I'm so close to my limit on this fucking card game.
Greetings fellow duelists.
Picture this, okay. You're a Branded player. Hateful, I know. You want to play paper, build the deck in real life, test it out with other people. Great. Awesome. Fun for you!
You play some Master Duel, get a feel for the deck. Alright, yeah, feels good, feels powerful. Bit bricky, but who cares? Isn't every deck? (Coping.)
Grab a couple of Albaz Strike Structure Decks. $60 total, wow! Fit together something resembling your build, if a bit on the cheap side, but that's fine. You're just testing it out.
Boom! Wake up babe, new support just dropped. Time to upgrade! A trap like Branded Banishment, a clean $10, alright. Another Ecclesia retrain in Cartesia, a monster and a fusion spell? Sick, sign me up! So, how much we talking? $20? $30?
$60.
Oh. Alright, we'll just skip her for now then. No need to cash out so much for a one-of that only boosts consistency. What else is there?
Right, yeah, the Bystial monsters! A bunch of big asshole dragons who are also handtrap chaos monsters? Damn, pretty strong! Got some nice new continuous spells and traps like Regained and Beast for $5 each, yeah, sure.
The monsters aren't too terrible. Saronir for $5, Druiswurm for $10, Magnamhut for $20. Pricey, sure, but if it changes and evolves the playstyle so much. Oh, and Lubellion! So again, like $30, right? Or is this another $60 Cartesia situation?
$120.
Okay no. If we can't have all these nice pretty new Branded cards for under $300 when I'm only planning to mess around, I'm good, I'll pass.
Luckily, the tins are coming out later this year, so I'm sure the reprints will be a lot cheaper. And prettier, too. Then I can finally upgrade my deck and play like I've practiced in-game! Just one more month, right?
DING DONG!
Oh? Who's that?
IT CHANGED.
Hmm? What did?
THE WHOLE DECK. IT'S COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. NO MORE DESPIA. NO MORE BYSTIALS. NO MORE BRANDED SPELLS AND TRAPS.
... But I liked Branded Beast control. I liked Masquerade + Dramaturge pass. I loved bringing back Mirrorjade with Ad Libitum. I loved banishing my opponent's monsters with Magnumhut to +2. What happened? Where're my children? Where are we? Who are you?
WELCOME TO DUEL MONSTERS BITCH, IT'S TIME FOR CHIMERA BRANDED, FORGET ABOUT THE TINS.

So we made the mistake of getting back into Yugioh and I've accidentally decided to build a deck that is SUPER META-RELEVANT XD
I just wanted to run Despia because weird theatre people in masks, and then there were DRAGONS involved and then I accidentally the whole thing because "terrible theatre people who let you fuse bishies to summon dragons" is just so incredibly my brand... And it's also apparently super strong XD

⬅[Prev] Day 2: Family
@ygoc-week Day 3: Decks
I wanted to sketch something for each of my ocs with their aces but unfortunately i passed out last night so i'm just going to chuck the actual card beside a picture of them, lol
Image heavy post below!
Tumblr media
Starting off with the Synchro Dimension, Hamelin uses a Yang Zing deck, and has two "secret roommates" (read: pet rats) that she named after Ba Xia and Jiaotu, her two main Extra Deck Aces.
Tumblr media
She switches gears to Magikeys when in her Phantom Thief persona, who has a deep grudge against...
Tumblr media
Jackie, who uses Swordsouls, an archetype that carries much meaning to her. Her belt is based on QXYL's sword(?)tail(?) and her unwavering devotion to an estranged childhood friend makes her a worthy wielder of the sword the card is based on, which represents integrity.
Tumblr media
Jackie works for Fleur, who uses Aromages. As someone who is very at home behind a chessboard, she doesn't like dueling that much as it has too many uncontrollable factors, such as luck.
Tumblr media
Moving to the Standard Dimension, first up is Cider and her Myutants! What? Her duel disk? Oh, that's because she's originally from [REDACTED]
Tumblr media
Weird, how did we end up in the Xyz Dimension? Anyway, Alcidis uses Witchcrafters, and before you ask me how he Xyz summons with this deck, my answer is that he splashes in Dogmatika cards from his bestie:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Arte, who uses Dogmatika! When she duels, it's like a switch flips, and she looks a lot like her brother... It scares her teacher, because it reminds him of a very unpleasant memory...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Viol used Mermails during the war, but after the events of the show he upgrades his ace from Abyss Dweller to a... custom monster... that I haven't designed yet lmao sigh one day i will
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Back in Academia, Faye and Fence shared a Dream Mirror deck, each memorising one side of the deck as they struggled too much to memorise and use a single deck by themselves. After they moved to Standard, Fence picked up Normal Pendulums and Faye uses a custom Xyz archetype that lets her transform like her favourite masked riders!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Above art by @mechaseraph go throw money at them you won't regret it)
Last but not least, Fuschia with his Despians! He picked it because he loves red and purple, but more importantly, he found the love of his life... Aluber the Dogmatic. Yeah, he's one of those weirdos with a duel monster crush (same tbh)
Tumblr media
He'd never admit he had a crush on Aluber during the events of ARC-V, but post-canon he unabashedly has a giant poster of him (pictured above) in his room.
Tumblr media
死の舞台で闇と光こそ栄える… 答え探し道はここに途絶える! 融合召喚!レベル⑧ デスピアン・クエリティス!
Upon this stage of death¹, darkness and light² alike thrive… Your path for answers³ ends here! I fusion summon! Level 8 Despian Quaeritis!
Did I make a summon chant in japanese too because i could yeah i may be cringe but at least im free
[1] Despia is a portmanteau of 'death' and 'thespian'. [2] His ace's fusion materials requires one Despian monster and a LIGHT or DARK monster. [3] Despian Quaeritis is named after quem quaeritis i.e. Whom do you seek? It's a question Fuschia often asks his quarry during the war. (And then he cards them all together after helping them reunite)

Idk if you've answered this before but seeing how master duel is shown on your banner, what deck(s) do you play in Yugioh?
im so sorry im only now getting to this anon, you actually caught me when i was too busy to play!!! i've been playing HEROs since i was a kid, but in truth i tend to just play whatever isnt the most dominant deck in the meta. so long as it feels honorable i'll usually play it, so when i get tired of sandbagging in ranked i usually swap over to branded despia.
unless i plan to hit someone with evil jank bullshit.

The Main Yu-Gi-OH GEXAL Multiverse [Season 1]
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Chero Kafuka, the main character/Duelist for the Yu-Gi-OH GEXAL Multiverse. During Season 1, the Numbers [known in ZEXAL] have began to affect their sibling Liubuv. They start to investigate and gets involved in a war between Astral World VS The Velgearians. Chero and Liubuv [who will appear in art form later on] are foster children who are raised by their science teacher who took them in.
Chero is similar to Chazz Princeton[GX], but with a shy side like Syrus[GX]. So they likes their personal space.
The deck he uses is based on Water attibute.
Tumblr media
Nova is a Garald alien of the Moonstar Cluster. The Garalds are disbanded after the destruction of their planet. She was taken in by Yuudias Velgear and Zwijo Zir Velgear. Due to her being a plant type of Extraterrestrial, she only needs to feed on light and water.
She joins Chero in trying to investigate the numbers.
Her duel Deck consists of Despia and others.
Tumblr media
"Sky Fisher? There isn't much known about this being of Hive Concious. They knows many things, and never truly show themselves. But they seem to be helping the Team for a purpose. Shall it come to light?"
Their deck is Sky-Zombie/Zombie monsters.
Tumblr media
Mana Iihart is a student for Duel University on Rush Seaside. She's Nixxie Iihart's older sister, the lover of Gekko Tenma, one of the strongest duelists of Rush Seaside, and the Darklord Duelist.
She is similar to a mentor to Nixxie, and all of Nixxie's friends. Her and Gekko have more important roles in later seasons.
Tumblr media
Gekko Tenma is one of the twins the creator of the concept of monster cards, Maximillion Pegasus.
He Duels as one of the top three duelists of Duel University. His lover is Mana, and just like her, they'll have more important roles.
Tumblr media
Nixxie Iihart is a Dueling fanatic. She also uses Dream Mirror and Dream base deck. She feels close to her sister, but loves hanging out with her few new friends Chero and Nova.
Pegasus says she'll be the new Mana when the new generation gets into the university.
Tumblr media
Xavier is a mysterious figure who carries a sword and leads a group of three through the Rush Seaside town and whether he and his team are good and bad, it isn't known. He uses a Vampire base deck.
Chero has a theory he isn't human. That shall be revealed in Season 2.
Tumblr media
Revon is a tall unusual girl with no memories before the trio found her. She seems to have the ability to communicate with Duel Spirits and sense danger. The duel Deck she learns to use is a dragon deck. She stays with Chero and Liubuv who feel sorry for the poor girl.
【:】
Yu-Gi-OH GEXAL is a multiverse in a Yu-Gi-OH format. Rush Dueling is the main Dueling that ever happens, but regular Duels happen as the series continues. It involves many of the original characters from many other original series and my own characters live in a area that shows many of the original shows settings.

As promised (albeit belated), here’s a compilation of sorts of questions I’ve received
1) Favorite...
a) Summoning Mechanic
The easiest of the “favorite” questions by far to answer. Fusion Summoning for life.
b) Archetype
Where the heck to even begin...This is by no means an encompassing list, but among my top ones from skimming Yugipedia’s list, would probably be Elemental HERO, Shark, Blue-Eyes, Superheavy Samurai, Skull Servant, Six Samurai, Fluffal, Resonator, Lightsworn, SPYRAL, U.A., Predaplant, Ojama, Gouki, and Ghoti.
c) Competitive archetype
At least of somewhat recently competitive decks, I am a fan of Branded Despia (Fusion Summoning of course). As far as competitive decks that have come out over the last year (though I haven’t played any of them myself), I am a fan of the art for Runick, Spright, and Tearlaments.
d) Archetype’s art
Again, this is near impossible. Just some that immediately pop-out in skimming the list of archetypes (of names that I have not yet mentioned already above): P.U.N.K. (probably my favorite over the last year), Libromancer, Vaylantz, Ice Barrier, Gishki, Myutant, Suship, The Weather, Ogdoadic, Noble Knight, Melffy, Shaddoll....Seriously, the list goes on and on.
2) Favorite monster/monster art
Again, this is probably impossible to answer, both overall and from card art perspective. My cop-out answer would be, as far as what card I have the most attachment to, would probably be Elemental HERO Shining Flare Wingman, as I pulled an Ultimate Rare copy from Elemental Energy from a pack from my local card shop. Ultimate Rare Mobius the Frost Monarch would also be up there as well...And Kazuki Takahaski’s arts are absolutely fantastic to the surprise of no one.
3)Reason for Deepsea Shark
Certainly not my favorite card art of all time (though I do like it), but it’s a Shark and I liked the color scheme of it and it fit the color scheme I had for the blog, so it stuck. I have considered switching it to Man-Eating Black Shark (which similarly fits the color scheme), but out of habit, I have kept it.
4) Do you play Yu-Gi-Oh! online?
I do, yes. Took a while, but finally got into Master Duel on the Switch. I tend to play it in spurts here and there among other games (recently between re-playing the Bayonetta series before starting the 3rd game probably this coming week and playing Pokemon Violet).

Which archetype is your favorite in terms of playstyle synergy with it's art design?
I think the Albaz lore did alot of cool stuff with conveying story via effect text, like Dogmatika representing an oppressive religious order via the use of extra deck hate, which, using extra deck monsters for costs kinda also hints at them using Albaz, or rather the source of Albaz, as the source of their powers. Likewise Despia being a fusion archetype immediately sets up the connection to Albaz even before the Branded Fusion half of the deck was revealed. Tri-Brigade using graveyard banishing to to summon can maybe represent guerilla warfare tactics, it is a bit of a stretch but I'd like to think it's there. Though my favorite one there is probably springans loading themselves into their bigger monsters and firing off by literally attaching themselves to the xyz monsters for effects.

hi i came across your blog by chance and your art is phenomenal (i have fat girl friday scheduled lmao) but my most important question is. what deck(s) do you play in master duel
a) this is the most delightful ask i've gotten so far tyvm for the compliments and spreading my fat catgirl propaganda. nota fakename is everything and it makes me very happy to see people on here fall in love with her.
Tumblr media
b) i play dragonmaids and HEROs (i was a GX baby) for fun, used to use exodia/synchron/quasar for climbing ladder (70% of wins coming from someone folding before the end of my first turn), am currently experimenting with a despia deck that is more than 50% handtraps by volume as i spite my way through tearlaments meta
