Saddest movie/ writing myth that got destroyed by doing military service was that most bullets will pass through at least one body if not two and all the dramatic scenes where one character catches a bullet for another are invalid and both would have died
Obviously I could still make it work somehow but it made writing a lot more complicated, same for 99% of cover we see in movies is not hard cover that would actually stop a bullet

for all my writer followers:
first degree burn: damage to the top layer of skin
mild burn, easily treated at home
will hurt
looks red and dry, no blisters (think mild sunburn)
no permanent effects
caused by briefly touching something hot, sunburn
second degree burn: damage to the top and middle layers of skin
treatable at home
will hurt
red, with blisters, might swell
skin might be thicker long term
caused by touching something hot, sunburn, some chemicals
third degree burn: damage to the top, middle, and fatty layers of skin
requires medical attention
won't feel immediately painful because the nerves are destroyed
looks charred, turns white
leaves scar tissue
caused by severe sunburn, open flames, boiling water, or dry ice
fourth degree burn: damage into nerves and tendons
requires medical attention, won't feel painful
charred skin
might lead to amputation
caused by hot metal, open flames, or injuries from a building fire
fifth degree burn: damage to the muscle
nerve damage, no pain
charred, white skin, some exposed bone
amputation and possible organ damage
caused by fire, chemicals, or hot oil (oil can't be removed with water, causes extensive damage - restaurant worker risk)
sixth degree burn: damage to the bone
skin is burnt off, visible bone, destroyed nerves
amputation and organ damage, possible fatal
caused by fire, radiation, explosion, or high levels of voltage
also note:
almost anything can cause a sixth degree burn if it's there long enough
I'm not an expert this is just my complied research
the burns from explosions don't include any boiling hot shrapnel that might get lovingly lodged into your characters flesh
ice is bad for burns! real bad!

Here's something that really helps me out of writing ruts. I take a mind map and write with it until I end with a question, that helps kickstart my creativity a bit!
(come back to the mind map when you have your answers and follow it till the next road block or question arrives)

Random Obscure Things You Can’t Do with a Tongue Piercing:
I made this list for fun, but who knows, maybe it’ll be useful for fellow writers or anyone weighing the pros and cons of getting a tongue piercing...
1. Play poison dart frog :(
2. Blow bubbles with bubble gum
3. Lick a beater (doable, but that mfer gets caught on all the prongs)
4. Stick your tongue out at people (normally), or do so without looking like a fool. I used to do it habitually, it was like a whole thing, but it becomes much harder cause you have to allow room for the piercing to pass through your teeth as well, and its much less forgiving than a squishy tongue.
5. Get hairs from your mouth easily? Idk. It gets wrapped around the stem and for some reason they’re just really hard to pull off.
6. Have normal levels of spit. I’ve never in my life had issues with producing too much saliva but I do now. Drooling becomes wayyy too easy and I spit while talking on accident. I don’t think this happens to everyone, but it’s a known thing.
7. Lick/eat popsicles and ice cream bars easily. It can hurt when it gets super cold, and also gets caught on things. This subsides the longer you have it, and might also only apply to people who are more sensitive. Like my teeth? Cannot handle the cold, so naturally my tongue struggles too. Easy way around it - just use your lips instead but it’s still not the same as before (and this doesn’t apply to ice cream biters... you heathens)
8. Keep your tongue in your mouth! (Jokes) It’s addicting to play with, and for someone like me who can’t help but fidget, I often play with the piercing without even noticing.
9. Blow raspberries (might be possible depending on placement)
10. Kiss without it hitting the other persons teeth. It made for a very strange first kiss imo, but it becomes easier with practice.
11. Do tongue tricks.... so sad my skills have gone to waste. Hot dog is about all I can do now, but once upon a time I could do clover, 180°, spoon, and the s-shaped one.
12. Be seen as a prude. A lot of people jump to the dirty side once they see it, but not all!
13. Make the waterdrop sound with your mouth. Another one that’s kind of doable, but really difficult. Used to be able to do it and impress people but alas no longer
14. It can be uncomfortable to lick something solid? Not that you ever do that much anyways... but like, say you lick someone’s arm or a wall or something - it’s much more likely to drag along the surface, and it tugs a little. It doesn’t hurt, just not super comfy. Squishy things are fine tho lol
15. Same idea as no.14, but licking things that aren’t very lickable is also very uncomfortable, even more so than solid things. Like blankets, fabric, paper... you get my drift. And yes, this is tried and tested. You’re welcome.
16. Always be 105% comfortable with the piercing. You get used to it, and barely even notice it most of the time, BUT, and it’s a big but, every once in a while it can feel so overwhelming. Like, if I’m overstimulated, half the time my body pinpoints on it, since its always in my mouth. There have been times I’ve wanted to rip it out because I was so overwhelmed, but of course as soon as I calm down, it feels fine again.
17. Eat super sticky things. It’s fine for the most part, but can get tricky. I have a hard time with Starbursts – they like to wrap around the piercing stem, which is hard to deal with! Jolly Ranchers are also more difficult, as the piercing sticks to the candy and then gets pulled when it moves.
18. More to come!!

okay idk who needs to hear this but ive seen it in so many fics and its a huge pet peeve of mine. if youre writing a character getting choked (as in, grabbed around the neck) and you want them to pass out and not require an urgent hospital visit, you should not be describing them having a hard time breathing or "cutting off airflow".
like, okay. in order to make someone pass out, you have to prevent oxygen from getting to their brain. and on its own this wont do any major damage as long as the brain starts getting oxygen again very soon (it cant go more than a couple minutes without or youll start getting permanent brain damage). [NOTE: im not a medical professional. its probably not very good for you to deprive your brain of oxygen at all. but like for fanfic purposes theyll be fine afterward as long as they start getting air again right away.] so you can do this by preventing oxygen from getting into their body at all (i.e blocking their airway), OR you can prevent blood from carrying oxygen to the brain by cutting off circulation. and when youre talking about grabbing the neck from the outside, that second one is absolutely the one you want.
now, it is possible to choke someone out in a way that restricts airflow- by applying pressure to the front of the neck and crushing the windpipe. and this is what i usually see described in fanfic, BUT damage to your windpipe is extremely bad news. needs-immediate-attention-or-you-could-die bad news. you can certainly write this one if thats what youre going for- its also extremely painful so i can certainly see it having uses. and if the goal is to KILL someone by choking them, then this is obviously a perfectly fine method. but if you want someone to pass out from restricted airflow WITHOUT needing an ambulance, a tight seal over the mouth and nose is a much much better way to go. its not that hard to accomplish- any kind of plastic bag will make a nice tight seal. im sure duct tape over the mouth and then plugging the nose would also do the trick. additionally, sticking..... *ahem* /something/ down their throat far enough to completely block their airway would do the same thing, as long as you have a way to get it back out so they can breathe again.
but theres a nice easy way to cut off circulation to the brain- theres a major vein and artery on the sides of the neck that take blood to and from the brain (the carotid vein/artey). so by squeezing the sides of the neck, you can make someone pass out while doing almost no damage at all- it doesnt take a lot of pressure, so it might not even hurt that much. but you know when you wrap something a little too tight around your finger, and it swells up and turns red and gets that kinda pressure feeling in it? the same thing happens in your head. you can even try it for yourself- squeeze the sides of your neck for a couple seconds and see what it feels like.
and since the bloodflow is cut off, air can be coming in and out of the lungs just fine but none of it will get to the brain. (this way can also kill someone btw. although i imagine it would be less painful.) you may have heard people talk about this technique in terms of being safe in the bedroom, but thats not because it "feels good". it makes you pass out, which can be erotic in certain contexts, but even if youre into it it probably wont be a fun time outside of a controlled environment. and this is also the way they do it in some martial arts- youve probably seen a chokehold at some point, where they have their whole arm wrapped around their opponents neck? theyre not pulling back to put pressure on the front, theyre squeezing with the elbow to put pressure on the sides.
"but if i cant describe them struggling to breathe or pain in their neck, what can i describe?" good news friend, i have had the displeasure of almost passing out on several occasions, and i can describe the kinds of things that happen! first youll start to feel lightheaded, and that will keep getting stronger and stronger. you feel kind of disoriented and like youre going to fall over. might get a bit nauseous. your hearing will gradually fade out until everything sounds kinda muffled and far away, which makes your own voice sound really loud in comparison. then your vision will start to go black around the edges, and your ears will start ringing, and presumably that will get worse and worse until you cant even see or hear anymore. im guessing at this point you would probably fall over and that would be it. out like a light.
its a scary feeling! youll probably go into fight or flight pretty much right away (even if youre doing it consensually- your body will think youre in danger and act accordingly. from what i understand, thats part of the appeal- its like the thrill of riding a rollercoaster), so your heartrate and breathing will speed up and other things that happen in fight or flight. also, i described it as really slow but it can take anywhere from 5 seconds to several minutes depending on how much of the oxygen is cut off. like when someone sees blood and then passes out right away? yeah thats a real thing. and that happens so fast you probably wouldnt register what was happening before you were out. but getting choked out would probably take at least 10-15 seconds if i had to guess, longer if theyre doing it poorly.
anyway im not a writer so i dont have much in terms of specific writing advice like pacing or what to focus on or whatever. and im not an expert either- all of this is based on martial arts knowledge, basic biology and anecdotal evidence, so feel free to correct me on anything ive said here. and obviously you dont have to write it to be perfectly realistic if you dont want- im just trying to share some info about this for anyone who didnt know how it works and wants to write a more accurate portrayal

Less clunky ways to introduce pronouns!
I'm sure a good chunk of folks have seen that Dr. Who clip with The Doctor, his companion, and The Meep. And if you've seen that, then you've likely seen some of the reaction from various perspectives (bigoted and otherwise.) And while Dr. Who being queer-inclusive and tackling modern issues is not new, the way the pronouns of The Meep were introduced was written a bit awkwardly.
So! Here are some ways that I, a trans person, would write the introduction of pronouns for a character!
1: The Correction. Have the character being introduced make a quick interruption to correct misgendering. Also works when the character being introduced/mentioned is not present.
A: "Hey, this is B. She-"
B: "It's he, actually."
A: "My bad/oops/oh okay! So, he ..."
Or
A: "So I met B the other day, and she-"
C: "Oh, no, it's he, not she."
A: "Ohhh okay! So anyway, he ..."
Note: don't drag out the issue. Just a quick correction is the key here, and is only a moment's hiccup in the flow of conversation. Unless the scenario revolves around misgendering and transphobia, there's no need to make an entire production of the correction.
2: The Preparation. Have one character ask beforehand how the other wants to be addressed/referred to. First impressions are the ones that tend to stick, so have a character establish beforehand how the other wants to be referred to in conversation.
A: "Hey, so we're gonna meet up with some friends of mine later on. How should I introduce you/ address you/refer to you in conversation/what pronouns should I use for you?"
B: "Normally I'm cool with any pronouns, but let's stick with they/them."
A: "Awesome, good to know."
Note: sometimes character's pronouns can change depending on the situation. If a character uses multiple pronouns, then using their name in addition to the pronoun in the same sentence can help readers understand.
3: The Fill-In-The-Blank. Again, just a small hiccup in the flow of conversation, where the character can look to their companion for confirmation before continuing on.
A: "So I was just talking to B here, and he- she- they ...?"
B: "She."
A: "Awesome, thanks. So she ..."
Note: just like with The Correction, don't drag it out. It's just a quick pause in conversation to establish information, and once that's done you can get on to the actual topic.
These are methods that either I have used personally, or have seen used by trans friends. And again, unless the whole scene revolves around someone's identity, establishing pronouns is a very quick and easy thing to do!
Happy writing!

Just a quick question… since in one of your stories you said it was the 70’s, I was just wondering how old the boys are in your writings? Or just around how old they are in your stuff. Love your work btw!!
Thank you!! Everyone I write for is over twenty, around the age they’d be in the 70s. (If not a bit older.)
That’s mainly due to me being twenty-two myself, I can’t write for anyone younger than that. So, all of my works take place in the 70s unless stated otherwise, so Dallas and Johnny are in their twenties in my works!
Thank you for asking, by the way. I’m always happy to clear this up! <3
(I just like to imagine nobody died and they’re all living their best lives in the mid-70s bein’ 20-25 and stuff hehe.)

The No-No List
I’m going to add this to my pinned post but I figured since I’m going to try and take more HC requests and such, I’ll do a list of what I do not write about because it’s either yucky or uncomfy.
- NSFW
- Furry content
- Self-Insert
- Child characters (if they are just side characters or a cameo that’s fine though)
- Projection of traits/illness/disability onto characters in any way that isn’t canon (no one here is a professional)
[will add more as I think of it]

I’m okay with fluff, angst and smut of all kinds. In smut fics, characters will always be aged up.
I will not write gore, non-con, incest of any kind.
Some dark themes like adultery, yandere are fine (it’s fiction, loosen up!)
I write lots of AUs ( soulmate, a/b/o, canon divergent)
Shorter drabbles and headcanons too!
I do swear in my fics
I do not write male readers. I’m sorry but I’m just not comfortable with that.

Tips to remember as a writer:
- Never compare yourself to someone else or their work
- Don’t push yourself to be the greatest, or make yourself write if you don’t feel up to writing (depending on how bad the block can be)
- However, writing sprints or little writing activities to help boost your creativity flow — an absolute must! Try a sentence of a paragraph here and there, maybe even challenge yourself to a certain number of minutes to write for
- Don’t focus on what others want, what they think your final product should be, what happens, etc. Whilst taking constructive criticism and audience feedback in is okay, the ultimate decision belongs to you and what you feel is right for your piece
- Patience is a virtue, whether that be with your audience, or most importantly — yourself
- Advocate for what you feel
- Don’t take hate or extreme negativity to heart, because there’s always going to be people trying to tear you/your work down
- Be respectful and responsible
- Google docs are a MUST
- Never focus on the amounts of notes you get or that someone else gets! What matters is how you feel you wrote to your ability (even then, things don’t need to be perfect), if it made you feel good, if you liked it and if you are proud of it
- There’s always going to be someone with more followers, more reception, more notes, more feedback and praise, but they’re not you! Whilst they’re known, they are popular, maybe their piece didn’t touch someone in the way that yours did? Be authentic and be you, because you & your art will resonate with someone — I promise! We are all different, with different strengths and styles — a unique formula that no one else has embodied but you
These are things I still struggle with, myself, but I’m trying! Love to all my fellow authors out there!
❤️❤️🖤🖤
