If it’s okay to ask, is there any inspiration behind mars as a character? They seem very interesting as a character both in design and personality :)
a bunch of different real life people and characters went into creating mars! thats the case for every character i make.
originally, mars and laika's story was a means of expressing my own re-parenting of myself and the kid i used to be. i often think of myself as an adult on the outside carrying little-kid me along for the journey, and so i have to take care of them where i was often left uncared for.
but, as ive been writing laika's, and now i have a kid of my own, i think laika and mars are many different people i know. i think, the longer i live, i realize im every single character at some point in this story, and my kid is, and my boyfriend is, and my grandmother/friends/family. we just play different roles in different people's stories.
