, stepping over and on the bodies I had just taken down.

"Y/n! Daughter of ares. It has been too long my friend."

I hopped down from the largest creature with a loud thud right in front of him.

"It has."

He scanned the field.

"I see my assistance is not required."

I nudged his shoulder with my fist.

"Never was, never will be. It is good to have someone to watch me conquer though."

We both laughed.

"Well after all this fighting war fury you must have worked up a large appetite."

He yelled, his fist thrown up in the air along with mjolnir. The bifrost beam appeared around us and we were flying. As we stepped into the bifrost itself I removed my helmet, balancing it on my hip. I nodded towards the gatekeeper.

"Heimdall."

He nodded back.

"It is always a pleasure to see you y/n."

"Likewise."

Thor patted my back and walked passed me to the entrance. I followed him and we made haste walking along the rainbow bridge.

"The warriors three will be most excited to hear of your return."

I smiled at him.

"Yet the only one I think who genuinely likes having me back is the most glorious lady sif."

I winked at him and he raised an eyebrow.

"I assure you that volstagg, hogun, and fandral all adore your company when you visit."

I laughed at his antics.

"And what of the mighty Thor?"

He smiled genuinely at me.

"I am probably the most excited to see you when you come around, besides father of course. He enjoys your war stories and strategies though he rarely battles anymore."

I nudged him and Drew my sword.

"Come, let us fly."

As we walked into the palace I looked around at all the gold. I had almost forgotten how large this place was. It was much different from Olympus. as we moved forward we were met with the warriors three, each of them greeting me with their own personal flare.

"it is good to see you all again i must say."

volstagg patted thor on the back.

"i say this calls for celebration, it is rare for you to visit us anymore, besides im sure the all-father could use a good story or two."

i laughed at what he had to say.

"im sure he would, what say you thor? shall we wine and dine as the midgaurdians would say?"

he smiled at me.

"i dont see why not."

i heard music drifting through the hall ways as i made my way to the dining hall. the food smelled amazing and i was eager to get to the party. it had been a while since i had talked to the all-father much less thor. i had almost missed him and his band of misfits, it didnt help that i had had a crush on him that had developed over the last few centuries. I walked forward to the table and bowed to the all father. He grabbed my hand and kissed it gently.

"You need not bow before me child, you are like family, as well as a mighty warrior."

I smiled at him before he laughed and embraced me in a large hug.

"It is good to see you again Odin, it has been too long."

He let go of me and returned to his seat.

"Please, this feast is in honor of you, join us."

I nodded and took a seat next to him.

"I was honestly surprised you agreed to a feast all father."

"And why do you say that?"

I picked up a grape and put it in my mouth.

"With talk of war moving through the nine realms I would have figured you to be too busy to party with an old friend."

I sent him a look in anticipation of his response. He gave me a Stern gaze before tapping the table.

"Those are just rumors, you of all people should understand that."

I reached over to him, placing my hand on the table by his plate.

"Odin war runs in my blood, I can feel it pulsing through the galaxies. Maybe it won't be raging in the next few years but it is brewing and we needn't ignore it."

He went to open his mouth but Thor appeared at my side before he could say anything.

"Trading old stories?"

I just looked up at him but my gaze was torn away when Odin spoke again.

"Aren't we always my son?"

He smiled up at him.

"Why don't you take y/n on a walk across the grounds, many things have changed since she visited last."

I looked at him and drew my hand back, slowly standing.

"Yes I think that's a wonderful idea."

We walked through the garden side by side not really saying much but a sentence here or there about how things had changed. I personally didn't want to say much, I had too many political points running through my head about the on coming war. Suddenly Thor stopped.

"Something is troubling you."

I looked at him, watching him walk to the stone fence and sitting on it hesitantly.

"I thought I was harder to read than that."

He laughed.

"At first yes, but we've known each other long enough for me to know."

I sighed before joining him.

"I am troubled."

He reached over and took my hand in his.

"What troubles you?"

I looked up into his soft eyes.

"War."

He raised an eyebrow.

"Since when has war been something you overly concern yourself with?"

He was right.

"It's not just any war. I can feel something, something big. Something important, perhaps even world crushing."

He squeezed my hand.

"Well if that is true then we will fight this war together, Asgard and Olympus side by side."

I shook my head no and looked down at our intertwined hands.

"This is why I adore you Thor."

I looked up at him.

"You are as selfless as you can be and look for answers before you've even been brought a question."

He smiled at me.

"But I'm afraid this is a war we cannot win. Not you, not I, not either of our fathers. This is a war to end all wars."

His face dropped.

"Then we will fight until we cannot fight anymore."

I laughed at him.

"We will. Everyone will."

He brought my hand up to his heart and placed it gently on his chest.

"I would fight for you if that's what you wanted."

I could feel heat rise to my face, I hadn't felt like this in what seemed like a millennia.

"Lets not think about it now, war is not among us yet."

I took my hand away from his chest and moved it to his face.

"Let's drink, be merry, and love like no tomorrow."

He smiled before leaning down and kissing me.

"As it should be y/n."

Sam WInchester: The Reluctant Hero

When we wonder in frustration, as to why Sam seems to suffer more than Dean does, instead of being angry at a narative bias, or assuming the show runners hate Sam, take into consideration that Sam and Dean, though equally heroic, are different types of heros Dean is a willing hero. He has been proud of his job as a hunter since he was young, even if sometimes he was bored with it, or would have liked to persue a career as a machanic. From what we see in flash backs, Dean was boasting “Im a hero!” since high school, where Sam just wanted to be like every other kid. Sam’s first choice in life is not to be a hero. Not directly anyway. He was studying to become a lawyer. Azazel said he was becoming a Tax Attorney, but Dean saw him as a Criminal Justice Attorney in What is and What Should Never Be, which I think is more fitting for Sam. The indirect hero that would get justice for the victims. He would make a wonderful psycholigist also. Dean would be a very good cop, or soldier, or first responder. This is not to say Sam wouldnt run into a burning building to save a family, he most certainly would, but his interests seem to lie mostly in long term after care. So for Sam to be in the front line with Dean, is something he does because its the right thing, not because it’s his chosen life path (early life anyway. he has stated in his later life that he did chose this life for himself) and this makes him a reluctant hero. The problem with that though, is that in literature, the reluctant hero always suffers the most.

Its no argument that Dean suffers too. Both brothers have broken my heart on many occasions, but Sam’s suffering over any event, stretches far past the season he suffers it in. This is so we, the viewers, have an idea as to how much of a hardship Sam is willing to endure to save Dean and to save the world. Sam and Dean both willingly went to Hell, but their experiences were greatly different, and unfolded on the show wildly unbalanced. Dean sold his soul for Sam, so Sam would live. He didnt want to go to Hell, but he did it willingly. in Dream a Little Dream, Dean said to his dream self, that he didnt deserve to go to Hell, and even though he made the choice on his own, I think we all feel like it’s a horrible punishment for a guy who just wanted his little brother to live. I know I hoped they could find a way to get him out of the deal, but unfortunately, he didnt. He stayed in Hell for 4 months, or 40 hell years. He was tortured by Alistair for 30 years until he became a torturer himself. Cas raised him out of Hell, completely whole, even old scars were gone, but we didnt know for a while that the memories were haunting him. How did we find out? Because he told Sam. He tearfully confessed to Sam on more than one occasion, what happened, what he did, what it felt like at the time and how it was hurting him then. What came of it is that he got to confront his torturer, and even though he couldnt kill him himelf, Sam killed him for him. Dean got justice. Sam on the other hand, also willingly went to Hell to save the world, but he felt like he was mainly at fault for breaking the world in the first place, when it was expressed that it wasn’t only him, and he was completely unknowingly breaking it when he did. He obviously didnt want to go to Hell, but he felt it was the right thing to do. What he got for that though, was his soul in Hell, canonically, for 1.5 years, 180 Hell years. He was torured by Lucifer himself in the most brutal ways imaginable. Cas raised his body, soon after he went to the pit, but we arent given an exact amount of time, whether it be an hour or so, or a few weeks, we just know he was physically out for the majority of the year, but I can’t imagine 10 minutes in the cage with Lucifer is a picnic. However, he came back incomplete, without his soul, which endured unimaginable torture. If that’s not enough, while soulless, Sam did things he wasn’t proud of when he got his soul back, and suffered with this, Once he got his memories of Hell back, a whole new level of suffering began. How was this handled? To our knowledge, he never told anyone the details of his Hell tour. All we know about it, was shown in flash backs and hallucinations, that ended up driving Sam insane. Sam was “fixed” by Cas, by simply shifting the pain to himself, not by Sam talking about it, or confronting his torturer, or anyone killing Lucifer. Sam didnt get justice in any sense, and he still carries all of this with him. He has even had to work along side Lucifer to try to stop Amara. No one even brought this up, even though Sam had very recently been back to the cage and had to face Lucifer and the trauma all over again. Season 13 and still Sam hasn’t been given justice or seen closure when Dean’s was answered in only a few episodes. How can we not see the imballance? Well, when we look at it as Sam is the long suffering Reluctant Hero, suck as it may, it makes more sense. It plays into the narrative that the pain piles on Sam, and Sam stuffs it down. We ourselves may forget this happens, if the show itself didn’t bring it up. The case of Tracy Bell for example. A girl that pops up out of nowhere in 9x2 for no reason than to remind Sam that he let Lucifer out and people got killed. I know a bunch of you blame the writers of the episode for that, as though they hate Sam or Jared, but that was part of the Gardreel story. Something that the producers must have told the writers they wanted. “Bring something painful up from Sam’s past, so that when he feels good at the end of the episode, we can be reminded that theres an Angel healing him from the inside” is probably close to what was said in the meeting. We the viewers need to be reminded that Sam never lets things go, at the same time as he never really speaks of them either. It took 13 seasons, but Dean confirms for us in 13x4 that Sam doesnt admit things or it makes them real, and then he has to deal with it. Sam even confirms it himself in 12X3 when he says he knows Mom is burying herself in hunting instead of dealing, through years of personal experience. Now that we understand this is part of Sam’s character, we can better understand why we dont get to see his emotional POV very often, and his traumas rarely get worked out. The differences between Sam being the reluctant hero, and Dean being the willing hero, manifest in many ways. Dean gets very antsy if its been a few days that they havent had a hunt to go on. Sam however, is content to stay home researching. Their short time of trying to live a domestic life with their girlfriends shows reluctant vs willing also. While Sam was with Amelia, he had nothing to do with hunting except reading the news paper and believing other hunters were taking care of things. He refused to tell Amelia about that part of his life. Dean didnt hunt, but he kept it at arms reach. He kept devils traps in the door ways, a rosary in water under the bed and a gun nearby, and he let Lisa know all about that part of his life, and even tried to live it and maintain a life with her. Dean is the kind of guy who will show you every scar and tell you the details of how he got it, while Sam will hide his scars. Dean suffers when innocent life is lost, but he holds on to the fact that he’s saved more people than he’s hurt and it can help him make it day to day. Sam feels like he failed if he didnt save someone. This is precicely why Sam suffers the burdens of his wrongs for years, and Dean doesnt. Dean did a lot of crap while he had the MoC but he hasnt had to visibly suffer from it after the fact. Sam however, is reminded of his poor choices for seasons after the fact. Now since its not a matter of Sam goes to jail for things and Dean doesn’t, we only need to realize its part of maintaining a character trait for us, so we dont forget that Sam never forgives himself and suffers for years over what he considers failures. Now, this willingness vs reluctance shows in their relationship also. Im not going to try to prove one loves the other more, because I am convinced that Dean is #1 in Sam’s world and Sam is #1 in Dean’s world and they love each other as much as any two people can love each other (to steal from the mouth of JP) they both take care of each other, and neither had to be told to do so. Even when Sam was too little to actually take care of Dean, he still did the best he could by wanting to be with him, and giving him gifts. Dean didnt have to learn 100 ways to make mac and cheese, he did it because he wanted to make Sam happy. That being said, lets move on… Sam’s reluctance in their relationship, isnt that he loves Dean less, or doesn’t want to protect him, but his biggest fear is letting Dean down. He can save Dean’s life a million times but considers himself a failure if he let Dean down. Dean’s biggest fear however is Sam dying. He can let Sam down, he can piss him off, but if Sam isnt alive and well, Dean considers himself a failure. When Sam assumed Dean was dead in S8 and didnt look for him, he was going on a promise that he wouldnt look for him. Since we didnt get enough insight to Sam’s state of mind at the time, Im going to assume that Sam was crushed that Dean was dead, but for himself, it was more important, that he didnt let him down by breaking that promise. He saw how angry Dean was when Dean thought he made a deal that raised him from Hell, so he “knew” Dean would be disappointed if Sam looked for him now. Dean however, needs Sam to be alive, so he will risk Sam being disappointed and possibly hating him, as long as he’s alive. So now in S11 its brought up again, that Sam didnt look for Dean in Purgatory, and Sam hadnt forgiven himself for it, its not the writers hating Sam/Jared, its showing us that Sam still hasnt gotten over letting Dean down. He’s a long suffering character, and doesnt see that he was justified in his actions, but instead blames himself for inaction. This fits right into Sam not finding a Win in a case where he couldnt save everyone. He knows he helps more people than he hurts, but the fact that he hurts people at all outweighs the good in his eyes. There will be a time Im sure, and hopefully soon, given the events of the last 2 seasons, that Sam may collapse under all this weight. Maybe he will have some time to voice how badly things hurt him. But if he doesnt. try not to write it off as no one caring about his character, but understand his character feels like a burden if he unloads to people, even, and especially to Dean, who Im sure he believes has enough burden on his shoulders, without Sam sharing his. So try to be patient my friends. This would come out differently if it was a written story. The writer would be able to show us inside Sam’s head easier than they can this way. The only way into Sam’s head is through someone vocalizing it. If Sam does, then we dont see him burying things, if someone else does, it sometimes looks like hes being picked on for no reason…. but there is a good reason. It’s to keep his character consistant as the longsuffering reluctant hero. By @missjackil

history

luna’s parents were traveling when they became pregnant with her and decided that they would settle in whatever place their child would come to earth --- a game of chance, perhaps, but one of fate, too, they thought. they’d always been dreamers, romanticists, adventurers, and why not let their child decided where they’d end up, even before her birth? and so they settled near a small town in south west england, where luna was born under a full moon and thus named luna. for the moon, that had followed her traveling parents everywhere they went, for the moon, the only thing that would be able to match their child’s powerful and mysterious spirit, for the moon, which she was born under.

the house they lived in was built by her parents, and luna loved it. the house twisted and curled and offered plenty of room for her imagination, from day one. life growing up was complete, was free, it was close to perfect ---- and yet, somehow, it shattered.

[ parental death, trauma tw ] at nine years old, luna watched her mother day. it was supposed to be a day of excitement --- every time her brilliant mother invented a new charm, they would have an extravagant dinner and celebrate until way too late and laugh widely and loudly. nothing like that happened. luna watched her mother die in stead and hammered on her chest to try and get her heart to start beating again but nothing, nothing, nothing worked. the world was a mystery and death was, too, but still one thing was clear: her mother was gone, in one way or another.

luna struggled to accept this truth, as she often did with truths. her father grew fragile and obsessive and she grew nervous and quiet and good at being on her own. she started painting and tried to combat flashbacks to that day during the day, only to have nightmares at night. having a wide imagination was a gift, most of the time, but with this, it was a curse.

luna was traumatised. simple as that. her father wasn’t the best support system, but he was there in a way. the roles of father-daughter shifted, slightly, as luna took care of him, too, but he was still there. and so the last two years before hogwarts were hard. terribly, horribly hard. it was trying to learn how to live in a house where something so vital was missing. it was tryign to understand what death was, which is something that simply refuses to be understood. it was fucking hard. period. (not that luna admits that to herself, even now.) [ end of tws ]

luna arrived at hogwarts and was sorted into ravenclaw very quickly and easily. she noticed that she was odd --- or, actually, other people noticed that she was and told it to her, and she shrugged her shoulders and kept moving on. luna had grown reclusive after the death of her mother, and didn’t mind not fitting in. it was lonely, sure, but she didnt see a reason to befriend people who looked down on her beliefs. she didn’t mind being called loony, but when her belongings started to disappear, she grew angry, deep down. she let most comments and acts of cruelty slide off her back, but when a bad word was muttered about her father ( who she already worried so so much about ), she was prone to explosion.

but she was lonely, and then she was not. the details are fuzzy, but at one point she found friends at hogwarts! finally! she did it! luna learned to come out of her shell, learned how to handle compassion ( though clumsily and in her own way, of course ) and the wonderous world of having friends. she painted them on her ceiling and loved and laughed and ---- things were good. she loved. she laughed. she wasn’t alone, and while she had never considered herself alone or lonely, it wasnt until she gained friends that she realised that she had been awfully alone.

upon graduation, luna took to the world. she traveled far and wide and learned from amazing, genius people across the world. she studied magizoology and wrote her first essay on a newly discovered species a year into her travels. she returned home often enough, of course, to see how her father was doing, to see her friends. friendship had once been a scary and new thing to luna, but as she grew older, it became natural and easy and something she couldnt do without.

at some point, she and fellow magizoologist rolf scamander got it going. they married, had a pair twins and a new chapter of luna’s life opened up. once again, the complete details about her and rolf meeting are fuzzy, but i imagine it was LIT. i do think she settled more, then, especially when the twins were born. luna hadn’t really had rooted herself down after graduation ( the cottage she owned in the hills of england was a home she barely called a home, as she wasn’t there much ), but that did change.

luna is still the person she was before, she’s just more. she’s more grounded, but not any less in love with keeping her eyes wide open and her head in the skies. she’s a parent. she’s married. she’s got a successful career and a group of people surrounding her that she loves. she has grown up, but she hasn’t compromised. she’s learned how to use perspective and how to be more subtle, without shedding eccentricity or open mindedness.

the quibbler, by the way, still exists and has grown into even more of an underground, activistic magazine. luna writes for it every month.

[ grief, death tw ] so things were going well, and then everything changed. grief came into her life again. harry is dead – harry, one of her first friends, harry, who named his daughter after her, harry, who she loved. friendship is something incredibly important to luna — she painted the faces of her first ones on her bedroom wall, once — and when he died, she got scared by how grief took a hold of her. the first time she lost someone that significant to her, she was much younger, you see, and dealing with shock & trauma as well. this time, she was an adult, settled and grown up. she is more aware of her grief, and that is TERRIFYING.

she’s also less passive in her mourning. before, she was a kid. family friends visited and her father was on her side. now, she’s a parent, a friend; she visits the kids of friends in stead and sticks on ginny’s and everyone else’s side, in stead. luna might come across unfazed or disconnected from her pain, as she talks about it like she is, but she is not: she has her own way of mourning (as everyone does) and she can say some really Truthful and Raw shit at times.

she misses him so much. that’s what it boils down to. she misses him so fucking much. [ end of tws ]

of course she helps reinstate the order. there’s no question about it. luna doesn’t feel like a revolutionist or a soldier, but she does know how to fight, and she does know what is right. she’s good at strategy and defense, mostly, and at keeping spirits high and offering new perspectives.

so here we have luna: a parent, a fighter on the frontlines, a friend. she’s determined. she’s horribly saddened. she’s still herself, despite everything.

personality & tidbits

i think i already touched on this but i think it never hurts to repeat yourself so --- luna is a more grounded individual, at this point. she still has her head in the clouds, but her feet are standing solidly on the ground. she’s a dreamer, yes, but more of a realist, too. ( nothing like one of your best friends dying to make you realise how shit the world is, after all. ) luna isn’t very different from the luna we know in canon, but she’s matured. she’s more. she’s gone through a lot of positive development.

luna is constantly and always in awe of the friends and family she has, especially because she was so lonely for the biggest chunk of her youth. she’s extremely loyal and defensive of them.

luna is agender and has been aware of this for ... most of her life, really? she thinks gender is a big old construct and one she doesn’t want to apply to herself. if others do, she of course doesn’t mind or judge --- she’s veyr openminded when it comes to gender and sexuality. she prefers both she/her and they/them pronouns --- sometimes she doesn’t mind which one people use, and sometimes she will prefer one over the other.

is good at trying to keep up morale without it being an escapist ... kind of situation? offers fresh perspectives a lot, likes being a positive force and yes, sometimes it is easier to focus on the positive, and she will, then.

she really loves the stars and moon and astronomy and astrology!!! wow!!!!!!!

♥ angst and fluff (warning: mentions of violence and minor gore)

♥ WARNING: mentions of violence and blood and slight gore if you’re not into that

kim namjoon is known for his ‘sexy’ brain - the way he can quickly strategize a getaway in less than a minute or how he’s always a part of creating another new invention with yoongi and jungkook

namjoon helps with providing the information on what they lack on while yoongi works on the functionality of the weapon and jungkook does the overall design

but thats not all when it comes to him

sure he’s a little clumsy at times, breaking his cartridge somehow and having to make do with a knife and still managing to pull through

but he’s pretty agile when he puts his mind to it

he would be able to sneak past guards swiftly, dislocating their necks with quick movements and squeeze through vents that were wayy too narrow and small for his tall and wide stature

but even with his outstanding abilities, he doesnt let it get to his head, ensuring that his teammates are way more important and having to put them first before himself

he was truly that kind of leader anyone would look up to and its amazing how it’s a natural part of his personality

he is also the reason why jungkook joined forces because he thought namjoon looked super cool when he tackled the punching bag like a monster

and its just an unspoken thing that namjoon still sees jungkook as a baby when he’s fully capable of knocking out a whole army of soldiers with a simply pistol and knife

*cue jungkook doing his silly dance moves while on mission and namjoon watches over him like a proud dad*

he may or may not join in and accidentally knock out a bodyguard while doing so

sometimes namjoon is too preoccupied with thinking up a storm that at least one of the younger boys have to follow him

the three youngsters always play rock paper scissors because they just Dont Know what will happen when they’re with namjoon

one time taehyung went on a mission with him and both of them nearly got their legs cut off from a chainsaw

or the time jimin went with him and needed to wear an eyepatch for an entire week because namjoon somehow managed to light the flare right in his face

you on the other hand, knows how to avoid his unintended attacks like a professional

people even think you might have a third eye that sees the future or something

because you managed to dodge nearly all of namjoon’s ‘accidents’

but that’s mainly because you’ve grown up with him nearly all your life

and sustained at least 457 injuries throughout your childhood

that boy from ilsan has grown up with you

although the career the both had right now was definitely not something the both of you would imagine

you’re still very grateful to know that the both of you share the same job and you were relived that he wasn’t going to do something so dangerous alone

despite the many dodging you have done, even the smallest things hurt you sometimes

for example, that time where namjoon accidentally chipped a cup and forgot about it so he used it to serve you and it cut your lip

you didn’t really mind but namjoon kept apologizing to you every half an hour for a week straight until you literally had to knock some sense into him

but even with his clumsy ways, he still managed to look out for you during missions and cover for you when you need it

he would literally run an entire mile to save you from a bunch of qualified soldiers even though you could handle them yourselves

but he’s very adamant on keeping promises, especially the one he made with your mom when he was 5, promising that he would protect you no matter what

and it gets pretty annoying sometimes, because he also includes nagging at you and making up rules as protecting you

“you have to sleep right now, we have a mission at 6 in the morning tomorrow,”

“but it’s only 10,”

“did i fking stutter?”

“this is why i like RJ more than you,”

yes,,, that’s jin’s codename dont even question it

and honestly, it might have hurt to hear you say that whenever he nags at you, his intention only being the best for you in mind

and maybe because he doesnt just see you as his childhood friend

but whenever jin brings up the topic about how he always boss you around like your mom even though the rest gets away with it

he would always say because he doesnt want you to get hurt

and that was definitely true

because seeing you in pain would only make himself suffer, and he didnt want to put up with either of that

remember that cut you had on your lip from the chipped cup, he actually genuinely felt super guilty about it

so any of your injuries would be tended by jimin while namjoon tries to avoid you until your fully bandaged and treated

and you Know™

the both of you have been best friends for so long, how could you not tell how he felt in that moment??

and every time that flash of guilt in his eyes appear when he sees you get grazed by a gunshot or a knife??

but you dont mention it and instead lighten up the mood by doing silly things with the boys and eventually force him to join in

the wounds hurt when you move but seeing him so down hurts even more

i guess thats what love is called or sumn hohoho

another day comes and it doesnt really come to your attention until namjoon sends an alert to all your phones to have an impromptu meeting in the living room

as soon as everyone gathered, some still drowsy from their naps while others had just arrived back from a mission, namjoon stands by the coffee table while the rest took a seat on the couches

“we’ve got another mission for us in about 12 hours or so. Agust, i need you to be on watchout by the roof, bunny and calico will be the driveaway car. V and sunshine , you’ll be on the left wing while me and angel will get the right wing. rj, i need you to be the eagle eye and watch over the security cameras. we’ll talk about this in detail after 6 hours. everyone got it?”

everyone nodded at once, taking in all the information while they got into their pairs to discuss things before the next meeting

you looked back to namjoon, worry in his eyes as he paced back and forth - it seemed like this mission was a bigger one than the others

“joon, what’s up?” you whispered, bringing him to the corner of the room as he sighed

“we’re going to infiltrate a highly-secured building where they keep the most treasured jewels and the boss needs us to make a clean escape no matter what,” he cursed under his breath, running a hand through his hair

it was probably the fifth time he had done that throughout the last ten minutes

“hey, look at me,” you put on a small smile

and with slight hesitation, he looks back into your glimmering eyes full of hope

and he feels he might be in too deep - his heart beating a mile per minute and the sound of his surroundings began to fade and his ears only focused on you

“you’re the smartest guy around here, and i’m definitely sure you’ll come up with at least something before the next meeting. besides, the others are just as capable, believe in them and we’ll succeed. Stop worrying, big guy,”

you chuckled, knocking his head slightly with your forefinger, eliciting a soft dry chuckle from his lips

“thank you, angel. now let’s get to planning,” he smirked half-heartedly, moving to the basement where all the excessive planning were made

with the help of energy drinks, coffee and jin’s snacks, the both of you managed to come up with three different routes

the first was the safest, yet took the longest

while the other two was much more riskier and needed all of you to put at least 200% of your efforts put into it

and if any of you didnt, it would either result in permanent injury, or worse, death

but namjoon tried his best to stray away from that topic, and was persistent on following plan A as much as possible

it was the least he could do to ensure your safety and the others

six hours pass in a blink of an eye, and everyone was gathered and ready with a list of suggestions to ensure the success of the mission

with the help of yoongi’s new and improved equipment as well as thorough planning on everyone’s part, nearly two-thirds of the planning was done

all that was left was to check if everything and everyone was in order

and then the actual thing would begin

time passes, and thirty minutes were left

jin took his seat by the multiple monitors, checking each and everyone’s navigating device as well as their in-ears

yoongi had already went to the destination an hour earlier to check on things while he set up his sniper and telescope

jungkook and jimin prepped up the car once they were done suiting up and preparing disguises when needed

while you, namjoon, taehyung and hoseok had slipped into your bulletproof vests and lightweight boots and choosing the preferred weapon

once the codename for the mission to begin had been uttered by joon, everyone went into full effect and ran to their spots

with swift movements and constant scanning of the area, you anf namjoon managed to get half way through the tight security

of course, having to ‘hurt’ a little more than a handful of people

while taehyung and hoseok crawled through the vents since the left wing’s structure barely had any blind spots for them to squeeze into

after nearly an hour and a half of crawling and sticking your backs to walls, you and namjoon managed to find the room where the required jewels were kept and protected

while namjoon deciphered the passcode, you were on lookout, eyes scanning every side of the hallway while your finger remained on the trigger

as soon as you caught shadows coming from the right, you signalled namjoon to go faster, heart pumping through your chest yet your words remained calm and cool

“shadows. how many more minutes?” you questioned him, your arms getting into position as you focused your silencer onto the approaching targets

“3 minutes at most. alert rj if you’re shooting,” as soon as you captured sight of the guards you were all ready to shoot

“rj, camera at the core,” you whispered, focusing your silencer onto one of their foreheads

“roger that, angel,” as soon as he had been alerted, with a quick push of your finger, a bullet shot through, killing the guard in an instant while the other had their firearms aimed right back at you

you aimed at the second guard as quick as you could and shooting him right between his eyes as well

but just as you did, he was able to shoot right through your left arm, leaving you hissing in pain while namjoon finally managed to unlock the room

“hey angel- shit. apply pressure, we’re almost done,” namjoon whispered, placing his arm above yours which you had been covering the wound from bleeding any further

“we got held back a little at the left wing but we’re here now,” a familiar voice softly echoes from above you

taehyung unhinged the vent’s opening, placing it to the side and hopping out, hoseok following suite

before they could speak about your injury, namjoon interrupted, “v, stay here with angel. me and sunshine will get the jewel and once i tell you the signal, the both of you take route B,”

taehyung didnt have the heart to go against his words, the aura namjoon emitted just from his expression told taehyung that there were no time for discussion

before namjoon could enter the laser-filled room, you held him back by his sleeve and shot him a smile “stop worrying in that big head of yours and get that damn jewel,”

a small smile crept onto his lips, yet worry never left his features

as namjoon and hoseok disappeared into the room, taehyung tended to your wounds with the mini first aid box jimin had made for everyone

the bullet was probably still lodged in your arm but taehyung had to make sure the wound had been disinfected before tying it up from wrapping a quick bandage over it

whilst you looked out for anymore oncoming guards

amidst the silence, taehyung was curious and he could never really contain that curiosity

“so you confessed to him yet?” taehyung looked back into your wide ones before returning his attention to tying up the bandage

“we’re on a mission, v. not now,” you groaned rubbing your temples with your free arm

“i’m just asking. besides you should do that soon before i do it myself,” he shrugged, tying a second knot to ensure it doesnt fall off

“or i’ll help tell too,” a voice echoed in your intercoms, mischievous giggles you could never mistake for someone else

“rj i swear to god, you’re supposed to watch out for us, not listen into our conversations so you can, i dont know, ‘spill the tea’.” once your wound was treated, you held up your rifle and watched out for the hallway on the right while taehyung watched out for the left

but when the sound of alarms rang throughout the building, you just knew namjoon and hoseok had already gotten their hands on the jewels

but you werent leaving until namjoon had given the word

“get ready, v. this is gonna be a bumpy ride,” you huffed, aiming your gun to the right while taehyung looked through his scope “i’m always ready,” he smirked

with every bullet you fired, the burning sensation in your wound grew even more, but you couldnt let the pain distract you from one of the most important missions that you had been given

and if namjoon were to know the pain you were in, he wouldn’t let you out of headquarters for an entire month

once the first wave of guards were wiped out, namjoon’s voiced echoed throughout everyone’s intercoms, taehyung giving you a knowing look as you nodded your head

with the rush of adrenaline, you and taehyung made way for route B, never letting your guard down as you fetched a grenade from your pocket

once you entered a single hallway, you blew up the side the both of you had entered from and kept running

and as much as your lungs burned and the pain in your arm began to worsen, you couldnt let it bring you or anyone else down

the door at the end of the hallway swings open

and you’re more than relieved to see jimin and jungkook, even if your eyes had tricked you at first glance from their disguises

“quicken your pace slowpokes, the rest are already catching up,” jungkook teased, jogging off to start the truck while jimin made sure you came out of there before the soldiers could

once everyone had hopped into the truck, jimin checked your wounds for infections

but taehyung did an amazing job at keeping it clean and covered

“rj, any sign of rm or hope?” you groaned into your intercoms, jimin redoing your bandages as you looked out for any possible danger

but jin doesnt reply and your panic rises

jimin carefully ties up the bandage and watches over your frightened expression, your brows furrowing even more with every breath you took

“rj?rj?”

“calm down angel, he’s probably helping them in escaping. we’ll see them when we get back to headquarters, alright? remember the rule?” taehyung reassured you, looking at you through the rear-view mirror

“get back safe at all cost when he says the word,” you grumble, putting your attention to the grim scenery outside

something didnt feel right but orders were orders

once everyone alighted from the truck, jimin took out the necessary medicine for the wounds he had to treat

“if its just a cut, wash it and you’ll be fine,” jimin shooed the rest away as he tended to you on the sofa

“why does she get all the treatment,” taehyung raises a brow, tossing his bulletproof vest to the side

“because unlike some of you, she’s an actual angel,” jimin shrugged, picking out his tweezers and a cotton ball drenched in alcohol

“it’s gonna hurt but we cant have you with a bullet in your arm for the rest of your life,” he chuckled, handing you a handkerchief to bite and relieve the pain onto as he began his work

in half an hour, jimin managed to remove the bullet and close up the wound, not allowing the others to disturb you while you went to rest in your room

but all you could do was pace around your room, your fingers fidgeting around with anything you could get a hold of

a soft knock on your door made you think it was jimin

but when you finally see the face that had been in your head the past few hours, you let out a long and relieved sigh

“missed me too much?” he chuckled until you nearly knocked him down with your hug

“hell yeah i did. you think i wouldnt?” you mumbled into his sweaty and stained clothes

but you didnt mind because he was finally back, safe and sound and in one whole piece

“did your get your wound treated?” he asked, gently peeling you off of him to check your arm while you were too busy admiring his face

you were so in the moment to not realize namjoon staring back at you

“dont ever do that again,” you mumble, a slight tremore in your voice but your eyes remain in contact with his

“angel you know i had to-”

“how can i let my childhood crush run out there like some dumbass. you think i can stand to lose my best friend?”

you were teary-eyed at this point, while he looked back at you in confusion and concern

“wait what was the first part?” he muttered, unsure if what he heard was true or not

“i like you a lot you idiot. why do you think i always cuddle up to you after a mission, or when you’re the one who worries the hell out of me the most or that-”

you were cut off with his lips planted on yours and you could feel his lips curl into a small smile

once he parted away from you, his smile stretched so far that his dimples seemed to deepen with every second

while your cheeks turned bright red under his gaze

“i’ve been waiting too long to hear that from you,”

“then you should’ve grown a pair and confessed to me, you handsome dork,” playfully nudging him

until namjoon once again, loses his footing and tumbles onto the floor, bringing you along with him onto the hard floor

the both of you groaned in pain

but your door swings open, revealing jimin with bag of medicine but his face who once had a concerned smile on his face turned into a devilish smirk

“so the lover birds finally confessed huh? and already skipping many bases,,, i’ll just leave so the both of you can continue,”

jimin giggled like a high school girl as he closed the door

but the shout of announcement that vibrated the walls was a clear sign that the others were NOT going to let the both of you live

REWATCH 101: “THE MORTAL CUP”

Here are my thoughts on the very first episode of Shadowhunters. I think I might keep this format for the following episodes.

Also, this rewatch will be random and sporadic. So, there’s that. Enjoy!

GENERAL NOTES

Jace bumps into Clary – not very professional, Jace: you’re invisible, not intangible. More importantly, though, Clary has the sight!

Clary introduces herself to examiners who are almost as unwelcome to her as the audience is. We learn about her drawing skills and that she sees weird symbols and demons around. Again, Clary has the sight!

Oh, yeah. Dot runs an antique shop. Also, hello there, Mortal Cup.

Are Clary and Maureen friends? Or is Maureen friends with Simon, who is friends with Clary? I need to know to evaluate how gratuitous this exposition conversation about Clary’s family history is.

Clary unintentionally draws an angelic rune. Because Clary has the sight! I cannot stress this enough.

Too bad Jace didn’t notice the angelic rune on the van. That could’ve been interesting. But, guys, Jace says it! Clary has the sight!!

Jace has a rather intimate approach to interrogating a Shax Demon. Weird take, but okay, Ed Decter. I guess Alec is… jealous? Mildly bored? Uncomfortable? I’m uncomfortable.

Why does Izzy refer to Alec as “my” brother and not “our” brother, I’ll never know. She refers to Jace as her “brother in every way” in the next episode, so there’s that.

Great scene where Izzy is forcing Alec’s suspicion to be based on jealousy while Alec corrects her and says it’s caution. We know he won the argument because he got the last word.

First “all the legends are true”!! Immediately followed by “we’re shadowhunters”, which is not a legend, but okay.

we learn she’s been out for two days when Simon calls. This is important because it will be the longest episode timeline wise in this entire show.

Oh, this is the first time I notice the shadow passing behind Simon at 34:46. Cool.

Clary has been drawing runes without knowing about them because, you got it, Clary has the sight!

Is this “choose your path” scene with Jace and Simon pulling Clary to literal opposite directions a lot on the nose? Yes. Do I like it? Kind of. Also, here is the theme of the episode, kids. Clary’s two conflicting halves pulling her apart. She has to choose one or she’ll break.

THE GOOD

That whole teaser is great. A nice and functional introduction to the shadowhunters, the existence of demons, and to the fact that Clary is different than your regular mundane girl. Zero exposition is done by dialogue. Effective and compelling.

Clary and Simon's friendship is the sweetest.

Luke’s terse response about Jocelyn creates some believability later on when he tells the Circle members he doesn’t care about the Frays. Same thing with Luke’s running out of patience with Jocelyn’s lies to Clary.

The dynamic between Clary and Dot is endearing. I’m buying their affection to one another and Dot being worried about what is waiting for Clary now that Jocelyn finally decided to stop gaslighting her own daughter.

“Mom, we’ve had the Talk. I’m good.” Even in the pilot, Clary is shown to be in charge of her own sexuality. Well done, show.

Good for Magnus for pointing out that erasing Clary’s memories won’t protect her. Also, good for the character of Magnus for going along with it anyway. Let’s hope this exchange between Magnus and Jocelyn gets referenced later on.

The entire re-introduction dynamic between Alec and Izzy, Izzy and Jace, Alec and Jace is absolute gold. It humanizes these three suspicious-looking superpowered people we saw in the teaser. Too bad we don’t get a little reaction from Jace to Alec’s snarky “platinum”. But we do get amazing characterization through their dialogue: Alec doesn’t care for mundanes and is the cynical one, Izzy has something to do with science and is the fun one, Jace doesn’t care about the rules and is the soldier-minded one.

Clary checking out Simon when he’s shirtless is there for a reason and I’ll never stop pointing it out.

Clary is a feminist icon and so she tries to help the “girl’ about to be attacked by the crazy dude with the glowing sword. After that, we get a great fight sequence where we infer that the Lightwoods are expert fighters, Alec and Jace act like Parabatai, Izzy kicks ass, and Clary yells and freaks out like the untrained eighteen-year-old she is.

Valentine mercilessly killing that mouthy Circle Member for insulting Jocelyn both works to establish how dangerous Valentine is and to show that his experiments are crazy.

THE BAD

Clary’ unawareness about Simon’s crush on her would be less annoying if she didn’t use such a flirty tone when praising his intelligence. Same thing with “That’s how I know it’s cool” and “You do not tattoo my neck. That creepy.” Whoever told Kat McNamara to use this pretentious sexy tone of voice was wrong. Clary sounds much better when she’s being sassy instead of flirty.

Honestly, “demonic murders” isn’t subtle at all. But aren’t the demons draining mundane blood artistically inclined? Who’d thought they would leave their dead mundane victims looking like a perfume ad?

No, Maureen. A single mother raising her only daughter by herself isn’t suspicious. It’s 2016, get on with the- Oh, wait. Jocelyn just took out a seraph blade and activated it for no reason at all besides being an act break. This level of needless drama requires a sensible third party. I take it back.

So, why exactly can’t Simon hear Jace? People will hear Clary’s phone ringing in a couple of episodes, so why is Jace’s voice inaudible now?

There is no in-context reason for the Circle Members not to mention Jocelyn’s marriage to Valentine as they try to recruit her back. Other than keeping that information hidden from the viewers, that is. But I guess it’s convenient that they don’t mention that in this private conversation.

Why would Valentine’s base be in Chernobyl? I get that they force warlocks to work for them. But still, why? Because it’s evil?

THE INTERESTING

The focus on the missing biscotti is a little heavy-handed, but it consists mostly in a visual-only plot point, so that’s good.

It’s curious that Jocelyn introduces the Shadow World to Clary using a stele. That will eventually be Clary’s greatest weapon as a shadowhunter. She even uses it to stab a demon, her greatest move as a shadowhunter.

Simon singing “Forever Young” will always be a good foreshadowing. Also, this is the start of the show’s good use of Alberto’s musical talents.

The Circle Members recognize Jocelyn in Clary. Too bad they didn’t have Kat McNamara playing young-Jocelyn in the flashbacks. Give her some bangs and maybe a different tone of red. Kat can do a very good badass and it would highlight the differences between Clary and her mother at her age.

Clary spills out her MO in the first episode. “I’m not interested in being a part of your supernatural fight club. I just want to find my mom. The rest of it – whatever it is – all that I care about is finding my mother.” The warnings were all there and we missed it.

i guess i should make a journal for the past few days. as good a time as any. as AMY. heh. cuz shes super good and amazing. heh.

uh...... lessee.... for the two days after the last journal i just. hung out at the house while silly worked. i managed to not keep her in bed and make her late the second day. hung out a lot, watched more adventure time, worked on my tumblr filter script (lie. i judt ran it on my main. 200 posts / day is a bitchhhh) , played a good amount of ds3 (to pointof tetris effect at a couple points the nexg few days)

also did some like. helpful tasks. washed some dishes (undone quicklu, but. eh). not enough, mot as much as i shouldve, but... i tried i guess.

alao we've like. said the same thing at the dame time a Lot while ive been here and its like. nice. its really nice. same wavelength! i feel so close go her.

oh! alxo night before last we went grocery shoping. got food for prolly enoygh for the two weeks, but i guess we'll see. also a cheesecake! it was.... echausting. hily fuck it was exhaysting. jesus. the store was big and it took like 3 hours and $200 to get everything but. we did itttt.

we both mentionef that like. it felt nice to like. have a full fridge 2gether. cuz. it feels like were gonna have a futjre togetjer? u know. like that is. i love her a lot and it feels good for this to feel like a home for a little while. we hope that it can be so in tbe future.

so YESTERDAY she finally FINALLY taught me how to play magic the gathering. it was. a long time coming. but she brought me into the store and like. sat me down w some regulars and had me play commander. i played moooostly her snake deck, so like.that was fun!! i kept talki g about how i woulda gotten lorescale Coatl up to 39/39 and flying, had i like. gotten q more turn. but on that game D was running a mill deck that was. extremely long to play (that game took like ~>2 hours ugh), and was very bery annoying, so i didnt get to actually do that.

but it was fun! part of me wants to blog everything, but i dont think i will.

im glad to be able to use silly's decks, bc i dont think i want to make my own. im considering making a cheap angel deck or smth, but we'll see if yhat actually ends up happening.

i also met her girlfriend Iz, who is sweet. i played magic w her fkr a while, which was fun! she was runni g an annoying mono black deck (i kkow all these... these Terms and Words now, its incredible...)

shes sweet and i think i like her. dunno if enough to date yet (which makes me Partially regret flirting w her so much in the groupchat but. hey)

talked w her some, mostly about magic, hung out while silly closed the store, pet her cat, silly discovered that cyddling w TWO girlfriends is very nice (not rhat id know ;;;;;;;), was good times. i dont think im as comfy w izzy physically yet as i may have implied in messages, which hopefully wull be rectified by the message i just sent her (my initial physical comfort with people varies, it depends very much on the person)

skip forward, me and silly make a pizza at home cuz were fuckin tired, she admonishes me for not eating for uh... like 11 hours or smth (that mornings bagel was VERY good tho omg), but adderall, so like... meh.

uh... i dont think anything else on yesterday...

today! we waaamted to go to the store at like. 2. but in actuality got there at like! 330.

i went back to sleep cuz im a losenerd, and she. made this breakfast casserole thing. which hse put into a bagel abd brought to me bc i guess shes the best person on the entire earth oh my GOD. jesus

skip... apparently she knows maximum the hormone and doesnt like them very much... fair fair. (cause for xeath)

came to the store agai. tofay. it was fun and good. iz didnt come in today, do played some more with regulars. played w what is apparently called a blink deck, which revolvea arounf exiling cards then immediately bringing them back, to capitalize on "when this enters battlefield, do smth" cards. neat!

i DID actually manage to win today!!! the victory was. literally handed to me, but like. thats fine! i was playing silly's uhhh... elintor the masked? idr her name :( the mask planewalker! deck, which. i had SO much land, most of wh8ch was enchanfed. meaning it could be tapped then untapped w eljntor's thing, then tapped again for DOUBLE MANA. i mean. i had like 9/turn even b4 that but. BUT. i also had. i think i drew 3 creatures total. bit anyway. i had the white card that gave me a life whenever a creature was put on tge board (and also, w another enchantment, made all non-me creagurss and enchantments enter the board tapped, so. nya). so... rob had a card what dealt one damGe to all other players whenevr he puta. creature on the board. then he played united forces, which lets each player commit X mana to create X 1/1 soldier tokens on all players' boards. so. we made 28 white soldier tokens on everyones board. this killed perry, ans gave me, uh. 56 life (84 - 28). i then attacked ron for 28 w the soldiers, and drew sacred mesa, which lets me sacrifice 2 mana (1 any color, 1 white, but i had so many cards that said "this land can instead be tapped for 2 of any color, so like. ueah) to create a 1/1 flying pegasus token. so i. ended the game w 44 white 1/1 tokens. goblins get fucked.attack w my ssoldiers cuz his were tapped, so brought him down to 7 life. i didng catch what he did w the enchantment, but i think he said he like. put a copy of every creature on my side of the board onto his board, and then. cipying that enchantment 3 times. so. holy FUCK. wow. BUT those all came in tapped and i had 18 flying yokens, so. i still won! yay!!!! i won a game of magic!!!!!

goblin decks scare me. stop running krenko you fucks. exponential goblins goddamn

silly would come by every so often and like. look over my dhoulder and say "oh that was dumb whyd u use fabricate for thay" which is fair. but also god i love her. (i used fabricate for a mana generator insteaf of lightning greaves. whateverrrr) i love her so much dear god. i wish i coukd help w the store more, but. on the same time i also. dont enjoy working. so. maybe part time.

hm. what ekse. oh yeah i kove her so much.

by the end of the night it was just. me and her, rob and the two regulars i started out llaying w yestwrday. theyre sweet, i like them. theyre married. the dude calls me honey smtimes, which is. kinda weird? dunno how i feel about that. i guess fine. its gender-nice, but still a lil uncomfy. otherwise i like em fien, though. but they talked abouy moving into sillys apt. so thats cool!! better than her current (awful, terrible, lazy / horrifically depressed / manchild roomate, who doesnt clean ever) roomate. i was reading the monster of the week gamebook thruout, which i... bought, for some reason. idk. oh also i wanna make a fallen angel divine, because im... predictableeee. also a conspiracy thworist whos just a trans woman w way too much time and really weird hobbies (throwing knices, butterfly knife, net friends, etc). also a spooky. i speny like. 3 hours reading thr7 the monster of the week book while ppl played magic around me. i kinda wish i hadnt bought it, but hey! its neat c:

oh, also i didnt take adderall today. i dont think it went toooo bad, i think i like. was meaner and less thohghtful with what i said, but like. i guess thats better than feared. i took a caffeine pill (200mg) at ariund 10 which is. prolly why im wide awake right now. i regret doing that, sincr from what shes said tmos gonna be big)

she says we gotta be at her moms by 4, for reasons she WONT TELL ME. bit she says its part of one of her plans, i ASSUME the romantic one? im kind of afraid that ill like. no-sell it unwillingly because im abroke and soulless human being, but uh. i guess rhats thw risks we take to be alive :shrug: im excited. were also going to a shop (diff one) tmo, which im Quite excited for, as ive only been in similar shops by accident before. also doing laundry!!! which is important ^_^

oh ysah. so we got white castle on the way home. its. yeah she was r8ght. mediocre-at-best sliders. onions are bad.

we also made a pizza. whifh i ate most of. i overate. sob.

she fell asleep halfway thry an episode of nailed it. cant blame her, she seemed really tired. i hipe i dont disturb her rwst. and i feel so utterly blessed thay i can be around her.

ih!! i also fell down the last few staies ywstersay. bruised my arms, but otherwise fine. it was. idk, it is nice to knoe that others worry fir me and like me. she was very concerned. i love her.
