Meltdowns and Shutdowns tend to happen as a response to extreme distress. And each autistic may experience these differently.
When you've hit that point of no return where your fight, flight, or freeze responses start to kick in, this is usually when meltdowns or shutdowns occur.
They are both uncontrollable, they're a reaction, a way our mind is trying to cope. If possible, it's best to ask the autistic person what their preferences are for help.
Meltdowns tend to be a more external reaction. This one is often confused with tantrums, but are not tantrums. A person may yell, scream, hurt themselves or others (unintentionally), stim, eloping, throwing or breaking things, etc..
Shutdowns tend to be a more internal reaction. One may look more withdrawn or "not with it". A person may not be able to move, become unresponsive, feel stuck or frozen or heavy, stare or unable to make eye contact, thoughts may be difficult to form if at all, etc..
Both may involve crying or shaking, inability to speak or form words, be unresponsive, may want to be left alone.
You may experience either or, depending on the situation. Or as some autistics get older, they tend to experience shutdowns more often than meltdowns.

Bandai Adds Hidden Tamagotchi Uni Power Off Button
Tumblr media
We’ve you been asking, and Bandai has been listening. In a recent software update, Bandai has quietly added a power off button on the Tamagotchi Uni, after hearing the outcry for there no being one upon the initial release. How do you access it? You need to reset the device by pressing the reset button on the back of the Tamagotchi Uni, and then hold down “A” + “C” buttons while booting, you will then see options for continue, reset all, restore version, and off. How cute that they added a Tamagotchi icon next to the off option?
Selecting the off button will power off the device! To power the device back on, you’ll need to hold the “B" button down for 5 seconds. Upon powering on, you’ll want to select “Continue” to restore all of your content.
Tumblr media
We even booted up another Tamagotchi Uni that we did not update, it’s actually running the original software, version 1.0. Trying the same trick does NOT display any further option then continue and reset. So we’re not entirely sure which software update added this new feature.
It’s interesting that this feature is nested in this boot menu, and not accessible in the main menu when booted into the Tamagotchi Uni interface. This gives us so much hope that this could one day be added, but perhaps Bandai does not wish to add it to the main menu due to the desired gameplay.

Today's the global shutdown in support of Palestine. Just clicking this is the easiest way to support Palestinian people today, and every day, during this situation. Donate to proper charities in support of Palestine, organize in public, anything you can do even if you don't have stuff like money or whatnot.
You know the words. 🍉🍉🍉

find very interest how common answer to that post is say maybe people like that mistake shutdown for meltdown , and think is fair in some way , but .
shutdown can also be obvious to others . mainly talk about self here , because in shutdown literally can not move . if have AAC on lap , can not use . if overwhelm because someone yell in face to get answer , can not cover ears . if need get up because danger ... that might be only thing able kickstart move before brain ready , follow by immediate collapse again . but ( fortunately ) never happen like this so ( unfortunately ) not really know .
can still think and feel , and especially can get hurt more if people answer wrong to shutdown , and shutdown means not have any way say what should or what want do . have one possible choice : accept whatever anyone else want do . not able object or correct or communicate , not even able hit and lash out and use body to say no . there is no no . ( there also is no yes , but people seem care far less about this . )
know for lots people shutdown is about withdraw , go quiet , brain try " cut off " input ( which can look to others like ignore ) but , can also still be very obvious . even in that sense , someone brain can possible cut off input so well that seem totally unaware about anything that not in direct focus , and that can also put in danger at wrong times .
and not sure if maybe this because have other things in brain too , but shutdown can also mean that just ... not move . and that can also be really scary , for 10 or 20 minutes there is nothing at all can do .
this often force to stay with whatever or whoever cause in first place , make even harder for brain recover , because not always able get away before start . have few minutes advance warn feel brain " tighten " , and then just … happen . if lucky can sometimes get automatic move when something itchy need scratch , but even that not for sure .
