One of the nicest things about being an adult is surely waking up hungry in the middle of the night and being able to make yourself a grilled cheese sandwich and not having to answer to anyone about it.
#reasons to smile#I got this little sandwich press for $3 at the beginning of the summer#to use wherever I ended up staying since I lost my home#it's faster than using a frying pan#and the cheese bubbles out and gives the sandwich a lacy crispy cheesy edge

The feeling of writing with a newly sharpened pencil.
The feeling of the wrm sun in your face.
The feeling of exploring in the woods.
The feeling of talking to your friends early in the morning.
When you wake up at 3 am fully refreshed and have time to yourself.
When you're home alone.
When you drift off to sleep and you know that's what you're doing.
Petting a soft dog when you're out running errands.
The sting of a fresh cut on your body.
The slight pain in your legs and ankles after walking for too long.
Cool water after walking outside.
Going to the pool.
Getting an A on an essay.
Getting an A in math/something you struggle with.
Crying because you're laughing so hard.
Being in pain because you're breathless from laughter.
Your stomach dropping before the roller coaster drops.
Doing your makeup and not caring who judges you.
Screaming at the sky.
Dancing in the rain to the point you're shivering and soaking head to toe.
Getting fancy and just going for a walk.

Went to a gig tonight and ran into so many old friends I hadn’t seen in ages and it was really lovely talking to them and catching up. I genuinely got more hugs tonight than I’ve had in the rest of the year so far combined! And then I got to pet not one, but two, dogs on the way home! 😊

Hey, can someone comment some reasons to like being alive, even if they're just small? I've had so much loss and disappointment and even outright betrayal in the past year and a bit, and I'm just so sad and tired.. Choose joy.
This is the hardest shit you will ever be asked to do in your entire life, but I wish that I would have had someone tell me this sooner and I’ll be damned if another person has to go through the hell I did. So, choose joy. It is so hard, because your head will be spinning and your heart will be pounding and all your anxious thoughts will be saying that if you don’t over analyze the scenarios in the head then the world will fall apart. But it won’t, I promise.
Choose joy.
You might be in the middle of the darkest night you’ve ever felt, a night so dark you’ve stopped thinking of it as night and now simply exist within it. I’ve been there. I see you. I understand that me saying choose joy seems like a petty little platitude that can’t hold a candle to all of the chaos you’re drowning in. But please, I beg of you. Choose joy. Find that one stupid little thing that is good. It can be anything. The fact that your toothbrush is your favorite color. The fact that your sweatshirt feels good against your skin. Anything. But if you look, if you choose, I promise it will be there. I didn’t believe this was true either. But then I tried it and it worked. It’s been working for almost a month now. Things got better. I chose joy. And you can too.

My favorite parts of people:
Passion. Passion passion passion. My favorite word.
When someone finishes a performance they’ve worked so hard on and they’re breathing hard- that’s passion and it’s beautiful.
When someone is so excited they do know how to react so their hands do the shakey-shake.
When someone gets good news and they throw themselves at you and you both hug and there’s no better feeling because it’s just you two in that moment and for that bit of time you’re the only thing that matters.
When someone is telling you about something they love and they keep going on and on and even though you can’t understand them their eyes sparkle.
This is why I fall in love with you.
When someone’s words carry the weight of all their emotions and you can cling to their writing like the smell your father’s shirt.
When you’re dancing together and they let loose- it doesn’t matter if anyone’s watching because everyone’s feeling.
When you feel in the form of colors and sounds and instruments and music and things just resonate with you like your whole body is a tuning fork that feels the world.
This is why I love the world.
When you haven’t seen someone in years and you run at each other and embrace in each other’s arms and the seconds and hours and months just melt away as you embrace the true now
When someone’s hugging you so, so close and you can smell them and feel them and hold them and their hair is just so soft
When someone invites you to go stargaze or cloudgaze so you both shrug of your duties and embrace the carefree wonder of it all
When you two are on a park bench gazing at a lake and you rest your heads on each other’s shoulders and just take in the view
When you’re by yourself in a courtyard but there’s so many people around you talking, laughing, having fun, reading, doing homework, typing, and you’re just in the middle of it all and you can take it all in and there’s fall air and birds chirping and ivy and trees with so many pretty colors and everyone is just so gorgeous and you can see the beauty in everyone and you can’t scream so you shake and your mind whorls and you can’t bottle it all up so you write about it as though you’re the author of the poetry that is everyone’s lives. Everyone is so, so, so beautiful.
This is why I love people.

I have several Asks waiting for answers (thank you to all who sent them! 🥰) but am leaving shortly for a pre-Thanksgiving turkey dinner at a good friend’s place, as we just recently reconnected. She knows my situation and wanted to be sure I was included in something warm and wonderful and filled with the traditional trimmings of Thanksgiving. I know that I am very blessed!
I hope to get to the Asks afterwards--unless the turkey makes me settle in for a long nap.
