"Honey..wh..what is this?"

"Can't you read? God, and I thought Alex was the only illiterate man in town-"

"I know what it says! But..I don't understand. Did I do something wrong?"

"Besides being a leech on my income for the past year and not doing a damn thing to make up for it....no."

"..are you crazy? I HAVE been doing my part! Just..take these back to Lewis and tell him you changed your mind. I'm not signing them."

"I don't need your signature. Just mine is enough to finalize it. I've already gotten everything packed for you..since you're too goddamn lazy to do it yourself."

"....what?" Tears stung Shane's eyes as he shakily set the stack of papers on the table, his vision blurring. He stared at you, seeing not an ounce of remorse on your face..but instead pure hatred. "Why would you do this behind my back? I-I thought...you-"

"What? You thought I loved you? Hah." The brief laugh that left your lips was cold. "Who could love a messed-up lowlife like you, Shane? I have a farm to take care of, a community center to restore..I can't have you slowing me down. It was a fun little fling, but now you bore me. I gotta get serious about my work."

"That's...all I was to you? A "fling"?!" A hurtful scowl formed on his face, hands shaking. "What about everything we've-?!"

"I only pitied you. And y'know, if I didn't care about Jas growing up without a father figure..I would've left you in the forest that night. I only stayed and married you to make them happy. But you blew your chance to get your act together..they're gonna be so disappointed in you."

As much as he wanted to respond with a snarky "I didn't know there was a time limit"...he was frozen on the spot, unable to say anything.

What could he say?

This was all so sudden...and just when he thought you two were doing so well and he was starting to have a genuinely positive outlook on life..

He made the horrid mistake of checking the mailbox and finding the dreaded papers.

"I'll say this was 50,000 gold well-spent." You grabbed the papers off the table, looking at the broken man before holding out your hand. "Give me that necklace. I'm gonna sell it."

"No..." Shane shook his head and clutched the mermaid pendant, tears streaking his face as he backed into the corner. "I...I-I'm so sorry, I'll try to be better! Just tell me what I can fix, a-and I'll-!!"

Suddenly you pulled out a dagger and swiped at him, causing him to flinch and shield himself, eyes squeezing shut in anticipation-

Yet he wasn't injured, but when he saw his pendant in your hands now...he felt as though you actually twisted that dagger deep into his heart.

He collapsed to his knees, devastated as you sheathed your weapon and pocketed the amulet you once tied around his neck at your wedding.

By your hands, you two were bonded in matrimony...

And by your hands, that bond was severed.

"There's nothing to talk about. I'm sick of pretending that I care for some lazy ungrateful fuck. Goodbye, Shane."

And with that, you stormed out of the house..and he was left there on the floor, his sobs filling the silence in the now empty cabin.

It was already late when you returned from your mining trip, and once you finished putting the spoils of your expedition into the shipping bin, you yawned and stretched.

The time was 1:10 AM...and your energy was super drained.

You figured Shane was already sound asleep. The idea of crawling into that cozy bed and cuddling with the man you loved had you eager to take off your boots and put your tools away.

However upon opening the door..you immediately caught a faint whiff of beer, and it left a sinking pit in your stomach.

He did bring home a six-pack case today, and he promised to have it in moderation.

But the kitchen trash showed clear evidence of recently-opened cans.

Four out of the six, in fact.

'Oh man..it happened again..'

You knew that he wasn't gonna be able to quit cold turkey just like that. It wasn't a habit he could flip off like a lightswitch, and that's a fact you've come to accept.

Although he had a few beers from time to time, it was nothing like before. And he would always let you know if he was having some....so to realize he drank over half the case tonight alone was alarming.

Why? You were only gone for a few hours..

You entered the bedroom, finding Shane still awake, hunched over on the bed's edge with his face in his hands. He looked completely torn up, and you've never seen him this bad since..

"Shane, sweetheart?"

Startled, he looked up at you, revealing his eyes to be puffy and red from crying. "O-Oh..hi. You..y-you came back?" He hoarsely asked.

"Of course I did..without having to visit Harvey, thank god." You walked over and sat beside him, frowning. "But more importantly are you okay? What's wrong?"

He tried to respond, but the memories of that nightmare made him physically incapable of doing so...and fresh tears welled in his eyes.

A choked sob came out, and as quickly as he tried covering it up--it failed as similar heartbreaking noises followed.

You didn't waste any time pulling him into a hug.

Leaning against you, he sobbed into your neck, soaking the collar of your shirt in tears. But you just hushed him and rubbed his back. He didn't smell too heavily of beer, although it made you wonder what happened tonight that was bad enough to make him relapse.

Was it...you?

Was you being away stressing him out?

Did he think you wouldn't come back-

"[Y/n]...you sure you..really love me? And all of this isn't...a-a joke?" He hiccupped softly.

Those questions made your heart sink, and you briefly pulled away to gaze at him in sadness. You knew he was still struggling with his self-confidence and self-image, often comparing himself to a "squishy bag of flesh" and feeling "too old", but for him to doubt your love?

Even after talking him off a cliff?

Even after going to the gridball game where you shared that first kiss?

Even after giving him the bouquet and mermaid pendant?

"After everything we've been through, you still don't think that I love you?" You asked softly, not with anger, but with worry.

"Just look at me, and look at every other guy in this town. You could'a had a doctor, someone who can still play gridball, a writer who lives by the sea...even that emo guy seems cool. But you chose me..."

With a sniffle, he clutched the mermaid pendant with trembling fingers. "...this pathetic..l-lowlife who doesn't do shit on this farm. I swear I'd change and get my act together, but I'm letting you down again...j-just like everyone else. And I'm so sorry...I'm such a failure." He sobbed harder.

"Wha..that's nonsense. You do more for me and this farm than you could possibly know." You cupped his face, feeling his cheeks grow wet with fresh tears. "You feed the animals, you water any crops my sprinklers could've missed...and those pepper poppers you give me help keep my energy up in the mines so I can come home safely."

"But..I can't even microwave them right." He whined. "I wanna have the energy to cook like you do-"

"What do you mean?" You frowned. "Last week, you made me a killer omelet when I went to bed angry over a Pepper Rex burning my favorite cardigan."

Shane blinked, searching his foggy brain for that memory, before it dawned on him that he actually DID wake up extra early to surprise you with an omelet he cooked on the stove. Made from Charlie's eggs, of course.

"Ah, that's right..well...I guess I'm good at some things.." He sniffled, slowly calming down.

You chuckled softly, thumbing away the rest of his tears, your fingers brushing over his scruff. He recently shaved it, but it grew back rather quickly--like a crop infused with deluxe growth fertilizer.

"You're good at being my partner, and keeping me company after a long day." You kissed him in the lips. "I love you, Shane. Nothing will change that, even if you have relapses."

"I love you, too..and 'm sorry. I just had this really bad nightmare, and I couldn't fight the urge tonight."

"I understand, I'm not angry." Bringing him back into a hug, you sighed as he squeezed you tightly. "Did you wanna talk about it? I know it's late but..I'm sure it'll help us both."

"...you promise not to laugh?"

"I promise."

"I..had a nightmare you divorced me."

"Huh..really?"

"Yeah, you filed the papers behind my back and said some...pretty hurtful stuff, like how it's "the best 50,000 gold you've ever spent", how what we had was just "a fling", and...how I'm leeching off of you." The longer he went on, the more he struggled to swallow back further tears. "And..you took the pendant back by force. With that dagger you always keep on you."

"....."

"I-It's stupid, but it...just felt so real. And when I woke up and you didn't come back from the mines yet, I thought maybe..it actually happened."

"Shane." You shook your head, leaning back again to bring his face into your hands. "No way would I EVER put that much gold towards something that stupid. This farmwork..it's so much to one person to handle, and I'm forever grateful you're here to help me. You're doing your best, and that's all I could ever ask for."

"Thank you.." He nodded, finally realizing that what he dreamed was nothing more than a ridiculous nightmare.

You smiled and kissed him again, making this one last a bit longer before you pulled away. "I'll get you some water, okay? I don't want my baby to have a hangover in the morning."

Shane sheepishly returned the smile, allowing you to get up and go to the kitchen, while he got comfortable in bed and patiently waited for your return. His hand went to the pendant on his chest, relieved it was still there.

Even though you were probably dead-tired from the mines..you still took the time to care for him when he hit another low. You didn't see him as a chore or a leech on your life.

You saw him as your husband, your soulmate..someone you were willing to love through thick and thin even when some days were harder than others.

Of course, his depression might tell him otherwise, and manifest those insecurities into nightmares.

But you'll still be here for him no matter what.

y’know i know a lot of people talk about how they love shane and seb because they’re the damaged men in the game, and like same 100%, but i also see a lot of people kinda dismiss sam as a golden retriever, positive, happy character. but if you really think about it, sam fits into the same category as seb and shane too. like:

1. his mother expresses multiple times to the farmer that although she loves her children, she very much longs to have a life where she doesn’t have to constantly worry about kids. in a way a part of her deep down wishes that sam and vincent didn’t really exist and it tears her apart and vincent isn’t necessarily old enough to grasp the concept, but sam is and you know he notices it. this is the woman who raised him and (i at least headcanon him) as someone who is very observant. he definitely notices these behaviors coming from her. and idk about you, but having an inkling that your mother is unhappy with her life in any capacity would really screw me up personally.

2. his father went to WAR. like fully went to war and i’m thinking he was in the army for 2 and a half years at least because he has a corporal badge (even though it’s upside down) but that means that he was away for bootcamp, then deployed, and if sam is around what? like 19? 20? that means that he became the “man of the household” at 17 or 18. Because I personally believe Kent was away for three to three and a half years. Bootcamp for about 10 weeks, straight to a base for more training, and it seems as though the active war made it so he got deployed into action fairly quickly. So, not only did Sam have an absence where his father should have been during the years he became a young adult, but he has to adjust to his father coming back and struggling with PTSD and quite honestly being shellshocked. (i also believe kent was honorably discharged, meaning something bad happened to him in the war. perhaps it was the same event where he lost many of his friends, but i fully believe the war is still ongoing even when kent returns to the valley considering the traveling merchant is still smuggling things into the town.) all the memories he had of kent are just memories now because his father will never be the same as he was before. And sam KNOWS that! even vince notices it!

3. he’s literally a rebellious skater kid, one of his heart events is him getting in trouble WITH THE MAYOR because he’s skating where he’s not supposed to, AND he purposely tries to sabotage the soup for the potluck and leads in community service hours. he’s a teenage dirtbag baby! a misunderstood edgy kid who acts out because he doesn't know how to express his feelings! and on top of that, with his adhd he’s even more misunderstood and people don’t take him seriously at all. he gets scolded for things that he seemingly just can’t help all the time and that just hurts him and makes him act out even more.

4. sam is also a damaged individual - he’s just better at masking it. seb embraces the darkness and accepts that he is an outcast and doesn’t try to hide the fact he is. shane struggles with addiction and depression publicly and it’s not negative necessarily, but he can’t hide it from anyone. sam has a warped idea that he cannot show his ailments, physical or mental because he needs to be strong for his little brother and give an example of what he believes a man should be (and because of the patriarchal society he lives in he doesn’t know that he can be vulnerable because no one told him because the man who would have been able to explain that to him during the years he really needed to hear it wasn’t there). i fear he suffers a bit from toxic positivity and desperately tries to rely on hobbies to distract him from his reality.

long story short, sam is not just a silly guy, he has depth. i mean come on, he's best friends with sebastian for a reason! they’re similar in ways! he just doesn’t know how to talk about or express it. all this to say, sam is an interesting and deep character that shouldn’t be written off immediately by people.

Hi, how about oblivious farmer? Like half the town is in love with them and they give them hints they don't see. The farmer treats them as good friends and says they want to be friends with them forever lol. It would also be nice to see them compete with each other a bit (Especially Alex vs Sam, because I like them the most. But my character probably won't get involved with anyone because I'm a little afraid of them having kids. Of course I like kids and would be nice having children, but I just i heard that in sdv they are creepy and people turn them into birds, i'm a bit worried…so story almost taken out of my character's life in stardew valley). Sorry for writing so much and have a nice day

Oh Yoba, bless the heart of the oblivious Farmer. And bless the patience of all the bachelors and bachelorettes who are trying their best to make almost obvious hints to win the interest of the young and chaotic Farmer of the whole Valley. But the real chaos began when word got out that Farmer so-and-so didn't mind dating both guys and ladies. That is, the bachelors began their competition for the Farmer's heart, not realizing that the bachelorettes were also determined to win the Farmer for themselves. Moreover, each was for himself, and one individual has to have as many as 11 potential competitors.

Some left the "game" as soon as it started, not believing that they would have any chance (Penny, Shane, Maru and Sebastian), some began to show "aggressive" friendship to Farmer, almost sticking to them like a faithful dog that would bark and cackle at the sight of outsiders (Alex, Abigail Sam), while others did not employ any tactics, considering sincerity and friendship to be the key to winning hearts (Harvey and Emily). Some decided to go for the sly, and with the help of not too damaging friendship and mental health gossip cleverly push the competitors away from Farmer and win themselves over (Haley). And it also happens that some people were so caught up in the battle for young Farmer's heart that they didn't notice how they fell in love with each other (Elliott/Leah).

The married and adult residents of the Valley looked on in total shock. Someone, namely the parents of some of the bachelors (those same Jodi, Robin and Caroline) also tried to hint to Farmer that their son/daughter really liked them. Someone (Lewis) tried to talk sense into the love-crazed youngsters by nagging them to stop their "loving advances". The children (Jas, Vincent, and Leo) looked on with incomprehension, believing it was "just another grown-up fad" that they, alas, could not yet comprehend. How the others (Marnie, Willy, and Gus) laughed heartily at the whole thing, and how George grumbled at home because all that "love cacophony" kept him from watching TV. Also laughing heartily, the old adventurers (Marlon and Gil) genuinely didn't understand how their young Guild member could calculate sophisticated tactics against dangerous monsters, but can't figure out when someone is flirting with them (they even made a bet who would win, just for fun). Rasmodius shook his head and asked the Farmer if they had knocked over the love potion.

What's funny is that in the end the Farmer's choice fell on Krobus. Because they're a sweet, kind, cool monster, and they smell like licorice. Who would have thought that happiness can be found in stinking sewer drains. Although, given that diamonds or gold ore are found in some garbage cans of the residents of Stardew Valley, there is nothing to be surprised at all...

PS: Also yeah, you're right. Sometime, children in this game looks like a nightmare fuel 😅 And the fact than you can rid of them by turning them into pigeon... Oy vey.

Stardew Valley Headcannons: When the bachelors first meet you

Sebastian:

100% a grouch at first

Seb probably didn’t look forward to having someone new move in, because that means having to meet and talk to a completely new person

But he completely forgot about how much he hates people when he saw you

“Woah.. um, hey. You’re the new farmer here right?”

He plays his shock off as being surprised that someone new ACTUALLY came to Pelican Town

After your first interaction he doesn’t really know how to feel

How does he even talk to someone new?

And extremely good looking

It takes him awhile to open up and get comfortable with you, but give him a chance. It’s definitely worth it

Sam:

The exact opposite of Sebastian

Sam is stoked that someone new is moving in

Someone new that he can make friends with and maybe even for get into his music? Great!

He was so confident that your first meeting was gonna go great

That is until he saw you walking over to him

Poor boy turned into a blushing mess

Nobody told him that the farmer was hot

It’s been years since Sam has had a crush, so it’s safe to say he has no clue what to do with himself

He manages to not embarrass himself when you introduce yourself, surprisingly not stumbling on his words as much as he was expecting

Once you leave he puffs up a bit, confident that you didn’t notice his flustered demeanor

You definitely noticed, but he doesn’t need to know that

Shane:

When Shane was told that a farmer would be moving to town, he quite honestly didn’t care

Someone new to ignore him like everyone else? To judge him for his bad habits?

No thank you

The first time you talk he still hasn’t given up that sentiment

“What? Leave me alone.”

After a few days of you greeting him whenever you cross paths, he begins to realize that you’re different

He slowly begins to open up, but the back of his mind still wonders if you judge him like everyone else

Elliot:

Elliot was happy about you moving to town

Not overly excited, but definitely looking forward to the arrival of someone new

Someone different and exciting

Not to mention the (hopefully) delectable crops that would come with a farm

He was certainly shocked when he saw you

He was not expecting this new farmer to be so… beautiful

Unlike many of the other bachelors, he shows you his poetic personality fairly quickly

Using quotes and fancy words that fly over your head

Elliot knows the importance of first impressions

And he definitely made a good one

Harvey:

Like Sam, he was happy to hear that someone new was coming to town

A new friend AND a new patient?!

Sign him up!

Even after you introduce yourself to him he has a hard time being genuine with you, his awkward personality shining through in all of your conversations

It doesn’t help that he thinks you’re like… really pretty

Like REALLY pretty

You’re so beautiful and so gentle to him…

The moment that you left he let out the biggest breath and wiped the sweat from his forehead

He swears you’re going to be the death of him

Alex:

Alex was pretty indifferent to a new neighbor

Like, yeah it’ll be nice to have a new person around, maybe even someone closer to his age

But at the same time he would be just fine staying in his current little circle

That isn’t to say that he didn’t start getting antsy when he heard that you were in town and introducing yourself to the villagers

When you do introduce yourself he finds himself much more excited than he expected to be

“Hey, you’re the new farm girl/boy aren’t you?”

Yeah that definitely came off as chill

Yes he starts off just talking about sports and his work outs with you, but he’s really a big puppy behind his jock persona

Jess blocked a lot of things out of his mind that included your sister Rory Gilmore twisting her hair and batting her eyelashes at him while he worked behind the counter of his uncle’s restaurant as his eyes darted to the clock

The past four times he had looked you had at least twenty minutes until you were let out of school you were switching to Chilton soon and Jess was still trying to fighter out how to deal with the fact

He walked through the court his semi smile he didn’t realize he had on his face dropping when the sight of you and some guy talking to each other caused his jaw to clench

You were handing him something a folder it looked like and before Jess could intervene the guy was already walking away giving you a wave which you returned happily a little too happy for Jess’s liking

You turned around meeting eyes with Jess before you slowly jogged over to him with a bright smile on your face before you came I to contact with his chest wrapping your arms around his waist

“That guy you were talking to, who is he?” Jess questioned interrupting you before you could even begin your sentence as you furrowed your brows retrieving your head from the comfort of his soft band Tee at the hostility in his voice and you suddenly realized how stiff he was under your touch before you dropped your arms to your sides

“He’s just a new friend, whats up with you?” You questioned your head tilted as you looked up at the brunette

“Why was he talking to you?”

“He was asking for some notes he missed Jess. Why does it matter?” You took a full step back now Jess not being the only one tense as you both stood in the middle of the court yard most students already starting their ways on their destination

“He only wants to put his grubby little hands on you like the rest of the guys in this town” Jess stated in a matter of fact tone before you scoffed turning on you heels and beginning to walk away

“You know I’m right Y/n that’s why you’re so damn mad” Jess was hot on your heels to the point you couldn’t even turn around without bumping into him

“Does he even have a girlfriend?” At that you stopped in your tracks you weren’t even together so why the hell should he even care?

“Why do you care!?” You turned around sharply and if It weren’t for Jess having a decent balance you both would’ve went tumbling over You didn’t mean for it to come out so harsh but Jess was testing your patience

“Why were you so jealous when me and Shane kissed at the fair!?” He shot back at you before you could start to walk away again

“Jealous!? You don’t even exist to me!” You found yourself shouting at the brunette jabbing your a finger into his chest the townspeople sparing you both whispering glances and if he were surprised his face sure did nothing to show it

“You’re mine and you know it Y/n. If I see that punk talking to you again you won’t recognize him the next time you see him” Jess had grabbed your wrist as it thrashed against his hold not enough to hurt you but it was still firm to get his point across

“Did that make you feel better huh? Go somewhere and fuck yourself Jess.” You seethed before successfully snatching your hand away from his hold storming off

Jess decided against following you giving you a chance to clear your head before he turned on his heel walking the other way deep down you knew you both belonged to each other it was just a matter of time before you stopped denying it

based on this post i made about shane being an older sibling figure to the younger bachelors & bachelorettes. he's the disgruntled mom friend.

1. sam

Shane slumps into a chair and takes off that dreadful cap as he begins his legally designated 15 minute break at work. He knows if it weren't for the literal law that he wouldn't be given a break at all, especially with Morris stressing about customers that never show up. It's the same two or three people from town every day. Morris isn't going to get that through his thick skull, though. Shane sighs as rubs his eyes roughly with his palms, trying to fend off his exhaustion and mild hangover.

He's getting better. He hasn't cut himself off completely, but he's getting better. He can remember his nights now instead of select moments and then blurry images and distant noises. Shane sighs. He has a therapy appointment in a couple of days. He isn't enjoying therapy but it is starting to give him relief in a way he's never felt before. It's better. It's better, he reassures himself, despite the pressure in his chest yelling at him that he's a failure for not going cold turkey.

Shane slouches further down in the chair and tips his head so it rests on the back of the chair. These cushioned armchairs, as cheap and small and obnoxiously colored blue as they are, are the best things JojaMart has ever gotten. He shuts his eyes and listens to the sound of absolutely nothing in the break room. He's saved from the terrible repetitive pop music playlist on the floor. It's just him and the whirring of a nearby fan.

Until the door swings open and Sam comes barging in with a giddy smile and something in his hands. He's going to come over and try and show him isn't he?

"Shane!"

Shane groans and covers his face with his cap.

"C'mon! I gotta show you something!"

"No." Shane grumbles from under his cap. "Go away."

"Please?" Sam asks nicely, "I promise you will like it."

Shane grabs his cap and swings it down onto his lap. "What is it?"

Sam holds out a flier and beams. Shane sighs and snatches the paper and takes a look at it. It's an advertisement for a show in Zuzu City.

"Who's 'Goblin Destroyer?'" Shane asks.

"My band!" Sam says excitedly, hopping from foot to foot. "We got a gig! It's a small show but it's still in Zuzu City!"

Shane blinks and nods. "Alright, cool." He looks up at Sam, who's got the biggest hopeful puppy dog eyes he's ever seen. Sam is giving Jas a run for her money. "Uh… good job." He tries to say it and mean it. It's exactly what Sam is looking for, because Sam somehow grins even wider and giddily jumps up and down.

"You totally gotta come!"

Shane purses his lips together. Go to their concert? He can't remember the last time he'd been to a concert, especially given how tickets usually cost more money than he has. Except, Sam and his band can't be expensive. It's their first show and probably at a small concert venue or in a club in Zuzu City, which most of the time is free. He has no reason to not go other than he doesn't know if he wants (or can handle) being in a potential crowd.

But Sam is waiting patiently and quietly. This means a lot to him.

Shane sighs, "Yeah, I can go. I just need the date and time."

"Really?!" Sam nearly shouts. "And everything is on the flier, plus everybody from here who's coming will be on the bus together. Pam agreed to it," He explains.

"Ah," Shane says, reading the flier again and seeing yes, all of the information is there. "Erm, your mom going?"

"Her and Vince are going, yea," Sam sounds less excited but he's still happy. "I'm not sure Mom will like the music too much, she doesn't like it when we practice in the house, but I think my dad would like it."

"Mmm," Shane hums.

"My dad isn't going to be home until next year," Sam says, his demeanor shifting into what Shane can only describe as sullen. "It's been weird, getting ready for it even though it's a whole two seasons away."

Shane isn't sure what to say to that. He never had much of a family growing up, and what little he remembers of his father are more images than true moving memories. Flashes.

"He's been gone since Vince was a toddler," Sam says. "We had just moved to the valley when it happened." Shane knows all of this already, this isn't the first time Sam has told him about it. Sam tends to repeat it a lot.

"I mean, I'm an adult now, y'know?"

"You're an adult?" Shane teases dryly. He smirks as Sam leans over and gives him a light slap on the knee.

"I'm being serious, dude," Sam says, "I just… I'm doing great things and he's not even here. I've been told he didn't have a choice but then there's so many people whose dads are here and weren't shipped off to the war. Did he have no choice?"

"Sam there wasn't a draft, and there hopefully won't be one anytime soon. So no, your father wasn't forced," Shane states matter-of-factly. He didn't plan on continuing further, but Sam's look of defeat…

"But, by 'no choice', probably meant in looking for a job. People who aren't doing well sometimes feel like the military's all they can do and be guaranteed some benefits at the end of it. Why did y'all move to Pelican Town?" Shane asks.

"It was too expensive in Zuzu," Sam says.

"Do you know why I moved to Pelican Town? Why did I move in with my aunt?"

"Because it was too expensive in Zuzu City."

"Right, and that was just me and Jas," Shane says, "Two of us. Y'all are a family of four. I can't imagine how hard it was."

"... Yeah…" Sam murmurs.

"Look, your old man was doing what was best at the time. He's gonna be different when he comes back."

"Yeah, in his letter he said he was different. I found it in my mom's room."

"Don't go snooping in your mom's room," Shane scolds. He clears his throat to switch off the "talking to Jas aka a child" mindset. "All I'm saying is, maybe this," Shane passes back the flier. "This'll be something he can enjoy when he gets back."

"I hope so," Sam says. "I don't know what I'd do if he doesn't like it."

"He'll like it," Shane says, "And even if he doesn't, he'll still be proud. He's your dad. He'd be crazy if he wasn't proud of you."

"You think so? Sometimes I don't even know if my mom is proud of me."

"She's going to be proud of you when she sees you on that stage. I know I'd be."

"... You would?"

"Mhm."

Sam looks at the flier and his face scrunches, deep in thought. Shane checks the clock and sees he's a couple minutes past his break. He sighs and he stands up, stretching his arms up to try, popping his back. Before he can leave, Sam is wrapping his arms tightly around Shane and squeezing.

"Sam?!"

"Thank you," Sam breathes.

Shane awkwardly pats Sam's back. "Er… you're welcome?"

Sam lets go and hurries off out of the breakroom. He probably wasn't even supposed to be back here, let alone for an entire 15 minute break. Shane sighs as he drags his feet to the door.

"That was weird," He murmurs to himself. He ignores the lightness in his chest. It was weird.

As long as the kid's happy though, right?

Shane questions if it was worth it as Morris yells at him for being late coming back from his break. He sees Sam behind Morris, mopping as usual as if he hadn't gone to the breakroom and is the reason Shane is late. Shane sighs again.

He'll take the blame for it this time.

This time, he tells himself, despite it not being the first time.

It probably won't be the last.

Stardew Valley Imagine

Imagine dating Shane, and not knowing Jas very well. You try your best to bond with her, but due to her shyness and your anxiety it's slow progress. Until one day when you're playing dolls with her and you open up about the cows you and Marnie have.

It's going great, you're showing her pictures on your phone of the baby cows and Jas is smiling more than she ever has around you. She tells you she once fed a crawdad to a cow, and the cow seemed to really enjoy it. You're surprised, you thought cows wouldn't like seafood, but Jas just shrugs and asks you to not tell Marnie.

Later that week, you and Shane are planning to have a picnic on your farm with Jas, a little group bonding. You decide to surprise Jas by feeding your cows a snack of crawdads before they arrive. You figure it'll help your chances of befriending her if you show that you listen when she tells you things.

So Shane and Jas arrive right when you're finishing up in the barn, watching as your cows gobble up the very last of the mushy sea bugs. The three of you watch the cows for a moment, basking in their cuteness, before Shane asks why they're inside and not eating grass right now. You beam, turning to the duo with an eager look, proudly exclaiming how you fed them a nice big pile of crawdads as a special picnic day treat!

Jas immediately starts laughing, happy to see an adult do something so silly. Shane, however, looks a bit worried. He asks if it's safe, if the crawdads were fresh, if you'd done this before, etc. You assure him that a local farming expert told you it was a guaranteed way to get your cows to love you.

Right as he turns to you to ask who the hell you're talking about, Jas starts screaming.

You both spin around, and watch in open-mouthed horror as one of your cows writes on the ground, making the worst sound you've ever heard. Shane scoops up Jas and rushes her out of the barn, as you whip out your phone to call for help.

Much cussing and crying later, you sit on your front porch with a small audience of Shane, Jas, Marnie, Dr. Harvey, and Leah (she heard the screams) staring at you with the most distressed looks on their faces. You explain yourself the best you can while making sure no one knows Jas had done the same thing to her own cows.

Marnie gives you a harsh lecture that makes you want to crawl into the earth immediately. You try and tell her that you do care about your animals, and that you thought they'd like it! She won't hear of it, however, and as she turns to leave your farm, she asks Dr. Harvey to help her transport the sick cow to her own farm to rest up in peace.

Leah gives you an awkward wave as she heads home, and you wonder if you'll still be allowed to sit with her and Elliott at the saloon if she thinks you're a danger to animals.

Shane and Jas sit beside you on your porch, the three of you stunned silent by the events of the day. When you invite them in for tea, his acceptance gives you hope. Hope that is thrown out the window when he tugs you into the kitchen to have a word away from Jas' little ears.

But when he wraps you in a hug, gently rocking you back and forth as you start to cry, your hope returns. He shushes your apologies and gives you little forehead kisses while your breaths even out. He tells you he'd love you even if you fed your cows anchovies. He tells you that you're the best thing that ever happened to Pelican Town and that if Leah snubs you at the Saloon he'll get Emily to spill a drink on her. He tells you that Marnie loves you, and asks about you all the time, and that if she stays mad longer than a day or two he'll remind her of the time she tripped over a newborn goat by accident. He tells you that you look cute when you cry and that Jas and him will host the next picnic day.

You hide your face in his hoodie and thank him for sticking around. He scoffs, and rests his head on top of yours as he calls you an idiot for thinking he'd ever leave.

You end the day in better spirits, and as Shane carries a sleeping Jas back home that night, you resolve to send over a basket of fairy rose honey and hot pepper jam for them tomorrow.

(Needless to say you don't take farming advice from children after that lol)

My knowledge on instruments and music in general is very limited. So, expect mistakes. Still, this seems like a really fun ask (and cello is a really cool instrument), so I'd be happy to do it! I'm not sure if you meant in an orchestra as in the reader is actually in one or just an instrument from one, but the former seems more fun. Thank you for your patience in getting this done. Oh, and I don't know how much tickets cost but I'm imagining they're expensive okay? Please don't get mad at me.

Oh, and an important(ish) announcement! My @ask-sdv blog is back up and running, now with a new coat of paint (aka I updated it a bit)! You can go an check it out and send in an ask if you want (it even has a running timeline!). So far we're on day two, so not much is there yet, but it will be soon!

Bachelors:

Sam

Join his band, please. He'd love to have another musician playing. And what better musician than the person he cares about most? Listen, I'm not sure how conventional it'll be to have strings instruments in a rock band (if he's doing a rock band, anyway), but Sam wants to make it fun and experimental anyway. And I know you're in an orchestra, so that may be hard (and he understands!), but he just really wants you there. The two have jamming sessions all the time together and use what knowledge you have on the other's instruments to help yourselves improve.

Elliott

He's a big fan of the piano, being a classical-based pianist himself, so if you're playing something like violin or cello, he'd love to do a duet with you. I imagine on the nights when you're sick he likes to play a bit of piano to help you sleep, so he'd really appreciate if you'd do the same for him. Like Sam, he helps you practice. Pays a high fee to get the best seats when you play. Man is in crippling debt (probably still paying off his shack), but will put that all aside to see you shine. Not the best investment, but... Eh... It's worth it to him.

Sebastian

Also a piano player (well, keyboard). He's a little bit shy about his skills, so he's not as keen to play duets with you. But he'd love to listen to you do a solo! He's got an ear for mistakes and how to fix them, so he makes a great tutor. And he'll do it for free, too! Or maybe a plate of sashimi. But that's close enough.

He usually can't afford to get tickets for your show, and all the people make him really nervous - he's not very confident he'd look 'appropriate' there - but when he can and he'd feeling up to it he will try to go! He really does want to support you; he just needs some extra help anxiety-wise.

Harvey

Adores listening to you play. He's quite the jazz guy, so if you're into playing that stuff he'd just fall in love (if he hasn't already). I like to think he comes from a rich family, though they don't really associate anymore, so he's had the chance to learn an instrument or two in his time - though I think he'd go for saxophone or French horn. So, he remembers a few bits and pieces to help you out with if you need it. But honestly, he just prefers to listen, mistakes and all.

Like I said, he's not really associated with his family anymore, and he's living in a small town in the middle of nowhere, so money is very tight. He can't really afford to go to your shows, so sorry about that. But his dream is to meet you backstage after you finish and give you the biggest gift of support he can. He gets so flustered seeing you all dressed up for your shows like that and can't help but take as many photos as possible.

Shane

Doesn't know anything about music, to be honest. He's a punk or alternative rock guy with a bit of an interest in metal, so if you're a classical musician it's going to be quite the change for him. But don't worry, he's still willing to sit down and listen! He can't provide much help but will show you CDs/tapes he's found in your genre. If you like his taste in music, however, oh boy; he's so happy. Again, not sure how strings instruments fit into death metal, but we'll make do. And who knows, maybe it's very common (though I doubt it).

Like Sebastian, he's not really looking forward to going to your shows due to his anxiety. Yeah, he's getting help for it and may be medicated, but that doesn't mean it's an instant fix! Situations like these where he feels out of place or unworthy can really trigger his self-doubt, so it's harder to go. But he has been able to save up for those really expensive shows Jas wanted, so he's doing better than Seb money-wise.

Alex

This man listens to The Beach Boys, '60s/'70s hits, and SWING BABY! Listen, this man is living in the past, okay? Metal is the biggest shock to him. It's the equivalent to showing a Victorian child TikTok to him. Please be patient. Anyways, if you're willing to play that sort of stuff he loves it! Well, he loves strings instruments in general but still! He loves it.

As for seeing your shows, he hasn't got the money for it, and Yoba knows he isn't asking his granny or grandpa for some. You'd honestly have to just pay for him, which would make him feel really guilty (he'd make up for it, though). He's also a little nervous in a suit; I headcanon that a lot or at least some of his confidence is a cover-up. But that all goes away when he sees you up there.

Bachelorettes:

Penny

She enjoys listening to you play a lot. I think she'd like classical songs, 10 Hour Deep Sleep Rain Noise for Deep Sleeping videos, and Fernando by ABBA (plus the songs I have for her in my other post). As a child I imagine she'd wanted to learn viola, so meeting someone who plays that very instrument or at least something in the same family of it will make her heart soar. She loves just closing her eyes and listening to you play.

As for her shows, she could never get in on her own. Girlie is living in a trailer, and she doesn't even have a car to get herself there. You need to pay for her, end of story. And despite it happening all the time, she will still feel guilty about it. It's just how it goes with her. So, do not - I repeat, do not - make her feel even worse about it. She will cry (maybe, alone).

Leah

Artist x Artist of Different Medium? Let's go! I just love Leah so much and she's such a perfect partner you don't even understand. She'd be so supportive of you in your musical endeavors; always giving you encouragement and even doing a little bit of research so she can better provide constructive feedback! She also may or may not have designed a few album covers for your own music (if you make it).

Once her art business gets up and going, she finally has the money to buy tickets to the show (that is provided they don't sell out). She probably went to Haley and Emily for help in picking out the best dress for her to wear, and the two teased her over being so in love.

Abigail

Musician x Musician? Yes please! She's currently working her way through mastering two instruments, so she'd be happy to help you out with yours. She plays her flute while you play your strings instrument in a wonderful duet that has the whole town captivated. You two make your own songs together and maybe even have a little 'band' on the side of Sam's!

Abigail has some money on the side for her shows, but in general she might have to ask for some money from her parents. Despite them being pretty strict about what her interests are, they do give her the money because they trust her and you. Abigail doesn't really have the best dress to wear, so she rocks the place by stealing borrowing her father's old suit.

Maru

Maru likes pretty much any music, but if you want to know the specifics check out my post I made for it in the General Headcanons post (link in my pinned post). Anyway, she loves what you do. Maru's definitely recorded you playing to a tape that she's looped to play when she's working. Demetrius is getting a bit sick of it, but Robin finds it cute.

I feel like Maru doesn't get paid much for her work as a nurse at the clinic. It's not that Harvey doesn't want to, it's just he's barely keeping the business afloat and he literally can't pay Maru any more without crashing the clinic as a whole. Maru understands this, and so does her family, so it's no biggie having to ask for a little cash just this one time. They happily pay, and Maru gets to go to your orchestra while donning an absolutely amazing outfit curated by Emily.

Emily

Speaking of Emily, she's quite the fan. She prefers upbeat tunes she can dance to, but if you're more of a mellow or sad type she'll still listen. I feel like Emily would really like to come up with unique dances for each of your songs - dances that rarely fit the theme. But in her words, "it's about how the song makes you feel, not how it's supposed to look."

Emily and Haley are having the easiest time getting to see one of your shows. Their parents are rich, rich enough to go and get milk on a holiday, so it's no problem for them to leave some extra money for their daughters. Emily spends a lot of money and effort making the perfect dress for the night, and you can easily spot her from the crowd due to all the fancy colours and frills.

Haley

Haley isn't the biggest fan of any music that isn't pop, so she's not as excited to hear you play. But don't be fooled; because it's you she's listening to, she'll sit there and hear it through. She doesn't hate it by any means, it just doesn't really grab her attention. But she would love it if you were to do a cover of one of her favourite songs. Now that is something she could listen to for hours.

As for going to one of your shows, Haley's all down for it. As I said, money's no issue. She takes you, Emily, and herself on a shopping trip in Zuzu City to get the one and only best dress for the occasion, no matter the cost. She'll have the room for it too after she cleans out her wardrobe. At the show, she's kind of bored, but passionate enough about you to loudly shush anyone talking.

his depression manifests as a lack of regard for himself, so while he drinks as a (very bad) coping mechanism it’s alcohol abuse and not an alcohol dependence. (nothing wrong with struggling with addiction, this is just how i read him)

look at him. he has anxiety. that manifests as a hyperawareness of appearance and a borderline obsession with being clean. are his clothes incredibly worn and ragged and stained? yes. is he smelly? absolutely not. incredibly self aware and obsessive with hygiene. it makes him anxious if he’s not because he feels like he’s drawing more attention to himself and he wants to be left alone

his depression is kind of like… a low functioning presentation (if that makes sense?) instead of overcompensating he tends to under compensate; he can’t find a reason to do anything other than the bare minimum and stick to his routine. it’s easier to not put in the effort to do well. you’ll feel like shit if you try and don’t succeed, but if you don’t try and don’t succeed/do the bare minimum you know what to expect and it’s easier to prepare for it.

(by contrast, june overcompensates. do all that you can to keep up the appearance of a competent, well adjusted individual because you’re so afraid of failing and that once you show your weaknesses/you fail you’ll be discarded immediately because you’re “broken” they have intense anxiety and try not to get close on a deeper level, everything is superficial. has to be liked by everyone and feel dependable. please send them to therapy)

shane does care what people think but can’t trust anyone enough to get close to because he’s scared of being hurt

in a lighter note, i think that once he opens up, he’s confused by kindness/affection. you want to hang out with him? him?? have you lost your mind??? but once he gets used to it he’s super affectionate and can be a bit clingy, because it’s new and exciting and it’s such a weird but nice feeling

he’s shown in canon (note the height difference between him and the other bachelor’s sprites during the flower dance) to be shorter than the other bachelors, but i think he’s 5’6”. i just know it in my bones

another thing i know in my bones is: he’s chubby, he’s got a tummy but he’s really strong too. idk if any of y’all worked on farms/grew up in a small community that has a lot of farmers/agricultural ties but you cannot tell me he’s got noodle arms. have you ever had to haul a hay bale? i haven’t but i can tell you they’re fucking heavy. shane chops wood and hauls feed bags and hay bales so while he’s chubby he’s also strong

his ideal future like to run a chicken sanctuary. i think he’d like it he’s a little weirdo like that

also he’s not… vegetarian, but eating meat is a bit weird for him. on one hand, in a small community like pelican town you know any animal used for food is given a lot of care and you know they’re treated well (i can verify this as someone who grew up in a small agricultural town; my dad used to keep animals for slaughter as a kid and i have friends who do as well and they treat their animals SUPER well, you can verify exactly how they’re treated and their quality of life) but it still makes him kinda sad. he’ll eat it, yeah, but he tries to avoid it to the best of his ability; especially with chicken. it makes him sad to think about eating a feathery friend

when shane is in a better headspace, he just avoids all alcohol. he worries a lot about getting “bad” again and avoids any and all triggers. can he drink without abusing it? yes, but it’s incredibly difficult. it just makes him anxious and the thought of relapse is terrifying

he relapses a handful times because as someone who’s been in recovery (ED recovery, but it’s a similar struggling with urges + intrusive thoughts and etc.) it is hard and never fucking linear. you have dips and jumps and plummeting lows and etc so it’s easy to get back into bad habits, especially when it’s what you know and are used to

when he does relapse it’s incredibly fucking easy for him to because his tolerance is abysmally small. just a few beers gets him plastered

he loves shitty and bad jokes. they’re funny and kinda dad jokes. ones that make you groan and you’ll never admit that secretly they make you happy because they’re so bad they’re good

What would Stardew Valley look like some time in the future?

These are just my headcanons, but i love all the NPC's of Stardew so much i wanna write em some endings. (Feel free to expand on any of my ideas or add your own, I want to see some more of your own)

The farmer became so rich that they retired, and invested all their money into the town, fixing up the streets and funding events, but yet, no matter what they do, it doesn’t attract that many people. Tourists still show up, but just as many as before the farmer arrived. No one can explain it, it was as

Hayley got into a course in photography and left for 2 years to complete her degree. However, upon finishing it, she decided that the best place for her was back in Stardew Valley, and moved back in to her old room, which Emily had converted into her personal sewing place. There were several arguments over that particular situation. It took many years and a lot of financial support from Emily – who was still working at the saloon – but she finally became a professional freelance photographer, mostly documenting the strange and wonderful world around Stardew Valley.

George and Evelyn eventually passed on, and the whole town came out for their funerals, even Sebastian drove all the way from Zuzu city to be there. Lewis put together a wonderful speech about them, as they had all lived in the community together their entire lives. Marnie was sobbing in the aisles, and had to be quietly escorted out by Shane and Jas. Alex inherited their house, but it didn’t feel right without his loving grandparents, so he mostly left it the way it was and stayed with Hayley most of the time. With plenty of spare time on his hands and nothing much in the way of financial burden, he began working on a plan with Penny, Robin and the Farmer.

With the Farmer supplying the money (they’re essentially a billionaire at this point), Robin built a small schoolhouse up near the community centre and playground. Penny and Alex began teaching there, with Penny taking English and Mathematics, while Alex gave them all the most intense P.E lessons ever conceived. One day, they rocked up to class to see that he had converted their room into an insane obstacle course, which they spent the day racing through over and over again. Sometimes, they would take a field trip to Darius’s lab, and he would show them whatever experiment he was working on. He once got into a shouting match with one of the children over whether a tomato was a fruit, but the situation was quickly de-escalated before Darius could through said experiment all over the poor child.

Alex never achieved his dreams of Gridball glory, but he found happiness. Also, he finally worked up the courage to move back into his grandparent’s house. It was sad to have to clean it out, but Hayley was very supportive, and they turned it into the house they always wanted. In time, the empty rooms were filled with the sound of children's laughter and screams of excitement. It was never perfect, and there was enough chaos to make their lives interesting, but it was their chaos and they were perfectly okay with that.

I am definitely gonna write more of these because I love these characters so much and I want to give them all excellent endings

Stardew Valley Headcanon: Shane and Emily at the flower dance

so obviously Shane wasn’t planning on actually dancing with anyone, he’s only in the right outfit in the first place because Jas is wearing one of the dresses and Vincent didn’t wanna match with her so he dusted his off to make her happy

and of course Jas’s mini flower dress was made by Emily. Marnie had Emily make it as a gift for the first birthday she spent in Pelican town, hopefully to get her excited about her new home and it’s fun traditions

Now Emily loves the aesthetics of the dance, but didn’t ever really participate herself, and until this year, nobody was expecting her to

Before Leah and Elliott came to town, the participants were both younger on average and living under the roof of one of the older people in town.

Except Harvey of course, but he volunteered mostly so that the numbers would be even

But Leah an Elliott were absolutely the kind of people to participate in this kind of thing, and with them AND Harvey involved, she couldn’t exactly hide from it as well.

Now Shane had moved back only recently, but he (much to his dismay) knew the dance all too well. You spend enough time in a place (albeit on and off) you just, don’t forget certain things

So Emily came up to him, and laid out her situation:

“Hey, I think we should be flower dance partner. Not romantically, obviously, but symbiotically”

“I am expected to dance this year, for sure. You… might be? I’m not yet sure whether the town considers you one of the Dads or one of the Bachelors, but Marnie? Marnie is definitely expecting you to dance. Dancing with me gets Marnie off your back”

Shane, ever the self loathing cynic, replies “What’s in it for you?”

“Well, see I have a girlfriend. Her name is Sandy and we send each other long handwritten letters and pressed flowers in the mail. I am in love with her. But I’m not exactly ready for everyone in town to know this. And I’m being expected to dance.”

“There are only two single men in town even remotely close to qualifying to participate: You and Clint. And Clint is lovely as a friend, but I am pretty intuitive. I know he has a crush on me. I know if I say yes to his flower dance invitation, he will see it a romantic, which is a problem because, you know, girlfriend”

Shane of course still doesn’t really want to dance. But it would get Marnie off his back, Jas would be absolutely giddy about seeing him dance, and Emily is one of the people in this town he can stand.

“Okay fine, I’ll do it.” he says and Emily is delighted. “But if Clint so much as even talks to me tonight I drink for free tomorrow.”

Meanwhile, Sam and Penny are trying to teach Jas and Vincent the Dance. Jas is getting it, but Vincent just isn’t. Shane comes over to stand next to Penny to watch Jas and Vincent dance while Sam is over Vincent’s shoulder, trying to tell him how to move his feet.

“Hey blondie, what the fu- rick does “Move your feet more like a junimo even mean?” Shane asks “You know, just like.” and Sam does it. “I mean I guess, but then just show him that instead of given him nonsense verbal directions.”

“Dude, Vincent can’t dance. Nobody can teach him.”

So they Bet on it. If Shane can teach Vincent the Dance, Sam will give him one of his off days (not trade, give) and if he can’t he has to give Sam one of his.

Sam goes to talk to Seb and Abby, and Emily joins Penny in spectating the dance lessons. It’s actually surprisingly effective. Penny is always very surprised every time she’s reminded of how naturally good Shane is at teaching.

Soon enough, Vincent knows the dance well enough to warrant a victory. “That’s be one Summer 4th please.”

Anyway, the dance is beginning now, so everyone to their places.

It goes exactly as it does.

Clint is of course very jealous, and tries to do that whole “congratulations on winning her”thing, and obviously Shane is having none of it, cussing him out for both treating Emily like a trophy and for thinking he could talk to him

So he didn’t intend on dancing but he’s walking away with a free night of drinks, Jas’s birthday off, and maybe an almost friend, which he supposed isn’t horrible and probably worth the dumb little dance

Pelican town, I recall moving there so fondly. It was a quaint village adorned with a saloon, a museum, and caving if you're the adventurous sort. Warm memories of catching various fish, and planting delightful seeds for my stunning array of crops. echoed throughout my mind as I went about my daily routine- watering my plants, going to the caves and mine for expensive ores, then carrying myself to the stardrop saloon to unwind with the help of some bitter alcohol. Then lastly take a stroll home and drop off what I got from the mines for my daily paycheck. I glanced at something noticeably sticking out of my mailbox; a pale white envelope decorated with a crimson wax stamp. I removed the delicate paper and held it gently between my fingers, small beams of moonlight illuminated the writing before me.

To the love of my life

I want you to know that, even though you don't realize it. You're the only thing that keeps me going, the only reason I bother getting out of bed anymore is just so I can get a glimpse of your beauty; your eyes remind me of stars that reflect your nature, you still glow in the darkest of nights. It is unfathomable how nobody else noticed your true beauty, and yet it overjoys me to see it.

Your cheeks flushed a pretty pink, and you carefully folded the paper in your hand. Before walking into your abode and carefully placing it in a drawer as your mind raced with who it could be. You tossed and turned that night, barely being able to close your eyes, most of your life has been void of any romance, and now you're the reason, somebody is happy. It was just…too good to be true, maybe it was a prank? Or a wrong address? Finally, it was time to go about your daily ritual again, maybe it would help take your mind off things.

You grabbed your watering can, gently raining the soil of the plants with the water it so desperately craved. Then you went to the caves with your sturdy sword, getting attacked by slimes wasn't the best thing you could've had in mind, but hey! at least you got a few diamonds and a good amount of other loot. Then you took off to the saloon drowsiness consuming you and had a delightful conversation with Shane and Gus over some beers riddled with drunken laughter. Then Shane showed you his favorite arcade game, your face hot with rage as he laughed at how bad you were at Journey Of The Prairie King. It was your favorite part of the day even if Shane made fun of you for your lack of arcade skills. Finally, it was time to return home, and yet again to your surprise, you found a note in your mailbox. You eagerly read the following with some small beads of sweat rolling down your face.

To my beloved Y/N

I saw you kept my letter, it brings me euphoria to see my love be so flustered at my efforts. Maybe I shouldn't be telling you this but, the best part of my day for the past months is hiding in the bushes and trees following you as you do your favorite activities. It's so adorable to see your proud smile as you harvest your favorite fruit, or the excitement etched on your face when you go to the caves, ready to face off monsters. But I should say, I ask you to stop drinking so late at night. I can tell how drunk you are by your staggering walk, sweetheart, what if the wrong person saw you!? It would be bad news for sure, not that I would let anything bad happen but Y/N you have to look out for yourself more.

Your face paled as your eyes widened. They've been stalking you the entire time? You hastily scanned over your surroundings in an attempt to find your admirer, but alas you saw nobody in the suffocating darkness. You booked it inside and locked doors and windows, double-checking every nook and cranny just in case they were hiding. Yet you found nothing, you did some breathing exercises as you nestled yourself in the corner of the living room armed with a slingshot at the nearest window, yet again nobody came.

You calmed down and decided it would be best not to go out tomorrow, and stay inside armed and protected. However you couldn't sleep due to the paranoia eating away at you, days ran past as you occasionally glanced out the window. You still didn't see anything.

Maybe they gave up or got the message you didn't like what they did? Finally, you gathered the courage to go outside in the daytime, of course still armed.

In the mailbox, there was a dreadful piece of paper waiting for you. As you cautiously walked towards it you felt your knees grow weak. Finally, your trembling hands picked up the letter

Why must you hide from me? I thought you liked what I said, did I not love you enough? Did you think I was Shane? My intentions weren't to scare you but rather to have a moment of honesty. Maybe I shouldn't have been too quick, but I just can't help myself, I grow impatient by the day. I have to have you to myself, I can't bear the thought of you being scared or in danger by somebody else. I ask you to forgive me for this

With utmost apologies it's come to this, your secret admirer

Shivers ran down your spine, your trembling grew to your whole body; and a scream bubbled in your throat.

A callous hand covered your mouth before anybody could've heard you. Then the person pushed you to the ground, straddling you and flipping your body so you could finally see who's been stalking you. It was a tall pale man wearing a black hoodie and long raven black hair covering half of his face to match, he took out some dark grey duct tape with his free hand and bit a piece off. Pressing it firmly against your lips even though you sent him a pleading look. His tense form finally slacked a bit and his voice came out thick and raspy.

"I'm sorry it had to come to this Y/N but you left me no other choice, you didn't give me a chance, you never called out to see who I was. You just hid from my love, and it was agonizing having to wait for you." He glared at you like he was deeply hurt. "I'm sorry, I truly am but what I'm about to do is necessary." He lifted your body and slung it over his shoulder before walking deep into the woods surrounding your house, he stepped into an abandoned cabin, which you recognized as what must be your grandpa's cabin, you glanced around seeing dust and some cobwebs were still evident

"I wish I could have introduced myself earlier, I'm Sebastian, and we'll be staying here for a while. It won't be long before they notice you're missing and not sick in bed, it won't be long but at least until I find a bus into the big city, I already got an apartment and everything!"

He smiled sickly and sighed and that's the last you saw before fainting from adrenaline Sebastian standing over you worried.

If you don't mind me making another long post, I'll talk about the current view I had for a part 2 and the what I thought of the characters first thought of the twins. Feel free to correct anything I miss interpretate, we currently don't have too much about the town's folks individual options on the twins and their Pokémon.

I sorted the town's folks into categories based on their opinion on Pokémon instead of the twins themselves but quite a few probably would be cut from the actual chapter unless I made a part 3

Likes Pokémon:

Jas, Vincent, Evelyn, George, Wizard

(George likes Pokémon but doesn't appear to, kinda like the dog owner who insults their dog but still gives it a treat. He might like their Pokémon but he doesn't like the twins because he doesn't want them to mess up the train station.)

Lukewarm about Pokémon:

Alex, Elliott, Harvey, Emily, Leah, Maru, Penny, Caroline, Clint, Gil, Gunther, Linus, Marlon, Marnie, Robin, Willy

(Alex, Elliott, Emily, Maru and Penny are all scared of Pokémon but think they're interest/cool but will observe from a safe distance. Penny is the most scared but also most intrigued)

(Harvey, Leah, Caroline, Linus, Marnie and Willy are scared of Pokémon but have more a neutral option of them and see they more like unprodicatable animals. Harvey favours Klinklang since its the least dangerous looking (and I like to think the Klink line is associated with anything with mechanics like the air force). Linus has mixed feelings about Garbodor, he feels a kinship since they're outcast but has a dislike since she might steal his dinner.)

(Clint, Gil, Gunther, Marlon and Robin are scared of Pokémon but aware that they can be tamed and are often used in their jobs outside of Stardew. Clint would like Boldore. Robin would like Gurdurr. Gunther is aware of fossil Pokémon.)

Plain fear of Pokémon:

Sam, Sebastian, Abigail, Hailey, Gus, Jodi, Lewis

(Sam, Sebastian and Lewis try not to show their fear but would run away if a Pokémon got too close.)

Hostility towards Pokémon:

Shane, Demetrius, Kent, Pam, Pierre

(All hostility mainly stems from parental overprotectiveness but witha small. Since Pam was the original bus driver, she possibly had seen some Pokémon battles outside of Stardew and seen how strong they could get. Kent is probably the only one to never fully like Pokémon.)

HI! Doctorsparkle here! Takadanobaba showed me your ask and well ... he is letting me take the stage on this main replay! I got to say tho Kraken! You are on the right tracks! I have to say you are amazing for paying attention to so many details and nuggets we have placed throughout various posts!

Your fanfic based on the mod is amazing as well and we are glad for all the ideas you have thrown at us. It really helps us when we are stumped.

Few things about some characters.

George - George’s relationship with Submas Twins is - Tolerating their presence.

Ingo and Emmet have a good relation with their wife, Evelyn, and they know that Evelyn adores Pokémon. (He knew she had one, as did he... when they where in their younger years before Stardew got rid of them. Evelyn had a Bellosom. While George problem had a a Crab-Related Pokemon. Like Krabby or Dwebble, really family Pokémon. They weren't trainers, just average folk.)

And since they have a good relation with the wife, well, you know the saying, happy wife. Happy life. As for his views on the train station.. he really doesn’t care… simply due to his age, him being wheelchair bound... and there has been dialogue related to him how he isn’t religious but since he is up there in age he preys to Yoba. (To which I can relate to, George and Evelyn as characters based on my own personal experiences with older family members.)

So really he doesn’t like the twins but as long as his wife is happy and the Pokémon are nice. He doesn’t care what they do… He's probably glad to have some form of company.

Harvey - Harvey is most definitely going to like Klinklang, however, he still views it as dangerous. Every Pokémon the Submas twins has is dangerous in their own way…. For Klinklang tho… well... giant spinning gears. And moving parts. If anyone who has worked with heavy equipment or machinery. Gears and sharp can be dangerous. Get your clothing stuck in there and well— RIP your arm or leg. Or your favorite outfit. He will still be wary and cautious about all moving parts on a Pokémon. Organic or Mechanical. Hence why he harps on the twins about their health more than anything. It's a hate-love relationship. Think of a nagging parent. He doesn’t outright dislike Pokémon but he just can’t turn off his doctor brain. Ya know?

Views on Job Related Pokemon

(Robin, Clint, etc) - LOVE THIS TO BITS! However, do keep in mind that Stardew Valley is isolated… it is a separate region. So, unless you're someone like Pam who travel across Stardew Valley. You're not going to see a Pokemon. Or a Pokemon Battle. I bet you no one even knows what a Pokemon Battle is.

I think they would learn about how Pokemon can help them with their own professions through casual talks with the Submas Twins when they have to say ask Robin for a commission or head down to Clint's to get some metal work done. The knowledge of Pokémon is lacking…. Which feeds into the fear and stigmatization of them. Knowledge is power. The government will most likely be censoring Pokémon related media... except for a few things that fall through the cracks like fashion magazines.

Which we’ll segway into… Hailey and Emily - They will most definitely fear Pokémon, however, we have some plans for the two with Elesa! They will know a little bit about Pokémon but only through fashion magazines. So think cute Pokémon like Happiny or Pachirisu. Anything bigger then a cat… forget it. They will be terrified of all of Submas Pokémon but over time it’ll dull down… they’ll still be jumpy but its not an outright dislike. Just... they prefer to see them from afar or in fashionable clothing in a book or magazine.

Gus - Definitely a fear of Pokemon... however! There are some exceptions. Joltik. And Garbador. Joltik I won’t go into details just yet, but one shows up in an event where Gus is. Garbador tho, think of Linus. Gus will most likely think of Garbador like Linus… so he isn’t scared of them. Plus. They keep the trash clean… so no raccoons or rats near the establishment. Lol. He'd be happy that no food/trash would go to waste and they make less of a mess than the other scavengers, so it's better to have it go to them.

Demetrius - Now he is a complicated one. I would say yes to hating Pokémon HOWEVER, there is definitely some character growth and development with him simply due to how Maru interacts with Pokémon and how much Stardew Valley is changing.

There is dialogue about Demetrius saying it's better that Stardew Valley- or this case the Ferngill Republic- is isolated. He could hate the Pokémon and dislike the twins at first because they are breaking the norm.

Maru, on the other hand, is absolutely fascinated about the changes. Scared and wary, but in awe of the Pokémon. The scientist in her is wanting to challenge the norm, while Demetrius is conservative and stuck in his ways… we’re also not a 100% concrete on this concept yet due to needing to double check dialogue and how his personality is in game but for Demetrius definitely a character development kinda guy.

As for how Stardew Valley relates globally with the Pokémon world stuff, I have been going off of the Setting article on this Wiki here

It shows a very pixel crude map of Ferngill Republic and Gotoro Empire. They are both continents or in this case regions.

You can’t drive to Ferngill Republic through Unova or any other Pokémon region. Only way to get there is by flight and then travel by bus. However when the train-station is up and running there will be Surfliner Routes, theoretical underwater train lines, or a giant bridge.

In Black and White and Black and White 2 there are the Wifi-Lines. I believe these to be international lines that connect to other regions. So, say for example, a train from Kalos deciding to go to Unova via this Wifi-Line or the Cyan Line. etc. etc. since Stardew Valley and Ferngill Republic has been isolated, banned on Pokémon etc. Passenger lines cannot travel on these train lines… also with the state of the station in Stardew, it probably isn't the best either.

The Ferngill Republic, however, conducts Agricultural and Economic trade with the other regions. Tomatos, meat, etc. due to possibly how taboo it is in some regions to kill and to eat Pokémon. Even though Magikarp and Slowpoke Tails might be a delicacy... the culture surrounding Pokémon as being our friends, family, partners in life... well you wouldn't want to murder Mr. Mittens now would you. That wouldn't sit right with some people.

So with the train station being rebuilt, expect a lot more economical benefits etc. and trade.

Hope this least clears up some things but also.. I just info-dumped like Ingo LOLOL. Aaaaaah…. Theres definitely a lot more I can write. Guess you can say… i’m like Lore Keeper Dani from Criticalrole. Anyway! Hope you enjoy this long reply to chew on!
