i can tell when the author of a fanfic im reading had a peaceful childhood
#krav talks#not to pull the 'i have actual ptsd from a traumatic childhood' card but im gonna be real#i dont think some of y'all understand exactly what hunter's childhood was like#belos also most likely was not the verbally abusive type of parent. he was physically and emotionally abusive FOR SURE. ABSOLUTELY#but theres no shot he'd just yell at hunter. he doesn't get angry like that#case in point: What Happened To Caleb#hunter isnt gonna start crying from someone yelling at him out of anger. he'll get triggered MAYBE#hunter gets fighty if he gets triggered by ANY older authority figure. kikimora and lilith werent exactly kind to him either#the only way hunter cries is when his friends are around bcus he feels so safe with them#you know who would cry over being yelled at like that??? amity.#sure later in her life she probably got into screaming matches with odalia#but if u think even she wouldnt burst into tears if she got yelled at by any older female authority figure in her life#then u r wrong. sorry#hunter was not allowed to be vulnerable. it was too dangerous to be. he also had NO ONE while under belos's thumb.#amity had her siblings. they probably gave her safe spaces to cry it out after getting verbally abused by their mom#if lilith lost her patience and raised her voice at amity (not in a mean way bcus lilith would literally Never but no one is perfect)#amity would start crying for sure. and then lilith would feel like the worst person in the world. scum of the earth.#and god forbid hunter sees this exchange. he'd rip lilith a new one even if she'd already apologized#he wouldnt stop chewing her out for even daring to speak to The Amity Blight so disrespectfully unless amity physically pulled him away.#and then he'd threaten lilith and flash step amity away and immediately call luz#now if a MAN tried to yell at amity she would be three seconds away from throwing hands#but she wouldnt even need to worry about getting her hands dirty bcus hunter would already be shoving the man to the fucking ground#and threatening to end his entire life if he even stepped foot into hunter's field of view ever again#this is why its hard for me to imagine hunter living with darius post-belos... darius wasnt kind to him at first either.#and i think hunter living with someone who had actually had a role in his traumatic childhood would make him. regress#he'd fall back into old behaviors without even noticing. im not entirely sure darius would notice either#i love darius and i love darius & hunters bond so much#but it makes so much more sense and would be so much better for hunter to live with the nocedas for a while#not permanently. camila did great with paying for 6 kids under her roof but she was one emergency away from financial devastation#and i dont think hunter would want to live in the human realm permanently either

Please tell me that with 'Johnny and Kitty pocess Superman and Batman' That they are either on a date or go on a date after a fight? Please this needs to happen
@britcision also asked about this one!
So I was looking through what I wrote of this and...it's not that good. It's based on a prompt from back in Nov 2022 and I was still figuring things out back then and needed to rewrite everything I wrote at least once. It's less crack than you'd expect from the title, I'm afraid.
So I'm gonna do part of that rewrite. Because I'm insane and don't have self control. 🤣
Anyway, the prompt is from @zeestarfishalien and can be found here. Oddly it doesn't have half as many notes as I remember it having. Huh. Guess I thought it had more because I latched onto it so strongly.
Anyway, enjoy!

"Danny!" yelled Jazz from downstairs.
Danny froze for just a moment. That was Jazz's something-is-wrong voice. He dropped through the floor to get to her that much quicker. "What happened?" he demanded.
She just pointed to the TV where a news reporter was standing in a city. Behind her, Batman stood next to the open driver's side door to the batmobile while Superman floated in the air a few feet away with his arms crossed.
"Don't look at me like that, baby," said Batman.
"I will look at you however the hell I want. You forgot our date, asshole!" yelled Superman back.
The reporter grinned at the camera. "Looks like quite the lover's tiff we've stumbled upon! Who would have ever suspected Batman and Superman of being in a relationship?"
Behind her, Superman used his heat vision to shoot at Batman who cursed loudly before jumping into his car and speeding off. Superman huffed and flew in the opposite direction. Jazz muted the TV while the reporter continued making speculations about Batman and Superman's relationship. Danny stared at Jazz in horror.
"That was—"
"Yeah. Yeah, I think it was."
Danny closed his eyes and thought about the half finished essay he had upstairs and the history test he had the next day and how his parents would be home in an hour. He wanted to cry.
"I have to go to Gotham."
"I'll take care of our parents. Have you had the flu yet this year?"
Danny's laugh had a hysterical edge to it. "Tuck's been keeping track of my excuses. Ask him. I'll just…" Danny let the sentence trail as he transformed and flew out of the house without another word.
Even flying as fast as he could, he didn't arrive in Gotham until night had fallen. He tried to sense Johnny or Kitty or listen for the chaos that always followed them, but the city was so big.
After over half an hour of searching with no luck, Danny was sitting on a roof with his head buried in his knees trying not to cry. He only had so many hours before he had to be back in Amity for school. If he missed any more days, he'd get a suspension and his parents would be livid.
Just then, the clock tower chimed ten. Danny lifted his head to look at the tall building, one of the tallest in the city. He might not have any idea how to find Batman, but surely the other heroes would. Maybe he could get their attention?
In a matter of minutes, he was floating above the clock tower. With a deep breath, he shot an ectoblast up into the sky. Two minutes later, he repeated the action.
Not long after his fifth blast, two grapple hooks attached to the tower near his feet and seconds later he was facing Batman and Robin.
Danny immediately fell into a fighting stance. "Johnny, I'm not going to let you get away with this. Get out of him. Now."
But instead of calling him a do-gooder nerd, Batman pulled out a batarang and held it ready to throw. "I'm not this Johnny," he growled.
Danny relaxed and sighed in relief. "Oh thank the ancients, you got him out. I'm so, so sorry, Batman! I know you and the Justice League are relying on me to keep the ghosts from escaping Amity. Johnny and Kitty must’ve gotten past me. How'd you get Johnny out? Were you able to help Superman? Kitty is at least reasonable most of the time so I hope she didn't give you any trouble. Where are they now? I'll just collect them and bring them back to the Realms."
Robin pulled out his sword and pointed it at Danny. "What do you know of Fa— Batman's condition? Who is this 'Johnny' you speak of?"
Danny's core stuttered in his chest. The kid couldn't mean… He looked past the blade pointed at him towards Batman. "You… aren't Batman. Are you? You're covering for him while Johnny is overshadowing the real one."
Batman put a hand on Robin's shoulder. "Lower the sword, Robin." To Danny, he said, "I think you owe us some explanations."
Danny buried his head in his hands and tried to bite back the tears. He was so tired. "I'm sorry, I'm so sorry. This is my fault. They got past me and I failed. I'm so sorry."
“Desist with your groveling and explain!” ordered Robin.
“Right, yeah. Of course. Sorry.” Danny looked up, but the stars were hidden behind smog and lights. He sighed. “I’m Phantom, of course. Responsible for monitoring the portal in Amity and keeping ghosts from coming through and causing problems on Earth. Also for stopping human hunters from hurting any ghosts. Johnny and Kitty, two ghosts, must have gotten past me. I’m careful, I swear. We set up an alarm on the portal so I know the moment someone comes through, but I missed them somehow. I…maybe they came through at the same time as someone else? I’ve had to deal with Skulker and Boxy so far this week. And Queen Dora came for a visit and one of Pandora’s people stopped by to drop something off. So if Johnny and Kitty came through at the same time… Pariah curse it, I should’ve realized. What a stupid design flaw. I’ll be working on a fix for that as soon as I get out of school tomorrow. I’d do it sooner, but I’ve a test you see. And if I miss any more class, I’ll get a suspension, and then my parents really will kill me again.”
Danny winced when he saw Robin’s fingers twitch towards his sword again. “Sorry! No more excuses. It’ll be fixed ASAP, promise. Um, Johnny is generally into motorcycles, but I think he saw the Batmobile and wanted to take it for a ride so he overshadowed Batman. From what I saw on the news, he blew off a date with Kitty to do it so she’s pissed and followed him and ended up overshadowing Superman. Probably so she could use his powers on top of her own to punish Johnny.” He trailed off and waited for the yelling to start.
But they were silent.
Danny shifted from foot to foot. “Again, I’m really sorry. I know you rely on me to keep this from happening and I swear it won’t again. But if you tell me where you think Batman is, I’ll go retrieve Johnny. Same with Superman and Kitty. I need to get this wrapped up by four, maybe four thirty, so I can get home in time for school to start.” He couldn’t hold back a yawn. He just wanted to sleep.
Batman and Robin exchanged a glance and Batman put away his weapon. “I’ve never heard of you or this Amity before. You’re a kid, who is your Justice League mentor? Why aren’t they here?”
“I… What? Justice League mentor? What are you talking about? All of my mentors are ghosts.”
Robin snorted. “Who informed you that it was your responsibility to monitor this portal that allows these ghosts to invade? Why are you the only one preventing attacks such as this?”
Danny bristled. “I’m not alone! Sam and Tucker and my sister help me!”
“Are they kids like you?” asked Batman.
“If by like me you mean ghosts, of course not. They’re fully alive. I’m the only ghost of the group.”
“No,” said Batman after a pause. “That’s not what I meant. I wanted to know if they were teenagers who still go to school like you or if they were adults you worked with.”
Danny shrugged. “Jazz is starting college next year, but yeah. They’re my friends.”
Batman let out a long breath. “Right. And why do you think the Justice League is expecting you, specifically, to monitor this portal?”
Danny threw up his hands. “Because you told me that!” He saw Batman open his mouth to say something and quickly added, “Not you specifically, but, like, the League. This guy Constantine came by a month or two after the portal opened and saw me and relaxed. Said he was glad to see I was already handling things there. Gave me a number and laughed and said if anyone could handle the situation, it’d be me, but I could call if I needed back up.” He shrugged. “And he was right. So far I have been able to handle it. This is an exception and I’ll get it fixed in a few hours tops.”
Robin ground his teeth. “That lazy magician.”
Batman also muttered something under his breath. “Thank you, Phantom. For doing so much on your own. If you tell us how to free Batman and Superman, we can handle it from here.”
“What?” Danny shook his head in confusion. “What are you talking about? You need specialized weapons that I don’t have on me and containment devices and access to a portal to the Realms to get rid of them. Seriously, I can get this taken care of. Just tell me where Batman is.”
Batman sighed again. “We don’t have much of a choice. Fine. But will you be able to get us these weapons and containment devices if we requested some of you? We’ll pay you, of course. And we’d like more details on what you’ve been dealing with. I’m afraid Constantine… did not share the details of your dealings with the rest of us.”
“Yeah, sure. The weapons are made by Drs. Jack and Maddie Fenton of FentonWorks, based out of Amity Park, Illinois. Their son Danny can help you pick out the most useful ones. Some are more torture device than anything, though, so definitely avoid those. Danny will be able to tell you the difference.”
Batman nodded once, jaw clenched. “Thank you. Now, I’ve just gotten an update on the possessed Batman’s location. Follow us.”
-----
Dick is pretending to be Batman here. If they have a "normal" batman out, then they can show the possessed batman is an imposter.
I saw some debate on the original over whether Johnny would possess Batman or Superman. To me, the answer was obvious. He'd possess Batman because he wanted to take the Batmobile for a spin.
Meanwhile, Kitty is the smart one. She'd go for Superman because then she could use his powers and her own to 1) punish Johnny and 2) prevent anyone from stopping them.
Regarding Constantine: He made an oops, but it's not (fully) his fault. Due to time missions from Clockwork, Phantom is shown to be thousands of years old and is known for fantastic feats. If Constantine had known this was some fourteen year old newly dead kid, he'd have acted differently. Instead, he thinks Danny is older than he is with millenia of experience.
This is free for anyone to continue!

Danny, on the run from the GIW decides to take shelter in Gotham because if the GIW have any sense they'd never set foot in there.
Even if Batman and the JL agree with thier opinion on ecto entities (as evidenced by their lack of speaking out against the anti-ecto acts) Batman was notoriously territorial and would have issue with a wildly incompetent government organization throwing missiles around his city all willy-nilly.
With that being said it was probably best for Danny to wear a disguise. Sure, they didn't know Fenton and Phantom were the same person yet but Danny Fenton suddenly turning up in Gotham after going missing in Amity is certainly going to raise some eyebrows regardless of the necklace he had that jammed his ecto-signature and made him untrackable.
Danny started off by going blond. Its something he's always wanted to do and now with ghostly shape-shifting powers he doesn't even have to worry about frying his hair or dying his eyebrows to match. After that all he needed to do was part his hair down the middle, add a lip ring or two and maybe a bit of make up.
Danny stared at himself in the mirror. He looked like a completely different person.
A completely different and very attractive person. He looked good. The newly blond man threw on a green jacket and went out to explore the town. He did not expect to literally bump into the Tim Drake. The Wayne adoptee just stood there mouth opening and closing comically. Did he offend him? Crap. He had promised Jazz he would stay off of the radar of the Waynes and the bats specifically and here he was angering one of them.
Danny decided to book it before it became a scene, ignoring the lovestruck Tim's crys for him to wait.
Back at his apartment Danny quickly changed his look to red hair tied back into a two inch low ponytail, green eyes and freckles that unbeknownst to anyone else was made up from the lesser known constellations.
The coffee at this Cafe smelled amazing! Too bad Danny wouldn't get to try it because the next this he knew freaking Red Hood was behind him asking to talk. Our favorite ghost boy wouldn't be embarrassed to admit he let out a small squeek before bolting out the door yelling, "I'm not even a criminal!"
It took Jason a few seconds to process that the guy he had tried to flirt with ran away in terror. Crap.
Day three and four were blissfully Wayne and bat free, though he did find out that Tim Drake and Red Hood were looking for his two false identities. Joy.
Day five he met the stabby Robin who very valiantly beat up two people who had been following him. Danny didn't even notice he was being followed and thanked the bird for saving him. Danny, who was shape-shifted into a very pretty girl at the moment, offered to buy him something to eat as a thank you. "Danielle" insisted and Robin allowed it. Danielle never noticed the slight pink on Damians cheeks as they went over to one of Damians favorite restaurants.
Day seven he had went out as blondie and got confronted by some girl named Barbara. She was nice and managed to convince him to come to a Cafe with her. He told her his name was David and he ran away from his parents with the help of one of his friends family members and that he was Jewish, which was true...except for the David part. He learned that if you wanna keep your story straight keeping to almost truths was your best bet. She in turn told him about Tim and how he's a friend of hers-uh oh- and that he's been looking all over for him.
Danny-David- tells her he's sorry but he didn't mean to offend Tim and doesn't want any trouble before laying down enough money to cover his half of the bill and the tip and booking it out of there
This repeats with most of the family trying to flirt with him or adopt him into the family when he's out as Danny.
Bruce Wayne approached Danny when he was waiting to board an elevator, "Hel-" was all the billionaire could get out before Danny cut him off "Hell no." And then he just got in the elevator and pressed the close doors button and was gone again.

Fearless 2
Tumblr media
PART 1
It doesn't surprise you that Beatrice and Christina jump holding hands, it was clear they would be friends. Maybe that would help, if she had others her own age to model her behavior off of. As they tumbled and skid to a stop you heard the dark haired girl laughing, smiling to yourself remembering your first time.
You and Four had held hands, being the only two 'gentle' transfers. Eric had made fun of both of you, only to tear up himself as his knees ripped open under the gravel. Four who then was Tobias had picked the gravel out of your cheek as you both laughed. Your friendship bloomed from there, too this day he was the only other person besides Tori you trusted 100%.
Christina will fit in with Dauntless thrill seekers, such as yourself. You're pulled from your thoughts by a scream, Rita standing on the ledge crying and screaming looking down. You knew without looking that her little sister hadn't made it, it broke your heart. You were thankful when Theo stepped up to hold her back from falling herself.
You looked away from the transfers and looked up to the sky, willing the tears to go away before anyone sees them.  You can hear Theo trying to calm her down as others walked over looking over the ledge. You hoped that the transfers realize now, that not even Dauntless born are safe now.
Closing your eyes briefly you open them the second you hear that annoying guys voice again. "Ooh. Scandalous! A Stiff's flashing some skin!" Your eyes land on Beatrice who has her sleeve pulled up, you can tell this one is going to cause problems too. Noting in your head to watch him and to alert Four. Just as you go to tell him where to shove his mouth Max speaks, pulling everyone attention besides your own. You keep your eyes on the Stiff, as if you can will her to listen too you.
"Listen up! My name is Max! I am one of the leaders of your new faction! Several stories below us is the members' entrance to our compound. If you can't muster the will to jump off, you don't belong here. Our initiates have the privilege of going first."
"You want us to jump off a ledge?" asks an Erudite girl, her mouth hanging open. As a trainer your already taking notes as to who you think the weaker ones will be. Rolling your eyes and crossing your arms as you turn to look at Max, who's smiling at you clearly amused not only by the girl but by your reaction.
Max always told you that you should've been born into Dauntless, he never understood how you were Amity. "Yes," Max says clearly holding in his laughter.
"Is there water at the bottom or something?"
"Who knows?" He raises his eyebrows and waving over the ledge, you remember your own group again. You were the first jumper, having to literally pry your hand out of Tobias's who was the last jumper. The blood is pumping in your ears as the group parts waiting to see who has the balls to go first.
You clench your jaw when she finally steps forward making her way to the ledge thankfully not looking at you as she passes. You can hear the Dauntless around you start to whisper and turn the look on your face shutting them up quickly. When she steps up you can see the doubt on her face, the fear clear as she pulls her over dress off.
But the defiance steps in as she throws it directly at the annoying Candor boy. A chuckle breaks through the silence, it takes a second for you to realize it was yours. Steeling your face back up you watch as people start up again with the catcalls and laughter.
She doesn't yell after her foot leaves the ledge, she doesn't scream on her way down and you're slightly impressed. You also know that it could be the choking fear keeping her quiet like it did Four. Max even looks a little impressed, and as you thought Christina was the next to step up.
One by one each person jumps, some scream, some laugh but others mostly initiates stay silent in fear. They now know there has to be something at the bottom, but they still don't know what it is.  Soon they are all gone, leaving only those of you who are top tier members.
"So Y/n, whats your first impression of the newbies?" Zeke asks, bringing everyone attention back to you. The one place where you really hate, is under everyone's scrutiny.
Uncrossing your arms and moving to lean against the ledge you pause acting like your thinking. Its of course fake, they all know that, they know you are quick to judge and your opinion is hard to change.
But its one of the reasons you make an excellent trainer, that and that your normally right. You can find their weaknesses within the first few encounters. That's why you're partnered with Four, who then will push those weaknesses until they break.
"Really I only have an opinion so far on four of them. The Stiff is either going to excel or completely fail, haven't decided yet. The short Candor girl will fit in here well once she learns to control her mouth. The tall Candor girl is fake. Shes gonna act tough, fight hard but she will ultimately fail. And last but not least that annoying ass Candor boy, I have a feeling Im going to have fun breaking him in. Hes pissed me off already and its only been an hour and a half since I met him."
Max nods taking notes as you speak, hes a very efficient leader. You don't always agree with him, but it's one of the reasons you get along. You're one of the few people here that gives him an honest opinion. That's also the reason hes training you to take over for him, of course Four was his first choice. But he turned it down so hey, his loss right?
Once you take over it wont matter. He will be your second whether he likes it or not, you'll kill Eric if you have too.
After a few more moments of conversation the rest start jumping, until it's just you and Max. He gives you a questioning look, but you shake your head indicating that you don't want to talk. He knows how much you hate running into your brother, hes assuming thats the reason for your mood. You let him run with his assumptions, leaving you alone on the roof for a moment.
You know you only have a moment, so you remind yourself of who you are. Just a moment to feel the weakness that having two more Divergents here brings. The crushing load of responsibility your promise to Tori lays on your shoulders.
You are brave.
You are fearless.
You are Dauntless.
And with that final sentence you stand back to the darkness, and fall. The ride to the net is too short, the adrenaline that runs through your veins fading too quickly. You hear those who know you chanting your name as you roll yourself off, scoffing at your best friend who's standing right there. He smirks a little knowing you're pretending to be offended that he didn't help you.
Once everyone leaves, besides you, Four and the initiates, the two of you lead them down a narrow tunnel. The tunnel is lit at long intervals, so in the dark space between each dim lamp. One that if you didn't know where you were going you could easily feel lost or disoriented.
When we stop I turn and watch as the Stiff runs into someones back, holding back the sigh that wants to escape badly. "This is where you divide,The Dauntless-born initiates are free to go to your dorm. I assume you don't need a tour of the place."
They break away from the group and dissolve into the shadows. You watch the last heel pass out of the light and look at those who are left. Most of the initiates were from Dauntless, so only nine people remain. Of those, only one Abnegation transfer, and there are no Amity transfers. The rest are from Erudite and, surprisingly, Candor.
You know Four likes to get the first word in, so you tuck your feminism away for the time being and wait for him. "Most of the time I work in the control room, but for the next few weeks, I am your instructor," he says. "My name is Four."
Christina asks, "Four? Like the number?" You somehow manage to hold in the chuckle that wants so badly to escape when you see his face. "Yes," Four says. "Is there a problem?"
"No."
"Good. We're about to go into the Pit, which you will someday learn to love. It—"
Christina snickers. "The Pit? Clever name."
Four walks up to Christina and leans his face close to hers. His eyes narrow, and for a second he just stares at her. "What's your name?" he asks quietly.
"Christina," she squeaks. "Well, Christina, if I wanted to put up with Candor smart-mouths, I would have joined their faction," he hisses. "The first lesson you will learn from me is to keep your mouth shut. Got that?"
She nods, and again your holding in your laughter. You cant wait to make fun of him for this later, cant wait to tell Tori about the bravely stupid girl. Four starts toward the shadow at the end of the tunnel. The crowd of initiates moves on in silence.
"What a jerk," she mumbles as she and Beatrice, now Tris, walk past you. "I guess he doesn't like to be laughed at," she replies and this time you do laugh. They both jumped, clearly forgetting you were still in the room. "He also doesn't like smart asses, He wont tolerate you talking behind his back either. So learn quickly or the next few weeks will be harder than they need to be." You say before jogging to catch up with Four, shoulder checking the kid you don't like on the way.
He opens his mouth and starts to speak "Watch where you're going Bitch!" The second his voice rang through the corridor Four stopped, but when the word Bitch left the pour guys mouth all Fours muscles tensed. He knew you could handle yourself, but he had a hard time tucking his chivalry away when it came to you. "Excuse me?" He says going to step forward but your hand on his chest stops him.
Your busy smiling at the dumb ass who just spoke, so you dont see Tris's eyes linger on your hand on Fours chest.  "Whats your name dumb ass?" You say still smiling but cocking your head to the side condescendingly.
"Peter.." He says threw his teeth as some of the guys cover their laughter with coughs. You nod, and without thinking drag your hand down Fours arm, squeezing his hand to let him know you're ok. It's an innocent movement, none of them know what happens behind closed doors. You feel him relax a fraction as you let go and take steps towards the group.
"Im Y/n. I'm also one of your trainers, I am also one of Dauntless's leaders." You watch as Peters face pales, and chuckle bringing your hands up to effortlessly put your hair in a messy bun. "I will be taking over for Max when he retires, meaning I will be the one that chooses how your life here functions. And for me..." You draw on, turning back to start leading the group away noticing Fours eyes locked on Peter.
"First impressions are everything."

A Place to Go
[The Owl House] Amity Blight x Female Reader
Word Count: 3.02k
Proofread: Yes
Content Warnings: Yelling, crying, general angst, Odalia being Odalia, and talk of an unsafe home environment.
[A/N]: Here's story 1/3 for Amity!
P.S. the reader / [Y/N] / you essentially replace Luz in the story. It doesn't change how anything plays out, I just figured I should mention it to explain the relationship.
Enjoy!
“Amity, I don’t care about whatever it is you think is more important than your schoolwork, but this is unacceptable! You’re hardly trying anymore, for Titan’s sake. Are you trying to make me look bad?” Odalia sneered down at her youngest daughter, waving Amity’s report card in front of her face to show her recent grades. “Mom, I still have almost all A’s! I don’t see why that’s such a bad thing to you,” she hollered in return, glancing to the side to find Edric and Emira peering in anxiously from the doorway. “Almost isn’t good enough, dear. You know that. You’re doing so much worse than you ever have. I feel like you’re doing this intentionally,” came her mother’s retort.
Amity sighed and ran her hands down her face, already beginning to feel the anger boiling and bubbling up to the surface. “Mom, I’m not intentionally doing anything. I’ve just been…distracted is all.” Odalia scoffed and rolled her eyes. Her free hand came up to pinch the bridge of her nose. “So I’ve noticed.” Her mother then grumbled something underneath her breath, glancing back over the sheet of paper in her hand before handing it over to one of the Abominations that stood in place of a servant. “Ever since that human came to the Isles, it seems you’ve been distracted every day. Honestly, I don’t see what interests you so much about her. She’s beneath us, Amity. You know that.”
The twins winced at the statement, watching as their younger sister tensed up and visibly grew irritated. They glanced at each other, silently wondering how they could step in without escalating the situation even further. “How dare you talk about her that way?” Amity yelled in return, stepping forward. “You know nothing about her! She’s actually the one who’s been listening to me and making me genuinely happy!” Odalia’s eyebrow perked up as she thought for a moment. She hummed with a knowing smirk.
“Is that so? So she’s the one who has been distracting you from your responsibilities? I suppose your father and I will just have to do something about her in that case.”
Amity’s body froze, her blood running cold as she stammered. “Y-You wouldn’t. You can’t! She’s all I have!” “All you have? Amity, have you forgotten all I’ve done for you? I gave you a name, a title, a reason for others to fear you. I gave you power and status! You’d be nothing without me, and you know it. [Y/N] is nothing but a pest who needs to be squashed. If that’s what it takes for you to return to normal, then so be it.”
Trembling harshly, Amity stepped back and tangled her hands together in an attempt to steady them and ground herself. “But…I don’t want to be feared,” she whispered. “I-I don’t want to have power and status if it means I can only use it for something bad.” She swallowed the lump in her throat and sucked in a shuttered breath. “[Y/N] treats me with the respect you never have,” she started again after a moment of silence, finally looking back up to her mother to look her in the eye as she forced her confidence once more.
“[Y/N] is a better person than you’ll ever be.”
Odalia gasped at that, her features contorting as she grew infuriated with her youngest daughter’s attempt to fight back. “Amity, you have no right to speak to me that way. And how would you even know that? It’s not like she means anything to you.”
“She means everything to me! She’s my girlfriend!”
Her hands came up to clasp themselves over her mouth as she gasped. She didn’t want to tell her mother about her relationship with [Y/N]--she knew she’d be disowned for being involved with someone her mother saw as inferior. Had she ruined everything? What if she had to break up with her? She let her gaze drop down to the floor. If that’s what she had to do to make sure [Y/N] was safe, she would, but she knew how painful it would be. There had to be a way to avoid her getting hurt.
“Girlfriend? Oh, no, Amity. You’re mistaken. You can’t date someone so far beneath us. We’ll find you a new girlfriend–one who’s better suited to be with you.” Amity’s jaw clenched, her teeth grinding painfully against each other as her arms dropped back down to her side. “And how do you know who would be suited to be my girlfriend? You don’t know what I need.” Odalia faked a laugh. “Oh, but I do, dear. You need someone who will benefit your place in the world. Someone who will better our reputation.”
Finally, Amity lunged forward and snatched her report card from the servant, glancing over it before holding it back up to show her mother. “If your reputation is all you care about, and you don’t care about me being happy, then I don’t want any part of it.” In a swift movement, she tore the paper in two, then let it fall to the ground beneath her feet. Her eyes never left her mother’s, however, which narrowed. They stared at each other for a moment, the tension in the air growing thicker with each passing second.
At length, Odalia sighed and crossed her arms. “Very well. I can always find a better replacement. Feel free to stay here if you’d like, but don’t bother taking any pride in your little stunt. Either way, [Y/N] will be punished for ruining your future.” Amity growled in frustration. “She didn’t ruin my future, she is my future! All you do is cause problems! I hate that I have to live here with you! You’re the only reason I don’t enjoy having the name Blight,” she hollered as loudly as she could, then spinning around on her heel to turn and storm off.
After she made it to the front parlor, she heard her mother start to bicker again. She picked up her pace quickly before sprinting out the door. She had no plan on where to go–she had never tried to run away before. She knew it was only a matter of time before someone found her and forced her to go back to living at the Blight Manor–she knew that–but she just wanted to get away for enough time to clear her head.
Tears blurred her vision, making it almost impossible to see where she was going as they spilled from her eyes in thick masses. She wiped furiously at her eyes, sniffling and hiccuping. The late hour certainly wasn’t helping: the sun hadn’t quite set all the way yet, but with every passing minute, the world around her grew darker.
In an attempt to calm herself down, she thought of where she could go. Her first thought was her hideout at the library, though that idea was quickly shut down. She knew that was one of the first places her family would look.
There had to be somewhere else she could go.
There was no way she was going to run to Boscha’s house, or any of her old friends for that matter. None of them would comfort her the way she needed. Her family would also look there anyway, so there was no point. In the midst of her thinking and weeping, she had sent a text through her scroll at some point, though she couldn’t quite make out whatever it was she had typed.
After several minutes of running in a random direction, Amity came to a halt, huffing and panting heavily as she hunched over to rest her hands on her knees. Her eyes closed, already growing weary from the tears that had barely dried while streaking against her face. Where could she go?
Where would her mother not look for a while?
Where could she go to feel understood and safe?
Her eyes shot open after a moment, her mind screaming at her feet to start moving again. She managed to pace herself in a light jog, eventually realizing it wouldn’t get her where she needed to be for a long while. She brought her hands up to cup the sides of her mouth as she hollered out. “Ghost! I need a ride,” she called out. Her palisman took a moment, but finally made it. Amity summoned her staff and quickly hopped on, flying off as quickly as possible.
She didn’t know how she hadn’t thought of it immediately: The Owl House was definitely a place she could go to whenever she needed, and unless her siblings ratted her out for it, Odalia would never think to even check that place for a while. She’d have at least a few days to recollect herself.
Another round of sniffles sounded from her as she mumbled where she wanted to go to Ghost, who flew even faster in that direction. It had only taken a few minutes for them to make it, though it felt like hours had passed to Amity. She hopped off of her staff and managed to run to the door, ignoring Hooty’s greetings and heading inside. Eda and King both asked what was going on, though all Amity could hear was ringing. Her body felt like it was going to collapse at any moment, and all she wanted to do was hold [Y/N] before that happened.
Racing up the stairs, Amity stumbled hurriedly to [Y/N]’s bedroom door, shoving it open and struggling to catch her balance as her eyes searched the room frantically. She sighed once her gaze met [Y/N]’s. A choked sob quickly forced its way through her lips as she walked forward and fell into the girl’s embrace. There were so many things on her mind that she wanted to talk about, but none of them came out coherently.
[Y/N] gently shushed her and told her to take her time. “Just breathe for me right now, okay?” Amity nodded and sniffled, squeezing [Y/N] in return as she struggled to steady her breath again. The feeling of her girlfriend’s arms around her torso was the only thing keeping her grounded to reality. That, and the sound of [Y/N] whispering soft words of reassurance beside her ear while she rocked her back and forth in a soothing manner.
Eventually, Amity managed to calm herself enough to start talking about what had happened. [Y/N] listened intently as she ranted, only speaking here and there to show that she was listening. After a good half hour of speaking, Amity crumbled into herself once the two of them sat on the bed. “I-I just don’t understand why her name is more important to her than her actual children. Why does she think her reputation matters more than me?”
[Y/N] could feel her heart shattering at her words. She pulled Amity into another hug. “I…I don’t know, Amity. I really don’t. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: every child deserves a parent who will love them and keep only their best interest in mind, but not every parent deserves a child, especially if they aren’t willing to put in the effort it takes to help them feel loved.” She leaned back to look Amity in the eye. Her hands came up to gently cup her face, and she could feel her heart throbbing again as the girl in front of her could only close her eyes and lean into the touch.
“You deserve so much more, Amity. You deserve everything you want. I hope one day your mom realizes that.” Amity hiccuped and began to cry again. Her head lowered, allowing her to bury her face in her hands. “I-I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to make you cry again.” Gently, [Y/N] lifted Amity’s head and moved her hands. She cupped her face once more before letting the pads of her thumbs stroke her face to wipe her tears away.
Another sniffle came from Amity before she opened her eyes. She glanced up at [Y/N] and smiled weakly. “No, it’s not you. I just…you have no idea how badly I’ve needed to hear someone who isn’t my family say that. Thank you.”
The two shared a smile. After a moment or two, [Y/N] leaned forward and pressed a gentle kiss to Amity’s forehead before speaking. “You look exhausted. Why don’t we get some sleep? There’ll be plenty of time to figure things out in the morning, okay?” A small nod was her response. The two of them then shuffled around for a bit to get the room more comfortable. The lights were turned off, and multiple blankets and pillows were brought in to provide a larger sense of comfort.
They laid down on the floor, bundling up underneath the blankets and facing one another. [Y/N] grabbed ahold of Amity’s hand and gave it a gentle squeeze, whispering a few more words before letting her eyes flutter shut. Several moments passed, but Amity was struggling to fall asleep peacefully. Every time her eyes closed, she thought of what would possibly happen to [Y/N] if her mother ever got ahold of her.
After gathering a small amount of courage, she scooted forward towards [Y/N] and rested her head against the girl’s chest. [Y/N] tensed at the feeling, looking down at her. She never asked why she moved closer, almost instantly understanding what was happening. Amity finally managed to fall asleep after focusing on the sound of her girlfriend’s heart beating behind her ribs. She counted the beating until she crashed. Considering all that had happened that night, she managed to have a relatively decent dream, her mind finally processing that she was safe at the Owl House.
She wished she could call this place her home instead of Blight Manor.
Maybe she could talk to [Y/N] about it when they woke up. She knew her girlfriend would be on board with her living there for the time being, but she would also need to make sure that Eda and King would be okay with it as well.
She’d have to wait until she woke up the next morning.
Tumblr media
“Alright, that’s all for today. Remember there’s an extra credit assignment that’ll be due next week if anyone chooses to do it.” After the teacher made final announcements for the day, the students in class began to pack their things back up. Amity smiled at the thought of going home. She gathered her belongings and waited patiently for the bell to go off. Her eyes shut as her palm supported the weight of her head, propping her arm up against the table as she remained in her seat.
“Hey, Amity! Think you could help us with the extra credit this weekend?” Skara suddenly quipped, making Amity jump and look over at her as she and Boscha made their way over. With a dismissive wave of her hand, she smiled. “Ah, no, sorry. I’m not gonna do it this time. I just want to stay home and relax for a while.” Boscha’s eyebrows raised before a look of confusion crossed her face. “You aren’t doing the extra credit?”
Amity’s eyes squinted a bit at her. “Why? Is that such a bad thing?” Her tone came across a little more aggressive than she intended, but she didn’t have a visible reaction to it. Boscha shrugged. “No, I just don’t remember the last time you skipped doing anything for extra credit. Can’t blame you though,” she waved her hand with an exasperated expression. “The assignments are always boring anyway.” Amity only hummed, not contributing to the conversation any further.
Finally, the bell screamed throughout each class, echoing down the hallways. Amity beamed brightly and stood up, ignoring the surprised and confused glances from the others as she rushed out the door.
She made her way out the main doors of Hexide, summoning Ghost at her side before flying off to the Owl House. She landed relatively swiftly before jogging inside, finding that [Y/N] had already made it home before her and set up her phone to binge watch the shows she had been begging Amity to try watching for weeks. Amity smiled wider and laughed, gently discarding her school supplies before joining her girlfriend on the sofa.
They bundled up together under the blankets that had been set out, snuggling against each other before [Y/N] started the show. Amity grinned as [Y/N] laughed at a joke here and there, sighing contentedly as she leaned further against her girlfriend. She didn’t entirely understand what was happening in the show–and she definitely didn’t get any of the references made–but she was enjoying it anyway.
Something about the way [Y/N] held her and talked so passionately about what was playing on her phone made Amity feel safe and wouldn’t let her stop smiling. She had never felt this happy at the Manor. And although she knew she wouldn’t be able to stay here forever, she was glad her mother agreed to let her live there until the Day of Unity, though she didn’t appreciate the way she had explained why she was allowing it.
She ignored that though, and instead found herself falling even more in love with [Y/N] than ever before. Being able to spend every day together meant they could do everything together: go on dates, walk around town, crack bad jokes about what had been happening at school. Eda treated her like her mother never did, always making sure she was taken care of and keeping her best interests in mind. And King, although it wasn’t much of a surprise, became like a younger sibling to Amity. Anytime she was feeling upset and [Y/N] wasn’t there to make her smile, King found a way to make her laugh.
She loved every part of it, and she loved [Y/N], the girl who saved her from her lowest point in life and welcomed her into her new home with loving arms.

Here's part 2 of 'What if Belos Won' I hope you all like it!
Also bit of a warning that there is a character death in this part so if you don't want to cry then uh sorry lol.
A day passed and it was now time to go to the portal and take back the Demon Realm and kill any witches who stood in his way. His influence on Hunter was already becoming evident and the boy had no idea of it yet. Luz and Hunter were now trying to get the map to the portal first so that they can surprise their girlfriends and flapjack the very cute, very nice, red bird (sry about this) had the job of getting the map but the bird wouldn't listen so Belos had to take over very temporarily “Get the map!” he shouted at the bird finally causing it to listen and steal the map from the pink haired witch. “What the heck?!” Luz yelled questionably at Hunter, rightfully so too, he was never like this. “I- I don't know why I did that.” The bird returned, map in its talons. “Thanks Flapjack, sorry I yelled at you.” As the two stood up to go and meet with the rest of the kids Belos needed to steer them in the right direction so he whispered in Hunter's mind to go into the forest. Hunter was confused but he and Luz went into the forest and towards the portal, Hunter taking the lead. The walk was tense as Belos continued taking control over Hunter’s mind, Hunter was struggling to fight him back but it would end up being futile.
*In Hunter's Mind*
“Ahh, failed grimwalker. Did you know that bird of yours belonged to a witch way back in my day? She seduced my brother with her wicked spells and forced my hand. Now I will take over your body, you won't need it for where I need to go. Hand it over willingly or this will be so much more painful.” Belos menacingly said a short speech, as he seemed to love doing. The version of Belos in this mind was that of the emperor in order to instill even more fear in Hunter. Who was indeed terrified but stood his ground to keep his mind. “I'm not afraid of you any more, Belos. My friends won't let you win, even if you do take my mind. I'd rather die than let you hurt them!” Hunter so bravely exclaimed thinking that he could stop the unstoppable. He should have chosen his last words better. “Hm, you'd rather die?” Belos asked, taking a step forward, seeping green goop where his foot last was, beginning the infection. Hunter stepped back in fear, looking up at the looming threat with widened eyes. “I- I-. Stay back!” He yelled and stuttered. Belos only smiled, slowly walking closer and reaching his hand out to grab the boy, each step seeping more and more of Belos into the kid's mind. Hunter attempted his ‘power of friendship’ magic but it was futile, he teleported behind Belos and attempted to run away but the emperor just quickly turned and extended his arm into the goopy green monster length. Violently taking ahold of him and pulling Hunter back towards the emperor. “Here I was thinking you would put up more of a fight, however in the end you died as pitifully as the rest of them. Thank you for the body.” Belos then went inside of Hunter's body, completing the possession.
*Back outside of Hunters mind*
Luz’s mind was elsewhere, thinking more about what she's going to say to her friends and what Amity is going to do rather than notice the sudden fixed posture and heavy walk of the Belos possessed Hunter. “We're here. Now to just find a way across.” Belos said through the boy's mouth, Luz almost immediately grabbed one of her glyphs as she was testing the power of them as they walked. It was an ice glyph and she created a bridge across the water surrounding the portal. They both walked across and began looking for the blood. Belos needed Luz alive only until she found the blood, afterwards it didn't matter to him whether she was alive or dead but preferred if she was dead. It took an hour but Belos managed to find it first, with no help from the bird of course who was nowhere to be seen. Luz did see it fly back to where the others were but assumed Hunter just wanted to get the others to come along. Belos didn't know this. He grabbed a small vial and filled it with the Titan blood, holding it in his hand tightly and walking to be in front of the portal. Luz noticed this and walked over next to ‘Hunter’ unaware of the possession. “You found it? Nice, now let's go get Amity and the others. I saw Flapjack already flying to get them so we can meet them halfway.” She turned to go back across the ice bridge, her back now facing Belos who smiled seeing the opportunity in front of him. Hunter's body changed, adding horns and streaks of green, rotting goop across his face. He stepped forward, his arm changing into a sharp point. “I am afraid I cannot let you go and get them, Luz the human.” Now it was blatantly clear that this was not Hunter. He thrusted his arm forwards and stabbed Luz in the back, luckily for Luz it missed all vital organs somehow, causing her to let out a forced breath and collapse to the floor. She then began to scream for Amity and her mother. Belos turned away as he saw Flapjack fly back, knowing the children wouldn't be too far away he threw the vial on the ground of the portal. The vial broke and the Titan blood opened the portal just as the rest of the kids and Camila stood at the other end of the ice bridge, all of them in a short state of shock from seeing Luz just lying there unconscious. Amity was the first to snap out of it and ran to hold on to Luz as Belos walked through the portal. The rest of them joined Amity shortly after, each one letting out tears, Camila and Amity more so as they realized that they were unable to call an ambulance. Flapjack flew over and layed on Luz's stomach. The palisman then started to glow a bright yellow light before disappearing and the light absorbing itself into Luz, the wound got healed and after a few seconds she woke up. “Where's Hunter?” She asked quietly, tears beginning to form in her eyes.

Lightning Scars and Listening Ears
Phic phight prompt by @datawyrms : Danny Phantom's jumpsuit is hiding a secret he'd rather not reveal to anyone. (feel free to be metaphorical if you want.) l
Team Human: @currentlylurking
Most citizens of Amity Park often forgot that Phantom wasn’t human. Sure he would fly through the skies, turn invisible, and shoot ectoplasm at the ghosts who would attack the city on a daily basis, but the way he acted when not saving the city always seemed so alive. That’s where the problem lied though. The ghost kid wasn’t alive, a fact that Amity Park never actually thought much about.
Phantom was playing around with some kids in the park when it all happened. It wasn’t an uncommon occurrence to see the boy play with the younger citizens of the city, under their parents supervision most of the time. Seeing him give them piggyback rides and playing tag was actually a common sight when there were no ghosts to fight. Phantom had six different kids hanging off of his arms and legs, apparently trying to tackle him and get him to fall down. The group of parents laughed at the sight as the teenage hero fell to the ground admitting his defeat in a dramatic flourish. “Ahh you got me! Foul villains, you will regret this!” He laughed as he lunged at the closest kid and launched a tickle attack. Childish squeels rang out as the uncaptured children ran trying to avoid being tickled. The little girl in his arms was finally released from her attacker when she turned on Phantom and started to tickle him back. His laughter attracted the other kids who scattered and they joined the counter attack.
“I yield I yield!” He flailed his arms as a dozen little hands tickled any spot they could reach. The kids slowly let up their assault leaving the teen gasping for breath.
One of the children, the girl who started the attack on Phantom, pulled on his arm. “Mr. Phantom? What’s that did you get a owie?” She asked pointing to his neck where part of his jumpsuit wrinkled down revealing a few red raised streaks maring his skin.
Phantom froze eyes jumping over to the adults just a few feet over who had stopped their conversation to try to see what the young girl was asking about. He quickly pulled the collar of his suit back into place. He gave the girl and the other kids surrounding him a pained smile. “Yeah I did get an owie. Don’t worry though I’m fine, doesn’t even hurt anymore.” Suddenly blue frost escaped his lips, the adults sitting nearby never saw him more relieved to have a ghost show up than in that moment. He gave quick goodbyes to the kids before shooting off to find the day's threat to the city.
All the adults gathered waved over their respective kids. While they trusted Phantom to get rid of the threat it was always smart to stay inside during a ghost attack. A loud boom sounded in the direction where Phantom flew off, shaking the ground. They all gave each other uncertain looks. “My house is closest we can take shelter there.” One of the men said leading everyone away.
After a block of running the group was almost to shelter when the ghost fight moved over their heads. The adults grabbed onto the children doing their best to shield them from the flying debris. They held the kids against their chests as they watched the sky in horror. They didn’t recognize the attacking ghost, but it was certainly doing a number on Phantom. The rest of the battle lasted at most a minute when Phantom managed to suck up the ghost into his thermos before he seemed to wobble in the sky and falling to the ground creating a small crater where he landed.
The man who was leading the group passed off the kid he was holding to the man next to him. “David what are you-?”
“Brian just hold her.” He ran over to the fallen teen and picked him up in a fireman's carry and rushed the rest of the way to his house.
Once he arrived he kicked open the door and placed the teen onto the couch in his living room. He looked down trying to assess the situation. Phantom’s jumpsuit was torn in numerous places exposing spots of his arms, neck, and chest that had splatterings of green ectoplasm across the exposed flesh. He started taking the rest of the jumpsuit off of the teen wanting to make sure there were no hidden injuries underneath. Behind him he could hear his husband and the other parents come through the door. “Get me a wet rag and some warm water!” He yelled behind him.
Once he was handed the items he started working on cleaning up the cuts and wiping off the ectoplasm. He silently thanked any higher being out there that he took a first aid class a few years back. The wounds actually seemed less severe than what David initially thought, that or the kid had some seriously advanced healing. One of the parents led the kids upstairs while the rest of them crowded around David and Phantom.
Once Phantom was as patched up as he could be David finally sat back and actually took a full look at the boy. His breath caught in his throat as he examined the body infront of him. In the end all he could get out was.“Oh my god. He’s- he’s dead.”
“What the hell do you mean? Of course he’s not, I can clearly see him breathing right now.” One of the parents protested.
David shook his head. “No.” He went to run his hands down his face before spotting the blood- no the ectoplasm covering them and settled for grabbing onto his husband for support. “No, I mean he’s a ghost.”
“Well yeah he’s a ghost it’s not like that’s news now is it?” Brian said running his hand up and down his husband's back.
“You guys don’t get it.” David pulled back. “Think! Look!” He ran his hand through his hair, staining it green. “Look at him.” He pointed at the teen’s unconscious body. There were lightning shaped scars running all over the boy’s body, from the base of his neck trailing all the way down to his ankles. Those weren’t the only scars marring his body though, small scars were scattered all over his body, there was a rather large one on his abdomen in the same spot where he was hit the other week fighting off a ghost who was attacking the high school. The gathered adults looked back at Phantom’s face. As he slept he almost looked like a normal teenager, there were small bags under his eyes, his closed eyes hid the toxic green color, and the glow surrounding him was almost nonexistent.
Three things seemed to dawn on the parents all at once.
1: Phantom at some point had died
2: He died young, at most he was just out of middle school when it happened.
3: From the looks of it he didn’t die in his sleep but painfully. They all silently hoped that at least it wasn’t drawn out.
As they all looked at each other they couldn’t help but think of their own children who were just upstairs. Did Phantom have a family? Did his parents miss their little boy? Do they know that Phantom was their son? Even worse, the boy had a jumpsuit on when he died, was his parents the cause of his premature death?
Of course if Phantom was conscious, didn’t have to worry about the whole identity thing, and could read their minds the boy would quickly put their minds to rest responding; yes, no he sees them daily, god no, and sorta it really was more of a case of teenage stupidity than his parents fault though.
Two of those issues though were quickly resolved as two white rings shocked the group out of their grief for a boy they hardly knew. The rings traveled across the boy’s body replacing bare skin with street clothes and white hair with black. Everyone looked at Phantom(?) confused, the boy in front of them was very unghost-like and the scratch on his face that was previously bleeding green now had a red where the scab was forming.
“What the fu- wait isn’t that the Fenton kid, Danny I think?” David asked looking back at the other parents who were in the same amount of shock that he was. Actually he was positive it was him, his older sister Jazz used to babysit their daughter and he would sometimes come along. If someone was going to respond they were cut off as the boy in front of them started to stir and open his eyes. He sat up almost falling off the couch in his panic, thankfully David was quick enough to catch him. “Woah there Danny, be careful you took a pretty bad beating out there. Hell I’m surprised you’re already awake to be honest kid.”
Danny gave him a thankful smile as he steadied himself. He froze once he caught a glimpse of his hair, his eyes shot down to his clothes. He looked back up and noticed the group of adults in front of him. “Now before you jump to any conclusions there’s a very reasonable explanation for this, or there will be just give me a few minutes.” “Wait so does this mean you’re not dead?” Brian asked.
“Brian you can’t just ask that! What if it’s a sensitive subject?” David scolded his husband then looked over at Danny. “Sorry about him.”
Danny looked over to the men who for some reason had hope in their eyes. “What? It’s fine. I mean I guess no- well yes- no- sorta- it’s complicated.”
As Danny looked at the numerous questioning eyes he sighed. It’s not like he could convince them that it was a trick of the light or something. And he did owe them since they patched him up better than he would have been able to at home in his bedroom. But before he could start he turned to David. “I’ll tell you guys everything but first um… is that my ectoplasm in your hair and on your hands? Because if so you probably should wash that off, prolonged exposure isn’t harmful per say but you could start to glow or something if you don’t wash it off soon.”
David looked down to his hands, apparently just now remembering he was still covered in the boy’s ectoplasm and rushed to the bathroom to wash it off. He’d worry about why the sight of his own blood- ectoplasm didn’t phase Danny at all later.
Once David returned, now free of ectoplasm, Danny sat down and started from the beginning. At one point in the story he must have started to cry because he was handed a tissue box, which he accepted with a thanks. By the end he wasn’t the only one with tears in his eyes, one of the adults had to go into the kitchen to compose themselves. Danny didn’t really understand why though, sure he sort of half died, but he didn’t see why it would affect any of them. “Hey! It’s fine, I’m fine it’s not a big deal! I mean it’s not like it only happened to me. Vlad went through it too like 20 years ago.” Danny seized up after he said that. “Don’t tell him you know about him though! Me not telling anyone about him is the only reason he’s not trying to fully kill me when we fight. That and he has a weird obsession with my mom and me.”
David paused at that. “So you’re telling us that not only did you go through a highly traumatic situation at a young age, but the only adult that even knows about it has tried to kill you multiple times?”
“I mean I guess but Jazz, my sister, knows about it too and she’s older than me and my friends.”
“Danny she’s also still a kid, an older one sure, but she is not an adult. Even if you didn’t go to your parents, was there no one else you could have talked to about it with? A therapist maybe?” David asked.
Danny laughed. “Ah no, Jazz tried having me go to the school therapist but she turned out to be a ghost who wanted to try to cause as much pain as possible. She even almost killed Jazz in front of the whole school.”
“Dear god.” David sighed. “All right, we will all keep your secret on one condition.”  Danny cringed and looked down at his lap, of course there was a catch. He just hoped it wasn’t anything too bad like letting them run a bunch of experiments on him whenever they wanted to. His ghost injuries were bad enough to hide from others, he didn’t need to have to explain away needle marks or something. “You’ll see Brian once a week for therapy sessions. He’s a licensed psychiatrist.”
“Wait what?” Danny looked up confused.
“Oh don’t worry I won’t charge you of course since we are forcing you to do this, and obviously you can choose the day of the week. I usually don't work fridays or the weekends but if those are the only days that work I’m sure we can rearrange some of our family time to make room for you.” Brian smiled. “Now it’s getting pretty late isn’t it? I’m sure it’s about time everyone here starts to head home now hmm? Of course if you aren’t feeling well enough Danny I can call your parent’s up and just let them know you’ll be staying here. I’ll just tell them you were injured in a ghost fight, not exactly lying now is it?”
“Um no I’m fine enough to walk home thank you though.” Danny said. Everyone started saying their goodbyes and calling the children down to get them ready to leave. Danny was the last one left, he was almost out the door when he was stopped by David handing him a piece of paper.
“Here are our numbers, I also wrote down where Brian’s office is, you can set up your appointment over text. As well as our address, you can stop by or call us for any reason Danny and I mean it okay, any.”
Danny looked down at the paper and pocketed it with a nod. As he left he felt almost lighter for some reason. Maybe having adults who knew and didn’t want to kill him but actually wanted to help him wasn’t so bad after all.

@hardheadedbighearted
It had all started after Gyro Gearloose had stormed out of Amity in an emotional mess.
The drive home had been absolute hell; Gyro barely keeping it together long enough to focus on the road, and letting out a sigh of relief when he crossed into the familiar streets of Duckburg.
He couldn’t go back. Not after what had happened.
He knew that his time with Pietro, the time spent with a mentor who was just so...so kind, so understanding...one who actually cared about his input and would even go so far as to give him the occasional compliment...
It would never last. It never lasted.
He was an outsider there, and he’d known that for ages.
So why did it hurt so bad?
To know that he really couldn’t go back, not after James had found out about his involvement? To know that Fenton, Fenton, was now a Class-S, a ranking for only the top folks at the labs, with only a very select few above them, and it would only be a matter of time before James asked to hire him on a more permanent basis?
To know everything he already knew about Boyd and his love for Amity, and that it was still only a matter of time before he decided to start going there on a more permanent basis?
To know that everyone who had associated themselves with him were respected, were appreciated, were thriving while he was inevitably left behind?
Why, why, WHY?!
“...You know why, Gearloose,” he said to himself, unable to fight back his tears anymore.
God, he was so selfish. Crying to himself over the fact that everyone he knew was going off and being successful, while he was left behind like he should be. He didn’t deserve to be included in their happiness, in their successes...
He didn’t deserve the things they were getting, and he knew it.
“WATCH IT, ASSHOLE!”
Snapping out of his thoughts, Gyro slammed on the brakes so hard at the sound of some man yelling at him as he crossed the street in front of him, that the little Darkwing Duck bobble head (Couldn’t Launchpad have taken that out of the car before he lent it to him?!) was jolted forwards from the impact, then violently tossed backwards onto the passenger’s seat with a ‘Let’s Get Dangerous!’ outcry as it hit the seat.
Or...it would’ve hit the seat if it wasn’t currently suspended about half a foot in the air by an invisible source.
Eyes wide and with the reaction time of a jackrabbit, Gyro lunged his arm at the...whatever-it-was, and gripped it tightly in his hand as he attempted to get a close look at it.
Whatever it was, its cloaking mechanism dropped when Gyro clenched it tightly, revealing something small and round, with an obvious camera lens on the front.
Gyro’s stomach dropped as he stared putting the pieces together. The strange shimmers out of the corners of his eyes over the past few months, only for him to see nothing at all when he turned his head?
“I knew I wasn’t just seeing things...” he said in a hushed tone, putting the car back into drive and continuing on his way, much quicker than before.
He had to get back to the lab as soon as possible. Whoever had been spying on him was probably aware that he’d caught onto it by that point. He had to get back, had to turn on the security system...
Had to find out what was going on before it was too late...
----------
The first thing Gyro was conscious of upon opening his eyes was bright lights. Not necessarily the kind one would see upon dying, but not not those kind of lights either.
It took about five seconds of consciousness for him to conclude that they were hospital lights, and that he was lying in a hospital bed.
And it took about ten seconds for him to look at his lack of left arm to remember the events that had transpired to lead him here.
He sighed a tired sigh, sinking further into the pillow behind him as he looked around the room.
Much to his surprise, he was not alone. Not only was Fenton dead asleep in one of the available chairs, but Pietro’s own chair was parked at his bedside, Boyd curled up in his arms.
Boyd...
Oh no...
The memory of what had happened was coming back to him now, much clearer than it had been over the past few days. How much had Boyd seen? How long had all of them been here?
...Oh, God, how much did they know? Did they know about Akita?!
Slowly, he wordlessly pulled himself up into a sitting position, a cold sweat overtaking his entire body.

I don't think I'll ever be over Knock, Kock, Knockin' On Hooty's Door and Eclipse Lake
Luz being all panicky about the idea of asking Amity out, "I'll never make my way into Amity's heart- I mean make a portal back home," Luz calling Amity a cotton-candy haired goddess, Luz gushing about Amity to the echo mouse, the implication that Luz is so worried about asking Amity out because she was rejected by previous crushes for being too "cheesy" and now she's afraid of scaring Amity off by coming on too strong or being mushy, Amity's little blush when Luz helps her out of the giant owl pellet, Luz back-peddling when Amity says she wants to forget about the kiss because she doesn't realize Amity just doesn't want to scare her off, the hugging and blushing after the floor moves, them clinging to each other for safety the whole way down the chute, the pillow winking at Luz, Luz panicking and setting the pillow on fire because it reflects her "cheesy" super romantic nature and she is absolutely terrified of showing that side of herself to Amity and making herself vulnerable to more rejection, Luz's facial expressions throughout the entire tunnel of love sequence as she is slowly consumed by the dread of Amity potentially thinking less of her or worse not wanting to be around her anymore, Amity blushing and fidgeting once she realizes what this whole tunnel of love thing is about and sees Luz's real opinions about her displayed on the sign, Amity getting really sad when she sees Luz is so resistant to the tunnel of love and getting visibly upset when Luz starts flipping out and destroying everything in her panic, Amity feeling like she's been rejected because of Luz's attempt to not be rejected (the irony and parallels are so good), Amity crying and thus alerting Luz to the fact that she done fucked up and Amity actually does want to date her, them being caught in a sapphic glitter bomb slo-mo moment together (followed immediately by more Bi Panic ™ from Luz), Luz freezing up when Eda asks her about how Hooty was trying to help her because she doesn't want to admit in front of Amity that she was trying to ask her out, Eda being super supportive and telling Luz that if she wants to ask Amity out she should go for it, Luz being herself and asking Amity if she's okay after Hooty wrecks the ground, all of the facial expressions and body language during the scene where they are asking each other out is so wonderfully awkward and adorable and perfectly captures what it's like to be a young queer person entering your first relationship, Amity admitting that she isn't too cool for the sappy "cheesy" stuff that Luz likes to do, the heart on the ground, Hooty referring to Amity as "Luz's new GF," Hooty's smile of satisfaction at having successfully set Luz and Amity up
Amity being super nurturing and making an abomination just to hold tissues for and otherwise tend to Luz while Amity is busy with other tasks, Amity checking on Luz and being worried about how a magical disease might affect her, Amity confiscating the portal key for Luz's safety, Luz's pouting being quickly overtaken by her urge to message Amity "UR PRETTY," Amity not understanding the message but trying to be supportive anyway, Amity taking every opportunity to say out loud that she's Luz's girlfriend (which feels very true to a young person in a new relationship, honestly, I do this as self-talk when I've recently started dating someone so I can totally relate), Amity bursting in to help when she hears Luz yelling, Amity volunteering to go on a dangerous mission just to help Luz, Eda being like, "Yeah, yeah, we get it, you're Luz's girlfriend and it's adorable, moving on," Eda having a nickname for Amity? (Boots) and telling her to grab a coat like the mom she is, Amity taking her mission super seriously, Amity telling Hunter to watch it when he sounds like he might be threatening Luz, Luz messaging Amity "UR RAD," Hunting projecting onto Luz and Amity's situation based on his trauma, Amity having that short period of doubt because Hunter's projecting triggered her own trauma, Amity asserting that she is an awesome girlfriend, Luz being desperate to reach Amity to warn her of the previously unknown added layer of danger, Amity catching and clutching the chat device in a way that tells us it's one of her most prized possessions, Amity confiding in King about the message Hunter projected onto and King quickly putting her fears to rest because Amity trusts him enough to listen when he shows her another way to look at the situation, "Of course, this is Luz we're talking about," Amity inadvertently gushing about Luz when she says "there are people out there who won't make you feel worthless" while she's comforting Hunter and reaching out a literal and figurative hand to him just the way Luz would (thus actively choosing to be the bigger person, but more importantly a better person than she was at the beginning of season one), "Oh, come on! Being nice usually works for Luz," Amity being visibly scared when Hunter says he knows where to find Luz, Amity playing 5D chess with the portal key, Luz clutching the messaging device in her hand even while she's asleep because it's clearly very important to her as well, Luz calling Amity her awesome girlfriend immediately upon seeing her, Amity's little blush and smile after Luz calls her an awesome girlfriend
Their relationship is so cute and layered, I can't even, I can't wait to see what comes next for them!

Dystopia pt 8 (FINALE)
Tumblr media
Summary: You were an Amity born. You were taught to value kindness and harmony. But you also valued bravery and knowledge. After the test to see which faction best suited you, you were given the choice to either stay in your faction or leave. When you chose to leave your faction for another, your whole life changed and you wondered if it was the right decision. You pondered over it at first, all until you met him.
Theme: Divergent au, strangers to lovers
Genre: mild action [I tried], angst, fluff, slowburn
Warnings: mentions of blood and violence
WC: 3.6k
Pairing: Trainer!Jungkook x Initiate!FemReader
Tips: In this whole series, Y/N is a few years younger than JK. Those who were initiates like Y/N that just ended the Choosing Ceremony, are all the same age. None of these characters portray who the mentioned people are in real life whatsoever! It's just a fictional character!
a/n: Hello! Guess what? You made it to the end! I know this is a short series but I'm more than thankful if you have made it this far. Although it's quite short for a finale, I hope I didn't disappoint you too much! But anyways, here's the final part for this series :) Enjoyyy
~~~
Tumblr media
With hurried steps, all three of them quickly hollered their way through the facility in hopes that they would reach the dorms in time. Jungkook’s heart was beating so fast against his chest, unsure if he could even calm himself down knowing something bad had happened to you. That was the last thing he wanted. From the day he saw you a few weeks back, he knew he would like you.
He knew there was something about you that leaves him being all clammy and nervous despite his amazing skill at hiding his emotions. Jungkook never knew he would manage to get close to you, thinking it was impossible considering he was a trainer and you were an initiate.
However, it looks like fate has a different plan for you and him when he saw you training by yourself in the middle of the night. That was when he first got to have a close interaction with you.
Even though it was just him teaching you basic tips on how to improve your skills for each of the different skill sets, he still got to talk to you and also earn your trust after a while. And as the days gradually went by, it was needless to say that Jungkook had grown so fond of you and even had a crush on you.
Yes, a Dauntless Trainer having a crush on a Dauntless Initiate.
How cute.
Ultimately, it all goes downhill for him as he finally arrives at the shared dormitory, only to find the rest of the initiates crowding around at one spot. The minute Jungkook and Changkyun pushed through the crowd, their hearts stopped for a millisecond upon seeing what the fuss was about.
There you were, cradled in Hyunjae’s arms as Gahyeon was crying with her hands desperately pressing what looks to be a completely blood soaked towel against your throat.
Your throat has been slit, not too deep to kill you but just enough to render you voiceless.
Tumblr media
You were just turning around on your bed when you peeked your eyes open out of instinct, feeling as though you were being watched. Except, you weren’t expecting for it to be legit. Because the minute you opened your eyes, there was a hooded figure looming over you with a hand raised to their head level with what looks to be a knife from the Training Room.
Fuck!
Before your mind could react, your body seemed to move faster as your arms swiveled to a cross position over your face right when the person launched his attack to your head.
With the tip of its blade just barely missing your right eye socket.
You used all your energy to shove their hand away using your arms, only to kick their stomach harshly. They stumbled back a little before lunging back at you. However, you quickly rolled out of bed to your left, falling to the ground with a soft thud just as they plunged the blade into the mattress right where your chest would’ve been.
You rushed to your feet, making a break for it to the open toilet but your steps faltered when you felt a sharp stab to your calf.
“Ah! Fuck!” You loudly hissed to yourself.
The blade got pulled out of your leg harshly, only for you to flip around on the ground.
The person kneeled over you as they tried to stab you in the face again but you managed to grab their wrist with both hands. They were strong. A little too strong if you say so yourself. However, for some reason, you felt like you knew this person.
You were struggling. You were struggling hard to push their hand away. Mustering whatever strength you had left, you used all your power to push them back.
For a moment, you were glad that they nearly fell off you.
However, you weren’t mentally and physically ready for what he was about to do next. And that was for him to make one swift swing of his arm. It all happened so fast, you didn’t even realize what he did until you felt something wet trickle down your neck. You tried to curse at them but instead you were shocked when nothing came out of your mouth.
That wasn’t until one of your hands reached up for your throat and you felt it.
The open slit, the feeling of wet liquid, your nostrils filling with the strong smell of copper, and finally, bringing your fingers up to see your fingers coated in your own red crimson blood.
Your mouth hung agape as you tried to speak but there was nothing. Tears welled up in your eyes as the person got up and smirked down at you.
“Goodnight loser. I hope you rot in hell.”
They soon took off running, leaving you there helpless with no voice to scream for help, to tell people who did it. But of course, you weren’t stupid. Despite the lack of light, only an idiot couldn’t catch on easily. For there is only one person who calls you ‘Loser’ right from the start. Your doubts were confirmed the minute that nickname left their lips.
Dumb move Yeonjun.
Since you couldn’t scream for help, you slowly began to drag yourself across the room, leaving a long trail of blood behind your leg where you got stabbed only to reach the end of Gahyeon’s bed.
With one swift grasp, you managed to hold onto her shirt and that was enough to wake her.
It took her a second to realize what happened until she saw the trail of blood on the floor and your bleeding throat that you were desperately putting pressure on. She let out a shrilling scream before yelling for help from the others. Everyone began to panic at the gruesome scene, making Hyunjae cradle you while Yunho rushed out to get help.
Tumblr media
Jungkook carried you to the hospital wing, with Gahyeon, Hyunjae, Yunho and Changkyun tagging along. One of the nurses inspected your injury, seeing that you’ve lost quite a bit of blood. She mentioned that they had to give you some blood in order to save you and they have to be the same blood type as yours. After much inspection, it was clear that only Jungkook and Hyunjae shared the same blood type as you.
Both of them offered to donate some of their blood to you to save your life. While the two were being drawn of their blood, Changkyun went ahead and brought the other two back to their dormitory to rest. You were already laying there on the medical bed unconscious which means you couldn’t feel the way Gahyeon gently gave your blood coated hands a small squeeze.
“Please be okay, Y/N.” She whispered as a tear rolled down her cheek. Yunho comforted the girl before they both left with Changkyun.
A few minutes later, the nurse managed to collect as much blood as you probably needed after losing them quite a bit. She placed a bandaid over the spots where she injected the tube in their arms. After she was done, she dismissed the two boys but Jungkook asked if he could stay.
She nodded, setting up the equipment so that the blood she collected from the two gentlemen could be transferred into your body through the IV in your hand.
Hyunjae left after caressing the top of your head, wishing you a speedy recovery.
The nurse went ahead and disinfected your wounds before suturing the open cuts and wrapping them with bandages. Once she was done, she excused herself, leaving you alone with Jungkook as the male went over to scoot his chair closer to your side. Jungkook carefully reaches for your hand that didn’t have the needle attached. He brings it up to his lips, kissing your knuckles softly.
“I’m so sorry… I’m so sorry I couldn’t protect you. I’m sorry this happened to you Y/N. You truly don’t deserve this…” Jungkook whispered as he stood up to plant a gentle kiss on your forehead.
He felt sorry. He felt sick. He felt confused. But more importantly, he felt furious at whoever did this to you. Of course he didn’t know who but you knew.
Tumblr media
You woke up to a sharp pain in your throat, feeling it get itchy like an unusual sore throat. The prickling pain in your right calf made your leg jolt as you shot your tired eyes open. The morning sun filled the room. You carefully looked around to find you alone in the room which looks to be the hospital wing.
Memories from last night suddenly came flashing into your mind like a tsunami, and yet, you still couldn’t wrap your mind around it.
Did that really happen?
Was it all a dream?
You almost didn’t want to believe it until your hands reached up to your throat and you felt the soft material of the bandage taped onto your neck. Of course, your stubbornness was trying to make you think otherwise so you opened your mouth to speak.
Truth be told, nothing comes out of your mouth. Absolutely nothing. Not even a sound.
Your thoughts were swirling, a million things running across your head at that very moment. From the incident last night to the final evaluation test you were supposed to have today. The test was supposed to determine your final results of your initiation. It was supposed to determine whether you get to stay in Dauntless or you get kicked out and become Factionless.
Of course, there are two ways of getting that second option. First is by failing Stage 3, and second is of course by not attending the final test at all.
How wonderful.
As your mind was swirling with these complications, you completely missed the figure that was making their way to you. It wasn’t until they were a few feet from you that you looked up only to lock eyes with Jungkook.
Immediately, a whole swarm of emotions came rushing through you as you began to cry. Jungkook rushed over to you, only to hush you.
“Shh… Shh… Don’t cry. It’s okay. I’m here. You’re fine. I’m here.” Jungkook cooed as he held you in his arms, feeling the way your arms wrapped around his waist tightly like you were afraid he might disappear if you let go. His heart swelled upon feeling his shirt get soaked from your tears.
Your silent cries only made his heart drop even more. Jungkook caressed the back of your head lovingly, making sure to give you small reassuring kisses to the side of your head as a way to hopefully calm you down.
You both stayed like that for a bit before he sang you a sweet song in your ear.
Jungkook felt your body relax in his touch, happy that his singing made you calmer. After a while, he pulled away slowly to look you in the eye. How is it possible that you are just sitting there crying your eyes out and yet you still looked beautiful? Or maybe it’s just him.
Who knows.
Nevertheless, he wipes your tears with his thumbs and soon smiles down at you.
“You’re so strong. You’re a strong girl Y/N. And I really admire you for that.” He whispered. You couldn’t help but crack a tiny smile when you felt him boop your nose with his own. You had so much to say to him. So much you wanted to share with him. Unfortunately, luck wasn’t on your side today. Just then, Jungkook’s smile faltered and it made you curious.
You reached for his wrist where his hand was just cupping your face softly, to catch his attention. You silently asked him what’s wrong through your worried eyes, hoping he could read your mind.
Thankfully, he did.
“The final stage… It starts in 5 minutes. I talked to the leaders about your current condition. I tried my best to change their mind, Changkyun did try too… Unfortunately, the leaders made an agreement to… disqualify you, which means… y-you…” Jungkook paused as he struggled to convey the message to you but you already knew what it meant.
You violently shook your head at him. You had to redeem yourself. You didn’t plan for this to happen. You were forced to be in this damn medical bed out of your own will. Oh if only they saw who did this to you, would they gladly throw him to the Factionless.
“Decision has been made. Since you can’t physically be there, you’re immediately disqualified.” Jungkook said as you shook your head again. There must be something about the way you were staring at him because at that very moment, it was as though you sent him a message through telepathy.
“Wait a minute… For the final test, you don’t need to talk. You… just need to be physically there for the simulation.” Jungkook said in realization as your eyes lit up.
Tumblr media
“Does that mean… she’s immediately disqualified?” Gahyeon asked sadly, only for Hyunjae to nod.
“I mean, technically according to the rules, you are supposed to be here physically for the final test… So, I guess that’s true then…” Hyunjae said.
The rest of them who were gathered by the side of the hall where the final stage would take place, shared mostly the same emotions about you not being able to join them which would render you as Factionless by default even after all your hard work.
However, it looks like someone couldn’t care less about you not making it.
“Who cares? She doesn't belong in Dauntless anyway.” Yeonjun rolls his eyes as he walks to the front, leaning against one of the pillars. Your friends exchanged a few glances to one another, not feeling good about the way he said that. A few minutes passed, and they had just finished the test with the third person on the list. All the initiates were anxious as they waited for their turn. Soon enough, the Dauntless leader calls out the next name to be on stage.
“Y/F/N.”
With that, the room fell silent as the initiates looked at each other with deep frowns on their faces. A few beats of silences went by, not a single sign of you anywhere. Meanwhile, Yeonjun had that devilish smirk on his face as he felt satisfied with your lack of presence.
Unfortunately, just as the leader was about to call out the next person on the list, Jungkook’s voice echoed around the hall from the opposite end of where the initiates were gathered. That’s when Jungkook emerged through the double doors with you beside him.
He had one arm wrapped around your waist as you limped your way to the platform where the chair was waiting for you. Your friends cheered for your arrival as they shouted a string of goodlucks to you. Yeonjun growled, totally not expecting to find you still alive.
Maybe he didn’t cut you deep enough.
You immediately recognized the lady who was prepping the tools to put you into simulation, to be the same lady you met on your Initiation test.
After you sat down, Jungkook gave your waist a little squeeze before he smiled down at you and whispered, “Goodluck.”
He soon left your side as the lady asked you if you were ready. You gave her a small nod, letting her inject the needle into your neck right below your ear.
Once the serum had been injected into your system, it took effect right away, bringing you to your first simulation. It was the same simulations you went through during your Stage 2. They were all of your fears connecting one simulation to the other. You managed to remember what Jungkook taught you during the past few weeks and how to properly handle each situation like a fellow Dauntless.
The minute your last simulation ended, you woke up calmly only for the lady to smile.
“You did well.” She complimented you as she helped you sit up. Jungkook came to your side and very gently led you off the platform.
“Good job. Looks like my tips worked huh?” Jungkook asked, to which you smiled, feeling shy all of a sudden. He guided you to the side only for your friends to rush over to you.
“Sweetie! You’re okay! How are you?” Gahyeon asked as she hugged you, making you return her hug. You showed an ‘okay’ sign with your hand before Yunho ruffled your hair. “Of course you are, you’re a beast Y/N.” His comment made some of them laugh, including you. Just then, your eyes drifted to your left only to meet Yeonjun’s fiery eyes.
All you wanted to do was throw him in The Pit. The last thing you wanted was to see his competitive ass everyday from now on.
However, you weren’t going to kill him despite all the pain he’s caused you.
After letting you meet up with your friends, Jungkook brought you back to his penthouse to let you rest. He carefully laid you down on his bed, pulling his blanket up to your chest while you snuggled into his side with your head resting on his chest. Jungkook chuckled as he caressed your hair, tucking them behind your ear, making sure to let his fingers softly trace the side of your face as he did so.
“No matter what the results are, I’m never leaving your side. That, I can promise you.” Jungkook said softly as you tilted your head up to look at him. You wished you could speak. You wished you could verbally say this to him outloud. Unfortunately you couldn’t.
In the end, you opted for the saying ‘Actions speak louder than words’ and so, with that being said, you lifted your head up and used your left elbow to prop your body up on the mattress.
Jungkook watched you carefully as you slowly leaned in only to press your lips softly on his. Almost instantly, he wrapped one arm around your waist while the other allowed his fingers to tangle into your soft locks. You reached a hand up to cup his cheek, letting your thumb trace the scar he had on his left cheekbone. You felt him smile against your lips as he pulled away for a breath.
His eyes fluttered open to find your cute ones staring back at him. Jungkook couldn’t help but chuckle as he gently massaged your scalp in a calming manner.
“If that is your way of telling me what I think it is, then I’ll be the one to confirm verbally that I feel the same way too…” Jungkook’s voice was smooth and sultry in your ears, it almost made you melt into a puddle. Almost.
So with one more kiss from him, your heart raced in your chest as he pulled away to let his lips hover over yours before he said the words you’ve been meaning to tell him.
“I love you Y/N.”
Tumblr media
Prologue
6 months had passed, you ended up staying in Dauntless together with Gahyeon, Hyunjae and Yunho. Right after the final stage, you gave Jungkook the weapon Yeonjun used to attack you the night before the final stage. After investigating the weapon and finding evidence that confirms Yeonjun was indeed the attacker, he was immediately thrown out of Dauntless. Rendering him Factionless.
Yes, that jerk deserved it.
Yunho was given the role of a guard due to his unfortunate ranking but hey, at least he wasn’t Factionless.
Gahyeon was a trainer for Dauntless-born initiates while you and Hyunjae were trainers for faction transfers. Although, you only started becoming one after the 3rd month when you were starting to be able to talk again.
And how was your relationship with Jungkook, might I ask?
Well, just splendid.
Your relationship with him only grew stronger each day as he took care of you during the first few months when you still had difficulties to talk. He was always there for you when you needed someone to back you up in heated arguments.
Jungkook took you to visit your parents the day after the final stage. No doubt your parents got upset over what happened to their daughter, they were more than thankful that you were still alive and that Jungkook was there to keep you sane. As the months go by, Jungkook’s feelings for you bloomed.
Today was another day of training for you and your initiates where you managed to guide the new initiates along with Hyunjae’s help.
You were just standing off to the side, letting Hyunjae take over for the knife throwing session when you suddenly felt a pair of strong arms wrapping itself around your waist. You giggled as you turned your head to find Jungkook’s face just mere inches away from yours.
“Not here, love… We’re in the middle of training.” You whispered, earning a soft chuckle from him before he peppered your cheek with kisses.
“Can’t I just give my beautiful girlfriend some loving kisses before I go to my meeting?” Jungkook teased, making you giggle.
“Aren’t you being needy?” You laughed.
“Only when I miss you…”
“We literally saw each other an hour ago, Kook.”
“I know.” Jungkook grinned cutely at you only for you to push his face away gently while you laughed.
“Hmm, needy indeed.”
“Hey…” He pouted at you. Of course your heart couldn’t bear to see his sad pout so you turned to face him completely. Reaching up with both hands to hold his face, you pressed your lips on his before pulling away to see his silly smile on his face.
“I love you.” You whispered as you felt him hug you.
“I love you more.”
That was the last thing you heard as Changkyun’s voice beckons your boyfriend over from a few feet behind Jungkook. “Come on lovebird, we gotta go… See you later Y/N.” Changkyun chuckled as he wiggled his index finger towards Jungkook. Your boyfriend gives you one last kiss before he jogs over to his older friend.
Maybe joining Dauntless wasn’t as bad as you thought after all.
Out of Time (4)
Dan frowned as he looked down at Amity Park under the green shield. His wail definitely made a dent, but now it seemed like the infernal thing was back to normal. He brought himself down toward it, standing on top of it as he looked beneath him. The logo printed on his chest was visible across the town from this angle, shining hopefully up through the buildings through the shield and at the spectre above. It sickened him.
Walking across it, he felt the shield sizzle against his boots; the electric power keeping him out but also something else, something he couldn't quite place. "Figures," the dark Phantom muttered, testing it with his weight. "Even in this timeline, the brat still thinks he has a chance." His hands ignited with energy, darkening rapidly as he considered his next move. The energy dissipated as he gasped, heat rising from his core and through his nose as the shield shifted below his feet. Dan chuckled, waiting for an attack or quip, but it didn't come. Mildly intrigued at the lack of attack, he turned; this timeline's Danny Phantom floated up and out of the shield slowly, landing gracefully on top of the shield with a soft thud. Dan eyed the teen; still young, the infuriating green eyes and messy white hair still matched what he presumed the human half mirrored. Dan watched as small waves of power rippled at the boy's feet. "Surprised to see me?" he taunted.
Danny crossed his arms, but remained silent. His eyes looked the evil ghost over as he reassessed the situation. Namely how much he wasn't ready for this fight. The shield beneath his feet hummed as some of its energy started to flow back to his body, making him feel more confident in his powers for the first time in days. His confidence in his powers, however, did nothing to quell the uneasiness he felt as he stared back at his future self.
"What? Nothing to say?" he goaded. "No 'But I defeated you?' 'Not possible?'" He gestured to the shield below them. "But you gave me such a great welcome!"
Danny's eyes narrowed slightly. "Why are you here?" he asked finally.
Dan's eyebrow rose slightly. "Really? I thought it would be obvious by now." His hands ignited with green ecto-energy, making the younger half-ghost tense slightly.
"This isn't your world," Danny told him, hands also igniting in ecto-energy. "Not anymore."
"Of course it isn't," the evil ghost smirked. His ecto-energy disappeared as he started to pace around the teen. "You trapped me in a thermos for what? A year? Did you think I would just go away? I've been here for 10 years Danny. I'm inevitable."
"So what now? You know I'll never become you," Danny said. He looked down at the town below; the town's people were starting to notice the two ghosts above them.
Dan smirked at the worry his younger counterpart held for the town. "Funny isn't it, how they look like insects from up here," he replied, ignoring the question and drawing a glare from the younger ghost. Dan smiled slightly as he saw Danny's mask crack. "Feels like it too, when you watch them run from an ecto-blast." Danny's eyes lit up a little more neon in anger. The darker Phantom chuckled humourlessly. "How long do you think this will hold me Danny? How long before you realize you can't protect them from yourself." He smiled wickedly, his fists shining brightly against his aura. "Especially, when I do this!" Dan released a stream of ecto-energy towards shield, causing it to spark at the sudden attack. The shield rebound the energy upwards, sending a shower of green to explode above them under the grey clouds overhead. Dan watched the teen falter slightly; catching the way he tried to hide how much that blast affected him. The evil ghost smiled predatorily, confirming his theory as Danny let out a deep breath before meeting his gaze with a glare. "Oh, did that hurt? How about this!"
Dan flew straight for the teen, blast at the ready. Danny hastily brought up a small ecto-shield, managing to block the attack with some effort. Dan pushed down onto the shield, but Danny pushed back, repelling his older self backward. Flying up, Danny fired a flurry of ice blasts toward Dan, who dodged them with ease. The evil Phantom caught an ice blast and melted it, staring the younger down. Danny's eyes widened in shock slightly before launching himself toward the target. They tumbled in the air twice until Dan caught his balance, grabbed Danny's arm and threw him away from the battle. Danny landed hard on top of the shield, crying out in surprise as he skidded to a stop. Crouched low, he sent a disc of ecto-energy back at the ghost. It hit its mark, but Dan walked straight through, almost as if it didn't affect him.
Crap Danny thought, dodging a blast with a back handspring. He hissed as the missed blast hit the shield again. How do I manage this?
"What's your plan here?" Dan goaded, splitting himself in three. "You can't surprise me with the wail anymore. It's not like you have anything to beat me."
Eyes shining blue, Danny launched a series of ice blasts towards Dan. Caught by surprise, two of the duplicates disappeared as the older ghost growled. Dan's fists glowed light blue as a series of flames launched at the younger boy. Danny yelped but defended himself with an ice blast. The blasts collided, holding fast between the two ghosts. The fire blast started to push the ice blast back, Danny gritted his teeth as he was pushed back against the shield. Eventually, it exploded, sending both ghosts flying.
Danny hissed as small flames burned his hand. He stood up slowly and glared across the shield as Dan did the same. His future self smiled cruelly as he laughed. "Really?" he asked. "Did you think an ice core would do much against a heat one? My hair is literally on fire."
"Yeah, you're a real hot head," Danny retorted. Again, he launched an ice blast, this time freezing the top of the shield and Dan's feet to the shield. With the evil ghost trapped, he froze a ball of ecto-energy and threw it at Dan, watching it explode. Dan stood up slowly, glaring at Danny. Both Phantoms held the glare for a few tense seconds before they flew at each other.
:-=-:
Clockwork frowned atop the current apartment roof he called his home, watching Danny face off against his future self. They were locked in combat, trading punches and quips. Thankfully, they looked evenly matched. Clockwork shifted into a form of a child as he looked at his staff worriedly. If he was right, it wouldn't be long now.
"Are we going to let him have all the fun?"
Clockwork didn't turn as he felt Ethelwulf appear beside him. The Time Master could sense the concern for the boy oozing off the ghost; it almost rivalled his own. "Patience," Clockwork said calmly.
Ethelwulf scoffed. "That's all you ever say," he replied with a growl. His black wings opened, stretching up in anticipation. "That shield has been up for as long as we've been here; Danny's putting too much energy into it. If his future self is as powerful as you say he is, we should be doing more!"
"Everything is as it should be," Clockwork said, shifting forms into adulthood.
"Forgive me, I forgot how insufferable you can be," Ethelwulf countered, with a roll of his eyes. "Clockwork, he can't keep this up for much longer. We need to help him."
Clockwork ignored him, closing his eyes. He felt the world move, time shifting through the twists and turns of the time stream. The battles to come and the price made him shutter as he hoped that he was wrong. He sensed the battle above the town; Danny and Dan floated ten feet away from each other, the former looking more run down than the latter.
Three. Both Phantoms manoeuvred their way to the top of the shield again, neither looking away from the other. Clockwork's eyes flew open as he felt the timeline slow.
Two. Danny tensed as the older ghost yelled something at him. They both took a deep breath in quickly, bracing for what was to come.
One. Both Phantoms unleashed their wails, colliding in a wall of sound. The ground shook, as the raw power reverberated overhead. Screams from the town echoed below.
"Time out!"
A pulse of power erupted from within Clockwork's being and through his staff, a wave of blue washing over the town and outward. Grunting softly, the Master of Time doubled over in pain as the wave pushed past the shield toward the rest of the world.
"Clockwork!" Ethelwulf exclaimed, moving closer to his friend. Yellow eyes quickly assessed the ghost in concern.
Clockwork shifted into the form of an old man, hunched over and glowing. As the world ground to a halt, the eerie silence was overrun by the deafening roar of the Ghostly Wails above them. Ethelwulf looked down below of the humans frozen before turning his gaze back to the time ghost. Clockwork sighed heavily, recovering from the initial pain of stopping time before he looked at the confused face of wolfish companion.
"Why didn't they stop?" Ethelwulf asked, worry laced in his tone. The wail continued, unconcerned at the halt of time. "Clockwork – why didn't they stop?"
Clockwork's old eyes looked up at Danny Phantom with worry and self-loathing. "It's begun."
:-=-:
Danny's limbs shook as he continued the wail. He was siphoning the energy from the shield into the attack, but his evil self was powerful; there was no way he could keep this up for much longer. He was fading, vision swimming in front of him. Dan's wail started to push him backward but Danny stood his ground, pushing back. Eventually, the wails exploded, sending both ghosts flying backward and colliding hard with the shield.
Danny bit his lip as he felt the shield falter slightly. He focused in maintaining the shield, groaning in agony as he felt unconsciousness threaten to take him. Getting up on his hands and knees, he tried to shake his head to clear it.
"Is this it?" Danny stiffened as his evil self's snide drawl floated to his ears. "I almost expected more from you."
Come on Danny thought desperately. He searched deep within his core for any spare energy that he could muster.
"Still no quips?" the Dark Phantom provoked. He stomped the shield, releasing a small disc of ecto-energy from his feet. Danny cried out in pain as he felt it crack, but still managed to keep the shield. "Hmm… Maybe you're stronger than I give you credit for."
Realizing his only option, Danny breathed through the pain and focused on the raw energy deep within him. Already, he felt the electricity rise through his core, screaming to be released.
A wordless roar and a yelp of surprise broke through his concentration, making his eyes shoot open. Ethelwulf, appearing from nowhere, shot up through the shield and tackled Dan, large leathery wings moving like blades through combat. Dan retaliated quickly, sending multiple rounds of ecto-energy to his new foe. Ethelwulf dodged before sending a large series of ecto-blasts back at the evil spectre.
"Ethelwulf," Danny murmured in confusion. He pushed himself up slowly, standing slightly before falling. To his shock, a pair of hands grabbed him before he reached the surface of shield. Blue skin, a long grey beard and a purple cloaked ghost held the ghost boy up. "Clockwork?" Danny steadied himself with the help of the Time Master and looked at him in confusion. "What-"
"No time," Clockwork said simply, his voice still eerily serene even with the urgency in that statement. "Can you go on?" Danny nodded readily. Clockwork frowned, looking the boy over in hopes for a more truthful answer, but continued. "Okay, listen carefully. When time resumes – a natural portal will open and shut quickly above the town. We need to get Dan into it."
Danny looked from Clockwork to Ethelwulf and back again. "I don't understand," he said faintly, sinking further into Clockwork's grip.
"Later," Clockwork assured, holding him steady. "I'll explain when we get rid of the more pressing issue. Don't worry about the shield – focus on getting him out of your world."
Ethelwulf skidded across the shield, stopping in front of Clockwork and Danny. The wolf ghost growled protectively around the two. Dan floated down slowly, smirking at the trio of ghosts at his mercy.
"Meddling again Clockwork?" Dan asked, annoyed. He eyed the Time Master quickly, laughing as he saw the feeble form he was currently in. "What will you do, huh? Doesn't look like you're up to any tricks- Is that why you brought the mutt?"
Neither Ethelwulf nor Clockwork responded to the jab. Danny, on the other hand, broke away from Clockwork and stood his ground.
Dan laughed. "Oh, you're kidding me! Do you truly believe you three stand a chance against me? Don't you understand what I'm capable of?" A wave of ecto-energy flew at the evil ghost courtesy of Ethelwulf's wings.
"Any time now Clock!" Ethelwulf yelled. "Literally!" He flew back at Dan, a large paw hitting the ghost in the chest. Danny flew up slightly, holding his side, but watched Ethelwulf and Dan exchange attacks and looked for an opening.
"Time In!" Danny heard Clockwork exclaim. What he didn't notice was his friend double over in pain as time started to move forward.
True to Clockwork's word, Danny saw the natural portal open directly above the fighting Ethelwulf and Dan. I need to get him up there quickly… but how? Ethelwulf's tail hit Dan's shield – creating a series of sparks as the evil ghost was pushed upwards. Dan was so enthralled with Ethelwulf's attacks, he had stopped paying attention to Danny or Clockwork. Seeing the opportunity, Danny flew into a position where a good clean shot would send him flying. Ethelwulf and Dan flew higher still, until Dan was right where the younger ghost wanted. "HEY!" he yelled, getting the attention of both ghosts. "Leave my town ALONE!" Danny unleashed his Ghostly Wail for the second time, watching as Ethelwulf quickly darted out of the way so his older self got the brunt of the attack. Dan yelled in frustration as he was pushed up and through the ghost portal. Danny, utterly spent, fell a few feet and hit the shield as the portal closed. He gasped for air, forcing himself to stay conscious and in ghost form as he tried to process what happened.
As he tried to regain his breath, Danny felt Clockwork and Ethelwulf come around him. "You did good kid," Ethelwulf said, worry evident in his tone.
Danny shook his head. "The shield," he rasped, looking out desperately to the cracked shield around Amity Park. "He'll be back."
Ethelwulf frowned, watching the teen's desperation overpower any sense of reason. "Danny, you've already used too much core energy on that shield. It's a miracle you've made it this far," Ethelwulf told him gently. When Danny didn't answer, Ethelwulf turned to Clockwork for help. "You tell him."
Clockwork floated beside the kneeling boy, putting a withered hand on Danny's shoulder. Danny only barely recognized the ghost's presence. "Do what you need to do," he said quietly. "Just remember that you will not stop him if do this alone."
Danny nodded, accepting the advice. He put a shaky gloved hand on the shield and breathed deeply. His ghostly aura pulsed around him as the shield glowed, the cracks slowly being repaired. He shook in strain, trying to control the energy flowing through him. With the cracks repaired, Danny fell sideways with a groan, Clockwork catching the boy as he fell.
Ethelwulf sighed, moving closer to Danny. The ghost in question was still stubbornly conscious, breathing heavily against Clockwork's chest. "Rest, Halfling," Ethelwulf soothed, yellow eyes searching for any serious injuries. Thankfully, it only looked like he was bruised and exhausted. "Let's get you home."
"Here."
Maddie jumped slightly as a white mug with her husband's face on it settled in front of her at the computer station, the smell of fresh coffee greeted her senses. Glancing back, the ghost researcher turned to face her husband. "Thanks Jack. Is Danny back yet?"
Jack sat in the chair beside her, frowning. "Nope – but I'm sure it's fine Mads. It's not even 9 yet! He's probably on his way back now." Maddie smiled weakly and turned her attention back to the data on the screen, frowning in concern. Sensing her worry, Jack rolled the chair closer to her and glanced at the numbers and charts. "Find anything on Danny's files?"
"Kind of – there are a lot of schematics for weapons that would be good against sonic attacks, heat attacks, cold attacks – everything you can think of. Except…" Maddie trailed off, frowning as she mused her theory over in her head one more time. "Except, these files don't look like they're solely on this evil Phantom…"
Jack's eyes widened as he caught on. "They're files on if our Danny goes dark," he finished, looking over the data with new understanding. Jack let out a low whistle as he watched Maddie scroll through a list of powers his son currently held and a possible counter for each one. "He's really worried about this, huh?"
Maddie nodded, frowning as she looked down at her notes. "The only problem is that our tech reacts to Danny's ecto-signature in some way. There's nothing in these files saying that they have different ecto-signatures. So how do we create weapons to defeat this ghost if they also target Danny? Or a ghost shield?" She rubbed her head in her hands. "How can we help him if he believes the only way how is to hurt him?"
Jack rubbed his wife's back soothingly. "First of all, Danny doesn't think we're going to hurt him," Jack reassured confidently. "He wouldn't have given us this file if there wasn't a threat. Second, the ghost we're up against is half Danny – or a version of him at any rate. Even if he's worried about turning evil, he's probably the best one to judge what will work against that ghost." Jack paused for a second, taking in everything he just said. "Mads, that's it! The Ecto-Signature!"
Maddie turned to her husband in confusion, before her eyes lit up in understanding. "He's half of Danny! Meaning that the other half will affect his ecto-signature! All we have to do is find out which ghost is the other half!" She flipped through her notes quickly. "Danny said Dan had some fire attacks, which must be what he's referring to here." She pointed at the screen under heat attacks. She frowned as she noticed a small acronym. "What does 'CH' mean?"
"It could be anything really. Unit of measure for ecto-energy? Core Heat perhaps? Personally, I think of cheese but maybe I'm just hungry."
Maddie tensed, a memory of Danny calling Vlad a 'Cheesehead' running across her mind. Making a note to inquire later, she relaxed slightly and nodded to her husband. "Let's just ask Danny, hmm?" she said, picking up the coffee and taking a sip. Looking at the clock, she frowned slightly as she noticed the time. 9:20. "Jack, he should be back by now."
Jack opened his mouth to respond but was cut off. Both hunters jumped as the ghost alarm went off, the shrill beeping intensifying the worry that both parents shared. They jumped into action; Jack typed in the password to disable the alarm as Maddie pulled up the map of the town. "There's a huge spike of ecto-energy above the city!" she cried.
Jack swallowed nervously as he looked at the map. There were 2 dots on the screen, both with high ecto-energy levels, clashing on screen. He stared as both dot collided with each other and rebounded away. "How long?"
"Looks like thirty minutes – give or take." Maddie reached for her cellphone and grimaced as she saw the twenty missed calls between Jazz, Sam and Tucker. Jack didn't miss the look of dread on her face.
"We need –" Jack started before the entire lab was coated with a soft blue light. Both Fentons froze as time halted. The analog clock on the wall continued moving, as if nothing was wrong. The ticking clock continued until it read 9:40 before the blue light washed over them again, resuming. "To go!" Jack finished. As both hunters ran to acquire weapons, the computer let out another shrill beep.
Maddie, frowning in worry, ran over to the screen. "What on earth…" she said, looking at the screen. Not even ten seconds ago, there were two ecto-entities on the screen; now there were four. "Jack!" she called. Maddie watch as three of the dots ganged up on the last one. "Jack, the TV. We need eyes now!"
Sensing her worry, Jack fumbled with the remote and turned the T.V. on. Sure enough, there was coverage of the ghost attack from ground level, but no sight of Danny Phantom. As she combed through the grainy footage, she managed to make out an animal looking ghost with black wings fighting with a larger looking ghost with blue skin and flaming hair. "Where's-" she started worriedly, before the audio crackled and a loud wailing blasted through the speaker of the T.V. Maddie let out a sigh of relief as Danny came into the frame, attacking with his Ghostly Wail. Danny attacked, pushing the enemy up and out of sight. As the larger ghost disappeared, she was brought out of her stupor as Danny fell, hitting the shield hard. "Danny," she whispered worriedly.
"That looks like Ethelwulf," Jack said, pointing to the animal ghost. He then moved his finger to the last small figure on frame, who was dressed in purple. "Who's that?"
Maddie shook her head. "Change in plans, first aid kit. And where did we put the E-Scanner?" As they gathered supplies, Maddie looked back at the T.V. screen again and gasped as the trio of ghosts disappeared. "Where'd they-"
A bright light cut Maddie off as both Fentons shielded their eyes. When the light subsided, they saw Ethelwulf's large wings opening to reveal the ghost in purple holding their son. Not giving anyone time to readjust, Ethelwulf shifted forms to stand on two legs, getting rid on his wings and tail and moved directly to the Fentons. "He's okay," the ghost assured the worried parents. "With some patching up and a little bit of rest, he should be fine."
Both parents stared at the three ghosts as they processed what just happened. Maddie was the first to recover, eyes honing in on Danny's limp form. "Someone care to tell me what the hell is going on here?" she asked angrily. She glared at the quiet ghost currently holding her son. "And who the hell are you!?"
The ghost was unfazed by her anger and just floated closer to the ground. He nodded at Jack, silently beckoning him closer. Jack hesitated for a second before glancing at Danny and hurried forward. He took his son his arms as Danny finally reverted forms, unable to hold out any longer. Maddie's anger disappeared as Danny relaxed into his father's hold, unconscious. "My name is Clockwork," he finally replied serenely. Both Fentons turned to each other in recognition of the name. "As for your second question, that is a rather long story."
Going Angst Week
Day One: Birth/ Creation
Shawn couldn’t imagine a day without his friend Johnny. As much as people joked that the skinny teen had the worst luck, he considered himself lucky to know him.
Countless times in and out of school, Johnny would pull Shawn out of trouble, and Shawn would do the same in return. It was like a silent agreement. Neither would ever dream of leaving the other behind. Shawn might as well consider himself Johnny’s brother for how often they hung around each other.
And then junior year of high school started.
Shawn caught Johnny staring toward one girl. From rumors, he heard her name was Katheryn, but she just called herself Kitty. She looked about as pretty as any other girl his age, but Shawn knew that this one was the one Johnny wanted.
Today they were sitting on some benches, and right across the quad Shawn already spotted Kitty among her friend group, but so did Johnny.
“Earth to John,” He spoke, waving his hand in front of his friend’s face, which wasn’t easy when Shawn was around 5’2” compared to his buddy who was 6’1”.
The teen gave a yelp. “Shawn, what was that for?”
“I saw you lookin’ at her,” Shawn replied.
“What? Johnny spoke, already rubbing his hair nervously. “Looking at who? I’m not looking at anyone.”
Shawn gave him a knowing look.
Johnny groaned. “Okay, so maybe I was. What’s it to you?”
“You should ask her out,” Shawn spoke, giving a smile.
“Wait what, are you crazy?” Johnny said. “I bet she already has a line for whoever wants to take her on a date.”
“Well then if you won’t, I’ll do it for you,” Shawn spoke, already getting off the bench.
That made Johnny frantic. “You’re not into her, are you?”
“Nah relax, haven’t found anyone yet, not that I’m interested. Let’s just see how it goes.”
Shawn took his time to walk over. One of Kitty’s friends nudged her shoulder, and the girls stopped talking right after.
“You’re Kitty right?” He asked, completely chill.
“Yeah, why are you askin’?” Kitty spoke.
“My pal Johnny’s wonderin’ if you’d want to go out with him.”
Kitty looked behind him trying to spot Shawn’s friend. “You mean the guy in the coat comin’ right behind you?”
Shawn chuckled as he heard some shoes streaking to a stop. “That’s him.”
After a moment, Johnny came up from behind.
“H-He didn’t say anything rude to you, right?” Johnny asked,
“Nah, he seems like an honest guy,” Kitty spoke. She looked him in the eyes. “Hmm, you look pretty cute.”
“You’re practically a gem,” Johnny blurted out, his blush very visible.
Kitty paused before giving a laugh, blushing lightly.
“Now I’ve seen everything,” She spoke, putting a curl of hair behind her ear. “You’re lucky today, Johnny 13. I don’t think I’ve seen anything like you. You’ve got yourself a date.”
Johnny’s mouth dropped open before Shawn gently nudged him to close it. “Really?!”
“Yeah, we can talk where, if your friend doesn't mind,” Kitty gave a nod to Shawn.
“Nah, Johnny’s my best friend,” Shawn scoffed, waving away the compliment. “You two talk things out right now, I’ll be waitin’.”
And from there, they became three. Kitty was fine with letting Shawn tag along on some dates since he was respectable when she and Johnny wanted some alone time. Other times he even helped them dodge or deal with any trouble.
Yet Johnny was still his friend true and through, risking his skin for Shawn whenever things got heated. The trio thought it wouldn’t end.
Until the cops called and told him Johnny was gone.
Dead gone.
Shawn’s throat was dry during the funeral. It was the worst thing that could’ve happened. Johnny and Kitty were out on a joy ride on a motorcycle, but some bozo cut their lives short.
Now he was alone.
A shadow without someone to follow, to laugh along, to lean on their shoulder as they knew he would’ve done the same.
He didn’t remember much of the graduation except the two empty chairs at the front of the students, where two lovers should’ve been locking arms, resting on each other’s shoulders, smiling, kissing.
Shawn thought about them every day. Some days were easy to smile out, but other days the shadows of the city were darker than usual.
He was so deep in his thoughts that he didn’t realize he was by a construction site, or that one of the workers was yelling at him to move out of the way.
He didn’t get the chance to look up either.
He was in a lot of pain.
He couldn’t remember how he got to the hospital. Or who the doctors were telling him were his family members.
Was that a bad thing? He didn’t know if it was.
He didn’t remember the names of anyone they found on his wallet. He didn’t recognize Shawn, or whoever they were showing a picture of.
The pain in his head hurt so much.
He felt everything going dark.
Johnny, Kitty. As soon as those names were brought, he felt happy. He managed to remember them in his mind. Johnny’s stutters, Kitty’s voice.
A person tried calling for his attention. He felt everything getting muted from the roar of blood in his ears. It was getting so hard to focus on anything except those two names.
He thought of a picture of three people. Two were undoubtedly Johnny and Kitty. But who was the one in the middle?
He heard something beep from some sort of machine. Even the sound of an ambulance grew dim, as well as the room…
Johnny didn’t know what to make of the ghost he found in his garage. Sure there were certainly a lot of strange ghosts, but this one took the cake.
It looked like sheet cloth but black, staring at him with bright neon green eyes. Yet unlike the regular blob ghosts that Johnny easily scared away, this ghost was larger and didn’t want to leave nor attack him.
“Do you mind if you get a bit further a-away from my cycle?” Johnny asked the ghost.
The cloth blinked before crawling away from the seat of the motorcycle and onto the floor. It paused before going further away near a few paint buckets.
Satisfied, Johnny put down the broom and began getting down some cleaning equipment.
“So... Soorryyyy,” He heard.
Johnny whipped around. He didn’t think the ghost could talk. It.. no, he was gazing at him with saddened eyes.
“You from a-around here?” Johnny asked. The ghost paused, his brows lowered in thought before shaking his head.
“A new ghost then,” Johnny muttered, rubbing his chin. “Do you got a name?”
The ghost was quiet, before attempting to speak.
“Sha… Shaaaa…” He seemed to be struggling to piece together his name. The ghost’s voice wavered as he attempted again with no luck.
Johnny wasn’t one to give many ghosts pity. After all, it took a lot of what he would call luck for him and Kitty to claim this house as their ghost lair in the Zone.
But he remembered someone else who seemed a bit like the ghost in front of him.
Johnny remembered spotting the kid under the lunch benches when they were little, clearly wanting to make friends, but had some trouble speaking.
“You got a name?” He asked the kid.
The kid looked at him with big eyes that looked like he had been crying for some time.
“Sha… Shaa… Shaaaa...” He stuttered.
“You don’t know how to say it?” Johnny asked, ducking under the bench. It was hot anyways, and he didn’t mind the dirt at the bottom.
The kid shook his head.
“Do you know how to spell it?”
The kid paused before he began to poke the dirt with his index finger. The letters were shaky, but Johnny made out the word: Shawn.
“Maybe I could h-help you learn them,” Johnny figured, leaning towards the ground to write something out. “Try saying my name.”
Shawn looked at the name on the ground before scrunching his face.
“J… Jo…”
“Say it with me,” Johnny encouraged the kid. “John.”
“John?”
“Now say ‘ny’.”
“Ny.”
“Now say it together.”
“Joooohny?” Shawn guessed.
“Y-Yeah, you did it!” Johnny cheered, giving a smile, one of his front teeth missing.
Shawn’s eyes opened wide in surprise before giving a huge smile in return.
Johnny hadn’t seen Shawn in the Ghost Zone, and hoped he wouldn’t come here until it was his time. He figured he was far from Amity Park, and felt guilty for not being able to find his friend.
But this ghost reminded him of his buddy.
“Do you… know how to spell your name?” Johnny gently asked.
The ghost shook his head, tears starting to fill his eyes.
“Hey, hey, don’t cry,” Johnny comforted the ghost, trying to hush him. “Why don’t I give you a name?”
The ghost looked up and gave a nod.
“Let’s see… you’ve said Sha… how about Shadow?”
The ghost’s eyes seemed to sparkle as he heard the name.
Part 4 of That Thing I’ve Been Writing.  This one is VERY MUCH a first draft.  Like, I know I’ve been saying that a lot, but this shit needs EDITING.  I just have no self control and I wanted to share a little of what I’m working on. I hope you like the sneak peek! Part 1  Part 2  Part 3  ~~
They turn fifteen.
 Many things have changed in the few months they’ve been together. It’s easier now, somehow, in a way it wasn’t at the beginning.
They don’t blush as much anymore, and they hold hands readily and easily.  They kiss each other’s cheeks before they leave a room.  Luz is overwhelmingly, uncontrollably happy.
However. Luz has noticed something, lately.  Something that perplexes and confuses her.
Here’s the deal: Luz really wants to kiss her girlfriend.
It takes her days of getting distracted by Amity’s lips to come to this realization, and when she does, she’s sort of embarrassed.  She knows she has no reason to be.  This is her girlfriend, and girlfriends kiss, right? That’s normal!
But she’s never actually kissed anyone before, and this is Amity, and it’s been months of dating now and how in the world is she supposed to go about this? Does she ask? Does she just lean in? Does she send her a letter that says “Will you kiss me? Check y/n boxes below”?????
She agonizes over this for days, barely paying attention to the planning for their joint birthday party.
She still hasn’t decided what to do when, before she knows it, it’s time for the party.   Edric and Emira show up with a tub of apple blood, hiding it behind their backs until they realize that Eda has not only already supplied the party with enough to knock out a slitherbeast, but also pregamed so much herself that she is well and truly gone.
The twins give each other a sly grin, leave Eda knocked out on the couch, and run inside.  Before Luz knows what’s happening, Emira is picking her up while Edric grabs Amity and gives her a noogie.  “Happy birthday baby sisters,” Emira croons, while the girls struggle to get free.  “Yeah,” Edric says, messing up Amity’s hair.  “Thanks for being born in the same month so we don’t have to go to two parties.”
Luz laughs, a little embarrassed at being called the twins’ baby sister.  “Thanks, guys,” she says, breaking free of Emira’s hold.  She manages to rescue Amity from Edric’s arms, and the two of them sprint away before they can be grabbed again, the twins’ laughter following them all the way to the door.
“Sorry about that,” Amity says, rolling her eyes.  “You know how they are.”
“Uh huh,” Luz gulps, distracted by the way Amity’s hair is curling a little over her ears.  “I know how it is.”
Luckily, Willow and Gus choose that moment to walk inside, and Luz has an ample distraction.  “My friends!” She yells, draping her arms around their necks.  “Welcome!  Also!”  She lowers her voice.  “Did you know that I love you?”
Willow laughs.   “We know that, Luz.  Wanna know a secret?” She winks.  “We love you, too.”
“Happy birthday,”  Gus adds, hugging Luz, and then Amity.  “You’re super old now.”
“I know!” Luz says.  “I’m finally at the age that Taylor Swift always prophesied about!”
Gus nods wisely.  “I know about Taylor Swift.  She’s a powerful warlock from your realm, is she not?”
“She is,” Luz agrees.
“Happy birthday, Amity.”  Willow hesitates, and then opens her arms.  Amity’s face breaks into a huge smile as she accepts Willow’s hug.  “Thanks,” she says.  “I’m glad you’re here.”
“Me too.”
Luz is trying not to get emotional, but having so much love surrounding her is making her want to cry.  Plus, seeing Willow and Amity get along so well makes her feel warm and fuzzy inside.
“Are you okay?” Amity whispers in her ear, and Luz jumps.  “Y-yeah, I’m totally fine,” she says, trying to keep her stuttering to a minimum.
“Are you sure? You’ve been acting a little weird for awhile now, and you kind of look like you want to cry.”
Ah, man.  Amity wasn’t supposed to notice that she’s been acting differently.  But at least this question she has an answer for.  “I’m just really happy,” she says truthfully, and Amity smiles.  “Me too,” she says.  “Happy birthday, Luz.”
As Amity walks away to talk to Willow, Luz tries not to stare after her.
She fails.
Amity looks like a goddess tonight.  She always looks good, okay, but something about tonight, under the glow of the fairy lights, surrounded by her friends and family, makes her shine undeniable.  Luz cannot comprehend how everyone isn’t staring at Amity right now.
She wants to kiss her, right now, in front of everyone, but she feels like Amity might not appreciate that, and besides, Viney is walking in right now and for some reason Emira just spilled her drink all over the floor, and there are more important things to focus on, right?
(What could be more important than kissing Amity?)
She shakes her head.  Not now, Luz.  Not now.
Maybe tonight just isn’t the night, either.
She sighs, but then shakes herself out of it.  This is a party, and she’s going to enjoy it.
~
She doesn’t get to hang out with Amity much that night.
Her friends all want her attention, and there’s a worrying moment where Eda starts growing some feathers on her arms, but the crisis is averted quickly.  She and King haul Eda safely into her nest, and Luz returns to the party, determined to at least hold Amity’s hand.
But Willow and Gus have started a dance off against Jerbo and Barkus, and there’s no way Luz is going to miss being a part of that.  She sneaks a peek at Amity, who is standing off to the side with her drink, looking content.  They lock eyes for a second and Luz’s breath is taken away.
This is ridiculous.
They’ve been dating for months.  This should not still be happening.
But, god, Amity is just so cool, resting an arm nonchalantly on the table, and Luz wants to run over there and-
“Luz, it’s your turn!!!!!” Gus screams in her ear, and the moment is gone again.
It’s already midnight when she feels a tap on her shoulder.  “Amity!” she yells, and tackles her girlfriend into a hug.  “I haven’t seen you all night!”
“Woah,” Amity says, trying not to fall over.  “I know, that’s why I’m here.  Could I borrow you for a second?
Luz’s stomach flips itself over for absolutely no reason.
“Uh, sure, yeah, what’s up?”
“I just wanna show you something.”
Amity grabs her hand and leads her up the stairs, passing door after door until they reach the one that leads to the roof.
“Why are we-”
“Shhh,” Amity says.  “Just come on!”
Amity doesn’t let go of her hand when they reach the roof.  “Close your eyes,” she instructs.
“Um, Amity,” Luz says.  “We’re like, a lot of feet off the ground.”
“Trust me,” Amity insists, and god help her but Luz does, so she complies.  Amity’s palm is warm in hers as she tugs her over a few feet until finally, she says “open them”.
“What are we-”  Luz falters.  Because there, on the roof, is an honest to god picnic.  Somehow Amity has hauled up a blanket and a basket, and it’s just so cute and cliche that Luz can’t stop the smile taking over her face.
“I figured we wouldn’t have time to talk tonight,” Amity says.  “And...well...I missed you, so-”  she gestures to the picnic.
“This is the cutest thing I’ve ever seen,” Luz says, sitting down on one side of the basket.  “I kept wanting to talk to you all night, but there was always something happening!”
“You’re popular,” Amity says simply, and Luz starts laughing before she realizes Amity is being totally serious.
“Anyway,” Amity says.  “I made you something.”
Luz is really, really hoping it’s not a fairy pie, but instead, Amity pulls out a messy chocolate cupcake.  “Happy birthday,” she says, and Luz practically swoons.
They share the cupcake, digging into it with messy hands and taking turns pointing out different stars.
“In my world, constellations are symbols for things,” Luz says.
“They are here, too!  For example, that’s the giraffe constellation.  It symbolizes death and destruction.  And that over there is the Titan constellation. It also symbolizes death and destruction!”
“Romantic,” Luz jokes.
“I know, right?” Amity responds, sounding completely serious.  Luz has to stifle the urge to laugh.  She sneaks a peek at Amity and, oh, wow.  Her face is glowing in the moonlight.  She looks bright and bubbly and all the things she really is when her guard isn’t up.  Her eyes are shining and Luz could swear she’s never seen anything more beautiful in her fifteen years of life.
She needs to do this now.  There’s no better time, and even if there was, she simply can’t stop herself.  The words just fall from her mouth like leaves from a tree, but a lot more quickly and nervously.
“Can I kiss you?”
Amity stops mid-sentence, mouth still hanging open and finger pointing at the sky.  She blinks.  “What did you say?”
“I-”  Luz is losing her nerve really quickly, but before it’s gone completely she gathers up the rest of her courage and says “I really want to kiss you.  Can I?”
“You...you want to kiss me?”  Amity’s voice is full of wonder and her face is bright red.
“Wait, why do you sound surprised? You’re my girlfriend, of course I want to kiss you!” Luz scrambles onto her knees and searches Amity’s face.
“It’s just...it’s been so long, and it never happened, so I kind of thought maybe you didn’t want to or you were uncomfortable or whatever, which would be totally fine, by the way-”
“Oh my gosh we’re both so stupid,” Luz smacks a hand to her face.  “I never kissed you because I thought you didn’t want to kiss me!”
“How could I not want to kiss you! Have you seen yourself????”
Amity’s hands are covering her eyes.  She’s clearly embarrassed at having admitted that.
Luz takes a deep breath and gently pries Amity’s hands away from her face.  Amity’s eyes instantly find Luz’s, and there’s a determination there that wasn’t there before.  They both feel it, this thing happening between them, different from what they’ve been feeling for the past few months.  It feels like every moment of their relationship has been leading up to this moment.
“Can I-”  Luz starts, but is interrupted by Amity’s very enthusiastic “Yes!!!!”
Luz bites her lip, takes a deep breath, and leans in.
She closes her eyes.
The kiss feels a little like the first time she did magic, but light glyphs have nothing on this.  The butterflies in her stomach have migrated to her chest, and they’re fluttering hard enough to rival her heartbeat.
She can’t believe this is happening.
Their noses bump together uncomfortably, but she doesn’t care, she doesn’t care, because this is her first kiss and it’s with Amity and she’s flying flying flying.
They pull apart, but not too far.
“Wow,” Amity whispers, and Luz nods.  “Yeah,” she says.  “Wow.”
“How have we not been doing that the whole time?”
“I don’t know,” Luz says. “But I’m more than happy to make up for lost time.”
She leans in again.
Over-Emotional: Danny Phantom Oneshot.
Original idea by @amabsis on their post right here!!
[Originally written on a reblog of the prompt but it went all screwy and left an incomplete version so I made it it's own post and I've made a few grammar and spelling edits. Sorry for any confusion!!]
(This is the first thing I've ever written for the DP Phandom so I apologize if it's a little OOC)
⚠️(TW: DESCRIPTIONS OF A PANIC ATTACK AND GORE!!!!!)⚠️
  Danny drifted through the skies of Amity Park, following the streets which were slick with recent rain. The stars twinkled merrily above and the beams from the street lights seemed to buzz through the comforting, crisp air. Not a sound disrupted the mellow atmosphere and ghosts had appeared to leave tonight alone and retired to their lairs. A soothing night such as this would have been Danny's favorite; it would have been a much needed break from his overly stressful life.
  Yet Danny couldn't shake off the creeping apprehension even as he twisted in and out of alleyways back into the lit roads.
  His parents had been working tirelessly  on a project that they wouldn't tell him and Jazz about. Jack, their father, would always jump at the chance to describe what he was doing and couldn't keep his antics quiet for long. Maddie's, their mother, eyes would have brightened as she recounted the innovate idea she had conjured and the necessary calculations she could toy around with. These facts coupled with Jazz and Danny casually inquiring about their latest project would make them incredibly ecstatic.
  But whenever the two had asked about it, put off by the unusual quiet of the parents, had only been given an amused smile and an occasional wink.
  Tonight, before Danny's patrol and during dinner, Jazz had managed to weasel some information out of them. Though, it left more questions than answers.
  "So, you guys have been in the lab a lot recently," Jazz said conversationally. "Working on some new ghost stuff? It seems important if you're spending most of the day down there."
  Maddie had given her a deliberate look like someone who'd finally decided to take a second cookie.
  "It's our greatest invention yet," she said lowly and excitedly. "I think your dad and I have found the solution to our little ghost problem."
  The siblings gulped and tried to suppress their shudders.
  "It's not going to hurt them is it? Phantom and the other ghosts." Jazz's voice was even and didn't show a hint of a tone shift.
  "Surprisingly, no. No harm will be dealt to them. It's not like they can feel anyway. That's exactly the problem," Jack chimed excitedly before going back to his ectoplasm contaminated lasagna.
  "Besides, we wouldn't want to hurt the object of our daughter's affection.  We all know about your crush on Phantom," Maddie teased but then added with a small frown. "Though it's not healthy to have a crush on ghosts at all."
 Jazz gave an aggressive gagging noise and Danny was torn between hysterical laughter and a gag of his own. Dinner resumed as normal —well, as normal as you could get being a Fenton— and Danny took note of the fact his parents had refused to say anymore.
  Danny was busy going over and dissecting the conversation and lax in his attention to his surroundings by the inactivity that he didn't notice the two shadow-cloaked figures tailing him. The taller one with a broader build was holding an intimidating gun, that looked like it was straight out of an eighties sci-fi movie, on his back.
  Maybe I should head back, Danny thought to himself. I have so much homework due and a test tomorrow. A pop quiz in calculus and a lab in science. I have to meet Nathan at my study hall period and at lunch. Liz needs my help…
  On and on the list went as Danny subtlety started flying home. Just thinking of things that needed done was making him more anxious and tired.
  "Phantom, we'll have you now," Jack cried, his voice echoing in the hollow streets.
  Danny turned around, slightly aggravated when he was struck by a violet beam and plummeted, crashing to the sidewalk.
  "Jack! I told you to wait," Maddie chastised as they walked over to Danny who had barely sat up.
  His head swam and Maddie and Jack looked like the reflections of a carnival fun house mirror. Though his vision corrected itself quickly.
  "I think you might have given him a concussion. But that doesn't make sense, ghosts don't have brains," Maddie said, slightly confused. She reached out to gingerly place her fingertips on Danny's temple and he flinched.
  "Don't touch me!!" Danny had yelled louder then he meant to and his voice came out with an extra echo; like he had been about to use his ghostly wail. The three stilled before Danny began crawling backwards, keeping his eyes on Jack and Maddie at all times.
  "I don't wanna hurt you," Danny whimpered and tears sprang to eyes like a line of men ready to battle. Why the hell was he crying!? He didn't cry easy, at least not of late, and he'd been in these situations and worse without crying so why was he breaking down now??
  Maddie looked at him with wide eyes and her hand, which had still been suspended in shock, dropped to her belt and Danny panicked.
  "Don't hurt me!" Danny tried to pick himself up to fly, to get the hell out of dodge but when he went to stand his vision and black an —god why were his veins burning with adrenaline???
  Danny's chest was caving, that was the only explanation as his ribs seized and threatened to crush his lungs. His heart had left its place and sprinted from the back of his throat down to right beneath his collarbone before starting all over again. Has his hands always been this sweaty??? Tremors wracked through his limbs —he couldn't deal with this now!! He needed to finish his Hamlet essay, and review his history notes, and hadn't Liz asked him to buy popsicle sticks for their art project??? That's what he had forgotten!! He can't think of this now!! Maddie and Jack could easily catch him now —but oh, God was he screwed when —if— when he went to school the next day.
  "Phantom, you're having a panic attack," Maddie said calmly.
  "No, shit there, Sherlock." Danny bit his bottom lip to prevent another scathing comment from escaping. Usually he had better control of his mouth believe it or not. He put his head between his knees, closing his eyes and trying to focus on, well, nothing. He felt tears slip from his eyes and barely stopped himself from screaming.
  "You know what a panic attack is?" Jack titled his head as he scanned over his shaking form.
  "Jack did you put the settings up too high while we were following him?"
  "Of course not! I was very careful not to bounce anything out of place. You've Done the math, four times, it should be perfectly calibrated." Jack twisted the purple and silver metallic gun in his hands, giving it a thorough look over.
  "What the fuck are you two talking about!!" The scientists' head whipped back to see Danny's eyes glowing a tad brighter than before and his mouth transfixed into a snarl. Maddie slid a careful hand to her holster.
  "Our newest invention. Ghosts, well most of them, are just whispers of feelings that people once had. They can't actually feel and so they do bad things or... or they mimic human behaviors really well to make it seem like they do, like they're human." Maddie's voice trailed off at the end as if seeing if he would explode.
  Danny felt that normally he would have but he started to hyperventilate. How was he going to reverse it??? Was there even a way to do so or did they not include a reverse button by mistake (on purpose?) like they had mistakenly put the 'on' button inside the portal??
  "We're going to take you to the lab. Check your... concussion and to stabilize your mood. Run a few tests..."
Ohgodohgodohgodohgodohgodoh—
   They would strap him down and cut and lay his chest open like a butterfly steak and their hungry eyes would roam over him and their hands would devour him by pulling at his nerve endings and removing his organs and Danny would scream until his voice was hoarse and then some like a helpless lamb. Would he bleed blood or ectoplasm when they drained him? Would they take turns as he bleed out?? Or would they flow out together like some sort of demented, holiday dinner?? Or—
  "Phantom! You need to calm down." Maddie was at his side (when had she gotten there?) and was squeezing his hand. Danny briefly noted her eyes were filled with worry as her goggles hung at her neck. "Just breathe with me okay, please."
  "Breathe with her, buddy" Jack, who sat on the other side of Danny, whispered as he gently rubbed circles on the boy's lower back. "It's gonna be okay. We aren't going to hurt you."
  Danny wanted to say a smart aleck remark about them not having the same sentiment five minutes ago but instead focused on his breathing. He faced his head skyward and tried to count the stars. Nothing but him and the stars, no home— just the stars.
  Danny was reminded of the time he went stargazing with the rest of his family. A rare occasion as Maddie and Jack seemed to always be working. They had smiled so big at him as he pointed out constellations, awestruck. Jazz had nodded along as she listened attentively with a smile of her own. The night hadn't been more clear in months and more stars then usually were out. The picnic blanket they laid on was soft and him and Jazz had rested in between their parents and God they had been so happy then—
  Danny let out an involuntary sob. The melancholy seemed to come from the depths of his chest but at least it seemed to push out the panic.
  "Phantom," Maddie asked as she huddled closer to him. Phantom, not Danny. It hadn't really bothered him before; they didn't know it was him so why would they call him by his name?
  But it still made him cry harder. He wanted to tell them. He wanted to so, so bad.
  Jazz had urged him to tell them. But Danny had always been afraid. Scared that they wouldn't want him anymore.
  Now the sadness had overwhelmed the fear and the panic. He felt so isolated even when his parents were next to him, right there, trying to coax him into being calm. He had to tell them. He had to do it now because he wouldn't be this impulsive again.
  He felt the white rings gloss over him and heard Jack yell out "Phantom". When it was over he heard them gasp.
  "D-Danny," Maddie choked out.
   "I'm so sorry," Danny said through his tears. He chanted it over and over again as his parents reassured him that he had nothing to be sorry for and that they should apologize.
  The three sat there for quite some time, huddled close and crying together.
  Soon they would head home and take care of Danny's quickly healing concussion and reverse the effects of the gun. They would ask questions tomorrow after school but, for now, they tucked him into bed, something they hadn't done since he was eleven, and gave him their good night kisses on his temple before creeping to their room unaware of Jazz watching them from her bedroom door. She would text Sam and Tucker an explanation and ask them to give Danny the answers to the homework in the morning. She slipped into bed and fell asleep.
  The streets were barely slick with rain anymore. The stars twinkled merrily and the street lights buzzed. The crisp, cool air was calm and mellow. The night soothing and the Fentons were a family once again.
This entire fic was inspired by a conversation I had on Tumblr
A Leap in the Dark
The old cart creaked and rocked as it slowly moved towards its destination. With the exception of the occasional instruction to the donkeys from the wagoner, the only sounds from its passengers were whispered prayers and weeping.
Daniel (Danny to friends) Fenton closed his eyes as he waited for the inevitable. No amount of crying or pleading would save him now, and he’d come to terms with it. Or at least that’s what he told himself.
Several days prior, town guards stormed his home and pulled him into the streets. He demanded an explanation only to be punched in mouth and knocked to the ground. Some of the guards grabbed him and forced him into a kneeling position as another took out a scroll.
“On behalf of his majesty, we the guards of Amity Park arrest Daniel Fenton, son of Jack Fenton, on suspicion of practicing black magic and soliciting with the devil.”
He tried to argue with them. The charges were insane. Sure, his parents liked to experiment with alchemy which often seemed like magic, but he’d done his best to keep his nose to the ground once he moved out of their home. What did he do to get someone so upset with him that they falsely accused him?
His words fell short as someone hit him in the neck.
The next thing he knew, water fell on him, jolting him awake. Glancing around, he found himself in a cell. Trying to stand, he found shackles binding his arms and legs. In front of him, a guard with an empty bucket sneered.
Soon after, he found himself brought before the hallmote. A representative of the town stood before those gathered and explained what the accusations against him were. The other villagers yelled and hissed. The representative waited until they calmed to provide the evidence which involved reports of him meeting with a dark someone in the middle of the night at the outskirts of town.
Danny jolted as he realized someone saw him meeting up with Samantha. She and her family were fairly new to the area and affluent. Her parents didn’t approve of him, and there was an issue of different religious backgrounds.
When he had a chance to speak, Danny explained just that. “I just wanted to spend time with my dear friend without worrying about the judgement of others,” he pleaded to them.
The crowd’s anger softened some. Another rose and asked if any further evidence could be provided. Hope welled within Danny. If no further false evidence existed against him, he might be able to walk away from this relatively unharmed.
The crowd shifted as they waited for someone to speak. When no one did, Danny sighed in relief. He’d be able to go home and live his life. He might have to let Samantha know they would need to move their meeting times to make it safer for both of them, but if that was the only thing he needed to do, he could live with that.
The sound of walking broke the silence. Everyone turned to see Vladimir Masters, another recent addition to the town slowly walk into the room. Danny didn’t know what to make of the man. He had more influence due to his merchant money then the local lord which caused some tensions between them. However, he’d managed to charm most of the villagers and the church with his donations and public improvements. He also seemed to have an unhealthy interest in his parents, particularly his mother.
“Ladies and gentlemen of this fair town, I bring you one final piece of evidence,” he announced as he opened his cloak to produce a large leather-bound book. He waited for the whispers to stop before he continued. “When rumors first started, I could scarcely believe the son of my two dear friends could possibly be involved in such things. So, I decided to follow him to one of his supposed meetings with the Dark One.”
Again, he paused for effect. “I watched as young Daniel meet with a strange man who appeared on a dark mist. Afraid for my life, I didn’t dare approach and instead hide behind a nearby tree. While I couldn’t hear their words, I did see the stranger hand the boy a book before disappearing back into the mist. The boy glanced through it before heading further outside of town.”
“Concerned, I followed at a safe distance. He eventually came to the hang man’s tree that grows at the crossroads and buried it before heading back to town. I waited until I believed he would no longer be able to detect my presence and dug up the book. Lo and behold, I found a tome written in a language I could not read. Images of death and sacrifice littered its pages. Horrified, I returned to town with it in my possession to report it to both the guards and the Church.”
“Are you so enraged that you can’t have my mother that you need to frame me?” Danny spat at the man. “Everyone knows the crossroads are dangerous at night. I have no desire to risk encountering the vengeful and dark spirits that make such a place a home. Besides, don’t we all know the Dark One is more likely to appear at the crossroads? Why would I go there after supposedly meeting with Him?”
Masters just gave him a sickly-sweet smile. “How is a simple man like me supposed to understand the logic of such evil? Besides, you have not denied ownership of this book.”
The rest of the crowd erupted. Even through the symphony of voices, he could tell many of them cursed and condemned him. His heart sang as the shouts grew louder. Everyone knew the if the crowd believed your guilt, your fate was sealed. He would be handed over to the Church. If he was lucky, their interrogation techniques would kill him before he would be hanged.
After the official ruling was given, officials from the church entered and took him. The last thing he saw before being knocked unconscious was Masters’ smug expression.
He came to in another cell. Sore and aching, he took stock of himself. Well, as best as he could due to the chains. He didn’t seem to be injured which the exception of a few bruises. The pain appeared to be from resting in the uncomfortable position. Shifting, he tried to find a position slightly more comfortable and warmer while he waited for his fate.
An unclear amount of time later, a couple guards came to retrieve him. They removed him from the chains in the cell and placed more compact shackles on his wrists. Once they were certain he wouldn’t be able to fight back, they led him to a different chamber.
He figured he’d see the vicar and maybe a deacon. Instead, Vlad Masters and some men dressed entirely in black greeted him. “I don’t… I don’t understand…” he stammered.
Masters clapped his hands. “My dear boy, I don’t expect you to, but I should explain, seeing as you are my most recent guest.” He closed the distanced between them after a few strides and began circling him as if he was a predator. “I’m one of those tasked with seeking out who have made unsavory deals with the Dark One.”
An icy chill raised through Danny’s chest. “Are you telling me you’re one of those moon touched under that Hopkins guy?” While Amity Park wasn’t part of any of the large cities, the stories of the sudden upsurge in witch hunts had reached them. Hopkins was the most prolific of the hunters.
“We have crossed paths on occasion,” Masters responded as he continued to circle. “However, we disagree on some methods and share little more than a profession. While Hopkins believes those he prosecutes are truly evil, I do things a little differently.” He closed the gap between them so he could whisper, “You see, I believe people need to fear evil, and to do so, I need to remind them of its existence, whether it exists in that location or not.” For a moment, Danny could have sworn the man’s features warped into something inhuman and evil.
Danny swore as the man moved away. “You… you monster! How many innocent lives have you destroyed?”
Masters just chuckled. “Not enough. My friends, could you please silence the boy? We need to begin our interrogation.”
The men in black quickly gagged him before ripping off his clothes. They gasped and muttered darkly when they spotted the large birthmark on his chest. When they found no other mark of interest, they poke and prodded the mark. They started lightly before beginning to scratch and jab. Eventually, they brought out a small knife and drew his blood.
“He bleeds,” the one muttered. “Surely this is no brand.”
“Perhaps it is an illusion, or his brand is one of those normally unseen,” another replied.
The first one nodded. “If that is case, then we must locate it.” He then made a series of cuts on Danny’s arm. “No evidence here. Please try his back.”
They continued this investigation for some time. Slices were made up and down his arms, his chest and back, legs, and even his face. All of them bled. All of them hurt. Displeased they could find no sorcery mark, they ordered the guards to take him back to the cell.
The cool stone of the dark cell gave him some relief from the stinging cuts. If any one of them refused to heal cleanly, it could mean the death of him. One of his uncles died from a cut that refused to heal, and it was not one he would like to repeat.
After that, the attempts to get some form of acknowledgement or confession from him worsened. The beat him with their firsts and with whips. They burned him with hot iron. They even tried to throw him in the nearby river, but someone interrupted that one. While it wasn’t much, he silently thanked the unknown stranger for the act of kindness.
While he never confessed to any of the false accusations, he did openly curse Masters. That apparently was enough for him and his cronies. The next thing he knew, he was standing in front of the Hallmote again with Masters announcing his confirmed guilt. As a result, he was sentenced to hang.
Danny spent the next few days in the prison’s cell. In a different cell across the hall, a few more condemned prisoners also awaited their fates. He heard they would meet their ends on the same day he would. One of the others tried talking to him, but he decided not to respond. Whatever the man did to deserve his fate, he didn’t need a chance to make it worse by speaking with someone accused of magic.
When the day finally came, the guards came to retrieve them. After their hands were bound behind them, they were led to the wagon to be transported to the location of the gallows.
While some of the other men prayed and wept, he just stared at the sigh. He’d made peace with his awful fate. As much as he wanted to blame the Lord, he couldn’t bring himself to do so. He learned at a young age that while the Lord could work miracles, He couldn’t always interfere with the evil acts of men. At least he knew he’d be welcomed in Paradise.
Once the wagon reached its destination, Danny allowed himself to glance at the crowd. Many of them were celebrating the day. He almost forgot how an execution could excite the townsfolk. Some were even taking bets on how long he and the others would last.
They were marched into a line underneath the scaffold. After the nooses were placed, the executioners gave the other men the chance to say their final words first. Then came Danny’s turn.
He glanced around in hopes someone might be brave enough to save him. No one stepped forward. Instead, most of the faces visible to him appeared to laugh and jeer. Except one, he spotted Sam who appeared to be weeping.
“I hope that you who falsely condemned me are haunted by your choices,” he stated while trying to keep his voice as even as possible. I know what awaits me on the other side, but can you say the same?” The crowd shouted obscenities at him as his words came to a close, but he didn’t care, not anymore.
With him being the last to speak, the executioner and his assistants began the process of covering his head with the characteristic hood and kicking the supports out from under their feet. Even though he was prepared for death, he didn’t want to die. His weight forced the rope to press harder against his neck, making it harder and harder to breathe. He struggled to free his hands in hopes he might be able to save himself, but with each passing moment, he seemed to be drain of more and more of his strength.
His last conscious memory was to hope Sam wouldn’t be targeted for her show of tears.
... … …
Consciousness came back to him slowly. Feeling groggy and stiff, he slowly sat up. As dirt fell away from his body, he realized night had already fallen. Why had he fallen asleep outside? Had he been stargazing again? After the first time, he decided to use his roof for that purpose as it was safer than sleeping outside the village.
“Danny?”
He jolted at the soft voice. Turning, he found Sam kneeling a couple feet away with her friend and servant, Tucker, standing behind her with a lantern that had an unusual intensity. Both of them watched him carefully. If he didn’t know any better, he would have guessed they were apprehensive of him.
“Thanks for waking me up,” he told them cheerfully as he stood and brushed some of the dirt off him. His voice didn’t convey his feelings though as it sounded gravely even to him. He must have slept much longer than he originally figured.
Frowning as he realized his feet were buried in the dirt, he glanced behind him to find what appeared to be a shallow grave. Disturbed soil with an arm of an unnatural bluish color sticking out of it could be found only a few feet away. He’d been buried.
“Danny?” Sam called out again as she slowly stood and approached him. “What’s the last thing you remember before waking up?”
As he thought about the odd question, flashes of his interrogation and the gallows came to the forefront of his mind. Scared at the implications, he rubbed his throat. The skin felt rough as if it had been injured and pain blossomed at his touch. He had been hanged. Falling to his knees, he thanked the Lord for a chance at a second chance at life.
Standing again once he finished, he glanced at his friend. “I’m glad you came when you did. I don’t know what I’d do if I woke up alone out here. Let’s get you home before something bad happens. Only one of us needs to be accused of practicing magic.” He gestured to the lantern. “You didn’t need to break out the good candles just for me. Actually, they might be too bright if we want to sneak back into town.”
Tucker glanced at Sam, who bit her lip. “Danny, they just seem bright to you. The candle in there is the dimmest I could find. We could barely see where we were going while getting here.”
She wouldn’t look directly at him. Instead, she kept her gaze lowered which was unusual for her. That by itself clued him in something was wrong.
“Sam, look at me. What’s going on? You’re not telling me something.”
“My lady, err… I mean Sam,” Tucker floundered as she turned to stare at him. Even though her parents bought him to be her personal servant, Sam refused to have him call her by an honorific. She wanted him to consider her his friend first and foremost. “Should I bring out that mirror?”
“That might be best,” she agreed as he hesitantly handed her the lantern while he dug through the sack attached to his belt. When he finished, he brought out a black stone and traded the lantern back for it.
“I thought that was supposed to be a mirror,” Danny joked as Sam took a moment to polish it.
“It is… It’s just a special type of mirror. Difficult to come across.” She held it up to him. “It’ll be easier to show you.”
Not sure what to expect, Danny stepped forward until he could see his reflection in the stone. However, whatever person it reflected, it certainly wasn’t him. The stone showed a creature with hair of moonlight and eyes of an unearthly green. Its skin reflected as the bluish pallor of death. Dark bruises were visible around the neck.
Cursing, he stumbled away. Grabbing at his hair, he found stuffs of whitish silver. The skin of his hands matched the color of the creature’s skin. “What happened? What did you do to me?”
“I was trying to summon your soul.”
“I get accused and executed for witchcraft, and you turn around and preform it?” Danny gave a hollow laugh. “Was my death not enough of a warning? And what did you plan to do once you summoned me?”
“I wanted to take down Masters, okay?” she snapped at him. Her gaze fell when they locked eyes. “Not all magic is evil. I just wanted to see if there was anything you could provided to help me make sure he didn’t take any more victims before your soul became beyond reach, but something went wrong.”
“What do you mean?”
“I don’t know if I did something wrong.”
“Don’t say that,” Tucker scolded as he placed a hesitant hand on her shoulder. “The crossroads hold strange powers as its one of those places where mortal and immortal can meet.”
Danny gulped at the implication. He forgot criminals tended to be buried at the crossroads. And even though he wasn’t as superstitious as some, he knew such places could be very dangerous. “So… what did the combination of this good magic and the crossroads do to me?”
“That’s something I don’t really know. It seems to have reanimated you, but you are clearly not as you were.” She fell to her knees as tears began to roll down her cheeks. The Sam Manson crying! Sam never cried.
Hesitantly, he crouched down in front of her and used his fingers to lift her chin. Her skin felt so warm to the touch. “While I can’t say I’m comfortable with what happened, I can say it’s not your fault. You had no idea this would be the outcome. You’re also right about Masters… There’s something wrong with him. During the interrogation, I could have sworn I saw the shadow of evil on him.”
Instead of responding, she lurched forward to embrace him. Not sure what else to do, he rubbed her back in a soothing manner.
“Sam, you’re going to get dirty. Neither of us will want to risk the wrath of your parents.” Tucker spoke softly as he tried to gently pull her off of Danny.
She didn’t respond. Instead, she buried her head deeper into Danny’s chest. Not sure what to make of it, Danny shared a look with Tucker. Eventually, she stated, “I can hear your heart beating. Danny, I can hear your heart! You’re alive.” She looked up and gave him the biggest and purest smile he’d even seen.
“But how? How is that possible? I couldn’t have survived the gallows, and my appearance is of some specter… What the?” As he spoke, a blinding light washed over him. As his eyes adjusted, everything seemed much darker. If it wasn’t for the faint light of the lantern and the visible sliver of the moon, he doubted he would have been able to see anything. Wait, he’d been able to see just fine moments ago.
“Tucker, the lantern!”
Seconds later, the lantern appeared within inches of his face. “Whoa! Watch it! Those metal ones hurt when they hit you.”
“Danny,” Sam’s smile somehow grew wider, “you look like you again! “
“Is that why I suddenly can’t see?” When she rolled her eyes, he quickly added, “I mean, that’s wonderful!”
“I doubt it’s that simple,” Tucker noted as he watched the two of them stand. “You touched death, and that always leaves a lasting mark.”
Sam brushed the dirt off her skirt before she began to walk. “That’s true, but for now, we should return to town. We can figure out what happened to Danny as we work on destroying Masters. He can stay at my place for now. It’s big enough we should be able to hide you for a few days.”
Danny acknowledged that would work for now. Even though he didn’t want to put either Sam or Tucker at risk, it would be easier to discuss the future once they rested.
Perhaps he could even stagger back into town in a day or two just to see how the townsfolk would react. Maybe they would consider his return to life as the will of God. Or, if he could take the form of that creature again, perhaps they’d consider him a vengeful wraith. The latter made him smile. Oh, Masters didn’t know what type of revenge he unleashed.
End of story notes. There are a lot:
Firstly, if anyone would like to expand upon this idea, please feel free. I have no desire to extend this. The plot bunny, now that it’s fulfilled its goal, has run off.
Now for the historical notes.
The hallmote is a court held in a Justice’s hall. In medieval England, this is the lord’s manorial court. For the lord, this primarily functioned for fees and land ownership. However, when it came to issues regarding laws, the villagers acted as prosecutor, legal authority, witnesses, and judge. The lord of the area rarely had anything to do with legal issues.
I know that when it comes to magic, usually that fell under the church’s domain, but I wanted to mention a trial first before he was handed over to them as the accusations against Danny were fabricated.
Moon touched is being used as a euphemism for being crazy.
Vicar is a term primarily used in the Anglican church for parson/minister.
Also, witch hunts and trails did still happen in the 1600s in England – they peaked again in the 1640s and the 1650s due to the English Civil War and the rise of the Puritans.
I did review the interrogation techniques of this time period. While they existed beforehand, the specific ones I mentioned were championed by a man named Matthew Hopkins, who flourished as a witch hunger during the English Civil War. He and his colleagues are believed to be responsible for 20% of the total people persecuted for witchcraft in England between the 15th and 18th centuries. His book is also considered a contributing factor in how the trials in Salem, Mass. played out.
The accused often had their bodies searched for marks which were said to be proof of their pact with the Devil. This was often a birth mark, mole, or other skin manifestation. The area was believed to be unable to bleed or feel sensation.
Hanging. The gallows with trapdoors (drops) weren’t invented until the 1760s. So, Danny is experienced it the old-fashioned way where they put the noose on and cover the head with a hood. Depending on the gallows, the condemned might stand on stools or be on the wagon at first. Then those were removed. Unlike modern hangings which were designed to break the neck upon the sharp drop, the original version had people die by suffocation. Most loose consciousness within 5-10 minutes and death occurs soon after. The title actually is a saying believed to have derived from being hung.
There are some instances where people simply lost consciousness and revived at a later time after they were cut down. Some considered that a pardon from God. Others thought the person made a deal with evil.
Executed criminals were traditionally buried at crossroads. Normally, they couldn’t be buried in a church graveyard, and there were concerns the dead could come back to haunt the town. Being buried at a crossroads helped confuse angry spirits.
Crossroads were considered liminal places where one could meet all manner of supernatural creatures. Some traditions state it’s the best place to contact the dead or conduct spells.
Sam is still Jewish (although secretly since this is the 1640s) in this fic. There are old Jewish spells, which fall under a specific type of mysticism, that call allow one to call forth the dead to ask a question. This is what she was trying to do.
