that bitch.
i stared at rory intensely as she flirted with jess. she was always touching his arm, throwing her head back as she laughed at his jokes with a little too much enthusiasm. she stared at him with her clear-blue eyes; those stunning eyes that made me jealous because whenever i saw him look at her. it was obvious he liked her.
although he promised me many times that he didn’t, i just didn’t believe him. i mean, look at her. admittedly, i look hotter, but she was the type of pretty that could trap guys forever.
i looked back at my book, sipping my iced coffee. i tried to focus on the words, but my eyes kept re-reading the same sentence as i couldn’t help but hear rory and jess’s conversation.
“jess! you’re gonna get in trouble!” her giggle made my blood boil.
“chill, ror. luke won’t know,” jess replied back.
“ror”; that stupid nickname he’s had for her since day one. it made my body twitch.
“what about y/n?” rory then asked.
my head couldn’t help but perk up at the sound of my name, especially with her voice wrapped around it.
i turned my head, my eyes scanning over the two. jess was leaning forward in his chair, his face just inches away from hers. her hand was on his forearm that was bare from his sleeves being rolled up. the way her fingers curled around his arm made my heart sink to my stomach. was he really that oblivious?
“i don’t think she’ll care. and if she does, then that’s her problem,” he said.
i bit my bottom lip in confusion and anger. tears welled up in my eyes and i had to force myself to look away. i wiped the tears away roughly, taking a big gulp of my coffee before shutting my book.
i got up and went to the bathroom, avoiding any and all eye contact with jess and rory. as soon as i got to the bathroom, i adjusted my outfit. i was wearing a blue and yellow plaid skirt, a ribbed crop-top, with white sneakers.
i started with pulling my shirt down. it was a v-neck, so it was easier for my boobs to show. i pushed them out against my bra so they sat pretty. i pulled my skirt up, turning around and smiling as i saw that my underwear could almost be seen. i took out my lipgloss from my purse, smacking it onto my lips to make them glisten. i fixed up my eyeliner, stepping back to view myself.
i looked like a hooker, but i hoped it would get jess’s attention away from rory for a few seconds. it’s not like we were exclusively dating, but there was definitely something there and i wasn’t going to lose him to ms. stars hallow.
i walked out of the bathroom, swinging my hips as i put my purse back on my shoulder. i shot a quick look to jess, whose eyes were wide and jaw dropped to the floor. rory looked me up and down, a surprised and disgusted look on her face. i shot her a petty smile, challenging her with my brows before i looked away.
i went back to my table, grabbing my iced coffee to-go and my book. i strutted out of the cafe, going over to dean’s house. i walked the couple of blocks, making sure my shirt was low enough before i knocked on the door.
it swung open immediately, revealing a surprised, but pleased dean.
“hey y/n, what’re you doin’ here?” he asked.
“just wanted to see how my favorite star hallows high schooler is doing?” i grinned.
“well, i’m doing okay, thank you. how are you?” he asked.
“oh, i’m good.” i put my hands behind my back, arching it so my tits were practically in his face.
his eyes wandered down slowly, his jaw dropping at the same speed. his eyes went back up to my face where he was met with my teasingly biting my lip with a smile.
“you look uh, great, by the way.”
“thank you, i try. anyways, i was wondering if you wanted to hang out? we can watch a movie, walk around town, get something to eat? i’ve only had coffee today,” i suggested.
“yeah, yeah, sure. let me get my wallet,” he nodded. “you can come in. i’ll be back.”
i stepped into his house, standing in the entry way.
“you don’t have to pay, you know. i’m a big girl,” i said to him as he walked back.
“i know, but what kind of man would i be if i didn’t pay for the beautiful woman standing in front of me,” he grinned.
i looked down shyly, my lips forming into a coy smile.
“oh, dean, you’re too kind.”
“it’s the truth. anyways, shall we go? we can walk or i can drive,” he suggested.
“mmm,” i hummed, “why don’t we drive? it’s really hot outside.”
“i second that,” he chuckled. he shut his door, locking it before walking down the steps to his car.
i followed him and climbed into the passenger seat of his truck.
“where to?” he asked once he started to car.
“let’s go to the diner,” i said.
“copy that,” he nodded, shifting the gears into drive.
“so, how’s your sister doing?” i asked. “clara is good. how are your parents doing?” he asked.
“ol’ mom and pops are good,” i answered.
“good to hear,” he shot me a smile. i returned it. “how about your mom?”
“eh,” he shrugged, “still working late and stuff.”
“well, it’s glad clara has her big brother to take care and look out for her.” i put my hand on his leg, squeezing it.
he looked at me, smiling widely. he then looked back on the road, his smile forming into a smirk.
“that shirt’s really low,” he stated.
“oh, now you say something?” i scoffed. “what? i was trying to be polite,” he shrugged.
“you’re always polite, dean. i never need to worry about that,” i said.
“good, i try,” he mimicked my words from earlier. “so,” he added, “who is this outfit for?”
“what? a girl can’t look hot just for herself?” i frowned.
“well, yes, she can, but your motives are always plotted towards a certain delinquent.”
i sighed, “you caught me.”
he chuckled, “i knew you didn’t just want to hang out.”
“i do! i really do. i just… thought i could kill two birds with one stone.”
“and that stone is you going to the diner, and the two birds are jess and i?” he asked.
“bingo! man, you are so smart. how does rory not like you?” i grinned.
he sighed, “beats me. it seems like every girl has fallen for that asshole.”
“awe, is someone jealous?” i asked in a baby voice. “admittedly, yes. it’s hard going from the “it, new guy” to “old new,” he explained.
“i thought tristan was the “it” guy?” i teased. “nah, not since i’ve arrived,” he grinned.
“well, what a good title you upheld. i wish that was my case,” i sighed.
“hey, rory might be star’s hallows baby, but you’re stars hallows woman. you don’t take anyone’s crap, you’re extremely proactive about the issues in this town, and you’re the hottest girl who lives here,” he listed.
“well,” i pulled a satisfied smile, “one can only be so amazing.”
“exactly! see, don’t worry over rory. everyone only loves her because they love lorelei, and sure, lorelei was a big change for this place, but you’ve been more impactful. rory doesn’t even like most people in this town, but you do. no offense to rory, though.”
“thank you, dean, i’d like to say the same thing about you. jess is dangerous, annoying, and rude. i know for a fact the only reason why rory likes him is because he lets her do whatever. but you, you’re caring, handsome, and aren’t a goody two-shoes, but you’re different and have an interesting family life and background. if rory doesn’t appreciate that, then i don’t know what will.”
he gave me a grateful smile. “thank you.”
“of course. it’s all true.” i looked out the window as we approached stars hallow downtown. i slapped my hand in dean’s chest, jumping in my seat. “slow down, slow down!” i rolled the windows down, sitting up right and puffing my chest out in a normal manner. “put your hand on my thigh,” i nudged dean.
“aye, aye, captain,” he sighed. his hand gripped my thigh softly and i smiled at him, thanking him with my eyes.
“all this work for a guy who won’t even call you his girlfriend,” he remarked.
i frowned. “yeah, well, i don’t see you trying to change rory’s mind while you bitch about your problems.”
he averted his gaze, focusing on the road. i turned back to the window, giving a smile as we strolled past jess. his mouth was agape in shock and disapproval. his eyes wandered across my body, stopping right at my thigh. i smirked as his hands balled into fists and he stomped away, throwing the newspaper he had in his hand into the trash.
“mission accomplished,” i clapped. dean’s hand slid off my thigh. “why don’t you just talk to him? isn’t that what adults do?” he asked.
“okay, one, i am sixteen. two, this is just how it’s always been. i like the chase, he likes the game. it always ends up good.”
“yeah, until the next morning when he’s gone and you’re cold and alone.”
i frowned deeply and looked down at my lap. “yeah, well, it’s like the next morning is something to look forward to under any circumstances.”
“yes, it is. it’s the time where you get to spend time with your significant other, cuddle and make breakfast. talk about your plans for the day, fall in love with her all over again.”
i looked over to dean, my brows raised. i smiled as he was daydreaming about him and rory.
“you’ll get that with her one day,” i said. “thanks,” he snapped out of his daze, parking next to the diner.
we both got out and i intertwined pur hands together as we walked to the diner, eliciting a chuckle out of dean. i smiled at him and looked ahead, my eyes finding their way to jess who was doing his job at the diner.
we walked in and got a table, jess immediately coming over to us to take our order.
“hey, jess,” i smiled brightly at him. he frowned, death glaring dean. “what can i get started for you today?” he asked with a clenched jaw.
“i think i’ll have a cheese burger, onion rings, and water, please. for you, babe?” i looked over to dean.
“uh, uh, i’ll have a double cheeseburger with fries and a coke, thanks,” he ordered, giving me a brief smile.
my eyes glanced over to jess. he was writing quickly and angrily on his notepad.
“coming right up.” he kept the frown on his face. he stomped away, going into the back to give ceaser the order.
“really tryin’, huh?” dean snorted. “i’m making progress, i swear,” i said.
“he’ll probably tell you to screw off more than fuck you,” he said.
“same difference,” i shrugged. “you’re going to lose him before you even get him,” he remarked.
i ignored his statement, sitting back in my chair and looking around the diner. i smirked as rory strolled in with lorelei.
“golden girl at twelve o’clock,” i stated.
dean’s head turned quickly and i could see the day dreaming begin to commence.
“you’re catching flies, man.” i nudged his foot under the table.
his head swung back to me, his face going pink. “whatever.”
i giggled, but then frowned immediately as i saw rory talking to jess again. he seemed to be the ones making the moves today.
“looks like your planned worked, good job,” dean chortled.
i kicked his ankle, eliciting a yelp from him. jess’s eyes shot over to us and he gave me a smile before turning back to rory.
two can play at that game.
i looked around, smirking as i found ryan, one of the boys from school. i got up and strutted over to him, “accidentally” dropping my purse.
“oh, damn!” i exclaimed, bending over to pick it up.
i eyed ryan as his jaw dropped, and jess, who was now death-glaring me. i smirked, picking up my purse and turning to ryan.
“sorry, ry, i’m just so clumsy sometimes,” i sighed exasperatedly.
“o-oh, no worries. be clumsy whenever you want,” he laughed nervously.
“i think i’ll take that offer,” i grinned. “mind if i sit?” i asked, pointing to the seat across front from him.
“no, not at all,” he shook his head vigorously.
“great!” i grinned, sitting down with a bounce.
ryan’s eyes followed my boobs as they moved. i leaned forward, pressing my arms together in a natural, but suggestive way. my tits were about spilling out of my shirt now.
“so, ry, how have you been?” i asked, taking a fry and biting it.
“good, how about yourself?” he asked.
“pretty good. except, i’ve been kind of… restless lately,” i frowned. i lowered my face, looking at him with puppy dog eyes. “think you could help me?”
he swallowed hard, nodding excitedly again.
“lovely,” i smiled. i took his hand, placing it under the table and onto my thigh where jess could see. i then ran it up my bare skin. i faked a shiver running down my spine, knowing that only jess wanted to make me feel this way. as ryan’s hands went under my skirt, jess left the front of the counter, his hand suddenly gripping my shirt and pulling me up.
“you’re coming with me,” he hissed my ear.
i tried to hide the excitement on my face, but i failed as dean mouthed a “have fun”. i let myself get dragged by him. he dragged me up the stairs, closing the door to luke’s loft. he threw me on the mattress on the floor that was his bed. my body molded to cushion; i had been here many times.
“you wanna act like a fucking whore in front of the whole diner?” he questioned.
i gave him a grin and nodded.
“fine.” he went down to his knees in front me. “i’ll make sure they hear you then, too.”
and with that, his hands ripped off my skirt. i gasped, shooting him a glare.
“that was new!”
“looked better on my floor than on you, anyways,” he shrugged.
i scoffed, but the sound quickly turned into a breathy moan as he ran his fingers over my panties.
“soaked and i haven’t even touched you until now? wow, pathetic.”
i stared at him. “ryan touching me got me pretty hot and bothered.”
he glared at me again, his body towering over mine as he went to whisper in my ear.
“ryan got you all hot and bothered, huh?” his hot breath fanned over my skin.
i nodded, giving him a cheery “mhm.”
his fingers hooked to my underwear, sliding it down my thighs and throwing it to the side. i quickly spread my legs, the ache in my stomach becoming too much. jess didn’t dive in, though. he just chuckled at my actions, the pads of his fingers tracing my inner thighs and just below my belly button.
“ryan get you this hot and bothered?” he asked as my chest was heaving up and down, my hips bucking up slightly in desperation.
i shook my head from side to side, my pleas forming into whines.
“i-i was just kidding jess, please.”
“awe, now that the princess doesnt get what she wants, she begs for it? takes her words back? i don’t think you can, baby.”
“please, jess!” i exclaimed. i went to grab his wrist to move it down, but he was faster. it grabbed my hand, looking me in the eyes. i pouted as he stared at me.
“how about dean?” he asked.
“n-no,” i shook my head.
he let go of my hand, bringing his own back to draw circled right above my entrance. i let out a high-pitched whine, bucking my hips up again. after a few moments of teasing me, without warning, he plunged two fingers into my heat.
“ah!” i squealed, the knot in my belly being met with satisfaction.
“fuck — you’re really wet,” he rasped. “yeah, dean really knows how to make a girl flustered,” i remarked.
his hazel eyes shot up to mine, his brows furrowing in anger. “keep that up and i’ll kick you out.”
my mouth clamped shut and i pouted. “but -”
“no buts, baby. now, tell me, could dean really make you this wet? could he really make you feel this good?”
his fingers curled inside of me, pumping in and out of me at a fast, constant speed. his fingers brushed up against my g-spot, causing my back to arch and a loud moan to fill my throat. my words came out sputtered as i tried to answer him.
“use your words, sweetheart,” he whispered into my ear.
“n-no,” i shook my head. “only you can do this to me. only you can make me feel s-so good.” i mewled as his thumb reached up and circled my clit.
“that’s what i love to hear.” i could hear the smirk in his voice.
he then attached his lips to my neck, his teeth harshly nipping at my skin. i let out a few “ah, ohs”, my hands making their way to his head. my fingers tangled themselves in his chestnut locks, twirling the ends. i pulled at the back of his head as he sucked heavily on my skin.
“j-jess,” i breathed. “mm?” he hummed as he kept sucking.
“you’re go-gonna leave a-a hickey.”
his tongue licked over the bruise he made, kissing it tenderly. he licked a trail up to my ear, nibbling on the skin below it lightly. “good. now everyone will know you’re mine.”
butterflies exploded in my stomach as he slurred the word. i nodded in agreement, bringing my head to look at him. his eyes were staring into mine, admiring the way my face scrunched up in pleasure. as i felt the pit in my stomach fill, he suddenly took his fingers out of me. i let out a whine of disapproval, looking up at him and pouting. my pout turned into a smile as i saw him taking off his clothes.
i sat up on my knees, taking off my shirt and bra. i helped him with slipping his shirt off, quickly throwing it to the side. i hooked my fingers under his jeans and underwear, shoving them down his thighs, causing him to chuckle.
“eager, are we?”
“you have no idea,” i shook my head. “good. me, too,” he disgarded his clothes.
i laid back down, spreading my legs and looking at him provocatively.
“gorgeous, as always.” he smiled at me, coming between my legs and lining him up with my entrance.
he gave me no warnings before diving in. i took in a sharp breath, my nails digging into his shoulder blades. he started moving fast, moans and groans coming out of both our mouths.
“you feel so good,” he grunted.
i replied with a breathy moan, the back of my head digging into my pillow. i squeezed my eyes shut as he hit the spot with every thrust.
“could ryan fuck you this good?” he asked lowly.
“n-no,” i shook my head. “could dean hit the spot each time?” he breathed out.
“no,” i said, then looked him in the eyes. i pulsated around him as i spoke. “could rory ever fit around your dick this well? could she ever make you feel the way i make you feel?”
he slowed his movements as he looked into my eyes. the chemistry was thick, intoxicating. i could barely breathe.
“never,” he answered.
i smiled, my heart soaring. “good.”
he smiled back, his hips then snapping into its usual rhythm. my question seemed to spark something in him. jess put my right leg on his shoulder, the new angle letting him pound inside of me impossibly deeper. he fucked me faster and harder, the tip of his dick brushing my cervix. not enough to hurt, but definitely enough to make me squirm and scream. my throat went dry as i started to chant his name and other profanities.
his right hand held himself up as his left came up to my breast, taking my nipple and playing with it in-between his third finger and thumb.
“jess, ah! ah, fuck. please, please,” i started to beg.
his lips curled up into a smirk and he squeezed my whole breast, the action causing my hips to jolt up. he dove his head down, replacing his hand with his mouth. his warm tongue lapped around my sensitive bud, his teeth pulling at it lightly.
i didn’t even feel his hand go down my stomach until i felt pressure on my clit. tears started to well up in my eyes, my nails raking down his back. he hissed, but didn’t stop.
“too much, too much,” i shook my head vigorously.
my body squirmed under him, my walls clenching around his dick, making him moan once more.
“you can take it. i know you can. be a good girl for me, yeah? i know you’re about to come,” he spoke, lifting his head up from my breast.
i nodded, my lungs breathless. my head rolled back and my foot that was on the bed curled and stomped on the mattress helplessly. my fingers dug into his neck, pulling violently on his hair.
my orgasm washed over me in one breath-taking wave. my back arched for the last time, my eyes rolling to the back of my head.
jess’s thrusts and hand movements got sloppy. he came inside of me, filling me with hot spurts. we both let out our last moans, the room falling silent. our chests heaved up and down as we laid next to each other.
i laid there for a few moments before i went to the bathroom to get cleaned up. after i came out, jess was sitting in a chair with only sweats and a book in his hand. i chuckled. typical jess.
i got dressed, going to the door to leave.
“hey, wait,” he said, getting up. he grabbed my hand to stop me from leaving. he looked in my eyes, making my heart jump.
“i love you,” he smiled. “wanna be my girlfriend?”
my face interrupted into a grin. i squeezed his hand, nodding my head. “yes, yes!”
“great. i’ll pick you up at eight for our first official date.”
“great.” i leaned up and pecked him on the lips. i whispered an “i love you”, making him grin from ear-to-ear. i bid him goodbye, running downstairs.
as i stepped into the diner, i giggled as i saw dean and rory kissing. they stopped for a second, rory blushing and dean smiling proudly. i gave him a wink, offering rory a kind smile, to which she returned.
i walked back home, taking a shower so i could get ready for our date. as i waited for the water to warm, i spotted the hickey he made on my neck. it was purple, blue, and big. i ran my fingers over it, smiling.
“mine,” i echoed his words.

Saving Grace - JJ Maybank
A/N: A You Are Ok drabble set ten years in the future
You Are Ok Masterlist | Outer Banks Masterlist
✰ ✰ ✰ ✰ ✰
The Maybank house had sat empty on the cut for almost five years until JJ’s dad was released from prison. You and JJ had been down in Florida at the time, moved out of his cousin’s trailer and living in an apartment in the everglades. Talking about going home but unsure what the OBX had to offer at that point. It was barely two weeks after that when you both flew home, Luke Maybank had overdosed and the house was empty once again.
It stayed empty while the two of you gutted the entire place and refurbished it. While JJ and you stayed at the Chateau or Kiara’s place, while you found a job and found out you were pregnant, while JJ got a job for himself in the area and went back down to the everglades to empty out the apartment.
JJ laid the tile in the bathroom himself and fixed the plumbing. You painted the inside and outside of the house, planted a garden, bought a chicken coop. You and JJ moved in to the house and just like that you were back in the OBX.
-
You sat outside on the porch, drinking a cup of coffee despite the hour nearing eight o’clock at night. The baby monitor was sitting beside you, a soft gurgling coming from the receiver. You were waiting for the familiar sight of JJ’s truck pulling down the long driveway in the dusk. The headlights were already on, flashing on you for a moment as he parked and then cut off, the engine dying.
“Hey, what’re you doing out here?” He asked, climbing out of the front seat of the car and bringing a bag of chinese food with him.
“Waiting for you to bring me egg rolls?” You joke, before turning serious, “I saw my dad this morning, at the grocery store.”
“Did he see you?”
“Yeah...it was, really weird?” You suggested, reaching for the bag. JJ shook his head and held the bag away from you, a silent ‘I’ve got it’ as he leaned in and gave you a kiss. You wrinkled your nose at the familiar smell of fish as you pulled away, “how was work?”
“Alright...” he shrugged, “what did your dad say?”
“That he wants me to come to church on Sunday.” You replied, following him inside.
“You wanna go?” It was a question but the way he asked you knew that he already knew the answer.
“I mean...I’m not gonna like, start going to church with them every week and ya know, go back to how I was but...it might be nice. I do miss my family and, I want to have boundaries but maybe they don’t have to be like, huge ten-year silence boundaries where we never speak. I do want Willow to know her cousins; I think. What do you wanna do?” You asked, passing plates across the counter to him.
A tinny half cry sounded from the monitor on the table and you both turned to look over at it, waiting for a crescendo of cries that you’d grown used to in the last four months. When silence settled back in, you both seemed to exhale in relief. You wanted to eat and finish this conversation before JJ ultimately showered and fell asleep until Willow’s usual one a.m. wake up.
“Whatever you want.” He replied, never submitting to making the decision for you when you wanted him to. “Not exactly like your family’s a big of me.”
“Can’t imagine why,” you bumped his hip with your own, kissing his cheek. “Not like you totally corrupted their youngest daughter or anything.”
“Oh no, do not blame that on me.”
“I didn’t run away to marry myself.”
“If you go...” JJ posed, turning to follow you to the table, “do you want to go alone?”
-
You stood frozen in place, holding a box of cereal in your hand as you stared across the small expanse of Heyward’s shop, your dad there by the fresh produce, comparing two different apples with each other. The Outer Banks was a small island but you ran in very different circles and, in the three years that you’d been home, had avoided seeing your parents. Or anyone in your family.
You’d driven passed the baptist church, a sign boasting a new assistant pastor, one of your brothers, when you’d first moved back but hadn’t actually seen anyone. The possibility of seeing them again had been a long debate between you and JJ when you’d finally decided to leave Florida for North Carolina. It had been hard in the very beginning, missing birthdays and anniversaries and new babies, but over time the ache had dulled and you had shifted your attention away from what you were missing and focused on working through the things you could heal in yourself.
Now you were frozen. If you left your basket of groceries now you could make a beeline for the door and be out before he saw you. But then the bell above the door rattled as a customer came in and the baby swaddled against your chest started to fuss. Before you could attempt to placate her, your dad was looking over. For a moment you were certain he didn’t recognize you. Ten years was a long time. But then his mouth quirked into a frown and he set down the apples he was holding.
“Ace?” He questioned, the old nickname feeling foreign to you. It’d probably been ten years since anyone called you that.
“Hey, dad.” You nodded your head at him across the small store. You felt like tacking on a ‘surprise’ for good measure. ‘Surprise, I’m in the OBX, surprise, I got a kid...’
“When did you uh, when did you come home?” He moved across the store to be near you though he refrained from reaching out for a hug. You wondered if a decade had been just as hard on him as it had on you. Cathartic and healthy and freeing but hard. He seemed more mellow, you thought that before he might’ve pulled out a bible and started admonishing you.
“JJ and I moved back three years ago,” you admitted, slipping his name into the conversation as if to prove a point. “He got a job on a fishing rig.”
“Will you...would you come to church? We could have lunch afterward. Or you could just be there?” He offered. Ten years hadn’t changed his beliefs at all but it had made him miss you. Not knowing where you were or what you were doing felt like an ache in his chest that never went away. The anger had subsided to sadness and guilt.
-
Seeing your dad had been startling enough and you had almost wished, while you were standing there in Heyward’s, that JJ could’ve been with you. Though, you weren’t entirely sure that would’ve helped anything in the long run.
“I think my mom would probably be nicer to me if I brought Wills but maybe, I mean, my dad already saw her. He didn’t ask about her but maybe...” you groaned, burying your face in your hands for a moment as you tried to gather your thoughts. “Why didn’t we stay in Florida?”
“Cause we both spent seven years talking about how much we wanted to come back to the OBX...and my dad-”
“Jay.”
“Look. My dad was an asshole okay, he was a fucking nightmare but you know better than anyone that not getting to see him at the end...that was the worst call I’ve ever gotten in my life. Knowing Ricky was the only one up here and that he was alone. You should do whatever you want to do and I’ll be there, right next to you, just like I’ve been for ten years, but I don’t want you to have any regrets.” JJ replied, honestly.
You nodded, looking down at the plate of food and pushing your fried rice around. You knew that JJ was still hurting, that gutting a house didn’t take away all the memories that were trapped inside. “God I hate when you’re right.” You sighed.
“Don’t let your dad hear you talk like that.” He teased just as the monitor went off again, this time for real. You leaned against the back of the chair and groaned as JJ stood up. “I got it.”
“No, it’s okay, I’ll get her.” You stood too. “You need a shower, and sleep.”
“I haven’t seen her all day,” JJ pointed out, following you down the short hallway to the bedroom that used to be his. It was painted in yellows and oranges now, with a crib and a rocking chair and baby books. A sunset mural painted on the wall from Kiara’s girlfriend and a chandelier of stars from Sarah.
“What are you gonna do, take her in the shower with you?” You joked, lifting the fussing baby up out of her crib, “hey bubba, what’s the matter?”
“You have to feed her right? So feed her in the bathroom.”
“Oh sure, Jay, that’s super comfortable for me. I would love to feed her while I sit on the toilet.” You grumbled, already knowing that you would probably, definitely end up caving to him and doing exactly that.
“I’ll put dinner away and do the dishes.” He promised, “and I’ll punch you’ll dad if he says anything to piss you off.”

part one | my masterlist!
You skipped the after-party that night. You couldn’t bear standing in the same room as Luke and Rachel, so you booked a ride and left as soon as the car pulled up.
Had you stayed for the party, you would have crumbled under the looks of pity thrown at you by those who would have heard about what happened. The knowing looks that something bad had happened between two people everyone on the crew knew were best friends would have been uncomfortable.
The ride home is uncomfortably silent, but you were thankful the driver wasn’t the talkative type. The soft jazz playing on the radio wasn’t calming but it did distract you from the pain and embarrassment you felt from the argument.
Once the car had pulled up to your place, you bid a silent farewell to the driver and slid out.
You just wanted to get inside, take a shower, shut your phone for the night, and sleep until you physically can’t get any more sleep.
You’re not too surprised Luke stood up for his girlfriend. He does love her—he’s shown that with friends and with fans. But the way he glared at you, defended her without trying to find out what exactly went down…he had never looked at you like that.
You’ve seen that look before; it wasn’t something you were used to but it was the look he would give paparazzi when they would harass you, the guys, and his friends. The glare carried such strength that it would make people back off. And so when it was directed towards you, it struck you hard.
Having done what you wanted to do once you entered the house, you lay in bed with wet eyes staring at the ceiling. Your phone was face down on your nightstand, completely out of reach to the point one slight touch could knock it off.
Maybe you were the one at fault. Maybe you should’ve told the truth about your feelings to Rachel or Luke before this all happened. It could have prevented the fallout and you would be with the guys and the crew celebrating a successful show.
But what good would that have done? Had you told someone, anyone, that you liked Luke more than a best friend should, would that have caused the same problem but presented differently? Or would something come from it? Maybe nothing would have happened.
A sigh escapes your lips as you turn your back away from the nightstand, facing the empty half of the bed and before your mind drifts to more pitiful thoughts, you close your eyes.
You didn’t dream that night. It’s as if you blinked, with the night flying by faster than you had wanted and anticipated.
The sunlight beamed down on you from above your headboard. It was late morning and it was time to face the harsh reality of the day.
There is no doubt you have lost Luke as your best friend.
Wiping the sleep and crust from your eyes, you sit up and vacantly glance around the room. The box where you keep gifts from Luke is illuminated by the sunlight, and with the vacant stare you stand to walk towards it.
You hesitate to open it; it’ll bring back memories of good times and with the events of the previous night, you do not think you can handle the rush of emotions.
It’s then when you realize your phone was off, and though you don’t want to do anything social today and would rather stay home with your favorite snacks and shows, you know you have to let your friends know how you’re doing.
You stall by washing your face and brushing your teeth, albeit slower than usual. You know that once you turn your phone on, the onslaught of questions and missed calls are going to take possibly an hour to clear up.
Sure enough, as you turn your phone on, the missed messages come in, barely giving your notification tone a break and the missed calls and voicemails were coming in fast. You can feel the heat from the battery on your palm, and for the sake of the phone you switch the sound off and turn on Do Not Disturb to prevent any new calls from coming through.
The messages you saw were from the crew, asking where you went and if you were okay. Others were from the boys minus Luke, and looking through the missed calls, there was nothing from Luke.
You’re not surprised, but the pain was still simmering within and seeing no messages or missed calls from him was adding to it.
You responded to the crew’s messages first, since many of them sent one or two messages asking simple questions: “Are you okay,” “Where did you go,” and “Did you get home safe?”
Then you responded to the boys’, Michael’s first since he had the least amount of messages.
hey, you didn’t have to leave. we could’ve talked some sense into him when he calmed down (11:37pm)
did u get home okay? we know you didn’t drive here yourself. (11:58pm)
please let us know you made it home. let us know you’re okay (12:10am)
hope you made it home and that you’re safe and okay. thank u for ur work today. please text me when you see these. goodnight (12:49am)
You typed your reply to him, letting him know that you were okay and got home safe.
Calum’s messages were similar, asking the same questions but some were repeated to emphasize his worry. In response, you answered his questions like Michael’s.
But even before you can open Ashton’s messages, seeing double digits next to your conversation with him, rapid knocks on your front door grab your attention.
With a groan you stand and grab your robe from the hook on the door, wrapping it tightly around your body as you open the door and groggily walk to the front door.
It was a stupid idea, as you weren’t ready to face anyone yet Ashton stands in front of you. He’s well-rested, a stark contrast to you as you were sure your eyes were still puffy and bloodshot, along with an occasional sniffle from your nose.
His eyes travel from your face, down to your feet, and back up to your eyes. He can immediately tell you had a terrible night.
“You weren’t answering anyone last night,” he begins, tilting his head as he narrows his eyes, “we were worried about you after you left.”
“Yeah,” you sighed, “I just—I didn’t feel like talking to anyone.”
“You could’ve let one of us know that you were shutting off.”
You nodded with a frown, “I could have, yeah,” your eyes dart around behind him to avoid his worrisome eyes before asking him if he wanted to come in.
He doesn’t hesitate and steps in once you move aside, opening the door wider to give him enough room. He notes your bag in a heap on the floor a few inches away from the couch, and how your shoes were far apart, with one upside down, as if you flung them off.
“How are you holding up now?”
You shrug, still avoiding his eyes because you know if you make eye contact, you’ll break down and you won’t have control over the onslaught of emotions.
“Be honest,” his voice is soft, wanting to make you feel comfortable enough to open up.
You stare at the ground, biting the skin of your lower lip nervously. This is why you did not want to talk to anyone face-to-face. Talking to them over the phone, preferably through text, allowed you to lie to the other person (and if applicable, to yourself). But talking to someone in person, and to someone who can see through your lies, you were bound to break down and become vulnerable.
You inhale, taking careful steps to the couch and gently sitting down with a sigh. Ashton follows you, sitting next to you but giving you space to not overwhelm you.
“What happened last night—,” you lean back with your arms folded over your chest, “—was something that I feared. When I realized I liked Luke, I was so worried about him finding out and what the outcome would be. I knew from the beginning that things would never be the same if he found out, and I was afraid of the change that would come from it.”
Ashton listens intently, his eyes displaying sincerity as he listens to you list off your worries. What he saw last night bothered him to no end, and had he not exerted most of his energy during the show, he would not have slept at all and would have stayed up all night in a constant state of worry.
“So, now that Rachel knows, and no doubt Luke has caught on, I don’t know what to do. I responded to everyone’s texts before you arrived, and Luke sent nothing—not even a phone call.”
Ashton nods, swallowing before speaking, “Well, after you left, things went down that may be the reason why he hasn’t tried contacting you.”
Your head turns to face him, eyebrows furrowed as confusion embeds itself across the rest of your features.
Ashton readjusts himself, getting comfortable in his seat as he gathers the right words.
“Something happened after I left?” You ask as you shift in your seat to face him.
“Michael wanted to go after you, to at least offer you a ride back, but Calum went back to tell Luke that it was bullshit what happened. So, Michael went back to make sure they wouldn’t fight or anything. I also pointed out that he was a dick; choosing you over her when he’s known you the longest didn’t sit right with us. But he got defensive and kept wanting to leave but Rachel convinced him it was alright, so they stayed for the party. But the party was bad—the crew felt the tension and the vibes were down—,” he chuckles at the word choice, getting a small laugh out of you as well, “—it brought everyone out of the energetic and ecstatic mood we were in before the confrontation. We all kinda did our own thing during the party but we noticed things were tense between Luke and Rachel. And when the party ended, shit hit the fan.”
“What happened?”
Ashton sighs, “To make the long story short, they got into an argument when we were leaving the venue after Michael brought up your name. He said something like, ‘I hope they got home safe,’ and that you weren’t answering your phone at all. Calum and I pointed out, again, how rude Luke was to you and Luke kept defending himself. Rachel dropped an insult and something shifted. Basically, they’re done and the guys and I can finally fucking breathe.”
“Wait—,” you stand with bulging eyes, “—wait, are you saying they broke up?”
Ashton hums as he watches you mindlessly walk around your living room.
The guys have been waiting for their break-up. It’s not something they were open about, as to avoid any conflict with their best friend, but it was almost an unspoken agreement: Rachel was not liked.
As for you, it’s not like you were wishing for their break-up. You wanted Luke to be happy, and if he was happy in that relationship, then so be it. But you were not a fan of it. Yeah, you liked her in the beginning but when she started disregarding you as if you did something to offend her, you lost most of your respect for her. Now, with this news of their break-up, you don’t know what to do.
Are you happy? You don’t exactly feel happy about it, but there is some relief.
“So,” you sit back down on the couch slowly, “what am I supposed to do with this information?”
“Not sure,” Ashton shrugs, “but I recommend talking to Luke.”
You shake your head fervently, “No. I don’t feel like talking to anyone.”
“But you’re talking to me,” Ashton has a smirk, but you know there’s no malice behind his joke.
“You showed up unannounced, Ash,” you smile, “I was responding to everyone who sent messages and voicemails. I don’t feel like talking to anyone else in person.”
He holds his hands up in defense, “Fair enough, but don’t be a stranger.”
He gives you a quick hug, whispering something similar to ‘don’t shut Luke out’ before he pulls away and walks out.
Ashton’s words stuck with you for the next week. You felt comfortable enough a few days after the fact to contact the boys, eventually meeting up with Ashton and Calum for lunch and third-wheeling Michael and his fiancée. The only person out of your friend group and co-workers you have not contacted was Luke. He hasn’t contacted you either, but you do not think much about it as you’re still trying to figure things out. If he were to contact you, how do you talk about what happened?
You want to know why he was able to choose his then-girlfriend over you, but at the same time you don’t want to know the answer. You know that one day, and though it hurts, you will not be his number one. With the way he behaved that night, it felt like that dreadful moment came to earlier than expected, that he found his number one and you immediately became his second go-to person.
So it did surprise you when you were out with an old friend to receive a text from Luke.
Can we talk about what happened? (2:23pm)
You only stare blankly at the text, not even moving to type a response. You were in such a good mood, and not even this text would change it. Instead, you lock your phone and place it back in your pocket, noting to leave it alone until your day out comes to an end.
And when it does, you see that more texts from Luke had arrived, the final being sent an hour before the outing ended.
I know you’re mad, I understand that and I don’t blame you but please talk to me (2:31pm)
You’re reading these, please say something (2:33pm)
There are some things that I need to clear up with you, I want to apologize for what happened that night but I want to do it face to face. Please respond. (3:57pm)
Whenever you’re ready, I’ll be waiting. Sorry if I’m bombarding you with these texts, I just don’t want to lose you over something that I realize now should not have happened. Respond when you want to, I’ll be here. (5:49pm)
You could only let out a small chuckle at the persistent requests to talk, and you don’t deny the small—minuscule, honestly—flutter in your stomach. You don’t waste any time responding.
Sorry, I was busy. We can meet somewhere to talk. (7:08pm)
He responds about five minutes later, agreeing to meet at a small café the two of you love tomorrow afternoon.
The rest of the night for you is spent thinking of ways to carry yourself, being completely confident, and accepting the fact that you love your best friend. Pep talks in the shower and mirror to calm any arising nerves, revising the topics you want to talk about in your head so you keep the confidence.
As for Luke, he was struggling to gather all his thoughts. In the beginning, he thoroughly enjoyed the fact that you and Rachel got along. He liked seeing his best friend and girlfriend become friends like that. He didn’t notice the shift, however, and he wishes he did before things got out of hand.
When he defended Rachel, without finding out the story from all sides, he thought he was doing what was right. To him, friendships and relationships have the same base, but romantic relationships with a partner have a different structure than friendships do, and he was starting to see cracks in his friendship before he saw it in his relationship.
When he confronted Rachel after she insulted you, he started to see someone he never saw. He remembered the times Rachel ignored you, sometimes playing it off as if she never heard you. He remembered how she would make plans with everyone and exclude you, but he always played it off as an accident (even if he knew it wasn’t). He remembered all these times he noticed a change in mood when the two of you were in the same room, and he couldn’t believe he turned a blind eye to all of it.
It hurt him to break-up with Rachel—he won’t deny that because he did love her. It’s not that he saw the rest of his life with her as they weren’t at that mark in the relationship.
But, when he did picture his future, he always saw you. He always thought it was just as a friend, someone who was just joined at the hip. Yet, he was quick to throw that away for someone he rarely saw when he pictured the future.
Which is why, the next day, as he sits at a booth near the window of the café, he carefully goes over what he wants to say. He doesn’t want to ruin the chance to fix things between the two of you. If it goes awry, not only does he lose you, but his friendships with the band and the team will take a hit since they all love you.
The bell above the door rings making his head turn to watch you walk in. Your eyes danced around the café before they fell on him.
He couldn’t help the smile the formed on his lips, a small breath of relief escaping as he watches you walk towards him. The smile doesn’t stay long though, because as you sit down with a stoic expression, the reality hits him.
“I got your usual,” he’s shy and timid, pushing the mug toward you as he eyes the liquid nearly spills the edge.
You mumble a ‘thanks,’ grabbing the mug and taking a small sip. It falls silent as the two of you wonder who should start first.
Luke makes the move first. He sighs, sitting up straight and wiping his palms on his pants.
He’s nervous. When the guys started touring, visiting new cities and countries, he would always be nervous and constantly wiped his hands on his thighs, sitting up straight and even straighter if he wasn’t slouching. It’s an old habit, but something you remember fondly as he had grown out of it. Or so you thought.
“I want to start with I’m sorry,” he begins, making eye contact but fails to hold it. His eyes instead drift to his drink, “I know what I did was wrong, and I put you in a spot that hurt you and disregarded you. At the moment, I thought I was doing the right thing because she was my girlfriend, but then—” he gulps, “when she insulted you, it struck a nerve and, not to sound cliché or anything, it felt like it opened my eyes. I saw someone I didn’t see when I first met them.”
You don’t respond, just nodding your head to let him know you’re listening.
He licks his lips before continuing, “When the guys brought up how you left on your own, I was feeling nervous and they started reminding me how much of a dick I was to you. I didn’t want to admit it myself, but now, I was such an ass. I’m just—I’m so sorry for what happened.”
“Luke,” you sigh, shifting in your seat, “I’m not saying I forgive you but I accept your apology. It hurt me so much that a friend, someone I’ve known for years was just so quick to turn their back and take someone else’s side. I know she was your girlfriend, but I wish you didn’t do what you did.”
“If I could go back and fix it, I would.”
You only nod again, trying to think about other things that need to be talked about. The one topic you hope to avoid is the possibility of him knowing your feelings—something you do not want to discuss, at least not yet.
“Did she say anything to you?”
The question leaves your mouth before you register it, and the widening of your eyes catches Luke off guard.
“What?”
“Nothing,” you mutter, grabbing your mug and taking a long sip.
“She didn’t tell me what started the problems between you two, if that’s what you mean,” Luke smiles a bit, watching you nervously play with the mug’s handle after the sip. It fades when your eyes move up to meet his, “I don’t know what happened between the two of you, but it isn’t important anymore. She’s out of the picture, and I don’t want to lose you.”
The silence returns, but unlike the previous bout, it’s a calming silence. It isn’t uncomfortable, rather the air is easier to breathe and the tension isn’t unsettling.
“Where do we go from here?” Luke asks, nervously wringing his fingers.
“I don’t want to lose you as a friend, Luke,” you offer a smile, “but it’s going to take some time to ‘heal,’ if you will.”
Luke smiles again, this time a bigger grin. He nods, leaning back in his seat, “Let me know what I can do to make things better. I’ll do it if I get to keep you.”
Over the next few months, your friendship with Luke was rekindled. The guys were at ease now that Rachel was gone and you seemingly had taken her place, even though you were friends. The awkward glances they would give when Rachel was in the same room were now playful rolls of the eyes over a dumb joke or pranks. You didn’t miss out on any outings you wanted to go to, now that everyone invited would check in with each other the night before. Things went back to the way they were before Rachel.
There was a change in your friendship, however. It wasn’t something you noticed right away, but it was something you thought about at night just a few weeks ago. Luke paid more attention to you, not that he didn’t pay attention before, but this was a noticeable change where he still looks at you even after you finished talking, and would only look away from you when you caught him. He would always cover his mouth with his index and middle finger, but you saw a small smile behind them. You played it off as friendly teasing, but it tugs on your heartstrings.
Another noticeable change is the hugs. Duration-wise, they were relatively the same. However the touch lingered; if he wrapped his arms around your shoulders, an arm would stay around your shoulder, meanwhile if they were around your waist, his hand would stay on the small of your back. You played it off as a friend being protective, but yet again, it did nothing to stop your growing love.
Tonight was the first night of their tour. The boys were up to their usual pre-show antics, as well as the nervous habits; Michael fixing his hair and deciding whether to go with a beanie or a hat, or neither, Ashton was warming up with his pre-show playlist, Calum testing his bass, and Luke was relatively fine.
Sure, he was nervous because it isn’t a crowd of 500, close to 20,000, but he was calm compared to the last time he performed. He didn’t have any worries to talk about, his vocal warm-ups were smooth, and getting dressed up was a breeze. He shared chuckles with you as you both watched the others move around with tense expressions (all with no malice, of course).
“You sure you’re not on edge?” you nudge Luke with your arm as he leans forward on the couch your sitting on to fix his shoe.
“Nope,” he sits up, leaning back in his seat.
“Really?” you inquire again, doubt laced in your tone with a hint of teasing.
“Yeah,” he chuckles, “if anything I’m excited about tonight.”
You hum, crossing your arms as you watch Ashton walk over.
“Ten minutes left,” he nods at Luke before walking to Michael to tell him the same thing.
You give Luke a look, wanting to get him to admit he is nervous, but all you get is a smirk and a shrug. He stands, patting your shoulder left before walking away to put in his in-ears.
You won’t deny you still don’t have feelings for him. Throughout the past few months, you were able to pinpoint the reasons why you fell for him. The small acts, the obscure things he would remember about you—especially the ones you don’t remember yourself—with the attention he would give you. It was staring you in the face, but you chose to deny all the signals to give yourself the satisfaction of thinking it was just a phase. But now you know why you love him.
Two minutes until showtime, Ashton finishes his speech and the crew is taking their places. The band stands at the opening, waiting for their cue to head out.
As you watched them hype themselves up, you noticed Luke looking around nervously. Of course.
“Nervous?”
His head whips toward you, and you can see it in his eyes.
“A little,” he mumbles, but you don’t hear it over the crowd’s excited screams.
“You got this,” you grab his shoulders to make him look you in the eyes, “like Ash said, you guys worked your asses off for this album. The fans loved it, your shows are all sold out, and you have thousands out there waiting to see you kill it.”
He’s silent, blue eyes staring into yours as they bounce from one eye to the other.
“I love you,” he blurts, loud enough just for you to hear.
You freeze, the grip on his shoulder loosens but remain.
He notices, “She did tell me something that night, and whether or not it’s true, I-I love you.”
“Sixty seconds!” a stage recites in the earpieces.
The boys turn to look at both of you, curious eyes turn into surprise as they watch your expression.
“I don’t know how long, I don’t know when, and I don’t know what it was, but I know for sure.”
Your eyes glance at Ashton briefly, not missing the knowing smile he gives you before you look back into Luke’s eyes.
“I…love you, too,” you respond, gripping his shoulders while your eyes drop down to his shiny shoes.
He doesn’t hear you over the cheers and screams, but reading your lips he knows the answer.
Luke smiles, grabbing the back of your head and kissing your forehead.
He leans down to your ear, “I expect to hear you say it when I come back.”
With flashing lights scattering across the stage, the boys run out to the stage, big smiles gracing their faces for multiple reasons with adrenaline pumping through their veins. From backstage, you watch the show you a smile, feeling high from the brief but fulfilling confession.
It’s two hours later when the show ends. Your heart is pounding as you watch the crew celebrate the successful first show.
Luke pulls you away from the crowd, into the hallway and away from the noise.
“So it was true, what Rachel said?” Luke begins, his hand still holding yours as a shy smile forms.
“What did she say?”
He exhales air through his nose in a laugh, “She said you were in love with me, and that you were trying to break us up.”
You scoff, shaking your head as you look at your intertwined fingers. He squeezes your hand to get your attention.
“I doubt that last part, but the first part I’m hoping is true in a sense.”
Your eyes meet his, adoration swimming in them bringing a smile to your face, “There may be a strong crush I have on you,” you tease, “and it may or may not have turned into love.”
He laughs, letting go of your hand to wrap you in a hug. His head dips down, his forehead on your shoulder as he breathes in your scent. He moves slightly, whispering in your ear, “Say it.”
Your head rested against his chest, hearing his heart beat rapidly and rhythmically.
“I love you,” you whisper.
You feel him smile against your shoulder before he pulls away, his arms resting on your hips as he smiles down at you.
“If you’d like,” he begins, his tone timid now, “that place you like in Seattle has a new dish. It’s our next stop…” he drifts off, hoping you’d catch on to him asking you out.
You do, laughing at how he remembered yet another thing you seem to have forgotten. It was a themed restaurant that had some of the best food you’ve ever eaten, and for days you wouldn’t stop talking about it. But you never went back to it, even during breaks, but somehow he seemed to remember.
“Yes, Luke.”
You know the shock will hit you later that night, that finally the person you’ve fallen for, who happens to be your best friend, admitted his feelings to you. But you’re happy, Luke’s happy, and with the boys’ and crew’s reaction to the two of you walking back to the area where they’re celebrating, the happiness is infectious.
On the road in the tour bus, Ashton passes you as you respond to emails.
“Thanks for not shutting him out,” he says, drinking a small bottle of water from the fridge.
“Did you know?”
He shrugs, avoiding your eyes as he finishes the bottle and tosses it in the recycling bag. “Maybe,” he walks towards the back where the beds are, “maybe not.”
You shake your head, “You did.”
“Didn’t want to spoil it,” he gives you a quick hug before retreating to bed.
Luke walks out of the bathroom shortly after, taking his spot next to you.
“Go to bed,” you slightly shift your shoulder as he lays his head on it, “you need the rest.”
“No,” he mumbles, sleep lacing his tone, “feels like a dream. Don’t wanna wake up.”
You chuckle at his nonsense, finishing off the last email before shutting the laptop and placing it on the counter next to you. You adjust yourself on the couch to have Luke lay down with you. He readjusts himself so he doesn’t crush you, wrapping his arm around your waist and placing his head on your chest.
“I wish I had known before all the drama,” he mumbles again, eyes closed, “I want you in my life, always.”
He drifts off to sleep with that, a faint smile on his lips.
You know what made you fall in love with your best friend. You accept it now, and you’re at peace knowing the feeling is mutual.

Masterlist
(This is based on a request I asked a few days ago. I’ve tried putting a gif instead of a picture, but tumblr doesn’t let me do it, but I’ll keep tryind. Don’t forget to check out my other Reggie fic and the one I wrote for Luke!)
Stand Tall - Reggie // Akai Ito - Reggie (soulmate au) // Bright - Luke
Since I died, I have enjoyed spending time watching the lifers. I walked the streets of Los Angeles and spent hours and hours sitting in restaurants, coffee shops, pubs and other establishments. Many people spent their time on their cell phones or typing on their laptops, but I liked to watch other people interact. I would like it even more if I could eat, but the smell of coffee and pie always calmed me down. And sometimes I would discover some other ghost in those places.
Especially if he moved a customer's food and the person looked around confusedly. I paid more attention when the woman took her eyes off her cell phone, picked up her plate and changed tables, without noticing the two boys sitting at the table. A third boy, who had previously been in front of the counter, sat in the empty seat. They talked for a while - unfortunately I couldn't hear from where I was several tables behind - before the blonde walked out the door and the third boy shortly after. I got up quickly before the cute boy who was making a prank on the client disappeared too.
"Hi." I said, taking the vacant seat for the blonde. "What's your name?"
His blue eyes widened and looked back before turning back to me and pointing at his chest.
"Me?" he asked, confused, and he just seemed even cuter.
"Yes, you." I laughed. "My name is Y/N, what’s yours?"
“Reggie. I'm Reggie.” he smiled and shifted in his chair, looking excited. "How can you see me?"
I shook my head, still smiling. He clearly didn't understand.
"I'm a ghost too." I replied, extending my hand to the side just as a girl passed and my arm went through her.
His smile widened even further, making his eyes narrow.
"Cool!" he opened his eyes wide. "I mean, it's not cool that you died, or anything..."
But my smile has not diminished.
"It’s okay, I had a year to get used to it."
"What did you die of?"
“Car accident last year. I was with my mom coming back from a performance. She crossed over to the other side, I didn't.” my smile became a little sad. "But what about you? How long have you been a ghost?”
"Well..." he made a funny face. "About 25 years ago we ate some bad hot dogs."
I had to bite my lip to keep from laughing. "Really?"
"I know." he made a face of suffering. "It was not our best moment."
"Our?"
"Me and my bandmates."
"Those who were here with you."
"Yes! Luke and Alex. We died together.”
"So you must have seen a lot of things together in the past 25 years." I commented excitedly, leaning on the table.
"Not exactly." he made another funny face. "After we left the ambulance, we were in this dark room where Alex was crying and the next thing we remember is falling into a girl's garage a few days ago."
"So that means I have more ghost time than you do!"
“Oh, but we’ve already discovered some really cool things! We managed to play in front of people when we played with Julie!”
My heart sank when I heard that name and I opened my mouth to comment, but I felt a shiver go through my body when someone sat in the chair where I was. I got up quickly, because the worse thing than passing through people was staying in the exact spot where she was. I looked at Reggie and he too had stood up when another girl sat down where he was.
"Do you want to get out of here?"
"For sure." said Reggie, holding my hand and whooshing us to a beach where I have never been.
It was not as crowded as the most famous beaches in Los Angeles, but it had some movement.
"Where are we?" I asked when I noticed Reggie kicking some sand and sitting with his back to the sea and facing a bike shack.
"I used to live here." he replied while I sat next to him. “This bike shack used to be my home. Every now and then I come here and wonder what happened to my parents. ”
"I'm sorry." I murmured, lying my head on his shoulder and just watching the movement in the store.
"Okay. I'm sorry I spoiled the mood.”
"It's all right. I think about my family as well.”
"But you've only been a ghost for a year." he said, turning his head slightly towards me. "Didn't you ever see how they're doing?"
"Once, two weeks after we died." I whispered. “My family was destroyed. I couldn't see them like that without being able to do anything, so I only come back once every few months to see if they were okay.”
"I'm sorry." he murmured, resting his head on mine.
We stayed there for a few minutes in that position, not saying anything, just watching people coming and going in front of the store that used to be his home.
"Did they really kill Han Solo?" the question was asked so unexpectedly, I could only lift my head from his shoulder and look at him a little confused.
"What?"
"Do you know Star Wars?" he said quickly. "We went to a club the other day and Luke and I were trying to catch up on what we missed and a couple of the living told us that they made about eight more Star Wars movies and that they killed Han Solo!"
"Whoa, easy!" I laughed. "I do know the movies. And yes, they did. His son killed him.”
"What?!" he looked shocked at me. "I think I would rather never know about the continuation of the series."
"I’m sorry." I said, but I couldn't help but laugh at the expression on his face. “It certainly wasn't the best moments in the saga. This latest trilogy disappointed a little.”
"I was hoping you would tell me it was a lie." he grimaced before letting out a breath and getting up. “Y/N, I need to go. We have a band rehearsal. We are playing tonight at the pub we met, you should go.”
I stood up as well and smiled at him a little, but I denied it.
“Sorry, Reg. I had a really big connection to music and my family when I was alive. It still hurts to think about it, so I always avoid it. But I promise that one day I will see you playing. ”
"Okay." he gave a big smile. "See you around then."
And disappeared.
   ~*~
As the days went by, Reggie and I got closer and closer. We met several times and went to different places. Especially places where I could update him on the things he lost in the last 25 years. But then he stopped appearing beside me with that wide smile and dork way. For several days I didn’t see him, wondering if anything had happened. I heard stories about ghosts who were trapped by contracts, others who ceased to exist, and I was afraid that he had crossed over or was in trouble - and I couldn't do anything to help.
The next time he showed up I was on the beach again, in front of the bike shack, waiting for him to show up at some point. When he appeared, I barely gave him time to pull himself together before jumping into his arms and hugging him tight.
“Reggie! What happened? You went MIA, are you okay? I got worried!"
He didn't answer, just pulled away from the hug, held my face in his hands and kissed me. I reacted instantly, kissing him back in the same intensity.
"It hurt to think that maybe I didn't have the opportunity to do that." he murmured when we leaned away.
"What do you mean by that?"
He then set out to tell me about the Hollywood Ghost Club, the stamp, the shocks, the threats, the Orpheum show and how they managed to touch Julie afterwards.
"Julie?" I asked, feeling my throat tighten. “The girl who can see you and make you visible? Is her name Julie Molina? ”
"How did you know?" he asked, confused, and I had to take a deep breath to keep from crying.
"She is my little sister."
Reggie's eyes widened in surprise. "You are the Y/N who died with Julie's mother."
I just nodded.
“So did she play again? Is she fine?"
He gave me a knowing smile.
“Why don't we go back to the house and you can see for yourself? I think you've gone too long without seeing her. ”
I agreed, still a little stunned.
"Hey Hey." he caught my eye until I looked him straight in the eye. He stroked one of my cheeks and smiled when I blushed. "It's gonna be okay. I was really going to invite you to meet the band. ”
"So let's go." I smiled at his excitement.
He hugged me around the waist and we teleported directly to mom’s studio. It was different from how I remembered. The piano was uncovered, the lights were on, and instruments were scattered on the other side. I think they were the instruments that the boys used. But they were not there.
"Yeah, I think the boys haven't arrived yet." Reggie commented, scratching the back of his neck.
"It's all right." I mumbled, moving towards the piano and sitting on the stool.
Reggie sat next to me.
"Do you play?"
"I used to play with mom and Julie." I said, concentrating my energy on my fingers and starting to strum one of mom's favourite songs. I looked at Reggie and he was smiling at me. I continued to play, feeling the music flowing through me like when I was alive. It was great to know that I could play even now.
"Boys, I already said that you can't play while I'm not ... here."
I stopped playing abruptly when I looked at the garage door and Julie was there looking at me as if she had seen a ghost. Well, had had. I got up from the stool quickly and went towards my sister.
"Julie..." I sobbed, trying to reach her at the same time as she held her hand out to me. But my hand went through hers and I started to cry.
"Y/N." she was crying too. "I missed you so much."
"I missed you too, Jules." I laughed.
"I thought you crossed over, I never saw you here."
“I came here a few times, but you never saw me. I couldn't stand to stay long. I spent most of my time walking around the city. ”
"What about mom?" she asked hopefully.
I shook my head. “I never saw her. She crossed right away.”
Julie tried to dry the tears, but they just kept coming down.
"Please, don’t go." she pleaded in a voice so low it broke my heart. “You can stay here with the boys. Just please don't go.”
I looked at Reggie in exasperation, but he came over to me and rested a hand on my back and I managed to take a deep breath.
"Okay." I smiled at my younger sister. "I’ll stay here."
"Yes!" I heard Reggie murmuring and Julie and I laughed, slowly composing ourselves.
“Julie? Is everything alright here?" I heard a third voice and turned to see the two boys who were in the pub with Reggie when I met him.
"Alex, Luke, this is Y/N, my sister."
Luke, the one with the brown hair, raised his eyebrows in surprise. "The sister you said that died?"
Julie made a face, but I just laughed and confirmed it.
Alex, the blonde, observed my closeness to Reggie and smirked. "I imagine this is also the same Y/N that Reggie kept talking about."
"Eh... Well... It wasn't like that..." Reggie gasped trying to brush it off, but I just laughed as I grabbed his chin and pulled him in for a quick kiss.
I barely noticed the boys' laughter and Julie's comment on how weird it was to see her sister kissing someone. I was too busy drinking on Reggie's expression, who had his eyes closed and an ecstatic smile on his lips.

You got any dinluke fanfiction recs?
BRO, SO MANY!! You have come to the right place since I've literally read every single fic up to when we hit about 90 of them in the tag 😎 Here are all the fics (in no particular order) that are completed and that I have finished reading that I have recced on my ao3!
Separate Ways || 80.9K Words || Explicit
With Moff Gideon defeated and the Darksaber reclaimed, the rumours of newly named Mand'alor Din Djarin spread through the galaxy... along with the stories of the Child he carries with him. Determined to meet him, Luke Skywalker arrives on Mandalore -- but before he can get any closer, he has to prove himself worthy of Mandalorian standards.
This fic is a classic! Its literally The Dinluke fic to read. It's a great starting point, and it was written Pre S2!
Together || 1.49K Words || General Audiences
“You can come with us” the man said.
Din looked up, not quite registering the words yet. In his arms he was holding the child. Grogu. He still hadn’t gotten used to the name.
“This doesn’t have to be goodbye for you and the youngling” the Jedi repeated.
you are a clan of three || 1.49K Words || General Audiences
Din stands quite still, polite-like, with his hands crossed at his waist. So does Luke. After a moment, the baby crosses his hands too.
At last Din appears to relax completely and Luke turns away. ‘I’ll be back for him,’ he tells Din, his voice warm, ‘but first I must attend to my other Padawans.’
‘Oh,’ Din says respectfully. ‘Is that… a Force thing?’
Crystal Tears || 2.95K Words || Not Rated
“This is going to be awkward,” Luke sighs down at the baby in his arms. R2 beeps besides him and Luke nods in agreement. “Nothing to do but go back.”
His X-Wing is almost completely dismantled, sparking where wires hang limply. There is no way he’s getting off of this cruiser until it’s repaired. There aren't even any escape pods on board all of the docking bays empty. He hadn’t anticipated this, and now he was going to have to walk back to the bridge with the baby and explain himself to a heartbroken Mandalorian.
This fic is great, but so its the series its apart of! I really love Din and Luke's dynamic, so if you read this fic I definitely reccomend reading the 3 following ones as well! Altogether its 19.8K Words!
the art of missing Din Djarin || 1.15K Words || Teen
Somehow, Luke had a distinct feeling that the bounty hunter was an easy man to miss.
Or, 4 times Grogu wants to know if Luke misses Din.
I remember reading this and absolutely loving it. Its short and sweet (most of these fics are) but they made me giggle stupidly, so I reccomend it!
Yoda's Academy for Li'l Padawans || 17.6K Words || Teen
Being a new student is hard.
Being a new student whilst your socially awkward father avoids the school at all costs and your new teacher pines uselessly over a man he’s never met before is even worse.
But by god, Grogu is gonna get through this.
Legitimately I think this might be my favorite fic so far and it barely has any actual dinluke in it. Luke's dynamic with all of Din's friends, plus him complaining to Han and Leia the entire time is just so fun to read that the whole fic flies by so fast. Also Din just desperately avoiding Luke bc the idea of having to talk to 1 (one) pretty boy has completely crippled him.
More Than His Armor || 12.6K Words || Teen
Din visits Grogu at Luke’s academy more than any other parent. Luke isn’t complaining.
His Beacon, His Harbor || 21.4K Words || Mature
The first thing Din noticed was the fire in the hearth. Near the hearth was a small, handmade crib, and from the crib came an excited cry. It spread through Din's chest like a bloodstain, perhaps it had in fact pierced his heart. He knew that little voice.
“Hey, you,” said Din softly. He dropped to his knees as the Kid scrambled out of the crib and scampered to him, crawling into his lap and burbling happily.
“That’s the most excited I’ve seen him in months,” said Skywalker. Din hadn’t even noticed him sitting across the room at a rough-hewn wooden table, nursing a cup of something. He wore the same carefully neutral expression he'd had on Gideon's ship, but his clothes were now desert-colored and hung loose around Skywalker's wiry frame. His hair was in disarray and it made him look much younger than he'd seemed on the ship; there, he'd seemed world-weary and ancient. Now, Din felt an insane need to protect.
Skywalker raised his cup at Din in greeting, a lopsided smile on his face. “He’s missed you," he said.
“Feeling’s mutual,” said Din gruffly.
___
The Mandalorian becomes Din Djarin.
Din Djarin becomes.
(Luke helps.)
Oh man, I read this fic last night and it's literally pure art. Its so fucking sweet, I love it so much. Force sensitive Din is definitely something more people need to write, and I genuinely adore this whole thing from start to finish. Leia is in it very briefly too, and that's always lovely. 💖
They Know This || 1.2K Words || General Audiences
“This is Luke, Gregory. He is going to be having dinner with us. Remember that I told you we’d be having dinner with someone significant?” Dad asks so gently, and his rough hands run through Grogu’s hair. It’s like being scratched.
Grogu nods once more and Dad breaks into an even bigger smile, though by a lot of standards that’s not very large. Dad’s smiles are always like when comets fly past the moon, so sudden and shocking and a reminder of how truly small Grogu feels in this bigger universe he calls home, this feeling that’s so overwhelming.
He loves Dad. A lot.
So hehe this is actually my fic! It's just a fic in grogu's pov about meeting Luke for the first time, and he and Din are on a date :)
Alright, I hope these are good enough for you! I don't really rec fics on here, so I hope I did okay this first time around 😎

Masterlist
___
Luke Patterson had always loved the idea of soulmates. When he was a little boy his parents would regale him with the story of how they met. They ran into each other on the quad at their university, his mom knocked to the ground and his dad dropping his books. In her flustered state Emily had combined “Hey, watch where you’re going!” with “Are you okay?” and ended up crying out “Hey, watch where you’re okay!” while his dad had cursed “Shitfuck, are you okay?” When Mitch offered his hand to help her up they noticed each others’ tattoos and the rest was history.
It was Luke’s favorite story in the whole world and he grew up daydreaming about the day he’d meet his soulmate. He couldn’t wait to see what words would appear on his skin when he or she said their first words to him. He wondered if he’d feel the tingle that some reported feeling when the mark formed on their skin, or what the handwriting of his soulmate would look like permanently inked onto this skin. No matter what he knew he’d cherish the mark, it would be from his soulmate, after all, his other half, the person he was destined to spend the rest of his life with.
Dying before he could hear the words that would change his life forever kinda threw a wrench in his plans.
The thought of his soulmate out there, having grown up without him, never to meet each other because of his untimely death had plagued him for days after Julie “resurrected” them. Then Alex had met Willie. The skater ghost had died more nearly a decade before they had and yet he and Alex were soulmates, “You dinged my board.” proudly displayed on the blond’s wrist.
The knowledge that soulmates existed even in death had brought hope back into his life and he started spending his free time daydreaming about them again.
He’d been channeling his daydreams into songwriting one afternoon when Julie had walked into the garage with Flynn and another friend. He assumed you hadn’t been informed about the ghosts as neither Flynn nor Julie made any remarks towards the guitarist despite typically doing so. He wished that wasn’t the case as you were quite cute. You were absolutely the type of girl Luke would’ve crushed on hard back when he was alive, soulmates or not.
“Oh, and who is this?” Luke asked, employing his teasing tone as he spoke to the newcomer as you set down your backpack though he knew only Julie could hear him.
He had expected a quiet laugh or at the very least a dramatic eye roll from the girl but when he turned to look at her she was staring at her friend’s wrist. Luke turned to look as well and his stomach immediately sank.
There inked on your wrist in his chicken-scratch handwriting were the words he had just spoken to you.
“Oh my gosh,” Julie gasped aloud, drawing everyone’s attention as she opened her mouth to announce what she had just observed.
Before he even had time to think about it, he was stopping her. “No! Julie don’t!”
She stared at him puzzled for a moment but closed her mouth anyway.
“What?” Her friend asked, looking at her perplexed.
“I just… forgot to tell my dad you guys were coming over,” Julie saved. “I’ll just text him real quick.”
You and Flynn nodded, unfazed by the excuse, and plopped down onto the available seating. Luke sighed, pulling his eyes away from you and poofing out of the garage.
He reappeared at his parent’s house. He had hoped to vent to his mom but she wasn’t home so he plopped down on his old bed. His parents hadn’t done much to the room since his death and as he laid there in silence it almost felt like it was still ’95. That pit that had started to form in his stomach continued to grow as he laid there, his thoughts swirling as his hopes thrashed around him once more.
He’d finally found his soulmate but she was- what had Alex called them?- a lifer. She couldn’t even see him. How were they supposed to meet and fall in love and build a life together when she couldn’t even see him and he couldn’t even touch her? How were they supposed to pass their story on to their future kids when she hadn’t even been able to hear the words that were now permanently etched into her skin? As he thought more about it he realized that he hadn’t received a mark of his own. His heart sank as he ran his thumb over the bare skin of his wrist. He’d stopped Julie before she could tell her he was even there so she’d never had a chance to say her first words to him.
It was worth it, he decided after a while. It was worth never hearing the words, never having the tattoo and knowing for certain that his perfect match was out there. It was worth it if he could spare you from the pain of knowing that your soulmate was there but he was dead and invisible.
___
Luke was almost grateful for the distraction of the Hollywood Ghost Club. The last few weeks had been torture, him constantly trying to avoid being in the same room with you and Julie. She had told you about them being ghosts not long after the appearance of your soulmark and had even invited you to meet the band which you had readily accepted. Luke, however, had run away before you could come that day. It killed him that you had met Alex and Reggie and not him, but he figured it would kill him more to have your first words to him appear on his wrist.
They talked about you sometimes, about how funny and adorable you were. It made his blood boil but he had to restrain himself, what right did he have to be jealous when he refused to even meet you.
Still, the rush to book the Orpheum was a welcome distraction from his internal turmoil. It was even enough to distract him from the fact that no matter what happened at the end of the night, he’d never see you again.
He’d miss you. That much was obvious. He’d miss hiding in the loft when you came over to work on homework with Julie, just out of sight so Julie wouldn’t see him but he could still watch you. He’d learned a lot about you that way, how your smile could light up a room, how gorgeous your laugh was but he could tell you hated it by the way you covered your mouth when you did it, how you fidgeted with the hair ties on your wrist whenever you were thinking (he noticed you always had at least two), and that you were almost always cold. He wished he could give you his flannels, you’d look so cute wrapped up in them and they’d certainly keep you warm.
He was thinking of you as he and the guys gathered around the piano in the studio. Julie had just left to head to the Orpheum with her dad and the mood in the garage had immediately grown somber. Their heads filled with worries of what would come next, what was on the other side? Luke’s only comfort was the thought that maybe if he crossed over you’d get a second chance at a soulmate, one who was alive. You’d never even spoken to him and yet he’d do anything for you.
It was that dedication to you that had pulled him out of the Hollywood Ghost Club and onto the Orpheum stage.
It was that dedication that kept him from running straight to Caleb to save his soul when they didn’t cross over. He’d let his soul be destroyed if it meant your happiness.
He never could’ve anticipated what had happened that night nor the repercussions.
He’d spent the next day journaling, writing down all his thoughts- and there were a lot seeing as he had expected to die yesterday, again. He was alone in the studio, Alex out celebrating with Willie and Reggie was who knows where (probably showing Ray like usual), then you walked in.
He sighed, getting ready to poof up to his hiding spot in the loft before Julie showed up when he was stopped.
“Am I dead?” You asked, staring at him in alarm.
“What do you mean?” Luke asked warily, not understanding the premise of your question.
“Well, you’re dead, and with the exception of Julie, you’re only visible to other dead people and I can see you,” you explained carefully, eyes wide.
Luke nodded at your train of thought before it hit him.
“Wait, you can see me?” He gasped, and you nodded. “You can see me! You talked to me!”
His head snapped down to stare at his wrist, sure enough, “Am I Dead?” was scrawled across his skin in the most beautiful handwriting he’d ever seen. Sure, some might say it was a little messy but to him it was perfect.
Before he could even think about his actions, he was rushing towards you and pulling you into his chest. You stiffened, shocked by the sudden action.
“What’re you-“ started to ask but you were cut off by him violently throwing himself away from you.
“I just touched you,” he gasped, once again stating the obvious. “Why can I touch you? Are you dead?”
“No! At least… I didn’t think I was but now I’m really not sure.” You shook your hands anxiously before reaching for one of your hair ties as you started pacing.
“Sorry for taking so long Y/N, I got caught up with Reggie in the house- what on earth is going on in here?” Julie paused in the doorway as she observed your pacing and Luke’s panicked look.
“Oh thank god, you can see me,” You breathe out before turning to Luke, “Julie can see me, so I must not be dead.”
“What?”
“Y/N and I thought maybe she was dead since she can see me and I could touch her,” Luke explained and you nodded.
“What?!” Julie repeated, more shocked than the last time. “You can see him? And you, you can touch her?”
“Yeah, look!” Luke exclaimed, reaching his arm out to tap your arm but it just went right through you. “Huh, why…?”
“Maybe the first time was a fluke?” You supplied before something caught your eye.
You reached out to grab his arm as it fell back to his side. This time it worked, and you pulled his limb closer to you, turning it over to examine what you had seen.
“Woah, see?” Luke said pointedly to Julie, though you weren’t listening.
“That’s- how? You’re-“ you sputtered as you stared at the mark on his wrist. “Soulmates.” You whispered finally.
“Um, I’m gonna give you guys some time,” Julie said, eyes wide as she walked backward out of the garage.
You didn’t let go of his wrist, your eyes flitting between your words and his eyes.
“That’s why I didn’t hear them,” you muttered, bringing your own wrist next to his.
It had been puzzling you for weeks, how you couldn’t remember hearing the words the day they had appeared on your wrist. It made sense now, you couldn’t hear them because Luke had said them.
“I’m sorry,” Luke said, dropping his wrist from your grasp. “I thought maybe if you didn’t know you could find happiness somewhere else. With someone who wasn’t invisible and intangible.”
Your gaze softened as you looked up at him, his face was tilted down, unable to look you in the eye. You sighed, taking a deep breath before reaching your hand up to cup the side of his face. It took a couple of tries but you were finally able to place your hand on his cheek, tilting his face to look up at you.
“Luke,” you said softly, “How could I want anyone else?”
He shook his head at your words, though his hand came up to rest over your own. “How could you know that? This is the first time we’ve ever spoken.”
“Because the universe put us together,” you answered surely, bringing your wrists together again in the space between you. “I have no idea how this is going to work but I know it’ll be worth it because these mean we’re meant for each other.”
“You are better than I could ever imagine,” Luke confessed softly, and you smiled shyly. “I don’t deserve you.”
“Well you’re stuck with me now,” you joked lightly, before pulling him to the couch. “Now c’mon soulmate, we’ve got some catching up to do.”

What About Trust, Chapter 9
TITLE: What About Trust CHAPTER NO./ONE SHOT: Chapter 9 AUTHOR: fanficshiddles ORIGINAL IMAGINE: Imagine Loki owns a bookshop on Midgard. He had to do something there to try and avoid getting any attention. But he’s not fond of having customers, is rather grumpy and guarded. But then he meets a bright, bubbly and trusting young woman who doesn’t recognise him. To his dismay, he finds himself becoming rather fond of the mortal.  RATING: M
Cleo wasn’t sure why she felt so nervous. She had never felt nervous about being around Loki at all before, so why now?
She paced back and fore in her flat again, making sure it was clean and tidy enough for a guest. But she also didn’t want him to think she always lived like this, so didn’t go completely nuts with putting away her books and vinyl’s, most of them were spilled out onto the floor around her record player in the corner of her living room.
‘God, I hope Luke doesn’t think less of me when he sees this place.’ She muttered to herself and nibbled on her nails.
His apartment had really surprised her with how large it was, it was stunning. She was obsessed with his den though. But in comparison, her flat was… small and boring. Though she loved it, or she thought she did until she saw Loki’s place.
But she was also thinking about the kisses they’d shared those three days ago… The development in their relationship just from that morning. If it could even be called a relationship? She wasn’t sure. She hadn’t seen him since then as she had been working, but she had tomorrow off so thought it was a good idea to invite him over for dinner so she could cook this time.
Now she was wishing she’d asked him out somewhere instead.
The buzzer going off alerted her that it was far too late to go back on now. But when she rushed over and answered through the comms, hearing his voice instantly put her at ease and made her feel fuzzy inside.
‘Come on up.’ She said happily as she pressed the unlock button for the door.
By the time she got to her door, Loki was just coming up the stairs. He surprised her by giving her a bunch of flowers and a box of chocolates.
‘Aww, you big softie.’ She grinned up at him.
He leaned down and kissed her gently on the lips, making her heart flutter. ‘I can be soft when I want to be.’ He smirked, making her laugh.
‘Come on in.’ She stepped back and motioned him into her flat. ‘It’s uhm… Nothing special, especially compared to your place.’ She said sheepishly.
Loki shook his head. ‘Nonsense, darling. It’s perfect. So homely and cosy.’ He grinned as he looked around, loving how compact it was. It felt secure. The only reason he had a larger place by choice was to try and impress Thor, which did the trick.
While Cleo put the flowers into a vase, Loki took the time to have a nosey through her books and records. He also found a drawer that was filled with photographs from over the years, of her with family and friends. It made him smile to see.
‘Oh god, you found the dreaded drawer.’ She laughed as she brought a drink through from the kitchen for them both.
Loki grinned as he continued looking through some of them. He found some baby pictures and cooed over how adorable she was as a baby, while she just hid her face behind her hands the entire time. Then to her relief he finally joined her on the sofa. She had music playing, she’d set the record player up earlier before he arrived.
‘Who’s this playing?’ He asked curiously, rather enjoying the poppy type of music. It was annoyingly catchy he thought.
‘It’s Maroon 5. They’re one of my favourites.’ Cleo grinned. ‘Do you like them?’
Loki shrugged nonchalantly. ‘They’re alright, I suppose.’ Making her laugh.
‘I hope home-made pizza is ok for dinner. I’m not the best at cooking, but I have been told my pizzas are the bomb.’ Cleo said when the timer went off in the kitchen.
‘Sounds wonderful.’ Loki assured her, then a mischievous smile broke out. ‘I’m sure it won’t be any worse than the pizza from the takeaway in piccadilly gardens.’
‘Hey! That place is abysmal and should not be allowed to remain open.’ She growled at him as she headed through to the kitchen.
Loki chuckled. There was a place that was well known for how bad its pizzas were. How it was still even open was a complete mystery to everyone.
His eyes widened when he went through to the table to sit down and he saw the pizzas. They looked amazing, and smelled even better.
‘The tomatoes and onions are home grown.’ She said proudly as she passed Loki a plate and napkins.
‘I’m impressed. But let’s see what the taste test does.’ He teased her and cut a bit off to try.
She waited with bated breath to see if he would like it or not. His face was rather passive as he savoured the taste and evaluated it. But he went over the top, just taking his sweet time and humming now and then. Eventually he swallowed it, then made smacking noises as he continued to ‘taste’ it.
‘Now you’re just being a dick.’ Cleo grumbled at him, glaring across the table at him.
His face broke out into a large grin and he laughed. ‘I couldn’t resist… But wow, this is one of the best pizzas I’ve ever tasted, honestly. It’s delicious!’ He said and tucked straight into more.
Cleo beamed in delight as she started on hers as well.
‘I made the tomato sauce for it myself too, again with my own tomatoes.’
‘Very impressive indeed. But there is just one, little bad thing…’ He said before quickly eating a bit more. She felt her stomach drop. Oh no…
‘You are going to need to make me pizza on a daily basis now, because this is far too good for a one off.’
Cleo laughed and felt relieved that that was the only bad thing.
‘I’m not sure about daily, but I could certainly try weekly or fortnightly at least.’ She suggested.
‘Pizza date night sounds a delightful idea for a weekly occasion.’ Loki winked at her, making her blush.
‘Only if you do waffles weekly for me?’ She asked innocently and fluttered her eyelashes at him.
‘I’m sure that can be arranged.’ He purred. ‘Do I take it that means I can stay the night?’ He chanced asking, wolfing the last bit of his pizza down with a moan.
‘If you want to… of course you can. I don’t think I have a spare toothbrush though…’ She trailed off when Loki reached into his suit jacked and pulled out his toothbrush, a cheeky glint in his eye as she burst out laughing.
‘Ok, you’re prepared.’
‘Always.’ He grinned, then his eyes landed on her plate. She hadn’t touched her last bit for a few minutes. ‘Are you going to finish that?’
Cleo laughed again and slid the plate towards him. ‘Be my guest.’
-
After dinner and a glass of wine, Cleo took Loki down to her garden plot to show him what she was growing.
‘I thought you said it was a small plot you had?’ Loki nudged her playfully with his elbow.
‘It is!’
‘It’s quite substantial in my eyes.’
It was a good size. She had two rows of carrots, a row of onions and three rows of potatoes. Along with some strawberry plants and a raspberry bush. Surrounding the paved area where the greenhouse was, she had some potted flowers and borders with some perennial shrubs in it as well as some annual flowers at the front, it was really beautiful. The vegetable plants were covered with netting to stop the birds getting them. She had a small greenhouse where her tomato plants were growing, along with a few cucumber plants as well, that were slowly starting to grow.
‘What are these?’ Loki asked as he pointed to a tray with lots of tiny seedlings just sprouting.
‘Marigolds. They’re one of my favourite flowers. I bought a window pot for outside my bedroom, the sun always hits it for most of the day. So I plan to put them into there once they’re ready.’ She said excitedly.
‘Are these lava pebbles?’ He asked as he scooped up some of the light, small, pebbles that layered the shelves in the greenhouse.
‘Yep. They hold the heat really well and some moisture, they’re perfect for when everything is in early stages of growing.’ She nodded.
‘I really wouldn’t have taken you for much of a green thumb, being honest.’ He smirked. ‘But this is all incredible. My mother would’ve loved you.’ He blurted out.
‘Did she enjoy gardening?’ Cleo asked as she leaned against the shelf, feeling warmed inside that he thought his mother would love her.
‘She did enjoy tending to her gardens.’ Loki nodded and smiled fondly as he thought about her. ‘Especially flowers… You would’ve loved our gardens we had at home.’
Cleo reached over and lightly touched his hand with the tips of his fingers. He looked down and smiled as they tangled their fingers together.
‘She sounds like she was a lovely woman. You speak really fondly of her, it’s really nice.’ Cleo said quietly.
Loki felt a little tight chested, but he focused on Cleo. ‘I… I really miss her.’ He admitted. ‘I didn’t exactly do her proud when she was alive.’
Cleo frowned and squeezed his hand. ‘She would be proud of you now. Owning your own bookshop, with an amazing apartment.’
Loki smiled at the way she was trying to make him feel better. He wished he could open up to her properly, that she knew…
He turned more towards Cleo and tucked her hair back behind her ear, then he cupped her cheek and leaned down to kiss her. Their lips moulded together slowly, tasting each other. Loki slipped his other hand around her to her lower back, he gently pressed her into him so their bodies were flush together.
When they parted, she was rather flustered and so was he. He rubbed his thumb up and down her cheek and smiled. Then she started laughing a bit.
‘What is it?’ He raised an eyebrow.
‘It’s just… You’re too tall. I was on my tiptoes there and still could barely reach you, like out of a movie.’
Loki chuckled and simply kissed her again. Making sure to lean down even further this time for her.
They went back inside after sharing a few more kisses in the greenhouse. Loki plucked one of her books from the shelf and sat down on the sofa to read aloud to her. She loved his voice, so was in utter heaven when she lay down with her head on his lap. He couldn’t resist stroking her hair while he read, it was such a peaceful position to be in with the woman he wanted to be with. Neither of them could imagine a better evening, or better company.
Cleo was definitely starting to see a real soft side to him, that she had known was there from the start really. Though she would always love his mischievous and snarky attitude, too.
The two of them stayed up quite late, reading books and listening to music. Talking about some songs and the meanings of certain lyrics. Bickering playfully about some of it, too. When it was time for bed, Loki assumed he would be on the sofa.
But when Cleo got into her pjs she went to the living room and saw Loki in his boxers, sorting out the cushions on the sofa. Her breath was caught momentarily as she looked at his body, she knew he was strong but she never realised how fit he truly was under his clothes.
‘Uhm… You uh, can share my bed if you want? There should be room. The sofa isn’t exactly the comfiest.’ She said a little shyly.
‘Are you sure?’ Loki asked, surprised but pleased she asked.
‘Of course.’ She nodded a bit over eagerly, making him grin as he walked over to her. ‘Though you are warned, I am a fidget while I sleep. So I am not responsible for any injuries that may occur to you during the night from possible kicks or punches.’ She said as she headed into the bedroom and got into bed.
Loki threw his head back with laughter as he followed her though. ‘Well, there is only one solution for that.’ He growled and leapt into bed with her under the quilt, she started giggling when he grabbed her and pulled her back flush against his front and he playfully, and lightly, bit her shoulder.
‘I will just keep you locked in my arms for the night… For my own safety, of course.’ He hummed and nuzzled his nose into her hair.
‘Of course, for safety.’ She giggled. Though she had a feeling that he was big on affection, it seemed, once he got to know and trust someone. And she certainly didn’t mind that, at all.
She went to sleep with the biggest smile on her face as she was encased in his protective and warm embrace. Though it took a little while for her racing heart to calm down enough for her to sleep.

Slap me, I dare you! pt.7
“Ugh, could someone just end me please, drop a dictionary on me or something.” Marley groaned as she flopped on the table.
“No need to be overly dramatic, Marley. Just be a bit more patient. And you should probably be a bit quieter, we are in RAD’s library.” Simeon replied as he flipped through his book.
“Patient? Simeon, it’s been three days and I’m still four inches tall. This is driving me crazy. On top of that, I swear I can feel the gloom and doom coming from the Seven Lords from here.”
“Well, I did say I would message Lucifer on your behalf. I still can if you want to.”
Marley got up to her feet and skated toward the towering angel on an icy trail. Simeon closed his book to give the minuscule woman his attention. From there, Marley grabbed a piece of paper which she promptly folded and propped up like a makeshift tent.
“Yeah, I’m not ready to deal with that can of worms yet. Especially when I’m only this tall, it kind of puts me at a disadvantage.”
“Alright, but you can’t avoid them forever.”
“Oh, I can try.” Marley answered as she flopped to the ground causing her floral ball gown to puff up as she tried to get the dress under control.
Simeon held back a laugh as he offered a finger to help press the air out of the excessive underskirt.
“Argh, why!? I thought I was done with this crap! I want normal clothes again!” She screamed as she tried to remove the gown entirely.
Simeon shook his head with a sigh as Marley tried to pull the dress over her head. Upon opening his eyes, Simeon felt his cheeks warm up as he saw part of Marley’s backside peeking out from between the layers. Instinctively, Simeon grabbed the back of her dress and pulled it back down.
“Hey, what the hell, Simeon!?”
“You shouldn’t get undressed in the middle of the library, Marley.” Marley growled at the angel only to snort and give up her attempt to destroy the only means of covering herself.
“Hmm...”
“What?”
“I wasn’t expecting you to have such a big birthmark on your lower back.” He commented.
Marley folded her arms and snorted once more in a tired fashion.
“It’s not a birthmark, it’s a tattoo. I’m just too small for you to see it.” She explained.
“Oh, does it have any special meaning to you? I heard people in the human realm get them for many different reasons.”
Marley’s shoulders sunken as she sheepishly looked away.
“Yeah, I was drunk with my best friend when I got it. One night we were wasted, the next day, I found out I got a tattoo and a nasty hangover. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to sleep this whole situation off like a bad hangover.” She claimed as she crawled into her tent.
Simeon couldn’t help but chuckle as he watched the indifferent selkie turn away from him and drift to sleep. Shaking his head, the angel carefully got up from the table to grab a different book.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“And that concludes today’s council meeting. If there are no further questions, everyone’s dismissed.” Lucifer claimed as he straightened his papers into a file.
He watched as his brothers groaned and mumbled amongst themselves while heading toward the doors to the hallway. Lucifer held his temples and took a deep breath, it’s been three days and there was still no sign of Marley. He could only torture his brothers so much and his patience was on thin ice. He wanted to find her just to know that she was safe and once he found her safe and sound, he wished to punish her accordingly. However, his thoughts were interrupted by Lord Diavolo who approached him.
“Ah, Lord Diavolo, how can I help you?”
Diavolo cleared his throat a little before lowering his voice, keeping his concern private.
“I was wondering how Marley has been doing since her return to Devildom.”
Lucifer’s eyes widened a bit upon hearing his lord’s inquiry. He couldn’t lie to Diavolo as much as he didn’t want to tell him what had happened to the precious exchange student.
“She has made great strides in her studies but it’s currently hard to get in contact with her.” Lucifer vaguely answered.
“Ah, I see, I was hoping to finally have some time to see her again. Not to mention I have yet to give her my number.”
“Not to worry, once I find her, I will let her know.” Lucifer answered with a smile.
Diavolo, oblivious to the double meaning, gave a soft nod before exiting the room with Barbatos following close behind. Once he was out of sight, Lucifer rushed out of the room and hurried down the hallway where he could see his brothers in the distance. Caught up to Levi and Asmo, Lucifer grabbed both of them by their collars which made them jump.
“Lucifer, if you wanted my attention, you didn’t have to be so rough~” Asmo suggested coyly.
“I’m in no mood, Asmodeus. Have either of you found her yet?”
Levi tried to shake himself loose from his brother’s iron grip.
“N-No, but she has to turn up eventually, right? Marley’s a survivalist after all.” Levi offered with a shaky smile.
Lucifer’s eyes narrowed to the point that Levi could feel a hole being drilled into his head.
“Survivalist or not, I want her found sooner rather than later.” He answered coldly before roughly releasing his brothers from his grip.
Asmo and Levi watched Lucifer briskly walk down the corridor and around the corner before giving a collective sigh.
“How come I’m getting the rough treatment? I didn’t lose her.” Asmo pouted.
Levi just looked at his prissy brother as he rubbed the back of his neck gingerly. While he was upset with Asmo’s insensitivity, deep down he knew he was at fault and the thought of anything happening to Marley had been dragging him down and running him ragged. Asmo’s eyes glimmered for a moment as he noticed his brother turning away from him.
“Levi, you know I didn’t mean anything by that, right?”
“I know but I don’t need you rubbing it in. Marley is lost in Devildom because of me and Beel. And the fact that we haven’t found her yet is destroying me. I haven’t felt this bad since I played Devil’s Labyrinth 4 on Brutal difficulty for twenty-six hours straight.”
Asmo gently patted Levi’s shoulder.
“Think of the bright side, Beel didn't smell any of her blood and Satan checked all of his cats and didn’t find her.”
“Great, that just means something else ate her in one bite.” Levi frowned.
Suddenly, Levi’s D.D.D. vibrated in his pocket aggressively as Asmo’s chimed in his. Pulling out their phones, both brothers entered the group chat and read the posted message with wide eyes that only grew wider as the meaning sunk in. A simple message that stated, “I found her.”
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Marley wiggled her nose as she tried to curl up in a tighter ball. Little did she know, she was surrounded by demons who were holding back their various emotions. There she was, sleeping on a table in the library, encircled by Satan, Beelzebub and Belphie. By the time Asmo and Levi came into the library, the trio had already pulled their phones out and was taking pictures. Levi’s knees grew weak as he approached the table, feeling all sorts of relief seeing his Henry was safe and knowing that he wouldn’t have to withstand any more punishment from Lucifer. Suddenly, his legs gave out as he squatted next to the table, his eyes locked with Marley’s sleeping form.
“...H-How?” He barely managed out.
“Beel tracked her with his nose. I’m surprised that he managed it from across RAD.” Satan answered.
Beel sighed, half in relief and half in disappointment, as he held his wrist.
“I smelt Luke’s Cloud Chess Pie and I thought I could get some if I followed the scent. Marley’s definitely better than pie but now I really want pie.”
“See, now that I’m not surprised by.” Belphie retorted with a chuckle.
“Nevermind all that, all that matters is that Marley’s safe and sound~” Asmo chirped, only to be shushed by Satan.
“Asmo, quiet, are you trying to wake her up?” Satan scolded.
“Why not?”
“Because we have no idea how she got here. What if she has some sort of enchantment on her? Look at her, have you ever seen Marley dressed like this?”
“Yeah, maybe she was kidnapped by some demon stalker.” Belphie flatly claimed.
“Who would have the horns!?” Levi squealed out with his face turning red from rage.
“Would you shut up!? I’m trying to sleep!” Marley screamed as she sat up in a fit.
However, her annoyance melted away to reveal a sheepish expression as she stared at the towering brothers surrounding her. Some were on the verge of tears, others had their arms folded while one continued to sniff the air. Marley remained still as her eyes trailed across all their faces. Her face scrunched up and painted a cringing smile while she gave a small wave.
“Heeeeey guys, what’s up?” She squeezed out.

When Willie directs Luke, Julie, Alex, and Reggie to seek out some mysterious girl who might be able to make lifers see them, Luke isn’t sure what to expect.
masterlist
Tumblr media
Luke stares at the boy in front of him, hands shoved into his pockets to stop from fidgeting. Reggie, to his left, looks more confused than anything. Alex, to his right, is standing perfectly still, trying to look cool in front of Willie. Luke himself is standing right behind Julie, a not-so-silent shadow who’s still deciding whether or not Willie can be trusted.
Willie, to his credit, is doing everything he can to make up for his past actions. That’s why Luke and his friends have agreed to meet up with him today- to find out another solution to the grand problem of getting Bobby to see them.
Willie folds his hands in front of him. “I’ve been looking into every possible source I can. I’m not sure how many options you have.” Alex looks questioningly at Willie. “Do you have anything?” Willie nods. “There’s only one shot left- another lifer, one who can see ghosts just like Julie can.”
Luke steps forward, shocked. “I thought you said that lifers seeing ghosts was impossible.” Willie turns to face him. “It is. Or, at least it is for everyone except Julie and this girl.” He glances around to make sure no one is in the general vicinity, lowering his voice as he continues to speak. “I don’t want to say her name in case Caleb is listening, but if there’s any way to make lifers see you, she would know about it. I can’t go to her myself- Caleb’s grown pretty strict about monitoring me, but you can go find her yourselves.”
“She goes to this park every day after school. There’s a bench in the back of the park, closest to the corner with the fountain. She stays there to do homework, so if you want to go talk to her, that’s where she’ll be.” Luke nods slowly. “You think she’ll be able to help us?” Willie shrugs. “I don’t know, but she’s your best bet. If you want to talk to Bobby, or be seen by anyone who isn’t in this room, you’ll have to talk to her.”
After Willie leaves, the band discusses the matter for a while longer. Julie still isn’t sure that getting revenge on Bobby is the best of ideas, but she is eventually convinced, albeit pretty reluctantly. Besides, the boys have given up on revenge- now, they just want to speak to him and know why he took credit for all their music, what could have driven their former bandmate and friend to erase their legacies forever.
So, the band finds themselves heading to the park. Julie has to hurry out of school to make it over to the park in time to meet this mysterious girl, and the boys catch up with her, walking the remaining distance together.
When they first find the park bench, it’s empty. “I guess we wait.” Reggie says, slumping down onto the worn wood seats. Julie is about to sit next to him, but then she stops when she hears a voice calling her name.
“Julie, is that you?” Julie turns to see a girl walking towards them, backpack slung casually over her shoulder. “Oh, Y/N, it’s so good to see you! I feel like I haven’t talked to you in, like, forever.” Luke walks over to Julie, peering over at the girl. “Is this our girl?” Julie shakes her head imperceptibly. Just another school friend, Luke guesses.
Then, strangely enough, the girl turns to Luke. “Hi!” She starts to extend a hand, but then stops when she notices the confused looks of both Julie and Luke. Julie stares at Y/N, shocked. “You can see him?”
For just a moment, there’s this look in Y/N’s eyes, like she’s just come to a realization that she’s made a terrible mistake. She quickly pulls back her hand. “Oh, sorry, I thought I saw a friend of mine across the street. I don’t see him anymore, whoops.” Despite her casual explanation, she still looks unsettled.
“Well, you know what, I had better get going. Homework, you know?” With that, Y/N walks hurriedly out of the park, not even giving Julie a chance to say goodbye. Reggie speaks up from the park bench. “Well, that was weird.” Luke nods slowly. “Yeah. Give me a minute, I’ve got to check something out.” With that, he poofs out of the area, reappearing on the sidewalk outside of the park.
Beside him, Y/N is speed walking away from the park bench, evidently headed home. When Luke appears next to her, she flinches, but keeps walking. Luke starts walking too, and calls out to her. “Hey, I know you can hear me!” Y/N just squares her shoulders and walks even faster.
This isn’t going anywhere. Luke gives up, poofing into the space on the sidewalk directly in front of Y/N and forcing her to come to a complete stop to avoid hitting him. Now that he’s just a foot or two away, Y/N finally looks at him, staring at him as if he’s, well, a ghost. Luke grins.
“So you can see me.” Y/N glares at him. “I’d prefer not to.” She sidesteps him and tries to keep going, but Luke just moves in front of her again. “Hey, wait up. We need to talk to you. I know you can see ghosts, so how about we have a nice little conversation? You know, two friends just having a chat?”
Y/N looks at him suspiciously. “Look, there are good ghosts and there are bad ghosts. I don’t know who you are or what you want, so please, just leave me alone.” She starts walking again, this time even faster. Luke sighs, trying to think of anything to do to stop her from leaving.
“Willie sent us!”
That does it- she stops in her tracks and turns around. “Willie sent you?” Luke beams, glad to have made an impression. “Yeah, he told us to come find you. Something about how you could see lifers?” Y/N laughs lightly, a charmingly pretty sound. “You should have just started with that. Willie’s a good friend of mine. If he sent you, then you’re cool.”
Y/N fixes Luke with a pensive stare. “Okay, how about this- go back to Julie and the two other boys- I’m assuming they’re ghosts as well? Anyways, tell Julie to meet me at my house with all three of you. She knows where it is. Sounds good?” Luke nods, and poofs out. Seconds later, he reappears, and Y/N looks at him in confusion. “Oh, I’m Luke. By the way.” Y/N smiles at him, a genuinely happy smile. “I’m Y/N, but I guess you knew that already.” Luke stays there for just a heartbeat longer, drinking in the sight of her, and then poofs out one last time.
By the time Julie and the boys make it to Y/N’s house, she’s already unpacked her backpack and has her homework on the counter in front of her. When she hears them at the front door, she quickly moves it to a folder at the side and lets them in.
“So, what is it exactly that you want me to do for you?” Luke leans his arms on the kitchen counter. “Willie told us that you could see ghosts. We were hoping that you could tell us how you did that so we could make another lifer see us too.”
Y/N sighs. “That’s pretty complicated. Honestly, I’m not entirely sure how I was able to see ghosts myself. It all started when my aunt died. I remember holding a picture of the two of us in my hands, and wishing that I could see her one last time to say goodbye. The next thing I knew, she was standing there in front of me.”
Alex frowns. “That’s it? You just had to look at a photo and want to see her?” Y/N shrugs. “That’s it. I’ve been able to see ghosts ever since, even ones that weren’t my family. That’s how I met Willie- he was out skateboarding alone and he nearly hit me. When I complained, he looked confused and I found out he was a ghost.”
Alex grins. “That’s basically what happened to me, too. Willie’s so cool.” Luke nudges his friend with his shoulder. “Can we get back on track? So all we have to do for Bobby to see us is give him a photo?”
Y/N drums her fingers lightly on the kitchen counter. “Probably. I mean, that’s what happened for me.” Luke nods, clapping his hands together. “Then that’s what we’ll do.”
They make a strange group heading up the steps to Carrie’s house- two girls, three ghosts, one big plan to change Bobby’s life. When Carrie answers the doorbell, she rolls her eyes. “What do you want?”
Julie speaks first. “We need to see your dad. It’s something about his old band.” Carrie squints at her suspiciously. “Is that so?” From behind her comes a voice, echoing out from the living room.
“Let them in, Carrie. It’s alright.”
It’s strange hearing Bobby’s voice. It’s deeper now, deeper than it was when Luke had known him in Sunset Curve. It also has this almost dusty crack to it. Luke realizes it’s because he’s older, and it makes him shudder for a second. Would he have sounded like that too, if he hadn’t died? Would their lives have been any different?
Luke is distracted by thoughts of past and future by Julie and Y/N being ushered into the house. Bobby is sitting on a couch in the living room, but he rises to greet them, turning off the TV as he goes.
“So, you’re here to talk about my old band? How’d you know about Sunset Curve?” Julie clasps her hands together. “Oh, they used to practice in my mom’s old studio. I found this photo of them, actually.” Julie pulls a picture out of her pocket and hands it over to Bobby, who flinches ever so slightly when he sees the boys in the photo.
Luke still remembers that day. They were exhausted, hungry and practically broke, having just barely started to sell their debut album. The photo was taken by the owner of some small coffee shop, who had heard their music and wanted proof that the band had visited his shop. The owner had a photo, and the band had kept one, too.
It’s funny, seeing them in that photo. Luke, Alex, and Reggie don’t look any different, of course, but standing next to them is a young Bobby. How odd that they had all been staying permanently young while he was the only one to change.
Bobby sighs. “We had some good days with that band.” Y/N nods. “Do you miss them? I mean, being a part of the band?” Bobby inclines his head. “They died too young. They should have been here with me, and I’ll always regret that.”
From across the room, Alex turns from studying an award to shout at the back of Bobby’s head. “Clearly you didn’t regret it enough to steal all of our music!” Y/N’s mouth twitches for a second, but she manages to hide the smile long enough to continue speaking to Bobby.
“Would you have continued to make music with them if they were alive today?” Bobby shrugs. “I don’t know. I don’t know if we would have been different or not. I wish they were here, so I could ask them, but that’s one thing I’ll never get to know.”
Luke freezes. Bobby did it- he wished to see them and he was looking at the photo, just like Y/N said. Luke walks quickly over to him. “Bobby? Can you see me?” Bobby just keeps staring at the photo. “We look so young there. We were too young.” Luke’s voice breaks. “You can’t see us. It didn’t work?”
Y/N’s face falls. “Well, that’s really all we had to say. Uh, goodbye.” Bobby hands over the photo, issuing goodbyes of his own. Once they’re out of the house, Y/N speaks in a voice barely over a whisper. “I’m sorry it didn’t work. I guess I’ll just go home.”
She waves goodbye, and then starts heading away. The rest of the boys wave, still dejected, but Luke can’t look away from the sad hunch of Y/N’s shoulders. “Tell you what, I’ll be right back. I’ll meet up with the rest of you at the studio?” With that, Luke poofs away.
He waits until Y/N’s a sufficient distance away from the rest of the band to poof back into existence next to her. Y/N looks up when he appears. “Hey. I wish it worked.” Her voice is still quiet.
Luke sighs. “Me too, but it’s alright.” Y/N shakes her head. “I’m sorry things didn’t turn out well. I wish I hadn’t wasted all your time- I should have known that it wouldn’t work.” Luke takes Y/N’s hands, stopping her in place.
“Hey. This wasn’t a waste of time. None of this was a waste of time.” Y/N looks away. “Of course it was. You trusted me, and I should’ve been able to make it work.” Luke gently puts his hand on her cheek, forcing her to look back at him.
“I’m not talking about that. I’m talking about meeting you. The whole thing with Bobby doesn’t matter, I’m just glad I got to get to know you. You’re a really cool person, Y/N, and I wouldn’t change that for anything.”
A slow smile is spreading across Y/N’s face, a light, golden glow of a smile. “I’m glad I got to meet you too.” Luke smiles back. “So, can we still hang out after this?” Y/N laughs. “Of course. See you after school?” Luke nods. “See you then.”
With that, she turns and continues walking down the street, but this time her disappointed steps are replaced with a happy stride. Luke watches her go, and can’t help but smile.

You trudged down the empty hallway, your body slumped with exhaustion and feet hurting from wearing the ridiculously high heels to impress a man who never showed up. The silence in the empty halls was deafening unlike the crowded diner which was buzzing with lovestruck couples on the fine evening of Valentine’s Day. When you reached his door, you were barely hanging in there. Hesitantly, you knocked twice, immediately cursing yourself for fucking up his Valentines Day as well.
“Y/N?” Jensen tilted his head in confusion at your dejected state. “What happened?”
“I am done with dating.” A stray tear rolled down your cheek as you replied. Jensen pursed his lips as he opened the door wider to let you in. He threw an arm over your shoulder, guiding you towards the couch.
“Mike was a douchebag.” He said, as you plopped down on the blue couch.
“His name is Mark.” You rolled your eyes at him, “I dressed up all for nothing. I am done trying to find the perfect man. I will get a cat and become a cat lady. At least it will show up when we have a cat date with cat food and pizza.”
“You can't just swore off dating because Macaroni didn't show up.” Jensen smirked. “You just haven't met the right person yet.”
“I got stood up thrice within a span of two months. I surely know how to pick them.”
“Sweetheart, I'm so sorry but I know you'll definitely meet the right person. It's just a matter of time.” He rubbed your arm as you snuggled closer to him. “Should we order takeout? I am starving.”
“Mhm. I wouldn't mind some chinese. I'm sorry that I fucked up your plans for the night.” You said.
“I didn't exactly have anything better to do. Spending time with you is much better than third wheeling Jared and Gen.” He chuckled.
“What am I doing wrong, Jay? Something is definitely wrong with me or the entire male population is a douchebag.” You sighed, as Jensen took out his phone to place an order in your favourite Chinese restaurant.
“Y/N/N, nothing's wrong with you and there are good men out there in the world.” He said.
“They are all taken.” You replied, nonchalantly.
“I'm not.” Jensen said and your heart skipped a beat at his words.
“Maybe I was too blind to notice it,” you wanted to say instead you blurted out, “You're my best friend, Jensen.”
His hands dropped to the side as he visibly tensed up. An unbearable silence followed the awkward conversation. You could barely look at the actor beside you who was staring off into the distance, his mouth opening and closing like a fish. Fortunately you were both saved from further conversation by the delivery guy.
Tumblr media
You bit down on your lip to stop the yawn that was threatening to leave as you pretended to listen to the man in front of you complain about his work life. You hummed along to the man’s words as your mind reeled back to that night at Jensen's house. You still didn't know why you didn't speak about your true feelings. Even though his little confession didn't break you two up, whenever you used to hang out, a discomfort lingered in the air and so you had ditched the weekly movie night the day before.
After another painfully long hour, your extremely bad date came to a very fortunate end. As a sign of politeness, you had agreed with Luke, your date, when he had offered to drop you at your doorstep. With no promises for a second date, you had left Luke’s car after successfully dodging his attempt at a kiss. You sprinted across the usually empty hallway and found yourself in front of Jensen's room. You knocked at his door.
“So I was on a date and oh god, time wasn't passing by at all! Luke was such a boring guy. I surely do know how to pick the guys- and I'm so sorry I didn't come yesterday for our weekly movie night-” You rambled on as soon as Jensen opened the door without giving him a chance to pitch in his two cents.
“It's okay.” He finally spoke but his words were soon forgotten when you saw the half-naked brunette standing behind him, glaring at you.
“I'm sorry,” You turned your attention to the man in front and noticed the swollen lips, tousled hair and his unbuttoned jeans, “I didn't know you had company.”
“Next time try to call before you barge in complaining about yet another bad date.” Jensen grumbled, rolling his eyes before he shut his door to your face. You stared at the closed door, crestfallen as tears started to pool in your eyes. You made your way back to your room which was on the next floor in the same apartment building all the while wondering if your insecurities had really messed up a good friendship.
Tumblr media
Jensen had neither heard nor seen you since he had closed the door on your face. He winced every time he remembered how rudely he had pushed you out of his apartment when Jessica was over. He was finally trying to move on since now he knew how you felt. Jensen was definitely hurt when you made it clear that you didn't reciprocate his feelings but he didn't hate you. You were still his best friend so it hurt when you had started to distance yourself from him, even ditching him on your weekly movie night. All that bottled up frustration had turned into anger when you had knocked on his door the next night to complain about your boring date but he still regretted the way he had told you off.
“Is Y/N going to come to Gen’s party?” Jared asked his tv brother during one of the takes.
“I don't know. Why don't you ask her yourself?” Jensen snapped as he went back to reading his script.
“What happened?” The hazel eyed actor frowned at his friend's behaviour.
“I haven't talked to her in weeks nor have I seen her.” Jensen grumbled.
“You two are like the Siamese twins and now you are saying you haven't even talked to her? Dude, what happened?” Jared asked. “Maybe you should talk to her.” He said after Jensen opened up about what happened.
“I have called her. Dozens of times. She is not picking up.” He scoffed.
“Gen is going to invite her I suppose. Maybe you can talk to her then.” Jared shrugged as they were called back on to set.
Jared was right about everything. You were invited to Gen’s backyard birthday party and so was Jensen. You had hesitated before you finally made up your mind to go to the Padaleckis' because you knew someday you had to face Jensen. When you had returned home that night, you had realised why no one was ever good enough for you since the perfect person for you was right in front of you but your insecurities had made you blind. You knew you had missed your chance when you had caught him with the brunette but what hurt more was when he shoved you out of his apartment.
Jensen had called you a dozen times but you hadn't picked up. You didn't know what to say and the longer you stayed away from him, your feelings for him grew stronger so instead you started to avoid him like plague, trying your best to move on.
The clinking sound of bottles behind you pulled you out from your deep thought.
“Hey.” Jensen awkwardly said.
“Hi.” You returned the same awkwardness.
“You weren't picking up my calls. I'm sorry for the other night.” He said, his gaze quickly dropping to the floor.
“It's all right.”
“No it's not. Then you wouldn't have avoided me.” He said. “I know things have been awkward since that night but no hard feelings. It's perfectly okay if you don't feel the same. I just want my best friend back.”
“I do feel the same.” You muttered quietly which made him look up to you. Jensen stared at you dumbfounded.
“Then why didn't you tell me?” He finally said.
“I panicked. I got scared because you know me, I don't do well with men and I thought if we didn't work out, I would lose you.” Your lips trembled ever so lightly as you stared into his green eyes.
“You won't ever lose me.” Jensen walked up to you, “Even if things don't work out relationship-wise. I will always be your best friend.”
“I don't wanna lose you. You're my person, Jay. So I lied not realising that I had pushed you away myself.” You said.
“I will always be your person just like you're mine but I can't fight this feeling anymore. I think I'm in love with you and I don't know what to do.” He said while walking up to you.
“Maybe you do know now.” He leaned down, cupping your face, his lips hovering over yours. You closed your eyes, feeling his hot breath fan against your skin but then you felt him pull back. You opened your eyes as you saw him stare at you with a look of regret in his eyes.
“I can't.” Jensen sighed.
“Why?”
“I have a girlfriend.” You gaped at him, heart broken into millions of pieces. Before Jensen could get another word out, you fled the scene.
“Hey Y/N.” Gen beamed. “Are you going home already?”
“Yeah I think I'm coming down with something. Sorry Gen. Happy birthday, again.” You said and wasted no time to get into your car and quickly drove back to your home.
Tumblr media
Jensen had repeatedly called you since you had fled the Padaleckis’ house but you hadn't picked up. The first two days you had hardly left your house. You had been sobbing uncontrollably. You had bared your heart and soul to the man you had fallen head over heels only to get your heart broken.
You were lying on your couch, watching a sappy romantic movie when you heard a knock on your door. Pausing the movie midway you got up to open the door.
“Hi.” The green eyed man spoke quiet as when you opened the door. The sight of him brought tears to your eyes again. He was carrying a box of chocolate and a bottle of wine. “I would have brought flowers but I know how sad you get when they start to wilt.”
“What're you doing here?”
“I heard a guy hurt my best friend so I'm here with chocolates and wine.” He smirked. You snatched the box of chocolates from his hands as you held the door wide open.
“Sappy romantic comedy? Oh sweetheart, want me to kick the guy's ass? He deserves it. No one hurts my best friend.” He said as he pulled you into a tight hug. The intoxicating smell of his cologne finally breaking you. “I'm so sorry.”
“I'm so sorry too.” You sniffled as you looked up at him. “Our timings sucked.”
“It did. Can we start afresh?” Jensen smiled.
“What about your girlfriend? I don't wanna be your ‘slutty mistress’.” You said, quoting Grey’s Anatomy which made him chuckle.
“I broke up with her. I tried to date other girls to keep you off my mind but there wasn't a single damn second when you didn't cross my mind because I am totally, completely, hopelessly in love with you.” He grinned as he leaned down to kiss your cheek.
“I am in love with you too, Jay.” You said, “Kiss me.” Jensen dropped his head as he leaned into you, capturing your lips with his. His hands travelled all the way down your body before stopping at your waist. He gripped you tightly and pulled you closer, your hands landed on his biceps as you tried to steady yourself. His teeth grazed your lips lightly, making you moan into his mouth. Your hands left his biceps, hooking themselves at the nape of his neck, your fingers tugging at his hair, eliciting a groan out of him.
“Are you trying to turn me on or are you just that oblivious?” He growled into your ear.
“Is it working?” You smirked. Jensen growled once more into your ear before pulling away from you. He effortlessly picked you up, your legs hooking behind him as he went towards the bedroom.
Tumblr media
Panting hard you tried to come down from your high as you felt him go soft before he pulled out. He placed a chaste kiss on your lips and rolled off to the side. His chest heaved as he tried to control his breathing, a soft smile tugging at the corner of his lips.
Lost in an euphoric state, you didn't notice when Jensen had left the bed to get a cloth to clean you up. After a few minutes, he returned back to bed. You laid there in his arms, naked, basking in the afterglow of what was actually the best sex of your life. Jensen was tracing tiny, imperfect circles on your arm as a sigh of contentment left his lips. Your back flushed against his chest, smiling, you spoke.
“We might be each other’s last first kiss.” You turned towards, kissing the corner of his mouth.
“No more bad dates. No more bad first kisses. You're mine.” Jensen whispered.
“You're it. You're my person. My world is a better place with you in it.” You said, snuggling against his warm chest. “I love you.”

Healed by the Music // Luke Patterson
Summary: After the fallout of reckless behaviour and forced to return back home the reader had rediscovered her love for music. Close with her family once more her band Graveyard Petals receives an offer that could turn around the band’s tarnished reputation. The only issue is not wanting to hurt those close by leaving.
Warnings: Swearing, talk of death, angst, and fluff
Words: 3.3k
A/N: The second and final part to a lovely little series I had grown to love, the first part is Drowning From the Past. I came up with the band name so if you want to use it send an ask and we talk about it. This is set after the first season and Ray can now see them after the whole Golden glow thing.
Part One - Drowning in the Past
Masterlist
Tumblr media
In the months you retreated back to Los Feliz the band had grown exponentially bringing in more revenue with merch. The social media followers grew as well with the hope of a new photo posted of you and the band. The most recent teased new music coming.
Speaking of music, it seemed to pour out of your body into two notebooks unknown to both your sister and her band—the band of ghosts that become massive fans of Graveyard Petals when Julie played full-length debut album Dahlia. Luke had even collaborated on a song for your band; his name the first of writing credits.
Now, seven months after the shameful return the band had gotten the offer of a lifetime to open for 5 Seconds of Summer on a world tour. The issue came with talking with Julie, and the guys gave you had shown your father you had healed.
"Hey, what's been up with you lately?" Julie asked, seating herself in the swing right beside you. Her hair pulled away from her youthful face.
Whenever you looked at Julie, you saw Mom with the gorgeous hair and gleeful smile that brightened a room. Even on your mom's death bed, the room flared with that same smile in every picture in albums and on the walls. Sometimes you swore the piano in the studio bath in the warm light brought by the one person that taught you and Julie to play.
"I've been thinking." You simply spoke eyes focused on the park that had been a massive part of your life.
Every year Rose and Ray Molina had brought their three children to the very park the two had met years before. Rose would bring flowers to a specific bench, and every time you asked why she had the same answer.
Little Y/N was a precocious child inquisitive of the world around her held at an arms life by her parents. Skilled at singing and natural affinity for music it worried Rose, in her eldest child she recognized something. The intense passion and talent that a particular guitarist had once displayed on a stage that would have changed everything.
"It a place of absolute joy and acceptance. Four legends came together in front of that very bench."
Rose would never know about the place had Bobby not subconsciously led her there for the first time mere hours after the devastating loss. He had collapsed to his knees, pleading for his best friends, his brothers to return. In broken sobs, he had told Rose that this park, this bench was the first place Sunset Curve played. Band fresh and still unnamed they had gotten confident enough to set up near the bench to start building a following.
Now it was eight years after the first visit with Bobby who started going by Trevor a year after the loss. The fresh-faced boy that had flirted with Rose had changed, and at that time, Rose wasn't sure it was a good or bad thing.
"It was the guys Mom left the flowers for." Julie started following your eyesight to the bench that had a fresh bouquet. A single dahlia in the middle of the flowers for your mother.
"Yeah." You softly spoke, turning to focus on the girl that had healed through music. Seeing how grownup Julie had become hurt your heart. Julie wasn't a child anymore, and you wished she never went through what you did for months.
The two Molina girls sat in comfortable silence with minds thinking the most opposite things possible.
"5 Seconds of Summer is going on tour. We should try and score some tickets when they come to LA." Julie spoke, raising one leg to rest her arm on it. The high waisted light washed jeans with paintings on them.
Your heart clenched at her excitement for a band you both adored for years.
"I know. 5SOS gave Lucy an offer for Graveyard Petals to open for them worldwide. The others are down to join, but if I'm not ready, we won't." You avoided the brown eyes burning your cheek for a second.
Julie's warm hand clasped yours in hers to jog to your car you had bought with your first paycheque. Unable to figure out her state on the possible tour, you quietly drove back home with no sound other than breathing.
"Hey!" Luke beamed as his two favourite girls, came wandering into the studio with pensive expressions and stooped shoulders.
Alex picked up on their moods almost instantly, "Are you okay?"
Your mouth opened before the loud yell of Flynn cut off your opportunity to respond and a slap smack to the back of your head. The sharp cry of pain stumbled from your chapped lips and Flynn's frustration rolling off her form.
"Flynn!" You sharply called rubbing the stinging spot with a glare outmatched by Flynn's fire. The look unlike you had ever seen on the girl with a sharp sense of fashion and unapologetic personality.
"You got asked by 5 Seconds of Summer to tour the world as an opening act!" Flynn elaborated at your confused expression, "Jules texted me. You need to do this! The amount of questions of if GP will return is outrageous! In the last two days, the band's Instagram got five thousand new followers."
The ghostly trio stayed silent as Flynn reprimanded her best friend's older sister with crazy talent. Flynn was your self appointed biggest fan with buying the first album at the store to demanding to wear newly designed merch before the drop.
"I'm enjoying being at home. I'm on good terms with Julie and Carlos, Dad doesn't look like he's gonna drop dead in disappointment when he sees me." You shrugged focusing on the discoloured mark on the ground.
"It's okay to be scared." Alex supplied smiling as Flynn nodded her thanks as the tall drummer stepped in.
After escaping the Hollywood Ghost Club (HGC), a handful of people gained the ability to see them, including Flynn. It was rather refreshing for the girl to finally interact with the guys with Julie being the middle man.
"I'm not-"You cut yourself off at the disbelief on Julie's face with her arms crossed just as your mother had done, "I nearly lost myself in the bottom of a bottle. I fucked up my relationships and tarnished both mine and the band's reputation."
Luke's warm hand came down on your shoulder in the act of support, the touch a new factor to the ghost. Your hand came to rest on his with a smile of gratitude cast to the dead boy.
"You have healthy coping mechanisms to fall back on. You'll have us to visit with the poofing ability. If you stumble, we will be here for you." Reggie informed you with his toothy grin and kind eyes.
The last piece of the puzzle clicked into place, feeling the wound close up, leaving a scar that had blistered and reopened since last year. The cheers enveloped you like their arms as you texted Lucy and the band your decision.

Dublin, Ireland 2021
"Hello, Dublin!" Your voice amplified in the large stadium of fans cheering for your band—the thud of Iris on her drum kit.
James idly stroking the strings on his dark green teal guitar your band had pitched in as a gift to him. On the opposite side of the stage was Sawyer with their custom-made gorgeous marble green and white colour.
"I hope you are enjoying yourself so far! It is our last song before the real act comes out!" You exclaimed to the boisterous crowd.
Just barely in the wing of the stage waited the band that had quickly become older brothers to you. A band that had given you a chance after the madness of your downward spiral.
"This song came out in 2018 and quickly became one of my favourites. It wouldn't be right to sing it without some friends." You continued as the guys walked onto the stage, "Without further adieu, this is Lie to Me by 5 Seconds of Summer!"
Luke Hemmings along with Calum, Ashton, and Michael ran to join your band as Iris started a sick beat. Calum and Michael already joining Sawyer and James in absolute perfect sync leaving Ashton to rock out by Iris. Hemmings, to not confuse him with Luke Patterson, came to stand next to you with a guitar.
[Verse 1: Hemmings]
I saw you looking brand new overnight
And I caught you looking too, but you didn't look twice
You look happy, oh, mmm
You look happy, oh
Hemmings angled his body to face you but not cut off the fans behind him, creating the vivid story you had done each rehearsal. The blue clashing your own eye colour holding your personalized sparkly emerald green mic.
[Pre Chorus: Hemmings & Calum]
Flashing back to New York City
Change your flight so you stay with me
Remember thinking that I got this right
Only adding backing vocals as Hemmings retreated to jam out with Calum leaving you to jump around the stage. Landing next to Sawyer they beamed with the loud stadium heard even through the in-ear monitors.
[Chorus: Hemmings & Calum]
And now I wish we never met
'Cause you're too hard to forget
While I'm cleaning up your mess
I know he's taking off your dress
And I know that you don't, but if I ask you if you love me
I hope you lie, lie, lie, lie, lie to me
Raising the mic to your lips, you came into your cue returning to the middle of the stage with Hemmings.
"Give it up for Y/N!" Ashton yelled into Iris' personal microphone.
[Verse 2: You]
It's 3 AM and the moonlight's testing me (Ah)
I know that you've been holding on to someone else
And now I can't sleep (Ah)
I ain't happy, oh
I ain't too happy, oh
[Pre Chorus: You]
Flashing back to New York City
I was done, but you undid me
Classic me to run when it feels right
The stage was charged with the chemistry the two lead singers of their respective bands all sharing grins. The cheers growing as Hemmings came closer to share the green microphone, the tech guys skillfully turning Hemmings off; no feedback sounding.
[Chorus: Hemmings & You]
Now I wish we never met
'Cause you're too hard to forget
While he's taking off my dress
I know she's laying on your chest
I know that you don't, but if I ask you if you love me
I hope you lie, lie, lie, lie, lie to me
Singing, lie, lie, lie, lie, lie
Li-li-lie, lie, lie, lie, lie
Lie, lie, lie, lie, lie
Li-li-lie, lie, lie, lie, lie (Yeah yeah)
I know that you don't, but if I ask you if you love me
I hope you lie, lie, lie, lie, lie to me
The Australian singer stepped closer to hug you quickly before finding his way to your bandmates too. The crowd all having their phones out in which the hugs would be made into edits, and the shipping would intensify.
"Dublin! You have been incredible to play for. Enjoy the rest of the concert and rock out because I will be doing so backstage." Your voice echoed over the fans with a beaming grin feeling comfortable on stage again.
"This is Easier!" Hemmings shouted as the rest of his band commenced their part of the concert just as they had the last few months.
Watching the guys perform with your own band with you was incredibly bittersweet after touring worldwide for months. The media had eaten up the sudden reappearance of the band with positive publicity increasing the popularity.
"I love this song," Sawyer spoke with a twinkle in their eyes tapping their foot to the beat. James was just barely moving his head to beat while Iris was jumping around uncaring of the people around.
"You love it because we got to collaborate on the song!" James exclaimed, tapping his hip on her thigh. Iris' 5'11 form towered over James' 5'7 height but that never caused issues with them.
James's black hair gleamed blue in the strobe lights tinting his pale complexion as well. Sawyer's hair dyed bright red pairing well with their tawny skin colour with their mocha brown irises. Iris had changed over the break abandoning her past style for a more laidback skater style.
"I'm gonna head to the bus. Grab a shower and change." You informed the band as you started retreating to where the bus was parked.
"See you soon!" Sawyer yelled with their attention halfway back on the band of guys that had given you all a second chance.
Walking down the hall with employees milling around, you barely acknowledged them other than a smile. The performing had taken a lot out of you after a fitful sleep. Carl, your band's security detail and current bouncer to the backdoor, nodded at you.
Carl's colleague would be stationed at the bus as per usual with your routine of catching one song and then leaving. Bea's hardened gaze relentless on scouring the area with her arms crossed over her chest.
"Hey, Bea." You spoke earning a grunt in response from the jaded security detail hired after adjusting back to civilian life.
You didn't have the entire story other than Bea had been in the military, but due to an injury had been medically discharged. Your manager Lucy had been the one to hire her as per the new policy of having two people of different genders on detail.
The bus was quiet as you entered flinching at the sight of your father sitting on the couch with Julie and Carlos beside him. Your mouth gaped at seeing your family after months of only FaceTime and calls.
"Oh my gosh!" You yelled lunging to hug your siblings with wide eyes matching.
Carlos had definitely grown at least two inches since you last saw him, and Julie's hair was pulled back in an intricate style. Her outfit screaming Flynn's advice but her ring was on show that matched your own.
"Surprise!" Ray exclaimed to his eldest child with pride written clear on his face, "I missed you, Mija."
"So, did I!" The cheerful voice of Luke interjected as the three boys of Julie and the Phantoms made their appearance.
Standing further back in a band shirt with Graveyard Petals was Alex's boyfriend Willie with a shy expression. He still felt incredibly guilty of delivering the boys straight into Caleb's hand and often voiced his feelings of not feeling he deserved to be friends.
"Hey, Willie. I like your shirt!" You told the tall skater who sent a shy smile.
"Still weird," Ray muttered having walked in on Reggie towel drying his hair the month before you left for tour.
It had been a very confusing and emotional time for Ray and Carlos to adapt to the new information. After Julie saved the boys and that weird golden glow happened, they had been able to make themselves visible; just no poofing in the vicinity of Ray after he nearly fainted that one time. The details hadn't been worked out yet, but Caleb was out of the picture.
"Did you catch the concert?" You questioned the group tugging on the damp t-shirt you had worn on stage. The fabric was drying after being drenched in the sweat after spending an hour under hot lights and continuous movement on stage.
"We stayed for the one last night. We stayed for your set tonight before we got Bea-"
"-she's terrified by the way," Alex interjected with a grimace on his face at the stoic young woman. The glare at focusing on her scars had truly scared the anxious drummer.
"-to let us on the bus. We wanted to surprise you and congratulate your success." Luke informed the group, "You're insanely talented by the way."
His left hand coming to intertwine with your right hand just as it had before you departed for the world tour. You had grown incredibly close to the guitarist firstly as best friends before developing into a relationship.
"We did explore Dublin for the morning. I'll forever be in Lucy's debt for sending the tickets for us." Ray happily sighed, thinking of the lovely woman that had helped Ray guide his daughter back to herself.
"I'll just hit the shower quick." You swiftly jogged to the back of the tour bus where the shower was situated near the five came rooms. The entire band each had one room and a spare for the driver.

Los Angeles, 2021
Your hair pulled away from your face you sat beside a willow tree in contemplative silence with only your guitar and notebook. You knew that in a few seconds Luke would appear for another writing session.
"I love you." Luke breathlessly spoke as he ran up to you with a great big smile.
The awe at his words blinding your thoughts from the hope you had been feeling for the last week. Luke's hazel eyes glittering in the sun and the smile bubbled onto his face.
"I love you too." The words slipped quickly off the tip of your tongue as the guitarist tugged your form into his body. Supple lips quivering on the skin of warm neck all Luke felt was gratitude.
Luke leant back to brush his calloused fingers on your cheek, "Julie got a call. Someone little birdie sent in a demo to a label."
"I wonder who that happened to be." Your smirk revealing just precisely who had sneakily grabbed the freshly recorded demo.
Lucy had always had an interest in Julie's talent in music but tabled in during the period that Rose died. The grief stealing Julie's voice and leaving behind stage fright hadn't been something Lucy would chance. The manager had always hoped Julie's voice would return.
"You gave Lucy the demo, and she passed in on to the Red Bedroom Records!" Luke was quick to tug you into his arms with a huge grin, "Julie and the Phantoms are getting signed! The owner is personally flying over on Monday to go over the contract and sign it!"
Your words muffled by his chest, "Lucy informed me about that, and she offered to manage you as well."
"Lucy is the best. She gonna mentor and give Flynn an internship to still work with the band. Thank you so much, baby." Luke whispered against the warm skin of your forehead.
"I just decided to speed up the process. Can I tell you something?" At Luke's nod, you continued, "I'm thinking in a few years to open a label of my own. I was hoping you guys and Julie would be interested in doing that with me?"
"I am so down to do that. We're gonna hire an investigator to make sure what Trevor did isn't able to happen at our label." Luke was already passionately thinking of what the hypothetical future label.
"That's perfect!" You beamed, "We could give a workshop to aid songwriting too! I thought that we could name it A Rosie Sunset. My dad called my mom Rosie most of my life and Sunset for your first band."
"I didn't think I could love you more than I did a minute ago. You proved me wrong." Luke breathless laughed before humming when your lips made contact with your own.
The warmth that had been missing the year after you mom passed away had returned, and sometimes you swore the sun shone down on you. You had no doubts it was your mom's way in heaven to hug her children. You and Julie had come to the conclusion that your mom had sent the boys into your lives.
Rose Molina, even in death, did her best to make her children happy. The three remaining members of Sunset Curve the absolute best part of her two daughters lives.

Picture Frames and Ocean Waves
Heeheehee we’re back with some St. Tweedle angst, part 1. This is not related to the newest chapter, although there will be something coming at some point related to that, don’t you worry :) Anyway, here’s Saint looking back on the day Luke left for university.
song for this fic: Castaway - 5SOS (i did say ages ago it had rk vibes)
characters by @lumosinlove. tagging @im-oknutzy-trash and @wonder-womans-ex my st. tweedle partners in crime.
Saint stared unseeingly out at the ocean. The waves crashed and melted into each other, the same grey-blue as the sky. It was cold out, what passed for winter fast approaching as September came to a close, but Saint didn’t notice the chill in the air. Nor did he particularly care. Luke’s house loomed behind him, empty save for the housekeeper, busy somewhere in the heart of it. His mom was somewhere; Saint didn’t particularly care. He cared far more about where Luke was, hundreds of miles away at university.
That last summer had crept up on them fast. Saint had always known he’d never be able to leave the island, at least not for long. And he’d always known Luke would never be able to stay. He had just never imagined it hurting quite so much.
“Hey, Tweedle,” Saint sang, pulling himself easily through Luke’s open window. He left it open a lot these days.
Luke didn’t look up from his laptop sitting before him on his bed. “Hey.”
Saint peered over his shoulder. “What’re you working on?”
“Nothing,” he replied tersely. “‘M waiting.”
“For?” Saint prompted. It was like pulling teeth with him sometimes.
“Decisions come out today. This is my first choice school.” He gestured to the screen, and Saint squinted at it.
“Oh.” Saint felt something welling up in him, some foreign feeling that choked the air from his lungs and made his heart constrict painfully. He decidedly did not like it.
“Yeah. Should be out in-” Luke glanced at the clock- “two minutes.”
“So why are you looking now?”
Luke glanced away from the screen to glare at Saint, who just smirked at him.
“I hate it when you make sense,” he grumbled. Saint grinned, and leaned down to press a quick kiss to Luke’s lips.
“Bet I can distract you for the next, hmmm 90 seconds,” he murmured. Luke looked as though he wanted to protest, but Saint cocked an eyebrow, and he seemed to give in, tilting his chin up again to catch Saint’s lips once more.
Saint had always loved kissing Luke. He was warm, comforting. Familiar. Even that first time, pushed against the wall in this very room, wrists pinned under Luke’s strong grip. Or the second time, being pelted with wind and rain in the middle of the ocean, torn apart by the storm too soon. They’d kissed many times since then, more than kissed, and yet it never got old for Saint, never lost the magic and comfort Luke brought.
“Mmph, gotta check,” Luke muttered against his lips, pulling Saint from his thoughts. Saint rolled his eyes, Luke already turned away. He raised a hand to his lips, the taste of Luke still on his tongue.
He watched lazily as Luke refreshed the page, logging in once more with a frustrated groan. But his fingers froze on the keyboard as it loaded and a letter popped up on the screen.
“I got in,” he breathed. “I got in.” He turned to Saint with wild eyes, a smile alighting his face, and Saint didn’t know what to do with that.
He tried for a smile. “Well, of course you did Tweedle.”
In the next moment, Saint found himself in Luke’s arms, falling awkwardly back against the mattress. Luke held him close, and as his body shook, Saint realized Luke was laughing.
“Why are you laughing?” Saint asked, pulling back as best he could to see Luke’s face. His eyes held more joy than Saint had never seen in them.
“Cause I fucking got in! I’m going to fucking university, Saint!”
“It means you’re leaving.”
That was the thing, wasn’t it? Luke was always going to leave, the island, his family, Saint. For a while, Saint had had a chance at keeping him. With his father in prison, Saint knew there was no chance of him leaving. But then he was released. And then arrested once more. And Luke had given up.
And Saint had lost his chance.
He wanted Luke back. He wanted him home and safe and in his arms, not off at some fucking university with strangers and a new city and not him. Of course, Saint would rather be caught dead than admit that.
He’d said it anyway. And then Luke had left.
The sun had long since set when Luke said goodbye. Saint stood beside him on the beach, watching the calm waves lap at the shore. He held tightly to Luke’s hand.
“I don’t want you to go,” Saint had whispered, words getting washed away by the breeze. But Luke heard him. He always did.
“I know.”
Saint hugged wryly. “You’re still going though. Aren’t you?”
“I have to, Saint. I can’t go back now, it’s too late. I leave in the morning.”
Saint squeezed his eyes shut, fighting down the fear and anger and pain that threatened to well up and spill out, refusing to show all the terrible weakness he always kept hidden.
But Luke always seemed to know, as he reached out to cup Saint’s cheek, warm and comforting. Saint turned into his hand, but said nothing, refusing to look at him. He knew he’d only find pity and sorrow in those eyes, and that would only make him break.
“Saint. Look at me.” Those nimble fingers lifted his chin until their eyes met. Saint immediately wanted to look away. “Don’t be mad at me. Please.”
“Why not?”
“Because, Saint! Not all of us can just stay on this fucking island! I get that you have some twisted need to stay here, but I can't. Okay? I am not you. I have to get out. And this is my way.”
Saint stared at Luke with wide eyes. He rarely snapped. Last time had been almost a year ago, at James’ house, right before that cursed storm had hit.
“Fine.”
And he turned and walked away.
When Saint looked back on it, he wished he hadn't left. He wished he’d stayed, or turned around as Luke called after him.
He wished a lot of things.
With a sigh, he turned his back on the familiar sea and walked across the Deveaux’s perfectly manicured lawn towards the house. He crept around back, to the familiar window always lit with golden light. Luke had left it open.
Saint eased the window open and climbed inside, flipping on the lamp on Luke’s bedside table. The room filled with light, reminding Saint of late summer nights spent lying on Luke’s bed together, sometimes reading, sometimes kissing.
With a sigh, he turned to Luke’s desk, and the scant few items left there. A lamp, a few pens and pencils, various knick-knacks, a few books, some photos. Saint’s gaze stopped on them. The top one was a picture Luke had taken back in February. It was of him, flipping off the camera with a smirk.
He remembered that day. The two of them had fallen asleep on the beach that night, woken at dawn by the sunlight. Saint had sand in his hair, blown to the side by the wind. Luke had smiled at him for a long moment, sun lighting up his eyes, before pulling out his nearly-dead phone and snapping a picture. But not before Saint flipped him off.
He hadn’t known Luke printed it out, wasn’t actually sure how he’d done it. There were others, of the beach, of the lacrosse fields, even one of the two of them together. He didn’t know why he’d left them there either. Or maybe he did.
Saint felt… lonely, without Luke. He had no anchor anymore, left adrift at sea, abandoned. He couldn’t help but compare Luke to his mom, leaving him behind with barely a backward glance, never giving him a second thought. It hurt, in a way he hated himself for, hated his mom and Luke and everyone else for. Not that they’d truly done anything wrong. Or maybe they had. Saint didn’t know anymore.
The morning Luke left, Saint waited for him at the docks. Boat was the only way off the island, with the airstrip long out of commission. Saint had watched Luke and his mom pull up, her car looking shiny and new as it always did. Luke had climbed out with barely a second glance, tugging his backpack and suitcase out of the trunk. Saint guessed one didn’t need much at university.
Luke didn’t see him, but that was intentional. Saint didn’t want to be seen. The night before seemed so far away, so different from the morning. He didn’t know how they’d gotten here, avoiding each other, hating each other. Well. Pretending to hate each other. Saint could never truly hate him.
With a sinking feeling in his chest, Saint watched Luke climb onto the boat and disappear below deck. He felt like a cliché movie character, waving their lover off to war or some shit, but he couldn’t bring himself to look away. Even with Luke out of sight, that pull stayed, long after the boat pulled away and became a small dot on the horizon.
He had turned away angrily, pretending the tears in his eyes were from the wind or the pollen.
His heart had cracked, the day Luke left. A part of it sailing off to some other country, some other continent. These days Saint couldn’t quite decide if he wanted it back or not. He wanted Luke back, more than he truly cared to consider. But he had given Luke a part of himself knowing full well what it might mean, what it might lead to. And he’d done it anyway, choosing to trust him in what may just have been the stupidest move in his life.
One day, he’d come back. As Saint sank into Luke’s desk chair, the picture in his hands, he could only hope that was true.

Riding Bikes Across the Street Without Looking Either Way (2/2)

Nico hadn’t slept in three days by the time he arrived at Percy’s apartment late at night, around two days after he’d left home. He’d barely stopped along the way, so when Annabeth opened the door for him, she looked like she’d seen a ghost. (At this point, Nico felt like he might as well be one.)
“Oh my god,” Annabeth said as she grabbed Nico’s shoulder to pull him inside, drawing him straight into a hug. “Neeks, you look like shit. Are you-- Are you bleeding?”
Nico refrained from reaching up to check his head, and looked to the side in an attempt to stop Annabeth from looking too closely, though she took his face in her hands and turned his head back the other way. “I’m fine,” Nico muttered when Annabeth gasped.
“You are not,” she argued. “You’re going to the hospital.”
“I just drove for two days, I don’t wanna drive anymore,” Nico told her. “Can’t I sleep first?”
“Oh, you are not driving like this,” Annabeth said as she started further into the apartment. “You probably shouldn’t have driven in the first place! Wait here. Percy just put Luke down for the night, but he’ll take you.”
Then Annabeth disappeared around the corner, so Nico stood in the doorway with his hands stuffed into the pockets of his coat. He let his eyes fall shut and his head tip forward, and just about fell asleep standing up until his body started to lean, and he startled awake to catch himself. When he opened his eyes, Percy was there with his coat in hand and concern written across his face.
Nico blinked up at him, and Percy seemed to take that as his invitation to draw Nico in for a hug. Nico flinched back when Percy got too close to the wound on the side of his head, so Percy jumped back like he’d been shocked. “Dude,” Percy whispered, his eyes full of something like pity that made Nico’s stomach turn. Percy pulled on his coat and held out a hand. “Alright, give me your keys.”
For a second, Nico didn’t move. He wanted to argue, to say he was too tired and that they could just go in the morning, but he didn’t want to get hit again. (Percy wouldn’t hit him, would he?) Nico took the keys out of his pocket and dropped them into Percy’s hand.
They walked down to the road and got into Nico’s car. It wasn’t until they were a few minutes down the road that Percy tried asking what happened, though Nico wasn’t very willing to share. He hadn’t told Percy much more than things have gotten worse and I’m coming to New York, so he was sure that Percy was more worried for him than he was letting on. Percy’s mind was probably reeling over all the different things that might have happened to leave Nico in such a state, but Nico couldn’t bring himself to say it.
He let Percy guess, though he never got very specific. Percy had narrowed it down to Hades and drinking, though Nico knew those weren’t hard to figure out.
When they sat down in the hospital’s waiting room, Percy finally said, “You know you’ll have to tell the doctor what happened, right? I mean, maybe they can help you, like, file a police report or something.”
Nico was shaking his head before Percy had even finished talking. “I don’t want to file a report,” he insisted. “I don’t… I don’t wanna think about it anymore, and I don’t want him to know where I am.”
“Oh. Right, of course,” Percy said quietly, then wrapped an arm around Nico’s shoulders to bring him into a side-hug. “Well, you can stay with me and Annabeth as long as you need to, okay? We’ve got a shitty couch with your name on it, and we’ll make sure your dad never finds you.”
“Thanks,” Nico whispered, and his head fell onto Percy’s shoulder. “Um, and can you do me a favor?”
“Yeah, of course.”
“When we get back to your place, can you call Seph? Just to let her know I got here safely, but...don’t say where I am. And then delete her number. Maybe block it, too.”
Percy rubbed his arm. “Yeah, man, I can do that.”
A moment later, Nico’s name was called, and he tensed. “Will you come back with me?” he asked Percy as he got to his feet, and Percy nodded. A nurse took them into the emergency room and had Nico sit on one of the beds to wait for the doctor.
Another minute or two passed before a man with curly brown hair and a lab coat approached and said, “Hi there, Mr. di Angelo. I’m Doctor Markowitz, and I’ll be taking care of your examination before my supervisor comes over. It says on your form here that you have a head injury, do you want to tell me a little more about that while I take a look?”
Nico ducked his head and shrugged. Markowitz glanced toward Percy, who said, “He doesn’t want to talk about it.”
“Okay, noted,” Markowitz said as he pulled on a pair of gloves. He stepped up to Nico’s side and located the wound quickly, carefully brushing away Nico’s hair to get a better look at it. “Can you at least tell me what made the wound?”
“A glass bottle,” Nico muttered, and averted his gaze when Percy’s eyes widened.
“Glass?” Markowitz repeated, then took a closer look. “Well, it doesn’t look like there’s any broken pieces in here, so that’s good.”
“The bottle didn’t break,” Nico replied. “I don’t think.”
“Must’ve been one heavy-duty bottle to hit you this hard and not break,” Markowitz commented, and Nico suppressed a flinch. “Alright, hang tight for just a minute while I call my supervisor over. I’m thinking you’re going to need a CT scan to rule out a concussion, and possibly an X-ray to make sure your skull is all in one piece. I’ll be right back.”
As soon as the doctor was out of sight, Percy turned to Nico and asked, “He hit you with a glass bottle?”
Nico folded his arms over his stomach, one hand wrapping around his other arm. He didn’t respond. He didn’t have time to, either, before Percy’s phone started to ring.
“It’s Annabeth,” he said, “probably just checking in. I’ll be right back, okay?”
And then Percy was gone, too, and Nico’s hand gripped tighter. He could hear Percy at first, answering the call and saying that they’d already talked to a doctor, but then his voice dropped lower and Nico had to strain to hear it.
“He’s not acting like himself,” Percy whispered. “It’s like he’s fifteen again, he’s barely even talking to me.” A pause, and then, “Can that happen? Can something like this make him, like, regress, or whatever?” Nico’s fingernails began clawing at his skin. “Oh, the doctor’s coming back. I’ll let you know what’s up as soon as I can.”
On top of a moderate concussion, Nico had a skull fracture, was severely dehydrated, and had reached the point of exhaustion that the doctors were surprised to still see him upright. Nico declined an IV drip of fluids and something that would help him sleep, insisting that he just wanted to leave, so Percy drove him home with a prescription that basically boiled down to rest.
Nico passed out on the couch as soon as they were inside, and didn’t wake for almost twenty hours. When he did finally awaken, he got up to find Annabeth in the kitchen making dinner.
“Hey, Neeks,” she said as she stirred a pot of pasta. “How are you feeling?”
“Fine,” he replied, folding his arms across his stomach and eying the stove. “Can I help?”
Annabeth raised an eyebrow at him. “Shouldn’t you be resting?”
“I just did.” Nico’s nose scrunched up at the idea of sitting on that couch any longer. “I’m rested. So, can I help?”
“Why don’t you see if you can help Percy with Luke, instead?”
Nico hesitated. “But I like cooking.”
“Do you like babies?”
“I...don’t know.”
“Well, if you’re going to be staying with us for a little while, then I’d like to know that you’re comfortable around my son,” Annabeth told him. “You never know, I might ask you to babysit. So, go hang out with Luke, and I’ll shout for everyone when this is ready.”
Nico huffed and said, “Fine,” then turned out of the kitchen. Before he could fully leave, though, he stopped himself and said, “Actually, um. After dinner, do you think you could help me with something?”
“Maybe,” she replied, glancing at him out of the corner of her eye. “What is it?”
“I need to change my phone number.”
Annabeth nodded. “Yeah, we’ll figure that out.”
As it turned out, Nico got along with Luke just fine. It was almost easier than hanging out with adults, he realized, because he didn’t feel the need to try to hold a conversation. Luke could only say a handful of words, anyway. Nico spent a good half hour just holding blocks whenever Luke gave them to him.
As dinner came and went, Nico learned what sorts of things Luke could and couldn’t eat, and then later on watched how to go about putting Luke to sleep at night. Apparently parenting was easier than people made it seem. How had Hades messed up so bad?
When the living room was once again baby-free, Annabeth sat down with Nico to help him figure out how to change his phone number. Percy was laying across the floor for some reason, and had been asking Nico about college in an attempt to get his mind off of running away from home. Unfortunately, that wasn’t really something Nico wanted to talk about, either.
“So, do you need to, like, transfer to a new school or something?” Percy asked as he tossed one of Luke’s toys into the air above him. “You know, since you can’t go to class.”
“It’s all online,” Nico replied. He was watching Annabeth work from the opposite end of the couch because the brightness of his phone screen hurt his head. “I talked to somebody at NYU last summer about doing all online classes.”
“Are you sure you’ll be able to do that?” Annabeth asked. “You can’t even look at your phone long enough to see who’s texting you.”
“And that doctor said you need to avoid screens for at least a week, didn’t he?” Percy added.
Nico felt his heart rate rise as his anxiety spiked again. “Well, what day is it?” he asked, hoping his voice wasn’t shaking as much as his hands were. “Maybe I’ll have time to rest before my classes start.”
“It’s Wednesday, the…” Percy drew out the last word as he pulled out his phone, “...sixth. When do your classes start?”
Nico dropped his head into his hands. “Two days ago.”
“Okay, no big deal,” Annabeth said without raising her eyes from her laptop screen. “Just email your professors to explain the problem, and ask for an extension on anything you missed.”
“But I won’t be able to do anything for another week, and at that point, I’ll be two weeks behind in, like, half of my classes,” Nico complained, scrubbing his hands over his face and then scraping his hair back from his face. “And then what if I can’t catch up? Maybe I should just take the semester off.”
“Alright, take a breath.” Annabeth reached over and set a hand on Nico’s arm, but he flinched out from under the touch. “I think you should sleep on it. There’s no need to make such an impulsive decision.”
Nico pulled his knees up to his chest and dropped his gaze to the floor. “No. It’s better if I drop the classes now instead of having to withdraw later. I’ll just start up again in the fall.”
He glanced up again just in time to see Annabeth and Percy sharing a worried look. He grabbed onto his arm and squeezed.
The apartment was too small for three adults. Maybe if Nico hadn’t had to sleep on the couch, then he would’ve been less of an inconvenience to Percy and Annabeth. He tried to make up for it in other ways. He cooked whenever he could, and he washed the dishes every night. Nico was trusted enough to look after Luke on his own for short periods of time - if Percy needed to run out to the store while Annabeth was in class or at work, usually.
Still, Nico was in the way. He hadn’t quite assimilated into their home, and he’d heard them whispering late at night when they all should have been asleep that money was tight.
Things came to a head when Nico finished off a pot of coffee one morning, assuming that the others had gotten their share. He was feeding Luke so that Annabeth could get out the door in time for class when Percy stumbled into the kitchen, half-awake and already grumpy. He grabbed a mug out of the cabinet before reaching for the empty pot and freezing at the sight.
He slammed the pot back into place, and Nico flinched.
“Damn it, Nico, did you drink all the coffee?” Percy snapped.
Nico sunk in his seat, hoping to appear as small as possible. He watched Percy pick up his mug again, and imagined it shattering against his skull. He wound his arms around his stomach and ducked his head.
“The least you could do is make another pot,” Percy continued. “God.”
“Sorry.” Nico pushed his chair back, the legs screeching against the floor and making him flinch again. “Sorry.” He was up on his feet one second, and then he blinked, and he was in the living room. He could hear his pulse in his ears. His head darted back and forth, but there was nowhere to hide.
Oh god, why wasn’t there anywhere to hide?
He couldn’t hide in the bathroom, because Annabeth was in there. He couldn’t hide in either bedroom, because the doors didn’t have locks.
He went into Luke’s room anyway. Nico figured he would have a better chance at hiding underneath the crib then he would Percy’s bed. And then, when he shut the door behind himself, he saw the window.
The fire escape.
Nico pulled the curtains loose and climbed out the window before sliding it shut. He heard Percy shouting for him as he sat down on the nearest step. He almost got up and ran down the fire escape just to make sure he wouldn’t get hit. Instead, he stayed perfectly still to ensure that the creaking of the fire escape wouldn’t give him away.
He only wished he’d brought a jacket.
Nico was blowing on his fingers to keep them warm when the window slid open. He must have already been frozen to the step, or maybe it was the panic that kept him from jumping up and running away.
“Nico,” Annabeth breathed with a sigh of relief. She held a hand out to him. “What the hell are you doing out here? Get inside, it’s freezing!”
Nico hesitated. “Is...Percy gone?”
Annabeth frowned, waving her hand impatiently. “What are you talking about? Why would he be gone?”
Nico stuffed his hands under his arms and ducked his head. Of course Percy wouldn’t be gone. He lived there. It was Nico that was always going to have to run away.
“Do you need him to be gone?” Annabeth asked gently.
Nico shrugged.
Annabeth sighed, and Nico tensed. She sounded annoyed. “Alright, don’t move.”
Then she shut the window. Maybe she locked it, too, so that Nico wouldn’t be able to get back inside. He would freeze to death out there, and he could finally stop being everybody’s problem.
The window opened again, and Annabeth poked her head out. “I told him to back off. He won’t come into Luke’s room while we’re in here, so would you please come back inside?” She held her hand out to him again, and this time, Nico took it. Her hand was unnaturally warm, or maybe he had let himself get colder than he thought.
Nico’s bare feet touched the carpet and he immediately dropped to the floor while Annabeth shut the window behind him. She wrapped him up in a blanket and wound her arms around his shoulders. “Tell me what happened, Nico.”
“I…” His teeth started chattering. Why was he shivering now that he was back in the warmth? “I drank the last of the coffee. I thought Percy already had some.”
“So your solution was the freeze to death in repentance?”
“He was mad,” Nico whispered, his arms tightening around his knees. “I thought he was gonna hit me.”
“Nico,” Annabeth said, her voice stern but not harsh, “you know Percy would never hit you. He loves you.”
“I thought my dad loved me.”
Annabeth pressed her forehead to the top of Nico’s head. “Neeks, this isn’t working out.”
Nico’s next breath caught in his throat, and he felt his eyes sting with the beginnings of tears.
Annabeth started rubbing his back. “I know we said that you could stay here as long as you need, but… Nico, this place isn’t big enough for all of us, and Percy and I… Our money is spread so thin already that we’re constantly stressed about paying the bills on time, and having you here too… We can’t walk on eggshells in our own home. I’m sorry, Nico. We love you, and we’re not kicking you out, but we need to start looking for another option for you. And maybe a therapist, too.”
Nico dropped his head onto his knees as his tears started to fall. “I’m sorry,” he whispered. “I’m messing everything up. I never should’ve come here, I’m sorry.”
“No, Nico, you have nothing to be sorry for,” Annabeth assured him. “And I’m glad you came here and got away from your dad. I’m glad you’re safe. And I’m sorry that Percy’s such an ass when he doesn’t get his coffee right away. I should’ve warned you about that.”
“Not your fault,” Nico muttered.
Annabeth patted his shoulder. “Not yours, either. Are you gonna be okay?”
Nico hesitated, then nodded.
“Do you think you’re ready to talk to Percy?” she asked. “I think he’d like to apologize.
“Yeah,” Nico said, still nodding. “I’m ready.”
Annabeth stood, then offered a hand to help Nico to his feet. She led the way out of the room and toward the living room where Percy was sitting on the floor with Luke, and as soon as Percy saw them, he jumped to his feet.
“Nico!” Percy exclaimed, rushing forward with his arms held out, though he froze when he saw Nico flinch. Percy glanced at Annabeth, his expression wavering and his arms drooping slightly before he asked, “Um, can I hug you?”
Nico took a step closer and nodded. Percy’s arms closed around him.
“Dude, you had me so freaked out,” Percy said into Nico’s hair. “I’m so sorry for yelling at you. I’ll try not to do it again, I promise.”
“Thanks,” Nico replied, shifting subtly until Percy released him. He took a few steps back and held his arms over his stomach again, as if defending a weak point.
Annabeth set a hand on his shoulder. “I have to leave for class, but are you going to be okay?”
Nico took a deep breath and met her gaze. “I’ll be okay.”
“Good. When I get home, we can start looking for a therapist,” she said in a way that let Nico know she also meant if that’s okay with you. “And Percy, when you put Luke down for his nap, you two should start looking for apartments.”
Annabeth pulled Nico forward and kissed his forehead. She kissed Percy on the lips, then Luke on the top of his head as she grabbed her bag, and then she was gone.
Nico didn’t move for a few minutes. Percy settled back onto the floor with Luke and eventually turned the TV on for some background noise. Nico edged his way toward the couch and sat down in the corner, curled up with his knees to his chest.
Percy reached back and tapped on Nico’s shin with his fingers. “Hey, no hard feelings, right?” he asked, his head tipping back to rest on the cushion next to Nico. “I love having you here, dude, and I’ve missed you a lot, but I’m sorry that it’s not working out. Besides, don’t you think it’ll be better to have your own place, anyway?”
Nico’s arms tightened around his legs. “I don’t...want to live alone. I don’t think I can.”
“Oh.” Percy’s gaze turned back to Luke. “I guess I always assumed that you were the type to like having your own space. Uh, okay, well, we can…” Percy hummed in thought. “We can look on...Craigslist? To find you a roommate?” He glanced back at Nico, and there must have been something about the look on Nico’s face that made Percy burst into laughter. “Okay, you’re right. Stupid idea.”
Percy scooped the TV remote up off the floor and tossed it back to Nico. “Go ahead and put on whatever.”
Nico flipped through the channel guide for a few minutes, but ended up sticking with whatever kid’s show was already playing.
“Maybe you could crash with somebody we already know,” Percy said. “We could talk to Jason or Leo, or-- No, wait, now that I think of it, I think Leo might be crashing on Jason’s couch… Hm. You can’t get a dorm at NYU if you’re not taking classes this semester… Man, the only person I can think of that has a spare room is my mom.”
Nico felt himself perk up for the first time in days. “Do you think you could ask her?”
Percy shot him a teasing grin. “You wanna live with my mom?” He looked away before Nico’s expression could fall, and shrugged. “Alright, I’ll call her after lunch. I’m sure she’d love to have you.”
Nico had his first meeting with a therapist the day before moving out of Percy and Annabeth’s apartment. It didn’t take long to pack up his belongings, mainly because he’d hardly taken anything out of his car to begin with. But when he got to Sally’s with the Jackson-Chases not far behind, they unloaded everything from his car to take inside. The guest room was a bit of a tight squeeze with all of Nico’s boxes and suitcases inside, but he had plenty of time to unpack and organize later.
He came out of the room - his room - to thank Sally and Paul a few more times, but when he stepped into the kitchen, Sally beat him to it. She pulled Nico into a hug, practically squeezing the life out of him as she did so, and kissed the side of his head. “We’re so happy to have you here, Nico,” she whispered to him. “You stay here as long as you need.”
“It won’t be forever,” Nico promised her after weaseling out of the hug. “I just need to figure some stuff out, and maybe I can try to get a dorm when the fall semester starts, and--”
Sally took Nico’s face in her hands and pressed her lips to his forehead. “Take all the time you need, honey.”
Nico felt like he might cry. He forgot what it was like to have a mom.

Alex is anxious. Then again, when is he not?
He certainly didn’t expect this to continue after he, well, died, yet here he is.
After meeting Julie, getting to perform again, Caleb’s curse, him and his boys not disappearing forever, let’s just say there’s been a lot going on. Some peace and quiet serves him right, Alex thinks.
Oh, but meeting Willie, that was also something. Something completely different, so Alex doesn’t quite know where to place this feeling fluttering behind his chest.
In all honesty, he hasn’t seen Willie since they said their goodbyes. Of course not, the shorter boy thought he would fade away. Whether that be by the hands of Caleb or their own salvation.
Alex misses him. Of course he bloody does.
Luke and Reggie’s been comforting about it, even assured him he’d see Willie again, but Alex isn’t that sure.
He doesn’t know where he is, but he’s scared. What won’t Caleb do if he finds out the skater boy helped them out of his grasp?
And, of course, because Alex is just so obvious, according to Luke, he wishes he’d said something to Willie.
Something like a reply to the shorter boy’s line in the club.
“There’s a lot to like here.” What’s that supposed to mean? Alex knows what he  wants it to mean, but he was so shell shocked, he didn’t even react. He let Willie walk away.
And, oh, “I’d do anything for you.”
Luke likes to remind Alex just how not straight that sentence was, but the irrational fear in him still can’t help those nagging doubts in his head.
But why think of those when it’s Christmas, right?
That’s how Reggie gets him out of his own head. He’s always looked forward to Christmas, sometimes with a frightening obsession, but it’s nice of him to use it as a distraction, as well.
They’re good friends. Too good. Julie too, who lets them help decorate, with Carlos as well, of course, letting him in on their little family secret with their dad blissfully unaware. Alex is sure he wouldn’t mind.
In fact, while their dad’s at work, Julie and the boys work on the Christmas tree as a team effort.
There’s barely any tree visible at this point, presents filled up on the floor, Julie taking a hold of the glass ornaments, so the ghosts don’t risk smashing anything, and themselves focusing on glitter, light chain and the like.
She teaches them to fold these paper decorations, too, and Luke laughs at Reggie’s overly eager running about.
Julie takes Luke’s hand for a moment.
It’s different now that they can actually touch, and Luke smiles shyly. Maybe that just makes Alex miss the skater boy more.
But, of course, before Christmas day, the boys want to pay a visit to their families. Reggie found both his parent’s new homes, a month after it all went down, and despite it all, it gives him some peace looking after them.
Same goes with Luke, who receives a kiss on his cheek before poofing out.
And, well, that leaves Alex. He does poof out, too, giving the brightly smiling girl a wave, despite her eyes definitely looking through his facade.
Alex knows where his family is, just as much as his boys. And that’s where he goes. He’s not quite sure how much peace, or warmth, or fulfillment that brings him, though.
He rather just deems it a necessary thing to get done.
As Alex poofs into the stark white house at the end of the road, lavender painted window sills at the courtesy of his mom, and space enough for a garden for the dog, just like the old days, he’s ready to be let down.
He’s already been that anyway, he’s used to it.
When Alex went here for the first time since they died, just a month ago, actually, he was shocked at just how little had changed.
Inside, too. Living room seemed untouched since he ran away to sleep in the garage with the boys. Only difference being the huge portrait of himself over the fireplace.
That surprised Alex, too.
His father didn’t look at him the same way since he came out, and even though his mother didn’t admit to not accepting him, the sad look she gave him hurt even more than the spiteful words said to his face, for some reason.
Alex thought he was lucky his brother wasn’t home to hear it, which is just as depressing as everything else.
They’ve stuck with the traditional Christmas family gathering, still. And just beneath his own face staring back at him, on the mantelpiece, was the angel that always had its home there for the holidays.
It’s almost like the family used his death to forget what made him run away. Or rather, made them push him out, because God knows he didn’t want to be, excuse his language, fucking homeless at the age of 17.
Is it too tragic that dysfunctional families are what tied him and the boys together, made them inseparable? Perhaps.
Alex’s mother still had that sad look in her eyes when she looked at his portrait. Well it’s fair enough, if she hadn’t acted like that when he was alive, too.
But after mulling the thoughts from his first visit over, he didn’t have the energy to be bitter anymore. He’s just disappointed in them.
And Luke and Reggie, and Julie were right every time they told him it’s his family’s loss, and immediately stopped him in his tracks when he tried to blame himself, or regret he ever told them.
Now he can sit beside that very fireplace, and observe his strained family eat of the Christmas dinner, a painful silence settled on the resident.
Way to have Christmas cheer, huh.
Except, a poof, a sound he’s oddly familiar with by now sounds from the entrance. Alex expects it to be one, or both of the boys, picking him up on the way back to Julie because he hasn’t watched the time.
It’s a boy he knows, but one he’s missed.
Willie.
He doesn’t even contain the surprise to his own head, but says it out loud, he realises, when the skater ghost is standing in the archway, looking at Alex like a lost treasure.
There’s this feeling in his stomach like the first time they met, which is insane because they’re  dead , he’s not supposed to stomach aches, or any aches for that matter.
“Hey, hotdog.”
Alex probably looks like a computer in shut down mode. It’s okay though, he supposes, since his silence doesn’t scare the shorter boy from sitting down next to him.
Okay. Calm down. Butterflies in his stomach, ghost butterflies, what the fuck?
The boy, now next to him, who’s just too pretty for Alex to process, duh, he’s been since the first day, puts his gaze on the gathering in front of them.
He can hear the fire crackling behind him, and he feels warm. Because of blushing, more likely.
Can ghosts even blush? He doesn’t have blood anymore, for God’s sake.
Alex ends up interrupting Willie when he tries to say something, stupid, yet the skater boy urges him to continue first.
“How’d you know where to find me?” he finds himself asking. Not “Where have you been?”, like a rational person. But he never claimed to be rational, did he?
Willie smiles softly. Fuck.
“I have my ways.” is all Alex gets, and instead of elaborating, he takes this as his cue to talk, “They’re not big on the holidays?”
Alex turns back to the dinner table, and the thick, uncomfortable aura.
If they knew he was there, watching them, all hell would break loose. Or if he was still alive, probably more so. He hates that thought.
He gives Willie a shrug, “They used to. I guess a dead gay son kills the mood.”
Alex got that sarcastic, borderline depressing humor from time to time. It’s not something that came with death, but perhaps, a bit more recurring now.
Reggie, the ever optimist and dork he is, always made it a mission to scold him for those kinds of jokes, and that’s what friends are supposed to do, right?
Willie looks at him. Concerned, but understanding. Alex’s not sure how he knows, but trust him, he just does.
“At least you got a portrait.”
And that’s where Alex takes his chance, “Where have you been?”
The words seem harsh, but Willie smiles again, so maybe it’s his own overthinking taking a toll.
“Avoiding Caleb, mostly.”
“Did… I-did he do something? To you?”
And the boy, an  angel , more like, knows those nervous eyes, it seems, and for some reason, thanks to whatever good forces out there, he takes his hand.
“You worry too much.” is all he says.
Well, he’s not wrong. Definitely not the first time he’s heard that statement.
Also, that’s not in any way an answer to his question, but Alex has developed a feeling of when he shouldn’t ask further.
Willie doesn’t seem as distraught as he expected. It’s weird, because just like before after all that mess, he reappears into his life- uh, well, afterlife, just as randomly as the many times before.
He’s soft. Alex doesn’t have other words to describe him, at all, like in the Hollywood Ghost Club.
And he even convinces himself to form words, an invite to Julie’s, not willing to risk the skater boy disappearing in front of him, too soon, too often, but Willie reads his mind all over again, “You wanna get out of here?”
Alex sighs in relief.
It’s warm now, the silence, because of the boy next to him. He’d rather prefer that warmth somewhere… warmer, in general. Not here.
“Please.”

Perception (Luke Skywalker x reader)
Requested by Anon: "Hi I love your writing! If you do star wars could I maybe request a cute moment with luke skywalker? something really fluffy :)"
I love star wars! I hope I got this one right, thank you for the request!
Luke Skywalker was many things. A Jedi, a hero; a savior. He had seen many hardships and lived through dangers untold. You might not have been there to witness his valiant exploits, but you'd heard all about them in the gossip that circulates the rebel base. Luke Skywalker: Jedi Prodigy. Destroyer of the Death Star and Slayer of Darth Vader. Yes, Luke was a man of many skills and heroic deeds. Perception, however, was not high on his list.
You'd recently lost count of the number of times you've tried your hand at flirting with him. Your attempts were becoming painfully obvious to the point where you were practically throwing yourself at the Jedi. You'd offered yourself on a silver platter; standing in front of him with a coy smile only to have him say, "Sorry, [Name]! I'm really late; can we pick this up later?"
It was getting to the point where your conquests were a joke across the base. Rebels and pilots alike would address you as "Mrs. Skywalker" just to rile you up.
Your patience was wearing thin and you were beginning to doubt yourself. Maybe he was just pretending to not hurt your feelings? There was the chance that he didn't feel the same as you, he could be avoiding rejection. A frown tugs at your delicate features at this thought. You'd known Luke for some time now, since the medal ceremony. You were close with Leia and she'd introduced the two of you at the after-party. You knew you were done for as soon as you met his gaze. The way his pale blue eyes stared into yours as a kind smile played at his lips set something off in you that you couldn't quite describe. When he'd bent down and kissed your palm, it hammered the final nail into your coffin. You were completely and utterly taken with the Jedi. Leia had taken note of this almost immediately, teasing you relentlessly. "I've always thought you'd make a good sister," she'd said.
You currently look in the mirror of your room and grin at your most recent plan. You'd been in the laundry room dropping off your clothes when you spotted a linen shirt folded neatly on a table. It was long-sleeved and thin, and the familiar smell from it made you smile. It was Luke's shirt, without a doubt. As your eyes drifted over the fabric, you had an idea. A sly smirk ghosted over your lips as you grab the shirt and make your way back to your living quarters.
It had taken you a while to decide what to pair with your new ensemble, but you'd eventually settled on some tight cotton pants and your more casual boots. As much as you wanted to tease the man, you couldn't exactly walk around a crowded base pant-less.
When you'd first walked into the meeting room, Leia knew immediately what you were up to. She sent you a knowing look from across the table and tries to hide the laugh that threatens to spill from her lips. This would certainly be interesting.
Luke stands to her right with Han on her left, both lost in conversation over the next course of action.
You saunter over to the table and feign interest in the blueprints before you. They were layout plans of another Empire base.
It takes Luke a moment to notice you've entered and he glances up through his lashes to peek at you. You look as radiant as ever and it never ceases to amaze him. No matter how early you were called to a meeting, you always looked well-rested and put together. It takes another glance for Luke to realize you're not in a dress today, and a third to realize what exactly you were wearing. And more importantly, who it belonged to.
He pauses, his head tilted to the side as his argument dies on his tongue. That, Luke thinks, is my shirt. Where did you get that? Han follows his gaze and raises a brow at you. "Dressing down today, princess?" You look up with mock surprise as he addresses you. "Hm? Oh, I thought I'd try a new look," you say casually, turning your attention back to the blueprints. Han cracks a smile and drags his eyes over your figure. "Looks good," he muses. You hum in response as you look over the paper in your hand. You wanted to steal a glance at Luke, but you needed to act uninterested for this plan to work. Luke tries desperately to meet your gaze and frowns when you make it clear that you're too engrossed in your work. He'd have to catch you after the meeting was over.
The meeting ended a few hours later with no decisive answer. Everyone was too divided over the next step; half the room siding with Luke and the other half with Han. You sigh as you make your way to the living quarters. You'd really hoped that Luke would say something, but perhaps he really didn't care enough to. Oh, well. You head for the laundry room with intentions to return the shirt, when someone calls your name. You turn around and fight a blush as Luke jogs toward you, a friendly smile on his face.
"Hey," he greets politely. You smile up at him and offer a small nod. "Hi." His eyes wander over your body and he clears his throat, trying not to seem too obvious. He hadn't gotten the chance to really take in your outfit earlier, being too wrapped up in arguing with the other leaders. Now, he could properly appreciate your ensemble. You looked good in his shirt, and he had no issues with admitting this. It did make his mind wander; what else of his would you look this regal in? Did you know it was his shirt you'd taken?
"I like your shirt," Luke says finally. A hot blush creeps up your neck and you find yourself unable to meet his gaze. This was what you'd wanted, right? Why were you suddenly feeling shy?
"I wanted to try something new," you say after a pause. "What do you think?"
Luke's throat feels particularly dry as he tries to think of a polite response. You were so kind and friendly towards him that he almost felt bad for having indecent thoughts. Almost.
"It looks good on you," Luke hums. "I wonder if the laundry staff know it's gone missing?" You scoff and look away as his voice adopts a teasing lilt.  "I do plan on returning it," you retort.
Luke grins and takes a step forward. "You should keep it. It looks better on you, after all."
Your fingers anxiously tug at the hem of the shirt as you muster up the courage to look him in the eyes. "Are you offering it to me?" Your words were bold, but your body language exposed your worry. You shy away from him; scared of rejection. Luke doesn't seem to notice this as he takes another step closer. "I have other colors in my closet if you'd like to take a look," he says in a joking manner. The tension in the atmosphere dissipates as you laugh, the corners of your eyes creasing. "Inviting me to your room now, Skywalker?" You take a cautious step forward and look up at him with a raised brow.
Luke hums in response, his eyes twinkling with a certain mischief that you couldn't quite place. "That has been your goal these past few months if I'm not mistaken."
You freeze, your jaw dropping as you stare at the Jedi in disbelief. "You knew?" Your statement isn't so much of a question than it is an accusation. He knew what you were doing this whole time?
Luke laughs at your shrill tone and presses forward, leaving a hair's width between your bodies. "Honestly, I had no idea. Leia had to tell me," he admits. You silently curse at your friend for revealing your intentions. Of course, she would be the one to expose you. You begin to feel skittish at his close proximity. What does this mean? Was he really going to reject you? "You weren't going to say anything?" You ask carefully. You shifted your weight from one foot to the other, prepared to bolt if necessary.
"I wanted to see what else you were planning in that brain of yours," Luke says. His looks down at you with a kind smile and you feel your anxiety slowly ebbing away. "And I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy it."
Your face burns as you look away with a small pout. "How horrible. Here I was, thinking that you didn't want me," you mutter under your breath.
You feel a warm hand rest against the small of your back, sending a shiver up your spine. Luke's arms wrap you gently as if you were a precious thing that would break should he let you go. He lifts his right hand to cradle your face, his calloused thumb stroking your cheek. "How could I not?" He murmurs, his breath fanning over your face. He's so close it's almost dizzying. You reach your hands up and press them against the small of his back to steady yourself. You look up at him, your eyes timidly meeting his gaze.
Luke's head dips down slowly, his eyes searching your face for any hint of rejection. You stretch your body eagerly, your nose just barely touching his. Luke lets out a breathy laugh at your actions before finally, carefully, pressing his lips to yours.
The kiss is short-lived but compassionate. Luke's hand moves from your cheek to cup the back of your neck, holding you as close as he can. When the two of you part, he keeps you near and rests his forehead to yours. "I've wanted to do that for a while," he says softly. Your hands grasp at his shirt, tugging him flush against you as the two of you hug. "Me too," you whisper.
Maybe your attempts had paid off after all.
