I hate that I'm considered "high functioning". I barely qualify for any "level" of disability in my country and I will never get a disability income. Yes. I'm able to go to work. But I will not be able to hold it for more than a few months before getting burned out and having daily meltdowns. No, having 10 minutes extra work break won't help me. Neither will wearing headphones or carrying fidgets. I'm literally not able to work 40h a week without severe negative consequences... How do i fucking exist in this society!

Meltdowns and Shutdowns tend to happen as a response to extreme distress. And each autistic may experience these differently.
When you've hit that point of no return where your fight, flight, or freeze responses start to kick in, this is usually when meltdowns or shutdowns occur.
They are both uncontrollable, they're a reaction, a way our mind is trying to cope. If possible, it's best to ask the autistic person what their preferences are for help.
Meltdowns tend to be a more external reaction. This one is often confused with tantrums, but are not tantrums. A person may yell, scream, hurt themselves or others (unintentionally), stim, eloping, throwing or breaking things, etc..
Shutdowns tend to be a more internal reaction. One may look more withdrawn or "not with it". A person may not be able to move, become unresponsive, feel stuck or frozen or heavy, stare or unable to make eye contact, thoughts may be difficult to form if at all, etc..
Both may involve crying or shaking, inability to speak or form words, be unresponsive, may want to be left alone.
You may experience either or, depending on the situation. Or as some autistics get older, they tend to experience shutdowns more often than meltdowns.

just see something say that " most autism meltdowns not able notice " and that can learn " control " or " keep to self " … how do people come up with these things ?
sorry but when gwydion meltdown is not at all question , not at all something that will just not realise , and definitely not at all something can just " control " . there is scream and bang and cry , there is loss words , loss focus , any rational thought like " scream loud will hurt so need stop get louder " .
yes on good days can take steps try prevent , but even on those days nothing can stop once start happen … just need let brain ride wave . is brain that fully overwhelm and can not handle anymore . nothing about control discipline any anything .

I don't think anyone talks about ADHD meltdowns enough.
I get them 9/10 times when I try to do homework.
It's not just crying because I do that every time I get frustrated with work and that's quite often.
It's not just accepting defeat and being angry with yourself because I do that a lot too.
It's breaking down sobbing, bending over and hugging yourself as snapping at anybody who tries to get you to continue working.
It's repeating I can't I can't over and over and feeling so ashamed whilst you're doing it.
It's feeling so angry with yourself because you know you can do the work you just can't do it like this and you're taking out your anger on other people.
It's other people trying to be helpful by saying that you can do it and there isn't much left so we have to crack on but that only makes you more frustrated.
Because they don't understand.
You want to.
But you just can't.
