John and Colorism
John is Māori. He is a man of color, and he is coming from a society where he was racialized. Specifically, at least as a general consensus, his "faceclaim" in a sense is Taika Waititi.
Anyway, without getting into every facet of how I think the series and fandom engages with and addresses men of color, because that scope starts getting out of this specific topic and into a different one, I want to state that I think the relationship John has to both Alecto and to G1deon actually further represents themes of colorism.
John makes himself God. He makes himself god and to him that becomes some strange performance of western civilization roman empire 2.0 space imperialism planet consumption speedrun mixed w New Catholocism or whatever, but where there's a PERFORMANCE of equality where there actually isn't. Just like I argue John not ONLY makes new classes with necromancers and cavaliers (I'm not even getting into everything else with this), but ALSO he did not in fact shatter gender oppression, he just shifted it and patted himself on the ass for it.
YES it is queernormative and as a queer man himself, it makes sense this would be important to him, just like it makes sense for it to be important to him that race manifest very differently (go pretty unacknowledged really*) across his New Roman Empire in Space. But he has his own limits and biases and I would argue both colorism and misogyny are present for him.
He chose to make Alecto the way he did. And he had all of his own reasons for it, but surely it can also be noted how linked those reasons can be to both colorism and misogyny as well. I know he made her a specific barbie that had specific history to him, but does this barbie and his choice in her also highlight his priorities, just as blatantly as his choice of empire?
I need Alecto to come out so I can finalize some of these concepts, but it is still colorism for a man of color, especially one wounded by rejection (as we see in Nona) to see power in dominating a white woman. To see a SUBVERSION in the act of it. I think John sees a lot of things as subversion without seriously considering the levels he's actually engaging in. I think John is shallow.
Which brings me also to G1deon and Pyrrha. I think John had some concepts around their dynamics, their relationship, in their interactions that was in these same lines. I think John saw G1deon a specific way, I think he passively compared himself (including how he discusses it in Nona, again), I think the way he engaged with G1deon did not show solidarity or equality (G1deon was also an engineer!) but showed presumed superiority on John's end. Also he made G1deon how he did before he crafted his 10,000 year old weird empire. If I could put it into words more eloquently, I would, but I feel like John saw triumph in G1deon being Pyrrha's necromancer and I also think he then delegated him to "attack dog" for himself (as we see in Harrow the Ninth especially!!!)
I genuinely think 100% that regardless of if G1deon is racialized as black (I think he is personally), he is meant to be darker and racialized more than John was. And I think John subconsciously compares that! I think it is instead further evidence towards a narrative on colorism, including the way he's separate from Mercymorn and Augustine through HtN.
This is without getting into Pyrrha as a cop.
*I actually don't know if I should say "unacknowledged" here, because the cavs being almost always darker than their necromancers seems really notable.

"Okay, here's my guess. As humans evolved, the first big problem we had to overcome was me vs. us; learning to sacrifice a little individual freedom for the benefit of a group. You know, like sharing food and resources so we don't starve or get eaten by tigers, things like that.
The next problem to overcome was us vs. them, trying to see other groups different from ours as equals. That one, we're still struggling with. It's why we have racism and nationalism and... why fans of Stone Cold Steve Austin hate fans of the Rock.
What's interesting about you is, I don't think you ever got past the me vs. us stage. I mean, have you ever been part of a group that you really cared about? The Brainy Bunch is basically the first group that became a part of your self identity and now that it's breaking up you're feeling this new kind of loss, and you're scared of going back to being alone. I mean, that's my guess. The other possible medical diagnosis is that you're just a bit of a dick."
More The Good Place posting because I think the show is underrated and none of the actually good parts have clips or gif sets cuz they aren't funny. For context this was Simone (a Black woman) speaking to Eleanor (the white woman main character).
This is a very good quote to remember, as we dismantle whiteness and you find yourself getting defensive about it. Although, this also applies to other communities and interests you've used to define yourself (like when you see criticism of The Thing you identify with as criticism of you.)
Remember this quote, for example, when you feel so strongly about a show that you want to donate money to keep it from being cancelled. Or when you find yourself unable to make a sacrifice to the 'me' like say your morning Starbucks for the 'us' that wants to limit human suffering.
Maybe you actually are afraid of the gang (white ppl) breaking up and all that implies. Maybe you are scared of being alone if there is no (white) community."
And building on previous convos we've had here; since being alone outside whiteness is something y'all have talked about extensively on my blog..
Defining yourself outside whiteness might literally feel like an attack on your self but it's not. You are you and you are a person whether you're white, mixed, or not at all ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Whether you want it to continue being the defining aspect of your personhood will show through your actions.
But it is time to move on.
Because whiteness tries to force it's beliefs onto you when you identify with whiteness -ignorance, individuality, superiority- and it shows through that "do it yourself/not my problem" attitude if not through blatant racism. It's up to y'all to reject that pre-set definition and define yourselves, now.
What are your values? Your principles? Your likes and hobbies and dislikes? Like in a world without racism or sexism or transphobia or taika waititi or Stan lee... Who are are you when stripped of bigotry and socially constructed identities, ykwim? Y'all gotta figure that out.
And you won't be alone in that endeavor and I really can't stress enough how much easier it would be to our shared goal of destroying racism and white supremacy if it wasn't an abandonment trigger that put white ppl into a literal identity crisis to imagine a world without those things.
Like at it's core that's what those feelings are and idk about y'all but it feels like a huge disservice to literally every person on earth to keep compromising on human rights because white supremacists made y'all scared to be outside whiteness where the rest of us are when you don't even like how it feels to be white anyway.
Have some solidarity. Give a little of 'me' for the 'us' so we All can have better.

OK so people are asking your opinions about Cheksea seemingly implying Taika cheated on her.
What's your opinion on the implications he was super unsupportive of her career and just wanted her to be his little doting submissive wife?
so those are two separate implications and i think one is more valid than the other
Tumblr media
yes this does suggest he was unsupportive of her career. in his defence, i'd probably prioritise my own career if i was bringing in marvel money and my partner wasn't. in her defence, she absolutely deserves to be with somebody who supports her career and is proud of her work. it's not something i'm going to make a judgement on, it's just another thing that contributed to the end of their marriage
Tumblr media
with regard to the dutiful wife stuff, i'm not sure she's saying that this is what taika specifically expected her to be. i read it as her saying that there's a general societal expectation that the wives of men in the film industry will give up their own career to follow them around while they're filming, and chelsea didn't want to do that, which is entirely reasonable of her. and as a result of that, their relationship started to break down, because they were separated, as an indirect result of chelsea not wanting to do the 'dutiful wife' thing and follow him to australia.
alternatively, maybe he did specifically want her to defer to him as if he's her superior, but i don't know! i wasn't there! i'm not their family's spokesperson!
it doesn't matter! i don't know any of these people! none of us do!
the version of taika waititi that i know (as someone who's never met him but enjoys his work) is not a real person. my idea of him is based entirely on how he presents himself publicly, how he comes across in interviews and bts content, and how other celebrities (who are also presenting a specific image of themselves) talk about him. taika waititi as a celebrity is a separate entity to taika waititi as a guy. i'm not going to stop enjoying media i love because someone involved in making it may or may not have been a shitty husband to his ex wife.

RIP Loki, indeed
To jog your memory regarding Thor’s life story, Hemsworth and Waititi have helpfully put together a brief recap of the thunder god’s arc. But they, uh, kinda forgot someone. Valkyrie, Hulk, and Korg are all featured, but there’s nary a mention of you-know-who. Which I guess isn’t surprising, given Hemsworth’s bitterness over having his character outshone by a superior actor, but it still feels awfully petty.
Hiddleston has claimed that he doesn’t know whether he’ll be in Love and Thunder (other than as a tattoo on Thor’s back), so I assume they filmed a small cameo or post-credit scene which may or may not make it into the final cut. At first I was disappointed that Loki isn’t in L&T, but you know what, it’s probably for the best. Waititi hasn’t made any secret about his scorn for Loki -- I mean, some of it seems tongue-in-cheek but even if you start out kinda jokily throwing shade, there’s a good chance the joking vibe eventually turns serious. And if that was the general attitude on the set of Ragnarok, it couldn’t have been pleasant for Tom, even if he tried his best to go along with it.
To be clear, I actually enjoy Ragnarok (fun fact: it was the first movie I saw with Loki in it), and Taika did give Loki a chance to shine during the evacuation of Asgard, and gave the brothers a couple tender moments (BUT NO HUG WTF WE WERE ROBBED) -- but the emotion was rushed and undercut with jokes, the characters’ arcs were screwed up (Thor became a total jerkface tbh), plus Taika started the whole trend toward dumbass Thor and clownshoes Loki, for which I’ll never forgive him.
I thought it was interesting when Tom was talking about what’s next for Loki, and said something like “the audience wants to see him reconcile with his brother” (can’t find the link right now, but it was a recent interview or speech that came out after the series). I would think that much of the audience actually (and unfortunately) wants to see Loki reconcile with Sylvie, so Tom’s choice of words is quite ... revealing. It seems like he wants the brothers to have a true, heartfelt conclusion to their journey instead of the half-assed crap we got in Ragnarok. (I also suspect there has been some friction between the two actors, which Tom hopes to repair.) But will it happen?
Given that Hemsworth said that he only agreed to L&T bcs Taika was directing it, and given that Taika doesn’t seem to be interested in working with Loki/Tom, I don’t think there’s much hope that the Odinsons will team up again. Unless (and I know this is straight-up blasphemy but honestly I would be in favor of it) Thor was recast with an actor who’s better at drama and can hold his own against Hiddleston’s formidable talent. I mean, I liked Hemsworth as Thor, and honestly thought his acting was ok-ish, but he’s clearly more suited for comedy -- or for roles where he just has to run around and shoot at things. Which, you know, everyone needs to find their niche. It’s just too bad that Loki (and Tom) got fucked over in the process.

Tumblr users really need to stop hero-worshipping rich middle-aged straight men. Taika Waititi is not a gay icon. He's just another straight guy who likes the attention and adulation he can get from queer allyship. Men like him can't score edgy popularity points by playing disabled anymore (because the disabled community would rightly call them out for it) so playing gay is like their last chance to stay relevant. It's as transparent as it is embarrassing. (As is any queer fan who falls for it.)
Haha wow, anon hate- this is exciting. I’ll take the bait. You’re making a hell of a lot of offensive assumptions but let’s break down a few things.
1) I agree that nobody should be hero-worshipping rich straight men; I’m failing to see that making posts defending comments made by an indigenous (potentially queer) man have to do with that. Particularly given that I’ve stated I’ve literally only really started paying attention to Taika in the recent past and certainly don’t “hero worship” him.
2)Curious to know what you consider to be a gay icon- and who made you judge of what qualifies? Do you consider Madonna, Judy Garland, Cher etc to be any less of a gay icon because they aren’t lgbt? Because I’ve got news for you- a “gay icon” is generally considered to be someone who has amassed a large following within the gay community not necessarily someone who is gay but I digress. Sure this status is generally not self appointed but also if you can’t pick up on tongue in cheek humour or think that jokingly stating you are a gay icon is offensive umm you need to walk away from your computer for a bit and get some sunshine.
3) So if I’m reading this right you’re saying that unlike the disabled community gays are *checks notes* transparent and embarrassing…? I guess disabled queers are splitting themselves in 2 about whether or not they need to be embarrassing and ignorant or um…emotionally and intellectually superior to the rest of their communities??
Anyway being ableist and queerphobic (yes that’s you buddy- referring to queer people as too stupid to understand if they are being manipulated or not) is really an excellent way to prove that you’re someone with the authority to speak on such matters /s.
Anon I really urge you to think about how attitudes and comments like yours affect indigenous/poc members of the lgbtq+ community and people who are questioning their sexuality/on their own journeys of discovering their queerness.
I assure you- people like you are doing more harm to queer people and the queer community than any indigenous (potentially queer) man bringing queer stories to mainstream audiences ever will.

Hey there, umm I was just, y’know, making my way downtown, walking fast, as you do, and I suddenly wondered ‘hey, moo seems like someone with superior tv knowledge, I should ask moo if he has any movie/show recommendations’ and so here I am. Asking for movie and/or show recommendations. 👍
Babe you KNOW I be watchin tv (and movies)
This is gonna be a long post so I’ll make a Read under Cut to save your dash 🙏
Let's gooooo!
Movies first:
Swiss Army Man- R | Moo's rating: 10/10
This is my all time favorite movie. My comfort movie, if you will. Its WEIRD though. It has a lot of gross/surreal comedy, especially in the beginning so its not for everyone! Don't feel bad if you try to watch it and decide YIKES no thanks. Trust me, I understand lmao. But if you can make it through the gross stuff, I promise you a movie that is unlike any you've ever seen. I think its worth going into it completely blind but if you fancy watching the trailer, here it is:
Trailer
Paul Dano and Daniel Radcliffe are SPECTACULAR as the main characters and the soundtrack is hands down my FAVORITE movie soundtrack to date. I listen to it all the time in my free time because its that good. There are so many lessons on what it means to be alive, to be open so that others can understand and love all of you and it just GAH makes me cry every time.
Trigger warnings: suicide attempts, nudity (asscheeks), sexual humor, one of the characters is a corpse so uhhh whatever that trigger would be lol
Kimi no na wa/Your Name- PG | Moo's rating: 10/10
Amazing, spectacular, perfect, yes. This is my faaaavorite anime movie. The animation is mind blowing and paired with an OST by Radwimps???? Ahhhhh so gooood. This is the movie I share with my non-anime fan friends/family because its that gorgeous 😍 I cry EVERY time
Trailer
TW: dubious character death? Hmm I dunno how to warn about it without spoilers so just uhhh... death but like... not... death lmao
O Brother, Where Art Thou?- PG-13 | Moo's rating: 9.5/10
Based loosely on the Odyssey by Homer, this movie USED to be my all time favorite. I've seen it like a million times by now. Its a Coen Brothers film so OBVIOUSLY its a total banger. Its a funny, wild ride from start to finish with a FANTASTIC cast and another perfect OST.
Trailer
TW: Racism/ scenes involving the KKK, some animals are killed (cows and toad). As someone who is sensitive to animal death in movies, I'm not too bothered by the scenes so take that as you please
School of Rock- PG-13 | Moo's rating: 9.5/10
I mean.... I feel like I shouldn't even have to say anything about this one. If you haven't seen it then what're you doing??????? Go watch it!! Its literally Jack Black playing Jack Black, what more do you need?
Trailer
TW: nothing comes to mind tbh its just innocent fun
Kung-fu Hustle- PG-13 | Moo's rating: 9/10
This one ALSO used to be my favorite movie. Absolutely hilarious and great quality kung-fu action! Stephen Chow is a genius 🙏🙏🙏 (Shaolin Soccer is also good but Kung-fu Hustle is iconic 😘👌)
Trailer
TW: violence and minor character death, also a CG cat dies but its not graphic at all
Moulin Rouge- PG-13 | Moo's rating: 9/10
Obviously this movie is in my top list of fave movies. Great music, dynamo cast, beautiful setting and direction mwwwwah 😙🤌
Trailer
TW: major character death, sexual assault
Guns Akimbo- R | Moo's rating: 9/10
Talk about EXCITING. This movie is a RIDE. Daniel Radcliffe honestly might be one of my fave actors these days tbh because he fuckin rocks in this one too. Very very actiony and violent but there are some super cool and pretty shots and scenes like wow I love it and need to rewatch it
Trailer
TW: Graphic violence, blood, death, etc of that sort
Hunt for the Wilderpeople- PG-13 | Moo's rating: 8.5/10
Listen, I'm a big sucker for the "grizzled old man adopts child" trope AND Taika Waititi's brand of humor so this movie is just mwah chef's kiss. Its set in beautiful New Zealand so theres plenty to admire 😍 I was gonna rate it a 9/10 but there ARE a few parts that drag a tiny bit. Still though, it's spectacular and worth a watch for sure
Trailer
TW: minor character death, and one dog dies :(
50/50- R | Moo's rating: 8/10
Ahh this movie makes me EMOTE. Seth Rogen's role as Joseph Gordon-Levitt's best friend in this movie was SHOCKINGLY sweet and heartfelt. He’s literally such a good friend its crazy. Very good, very nice story about dealing with a tough ass situation 👌
Trailer
TW: sex, drug use (cannabis), cancer/hospitals/sickness
Honorable mentions (recs that I'm too lazy to talk about but are still good):
Secondhand Lions
Palm Springs
Ready or Not
Wild Target
Monster in Law (HUSH I just think its funny)
Airplane
My Big Fat Greek Wedding
Jesus Christ Superstar
Ocean's Eleven (12 and 13 are also good)
Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure (Bogus Journey is great as well)
🖤
Now for TV!
I'm gonna split these up in 2 categories: Live action and animation, because I watch a lot of both 👌
First, Live Action:
The Good Place- TV-PG | Moo's rating: 10/10
You KNOW imma always recommend this show its perfect and I rewatch it ALL the time. AMAZING ensemble cast with a ton of chemistry, hilarious, heartfelt, ugh its just fantastic in every way. Its also such a treat to look at like mmmm Ted Danson, Manny Jacinto, William Jackson Harper, Kristen Bell- LITERALLY ALL OF THEM CMON
TW: none? I mean, i would say death but its about the afterlife so thats kind of a given, ya know? So uhh just some sexual stuff and like... alcohol? Less of trigger warning and more of a content warning i guess
The Nanny: TV-PG | Moo's rating: 9.5/10
This show awakened some things in me as a kid, yo. Fran is a fashion icon, I was literally IN LOVE with her back then. Still am tbh.
TW: its pretty innocent, some sexual content of course but thats about it
Malcolm in the Middle- TV-PG | Moo's rating: 9/10
I've lost track of how many times I've rewatched this banger. Its wildly entertaining and depicts a family that loves just as hard as they fight GAH the cast is so quirky and the moments when they come together for a common goal (especially when they defend Lois???) is just so sweet. 🥰 its also surprisingly progressive! There's an episode where both Malcolm and Reese think the other one is gay and it genuinely made me so soft how they were trying so hard to be supportive agsgshdgsh I love it (also Hal is Bryan Cranston's best role ever, no competition. Everyone deserves a husband like Hal)
TW: some rough family situations, military school
My Name is Earl- TV-PG | Moo's rating: 9/10
This show would be a 10/10 if it didn't get canceled and also have that weird coma stuff in season 3. Even with that though, this show is amazing. Soooo funny and full of super sweet life lessons. Its genuinely heartwarming to watch Earl learn lessons and navigate his new way of life 🖤
TW: crime, violence, infidelity, sexual content
Raising Hope- TV-PG | Moo's rating: 8.5/10
SO CUTE CUTE CUTE. Single father and cute daughter?????? You KNOW im all for that shit!!! Gah this show is adorable and sweet as friggin syrup
TW: violence
3rd Rock from the Sun: TV-PG | Moo's rating: 8/10
I love me a "fish outta water" premise man hnnn I used to watch this show every day after school its great. I was in LOVE with Sally. Oof long legs extreme help 🥵 (wow this has become a thirst list)
TW: sexual themes
Good Girls- TV-14 | Moo's rating: 7.5/10
Like watching women commit crimes? Then this is the show for you! Honestly this show is just fun. And the soundtrack is BANGING
TW: crime, violence
Dead to Me- TV-MA | Moo's rating: 7/10
Christina Applegate is SO GOOD in this show. And paired with Linda Cardellini???? 😙👌 honestly if I was rating the first season alone, I would rate it a 9/10 but the second season brought it down a little. The characters and their relationships are so complex, its so consuming 🙏 (also bi representation wassup)
TW: sexual content, death, grief, recreational drug use
Okay let's move on to animated shows 👍
Bojack Horseman- TV-MA | Moo's rating: 10/10
This is SUPERIOR writing. I dont even know how to talk about this show because it has EVERYTHING. Its socially conscious, hilarious, dark, depressing, hopeful, EVERYTHING. I never expected to connect to or be affected by this show the way I have been. The characters are deep and all go through their own personal arcs throughout the 6 seasons and it is honestly the first show I've seen to accurately depict SO MANY THINGS. Stuff like depression and ptsd and addiction and the strain fame puts on people, especially young people GEE IM GETTING EMOTIONAL ALL OVER AGAIN. Anyway, its amazing, ill stop now
TW: all of them. All the triggers. Well maybe not all of them. There's a lot of substance abuse and addiction and driving under the influence. Character death, violence, real world issues like gun control and sexism... its pretty chock full of stressors, so if you're someone who is sensitive to that kinda thing, make sure to look up a complete list of trigger warnings before watching! 🖤
Bob's Burgers- TV-PG | Moo's rating: 10/10
I probably don't need to explain why this is here. Great original music, fun characters, life lessons. Its the best, the end
TW: nothing comes to mind 🤔
King of the Hill- TV-PG | Moo’s rating: 10/10
I do a rewatch of this classic at least once a year.
I always tell people that Bob from Bob’s Burgers is my ideal of a perfect (white cis male) Democrat and Hank from King of the Hill is my ideal of a perfect (white cis male) Republican and I’m so so right. Hank is so conservative in his attitude about literally EVERYTHING, but not in the horrible Confederate flag waving, woman hating way. He’s a reserved, private guy who constantly LEARNS and GROWS, and is always open to other people’s lifestyles, even if he doesn’t understand it or if it makes him uncomfortable.
This show tackles a wide variety of people and topics and never fails to make it funny AND sweet. There are times when Hank can be bullheaded and infuriating but he always comes around to make the right decision by the end of the episode 🥰 He also reminds me SO MUCH of my dad. Literally his mannerisms, his voice, the way he says “Whhat?” when he’s shocked... it’s just my dad in cartoon form, I swear lmao
TW: republicans, guns, depression, Hank’s dad is abusive af (though he does have moments of sweetness)
The Amazing World of Gumball- TV-Y7-FV | Moo’s rating: 10/10
This show NEVER gets old. When I just wanna watch a quick something while I eat lunch or if none of my other shows are doing it for me, this is my go-to. It’s a kids show so it’s definitely more lighthearted than the others but it’s straight up HILARIOUS and has some adult jokes sprinkled in here and there.
On top of that, they use a huge mix of animation types. From 2D to CG to claymation to puppetry WOW it’s so cool
TW: cartoon violence
Futurama- TV-14 | Moo’s rating: 9/10
Maybe I’m just simple but this show is just laugh after laugh after laugh. So witty and quick. It’s another one that I rewatch constantly. (honestly all of these shows are 🤷‍♂️)
TW: violence, sex, drugs/alcohol
Archer- TV-MA | Moo’s rating: 8.5/10
Like Bojack, this one is very mature and not for everyone. It’s one of those shows (like It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) that has a full cast of degenerates and bastards. Archer is an alcoholic douchebag, Mallory is a greedy bitch, Cheryl is clinically insane, Cyril is a whiny sex addict, Pam is an obnoxious pervert, Lana is a naggy wet blanket, Kreiger is a mad scientist, Ray is gay.
But it’s funny as fuck. It’s definitely one of those things where you’re like “oh no i can’t believe I’m laughing at this” but man I just love it. The dialogue is FANTASTIC and the wacky shenanigans they get into is always entertaining. If adult humor is something you’re into then this one is perfect 👌
Pam is my fave 🙏
TW: uhhh everything again. lots of violence and death, sex, drugs/alcohol, addiction, just straight up terrible human beings doing terrible things
The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack- TV-Y7-FV | Moo’s rating: 8/10
Another cartoon for kids that I got endless joy from as an adult. It’s weird af and sometimes disgusting but the brand of humor is RIGHT up my alley. I dunno how to explain it, just give it a watch
TW: gross-out gags, cartoon violence
Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts- TV-Y7 | Moo’s rating: 8/10
Want to see some representation? Watch Kipo! The three main characters are POC and one is gay! The animation for this show is so nice and pretty too 😙👌 And the soundtrack??? Yes. Spectacular.
I would rate it higher but it felt a little short 🤔 even though it has 3 seasons, once it finished I felt like there should have been more.
TW: cartoon violence, some dark themes
Hilda- TV-Y7 | Moo’s rating: 7/10
This one is just nice and wistful and cute. Little adventures in a magical world of trolls and witches and other interesting mythical creatures.
TW: none 🖤
okay okay i’ll stop there because this post is already super long. Some of these titles might seem really obvious because they’ve been around for a while or they’re just wildly popular but if you haven’t seen them then this is your reminder to watch them!
Hope you find something you like from this list 🥰🥰

Marvel Part 3
This is the biggest chunk of the films by a bit, and a lot happens in here. I think there are four origin stories, and there’s even a sequel to one of those origins within the same group. A LOT happens, and in general things have been settled into a comfortable formula. And yet here we have some new directors, a lot of new characters, and some new takes on old favorites. Now that the MCU is so established, it seems people were more comfortable taking risks with these stories, and I think it pays off in audience satisfaction. Also, yes, we did watch seven movies in two days. What can I say? We’re good kids staying locked down.

Ant-Man – Peyton Reed, 2015
I’m very disappointed that this could have been an Edgar Wright movie. It comes so close, with the way Luis tells his stories and the structure of the final battle between the two tiny men. And yet it is definitely not Edgar Wright. It’s a pretty basic superhero origin story. That being said, Paul Rudd is a national treasure and absolutely carries this film. He is a delight to watch as the funny, clever lead, as he always is. He was made to be a quippy genius in a cool suit. Okay, that makes him sound like Iron Man. In a way, Ant-Man is Iron Man Lite. He’s not rich, he’s just an everyday guy. He is an engineer, but maybe not a genius. Most importantly, he’s genuinely funny, not rude, and he cares about his family. I do think the characterizations are what make this movie compelling, not the plot. It ties in very nicely to Civil War, and I enjoyed watching it directly before the epic crossover event. Having light-hearted characters with less worldly stakes keeps the MCU grounded and keeps superheroes from being too out of touch.
Tumblr media
Captain America: Civil War – Joe and Anthony Russo, 2016
I hesitate to say this, but I think this might be my favorite movie in the MCU. I can’t quite put my finger on why, because there are certainly more epic team-ups, and I hate when friends fight. And yet, I still love this film. One, you get Hawkeye in a non-Avengers event, which is always terribly exciting. Two, you get the character intros of some of the best characters ever (Spider-Man and Black Panther). And three, you get an intense debate about morals that actually gives you something to talk about after you leave the theater. It feels rare to have a superhero movie that doesn’t have morals hitting you over the head with righteousness and love. This movie really makes you think about control and consequences. And I love a movie that makes you think. I’m also slightly biased because I had a great premiere experience, I got to see an early screening and the exclusivity made it more exciting too. It pulls on a lot of existing threads within the MCU and brings the conflict to a head in a spectacular way.

Tumblr media
Spider-Man: Homecoming – Jon Watts, 2017
The stand-out role in Civil War, seeing Spider-Man on the big screen under Disney’s purview was certainly a treat. I appreciate that they didn’t go for yet another Peter Parker origin story, instead jumping in after he’s already become Spider-Man. We all know the story of the radioactive spider bite by now, so getting to see Spider-Man grow as a friendly neighborhood guy is delightful. It’s a high school coming-of-age movie that happens to feature superheroes. The stakes are brought down to a relatable level. Asking out the girl he likes is just as important as catching the bad guy, perhaps even more so. Tom Holland is the absolutely perfect casting choice, capturing both being an awkward teenager and being a web-slinging badass. And Tony Stark gets the opportunity to right his wrongs and step up to be a father figure for someone who desperately needs one. I do wish we got to focus on Peter’s story a little more, instead of using him as a pawn to fulfill Tony’s character arc. But that’s a small criticism for an otherwise lovely movie.

Black Panther – Ryan Coogler, 2018
Black Panther rocked the world when it came out, and rightfully so. Here we have a Black superhero who brings a respectful version of African traditions to the big screen. The worldbuilding of Wakanda is spectacular, showing that this hidden nation knows more about technology than anyone else in the world. It flies in the face of negative stereotypes about African peoples and blends aspects of tribalism in without making them feel like tokens. I think I like the Dora Milaje the best, the squad of women warriors who protect the king. They are so strong and beautiful with their shaved heads and spears and I love them. After Black Panther’s introduction in Civil War, it was nice to go into this movie and see what he dealt with in the weeks after his father’s death. Once again, seeing things in chronological order helped clarify any confusion I had about the timeline of things when they came out months apart in theaters. T’Challa had a really rough couple of weeks in there. Oh, and Michael B. Jordan is also excellent in his role as Killmonger. It’s a great movie for so many reasons.

Doctor Strange – Scott Derrickson, 2016
I feel like a lot of people don’t like this movie. It is true that Doctor Strange is a little bit like a discount Tony Stark, a man who thinks the rest of the world is below him because of his superior intellect. At least this movie has the decency to break him down to nothing before giving him ridiculous superpowers that serve to reaffirm that belief. I think this movie is fine. It’s definitely one of the more visually arresting films, which I always appreciate. On visuals alone, I’d pick this over something like Ant-Man or Thor 2. The concept is also relatively cool, making it seem like wizardry can be learned by anybody. However, it does feel out of place in the timeline. We’re getting close to the end of the line here, and all this movie does for the overarching plot is introduce the Time Stone. But while I think it’s a perfectly passable origin story, it doesn’t make sense here at this point in Phase 3 of the MCU. Plus Marvel didn’t really need another overpowered quippy white man. Again, this is a fun movie to watch, but for the first time in awhile, this is better on its own than in sequence.

Thor: Ragnarok – Taika Waititi, 2017
Taika Waititi is a creative genius and should be allowed to take over the entire film industry. What We Do in the Shadows is one of my favorite movies of all time and I’m so glad that he is now on the map and taking over the Thor franchise going forward. He took the goofy Thor we all know and love and turned up the humor without compromising character, adding in nods to the previous movies and the fans without offending anybody. To say nothing of Korg, arguably one of the best side characters we’ve seen in the MCU thus far. After seeing it for the first time on my birthday, my brother announced upon leaving the theater that this was his new favorite MCU movie. I do think that this ranks pretty highly for me. It makes Thor fun again. Plus it’s just a really good movie. Like it features characters we already know, and then uses characteristics we haven’t seen before to make them well-rounded and more interesting to watch. And it’s stylistically very well done too! The scene with Thor using his lightning and the flashback with the Valkyries and the fight on the rainbow bridge... It’s all so good. And I haven’t even mentioned Jeff Goldblum. There’s a very good reason my brother likes this movie so much. It’s because it’s excellent.
Tumblr media
Ant-Man and the Wasp – Peyton Reed, 2018
Now, Thor: Ragnarok leads directly into Infinity War, so I do sort of wish we’d gone into that next. But it was more important for us to watch Infinity War and Endgame back to back, so we decided to throw the Ant-Man sequel in here. This movie is about what Ant-Man and his friends were up to immediately before the events of Infinity War, maybe even during, because he wasn’t in that movie. And it sets up some VERY important plot points for Endgame. It makes a lot of sense to release these in the order they did. This is still an okay movie, but it ultimately feels like filler. Which is a shame, because these are good characters. Paul Rudd is still a delight, and so is the supporting cast of thieves. At the end of the day, it does feel necessary to watch this movie at some point so that the other ones make sense, but it also doesn’t feel like it has much impact on its own. The villain is interesting enough, the dialogue is still snappy, but the most impactful part of the film is the end credits scene when you see the Pym family get dusted. It’s a preview of what’s to come, even more haunting if you know it’s coming. But the part of the movie that makes you sit up and pay attention should not be hidden away in the credits.

question!! do you imagine boba looking like he is supposed to canonly or do you have a fave under there you personally imagine? im so in love w boba but canon looks just dont do it for me i will never not be upset about it 😢
oooooh
i could 100% go with younger temuera morrison!! i.e. look him up in barb wire, mans can GET IT - plus there’s the moral superiority of knowing that he’s canon ehehehe
i think bob morely is also a popular choice? which i personally vibe with - he’s pretty!!! and i can picture boba-esque expressions on him!! never seen the 100 before but mans can ALSO get it
but a lot of people think that a boba faceclaim/fancast should be maori too, which is fair
in which case - daniel logan! the guy who actually played bby boba in the prequels!! he looks NICE and right now he’s round about the age for original trilogy boba? maybe a little younger? either way he’s cute
also uh... taika waititi.... listen it’s not random kjsdhfkjdf it’s based on this art and it lives in my mind rent free. taika!boba is definitely a fave :))))
and sometimes i don’t have a particular face in mind? it’s like reading a book character - you know their features, and your brain just kinda pieces it together on its own :) it helps a lot when i’m picturing expressions, too.
sjfsjkdhf anon i feel you, we didn’t choose to simp for a man who never shows his face and only had like 4 original lines 😔✌️ every day is a struggle

i was chilling browsing my old bookmarks on ao3. saw a science bros fic. started thinking about how unfair it is we didn't get any content in endgame. ACTUALLY it is also super unfair that tony and bruce didn't get to spend much time together post ragnarok?? tony never knew bruce was in his clothes etcetc, they got 1 hug, and then nothing else in iw or endgame CAN MORGAN MEET BRUCE/HULK EVEN THO HE'D BE TERRIFIED OF HURTING HER BUT SHE'S LIKE BBY TONY WHO LOVES BRUCE IMSTANTLY AND MELTS HIM !!!
..... SO REAL ANON SO FUCKING REAL but that said science bros was still the fucking superior ship of the mcu after antman/being relatable and NO ONE TAKES THAT FROM US, that said the unused potential from ragnarok is still a fucking waste and I’ll just bless taika waititi for giving me all of that science bros material even if tony wasn’t in the movie lkgjsjlkdkgljslkjd
;///////; MORGAN SHOULD OFC MEET BRUCE TT

Hello!! Just wanted to ask, what do you think about Finkeldorf?? Danke ✌️❤️
Such a small question, but such a complicated one ! I have so much things to say about them I love them so much ♥️
First of all, they are much more than a ship, they are their own persons and boi, I love both. So I think I'll answer what I think of the characters, and of the pairing.
The pairing is AMAZING. They've known each other for so long, they trust each other so much : you can just feel Finkel would do anything to please K, but in an absolutely non toxic way despite K being his superior. He is just super supportive and admirative all the time ! K on the other hand looks very protective with his Finkie ahah which is understandable. He is so adorable, just imagining someone like Freddy being hurt must be unbearable (for me it is 😭). And let's be real : having such a supportive, cute, young boyfriend, I wouldn't want to share him and I would protect him at all costs too ! And I think Taika Waititi did a great job convey all of it in the film, without making it too obvious (because at the time you had to hide it) but on the contrary: making it subtle but beautiful. It's the only long term relationship exposed in it, and it's not even pointed out. Its just there because that is how it is. And that's great lgbt representation : that's just life : they aren't treated any different from hetero characters. Being gay isn't their main trait, it's not only there to serve comic purposes, but it is also there for the plot (for captain K's character and for his relationship with Jojo; I will talk about it later ;) )
So yeah I love them, and the film just reminded me of how it was, being bullied for years for being "a lesbian" (which I am not but you know for some ppl bisexuality is hard to understand) "the bisexual slut who wants to have sex with everyone" and all the slut shaming that came with it. It reminded me of how unfair the whole situation was, of how vulnerable I was, it reminded me of why I've been an active lgbt suppoter for years. And you know, I tend to actually forget how cruel can ppl be sometimes, because it's been two years since I am in humanities in prepschool, half of my friends are bi, the other half are gay and lesbian, I am accepted by my family and my friends, and I have a gf. It's almost like everything is perfect and nothing bad happens to us. But it's not true, and as much as it is crucial we enjoy all the good things that happen to us in life, we must remember some lgbt ppl didn't have that chance and some still don't have it. Some lgbt ppl are still harrassed/arrested/killed everywhere in the world in every country. And Finkeldorf just reminded me that I needed not to forget about it. That I should still fight for my rights, for the rights of every single lgbt person.
Oh and a ww2 gay pairing: my historian brain just loved it xD
Ok. Wow that escalated I am sorry x)
As for the characters.
Freddy Finkel. I absolutely love him with all my heart and that's not even because he is portrayed by the best actor alive. (And the most handsome by the way. ) He is so precious. Maybe he is a little dumb (mostly for comic effects x) ) but he wants to do thing good so bad, almost like he is searching for approval. And surely K gives him all the approval he needs and that's awesome (cause K makes him feel like he isn't that stupid). You can also tell how he is always so enthusiastic and cheerful all the time : he is young and he wants to enjoy life ! And that makes perfect sense that he ends up with someone as desillusioned and sarcastic as K. I think K needs that a lot actually x). Must be refreshing and comforting. Finkel is adorable. Just as Alfie said : he ends up in this situation because of wrong circumstances. He surely does not want to be a soldier, and obviously does not want to be any part of the nazi system: he surely is in the army because it was mandatory, or even before it was mandatory because he wanted to be with K. Just as Alfie said : he is just in love. That's all. Just like a lot of regular soldiers, he must go on and do as he is told, so he can survive with the love of his life. Great life eh ?... :( I don't know if he is part of any group of resistance and I would say no for two reasons. 1) Finkel is loud, dumb and awkward. Not a great idea. 2) I am sure K would not want him to be. He would like to handle things on his own and be sure Finkel is safe. And I am sure Finkel would feel bad for it but would agree with him.
I would never call him a bad person.
Ok Klenzendorf now. There are so many things to say. Sam Rockwell first shall we ? Sam Rockwell is amazing in this role. He just fits perfectly. I have watched a lot of movies with him before and I always loved his part the best in those movies. But in Jojo Rabbit. Omg I was like Pikachu on that meme : :O !! I was gagging !!! (Just ask my gf). He was awesome and the character is PERFECT. Far more complex than Finkel of course, because he is a crucial character of the film. (And a fan favorite of course). He isn't black or white. He isn't a nazi, in the sense that he doesn't believe in this ideology at ALL. That's why he doesn't take his job seriously : that's a fucking rebel and you can't tell me I am wrong. He surely is in the army since WW1. So again : it wasn't his direct choice to be in the german army. But we can tell he likes his job : he likes being a soldier, that was a choice he made before Hitler. But he was let down by this system : all the clubs he used to go to were destroyed, he suddenly could go to KZ because he was gay, his boyfriend could go to KZ because of something he would say or do, his eye lost he couldn't even be seen as valuable by this same system...just imagine seeing the Germany you fought for crumble and fall around you. Being someone and then BOOM being nothing to your country. worst : being someone your country doesn't want at all! Yes that's fucking horrible. And in the film there are evidences that he fights against this system that let him down: the fact that he knows Rosie (who is in a group of resistants) and she HITS him and he says nothing ! That's just like the biggest clue : they are in the same group. X) Rosie's bikes and the gestapo scene when he helps Elsa and Jojo and how he saves Jojo at the end. So yeah surely a resistant. And... he can't to anything else. He can't refuse a mission as a soldier : it would make him in danger, and what he does could make FINKEL in danger too. And if you had to obey to save yourself and your lover I know a lot of ppl out there would do the same. He even tries to convince Jojo to stop thinking about jews, he tries to change his mind ! So he is a complex character and he shouldn't even be a controversial character in the first place. Any sane ppl who watch the film and knows its history should think that way. He isn't the best person, but he is a good person, even if he surely loathes himself for the things he has done. I love him so much!!
There :D thx for the ask.

Why What We Do in the Shadows is the Best Modern Vampire Movie -  07/20/2020
There have been many vampire movies made in the history of cinema. One of the most famous early iconic films of cinema is Nosferatu, made in 1917, which is amongst the earliest adaptations of Bram Stoker’s Dracula novel. The first truly groundbreaking and mainstream cinematic adaptation of his work though would occur in 1931 with the release of Dracula, by Universal Pictures and starring the great Bela Lugosi. This movie would kick off the Universal cinematic universe of monsters, as well as go on to inspire many other great vampire movies throughout the 20th Century.
After the turn of the millennium, truly great vampire movies started to become a rare and dying breed of film. There have been a few stand outs, but not many that have broken through to become a mainstream success like the great vampire movies of old. And no, Twilight does not count. Real vampire movies have since become mostly old fashioned and dropped out of the mainstream public consciousness. To bring the vampire back into the mainstream, it would take a vampire movie to be released that would bring a more modern sensibility and lore to vampires than from what had come before. Fortunately, such a movie would be released in 2014. That movie is What We Do in the Shadows.
Filmed in New Zealand and co-directed by the great Taika Waititi, What We Do in the Shadows is a truly inspired piece of filmmaking. Seen through the lens of a documentary film crew, the movie explores the life of a group of old and ancient vampire roommates all living together in modern day New Zealand. Each vampire has their own distinct personality and characteristics, and we get to see how they all try to learn how best to live with one another. Also, each of the main vampires represent a vampire from a previous famous vampire movie: Petyr’s appearance is similar to Count Orlok from Nosferatu, Deacon is punkish like one of the vampires in The Lost Boys, Vladislav is comparable to Gary Oldman's Dracula, Nick is reminiscent of Edward from Twilight, and Viago is like Louis from Interview with the Vampire.
Having the group of vampires representing earlier vampires of cinema gives the movie a sense of respect and even a celebration of the genre itself, all while telling its own story in a more modern setting. What We Do in the Shadows is clearly inspired by the television series The Office, which made the mockumentary a mainstream style of filmmaking and storytelling. Having a mockumentary based around a group of modern-day vampires was a brilliant choice, and it makes What We Do in the Shadows stand out more than any other modern vampire movie.
The movie even pays tribute to the age-old storytelling rivalry between vampires and werewolves. A rivalry made quite popular in the more recent Underworld and Twilight films. One of the most memorable scenes in the movie has the group of vampires meeting and confronting a pack of werewolves. They then proceed to smack talk each other like a group of children. This is one of the most entertaining moments in the film, and including supernatural creatures other than just vampires make the movie part of more fun world than just regular vampire movies.
These vampires also expand upon the concept of the human familiar most noticeably seen in the Blade films. The vampires have a human serve them as a type of butler or maid during the day and to help clean up after their victims, and in return they promise to eventually turn the familiar into becoming a vampire themselves. This plays like a metaphor of having your boss offer you a sweet promotion if you just work hard enough while doing everything that they say. We can even see their familiar Jackie get upset when someone else essentially gets that promotion when Nick gets turned into a vampire by Petyr.
Nick getting turned then gives us a story about what it’s like becoming a vampire in this world. A vampire in this world can’t eat human food, otherwise they’ll uncontrollably start to projectile vomit. These vampires can also fly and turn into bats if they wish. Many of the classic vampire tropes are used in this film, and every vampire is shown to also be capable of hypnosis. Even vampire hunters are real in this world, and Nick makes the mistake of unknowingly revealing that he is a vampire to one while trying to be cool.
This mistake will cost the vampires, as the vampire hunter tries to slay the vampires at their home, and this leads to the death of Petyr by sunlight. We then get a pretty comical scene of the police coming to investigate. The vampires use their hypnosis to make the human cops see only what they want them to see, and it makes for a pretty amusing scene. When it comes to human characters though, perhaps the most memorable one is their go-to computer guy, Stu.
Stu is probably to most normal and simple guy you can think of. He works in IT and the vampires have him help connect them to the outside world through the internet. Having the vampires learn how to use the internet for the first time is pretty damn hilarious. The eBay and Facebook jokes are some of the best in the movie. What’s really great about Stu is just how much the vampires grow to become fond of him. He quickly becomes their favorite human, and even go so far as to protect him from other vampires when they find out that he is most likely a virgin.
Having the vampires crave virgin blood more in humans is just another great use of a classic vampire trope. This movie is so well thought out in using the overall history of vampires in movies, and then using that history to craft its own narrative and story. That of vampires learning how to live together in the modern world. The concept of this film is so solid, that it even inspired a continuation of this world in a recent television adaptation.
The television series follows a documentary crew following another group of vampires in Staten Island, and it has to be my favorite show on TV right now. Most people are always weary of new adaptations or shows of great movies, but this show delivers and expands on the universe that the movie created in such a way that I believe it to be just as good, if not superior to the movie itself. It even has the vampires from the movie make cameos in a few of the episodes. The great success of the show just creates further proof that the movie has had the greatest impact on the vampire genre in the new millennium.
The great writing and production of What We Do in the Shadows has solidified itself as one of the new modern classics of the vampire genre. Its success will no doubt go on to inspire the next great generation of vampire movies. As an avid vampire fan, myself, I am greatly looking forward to what those movies will be, and when they will arrive. Until then, I have no doubt that What We Do in the Shadows will currently go on to widely be considered as the absolute best modern vampire movie.

sexuality troubles.
i’m so fucking confused. being non-binary/trans makes everything so fucking hard. i don’t know where i fit... anywhere on the sexuality spectrum. i have no idea if all of my attraction to men is real or if i’m forcing it on myself bc im afab. i don’t know if i’m bi. ive always wanted to be attractive to men ever since i was small i think as a coping mechanism because of trauma. but i’m also extremely scared of older men, even if i do find celebrities attractive. but a lot of male celebrities i straight up DONT find attractive at all, they’re like cardboard to me. i don’t know if that’s because i think a lot of hollywood white men hearththrobs look extremely bland/the same bc white society or if there’s something genuinely off with my attraction to men meter. ive heard people say that not being able to process whether a man is attractive or not is a lesbian thing. but i don’t feel like a lesbian. i don’t feel female. i love women, i have always known that, but i don’t feel like a woman and i don’t want to be a woman. i want to look masculine. i want to be masculine. i don’t want to be a girl anymore. i don’t want to be a man, completely, i just want to be.... not a woman. not a man. a nothing.
is it a preference or am i only attracted to women?? i loved being bi. i love the flag i love the options, and i don’t really process people’s gender’s except on a social level. ive never been close with ANY boys across my life, or even more than acquaintances because of my shy and reserved nature and i’ve never connected with any on a personal level both because of fear, being flustered, and feeling like they’re cooler and more superior to be and genuinely a different species so to say, so i don’t know if that has to do with my fear of being sexually involved with them. i’m always afraid men want the worst from me, and i always get the feeling that they are judging me based on my attractiveness to them and discard me mentally as soon as i am not and i hate that so much. i think because i’ve never known a boy truly and deeply, i keep prejudices against them and don’t think that they are as compassionate or HUMAN as non-men. but at the same time, i’ve always felt called to get self worth from their attraction to me. literally since pre-elementary. even if i think a guy is ugly i still base my worth off of if he’s attracted to me?? it’s automatic, and fucked up. i’m scared to go further than flirt with a boy. i’m scared to mess up conversationally , i’m scared of entering a relationship with one especially because i’d be the “woman” in it, and i don’t want to be fucked like a man fucks a woman. i want a queer man so i can feel safe and normal around him. straight men are an enigma to me. they scare me so much with their lack of societal awareness and cruelty. i feel like they don’t GET IT you know? but if i ever was to date one, since i’m pre transition and in the closet i’d have to pretend to be a woman and pretend to be okay with that. the idea of a man taking me like i was a woman makes me want to hurl.... that’s not the relationship dynamic i want at all.
all of my emotions toward men are so fucking conflicting. ive dreamed of kissing men before, fantasized about being soft with them, holding their hand, cupping their face and kissing them gently, but if they’re an irl i never fantasize about what they would be like sexually, land the idea kind of off puts/repulses me in a way. thinking of my irl women crushes kind of makes me feel the same way, but i’m more open to the possibility of that? ive never had a relationship with a man and only probably had like 1 male friend across my entire life, so my fear could be because of trauma + fear of the unknown + bc of my prejudices bc of my lack of experience + dysphoria. meanwhile, i’ve had 1 girlfriend and all of my friends have been female my whole life. ive just NEVER been comfortable around boys/men. which i feel like is less indicative of lesbianism and more of like. trauma haha. i sexualized myself at such a young age to cater to the boys around me and even to the adult men around me, it hurts to think about. i hate how trauma complicates everything. i don’t know why i have that impulse, i don’t know why it started. ive just never felt safe around a boy. i feel like they always want something from me. ive been attracted to them but i’m soo scared o f them. like, i always have something to prove, whether it be my personality or humor or attractiveness, just to stay in their presence.
nsfw incoming.
ive tried to jack off to a lot of gay porn and i think my men attraction meter is broken because so many of the men in gay porn are ugly/unattractive to me. straight up. in their face, and body. and the body ideals in the gay community, where i would fit in post transition, don’t.... resonate with me. like not to be crude but a lot of the body types of the men in here are unattractive to me, but then again it’s white dominated and caters to a very specific vision of a huge bubble butt, way huge thighs, overly ripped chest, bland ass white boy faces paired with ugly haircuts. is this what i’m supposed to be attracted to? the men i’ve been attracted to irl do not look like that. the men in gay porn are all so passionless too. (which is honestly an issue i have that makes jacking off to women in porn sort of difficult too??) i don’t know. i don’t feel like i’m attracted to men the same way gay men are. but then again, how would i know that? i don’t know any actual gay men. i just know from some porn blogs? some pornhub videos? i don’t fucking know. i jack off to images/videos of men very few times compared to how much i get off to women bc of my particularity . it’s more difficult, but it’s easier by when i think about how the man feels, like his pleasure, his sounds, his expressions, rather than the aesthetics of it all. not to say i don’t appreciate the aesthetics of some nice men- chris evans, frank ocean, rob mcelhenney, taika waititi, nice. which sounds like a very non-lesbian thing to say i would think, but i know a ton of lesbians who talk about celebrity men super raunchily and stuff, so i don’t know anymore and i don’t think i know enough about lesbianism to know whether these are lesbian experiences or not. the majority of men content ive jacked off to has been gay fan fiction, and that has actually been easy to get off to bc of the descriptions and the i can visualize characters and passion the way i want. it’s harder to do it with actual videos/images of men, because it’s so different in my mind and imagination m, but that may be bc gay porn can involve a lot of roughness/impersonal-ness? also i feel like i still have a certain degree of internalized homophobia toward both wlw AND mlm despite working through my acceptance of my sexuality for a number of years.
i just want a person. but i don’t know if it’s beyond my control who i’m sexually attracted to. my sexual attraction to men is a lot lower than to women, and it’s a lot easier for me to make them bland in my head and not be able to point out a unique thing about them . i feel like girls are more... distinct/easily alluring to me than most men you know. that may also be affected by how women actually know how to dress and look unique and men don’t really shift from 1 bland societal style, i don’t know. i don’t know. i want to be attracted to men. as a transmasc, i want to be gay. i don’t want to be straight. ive been gay all my life, and i don’t want to leave that label. i want softness and love. but men scare me, and i don’t know if it’s because of a tragic coalescence of bad life experiences (or lack thereof) or because of genuine lesbianism. ive talked so much about being bi, and even been called a confused lesbian before by transphobes, and ever since they said it i cant stop questioning. i feel like at this point i HAVE to be a lesbian or something, bc that’s how this shit goes in movies and stories. i don’t want to be a lesbian. i want to be attracted to men, i wanna be bi and be equally attracted to both, i want experiences with both in my mind, but irl i get so fucking scared and i don’t want anything to do with it. i don’t wanna be a straight transmasc and i also don’t want to become what transphobes have spent their time telling me i am. i want to be what i’ve always thought i’ve been, bisexual and transmasc. i was comfortable with bisexual, until everybody else kept telling me to question and it’s been eating me alive since. fuck. i don’t know anything. is this a preference and bad combination of a huge number of deeper factors or am i straight up NATURALLY not attracted to men? have i been lying to mhself? have all my attractions in the past been fake? this is gonna sound terrible but i don’t want to be a lesbian. it doesn’t feel right. and id be proving the horrible people right, and have to retract everything i’ve ever said about being bi to my following on my other social media. and i’ve said a LOT. and i’d also have to give up my admiration of my irl men crushes and male celebrities and their sexiness. all of this shit is so ridiculous but at least i’m being honest with myself with this post. someone help me haha

that is very understandable and also i'm very interested in what you'll think of the movie. the only way i can explain it is with i just don't vibe with them 😅 which seems like a shitty explanation but they all just really don't give me the same vibe as book poirot 🙈 her biography is really so interesting she had such a fascinating life like she went on archaeological expeditions with her second husband and the way she grew up was so interesting to me too (pt 1)
(pt 2) LISTEN I LOVE THAT EPISODE just alone for the poison scene and i adore donna so much and 10 too (i mean i even have a 10 funko i love him so much) & yes i was convinced so that was such a stressful thing to go through but it also meant natashas death caught me off guard which eh was not nice either 😅 oh yeees and again with taika waititi so like it's gotta be good
(pt 3) SAME tom holland's spidey is just superior (i've had many fights about this so i'm glad you agree) WHAT you haven't written one bad word for the holyverse (or in general for that matter - the only bad thing you ever did was not finish the office and the train buddy au) everything in there is top tier and i'm actually gonna reread it now bc i really need the comfort today 🙈 -spoiler twin
SJKFNSJDF no thats valid sometimes things just dont pass the vibe check and thats a sign from god truly ALSO i’m very excited to check that out thank u for the recommendation (and also for the murder mystery ones xo)
RIGHT I KNOW!! omg listen...i have so many doctor who THOUGHTS but my main one which is possibly consensus opinion is that 10 is the superior doctor and donna is the superior companion. slightly more controversial opinion i couldnt stand rose and i was so glad when she left. ALSO AGREED i really wasnt expecting her to die i was like UHHH HELLO??? they really did her dirty with that one smh she deserved better
YES!! i saw a post which summed it up for me which said andrew garfield was a good spiderman and tobey maguire was a good peter parker but tom holland is good at both and i was like hmm...agreed

I hate when I follow a post to an OP’s blog and think they seem cool and I might follow them and then there’s something so exceedingly pro Taika Waititi and Anti Anti Taika Waititi that I’m just like, oh. And then I go through the notes and it’s nothing but bashing Loki stans for not worshipping at the altar of Taika Waititi and I just -
People can obviously have their opinions. I don’t care if you like Taika Waititi, that’s great. I’m glad the movie was enjoyable for you. But if you can’t express that without tearing down the people who are critical of them, then I won’t follow you and I’ll probably think you’re a bit of a jerk.
I have long been vocal about being in the middle when it comes to the Pro vs. Anti Ragnarok discourse. Ragnarok got me into the Loki fandom, and I enjoyed the film a lot. But. As people have probably noticed (judging by the followers I’ve lost, at any rate), my view toward the movie has become increasingly more negative recently, as more and more discourse comes out and shines a bright spotlight on all the things wrong with it.
Before, I was able to enjoy it as an objective fan, without paying particular attention to Loki’s treatment or how OOC everyone was. It’s a fun time. I’ve gotten to the point, though, where I can no longer separate my critical thinking brain with what’s going on in the story, or with Loki’s treatment. Furthermore, I can’t even enjoy the parts I really loved anymore (Loki’s “I’m here,” the coronation scene, etc) because all I can think about when I watch it is the absolute fucking travesty of what happens to the Asgardians in IW. So I’m like ... yeah, I can’t be in that middle place between enjoyment and critique anymore. There were already parts I skipped entirely upon rewatches bc they’re so bad (the play), but overall, I can’t enjoy this movie anymore.
And, honestly, I don’t understand how someone can read all of the negative, shitty things Taika said about Loki, about Asgard, and about the Thor franchise in general and still say that he’s the only director who understood Loki and Thor’s characters. Then, furthermore, they say that Joss Whedon is the one who can’t write, can’t direct, ruined Avengers, and should stay far away from Marvel, and I just ...???? I have been a fan of Joss Whedon since the 90s, he is responsible for So. Many. Characters. And. Storylines. that I both loved unequivocally and also had a profound influence on my development as a young woman and as a person that I can neither bring myself to dislike him nor understand those who have such vitriol toward him, to the point of, in my opinion, willful ignorance about what’s really going on when it comes to who cares about these characters. I don’t know much about Joss personally, and maybe some of his views are ~problematic~ but as a filmmaker, I have nothing but the highest regard for him. And it really gets me when I see people toss him away in order to stan Taika “I didn’t even watch the other Thor movies here have an anus joke” Waititi.
I mean, maybe I’m being a hypocrite. It seems like I’m saying that I feel like praising Taika is wrong and tearing down Joss is wrong, and if you have these opinions you are wrong, and my opinions are right. That’s not what I’m saying at all. I respect everyone’s opinion, whether or not they’re different than mine.
But I will say that it’s telling of something, I’m not sure what, that the anti Ragnarok people keep the discourse focused entirely on what Taika himself has said and what the movie itself does and doesn’t tear down and/or personally attack anyone who holds the opposite opinion. Furthermore, no one is going and attacking Taika or Chris or anyone personally on Twitter, Insta, or wherever they may hang out. Meanwhile, the Pro Ragnarok people have no problem shitting all over “hard core Loki stans” for these opinions and hoisting themselves up on the altar of smug superiority that they aren’t the pathetic losers who need to get a life. And it’s just. Why? Why can’t we all just keep the opinions limited to the actual source material? Why do feel like your opinions make you better than anyone who disagrees? Could it possibly be because you can’t defend the source material you love so much, so you have to resort to insulting the people who provide the evidence to support their argument that it sucks? I mean, I’m just tossing that out there.
I apologize for this rant. It’s just something that’s been building over the past couple of weeks and I saw a post that just kind of made me snap. This is very stream-of-consciousness and I don’t mean to belittle or insult anyone who likes the movie. I’m sorry if it comes off that way. It’s just, this is where I am at the moment, and I just needed to get it out.
