August 24th, 2006
Soft shimmering beams danced across the newly painted walls of the cabin’s master bedroom. Light streamed in through the open curtains onto Conner’s glittering skin, sending the light in a hundred different directions. Warmth seeped into his chest, Leah’s bare body radiating heat against his own. In the days that followed the wedding, Conner had rushed to finish the construction of their cabin.
The couple had spent the time inseparable, knowing that it was just a matter of time before Leah would have to return to her normal patrol schedule. Sam had been more than understanding with allowing her the time she needed to help Conner through his transition, but they knew that the time would run out eventually. Given the opportunity, they took the chance to have the closest thing to a honeymoon that they would ever get and had rarely left the confines of their new home, only leaving for Conner to hunt or to gather food for Leah.
Everything had begun to calm down finally, the couple slowly growing used to the changes that had so quickly come their way. They were happy to be far away from any prying ears, for once in their relationship, not caring about how loud they were being whenever he found himself buried deep inside of her. Despite the continuous complications of their situation, the were happy. They were content in each other’s love.
He laid there, counting the beats of her heart as soft breaths fanned his chest where she laid. When he had first realized that he would no longer be able to sleep he was sure that the silence of night would slowly drive him to insanity, but now that he had experienced those hours of silence he knew that he was wrong. There was something about the peaceful expression on her face as she slept that made his heart melt. Maybe I was the absence of the stress that had always seemed to be present. Whatever it was, he knew that he would never grow bored of it. He would always count it as a blessing, the soft thud of her heart against her ribcage.
A sudden shrill tone rung throughout the room, pulling Conner from his thoughts. Leah stirred at his side, groaning lightly as she rolled off of him to burry her face in the plush pillow at the head of the mattress. He pushed himself to a stand, rushing over to pull his phone from the pocket of his discarded pants the laid amongst the various pieces of clothing that were strewn across the floor. His eyes scanned the phone, eyebrows furrowing as he saw the name flashing across the screen.
He clicked the answer button, closing the bedroom door softly behind him as he made his way to the living kitchen, pulling his discarded briefs back up his hips. “Bella?” He spoke, concern coating his voice. The couple weren’t scheduled to return for at least two more weeks, so the unexpected call had him on edge.
“Conner.” Bella’s voice croaked through the speaker. His cold heart clenched at the sound, something was wrong. Very wrong, and he knew it immediately. “I need your help.” She whispered. It’s all he needed to hear. The pain and fear in her voice as she made her request.
“What is it, Bells?” He asked, panic filling his chest as his mind began to wander to the many possibilities.
Bella sighed out a shaky breath, voice wavering as she answered. “I don’t have time to explain, but somehow… I know it’s impossible, but I think.” She paused, sucking in a deep breath before she let the words flow from her lips. “I think I’m pregnant.” She admitted, voice wavering.
Conner froze in his place, mind racing at her admission. “What do you need from me, Bells?” He asked, knowing that he would do anything in his power to help her in that moment.
Broken sobs fell softly through the phone, ringing in his ears. “Edward, he thinks… I don’t know. He said that he won’t let it hurt me and Carlisle will take it out.” She said, voice cracking with emotion. “You have to help me protect my baby, Conner.” She whispered tearfully.
“Of course. I won’t let them lay a finger on this baby, Bella, you have my word.” He promised. The call ended, the sudden silence ringing in his ears as his world shifted from the information.
The news had distracted him so thoroughly that he hadn’t been aware of Leah’s presence until warm arms wrapped around his waist from behind. He flinched slightly at the sudden touch, turning around to face the woman. Her face morphed into concern as she took in his serious expression. “What’s wrong?” She asked.
Conner gulped, blinking rapidly as if the whole morning had been a dream. But he knew better than that, his dreams had left him when he had changed. “Bella is pregnant.” He said.

August 31st, 2006
The tension was thick in the air when the newly weds returned home to the small rainy town. Conner’s heart crumpled as he laid eyes on his sister’s face. Dark circles surrounded her red puffy eyes. She was unwell, it was clear as day. Not only was it obvious that she had been crying, but her cheeks were slightly sunken.
Her condition only worsened as the days followed after their return. She had become a shell of herself. Bruises covered her pale flesh, bones prominent in every one of her features. Carlisle had confirmed the pregnancy, in turn, confirming Edward’s greatest fear. Alice could no longer see Bella’s future. Nothing would penetrate the embryonic sac of the baby. She was dying, slowly being tortured to death right in front of them all and there was nothing anybody could do because she had refused to lose the baby.
Despite their strenuous research, they found no new information. The whole thing was a giant mystery and they had no idea what to do. There she was, withering away at a faster rate than any of them had expected. The baby was draining her of her life, yet Conner didn’t what to do but support her like he had promised. So that’s exactly what he did.
In truth, the strenuous situation was taking a toll on them all, Edward of course taking it the worst. Conner had created an unlikely friendship with Rosalie, a companionship that shocked everyone almost as much as it had shocked himself. They were on the same side, in the end, that was what mattered. They would both be fighting for Bella and her baby and were both willing to put their safety on the line to protect the two.
It had been only a week since their return Conner had barely left his sister’s side, and Leah had subjected to do the same, refusing to leave Conner’s side. Shadows laid delicately under her eyes and it was growing obvious that whether it was the lack of good sleep or the stress of the situation, it was beginning to have an effect on her body. He knew that being so close to so many vampires was in no doubt difficult for her to manage, and he had tried to no avail to convince her that he could handle himself.
His concern only grew as Leah’s condition seemed to worsen. Despite his reasoning she had refused to return back to their newly built home. He could see the tension of stress in her shoulders, see the exhaustion in her eyes when she looked at him. It pained him to see her so overextended, so plagued by fatigue, so he had finally forced her to sleep, promising to stay by her side while she got her much needed rest.
Conner was seated on the plush couch sat in the living room, Leah’s head laying comfortably in his lap. His fingered threaded gently through her hair, scratching softly at her scalp as soft sighs left her parted lips. Silence filled the room, spare the soft thudding of three heartbeats. Bella, Leah, and the fast pace of the baby’s. Music to his ears if anyone asked him, the reassurance of their safety. He basked in the sound, counting the beats, finding his stress slightly ease as he focus weened.
Suddenly, the beats were off. It took him a moment to realize what his ears were hearing as it slowly clicked in his mind. Four heartbeats. One Bella’s soft thudding, pulling her weak body along. Two, Leah’s in which he knew all too well. Three, the baby’s no doubt, about twice as fast as the women in the room with him. Except the fourth was much like the third. Confusion filled his mind as he racked his brain trying to figure out where the noise was coming from.
His fingers stilled on her scalp, suddenly frozen at the thought that had crossed his mind. No. It wasn’t possible. Right? Surely not. It didn’t make any sense. Leah stirred in his lap, feeling him tense underneath her. Her eyes fluttered open, a look of concern growing on her face as she studied the far off expression on his own. “Baby?” She muttered, failing to gain his attention. She pushed herself upright into a sitting position. “What’s wrong?” She asked, bringing her warm palm to his cheek to turn his face towards hers.
He blinked, trying to bring the world back into focus. Leah and him had never used any form of protection, under the impression that she wasn’t able to get pregnant in the first place, but what were the chances that she was able to? What were the chances that she would fall pregnant right after they so conveniently found out that the whole thing was even possible after Conner changing?
The thoughts raced through his mind a mile a minute as his eyes flickered down to her stomach. The sight of the slight roundness of her torso blazed in his head. Hope sparked in his heart, almost immediately followed by fear. It all made sense, the fatigue, the wear on her body over the past week. He had no idea what this would do to her, how it would effect her. If it would effect her in the same way it had been effecting Bella, and fear gripped his throat at the thought. Hell, he didn’t even know if Leah would want this like Bella did.
The thought of losing another child felt like the venom was burning through him all over again, but he knew that in the end he wouldn’t blame Leah for any decision she ended up making, because in the end, it was her body and her life, so it was her right to choose. The thought of loosing her, loosing Leah, hurt a thousand times more. He shook the thoughts from his head, knowing that he was getting carried away with himself. He didn’t even know if his suspicions were correct. One thing was for certain. “We need to see Carlisle.” He said, his eyes finally meeting hers.
Her confusion only deepened at his words. “What do you mean?” She asked, letting her hand drop from his cheek.
His jaw set in a hard line. “Listen.” He said softly, grasping her head in both of his hands, staring deep into her eyes. “How many heartbeats do you hear?” He asked, voice low and serious.
Leah tilted her head, focusing on the soft thrumming as she closed her eyes. It was if the pieces were slowly coming into place until realization suddenly struck. Her eyes shot open, wide with shock. Her heart pounded against her ribcage, a lump forming in her throat. Impossible.
——————
“I don’t understand how this is even possible. I don’t even get my period. We haven’t been safe as far as using protection at all, so how did this even happen?” Leah stuttered out, the words flowing almost faster than her brain could comprehend. The sonogram had shown the same as Bella, nothing. The baby’s embryonic sac was too thick for the machine to penetrate, so it was plain as day. Not only was she pregnant as well, but it had been conceived after Conner had been bit.
It was obvious now that they knew, the soft roundness of her belly protruding under her t-shirt. If they hadn’t had been so distracted by Bella, they probably would’ve noticed sooner.
“This whole situation is completely new to us.” Carlisle started, running his long pale fingers through his blonde hair, stress covering his face like a veil. “We didn’t even know it was possible for a male vampire to reproduce until a week ago, so unfortunately I don’t exactly have an explanation for you.” He said.
Conner ran his hands over his face, growing more and more anxious by the minute. He sighed, reaching over to grip Leah’s hand in his own, knowing that her panic must’ve been much worse than his own in that moment. “Do you have a theory? Will she be okay?” He asked desperately. He had to know that she would be okay. The possibility of losing Bella was bad enough, but it was just that. A possibility. Bella had the change of being bitten at the last minute to save her life, but Leah didn’t have that chance. Venom would only harm her more.
The immortal doctor offered the couple a small smile, trying to ease the panic filling the room. “My best guess is that because after you turned, the sperm was then able to survive the hotter temperatures of Leah’s body while, normally, sperm can’t survive over about ninety-nine degrees and ends up dying off.” He explained, trying to make sense of it the best he could with his medical knowledge.
He turned to Leah, giving her his full attention. “The good news is, given your supernatural abilities and rapid healing, I don’t see you facing the same complications as Bella. You shouldn’t have anymore trouble than a human would with a normal pregnancy.” He said, watching as some of the stress left their shoulders, and audible sigh being heard around the room.
“That being said,” He continued. “We’re still not sure exactly what this fetus is, and how much of a threat it can pose. The closest thing we have to compare it to is an immortal child of our kind, which are extremely dangerous. You have the same choice as Bella of course, whether or not you wish to… terminate the pregnancy.” He said. The words clenched at Conner’s heart, refusing to let it show on his face. He refused to let his own feeling on the matter contribute to Leah’s decision. It was her body and her choice to make. “I’ll leave you two alone so you can discuss this.” Carlisle finished, leaving swiftly from the room.
And then they were alone, Leah sitting in her place on the examination table staring at the wall in front of her. Her mind moved sluggishly, the shock seeming to freeze everything else around her. The cold press of lips to the back of her hand pulled her from her thoughts. “I’m so sorry, Leah.” Conner muttered, venom pricking at his eyes where the tears had long since dried up.
Slowly, her free hand moved to lay across the barely there baby bump that had begun to form. Even though she couldn’t feel movement yet, she knew it would be there soon. “I understand if you don’t want this. It’s your decision to make, and I promise I will be by your side no matter what.” Conner said, red eyes looking deep into her own.
She sat there gazing into the eyes of the man she loved with all of her heart. She had been so certain at one point that all vampires were monsters, yet here she was, completely in love with one. Who said that it couldn’t end the same for this baby. Suddenly, she realized that she would never be able to get rid of something that had been created in such love. Something that was half him had to be a blessing. She knew that there was no way in hell that she would take a second child away from him, and her heart grew, filling with the newly found love that she held for her unborn child.
Her eyes softened, filling with tears as the emotions began to overwhelm her. “Con.” She said gently, brushing her warm fingertips across his cheek. “I’m not letting anyone touch this baby.” She reassured him, knowing that the trauma of his past had to be torturing him in that moment.
A shaky sigh left his lips, forehead dropping to her thigh. “Oh, thank god.” He muttered against her skin as relief flooded through him. He knew it wouldn’t be easy, and they sure as hell were unprepared, but he was sure in that moment that everything would work out. He lifted his head, pressing his lips firmly to her stomach.  “I love you and I love this baby so much.” He said, voice thick with emotion.
Tears slowly fell from Leah’s eyes as she took in the sight. The struggle was far from over, that much was clear, but she refused to keep that from letting her be happy. She had gone months, fully convinced of her inability to conceive and then there she was, having a baby with her imprint, another thing she had convinced herself she would never experience. Yes, they would have a lot of shit to face in the near future, but that didn’t stop them from being happy in that moment.
——————
September 7th, 2006
In the following days, Leah’s body had changed quickly. The pregnancy progressed at a quick rate, her belly swollen to almost triple the size in just a week. She had even begun to feel the kicks of the baby, and the couple tried to prepare themselves the best they could for the oncoming arrival. While still sticking by his sister’s side, his focus had deterred slightly, making Leah’s health his main priority.
Eventually, the phone calls from their father had begun to trickle in, and he had been left to answer his questions, trying to talk down the panic that was beginning to fill his chest. To his knowledge, Bella had gotten sick with something while on their honeymoon and were waiting to travel until she started feeling better. The situation pained Conner to no end. Not only was the possibility of losing Bella extremely high, but he also, as usual, had to lie to Charlie about what was really happening. He hated the deceit and hated the fear and stress in Charlie’s voice.
If it hadn’t been for the unease swirling in his stomach at the thought of leaving, he would’ve drove into Forks himself to comfort the man. He didn’t trust the majority of the vampires around him anymore. He knew that their only thoughts were of concern about Bella’s safety and what the baby was doing to her, but it was Bella’s choice at the end of the day, not theirs. If she was willing to put her life on the line for her unborn child, he wasn’t going to stop her. No matter how much it hurt to see her be torn away. He knew all too well what the feeling of losing your child was like, and he wasn’t about to put her through that on his own terms.
Leah had remained distant from the pack, knowing that once they found out about the two pregnancies that all hell would break loose. Sam had trusted in Conner, sure, but that would surly change once he found out. The rest of the pack’s trust of vampires was iffy say the least, and they would in no doubt feel threatened by the existence of these babies. It was just a matter of time before shit hit the fan, they all knew it. Just a matter of time before the wolves found out and their safety be put on the line. So, it hadn’t surprised him when Jacob finally showed.
The knock had sounded on the door and Conner knew then and there that things were about to become even more complex. He had been in a separate room of the house, laying with Leah as she slept. He moved slowly, gently removing himself from under her as he quietly left the room. She would be safe for the time being, but he knew he was needed in that moment to protect Bella from anything that Jacob may do.
“ls it true?” Jacob asked from the next room over, anger and tension lacing his voice.
Conner flitted to the living room, taking a casual seat next to his sister as he mentally prepared himself for what was to come.
Carlisle smiled politely at the boy. “Hello, Jacob, how are you?” He greeted cautiously.
Jacob looked at the pale man, deadpanned as he pushed his way past further into the home. “Listen, just give it to me straight.” He said.
Beside Conner, Bella perked up the noise. “Jake, is that you?” She called out, a small smile growing on her face, unable to stop the happiness from showing on her face as she heard the voice of her best friend.
“She's here?” Jacob asked.
“They came home two weeks ago.” Carlisle confirmed, following the werewolf towards her voice.
Everybody stood on edge as he entered the room, waiting for the bomb to finally blow. Rosalie took a defensive stance in front of the girl, blocking her from his view, while Conner came to a stand behind her fragile frame, gripping the edge of the couch, his fingers digging into the soft material.
“I'm glad you came.” Bella said, relief coating her voice.
Jacob took a step forward, Rosalie stopping him in his tracks, snarling slightly as she spoke. “Close enough.” She said stiffly, building a physical wall protectively between the two.
“What's your problem?” He asked incredulously, eyebrows furrowing in confusion.
“Rose, it's okay.” Bella assured, urging Rosalie to move out of his path of sight. She fidgeted nervously with the quilt that covered her, weak heartbeat speeding up slightly as he came into view and replaced Conner in the seat next to her.
Jacob sighed, grimacing slightly. “You look terrible.” He admitted, raising his eyebrows.
“Yeah, it's nice to see you, too.” She answered jokingly, a small smirk growing on her lips.
Jacob’s eyes flitted around the room. “So, are you gonna tell me what's wrong with you?” He asked expectantly, voice soft as he looked at the weak girl before him.
Bella sighed, looking down at her shaking fingers once more before speaking. “Rose, you wanna help me up?” She asked the blonde, throwing the covers off her swollen belly. Dark purple bruises littered the translucent skin, Bella rushing to pull the fabric of her t-shirt down to cover the exposed area.
Jacob sucked in a shaky breath at the sight, pained confusion crossing his features as his eyes flickered around to the steeled faces around him. Anger grew as his eyes landed on Edward. His body moved forward automatically, fury ripping through him as he growled out at the pale man. “You did this!” He yelled, voice deep and threatening.
Emmett’s hand shot up, stopping the teen in his place, eyebrows furrowed in an anger of his own. “I didn't know it was even possible.” Carlisle reasoned, trying to no avail to calm the boy.
Jacob huffed, pushing Emmett’s hand violently from his shoulder. “What is it?” He asked, turning to face the man.
“I'm not sure. Ultrasounds and needles won't penetrate the embryonic sac.” Carlisle explained gravely.
Alice stepped forward, face solemn as she spoke. “I can't see it, either. And I can't see Bella's future anymore.” She admitted.
“We've been researching legends, but there isn't much to go on. What we do know is that it's strong. And fast-growing.” Carlisle continued.
Jacob rolled his eyes, walking closer to the man as his voice rose in volume. “Why haven't you done anything? Take it out of her!” He said sternly. Conner’s shoulders tensed, a harsh glare present on his face as he eyed the tanned teen.
“This is none of your business, dog.” Rosalie said harshly.
“Rose!” Esme chided. “All this fighting isn't good for Bella.” She reasoned, trying  to calm her down.
“The fetus isn't good for Bella.” Alice snarled.
“Say the word, Alice. ‘Baby’. It's just a little baby.” Rosalie huffed, the words tightening Conners chest.
“Carlisle, you've gotta do something.” Jacob said, stress and worry coating his voice.
“No.” Bella interjected. “It's not his decision. It's not any of yours.” She said sternly.
Edward moved forward towards the wolf, ushering him to follow. “Jacob, I need to talk to you.” He muttered, leading the way outside to the woods.
Conner rested a reassuring hand on Bella’s shoulder, attempting to give the girl some sense of comfort as they waited for their return. Like most days as of late, the sadness was clear in her eyes as she stared off in the direction of her husband and best friend.
When Jacob finally returned, she had requested privacy, so, reluctantly him and Rosalie had agreed to leave the two alone. Tension filled the air as they waited, on their toes, ready to jump to protect Bella at any moment. Even Conner didn’t trust Jake as he stood there, so there was no doubt that Rosalie didn’t trust him either.
Raised voices broke Conner from his thoughts. “Jacob, don't go.” Bella pleaded as Jacob pushed past Conner, his sight straight on his exit.
“I know how this ends. And I'm not sticking around to watch.” He muttered, glaring at Conner as he exited the home. Conner followed, determined to leave the boy with something to think about before he left.
“Jake.” He called, gaining his attention. Wind whipped around them as the stood a few feet apart on the open lawn. “Think about this, okay? You can’t expect her to end the life of her child.” He reasoned. “That’s her decision, not yours or anyone else’s for that matter.” He said, eyebrows furrowed as he spoke.
The wolf scoffed, rolling his eyes as he turned back to the pale man. “This is not the same as Ellie, Conner.” Jacob argued, causing Conner’s jaw to tense as anger boiled in his chest.
“Jacob!” Leah’s voice snarled through the clearing, Conner’s head whipped around, his eyes falling on his wife. There she stood on the stairs of the entryway, round belly on full display through the thin cotton of her shirt as she snarled at the fellow wolf. A heavy glare was set on her face as she stared him down, face red with fury. The loud voices had no doubt woken her, and hearing what Jacob had just said had clearly set her on edge.
Jacob’s eyes widened as they trailed down her body to her swollen stomach. He couldn’t believe what he was seeing for a moment. Surely his eyes sere playing tricks on him, but then it all made sense. Of course Conner was defensive of the monster growing inside of Bella. He had created his own inside of Leah.
“Sam is going to kill you.” He muttered, giving one last look to the pale immortal before turning to run into the woods.

Part Seven
Being away from Paul was harder than you anticipated. You found yourself much more agitated than usual, snapping at your parents when they asked you questions, and finding it hard to sit still. You did your best to hide this, not wanting to give your parents any more reasons to be suspicious. Still, they took your new attitude to heart, and one night at dinner, they decided to approach you about it.
“Sweetheart, we’re just worried about you. You’ve been… different the past few weeks.” Your mother began, gently placing her fork down on her plate.
“Oh have I? I haven’t noticed.” You grumbled, pushing your mashed potatoes into a pile before flattening them down again.
Your father sighed, shaking his head. “Y/N, please don’t be difficult. You’ve been so hostile and closed off recently. We just want to know what’s going on in your life. How are your friends?”
“They’re fine. I only see them during lunch, so I don’t really know what’s going on with them.” You answered curtly, not having the will to give them additional information.
Your parents shared a look, before returning their gaze to you.
“Is this about that boy?” Your mother questioned, picking her fork up and shoveling peas onto it. “I can’t imagine another reason for this behavior.”
You laughed a little, which surprised them. “You really can’t? Mom- you grounded me and took my phone away during the last few months of my senior year. All I do is go to school, then sit alone at home until you guys get off of work. I can’t even talk to anyone to pass the time, so I just sit and reread everything on my bookshelf. Of course I’m going to be annoyed all the time. It has nothing to do with Paul.”
“You understand we’re just trying to keep you safe, right?” Your father asked, his voice soft for such a bold statement.
“Yes. You’re keeping me safe from the dangers that Bella made up.”
Your mother sighed, her voice heavier than your fathers. “Charlie said Bella had expressed the same concerns to him, Y/N. Why would she lie to her father, the chief of police, about these people being dangerous?”
“Because she was hurt! Her and her friend Jacob got into a fight, so she was worried it was because he had fallen into a bad crowd. She realized she was wrong, and she apologizes to me every time I see her. Yes she told Charlie what she thought, but she still spends everyday on the Reservation with them! Charlie’s best friend is Jacob’s father, who is more than knowledgeable about that everyone is up to. They both know that no one’s in a gang or doing drugs.” You argued, frustration sweeping over you.
Both of your parents seemed unsure of what to say, so the conversation fell away. You finished eating and headed up to your room once you had cleared the table and washed the dishes.
You had finished your homework during the day, and it was too early to go to bed. You felt restless- like an animal with their arm caught in a trap.
You’d barely been able to talk to Paul, except the few times during lunch you would borrow someone’s phone to call him. He started recognizing the numbers, and usually picked up during the first ring. You knew he should have been sleeping, since nights were spent patrolling, but you couldn’t find it in yourself to care much about disturbing him, since you knew that both of you were struggling being apart.
The hold that the imprint bond had on you wasn’t something you were prepared for. Aside from feeling bummed about not seeing Paul, you didn’t think much else would happen. Yet, after the first week of being grounded, you started having problems falling asleep. You’d lay awake at night and wonder where he was, what he was doing. It was like he had consumed every thought you had- everything led back to him. You knew in your heart that he must be in even worse shape than you were, and with his head clouded by thoughts of you, worry over his safety became unbearable. He was out hunting vampires- how could he do that while spending all of his time thinking about you?
After a while of being lost in your own thoughts, you heard a knock at your bedroom door. You grabbed the book that was on your nightstand in attempts to look busy, and called them to come in. Both of your parents appeared in the doorway, small smiles on their faces.
“Hi honey. Can we come in? We wanted to talk with you.” Your father spoke, entering your small room anyway.
You crossed your legs to give them room to sit on your bed, and they both did. They looked at each other coyly, before handing you your cellphone without a word.
“Woah- wait. What’s going on?” You asked, clutching the phone in your hands.
“We… talked to Charlie a little bit ago, and he corroborated everything you said. He apologized for Bella’s behavior and any inconveniences she may have caused, and said that the boys on the reservation were probably better influences than the boys in Forks. We’ve decided to unground you.” Your mother answered, reaching out to grab your arm gently.
Your father cleared his throat, his stern eyes looking at you over his glasses. “There are some more rules, however. We would like to meet this Paul fellow as soon as possible. We trust you as an adult to make your own choices, but we are still your parents. You seem to care quite a bit about him, and I’d imagine you’ll want to have him around here, too. If you’re hanging out at our house, you need to stay in the living room. He needs to leave by 9 during the week, and 11 on the weekends. Additionally, if you are going to out, your curfew is still 10 on school nights. However, seeing as you are leaving for college soon, we’ll extend your weekend curfew until midnight. You need to keep your phone on you at all times, and respond when we call, alright?”
You squealed a bit and lunged forward, taking both your parents in a huge hug. “Thank you, thank you, thank you! You have no idea how much this means to me.”
They hugged you back lovingly, your mother whispering to you. “We love you.”
“I love you guys too.”
~~~
The next day at lunch, you sat down at the table, and pulled your phone out of your pocket, holding it up triumphantly.
“No way! You got your phone back? Does that mean you’ll stop using my minutes?” Jessica asked, her eyes wide with excitement.
“Yes! Aaaaand, it means I’m officially no longer grounded.” You yelled, smiling widely.
Everyone cheered, Mike especially since he had been so keen on breaking you out of your house.
Bella sat down in the middle of the commotion, and eyed everyone weirdly. You filled her in on the news, and a wave of relief visibly coursed through her.
“Oh good. Paul will stop moping around when he finds out you’re ungrounded. Have you talked to him yet?” She asked, picking up her sandwich and taking a bite.
You shook your head, “Actually, I was thinking of surprising him. I need your help.”
Bella readily agreed, seemingly wanting to do whatever she could to make up for the chaos she inevitably caused. You didn’t mind that she felt she needed to make it up to you, even if you weren’t upset anymore.
You finalized the details for the next day with her and Jacob, before your lunch period ended.
Jacob was going to get the pack to First Beach the next afternoon, where you and Bella would show up and surprise them. You could imagine the look on Paul’s face when he saw you, and the thought of that alone made you giddy.
You glided through school, all thoughts consumed by the boy with the leather jacket and kind heart who was waiting desperately to have you back in his arms.
~~~
Bella pulled into the first parking spot she found, and you were practically bouncing in your seat. As soon as the engine was off, you were out of the truck and moving toward the beach. She laughed at your excitement, smiling at the way you couldn’t seem to help yourself.
When you actually got onto the sand, there wasn’t anyone else around besides the pack. They were lounging around by the water, laughing and joking with each other loudly.
You would recognize Paul anywhere, just by seeing him from behind. He was half heartedly kicking a soccer ball around with Jared and Seth- his slumped shoulders evident even from across the beach. He looked tired, much more than anyone else did. His movements were slow, like he was on autopilot instead of actually meaning them.
The familiar tug in your chest pulled at your heart, beckoning you to get closer. You couldn’t help yourself, essentially moving at full speed to run to him, leaving Bella behind.
The sand on the beach was damp with fresh rain, so it made it easier for you to move quickly. Jared noticed you first, and he called out to Paul, telling him to turn around. He did, just seconds before you had made your way over to him. He didn’t even have time to react to seeing you before you jumped into his arms. He picked you up at once, and swung you around, pulling you tightly against his body. The two of you laughed, happy to be back in one another’s arms.
“It’s you. Jesus it’s actually you.” Paul murmured, once he placed your feet back underneath you.
“It’s me.” You breathed, inhaling his scent as deeply as you could.
Paul rested his chin on the top of your head, and the two of you stayed entwined. You felt the stress of the last few weeks melt away at his touch, and high at the feeling of being with him once more.
Paul pulled away to look at you, smiling widely. “How are you here? Did Bella break you out of prison for the day?”
“I’m actually free. My parents talked to Charlie, and he told them that you guys aren’t gang members or drug addicts. Plus they were getting annoyed with my constant moping around the house.” You responded, resting your hands against Paul’s large chest.
At this, he pulled you against him again, and whispered to you. “I’ve missed you so much.”
“I’ve missed you too.” You responded, “More than I think I should have.”
He released you with a kiss on the forehead, and you felt your face warm up at the gesture. He took your hand and intertwined your fingers together, tugging you over to sit down on one of the many beach blankets they had laying around.
Leah gave you a soft smile, “Glad you’re here, Y/N. Paul’s been absolutely insufferable without you.”
Bella had finally made her way over to the pack, and she sat next to Jacob, their sides touching. “Yeah, Y/N wasn’t much better.”
You shrugged in response, letting your shoulder rest against Paul’s. “What can I say? I’ve grown fond of this idiot.”
Everyone laughed lightly, shaking their heads at the way you and Paul seemed to glow together. The pack filled you in on the last few weeks apart, and you and Bella gave them updates on your life.
“Oh by the way, are you coming to Tyler’s party next weekend?” You asked Bella, tilting your head.
She shook her head in response. “I didn’t know Tyler was having a party. I wasn’t invited.”
You rolled your eyes. “It’s a party, Bella. You don’t need an invitation, there’s not going to be a bouncer.”
She laughed lightly, smiling at you. “Oh, I guess you’re right. Parties aren’t really my thing, though. Not a fan of the whole teenage drinking culture.”
“Totally understand. Tyler’s parties usually get out of hand, anyway. The amount of times it ends with us running from the cops is bad. Probably better to stay away.” You answered honestly.
“Yeah, Mike had filled me in. He’d been really stressed about you not being to go, for some reason.” She responded, but then immediately looked like she regretted it.
Paul stiffened at this, and you could tell that he was imminently jealous of Mike, and his desire to be near you. You knew Paul didn’t have anything to worry about, but you also kind of enjoyed the way he was becoming protective of you.
“Yeah, Mike and I are kind of a package party deal.” You shrugged, tossing the hair off of your shoulder. “Jessica and Eric are much more… tame when it comes to parties. So Mike and I have to work together to do as much stupid shit as possible before they stop us.”
“That is wildly concerning.” Bella replied, furrowing her eyebrows. “What do you even do at parties? The ones in movies always seem so dramatic and fictitious.”
You groaned in excitement, sitting up. “Uhm, Bella. They are exactly like the movies, and completely not. If you’re drunk enough, it feels empowering and exciting- like the lights are there for you, and you’re the only one that matters. If you’re not drunk enough, it’s a bunch of sweaty teenagers dry humping each other in someone’s living room. It’s awkward and weird and fantastic. You should really come to Mallory’s graduation party. Big of a bitch as she is, she knows how to throw a damn good party. Last summer, her jungle juice was so strong, I ended up…”
Jacob and Sam had both sent you slight glares, and you cleared your throat uncomfortably.
“Maybe that’s a story for another time.” You spoke, your face heating up.
Emily laughed a little, shaking her head. “Didn’t realize you were such a socialite.”
You blushed at her words, feeling perhaps that the pack was carrying much more important things than high school drama and shitty house parties. “Sometimes.”
“Should you really be using your new found freedom to go to a party like that?” Paul asked, looking down on you with concern.
“It’s not my friends that my parents were worried about.” You shrugged, dismissing his words. “Plus, I only have so long before I’m heading off to the other end of the country. How likely am I to see everyone together like that?”
Paul hummed, frowning a bit. “Right, college.”
“Have you made your official decision yet?” Emily asked, her curiosity seeping through her tone. “I know you have one in mind as your top school.”
You shifted a bit, suddenly feeling anxious about your future for the first time in a while. “No… I haven’t made anything official yet. I’ve declined a few schools, but that’s about it. I’ve applied to a couple more in Washington, too.”
“Washington? I thought you just said you were heading to the East Coast?” Kim questioned, glancing between you and Paul.
“That was the plan, but things change, you know? Better to be prepared and have plans than for your life to come to a grinding halt.” You answered, brushing nonexistent sand off of your pants.
Paul tensed slightly, and when you looked at him questioningly, he smiled and kissed the top of your head. You melted into his touch, the euphoria of being around him almost overwhelming.
The afternoon sun was waning, and Emily suggested that the group should pack their things and head back. Paul pulled you aside, smiling coyly.
“Would you wanna come over? We can ditch everyone else and watch a movie at my place.” He suggested, brushing your hair behind your ear.
“Your parents won’t mind?”
He shook his head, his eyes darting from your lips to your eyes. “No one else is home.”
Your eyes widened at that, and you agreed quickly. Paul seemed visibly excited, and he announced that you two were heading off on your own, and he’d drop you home later that night. You said your goodbyes to the group, as he dragged you off the beach and towards the street.
You could barely keep up with Paul’s long strides, your short legs failing you. You laughed at his relentless pace, but didn’t say anything about it. His house was only a short walk away, and as soon as you had shut the door, the silence was heavy between you.
“Er, we can watch a movie down here if you’d like. Or I have a tv in my bedroom, as well.” He offered, gauging your reaction.
“Your bedroom would be great.” You answered, letting him lead you to the back of the one story home.
When you entered his room, you could see how absolutely fitting it was for him. The walls were mostly bare, and there wasn’t much furniture aside from his bed, a night stand, and the dresser that held the tv. You immediately took off your shoes and coat, dropping yourself onto the plush covers of his King sized bed.
Paul laughed at your movements, and turned the tv on. A movie was already loaded into the VHS player, and he rewound it, unconcerned about whatever title it was. When he reached the beginning, he pressed play, and joined you on the bed.
You noticed how he kept a bit of distance between you two, and you felt your chest heat up at the notion. It was obvious your comfort came first to him, regardless of what intentions he may have had for the evening.
You sat in silence as Pulp Fiction continued on, both of you unsure of what to do with yourselves. You weren’t completely certain if it was the feeling of being by his side again, or some deeper connection, but you couldn’t stop imaging his hands running down your body. Your thoughts were plagued with dirty images of what could happen while you were alone, and the realization that you could make them come true dawned on you.
Carefully, you turned over onto your stomach, moving closer to Paul so you were nestled into his side, with your faces only inches apart. He cocked an eyebrow at your movements, but you just smiled slightly at him instead. You glanced at his plush lips, and the sudden urge to have them against yours took over.
Like lightening striking, you kissed him deeply, pushing yourself upwards a bit to be closer to him. Paul didn’t question you, his hands instead sliding up to rest on your hips, squeezing them gently. Since you hadn’t kissed since his near phasing, you had forgotten how absolutely addicting he was. You wanted to drink him in, become absolutely intoxicated on nothing but his taste.
Your hands came to rest in his hair, and you pulled on the short locks gently, causing him to moan into your mouth. The sound stirred something inside you, and you yanked harder this time.
Paul groaned, and his hands grabbed your body, moving you so you were entirely pressed on top of him. You slid your legs open, so you could straddle his waist comfortably. He pulled away from your lips, bringing his mouth down your neck, and biting slightly.
“Fuck, Paul,” you moaned, tilting your head to give him better access.
He took the opportunity to bite down harder, before his warm tongue darted out to soothe the red skin. He trailed kisses down lower, finding your sweet spot just above your collarbone.
The room was unbearably warm, and you pushed him back so he was laying down fully again. You reached for the hem of your shirt, and tugged the garment off, tossing it behind you. His eyes widened at the look of your bare chest, your boobs spilling over the cups slightly. He sat himself up then, scooting you both back so he could lean against the headboard. His hands trailed to your back, unhooking your bra swiftly.
Paul’s eyes trailed over your bare form, and he licked his lips as a toothy grin broke out on his face. “You’re going to the the death of me.”

Snapping Away | Leah x Sam
Title: Snapping Away For: anon Summary:  Leah gets hurt/almost killed in the newborn battle at the end of Eclipse, causing Sam’s imprint with Emily to break. He is in love with Leah, but she is untrusting. He is determined to get her to trust him again. Requested Word Count: 10k Final Word Count: 10,018 Rating: Explicit Relationships: Leah Clearwater x Sam Uley Tags: imprint breaking, vaginal sex, oral sex, mild anti-imprint, happy ending Read on A03 | Commission Info  Snapping Away | Part I
Sam hopes that the imprints will be safe from the fight. He sent Quill to guard them, even though the Cullens voiced protests and insisted that they were needed everywhere here, he refused to give in. He refuses to let the imprints be vulnerable in a time like this, no matter how far they are onto the reservation. If they had everywhere here, all it could take is one vampire. One mistake and they could lose everything.
He does not care that the blood suckers have their own mates, that Edward is insisting on his love for Bella; the cold ones - no one - could ever understand what it means to be imprinted on someone. To have them be your everything. Saying that they love their imprints simply is not enough. There is not a single word in their language or any language that fully conveyed that feeling, like your entire life and soul is in the palm of someone else’s hands.
He hates that this entire situation puts them at risk. He feels bitter about being dragged into the business between vampires. He knows the threat of the newborns should surpass that, but the more he looks around between the vampires, the more he thinks that it could have been avoided if the Cullens did not drag Charlie Swan’s daughter into their mess in the first place.
The cold ones were never supposed to get this close to humans.
He shakes, the fur in his wolfen form shaking off the morning dew with it. He needs to keep his head clear, for the sake of the pack, their families, their imprints. Just the thought of one of the newborns straying off and getting too close to their mates makes him growl.
“The imprints will be fine,”  Seth tries to speak up through the connection, but hearing his voice just makes Sam more irritated; the young innocence of Seth being in the middle of this does not settle right with him, even if it is his duty as a pack member.
Sam takes his frustration out on his enemy. He snaps at one of the newborns on top of one of the Cullens, the newborn’s skull crushing between his teeth like dust. The cold-one, Jasper, gives him a pointed look, like he feels Sam’s frustration, or maybe he knows Sam’s jaws got a little closer than needed. He snorts at the look they give him, but both of them understand there’s more at stake now than just an age-old feud.
“The bloodsuckers will be out soon at this rate,” Paul growls as he crushes a vampire’s body underneath his paw, biting their head and tearing it away with ease. Sam can only imagine what bliss the other wolf is feeling at being able to let loose so freely.
“Don’t get too cocky,” Sam warns, eying the newborns that climb and scramble toward them with a frenzy.
Paul only snorts, not even giving a proper response, and Sam sighs. The best he can do is only hope that Paul does not get too ahead of himself in this mess; that none of them do.
“ Leah,” Sam barks out an order, sharply, “ Take the left, protect the human.”
Leah winces, internally shrinking away as she feels her wolf cower at the voice of the alpha of the pack. She tells herself that the anger in his voice is not directed at her, just the situation. That he is just pissed that the vampires let Bella get too close. But she remembers a time when he never sounded angry at her, that he would not even dream of it. She spirals, knowing that the more she thinks about it, the more the rest of the pack can hear her.
“Bella, ” Jake growls out a correction that goes largely ignored, “ And I can take care of her.”
It is obvious that he does not trust her to do it; of course he does not. No matter how much she does for the pack, she knows that none of them do. She can hear her brother whining, but is unable to go comfort her. Sam snaps.
“No, you’re too close to the problem. She’ll do it.”
Leah has to obey. She does not get any choice, so when she traces Bella’s scent, her paws are moving before she can even think. All the Cullens circle around her, as if they could protect her. Leah watches as Edward stands in front of the human, the solid look in his eyes, the protective stance. She wonders if she was in Bella’s position, if she was being targeted like this, would anyone do the same for her? Would the pack circle around her, protect her? Would Sam?
She knows the answer, even as the Cullens surrounding Bella start to dwindle as they venture away to take care of the newborns. Leah stays as close as she can to the girl. She couldn’t move too far if she wanted to. She smells the vampire before it lunges, hears Bella’s screams before her ears ring. The vampire jumps for Bella, and Leah does not hesitate as she jumps in front of the woman. The vampire crunches in her jaws and she does not realize what happened until she feels fangs digging into her flesh, hands ripping into her fur. The pain vibrates through her system, blinding her, as she howls. she is not sure who gets the vampires off of her; Edward, she thinks, numbly.
She looks back at Bella, standing, and then takes a step forward only for her legs to give out underneath her. She looks up and sees Bella’s horrified expression. The last thing she feels is a warmth in her chest, a longing, and then the world goes black.
Sam kept a close eye on Leah. He should not. He knows where his loyalties are, where his love is. He knows that Leah means nothing to him, not anymore, as much as it was hard to understand. He knows Leah is a big girl. A strong girl. Once upon a time, it was part of the reason he fell in love with her. He knows she can take care of herself.
He is not heartless. He is forced to remember each time they shifted how she feels about him. He feels her heartbreak, her loneliness, her love. As much as he tried, he could never return it, all he could think about is Emily. All he could see is her. Leah’s hurt was overpowered by his love for the woman he left her for. So he felt obligated, as her previous lover, as her alpha, to keep an eye on her. Maybe a closer eye than he is keeping on everyone else.
So he sees it. He sees the vampire that lunges for Bella. He sees her take the bait. As she bites into the vampire aiming for Bella, the other newborns jump for Leah. The vampire in her clutches is a sacrifice for an ambush. Her pained howl is a scream of death, the sounds of an animal dying. Edward gets them off of her, but the damage is done.
Sam’s eyes dilate as Leah takes one step before crumbling, her body looking lifeless and limp. Something inside of him snaps. A string of fate cuts away, releasing whatever it is that was holding him back. His mind clears, like a fog lifting away, as the man inside of him tames the inner beast. For the first time in a while, he looks at Leah - looks at the way she is crumbled on the ground, the way her chest barely rises - and he thinks of her, not Emily.
Sam’s roaring howl penetrates through the air loudly, overpowering the sounds of the fight. The haunting sound seems to echo through to the bones of the pack, as something shifts.
_____________________
Leah cannot handle the fact that she is forced to get better in some blood sucker’s house. Why is there even a bed here, she thinks bitterly, her hands clutching the sheets, knowing the vampires don’t really need it; at what it could be used for other than sleep, her face turns into immediate disgust with the sudden urge to get out. She tries just that, but as soon as she moves, her body collapses onto the bed, leaving her staring at the ceiling with a disgusted, frustrated expression.
Her body hurts. She can tolerate the bed if it means just resting even for a little bit. She closes her eyes and she has to admit that it is nice. Not being in her wolf form, as much as she loves it, is nice. She can feel the tug of the pack in the back of her mind, but it remains clear of the pack’s thoughts. She does not have to hear them berating her, or hear Sam barking at her with such malice, or see all of Sam’s thoughts of Emily; if their shifting happened earlier, or if things had just happened differently, would she see Sam thinking of her like that?
God, she feels pathetic thinking about something like that when she almost died; she did almost die, did not she? She feels like it. She knows that from where she is, it also means she has to actually thank that blood sucker posing as a doctor for saving her. Ugh.
This couldn’t get any worse. Her nose twitches. The familiar scent of her brother lingering outside the door to the room makes her feel safe - but there’s another scent rudely protruding its way through, violently and overpowering in the way only an alpha could be. Sam.
Seth knows his sister is awake. He can not explain how he knows it. She has not made any particular noise, there’s been no changes in smells. But he can feel it. Just like how he can feel that she wants to be left alone. Which is why as much as it pains him, he tries his best to stand between the door and his leader, Sam.
“I don’t think that’s a great idea, Sam.” Seth tries his best to speak up, knowing that it is for his sister helps him find that courage, and he is lucky that so far, Sam has not ordered him to move. But he is waiting for the command, waiting for Sam to snap at him, and being forced to sit to the side as he watches Sam storm into her room and say whatever it is he wants to say.
he is really, really tired of that. he is tired of seeing Sam strut into her life - their life - like nothing ever happened. he is tired of seeing his sister cry, of seeing her being forced to put her emotions aside and listen to their leader. he is tired of seeing Sam break his sister’s heart.
Now, he can't even picture Sam as his brother in law; it is a hard, bitter pill to swallow.
Sam’s eyes narrow, “Why not?”
He just asked if she was awake, if he could go in. He plans on seeing her, making sure she is okay. He needs to know that she is at least healing well and not permanently hurt. He does not understand why that’s such a problem -
Oh.
He looks at the expression on Seth’s face. The way the younger wolf won’t even look him in the eye, despite trying to stand his ground, shows how nervous and scared he looks. He realizes what Seth expects him to do - what Leah would expect him to do. What he usually does when she gets hurt or something happens. When he does not ignore her, he would bark his way through everything, including her. Reprimand her for not doing better.
Something in his chest twists. He takes a step back, and really looks at the way Seth refuses to look at him. Her younger brother has never been that scared of him before; he can even remember just how chipper and friendly the boy has always been.
When did that change?
“I - I guess she is still sleeping,” Sam finally speaks, swallowing thickly, “Let her rest. When she wakes up, let her know that we have her patrol shifts covered until she recovers. I should go check in with the others.”
Seth does not quite trust the way Sam suddenly backs off, but he does let his guard down, relaxing a bit as he realizes there’s not going to be a fight.
“Jacob is with Bella,” Seth tries to be helpful, “I think the others have already gone to Emily’s house to make sure their imprints are okay.”
The imprints. The word washes over him like ice, chilling him to his veins. Emily. Sam’s mouth suddenly feels dry, her name not filling him with a sense of purpose like it before. The name feels hollow. Empty and meaningless, just a name to a face. Just the thought of her starts to make him feel something he is never felt since the imprint - regret.
Sam’s glad he already has his back to the other boy, thankful he won’t see the way Sam’s expression drops. He absently scratches at his chest and just gives a simple nod before turning out the door.
Part II
Leah is relieved when she can finally stretch her legs and get out of the Cullens’ house. To their credit, they left her alone while she recovered, but she doubts that was much for her sake. But she still feels oddly hollow as she leaves. No pack member comes to make sure she is okay or help her home. No one cheers for her or her recovery. She knows that Seth would have been, but her little brother has picked up a lot of the slack left in the pack from her being gone.
Staring out at the forest line, a wave of melancholy washes over her. For her whole life, the forest has been home. When she shifted, after the shock wore off, it felt like it validated the way she is connected to the woods. Now, she feels like she is waiting to enter her own personal hell. To go back to Sam, the pack, Emily.
“Leah,” Bella’s scent reaches her. “Can - Can I talk to you? Before you go, I just -”
Bella fiddles with the sleeves of her shirt. She doesn't know how to tell Leah that she is worried that the second Leah goes back to the pack that she will never get a chance to talk to her. The chances they get to talk without outside interference is extremely rare; especially now that Leah has shifted. But Bella knows that each time they do get that chance, she cherishes it. She always has. Even though Jacob Black is her childhood best friend, Leah is a friend too.
Leah just nods, lingering on the forest, but she does not hear or feel Sam’s influence. No pull to leave just yet. When she fixes her gaze on Bella, she notices the nerves right away.
“What’s wrong?”
She can not understand why Bella would pull her aside like this, though the excuse to postpone going back is welcome.
“Nothing is wrong , I just -” Bella sighs heavily, “I just don’t really get the chance to talk to you and right now, you’re the only friend I really have that knows the truth about everything.”
Leah finds that hard to believe. Bella is a sweet girl, one who should not be as mixed up as she is in all of this supernatural mess. But despite how popular Bella may be, she supposes Bella has a point. Her options for talking to someone about this - the battle, the understanding that there is more out there, all of it - is limited.
Leah raises a brow, “I thought the Cullens were your friends now? I am sure Alice would love to talk, she is pretty  chatty.”
Leah winces as she says it, the bluntness of her words coming off a bit cattier than she meant to. But Bella just laughs.
“ That - that is exactly why you’re the friend I need right now. You are the only one who tells me what you actually think. Everyone here is nice, Edward is nice . But I am tired of being treated like glass.”
“You are to them, though,” Leah nudges Bella, before taking a step back when she sees Bella wince. “- to us too.”
“I guess,” Bella mutters, “But I did not mean just physically. No one here will actually talk to me or tell me what to do or if I am doing the right thing -”
She sighs in frustration, “Like seriously, Leah. What do you think of a woman who falls in love with a vampire? A vampire who actually cares about her, protects her from his world. She is best friends with a werewolf, who falls in love with her. But she loves the vampire. A vampire who asks to marry her, which she accepts, and in the process, breaks her best friend’s heart?”
Ah. So this is about that. Leah never really knows what to do about stuff like this. Girl talk. Leah crosses her arms tightly.
“Well, unfortunately you are talking to a woman who fell in love with a completely normal man, who ended up turning into a werewolf. Then her werewolf fiancé left her for her cousin - slash-best friend and now that woman is a werewolf too. A part of his pack. But she is forced to obey his every whim and command, all while watching every moment of his new love story play in her own head. If you’re looking for sympathy or shock, I don’t have any left to give you.”
Bella lets out a small, airy laugh. She nudges Leah, but the woman does not budge. “I don’t want sympathy or shock. I get that enough from everyone else.”
Her expression becomes more sober, as she continues a bit more softly, “I want your opinion. As a woman who's been through something similar to what I am about to put Jacob through. I know it is not the same situation but honestly Leah, am I doing the right thing?”
“I don’t know.” Leah answers, sincerely, “But I think you should consider yourself lucky. You get to choose. You should not let me or anyone tell you who to go for.” Leah’s chest tightens as she looks at Bella, her eyes betraying her pain. “But Jacob has shifted. He may think he loves you since he has not imprinted on someone yet, but he will. And when he does, he will leave you and go to them. You may think he won’t ever hurt you or leave you, but he will. He won’t have much of a choice either, and pretty soon, immediately,  it will be like whatever happened between the two of you never existed. It will be like you never existed.”
Leah thinks it is ironic that Bella compares her situation to Jacob’s. In Leah’s eyes, she sees more parallels to Bella. In a rare moment, she clasps Bella on the shoulder and squeezes it. Her voice pleads with Bella to not end up like her, to not end up so hurt and broken and alone.
“Since you get a choice, you should go for the one that’s less painful.”
Part III
“Keep this information to just the pack.” Billy Black sighs heavily, “I would say keep it to just yourself, but I know that’s damn impossible.”
Sam looks at the elders of the tribe in front of him. Despite being the alpha of the pack, he still feels small as the fires of the bonfire illuminate their faces. Power and wisdom is behind each of their gaze. Power he knows that he can not hold a candle to because right now, he does not even have any wisdom to balance it.
“it is going to be hard,” Billy looks at him with a stern gaze, “The pack will be unsettled. They’ll talk among each other. They might be more nervous around their imprints. They might act out or have questions. You have to keep them under control, do you understand?”
Sam nods and Billy continues, “Don’t let the imprints know everything just yet. Keep them in the dark as long as you can, order the others to do the same. I don’t know how long that will last, but we have to try. I don’t want any imprints telling their wolves to do anything crazy because they feel insecure.”
Sam winces. He can not see any of them doing something like that, but he supposes it is possible. An imprint could use that bond, that pull, for their own benefit. They could have their wolf run away with them, in theory, away from the pack, away from the reservation. It has happened once before - a very well kept secret between the elders and the leader of the current pack.
“Does Emily know that something is wrong yet,” another elder questions gently, “Could this be you misunderstanding something?”
He knows the elder does not mean it in a negative way, but Sam bristles at being second guessed, even if it is by an elder.
“Emily suspects something is wrong. When I got back from the battle, she thought I died. She said that the warmth she feels, the connection, suddenly went cold. It was like she couldn’t feel me anymore. I think she is starting to wonder why she still feels that way when I am okay.”
“So I am not misunderstanding anything,” Sam stands his ground, “The imprint connection is gone. Not severed, not cut, gone. I don’t feel anything toward Emily, at least not like that. I am not compelled by anything for her.”
“If you don’t feel anything toward her, do you feel like you did before the imprint?” Billy asks sharply. “Do you feel anything toward Leah? Considering your past engagement, has anything changed since this has happened?”
Sam knows what he is really asking him. With the imprint gone, can Sam just love freely? Can he feel those types of feelings for someone else now? He just really wishes that he was not being asked that with Sue Clearwater staring right at him. The more he looks at her, the more he really sees the face of the woman who was going to be his mother in law.
“I feel… different.” Sam tries his best, but it is difficult for him to find the ability to lie to any of the elders of the tribe. “I don’t feel indifferent toward her like I did before. I… I feel more aware of her. Of everything.”
He finds it difficult to tell them that he does still love Leah with Sue watching him so carefully.
“When I imprinted on Emily, it was like I couldn’t think straight. I couldn’t even acknowledge what I used to feel toward Leah or what happened between us or how she might feel.”
It is jarring, he realizes. When he first became a wolf, it shifted everything inside of him. He felt like a completely different person, but he got used to it and then after some time, it became his new normal. He convinced himself that it was just how he was supposed to be now. But now? Now it is like all that has been ripped away from him. Every feeling, every sensation, every urge that he has felt has disappeared. He still feels the wolf inside of him, he still feels like the alpha, but his mind feels so… clear.
He feels nothing toward Emily. He thinks about her, he looks at her, and she no longer feels like the sun that his world rotates around. She no longer feels like some being that is above him, that is his everything. And now that the feeling is gone, he can look back and know that that sensation wasn’t love. Obsession, maybe, but not love.
It felt nothing like he did - like he does - toward Leah. Everything he felt toward her had felt like it was locked away, stored behind a wall, but now that the dam has broken, it has come flooding back. He loves Leah. He always has.
He has a choice now, between the woman he has felt tethered to and the woman he loved freely. He chooses Leah. He just has to see if she can choose him.
Sam looks directly at Sue. “Now I do. For what it is worth, Sue, I am sorry for what I put her and your family through.”
He feels like he has to tell her. She deserves to know how he feels about everything, about her daughter, about what happened. He feels like he needs to tell her before he even thinks about talking to Leah. After everything that he did to them, he needs that seal of forgiveness from one of the strongest women he knows before he can even think about approaching that woman’s daughter.
“Does Leah know,” Sue finally speaks up after a moment of silence.
Sam swallows thickly, “No. She just got back from recovering and I haven’t seen her. She has not shifted since the battle. I’ve kept Seth busy with patrols, so I don’t think he has had the chance to talk to her over anything he might have picked up.”
Sue smiles, leaning back in her seat, “You should.”
She grants her permission gracefully. She knows that this may complicate a lot of things between her family, but they are strong. They are Clearwaters. Whatever the outcome, they will prevail. She knows it may end up breaking Emily’s heart. As much as she feels for the position all of this may put her niece in, her daughter deserves just as much of a chance at her happy ending.
It is not Seth that tells Leah about what has been spreading through the pack conne ction. Instead, it is her own mother, who whispers to her that the elders told her to keep it a secret and do not want it spreading. She swore to them that she would leave it to the alpha to tell her, but that it would not be the first time she has lied for her children.
“Sam believes that his imprint on Emily has been severed,” Sue faces her daughter, braces herself for any type of reaction. She does not tell her daughter that Sam should be talking to her soon, or that it is possible that Sam loves her. She keeps it simple, easy to digest, and she waits.
She plants her feet on the ground. She waits to see if her daughter will shift in a fit of rage, lash out and leave her scarred. She would never blame her daughter for shifting now, for letting her emotions come out.
She does not flinch when Leah moves or when Leah screams even as Sue braces for the worst. But no wolf comes bellowing after her or out the door. Instead, Leah’s legs give out as she collapses to the ground.
Sue holds her daughter, cradles her on the wooden floor of their modest house as Leah sobs. The heartbreaking sound seems to echo through the empty house as her body shakes. It is an ugly sob, one that leaves her mouth feeling dry and cottony, one that makes her nose suddenly feel stuffy like she can not breath as tears run down her cheeks.
“It is not fair,” she cries, her voice wavering and broken, it is the only thought she can voice out loud. “ It is not fair, it is not fair.”
How dare Sam’s imprint with Emily break now? When she was starting to get used to it, accepting it; she would never be happy, but she could accept it. She has gotten good at swallowing her feelings, keeping it out of the pack connection. She got good at pretending to be happy. She learned to place nice with Emily. When Sam first imprinted on Emily, all she could think was why wasn’t it her? Why couldn’t her fiancé imprint on her? Love her? Obsess over her?
Everything she has carefully bottled up erupts from her. She used to dream for this moment, wish for it, pray for it. She used to pray to her ancestors that something was wrong and in her worst moments, she wished ill to Emily and Sam, for them to suffer like they made her suffer. She used to pray that one day he would wake up. At the beginning, she used to imagine him suddenly realizing that he does not love Emily, that it has been her all along. He would come running to her immediately, sweeping her off her feet, kissing her, telling her that he loves her.
But now? Now that it has happened, that it is real, she is not sure that is what she wants anymore. She does not know what she wants from this. She does not know if she could trust him, if she would spend every day wondering if he would leave her again. She does not know if she can trust Emily. She does not know what something like this will mean for the pack - for her.
She has no idea how this will play out, how things will end. She is suddenly washed over with anxiety as she goes over the worst case scenarios, like everyone blaming her for the imprint breaking, Emily vocally hating her, her entire life somehow becoming even worse.
It takes time before she calms down. A lot of time. Her mother stays with her through it all, holding her tightly as she rubs circles on her back. Leah gets a sense of deja vu, with her mother doing the same when she sobbed for hours over her father’s death and when Sam when he first imprinted on Emily. She is not sure how she feels that she keeps ending up like this over a guy.
When her mind starts to clear, as she wipes the tears from her eyes, she starts to think that maybe it will not be that bad. Maybe somehow this will end up okay.
“We will get through it,” her mother swears to her, “We are Clearwaters and we are strong. You are strong.”
Something about hearing that from her mother, the strongest woman she knows, makes her break down in tears again.
Part IV
Emily knows that something is wrong. She has known that since the battle. She can not ever explain the way she felt during the battle. How she was in the house with the other imprints, trying to soothe all of them while she felt that same nerve wrecking fear for not only their lives but the lives of their pack. Then it hit her. Like something knocking the wind out of her, she felt like for just a second, every part of her had just stopped, and when it started again it was like being revived. But she wasn’t quite the same.
The imprint connection - that warmth that she grew to love, the kindle of the fire in her heart, the string that tied her to Sam, to the pack - was gone.
She feared the worst, sobbed on the ground in the privacy of the kitchen, trying not to alarm the others. She had put on a brave face, held herself together in their company, because she thought that was what he would have wanted. But then he came back. Alive. She was happy, she thought, but then when their eyes met, it felt like she was looking at a stranger.
The connection never came back, so she bided her time by doing the cooking for the pack, taking care of the imprints, putting on a facade, knowing deep down that when Sam finally got the courage to come see her, to talk to her, things would never be the same.
She does her best to prepare herself. She packs her things. The imprints start to bother her for answers, noticing the behavior and the way the house seems more empty. She does not know what to tell them, but she does tell them what she can. They are all shaken at the thought of the imprint they have just disappearing in a blink, and she sees the hesitation in their eyes as they look at their wolf partners.
“I am sorry,” Sam has the audacity to apologize.
This is Sam. The man she gave up everything for. He never asked her to, but she did so gladly. She did not care much at the time that it meant that the close bond she had with her family would never be the same. That the friendship she had with her cousin may never recover. She did it all for him. The worst part is that she knows that while the imprint may have given her the feelings she had, the choices were all hers.
“Do you still love me,” she asks, “Even without the imprint, do you still love me?”
His silence is all the answer she needs. She wishes that she felt something, anything. Anything to justify everything that she has done all this time, but she still feels oddly indifferent.
“Do you love her,” Emily continues, “Do you - do you love Leah again?”
Sam can not quite look her in the eyes, “I don’t think I ever really stopped.”
The imprint is gone with everything he has ever felt toward Emily. All that is left is the man, the man who loves her cousin, the man who knows he messed up. The wolf still howls at him, clawing to try to make sense of this shift, but he knows he can tame it. He will tame it. His hands start to shake and when he takes a step toward Emily, she flinches.
He takes a step back, “We’ll figure something out, but I don’t think you can stay here.”
She looks at Sam carefully. She tries to see an ounce of the man she had fallen in love with, the one that obsessed over her, fawned over her. The one who would do anything for her. She always told herself that it was not the imprint that made her love him, but looking at him now, maybe it was.
“Most of my things are already packed,” she admits, “Just let me talk to my cousin before I leave.”
When Leah hears the news that Emily is moving, likely out of the reservation entirely if the rumors are to be believed, she finds herself meeting her cousin at the moving truck sitting outside of the house that is unofficially the imprints’ nest. Seeing her cousin’s things packed into boxes, ready to go without much thought, makes the truth of the imprint breaking all too real.
It seems like the entire area is cleared the moment that Leah is spotted. While Paul and Sam are nowhere to be seen, the others quickly finish their heartfelt goodbyes to Emily before shuffling their imprints into the safety of the house. She hates the mixed looks she gets as they do so - some looking at her with pity, others with contempt as if it is her fault that this is happening. Whatever. She already knew that between the two of them, Emily is always the most loved.
It is painfully obvious with the way the imprints are visibly torn up by Emily’s departure. At least with them in the house, Leah does not need to worry about any of them lashing out at her. She would never hurt an imprint, but she knows that her words can be a bit callous; one of the wolves may take it as a threat if she is a bit too crass with their imprint.
She tries to at least be thankful that Sam is not here, but that thankfulness is a bit bitter since despite being an ‘alpha’, Sam still has not spoken to her directly. The longer he waits, the more the anger starts to linger in her chest, the more she wants to lash out at him the second she sees him, the more she becomes uncertain about what this all means.
“He still loves you,” Emily speaks up first. She scratches at the scar on her face. With the imprint gone, she  has started to notice it more and more with each passing day. She’d never say it out loud, but she is thankful to get out of the reservation, out of the pack.
Of course Sam would still tell her that before telling Leah. It does not surprise her that even now, Emily is the first to know. Emily is the first he talks to. Emily is the one who knows everything. She shifts a bit on her feet. Despite that, she still knows Emily is telling her the truth. That she is not just saying something to make her feel better.
Leah snorts, crossing her arms, “Yeah? Well maybe that means you can be my maid of honor this time around. Ya know, like what we originally planned.”
Leah spits it out bitterly, and a bit crassly. Her and Emily had planned their weddings for years growing up, always planning to be each other’s maid of honor. When Leah had been engaged to Sam, they actually put that childhood pack into motion. She had come into town because they were planning on going to the city to pick out dresses. They did pick out dresses. Emily fawned over the wedding dress Leah decided on, while Leah turned around and did the same as they found the perfect bridesmaid dress for Emily. They came home, laughing, filled with anxious nerves over what is to come.
Leah will never forget what happened. The way that she saw Sam and lit up, excited to tell him about their day, excited to tease him over the fact that she picked out a dress, and she was even excited to introduce her favorite cousin to her favorite man. Sam did greet her first. He did give her a kiss. He did hold her in his arms for a moment before turning to introduce himself to Emily, but then his eyes locked with hers.
Everything went downhill fast from there. In fact, it rather snowballed like an avalanche that she could not escape the damage of.
As far as Leah is concerned, Emily deserves this. Emily deserves to get some idea of what she felt that day. She deserves to know what it is like to have everything you ever want, to have a man who loves you, only for it to be gone in the blink of an eye.
Emily had taken everything from her, and instead of apologizing, instead of even trying to fight the imprint, she and Sam were engaged without much time. Emily had asked her to fulfill her childhood promise, as if Leah had not asked the same of her for the same man just weeks beforehand. Emily had the nerve to even ask if she could have Leah’s dress, since they were similar sizes, offering her previously picked bridesmaid dress in return. Leah had finally snapped after that, even took to shredding both dresses for good measure. It had made her feel a bit better at the time, but the cathartic feeling did not last long enough.
Emily was never sympathetic to Leah. She asked her if she was okay, but it always felt insincere, more out of a curtsey, and it was always in passing with witnesses, never somewhere private where Leah really could answer her. Leah said she was okay once in a muted, defeated fashion, and just like that, Emily moved on as if that meant everything was fine.
Leah does not have it in her to be sympathetic now.
It makes it easier seeing how just like before, Emily is not putting up much of a fight. She is just accepting it. As if Sam’s love is not worth fighting for. Emily is not just taking it in stride, or even gracefully, she takes it rolled over like a puppy. She takes it at face value, and accepts it immediately for what it is without much question.
Leah had come expecting something - to see Emily heartbroken, or to have some big argument, anything. Instead, Emily just looks like she is accepting everything in a snap, as if she is not too bothered by it, which in turns bothers Leah.
Leah turns away from her cousin, well, if she is not going to put up a fight, Leah is not about to start one. She has a feeling if she lingers around longer than she needs to that it may come to that.
She glances at the imprints that are watching from the window. She wonders, in the back of her mind, if the connection they had were suddenly severed, if they would feel the same way. If they would suddenly not have any feelings for their wolves, if they would take it laying down or fight for what they had.
She thinks about her little brother and hopes that if something like that were to ever happen to him, or even the other pack members, that it would be the latter. She hopes that the imprints fight for what they have, for the relationships that they have created, just for his sake.
Part V
“Sam’s on his way,” Seth comes bursting through the door, sliding across the wooden planks in a hurry, his breath panting as if he just ran. His voice rises in a frantic panic. “Sam’s on his way!!”
Leah turns to her little brother, unbothered, “What do you expect me to do about that?”
Seth thinks for a moment. He came running over. He barely even got his pants on after shifting outside of the house. He was determined to get to Leah before Sam. But now that he is here -
“I don’t know,” he admits, “I just thought I should warn you.”
She deserves that much, he thinks, instead of Sam just suddenly springing himself on his sister. Leah deserves a notice to prepare herself. But Seth does not know how to tell his sister that he just wanted to be sure to be present before shit hit the fan. That he wanted to be there in case it went south. In case he needed to protect her. He does not know how he would do that against the alpha, but he could try.
“Warn her against what,” Sam’s voice calls from the doorway in amusement as Seth jumps.
“You apparently,” Leah chimes in, arms crossed, as she looks at Sam with a raised brow, challengingly.
Seth looks between the two of them. He can see Sam flinch as Leah talks to him, and how his sister stands her ground evenly, her head held high. The tension in the room starts to become thick as Leah stares Sam down. Seth swallows thickly and decides that his sister can take care of herself before bolting.
“Apparently,” Sam repeats.
Silence. Neither of them breathes a word. Sam takes the way that Leah glares at him in stride, knowing he deserves it. He has been a bit of a coward for not showing his face sooner, going as far as not even asking her to do any pack duties while this all got sorted out. In truth, he just is not sure how much she even wanted to see him. He is blissfully unaware of the how that has made Leah feel more disconnected from the pack in the past weeks, how it has made her feel alone and confused; she is thankful, she supposes, that she did not have to handle the packs’ thoughts on top of her own, but she hates being straight up ignored.
Sam knows by now she has heard the news, that she knows Emily is gone (that particular meeting was fresh in all of the wolves’ minds). He saw what happened through the packs’ eyes during their connection as wolves, but it did not do much to help know what Leah wants out of anything. Leah had not even said much to her cousin, barely even said a goodbye. She did not even seem shaken when Emily had told Leah that he still loved her.
He just does not know how she feels about any of it. She has not said a word to anyone, or created any scene with Emily. She has not come seeking him out, demanding answers. She has not done anything except take the fact that she was not currently welcomed on patrols in stride, and talk only among her mother and her brother. She had been rather unforthcoming on anything.
He can not fully blame her. He knows that it is his fault. He is the one who was not forthcoming, he is the one who did not come to her sooner.
He sighs heavily and finally takes the first step toward closing the gap between them, “I know you’ve heard it from everyone else, but you need to hear it from me.”
He owes it to Leah to be honest and upfront. He needs to make sure she understands.
“My imprint with Emily is gone.” He confirms. “Not just severed, but gone.”
“And now you don’t love her anymore,” Leah rolls her eyes, “So you’ve what? Come here to your second choice? Or am I your third choice now since you left me for her?”
He deserves that he knows, but he still bites his inner cheek at her tone. The wolf is not happy that a subordinate is speaking back. But this is not a talk between an alpha and a pack member. This is a talk between a man and his ex-fiancée.
“Leah, I know I messed up. I can tell you everything , but it still would not excuse what I did to you and how I’ve hurt you.”
“So you came crawling back,” Leah summarizes, her lips thinning as she nods condescendingly. The anger starts to boil in her veins. “You think that just because I loved you then that I must accept you with open arms now, right? That I am just that pathetic.”
He notices the past tense. Loved. His hands shake at his sides, the wolf inside of him howling. He knows that it is unfair to expect her to still love him after everything, but he had hoped that they could salvage something. Maybe in time even get back what they used to have.
“Leah,” he repeats her name firmly to keep from cursing, his voice rising. He tries his best to keep his alpha tone in check, not wanting to force her to listen. He is done forcing her to do anything. “I am trying to apologize.”
“You’re doing a shit job at it,” she snaps, “You think an apology is enough for what you did? I love you.”
Sam stops, processing the present tense of the phrase, the way she lets it slip how she really feels.
She snarls, taking a step forward, “I had to sit there, day after day, listening to how much you loved her. I had to listen, and see everything! I know you did not even think about me once . I know you did not even feel sorry for anything!”
She gets closer to him with every word. She snarls and spits at him, baring her teeth as the wolf in her growls. She starts to close the gap between them. She knows that she could never win in a fight, just like she knows that at any moment, he could order her to stop everything, but since he has not, she is going to take her chance to let out everything that she has been holding back.
“I do now,” Sam barks back, his anger rising as she starts to yell at him, “I am sorry now and I am sorry I couldn’t say it sooner! Damnit Leah, I never stopped loving you!”
The tension in the room is palpable, like a bubble seconds away from popping. Sam does not know when she got so close to him, but she is close enough that if he just reaches out, he could touch her. He can smell her natural scent, her shampoo, her everything. Taking in that smell is all it takes for him to take a deep breath and calm his raging heart.
“The imprint - it affected a lot of things,” he tries to explain, even if it is a piss poor excuse. “It wasn’t like I stopped loving you, but it was like something would not let me acknowledge it. I tried to think of you. I tried to think about anything other than Emily and I couldn’t. It would not let me.”
He reaches out for her, his hands hovering over her arms for a moment before he gently grabs her. She lets him. She looks him dead in the eyes as he rubs his thumb over her shoulders. She tries not to tremble. She tries not to let it show just how much she has missed something so simple.
“But it is gone, Leah,” Sam repeats, “And the second it was, it was like I was suddenly flooded with everything I’ve ever held back. My love for you is still there.”
His hands slide down to hers, and he cusps them gently before raising them to his chest. His hand on her wrist, he puts her palm to his chest, “ Still here.”
She can feel the warmth radiating from his skin, and feel the way his heart is beating rapidly.
“And I know you still love me,” Sam continues more cheekily. He thinks back to what she said in her anger, the slip of her tongue, “You just admitted it.”
“I do,” she admits softly, if a bit begrudgingly. “But I can not trust you. Imprint or not, you left me.”
Sam breathes out a heavy sigh, closing his eyes as he leaned forward, pressing his forehead against hers. Her palm still rests on his chest, becoming trapped between them as he wraps his arms around her.
“I know,” he whispers, “But I want to earn that trust back, if you’ll let me.”
“You have one more chance,” Leah concedes, “ One.”
Sam holds her close, taking in the way that she feels in his arms. She still fits in his arms like always. She still leans her head on him the way she always has.
“One more chance is all I need.”
Part VI - NSFW / Explicit (Vaginal Sex, Oral Sex)
The pack is surprisingly understanding as Leah and Sam come forward with their relationship. Paul is the most unhappy about it, but he keeps most of his bitching to himself. The imprints are a little less thrilled, but Leah starts to warm up to them more without Emily’s hovering presence. They understand that she is not an imprint, but they accept her more as a member of the pack and as a fellow partner to a wolf. She finds herself becoming more of a big sister, if a bit of a crass one. The imprints take to her more when they realize that unlike their wolf boyfriends, she refuses to mince her words and will tell them everything that is going on without worry. Leah starts to understand why Bella had come to her for advice after the battle more, and surprisingly Leah starts to enjoy this new role as a brutally honest confidant.
With the dynamics so fundamentally different, they all seem to find a new happy normal. One that is different, but seemingly better.
The elders, however, are not happy, but they learn to accept Sam and Leah’s engagement.
Sam did a lot of research, with help from Sue, and he was able to argue that there are well-hidden legends of an imprint breaking, yet he could not find a single trace of a second imprint ever occurring. Leah feels comfort in the fact that her mother helped them so much by trying so hard to find anything to help them prove their case. A case that is only happening due to Sam’s status as the alpha and leader; Leah is acutely aware that they would not care as much if it had been any other pack member.
It takes time, but they are quelled over with the understanding that Sam will not imprint again and Leah admits that she is too. There is some consensus among the elders of what would happen if Leah were to imprint, the fact that she is the only female wolf in their history, they can not even be sure that she would.
She knows, deep down, that she won’t. She never felt the need to go look for her imprint like the others, nor has she felt hollow or like one half of a whole without one. She feels complete.
She looks at Sam, as he bows his head between her legs, his hands gripping her thighs. She feels more than just complete. She lets out a breathy moan, leaning her head back as her hands claw at the sheets.
Sam whispers worship between her thighs as he devours her sweet spot. His tongue laps at her, dipping in and out of her entrance before switching to tease along her folds. He places kisses around her entrance before starting to suck gently at her clit, making her twitch.
He glances up at her briefly with a wicked smile, his fingers going to her entrance.
“Are you going to ask nicely,” he teases as he traces his fingers along her folds. He loves feeling how wet she is.
“ Fuck,” she growls, “Just finger me already!”
He laughs at her snappy voice, knowing she is starting to get frustrated. He obliges with her demands, one finger sliding into her with ease. She lets out a low groan as he curls his finger inside of her. He watches her writhe as he starts to pump his finger in and out of.
She claws at his wrist desperately, her toes curling with ecstasy. It seems like this is all they have done since getting back together yet she can not get enough. Neither can he. Sam can not even think about what it was like with Emily, but it was not like this. He missed Leah.
He knows Leah. He missed the way she did things, missed the way she felt, the way she sounded, the things she liked. He is relishing the fact that he can have her again.
He starts to pick up the pace as he slides in with a second finger. He adjusts his potion to be more beside her as he takes her down to the base of his fingers. He holds her close to him as she wiggles in his grasp.
He loves the way he can feel her around his fingers. He loves that he can still make her this slick for him, still turn her on so much that she opens for him with ease. He knows that she is starting to get close from the way she twitches her legs, the way she writhes. He wants her to finish for him.
“Cum for me,” he whispers into her ear, “Cum around my fingers then I’ll give you what you really want.”
Leah melts, the coil in her gut tightening before it releases. She lets out a loud sigh as her climax washes over her, her walls tightening around his digits. Sam just smirks as he removes his fingers from her, not caring that they are covered with her slick.
“Are you ready for me,” he asks gently as he starts to move on top of her.
Leah can only nod, the breath knocked out of her as her mind is clouded by lust. She reaches down, her hands clasping around his cock. Sam shivers at the way her fingernails scrape along his shaft, but he lets her guide him to her entrance as they get comfortable.
She removes her hands to wrap them around his neck as he slides into her, the two of them letting out a long groan at the sensation. His cock twitches inside of her as he only slides in the tip. He slides it out and slowly enters again. He repeats it a few times, each time sliding deeper and deeper until finally she takes him down to the base of his cock.
They take a moment to stay like that, comfortable in each other’s arms, as they adjust to the feeling of being completely surrounded by one another. Leah can feel herself stretch around him, letting out soft, controlled breaths. Sam’s hands grip the sheets tightly beside her head as he leans forward to press kisses to her neck.
He whispers sweet words to her as he slowly slides himself out. She gasps when he slams himself back into her with more force. Sam grunts as he starts to form a rhythm. In and out, in and out. He pulls his cock almost all the way out before slamming into her pussy, groaning each time he hears her gasp.
She quakes with each thrust, her legs wrapping around his waist, desperate to get him as deep as possible. Her nails start to dig into his back, but she does not quite dare to break skin.
“Sam,” she whimpers as he thrusts into her, before repeating his name again. “ Sam! Oh fuck.”
She whines and curses under her breath, her mind foggy. All she can think of is how she feels. How he feels as he slams into her.
“ Harder,” she begs. “Don’t go easy on me.”
Something snaps inside of him as the wolf realizes that he does not have to hold back. Leah is not an imprint, she is another wolf. She can take him at full force and he does not have to worry about hurting her; he loves her, he still worries some, but not enough to stop him.
He lets out a low growl beside her ear as he starts to nip at her, nibbling at every inch of skin he can reach.
“Tell me how much you want it,” Sam orders, but he knows that he still gives her a choice, not forcing her to do so. He wants her to choose to tell him. He wants her to want to tell him.
His thrusts become hard and fast. The bed frame underneath starts to snap away, but neither of them care much. He stops holding back. His thrusts become erratic, and more inhuman, at a force and speed a normal man would not be capable of.
He enjoys the way that she still gasps each time that the base of his cock hits her clit. Her tits start to bounce as her body shakes with the force of his thrusts.
“I want it,” Leah breathes out, “I want you. I love you.”
Sam’s hands go to her breasts, unable to resist the temptation any longer. His fingers start to play with her nipples, squeezing them and gently twisting them to see the way she writhes.
“I love you too,” Sam whispers, kissing her neck. “Now tell me again how much you want me.”
Leah whines. Sam’s hands grasp more roughly at her breasts, squeezing them tightly in his palms as he thrusts into her. He can feel the way her walls start to tighten around him, the way his cock twitches inside of her, desperate to finish.
He starts to groan, his voice starting to turn more desperate, “Please, Leah, tell me what you want.”
“I want you to finish inside of me,” Leah gently puts a hand to his face, even as her body quivers at each thrust. Sam kisses her palm, before letting out a low groan. “I want all of you, Sam.”
Who is he to deny her what she wants after all this time?

Incalescent- Chapter Seven
Pairing: Paul Lahote x Fem!OC
Summary: Em just wants to be loved and have a family for once in her life. But nothing has ever gone right in her life before so why should it now?
Word Count: 5.8k
Warnings: violence, blood, confrontation, angst, vampires with red eyes and terrible fathers
A/N: Listen, I don’t think I’m a good writer so this could be terrible! Let me know what you guys think of it!
There was no arguing when I woke up in Emily and Sam’s living room that I would be staying with them until it was decided that I was safe enough to go home. My nose was healed and I was in fresh clothes. My book bag was on the floor beside the couch which indicated someone went back to the Cullen’s to get it from Edward's car for me. Emily was the only one in the house but I could hear a couple of wolves outside in the woods, keeping watch. The look on Emily’s dared me to argue with her about it. Her lips pressed into a line and creases lined her forehead as she put her foot down and insisted that she had already made up the guest room.
“Paul and I are done letting you have a choice. We will not let you get hurt anymore and I know you think the wolves cannot protect you but they can. I don’t give a damn about your father at this point, hell even I could kill him with my bare hands right now…” Emily ranted on for a half hour before Sam came home and made her go easy on me. I waited, practically holding my breath for Paul to show up for dinner but he never did. Emily, Sam, and I sat quietly at the table eating the delicious food Emily had made.
Sam laid out the detailed plans for monitoring Bella’s house. They were already doing shifts around the reservation to keep their people safe and the added shifts at Bella’s stretched them thinner than ever before. Emily looked worried as she stared up at Sam while he helped her with the dishes. He looked so exhausted that he could pass out at any minute. His light snoring sounded from their shared room not too long later only for him to leave after only two hours of sleep.
That night I lay in bed with the blankets off to the side unable to sleep. Between the nap earlier and everything going on with my dad, Paul, and the Cullen’s, sleep was the furthest thing from my mind. Plus, I could hear Emily’s labored breathing from her room and the angry tossing and turning she had been doing ever since Sam left for his shift at Bella’s. He wouldn’t be back for a whole day because after Bella’s he would be leading a shift around the reservation.
Even though I knew I should still keep my distance from Paul I couldn’t help but take my phone out and text him. I tried to sound casual but I needed to know how he was doing and if anything was happening that I should be made aware of. My brain told me that I didn’t need to see him but my heart was begging for me to ask him to come to see me when he had time. So sent that in a text to him as well. I knew I wouldn’t be able to rest until I saw his face even if he was upset with how I had been lately. Deep down I knew he understood, he always understood whether he liked it or not.
My phone lit up after a few moments causing my heart to skip a beat as I thought about being able to see Paul or at least talk with him for a few minutes. His message was brief, telling me he was fine and there was no news to report. Short and to the point. There was no emotion and that I knew was warranted. A follow-up message came a few minutes later that said ‘if you want to see me I am patrolling the beach for the next hour’. I needed no encouragement as I scrambled to get clothes on and rush out the door.
It was a surprisingly clear night. Millions of stars shined above my head and the half moon was perched in the middle of the sky. My run to the beach was short but I was able to hear the quiet rustle of the trees around me and the little critters that scurried around inside and around them. I didn’t have to have enhanced vampire vision to see Paul in his wolf form walking along the beach. He was so big as a wolf that I would bet astronauts could see him walking along the beach, illuminated in the moonlight, all the way in space.
His head turned toward me as I stopped running to slow down as I reached the sandy part of the beach. The waves were crashing on the shore and against the cliffs in a calming way. If it were safe I would be able to fall asleep right here on the beach with Paul, enjoying the calming effects.
Paul didn’t bother running into the woods to phase back into himself or change, instead, he just did it right in front of me as I got closer to him. Heat rose to my cheeks as I tried to look away in time. Realizing how badly I wanted to look made my cheeks burn worse and I practically rolled my eyes at how silly I felt.
“You look exhausted, Em,” was the first thing out of Paul’s mouth as he walked over to me and cupped my face to make me look at him. I could say the same thing as his eyes were practically ringed like a raccoon.
“Oh you know, just my life being extremely taxing,” my tone joking and hopefully nonchalant. The conversation ended there as Paul scooped me up, a habit that he had picked up lately, one that I wanted to complain about but I knew that I really liked it. He walked us over to the same log we sat against during our first time on this beach together. The memory of our first kiss played in my head, making my heart start to race. If we weren’t so out in the open I could be convinced to recreate it but the fear that my father would see it haunted me.
Paul’s warm body wrapped itself around me as I sat between his legs with his arms caging my head against his bare chest. We sat like this for a while, our breathing eventually matching.
“Are you doing anything Friday night that would prevent you from coming to a bonfire?” Paul asked out of nowhere. I tilted my head so I could look up at his face. He turned to look down at me, the moonlight outlining his perfect jawline and nose curve. My lips parted as I tried to give him an answer but when he looked perfect like he did right now I found thinking of anything else hard. A small smirk made its way onto his lips, making my eyes glue themselves to them.
“I, uh, think I am free. However, I have a project to work on with Bella. But we should be done sometime during the week,” the thought of having to even see Bella again made me upset. No doubt Edward would want to be there and with everything up in the air about my father's involvement with Victoria things were bound to be awkward.
“Bella will be coming as well, the Cullen’s need a day to go and hunt. There will be no conflict for you and I would really like it if you came. They will be telling the tribes legends and there is a lot you need to hear,” the last part of his words came out stern. The look he gave me begged me not to make an excuse not to go. What harm could come from a bonfire anyway?
“Do I get to watch you eat twenty-three hot dogs?” I teased, scrunching my nose up in fake disgust. His chest rumbled with laughter against my cheek.
“If you’re lucky I’ll save you a couple,” the laughter made our faces get incredibly close, lips almost touching, our noses brushing. Paul’s eyes got soft as he looked down at me waiting for me to make a move.
“How about you walk me back to Emily’s and you can come into my room for a little bit? No one will be able to see us in there,” I murmured getting closer, practically begging him to kiss me. The electricity between us right now made it almost impossible for me to think about what my father or his friend might be seeing. If I wasn’t careful I would be full-on making out with Paul in the middle of this beach within seconds. My restraint was wearing thin as Paul let out a groan, his eyes closing.
“You’ll let me kiss you if I come in?” he whispered his lips fully against mine now. I nodded, reluctantly pulling my face away from him. In seconds he had me on my feet, yanking me alongside him back to Emily’s house. Behind the closed door of the guest room that I was currently inhabiting, Paul and I fell into a comfortable place that I hoped remained private.
______________________________________________________________________________
Emily had heard me bring Paul in that night. She didn’t leave out any details the next morning at breakfast with Leah and Sam either. I had to sit across from her as she detailed every giggle, every whispered conversation, and her admiration of the fact that “Paul left to go back to patrol before any real funny business happened.”
“Huh, I only ever left after the funny business,” Same joked, kissing Emily chastely on the cheek. Leah pretended to be sick from her end of the table, while I rolled my eyes and pushed my eggs around my plate. They were all so sure they could protect me from my father that they had no problem openly talking about Paul and me over breakfast.
Paul was probably getting sick of how hot and cold I was being with him. He had texted me the next day about the time we had spent together and I had ignored him. There had been a knot in my stomach ever since waking up that morning, a bad feeling I couldn’t shake. Ignoring Paul made the knot worse but in a different way. The guilt of continuously hurting him was eating at me.
The last few days had gone by slowly, each day of school dragging on longer than the last. Teachers had stopped calling on me. While my answers weren’t rude they weren’t the sort of things they had been looking for. Every day after school I had gone to Bella’s house to work on our project. Edward had decided it was best for him to stay out of the house while I was there but still be within hearing distance.
Last night a storm had blown through unexpectedly and Edward practically broke Bella’s door down thinking I had done it. He walked in to me sipping some hot chocolate Bella had made for us, a peace offering for Edward being so overbearing. Charlie, Bella’s father had grown to love me quickly, sat in the living room mumbling about how Edward couldn’t leave Bella alone with anyone. An irritated look crossed Edward's face as we both picked up what Charlie was saying. I could tell that the two of them still didn’t like me or at the very least did not trust me but Bella was trying her best.
“Everyone seems to be fine having me around except for Bella and your family,” I muttered lowly, too low for Bella to hear but high enough for Edward to hear and clench his jaw.
“They clearly have no instinct for survival,” he hissed back through clenched teeth. Bella was writing something down, none the wiser to our little spat happening. Charlie came into the kitchen to put away his dishes. They sat in the sink untouched as he turned and assessed the room. Edward and I were glaring at each other while Bella continued working, not minding anything.
“Do I sense a little tension?” Charlie asked, looking at me with hope in his eyes. Maybe he was hoping that my distaste for Edward would drive a wedge between him and Bella. Charlie had no idea that Bella disliked me as well, he was completely in the dark about everything. It made me sad to think about it. Since getting to know him, I knew he was a great guy just trying his best at being a dad. Something I had never seen from my father.
“Oh no, my dazzling personality has been hard for Edward to digest,” I joked, making Charlie smirk and Edward's frown deepen. “He’s just jealous that I swooped into town and now everyone seems to be mesmerized by me and not him.”
“You know what,” Charlie began, wiping a tear from his eyes and letting his laughter die down. “You can come around here any time, I like you!”
“I like you too, Charlie!” I beamed back at him. He shook his head at Edward as he left the room, still chuckling to himself.
Edward’s mood never ceased. Bella and I tried to finish the project quickly but our teacher seemed to have it out for her and Edward and had given us the most complicated project. Even with an outline assigned and sections getting done methodically it took hours. There would unfortunately be another night of work to be done.
Tonight was clear, not a single cloud in the sky. The sun was shining brighter than I had ever seen it since moving to Forks. My mood was much the same. My mind was filled with thoughts of seeing Paul at the bonfire tonight. We had kept our distance since the night we spent in the guest room of Emily’s, seeing each other in passing during meals. A part of me wished we hadn’t been keeping our distance. I knew he would love to hear about the little exchange I had had with Edward, I could practically see the smirk popping up on Paul’s face. The same small smile would play at the corner of his mouth if we made eye contact but quickly turn into a look of nervousness.
We had finally finished our project when Edward showed up, choosing to stay inside the safety of his car with windows tinted so no one could see him sparkling. As we packed into the car and started to drive to the treaty line where Jacob was going to pick us up clouds began to filter in. Nothing suggesting a storm but enough to make my happy mood falter.
There had not been a whisper from my father since the night in the woods. I knew better than to think he didn’t know the wolves had come to help me. He probably even knew about me and Paul at the beach. There had been no sign of him for the wolves either. The silence from him was louder than if he had contacted me. It had been eating at me, in the back of my mind, since that night. Each day spent with the pack or with Bella seemed to bring the fear of him to the forefront of my mind. The good mood I had been in earlier with the sun out was completely gone.
“Maybe they’ll cancel the bonfire if it starts to storm, it’s not looking good out there,” Edward murmured to Bella. She hummed in response, staring back at Edward with complete adoration in her eyes.
Did part of me hope the bonfire was canceled? If I did have the powers the Cullen’s seemed to think I had maybe I could force my hand and make the bonfire canceled. The thought brought a pang of sadness to my stomach as I remembered how excited Paul was for me to hear the tribe's history finally. I had already hurt Paul enough over the short time that I had known him and even if I did have the ludicrous powers I would never sabotage tonight.
The exchange at the treaty line was awkward at best. Both Edward and Jacob overdid it with their displays of affection which led me to walk away instead of taking a ride into the reservation with Jacob. He probably wanted to be alone with Bella anyway. Within a few minutes, I found myself at the beach sitting with Leah and her girlfriend. Iris. Paul and the rest of the pack were down the beach kicking around a soccer ball, laughing heartily. With one final kick from Paul, a goal was scored making him shout with happiness and beat at his chest with one hand, gloating.
“Actually, I am named after a goddess,” Iris announced, breaking me out of my thoughts. Whatever she and Leah had been discussing was lost on me. Leah smiled and beamed up at Iris. The sun was peaking out again, making Iris's dark brown skin shine with golden flecks under its rays. If I couldn’t hear the blood pumping through her veins, I might mistake her for a vampire with how sparkly she was. They made a gorgeous couple.
“Makes sense, since you are of ethereal beauty,” Leah murmured against Iris’s lips. They giggled into the kiss, becoming so intimate that I turned my entire body away. They were sitting against the log that Paul and I frequented when we came to the beach. My cheeks flushed when I looked over to where Paul had been, realizing he was making his way over to me. His eyes were fixed on my face, a small smirk on his lips.
“I think that log has magical powers that make people want to kiss,” he commented loudly as if he had read my mind. Leah and Iris laughed from behind me as I had to avert my eyes from Paul. I pretended to admire the sunset as he plopped himself next to me.
“Do you agree, Em?” Leah asked in a taunting tone. Paul nudged me with his arm and wagged his eyebrows when I looked back at him.
“Mmm, I don’t think so. I’ve never kissed anyone worthwhile on the log,” I joked shrugging my shoulders and making myself look sad. Paul scoffed at my answer and dramatically pouted his bottom lip while Leah let out a bark of a laugh. I couldn’t help the giggle that erupted from my mouth, it bubbled up even through my hand that I slapped over my lips to try and stifle it.
“You’ll be sorry later when you’re practically begging me to kiss you and I won’t,” Paul whispered in my ear, having gotten closer to me when I was distracted with trying to stop laughing. I stared up at him, trying to come back with a remark that would wipe the smug look off his face but the sun was hitting him just right. A battle raged in my brain as I tried to decide whether I liked him better in the sun or the moonlight. Both had their advantages.
While Paul and I stared at each other, Sam called Leah and Iris over to play soccer with them since Paul had ditched. There were quiet words exchanged about Paul and I being distracted but neither of us acknowledged them. Eventually, I looked away and leaned into Paul, and watched the sunset. Beautiful golden rays blazed across the water in front of us. The waves usually crashed harder on the beach but their current momentum was slow and calming.
“You gonna fall asleep on me, Princess?” Paul asked quietly, bringing a hand up to my chin to tilt my head back to him. I shrugged slowly, my eyes feeling heavy. The truth was, I had been about to fall asleep but the appearance of my favorite nickname woke me up.
“Mmm, your heart sped up. Do you like being called Princess, Princess?” he asked, leaning down so his lips were almost touching mine. His breath fanned over my face making my lips twitch, wanting to lean forward and breach the small space left between us.
“Maybe,” I whispered to him, almost losing the last shred of resolve I had in me. His eyes hardened as he looked at me, waiting for me to make the move. When I didn’t move he licked his lips. We were still so close that his tongue brushed against my bottom lip, the lip that was currently trembling with exertion as it took everything in me to not lean forward.
“You’re so fucking frustrating sometimes,” his voice was different than it had been before. What was once a whisper had turned into something deeper, huskier. He sounded like he had just woken up and ran a marathon at the same time. His chest was heaving against my back, the bare skin giving off waves of heat that I could feel through my hoodie and shirt.
“You’re the one teasing me out in the open where anyone could see,” his mood immediately changed with my words but he didn’t move away. Instead, he cupped my face and smashed his lips against mine. The fire that had lit up his eyes was now not a thought in my mind. His arms maneuvered me to where we were now chest to chest with him leaning over me as I braced my back against the log.
“I don’t give a damn who sees. If anyone wants to try and stop it, I dare them,” his brief speech was over quickly and he was back to kissing me. This time his lips were softer against mine, more loving. Both of his hands were gently cupping my face, thumbs caressing my cheeks. My entire body felt hot, my chest now heaving almost worse than Paul's had been before the kiss. Everything felt too good to be real.
“So Princess, do you like name or what,” Paul chuckled from behind me. I blinked rapidly trying to figure out how he got back into the position we had been in before kissing. My cheeks burned as I realized I had fantasized about the whole thing. Paul’s chest rumbled behind me. “I’m going to take your red face and fast heartbeat as a yes, Princess.”
“Yeah, I like it,” I mumbled back, letting him believe that that was why my face was red and my heart was practically bursting from my chest. The sun had almost completely set during my little daydream and everyone was packing up from the beach, heading to wherever the bonfire was going to take place.
“We should get going, I don’t want to miss the food,” my feet never even had the chance to hit the ground as Paul swung me up into his arms and began carrying me through the woods toward wherever the bonfire was happening.
This was something I had never had the privilege of experiencing. Everyone was gathered around a huge fire, laughing, and sharing hoards of food. Paul ended up only eating half the amount of hot dogs he had boasted about, a nervous look on his face. At first, he had said his stomach didn’t feel right but between me and the entire pack yelling at him to eat, me in a softer voice than everyone, he ate a few hot dogs and some sides.
“Why do you look so worried?” I asked thickly, through a bite of my second hot dog. He shrugged and told me not to worry. Leah was just now making her way back from dropping her girlfriend off, clearly, she was not in the know of the supernatural yet. Bella and Jacob had arrived just before her, getting heckled by Seth who followed him around like a lost puppy.
Despite the fire raging in front of me, a chill ran through my body. Paul noticed and went from sitting in front of me to sitting under me with his arms wrapped around my torso. Something hung in the air between us that made my nerves light up. Paul never seemed to worry about everything. He was always the most secure person in the room. Everything he said or did was with finality and sureness.
“Are you sure you’re okay?” I asked again, quietly. We stared into each other's eyes for a minute before he kissed the tip of my nose and smiled at me.
“More than okay, Princess,” he assured me. A silence ran through the group and I noticed a man in a wheelchair making his way toward the head of the circle, next to Sam. Emily sat with them a pad of paper and pen in hand like she was ready to take notes on what we were about to hear. Paul sat up stiffer and his arms tightened around my waist.
“There has always been magic in blood,” the man in the wheelchair began. He went into great detail about the first Spirit Warrior, Taha Aki, in their tribe. It was fascinating to hear their history with so much attention to detail. To my knowledge, there was no history for vampires like there was for wolves.
You could tell in the way this man spoke that although he himself was not able to transform into a wolf, he held great pride for his tribe and the wolves among it. He talked in a deep voice that captivated me as he described how his people went from Spirit Warriors to shapeshifters and how this magic helped them keep their tribe safe from the Cold Ones. This was the most history I had heard about vampires and even that was scarce.
The story of the Cold Ones made me feel sick. Their people were innocent when the vampire couple came to their land and killed their women and Taha Aki’s only son. This made me understand the need for a treaty in place with the Cullen’s and the distaste some of the pack held for me when I first arrived. Hearing that they were fully capable of killing vampires in their wolf forms made me feel better as well.
“Told you,” Paul whispered, mockingly in my ear as we listened to the description of the wolves tearing apart the vampires with their sharp teeth. Taha Aki’s third and true wife helped as well, sacrificing herself to distract the female vampire when she came for revenge of her mate. The use of the term ‘true wife’ made me wonder what made her, his third wife, finally be the one to be true.
“What does it mean when they say the third wife is the true wife?” A girl spoke up across the fire, taking the question directly from my brain. She was sitting next to Jared, who looked down at her with so much love pouring out of his look that I felt embarrassed looking at them.
“The magic in our blood not only turns us into fierce wolf warriors but sometimes also shows us who our true partners are. We call it imprinting or finding our soulmates,” the man explained. I sucked in a breath as he described what it was. Paul took one hand from around my waist and began to rub lightly on my back. The man began to speak again, “I have never experienced this magic myself but I have heard it described. Once the magic in the blood is activated and you see her for the first time it is as if gravity does not exist anymore and your soulmate is the one holding you to this earth.”
“The connection is immediate, impossible to withstand. The second you lay eyes on your soulmate it is a relief and painful when you are not around them. Emily has told me it feels the same for her, though not as intense as it has been for me,” Sam explained further. Emily went to squeeze his hand as they smiled, lovingly at each other. The girl who asked the question looked back at Jared and they too shared the same look that Emily and Sam did.
Was this the reason Paul was nervous? I could feel his eyes on me, practically burning a hole into the back of my head so I turned and looked at him. He was staring at me, eyes apologetic. I didn’t know where to begin so I settled for chewing on my bottom lip as we looked at each other. The hand that was rubbing my back came to cup my chin, thumb pulling my lip from between my teeth.
“Do you understand now?” Paul asked me in a hushed tone. This was not something I wanted to discuss with an audience that had hearing just as good, if not better, than my own enhanced hearing. I nodded at him, tears beginning to prick the surface of my eyes. Was it odd for me to cry right now? The back of Paul’s pointer finger was gently wiping the tears from my eyes before I could think too much of it.
As the information sank in, I laid my head in the crook of Paul’s neck. He stayed silent, breathing even, as he stroked my hair to try and comfort me. The stories were over and everyone went back to chatting or laughing hysterically, goofing around the fire. A few people left, including Jacob and Bella, a reason was said but I wasn’t paying attention.
My mind was conjuring up images of the future and what it could look like. I was an unaging, vampire. The reality was I was going to live forever but how long did Paul have? This was something that had been in the back of my mind since meeting him and the rest of my friends. One day they would all be gone and if Paul was really my soulmate, like the magic in his blood said, then I would never find happiness after him.
“How about we get out of here?” Paul suggested, giving a small kiss to the top of my head. “My dad is out of town for the weekend with some friends if you wanted to crash at my place. We have the stuff to discuss, I think it would be best in private.”
“Yeah, that sounds good to me,” I replied to him, not daring to look up at him. The thought of him dying and me living on was gutting me as we spoke. The thought gnawed at my insides and we walked hand-in-hand to his house. The night air was fresh as I continuously inhaled deeply trying to ground myself. The hand that Paul held began to clam up, to the point where I knew that he knew I wasn’t doing well.
“Em,” his voice startled me. He sounded worried from beside me and that’s when I realized the wind had picked up around us. The once starry night was now pitch black and foreboding. Thunder crashed in the distance, the sky illuminating periodically with lightning.
I couldn’t feel Paul’s hand in mine anymore. The dark sky seemed to bleed into every place I tried to look. Panic coursed through me as I tried to look around for Paul. Where was he? He had just been standing next to me, trees surrounding us. Now I stood in pitch black. The only reprieve from the dark was bolts of lightning shooting across the sky, getting closer to me.
“EM!” Paul shouted directly into my face. He sounded so scared and the thought that I was scaring him made me blink, trying to get my vision back. After a second I felt his hands gripping my shoulders, shaking me. Blink. Blink. Blink. His face was suddenly there in front of mine.
“Paul,” my voice barely came out, as I tried and begged my mind to cooperate with me.
“Em, I need you to calm down. Whatever it is, I will help you. I will fix it,” he pleaded with me. His eyes darted to the side, lighting striking only a couple of feet away from us. “Please, Em, I think you’re making the storm happen. It’s getting closer to us. Please, try and take a breath.”
“The lightning?” that didn’t make sense to me. Nothing was making sense. Goosebumps were erupting all over my body. A cold sweat beading on my forehead and the back of my neck. Paul was going to die. My friends were all going to die. Whether it be at the hands of my father or the hands of old age. My mind couldn’t focus on anything else.
“Princess, please,” Paul pleaded again but it was useless. My vision went black as I felt my body start to give way and slump to the ground.
______________________________________________________________________________
“You agree with us then?” Edward hissed from somewhere near me. I could barely hear them, my eyes refusing to open. My body felt drained but I was warm despite having been caught in a storm with Paul.
“I never wanted to press it with her because I don’t know how vampire abilities work or how she’s only half of one…” Paul began, sounding lost. His voice was laced with worry, each word coming out more hoarse than the last.
“She’s not a threat, Edward,” Carlisle was here too. I couldn’t say where that was but I never imagined Paul interacting with them. Something bad must have happened to get them talking. My heart started pounding in my chest as my father popped into my mind. It was easy to assume that he could be the reason I was so worn down I couldn’t even open my eyes and the reason Paul was interacting with vampires when he hates them.
“Her werewolf boyfriend just told us he thinks she can control the weather, including lightning and you’re telling me she’s NOT a threat?” Edward sounded almost hysterical as he spoke. He was pacing around the room, the light thud of his footsteps sounding loudly in my ears.
“I don’t think she knows she has the powers. From what Paul has told us about her dad and that situation it confirms when she told us, that she knows the bare minimum about this life,” Carlisle’s voice was quiet, reassuring, and clipped at the end, making it clear to Edward how he felt about this.
“We’re supposed to trust a wolf?” Edward scoffed, his tone made me want to smack him across the room but my body still was not cooperating with my brain.
Carlisle sighed, “you can read his thoughts, so you know what he’s saying is the truth. You also know about how serious an imprint bond is which means she would have told him everything she knows, whether she intended to or not.”
“Of course,” Edward sighed, defeated. His footsteps grew fainter with each this of his feet on the ground. Carlisle began to speak again, something about having a full vampire power but being only half a vampire taking more energy out of me, but I didn’t hear the specifics as I drifted off to sleep, again.

~It had been both surprising and unsurprising when Leah imprinted on a woman.
~Surprising because they didn’t realize that female wolves could imprint(even though they didn’t really have any knowledge in the female wolf thing anyhow)
~It’s unsurprising however because they had all imprinted on women and had never heard of a wolf imprinting on a guy before.
~She imprinted on you after you had gotten done telling off a couple guys for being inappropriate with a group of high school girls at the diner you worked at.
~You had kicked the guys out, made sure the girls were okay then turned around to tell her she could sit where she likes when you made eye contact and your life completely changed for the better.
~Leah had been ecstatic to finally have an imprint.
~She does hesitate to tell you that she's a werewolf and that vampires exist.
~She’s terrified of something happening to you if she involves you in her life.
~But when she does tell you you are completely understanding why she hesitated.
~You never give her any shit or grief or anything about her having to stay out late and patrol.
~You actually make sure to schedule meetings in good spots while she’s patrolling so you can give her dinner or lunch or sometimes breakfast.
~She is extremely reluctant to bring you around the guys, other than Seth of course.
~You and her younger brother get along like two peas in a pod.
~It makes Leah extremely happy to have someone care for Seth as deeply as she does.
~You always make sure he is fed as well and that he isn’t overworked with patrols.
~When she does bring you around the guys, you are tough as nails.
~They try to make fun of Leah for the fact she was so pouty after Sam left her for her cousin. You fly right off the handle.
~Seth and Leah have had to hold you back from physically attacking Paul and Jared for their words.
~You also absolutely obliterated Sam and Emily one night, giving them a really long lecture about how much they truly hurt her and they apologized to her profusely.
~She had never had anyone in her life stick up for her the way you did.
~The love she held for you showed in every look your way, or the sparkle in her eyes when your name was mentioned.
~She had always hoped to have the heartache of Sam and Emily patched up and you did just the trick.
~You were unwaveringly patient with her even if you were her imprint she was still scared of another heartbreak.
~You guys moved in with each other pretty quickly. Finding a small two bedroom apartment.
~The thought of not living together made you both sick so it made the most sense.
~Though separate bedrooms quickly turn into one.
~She enjoyed having you wrapped up in her arms too much while she slept.
~You enjoyed being wrapped up in her scent while she was gone too much to stay away from her bed.
~You also were one of the only things that soothed her nightmares away.
~Whether they be of her fathers death, the eclipse battle or what could have happened in the breaking dawn confrontation.
~You reassure her everyday that you will never love anyone the way you love her.
~You reassure her in the way you kiss her, slowly and passionately letting all unspoken words slip between your lips between her own.
~You reassure her with the way you start a shower for her when you hear her slip through the front door.
~You reassure her with the way you always have her favorite snacks stocked in your pantry, your bag and your car.
~You reassure her in the way you stop by and talk to Sue on a daily basis.
~She reassures you of her love with the way she throws your towel in the dryer so it’ll be nice and warm after your shower.
~She reassures you in the way that she hums your favorite songs while she’s doing chores around the apartment.
~She reassures you with the way she takes you to some of her favorite spots she’s found during patrols.
~She reassures you with her intimacy and vulnerability.
~She loves cuddling with you, she’s always the big spoon, she loves the way you hold her hand and wrap it around your middle or lay it on your chest right over your heart.
~Or she likes when you lay your head on her chest above her heart and tangle your legs within hers.
~She likes when you braid her hair for her. She also enjoys braiding yours in return.
~She's obsessed with the way you always seem cold without her. You’ll be wrapped up in 4 blankets, have on fleece pants and a hoodie with fuzzy socks and still somehow be freezing but then she wraps you up in her arms and you are perfectly content.
~When you guys have sex it’s pretty much always soft. She is terrified of going overboard and hurting you.
~However if you liked it a little rough she would indulge you a little.
~She keeps her thoughts of you very very private. She does not want the guys to see you in an inappropriate way.
~Overall this woman loves and worships you undeniably.
~I am desperate to be her imprint.
A/N: I am a complete sucker for this gorgeous woman.

❥ Seth Clearwater had always been a romantic at heart.
❥ When he first imprinted on you, he spent hours fantasizing about important relationship milestones such as moving in together, getting married and starting your own family.
❥ He desperately wanted all of these.
❥ If it was up to Seth, the two of you would get married right after your relationship became official.
❥ But you wanted to take the relationship one step at a time and he respected that.
❥ Fast forward to your two-year anniversary, when Seth decided that it was finally time to make you Mrs Clearwater.
❥ Seth suggested celebrating your anniversary at your favourite restaurant in Port Angeles.
❥ After a delicious meal Seth remarked that it was time for a dessert.
❥ The waiter came minutes later with a chocolate cake and placed it right in the middle of the table.
❥ To your surprise the cake had a large ''Will you marry me?'' sign in white frosting.
❥ When you looked over at Seth, he was already kneeling down holding a small box with a beautiful diamond ring.
"Yes" you replied instantly and hugged him with tears in your eyes.
❥ Everyone was ecstatic when you announced it.
❥ Especially the pack.
❥ Preparations for the wedding started right after the announcement.
❥ You and Seth had agreed on a small ceremony at the beach and a barbeque afterwards for your family and close friends.
❥ The pack (minus Leah) set up the whole event and made sure that every little detail was perfect for the big day.
❥ They had help by the vampires of course as most of the Cullens had taken a liking to Seth.
❥ With the boys working on the wedding venue, you and the girls set out to send the invitations and select the dress.
❥ Selecting the right dress was easier said than done.
❥ Leah and Alice had completely different opinions on the matter.
❥ Alice advised you to go for something fancy.
❥ And Leah thought that a boho design would be more appropriate.
❥ But the final word on the matter was yours to make.
❥ So, after many dress fittings you finally found the one.
❥ The weeks passed and the big day finally came.
❥ Seth couldn't take his eyes off you as you walked down the aisle.
❥ Looking breathtaking in your white dress.
❥ Vows were exchanged and with a tender kiss you and Seth became husband and wife.
❥ At the after-wedding barbeque you had the time of your life dancing with your husband and close friends.
❥ When it was time to leave for the honeymoon, Carlisle and Esme surprised both you and Seth by giving you plane tickets for Rio de Janeiro and full access to Isle Esme.
❥ Seth and you were beyond grateful for the gift.
❥ The flight to Rio de Janeiro and boat ride to Isle Esme filled you with excitement about what was to come.
❥ Upon arriving on the house that would be your home for the next month, Seth gently picked you up and carried you inside.
❥ You giggled at the gesture and thanked him with a kiss when he placed you down.
"Shall we take a bath, Mrs Clearwater?" he asked.
"Of course" you replied with a wink.
❥ The two of you headed to the bathroom .
❥ While Seth filled the bathtub, you slowly removed your dress and lingerie.
❥ Without breaking eye contact with him.
❥ Seth felt a lump in his throat as he stared at your curves.
❥ Feeling hornier as each minute passed.
❥ You approached Seth and helped him remove his clothing.
❥ Once the bathtub was ready, you and Seth proceeded to enter.
❥ Seth rubbed your back, helping your muscles relax.
❥ You returned the favour by lovingly massaging his scalp.
❥ What started as a relaxing and intimate moment between a newlywed couple quickly grew into a passionate make out session.
❥ Seth couldn't stop kissing your lips as his hands travelled on your body, before settling on your thighs.
❥ You straddled his hips and deepened the kiss.
❥ His wolf side took over and he picked you up, heading out of the bathtub in a hurry and laying you onto the canopied bed.
❥ Not caring for the mess your wet and shampooed bodies left on the sheets.
❥ Seth left steamy kisses on your neck and breasts.
❥ He then moved to your inner thighs and eventually found the delicate spot between your legs.
❥ Soft moans escaped your lips as his kisses set your body on fire.
"I'm close" you whispered while tightly clutching his black hair.
❥ Seth knew exactly what you wanted and soon the pleasurable feeling spread through your whole body.
❥ He then kissed you hard on the lips and awaited for your consent to take things further.
❥ You nodded impatiently.
❥ Seth entered you gently at first and then picked up his speed.
❥ Pounding relentlessly into you.
❥ Stretching your tight walls with each thrust.
❥ Seth couldn't get enough of this.
❥ He felt divine when inside you.
❥ It was a mutual feeling...
❥ Things got so heated that he ended up using his wolfish strength a little too much.
❥ Resulting in the both of you landing on the floor.
❥ Bye bye bed...
❥ You and Seth laughed it off and continued your erotic dance without interruption.
❥ Having your climaxes simultaneously on the floor. covered with feathers from the mattress.
❥ After getting a proper bath and tidying up the mess in the bedroom, you layed in Seth's arms and enjoyed how blishful it was.
The honeymoon had just started and it was going to be a memorable one...

Speak - Chapter 3
Tumblr media
Word Count: 3K
Story Description: Bella Swan was a disaster when Edward had left. Deciding she needed a little help, Charlie Swan receives with open arms his younger daughter (Y/N) Swan. She helps Bella during her depression and becomes inseparable from her long-lost friend Jacob. What she didn’t expect was falling for a hotheaded short-tempered silver wolf.
*DISCLAIMER* I do not own in any way Twilight, all credits of the pre-established characters, script, and storyline belong to Stephanie Meyer and Summit Entertainment. The only thing I own is Swan Reader insert, any upcoming characters, and her storyline, as well as her effects in the others’ storyline.
Chapter: 3/?
A/N: oh oh, Paul seems to be sneaking into (Y/N)'s thoughts... Also changed up the story to third person POV, cause I couldn't continue in first. 😅
If you enjoy my writing I’ll also be posting them in AO3 and Wattpad along with other stories. You can request at any time any story or one-shot you desire. Hope you enjoy, and all constructive criticism is encouraged.

Chapter 3
For the past couple of days, a smile had been plastered on (Y/N)’s face. The nightly phone calls with Jake had started growing longer, even though they didn’t have much more to talk about. But his voice was a comforting embrace during Bella’s tortured screams. As time passed, the girl just seemed to get worse.
As Christmas day finally approached, Charlie and (Y/N) thought she’d be happier. At least just a bit better. It had always been a cheery holiday regardless of their familial situation. Renée made sure that the girls woke up to presents under the tree and spare cookies “Santa” had left behind. Even if Bella never said she liked the theatrics of it all, (Y/N) could tell she enjoyed the thought that went into it. Those were moments the younger Swan was sure would overshadow whatever black cloud that was hanging over her.
Granted, she had no way of knowing how deeply in love Bella was with this Edward character. In less than a year, he was able to cause more damage than their parent’s separation had ever been able to, and she had been devastated – for a bit.
“Hey, Bells,” (Y/N) tiptoed into her room. Much like every other day, she sat on her office chair staring into the endlessness of the woods behind our house. “I was gonna wrap up some presents for tomorrow. Mind if I do it in here for a bit of company?”
A grunt of agreement.
(Y/N) rolled her eyes as she placed everything on the bed, unloading the unnecessary amount of presents in her arms. “You know, Uncle Billy invited us over to spend Christmas with him and Jake. Dad is gonna try to put on a barbecue in this snow,” she chuckled, and she could have sworn she had heard the skin on her cheeks creak up into a smile. “I still remember when we were little, and he tried so hard to light the barbecue during a blizzard. And the wind just kept blowing the flame off. He was so pissed and packed the steaks away.
But, yeah, I’ve never understood why they like meat so much. I mean we’re in freezing weather and he still wants to do a cookout.”
“Just be thankful there’s something he can cook,” she croaked out. (Y/N) almost leaped off the bed when she heard the sound. But treating her like a wild animal was the best route – no sudden sounds or movements. “And that you eat meat.”
“Right, the vegetarian thing. I mean, I can make you anything, so you don’t feel left out.” (Y/N) softly prodded around the situation, maybe she could catch her sister in a moment where she’d finally agree to leave her bedroom. “I’m sure everyone would be more than delighted if you were there.”
“I’m not going, (Y/N),” Bella whispered. Her shoulders slumped once more and all the liveliness that (Y/N) could have sworn had returned to her body, dissipated in a breath.
“Come on, Bella,” she complained. “You need to leave the house for another place other than school and the Newton’s store. You were broken up with, you’re not dead.”
Bella’s body morphed back into the statue-like position she rested in most of her days. Her sights were once again frozen on the window, searching for something – someone – that simply was not there. (Y/N) had joked to their dad that they should throw the chair away while she was at school, but as each day passed it seemed like more of a possibility.
“Fine, Bells,” she sighed and gathered all her things. “You know, this guy must have been heaven on earth, cause no one’s worth this much pain.”
It’s difficult to pull someone from a hole they created for themselves. Bella was stuck deep in this hole, but she was making no effort to get out of it, regardless of how many people were trying to help her. (Y/N) found it almost baffling how many people cared for her sister, but she only cared for the one guy that left her to rot.
The girl finished wrapping the rest of the presents in her room before starting a quick dinner for her father and herself, knowing Bella would most likely not eat anything, like every other night. (Y/N) knew her irritation was visible. She loved her sister, but her behavior was starting to become unbearable. A couple of more months of this and she was sure she’d go insane. It had been four months and, as time passed, she seemed to be getting worse rather than better. It was exhausting.
After finishing up a pot of spaghetti and meat sauce, (Y/N) left a plate served inside the microwave and a note on the fridge for her dad. She was far too exhausted to clean up and left all the dirty dishes in the sink. Dad could clean it, she thought. Instead, she went up the stairs and plopped onto her bed, allowing the warm comforter and the pillow to pull her into a deep sleep.
But before she could truly succumb to slumber, her phone rang. Jacob’s name lit up the screen, and under the words, “come outside” were displayed. Instantly, a smile spread across the girl’s face. If there was anyone that could put her out of my sour mood, it would be him.
Running out the door, she put on her boots and wrapped a jacket around her body. She was met with the visual of Jacob in his truck wearing a devilish grin on his face. He reached over and opened the passenger door for (Y/N) and beaconed her inside. Trying to avoid spending more time in the cold she jumped into the truck, sighing contentedly as warmth engulfed her.
“Hey,” he smiled. Jacob leaned over the center console, placing one hand on her cheek and pulling her toward him before placing a kiss on her lips. “Couldn’t wait until tomorrow to see you.”
“I noticed,” she chuckled shyly. There was no reason for her to still be nervous around him, but she simply couldn’t help the butterflies in her stomach. What she didn’t know at the time was that the butterflies were a warning. “I’m glad you couldn’t wait.”
“Were you able to convince Bella to come?”
“I tried,” she sighed. “There’s just no getting through to her right now.”
“Man, that Cullen bastard really did a number on her.” She could see the anger coming from Jacob. It was like a burning aura that surrounded him. His teeth were gritted, and his hands had closed into a tight fist. “Where does he get off abandoning her like that? If I were him, I would have never let her go. She doesn’t deserve that.”
That had stung. (Y/N) knew he was probably not over his silly crush on Bella, but to mention being with her while being with (Y/N), hurt. But she knew she couldn’t bring that up without causing a fight. “Can we please not talk about that,” the girl said instead. “I feel like my life has become Bella Swan’s Days of our Lives.”
“Yeah, sorry,” he laughed awkwardly. “You know, something weird happened the other day.”
“What happened?”
“You remember that guy that was staring at you at the bonfire a couple of days ago?”
“Paul something?”
“Lahote, yeah,” he corrected. “He came over and told me I should stay away from you. Did something happen there?”
He was... jealous? The question came out of nowhere. (Y/N) thought she had been clear that she had never met him before seeing him that night, and that she wanted nothing to do with him. Although ever since that night she could not get his addictive stare out of her head. When she closed her eyes at night, even if she started by thinking of Jake, her brain couldn’t help but dissolve into his piercing brown gaze. Her head would not shake the image of the boy from it.
“Jake, I already told you that you have nothing to worry about there,” she smiled at him in an attempt to subdue his anger. “I don’t know who this Paul guy thinks he is, but I am not interested in him in the slightest.”
“It’s just, the gall this guy has to think he has some kind of claim over you. As if he doesn’t know who you are to me.”
“What am I to you exactly?” she teased. They had yet to have any conversation about where this relationship was headed. It had been such a short amount of time, but they had known each other for a lifetime. "I would like to know."
“Well, I’m hoping you’d like to be my girlfriend,” he grinned, any sign of anger disappearing. “What do you say?”
“I don’t know,” (Y/N) giggled coyly. “Maybe I should keep my options open just in case Paul decides to ask me out. Wouldn’t want to close out the market.”
“You’re funny.”
He leaned in once more for a kiss, but this one was different. Jake scooched closer to (Y/N), doing his best to deepen it. She ran her fingers through his long hair as his hands rested on the sides of her face. This was desperate and passionate, just the thing to push Paul Lahote out of her mind.
As the windows started fogging and their hands started traveling south, a knock on the window startled the teenagers apart.
“I really hope that’s not you, Jacob Black, with my daughter,”  Charlie spoke through the fogged-up window, flashlight in hand.
Jake flashed her an apologetic smile before rolling down the window on his side. "Hey, sheriff. How’s your night been?”
“Well, it was a very uneventful one at first,” he grumbled. “Until I came home, and I saw your truck with misty windows and my daughter in the passenger seat. Hi, (Y/N).”
“He~ey, dad.” She gave him a small wave and covered her reddened face with her hands. “We were just talking.”
“Last time I checked talking doesn’t fog up windows, honey,” her father countered. “Let’s go, (Y/N). Jacob, get home.”
She jumped out of the truck after squeezing Jake’s hand as reassurance and joined her father’s side. Promptly, he pushed her behind him, acting as a barrier between Jacob and the girl.
“We’ll see you tomorrow, Jacob.”
“Alright, Mr. Swan,” he responded. She could tell he was swallowing the laughter that had bubbled in his throat and was threatening to spill. “Bye, (Y/N).”
“See you, Jake.”
“Get in the house, (Y/N).”
Her father’s reaction was perplexing. He’d always liked Jake. He even joked when they were little that they would make a cute couple. Now, he was acting as if he’d caught her with a dangerous stranger. She wondered if he’d reacted this way when Bella first brought Edward around.
“What was that spectacle outside, (Y/N)?” Charlie finally broke the silence, fuming. “What exactly did you think you were doing?”
“Um, I was kissing my boyfriend,” she responded matter-of-factly. “I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that.”
“Boyfriend? Since when is Jacob Black your boyfriend?”
“As of five minutes ago, roughly?” She was trying to liven the mood adding a tone of comedy, but she could tell her father was having none of it. “I don’t get why you’re so upset, dad. You’ve always loved Jake.”
“I’ve already got one heartbroken daughter,” he sighed. Charlie rubbed his temples, hiding the fear in his face. “I don’t know what I would do if both of you were. Jake’s a good kid but I could never forgive him if he hurt you, honey.”
“Let’s not get ahead of this, dad,” she chuckled dryly. (Y/N) had faith in her relationship, but she couldn’t help the doubt that crept into her head when her dad mentioned Jake breaking her heart. “We literally just became official. You’re ending us before we’ve even started. One thing I can tell you is that I won’t be like Bella.”
“Sweetheart, you don’t know that. I just don’t want to see you in the same pain your sister is going through.”
“Dad, I understand you’re worried,” she smiled at her father. To calm him, (Y/N) grabbed his calloused hands and gave them a squeeze. “But I am not Bella, and Jacob is not Edward. Have a little faith in me, yeah?”
“I can’t help it, (Y/N),” Charlie said. “It kills me to see Bella like this. I don’t want you to go through that.”
“I know, and I promise you that you will never have to go through this again with me,” she said. “Now, why don’t you go eat and go to bed? We have a long day tomorrow.”
“Alright, darling,” he responded defeated. “Good night.”
“Good night, dad.”
(Y/N) disappeared up the stairs, passing by her sister’s room. She mumbled a good night to her stoic sister before finally getting into her bed to hopefully sleep this time. She wanted to rest. Yet, when she closed her eyes the same ones that had been haunting her dreams stared back.
Something about him called to her. She only knew his name and still, he took possession of her thoughts. Deep inside her, something begged her to get closer to him. There was no reason for him to be in her head, much less in her dreams.
She was standing in a clearing, looking over a still river. Her body was clothed in a white flowing dress and her feet were bare. (Y/N) turned, taking in the scenery and breathing the fresh air. The sun felt warm against her skin, beckoning a smile to her face.
“You look beautiful, darling,” a voice spoke. “Absolutely radiant.”
“Thank you, Paul. And you look as handsome as ever,” she giggled. “Come here.”
He walked slowly to her, a playful grin propped on his face. His arms circled her waist and wrapped her in a tight hug, lifting her from the ground and spinning her around. As he slid her back to the ground, he placed a hand on her cheek, his thumb running through her cheek. (Y/N) closed her eyes and enjoyed the touch, his warmth feeling better than the one the sun provided.
She felt different with him. Unlike with Jake, Paul didn’t make her feel butterflies. He made her feel calm, at peace. There was a homely feeling to being in his arms. Like she had found the right place to be in. She fit perfectly between them like she was made to be there.
(Y/N) allowed him to pull her toward the water, sinking into the comfortable river. She gave him a smile and shrieked happily as the coldness seeped through her bones. Her white dress quickly soaked and his denim shorts darkened.
“This water is freezing, Paul,” she whispered to him. He kept her close, his arms wrapped around her. “Don’t you dare let go.”
“I would never, beautiful,” he grinned. (Y/N) could feel his breath tickling her face, cooling the droplets of water that had splashed on it “I’ve got you now, and I’m never planning on letting you go.”
“Is that a threat?” she joked, copying the smile on his face.
“It’s a promise, darling,” Paul said. “It’s a promise.”
He closed the space between them and pressed their lips together. (Y/N) felt sparks running through her body, the feeling of belonging washing over her. This is where she was meant to be. He was who she was meant to be with.
“I love you, (Y/N).”
“I love you more, Paul.”
(Y/N) woke up with a startle, her breathing uneven and heavy. Her whole body was overheated. Her blanket felt too warm. She didn’t understand what that dream meant. More importantly, why it felt so real. She knew she loved Jake, and she didn’t even know Paul. What pull did he have on her that she kept dreaming of him?
She got up from her bed, going downstairs to get a cup of water. She was startled when she found her sister staring at the sink, the faucet running, and an overfilled glass under it. (Y/N) ran to the sink, turning off the water and putting a rag on her sister’s hand to soak up the water that had run down her arm.
“What’re you doing, Bells?” (Y/N) muttered.
“S-sorry,” Bella stammered finally realizing what she had done. “I didn’t realize.”
“It’s okay,” she sighed. “Why don’t you sit and drink that water? Have you had anything to eat? I can make you a quick sandwich.”
“Uh, sure,” the girl breathed out. “I, uh, overheard you and Charlie.”
“Oh?”
“You two are together?” Bella questioned. (Y/N) was surprised that her sister seemed interested in her life. Rarely was the time she inquired in (Y/N)’s life. “I didn’t know you liked him.”
“You’ve never asked,” she chuckled dryly. “But we’ve just been talking these past few days. Most we’ve done is kiss a few times. Tonight, he asked me to be his girlfriend.”
“Well, that’s nice.” (Y/N) placed a cheese sandwich before her, and Bella started picking at it and placing small bites into her mouth. “I always thought… never mind.”
“What, Bells? What did you always think?” She knew what her sister was thinking. Bella had always known Jake liked him. If she didn’t, she at least had to have an inkling. “That he liked you?”
“I thought so…”
“Well, maybe he did,” she sighed. “But that’s neither here nor there. He’s with me now, and that’s that.”
(Y/N) got up from the dinner table, leaving Bella by herself. She had no idea where that conversation was going, and she didn’t want to see where it would go. Her whole life she’d been second to Bella. To their parents, their friends – though, they wouldn’t notice – to Jake. This was the first time she felt she was being put first, and Bella wasn’t going to take it from her. Not this time. As much as she loved her sister, it was time to put herself first.

PREFACE
You are the kindest thing
that ever happened to me,
even if that is not how our tale is told.
When everyone else told me I was
destined to be a forgotten nymph
that nurtured flowers and turn meadows gold,
you saw that the ichor that resides in me
demanded its own throne.
You showed me
how a love like ours can turn
even the darkest, coldest realm
into the happiest of homes.
-  Nikita Gill
INTRODUCTION
When I thought about my future, I was sure that I had the rest of my life vaguely planned out.
I would graduate from Forks High School in three years, then go to college in Seattle, or maybe Tacoma or Spokane — far enough away from Forks that I could truly start my own life but close enough to visit Charlie every weekend so he wouldn’t be lonely. I would finish my degree — which would probably be something in the sciences or maybe the arts — then I would start my career in my chosen field.
I would eventually find someone that I would want to spend the rest of my life with, someone I loved and who loved me just as much. We would probably get married at some point and maybe even have a kid or two down the road. I would come back to Forks every so often to visit my father with my family. It was always so easy to envision myself and my father and my family sitting in the living room, laughing and eating and watching some sports game on the TV. I thought that it was inevitable that I would always spend my holidays exactly like that — happy and surrounded by the people that I loved the most.
Then, my older sister moved up from Arizona to stay with us — and turned my entire life upside down.
I had no idea just how bad it had gotten until I was standing in a castle in Italy, convinced that I was about to die.
1. CONFESSIONS
Bella was waiting for me and Charlie at the front door when we finally made it home from the hospital. I was holding our father’s hand, trying to give him some sort of comfort as he tried to cope with the sudden loss of one of his closest friends, Harry Clearwater.
Bella wrapped her arms around his waist as soon as he was close enough. Dad pulled his hand away from mine to hug her tightly. I glanced down at the ground, swallowing down my emotions once again.
‘Charlie had a rough day,’ I reminded myself. ‘He didn’t mean to snub me by pulling his hand away.’
“I’m sorry about Harry, Dad,” Bella murmured.
“I’m really going to miss him,” he said.
“How’s Sue doing?”
Charlie sighed deeply and said, “She seems dazed, like she hasn’t grasped it yet. Sam’s staying with her. . . . Those poor kids. Leah’s just a year older than you, and Seth is only fourteen. . . .”
He kept his arm around Bella as he started towards the door again. I followed behind them silently.
“Um, Dad?” Bella began nervously. “You’ll never guess who’s here.”
Charlie and I both looked at Bella, then glanced around the street. Just as I spotted the shiny, black Mercedes parked a little down the street, a soft, high-pitched voice floated out of my house and raised the hair on the back of my neck.
“Hi, Charlie, Eve. I’m sorry I came at such a bad time.”
“Alice Cullen?” Charlie said. I glared at the pixie-like girl, my hands curling into fists as Charlie asked in amazement, “Alice, is that you?”
“It’s me. I was in the neighborhood.”
“Is Carlisle–”
“No, I’m alone.”
I clenched my jaw. My nails were digging into the palms of my hands so hard that I wondered if they would draw blood.
“She can stay here, can’t she?” Bella pleaded, looking up at Charlie and drawing my glare towards her. “I already asked her to.”
“Of course. We’d love to have you, Alice,” Charlie answered.
I scoffed and brushed past all three of them to finally head into the house. I could hear Alice say from outside, “Thank you, Charlie. I know it’s horrid timing.”
“No, it’s fine, really,” Charlie assured her as I began to climb the stairs and they moved inside. “I’m going to be really busy doing what I can for Harry’s family. It will be nice for the girls to have some company.”
Tears gathered in my eyes as I walked into my room and closed the door behind me.
What the hell was Bella thinking? Or Alice, or Charlie for that matter? They had to know that Alice Cullen was only going to stay for one night, maybe two, and then she would leave again. There was absolutely no doubt in my mind that once she did leave, Bella was going to be destroyed and Charlie and I would be left to pick up her broken pieces yet again. My sister and father might still have soft spots for Alice, but I didn’t trust any of the Cullens anymore, not after how they had treated Bella.
I still didn’t understand how they could treat her so horribly. How could they all just disappear one day and not even return her calls or emails? How could Edward leave my sister out in the woods after breaking up with her? How could he leave without making sure that she at least made it back to the house safely?
How could any of them claim to have ever loved or cared about her at all?
After taking a quick shower the next morning, I walked downstairs to find Alice sitting with Charlie in the kitchen while he attempted to make breakfast. I leaned back against the counter beside him, watching warily as he poked the bacon frying in the pan.
Alice asked quietly, “How bad was it?”
I shot her a nasty look as Charlie sighed and said, “Real bad.”
“Tell me about it. I want to know exactly what happened when we left.”
I looked down at my sock-clad feet as I crossed my arms securely over my chest. I tried to control my breathing as I blinked back tears.
Charlie hesitated before he spoke. “I’ve never felt so hopeless. I didn’t know what to do — neither of us did. That first week. . . . I thought I was going to have to hospitalize her. She wouldn’t eat or drink, she wouldn’t move. Dr. Gerandy was throwing around words like ‘catatonic,’ but I didn’t let him up to see her. I was afraid it would scare her.”
“She snapped out of it, though?” Alice asked.
“I was going to have Renée come to take her to Florida. I just didn’t want to be the one . . . if she had to go to a hospital or something,” Charlie explained. “I hoped being with her mother would help. But when she heard her mother was on her way and we started packing her clothes, she woke up with a vengeance. I’ve never seen Bella throw a fit like that. She was never one for tantrums, but boy did she fly into a fury. . . . She threw her clothes everywhere and screamed that we couldn’t make her leave . . . and then she finally started crying. I thought that would be the turning point. I didn’t argue when she insisted on staying here . . . and she did seem to get better at first. . . .”
“But?” Alice prompted when he trailed off.
He sighed. “She went back to school and work, she ate and slept and did her homework. She answered when someone asked her a direct question. . . . But she was . . . empty. Her eyes were blank. There were lots of little things — she wouldn’t listen to music anymore. I found a bunch of CDs broken in the trash. She didn’t read, she wouldn’t be in the same room when the TV was on, not that she watched it so much before. I finally figured it out . . . she was avoiding everything that might remind her of . . . him.”
I dug my fingernails into my arms at the mere mention of Edward. My hatred for him had soaked into every cell of my body after the way he had destroyed my sister. Somehow, I just knew that he knew how depressed Bella would get if he left her. He just didn’t care.
“We could hardly talk,” Charlie continued. “Eve and I were so worried about saying something that would upset her — the littlest things would make her flinch — and she never volunteered anything. She would just answer if I asked her something. . . . She was alone all the time, even with us here. She didn’t call her friends back, and after a while, they stopped calling. It was night of the living dead around here. I still hear her screaming in her sleep. . . .”
My chest tightened as Bella’s tortured screams echoed through my mind. Tears pricked my eyes and I blinked them back once again. Bella’s nightmares had been the singular most horrid thing about the Cullens leaving. It was as if their disappearance from Forks had traumatized her more than anything else ever could.
“I’m so sorry, Charlie,” Alice said.
I bit back the acidic comment I wanted to spit at her as my father replied, “It’s not your fault. You were always a good friend to her.”
I scoffed, quietly enough that Charlie couldn’t hear me.
Alice’s eyes flickered towards me for a moment before she looked back at Charlie. She said, “She seems better now, though.”
“Yeah,” he agreed. “Ever since she started hanging out with Jacob Black, I’ve noticed a real improvement. She has some color in her cheeks when she comes home, some light in her eyes. She’s happier. . . . He’s Eve’s age, so he’s a year younger than her, and I know Bella used to think of him as a friend, but I think maybe it’s something more now, or headed that direction, anyway. Right, Eve?”
I gave him a small smile and said placatingly, “Yeah, maybe.”
But the moment he looked away, my smile disappeared. It was a wistful dream. It was true that there seemed to be something between them, but the one thing I had learned during this whole nightmare was that Edward would always hold Bella’s heart in his hands, no matter how much he hurt her. I hated him for it.
“Jake’s old for his years,” Charlie said, almost defensively. “He’s taken care of his father physically the way Bella took care of her mother emotionally. It matured him. He’s a good-looking kid, too — takes after his mom’s side. He’s good for Bella, you know.”
“Then it’s good she has him.”
Charlie sighed and I could almost see the way his façade crumbled at Alice’s words.
“Okay, so I guess that’s overstating things. I don’t know — even with Jacob, now and then I see something in her eyes, and I wonder if I’ve ever grasped how much pain she’s really in. It’s not normal, Alice, and it . . . it frightens me. Not normal at all. Not like someone . . . left her, but like someone died.”
My heart throbbed painfully in my chest when I heard Charlie’s voice crack. He had never been a very emotional man, so hearing the strain in his voice hurt me. Gently and wordlessly, I nudged him away from the stove and took over cooking breakfast myself. Charlie said nothing, but the way his hand lingered on mine for a few moments conveyed his appreciation better than his words could have.
“I don’t know if she’s going to get over it. . . . I’m not sure if it’s in her nature to heal from something like this. She’s always been such a constant little thing. She doesn’t get past things, changer her mind,” he said.
“She’s one of a kind,” Alice agreed. I threw a glare at her over my shoulder, even though I wasn’t quite sure why her comment bothered me so much.
“And Alice,” Charlie hesitated, then said, “Now, you know how fond I am of you, and I can tell that she’s happy to see you, but . . . I’m a little worried about what your visit will do to her.”
“So am I, Charlie, so am I,” she sighed. “I wouldn’t have come if I’d had any idea. I’m sorry.”
“Don’t apologize, honey. Who knows? maybe it will be good for her.”
“I hope you’re right.”
I shook my head, choosing to remain silent. Of course Alice’s visit wouldn’t be good for Bella. Alice would eventually leave and shatter the few delicate parts of Bella that had somehow managed to heal.
“Alice, I have to ask you something.”
I glanced at Charlie as I began to plate his breakfast. Alice said, “Go ahead.”
“He’s not coming back to visit, too, is he?”
Charlie sounded about as furious as I felt. I knew our rage had to be on nearly the same level. I didn’t think either of us would hesitate to rip Edward a new one if he dared to show his face around here again.
“He doesn’t even know I’m here. The last time I spoke with him, he was in South America.”
I scoffed openly this time and Charlie snorted. I placed his plate in front of him as he commented bitterly, “That’s something, at least. Well I hope he’s enjoying himself.”
Alice tensed and replied steelily, “I wouldn’t make assumptions.”
I had been reading a book upstairs when I heard the shouting. I quickly set my book aside and rushed downstairs. I followed the noise to the living room, where I found Bella, Alice, and Jacob Black. My wide eyes glanced between them, watching as Jacob shouted profanities at Alice, who was ignoring him, a strange look of horror and determination etched onto her face. Bella looked horrified, even more so than when she had the nightmares that made her wake up screaming.
“What’s going on?” I asked worriedly.
“Alice?” Bella said weakly. “What happened?”
“I don’t know!” Alice exclaimed. “What is he thinking?”
She pulled a cellphone from her handbag. My jaw dropped as I watched her dial a number so quickly that her fingers blurred together. How in the hell was it even possible for her to move that fast?
“Rose, I need to talk to Carlisle now. . . . Fine, as soon as he’s back. No, I’ll be on a plane. Look, have you heard anything from Edward?”
As Rosalie Cullen answered Alice’s question, the tiny girl’s face grew more and more appalled by the second. The phone shook in her hand. I looked at Bella, hoping that she would notice my confusion and explain what was happening, but her eyes were locked onto Alice.
“Why? Why would you do that, Rosalie?” A silent moment passed, then Alice spoke again, “Well, you’re wrong on both counts, though, Rosalie, so that would be a problem, don’t you think? Yes, that’s right. She’s absolutely fine . . . I was wrong. . . . It’s a long story. . . . But you’re wrong about that part, too, that’s why I’m calling. . . . Yes, that’s exactly what I saw. . . . It’s a bit late for that, Rose. Save your remorse for someone who believes it.”
She snapped the phone shut and turned back towards Bella.
Bella said, “Alice, Alice, Carlisle is back, though. He called just before–”
“How long ago?”
“Half a minute before you showed up.”
“What did he say?”
“I didn’t talk to him.”
Alice and Bella turned expectantly towards Jacob, and I mirrored them. He flinched, but he didn’t move away from Bella’s side. My mind was whirling, trying to understand what was happening — or what had happened. Nothing about this made sense.
“He asked for Charlie, and I told him Charlie wasn’t here,” Jacob muttered.
“Is that everything?” Alice demanded coldly.
“Then he hung up on me.”
Bella said in a soft voice, “You told him Charlie was at the funeral.”
Alice’s head snapped towards my sister. “What were his exact words?”
“He said, ‘He’s not here,’ and when Carlisle asked where Charlie was, Jacob said, ‘At the funeral.’”
Alice moaned in pain and fell to her knees. I took a step back in shock, glancing between her and Bella and Jacob in confusion.
“Tell me, Alice,” Bella whispered.
“That wasn’t Carlisle on the phone.”
“Are you calling me a liar?” Jacob snarled. Alice ignored him, her unblinking gaze locked on Bella’s face as she explained, “It was Edward. He thinks you’re dead.”
Bella sighed as she relaxed. My eyebrows furrowed in confusion. Why would Edward think that Bella was dead? Why was Alice so clearly distraught? Why was Bella suddenly so calm about this?
“Rosalie told him I killed myself, didn’t she?”
“Yes. In her defense, she did believe it. They rely on my sight far too much for something that works so imperfectly. But for her to track him down to tell him this! Didn’t she realize — or care?”
“And when Edward called here, he thought Jacob meant my funeral.”
“You’re not upset,” Alice whispered.
“Well, it’s rotten timing, but it will all get straightened out,” Bella replied. “The next time he calls, someone will tell him what really. . . .”
She trailed off, her brown eyes widening slightly as she took in the genuine horror on Alice’s face.
“Bella, Edward won’t call again,” Alice said slowly. “He believed her.”
“I don’t understand,” Bella said, her voice so quiet that I could only barely make out the words.
“He’s going to Italy.”
For a single moment, everything seemed to be frozen. No one moved or spoke. Then, Bella shrieked, “NO! No! No, no, no! He can’t! He can’t do that!”
“He made up his mind as soon as your friend confirmed that it was too late to save you.”
“But he — he left! He didn’t want me anymore! What difference does it make now? He knew I would die sometime!”
Alice said quietly, “I don’t think he ever planned to outlive you by long.”
“How dare he!” Bella screamed, jumping to her feet. Jacob stood up beside her, attempting to put himself between her and Alice. “Oh, get out of the way, Jacob!” She elbowed her way around him and begged Alice, “What do we do? Can’t we call him? Can Carlisle?”
She shook her head. “That was the first thing I tried. He left his phone in a trash can in Rio — someone answered it.”
“You said before we had to hurry. Hurry how? Let’s do it, whatever it is!”
“Bella, I-I don’t think I can ask you to. . . .”
“Ask me!”
Alice put her hands on Bella’s shoulders, her voice deadly serious as she spoke. “We may already be too late. I saw him going to the Volturi — and asking to die. It all depends on what they choose. I can’t see that until they make a decision. But if they say no, and they might — Aro is fond of Carlisle, and wouldn’t want to offend him — Edward has a backup plan. They’re very protective of their city. If Edward does something to upset the peace, he thinks they’ll act to stop him. And he’s right. They will.”
Bella just stared at Alice for a moment. Her jaw was clenched, her expression seemingly frustrated.
“So, if they agree to grant his favor, we’re too late. If they say no, and he comes up with a plan to offend them quickly enough, we’re too late. If he gives into his more theatrical tendencies — we might have time. . . . Let’s go!”
“Listen, Bella!” Alice exclaimed. “Whether we are on time or not, we will be in the heart of the Volturi city. I will be considered his accomplice if he is successful. You will be a human who not only knows too much, but also smells too good. There’s a very good chance that they will eliminate us all — though in your case, it won’t be punishment so much as dinnertime.”
“This is what’s keeping us here?” Bella asked. “I’ll go alone if you’re afraid.”
“I’m only afraid of getting you killed.”
“I almost get myself killed on a daily basis! Tell me what I need to do!”
“You write a note to Charlie. I’ll call the airlines.”
“STOP!” I yelled. All three of them turned towards me, their eyes wide as if they had forgotten that I was even in the room with them. “What the fuck is going on? What are you talking about? Bella, you can’t just go to Italy!”
“There’s no time–”
I cut Alice off, “I’m not letting you take my sister all the way to Italy, where you said that she is probably going to die unless you tell me what is really going on!”
“The Cullens are vampires,” Bella said. My eyes widened and I opened my mouth to speak, but Bella rambled on before I could say a single word. “I’ve known about them and what they are since Edward and I got close last year. . . . The Volturi are like their government, or royalty, or something in between, I’m not really sure. They have laws that all vampires are supposed to follow, like not letting humans know that vampires exist. . . . Edward thinks I’m dead because Alice saw me jump off the cliff — oh, yeah, some vampires have special powers, so that’s how Alice can see the future. Edward is going to ask the Volturi to kill him. . . . I need to go. I need to save him, Eve.”
“Bella–”
“Eve, I can’t lose him!” she insisted, tears in her eyes. Her lip trembled and her voice broke as she begged, “Please, please, just this once put yourself in my shoes and help me.”
I flinched at her words and my heart stung sharply in my chest. These past few months, my whole life had revolved around helping my sister. But, like always, I pushed aside my own feelings and swallowed my thoughts in order to help my family.
“Fine,” I sighed. “But, I’m going with you. I’m not letting you do this by yourself.”
“No,” Alice insisted, shaking her head. “It’s too risky.”
I glared at her. “Either I’m coming with you, or I’ll call Charlie home from work right now.”
“Please, Alice,” Bella mumbled, taking my hand in hers. “Just let her come with. We need to go.”
Alice stared at me for a long moment, a blank expression on her face, before she sighed.
“Hurry.”

Five Interruptions
For the first time in years, Leah finally feels like she is truly happy. That for all her heartache, all that she had to suffer through, everything is finally turning around. While her relationship with Emily has been severed to the point that she knows they can’t recover from - from the awkwardness of Emily going from maid of honor to stealing the groom to the now ex-fiancee herself - she does not feel like she really lost anything with Emily. Which meant that she could instead just focus on what she does have - Sam.
“I love you,” Sam murmurs against her neck, burying himself in her, his cock deep inside of her,  “I love you so much, Leah.”
Sam’s hands shake against the skin of her thighs, his fingers gripping her tightly to keep his grip. Her skin feels unreal - as if he can not fathom that he’s actually able to hold her again, to feel her like this, to have been this lucky. No matter how often they do this, no matter how often he kisses her, and has himself buried in her like a second home, he will always hold her like he is scared to let her go.
She lets out a shuddering moan when he pulls out slightly only to slam back in. Her legs wrap tightly around his waist, her back against the wall. His hands hold just underneath the back of her thighs, holding her up easily. She forgot just how strong he is; how light she feels when she is in his arms. She forgot how much she enjoyed it, enjoyed him. She had spent so long denying herself. Denying that she missed him, denying that she still loved him, trying to ignore her feelings, and now with the dam broken, she wants to drown in him.
Ever since they have been back together, she has not spent a moment out of his reach. Every patrol, they are latched to each other’s hip. Every time they are alone, his hands wander over her, catching up on the missed time together.
“I love you too,” she breathes as he lightly bites at her neck.
Her legs shake around him as he adjusts their position, before burying his cock into her. He moans her name softly, and she can not hear it enough. Every time he whispers her name like this, it erases the fact that Emily ever existed from her mind.
“I want all of you,” Leah’s raspy voice is soft, as she speaks through rapid breaths and moans, “I want - I want you to give me all of it.”
She whines, grinding her hips into him, desperate for something more. She aches with want for him, her body flushed and warm. Sam feels the way she clenches around him and twitches in his grasp, writhing for him. He lets out a soft groan, struggling to hold himself together, wanting to just give her everything she asks for.
He could never forget just how lovely she sounds when she is like this, how her voice whispers, how her moans stir him, but he never thought he would be able to hear it again. He wants to hear everything - he does not want to stop until she can not make another sound for him.
“Not until you cum for me first,” Sam shudders, pressing himself as close as he can to her, “Cum for me, then I’ll give you what you want.”
Leah shudders, she can already feel her climax approaching rapidly. The tight coil in her stomach winding, ready to release. She leans into Sam until she is trapped between him and the wall behind her, her chest heaving. All she can feel is them. Their bodies pressed together, their warmth spreading, their skin touching. Everything feels electric. She will never get tired of this feeling - of him.
“ Together,” Leah murmurs as his thrusts become more rapid, “Please.”
Sam aches with the command. He may be the alpha of the pack, but he yields to her. With a gasping moan, they hold each other tightly, as their highs start to reach its peak. He goes for a kiss, his lips connecting with hers hungrily, and desperately. He spills himself into her, deeply and completely, as she squeezes around his cock. It feels like forever, the euphoria washing over them as they stay like that for a moment, savoring the way they feel, savoring the fact that they are connected.
Sam does not pull out from her, nor does she make a move to free herself. The living room of their house is empty, and no one should be around for a while. Most of them are already on patrol and her brother is working with their mother at the diner for a change. For once, there is no rush. No urgency. No drama. No reason that they can not just spend the night together, lost in each other.
“We could always go for another round,” Sam whispers, trying to tempt her, a wicked gleam in his eye as he starts to press kisses to her neck.
“Please wait until I’m gone.”
They feel like cold water has been dumped over them, their bodies freezing as they hear the distinct sound of Embry’s voice. Almost hesitantly, they both turn their heads to see Embry standing in the doorway, hand over his eyes, as he waves his hand in front of him blindly until it hits a forgotten jacket on the chair.
Leah is torn between wanting to disappear from embarrassment and yelling at Embry to get a clue and leave; however, her frustration at the pack using their front door like it a public library wins out in the end as she lets out a groan of frustration.
Sam is more embarrassed that a pack member managed to sneak up on him. With the wolf a bit quieter and tamer, he admits that when he is not shifted, everything takes a bit more thought. His senses are more dull when he does not make the conscious effort to use his inner wolf; something that is a small source of frustration, but it is a sacrifice he will make if it means being with Leah. He would give up the wolf entirely if he had to for her.
“Listen, I am so glad you guys are together - really, I am happy for you, but like, really, in the living room? I knocked like so many times, and no one answered, so I thought no one was home and I just needed my jacket but -”
Sam sucks at his cheek, smacking his lips before he finally speaks, interrupting Embry with a stern, slightly cold voice, “Embry.”
Leah has to lightly bite down on Sam’s shoulder to keep from audibly gasping when Sam still does not remove himself. She can feel Sam getting hard again, his cock stirring inside of her and when he adjusts himself, she is acutely aware of it.
“Yeah, Sam?”
Embry still has his eyes covered, but his face is visibly still bright red, the blush spreading across from ear to ear. He thought he smelled something going on, but considering their newly (newly old? reformed?) relationship, he figured that the smell of sex would be prominent in their house. That made sense. He just thought it was old - and there is so much of it that he could not really smell them. The more he thinks about it, the more it grosses him out.
He really wants to just leave. He wants to run and pretend this never happened, and hopefully he can scrub the images and smell out of his mind and never think about this again.
“Get out.”
Leah’s leg twitches again as Sam adjusts himself. He makes it clear exactly what he plans on doing as soon as Embry is gone. He does not even have to use his alpha voice to get his point across as Embry scrambles awkwardly out the door, yelling his apologies as the door slams shut behind him. ___________________
Leah hates to admit that even after being together with Sam again, that Emily still lingers in the back of her mind. Insecurities still whisper in the back of her mind that seem to get louder on nights like this. Nights that feel more empty, more like how it used to feel, even when she can see Sam in the bed beside her.
She reaches out to touch him, her hand shaking as she tries to steady herself. She knows that she should not listen to that voice in the back of her mind, but when he is not there to reassure her, it gets louder. It gets harder when he is not the one drowning it out.
Maybe it is a bit co-dependent of her, but she thinks that even with Emily gone, everything still feels raw. She thought that it would be a happy ending now, that everything would go the way it used to, like how it was when they were engaged, how it was before Emily. And for a while, it was - it is. But it is not a straightforward path like she thought it would be.
It is like a rollercoaster of ups and downs, everything is great and when it is great, it is unbelievably wonderful. Then all of a sudden, she sits down and can not seem to forget how Sam did leave her, how betrayed she was. How he was with Emily. How he treated her.
She said that she forgives him - and she does, so it does not feel fair to still struggle with what he did in the past.
“Why are you awake,” Sam’s voice is groggy, half-asleep, as he turns over and presses kisses to her knuckles, “You should be getting rest. We have a long day tomorrow - council meetings, patrol. The Cullens want to do a meeting too.”
He says their name with bitterness, but Leah just sits back to rest her head on his chest. She lets him wrap his arm around her and hold her close, trying to let it comfort her. After a moment of silence, Sam sits up a bit more, waking up as he holds her close, realizing that in her silence, something's not quite right.
“Do you want to talk about it,” Sam asks gently. “Is something wrong?”
Leah sighs deeply, “I don’t know if I’ll sound like a dick if I do.”
“Why don’t I be the judge of that,” Sam tries to encourage. He used to feel like getting Leah to open up to him was like pulling teeth, but now it feels like the easiest thing in the world. Even though he knows it’s not for her. “Just…Tell me what’s going on then we can talk about it, together. ”
Leah frowns, biting at her bottom lip before she confesses.
“I - I still think about everything that happened. Before, you know. And you apologized, and I forgave you - I still forgive you, but I feel like a dick because I can’t just forget about it.”
Sam nods along carefully, not quite surprised, “Forgiving someone doesn’t always mean forgetting. You’re not holding it over my head. You’re not using it to make me feel guilty or bringing it up in fights. You’re not using it against me. It’s okay to still think about it, to still feel a little hurt, even if you do forgive me.”
He presses a kiss to her temple, and the more he talks, the more she relaxes, “I hurt you, pretty badly, for a pretty long time. It’s okay that it still affects you, even if you don’t want it to. As long as you don’t forget how I feel about you now. How much I love you. How much I’m here for you.”
Their position changes as he talks, with him starting to press kisses along her neck. With each sentence, he starts to trail his way down her body, pressing kissing down her naked chest. She shivers, leaning back as he situates himself in between her legs to kiss along her breasts.
“I love you, Leah,” Sam’s voice is muffled by her skin as he kisses right under her breast. His hand starts to wonder, one up toward her other breast, and the other between her legs. “I’ll do everything I can to prove it to you, every single day if that’s what it takes.”
He takes her nipple into his mouth, sucking at her breast. He pinches her other nipple, rolling it between his fingertips before tugging on it lightly. She writhes, hips starting to buck with a groan, already feeling herself get wet from his actions. She becomes like putty under him, melting and molding under his hands.
His other hand slips between her thighs, his finger starting to tease her entrance. He runs his finger along her folds, feeling how wet she is for him, and teases her briefly. She shudders at the electric, feathery touch of his fingertip before he finally slips his finger into her with ease.
“Such a good girl,” Sam praises as he kisses her breast, “Let me take care of you.”
Leah can’t even find it in her to speak, just groaning as her hips buck into his palm desperately. Everything that kept her up at night starts to fade away, being replaced only by this. Sam keeps rotating between biting and sucking at her nipples, squeezing whatever it is not in his mouth, as he curls his finger inside of her.
When he adds a second finger, she lets out a loud gasp, before whining with want. He picks up his pace, his fingers curling as he thrusts them inside of her as deep as he can, slamming them into her. The sounds of her wet pussy become more audible, mixing in with her moans as her hands start to claw at the back of his head.
But he’s not done with her yet. Just when he can feel her climax approaching, from the way she clenches around his fingers to the way she clenches her toes, he pulls his fingers out. She whines, and looks at him briefly like he’s about to get an earful. He chuckles lightly at her impatient, giving her nipple one last tug between his teeth before he trails kisses down to her navel.
“ Oh,” she groans with realization as he presses a kiss between her legs. His hands go to her thighs, urging her legs to open further for him. “ Oh, Sam. Fuck.”
“Let me taste you,” Sam whispers, his tongue trailing along her inner thigh briefly. He presses a kiss to her skin before he puts his mouth to his prize.
Leah jolts when he presses a kiss to her clit, before blowing on it gently. Her hands go to the back of his head, tugging at whatever hair she can grab before she settles trying to press his head further to her. He listens, his tongue dipping between her folds with ease. He traces every letter of her name with his tongue, rolling it along every bit of her that he can before he dips his tongue into her.
Leah’s legs go on top of his shoulders, as she struggles not to squeeze him between her thighs. He trails his tongue along her, before dipping it back into her. He slides back out to focus on her clit, sucking it tenderly, and she twitches.
“ Sam.”
She is so close. She can feel it building already. He relishes in the way he makes her come undone. When he focuses back on entrance, his thumb goes to her clit, circling it softly before slowly going more frantically to push her over the edge as he dips his tongue into her.
Her climax washes over her immediately, and Sam does not even so much as pause. He keeps going for a moment, to push her stimulation a bit further as he eagerly tastes her.
“You taste so good,” Sam purrs, kissing along her inner thigh, “Do you think you’re ready for more?”
Leah shudders, her legs twitching, and nods, “ Fuck, Sam.”
He starts to move to position himself better when he can smell something other than their arousal - a visitor. He shares a brief panicked look with Leah before she tosses their blanket over them both to preserve themselves, trapping him between her thighs, just as the door slams open.
“LEAH! Tell your boyfriend -” Paul barks out. He is well aware of the smell of sex lingering in the room, just as he’s not oblivious to Sam’s obvious hiding spot underneath the covers between her legs. Paul realizes quickly that Sam is there and listening. The other pack members tried to stop him from just barging in, but Paul is insistent on getting this taken care of now.
“-SAM! I’m not covering anymore of your patrols just so you can get your fucking dick wet!”
Paul is getting frustrated with the two of them, and he knows the other members are too. He is just the only one brave enough to do something about it. His inner wolf is whining, pleading for him to just leave and let it go; that it is not worth starting a fight with his alpha over. He stands his ground as he continues,
“We all have our own needs too, you know! Do you know how long it’s been since I’ve been able to get a fucking date because I have to keep covering your ass!”
Sam sighs deeply, briefly pressing a kiss against Leah’s thigh. He can not risk coming out from under the blanket without exposing Leah’s naked body, but he does speak up, “Can we talk about this later?”
Paul realizes that with the compromising position he caught his alpha in that Sam can not really pick a fight with him even if he wanted to.
Paul snorts, crossing his arms tightly before giving them both a stern look, “Yeah, fine, whatever. You get ten minutes, you fucking horndogs.”
The door slams on his way out and Leah lets out a breath before laughing, “Do you know how bad we’ve got to be for Paul to call us horndogs?”
Her breathing hitches as she feels Sam start to slide his finger into her. He almost wants to see what Paul would do if they go over ten minutes. If he pushes the limit. His inner wolf edges him on to continue. Sam is the alpha, if he wants to take a bit longer to make sure his girl finishes, then he will. Paul can wait. Leah lets out a sharp gasp as he curls his finger into her.
He does not want to waste any time, as he presses a kiss to her thigh, “ Oh, we’re so bad.” _____________________
To their credit, after Paul’s interruption, Sam and Leah do get better. They control themselves. They try to keep their hands off each other. They schedule separate patrols to the relief of the pack; though Paul argues that it is almost worse to hear such lovey-dovey thoughts twice , but the rest of the pack argue that it is much better given that they do not have to deal with the two constantly thinking about fucking every time they so much as look at each other. Sam just barks at Paul every time he bitches, knowing that no matter what decision is made, Paul would find some way to complain about it.
Surprisingly, he bitches a lot less if he patrols solely with Leah. Sam has a feeling that it is because Paul feels guilty about the way he treated Leah before. Now, Sam finds that the two are actually productive patrolling together; Leah barks back anything that Paul throws her way more and the back and forth feels more playful, more like siblings than with genuine menace. Sam takes a step back from being overprotective to accept that it will always be a part of their friendship together.
Things start to go into a more normal routine, one where they live together more peacefully. Sam finds himself enjoying becoming more of a brother to Seth again; he missed the little brother more than he thought he did and Seth does not hide how much he missed Sam as a brother after he forgives Sam for what he did to Leah. Sue is the hardest one to win back over, and Sam expected as much. He does not expect Sue to easily accept him after hurting her daughter, when Sue finally does express her forgiveness, welcoming him back with open arms, he feels a big sigh of relief.
They start to become a family again. It is not like it was before they shifted, or before Emily, instead something better forms. Something stronger and more solid.
The pack starts to get used to the transition and differences of Emily running the house and Leah running the house. While their door is not constantly revolving, all members of the pack still know that they are welcome when they need a place to get away or if they’re hurt. That Leah will never turn them away if they actually have a reason for coming in that goes beyond just trying to bother them.
While the pack does not have Emily’s home cooked meals, the Clearwaters actually step up to make sure the pack is fed with some boundaries that they can not solely rely on their food as their only intake. Sue is very strict on the boys and even Leah to make sure to eat throughout the day to keep up their metabolism, and that if they’re going to eat so much of her food that means they’re going to help pay for it too. No one is brave enough to even try to negotiate her terms nor do they find themselves wanting to. Leah doesn’t dare do the cooking after accidentally starting a fire, but the pack finds that Emily’s cooking does not even compare to Sue and even Seth’s newfound talent for baked goods.
Even Leah’s friendship with Bella grows more, to Sam’s chagrin. He certainly makes no efforts to warm up to the Cullens or Jacob, but he is more peaceful about it for the sake of Leah retaining the only female friendship she has. Neither him nor Edward make any efforts to become friends, but they both start to have a mutual respect for each other, understanding that they are both doing this for their girls.
But even though the pair are doing better at controlling themselves, Sam and Leah still find themselves slipping away into each other. Whether it is in the sanctuary of their own home or on a night like tonight, in the forest when they’re supposed to be on patrol. But with his wolf calming after the imprint broke, Sam finds himself pushing the limits of what exactly he can do with his freedom with Leah.
“We really should be patrolling,” Leah murmurs as they break apart from their kiss.
Sam growls, “We should, but I also want to make up for lost time with my girl. As much as I hate to say it, I think the Cullens have tonight covered.”
Leah lets out a laugh as Sam kisses at her neck, “You can’t just use that excuse to fuck me every time you want.”
“ Fuck?” Sam mocks being offended, “And here I thought we were making love.”
She lets out a shudder as he playfully bites at her ear. She groans when he slips his hand between her thighs, his fingers finding her entrance with ease as they slip inside of her. She leans into him as he holds her close, pushing his fingers deeper into her. He curls and scissors them inside of her until he feels her shudder with release.
There are two good things about doing this during their patrols. The first is that they can be fairly confident that no one in the pack is going to be wandering around; none of the boys tend to patrol more than Sam makes them and days off are like a goldmine that they don’t take for granted. The second is that it is much easier to fuck around in the middle of the forest when you don’t have to worry about your clothes. Given that they planned to patrol, their clothes are neatly tucked away on the back porch for when they return.
“Hmm, sometimes,” Leah teases, “Sometimes it’s making love, but now? This is fucking.”
She pulls him close as she says it, making him shudder as their dynamic starts to shift. Leah starts to take more control. She bites and kisses along his collarbone before trailing her way down his torso. She takes a moment to admire and kiss along his chiseled chest before sliding down to her knees.
Sam shudders as Leah takes his cock to her lips. She presses kisses to his tip, swirling her tongue around him before taking the tip into her mouth. His hands go to the back of her head, petting her hair, but not once pushing her toward him or urging her to do more. He lets her set the pace and tone, letting her do only as much as she wants at a time, even as his cock throbs against her mouth.
Leah teases him for much longer than he would have wanted. He becomes like putty in her hands as she takes her fingernail lightly against the underside of his shaft before grasping it firmly in her palm, pumping him for a moment before taking her into her mouth.
He shudders, his hands gripping on her hair, desperate to hold onto something as she sinks down to his base. She slowly pulls herself up with a wet pop, taking a second to catch her breath, before taking him into her mouth again. Steadily, she sets a rhythm as her head bobs up and down on his cock. Each time he looks down at her, he lets out a string of moans and curse words.
Her hand starts to keep herself busy, as she can feel how wet she is. Even after cumming once for Sam, she aches for more as Sam’s cock fills her mouth. She lets out a low groan against his shaft as she slips her fingers into herself. The wet sounds of her mouth and her fingers plunging into her pussy seem to be deafening, as they lose themselves into each other. Her fingers pump messily, as she slips a third digit in. Sam’s cock comes out of her mouth with a wet pop as she lets out a low groan before taking it back in with a teary look in her eyes.
“You’re doing so good,” Sam praises, encouraging her, “ Fuck - yes, if you keep going like that, I’m going to cum into that mouth of yours. Would you like that?”
Even with the filthiest words coming from his mouth, he speaks softly with a loving infliction in his voice. Leah looks up at him with wide, glistening eyes, his cock shoved deep into her mouth as she nods. The look on her face as she looks up at him, giving him her approval, is all it takes for him to go stumbling over the edge, shooting himself into the back of her throat.
Leah pulls away, gasping for air, as she slides her fingers out to wipe at the corner of her mouth, her face flushed and knees too weak to stand just yet.
There is a distinct yowling from the woods behind them, making them both tense. The loving mood shifts into something more dramatic as Sam immediately shifts. He is mindful of Leah, his large wolf form jumping across from her to stand in between her and the source of the noise protectively. Leah is about to shift, when she can smell who their visitor is and relaxes, preferring to hide behind Sam instead of shifting and hearing whatever conversation the two are about to have. She would jump in without hesitating if things seemed too tense, or if they started fighting, but given a choice, she would rather not have to listen to whatever Sam and Jacob have to say.
“You got to be fucking kidding me,” Jacob immediately voices through the link, “They said you were back to together and that your imprinting broke with Emily, but I couldn’t believe it.”
Sam relaxes some, but still stands his ground protectively by Leah even as Jacob’s wolf form starts to emerge from the trees. He is careful to stand in a way that shields her naked body from his view, even though it makes Jacob snort.
“You don’t have to hide her, I know what she looks like naked.”
Sam growls, but Jacob just lets out a noise of frustration as he flinches.
Jacob starts to defend himself, his hackles raising, before he forces himself to relax, his voice softening, “ I didn’t mean it like that, Sam. I was just talking about when we used to be a part of the same pack and when we used to be kids. It was a poor choice of words.”
Sam relaxes, but his posture is still stiff. Poor choice of words is an understatement; it had immediately set off his inner wolf to hear something like that about his girl from another wolf. Specifically another alpha. He forces himself to stay in control knowing that Jacob did not mean anything by it, and reminding himself just how casual the entire pack is about nudity. Of course, Jacob had seen her a few times, just as much as he would have seen any other member of the pack.
Sam snorts, knowing that out of all of them, they have gotten more glimpses of Paul than anyone else.
“I just came to see if it was true,” Jacob admits, “I can leave if I’m intruding.”
There is an undertone of something unreadable in Jacob’s voice, almost like he is sad, but Sam has a feeling that it has more to do with the reality of imprints than it does with him and Leah being back together. He softens. He can not imagine what it must be like for Jacob. Someone who gave up so much to try to form an imprint with a specific girl. Someone who advocated that it did not matter that he did not imprint with Bella, that he still loved her. How much the entire pack, Sam included, fought him on it.
Now, Jacob has to see how he was right - that the imprint did not really matter in the end. That it was possible to love someone outside of the imprint and possible to break an existing bond. Only for everyone to realize it too late - after Jacob had already made his sacrifices and chose Bella, chose the Cullens.
If everyone had just realized it sooner, then maybe Jacob would have had a better chance with Bella, or at the very least, Jacob would have to feel like he was choosing between the girl he loved and the entire pack.
Sam wants to apologize, but true to his word, Jacob starts to turn and leave, sending Sam one last look over his shoulder.
“I’m happy for you guys, congrats.” _____________________________
No one thinks to tell Emily the new rules that have been established. Do not tease Leah too much anymore (between them feeling guilty and Sam being a protective alpha), give Sue an appropriate amount of money to contribute to the pack’s appetite, give appropriate warning if you’re coming over unexpectedly and don’t just barge in. The last two rules are the ones Emily breaks.
She did not think that she had to give any warning. Leah and Sam were both ignoring any texts or calls; she is not sure if she is blocked or if they were just reading any messages to themselves. She did not expect them to be moved in together already. She figured she could just come in like she always has, see Sam like she used to, and maybe she could see Leah, but she is not too thrilled to see her cousin again after said cousin ruined her relationship. She supposes she could if she had to; but she honestly would be worried about Leah shifting on her, scarring her like Sam did in the heat of the moment if Leah lashes out.
But first and foremost, she mostly just wants to talk to Sam. She knows that Sam said he loved Leah, but he said he loved her too. Maybe not that day, but he has said it. He said it when they were imprinted, when she was at the bonfires, when she was taking care of the tribe and the pack.
And she has one thing Leah can never have. Unlike Leah, what Sam and Emily had had been determined by their ancestors, by fate. They were soulmates. That was what Sam had said, what everyone said. She knew the imprint was gone. She felt the moment it broke, and she has not felt it the same way again since. She never felt the pull to go see Sam, or felt his emotions through their link.
Oddly, it left her feeling a bit empty. Hollow. She tried to see other people after leaving, but nothing really compared to what the imprint felt like. No one was willing to make the Earth shift for her or worship her the way Sam did.
So she is back after convincing herself that like any other relationship, after some time apart, things can change. Maybe they just needed a break. Maybe Sam is just confused. Maybe they just need to talk it out. Maybe she just needs Sam to see her and just like the first time, he will look into her eyes and fall in love with her all over again. Maybe this whole time, he and Leah had actually fought and broke up - after all, her cousin is more short tempered, and it couldn’t have boded well with her that Sam had broken up with her before. She believes that this whole time, the reason he never answered her was because he did not know how to admit that he made a mistake.
That was okay, she would forgive him. She would swoop in and be the perfect girlfriend, the perfect girl. She would save him. She would come in, and just like it was with the imprint, he would crumble at her feet, apologizing, and weeping, and he would worship her. He would love her. She would become his everything again.
When she gets to the door, she is a bit thrown off that a few of the loose boards in the porch are fixed; the same boards that she had begged Sam weeks to fix, but he never seemed to find the time for her or what she needed from him the same way he made time for the pack. She shakes her head and comes through the front door to find the lights off.
She almost thinks that maybe she caught him at a time when he was gone on patrol. She could wait - at least for a bit, if needed. But then she spots the light coming in through the crack of a slightly opened bedroom door and immediately knows that it is him.
She only stops when it becomes clear to her that beyond the door is something she never really imagined.
“Fuck, Leah.” Sam groans out, “You are so perfect. My beautiful, sweet girl. You take my cock so well - fuck.”
Emily’s hand goes to her mouth, her back to the wall as she stands just behind the slightly open door.
“I’ll fill you to the brim until you’re carrying my pup,” Sam groans, “ My perfect girl, I love you so much.”
Something in Emily twists as she starts to leave, unexpected tears bristling in her eyes. A bitterness forms in her chest - he never was like that with her. Every time they had been together, Emily would go as far as to even describe it as just average - nothing particularly special, but she enjoyed having someone like Sam (chiseled, good looking, who knew what he was doing). He always made sure that she finished. He always put her first and never asked for her to do anything for him. She enjoyed herself, she would finish for him, and he would insist that she did not have to take care of his still raging hard on so she would not. She would just give him a kiss, and he would happily just lay back down with her, cuddling with her, going to bed.
He never said those things to her. He never sounded like that with her. He never called her perfect, never talked about having kids, never made that much noise. He was never that eager. Her heart twists, and she thinks maybe - maybe he is not the one who made a mistake.
Maybe she did by coming here.
Emily is gone by the time that Leah opens the bedroom door, her body aching and covered with sweat after a particularly long stint with Sam. She stretches her arms out, planning on indulging in a shower (she might even convince Sam to join her). But she does not get very far before she can smell someone.
Leah’s face contorts with bitterness at the familiar stench of her cousin, but at the very least it is not fresh. She would almost think that it is from when Emily still lived there, but she knows damn well that Emily’s scent disappeared in the house shortly after she took over. Which meant Emily was there recently.  Anger starts to bubble under her skin, but strong arms wrap around her from behind as Sam kisses along her neck.
“She was here sometime during the middle of me praising you,” Sam admits softly, “She left sometime after I talked about filling you.”
Leah turns her head to look at him in astonishment, “You knew she was here?”
Sam does not seem that guilty about what he did, just smirking as he presses a kiss to her shoulder, “Of course I did, but if she comes barging into our home, I don’t know what else she expected. I figured I might as well give her a show - let her know just how much I love and adore you, that she could never compare to you.”
He lays it on thick as he trails kisses along every bit of skin he can reach. Leah leans back into his arms, holding his hands at her waist with a devious chuckle. She never expected Sam to be the one to do something that cruel - but she can not really say she is against it. If she knew Emily was there, she would have done the same thing.
Turning her head back, she manages to sneak a kiss to Sam’s lips, “Mmh - are you going to keep going?”
Sam laughs, holding her tightly, “For you? Always.” _______________________
Leah and Sam no longer make it a habit of fornicating during patrol as Jacob later had put it, and to the pack’s relief, no one has walked in on any more scarring situations for a while now. Enough so that the pack’s not bombarded with dirty thoughts all the time and can tolerate a patrol schedule with both of them. Paul still refuses to do it if both of them are together, insisting that he would rather walk in on them again then hear all the ‘lovey-dovey gooey shit’ that they still flood the bonded link with. Sam finds that he was right - no matter what they do, Paul will be Paul.
But right now, neither of them are scheduled to patrol, leaving them with some free time to just themselves in a more PG-friendly rated way. There is something just freeing about being able to walk and run through the forest as wolves together with no pressure to patrol or to hunt, just to be able to run.
Leah laughs over the link as Sam playfully chases her through the forest, the wolf in her yipping happily as her tail wags. She pretends to be shocked, erupting into a series of laughs as Sam tackles her to the ground. He is careful with her, mindful of his teeth and his claws. He makes sure not to hurt her as they wrestle on the ground, their wolf forms rolling in the dirt with laughter before it slowly starts to calm down.
Leah pants heavily, trying to catch her breath as she lays down on the dirt. Sam lays down beside her, his chest heaving with heavy breaths. His larger wolf encompasses her as he rests his head on top of her, protectively guarding her even as they are both exhausted from running through the reservation. For a moment, they stay like that in silence. Leah enjoys the sounds of the nature around them, and the warmth of Sam lightly on top of her, closing her eyes to just savor the peace. Sam’s snout buries into her fur briefly before he gives her ear a lick, grooming out of place fur lovingly.
“Leah,” Sam gently says, “Do you ever think about us getting engaged again?”
Leah’s tail flicks, “What brought this up so suddenly?”
Sam lets out a long huff, snorting through his snout. His head feels a bit heavier as it lays back down on the back of her neck, “I’ve just been thinking, but I can’t think anymore or make a decision unless I know where you stand on it and it’s not something we’ve really talked about since being back together yet.”
Leah, oddly, does not feel suffocated by the way he lays on her as he questions her. Maybe if it was done earlier in their relationship, she would have flicked him off to give herself some space, but now, she lays down contently, letting his weight gently press against her. She makes no move to push him off or get up.
“...I’ve been thinking too,” she admits. “I - I don’t like to think about our original plans. If it’s something that we decide to do again, I’d want to start from ground zero. A fresh start. A new plan, a new venue, new everything . I wouldn’t want so much as the same cake design.”
It would be a hassle, for both of them and everyone involved. Any notes and planning that she did before have already been burned and even if she did still have, she would not want them. She wants to start over - call new places, make new plans. She would not want even the same color scheme. She would feel a little more guilty about it if she did not know for a fact that all the members of the pack that were going to attend the first time around had already returned their tuxes for a refund.
The only exception she would make for this rule is her mom, knowing her mother still has the dress she was going to wear to the wedding tucked back into the closet. The store refused to refund her or take it back. Her mom spent too much money on that dress to not get the chance to wear it and Leah would never be as selfish to ask her mother to spend that amount of money again just to get another dress.
Sam lets out a chuckle, not expecting anything less, “Are you sure? I think we still have a credit for that one place -”
Leah whines, and Sam quickly realizes that the joke hits a bit of a sore spot. He changes his tone quickly, licking at her ear as an apology, “I was kidding, Leah, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean it like that.”
“A fresh start,” he continues, agreeing, “I like the sound of that. We could go through everything like it’s the first time, just maybe a little wiser on some decisions.”
“I’d get a new dress,” Leah adds, “Something that’s not even remotely like the first one. I’ll get something that suits me now.”
Sam hums in agreement. Through their link, their own fantasies of the thought start to flash through. They both think about what it would be like. Images of Leah in a dress, of her walking down the aisle, of them saying their vows. Finally getting married. Leah lets out a content sigh at the thought, more comfortable with the idea than she anticipated.
She thought long and hard about this even before Sam brought it up. She didn’t want to talk about it until she knew how she felt about the idea, and if she could stomach going through it again. But the more she thought about it, the easier it became. She was not as bitter as she expected nor was she sad that Emily wouldn’t be her bridesmaid anymore. Instead, she got excited at the idea of having Bella be her bridesmaid of honor this time. The only thing that makes her sad is that her father would not be there; he would not get to attend the wedding, or walk her down the aisle, but she finds comfort in that she is at least marrying the man he approved of. The one he liked and knew and was friends with.
More importantly, the more she thought about getting married to Sam, the more she realized that she was not expecting something bad to happen again. She was not waiting for the other shoe to drop or for something to keep them from getting married. She did not doubt him, did not even think for a moment that he would leave her again. That was when she realized that she is ready.
“Sam, I want to get married again,” Leah admits.
“Again?” Sam teases, “ I don’t know what you mean, this is our first time getting married, isn’t it?”
Leah laughs, her tail wagging as it thunks against the ground, “Does that mean that we’ll do it? That you’ll marry me?”
“That’s the oddest proposal I’ve ever heard,” Sam laughs when she playfully gets up, pushing him off to swat at him, “But it’s a yes, Leah. I’ll marry you, I would be honored to marry you.”
Even as she playfully tries to bite at him and swat her paws against him, Sam comes closer to her until his snout is against her cheek, rubbing against her lovingly. She immediately returns the gesture, rubbing her face against his, her heart thumping wildly in excitement.
Their moment is interrupted when Leah is tackled to the ground by a familiar, smaller wolf, whose tag wags as his tongue droops out of his mouth with excited slobber. Seth’s wolf pins her down playfully in excitement, with his mind buzzing.
“LEAH! LEAH! Do you really mean it? Are you and Sam really getting married? Am I finally going to be a wedding bear?”
Sam’s howling laughter can be heard as Leah shoves her little brother off of her, “It’s bearer. For the last time, I’m not going to let you show up to the wedding wearing a bear costume.”
Seth is not deterred, hopping around like a puppy with a new toy, his excitement is contagious. Sam finds himself watching his little brother in amusement; he can imagine the scene Seth will cause being the ring bearer, putting his all into it like it is the most serious task he could ever do. He has a feeling that the younger boy will take it more seriously than he takes his patrols.
Sam nudges Seth, “That means you’ll be stuck in a monkey suit just like me.”
Leah shoots him a playful, dirty look that makes him laugh as Seth voices his confusion over the term, “Why would she let me wear a monkey costume instead of a bear one?”
