Understanding Lennon McCartney Rewatch Part 2.1
Cynthia and John are worse and crazier for admitting what they admitted in the bio. But Jane and Paul are not exempt.
Tumblr media
Will forever love this pic of Paul and Julian. He does not look like the fun uncle. He looks tired and dependable. Just stepped out of the womb as a father, didn't he? The sperm that fertilized his egg probably passed some fatherly advice and hair tussles to the other sperm as it passed them.
Tumblr media
They should've bought the fucking island.
They never look more like a couple than when the women they're actually dating are right next to them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The India footage actually looks so beautiful. Obviously it's a beautiful place, but they all genuinely look so free and at peace there. It really could've been so good for them. Getting enlightened, getting soberish, growing closer as a band, taking a much-needed rest. It should've been good.
The music choices in this documentary! The drastic shift from, “all you need is love” and “the dream I had was true” and “I don't need much to set me free.” to Paul leaving to “yes I'm lonely. Wanna die.” “I'm going insane.” “Look at me. Who am I supposed to be?” 8d8 psychic damage. And the thing is it's real. John really did flip a switch, just like that.
Smashing my head into a wall. It's the same as Yoko's quote about how ‘nobody hurt John more than Paul.’ Really Pete? Worse than after his mum died? Really Yoko? More than that drunk cop? Paul, what the fuck did you do to him in India, seriously, because at this point in the doc I can't accept the theory that it was just some lack of communication, I just can't.
Tumblr media
It's also telling to me that when John's losing it, everyone's solution is some time alone with Paul. Nobody panic. Paul can fix him. Little do they know Paul's the one that broke him. Or maybe they do know and that's only another reason they know Paul's the only man for the job?
Old-fashioned ad voice: You liked Protective Jesus Scandal Paul? You'll love Protective LSD Scandal John! Really. Before the question is even out, he's making fun of it. I think he cuts off the interviewer at least three times with jokes before he can get the sentence out, and by the time he is, Paul's giggling too hard to feel bad about his little PR fuck-up.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then he lets Paul talk a bit before jumping back in, this time with his Hard Man suit on. It's just so good. A testament to their unconditional love, really. Because, clearly, Paul's just hurt John pretty bad. And yet, here John is. Using every trick he's got to defend his friend.
Tumblr media
But actually, though John is supposedly the one everyone's worried about, Paul's doing a pretty shit job of being the “stable” one. This entire press tour he's either fucking blazed and laughing at everything or disassociated and not contributing.
(((except during that political discussion – again! Paul secretly has actual thoughts on actual things?!)))
Tumblr media
But for the most part, John's absolutely holding down the fort. I wonder if this is another case of everyone – all their friends and business associates, just like we as a fandom still do now – assuming John is the problem child, and Paul's the strong one, but actually they're both both.
Back to the political interview. They're just so in sync. Finishing each other's sentences when you're talking about the weather or your shared work is one thing. Finishing each other's sentences on complex topics like why poor whites often vote bigots in or the cause of rampant misinformation is quite another.
“Letting his dad cut his hair at sixteen, seventeen.” You all know that John hates Jim quote.
Tumblr media
John: so there's war, and vegetables. There's relativity and absolute.  Paul (absolutely smitten): that's great Johnny. Int: that's rather hard for people to interpret. John: well if they can't interpret it now, maybe they will later..... 1. John really was extremely intelligent. 2. That last statement sums up Beatles historiography.
Paul really just Won't be alone with John, will he? Well, two can play at that game, Paul, and John's going to win, let me tell you.
Tumblr media
But he's going to do one last panic grab for attention first.
Tumblr media
I really do think if John had done something like that *before* Paul would've given him that attention. Told him he's being insane and taken him home to splash some cold water on him or something and then given him whatever softness Paul was capable of. But not anymore.
I wonder if Paul could go back to 1966 if he just wouldn't have taken John to that Indica show where he met Yoko. If he would've just said “okay John, sure, let's just stay home and trip on the couch tonight.” I don't know.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anyway, Yoko gets an A+ for persistence. Imagine being Paul, George, or Ringo, though, and John is suddenly madly in love with this woman whose been begging you all (and then him specifically) for a platform for over a year? It would be weird to say the least.
John: don't you hate me? I'm crazy, you know. Paul: no I don't hate you. John: aren't you pissed at me now, Paul? Even a little bit? Paul: I'm very proud of you. It's the unstoppable force (“Don't ‘nore me, Mimi!”) vs the immovable object (“I learned to put a shell around me”.) Someone get them some professional help before they nuke the whole world.
“There is, however, a desire to get power in order to use it for good.” One of those quotes that just really lets you see a person, you know? Benevolent dictator Paul.
Yoko, why are you talking about how bad your boy doesn't want to fuck you right in front of all his closest friends and on record for posterity? If you have to be talking about your sex life, shouldn't you be lying about how insanely horny he is for you? Oh, right, she will think of that, just not yet.
Tumblr media
And then she waxes poetic about how turned on John is when he's working on music with Paul. Cool. Smart. Thanks for that, though, genuinely.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And Then (gosh, Yoko is such an asset to Beatles history when she's not actively spreading misinformation. Everyone give her a hand) she goes on about how Paul goes out of his way to make her feel respected and even valued. Compare that to John and Linda, anyone? And I want to be clear, I'm not saying this means John cares too much and Paul doesn't care at all, which might be the surface read. I just think John's reaction was to scream in everyone's face that he was in pain and Paul's was to insist ad nauseam that he was fine. You know?

What the Lost Boys think of vampire related media pt.2
Tumblr media
After your last vamp media talk you had more questions you absolutely needed the answers to. Some of those answers came more naturally than you thought.
What we do in the Shadows:
-This is their absolute favorite show. It's just something they can all sit down to watch and get a nice laugh.
-David was actually the one that suggested it to the group
-He thinks it's about as close to what being a really vampire is like.
-You brought up your last conversation about why no vampire media could be so close to the real thing and he quickly responded with “Vampires are made up to be these gross demon creatures with no self control, when in fact most vampires were just normal humans going about their life.”
-He knew that no one in this show actually knows any vampires because of inconsistencies, but it's as close to it as they can all get without having to kill anyone for it.
-”Are you off your tits, boy?” “He is.”
-Paul quotes the show all the damn time (And so do the others but he is the main culprit.)
-you actually can't get him to stop
-”I became a vampire to suck blood and to fuck forever.”
-”No fuck off. Can't be side tracked with cheap sex potions.”
-Need an answer to any questions? Paul will respond with “Coprophilia.”
-Marko is giggling at Paul's quotes and answers with his own
-”Pizza pie” :D
-”He's my sweet cheese!”
-”She speaks the bullshit.”
-His favorite character is Nadja of course
-You have to pry him away from the T.V if you need him to do something else
-Dwayne will stop whatever he's doing if you offer to watch WWDITS with him
-He loves the historical references and gags
-He relates to Guillermo most of the time, being one of the voices of reason in his Chaos Coven
-”i was thinking w-” “we should finish each other off and tell no one?” “I’m game if you are.” ✨Spooky music✨
•This show is permanently engraved into their brain
•You can take the boys out of WWDITS but you can not take the WWDITS out of the boys
Hotel Transylvania:
-Paul squints at the T.V “This has to be a crime to watch.”
-Dwayne without turning away from the T.V “Dracula is going to go ape shit when he sees this “
-David eats his popcorn slowly “at least there is other monsters in this movie.”
-Marko is giggling at the Blob and Scream Cheese “I fucking love kids movies.”
-All of them hated the village scene though.
Kid vampire:
-They all watch it because Laddie wanted them too
-All you can hear for the next few days is “Kid Vampire!” in that accent
-David and Dwayne thought the bogger nose bleed drink was absolutely disgusting.
-Like to the point the both gagged.
-Paul thinks it a cute little project
-Marko likes how they say ‘blood’
-Dwayne uses the song “Vampire brush” to get Laddie to brush his teeth
Monster High:
-Marko and Paul sing the theme song semi consistently
-”Monster-monster high! monster high! monster-monster high! Freaky, sheek, and fly, monster high, where student bodies lay.”
-”We got spirits, yes we do! We got spirits, how bout you!?”
-This is another show they all watch with Laddie
-David isn't a raving fan, but he can stand it
-”Draculaura is a bit of a lazy name.” “Clawdeen wolf? Lagona blue? Cleo De Nile? Everyone has a lazy name because it's a kids show!”
-Dwayne is secretly into it and asks Laddie to watch it with him so he has an excuse
Thanks for reading <3
Yes I saw the comment you wanted me to see. Don't think I was ignoring you, I just had to find other media to talk about. (I stalk my own page like a Hyena. It's a little sad tbh lmao)

I heard that the end of the bonus chapter with Bryce x Nesta x Azriel was similar to the end of Az’s bonus chapter in Silver Flames. To me, this disproves the theory that Gwyn was luring Azriel. This doesn’t confirm ships or anything, but I feel like it does show that Gwyn isn’t evil. Could she still be a lightsinger? Yes. Does that mean she’s evil? Absolutely not.
I just think the wording in the bonus chapter was interesting. It seemed similar to Azriel’s bonus chapter. The wording. How it ended with Bryce swearing the shadows danced to Az’s humming. We also saw he momma issues. And Nesta, I love her so much.
Yes, there are some similarities!
Azriel humming a song and his shadows dancing to the sound, there are definitely positive connotations there, along with the positive feeling he was left with in his acosf chapter while thinking about Gwyn's smile. I think it's fun that music was such a big part of that chapter because it was a way for Az and Nesta to bond, but it also helped us learn a bit more about him! And obviously it's something that ties him to Gwyn, which is why people lost their shit a couple of years ago when Sarah said that yes, we will see Azriel sing. (Funny how all of these things Sarah said would happen have ALL occurred in the hofas bonus chapters)
Anon, I have been trying to talk about his mommy issues FOR. YEARS. It was explicitly stated in acofas that he has them, and my analysis has been for AGES that one of his big hang-ups is the fact that Azriel, as a child/teen, wasn't able to protect his mother or Mor. So he's left with this icy rage, and you know what else?
I just finished a book yesterday called Monsters by Claire Dederer (great book for anyone interested in the idea of separating art from artist, what "consuming" art means, fandom, and cancel culture) and she says this quote, which was told to her by her therapist -
Rage is the emotion of the powerless
And I just - yeah? Azriel's rage really comes from the fact that he was powerless to stop the things that happened to Mor and to his mother. He has been hanging on to that sense of powerlessness for literal centuries. He keeps saving women because he is trying to correct the wrongs of the past, to course correct and ensure that he never feels so helpless again. I think it's also tied into his need to be of service but that's another post.
Wait, how did I get here?? haha Anyway Azriel has mommy issues and it was stated explicitly in acofas and I (and others) said that it's one of the reasons why he has a healing journey coming and then hofas just proved me right.

General blog info
Since I said I would do this (actually I am just bored and no one knows wtf is going on in this blog) Imma make a masterpost with the general info of the blog and what's going on here. and also a little info about myself because ppl need more info abt me to send hate anons:
im a writer, obviously. im also a demiromantic apothisexual transmasc. i like baking, going out in the woods, writing (obviously), drawing and making art, playing instruments and singing, and im also a big fan of either napping half the day or staying up all night.
im not in very many fandoms but i like hollow knight, inmost, lethal company, terraria, bramble the mountain king, and ive recently gotten into heartstopper (in other words i began watching it with my more or less heartstopper-obsessed cousin, she is very sweet and yes i think the show is pretty cute too). other than that, im gonna watch more horror movies and series as that's what i write too.
(DNI is very small. do not interact with me if your intentions have anything to do with sex. thats it. i am SEVERELY sex-repulsed and will be triggered by anything that society has made sexual. its easier in text but for the fucking love of god do not send me pictures.)
now, onto the content:
Content:
writing snippets
aspec posting
stories and poems
a little bit of venting/storytime/complaining
talking to ma homies
a little bit of art
a series of writing snippets called "new/out of context quotes and quips"
probably something else i forgot
(also the reason i dont have a venting blog is bcuz hot topic i think ill keep everything in one place cuz im one person and i feel different things lmfao (yes i am also surprised by the fact that i have emotions apparently))
now a masterlist of my writing:
Novels and works-in-progress (AKA everything i write):
My main novel series, Broken Promises, currently contains ten novels:
Breached Containment
Twisted Betrayal
The Final Hunt
The Madman's Strive
Broken Strings (AKA Bring Us To Life)
Pinky Promise?
Too Late
Welcome To My Mind
BACKWARDS
I'm Sorry
and here's the main characters, main cast and the main side characters:
Ambrose Blackthorne
Ace Dawn
Caleb Whitlock
Dylan Hunter
Jason Godfrey
Juan Moreno
The Shadow Reaper (he has a name but its revealed in the seventh novel so im waiting with it)
Zafirah Satar
Kierce Cadell
Joseph Clayton
Blake Campbell
Steven Zhai
Ashley
Silly Sally
James Forest
Phoenix Loughty
Rahmah Abdullah Aziz
Rick Davis
Zane Hawklum
Gabriella Roseware
Alicia Wood
Rose Andersson
Eleanor Dawn
Michael Godfrey
(there are probably a lot more that are either family to the mcs or minor side characters, so im not including them here)
other than that, i have a few standalones that i work on every now and then:
Misplaced Faith
Inescapable Lucidity
Blades of Rose (with several co-authors, including @ang3lic-t3ars and @daredevil-arty)
We All Eventually Drown (with one co-author)
then, of course, i have a bunch of smaller projects, most of them related to my novel series:
The Solic AKA the new bible
Realms of Selinc - A Beastiary
A whole lot of music. just a doc named Music
The Anomalies, the start of a horror skit yt channel
PHOBIA, a video game that im not working on at the moment
I Was Born With A Gift - a prologue to the animation channel where I will animate my novel series on streams and such
All of the Darkrimm, Lumancyid included (hell and heaven lore)
A bunch of rituals. Do Not Question
Two D&D campaigns, one a homebrew and the other just. heaven and hell from BP (the novel series)
And since im extremely bored ill make an ask game so yall can ask me abt stuff (mostly the writing i gotta get more active in that)
have me tell you about one of my novels/works
ask about a character
ask about something you've seen in a snippet (specify)
wait actually you could just ask yourself from what youve seen and then ask extra info if youre curious about something
yeah acc just know my inbox is open for absolutely everything except stuff that goes against my DNI so u go ask stuff homies and thats it
well thats all i had to say so buhbyeee

Imagine spending Christmas with Nathan Bateman at The Compound.
You’ve decorated the house with warm twinkle lights (“honey these are TACKY. I can program the existing house lights to any stupid color”), balsam scented candles (“why’d you get these, we’re in the middle of a FOREST, the place already smells like tree sap”), Christmas music, tinsel, an ornamented tree in the living room (“Jesus, babe what’d I say? We’re SURROUNDED by these things. Did you really have to get Dave to helicopter in a Douglas Fir from Williams Sonoma?…. Yes I know what Williams Sonoma is, it’s on the fucking credit card statement, that’s how.”) You make hot chocolate with peppermint candy canes (“do you know how much sugar is in that cup you’re sipping? No thanks.”)
He’s a bit of a Grinch. He rolls his eyes when it’s your turn to pick the movie for your movie night and you choose “Elf”. He doesn’t laugh, doesn’t touch the caramel popcorn you made either. He folds his arms and grits his teeth when you laugh and quote your favorite lines along with the movie.
When it’s his turn to choose a movie he picks The Shining.
“The fucking Shining, Nathan? The Shining??”
“What? You love The Shining!”
“Of course I love The Shining, but it’s not a Christmas movie!”
“It’s Christmas adjacent.”
“How so?!”
“There’s… snow. And family.”
“You’re absolutely right, who could forget the great heartwarming Christmas theme of chasing your child with an axe through the snow? It’s practically Rockwellian.”
“Jesus. Fine. No Kubrick. How about Die H—“
“I knew you were going to say Die Hard. Fine. Die Hard. Great compromise Nate, really. Nothing says cherishing warmth and peace like C4 down an elevator shaft.”
You fold your arms and sit back against the couch stiffly in a very Nathan-like fashion.
“There is a love b-plot with Holly.”
“I said fine, Nate. Que it up.”
You don’t get up to make the candied pecans you’d been planning on. You seethe and use your frustration to push back your tears. What a jerk.
If it’s any consolation, Nathan isn’t engrossed in the film either. He looks cold, folding his arms for warmth in his thin henley. You’d usually wrap his grumbling ass up in a fluffy blanket, kiss his cheek, and offer him some herbal tea or hot cider (to which he’d unequivocally decline and request a beer instead). But you don’t. You both sit a cushion’s distance apart, unswaddled, unsnacked, and unhappy. Nathan glances over to you about every 10 seconds, his demeanor shifting until halfway through the film he pauses John McClane and asks, “I can’t enjoy the movie when you’re acting like this.”
You tamp down the urge to screech at him like a tea kettle, and instead speak to him in a level sarcastic tone he can relate to.
“I apologize, Nathan. I can only imagine how frustrating it must be to want to enjoy something with the person you love, only to have them be rude and cold. Sincerest fucking apologies.”
You don’t look at him, you wrap your arms tighter around yourself and stare at the still frame of Bruce Willis in the air shaft, feigning engrossment.
“I’ve been a dick. I’m sorry, it’s just it’s fucking Q4 and the dev team launched the latest hardware so goddamn late in the fall it’s been a—“
“I get it. I’m sorry you’re stressed. and I’m sorry for foisting all this hokey shit on you.” You gesture around the room to the twinkle lights, tinsel, tree and snowflake paraphernalia. “I should have known you were stressed about work and it wasn’t fair trying to force you to be all Holly Jolly.”
Nathan scoots closer to you and takes your hand in his, playing with your fingers when he says, “work should never be an excuse for me treating you like crap. I’ve been bonafide fucking scrooge, spitting on tiny Tim and shit.”
“Am I tiny Tim in this scenario?”
“Nah. Jacob Marley, without a dou—“
“Shut up, ass!” You shove Nathan’s shoulder and you both laugh. He brings you in for a tight hug and pulls you down to his chest for a cuddle.
“You know what I did for Christmas last year?”
“What?” You finger the texture of his cream colored Henley.
“Promise you won’t tell?”
“I think it’s pretty clearly stated in that NDA that all your intellectual property remains a secret on penalty of death? or something equally dramatic?”
“I was here. Alone. didn’t even realize it was Christmas till I tried zooming Ted about something or other and saw everyone in the office was offline. When I put two and two together I left the lab, drank about a gallon of sake and Sapporo, watched ‘Its a Wonderful Life’, and… cried.”
“You did not.”
“I did.”
“Awww, Nate-y poooo, everytime a bell rings an Angel ge—“
You squeal when Nathan flips you over on the couch, hovering above you, he tickles your neck aggressively with his beard as he playfully peppers the underside of your chin with kisses.
“Penalty of death, remember?”
“Your tender side is safe with me, Ebenezer.”
Nathan looks into your eyes for a few beats. Really stares into them before glancing around the room at all the warm glowing decor.
“The place looks nice.”
You smile up at him, warm happy tears pricking at the corners of your eyes when you smooth your hand down his cheek and into his soft beard.
“Thanks.”
He continues to stare at you. You suspect there’s a secret vulnerable monologue going on in his head when he stares into your eyes. things he’ll probably never say, never admit, never profess. He’s like an iceberg this one. Most would disregard him as “cold” and move on. But you know better. Even if you can’t see it , you know the depth of him beneath it all.
“Merry Christmas” you whisper
“You filthy animal!” you both say at the same time, hugging each other in a fit of mild laughter.
“Oooh Home Alone. Let’s watch that one!”
“Sounds great.”
You grab the fuzzy blanket, prep the candied pecans, and watch the film; cuddled up all cozy with Nathan as snow falls silently outside the glass walls of your glowing little sanctuary.

Get to know me better game—2 in 1 because I'm 6 months late
Tagged by: @baratrongirl and @missmewachu
Thanks for being so patient while I was figuring out how Tumblr works again and why I had a blue dot beside "Activity" (as in, notifications about tag games I've been sent 6 months ago. Better late than never 🤦‍♀️) Thankfully the tag games you sent my way are very similar so it won't be hard to do 2 in 1!
Last song I listened to: Chipzel - Courtesy - YouTube
The 1st track of Super Hexagon, composed by Chipzel. Chipzel's music has been a pick-me-up since 201...4 I think? And since I fell back into Super Hexagon around a week ago, the music has also found its way back into my work playlist.
Currently reading: Trick question! There is what I am MEANT to read, and what I am ACTUALLY reading.
What I am MEANT to read is To Shape a Dragon's Breath, by Moniquill Blackgoose, which has absolutely all the elements I need to love a book. The problem is that my brain absolutely refuses moving further than Chapter 1, and I've been stuck for MONTHS. The good news is that when it happens, I usually struggle until the moment my brain finally snaps and I read the whole book in an afternoon. Wait for me, Moniquill Blackgoose, I'll soon be raving about your book.
What I am ACTUALLY reading is... well, it's more re-reading, but I'm going through Happy Hour by Inkflavored and Keep the Light Shining by Clydeside, two Yu-Gi-Oh AUs that have been incredibly healing for me in the past months, for very different reasons. I wanted to re-experience them to see if I could turn them into fanbinding projects (if the authors give me the authorisation of course, but I haven't reached this level of confidence yet, let's give it time.)
Currently watching: Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS.
Do you believe me if I tell you that it was an accident? It kinda was though! I wasn't the one who played the first episodes I just kept going afterwards. That said, I have fully adopted Yusaku. I kind of wish he could meet Philip from Kamen Rider W. Things would go so well.
Currently writing: this one is plain cruel, because after a drought spell of almost 2 years, I finally feel like getting back into writing (thank you, current obsession.)
I have 3 WIPs, one PWP because I like a challenge, one backstory of a character that has basically become my OC, and one AU that @wisyhana created and that I'm using as a wonderful sandbox. I am between 2k and 5k into each, nothing is complete, I'm losing my mind. But at least I'm writing again, right?
Spicy/sweet/savoury: Okay yes no it's cruel again and you will not make me pick just one.
If you've followed me these past years you know that I have completely lost my sense of taste between 2020 and 2023. I was lucky enough, and honestly even the specialised doctor said it was a miracle, to have most of it come back to me abruptly in March 2023, after 3 years unable to enjoy a bit of chocolate or a nice gratin. Some tastes are lost forever, but so few compared to what came back that I just can only be very very grateful and very confident in saying SPICY SWEET SAVOURY I'LL TAKE THEM ALL. I LOVE TASTES. ALL OF THEM.
Relationship status: I have been told polyamory looks good on me.
And I am lucky to have the most patient and tolerant lovers ever. EVER. I love them so much and I'm so bad at showing it because I am a mess. There isn't a day where my heart doesn't overflow with gratitude that they are in my life and agree to putting up with my bullshit.
Current obsession: Listen, Mew put it SO ELOQUENTLY I can help but quote:
mentally ill traumatised japanese teenagers and their ancient egyptian guys who hang out in their jewellery all playing card games.
So, yeah, current obsession is Yu-Gi-Oh!, and with it Duel Links, and everything children-card-game-adjacent. I am currently trying to figure out why everyone in this kid's show is so hot and delightfully traumatised. Characters after my own heart, all ready to be projected on and used for cathartic writing purposes. Other obsession is MEW'S FAULT TOO ACTUALLY since it's my newly founded Clan in Flight Rising. Ask me about my dragon Atem.
Favourite colour: I like my colour like my wine—burgundy. (I actually like all sort of shades of purple, violet and red, but I don't know how to list them.)
Tagging: Wow uh who do I know around here who is still active?
@twilightknight17 for sure (although I'm sure you already did it), @wingsonghalo maybe? Uuuh, I think @the-wanderer-of-thoughts and @istadris? You know, considering how inactive I am here, I think it's already a lot, but if you're not in the list and want to do it too, be my guest!

“But why?” You whined while being shoved in the bathroom with a change of clothes. “I told you that I just want to stay home tonight!”
“Chick, I said we’re going clubbing which means we are going clubbing!” Willow said slamming the door shut. “When you open this door in the next ten minutes, you better have that outfit on!” Her footsteps starts fading away as you groaned.
You love Willow, you really did. You love her to bits and pieces. But sometimes you wonder why you allowed her to drag you places. Willow knew that you disliked the club, but she also knew that you couldn’t say no to her. To celebrate her recent championship win, she wanted to take her closest friends to the club for a night of quote-on-quote “fun.” You’re not a wrestler. But you did enjoy watching it, and your best friend kick ass. Because of her being in the profession, you were able to build more friendships and even go backstage to various events.
“I never agreed to go, Willow! Why do I have to go?” You said as you started to look at the outfit. It wasn’t a bad fit, Willow has style.
“I already paid for the VIP section and you don’t wanna waste my money, right? Besides, if you don’t go, you can just Zelle me like 35 dollars.” Willow said in a sing-song voice. You rolled your eyes before putting on the outfit. Again, it wasn’t a bad dress, you’re just surprised how well it hugged your curves and complimented your skin tone. Looking at the mirror, you sighed once more before exiting the bathroom to find Willow talking to Dori (Ruby Soho).
They both turned to you with wide eyes. “Yes ma’am!” Willow shouted, “I did a great job!”
“You look absolutely stunning,” Dori said with a smile. She made her way over to you, putting her arm around your shoulder. “Do you have a boyfriend?” She asked, making the three of you laugh.
“Damn, by the time we get back from tonight, she might,” Willow said giggling. “Now, go put on your heels before we’re late.”
You walked over to the bed and started to put on your heels as you started to speak. “So who’s gonna be there?”
“Us, Eddie, Adrienne (Athena), and James (Orange Cassidy). Other people from work will also be there, but in terms of the VIP section, that’s it.”
—Time Skip; 45 minutes later—
Arriving at the club, you three met up with Eddie, James, and Adrienne who were sitting in the VIP section. Adrienne jumped up to give you a big hug as James and Eddie complimented you.
“Lemme know if you find a charger. My phone’s nearly dead.” James said as Eddie agreed with him.
“Y’all don’t charge your phones?” You asked.
“No, just like other people’s hopes, we let dem die. But because we might be able to see you get lit or go home with someone, we wanna be prepared.” Eddie cackled as you sat next to him, rolling your eyes.
The music started to get louder, making Willow, Adrienne, and Dori run out on the people-filled floor. You never thought you would see the sight of people bumping and grinding to Timbaland, drinks being passed around, and drunken idiots getting carried out again (see what I did there? Timbaland and Carry Out-). The lights were switching colors, bouncing from red to green to blue and repeating. Your nerves started to take over as your leg began to bounce. Eddie and James looked over at you in concern.
“If you don’t like clubs, why are you here?” James asked.
“Willow dragged me here. Besides, I want to be here for her celebration.” You answered, roaming your eyes over the crowd, making sure that your friends are safe.
“Well, you’re a damn good friend for stepping out of your comfort zone.” Eddie started. “But, dude, you’ll never have a good time just sitting here with us. You need to get up and experience the dance floor at least a couple of times.”
“Wise words from the Mad King,” James said taking a sip from his glass.
“I’ll get up when a song that I know plays.” You said crossing your arms. Well, at that moment, you were about to eat your words as Yeah by Usher (or your favorite club song) boomed through the club. Although you disliked the club, you couldn’t help but love this song and its vibe. The color drained from your face as Eddie loudly cackled at you. Adrienne and Willow made eye contact with you as you started to shake your head. “No, no, no.”
The girls made their way over to you, grabbed you by your arms, dragged you out of the section, and laughed as they brought you out to the middle of the floor. The bass of the song started to kick in your ears and the vibration of the place made you damn-near stumble. Willow shouted at you, with her voice and words just barely registering in your ears and mind, “Dance with us!”
As the song progressed, you started to feel the beat more and allowed it to take over your body as you danced with your friends. Little by little, your feelings of nervousness began to disappear. A smile appeared on your face as you were singing along to the song with Willow and Dori. Even though the song began to end, the vibe and energetic aura did not go anywhere as another fast-paced song started to play.
To your shock, you felt hands on the small of your back, making you jump toward Adrienne and Dori. You quickly turned your head to see a random man with a surprised look. He was a little bit taller than you, not by much, with a dark ensemble on. He stepped closer as he began to talk. And suddenly you were reminded of why you don’t like clubs.
“My bad ma. Just wanted to dance with you.” He said.
“Oh, no. I’m good! Thank you though” You said with a forced grin as you continue to sway.
He smirked as he said, “Are you sure? I’m sure a woman like you would like to dance with a man like myself.”
Adrienne spoke up, stepping in between you two. “Hey, she said she’s good. Now, back up before-“
“I mean I can dance with you too, sweetheart. There’s enough of me to go around.” He said making her livid.
“Adri, I’m fine. Imma go get some water.” You said to her as you started to walk towards the bar. To you, the worst thing about the club was the confidence it gave to everyone, especially the douchebags who think they’re hot shit. Some people didn’t know how to take no for an answer, that was sad (and more so pathetic). And to be honest, that small interaction just drained your energy.
Although the music was still booming throughout the club, it was a little bit quieter at the bar. So you decided to sit there, just to catch your breath and build up your social meter. You sat at the bar and asked the bartender to give you bottled water. You took a sip from it as someone sat next to you.
“Well, babe, if you wanted a drink, all you had to do was say so.” A deep voice said. You looked over and it was the same guy from earlier with the biggest smirk ever. You mentally groaned and thought to yourself it was gonna be one of those nights.
“I just felt a little thirsty.” You said taking another sip of your water.
He got up slightly and leaned down to your ear and whispered, “Well, I have something else that is much more refreshing than that water for ya.”
What the fuck?
You almost spat out your water at how disgusted and shocked you were. You put down the bottle and faced him. “Listen, I was trying to be nice but you’re not taking the hint. I’m good by myself, strictly by myself. Enjoy your night though.” You said very firmly.
“Yeah, but I figured that you would be so much better with me.” He winked at you. He continued to talk about himself as you were trying to search for your friends. You couldn’t find any of them. Dori, Willow, and Adrienne? Gone from the dance floor. Eddie and James? Were no longer in the VIP section. You decided to get up and start looking for someone, anyone else who could help. “Oh did you want to dance again baby?”
“Leave me alone!” You said sliding past through people with him hot on your trail.
“You know this is not a good look for you babe. If you keep being like this, you’re gonna end up alone.” He said as you pretended to gag. “Come on, let me show you a good time.”
“Well, I rather be alone than to be with you.” Your eyes were trying to scan for a safe space. You feel like you reached a dead end until you spot this dude against the wall. He had on a white T-shirt with black jeans. He looked tall and intimidating as his arms were folded across his chest. You immediately rushed to him, momentarily losing the other dude. You nearly collided with the man with how fast you were borderline jogging, “Hi, I’m so sorry to bother you. But there is a guy following me and I don’t know where my friends are.”
He looked down and his cold gaze melted at the sight of you. “I assume he’s wearing all-black.” He said as you nodded. He ushered you behind him and faced the man, who was approaching you two. “Hey dude, back up. She doesn’t want you near her.”
“Hey bro, you don’t know what you’re talking about. That girl is gonna-“
“Do absolutely nothing with you. Now, either you leave her alone or we can fight right now.” He said stepping closer and looking down at the creep. The creep immediately backed off and walked away, muttering words under his breath. You exhaled, letting out a breath that you didn’t even you were holding. “Are you okay?” He asked, looking back at you.
“Much better. Thank you so much, again, I’m sorry to bother you.”
“Please, no gorgeous woman bothers me. I was getting bored over here anyways.” He said making you giggle. “But just a question; how did you know I’ll help?”
“Well you looked very intimidating so I just thought I’d ask. You just look trustworthy…especially because of your keychain.” You said motioning towards the lanyard that was hanging out of his pocket that said “Fuck racism” with various decorations. “Don’t worry, I think it’s cute.”
“I forgot I had that on me.” He chuckled as he scratched his neck. “But I gotta ask what is your name?”
“Y/N. And what is my darling knight’s name?”
“I am sir Darius.” He said while bowing, making you giggle again.
As you two talked going on for 15 minutes, you found Darius to be a sweetheart rather than an intimidating and brooding man, a very handsome one at that. He worked with AEW along with Willow, so it was very surprising that you haven’t seen him around. He was also dragged out to the club by his friends (that are almost drunk beyond belief).
Although you two literally just met moments before, you felt like you have known him for a while. His caring and funny personality made you so comfortable.
Then that conversation turned into a dance. Then that dance turned into a couple of more dances. You began to enjoy your time here again as Darius kept you entertained and smiling from ear to ear. As you were dancing with Darius (very closely might I add), Dori popped up with Adrienne at her side.
“Y/N, where have you b- Oh hey Darius,” Dori said, making Darius smile and wave. “Well, since you’re with Darius, I know that you’re okay. But we’re gonna leave, James and Willow are drunk and Eddie is being kicked out.”
You stopped dancing, “For what?” Then you heard a glass break followed by cursing and New York slang being thrown around. You only assumed it was Eddie in the distance.
“He found that guy was being rude to us earlier,” Adrienne said with a small sarcastic smile. “You coming with us?”
You looked at them and then back at Darius, who gave you a soft smile. “Um, you guys go ahead. Imma stay here for a little bit longer.” You said making Dori and Adrienne smile. They nodded before walking away. You looked back at Darius (with a glimpse of Adrienne giving Dori some money), and your smile grew as you laid your head on his chest with the two of you swaying to the slow song in the background.
"I know I keep saying thank you. But I really do mean it, Darius."
"Don't worry Y/N, it's no problem. I can always be there to protect you."
Even though this night had its ups and downs (more downs than ups), you found yourself actually enjoying the club.
All thanks to Darius, your trustworthy knight.

Writing Advice We All Need To Remember
Save your work. Yes, I know, I can practically hear you rolling your eyes at me, but we can all forget to do it, no matter how long we've been writing. Even if the software you use autosaves, get into the habit of manually saving before closing a document. It will save your sanity one day, I promise.
Following on from point number one: regularly back up your work. Especially if you write on multiple devices. I lost 2 hours of writing once because, even though I'd saved my document, I was using Scrivener and switched from writing on my laptop to writing on my iPad. When I went to sync the work up, it reverted to the original file, and it's safe to say I nearly cried.
Don't worry too much about titles at the beginning. There have genuinely been times when I've sat for over an hour trying to work out what the heck to call a short story or fic, and not writing a single word during that time. By the time I finally came up with something, I was feeling annoyed, out of sorts, and didn't want to write anymore. If you need to use a placeholder title just so you can open the document and start writing, do it. You can always change it later. I've got a short story called "burningmonsternightmarefic" - I know exactly which story it is, and calling it that meant I could get on with actually writing the story. And no, I still have absolutely no idea what I'm going to call it once it's done!
Every story you write - even that 500-word drabble - will help you improve as a writer. Your sentences will get better. You'll find it easier to show, not tell. Your self-confidence will improve. You won't like everything you write - no writer does - and some of those stories will never see another pair of eyes on them. But each one you write will help you grow just that little bit more.
Do you hate everything you've written and are struggling to string three words together? Take a break. I know that's not what you'll want to hear, but trust me, it will help. Not only a break, but go do something completely different. Have a mad spring clean, go for a walk, blast out some music. Whatever it is that calms you down and helps you relax. There have been plenty of times when I've been struggling to write, gone away to make myself a cup of tea or put some washing in, only to get a burst of inspiration while measuring out the washing liquid.
Write what you love. One thing I see in a lot of writing groups is people telling others that they need to write to market to be successful. But to quote the wonderful Mr Neil Gaiman, there is no market. Yes, there are tropes and themes that are very popular and may sell well, but at the same time, there are some truly wonderful (and popular) stories that just unapologetically do their own thing. There is an audience for absolutely everything if you can just get your work in front of them, so do your thing and enjoy the process.

Eighth Doctor Reviews: The Eighth Doctor Adventures; Series One
Tumblr media
In honor of me re-listening to the first series of the 8DAs and it being rereleased as a box set I'm going to be giving a little review.
I mostly listen to this at work, and jot down notes and the like pretty quickly.
Also if you are interested in this series it is one of the few that is free on spotify: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/704B1LamEbU2wNPDmfwLQ8
Doctor: The Eighth Doctor
Companion: Lucie Miller
#1&2: Blood of the Daleks
Blood of the Daleks is an absolutely amazing start to this range. Quickly introducing a new companion, showing the state that 8 is in and giving us one of the best Dalek stories that Big Finish have ever done.
Lets talk about Lucie Miller, I absolutely love Lucie Miller. She instantly endears herself to the listener, and her 'antagonistic' relationship with 8 is, "Chef's Kiss". She has that Rose Tyler energy but without the melodrama of season 2. In short Lucie kicks ass.
This is a great jumping on point for anyone at all interested in the 8th doctor and has seen the new series. This was made for people who were watching Doctor Who in the RTD era.
This story has that super interesting contrast between two factions of Daleks that I loved in Remembrance of the Daleks. Also Hayley Atwell (Yes Agent Carter) plays the villain in this and is just killing it.
I really recommend this story, It's free and just one of the most amazing places to start.
fun quotes:
"More Beans please" - The Eighth Doctor
"FISH AND CHIPS FOR ALL!" - The Eighth Doctor
Rating 9/10
#3: The Horror of Glam Rock
A just fine adventure set in the 70s. The name is a cool play off the Horror of Fang Rock. I love the Glam Rock/Bowie vibes of the music. Bernard Cribbins plays an asshole music agent, and it is super weird to hear Wilf shit talk people. We get to meet Lucie's aunt Pat who seems super cool. I love that even though we can't meet Lucie's family in the modern day we get to understand her more through her connections.
The monster in this one is kind of lame, and the constant whining of Tommy Tomorrow is exhausting
Rating 7.5/10
#4: Immortal Beloved
Now this one is super interesting, an extremely Shakespearian story. It's very obviously taking a lot from Romeo and Juliet. I'm not sure why but this one really spoke to me, I love the fusion of Greek mythology and future technology. The whole twist of the piece is also super engaging from a moral standpoint. Also the guy who played Winston Churchill in NewWho plays the antagonist Zeus and is delightfully evil, like really despicable.
Rating 8.5/10
#5: Phobos
This listen through is actually my first time listening to Phobos, I skipped it on my first listen through of the 8DAs season one. I just hate this story and it's the only one I might actually call bad. It's the least fun kind of goofy and follows a far too Scooby Doo type plot for Doctor Who. I do like the idea of this world being a travel destination for thrill seekers to visit, that was a cool bit of world building.
Rating 6/10
#6: No More Lies
When I first listened to this one I thought I had skipped something because of the fact that it starts en media res, but it really works in this story. Zimmerman is a really interesting character. I'm always happy to see a time loop when they pop up. The vortisaurs from Storm Warning reappear and are always a lovely bit of world building for 8. Also the song sung in Hungarian is just wonderfully haunting,
Rating 8/10
#7&8 Human Resources
We finally get some resolution to the mystery of Lucie set up in Blood of the Daleks. The concept of what the company they work at is so fucking cool, like absolutely *chef's kiss*. I always love when the Doctor is thrown into a mundane situation and him roleplaying as a big shot office worker is so fun. Lucie and Karen also have a very funny dynamic. We also get the full introduction of the character of the Headhunter who has been trying to track Lucie down through the whole season. I always love when the Cybermen are handled well and this one does some great things with them. There are so many twists and turns in this one that I simply cannot spoil, but I am in love with this story. Also fuck Straxus, all my homies hate Straxus.
Rating 9/10
Overall this season struggles in some places, but for the low low price of free on Spotify I cannot recommend it enough. Lucie and 8 have an electric dynamic, and this season is tailor made to get NewWho fans into both the 8th Doctor and Big Finish in general, and the two two parters that feature the Cybermen and the Daleks present themselves as real standouts of the whole set.

Part 10~Part 12(coming soon)
Dividers: @yaynowimglad @animatedglittergraphics-n-more
Tumblr media
The sight is absolutely glorious. Erik paddled me through a cave entrance, through a large steel gate. That’s not the part that amazes me.  Huge archways built of stone, steps leading up to the beautiful sight of hundreds of candles. In the middle is a huge organ. It’s scattered with papers and melted wax and yet still its huge sight takes my breath away.
More than that, I can see several tunnels leading into the depths that I know nothing about. The sight makes my mind itch and flow with a million story ideas. My mind feels full. Erik steps out of the boat and holds out his hand for me to take. There is no other option in my mind, I need to know more of him and his home.
The tunnels, the caves, the music sheets and instruments are incredible bit what he showed me next is truly the pinnacle of it all. A huge library, a collection of every opera, musical and ballet ever written. Not only that but a collection of every piece of classical, fantastical and biography books ever written. The most comfortable seat too in the middle.
A gasp escapes my lips, and I can’t seem to control my body. I jump up the stairs, looking in and out each tunnel. “This place is so fantastical!” The words fly from my mouth and the need to read each book aches in my body. Erik seems to truly smile, similar to that day in the woods. “I am glad you enjoy it.” He says, watching as my eyes scan the cave.
“This is where I stay. This is where I write. This is where I create. I do welcome you to use this space in a similar manner.” He motions for his space, he seems almost shy to ask. A joy rises once more in my stomach, the thought of getting to spend so much more time in such an inspirational area brings bubbles in my stomach.
Like so many times before, my body reacts before I have control. I jump down from the stairs, placing my trust in my prince. And without even hesitating, he catches me and spins me around. “Oh thank you, thank you!” I call out, and like each time that I am held by the opera ghost, my writing merges into real life.
When he lefts my feet touch the floor, my prince tucks a piece of, now short hair that has gone astray, behind my ear. “Oh course, my Clemintine. I’d give you the world if you asked me.” He says, quoting the song I had sung earlier on the river. An uncontrollable smirk creeps onto my face.
“Can I start now? Do you mind?” I ask, needing to get a full month of ideas out of my mind and onto paper. He nods, “Yes, yes of course. I too, am ready to create.” And with that I made myself comfortable on the big chair. Surrounded by books and the person who’s gaze makes me feel safe, the words flowed without much control.
I don’t think she knows. I don’t think she knows how much her touch makes me grow hot. I don’t think she knows how much her smile erases the darkness. I don’t think she knows how much how much I love her. I don’t think I know how much I love her. Is it comprehensible? Is our love able to be put into music notes or words on paper?
I am interrupted from my composing my light, airy snores coming from the beautiful blonde-haired girl. The sight is truly majestic. The journal she’d been writing in lays on the floor next to her ink and quill. In her lap is the score for, The Fairy-Queen. The candles glow around her, causing a slight halo around her sleeping form.
I scatter for my paper and charcoal; I must capture her. My scraps and scribbles seem like child’s drawings next to her beautiful form. I am not sure how long I’d been trying to draw her, but I’m interrupted by a groan. Mariposa mumbles something in her sleep before turning to her other side. Curling into a small ball.
A pang of guilt hits me. I’d let her sleep in that uncomfortable position for who knows how long. Her delicate form might wake with bruises and a crooked neck. I drop everything, and carefully pick her up. I so gently place her down on the bed. I feel so grateful just to be allowed to touch her. Much less tuck her in to my own bed.
I hope she doesn’t mind. She doesn’t care about the music; she cares about the story it tells, like me. That is the exact and precise difference between her and Christine. Christine misses her father, and that is why she sings. The curly haired girl only cares for music because of the connection it holds to her father.
But my Mariposa is so engrossed in music purely to share it. To transport people, somewhere the daily struggles don’t have to bother you. Where you can float away. Even as she sleeps, her beauty tells a story of someone who is wild and free. Of someone who doesn’t care what people expect of her and only longs for adventure.
The music notes flow before I can even consider waking her.
Tumblr media
I’ve been watching him for at least half an hour now. He hasn’t realised. I quite enjoy it, seeing the furrow in his brow and the way he would almost growl in frustration. Not only that, but the music notes he are playing seem to somehow show exactly how she feels.
He’s been stuck on the same line for about 10 minutes now. I know exactly how to fix his frustration, but I enjoy seeing him try to wrangle the notes. Until, finally, when he throws the sheet music from the piano, I cave. His back is turned to me, he’s heaving in anger.
My steps are softer than a mouse, and my touch much the same. The moment my fingers land on his shoulders, the tension he carries melt away in a moment. “You’re awake.” He whips around, his eyes once again filled with guilt but his touch is soft on my waist. My heart thumps in my ears.
I nod, “Long enough to know exactly what is wrong with your piece.” I smile at him, moving away in order to hear my own thoughts. Also, of course, to pick up the sheet music. He furrows his brows, but doesn’t say anything. I see it now, “Here, after the G7 there needs to be a hard shift in the tones. Here, I’ll add the next few notes and lyrics too.”
I take the pencil from his hand and sit down on his piano chair. It takes me less that 5 minutes, I’d thinking about it this whole time. My prince sits down next to me, again my heart pounds, our thighs touch and creates a similar heat to my cheeks. I do hope I’m not too pink right now.
He takes the paper from me, once I’m finished. “My Clementine, this is perfect. You can read the sheet music?” He ask, his brows furrow at me. I can’t help but giggle. Even he too underestimates me. “Yes, of course I had to learn behind my parent’s back and there are still somethings I cannot understand.”
Erik seems to be amazed and this time I cover up my face. “Why do you hide yourself?” He takes my hands into his own. “I don’t like it when you look at me like that.” I mumble, it’s true, no one has ever before made me blush like this. I do allow myself to show emotions, but I can control if need be. Not with him, he makes me blush.
“Like what?” He seems so innocent to his wonderous look. “You look at me how I look at the wildflowers. How I look at the snow falling and the butterflies emerging. How I look at blooming flowers and a freshly pealed tangerine. You look at me how I feel when I listen to the plays. You look at me how I look at you.” Why am I saying all this?
No control, nothing! I’m blabbering on about my likeness to the man in front of me. I’ve known him six month yes, but I haven’t seen him the full six months. Not to mention I’ve invited myself into his house, and slept in his bed! The realisation hits me. A gasp escapes my mouth. “Oh, if my mother is going to be so ashamed of me!”
I pull my hands from his own, my hand on my chest as my heart just seems to not slow down! My breath is short. “I must apologise, Monsieur, how very unladylike of me.” I fan the blush from my face, pacing up and down as I realise where I am, what I’m doing and I’ve just said.
“I must tell you, my mother did not raise me like this. No matter how hard she tried, she meant to raise a proper lady. If she heard me now she’d never let me house again.” A faint laugh escapes me. The composer rises from his seat, and grabs my hands.
Then, his no longer gloved hand, raises my chin to look into those beautiful green-brown eyes of his. “My dear, you are a writer, and an adventurer, a dreamer. I might not have known you when you were a young girl, but I know you now. I do know that calling you a lady, would be an insult to your magnificence.” Again I blush but this time I cannot hide my face.
My hand does free itself from his, however and lands on the masked side of his face. “Would you allow me to dream? Would you allow me to dream of your love, of our life, for us to have a future even if it might not last as long as we’d like?” My other hand moves like dust in the air and carefully lands on his other side.
The tear that rolls from his cheek is swept away by my thumb. His hands find my waist and pulls me so close to his body. His face in the crook of his neck, the collar of my neck is wet with his tears. A frown forms on my face, but I comply and pull him closer.
“Why do you cry? Did I say something wrong? Do you not want to be my lover?” It hurts to think but I must know. And yet he his sobs only grow stronger. He’s a big man standing at much taller than 180cm with well-built muscle, I, however, am not. I pull him over to sit down on the piano chair.
Must I leave? Have I offended him? Was he scared that I would take his mask off? “I...I’ll easily leave if that is what you wish.” I mutter out, not entirely sure how to leave this place, but I’ll figure it out if it makes him happy. He removes his latch on my body, “No! Please....”
My heart jumps again, “You want me to stay?” I furrow my brows, I feel like my emotions have been thrown around. “I do not deserve you. You deserve more. A future with me is a future with a monster. A future filled with darkness, evading the light and the sight of others. You, my Clemintine, should be allowed to explore the world, bloom as the flower you are.”
That hurts more than him just not wanting me. His confidence so low that he believes it matters what he thinks of himself? “Okay then,” if he believes that he is so terrible that I could never possible be happy with him, then I’ll believe him. “If you believe it to be true, it must be so.”
I stand up from the stool and go down the steps. I grab my journal, which I always carry with me, and walk further down the steps. “I should listen to my mother, right? Get married to Count Carson and sit and sew all day while I pop out one baby after the other. Is that how you would also want it?” I stand in front of one of the tunnel entrances.
I turn to face him, hoping just maybe he’ll change his mind. “You say you’re a monster, then I’ll treat you like one. I’ll leave you here, I’ll go back to London, I’ll stop writing and live the life my mom wants. Because that’s what you think I deserve.” I stand firm, it might be similar to a child’s fit, but honestly I feel like crying like one too.
He stands at the top of the stairs. His mouth stands agape, and his fists are clenched by his sides. And yet, he is like a stone pillar. “Nothing?” Tears escape me, I wipe it off as best as I can. He goes to defend himself but I hold my hand up. “If your next words aren’t, I’m sorry and I am enough, I don’t want to hear it.” His tears continue to flow.
“I’ve learned from previous experiences that I can’t make someone love themselves. And if someone doesn’t have the capacity to love themselves, how can they ever find it in themselves to love me.” Now I cry even more, remembering previous loves in my full 18 years of life who have shattered my heart because I let them.

Finally actually watched the Chocolate Factory film (original). I read the book years back and remember very little of the Depp film I watched when... elevenish maybe?
I had low hopes going in, at least it cleared the musical's "actually killing them on stage" bar?
First off, this feels like some kind of twisted horror world where everyone is obsessed with chocolate. Kids' film, yes, but I had absolutely no investment in the stakes. And I love good sweets as much as anyone.
Related: I don't like the... fetishisation? is that right? of poverty. Charlie comes from a comically exaggerated background, but it's just a backdrop to make the contest more important to him or something. Again, he's a kid, but how is chocolate the most important thing to him? A lifetime supply of it would be a pleasant way to keep spirits up, but wouldn't solve any long-term problem.
Hey, people with chronic illnesses! Turns out all you need is the right impetus to get up and be just fine, right?
And here we see some very sweet little kids who... Well, only one of them really has any kind of vice. One likes eating and has the audacity to also be a little fat, another, well, WHAT ON EARTH IS WRONG WITH CHEWING GUM AND BEING A BIT COMPETITIVE SHE IS A NORMAL CHILD, the third could use to have his television habits supervised but as an older sister it's normal for young kids not to understand that violence on television doesn't mean it's fun in real life, and the fourth throws very polite tantrums when she wants something because SHE IS A CHILD.
Gene Wilder's charisma is disarming here, but I must remember that this is a tenor and therefore capable of anything (opera joke, for my non-opera followers). He still smiles placidly and quotes as children are hurt, so I have no sympathy even if his acting was the best part.
"You can eat anything in this room! Wait, not that, I never told you and will do nothing when you are hurt because of it!"
Bodyshaming! How fun! Making fun of a young, adorable kid's looks!
Literal tunnel of horrors with flashes of insects crawling on people and dead animals. Seriously, what the fairfax? This is a kids' film!
"No! Don't eat that! I will not explain why until you are actually harmed and it's too late!"
These are kids. Kids don't always follow rules, especially when they don't understand why the rules are there.
This is where I started really, really hating the Oompa Loompa songs. They're incredibly annoying somehow.
Veruca might be throwing a tantrum, but she is very cute and a good singer. At least the song has the decency to put the blame on her upbringing, but then why should she be hurt? Someone could have stopped her at any time before she endangered herself.
My dad noticed there were only four suits at the entrance to the very creepy TV room. Which seems to mean the accidents were planned.
And here we have an absolutely egregious case. Mike does not activate the device himself, he stands on the pedestal and the operator knowingly presses the button! THIS WAS NOT HIS FAULT THEY INTENTIONALLY HARMED HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That last song personally offends me. "Television makes you stupid"??? I grew up on nature and science documentaries. I was quoting David Attenborough to my parents as a toddler. I'm sure educational TV existed back then in some form, at least?
Joe's indignation at being told off for breaking the rules is just ridiculous. You did it knowingly! You've seen how harsh this man is! Yes, Charlie only strayed at your instigation, but he could have refused, couldn't he?
And we fly into space inside a Dalek. The end.
Oh yeah, the songs? This barely counts as a musical.
Opening number was okay, if rather meaningless lyrically.
I remember nothing of the mother's lullaby thing, literally zoned out while she was singing it.
Golden ticket song a bit more fun but lyrics could still use work.
Pure Imagination, the only one I knew going in, was a bit disappointing in this rendition. Wilder's lovely voice is not at fault, the arrangement didn't grab me.
I've stated my opinion on the "making normal kids out to be monstrous" songs already.
And the one child who gets a song to herself? Okay, that I liked. It was fun.

Here, take these miscellaneous headcanons I have for if the seven main pets were human that I thought of at like 2am.
I hope you enjoy.
-Pepper's a smoker, and she does it more often when she's stressed out, causing the icky smell when she's nervous. She tries not to when Vinnie's around, because he has asthma.
-As stated in the hc before, Vinnie has asthma. He has a bad habit of forgetting to use his inhaler(s), which has led to plenty of asthma attacks, usually caused by overexerting himself while dancing. Russell always carries an extra, emergency inhaler for him, and he keeps a "make sure Vinnie uses his inhaler" checkbox on his checklist.(and yes, he does call him every morning to remind him.)
-Sunil likes to wear dresses, skirts, makeup, etc. He simply likes to feel pretty sometimes, and he's comfortable enough in his masculinity to do so without shame. Zoe absolutely loves to give him tips on outfits and makeup, and they've become super close because of it.
-Russell has a super long playlist consisting of only folk music. He plays it when he does deep cleaning in his house.
-Out of all the movies they've watched together, Vinnie and Sunil's favorite is 'Killer Klowns From Outer Space'. They can oftentimes be heard quoting the movie. ("ANOTHER DOOR!?") Vinnie's favorite Klown is Shorty, and Sunil's favorite is Rudy. They watch it every Halloween as tradition.
-Minka is an absolute indestructible force in laser tag. Not even Russell's strategic plans are enough to defeat her. If they're playing in teams, everyone tries to convince her to be on their side, but if they're playing solo? Every single person is teaming up against her(they rarely succeed)
-Vinnie has a few piercings; he has a labret, tongue, both nostrils, and multiple ear piercings (double helix and a conch on his left ear and an industrial on the right). His jewelry is mostly green, black and silver. Penny has a septum piercing, and she wears a lot of super cute jewelry on it, mostly clickers. Zoe has a navel piercing. Her favorite jewelry is silver with a baby blue gemstone in it. (This is definitely projection bc I have a lil bit of a piercing addiction bUT-)
-Pepper has a playlist full of the most horrendous songs known to man. Half of them aren't even songs, they're just voice clips of some guy screaming with faint music in the background. After many times torturing the others with this, she's lost access to the AUX cord.
-Yes, Penny does listen to upbeat, cute pop music a lot. But she's also a huge fan of hard rock and other similar genres. She's also capable of screaming, which shocked everyone during karaoke night, because she usually defaults to softer music out of fear of judgment.
-Adding onto the hc above, I firmly believe that Minka, Vinnie and Sunil would also listen to similar ish music.(once I figure out specifics I'll elaborate further)
-Every year, they go to the local fair. Russell and Sunil spend a lot of time looking at the clothes and crafts at booths, Pepper spends too much money on fair games, Penny gets emotionally attached to every farm animal she sees, Zoe's probably flirting back and forth with some guy at one of the food stands, and both Minka and Vinnie have whiplash from being tossed around violently on some ride that should've been shut down for safety violations. It's absolutely chaotic, and they always have the best time.(I might eventually do a full headcanon post for this one, or even write a short fanfic. Depends on inspiration i guess)
Zoe will video chat people in the middle of the night just to gossip or something, but no one's ever doing anything normal when they pick up. She's witnessed so much concerning and potentially illegal stuff while on these calls, but she's genuinely so unfazed at this point that it doesn't register as concerning anymore. Vinnie just burned his eyebrows off because he tried to bleach them? That's normal. Minka just stole a street sign for some abstract art project? Completely fine.
I hope these are enjoyable. I may or may not add onto this later 😭

Different? Better?
The adventure with the 1990s high end tube amp goes on.
There is good, and there is bad. Clearing away the bad issue is it will cost money to keep this beastie running. The good is it has the seductive sound of the vacuum to tempt and to tease me. Such a tease.
Last night I played 4 albums. The result was interesting.
The first one was my original copy of "I Robot" Alan Parson's Project. It sounded really good. AP was a recording engineer of great talent and is responsible for Dark Side of the Moon among many others. If you are familiar with that you can appreciate that the mixes are complex and deep and leave much to be untangled. If you are a detail geek as I am it is required listening. Lots of fun.
Next up was a "special" I found in my densely packed hoard of LPs. It is on the Wilson Audiophile label titled Center Stage.
Tumblr media
It has an amazing back story and provenance. It was commissioned by Absolute Sound Magazine and the recording engineers, and mastering gurus are a who's who of the high end. Everything custom and tweaked. They even note the tape preservative used. Yes tape and pure analog full on. Should be great right?
I know TAS used it to evaluate equipment and crown the winners of that month's SOTA awards.
I may have mentioned that you can have great music recorded well or poorly. You can have great recordings of good or poor music. Bad recordings of bad music stay in the bin where they belong. Some things are doomed to be test records and this is one of those.
In the full golden ear style of reviewing I will note my equipment. The Phase Linear 8000 series 2 tangential tracking TT with an AT7V cartridge front end. Preamp is the ARC SP-14 with 50 pf load on the phono, and the Amp is the ARC Classic 60. Speakers are my own "invisible speakers" bass reflex in lovely birch plywood cabinets.
The music was movie and Broadway tunes played by horns and woodwinds with percussion. Basically a symphony orchestra without any strings. There was good space and I am a full on fan of how drums are portrayed. They are big deep and with amazing texture. Horns let you show off lots of audiophile type tricks. But the music was BORING. After two cuts I could not help but think if I hear another John Williams tune I will throw up. No FN imagination just quotes of everyone from Brahms to Stravinsky.
This is big loud music, and I was falling asleep droogs. I played both sides and yes the technical production is full on high end, but this goes back in the heap for a long time. Just not fun.
Since I was bored I decided to pull up "Year of the Cat" Mofi which I have talked about before. Wonderful recording of the most boring singer in history. Now this was interesting.
With the Franken-Amp this is broad and front row and deep with really really good clear sound. With the tuber it was almost muffled. Mr Stewart was pushed back a few yards and there was fog or smoke around him. ( not literally just an audible fuzziness thing ) I could still hear it clearly and all the parts were sharp and good. The guitar was very nice and metallic. The treble was really good. This is a Mofi after all. But the perspective of the mix was far different. I was in full on WTF mode. I bet it was mixed in a studio with all Solid State gear.
Very different, but not better.
OK one more then I have to shut it down. Emmylou Harris "Quarter moon...." I just got a Mofi used record from a cool shop a 5 hour drive away. There was some groove noise like dirt, they said they had ultrasonically cleaned it. Under the noise the recording was very nice. Actually a bit of discwasher brushing cleaned it up noticeably. I suppose the mix is simpler and cleaner so the sound was as I recall it before no big changes.
One thing and I will come back to it again. There is a background singer with a really cool tone to her voice. She is there, but not as easy to separate out as I recall. That may be the mix as Mofi does fiddle it's masters, or it may be the tuber. I have the original vanilla disk right in the milk crate there. I will check it.
[ Update: I did check it next day. The original disc was much clearer and the other singer was very easy to distinguish and understand. So did Mofi remix it and mess it up a bit? Interesting that the old copy sounded just as good as the mofi. Old master tape copy perhaps?]
In a related thing I ordered a set of the driver tubes. (EHX Russian). Far cheaper than a full set of 6550s and likely 30 years old. I want to pull the covers for a peak and will throw those in. It is a lot of bother to do so. I need some things to do in there aside from look. I will also check the bias of the output tubes. I will also scope some capacitors on the PC board that can go funny. There are 4 electrolytics there that are not power supply related and are known to be vulnerable. Just to risk my life you know. I gave up motorcycles decades ago.
The Amp does help warm the room and there was frost on the car this morning.
Cheers to all.

Holy shit. I'm done in. This was epic. I'm so glad posting it all together won in the polls. To break that up would have been criminal.
The structure of this was fantastic, I've said the same thing about a previous chapter I think, but it paced the story so well. Building up to her arriving at the trailer while simultaneously taking us through her being at the trailer, it created such suspense. Her staying the night at Eddie's being broken up by the lead up to, and then the actual date, kept it from being too much though, like little pauses of slushy goodness to combat the angst. There were a lot of time jumps but I found it easy to keep track of what point we were at.
The date. I loved it. Couldn't stop smiling. Them both freaking out getting ready 'why the hell do people let him walk out of the house like this?!' I snorted at that whole section 🤣 the bickering over music and the Shrek reference were hilarious but his reaction to her teasing and flirting was my favourite part. the hand holding in the van! I nearly expired. that date in theory should have completely tanked. both of them rushing from other plans, creepy old men, the hideout in general, but it worked so well! Them being so into eachother has overridden any scetchy date locations.
Wayne! I'm so happy they met, I like when he's a bit standoffish with Eddie's love interest in fics, at first at least. He's not used to many people being nice to Eddie, so the drill is to be protective from the get go. Especially with that he knows of their history. But then they make Eddie cook the pancakes and sass him the entire time 😍 absolute gold.
Urgh then her dad. Feels like he needs his own essay to deconstruct everything wrong there. He's interesting in this though, because it's not as simple as just 'good' and 'bad' people. Good people do bad stuff sometimes and vice versa, it's hard figuring out which way round people are sometimes. Like he sees himself as a good person for not leaving, not hitting her, pushing her for good grades and college, and doesn't see his emotional detachment, cruel words and punishments as being a 'bad' person. It's so sad that parents see their children as just an extension of themselves and everything comes back to how it affects them or how they are seen. Seems very narcissistic. Although his teeny tiny reaction to her words imply that there's something there, maybe of who he used to be, or who he could be, but refuses to explore it like Eddie is doing. That Harry potter quote about our choices defining us comes to mind. Her dad isn't choosing to try and change anything, whereas Eddie is.
Chrissys redemption arc remained fully intact and she was major comic relief at times in this, the 'get real, Eddie's probably wearing that t-shirt he doddled on with markers' line got me 🤣 and stopping the kiss, then her bickering with Eddie later on for the suprise date. 'just give me my food' yes Chrissy. you eat that burger. And then her being completely oblivious to 90% of what's gone down between them, and still hitting the nail on the head. She's great.
But obviously my favourite thing thoughout the whole chapter was the build up of love. It's like he's completely dismissive of it at first with the strike through text. But then it's becoming harder to ignore, finally coming to a head right as he thinks she's leaving him. When she goes to him at the lake, that whole section was gorgeous. He's come so far, he's just accepting so readily that she's going, the Eddie from the beginning of this fic would have been pleading and manipulating and trying anything at his disposal to keep her. And her reaction, her cashing in on him making it up to her. Really beautiful.
And then the thing through this whole chapter of 'being ok' Eddie asking her at the start and her being anything but. And then him being far from ok himself being heartbroken over how she's been treated and the college news. They both say to eachother 'its ok' for situations and past actions that really aren't. But by the end they really are.
I'm so sad it's all over, loved this so much and really had to edit myself on not commenting on every tiny detail (her calling him mean so many times this chapter when it's the least mean he's been this entire time 🤣) stuff like that! Loved reading and commenting on this so thank you for sharing, so glad I found your blog 🖤🖤
I love you *literally screaming* You were one of the first people to comment on chapter one when I was new to writing, and ever since then, I have anticipated your thoughts every time I update, because you are quite literally one of the only people who gives me commentary on my series! AND I LOVE IT! You are a writers’ favorite type of reader, and I hope you know that. I’ve seen you give your thoughts on other writers’ fics, and it’s such an incredible feeling seeing someone take genuine interest in our work. Your commentary is heavily appreciated to me and this fandom!
I’m so happy people were okay with it being a long read, because I was panicking wondering if it was too much, but I’m so glad you and everyone else enjoyed it!
Thank you so much for the structural feedback, I was a bit hesitant with it, thinking it may have been too confusing, but hearing your thoughts, it’s great knowing that it provided some relief from the angst. I was heavily focused on the buildup of the story, and mapping out the events that lead to the catalyst of the story was my main goal, and I’m so happy it worked out!
And the date! It was literally one of my favorite parts to write. Getting to see their dynamic when it wasn’t revolved around their personal issues was so comforting to delve into. Particularly knowing how bad the setting was, but seeing them triumph through, because moments like that are so scarce for them- ugh! And I got the idea of reader meeting Wayne from you! You had suggested it after chapter five, and I fell in love with the idea, so all credits to you! Thank you so much! If anyone has seen “The Notebook,” the scene where Allie meets Noah’s dad is exactly what I was going for. Just that homey vibe.
And meeting Wayne would end up opening reader’s eyes to how much she just yearned for a great relationship with her father. I really wanted to show how something so simple, like wanting to eat dinner together, could transpire into a huge argument, because of how strained the relationship is. And thank you for picking up on his subtle emotions, it was so important! Her father’s ego has essentially tainted everything for them. I wanted people to see how different their forms of love are; reader desperately wants the little things, and her father believes superficial support, like basic care, is enough. But because he refuses to believe he’s in the wrong, it ultimately destroys them. But, of course, there’s still an underlying love for her, it’s his daughter, he’d just rather be right. I loved your comments on that!
And we love our best friend Chrissy over here! A pure friendship between teenage girls was heavily needed, and Chrissy truly provided that support. Her and Eddie working together for reader, because they love her is everything!
And truly, I cannot thank you enough for paying attention to the minor details. They played a big part in the buildup to their relationship, especially the question of “being okay.” The whole journey was them realizing the severity of their mental and situational state, and going through the path of finding happiness.
Again, I can’t say it enough, thank you so much! You and everyone else have been so kind with the feedback, and I’m so glad people like you enjoy my work enough to share your thoughts!

i'm sorry but idk what orpheus and eurydice are could you explain please? 🥺👉👈
oh, of course!
Orpheus and Eurydice are a Greek myth, though they're canonized in literature in several plays/novels/accounts by Greek and Latin writers, and modern ones. My favorite is Virgil's Georgics Book IV, which has a poem about them and a beekeeper (highly, highly recommend reading it, in this one the beekeeper's bees have died because of a curse to punish him as he wrongly killed Eurydice, which is just one of the scenarios for her death that we see in mythology! the translation i've linked by A. S. Kline has some absolutely gorgeous prose).
but they're one of my favorite mythological couples ever because they have a beautifully, tragically poetic story: Orpheus is a musician, and Eurydice is his wife. The myths vary on exactly how, but Eurydice dies one day and Orpheus, fiercely grieving and unable to live without her, endeavors to go to the Underworld and bring her back (a feat no mortal has ever achieved). He plays music lamenting his loss as he descends into the Underworld, and it's so beautiful and moving that none of the monsters attack him, and even Persephone, the goddess of the dead, is moved by his love. Therefore, Hades and Persephone say that he can take Eurydice back with him to the living world--if he leads her up without ever once looking back to make sure she's really there.
Orpheus gets almost all the way to the top, the entire time nagged by the fear that she's not actually there, that the footsteps he hears are his imagination, and when he's almost at the entrance--he can see the sunlight--the temptation is too much and he looks back. Just in time to see her standing there, but he looked back and so she's lost to the Underworld once more. And then, in true mythological fashion, he cries himself to death by a river/lake (the details are a bit vague in my memory here 😆).
the last bit of the story (the ascent back to the world of the living with Eurydice behind him, and particularly the last look back) is referenced many times in literature throughout the ages bc it's such a powerful scene, and there's a lot of different interpretations on why he looked back--because he couldn't bear not to know if he had her a second longer, because he loved her too much, because he'd already passed into the real world and she hadn't, but he didn't realize and so it was a mistake etc etc.
they're deeply tragic, but one of my absolute favs because their entire story is shaped by the depth of their love for each other. There's a quote from a play about them by Sarah Ruhl that I adore bc several interpretations show Eurydice's forgiveness amongst her grief when she's taken back, because she knows he only turned bc he loved her.
Orpheus: How will you remember?
Eurydice: That I love you?
Orpheus: Yes.
Eurydice: That’s easy. I can’t help it.
Eurydice - Sarah Ruhl
that was probably a LOT longer of an explanation than you wanted lolll 😂
i love them and they've got some major jily vibes--tell me James Potter wouldn't go the underworld for his wife, and his greatest flaw (and ultimate downfall) wouldn't be his love for her--and one day I'll write an actual, takes-place-in-ancient-greece, sticks-to-the-myth retelling of them as Orpheus and Eurydice! (gotta put my classics education to use somewhere 😌)
dear lily evans...i love you is canon compliant 7th year (ish. it’s a no voldemort au!) so it doesn’t have any of the actual storyline of the myth, but the vibes and emotion of Orpheus and Eurydice are definitely there! ❤️🥰
