Two weeks into tweeting at Netflix for a Midnight Mass physical release and I’m starting to worry that there is a younger generation that is so far removed from Blu-rays/DVDs that they don’t even understand the appeal of them over streaming. Blu-rays/DVDs = Blooper reel! Deleted scenes! Audio Commentary! Behind the Scenes/Making Of Features! Concept Art! More in-depth interviews! Sometimes hidden easter egg fun stuff! If you’ve ever searched on YouTube for the blooper reel or a deleted scene of a favorite show recently made, a lot of the time it’s only on YouTube because someone ripped it off their Blu-ray/DVD copy and uploaded it!! If the Blu-ray/DVD doesn’t exist in the first place, that doesn’t happen!! I’m just...are we really doing this? Are we really letting society as a whole forget about how fucking great owning a physical copy of your favorite show/movie is?!

We live in capitalism. Its power seems inescapable. So did the divine right of kings. Any human power can be resisted and changed by human beings. Resistance and change often begin in art, and very often in our art, the art of words.

had plans to travel to my hometown and now I can’t since my partner may have had a stroke awhile back and we ignored it due to not having health insurance and now his arm has been randomly stop working and then I woke up to a homophobic Facebook comment in a damn Baldurs gate 3 group and still have to go to work while rushing back to check at my partner in the hospital later and I just hate how I have to wear a smile at work and be positive when I feel broken. We can’t even get a fucking MRI apparently for my partner yet so god forbid he did have a stroke.
today is a traumatic anniversary of when my dad temporarily paralyzed and almost killed my mom. I’m fucking tired y’all. I’m smiling at work because this kid I work with needs me to, but I feel like my chest is caving in.

The moment Andrew put Neil's hand on his chest and Neil repeated Andrew's words back to him; "I won't be like them, and I won't let you let me be.", is such an important moment in their romance.
It's where Andrew starts really letting go. He gave Neil ground. And he didn't take it because he knew better than to accept the nonverbal permission. Giving ground doesn't mean it's ready to be taken. Andrew had always made his needs very clear, and his boundaries.
Neil took exactly what Andrew gave. No more. No less. A hand in the center of his chest. To an outsiders perspective it might not be very important but to Andrew it would've been everything.
It means he could fully trust Neil, as much as he is capable of. It's further proof that Neil wouldn't take advantage of him, push too hard, none of it. It means that for once this nothing didn't have to stay nothing. It could be something. Maybe not now, but in the future.
Andrew gave Neil a key and called it home, and Neil gave Andrew safety and called it something.

i was stuck in traffic for a long time and it gave me the time to let my "once upon a time i used to write fanfiction before capitalism killed my soul" self loose for a while so i'm just gonna pretend i've been granted the gift of vision
because it was weird they took the time to show us how the blackbeard outfit sank to the bottom of the sea (mind you, for the amount of light in that shot, i'm gonna assume it wasn't that deep, also it was like 5 minutes before Izzy said they docked so they were near land after all)
it was also weird to see how ed gets rid of the outfit because we see him on the preview for the season finale wearing it -i mean, actually emerging from the sea with it.
so what a coincidence it is for ed to be a fisherman now (don't get me started on "the fish is whatever" discourse because i'm 100% siding with stede on this one), because they will either show us another fisherman pulling out blackbeard's clothes from the water just as Ed decides to go back to land and check on Stede or
he's about to jump again into the water (just as we've seen him do before to rescue stede) and, with the power of gay, he will cross upon his clothes that are not just drifting through the sea: they are tied in a net and under a cannon ball to keep them down below.
so you might ask: mmmmm have we seen that image before? and i'm gonna say HELL YES.
because hornigold tied ed to a rock and then threw said rock off the cliff to make ed sink, and die, and be forgotten.
but then merman stede came to the rescue.
and now it's time for merman ed to show up (was i dreaming or did max australia confirmed that the title of the season finale was "mer-men" or something like that?). not necessarily to rescue stede (he probably will, afterwards) but to rescue blackbeard who is now drowning.
because if stede appeared to ed as a sign of hope, a sign of light, this new ed is also that for the blackbeard who shelters under the kraken persona.
for years, ed has believed that he was a monster for killing his father. but he forgets that killing his father meant his mom would be safe (and if that makes you think of black pete turning around lucius' situation to let him see that, yes, he almost got killed, but he also LIVED, well congrats because i did too)
the kraken was born the day ed killed his father saved his mother and will be born again (the symbolism of him emerging from the sea, man, what a time to be alive) now that the love of his life stede and izzy and fang and frenchie and lucius and jim and pretty much the entire community that made him feel be part of something over the years need to be saved.
we're about to come full circle and see blackbeard's swan song, when he makes peace with the kraken and sees him not as a monster, but as a guardian. and can be at peace with the idea that he is both and he doesn't have to kill a part of him, but to embrace it and

“if i didn’t do this horribly despicable thing someone else would have, so that lets me off the hook” is just a fancy way of saying “i’m a steaming piece of shit from a worthless asshole, and i’m fine with it”

There’s been a push to make workplaces more accepting of neurodivergence or mental illness recently and that’s great, honestly, but there’s one thing about it that has me frustrated.
I really dislike all the emphasis on the person who is neurodivergent or mentally ill to do so much of the work.
Like in some ways it makes sense: the people who need the changes should be the ones in charge. But sometimes it feels like the good idea that “the people who are margalized should have the largest voice in the room” gets used as “and if those marginalized are having a rough time, well they should have just disclosed their situation.”
It feels like the blame goes from “society is ableist/unaccepting of diffeeence” to “if you had just SAID SO well it would be fine!” Without considering the many very good reasons people might not want to speak up. Stigma has gotten better but it’s not gone.
You can add all the stress balls and wellness seminars into your workspace as you want, but for me personally, that doesn’t mean jack shit if the only way I MAYBE can get slight flex in my lunch hours for doctors appointments is to disclose my mental illness to not only my Supervisor, but my Boss and HR. You can add in discounts to Yoga class, but if the only talk of mental stuff in a workplace is about hypothetical “other” people, can I really be blamed for not exactly wanting to play those cards?
Is it really my fault that I don’t want to label myself when that label might become the first thing people associate me with?
I’m not saying people shouldn’t do those things like get accommodations: they absolutely should and I hope no one has to fight for them. I can get defeatist at times and I want to be very clear that getting what you need is worth it and if anyone gives you shit, they’re dicks. I just wish that that more concrete policies to help people who are neurodivergent or mentally ill didn’t require folks to share what they might not be ready to talk about.
And that if that isn’t possible, to not act like the only barrier to acceptance in the workplace is created by those who need it the most.
