Omg yes please give us perv!eddie he’s not Jonathan ffs
yo are you KIDDING ME jonathan is such a FUCKING CREEP taking pictures of the girl he has a crush on having sex thru her bedroom window like please sir go to PRISON that is where you BELONG
i'm gonna get self indulgent again. honestly just expect it from me.
18+ minors go play roblox
perv!eddie is such a babe. he is so gross. has so many intrusive thoughts. not a decent thing happens inside that pretty little head of his. he babey <3
the thing that makes his perversion so weirdly charming is that he just feels so guilty about it. like it's okay to have fantasies. sex is fun for sane, consenting adults.
but this poor man feels so bad because he can't stop thinking about how much he wants to fuck.
he has an insane collection of porn. he's got magazines, erotic novels, dirty videos, each one more depraved than the last. he researches sex positions for fun. he writes erotic poems (most of them are about you). he has an extensive list of songs he wants to get down and dirty to, many of the entries scribbled out and reordered. he's put a lot of thought into it.
and his toys? he has so many. cock rings. ball spreaders. fleshlights. vibrators. stimulating lube. lube in different flavors. you name it, he probably has it. this man loves to make himself cum.
big pillow humper. he'll grip and bite his pillow and fuck it hard, talking to it like it's the one girl he wants to be with most (you know who. steve lmao.)
he's definitely tried to suck his own dick before. not successfully, but he had to make an attempt. for science.
but he doesn't want to just blindly fuck anyone. no, he's too insecure for that. and how much fun can you really have with a stranger? he wants to fuck someone he knows and trusts, who'll care enough to get him off and who he wants to see get off, too.
you. he wants to fuck you.
you live rent free in his head. not only are you the prettiest thing he's ever seen, but you're smart, and you're funny, and god he wants to hear what kinds of sweet little noises you'd make with his mouth pressed to your clit.
and that makes it very hard to be such close friends with you.
every little thing you do makes him want you. when you wear a low cut shirt, he can't stop himself from peeking at the dip of your cleavage. when you bend over, all he can think about is how amazing your ass would look and feel pushed up against his dick. when you wear shorts or a skirt, he just wants to slip his hand between your thighs. and don't even mention watching you eat - anything you put in your mouth conjures images of your lips wrapped around his cock.
touches of any kind drive him crazy. when he hugs you, he can feel your breasts, the curve of your waist, how good they feel. he's squeezed your love handles a little bit before, saving the memory of the sensation so he can imagine gripping them as he pounds you into his mattress. he "accidentally" brushes his arms and hands against your chest any chance he gets. he tenses up whenever you put your hand on his shoulder, or grab his arm, his entire body fizzing with electricity because you're touching him. that one time you kissed him on the cheek? best day of his goddamn life.
oh, and the one time you guys went to the beach with a group of friends? and he caught a little glimpse of your pubic hair under the line of your swimsuit? and your naked side brushed up against his naked side? he came so hard thinking about it later that night that it was like a religious experience.
he's a bathroom masturbator. when you hang out together, he disappears at least once to go rub one out, his cock straining painfully against his jeans because all he can think about is what you probably look like naked. how your nipple would feel between his teeth. how your pussy would feel around his fingers.
and listen. you and eddie are tighter than one of his cock rings (you know about his cock rings for heck's sake. gareth and jeff don't even know about them, and you've seen those men do tradesies of different issues of playboy with each other). you know he's depraved and totally disgusting but. you can't help but find it.
so cute?
like he gets all blushy when something turns him on, and he can't make eye contact with you, and he goes into Ultra Chivalry mode to try and make up for it. he really is just the sweetest guy in the world, if also the most painfully horny guy in the world.
but he's also your best friend. you bonded over pulling each other's strings and being generally annoying and irksome to each other.
so do you take it easy on him?
lmao no. teasing him is too easy and way too much fun. you're not mean about it, though.
once when you were in his room you caught a glimpse of one of his porno mags, how the woman on the cover wore a velvet choker and nothing else, how the page was pretty crinkled with... use.
the next time you hung out you wore a velvet choker, and styled your hair a little bit like hers. when you got in the front seat of his van he just stared at you for a moment, eyes bugging out of his head, cock straining against his zipper. when you bit your lip and giggled at him he thought he was gonna cream right then and there.
you also love dropping hints about your kinks to him and calling him little nicknames that'll get him going. "hot stuff" is a winner, as is "big boy". you risked calling him "daddy" once and you thought he was gonna combust. one time he was helping you fix the collar of your blouse and he pulled the ties at the neck a little to tight; he apologized immediately and profusely, but you just shrugged and said "it's cool, i like being choked"
the fantasies he had about you that night.
because gareth and jeff still see you as just one of the guys, you're often invited to their kickbacks in one of their basements. of course eddie is there, and of course there's beer, always. you have a few too many at one of these hangs and, when the conversation between the three virgins switches to condoms, you chime in.
"i just think it wouldn't feel good," jeff says
"gonorrhea doesn't feel good either, man," gareth giggles (he's stoned off his ass on the good weed eddie brought over)
"yeah, and condoms can be really sexy," eddie adds. he's about to quote something from his literature when you speak up.
"they can," you agree. "i know how to put a condom on with my mouth."
the room goes dead fucking silent, all of them staring at you like you just admitted to hosting orgies with the local recreational softball league every weekend.
"what?" you laugh. "it's not hard."
"yeah but now eddie is"
that was when he decided he needed to man up and ask you out. you gave him a demonstration of your little trick not long after. he refuses to put a condom on himself now that he's seen you do it.
as a boyfriend eddie's still a little perv. he's just got all his perv energy focused on you, and he doesn't have to hide it anymore.
he's very handsy. he's respectful of your comfort level with pda, because at the end of the day he loves you and wants you to be comfortable, but that doesn't mean he always keeps his hands to himself - he just puts them where no one can see them.
you're at the movies? he's got his arm around your shoulders and his hand down your shirt, cupping your breast. grabbing a bite with friends? his hand is between your legs, squeezing your upper thigh at a dangerous height. in an empty aisle at the local bookstore? he's pulling you in so he can suck on your neck, hands planted firmly on your ass cheeks.
when you kiss him goodbye on nights you're not spending together, he usually goes back to his van and immediately jerks himself off to the thought of you. when you do spend nights together, he likes to undress you as soon as you're through the door, sometimes even before. if you're wearing a skirt, that's a challenge for eddie - he's trying to sneakily get your panties off under it the entire way back to whoever's place you've decided on.
speaking of panties.
he's a little thief. and he's not even discreet about it.
you stay over at his place? your panties will most certainly go missing at some point, only to reappear a week or two later. he comes over to yours? he's opening up your drawers, looting through undergarments, pointing out his favorite bras and pocketing his favorite undies.
"why are you so gross?" you ask him once, teasing.
"gross?" he gasps. "i miss you so much when you're gone that i've gotta have a little piece of you with me, and you call me gross?"
he's not even lying when he says that. having a piece of you is just part of it for him. he loves you, even if it is in kind of a weird way.
one of his favorite dates is going to sex shops with you. he loves picking things out for you - lingerie, restraints, gags, toys, he wants to try it all with you. his favorite thing he's ever bought you is an o ring gag (paired with some numbing throat spray). his favorite thing you've ever bought him is a vibrating cock ring with an attached clit stimulator. that gets used a lot.
he's also made it kind of a hobby of yours to read erotica to each other. you'll alternate picking books - he reads the ones you pick, and you read the ones he picks. you actually tend to get side tracked talking about plot points and character arcs. but eddie is pretty proud of himself for being able to finger you and read aloud without losing his place or missing a beat.
now let's talk photos.
if we're sticking to canon, he uses your polaroid camera more than you do. he loves taking nudes of you, with you, and has multiple shots of what you look like from his point of view during sex pinned up on his wall (and in his wallet, and in his van, and in his work locker, and...). he also likes to slip naughty photos of himself to you, slotting them in beside your bookmarks and under the windshield wipers on your car.
if we're going for a more modern twist, oh my god this guy loves making you his personal cam girl (and being yours). the lockscreen on his phone is a post-sex picture of you, all fucked out and beautiful curled up next to him. he sends you teasing pictures throughout the day, broken up by a few cumshots and masturbation videos. he loses all sense of reason when you do the same to him, even going to the extent of faking an illness so he could get out of work and meet up to fuck in the parking lot of your own workplace. not a fan of cyber sex, though. he likes being able to touch you.
and on that note, he habitually fucks you in public. you've lost count of how many bathroom stalls you've left used condoms in.
he showers with you often, but strangely enough, you've never had shower sex. he likes the intimacy of it, holding you close and kissing your shoulders and just feeling like you're the only two people on earth. if you're showering, he'll slip in with you without a word and just hug you, especially if he's had a rough day.
when it all comes down to it, eddie loves you. he may be depraved and hornier than any other man you've met, but he would never do anything that makes you uncomfortable or crosses a line.
he's lucky you're a dirty little freak like him.

If Jonathan has been suffering from brain fever which has apparently symptoms of delirious ramblings and no memory of who you are and where you live, does that mean that he had lost his memory even BEFORE he arrived at the station?
Because Sister Agatha said that he was asking for a ticket at Klausenburg station. But he never said a ticket to WHERE.
They assumed he was English from his manners and language, but he never said he wanted to go to England. "the guard was told by the station-master there that he rushed into the station shouting for a ticket for home." Home to where? Where is home? He evidently couldn't tell, he could just say home.
So did he climb down the walls and run across the Carpathians while actively losing his memory?
Ooh, this is a really interesting possibility. I have always kind of assumed that he didn't experience the worst of his brain fever until he broke down/was in the hospital. Then, a combination of his memories/attempts to talk being disregarded as delirium, and his body breaking down, and PTSD (and also maybe all those religious symbols burning the vampire infection out of his blood) - those were what led him to forget, to dismiss whatever he did remember as just delusions. He knew that he couldn't afford to linger on the memories for multiple reasons (they caused him to panic, they caused others to call him crazy) and just blocked it all out together with actually forgetting. He chose not to seek further because whatever the truth, he didn't want to know. He didn't want to deal with confirming that he had actually gone mad, or opening up the possibility that he hadn't. So he didn't read his diary. He was out and he wanted to move on.
But he already felt like his brain was on fire before he left. What if he was losing memories/coherence as he fled? What if everything else started to disappear, what if he only barely managed to hold on to a couple of concepts that were of the utmost importance to him? So he knows he has to get home. He knows he can't stop until he does so. He knows the way to go roughly (knows to travel West, knows to take a train) but can't explain it, can only wildly call for someone to send him home without being able to give any details on where that is. He knows the urgency but can no longer remember why, just that he is terrified and he cannot stop. (Until he has no choice, until he's forced to do so. And then, once he does stop, he loses himself entirely. The linchpin has been removed; without being able to go home he no longer can move at all, can't say who he wants to find there or where it is. With the urgency forced away he loses even his sense of time. At least for a while.)
And the one other thing he knows, the thing he's spent months doing. He knows he must protect his diary. He travels with it in his coat pocket, where he can reach in and feel it at any moment and reassure himself it's still there. When he's put in the hospital he never tells anyone about it. Maybe he asks Sister Agatha if it is still there, or maybe he can't share even that much, maybe he only asks her to keep his clothes in the room with him where he can see them. He protects it even from himself, he allows no one to read it or to touch it or to ask him about it. He doesn't even remember exactly why anymore, he just knows whatever is inside is terrifying and deadly important. He knows it is secret. He knows it has to be kept safe at all costs. And while he can't bear even to face it himself, even after he has started to recover, he absolutely cannot get rid of it either. And so he gives it to the one person he knows with absolute certainty will never break his trust, who can be allowed to open it at any time because she can be trusted with all of himself and everything he knows or once knew, who will never make him face it again unless he absolutely needs to do so. He gives it to the one person he knows will protect it without question. He gives it to Mina.

sometimes you spend two hours out of your tuesday talking about the persistence of the "steve harrington is an idiot" narrative which is basically the most consistent thru-line in the entire show
sometimes you are watching stranger things 4 and eddie munson calls steve harrington "a pretty good dude" and "oh no," you think "is this the first positive thing anyone's said to him this season?" and then, even worse, "oh god, is this the first time in the show that someone directly tells steve that he's a good person?"
and then you write a lot of words about it
like. let's take a journey.
season 1: nancy doing her little "you are an idiot steve harrington" bit, which as been talked about, but also the fact that tommy and carol are constantly making fun of him for liking nancy, almost in a "aww he doesn't know that he's pathetic" kind of way. barb thinks he's an idiot. jonathan thinks he's an idiot. we know what happened when the duffers wrote him, he was supposed to be an idiot. nancy thought he was using her for sex, and she wanted to rebel! she didn't want to date him even though steve was just so clearly fucking besotted. even the kids thought he was trouble!
on top of that: we know that his parents are never home, that they think it's pathetic that he lost his fight with jonathan (probably just threw money at the situation honestly). we know he's popular, but decidedly not well-liked.
BUT. he's like. a good guy. he apologizes to jonathan for the shit he said. he would apologize to nancy later but he knew he fucked up with jonathan. called jonathan a queer, a freak, said shit about his family, he knew it was over the line and he wanted to fix it. he ran when he saw the monster but he came back inside to save them anyway. nancy gets back together with him. he buys jonathan a new camera and has nancy give it to him as a gift because he knows jonathan wouldn't take it from him. he is smart!
concussion tracker: 1
season 2: he writes his college admissions essay, but nancy doesn't think it's good, no one thinks it's good. he knows it's not good. he's visibly nervous about it, knows his parents are going to be disappointed if he doesn't get to college. there's no more "you are an idiot steve harrington" but a wider acknowledgement that he is Not Smart. he doesn't make the Right Decisions. not to his parents, not to nancy, not by listening to the government and not talking about barb, not by being worried about his family because the government will take everything away from him.
he's a fool in love. he doesn't even realize that nancy doesn't love him. she challenges him when he says so, too, calls him crazy for it, but he's right. he heard her say it to his face and he almost lets her pretend it never happened because he loves her so much.
he's not popular anymore, either, not in his senior year, not without tommy and carol, not with billy around. he can't even keep his girlfriend, that one everyone told him was a red flag, the one that is way smarter than him, way too good for him, he's only really making her worse and she thinks so too. steve, you're so stupid for thinking everything is okay when it's bullshit! when it's obviously bullshit, everything was and you clearly didn't care and everyone knew this was all smoke and mirrors except for you.
he's still good, though, still a good guy. he gives dustin bad (but well-meaning) advice. and the thing is that he doesn't even realize that it's bad advice. it always worked for him! harrington you idiot! naive. girls don't care if you like them, youre pretty! don't you know that's why?
still, he's good! he goes to nancy's place to ask for her back and to apologize even though he knows he didnt do shit wrong. he unquestioningly takes dustin where he needs to go, protects them all from billy even though he can't fight: really, very stupid of him to try. he loses and is literally passed out for a good chunk of time but the kids are okay! he can't see or hear but he knows that if he doesn't chaperone them into the upside down that they'll probably die so he gets up and does it.
he sends nancy to go be with jonathan because "i'm a pretty shitty boyfriend, but i'm not a half-bad babysitter" (and he says this literally knowing he didn't do anything wrong. he really believes he's a pretty shitty boyfriend. he's gotta be, he's too stupid for her, not good enough, couldn't make her happy, didn't let her be right in the way that she needed to be and that just must be a universal truth). it's supposed to be humbling when he takes dustin to the snow ball, now that he's the babysitter guy, he's finally been humbled! thank god! he had such a big ego before!
concussion tracker: 2
season 3: he didn't get into college (probably because he never ended up editing that college admissions essay) (probably also because he's had two serious head injuries) and he's really fallen from grace, now. girls don't even want anything to do with him, partly because he didn't get into college, partially because he's convinced he has no game. he's insecure about it, too, because even dustin has a girlfriend from his smart nerd camp and his advice from last year didn't turn out to be any good. and not to mention what is dad thinks about him.
and steve just. doesn't hesitate for a second to help dustin with the russian spy thing without even knowing it had anything to do with the upside down. like this was no longer life and death, dustin is just his friend and he likes him. and he still helped him even when he was struggling with translation, and he was the only reason they found out it they were operating from the mall, even though everyone else thought it was stupid that he was so focused on the song.
and then he gets tortured, and manages (for the most part) to protect everyone else, takes a fucking massive beating for it, only mentions a single name when he's drugged.
and this part is extremely important to me as a robin buckley defender to the death, she straight up tells steve all about how awful he was, how big of a dick he was in mrs. click's class. and he agrees! he knows! it's hit him that the person he was in high school was this miserable asshole who didn't care about anyone else even though we've only seen a version of steve that tries and cares. nobody remembers all that. not even steve. and later he confesses to her and is straight up waxing poetic about how much fun she is and how much he likes spending time with her and how great it is to be her friend. and yeah, he likes her, he has eyes and a brain. and she shuts him down and it takes about five seconds for his brain to recalibrate.
he's good. doesn't even take a full 1986 minute to feel sorry for himself, to feel stupid for barking up the wrong tree again. doesn't take a full aids epidemic world minute to be on her side. no shit this is the guy who called jonathan a queer and immediately went to apologize. he's used to it. he's used to being wrong and he's used to transforming his love into something platonic.
he doesn't hesitate to run his car directly into billy's or back in the direction of the mind flayer. he's unafraid. he's brave. no one calls him brave to his face but they all think it.
and then right at the end, he's trying to get a new job at the movie store, where he almost doesn't get hired because he's too stupid to know anything about movies and-- isn't it funny that he walks into that cardboard cutout that was right in front of him? there goes steve harrington. the bumbling idiot.
concussion tracker: at least 4 (he got his shit rocked by the russians at least twice)
season 4: this is where it gets good. it's where it gets interesting. by which i mean it gets awful and i hate it. it's where i want to rip my hair out of my head and eat it.
spoiler alert: ive only watched volume 2 once and im currently rewatching volume 1 (which actually sparked this rant obviously), so it's going to be a bit brief talking abt v2 compared to v1
just in the very first episode, we get: steve getting negged by his date about how he was bad at basketball, steve talking about how he wants a real relationship with someone who gives a shit about him instead of just... using him for sex, steve being vocally jealous about dustin's other older male friend, steve being the only one who saw lucas win the game (other than nancy who has like never spoken to lucas) and no one acknowledging it. he's like in an accumulative like five minutes of this episode probably.
in the next few episodes, we get a lot of dustin (bless him) straight up calling steve an idiot for
suggesting they contact the police on account of all of the horrible things theyve gotten involved with and the murder that just happened
not knowing how a compass works
being careful in rick's shed in case someone tries to kill them
not knowing how walkie talkies work
not knowing where the walkie talkies are?
then there's nancy who sticks him with the kids because he isn't smart enough to pretend to know things about psychology, they need a certain type of student, says that they're not even kids anymore, that it'll be easy, as if he's only capable of the easy tasks. meanwhile the kids are constantly fighting him because they're smart and know each other well and honestly do not want to be babysat. meanwhile instinct tells steve that max is in trouble and he's right and they still fight him on it.
there's the way robin dustin and eddie tell steve how he needs nancy back (even though he's like respecting her relationship with the guy that She Left Him For) (even though she told him directly and explicitly two years ago that she was never in love with him and that their relationship was bullshit) (even though last summer he told robin all about how he would probably always love her but he knows they wouldn't work again and he's ready to move on)
and like. nobody makes long speeches about what a great guy they think steve harrington is. they all figure: he must already know. only cares about his appearance and getting girls. didn't even bother going to college. probably will skate by on his parents' money. he was popular and a dick and he's kind of an airhead. but who cares, man? it's just steve harrington.
this is the worst for me, man, is when he thanks eddie in the upside down for saving his life, and eddie immediately deflects, and steve has no shit whatsoever to say. he goes up to eddie away from the girls and starts a conversation with a guy that he was convinced was a murderer, a guy he called a freak until they saw each other (eddie: hunt the freak, right?), and starts the conversation to be like: hey! thank you! those girls know how much they mean to me but you don't and i want you to know.
eddie's like "dustin told me you were a badass and i didnt believe him but he was right" and steve is genuinely like. thrown off. dustin doesn't tell him this stuff! he thinks steve is indestructible. and then the good part: "i guess i couldn't accept the fact that Steve Harrington was actually a good dude. rich parents, popular, chicks love him, not a douche?"
because people always stop before they get to that part! steve has rich parents (who cut him off and are never shown because they're never home), steve is popular (or, he was back in high school but we already went over that fall from grace), chicks love him (except they historically absolutely resolutely do not, not the way he wants to be loved by them, not nancy or robin or the girl he takes to the basketball game.) -- but not a douche? when i say this might be the only genuinely nice thing said to steve about his own character in the entire show i'm really struggling to find evidence otherwise. it's honestly nicer than 95% of the shit ever said about steve, to his face or anyone else.
really, the only thing steve is good for, the only thing he has acknowledged himself for being good at, the only thing other people have openly acknowledged he was good at: babysitting
which makes the end of the season hurt all that much more, doesn't it?
he's never been allowed to hang out with the older kids. not since season 1 (even though nancy and jonathan would have 100% died if he hadn't come back). and he loves those kids. he's good at being there for them. he's stood up directly from more than one serious brain injury and immediately did the right thing by them, for them, sacrificed himself for them, only really complained about it in season 4 because at that point it becomes personal, not circumstantial. he's not asked by the kids to help, he's asked by the older people who don't think he can handle any more than them.
i'll say this, too, because it hurts my feelings and idk where else to put it: when max is running up that hill, she calls for dustin and lucas. over and over again. when eddie calls the party over the walkie, he asks for dustin and nancy. steve is always there but no one asks for him. he's going to be there. he's going to instrumental in helping them. but they do not ask for him when theyre scared or in trouble. nobody does and he comes back every single time. he's always there to hear their desperation but he knows he's not who they want!
and i feel like the steve harrington that they want us to think existed would have a snarky comment every time: "i'm here too, you know" but he doesn't. something tells me he doesn't expect to be wanted.
it's just something i noticed.
and then volume 2 hits. they have this big plan. for once, he goes with the big kids. him and his two girls. he trusts eddie and dustin to keep each other safe. he lets max and lucas keep each other safe. he does this even though he always always makes sure they are safe first before saving himself. always. (getting the kids out of the upside down, getting the kids out of the rapidly closing russian elevator, ushering them out, actively putting himself in danger, using his body as a shield. he walks into battle every single time expecting to sacrifice himself for these kids. and this time he goes with robin and nancy to fight the big bad, leaves the smaller things to the kids who desperately want him to stop babysitting them. he figures: max and lucas can handle it themselves, they told me time and time again. dustin and eddie are close and they understand each other in a way i dont get to understand dustin, they can handle it themselves.
steve harrington, you bumbling idiot, listen to them for once! they're smarter than you, anyway, you really hold them back.
and then what? eddie dies, right there in dustin's arms. eddie who is the only person who has actually genuinely told steve that he's a good person that he likes spending time with. even though he told them both not to be a hero. because he knew he wouldnt be able to save them this one time. and dustin had to watch.
and then what? max dies and then lives and then gets put in a coma. he wasn't there like he was in the graveyard. he was the only reason they realized soon enough back then and this time he wasn't there to save her from vecna.
and then what? lucas and erica are nearly killed by jason and the other basketball goons, genuinely violently hate-crimed. and like. steve was wildly popular. he fell from grace but you know jason probably respected him in some weird jock way, would probably listen to steve as like a fucking white guy. and steve can throw a punch
before the got in the fight he and robin were like: i think we're going to lose
and i know steve feels like: i stepped away from my post. the only thing i was good at, the only thing anyone respected me for. i set up this plan and it got people killed. i was tired of being the babysitter and! now! look!
concussion tracker: still probably at least 4 but also i'd like to mention that he gets strangled literally twice this season for like a significant amount of time which is decidedly bad for your brain
tldr: steve harrington, fiercely loyal, canonically neglected, chronically self-sacrificial, disliked at some point by every single character on the show, constantly underestimated, openly self-conscious about his intelligence (both before and after sustaining several severe brain injuries) and how other people perceive him and if people like him and want him around, has given everything for the entire party and he needs to get something back in season 5.
he needs someone other than nancy to tell him he's a good person and a good force in their lives. he needs his final story arc to not be about his romance with nancy (they both need this). he needs dustin to open up to him about eddie's death. he needs someone to trust him with something other than their physical safety. he has never once turned someone away.
and, because he's my blorbo and i want to see him suffer, just a little bit, i want the show to acknowledge how badly he would take the blame for eddie and max and lucas specifically. it is the one time he was not there, it was the one time they lost. he's my steve harrington and i get to project my massive guilt complex onto him as much as i damn well please. and then i want someone to tell him how good he is. for the love of fucking god.

how st characters would run the mile
mike starts out sprinting but he gives up on that after about twenty seconds. then he alternates between the world's most pathetic little jog and walking. he acts like he's just not trying but he absolutely is trying and whenever he stops jogging and walks it's because he cannot keep running or he'll die. he finishes last and collapses on the track and contemplates breaking his own ankle on purpose the next time they have to run the mile.
dustin mostly jogs it and he finishes somewhere in the back of the pack but he's not last. although if mike is struggling enough he'll hang back and walk with him in solidarity. he doesn't really care about his time or anything as long as he gets his participation points.
lucas gives it his all and properly runs because he really wants to beat his previous mile time. he finishes just under five minutes and then he chills out on the bleachers and claps and whoops whenever anyone else finishes.
will runs until he doesn't feel like it anymore and then he just jogs until he gets bored and then he runs again. he finishes somewhere in the middle of the pack and sits with lucas to cheer when other people finish except while lucas cheers for everyone, will only cheers for people he likes.
max walks the mile. she could run if she wanted to and she could probably finish somewhere in the five to six minute range but she refuses to run around in circles for some gym teacher. she still finishes before mike.
el runs her first lap and then she gets bored and lonely so whenever she comes up on max she just stops running and walks the rest of the mile with her. they have a great time. once again they both finish before mike. el cheers for him when he's done.
erica does not run the mile. she and her friends hide out under the bleachers if they can or walk the mile and talk shit about people if they can't.
argyle obviously walks the mile and hangs out with all of the gays and goths who are also walking the mile and they talk about life and love and different strains of weed. he loves it he's just hanging out.
jonathan walks the mile. in freshman year he actually kinda tried but he heard some of the jocks laughing as he jogged past them on the bleachers and so he decided to simply never try again because it was too embarrassing so he's walked ever since. they weren't even actually laughing at him they were having an entirely unrelated conversation but jonathan does not know that and refuses to run in public unless it's for his life.
steve runs the mile like he is trying to qualify for the olympics. he is always among the first five people to finish and he is always aiming to beat his last time. everybody thinks he's such an asshole showoff but after class he gives some of the slower kids tips on how to build their stamina and tells them they did a great job and nobody's ever sure if he's being sincere or if it's a bullying tactic. it isn't a bullying tactic he just genuinely wants to help people run better.
robin does her best to run the mile but by the time she's halfway through she's just out of breath and exhausted and gives up on the whole running thing and walks the rest of the way. she finishes in the back of the pack but she's okay with it because she knows she could have done better if she really tried.
nancy runs most of the mile with brief walking breaks when needed. she's among the fastest girls in school and she finishes near the front of the pack every time. she acts like she doesn't care about her mile time but one year some girl she hates beats it by six seconds and nancy genuinely wants to kill her for a moment. besides that she actually kind of likes running the mile because she beats out a lot of the guys and it makes her feel like a god.
eddie has never attended a gym class in his life.

Mike was planning on breaking up with El even before 4x01: a theory.
If Mike has a letter in his pocket for Will explaining some of his feelings, then that makes me consider a new possibility that I haven't really seen posed by anyone yet: Mike went to California with the intention of breaking up with El in person. It's hard for me to believe that Mike could be self aware enough to write down any feelings for Will and bring that letter to CA with intent to give it to Will, and not understand that he needs to break up with El before that happens. With renewed interest in Mike's sideways pocket brought on by Finn's panel yesterday, I've been thinking about how it could all make sense with Mike not coming across as a really shitty person and this is what I came up with.
With this theory, a lot of what we've been theorizing are hints from the showmakers and hints of what's going on in Mike's subconscious are actually conscious and deliberate actions and emotions from Mike, as he's aware of his feelings towards Will and was planning to make a move after breaking up with El. He realized his feelings maybe at the end in the s3 finale when he's saying goodbye to Will, maybe before, and during the time between October-March, Mike has come to understand his sexuality, accept his feelings, decided to break up with El, decided it was best to do that in person, and decided to also come out to Will and wrote his feelings down. They planned a trip for spring break and Mike plans to do this all then.
In 4x01, Mike isn't very excited to go to CA. In El's letter, she had to ask if he's excited to visit, so we know he hasn't been overly enthusiastic in his letters to El about the trip. Maybe he didn't want to be faking it too hard before he could break up with her in person. He didn't want to come home from Hellfire early for the early flight, because he's nervous. He has a dirty look about visiting his "sweetie pie." He talks to Dustin about El when comparing gf's but he doesn't mention his feelings for El because he knows that he doesn't have feelings for her anymore, he just mentions her abilities halfheartedly. He isn't sharing that he's breaking up with El because then he'd have to explain why and he's not ready yet to come out to Dustin.
Mike for the entirety of 4x02 is faking it with El because he is waiting for a quiet moment alone at the Byers house to break up with El. Of course he's not going to do it in front of Will, Jonathan, and Argyle, and he's going to fake the relationship until he can break it off because he doesn't want it to be too weird until he can explain everything in private. That's why he has the sunglasses on for their only kiss, that's why he's avoiding eye contact, that's why he deliberately ends the hug as soon as possible to show her the flowers, and that's why he can't quite fake interest in what El is saying all day. He's nervous, jittery, feels guilty, and can't focus.
I'm guessing that Will's painting throws a wrench in Mike's plan and lowers his confidence a little bit, makes him doubt himself. He's nervous around Will and standoffish because he knows what he plans to do later in the week (give the letter to Will, come out, and express his feelings) and he feels under the microscope, interacting with Will for the first time in person since realizing his feelings, doubly so with El there. Thinking that Will has a crush on a girl contributes to Mike second guessing his choice to breakup with El throughout the entire season. Because if he's going to give Will his letter, he already is worried that Will might be mad or homophobic, and on top of that, if Will's crushing on some girl too then Mike knows it'll be a rejection from the get-go. Maybe Mike had some kind of hope his feelings were reciprocated, but likely not. Mike is, after all, clueless, even in this scenario.
So Mike has his plan and sticks with it until he sees El get bullied and realizes how much she's struggling in CA. Maybe he'd been feeling like because she was doing so well in CA (lots of friends, doing well in school, liking CA, having the Byers as a family), she didn't need him anymore, that was the sign that she was in a good place to take the news of the breakup well. But when he realized that almost none of that was true and she was not doing well at all, he backpedaled hard, and Mike 'Savior Complex' Wheeler decided to stick with El for a bit longer because just like in s1, he can't abandon El when she needs him.
And Mike and Will's fight at Rink o Mania is even more multifaceted if we're looking at it from this theory: Mike is upset at Will for not telling him El was having trouble because he was readying himself to hurt El, let her down, and be free to pursue his own happiness or at least tell Will the truth about him. Finding out that El's been struggling immediately pulls the rug out from that hope about his plans for the week. Along with all of the hurt feelings both ways about not keeping in touch, Mike also feels extra defensive about not sending letters and "we're friends" because he is so conscious of not wanting to cross a boundary in his relationship with El. He overcorrects in the fight because he's so anxious about it all and ends up lashing out because everything about the situation is upsetting.
In 4x03, he continues lashing out at the dinner table at El. At breakfast the next morning, he's ignoring Will because he's making some decisions about how to proceed with his plan and he's still feeling hurt about their fight. When Mike goes to El's room, he says "so are we just not going to talk about it? I dont know, just maybe like yesterday... or everything." Implying he was open to talking about their relationship as a whole, not just what happened at Rink o Mania. But El makes it clear that she doesn't feel like she belongs anywhere and that everyone looks at her like a monster. He does not feel like he can break up with her when she is in such a vulnerable and lonely place. And when she confronts him about not saying "I love you," Mike acts colder and he comes up with ridiculous excuses because he knows he hasn't been saying it, he has a reason and was ready to explain that reason less than 24 hours ago, he was expecting to finally speak his truth, but now he feels like he has to lie in order to protect El's feelings. He's not acting terribly because he's a horrible, mean bf that went right to gaslighting El, he is making shit up on the fly because he wasn't even planning to be her bf at this point. He had planned a breakup speech, he didn't want to have to continue faking the relationship.
And then things further escalate, in which El needs more help. She needs to be rescued from jail, and rescued from Nina. Mike feels like she needs him, and that's why so much of Mike's relationship with El takes a weird parental slant: he's staying with her at this point because he thinks she needs him to be constant in her life when other things are so hard for her right now. He thinks that without her powers and with her struggling in CA, she needs him for emotional support but also physical protection.
In 4x04, El goes off with Owens and leaves Mike a letter: she's becoming a superhero again, from El. Mike is relieved she's getting her powers as she won't need him as much for protection once she returns. But he's also concerned for her safety with Owens.
Mike knows that it might be months before he sees El again, according to Owen's people. Mike tries to hint to Will where he's at in his relationship with El ("a fight you can't come back from") without outright saying that he was planning to break up with her, while also feeling incredibly conflicted because he thinks El needs him ('maybe if I'd said that thing, said I love you, El would have let me protect her and be with her at Nina. I was ready to break up with her but I don't want her alone or hurt or scared'). But he is feeling uncomfortable because he already knows an "I love you" is a lie so far from his plans for the week, which is why he looks so so upset at Will saying "you can just say whatever it is then." He planned for it to be over already, and now he might be stuck in this place with El for several more months. He tosses the letter out because he's already mentally broke up with her and it's a reminder of being stuck in the relationship for even longer.
In Will's bedroom, this theory could put Mike's line "maybe I was worrying too much about El" into context that makes more sense for me at least. If he was planning on breaking up with her already, he knows that he was worrying too much before in s3 when he didn't really love her and maybe after that he was worrying too much about breaking up with her, and didn't want to blur the lines with Will too much by keeping in touch more than he thought was appropriate without emotionally cheating until he could see El in person to break up. And "I have no idea what's going to happen next:" Mike isn't sure what's going to happen with his plan to break up with El or when he'll get to do that, but he wants to let Will know of where his head is until then: right next to Will. He doesn't want to continue pushing away Will in fear of losing out on an opportunity with him forever when El might be gone for months. He can't say it yet because he's not single but he wants to make sure it's within reach when he can break up with El.
During 4x05, Mike nods when Will is talking to him on the car because that resonates exactly with his plan for the week: breaking up with El and telling Will how he feels, two pieces of info that Mike thinks likely won't be received well. But he's still terrified of El being hurt or killed, especially from what Argyle said.
In 4x06, Mike feels uncomfortable at Suzie's not just because it's a religious household and he's hiding his sexuality, but also from Suzie's explanation of her guilt from doing something wrong and getting punished. Mike feels he's doing something wrong in continuing to lie to El too, both if he lies and tells her he loves her and stays with her until she's in a better place or just in his lie to not breakup immediately once he knew it was over, even if it was just in a letter.
In 4x08, in the van scene, Mike looks so uncomfortable after Will says they can play D&D for the rest of their lives because he's worried about losing El as a friend after breaking up (El won't want to play and joke around about going to Vegas or do fun things like that with him anymore because she'll be too mad, not be understanding about him liking Will) and/or he's worried about being stuck in the relationship with El if she keeps needing him, and not being able to live his life with Will.
Mike says "what if she doesnt need me anymore" because he's imagining a time when he can break up with her, Will says "of course she'll still need you, she'll always need you" and Mike says "I keep telling myself that but I don't believe it." He keeps talking himself out of breaking up with her because he thinks she still needs him, but he doesn't believe it. He knows she'll be okay, but he's terrified of breaking up with her and putting himself out there with Will.
When Mike calls El Superman and calls himself just some random nerd, not Lois Lane, maybe he's not feeling inferior or like he can't save her when he wants to, maybe it's relief that she's usually so much more powerful than him, and so him being a random nerd lets him off the hook from feeling responsible for saving her, which also let's him off the hook for staying in a romantic relationship with her in his mind. "Some day she's going to realize:" he's waiting for her to understand that she'll be okay without their romantic relationship. He's not fated or destined to care for her. It was dumb luck and if she can take care of herself, he doesn't need to force himself to stay in that high pressure role of both feeling responsible for another person and also faking romance anymore. Will says "you're scared of losing her" and Mike agrees because he is terrified of losing her friendship, terrified of her hating him for being honest.
And then Will piles on, stressing how much El does need him. Mike looks frustrated by this at times, looking more negative every time Will brings up El. Mike looks nervous about El preferring the bandaid to be ripped off, thinking about his plan to breakup. Mike, of course, does get distracted, maybe imagining Will could be talking about himself and he gets distracted by Will's lips, but he's trying to stay focused.
They reunite with El, and Mike sees that in a lot of ways El doesn't need him to save her anymore, she saves herself now that she has her powers back. He ensures that their reunion isn't more romantic than it has to be: no kiss and he points out the others being there fairly quickly. In the van, Mike is still focused on keeping her safe though, trying to divert her attention to people after them and keeping her secure, but she shoots him down, stating that they need to focus on the others. More of El showing that she doesn't need him that Mike sees.
After the rescue, Mike keeps his distance from El for a bit, choosing to stand next to Will instead of El at the gas station, once they enter Surfer Boy. At Surfer Boy, El and Mike have their conversation. And tbh, even through this theory, it's still kind of up in the air as far as if Mike was about to break up with El here or not. He's feeling more confident at this point that she doesn't need him, but the doubts are still there, he would want to do it somewhere private anyway, and Will's words about her feelings are still on his mind. I don't think he was about to breakup with her, but he knew whatever he was about to say (I love you) would be a lie so he stalled.
When El was choking, Will pushes Mike to speak to El, and Mike saw that he was needed, and so he finally said it. He said I love you and I think that most of/the entire speech was true. Mike does love El platonically, and he can't quite bring himself to lie about loving her romantically, so he doesn't even try. "Friends don't lie." He's sneaky about it and only addresses loving her platonically. But he talks about how he loves her as a friend and I think most of what he said is true in some way.
"I'm sorry I don't say it more, it's not because I'm scared of you." True, that's not why he doesn't say it. "I'm scared that one day you'll realize you don't need me anymore. And I thought if I said how I felt, it would somehow make that day hurt more." Mike is scared of losing El in his life platonically, and he's scared when he tells her how he feels (breaks up with her) and if she doesn't need him at all even as a friend, she'll just drop him completely. He wants to maintain their friendship still, so he is scared of losing her. He cares for her so much and he doesn't want to live without her. She's one of his closest friends for the last few years. He loved that she was able to help him save Will, he loved meeting a "superhero" when he was a young kid. He hypes up her powers because he does think her powers are cool and he's also super excited that she has them back because she doesn't need him as much with them, and that's his way out of the romantic relationship.
Mike is being genuine while conveniently avoiding any romantic sentiment, meanwhile El is hearing everything she didn't want to hear from Mike. This isn't the romantic or familial love she wants: dependent on her powers.
El failing to save Max and to defeat Henry is yet another blow to Mike feeling like El is in a good enough place to breakup with her. She's been quiet and he knows this isn't the right time to hurt her more. He provides some quiet support on the car ride, at the hospital. He doesn't recognize that she's angry with him at Hopper's cabin. He's feeling for her and her struggles and he's focused on his own feelings and guilt about getting them both trapped in this situation where he feels he can't be honest with anyone.
And that's it! In s5, I'm still expecting El to break up with Mike. She'll confront his lack of romantic feelings and he'll be honest and it will be tough but El will accept him and they won't lose each other. And then Mike will make his move on Will.
Pros of this theory: fits in really well with Mike recognizing that he's in a parental role and wanting to get out of that. Emphasis on how much Mike cares about El platonically. Can tie in the letter in Mike's pocket theory without it feeling too emotional-cheat-y. Fits with Mike realizing he liked Will at end of s3. Takes Mike out of the role of "jfc what a horrible bf" and more into the role of "he wanted to breakup but cares for El and didn't want to kick her while she was down" and can explain some of his more shitty behavior toward El and Will. Can still line up with Mike being clueless according to Finn: clueless that El doesn't need him like he thinks she does and clueless that his feelings are reciprocated by Will. Makes the love speech a bit more bearable.
Cons of this theory: complicated and hard to explain the nuances to the GA without explaining every single thing. Might lack some of the emotional weight behind Mike realizing his feelings all of a sudden on screen, as well as getting rid of some of the internalized homophobia subtext as Mike is already accepting of his feelings (pineapple pizza, etc). There isn't a ton/any obvious evidence of this being Mike's plan, outside of this just being one option leading to Byler endgame. Doesn't really utilize Will's painting lie to its full extent.
I'd love to hear your thoughts! Viable option to consider? No?

Nancy crosses her arms over her chest as soon as she gets in the car, Steve beside her turning the engine on as they head out into town from Hopper’s cabin. Was it maybe a little bit of a bad idea to be alone with him only a handful of days after his big confession in the woods? Probably. But she was feeling claustrophobic and suffocated inside the small space, and things between her and Jonathan were growing more and more tense by the minute- especially after their big blowout when his friend spilled the beans about his college acceptance letter. Robin was just going to talk her ear off about it, the kids were shooting her sympathetic glances her way at every moment, and truly, genuinely, she just really wants to sit in a comfortable, if not slightly awkward, silence with Steve.
They’re going on a supply run- groceries, guns, and gadgets, in their preparation for the looming apocalypse. She watches the trees around them get less and less dense as they pull out towards the main road, and she leans forward to turn on the radio to curb some of the tension hanging between them.
“'Cause I can't fight this feeling anymore
I've forgotten what I started fighting for
And if I have to crawl upon the floor-“
Nancy switches to another channel immediately.
“-a little bit closer
You're my kind of man
So big and so strong
Come a little bit closer-“
Click.
“When you love someone
It feels so right, so warm and true
I need to know if you feel it-“
She gives up on the idea entirely and turns it off, sinking back into her seat while she pretends to stare outside, at her chipping nail polish, anywhere but over at him. The hand he has on the steering wheel flexes, knuckles whitening before he relaxes the grip, and she can see out of her peripheral that he’s glancing over her way.
“Thought you liked the last one. At least, you did once,” he comments. A memory flashes to the forefront of her mind: the summer between her sophomore and junior year, when they’d been cruising the backroads of Hawkins together. Both of them singing the Foreigner song at the top of their lungs to each other, her holding an imaginary microphone and his stupid sunglasses balanced on the long slope of his nose. It makes her lips tug up on the edges when she remembers it, the tight hug she’s wrapped herself in loosening a little as her shoulders relax.
“No, you liked that one. I learned the lyrics after I saw it on one of your mixtapes,” the confession slips off her tongue before she can stop it and a flush rises to her fair skin, but she’s grinning out the windshield and sneaks a glance in his direction. Steve looks downright pleased with himself once he learns this, drumming his thumb against the car as they make a turn at the stop sign. With a resolved sigh, she turns the radio back on, but they just catch the tail end of the tune, and she can’t help but feel a little disappointed by it. Story of her life lately, it seems, as some Pat Benatar song plays next. There’s always some kind of interruption for them recently, and she’s torn between being grateful for it, and a little desperate to rip the bandaid off, to choke out the words that have been playing around in her brain for days.
“Four kids. And two dogs,” Nancy whispers in a voice so soft she prays he won’t catch it. But he is tuned into her, hanging on every word she will offer, and he slams on the brakes in the middle of the road, jolting them forward and then back, both of their arms coming out to brace the other automatically. They turn to look at each other, a little breathless and adrenaline making her feel dizzy without being disoriented. She blinks as they lower their hands, her initiating it first, as she folds her hands up in her lap to stare forward again while they remain unmoving. “I just- I figure six is a lot of college tuitions, you know? Four could be.. Doable. It would be a lot of work, but we could.. I don’t know. Sorry. Was this a bad time?” Nancy winces at herself, her smile turning sheepish.
“No!” Steve says it a little too quickly and scrubs his fingers back through his hair- a nervous tick before he presses down on the gas pedal again, moving the car at a snails pace like he wants to prolong every moment they will get alone. “No, that’s- it’s not a bad time at all.”
“I’m not promising anything right now,” she warns, reaching up to fix her curls behind her ears. “I just wanted to.. throw it out there. Test the waters on how you might feel about something like that. If your dream is set in stone, or…” Letting the words trail off, she props her elbow up on the car door to balance her chin in her palm, her brow scrunched together while she takes in the black smoke polluting the sky, making everything dark and ominous.
“It’s not set in stone at all, Nance. It’s a team project, not a solo mission. Not at all,” he murmurs as downtown Hawkins comes into view, the military in full swing guarding the remaining civilians left. They’ll have to put a pause on the conversation as they carefully approach the local grocer, but for now.. For now, there is a weight lifted off her heart, and for the first time in quite a while, Nancy and Steve let themselves hope.

Leverage Mark Showdown -- Second Heat Contestants
Where the nominator left comments (or fun extra descriptors), I'm including their comments, cause those are way better than what I'd come up with. Where they didn't leave comments, you'll have to settle for mine :P
Jack Lattimer The Radio Job, The Last Dam Job (also sort of most of Season 4) Hes a background guy, just barley staying relevant but also managing to be a pain in the ass to Nate and the crew, but he's not as much of a threat as Damien Moreau, but still stays in the background disrupting htings and giving the crew a hard time purely beciase he wasts a few extra bucks. Hes a bad gys that feels realistic an investor who found a way to cheat the system to benefit himself.
Jimmaaay Jimmy Jimmy Ford The Three Card Monte Job go grandpa
Dr. Anne Hannity The Inside Job That cocky/confident shit is hot... Except for the part where she manufactures a famine. But every time she thought she had a trump card she was sexy af
Dalton Rand The Future Job he's the worst kind of loathsome esp bc he's the most directly confronted with the harm he's doing and is totally blase about it
Nicky & Heather Moscone The Wedding Job They're both great caricatures and I like that they double cross each other.
Alan Foss The Two-Horse Job He’s one of the most well-sold “cartoonishly evil immature dickbag“ characters  we encounter. I love his arrogance, his uber-hateable sexism, and the over the top reactions he makes are so much fun to watch him get angry about. Damien Moreau, "IF WE MUST" The Big Bang Job, The San Lorenzo Job - specifically for the bathrobe and flipflops and being carefully staged to not look like everyone around him is normal human size, bless him - silly charming terrifying bastard man. can't believe this hasn't been done yet.
Retzing & Sons The Snow Job Dysfunctional crime family getting synergistically worse the more they try to deal with each other. Also I get excited every time I see my boy Jonathan from Buffy
Meredith The Lonely Hearts Job Man, she actually almost did our heroes in, didn't she? I love her grudging respect for Sophie, like she is genuinely into the art of grifting and willing to acknowledge being bested
James Kanack The First Contact Job He could have just been another rich and successful asshole. But no, that wasn't enough for him. HE HAD TO TALK TO ALIENS.
Mitchell Kirkwood The Studio Job Dude was a charming psycho, I'd let him murder me for my songs 😍 Plus watching his face break was 😚 Divine 😚
Hugh Whitman The Gone Fishin' Job Yeah, you know, let's do some regular debt collection fraud and also fund an entire militia out in the woods behind the bank, that seems normal, right?
Larry Duberman The Reunion Job what if there was a nerd who had sometbing sooooooooo wrong with them. also his actor was in big eden i got really excited when i recognized him
Wendy Baran The Gimme a K Street Job - okay I cave, you got me with this one. You're gonna have to send some propaganda, cause the nominator didn't say anything and i literally remember nothing about this character except she thinks breaking teenage girls' necks is a fun way to make money - Update! The nominator says: - Okay I said Baran bc I hate her so very much -  And she’s a girlboss (derogatory)
Andrew Grant The Miracle Job Love the energy, love the way he threw a wrench in their plans by being even more of a sleazy money grubber than they expected (and more creative about it!), and yeah, he's another one that I actually feel kinda bad for cause playing on his anxiety was LOW.
Irina Larenko The Stork Job She was such a ditzy cunt, I hated her but I loved watching her on screen. Kinda cute in a way idk plus her main muscle was kinda unfff

That one anon really thought they did something. Also calling Robin Steve's property is so weird because 70% of Robin's tag is about Nancy and the majority of r*nance fics are about how Robin benefits Nancy. How Nancy can overcome trauma and be saved from heterosexual relationships.
Like you said Steve wouldn't force Robin to do anything, his entire character is about making sure other characters are happy even if it's on the expense of his own happiness. If you think Robin would be bossed around by Steve you purposefully misunderstand their entire dynamic. It was literally her idea to combine with him because they are platonic soulmates. And again Steve would never tell people what to do (other than in dangerous situations when he tries to keep others save).
Robin will always choose Steve, if you want r*nance to work Steve can't exist in that universe. That or they literally have to break off their friendship because you can't have both. I lost a friend because she dated my ex. We were really close but it's one of those things you can't really get over.
Also tbh personality wise, they just don't match. The fandom also makes Nancy a lot sweeter than she actually is the show, same goes for Steve before people come for me. They overlook her flaws like the show does, so when you point out okay well she actually would behave this way in certain situations according how she behaved in canon, people will jump you and say oh no you just hate her she's actually not bad. This is especially true for stancy, the way people just overlook the fact that she emotionally cheated on Steve for a year and then slept with Jonathan while they were still together. And before people say well Tommy said they broke up, Tommy doesn't speak to Steve or Nancy anymore, he doesn't know their relationship only rumours because they had one fight. And Jonathan's and Nancy both acknowledged Steve as Nancy's boyfriend minutes before they had sex so yeah. Again, if she was a man in that instance, nobody would excuse her actions.
In the end I don't see Nancy hanging out with the people outside the whole UD business. She'll leave the town as soon as it's possible and then nobody will hear from her again. The people I see still hanging out with each other in the future are Steve and Robin because they love each other. And Steve and Dustin because they are brothers. Also Max, Lucas and Dustin will stay in touch definitely.
god, i know. they really saw that we think robin cares about her friends feelings, and equated that to steve owning robin?? and yeah so much i’ve read about r//nance is about nancy. about how robin would help nancy develop and nancy needs to explore her sexuality. like… i hate any ship where one character is forced to play therapist for their partner.
if either of them is bossing around the other, it is robin bossing around steve, he literally drives her to school every day not even knowing she doesn’t have a licence. and yeah, steve is the kind of character who continuously does stuff he doesn’t really want to do to try and protect his friends.
sucks that that happened to you, but yeah, it just isn’t something you can get past. i do think it’s because steve is a guy that they have less empathy for him when it comes to his love life. nancy and he broke up just a little over a year ago. if it was a couple decades down the line it might be different (though i kinda doubt it), but even so, robin will always choose steve. like you said, they’re soulmates. in order for r//nance to work, steve literally needs to not exist (though if steve doesn’t exist, robin and nancy would have literally nothing to talk about.
i totally agree that people try to rewrite nancy to make her mesh better with other characters, honestly the st fandom does it with nearly every single character. babygirl steve, for example. people try to rewrite that he’s bitchy, he lashes out when he feels shoved into a corner (though always apologises), they make him super feminine and weak, when steve is probably one of the most masculine characters on the show. and yes! it’s insane how if you even dare to slightly criticise nancy, you hate her, you’re a misogynist, like please! you can love a character and recognise they have flaws!
i find it so funny when people point to billy and tommy making fun of steve as proof they’d broken up. like tommy is the authority on their relationship? especially because, like you said, half an hour before she has sex with jonathan, she is adamant she is in love with steve. if they’d broken up, why would she do that? but yeah, steve being the guy means people try to excuse everything nancy did wrong in that relationship.
totally agree. like, hawkins is the centre of everything that went wrong in nancy’s life. and it’s like, so many people say steve and nancy could never be together, because he reminds her of her trauma with barb’s death, and if that’s true, then i doubt nancy will want anything to do with any of them. and yeah, the only people not blood related that i really see being engaged in each others lives (other than occasionally reunions and stuff) is steve and robin, and then the party. obviously with steve staying in contact with max, dustin and lucas, specifically (in my dream version of stranger things where hopper and steve have a, like, fatherly relationship, they’d stay in touch, but that’s not canon lol).
also, i kinda see nancy becoming a murray kind of reporter, so she can’t really keep in contact when she’s breaking into government facilities and revealing all their secrets.
anyway, totally agree with all your points, and i’m so tired of getting told i hate nancy because i dare to point out that she isn’t a great girlfriend

Thinking 'bout everyone else's thoughts on Jonathan's situation in Peanut Gallery instead of sleeping-
Joseph was expecting Gramps to be like, this figure he could never live up to, that's kinda how it was for him with all the stories of Jonathan - but instead Jonathan is humble and that kindness hits different first-hand and it's not like it's effortless for him either like the stories would have Joseph believe - and then Jonathan lets down his guard a bit, lets show just how terrified he is of the inevitable approaching death, of how he failed the family, and... Joseph can't help but desperately want to help somehow, even if it's impossible.
Jotaro was angry at first. Didn't quite know how to feel about All This and it translated into anger at Jonathan for failing, for leaving all this to his descendants. And eventually he yells at Jonathan about as much to his face. And Jonathan just takes it. Agrees with him, even. And then he starts to see, the little hints that Jonathan really isn't as okay as he seems, subtle hints that are kind of the same way Jotaro expresses shit, and- But he's doomed. Might as well be dead already. And Jotaro acts like it doesn't bother him.
Josuke isn't as drawn into all this drama at first, Jonathan's just fun to be around and a total sweetheart, nice, cool. No complicated feelings. But towards the end he gets a glimpse of just how much is hiding under that Perfect Gentleman act, how hard Jonathan is trying to help all the others, and the 'im the healer I'm responsible for everyone's wellbeing' thing kicks in. But it's too late. Just like it was for his own grandpa.
Giorno, hoo boy. He's so happy to know he has a father who loves him unconditionally, who would've done anything to be with him and help and take care of him, and a bit bitterly resigned to Jonathan's death- of course the only positive parental figure he could've hoped for was dead a century ago, unsavable even now. But he recognizes how complicated this must be on Jonathan's end and keeps his distance as so not to be a bother, and Jonathan assumes Gio doesn't want to deal with him and so keeps HIS distance, till close to the end, when Jonathan decides he has to at least get closure with his son before going to his inevitable death. And he tells Giorno how much he loves him just for being his son, how proud he is, how much he wishes he could've been there, everything Giorno desperately wanted to hear, but they both know it won't, can't, amount to anything, that Jonathan won't get the chance to act on his promises and love.
Jolyne's probably the most removed from the whole Situation. It's a tragedy, but one she's less involved in than the rest. She's not there during Stone Ocean with the peanut gallery when the fact that /he's going to die and SOON/ really starts to fully sink in for Jonathan, generations removed from him in the bloodline. But he was still kind, and caring, and apologized profusely for leaving so much of the fight left for her, and even if she was entirely unconnected to him she'd want better for him.
And in the end, in the new timeline, in the vague part 6 time period, the entire family gets to be there and together with full memories of the time traveling peanut gallery adventure -
All 5 of them.
All of them except Jonathan.
YESSSSSSSSSSSS
Oh I love all this so much
Joseph's heard so much about his grandfather. How he was kind and brave and sweet and strong and so many things that built him up as this paragon of a human being. Erina and Speedwagon made sure Joseph knew all about the things Jonathan did, and upon meeting him, while it becomes very obvious they weren't exaggerating in the slightest....... watching Jonathan fight Dio and meeting him in person also makes it clear he's just that. A person. Just like his granny and uncle, Jonathan can hurt and make mistakes and be scared. He was just a good person thrown into awful situations and decided to stay kind despite everything being thrown at him
Jotaro....... with him it's more complicated. Going in to Jonathan's journey knowing he wouldn't win....... it sucked. Knowing that his story wasn't a happy one, knowing that no matter what happened he was doomed to fail, knowing that because of Dio's fuckery he never got his happily ever after was eating him up. Dio's the source of almost all his anger, at how many lives this bastard has destroyed just because he wasn't satisfied with what he gained and wanted more. Unfortunately for Jotaro and everyone in the general vicinity, there isn't a whole lot Jotaro can do to deal with this anger and he accidentally ends up lashing out at Jonathan a few times during the Battle Tendency portion of everything.
Emotions are running high, everyone's still a bit shaken from Jonathan's death, Jotaro's stressing out about his turn being next, and it just. Doesn't go well for anyone. He does chill out a solid amount after Stardust, and Jonathan and Joseph are able to help him work through the grief of losing a close friend. He does apologize, and slowly starts trying to help Jonathan stop blaming himself for everything that went down
Josuke and Jolyne are definitely the most disconnected from all the Jonathan Drama. Sure they're worried about him because they're Good People Who Care, but it doesn't go much deeper than a family bond. Josuke had essentially zero ties with Dio specifically, and Jolyne doesn't blame Jonathan in the slightest for anything he "indirectly" caused. They want Jonathan to be happy and don't really understand the drama, but they do their best to mediate and help out the others when they need it
but then on the COMPLETE other end of the spectrum we have Giorno and ho fucking boy are things complicated here :)
Jonathan is both absolutely overjoyed and absolutely heartbroken that Giorno is his son. On one hand, why wouldn't he be happy? This boy is his son, and he is going to love him regardless of everything. But on the other, the crushing knowledge that his time with Giorno is so very limited and the fears that the boy might not even reciprocate this love. This is of course very not true, Giorno is 110% up for bonding with Jonathan but he's also dealing with the complications that came with his...... conception. How he isn't really Jonathan's kid, that he's Dio's instead and Dio was the one who made the choice to be with his mother, etc, etc
speaking off....... the Dio realization isn't going to be fun for ANYONE. No one blames Giorno of course, but it shakes everyone up, Giorno the most. After all, he's seen the horrors this man has done to innocent people, to his family. How his influence spread long after his death and continued to hurt and kill people for literal generations
Of course, there is some confusion from everyone for a bit because "wait, how does Giorno have the Joestar birthmark then???"....... except for Jotaro. He knows Dio stole Jonathan's body, but isn't quite sure how to bring it up since....... yeah
but eventually, probably with some nudging from everyone else, Jonathan and Giorno start to interact more. They talk, about their lives, what they like, about each other, and slowly begin to truly bond. The others do what they can to let the two spend the most time possible together so they can just....... enjoy it
when Giorno remembers, the first thing he does is change his name from Giorno Kujo to Giorno Joestar and visit his father's grave

jancy in journalism
jancy would be such a powerhouse couple in the journalism field bc both already went through so much shit that dangerous things just don't phase them anymore. exposing hawkin's lab? that was just the first of many. they would be the first people on the scene getting stories, taking photo evidences and making sure that the media and powerful people don't get to cover it up. Nancy, with her extreme sense of justice (that sometimes it's dangerous to both herself and others) would do anything to get these stories out so victims would get justice. she ensures that every bit of relevant detail is recorded on audio, paper, photos, and video if possible and makes multiple copies and stores it in various, obscure places that she only tells a select few so that if one is destroyed or stolen, she has back-ups. if plan 1-3 falls through, you can bet she has back-up plans for back-up plans. nancy numbers her plans because the alphabet only has 26 letters.
jonathan climbing to dangerous places and getting up close and personal so he'd not only get the best shot, but the most accurate and showing people evidence of what happened. since this would be the late 80s-90s, photoshop isn't really a common thing yet so photos and videos are really the irrefutable evidence. nancy is so proud of jonathan whenever he publishes his photos because while written words can be fake, photos can't (at that point in time). he takes up video-recording as well, and spends a lot of his time improving his skills on taking the best photo/video in record timing so nancy's efforts in contacting victims, getting them into these exclusive but dangerous opportunities are not wasted once the time to get the word out comes.
at first, jonathan wasn't willing to go through this with nancy. he wanted to do rock photojounalism, he wants to listen to music and learn about the bands he interviews because they are what got him through life all these years. music was his only escape for so long and he wants to know why, why does he love it so much? why do they love it so much to make it their lives? but then jonathan thinks about el and her lost siblings, about will and his mom, about himself, that if only they received that kind of support and voice to get help for themselves, and maybe they wouldn't even be in hawkins at this point. maybe el would've been jane and moved away with her mother and they would've never met, and the upside down would've never seeped into hawkins because el never opened the gate. while in the grand scheme of things, a poor family from a small town abused by the man in the house wasn't the most tragic thing in the entire world when you think about the upside down or those in war-ridden countries who may not even make it the next day, but then jonathan remembers those days he went hungry because joyce got sick and couldn't work her regular hours and he gave his food to will, who was so small and sensitive and got sick often. or when what hurt the most wasn't when lonnie beat him or burned his cigarettes on him, but it was seeing him joke around with the officers when joyce finally got her courage to call 911 just for them to laugh at her and call her crazy, that maybe she was the one who put those bruises and just didn't remember.
it was this kind of corrupt power that seems to get into the hands of the worst people that jonathan thinks maybe he can understand a little bit. that maybe he wanted other people to not feel this way or go through this anymore. he got out, so why can't they? if they need just a bit more help, why not? after all, they've all got shared trauma, what's a little more?
their families and friends are worried for them as they travel to dangerous places because unlike the upside-down, these are humans. they're powerful, power-hungry people that would do anything to keep their position, and they're human, unpredictable and have done more evil things than eating people. they're people who can turn an entire country against two 20-somethings from hawkins, indiana, and most importantly, their families and friends can't be with them if that happens. they can't fight through this with brute force because it's the military, it's words, it's power and politics and who-knows-who. no one from hawkins has that kind of power no matter if they saved the world three times already, no matter if they did more for the world than these wannabe leaders that only care for themselves.
anyways jancy as a power couple not only in hawkins but the WORLD. i always thought nancy would make a great investigative or political journalist that won awards and almost die a good handful each year because have you seen her??? and jonathan would tag along bc he admires her ambition and secretly always wanted to help others and make good changes in the world even if he acts aloof and timid. but then i thought closer about it and ofc why wouldn't he???? he's felt powerless all his life and was controlled by the societal circumstances that perpetuates poverty and abuse, and jonathan thought he'd continue the cycle in s4 because that's the only thing he can do with the resources he thought he has. but he just doesn't realize he doesn't have to be stuck! he has a loving family, friends, and hush money from the government definitely helps a lot now. s4 jonathan is a a different person in a different position from s1 jonathan. so he realizes this as he got older and then upside down was finally dealt with and gone, and he's like, wow! i can do something about my life AND other's life! i only got to this point with support, and if i can do it it, others can do with a little help. also, nancy is ambitious and smart af and has so much righteous anger in her small little body that all she needs is a supportive partner. if that partner shares the same values as her and is willing to put in the world, what's changing the world compared to saving it?

Can't stop thinking of Boyfriend by Dove Cameron when thinking about Byergrove [because of Stonathan]:
Headcanon for Byergrove: Just to be clear, I LOVE Stonathan and always will. It was my first ST ship and it is my favorite one and I love Steve, so don't take offense to this; in certain parts I'm only trying to get into Billy's mindset and show his perspective on it, its not my own personal opinion about Steve.
Jonathan and Billy meet when Max and Will become close. Max feels alone and like an outsider in her own friend group and Will feels the same way, so when Max realizes, she quickly connects with Will and they become besties [and El is included in their best friend group of course].
Billy and Jonathan both had abusive dads and would understand what the other is going through. Billy would finally feel like he could connect to someone and would appreciate Jonathan's existance alone. While Jonathan would finally have a friend who understands and appreciates him [which Jonathan really needs considering he is hated by most people in Hawkins just for being a Byers]. Since Jonathan is wiser and has been overcoming that abuse all on his own, he'd be the one helping Billy through his, not the other way around, but its ok because he likes feeling needed and wanted.
Jonathan would give Billy one of his famous speeches and instantly get through to him in a way no one else has before and Billy would keep coming back for more speeches, not entirely sure why.
Jonathan would show Billy how to be a supportive older brother to Max like how he is to Will whether he actually shows him how or Billy sees Jonathan and Will together and how they interact and changes how things are between him and Max. Jonathan inspires Billy to be better. If Jonathan was abused and can be a great big brother to his younger sibling than why can't he? Jonathan makes him a better person.
Billy continues his rivalry with Steve by going after Jonathan/flirting with him all the time especially when Steve is around. He automatically scoffs when he learns that Jonathan is dating someone like Steve Harrington of all people when Jonathan could be with someone much better: him [obviously]. Steve couldn't possibly understand Jonathan or protect him from people [Billy would know] and before they got together, Steve had been bullying him for the last decade. Billy never bullied Jonathan for years like Steve had, so he'd instantly be one up on Steve. Plus, Billy knows hes better looking and superior to Steve in every conceivable way.
When Billy finally meets Jonathan, he is kind of surprised. Hes heard a lot about Jonathan from around school and especially from Tommy H., but Jonathan isn't anything like they said he was. It was a lot of insults and badmouthing coming from their classmates, but from Billy's perspective Jonathan was the only worthwhile person in this shitty town besides Karen and he knew Jonathan would thrive in a place like California which was better than Hawkins in every way. Jonathan had no filter, he used dark humour, and was sarcastic as hell and Billy liked that. Jonathan was the only person who could genuinely make him laugh. Jonathan was fun to talk to and hang out with. Billy decided Jonathan not having any friends wasn't because of the reasons that Tommy H claimed, but it was due to the fact that the people in Hawkins are just a bunch of shitheads and wouldn't know something good if it smacked them right in the face.
He still talks to Karen Wheeler [for one reason or another] When Jonathan's name is brought up, Karen makes it clear that she absolutely adores Jonathan. When she tells Billy about Jonathan she sings his praises and Billy trusts Karen's judgement a lot more than what the rest of Hawkins has been saying. Billy sees the good in Jonathan that hardly anyone else does and knows Jonathan is too good for Hawkins and finds it laughable that the people of Hawkins think about it the other way around.
Jonathan and Billy bond over sharing their love of music together and they get a lot closer while babysitting Will, El, and Max together because they are a handful. El with her powers and Will with his sass and Max just being a badass in general.
Billy will openly flirt with Jonathan whenever he sees him no matter who is around and that includes Steve.
Billy reminds Steve often enough that the moment he trips up and messes things up with Jonathan [like goes back to Nancy and leaves Jonathan behind] that he'll be there waiting to take Jonathan off his hands.
Billy is overly protective of Jonathan and would kick Lonnie's ass when he came around Jonathan or any of his family again.
Billy NEEDS someone who will worship and praise him in bed, which Jonathan happily does without being told or asked.
When he takes Jonathan's shirt off and sees the scars and Jonathan just says 'Lonnie' dismissively and in explaination of where they came from, Billy makes sure to kiss every scar as if to heal them.
Billy really loves certain things about Jonathan like how he gives these inspiring speeches about morality and the importance of love. He loves that Jonathan will cover his mouth with his hand while hes laughing softly about something. But the thing he especially especially loves about Jonathan is that hes full of surprises like the fact that Jonathan has a long list of kinks, will beg him to do stuff to him in bed, and asks for Billy to tie him to the bed.
Billy is the dominant/top and is very protective of Jonathan and doesn't think anyone else is worthy of being with Jonathan except for him because well…Billy Hargrove knows hes amazing and hes the only one great enough to be worthy of Jonathan Byers.

Every one of Jack's entries since the group has split up has come when he has news of the launch, and he spares no time for their own journey except that it's cold. It makes sense (he doesn't want to/have time to write but is keeping record of important events) but is also really sweet especially in the context of today. He's tracking his friends, even when they are out of his reach, and his urgency to push on harder, get there faster, is because they may need his help. He knows their ship had trouble, and while things seem to have turned out mostly alright it's not entirely. He must be worried for them.
Van Helsing memorandums always are much more solemn and sad than he usually seems. In large part because he only writes them when he is deeply afraid to die (or worse), but still.
the delivery of "it is cold, cold, so cold" is excellent
so too with "it seems to have affected Madam Mina". oh this man is so scared
the repetition of "sleeps and sleeps and sleeps" as well...! God, especially when we all know Mina is a light sleeper
Mina sleeping all day and being awake all night seems much more ominous now. Even though it was if anything better for Lucy, so that she could resist vampiric influence more in the night. But perhaps Mina is so far gone that her being awake at night only strengthens what is already vampiric in her...
Mina not writing is interesting too, especially if she is wide awake at night. That is time to write, time when they're not traveling or being disturbed. It makes it feel more a choice/compulsion, and thus scarier (both in afraid-for-her and afraid-of-her ways)
This is the first time Dracula's echo has followed Mina outside of the hypnotic state like this and it's TERRIFYING
AGGGGGGH A SICKENING TWIST TO THE "my Jonathan" line/title!!!!! oh god
I mean really oh my godddddd
I wonder if the time Mina sleeps and can't be woken is roughly around noon again. It is mentioned in between sunrise and sunset, but who knows.
I love all the repetitions in his account
"as though it were the end of the world" and the beginning of a new land....
oh SHIT Mina's laugh is scary
the way he says "that I forget all fear", almost sad and almost scared at his reaction, and yet I can feel how badly he wants to believe in her, how much he wants not to fear her
"but presently I forget all of watching" this delivery is SO good. he's so exhausted, but when he begins to fall asleep and then wakes to see her staring at him... is his watch failing because he is too tired, or is she exerting some kind of vampiric influence to put him to sleep? is he failing to watch for a threat out in the darkness around him, or right here next to him?
Mina's always sleeping at the wrong time now, and it's so worrying
the edge of a sob on his repeated "afraid"s. this is so good and so sad. and his determination at the end....
oh no Jonathan's voice shaking. not out of fear for himself, but misery and frustration that his prey got away because of this accident, and so Mina continues to suffer
his last words for Mina, once again <3

i think it's really important to point out how mike was raised before we talk about how he was to both el and will. karen and ted wheeler are married, we've barely seen them argue, have a nice house, money and seem at peace with each other. they may even love each other, after all they have been married for many years and have three kids together. they are, however, most certainly not IN love. we have seen them both and, honestly, if i didn't know it, i would think they're friends. mike (and nancy) didn't grow up with a wonderful love story to look up to. they didn't have an idea of what romantic love was actually like - and you can't even blame them for that. they grew up watching their parents, who had an easy relationship, comfortable, familiar. they thought that was what love was actually supposed to look like.
mike's relationship with el, in my opinion, is kind of like that. mike can't get himself to say 'i love you' (same as nancy with steve), can't have an actual spontaneous moment with her (this isn't even about byler, you just need eyes to realize how awkward each and every single one of their interactions were. el completely out of character and mike forcing almost every word he said), and is, very likely, terrified of feelings he doesn't understand. with will, however, his entire body seems to relax. he's not tense anymore, he looks and talks to him in a way that he seems to save for will and will only. he feels safe with him, he can be himself with will. like will is mike's safe place (same as with nancy and jonathan).
i genuinely think he doesn't quite realize what his feelings for him are until after the van scene - maybe even more, because man is he oblivious (i mean will literally said "you make her feel like she's not a mistake at all" and el had said "you think i'm a monster" hours before that?) he doesn't understand those feelings, but he does realize that they're strong. and persistent. he doesn't understand what those feelings are because he never saw the most important (or significant) adult relationship (his parents) have those feelings for each other. mike being with el has, so far, been safe, easy, familiar, comfortable, expected. mike being with will is everything but those words. mike with will is kind of what nancy found in jonathan. nancy found those feelings she may not have had with steve in jonathan. i think something similar may be happening to mike. he's terrified of it, so he just pretends that everything's the same, that nothing has or will change.
i think there's also an important connection in what mike and will say to each other first in lenora and then in the van. when mike apologizes to will, he says "it felt like i'd lost you" and then will says "she's scared of losing you, just like you're scared of losing her" (although we know will was not talking about el, but about his own feelings). i think mike doesn't see that will is trying to actually tell him, but i do believe he gets the feeling that those are will's feelings, not el's - not only because of the painting, but because he knows will. and he looks at him like that and it's just. love, you know?

You know I spend an outrageous amount of time thinking about our favorite extended/blended/found/chosen family and all the individual relationship dynamics are really fun, but the one pair I can't quite figure out is Murray + El. He definitely gets along with Jonathan and would look out for/connect with Will bc of Will's queer identity, but what about El? Personality-wise I don't know that they'd vibe, and I can see her being kind of protective of her family unit. Idk I want them to bond, but how?
OKAY SO I ACTUALLY HAVE THOUGHT ABOUT THIS AND I THINK I'VE FOUND SOMETHING FOR MURRAY AND EL TO BOND OVER.
I think while all of the characters at this point are very anti-government in a lot of ways (God knows they've all been fucked over by it), Murray is obviously the one who is the most outspokenly so, and I think he'd take one look at El and not hesitate to make sure she's aware that it's not just Brenner, and that the entire system is broken. I think El and the others have really had a habit of looking at things as "Brenner is the bad guy, the rest of the government are the Good Guys", but especially after season 4, that's all been shaken up to hell and back, and I think Murray would be one of the first people to try and teach her that she should never trust authority.
I also think that if she expresses interest, he'd be happy to show her all of his notes and research and stories about all of the fucked up shit the government has done-- especially concerning human experiments, because it's not like the HNL kids are the only people that's ever happened to. I think she would be hesitant at first, but might develop some morbid interest in comparing and contrasting her story and all the other stories she's seen and I think it could be a little therapeutic for her if she doesn't let it go too far.
Murray also lived/worked in Chicago at one point-- so I'm just throwing it out there that it isn't entirely unlikely he's crossed paths with Kali and/or her crew at some point if they spend a lot of time there, which is a whole other idea to explore.

I think it's interesting how we never really see Will's life from his own perspective? The only times I can really think of off of the top of my head are when he's destroying Castle Byers in season 3 (a scene in which his anger and hurt override any rational emotions) and some of the scenes in season 4 when he's talking to Mike about "El" (he's obviously talking about himself in these scenes, but there's still this sense of detachment because he's making it seem like he's talking about El, so even though he's talking about his own thoughts and feelings, he's still not really talking about himself?)
Like, he's trapped in the Upside Down for the majority of season 1 so we only really learn about him from Joyce talking to Hopper and Jonathan's flashbacks. Tbh I can't really remember the rest of the party talking about Will that much, just about how to find him. We also learn that the mean kids in school used to bully him for being gay, and we learn that Lonnie cared so little about him that he didn't care when he went missing for a week and was presumed dead. The only time in s1 that we really see him on his own is at the very end when he vomits up the slug and sees the Upside Down again, an event which he hides completely from his family and friends.
Then in s2, sure, he's there, but he's basically possessed for half the season! The only things he himself expresses are that he's scared of the Mind Flayer and that he feels comfortable around Bob. He spends the whole season hiding his feelings and fears until it's too late and he's been completely taken over by the Mind Flayer. Then we hear some of Joyce's, Jonathan's and Mike's memories of Will and about how much they care about him, but once again, we never hear him talking about his own life or about how he feels about anything that's going on. At the Snow Ball at the end of the season we can see that Lucas is happily dancing with Max, Mike with El, and Dustin with Nancy, but then Will's just with some random girl that we never even see again? It was kind of clear that he wanted to stay with Mike instead of dancing with the girl, but even when he does dance with her it's pretty unclear how he felt about it? Like, was he happy? Sad? Uncomfortable? I guess we'll never know!
In s3 he tries to express himself, only to be repeatedly brushed off by his friends again and again, leading to him destroying Castle Byers in a moment of unfiltered emotion. It's important to remember that in the first two seasons while all the other Party members were busy, well, saving Will, Will himself was fighting for his life, and thus he missed out on a huge chunk of his childhood, which is why in s3 he wants them to play dnd again like they used to, because he hasn't really moved on from when they were 12 years old playing dnd in Mike's basement, before all his friends started ignoring him to hang out with their girlfriends. I think the rain fight scene (and subsequently the Castle Byers scene) is maybe the most open Will is about his feelings in the entire series. He's spent the whole season trying to get Mike and Lucas to act like they used to, something that the other two brushed off as him being childish and immature. He doesn't react very strongly to this, save for a few sighs and an eye roll here and there, until he storms out of Mike's house and shouts at him. It's only then that we truly realise how upset and angry he is, angry enough to destroy Castle Byers. But then.... we don't really see much more of him for the rest of the season?
And then of course, there's s4. As I said, we do actually hear him talk about himself quite a few times in s4, but he always uses El's name to once again hide his true feelings. There are a couple of other scenes from Will's perspective in this season, for example most of the Rink-O-Mania scenes, and we sometimes hear about what he thinks of Jonathan smoking weed, but there aren't really any other scenes in which he explicitly talks about himself.
Long story short, in seasons 1&2 he was only ever used as a plot device, not so much as an actual character, and I can't wait for him to get a proper arc, from his own perspective, in season 5!

Ive seen so many people talking about this but I just wanted to put my 2 cents in. What do you think about Steve this season? I feel like he went backwards rather than showing real growth. In my opinion Nancy doesn’t deserve him after all that ya know, BULLSHIT. Now he’s trying to get her back? Instead of realizing he doesn’t need a girlfriend? That would’ve been some real growth right there, unless they’re setting that up for 5? I don’t have any opinion on her and Jonathan so I’m not just being biased, it doesn’t seem right at all. And what about his relationship with the kids? It was all kind of weird. He babysat them and protected them for 3 years, and in 4 he just seems so…careless? The only scene he really shows concern for them is the graveyard scene in dear Billy. I mean yeah he’s still trying to be this protector, but idk it just seemed so off??
I think they planned to just have him and Robin be a couple in S4 but when that got changed they had to redo his entire arch for S4 and did a shit job of it. It makes zero sense for him to suddenly want Nancy back after two whole seasons of him getting over her. I thought we'd reached a point in S3 where he realised he didn't need romantic love to be happy and having friends was just as important but then they threw that away for him looking for "the one" which is in character but they're implying Nancy will always be the perfect soulmate for Steve and that doesn't add up for me. Even the actors don't seem on board with Natalie swerving the conversation into fans interest in Nancy and Robin when asked who she wants Nancy to end up with.
Its like they didn't know what to do with him so instead of having him just be the protector of the group, act jealous of Eddie, support and joke around with Robin they went for making him slide back into where he was at the start of S2. Steve is 19/20 and sure he probably wants to find someone to have his 6 nuggets with but Nancy is not that person and the fact he can't tell she isn't is a clear sign they wouldn't work out.
I'm not the biggest fan of her to begin with so having her repeat her behaviour with Steve that she did with Jonathan in S1&2 really pissed me off. One miscommunication and she's ready to jump back on Steve's dick. It was the worst side plot of the season and I like to pretend it doesn't exist.
Also, Robin pushing Steve towards a girl who broke his heart and moved on within like a day for the guy she had been in love with for pretty much the whole relationship who she is still actively with is insane. Eddie I can forgive because he doesn't know the details but Robin sure as hell does and if I saw my best friend in his situation I'd be giving them a verbal smack to the face and telling them to not go through that again.
His little speech about being dumb and always crawling backwards but Nancy made him go forward made me laugh because S4 couldn't have been further from the truth. Like I know they all think they might die but Nancy isn't worried about Jonathan the entire season because she's too busy staring at Steve.
I mean even in S3 he wasn't fully bothered by Erica or Dustin being in danger. This whole Steve is a babysitter trick has worn off and isn't a funny joke anymore. He'd probably die to save them but he isn't actively going to try and stop them from running head first into danger because he can't. He just follows them to try and keep them safe to a certain extent.
