Vampire Stories: "The Paraplegic" - Farthest Star Publishing
I’m pleased to announce that Farthest Star Publishing has acquired the rights to my vampire novelette, The Paraplegic. The Paraplegic started out as a self-published ebook and went on to see several printings, including Serial Magazine. Making the front cover years ago. Farthest Star now holds reprint rights to my tale of one man becoming paralyzed from the waist down, coping with this new way of…

SOMETHING'S NOT RIGHT IS OUT!
“A quietly fantastical wonderland of creatures, queerness, and possibility.” — Max Franciscovich @goose-books, author of Night Shift
The debut collection returns in a special fifth anniversary edition, repackaged with three new short stories, a new cover, and additional bonus content! A vampire is forced into a compromising situation; a father fears his child's growing plant collection; the undead go to high school; a butcher contemplates whether or not she can be loved. In a captivating debut, yves. opens the door to our world, slightly askew—where the crows work for witches and telephone booths serve as secret channels for prophecy; where a diverse cast of monsters and humans alike are forced to contend with what the world believes is right.
Thank you to everyone who made my weird uncategorizable "Lemony Snicket meets Carmen Maria Machado" speculative fiction an instant bestseller! If you’ve ever felt like a monster, this book is for you.

Thank you so much for reading this post about my book. I hope you will share it, and this image of my beautiful black cat, Andy, widely. To queer weird fiction and indie pub! To you, Dear Reader, with love.

We're officially down to ONE WEEK until The Vampyres is available for eBook and print, March 15th!
But, as expected, there's a minor snag. Well, less a snag than a nitpick, but still.
Much as I love me a matte cover, it turns out the bright neck-wound red doesn't translate as well, giving it a more dried bloodstain/clay tone in the preview. Just take a gander at the Amazon and Barnes and Noble pics.
So now I'm ordering a matte and a glossy author copy and will give them both a final comparison. Thankfully I can make the switch without too much trouble either way. So consider this a minor PSA that:
The paperback version, be it matte or glossy, might not look exactly like the cover I previewed. Ugh.
I wasn't made any promises as to whether glossy will come out appropriately vivid or not, only that sometimes the finish improves the color. If the glossy sample doesn't work out, I'll probably stick with matte after all. It feels comfier. But my thinking is Color > Cover finish, so we'll see what happens.
Because eBooks don't have to worry about printer ink or covers that sponge colors up, it'll be nice and vivid regardless.
In the meantime, I will be hiding from the self-publication process in my newly acquired box of vampire dirt.
I'm sure it's what Dracula would have wanted, may he rest in pieces.

I'm 80% certain I discovered you through a story about a vampire and the guy he was feeding off of that I absolutely ADORED, but cannot seem to find! I remember it being pretty long, published on ao3, being an original work, and the two specific scenes I remember are: vampire standing behind the guy he's about to feed from and telling him many people find it pleasurable; and the vampire getting ill (and maybe passing out?) because some of the people he regularly feeds from got sick and he doesn't want to take their blood while they're recovering. if this was you (and very sorry if it is not!), could you share a link or the name? I loved it very much and have a few friends who I think would also enjoy it greatly! your writing is very fun and I enjoy reading your more serious essays and the.... more scandalous material :)
I found the vampire fic lmao anyway hell yeah for getting it published!
Haha, yes, it was initially on Ao3 and I actually took it down because I thought I had to, when it turns out I didn't!
Tumblr media
Heart of Stone was my first novel, published in 2020, and it's a slowburn fade-to-black romance between an ADHD vampire named Henry Coffey and his new secretary, Theophilus Essex, who's big autism! It's full to the brim with neurodivergence and sweet gentle affection and a blossoming romance between the two of them.
Read reviews on GoodReads / / Read reviews on the Storygraph / / Buy on Amazon / / Buy on Smashwords
Thank you so much for reaching out, and I hope you enjoy it on the reread!
With my other serials that are on Ao3, such as Powder and Feathers (a contemporary dark romance between a fallen angel assassin and his deeply depressed artist boyfriend, originally inspired by Les Misérables) and An Uncommon Betrothal (an interwar romance between a lonely and self-isolated translator who's a polio survivor and relies on several mobility aids, and his butler-cum-fiancé who begins to connect him with other queer men like them), they're not going to be taken down even when I finish, re-edit, and then publish in paperback and eBook! They'll remain up.
I only would have had to take them down if I was enrolling in Amazon's KDP program, which I don't and won't.

Book release announcement!
Tumblr media
[Image description: The cover of the book THE ENCHANTED FOREST AND OTHER STORIES: FIVE TALES OF GENDER MAGIC by Zoe Storm. The cover depicts a person seen from behind walking on a forest path. The person has brown hair, is wearing a beige beanie and an orange jacket, and has a blue backpack on their shoulder; the forest is dark and foreboding. The title of the book is written in white capital letters on the top part of the cover, and the author's name, also in white capital letters, is at the bottom. End ID.]
And we're live! Thanks for your patience, guys and gals and non-binary pals!
My new book, The Enchanted Forest and Other Stories: Five Tales of Gender Magic is available for purchase as a paperback from Amazon!
It's a collection of five short (and not so short) stories, about people finding themselves thanks to the intervention of something magical; whether that's the Fae, vampires, mermaids, or something else, it depends on the story :)
You can purchase the book right here! (And hopefully it will be delivered in time for Christmas.)
Unfortunately Amazon is the only viable paperback marketplace I have available; I know many people don't like it. Sorry.
But if you prefer your reading to be in the electronic flavour, this book can still be preordered from itch or from other marketplaces, with a release date set on the 24th of December, one week from now.
Also! This book is available in Italian, too, and here's the relevant links: Amazon paperback, itch ebook, other markeptlaces.
I'm really happy to bring this book to y'all, and I hope you'll enjoy reading it!

Reposting this silly little promo because this is out today!!
It is Amazon & ebook exclusive for now, but you can buy the ebook for $4.99US, read free on KU, or read on Kindle Vella! (550-ish tokens = $5.50 or $3.50 if you qualify for the 200 free tokens!)
Here's the full summary:
In the parallel realms of humans and vampires, Fen is unique.
Not only is his background a mix of the two species, he also chooses to live part-time in each world—but a rising tension between them threatens this comfortable lifestyle. When two humans disappear near a portal connecting the realms, he must work with his human crush (and pacificistic vampire hunter) Awl and his vampiric childhood friend (with benefits) Roman to uncover the answers before things get violent.
Will they manage to uncover the truth and uphold the fragile peace between species? Or will the threat of war force Fen to pick between two worlds—and the two men he has come to care about in each?
If you end up reading it, I would really appreciate a review on Amazon, Goodreads, or any other platform of your choice to help other readers find my work! Leaving honest reviews is so helpful for indie authors and I would really appreciate it.
Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoy! :)

Hunger Pangs: True Love Bites
Tumblr media
In a world of dwindling hope, love has never mattered more...
Captain Nathan J. Northland had no idea what to expect when he returned home to Lorehaven injured from war, but it certainly wasn’t to find himself posted on an island full of vampires. An island whose local vampire dandy lord causes Nathan to feel strange things he’d never felt before. Particularly about fangs.
When Vlad Blutstein agreed to hire Nathan as Captain of the Eyrie Guard, he hadn’t been sure what to expect either, but it certainly hadn’t been to fall in love with a disabled werewolf. However Vlad has fallen and fallen hard, and that’s the problem.
Torn by their allegiances–to family, to duty, and the age-old enmity between vampires and werewolves–the pair find themselves in a difficult situation: to love where the heart wants or to follow where expectation demands.
The situation is complicated further when a mysterious and beguiling figure known only as Lady Ursula crashes into their lives, bringing with her dark omens of death, doom, and destruction in her wake.
And a desperate plea for help neither of them can ignore.
Hunger Pangs: True Love Bites by Joy Demorra is a queer, paranormal, gaslamp fantasy romance novel featuring enchanted forests, gothic castles, and just a smidge of industrial coal dust, and is the first book of the Hunger Pangs slow-burn polyamorous romance series. Join Vlad, Nathan, and Ursula as they navigate a magical world torn asunder war and politics as they work to restore balance to the world and find love along the way. Book one is available now in ebook, paperback, and audio.

Empowered Internet
Okay. Most of y’all have probably seen me playing around with polls, pretending we’re all empowered, right? Tagging things as “#Keep It Covert” to be cheeky and acting like I’m asking questions to “Empowered Tumblr”
But let’s think about that for a second
Gavin says there are apps for empowered people, which is cool and I wish someone would have elaborated on that by now but what about accessing the internet from your computer browser?
After the Inversion, Erik posted the Department’s official statement on the tragedy with a remarkably convincing fake CloseKnit “ad” right before it
It looked almost just like standard YouTube
But there is A) no way the Department would make that video public where unempowered people could happen across it. The Department maintains covert as its number 1 priority. And B) no way the Department and maybe even the rest of empowered society would bother making a whole separate YouTube just for themselves when YouTube is already right there
So. Obviously there’s some way to access empowered portions of the internet from the standard unempowered internet
Like when you make a YouTube account you put a code into your channel name box (like “EmpoweredID#123456789Covert”) that disappears but unlocks the empowered side of things or something along those lines. Something unempowered people wouldn’t be able to find accidentally
And that’s where you find empowered spaces
Podcasts, vloggers, musicians, ebooks by empowered authors, Facebook groups for shifter packs and vampire clans, empowered-only Discord servers, and so on and so forth
Probably not accessible on every website, but the biggest ones like YouTube and Twitter and Facebook definitely have that feature. If the Department gets enough requests for other websites, they’ll go to said website’s developers and get that access added there too (Tumblr hasn’t been approved yet because I think that’s funny—but the empowered users of Tumblr definitely figured out hints to show each other who’s a fellow magic user) and wipe the developers’ memories of ever doing it, potentially
So yeah. Empowered internet

A message to all the assorted unscrupulous undead: Beware the Ides of March.
To everyone else: Grab your kukri blades, your bowie knives, your stakes, your bone saws, and whatever else you have on hand to appropriately accessorize with your new copy of The Vampyres.
The book is out! Loose! Running rampant and bloodstained through the terrains of eBook and paperback alike!
My beautiful little baby, toddling into the literary world to deliver havoc unto the dastardly bastards of the revenant realm. I’m so proud. (And so happy to feel the stress headache finally start to crack.)
Now that The Vampyres is out in the open, a brief FAQ under the cut:
Where can I get the eBook?
Check out the Universal Book Link (UBL) here:
It’ll show you all the places you can grab a virtual vampyre by the throat.
Where can I get the paperback?
For folks in ‘murrica, I’d say hit up Bookshop.org to go and grab it from your physical store of choice:
You can also just search The Vampyres C.R. Kane and see the waterfall of options. Not sure of the exact timeline, but it should be more widely available in the coming weeks. At least hereabouts:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pictured: Places to potentially purchase a paperback.
Can I get it at my library?
If you ask for it, yes! You’ll need the ISBNs when filling out your library’s request form, so:
eBook ISBN: 9798218374594
Paperback ISBN: 9798218374587
What’s the status on that paperback cover business?
Current status is still ???
At least in the sense that I’m not sure what version of the book cover you might get at the moment. Original matte? Temporary glossy? Updated matte that’s here to stay? No idea at the moment. My self-publishing page shows the update’s confirmed, but the online stores are still using the first version as the preview image and I’m not sure when that gets swapped out. At least the books are all print-on-demand, so whatever you order, just know it’s not coming from some thrown-away backup heap. It’s fresh from the book oven press.
Anything else I need to know?
First, reviews are extremely welcome! I am running on negative budget when it comes to waving my little flag to announce that I Made a Scary Vampire Book, so I’m really relying on word-of-mouth if I want it to actually get its head above water. Leaving stars and comments wherever you can, be it in the online stores, the Goodreadses or Smashwordses or whatever else, would be a big help.
(Really though, I can and will dissolve into a puddle of relieved ego if I see so much as one (1) Nice Comment on Tumblr, my cesspool of choice.*)
*This is not hyperbole. I can count on one hand how many PROMOTION © ™ posts I’ve made on Twitter and have fingers left over. This novella is tailored to my fellow fiendish bookworms on here.
Second, to those coming by this stuff for the first time and don’t know what all this hoopla is about, a preview of my novella, The Vampyres, is available on my website. Give it a gander if you want to see under-appreciated classic supernatural bogeymen dropped into their own horror story.
Thirdly, lastly, vitally: thank you.
The Vampyres is a beautiful accident that came together out of an itch to rattle something out just for myself; a break from a bloated piece that had turned into a chore which burned me out and threw away the fun of scribbling. A lightweight read that saved me from being crushed by a cinderblock.
By the same token, the people on here have shouldered me up and out of the creative pit of thinking ‘This is all for nothing.’ For all that I talk of how much I’m powered by spite and the desire to Read a Specific Thing only to realize I Have to Write That Thing First, I’d be a liar if I said the kindness and excitement of the folks who’ve been reading my nonsense for (holy hell) TWO YEARS in the wake of the first big Dracula Daily surge didn’t have a major role in getting this thing done.
I did make The Vampyres for me. But it’s for you guys too. For everyone who saw one of my rambles or little fictions and spoke up to say, I love this! I was thinking this! I wanted this! Finally, finally!
When you crack open the cover for the first time, on a screen or in your hands, I want you to know I’m thinking Thank You at you. I hope you enjoy all the horrors inside.
