I'm so tired of the way tv is working right now. And it's not working. Seasons are getting shorter, and shows are canceled before they even get a chance to prove themselves. Shows with new concepts often get the worst of it, and it just makes me so sad to think of all the fantastic stories we're losing because of a system that prioritizes profit over the art itself. I want to live with these characters over years. Get to know them and grow with them and not watch as their stories are crammed into six episodes or even worse, go entirely unfinished.

I seriously hope that Hollywood media just fails for a while so companies will finally realise how important their actors and writers are. I hope they come to see that ai can’t be used for everything. Also I find it funny how these companies think that we’re not going to support the strikers just because we won’t get some new Hollywood media for a while. I think they forgot that Hollywood isn’t the only place in the world creating amazing tv shows and movies. We have k-dramas, Thai-drama, anime, Tollywood and Bollywood movies. This isn’t the end of entertainment for us. If we don’t want to watch foreign media we still have old shows and movies that are great. I mean I can finally start watching those old Hollywood movies I’ve been planning to watch. So sure threaten us with the lack of media…we still having everything we need. The only person who’s in trouble because of the strikes is the goddamn companies. So screw you and have fun not making any money.

"Imagine if every teacher in America went on strike at the same time? Society would crumble in like, an hour. Their demands would be met immediately. It's the perfect crime! :D" - Drew Gooden

Radical ideas, but:
Pay people appropriately and enough to live comfortably
Health insurance shouldn't be tied to your job, universal healthcare
Tax the rich
Billionaires shouldn't exist
TRICKLE DOWN DOESN’T WORK; THE ULTRA WEALTHY JUST HOARD IT AND CRUSH EVERYONE ELSE
Getting really tired of capitalism; it doesn't work and is literally destroying the world

A federal judge on Friday upheld a finding from the U.S. Copyright Office that a piece of art created by AI is not open to protection. The ruling was delivered in an order turning down Stephen Thaler’s bid challenging the government’s position refusing to register works made by AI. Copyright law has “never stretched so far” to “protect works generated by new forms of technology operating absent any guiding human hand,” U.S. District Judge Beryl Howell found.
Yes, obviously.
How could AI created art be copyrighted if it's just literally a conglomerate of work that in many cases is already copyrighted?
This means the studios would presumably not be able to copyright their content, in the case that they use AI generated scripts for example, as those scripts would have depended on stolen work to begin with.

Speaking as a Sri Lankan whose country saw a general strike for the first time in forty years during the historic anti-government protests last year, I am so very excited for USAmericans to experience one for themselves. On one hand, it signals that the economic conditions are so dire that the majority of workers now have more to lose by going to work than not. That working conditions are impacting even the upper middle class. On the other hand– every. Single. Workers'. Union. In the. Damn. Country. The entire place a ghost town in a once-in-a-lifetime show of solidarity against the elite. You cannot imagine the exhilaration. You cannot imagine the show of power, the way the government and their crony capitalists and the fuckwits used to standing on people's necks piss their pants in fear. I think every country should see a general strike at least once every generation. It's not sustainable, but it doesn't have to be; it's to signal to the bosses that beyond this line is when the lid blows off this pressure cooker.
This means that shit is going to get damn ugly for weeks and months until the run up. It's going to primarily be a war of propaganda, because the bigger and more diverse the movement, the more cracks there will be between you to exploit. You're gonna have to get chill about a lot of things very quickly. You gotta get used to standing next to and holding the line with people you wouldn't want to spit on if they were on fire at any other time, with your eyes only on the prize. You're going to have to learn to support all kinds of problematic people without valorizing or demonizing them. Coalition building is political action at its most pragmatic and utilitarian; you don't need to share a moral page or be best buddies with people when pooling your resources against a common enemy. Idealogues don't win battles, coalitions do.
As for the success of our general strike, the President and his government rejected the unions' demands and refused to step down. Two weeks later, fifty houses of the government MPs all over the country burned down in one night, and a mob breeched the Prime Minister's mansions and set it on fire*. The PM resigned the next day, and the government was dissolved.
But that's a completely unrelated anecdote. 💅🏽
*Edit: it wasn't unions or any organized body that committed the arsons. It was widespread, spontaneous citizen reaction to a brutal attack on our largest peaceful protest site. Organized protest prevents this kind of escalation. The point is that when these attempts are not recognised, physical violence will be the inevitable outcome. As Martin Luther King said: "Riots are the language of the unheard".

The New York Film and Television Union Coalition is praising a pair of identical bills pending in New York State that would “prohibit applicants to the Empire State film production credit from using artificial intelligence that would displace any natural person in their productions.” The coalition is made up of SAG-AGTRA, the WGA East, the Directors Guild of America, the Cinematographers Guild (IATSE Local 600), the Editors Guild (IATSE Local 700), United Scenic Artists (IATSE Local 829), IATSE Local 52, and Teamsters Local 817. The use of artificial intelligence in the production of film and TV shows is a key strike issue for both the Writers Guild and SAG-AFTRA, which have been on strike since May 2 and July 14, respectively. The DGA’s new contract, which was ratified in June, contains guardrails on its use, and IATSE, which will begin contract negotiations next year, has said that artificial intelligence “threatens to fundamentally alter employers’ business models and disrupt IATSE members’ livelihoods.”

every writing community should be standing in solidarity — if not actively protesting — with the wga right now.
and it’s honestly sickening to see people saying a.i. and other formats could create good work to replace what these beautiful humans create.

how can fans who don't have funds to donate to strike funds - also support the creators' strike? I'd love some ideas.

Please, please spread the word around and help Writers/Actors!!
It is not okay to let Studios and Streamers walk over hard working people that give us the content that we watch daily!
I would like to let you know that many actors and writers are not able to take breaks so they can pay for rent for their own homes.
Just because the show does well does not mean they are paid fairly for what they do!!
Even if their part is big.
Let us not forget the artists who are also getting hit hard by AI!! So please do not use AI sites or apps as you’re only supporting them.
Going forward with this please do not hate on actors/writers/artists who “only” post about it and do nothing. THEY ARE DOING SOMETHING.
Not many of them have the money to donate or help voice the problem in public.
So if you have the time to write a comment complaining about what they’re not doing then you have the time to spread the word around and help.
Not every actor/writer/artist is a millionaire/billionaire.
SO PLEASE PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD AROUND.
I will be tagging multiple things to help spread this. (Remember a lot of things will be affected and is by this.)

Joan Is Awful: Black Mirror episode is every striking actor’s worst nightmare
“A sticking point of the near-inevitable Sag-Aftra strike is the potential that AI could soon render all screen actors obsolete. A union member this week told Deadline: ‘Actors see Black Mirror’s Joan Is Awful as a documentary of the future, with their likenesses sold off and used any way producers and studios want. We want a solid pathway. The studios countered with ‘trust us’ – we don’t.’ ...
“If a studio has the kit, not to mention the balls, to deepfake Tom Hanks into a movie he didn’t agree to star in, then it has the potential to upend the entire industry as we know it. It’s one thing to have your work taken from you, but it’s another to have your entire likeness swiped.
“The issue is already creeping in from the peripheries. The latest Indiana Jones movie makes extensive use of de-ageing technology, made by grabbing every available image of Harrison Ford 40 years ago and feeding it into an algorithm. Peter Cushing has been semi-convincingly brought back to life for Star Wars prequels, something he is unlikely to have given permission for unless the Disney execs are particularly skilled at the ouija board. ITV’s recent sketch show Deep Fake Neighbour Wars took millions of images of Tom Holland and Nicki Minaj, and slapped them across the faces of young performers so adeptly that it would be very easy to be fooled into thinking that you were watching the real celebrities in action.
“Unsurprisingly, Sag-Aftra members want this sort of thing to be regulated, asking for their new labour contract to include terms about when AI likenesses can be used, how to protect against misuse, and how much money they can expect from having their likenesses used by AI.”
