I had a whole week off and since our family is now too poor to go on a yearly vacation, I was able to stay home and work on chores and get appointments out of the way and sleep until after noon a few days lol. I wouldn't say I got most of my checklist done, but I did get more than the minimum so I will be gracious with myself and estimate I did at least 50% of what I had hoped to finish. That deserves a treat.

I finally went to see the doctor about my hand and got prescription strength steroids, and apparently that was all I needed because my hand is a lot better. Still a tiny bit of pain and irritation after 5 days, but it's very much on the mend and I was able to finally get back to cleaning and other stuff I couldn't do with one hand out of commission for months. Not that I wanted to lol, but I really had to.

I lost the battle with my HOA so I was forced to pull up weeds in the rain Saturday, and then for 2 more hours today, and still have much more to go. I had already transferred funds to a higher savings account earlier this month, so now I have to be creative about saving money the next few weeks to pay these fees. Going to be listing a few more things on mercari, though I don't really have much left worth buying, to be honest. I suppose I could open up those quarterly commissions like I said I would for 2024, but I can't force myself to do great art when I'm not in the mood...

As mentioned earlier, I didn't end up working on cosplay due to materials not in yet and I technically don't have anywhere to wear my costumes except my bathroom and that's not enough motivation to sew apparently. But now that my hand is much better, I think I will make a plan to get some test muslins done this week or work on some accessories by the end of the month. I think that's very reasonable.

tumblr is great because no matter how many followers i get it doesn't stop me from being really fucking annoying. other places i will perhaps think before i post. Not here. not here

I didn't really have an argument, the late fees on my maintenance fines were due to my not reading the fine print and thus not knowing that my account did not pay those fines automatically. I personally felt the maintenance fines were poorly timed, but that's baseline HOA activity everywhere from what I've heard. I guess I just wanted it on record that I did dispute my fees so I now have an actual reason to curse them for denying my dispute.

Finished a blouse, from scratch, from Otome no Sewing volume 14! This blouse looks so good on the mannequin and as a concept, but actually looks bad on me and also the fabric is terrible lol. But I did it, my first ever proper blouse!

I made a post on my domain blog about cosplay plans that I was really going to try to work on during my week off this week, but then I realized the theme of the next art market (because there was a theme this time, unlike before) didn't match the next costume I had planned. While nothing can stop me from updating my Qi Rong plan for the theme and thus being both casual and incidentally really funny, I think no one there would get it besides the two voice actors. And I'm not going to be talking to the voice actors. So my spring costume might have to be deferred until later this year or next year or maybe to an indeterminate future.

Also I had to order special fabric for Qi Rong from China and who knows when it will get here or if it will ever get here because that's also a thing.

That leaves a Sakizo cosplay for the summer if I go to a summer con in another city which I'm kinda meh about since it's global-warming-hot in the South and she wears a corset, and Obanai for the winter (I doubt I'll be going to a winter con though since there aren't a lot of options locally). I don't really have a place to wear Yun Jin except my bathroom this year, so I'm kinda uninspired to work on her. I do have other significantly simpler secret costumes to work on, but again, the impending heat of a thousand suns makes me reluctant to work on them right now lmao.

Hmm... maybe I should have tried to work out more so I can wear swimsuit costumes for characters. I joke, but unless something drastically changes now, the summers are only going to get hotter with each year that we live on this planet. Anime and videogames need to realize this, promptly. No more leather costumes or armor or coats! Only light-colored natural-fiber loose-fitting dresses for both men and women and all others!

One of my 2024 goals is to get back into learning languages, but my last few attempts had always failed because I genuinely, no joke, need to be attending real life class like university to remember anything successfully and even then, if you don't use it, you lose it... Obviously I don't have the discipline to self-study due to the adhd, and also I feel like I grasp information better via osmosis in the live physical presence of someone who knows the material more than I do lol. My mind would wander in virtual or distance learning classes.

Years ago I paid for a Rosetta Stone account which is a one time purchase that gives you access to dozens of languages, a far superior bargain to any other language learning program. But I don't feel the Rosetta Stone style helps me that much, although it's probably not worse than the average free or subscription app. Currently I'm learning Vietnamese, the only language my parents use to speak to me and my brother. Of course the beginner lessons I'm zipping through because I know all that stuff as a child, the only difference is that the speakers have different pronunciation and a handful of different vocabulary words than my mom who left Vietnam 40 years ago.

Yet if you asked me something basic in Vietnamese right now, I'd be like... I remember nothing. Khong biet!

Today I made some cream of broccoli soup, added chicken and cheese and ate it with toast for second dinner. I also made pico de gallo for future tacos even though I just had tacos this week lol. I had to throw out a bunch of fruits and vegetables (and to go containers that will never be washed) yesterday so I'm trying to redeem myself by cooking and prepping the rest of my fridge and pantry contents before they also have to be thrown out. So far so good with pesto cream linguini, doenjang jjigae and arrabbiata turkey spaghetti. But I still have to think of how to quickly use half a block of tofu, 1/2 a package of ground turkey, an opened bottle of whipping cream, possibly Greek yogurt and cream cheese (although they're probably on their way out by now), more pasta sauce, more pizza ingredients, a whole container of salad, etc. I think the best thing that can combine all of those ingredients is a cheesy turkey and tofu rice casserole, a salad with fruits and creamy dressing, and aforementioned tacos with some of the turkey. Sounds terrible now that I write it out hahah.

What can I say? It's the adhd and the wishful thinking I'll get the energy to make food after work. I'm a joker, a real jester.
