Title: An invitation to a chase

Character(s): Childe / Tartaglia (Genshin Impact)

Summary: Isekai au; It wasn't by choice that you dropped into this game. It was slow, but you slowly manage to make a living for yourself in Liyue. This was not a game anymore. Yet at the same time, you could not shake the feeling that this world had its faith already decided so you decided to become someone from the background not knowing you have gained the interest of a certain harbinger.

When you woke up you didn't know where you were...

Confused by the tall mountains and the beastly monsters that carried axes, wooden bats and shields, the small circle monsters that looked afraid when they saw you and ran away, you thought that they were familiar but at the same time in a daze unable to properly understand anything.

It was almost like a dream that you waited to wake up but... you never did.

It was with the help of travelers and adventurers passing by that you finally understood where you were. Their clothes hinted at where you were, and the names of places were another one. It was slow, but soon everything clicked together. You were sucked into a game called Genshin Impact, and you don't know how to get back.

Distraught you were after you realize that other than your clothes, you had nothing, nothing that reminded you of home or a way back. It was with the help of kind-hearted adventurers that you were able to get back up.

You knew that you were in Liyue and with the adventurers who found you here heading to Liyue Harbor. It was soon that you parted ways with them after they were sure that you knew your way around and had a place to stay.

You passed by Xinyan and Yunjin in their repetitive stages till you found Yanfei, who helped you get on your feet and make a living for yourself here.

It has been a few months since then, and oftentimes, you wondered if you should have even become friends with the characters that you once knew from behind a screen. If you were allowed to be their friend when you didn't belong here. No matter how kind Xinagling and Gouba were, they would always be a reminder to you that this was a game that you played once.

The NPCs that you helped as a traveler, even playable characters... it was somewhat nerving to see them... detailed, their struggles beside their quests that they gave to the traveler. You used to see only part of their problem before being forced away from them, unable to talk to them anymore besides a few repeating texts.

You wanted to help them, but part of you also thought that you shouldn't. That later on the traveler would come and help them which you thought would be far more appropriate than... you.

It wasn't like you didn't want to help, but in the end, you realized that they didn't ask for it and that you weren't the traveler anymore, and that you were another person altogether at this point. You didn't have the power to make everything okay again.

Instead, you just choose to be in the background, maybe a friend to Yanfei and a few others or just acquaintances for others if you ever bump into them yet faceless in the whole storyline you suspected to start soon.

So when you were out in the mountains gathering herbs, you didn't think you would see a certain person with ginger hair and blue eyes who came all the way from Snezhnaya.

He was the one who noticed you first as you froze like a deer in headlights unable to move when you meet his eyes. It wasn't like he was gonna kill you, you knew that even if he could he would not. But that never changed the fact that to you he was still dangerous.

Meeting him here all of a sudden without any notice made you unable to casually wave at the man who did so instead look away as you took off leaving him alone to wonder if he had done something wrong to a stranger. Did his wave offend you?

You thought you would never see that man again.

Again, you mentally thought it wasn't like you disliked him or anything, as much as you would fawn over or like this character in the past... it has been months since you last played the game, and the characters became all the more real to you even if you didn't want them to be... yet at the same time still just characters.

Yanfei would occasionally visit your home when you realize that she had her own problems other than what the game shows. That her words weren't on repeat, but actual genuine interest.

It made you think about the future choices that have yet to happen when Zhongli would choose to "die" in the ceremony... how much panic and worry would strike the citizens but also you. It also made you think about a certain toy seller who would cause even greater trouble and turbulence. The same man who waved at you.

It wasn't like you could stop him. You didn't have a vision, nor were you strong enough to fight him.

Choosing to stay quiet till everything passed was what you chose to do when everything would finally happen. You already knew that everything would end well one way or another with the help of the traveler.

You didn't expect to see him again in the mountains. This time, he was sitting on the grass as if he had finished training just a few moments ago. With how messy the whole place around him was? No doubt.

Hidden behind the trees, you stared at the man who you thought didn't notice you, carefully taking a step back you plan to leave.

"You know, it was quite rude of you to just go when someone greets you."

You flinched as you glanced back at him, a cheerful smile on his face.

You were caught.

"I am sorry... I was in a hurry back then." You tried to make an excuse, not making a move to go towards the man nor stepping away to make a run for it. It would be too suspicious. Tho... he probably already was suspicious of you.

"Hmmm, I am not so sure about that."

You watched as he sat up still watching you, "While I don't exactly think that you are a spy seeing how concentrated you were in collecting those herbs, you looked like you almost like a rabbit frozen in place as if I have come to bite you." The smile never once went down, but it also never reached his eyes.

"Tell me, have we met before? Your eyes recognized me when you saw me, but I don't remember ever seeing you."

You bite your lip as you look away. Were you really that obvious? You wondered, but you shook your head. "I don't recall ever meeting you in my life. It was because I experienced an… unfortunate event with the fatui that I now choose to just avoid them." You told him... somewhat honestly…

Well, half truth and half lie really… You did experience events from the game that almost made you dislike the fatui when you watch them cause so much trouble. But you also meet a few here, and while most ignore you, some could be rather...

So, really, you aren't wrong. You just hoped that Childe actually buys into the story enough to leave you from now on.

"Hmmm… Is that so. Well, maybe you can tell me who it was, and I will go check?" ...Childe was definitely trying to do something here. "That won't be needed." You said almost harshly. You were nervous.

"Now, now. If they made a mistake and hurt the passerby for no reason, then they are definitely at fault for it and would need punishment." Childe raised his hand, the other on his waist. "That isn't needed." You told him raising your hand as if to stop him, "It was long ago now, and I do not remember the person's face, nor do I care to get some sort of revenge."

Rather than a random fatui, you prefer if someone could knock some sense into the man in front of you. Not that you would say that.

You already packed your bags and were planning to head out as soon as you heard that Monstade was saved by the traveler and head there for a vacation away from the chaos here. You saved some mora just for this reason, too.

"Ahh, alright. Then how about this. How about I hang out with you whenever you go to the mountains? Think of it as an apology from the fatui." Childe said, taking a step closer still with a friendly smile. You lightly bite your tongue, wondering why he was so insistent. There was absolutely nothing special about you to warrant such interest like this. "That would not be needed."

"Well, but had I not come here a moment or two later, you would have already been hurt by the hilichurl camp here," Childe told you, his smile widening almost like a Cheshire cat. Quickly, you looked to his side, and your eyes widened in surprise. Of course, the mess was from a hilichurl camp.

"Don't worry too much about it they are all down. While you gathered herbs, I can clear out the place for you, and if there is a particularly hard place to get to something, I can also help you out." Childe made the deal sweet in his own opinion, yet when he raised his hand for a handshake you looked into his eyes and noticed that he still was suspicious of you, and you knew that if you declined here he would try other means to watch over you.

You frowned at him again, "I already told you that I do not wish assistance from the fatui."

"Hmmm, okay there. I will just be right beside you, not as a protector or anything like that, but more on an accidental meeting." You have been left speechless at how shameless this man was. All the while, he continued to smile as if he didn't say anything wrong.

And as much as you hated it, he kept his promise or whatever you would call it. Whenever you would go to the mountains, he was always there acting as if he was just going to head up too and that the two of you should hang out. Or that time you met him on the way, and he decided to follow you up again when you clearly saw that he was actually going down it. When you change the time you usually go up the mountains thinking you could outmaneuver him... he was there waiting for you.

It was unnerving really how often he followed you, as you would now see him in the market and the streets of Liyue Harbor. "Ah! I didn't expect to meet you here, comrade." Childe would openly greet you while you want nothing more than to look away. You didn't doubt that he had eyes everywhere... he probably placed a spy or two on you if he was actually suspicious of you.

Yet somehow you thought that this was different, that the eyes on you weren't cause you were a spy but something else. Not when you realize that Childe's eyes were always on you, no matter what you do, he was always there...

What did he notice...

It was always amusing watching you search for that moment to scurry away like a mouse whenever the two of you meet. It was something that Childe always took pleasure teasing you with.

You have always been like this except to a way to various degrees even with others but more so with him. There was always a distance between you and the world that he craved to figure out. When he first came to Liyue a few months ago, Childe had seen you a few times walking around the streets. You weren't special well, not at first, while vision holders tend to have their own distinct style. You choose something that blended with the crowd and their fashion.

He didn't really care much, just a moment thought and then to the next topic he had to deal with. But he couldn't help himself but look at you again after he noticed you on the side of the street with some vision holders. You guys were talking for a bit, but Childe noticed that stare you had almost knowing, yet no words of it came out of your mouth.

A few times later, he saw you by chance. You sometimes had this distant look in your eyes as you watched the ships come and leave the docks. Sometimes, it was a cautious look or maybe sometimes impatient, but you were always watchful... waiting. You were always looking for so clues, what he wasn't sure but had as time passed gotten curious.

The first time you saw him, he thought that you would maybe wave back as he raised his hand, yet much to his surprise there was recognition in yoru eyes, and then the next thing you did was run away.

You knew him, even tho he had no remembrance of ever meeting you before he noticed you. There was a certain thrill that beat in his heart when he realized that you knew more than you let on.

And to him, it was an invitation to a chase.

He followed you almost ever you went ever since then, mildly disappointed when his duties call for him as he had to for a short put a cause to the chase. But the more he spent time with you, watching you, he knew that you were definitely hiding something. The knowing look you sometimes give to others when you thought that they were looking, as you withheld information that was just about to reach the tip of your tongue. The look that you gave him, when he talked about certain topics, his trill towards fighting, your eyes told him that you knew something that he never told anyone else other than his close associates.

And to him, it was nothing but trilling. You have become something likened to a prey that he had become found over. Someday, there is this itch of wanting nothing more than to rip you apart to know everything about you, but he cherishes you just enough not to.

It would be sad to destroy you like that, but to be fair, even if he had patience... he could only wait for so long.

#01 : meet before the cute

One day, in 8th grade,

Childe caught himself staring. Again. How many times has it been? 5? 8? He swears it’s just pure coincidence. He spaces out sometimes and ends up staring at people, you know? And can you really blame him? It’s not his fault that you’re sitting right in front of him and Science class has been way too boring these days. Staring at you would be much more- what? No. No, he swears he doesn’t care about you—

“Childe? Hey! Tsk. Childe!”

He blinks. “O-oh, hey, (name)! Uhm, what’s up? Haha!”

You roll your eyes, “Were you even listening? Sir partnered us up for the activity.”

“Sorry, what activity?”

You sigh and take out your books, papers, and pens while explaining to him the instructions for the task.

—But he notices how most of the things you own are in your favorite color. He notices how you’re wearing a new jacket today and you forgot to wear your usual accessories. He notices how your writer’s callus has gotten worse because of how much notes you’ve taken. He notices how you fidget with your fingers and the pen when you’re thinking.

You look up from your notes, “Do you understand?”

He snaps back from his thoughts and gives you an innocent smile. “Yup!” He doesn’t get a single thing. “Nice! So, can you do this part for me? I’ll handle the rest.” If it’s for you then he gladly will.

At lunch, he finds himself immediately looking for you. His friends' chatters fade into the background and everything else blurs until his eyes set on you.

You're right there, smiling and laughing, joking around with your friends. He notices how cute the way your eyes practically close when you smile. He notices how you cover your mouth when you laugh. He notices how you're carrying your notes because there's an exam today, but you can't really focus on reading through them because of how chaotic your friends are. He notices how you bring out a new wallet. He notices how you constantly ask your friends what time it is because you forgot your watch today and god forbid you come late to class. He notices how you cling onto your friend's shoulder as you walk back to class. He notices how you greet other students "Hello!" and remind your groupmates to send in their assigned part by today when you bump into them.

After school, he notices how you stay a bit longer in the classroom to clean up and fix up the shelves and chairs. He notices how you watch your friends train and play. On days where your friends don't have any training and go home early, he notices how you walk around the school alone and enjoy looking at the plants while waiting for your service. He notices how, sometimes, you would bump into other students you know from other sections and start discussing the recent lessons and exams with them to pass the time. He notices how-

"Childe! DUDE! Hello???", he hears his friend Xinyan call him. "What is wrong with you? You've been spacing out a lot."

"Ha! Probably because he's staring at that girl a little too much.", Kaeya snickers.

"Ooo~ Is it the new girl?", Hutao points at you.

Childe blushes and grabs Hutao's hand. "Don't do that! And no, I am not staring at anyone."

"Then who's got you so... like this?"

"No one! Well, maybe I have been kind of noticing... someone...? I'm just being an attentive and aware person! Is that so bad?"

Kaeya pats him on the back, much like how a big brother would to his sibling. "Oh, Childe... my dear, dear, Childe... you're interested in someone! But I guess it wouldn't be so obvious to a hopeless romantic like you." "Oh, shut up Kaeya."

He turns silent, and at first it looks like he's giving his friends the "silent treatment" from how annoyed he was. But really, he just wants to look at you again.

If he really does like you, then is this really just it? Is it really just stolen glances, soft smiles, and staring and wanting from afar? Or will he make his move one day?

No, that can't be. This is just temporary. This is just a simple happy crush. Right?

you could feel the electrical bass thrumming under your fingertips. with the mastery of electro, a bass was no match for you. with the loud music surrounding you, encompassing the very spirit of rock, you feel at ease. at home. you flick your wrist once again, seeing your adoring fans swoon over you.

finally, a break in the song. the bridge, or, as you like to call it, the part where you can let your eyes drift over the crowd, seeing if there's any .. interesting figures catching your eye.

sadly, nobody of note was here today. they were all just . . normal people. boring. bland. not your type.

as your eyes looked back down onto the guitar, fangs biting your snakebite piercings, you catch a swoop of red in the crowd.

"huh?"

you blinked rapidly, and in the concert daze, all still remains veiled under the fog of the night.

"must be the makeup. "

you complete the set without any further hindrances, but the little red you saw still lingered in the back of your mind.

you tapped the frets of the bass, mindless strumming filling the confined space right now. the band leader was talking to some fan, and totally buying into the fanservice. albeit you not being into that, not wanting to feed the parasocials, you were one of, if not the most popular band members, to your dismay. well, your piercings, odd attire and hair do go a long way in such times.

once, an interviewer asked why your sense of fasion does not match up to teyvat's current times.

"people just aren't ready for it. " you shrugged, and smirk to the camera, hearing the fans cheer for you in the background. hah, maybe feeding fanservice once in a while wasn't that bad.

"surely it cannot be that hard to find a famous celebrity . . especially someone of that crowd the other night. " kazuha mused to himself, frustration slowly building inside of him.

suddenly, a thought crosses his mind. he blinks, lightly facepalming himself, chiding that he hasn't thought of this.

in the world of rock, who better to ask than xinyan?

"good afternoon, xinyan, i was wondering if you had came to the concert the other night?"

kazuha knocked on xinyan's door, meeting her surprised face when she opened the door to the samurai.

xinyan's eyes practically perked up upon hearing the word 'bassist'.

You had nothing to do on Genshin Impact today, all your commissions had been done earlier and your resin was gone. You only came back to the profile screen to check on your characters. You had you head in one of your hands and you were leaning on the desk listening to Lumine gush about how grateful she was for her new artifact set you'd put on her. I'd give you a hug if I could, [name], I really would! You placed your hand against the screen. You would gladly accept that hug. Sad and tired, you accidentally hit you head against the table: hard.

Ouch, you thought. You looked to the side of you, you weren't familiar with this place, a grey background filled with stars, or maybe you were... Just the sound of Lumine and Aether's voices was enough to confirm your suspicions. They walked through their character profiles to meet you in your grey void, and quite literally jumped for joy at the sight of you in-game. Lumine finally got her hug!

The void was getting a bit crowded, so after a while you guys decided to drop by the Serenitea Pot, where surely you would all fit. You found some nice clothes in Kaeya's wardrobe, so you found yourself matching with him - except without the eyepatch and the scarf and in turquoise instead of blue. You looked quite sexy if I do, and they, say so myself 😌. Xiangling instantly ran to the kitchen alongside Xinyan and Paimon to start on making a celebratory feast whilst Albedo, Klee, YaoYao, Diona and Qiqi all sat at your feet to listen to stories of your world. Even though they already knew about some of them, due to you talking in your spare time with them, they still found it interesting. The twins were always next to you, cuddling and smothering you in affection; they knew it wouldn't last forever.

You don't know just how happy it made your characters to sit down and have a meal with you physically - you somehow made the food taste better! Speaking of which, it seemed like the Genshin cuisine wasn't just looks, it tasted BOMB. Venti, Barbara and Xinyan were quite the trio, and dancing with the standard 5 stars to make them feel better was an experience you'll never forget. Also, Zhongli had such soft thighs?! He let you lay down on them whilst Ei stroked your head fondly. Xiao held your hands and played with them softly, occasionally looking up to guve you the softest of smiles. All good things come to an end however.

You lay down surrounded by Eula, Yae Miko and Yelan to lure you to sleep, and sleep you did. Mommy milkers + thighs = good nights rest.

You woke up in your own bed the next day.

Genshin Character Design Notes

wanted to write down some stuff i’ve noticed while studying genshin character designs for my rottmnt au in case anyone could find them useful for their own crossovers/ocs.

these are not hard and fast rules as much as they are simple observations and patterns i’ve seen across characters. i am by no means telling people how to design their characters!! these are just things that i personally try to keep in mind while designing and wanted to share for those who are interested.

sorry it’s long, i’m obnoxiously meticulous and wordy 😔

5-star characters will almost always be using their burst in their wish art and the effects will usually take up half or more of the space. many will either have an almost solid background and/or ground to stand on. an exception to both of these would be klee which could be due to her being made very early in development.

4-star characters can be using either their skill or their burst and their effects will usually be pretty minimal with much more empty space around the character. effects are also much more generic save for some talent-specific visuals like sucrose’s butterfly or xingqiu’s swords. even the 4-stars with more complex art look basic next to 5-stars with similar effects (ex: chongyun/eula, xinyan/dehya, candace/tartaglia).

all of the archons so far have had their nation’s scenery incorporated into their wish art. nahida is possibly an exception as it looks like it’s just her burst, even though the burst itself seems to be based off of sumeru’s architecture, but this could also be due to her being isolated compared to the other three.

i feel like this one’s a given but long loose/draping fabrics and dangling ornaments are basically a requirement. this game has gorgeous cloth physics and they very much like to use that to their advantage in their designs.

also the characters’ movements and combat style often play a part in how they are dressed, especially in regards to the cloth physics. characters with quicker and more active movements, like sword users or those with more energetic personalities, have smaller capes, wear pants/shorter skirts, and overall have fewer loose fabrics to obscure those fast movements; their clothing/silhouette tends to hug closer to the body. meanwhile characters that have less movement and/or are more elegant, like catalysts, will have longer skirts or other long clothing items that accentuate those types of movements better. there are no strict rules for this one, but in general the clothing should complement how the character moves, not work against it.

most characters will have a very unique hair style/coloration (yelan, dehya, xiao) or they will have hats/hair ornaments (shogun, shenhe, childe) and many will have both. either way, their hair and head is an important point to add visual interest.

this one’s kind of specific, it’s just a fun thing i noticed: there are very few characters, if any, without a high collar, choker, or otherwise covered neck. i guess they don’t really like leaving the neck exposed lol.

basically this entire video has a ton of very good observations, but the main thing i keep in mind from it is that characters will “always have an appealing view from behind” since that’s how they are primarily viewed by the player during gameplay. characters in most other series will have a backside of their design that basically gets the job done and not much else. but genshin takes care to have a back view that is just as unique as the front. skirts and capes will have their own unique silhouette and flow. clothing cut, fabric patterns, and accessories will create shapes that are just as eye-catching as those in the front. they are basically almost their own unique character design, completely independent of what’s going on in the front.

the legs tend to act as a sort of “break” for the eyes, especially when viewed from the front. not counting skirts, the legs will usually have less patterning and/or darker, more subdued coloration compared to the torso. many characters will have bare legs or plain colored stockings or pants with large amounts of blank space/simple patterning.

some will have brighter colors or noticeable patterns compared to other characters, but it is almost never the main point of interest in the overall design. ex: yelan, shenhe, and albedo all have very ornate leggings/pants, but at first glance it’s generally drowned out by the brighter colors + higher contrast shapes on their torso.

some characters like razor, noelle, and heizou are exceptions to the pants rule. in these cases, the legs serve to simply balance out the design. razor and heizou’s brighter colors add interest to an otherwise simple and almost monochromatic design and noelle’s armored legs make her feel sturdy and more ornate, fitting for a knight. they are detailed enough to enhance the design, but not enough to take away focus from the upper body.

since the characters spend a lot of time running, climbing, etc, their legs are never completely covered/obscured. skirts, if not split, are knee-length at most. otherwise their animations would probably be a clipping nightmare.

pattern placement is very intentional on every part of the character. fabric patterns will generally follow the cut of the fabric so as not to interrupt the “flow” of the design. repeatable/tileable patterns are almost non-existent, except to add texture to a small area like the scales on zhongli’s coat, dark patterns on sara’s skirt, and glittery star-like textures on parts of several characters’ outfits.

(this one is very iffy and better left to your own judgement, but..) asymmetry is common, but not necessary. in fact, most characters’ silhouettes are pretty symmetrical; the asymmetry is more often in the smaller details like patterns or ornaments/accessories than anything else. more noticeable asymmetry is usually in angled/layered skirts (ningguang, faruzan, barbara) and one-sided capes/sashes (kaeya, alhaitham, wanderer), while the cut of the “base” outfit is otherwise symmetrical. the asymmetry in these designs is noticeable because it is used well, not just often. exceptions to this (namely yoimiya and tighnari) are usually going for a specific look that fits the character’s personal and cultural background and their personality.

aaaand that’s about all i can think of at the moment. i’m sure a lot more research and thought goes into these designs than what is listed here, but i am just one non-professional artist and i am far from knowing all the ins and outs of mihoyo’s design process 😔 these are just a few of the (purely surface-level) visual observations i’ve made while making my turtle au lol.

Xinyan here to rock and roll!

I finally finished my own fanart of Xinyan in her 2022 concert outfit (because probably no one else will since she’s not meta). I had my doubts about how this will turn out, but I’m loving the final result, I think I improved very very slightly from last year!

The first image is how I normally color lineart for making icons or button badges - very safe color choices dropped from the actual artwork I’m referencing, with generic anime character design standing in neutral lighting, nothing too dramatic.

For the second image I followed some youtube tutorials to bump up the flair because Xinyan is a self-proclaimed rockstar and deserves it. (Here’s the channel if you want to watch those videos. https://www.youtube.com/@tppoart) I added a spotlight to the background and reflected lights in a cool tone to contrast with her warm tones, blurred some stuff in the back, increased the contrast with photoshop levels, realized I forgot to color her hair braid and colored that in, added music note brushes in the background and some pop kitschy graphic elements like face tattoos and halftone shades and finally some overall textures and color overlay.

What do you think? Do you like the first or second better? I don’t know if I’ll use those tutorials for all of my art since I like the safe option for printing purposes, but I have to admit adding even more highlights does make the character stand out more if you are old and half-blind like me and can’t see things as clearly as you used to when you were a teenager.

Warnings: None, but slight spoilers for Kazuha’s island (summer event)

During your summer vacations, Kazuha and you spend some tender moments together after the events on his island~

The sound of ice cubes clinking against glass is what awakes Kazuha from his slumber on the beach. Along with the lulling sound of the ocean waves, and the warmth of the sun it was indeed hard to resist the temptation of a good afternoon’s sleep.

“Good morning, sleeping beauty.”

Kazuha looks up from his lounger, a little drowsy still, but with a fond smile gracing his lips when he recognizes it is you who stands in front of him, hindering the light from blending his eyes. “Hello, starshine.”

You offer him the cocktail in your hand, which he accepts gratefully. “Slept well?”

Kazuha shuffles a little to make you some room beside him, and with the bowl of pudding in your other hand you settle down next to him.

“Indeed, I did. The afternoon sunlight truly grants the perfect amount of warmth and comfort,” he answers, sipping from his drink. Then his eyes move to wander serenely over the scenery of the archipelago islands.

Not far from you Paimon, Fischl and Mona huddle around a small campfire, bickering and laughing about something, while Xinyan seems to tinker around with the record player next to them.

Lumine in the background though seems to be in her own little paradise. Eyes closed, with a cocktail in her hand and floating around on a swim ring; the traveller looks utterly relaxed.

Humming, you take a spoon full of your pudding when your eyes drift back over to Kazuha.

Lost in thoughts and nibbling on the straw of his drink. The golden light of the setting sun glistens in his eyes, and with the dreamy landscape around him, it makes him look like something straight out of a painting.

You’re glad to see that Kazuha could find some time to catch up on some sleep and rest a little after these last occurrences. He looks even more at ease now. Relaxed even. But even if he claimed to be alright, it is noticeable that the events didn’t go by without leaving some traces behind.

His eyes suddenly meet yours, soft and tender. Still, you somehow feel caught and shy, trying to overplay the situation by offering him some of the pudding in your hands. “Xinyan really surpassed herself with this one,” you declare before taking another spoon of the cool dessert. “It tastes gorgeous. You wanna try?”

You earn a delighted smile from the wanderer. “I would love to.”

You want to hand over the spoon, but before you can even react Kazuha is already leaning in, placing a sweet kiss on your lips. Your breath hitches. But then he’s already pulling back again, a front of serious contemplation on his face. “Hmm. You’re right. It really does taste great.”

Damn, you-

You clear your throat pathetically, trying to overplay the flustered state Kazuha left you in, but fail miserably.

Now there’s merely a cocky smirk plastered on Kazu’s face instead. Clearly satisfied with his manoeuvre.

“Glad you like it,” you mutter in return, deliberately avoiding his eyes and stuffing your mouth with pudding instead.

He chuckles and you playfully bump your shoulder against his.

A soft breeze carries the sound of Mona’s laugh over to the both of you, catching your attention. Some quiet moments pass where you watch them having their good time and taking joy in Paimon’s exaggerated stories.

“Didn’t want to join them?”

You look up to Kazuha, contemplating how to answer. Because, yes, there was a reason you are here and not with the others as he has expected. You sight, then you lean forward to straighten his collar that must have gotten out of place while he slept, receiving a fond look in return. “I just wanted to make sure you’re okay,” you answer truthfully.

Kazuha studies your gaze for a while, searching for something and apparently finding it. His gaze softens. “That is kind of you.”

His eyes travel to the already setting sun, sending its last trails of sunshine upon the sea. Then he asks, “Do you want to go and watch the sunset with me? The scenery is far too magnificent to let an opportunity like this pass.”

...

You take a walk to the charming spot on a small hill you’ve passed earlier, somewhere in a more secluded area. Just him and you.

Between a bundle of different flowers, dancing in the soft breeze of the evening wind you settle down. Your back against Kazuha’s chest, his arms around your waist; he pulls you in, just a little closer to him.

“Do you want to talk about it?” you ask gently after some moments of, viewing the sea glistening in golden light in comfortable silence.

You feel him pressing a soft kiss upon your hair, tender fingers caressing your hands. “No, I don’t think so,” he answers calmly, composed. “The past is in the past. I’ve had a lot of time to dwell on my past mistakes and regrets, but these burdens are no longer; They do not matter anymore.

I’ve since then grown and matured. Now I’m at peace with the former days, and my present ones as well.”

You take some time to let his words sink in. His steady, but genuine tone. You believe them.

“Alright,” you reply softly, a smile on your lips. “I’m glad to hear that. Just know, if you ever feel the need– I’m here.”

“I know.” Kazuha lifts your hand to his lips. And then he whispers, barely audibly, “Thank you.”
