“It would just be for a couple hours!” you sat on the bar stool next to Angel, “You’re telling me that she can’t stay here for a couple hours? She’s a baby, Angel. It’s not like she can get up and run off.”
“I’m not leaving her with these motherfuckers,” he shook his head.
Angel loved his brothers in the MC. He would take a bullet for any one of them. Which is why it was so surprising to you that he didn’t want to leave your daughter with them. He didn’t mind it when you brought her around the clubhouse, as long as one of the two of you always had eyes on her. He was fiercely protective of her, which was adorable, but it also made it difficult for the two of you to get any time for yourselves. She was six months old and it had been much longer than that since the two of you had some quality couple time.
“Angel, they know how to feed and change a baby. Coco has more kids than we do!”
“Then he can go watch those ones!” he was adamant, “I ain’t leavin’ her here.”
While the two of you were arguing, Chucky appeared from the back room with a few cases of beer. He saw the car seat sitting on the bar top and immediately set down the boxes to come and investigate. He’d met your daughter on a few occasions but there were always so many other people around.
He gently rocked the car seat with a smile, whispering things to her that neither you nor Angel could hear, but you heard her contagious giggles. You turned and looked to see who had her laughing like that, and you couldn’t hide your surprise when you saw the gentle, loving look in Chucky’s eyes as he let her reach and hold onto his prosthetic fingers.
Your heart melted at the way he was smiling at her and the words came tumbling out of your mouth, “You wanna hold her?”
He looked up at you, eyes as wide as his smile, “I would be honored.”
You laughed quietly as you stood up and carefully unhooked the straps that kept her safely in the seat. You lifted her up and out before passing her off to Chucky, who cradled her in his arms as if it was second nature to him. Chucky had always been a bit of a caretaker by nature but this was surprising even to you.
“Like you’ve done it a million times before,” you commented as you watched him bounce her gently on his hip.
“Maybe not a million, but close,” he didn’t take his eyes off the baby.
“Oh yea? You have kids?” you really never gave a lot of thought to what Chucky’s life was like when he wasn’t working at the scrapyard. You knew that he had quite a long history, but you never asked about the details of it.
He shook his head, “Haven’t had the good fortune of that yet. But I spent a lot of time with Jax Teller’s boys when they were babies.”
It was the first time that he had spoken to you about his life in Charming. He spared a momentary glance over at you as he said it before returning all of his attention to the baby on his hip. But even in that split second you could see the wistful look in his eyes. Sometimes you forgot about the fact that he uprooted his entire life to come to Santo Padre.
“Do you have plans tonight, Chucky?” you asked.
Both he and Angel whipped their heads to look at you, their expressions vastly different. Angel knew exactly where this line of questions was going and he wanted none of it. Chucky, on the other hand, had never looked more excited.
He shook his head, “Not a single plan in place, Y/N.”
You smiled, “You think you could watch our little pumpkin here for a couple hours while Angel and I get some Mommy and Daddy time?” you drummed your fingers on the bar, “It’d only be for a couple hours. Just to get some dinner and alone time.”
“It would be one of my life’s greatest pleasures,” everything he said always sounded so sincere.
You chuckled, nodding, “You’re a lifesaver.”
“Y/N,” Angel gently wrapped his hand around your arm, “Can I talk to you for a second?”
You nodded, “Sure, what’s up?”
He tugged you towards the opposite side of the clubhouse, getting the two of you out of earshot from Chucky, “What the fuck are you doing?”
“What?”
“You just wanna leave our baby girl here with Chucky?”
You shrugged, “Why not? He seems like a goddamn baby whisperer.”
“Yea but—”
“And you heard him—he’s been around kids a ton before. Look at him,” you nodded towards Chucky, who was pretending to do some sort of ballroom dance with your daughter, “There is not an ounce of uncertainty in that man’s body. You telling me that any of the guys are ever that confident while holding her?”
Angel sighed, not able to deny that you had a point. Your daughter could smell fear from a mile away, and she could definitely sense when her tíos were getting nervous whenever they held her. You found it amusing because you could literally see the panic set into the eyes of the very tough group of bikers once she started to sound like she was about to cry. They would instantly try to locate you and glad you down to make you put out the fire that they inadvertently started.
Despite all of that, your daughter seemed happy as a clam as she waltzed around the clubhouse with Chucky. You could tell by the expression on Angel’s face that he saw what you saw, he just didn’t want to admit it.
“C’mon, baby,” you smiled and nudged his shoulder, “They make a good pair.”
“Fine,” he grumbled, “Two and a half hours tops. We’ll skip dessert if we have to.”
You beamed, clapping your hands, “Oh this is going to be amazing.” You pressed a kiss to Angel’s cheek before bounding over to Chucky, unable to try and tone down the huge smile on your face, “You really meant it about tonight?”
He nodded, “Of course. Anything for you. For her,” he looked at your daughter with a smile.
“You’re a gem!” you immediately started formulating a timetable in your brain, thinking out loud, “Okay I gotta jet home real quick to take care of a few things. Plus I’ll pack a bag of essentials for her to have here with you. And I’ll shower and get ready for dinner. I should be able to get back here by…6ish? Would that be alright?”
“That would be perfect.”
Angel sat back, watching the two of you make plans together while Chucky held your daughter on his hip. Despite his initial urge to reject the idea, he had to admit that there wasn’t the same knot in his gut about the idea of Chucky babysitting as there had been about literally any of the other guys. Chucky’s brain operated on a different level from the rest of them for sure, but realistically he was probably the most responsible out of all of them. Which was a strange thought.
You waved Angel over so that you could have him walk out to the car with you and the baby. You watched as Chucky carefully got her situated back into her car set, buckling and tucking her under her blanket. You wrapped Chucky in a hug, promising him that you would be back by six.
Angel carried the car set and got it situated in the back seat before turning to you, a smile on his face, “Drive safe, alright?”
You raised your eyebrows, “Wow, no smart comments?”
He chuckled, pulling you into a hug, “I’ll keep ‘em to myself…for now.”
“A true gentleman,” you laughed into his chest for a moment before pulling back to kiss him, “I’ll be back in a couple hours, okay?”
He nodded, “Whatever you need. Text me when you get home. I love you.”
You gave him another quick peck on the lips, “I love you too.”
You had packed everything that you could possibly think of into the diaper bag that you were bringing to the clubhouse. You had clothes, toys, formula, blankets, pillows, and of course diapers. It was impressive how much you were able to jam into the bag. Your daughter was babbling happily in her car seat as she watched you get everything set for her stay with Chucky. It was the first time that she was going to be away from both you and Angel for more than a couple minutes, and you were much more nervous about it than you wanted to let on. Not that you didn’t trust Chucky, but it was tough to leave your baby, even if you wanted some one-on-one time with her father.
When you rolled into the clubhouse, Angel was standing outside with Chucky and a few of the guys. Taking a deep breath you threw the car in park and got out, slinging the diaper bag over your shoulder before opening the back door and getting the car seat out. All of the guys looked at you expectantly as you approached the front steps. You could tell that they all had a hard time wrapping their heads around the fact that you were really about to leave Chucky in charge of your first and only child.
“Didn’t know that this hand-off had turned into a group affair,” you chuckled as you gently set the car seat down on the deck so you could get the bag off your shoulder.
“We just didn’t think that Angel would ever let anyone watch her,” Bishop piped in with a laugh, “Had to see it for ourselves.”
You made small talk with the group of them for a couple minutes before politely hinting that you and Angel had places to be—that was the whole point of this anyway. You unclipped your daughter from her car seat and picked her up, giving her a hug and a kiss before handing her to Angel so that he could do the same.
“I’m sure things will be fine, but if anything happens or if you have any questions at all, don’t hesitate to call me or Angel,” you gave Chucky a hug, “Thank you again for doing this. If anyone has got this under control, it’s you.”
You could see the pride on Chucky’s face as he soaked up what you were saying. Angel had the baby perched on his hip as he spoke to Chucky, “Anything happens to her and I’ll gut you like a fish, got it?”
Chucky nodded, not flinching one bit, “I accept that.”
Angel gave a nod of approval before handing the baby over, giving her one more kiss before doing so. He rested a hand on Chucky’s shoulder, “Thank you for doing this, Chucky.”
You didn’t know if Chucky had even heard what Angel had said—he was already enthralled with your daughter. You chuckled and shook your head as you tugged Angel back towards the car. You could hear the guys as you walked away. Coco must’ve picked up the diaper bag because you heard him call after you to ask if you had filled the thing with rocks instead of diapers, because that’s the only way it could be that heavy.
“What’d you put in there, querida?” Angel asked with a laugh as he got into the car.
“Just the essentials.”
Dinner was quiet, and just what the two of you needed. And, much to your surprise, you didn’t spend the whole evening worrying about if things were going okay back at the clubhouse. You trusted that Chucky would call if he needed assistance. You doubted that he did, though. Angel didn’t seem too flustered over it either. He checked his phone a few times just to make sure that there weren’t any missed calls or texts, but other than that he let it lie.
When the two of you got back to the clubhouse, everything was quiet. It wasn’t nearly late enough for it to be so dead, but you didn’t hear music or ruckus of any kind coming from the clubhouse. It was almost eerie.
You and Angel walked into the clubhouse to see that a large space in the center of it had been cleared of any and all furniture. Chucky had laid out all of the blankets and pillows that you had sent and clearly had come up with some of his own, and made quite the expansive play area for your daughter in the middle of the floor. She was fast asleep now, tucked safely in her favorite blanket with stuffed animals surrounding her. Chucky was sitting cross-legged next to her, just watching her to make sure that she stayed happily in her little dream world.
The icing on the cake was all of Angel’s brothers sprawled out across the blankets as well, also fast asleep. You giggled quietly as you leaned into Angel’s side, both of you walking over attempting not to wake anyone up, but especially the baby.
“Looks like you’ve had things perfectly under control here,” you whispered as you sank down and sat next to Chucky.
“Smoothest sailor out at sea,” he said back quietly with a nod.
“The boys can stay here,” you gently nudged Chucky’s shoulder, “But this little lady needs to come home with me. I’ll come by for the blankets and pillows tomorrow.”
You carefully got your daughter situated in her car seat without waking her up. Your daughter was luckily a very heavy sleeper, which would serve her well growing up surrounded by motorcycles. She hardly even flinched as you buckled her in and draped the blanket back over her again.
You hugged Chucky tight as you thanked him again, and you could tell that he felt it with his whole body, “I really appreciate you doing this for us, Chucky. Would you mind if we called on you again down the road?”
“I wouldn’t mind at all,” he looked back and forth between you and Angel as the three of you stood on the steps to the clubhouse, “Thank you, Angel Reyes, Y/N, for trusting me.”
“You’ve earned it, man,” Angel said with a nod.
The smile that spread across Chucky’s face could’ve melted the coldest heart in the world. The three of you said one more round of goodbye’s to each other before you and Angel headed off to the car, your sleepy daughter now in tow.
Once she was situated and you and Angel had gotten buckled in, you turned over to him with a smile on your face. He shook his head, not even needing to look at you to know that you had a smug expression.
“Just fucking say it,” he said with a laugh.
“I told you so!” you said in a loud whisper as you playfully slapped his arm.
He chuckled, rolling his eyes as he threw the car into drive, “Yea, yea. You told me so.”

It had been exactly 5 months, 28 days, 34 minutes, and 12 seconds since you’d last spoken to Luther... not that anyone was counting. Your junior year of college had just started and you were living in a new apartment with Sophie and Charlotte, with a new room mate this year, named Kayla. If anyone asked, your summer had been great. You’d had the opportunity to work with your advisor as part of a program your college offered, doing summer research. Your classes were off to an amazing start and you’d even gotten a new, high-paying job at your university’s writing center.
In all honesty, your summer had sucked. You had gotten so far in over your head with the research program and your grandfather had died just three weeks before the start of the new semester. Your living situation was beyond awkward, with Sophie and Charlotte making it a point to never bring any of the Hargreeves over, or even say any of their names. Kayla was kind and sweet and she did her best to include you, but it wasn’t the same. Your birthday was coming up, and you were dreading it more than anything. A year ago, Sophie and Charlotte had banded together, pulling out all the stops, giving you the best birthday you’d ever had. Now... now you weren’t sure what to even expect. You sighed as the cool air hit you as you opened the door to the building, heading down the hall to your advisors office. The woman was kind and young and new to the university and a lot of students drifted towards her when they needed a nice chat or help with citations or a good talk about the Cold War. She’d been sympathetic to your situation, even if you withheld some of the details. She didn’t need to be bogged down with all your petty personal life drama and she had enough on her plate. You turned the corner and knocked into someone, stumbling back a bit. You looked up to see Allison. “Oh my God, I’m so sorry.” She said, straightening up.
"No worries.” You breathed out, throat closing up. Why, why did the world hate you? You gave her a tight smile and continued to move down the hallway until you were safely inside your advisors office. She smiled at you as you sat down in the chair nearest her desk. Max, one of the other History majors, shot you a smile from where he was sitting on a bean bag chair. You discussed your ideas for a final project for one of her classes, wanting to make sure you found all your research even thought the semester had just started. You wanted this project to go perfectly, it was your favorite time in history, which happened very little and you would be damned you didn’t do it well. You stayed to talk to her for a little bit longer, but eventually left as Max was leaving. Max was one of the sweetest boys in the department and the two of you were quite friendly. He’d been one of the saving graces of your summer and he’d been on the listening end of a many late night phone call about your problems. Kayla had even teased you that the two of you would be together in no time. You had laughed her off, because Max had a girlfriend (who was just as sweet as he was and was a good friend of yours as well) and because for as hard you tried, no one really compared to the way you felt about Luther. It sucked and you wanted nothing more than to move on with your life but you had never quite gotten closure and there was painful dull in your chest anytime you see him or his siblings on campus. Which just your luck, Diego, Luther, Vanya, and Allison were standing off the side of the doorway, and they went silent as you walked past. You kept your head down as you willed your feet to move quicker and Max gripped your arm as you stumbled out of the building. That was the closest you had come to them, besides your run-in with Allison just an hour prior, and you felt like you were going to throw up.
“You want to come over?” Max asked. You shook your head, blinking back tears. You needed to get over this. “I’ll let you play Mario Kart on the Switch.” Max offered and you were tempted to say yes, but you really should go back to your apartment to work on some homework. “C’mon, I’ll buy you McDonalds.” That was the key word. You laughed a little, looking up at him. “You deserve the world (Y/N/N), don’t ever forget it.” He said, slinging his arm around you as he walked to his car.
-
The Hargreeves sat around the apartment, laughing at some joke Klaus had made. Sophie and Charlotte had invited them over to see the new place and meet the new room mate and (Y/N) was at Max’s (who lived just down the hall). Sophie had promised she wouldn’t come back for at least a few hours, so it was the perfect time. “Mmm, I ran into (Y/N) today, like literally. Practically knocked the poor girl over.” Allison said as she ate a strawberry.
“Jeez Allison, tell us how you really feel.” Five joked.
“That was the most awkward thing ever when we saw her today.” Vanya said, to which Diego agreed.
“We need to talk about that.” Sophie said, shifting away from Klaus. “Her birthday is coming up and the situation is getting unbearable, so you guys need to make up and soon.”
“What, the five months of radio silence not enough for you?” Ben muttered and Sophie shot him a look. Diego opened his mouth to shoot something back when keys jingled in the door.
-
You walked through the door, sighing to yourself. You’d spent a good few hours at Max and Elena’s (who lived just just down the hall, conveniently) and it had been a good break from the drama of the real world. But you had homework to do. You walked into the entryway, seeing all the Hargreeves gathered in your kitchen along with your room mates. Kayla, ever the peacemaker, shot you a bright smile. “How was your day darling?” She asked as you eyes narrowed, surveying the room. You made brief eye contact with Luther and quickly looked away.
“I’m too sober to deal with this.” You huffed, turning around and leaving the apartment again.
-
The door shut behind her and Diego swiveled towards Sophie. “That really seems like she wants to make up with us.” He snarked, shooting her an ugly look. Sophie shot an equally ugly look back.
“Look, I don’t care what you say or how you do it. I just care that things stopping happening like this. Fix it.”
-
You trudged back down the hallway and opened the door to Max’s apartment. He turned to you, a teasing grin on his face. “Back so soon?” You crash-landed on his couch, face-first. He came over to the couch, propping his legs up against yours as he sat down. You twisted and sat up, legs still covered by his lanky ones.
“Every single one of them is in my apartment right now.” You huffed.
“The Hargreeves?” He asked, quirking an eyebrow.
“No, all of Santa’s elves. Yes, the Hargreeves.”
“Hey, I was just making sure I understood. Why are they there?” You shrugged.
“Beats me. And I’m too sober to deal with anything any of them have to say, so... here I am.”
“You’re always sober.”
“Exactly. I’ll will be dealing with that situation approximately... never.” He shook his head.
“Well, we need to talk about your birthday.” You groaned, flopping back down on the couch. “What are we doing?”
“How about nothing? Can we do nothing? Is nothing an appropriate answer?” He shot you a look.
“C’mon, our advisors want to do something for you.” The advisors in the department really liked you and tried to make the best of everyone’s birthday, so yours was no different. They’d just picked the wrong year. “How about like, a picnic or something? While the weather is still nice?”
“I don’t care. You decide and I’ll just show up.”
“That’s not how this works.”
“Well then, I want to do nothing.”
“We’re doing something.”
-
You squinted as you trudged towards the tables in the park near campus. The sun was out and the weather warm and your friends had gone a long way to give you the best birthday. The day had been good so far with Kayla bringing you coffee this morning and Elena taking you out to lunch. A picnic in the park with a larger group of your friends and movie night in Max and Elena’s apartment later that night with your core group was the plan for the rest of the day. For as much as you had dreaded it, you couldn’t deny how good it felt to be appreciated by the people around you and it made your heart feel full. You cherished the hugs and laughs as the afternoon wore on, and every minute felt so full of joy until... until you saw the Hargreeves minus Luther but plus Lila walking towards the group. Sophie and Charlotte made their way over to the group, along with Elena, who knew Allison through the theatre department. You rolled your eyes, turning to Max. “You have to be fucking kidding me.” You said, shaking your head. You turned to walk away from them and were suddenly faced with Five. You jumped. “Jesus Christ. Weren’t you just...” You asked, turning back to where his siblings were and you were sure you had just seen him there too. “Never mind.” He sighed, sticking his hand out, present in his grasp.
“Happy birthday.” You stared at the present dumbfounded and he shook it. “Take it. I’m not going to stand here forever.” You tentatively took it from him.
“Thanks.. I think?” A teasing smirk settled on his face as he shoved his hands back in his pockets. The smirk was quickly replaced by a serious look though.
“Look, I’m sorry things happened the way they did. Don’t tell my siblings I said this, but not having you around has kinda sucked. I wish there was something we could do to fix it, but as much as your room mates want to pretend otherwise, this is between you and Luther.”
“Thank you.” You said sincerely. “Why are you guys here though?” Five sighed.
“Your room mates, well Sophie, think if we’re around long enough you’ll just like us again. But like I just said this is-”
“Between me and Luther, yeah.” You sucked in a deep breath and you could feel Max’s weary glance at you. “Well, thanks for this,” You said, shaking the present in your hand. “And thanks for coming. Help yourself to the food.” You gestured to the table and quickly turned away. Losing your friendship with the Hargreeves had been one of the worst parts of the whole situation and you were truly starting to wonder if you had been wrong from the beginning about them. You shook your head to clear that thought. No, no they were still the bad people you knew them to be. Sure, Five was his own entity and made his own choices separate of his siblings. But the others had set you up to be one big joke and you would not tolerate people like that nor let them back into your life. They were all like Luther, who wasn’t even present, cowards.
-
You sat in Max’s apartment that night as the rain pattered down. You guys had gotten one of the last summer rainstorms for the year that night and your whole world felt at peace. You’d been able to have a really good conversation with Ben and Vanya earlier, and while it didn’t change anything, the look Charlotte gave you was enough to ease just a little bit of the pain. Luther had still been a no-show, which was probably for the best. You weren’t sure how you would’ve reacted and you weren’t sure what might’ve come out of Max’s mouth. Your phone dinged and you looked down. Speak of the devil, you thought to yourself.
Hey, are you home? I have a birthday present for you.
You sighed as the phone dinged again.
I want to talk to you.
You could never say no to him and maybe... maybe just maybe this would give you the closure you needed to move on with your life.
Give me five minutes.
You pulled on your shoes. “Hey, someone is here to drop off a present for me. I’ll be back in like five, ten maybe?” You said, standing by the door. Max gave you a thumbs up and you disappeared out the door. You took a deep breath as your feet pounded down the stairs, anxious to get this over with. You opened the door to your building, warm water cascading down as you hurried over to Luther’s truck. You opened the passenger door and slid in, desperate to get out of the rain. He turned to look at you, giving you a soft smile. Your heart ached. He wordlessly handed you neatly wrapped gift. You took an unsure look at him and he nodded, encouraging you to open it. You tentatively and carefully unwrapped the gift, a book sliding out. It was an original copy of your favorite book, and you looked up at him, a warmth spreading over you. “Luther, how- we talked about this, what, maybe once?” He shrugged as you bit your lip. He shifted in his seat and you looked back to him.
“(Y/N), I’m really sorry about all of this.”
“Luther-”
“I just want things to go back to the way they used to be. Where we were friends and my favorite part of my day was getting to see you smile.” You closed your eyes, heart warring over disappointment and forgiveness. You were disappointed it had taken this long to hear him say those words, over the way you knew things could never go back to the way they used to be, but your heart felt forgiveness towards him all the same. You opened your eyes and you realized you were much closer to Luther than you had originally realized. “I really want to kiss you.” He whispered. You closed your eyes, and connected the distance, throwing everything to the wind, to just know what this feeling was like one time. The book slid off your lap, thudding to the floor of the car, and you pulled away abruptly. Why had you done that? Now you were only going to be able to think of the taste of his lips on yours as your heart continued to break over the fact that you could never have him.
“I’m sorry Luther, really, I- I can’t.” You whispered, grabbing the book off the floor of the car. He looked at you in hurt and the look was enough to make you run, slamming the car door behind you. The rain seemed to come down harder as you rushed back inside, willing yourself not to cry. He had hurt you, and no kiss could change that. You could forgive him, but you could never forget.
-
You could hear the noise from down the hallway, which only made your feet move faster in giddy excitement. A bunch of you were getting together to have dinner at Max and Elena’s, and even though Allison and Diego (and probably Lila if you were being honest, because the girl didn’t go anywhere without Diego) were going to be there, it couldn’t diminish your excitement for the night. You let yourself into the apartment you were a constant visitor of, and the boys cheered as you kicked off your shoes. There were a few graduated students here and one, Dean, had just gotten back from a few months in Italy and he wrapped you in a hug. You were surprised, you hadn’t expected to see the boy for at least another few weeks. He squished your face as you turned, surveying who else was there. As to be expected, Allison was seated next to Elena and Diego and Lila were in the living room with a few of Max’s friends. You made your way over to the couch, sitting down as the boys played Mario Kart.
“So, (Y/N), any new romantic prospects on the horizon?” Reyna, a senior theatre major, asked you. You shook your head.
“That’s not what I heard.” Dean said, taking a sip of his drink. Everyone turned to look at him, but he turned to Max, a smirk on his face. “She kissed Luther.” You shot up from where you were laying on the couch as everyone turned their attention back to you.
“I’m never telling you anything ever again.” You said seriously, but his grin was light and teasing and you don’t think he even really knew what he had just done.
“You kissed Luther?” Max questioned but Allison broke into a shit-eating grin.
“Alright, finally! Took you like eight months longer than I had expected though.” She said.
“No, no. Yes, I kissed him, but it wasn’t like that. It was a mistake and it’s never happening again.”
“When?” Max asked, voice grave.
“My birthday.” Max sighed, turning his back to you.
“So.. you kissed Luther. That should change everything.” Diego stated.
“It doesn’t change the fact that you guys fucked me over.”
“What did we do to make you hate us so much?” Lila asked.
“I was just some sick joke to you guys, you played with my feelings and left me humiliated, and I refuse to be the butt of everyone’s jokes. I was in high school and I refuse to be the same here, especially not to you people.”
“What are you talking about?” Diego questioned, eyebrows furrowed. You sighed.
“I’m not explaining it to you. You can’t even be bothered to own up to it.” you huffed, pushing yourself up from the couch. You pushed past Dean and Reyna, making your way out of the apartment, and down the hall. So much for a fun night.
-
The door slammed behind her. Diego swiveled towards her friends, utterly confused. Why hadn’t Luther told anyone he had kissed her? “Okay, what just happened?” Allison questioned. Max sighed.
“She has it in her head that this is some sort of elaborate prank to humiliate her for liking Luther.” Elena explained.
“That’s ridiculous, we’d never do something like that.” Allison defended. Max sighed, yet again.
“Look, this is something you may not know about her, but you have to understand. While she was in high school, and throughout her freshman year, she was the butt of everyone’s jokes, constantly being played and left out. It wasn’t even until she became friends with us that she got a taste of what real friendship is like. So, for you guys, the most popular people on campus to actually like her? It’s foreign and she doesn’t know how to handle that.”
“But Luther wouldn’t hurt her like that. He really liked her, still does.” Diego defended. She should know Luther better than that. Max shrugged.
“I said that too. She told me this story, how in middle school, boys would come up to her as a joke, to ask her out to embarrass her and run away laughing when she’d say yes. I think it left a memory that no one would ever really like her, so for Luther to like her, her first thought is that it was some twisted prank rather than him actually liking her.” There was pause. “As much as she wants to pretend that this doesn’t change anything, it changes everything. And I really hope she figures it out because I’ve never seen her as happy then when she was with him.”
-
You sighed as you locked the door to the Writing Center. It was late at night and you were dreading the walk back to your apartment. You and Sophie were originally supposed to work this shift together but she had changed her mind at the last minute, not wanting to be on campus so late. It was fine, really, but it left you without another tutor and without a ride back to the apartment. “Hey, are you just heading you out?” You heard from behind you and you turned to see Luther. You nodded, not trusting your voice. “Can I give you a ride?” You shook your head.
“It’s fine Luther, really.”
“Please? It would make me feel better knowing you got home safely.” You wanted to make a snarky remark about not doing things for him but you couldn’t bring yourself as you looked at him. You knew that as much as you didn’t want to sit in a car with him, you didn’t want to walk home this late at night more. It also meant a lot that even after everything, he still cared so much about your safety. You nodded, readjusting the straps of your bag on your shoulders. He cracked a soft smile and the two of you walked out in silence to his car. He opened your door for you and you slid in, dropping your bag to the ground. He walked around the back and got in, starting the car. The ride back to your apartment was silent and awkward and you felt a wave of relief roll over you as you saw your apartment building come within sight. Luther parked the car, but you made no move to get out. He had turned the car off completely and you had a feeling there was something he wanted to say. The silence continued until you felt forced to say something.
“Luther, I’m sorry, I really am.” He looked at you.
“Why’d you kiss me?” You sighed, shrugging, as you pulled the sleeves of your sweatshirt around your hands.
“I wanted to know what it was like.” You said softly.
“I just... still don’t understand what happened that day. I mean, I really liked you, I still do, and I thought that you liked me back. But then you freaked out, and I still don’t understand it.” He said, never once taking his eyes off of you.
“I was, I am in love with you, and all I ever was to you was some sick joke for laughs. I couldn’t do it.”
“You think you were joke? (Y/N), I am just as equally in love with you, and I would never hurt you like that.”
“Why? Why are you in love with me? What could I possibly have to offer you that every other girl on campus who pines after you doesn’t have? I’m certainly not as pretty or as smart as some of the girls you hang out with.”
“Because you’re you! Because when I’m having a bad day, I can just talk to you and it seems like all my problems fade away. Because you’re so incredibly smart and passionate and you aren’t afraid to pursue your dreams. Because you get along with my siblings, because I can get lost in your eyes! There’s not another girl on campus who looks at me for me and not for my name.” By this point, you were in tears as you had a horrible sinking feeling that you had royally fucked up. This whole time, you had thought it was a prank meant to hurt you when you had been the one to cause all the hurt. All this... for what? “And I thought after that day that you kissed me, that things might get better, but we still aren’t talking to each other but I just want my friend back, in any way I can have her.” Your head rested in your hands, unsure of what to do or what to say. You were still crazy in love with boy, and he you.
“Where do we go from here?” You whispered, looking up at him from your hands.
“Well, you have two options. You walk back inside your apartment and don’t look back, and we let the other go. Or you sit here and we talk about everything that needs to be talked about.”
“I mean, how do we even fix this Luther?”
“We start over. Start from a place of trust and communication. Tell me the truth about the last six months.”
“You want the truth? I am in love with you and it scares the hell out of me, because I’m so used to everyone leaving me or using me for their own gain. And I was so scared you would be like everyone else that I left before you could hurt me anymore, convincing myself this was some elaborate lie to hurt me. But the last six months have been hell and there were nights where I wanted nothing more than to seek you out because I felt so alone.” Your voice broke on the last word and you weren’t sure how much more of this you could take.
“I would’ve been there, you know. If you had asked.” You nodded.
“I’m sorry Luther.” You whispered, and he put his hand on your knee.
“I’m sorry I never reached out earlier. I should’ve, because you were clearly not okay.” You shrugged, wiping your tears.
“I kinda deserved it.”
“Hey, I could’ve at least fought for the girl I’m in love with. I just let you walk out of my life.” You took a sharp breath because you weren’t quite sure you’d ever get used to hearing him refer to you as the girl he was in love with. You looked up at him and he inched closer. “I’m going to kiss you again, if that’s okay with you, but you have to promise not to run away again.”
You nodded. “I promise I’m not going anywhere as long as you want me here.” He kissed you again, and it was so wonderfully different from the last time, because you were both trying to communicate everything you weren’t sure how to say, and because you weren’t sure this would be the last time you’d kiss him. He pulled away, but the two of you remained quite close, feeling his lips mumble his next words against yours.
“Five owes Kayla so much money.” You laughed, cupping his face. He smiled at you.
“Hey, can I kiss you again?” He nodded, and you placed a short, but sweet kiss on his lips. He held you close though.
“Hey, what are you doing on Saturday?” You shrugged.
“Nothing.”
“You want to go on a date?” You nodded, smiling giddily. A pause. “Hey, we can’t hang out on Saturday. I’m taking a really pretty girl on a date.” You snorted.
“Oh yeah?” He nodded, a stupid grin on his face.
“Yeah, I’m really nervous.”
“Well, you should give me a kiss for good luck then. The date has to go well, obviously.” He smirked and kissed your lips again. You reveled in the feeling as he pulled away. You let his thumb rub soft circles on your cheek as you looked at him. Your phone dinged, and you sighed. It was Sophie, asking if you’d be home soon. “I should probably get inside, it’s getting late.” He nodded, looking slightly disappointed. “Can I have a goodnight kiss?” He nodded, pressing a brief kiss to your lips. “I never want to stop doing that.” He smiled. “I’ll text you in the morning, okay?” He nodded again.
“Sleep well.” He said as you opened the door, grabbing your bag from the floor. You slung it over your shoulder as you stood by the door.
“Night Luther. Love you.”
Being able to say the words freely put a smile on your face, which only grew when he responded with a “Love you too.” You shut the door, waving to him as you headed inside your apartment building. For the first time in months, you could go to sleep feeling the happiest you had in years. For the first time, everything was going just right, even if had taken a couple months longer and left turns to get there.

Hi, I just found your fics on ao3 and I love them! So I wanted to ask for a prompt please. 😊 Alex/Reggie Angst prompt #13 “We never were just friends, and you know it.” “I know it, but you deserve someone better than me.” But with a Hapoy Ebd if possible. Thank you 💜💜
I totally loved this prompt, but I also just really love Alex/Reggie and love having an excuse to write more stuff for them. Thank you for this and I hope you like it <3
It had been a very long and stressful day for Reggie and it was barely even 8 AM. He never minded biking to school, usually enjoying the wind in his hair as he rode. Today, he wasn't getting any enjoyment out of it, too busy focusing on the insults his parents had chosen to throw around today. He was already halfway through his trek to school when rain began to beat down, which killed the last little bit of chance for him to be in a good mood.
Taking a sharp left, the opposite direction from his school, Reggie decided to not even try to put up with anything today. Instead he drove towards the garage, knowing that at this point no one would be there, already heading to work or school. He could have some time alone with his thoughts, even if he knew that wouldn’t end too well.
Time alone he got, stashing his bike in the bushes beside the garage and ducking into the building. His home away from home. He let out a small sigh, quickly changing into one of the extra outfits he had stashed, drying his hair with one of the towels from the bathroom.
He killed time by switching between writing down random lyrics, practicing a few of their songs on his bass or answering random math problems from his textbook. His thoughts spiraled despite his efforts, worsening his mood. It was on the sixth cycle of those tasks when the garage door flew open, Alex storming in. He slammed the door just as a bolt of lightning lit up the windows around them.
He let out a sharp breath, startling at the slam of the door and then at the following clap of thunder. The fact that he now had an intimidating blonde drummer standing over him as well did not help the fear and panic rising in his chest.
Alex opens his mouth but another loud clap of thunder keeps him from speaking, but it does jolt Reggie from his spot on the couch, snagging the blanket beside him as he bolts into the small bathroom in the back of the garage.
“Reggie?” Alex’s voice is small through the door, meek compared to how pissed he had previously looked. “You okay?” Reggie doesn’t voice a reply, only whimpering as he pulls the blanket tight around himself.
The bathroom door slowly opens, Alex coming in slowly and shutting the door behind him. He kneels in front of the shower that Reggie was currently cowering in. His face was completely void of any anger it previously held, replaced instead by a deep concern that almost scared Reggie more.
Wordlessly, Alex drew the smaller boy into his arms, shifting around so that he was now on the shower floor, Reggie tucked safely against his chest. They sat there in the mostly-dark and mostly-silent bathroom, no words or lights needed.
Every crack of thunder drew whimpers from Reggie’s mouth, which brought out hushed coos from Alex as he rubbed small circles into the bassists back through the blanket. After a while, the thunder seemed to get far enough away which put the boy at ease.
“Thank you, ‘Lex.” Reggie mumbled, pulling his face away from where it had been tucked under Alex’s chin. “You’re a great friend.”
“Of course.” The blonde offered him a kind smile, reaching a hand up to wipe at a few stray tears. “We were never just friends, and you know it.”
Alex’s intent was to ease the tension, ignore the fluttering in his chest, but the ‘We’re best friends!’ died somewhere in his throat as his eyes caught Reggie’s, his fingers frozen where they laid splayed across his cheek.
“I know it.” Reggie’s voice is tiny, just above a whisper. “But you deserve someone better than me.” He lets out a shaky breath, leaning into the hand on his cheek, as if he were trying to appreciate the contact before it was gone forever.
“What?” Alex’s reply comes out sharp, causing Reggie to flinch slightly. “Fuck, I mean, what do you mean I deserve better than you?” He softens his voice, not wanting to send him back into a panic.
“Means how it sounds.” Reggie shrugs, his gaze falling downward. “I’m not good enough for you, not good enough for any of you guys.”
Alex can feel his heart practically shatter in his chest, thoughts racing through his mind. From Holy shit what does Reggie mean ‘I know it’ to Who could be better than Reggie? The bassist doesn’t seem to catch on to the influx of thoughts that Alex had been hit with, taking his silence to heart.
“See? You can’t even say anything, maybe they’re right.” Reggie gave a bitter laugh, attempting to shuffle off of Alex’s lap. At his movements, Alex’s brain finally caught up on the moment and he pulled the boy back into him, tucking him tightly back against his chest.
“That’s not it at all! I don’t know who told you that you’re not good enough, I didn’t say anything because I’m trying to figure that out. Reg, you’re the sweetest and best person I know.” Alex’s eyebrows were crinkled in concern, moving to cup his friend's face again. “You’re more than good enough, sometimes it feels like you’re too good for us, like you should be with better friends.”
This time, it was Reggie’s turn to be confused and concerned.
“Better friends? Alex, you guys are the best! All I do is drag you guys down.” Reggie shifted, moving his hand up to cup Alex’s cheek, mirroring his stance.
“Drag us down? I know I give you shit sometimes, but you could never drag us down.”
“You don’t have to lie to make me feel better, I know how annoying I can be. I can’t even handle thunderstorms without crying.” Reggie’s bitter laugh gave a slight echo through the small shower walls.
“I’m not lying, Reg. Sure, you can be annoying sometimes, but so can Luke and Bobby. Being annoying is basically a human quality. You can’t beat yourself up for how you react to storms, or anything else, it’s not like you want to be scared of them.”
“You say this like it’s the easiest thing ever.” Reggie felt tears well up in his eyes again, sniffling as he brushed his thumb against Alex’s cheek.
“That’s because it is the easiest thing ever.” Alex gave him a sweet smile, gently wiping at the tears. “Talking to you, giving you advice, giving you shit, they’re all the easiest things ever.” He gave a laugh, nudging his nose against Reggie’s with his joke. “Loving you, Reg? Easy as breathing.”
Reggie felt his breath catch in his throat, emerald eyes meeting crystal blue. He searched those eyes, looking for any sliver of doubt, any trace of a lie or ingenuity. Coming up empty, this throat easing and allowing his breath to escape.
Surging forward and capturing Alex’s lips in his was an easy choice, his eyes fluttering shut was just an extension of that. The kiss was awkward and messy, teeth clacking together, tasting salty from Reggie’s tears, but neither boy minded.
Reggie pulled away, taking in a sharp breath, but he was quickly chased by Alex, his lips reclaimed in a softer, gentler kiss. This one was less teeth and more just their lips moving in tandem. The salty taste was still there, though neither of them really minded it.
They stayed in the bathroom for who knows how long, swapping smiles and kisses, so few words spoken.
Until obviously, someone had to break the spell.
“Wait.” Reggie pulled away, eyes narrowing at the other boy. “Easy as breathing? Alex, you have fucking asthma.”
“Listen, I never said I was good with words, okay?”
“Yeah, that’s why you retook Sophomore literature your Junior year.”
“Bold words coming from someone who had to be carried through Freshman history.”
“Carried you say? Who did your math homework last week?”
“Hey! You offered!”
They continued on with their half-assed argument, teasing each other back and forth, it was their usual game. This time, the rules had changed and they were occasionally swapping little kisses, hesitant touches and heartfelt glances.
Maybe today wasn’t as stressful as it had started out, but the storm wasn’t gone. Not with the lightning behind Alex’s eyes, the electricity in their touches and the thunder in Reggie’s heart, but he thinks he can live with this storm.

Have I ever told you that you are the sweetest cupcake ever?❤️ It’s impossible to not smile at your posts! I sincerely thank you for all your sympathy towards me! My heart just melts! It’s so rare to find such a pure and kind soul like you. Please, don’t change. Ever.
You made me worried a bit with your last paragraph - maybe I am oversensitive, but I am really worried. It breaks my heart honestly, I feel like you belittle yourself. Babe, you are wonderful! I am not saying this just for you to feel better, but because you REALLY are. Think for a moment about things you’ve already achieved! Darling, you graduated! It’s really something. It is even more something when you study two different majors at the same time and study in language school at weekends. It’s real hardcore! I am proud of you. SO FREAKING MUCH! You did so well and you did so much! Please, be aware of it. You are incredibly talented and creative. YOU are hard working, not me. And you know what? Please, have a proper rest. Don’t overwork yourself anymore. You have to have some space just for you. You have to rest and regain your balance. Don’t think about writing as your duty. I know you feel responsible for all requests you have. But they really won’t run away or disappear. They all will be waiting to be written when you rest. Don’t pressure yourself, I beg you. You know I love your writing. We all here love it. But we love you even more. Taking a break it’s not bad. It’s necessary. When you rest you will be able to concentrate, you will have a fresh mind and new ideas. Just remember that you are a priority.
Speaking of your visit to Prague. OMG, THIS ASTRONOMICAL CLOCK!! I envy you soooooo much! I wish I could see it by myself someday! Thank you so much for the photo! And geez, you are the very first person admitting that museums are wonderful! No one amongst my friends likes them and it hurts so much, because I couldn’t go to the Uffizi museum and Palazzo Vecchio in Florence. I would love to go to any museum with you then! Museum of sex toys sounds really interesting, mostly because it’s not about modern toys. Like, I would never thought that people could have such rich sex life! I heard that in Amsterdam and Paris there are similar museums. But! I bet you would love icelandic museum of punk. Ohh, I am pretty sure you would enjoy it! It’s really small, because well..Its former public toilet. Buuuut, if you like non-obvious museums this is definitely for you. Whale museum was also pretty good. Or I enjoyed it just because I love whales. I was also in a museum of teddy bears in Seoul and it was the cutest museum I have ever been in! Tell me more about that vegan restaurant! What good did you eat? I am not vege myself, but I avoid eating meat on a daily basis so it’s easy to make me excited with such things!
I am not sure if I am better. I mean, I changed my mind about being able to sleep all day. I am not able to sleep at all at the moment. I am tired and my eyelids are so heavy, but sleep never comes. I guess insomnia hits again, it's a never-ending circle. But I am concerned about your leg! I guess you had spoken with doctor since you got xray and usg. Did they say anything? Any ideas of what it could possibly be? It has to be something serious if you have problems with walking! How did you manage to go sightseeing in Prague? Babe, please, take care of yourself! And what does “health problem AGAIN” mean?! Have you had such a problem before?? It scares me like.. we just started adulthood? My friend sneezed and it made him lay in bed for 6 days not being able to move. Literally.
Yeah, I was in South Korea, but please, do not perceive me as your role model. Gods, it would be a terrible decision, really. But, I would love to share some stories with you if you want! I know it's a popular destination these days because of kpop. I used to listen to it, but I think a few years ago kpop was better? More interesting? Now I’m more into khh, but I think I can’t say that I’m into it anymore.
Talking about music! I discovered two new songs and I bet you know them already, but for me it was huge woah woah woah! First of it - Sabaton. Thay covered Metallica’s For Whom The Bell Tolls and they did it so good! Secondly - The Heart Asks Pleasure First. They basically made their own song based on one of my favourite piano songs. Oh my.. it’s sooo good!
And still talking about music! I just wanted to say that I also love our Wombo edits! That one with Ezio singing Stressed out was perfect! Mr Auditore looked very believably singing it. I liked the one with Edward and Haytham. I don’t know the song but it had such a christmas vibe! It made me think of Edward and Shay singing Last Christmas or some other shitty Christmas song together. Why them? No idea. I love Altair, but your latest headcanons could make me love them even more.
And! I just wanted to tell you that you inspired me to take japanese lessons on Duolingo. I am aware that such app won’t help me with learning such a language, but at least I can tell you that katakana sucks. Gods, I hate it so much. Hiragana is so pleasurable to learn. And I know katakana is visually similar, but it is a no no from me. I have learnt some basic kanji signs. And I just admire you so much more.
I hope you will have wonderful and peaceful week, Babe! Once again, please take care of yourself. Remember to have proper rest, sleep at least 8 hours and drink water! I hope your leg will be better soon!
🔪

I generally have some weird health issues. I had 5 surgeries for different stuff (spine, tumor, nose) so like... Generally i am healthy... Or at least i was until thst damned foot decided to show off. Its been 4 weeks and im still looking for a solution, running different tests and all. Hopefully they will figure out whag is going on.
Yes TELL ME ALL THE STORIES ABOUT KOREA.! I love stories, tell me everything!
Tbh i never listen ed to k-pop. I guess its just nkt my type of music but I enjoy some Japanese and Chinese songs (one i like is Arrogant by Xiao Zhang). I know songs you sent me and gods they are amazing! I love sabaton, rock/metal im general but I listen to all kind of music. Like Italian soundtrack from Winx, music from burlesque, Dragonforce, shanties. If there are k-pop songs you like you can always send then to me! Ill gladly listen to them all!
Im glad you like those wombos i guess i should make more! 😂😂
And gods. Katakana. 4 years of learning Japanese and I still need katakana board to remember those signs! And tbh i feel like Japanese duolingo has some mistakes ;/ but for Japanese i used lingodeer app and it was nice!
Knifey Im very sorry you have troubles sleeping. Is there something you can do to make it easier for you? Maybe you can take some melatonin pills? Maybe you are stressed? Can you maybe contact doctor, maybe they can help? I dont want anything bad to happen to you! Please take care of yourself? Pretty please?
Love you so much Knifey, you are such a sunshine and I just want you to be happy and healthy!

Coffee Cup Woes
Jaune's history tutor is really pretty. Like REALLY pretty. Like way out of his league pretty. And he liked her, a lot. Liked her liked her. Head over heels for her. Pyrrha's history student was a delight. His smile lit up her darkest days, and he was sweet and kinder than anyone she'd ever met. She liked him, a lot.
They were perfect for each other, but sadly, both of them were idiots, and were too scared to make the first move.
Sometimes people needed a little push. Luckily their friends were more than up for the job.
Sometimes complementary mini muffins are the only comfort in this cold dark world.
AO3 LINK
“But what if she doesn’t like me?” Jaune lamented, stopping and sitting at their table instead of working like he should have been.
“Don’t worry, she likes you,” Ren reassured him, jotting down something from his text book.
“But how do you know that?”
“I read her diary,” Nora shrugged, popping one of the complementary mini muffins into her mouth.
“You what?!” Jaune squaked, and winced when his tone drew the curious stares of nearby patrons. “You what?” he repeated, in an outraged whisper. “Why?”
“Well, she left it on her dresser when she went to track practice,” Nora explained to Jaune’s dumbfounded expression. “And Ren wasn’t around to stop me.” She said this like that explained everything, but it mostly just left Jaune gaping like a fish out of water.
“I am about ninety percent of Nora’s impulse control,” Ren reminded him, and plucked a mini muffin out of her hands without looking up from his book. “And no more muffins unless you don’t want to get pancakes for dinner.”
“Yes, Ren,” Nora sighed on reflex.”
“Nora, you can’t just read your roommate’s diary!” Jaune spluttered, flapping his arms about in an excellent impression of a drowning goose.
“In my defense, I didn’t know it was her diary at first. I thought it was just a very formal handwritten book.”
“The words “Dear Diary” didn’t clue you in at all?” Jaune asked, making quotes in the air with his fingers.
“She didn’t write “Dear Diary,” Nora retorted, copying his quotes with exaggerated gestures, “she just wrote the date. Besides, I don’t think she’ll get mad about me reading it.”
“Of course she won’t!” Jaune seethed as loudly as he could without drawing stares again. “She’s like the nicest, sweetest, forgivingest person who ever existed! You could pour boiling hot soup in her lap and she’d probably apologize.”
He slumped down in his chair and put his face in his arms. “I’ve really got it bad, don’t I?” he mumbled.
“You sure do, Jauney!” Nora said happily, ruffling his hair fondly.
“Shut up, Nora,” he grumbled, beating away her hands and fixing his unruly hair as best he could.
“I don’t think “forgivingest” is a word,” Ren commented.
“You also shut up,” Jaune muttered, his voice muffled behind his arms. “You aren’t helping.”
“But anyway, the morality of diary read aside, she definitely likes you,” Nora concluded, eyeing the mini muffins and wondering if the threat of no pancakes was worth the risk.
“But does she really?” Jaune asked, rolling his head to the side so he could gaze up at her with a truly pathetic expression on his face. “Like, girls don’t like me, Nora,” he explained, straightening up.
“What about Ruby?”
“She’s different,” Jaune said, waving away Ren’s comment. “I’ve known Ruby since forever, she’s like my sister.”
“Yeah, ‘cause you really need more of those,” Nora muttered, rolling her eyes.
Jaune plowed on like he hadn’t even heard her, and with how tunnel-visioned he was, maybe he really hadn’t heard her.
“No like, like me like me, ya know?” Jaune clarified, but not really. “I barely even get to the friend stage with most people, let alone with girls. I don’t think a girl has ever has a crush on me in all eighteen years of my life.”
He was running out of momentum, which was good, because she’d known him to rant for hours if you let him get a full head of steam. “So I need you to be totally, absolutely sure,” he was saying when she checked back into the conversation, “because I really like her, and just...ya know...I hope she likes me,” he concluded rather lamely, stealing one of the mini muffins Nora had been eyeing and stuffing it in his mouth.
“Aren’t you supposed to be working?” Ren asked, glancing up at his friend.
“Shush, I’m on break or something,” Jaune mumbled around a mouthful of muffin. “Neptune’ll cover for me.”
“I don’t know how many times we have to tell you before you get it,” Nora grumbled. “She’s into you! Why don’t you see it?!” she fumed, miming strangling him.
“But does-?”
“Yes! Yes she does!” Nora interrupted him, throwing her hands up in the air. “I read what she said about you, and if I have to read one more sentence about your cute butt and floofy hair, I think I might vomit.”
“You didn’t have to read the original sentences, to be fair,” Ren pointed out, pulling a different, and somehow larger, reference book out of his bag.
“Shush you.”
“She thinks it’s floofy?” Jaune asked, touching the messy curls and blushing with delight. “That- that’s a good thing, right?” he asked, looking unsure.
“I give up,” Nora announced, “You’re hopeless, and I give up.” Then she stood and marched dramatically away, already texting furiously to somebody.
“You think she’s serious about that?” Jaune asked his friend out of the corner of his mouth as he watched the red head push her way through the throng of exhausted students.
“I’ve never known Nora to be serious about anything,” Ren assured him, checking his phone when it buzzed with texts, undoubtedly from Nora. “She’ll be back soon enough, once you stop acting like an idiot.”
“Hey!” That’s not fair,” Jaune pouted.
“It’s true though, you’re being an idiot about this,” Ren argued, glancing in the direction of the door when the bell indicated that someone new entered the already crowded coffee shop.
“Now come on, that’s not even remotely true,” Jaune scoffed, and deflated a little under Ren’s skeptical look. “Okay, it’s not entirely true, but-”
Ren fixed him with a piercing look from through his glasses. Jaune could only hold his intense gaze for a few moments before he was forced to look away. “Jaune,” Ren started, face and voice softening, “Why is it so hard for you to believe that she cares for you?”
Jaune looked like he was trying to collapse in on himself. “Because...she’s just so fantastic,” he mumbled, not meeting Ren’s gaze, “And I’m just sort of...not, ya know?”
“Have we ever lied to you before?” Ren asked, closing his books.
“I- what?” Jaune looked more taken aback by the sudden topic change than anything else.
“Answer the question, please.”
“I mean, no I don’t think you have,” Jaune answered, looking confused. “But why are you asking?”
“I’m asking, because if we haven’t lied to you before, then why would we start now?” Ren explained, glancing up at someone over Jaune’s shoulder and waving them over.
“So believe us when we say that she does like you,” Ren reassured him, standing and packing up his things. He patted Jaune on the shoulder, breaking him out of his shock.
“I’ve got to go and make sure Nora hasn’t decided to break anything in the five minutes I wasn’t there to stop her,” Ren said, beckoning the same person over again. “Besides, I believe there’s something you need to talk about.”
“Talk about with who?” Jaune asked, turning around and blushing right to the roots of his hair at the sight of the person Ren was talking with. “Oh hey, Pyrrha!” he said in a much higher pitched tone of voice.
“I assume you got Nora’s text?” Ren asked, a little too knowingly.
“I- yes,” she said, glancing at Jaune before focusing on Ren. “She said you needed to speak with me?”
“Actually, it’s Jaune who need to speak with you,” Ren clarified, glancing at his phone. “You can take my seat, I’m leaving anyway.” Hopefully Jaune could handle this by himself.
Jaune could not handle this by himself.
His face was bright red, and he knew it. Curse you Ren and Nora for obviously setting him up with this impromptu and definitely not-casual meeting. He had to tell her, he was going to tell her. But as soon as she sat down, Pyrrha flicked her long ponytail over her shoulder, and smiled shyly just at him. And he forgot how to speak in complete sentences.
“So, what did you want to talk to me about?” she asked, smiling softly. Her eyes were twinkling like emeralds, and she was actually sitting there and speaking to him. Pyrrha Nikos was sitting and talking to him over coffee.
Sure they’d spoken before in class, but this was different. They weren’t talking about history and the social implications of whatever, they were talking about potential emotions and stuff.
Or at least they would be if Jaune could stop staring at her.
Thunderstruck: so are they talking??!?
Dad: I did my part. They’re at least sitting at the table together.
Thunderstruck: mission “get these two idiots to make out” is a go!
Literal Child: Ice Queen, are you in position?
Mom: I don’t understand why I have to be the one to do this.
Goldilocks: because youre the only one of us who drinks that much coffee while you study
Mr. Kitty Cat Meow Face: She’s right you know
Goldilocks: thanks babe <3
Mom: And what is the point of code names if they are only getting typed in a group text?
Literal Child: LESS TEXTING MORE WATCHING!!
Literal Child: And it’s not a real mission without code names!!
Ocean Man: Remind me why Jaune gets to take off work but I don’t
Monkey King: because youre the only one we could get who could cover for lover boy during this whole schtick
Ocean Man: Thanks dude I always knew you’d have my back
Mr. Kitty Cat Meow Face: Shouldn't you be working and not texting us
Ocean Man: Shut
“Jaune?” Pyrrha prompted, now looking concerned by his silence.
He couldn’t say anything. It was like he’d swallowed a golf ball. Why couldn’t he say anything?!
Mom: Oh no.
Thunderstruck: what? WHAT??!
Mom: That blonde dolt is too love struck to speak.
Literal Child: you’re kidding
Literal Child: you’re kidding right??
Ocean Man: Nah, I can confirm that he’s just sitting there
Goldilocks: oh come on lover boy pull it together
Dad: We did think that this was a possibility. He does have a tendency to freeze up.
Mr. Kitty Cat Meow Face: Wait if we saw this coming then why did we leave this up to Jaune
Monkey King: it was basically the only option
Thunderstruck: believe me, she’s not much better than him
Mom: Wait hold on, shut up, I think they’re saying something.
“Are you feeling okay, Jaune?” Pyrrha asked, concern clearly rising in her face.
Come on, pull yourself together. You have to say something. Can’t just keep sitting here silence! Say something, anything! Anything but just sitting there staring at her like an idiot. And it was this thought that finally had Jaune creaking open his jaw and blurting out the first words that came to mind.
“Nora read your diary,” he all but yelled, still sitting as straight as a board, and bright red in the face.
Mom: Oh for fuck’s sake, you idiot.
Ocean Man: Mission failed, we’ll get ‘em next time
Literal Child: Ice Queen report!! what happened??
Mom: He just told her that Nora read her diary.
Thunderstruck: new mission operative: don’t let him die from embarrassment
Thunderstruck: i want to kill him first

Prompt: Ritz Hair
(inspired by this post)
“Temptation accomplished,” Aziraphale said, wiggling unconsciously before standing to follow Crowley across the park. He blinked a miracle – just a small one – and mentioned offhandedly, “what about the Ritz? I do believe a table for two has just miraculously become free.”
“Ah!” said Crowley, a lilt in his voice.
They moseyed across the lawn, without a care, without speaking. The world had reset, and it was as wondrous as always. Aziraphale was distracted first by the sky. What a beautiful color! That strange mix of yellow and cream that somehow blended into mute blue and orange. How was that even possible? He watched as a flock of pigeons circled them in a murmuration, shifting like the wind.
They ambled on under the delicately shuttering leaves of a maple tree. With every step, he felt years of dirt and gravel and cobblestone and cement layered beneath his feet. Around them, everywhere, life. Humans milling about. Going about the afternoon. Angry or ecstatic, or bored or triumphant. Every moment a gift. Every small expression of existence all but overwhelming because it was still here.
Aziraphale loved every second. He drank it in. He soaked in the happiness. Unbidden, adrift in his own thoughts, he glanced to his left.
Crowley sauntered, in the most exquisite expression of the word.* His chin was tilted upwards, his legs crisscrossing languidly with every stride. Aziraphale had to admit that, throughout their long and sometimes sordid history, he had not failed to recognize the demon’s innate hypnotic attraction. Well, what was one to expect from a tempter? This current incarnation though, he had to admit, was fairly perfection, at least where Aziraphale was concerned.
“You see something you like, angel?” Crowley said as an aside, not moving his head. Aziraphale blushed and looked away.
“I’m simply reveling in the existence of the world is all,” he said.
“Yeah,” Crowley said, and the smile remained in his voice.
They slipped into a comfortable silence, which was surprising in its own way. For so long they had relied on each other’s banter, the chattiness that would surround them whenever they got together. It was expected, soothing even. But now – with the apocalypse averted, this quiet between them felt somehow even more right. The cacophony of the street filled the space with its honking horns, the squeal of tires, the reassuring roar of engines. Everything felt proper. Back the way it should be.
Ahead of them, Aziraphale could just see the entry to the Ritz, and he picked up his pace slightly in anticipation. As he did so, though, he realized that Crowley had stopped walking, standing still in the middle of the sidewalk. He turned to confront him when the demon, oddly, snapped time still.
Aziraphale backtracked and approached him questioningly. “What is it?”
Crowley remained in place, but just as his inactivity started to cause Aziraphale concern, he spoke.
“I like going out to eat with you.”
“Well, why, yes,” What a strange thing to say! he thought. “So do I. I mean that is where we are headed.” He smiled warmly and gestured towards the Ritz.
“No,” the demon said, and his voice had changed. Lower. More introspective. “I mean yes, but not just that. I just wanted to say, I really like going to eat… with you.” He moved his head in a thoughtful swoop to aim his shaded gaze at Aziraphale. “I like you.”
Aziraphale felt his hands draw together, wringing a bit in front of the worn front of his waistcoat. He glanced to each side of himself, taking in the fact that yes, the street was in fact frozen around him. “I…” he started, and was struck by the fact that he was utterly unsure as to how to progress.
He had said some… horrible things to Crowley. He had wanted for so long to apologize for a multitude of indiscretions, but the most recent betrayal was the freshest wound. And if truly he no longer had a side, then, well, he felt he owed it to his friend to clear the air.
“I…” he started again, “I hope that my actions have helped to alleviate any doubt my misguided words may have produced.”
Crowley bobbed his head once, hesitated, then said, “what?”
Aziraphale worked his hands together tighter. Oh bother. “I mean, I’m sorry. I told you before I didn’t like you. I didn’t mean it.”
“Oh, that,” Crowley said and shook his head. “Good. No problem. I know.” He took a step forward, at the same time appearing ever so bold, yet hesitant somehow. The way he held his shoulders high, his fingers dug deep into his pockets. Aziraphale stared at him as he approached. Specifically, at a part of him slightly above his chin, and below his nose. When Crowley spoke, it was as if his words came from another world altogether. “I want to kiss you.”
The angel’s heart thumped. His entire being – his earthly form, his inner self, whatever he was and however he existed - stopped. For a very long time he processed what had just been presented to him. At a certain point, good manners made him attempt to say something, but Crowley held up a hand.
“I know. It’s why I paused time.” He shoved the hand back into his pocket. He was willing to wait.
Aziraphale said finally, very quietly, the thing that passed through his mind every time he dared let his thoughts wander to such indiscretions.
“That would change things, you realize.”
Crowley shrugged. “Things are always changing.”
He saw Crowley’s eyebrows raise over his glasses in expectation of an answer.
Part of him wanted to rail against the demon for being so unfair – even the voicing of such a thing in the frozen space between them had moved the needle inexorably past the critical point. Part of him wanted to laugh it off, as so often they did when things became a bit too tense. Yet another part wanted to pretend it didn’t matter, pretend that nothing had changed, and demand that the dear boy simply stop being ridiculous, and get on with the day.
But none of those parts of Aziraphale ended up having any say in the matter.
“Alright.”
The air around them seemed to hum slightly as Crowley, his companion for 6,000 years, gave no immediate reaction. Then he moved in that smooth, sly, easy way he did, flowing closer to him, then orbiting in a slow and measured pace an ever-tightening circle around him. Aziraphale could feel his eyes on him as he completed his circuit, Crowley coming to rest standing face-to-ever-so-close-face with him. Aziraphale feel his cheeks grow hot, his heart pound as if to leave his chest, dash it all, but he couldn’t find the strength just then to augment these infernal human reactions.
Crowley reached with his right hand and ran it up Aziraphale’s cheek. He would have closed his eyes to concentrate on the feeling if he wasn’t so focused at not missing what was directly before him. Leaving etiquette in the dust, he watched. He knew Crowley almost as he knew himself, he realized. The sharp edges of his jaw, the fine lines around his mouth, his warm breath and his hidden eyes. Knew his humor and his anger, his buried emotions and his brash exterior. He yes, knew his smell of leather and smoke, and he knew there were still secrets he didn’t know.
Like the way it would feel when he ran his fingers over his temples to brush a wisp of hair over his ear.  Like how patiently he’d lean in, with a little tilt to his head, to hover a mere wren’s-breath from Aziraphale’s lips. And how gently and effortlessly he closed that final gap and kissed him slow and soft, like clouds. Or snow.
Aziraphale felt blessed.
“You know I’ve thought about that?” Crowley whispered, like a feather brushing through the air, “You. What you’ve done to me.”
“My darling,” Aziraphale said, not really caring for words at the moment and drawing him back in. He spread his hands wide over Crowley’s back as he pulled him into another kiss. His hands ran up the back of his neck, through Crowley’s hair, dancing across his scalp until any remaining tenseness of the demon melted into a moan.
That moan was the sweetest thing the angel had ever tasted.
It was like the crack of dawn. A shooting star. Like the snap of a delicate biscuit. And Aziraphale consumed it and was desperate for more. Their bodies clutched together, Crowley breathing heavily as he kissed down the side of Aziraphale’s face, down his neck, nestling his nose into the space between his collar bone and shoulder. And they held each other.
“Supposed we’d better get a move on,” Crowley mumbled finally.
“Mmmm, yes,” Aziraphale mused. “Possibly to be continued after lunch?” He gazed at him and furrowed his brow. “Oh my dear, your hair!” He reached to attempt to brush the wild ruddy mess back into some sort of shape, but Crowley stopped him.
“Leave it,” he said, “I think I like it this way.”

*Footnote: (Spoken of John Muir, founder of the Sierra Club, in 1911) His blue eyes flashed, and with his Scotch accent he replied: "...People ought to saunter in the mountains - not hike! Do you know the origin of that word 'saunter?' It's a beautiful word. Away back in the Middle Ages people used to go on pilgrimages to the Holy Land, and when people in the villages through which they passed asked where they were going, they would reply, "A la sainte terre,' 'To the Holy Land.' And so they became known as sainte-terre-ers or saunterers. Now these mountains are our Holy Land, and we ought to saunter through them reverently, not 'hike' through them.

Escape Artist: Prologue [Aizawa x Reader]
Sorta reader insert, but not entirely. It's complicated. Either way, let's see where this takes us.
Masterlist
Prologue | Part 1
--------
Anyone would expect something as unnatural and intense as interdimentional time travel would have a lot of prompt and circumstances surrounding it, but the reality of it wasn't quite so complex. See, one moment she was sitting on her living room couch playing lazer pointer with her kitten, then she blinked and found herself on her ass in an alley. A clean alley, granted, but decidedly not her couch.
The short of it was that she'd somehow ended up in Japan, several hundred years in the future and in an entirely different dimension laden with superpowers and acid trip worthy mutations. Her only saving grace was the 'quirk' this new place saw fit to gift her with.
It's called 'The Gamer', and as anyone who's not been living under a rock for the better part of their life can guess, it basically gives her the perks and abilities of a videogame character. Namely, for her most immediate needs when she'd first arrived, the ability to function optimally without food, water, sleep, a toilet or even hygiene. For a woman who's suddenly found herself homeless, helplessly displaced and legally non-existent, it was truly the greatest boon this world could have given her.
So she wandered the streets, aimlessly but just put together enough thanks to her quirk to not draw unwanted attention. She found the language option about five hours after she'd arrived, and that helped a lot with just about everything. As did the subtitles option for any signs she came across, because, as she learned quickly, a audio-based translation system only works if words are spoken.
Other than those few changes she'd made to help her function in her new world though, she didn't think too much about her quirk and its implications while she grieved the loss of her family and precious fur-babies. It wasn't that she wasn't capable or able to, but rather that she just wanted to put her thoughts in order before she set up her life in the new place. Having the ability to coast through life on the minimal certainly gave her the option to.
That changed, however, three days into her displacement when she came across an unexpected variable to her plans- or lack thereof.
She'd been walking through the parts of the city with a more active night life to avoid any awkward question as to her nightly wanderings, when she'd heard a commotion in the alley over. Normally, she'd have ignored it all together or even steered clear of the sound to avoid conflict, but be it luck or fate the alley the noise came from was wide and bright giving her a glimpse at to it's secrets.
A young child was attempting to get into a dumpster, successfully perched on stacked boxes in order to reach the lid but lacking the strength to get the lid up. Honestly, it was quite pitiful and she couldn't for the life of her understand how a child could be so blatantly roaming the streets without having drawn the attention of near every adult walking by. But somehow there was indeed a homeless child trying to break into a dumpster and adults walking by not ten yards away. So she did what she'd assumed any good person would do in just such a situation.
"Do you need help, little one?" She asked with a warm smile, calling upon her years of customer service and babysitting experience to brighten her expression and pitch her voice to its sweetest, softest tone.
The child cast a startled glance her way before stilling and watching with barely contained suspicion as she stopped no more than 3 meters away. This close, a few things about the child's situation began to become clear to the woman.
His clothes were dirty but still in good condition, so she concluded he must have only recently become homeless. He was small, possibly even too small for his age and that's why he looked younger than he probably was. There were dark lines below his eyes that were too solid to be painted, so she concluded it must be one of those oddities everyone seemed to possess in this world. It was the half healed bruises that really caught her attention though. Simply put, the boy was littered in them from his lined cheeks to his filth covered hands.
Something dinged twice in her ear, but she chalked it up to some unseen mechanism in any one of the electric-based oddities scattered along the alley walls. It wouldn't be the first time something built after her time had left her confounded or startled out of the blue.
The stare off continued for a few moments until the boy suddenly begun to glow blue from the lines on his face and under his clothes and bolted down the alley faster than her eyes could track. He was there and gone before she could even blink, only the faint shifting of misplaced air left in his wake.
And that was that. Or at least, it might have been for anyone else.
It was as she was about to head back for the main road that something dinged again.
It took her longer than she'd like to admit to figure out it was coming from her quirk.
[New skill aquired: Observation]
[Congratulations! By aquiring your first skill you've passed the tutorial level. You now have full access to all of your quirk's abilities, including 'Stats', 'Skills', 'Bio', 'Inventory', 'Perks', 'Equipment' and 'Storyline'. Good luck, Gamer!]
And so, her life in this new world truly began.
---
Week 2
---
In all her years as a law abiding citizen in her former world, she never thought she'd become a career thief (Well, burglar, but she doesn't care much for technicalities). Then again, she never thought she'd end up with such an OP power either. Like right now walking around a darkened grocery store in the middle of the night, alarms flashing but completely unconcerned as she stuffs her inventory with food, drinks and any little nicknacks that might be useful.
With the ending of the tutorial came the swift realization that though she didn't need to eat to survive, the use of her quirk drained her energy reserves and that eating and drinking were the quickest- maybe even only- way to replenish them.
Her [Environmental Awareness] skill detects the approach of a hero (like, actual hero with powers and everything) and in the span of a heartbeat she's cast in the muted grays of her ID creation. She simply walks to the window, busts it open with a bat from her inventory and carefully slides herself from the store with minimal fuss, ever mindful of the broken glass.
Then she walks away, down a empty street void of life and color. Far away from the store she'd just robbed and the hero who'd come too late to stop her.
And just like that the underworld's newest villian, The Escape Artist, strikes again.
---
Week Three
---
The glowing boy was in the same part of town as he'd been when she'd first seen him, if a bit more out of the way this time. It took time to find him though, because the little shit was fast as a jack rabbit when startled and just as mean, but she eventually managed to get him cornered. Well, cornered was a strong word for what she'd done. More like followed him until he whipped around and glared her down like an unimpressed alley cat.
He glared, she offered food. The rest, as they say, was history.
He was the first, but he was far from the last.
---
Month 2
---
"You can have another one you know." Escape Artist said softly, holding out a still steaming meat bun to the skittish child standing a good five feet away from her, eyeing the food hungrily. The evidence of his first was still on his fingers and face, but evidently one just was not enough this time.
She'd had this child come to her before. Not to live with her as many of the other children she'd come across did, but simply because he knew she'd feed him if he just stuck close enough after her bi-weekly raids. He didn't have a name as far as she could tell, or more than likely does but just won't tell her, so she just refers to him as the Feral Grimlin. Which would have been funnier if the rabid little creature understood a single thing she said.
Not because he didn't understand his native language, but because she couldn't speak a lick of Japanese and apparently her Language options is a one way deal. Something, unfortunately, she didn't find out until she was asked where a karaoke bar was by some random drunk. After she'd pointed and told him where she'd seen one he'd given her a disgruntled expression, called her a 'damn foreigner' and then walked away in a huff. Not fun, but better than it could have been. It had simply been the first time she'd talked to someone who hadn't run away the moment she'd opened her mouth.
The child stared her down with his slitted, pale gold eyes, the length of his pointed ears pressed flat to his skull as he crept forward a step before stopping. In a moment of inspiration, Escape Artist pulled another bun from the rapidly depleting pile, offering both to the feral child.
His eyes lit up at the sight, before he seemed to remember himself and leveled her with a less than intimidating glare. He looked more like disgruntled kitten than anything and she had to fight not to chuckle.
To her left her first ever adoptee gave an unimpressed snort, mouth still stuffed with meat bun and gray eyes just as suspicious as ever as he eyed the gold eyed child with vague condescension.
She cast the little brat a sideways glare, equally unimpressed by this attitude as he was with the Grimlin child's. That moment of inattention was all the Feral Grimlin needed to dash forward and swipe the buns from her hands though, vanishing away into the dark a heartbeat later.
The gray eyed boy huffed a laugh, the lines across his face and body glowing faintly with each burst of sound that escaped him. His recently washed hair gleamed with the light too, pulled tight into a ponytail that flashed blue against the lamplight.
She smiled, still a little off put but not as much as she probably should have been. He was a little shit, yes, but he was hers and she loved the pint sized bastard too much to ever really be mad at him for long.
It was the first time in a long time she'd felt so shamelessly happy.
---
Month 4
---
She stole a child for the first time. Or, more specifically, she saved a child from being stolen by stealing her from whoever it was who'd been in the process of transporting her to some unknown location. In short, Escape Artist's world seemed now to revolve around who was the better thief and sometimes the consequences was another mouth to feed.
Luckily, one trip to the local police station later in ID mode and a brief appearance in the waiting room to plop the confused, sugar-loaded, sticky-faced child into the nearest chair and Escape Artist's part was done. Thankfully, with one less mouth to feed to go with the seven others waiting at home (plus about 3 other feral shitheads who lived elsewhere).
That was the first child she'd ever stolen, and that day the villian Escape Artist, the uncatchable thief of petty goods, earned the beginnings of a different reputation all together.
That child was the first, but she was far from the last.
And this is when the story truly begins.

When they had first met the actress that would play Y/N in the new Queen biopic, the woman was completely star-struck and a blubbering mess. But Roger Taylor, oh he was a different story. His jaw had hung open, for she was a complete carbon copy of the love of his life. His gaze had looked her up and down, completely missing how the real Y/N passed him by, slapping him over the head.    “Keep gawking like that and you’ll be sleeping on the couch,” she said, sauntering away, one of the movies PA’s running after her and showing her to the Live Aid stage.    Roger had to take a few seconds to snap out of the moment, only to see the actress smirk at him. “I’m going to take your reaction as a compliment, mister Taylor, but I do believe you should run after your wife. From what I’ve read she’s quite the woman.”    “That she is.” And with a loud "Wait, honey!" Roger rushed to Y/N’s side.    “ ‘M sorry,” he quickly pecked her lips, beard scratching her chin. “It’s just… for a second it was like I was transported back in time…”    “What? You saying I don’t look as pretty as I used to?” her eyebrow was raised, but there was that devilish glint in her Y/E/C orbs that told him- she was just teasing.    “Actually, the opposite. You look more beautiful with every day that passes.”    Y/N hummed, feeling Roger’s arms weave around her waist, so, she leaned back and rested her head against his shoulders, a finger tracing the line of a tattoo. When he had first brought up the idea of getting a sleeve Y/N was pissed. Not because she didn’t like them, the woman herself had a quill wrapped around her ankle, she was mad because she’d been deprived of that look for more than thirty years of their relationship.
“How dare you!” Y/N had emphasized each word with a hit of a pillow. “Why couldn’t you do it sooner!” Roger had been laughing throughout the whole thing, a hand sneaking underneath her assault, and grabbing at Y/N’s knee to pull her towards him, and ultimately make her flop down onto the bed. “Do you know, how much sex you’ve missed out on?”    He was hovering above her, a palm pushing a strand of Y/H/C hair away, grey weaving through it. “Then we have to make up for the lost time, don’t we?”    When his voice dropped down to a husk, usually Y/N would melt. But not this time.    “Do it on your own, Rog,” Y/N said and pushed him away, walking to sulk in the guest bedroom. “Thirty-seven fucking years and now he decides to make me lose my mind! I’m not as flexible as I used to be, you wanker!”    Roger had fallen asleep with a wide grin on his face.    “You know, I’m glad they’re recreating Live Aid,” Y/N’s voice brought him back to reality, the grip around her middle tightening. She’d always been a feisty woman, so the fact that he could call her his, and have been able to share his life together since 1979, was astonishing to him.    “Yeah?” Roger pecked her temple as Brian walked up to the two and the BoRhap guys nervously trailed behind him. “And why is that?”    “Cause you got me bloody hammered before the show,” she smiled, embracing Brian and standing next to the man as one by one they introduced themselves to her. Ben, who was playing Roger in the movie, was absolutely shaking from how nervous he was, so Y/N hugged him a bit longer. “You’re gonna be amazing,” she whispered to him. Pulling back, she looked at the four men gathered there. “You’re all gonna be fantastic and if Freddie could be here, I know he’d say the same.”    “Actually,” Brian piped up, a too happy of a look on his face, “he’d be asking why Melinda is here,” he gestured towards the Y/N of Bohemian Rhapsody.    That made the real one choke on her coffee and snort it through her nose. Rami instantly was by her side, offering a tissue as she, Bri and Rog laughed.    “So, the legend is really true- you were drunk while they performed the most iconic concert in history?” Joe asked as a stylist poofed up his wig a bit more.    Y/N smirked and nodded. “Also, Rog shagged my brains out five minutes before they had to go on stage,” she winked at Ben. “Couldn’t feel my legs, nor walk to the car afterwards.”    The guys’ mouths all hung open and they turned redder with each passing second.    “Honestly, Y/N, can’t you keep at least something private?” Roger exasperated, watching Brian as he fixed Gwilym’s wig. When Y/N had first seen the actor in the full get up, her eyes almost had bugged out of her head and the cup of tea, she had been nursing, had shattered on the ground.    “That bad?” Gwil had nervously laughed as Y/N came towards him and poked his cheek.    “Holy shit, it’s real,” she’d whispered, causing Roger to cackle, who had been watching the whole scene unfold. She’d turned to him and in a conspiratory tone stated, “I told you, Rog, cloning exists! Years ago! And now they got your DNA from one of the groupies you once shagged, and the apocalypse is starting now. Holy shit, he’s Brian!”    And that had eased all of the tension there could possibly be, for everyone had the approval of the three most important people.    Throughout the filming, Y/N was on set constantly. Not only had she been close to the band and still was, but she had also been best friends with Freddie.    “Honestly, darling,” he’d said to her years ago as both sat on the steps of the Garden Lodge, Delilah rubbing her head up and down Y/N’s thigh. “If I didn’t have Mary and Delilah here, you’d be the love of my life.”    “Oh, shut it Fred!” she had laughed and placed her head on his shoulder. “We both now, Delilah has you wrapped around all her tiny paws.”    And he’d hummed in agreement, watching the sun rise with his best friend dozing on his shoulder.    She hung out with all of the guys as much as possible, giving a third-party opinion and directions, for how the band used to act, and some little things that each did, either when nervous or when playing their instruments.    At that moment, Y/N was relaxing in one of the seats, after having shooed a fifth PA away by saying, “Love, you brought me a cup ten minutes ago.” The young woman had bashfully smiled at the legendary woman and Y/N had just waved her off, telling, “Go. Relax. I see how all of you run around like chickens without heads. You must be exhausted. And if anyone gives you any shit, you come and talk to me. Immediately.”    The PA gave Y/N a look of pure relief, before peeling away to take a nap in some corner. She smiled, thinking as long as the girl pulled through the hectic life that was being in the entertainment industry, she had a bright future ahead of her.    “They really don’t do you justice in the movie,” Ben’s deep voice came from Y/N’s left and she smiled at the boy. Well, man, but he was the baby of the cast and she just couldn’t stop herself.    “You know, I helped with the script revisions.”    “Then you’re too modest, cause with everything that we’ve read and filmed, it truly doesn’t let your heart shine.”    Y/N threw him a wink. “You already get to make out with young me as young Roger. No need for flirtin’. Besides… this is about Freddie and Queen. I was and still am just lucky to call them a family.”    A fond look came over her face as the memory of their most recent Christmas came to mind. All of them, Deaky and Veronica included, had gone out to a market, intended on buying their grandchildren and each other presents, but a few cups of beer and mulled wine later, they’d ended up stumbling around London and wreaking some havoc. Y/N was surprised nothing was in the press the next day, for it was an adventure worthy of the front page.    “Can I just say, Ben, you’re nothing like Roger, when he was young,” Y/N returned to the present day and sipped on her still warm coffee.    Immediately at the comment, she saw the young man’s face fall.    “Oh, no, honey, I didn’t mean it like that. Trust me, it’s a compliment.”    “What’s a compliment?” Roger’s voice invaded the pair’s conversation, as he plopped down next to his wife, draping an arm around her shoulders.    “I was just saying how different Ben is from you when you were young, and how that is a good thing,” she emphasized the last bit, hoping to ease the young actor’s nerves.    Roger put a hand on his chest in mock hurt. “How is that a good thing?”    “You were a bloody self-centered, egotistical asshole who only cared if he had a hole to put his dick in by the end of the day! And contrary to you, Ben is the sweetest, kindest most humble person I’ve ever met.”    From the corner of her eye, Y/N saw Ben blush at the compliment and she threw him a wink.    “Hey!” Roger tapped Y/N’s shoulder. “No flirting. He could be your grandson.”    “What can I say? He just makes me remember the good old days before you became a shrivelled prune,” the woman said, snuggling closer to Roger’s side who fondly smiled down at her.    “If you don’t mind me asking- how come you two have worked so well over the years?” said Ben with awe in his eyes, as Roger lovingly stared at Y/N who snorted. “You two come from completely different worlds.” And it was true. She was a world-renowned novelist and Rog was a rock-and-roll drummer.    Y/N had actually been the one to achieve fame half a decade before Queen was even on the map, but she never had and still didn’t care about recognition.    “Cause I call him out on his bullshit. And also, we broke up one time, so it wasn’t all roses…” she answered, mischievously looking at her husband.    That took Ben by surprise. “Wait you broke up? How come no one has ever spoken about it?”    “Well, cause it was only two days. And it wasn’t a breakup,” Roger exasperated, rolling his eyes.    “Of course, it was!” Y/N exclaimed, sipping on her coffee.    “You were just being petty,” he pinched her cheek, and she swatted at his hand.    “Petty or not, I threw you out of the house and didn’t speak to you.”    Ben was watching the interaction, heart swelling at how the two acted. “Would you mind, if I ask- what happened?”    And the grin that appeared on Roger’s face was nothing else but shit-eating. “Yes, dear. Why don’t you tell Ben, why you decided to throw a fit and have me stay at Fred’s?”    Y/N shrugged. “He looked hotter as a chick than I did.”    Ben spluttered the tea he was drinking. “Wait, what?”    “When he came up with the idea for ‘I Want To Break Free’ I was all for it, ya know. Supporting my man and such. But when I saw him as Rogerina… wearing my blouse, which by the way was my only good work blouse and you smeared it with red lipstick, I threw a fit. How come, he gets to look like that and I don’t? I simply couldn’t allow it.”    “But-“ Ben couldn’t contain the laughter that bubbled past his lips. “Are you joking?”    Roger shook his head, pecking Y/N’s temple. “Not one bit. Came home that evening to find a bag packed and her sulking on the couch. Said to leave and come back when I figured my shit out and when she was once again my first priority.”    “Ever since that day, he’s forbidden to wear my clothes. Or women clothing in general,” Y/N smiled placing the finished coffee cup on the table.    Ben chuckled hearing that. “Well, I do hope that when we start filming the scene, where I have to be in Roger’s position, you don’t evict him again.”    “Who knows,” Y/N smirked. “It might bring back too many painful memories and he might just have to stay at Bri’s.”

Compass Left Behind
Ao3 - One Piece, Gen, Modern AU, Look for Warnings! (See Ao3), Focus on Straw Hats.
Word Count: 2,847
-
When Ace dies in a flurry of fast motions and undeniable death (gun fight – a gang fight, Akainu fire arson why were you born- oh god it burns) Luffy screams at the pain of being alone. His brothers are dead, Shanks spirited away into the wind, Garp, military (abusive) and untrustworthy, and Makino and Dadan’s gang, underserving of this mess.
Luffy is 14 when he becomes completely abandoned, and he is 14 when the thought whispers into his mind
Why? Why am I alone? It shouldn’t be this way - Never should be this way. Where are they?
And so he starts to search.
-
Monkey D. Luffy first whispered into their lives with the soft smile on Zoro’s sunlit face as he wandered home from school. This smile last for the week, a week of Koushirou’s adopted son seeming more complete and alive than he has ever before - and then he is gone, katanas packed away with sturdy clothes and tracking chip pulled out of his phone
Koushirou wonders about the boy who Zoro mentioned only once (I met someone today – his name is (and the way he said the name sounded like a king)) but accepts it. Zoro always had the spirit of a wanderer in him - but it never seemed to belong just to him.
He reports Zoro’s disappearance to the authorities but it gets buried. Somethings were not meant to be - somethings were meant to be lost to the world (Zoro had always been lost – always had an internal compass that only pointed at one person.)
Koushirou hopes the boy he raised (in place of a daughter who died) is happy now.
-
They meet Nami in the mall, her life safe at last and her family and their tangerine farm whole and unharmed. There is nothing stopping her from saying no when Luffy stretches out hand, to stay with her family who have no recognition of the name Arlong.
But she takes the hand anyway, the weight she never knew was there lifting off of her. She was supposed to be a navigator for a big company in the fall, with big rewards, perfect for a girl who had no interest of spending big bucks at college
But she drops it all and takes the hand offered.
And well -
That is that.
(They, piled into Luffy’s (Ace’s) old custom flame-detailed Camaro, make for an odd bunch with Luffy’s scars and Zoro’s swords and Nami’s maps and money bags (and three shriveled tangerine tree seeds kept in a golden locket) but they could not care less.)
-
Usopp joins them three states over and for once does not lie - he speaks truthfully about the pull he feels, like waves to the moon’s commands, like a compass to the north and laments that maybe he’ll meet his dad on the road - out in the big wide radiant west.
He brings along a ride and tall tales, a reminder that there’s joy in the smallest of things.
(Kaya, they learn, is a name not to be spoken for she died a year ago, officially due to an illness. Unofficially, Usopp tells them of a butler who had a history in poison and botany, and how his claws quickly sunk into the family riches once the orphan girl passed away suddenly.
This is not a tale of heroes or interference in carefully laid plans- this is a tale of people finding home and family.
And Kaya, while she had a place in Usopp’s heart, never had a place aboard the sunny, beloved ship (home) in their dreams of before.)
-
Sanji kicks them from his restaurant, freshly inherited from Zeff who died three months previous, four times until he finally caves and agrees to go with them.
The chefs and waiters are happy to see him go, even if his boyfriend, Gin, isn’t (he’ll miss him, can’t he see that?).
The restaurant was never the twenty-two-year old’s dream, only a prison made of a debt and a soured paternal love and the staff knew that.
They do not understand what makes these strangers so important to him, but they do not stop him from leaving, from kissing his mafia boyfriend one last passionate time, from signing restaurant over to his most trusted workers and hopping in the car with two teens and a young adult.
It was never their place to know what made him so weary of food being stolen.
(Besides. His cigarettes were clogging up the air.)
-
They never meet Vivi. They only ever hear of her in newspapers clippings, proclaiming that the last princess of Alabasta perished during an uprising in her kingdom.
(It’s not a world of heroes and happiness, in this life)
The story is sad in general, but they are even more so because more than it being a tragic tale, they never got to meet her again.
(But they knew she would never, ever stay, no matter how hard they begged. Her heart belonged to the desert sun and the sand beneath feet, and the people hailing her name. Some things are constant like that.)
-
Chopper, prodigy and fully-fledged doctor at the age of twenty-six, takes one look at them and quits his job at his adopted father’s old clinic.
No one comments on how though he is the eldest, everyone ruffles his hair like he is the youngest.
No one talks about the little cherry blossoms and antlers embroidered on his sweater, or the way he despisesmushrooms.
No one mentions the way he gapes at Zoro and Luffy, one with too little scars (though they are thankful for that) and one with far, far too many.
(He’ll pass creams to both of them, helping smooth it over Luffy’s back and arms and chest and face and just anywhere really (so many scars - skin didn’t scar this easily before) and letting Zoro do his own, spreading the cool substance over his chest and ankles and face (but never his back - would be a shame if he did), places that had always ached mysteriously previously, and always during storms like Luffy’s did now)
-
Robin comes into their lives silently, appearing in the back of the Merry (Usopp’s mothers old Volkswagen van that he inherited, that he and Kaya had painted with pictures of seas and sheep and dreaming words before ... everything) one day and never leaving after that.
There are no doubts that she belongs with them - not this time, and not ever again. She brings a multitude of books with her and helps finishes Zoro’s and Luffy’s spotty education, filling in gaps of knowledge with care and love.
She never speaks of genocide, never speaks of the circling brand on her left shoulder blade, and the haunted look in here eye but she doesn’t have to.
Like before, the past does not matter here, with them.
(Unlike before, the only thing that does matter is them - there are no dreams in this concrete world, only slowly filling in the ache of where were you and I was alone.)
-
The blue haired man who tried to steal their car is Franky, and this time only his arm and nose are metal - it doesn’t make him any less strong or big though. Once he sees the little keychain of a straw hatted jolly roger, custom made, hanging on the mirror, however, he stops, sitting there in the front seat, the wires already hotwired, and smiles. That’s where they find him, and after only the briefest of introductions (for they all know each other already, really, in some inescapable way) and goodbyes (the Franky family are still family but the world is crueler now then then, and bonds like that aren’t meant to stay (but bonds like theirs are)) they leave after a small pitstop.
Merry cannot hold him (cannot hold three more people, they need more) and so it is a near blessing in disguise when Merry is forced to be ripped away from them by a bad car accident - a cop careening down the road after a clown with a sword (an odd sight but not the oddest. They were all more worried about clinging together and making sure they were all alive). No fights happen between them (they do not know how they would take it if one of them walked away - they don’t know if they even can now that they’ve found each other).
Instead, they watch as Franky commandeers his brother’s company for one week, and creates a home on the road for them. Simple and deceiving on the outside yet extravagantly homey within, the extremely luxurious and custom RV is familiar enough with a small shielded garden on the top, a library within and couches and bunks soft and plush to rest their weary head.
Sunny, they decide to call the RV, now detailed on the side in bold, dreamful lettering with a painted lion face, for all the sunny days they will have together.
(They’re almost complete.)
-
Brook sees them in the crowd and steps off his stage, disappearing into the night. His fans are disappointed and the rest of the world confused - where had the man gone?
The man himself is gaunt, brittle and bone like, which is only accented by his skeletal make up, but he laughs and cracks jokes with them all, one more puzzle piece, one more weapon to defeat the battle that is loneliness.
His music soothes them to bed with the sweetest tunes, and the songs he releases to the public are more popular than ever - for they have something the old Brook used to have but thought he never would again.
The love of family.
(He does not speak of years spent by the coast, playing songs with other folk and whales, as they danced happily to the breeze. He does not speak of tsunamis and death and wondering why he above all others survived because he knows why - so the loneliness would end when he was with them.)
-
Jinbe is last and when they break him free from the prison on the coast, it is all they can do not to cry with relief. They are whole again, never mind the mafia and government after them thanks to Jinbe’s escape, they can breathe again.
When they collapse inside Sunny, far away from the lights that searched for them, bandages applied to broken boys (why did he have so many scars?) and smiles given, they do cry, and Jinbe envelopes them all with a hug until they fall backward into a giant, happy dog pile.
He is warm and big and steers them in the right direction, just as he always did. The last part of the puzzle is complete and now they can be free with each other instead of trapped alone.
(Jinbe is the first to know about the beginning, what happened to their captain in this life, (for he knew Ace as well) and he does not forgive himself for not being there like he was before. But he does pray to and thank every god he knows that Luffy was able to get up alone - and find them all.
It’s a miracle, really. (It’s what he was known for))
-
Together they travel, making money in dubious ways (street performance and thievery among them – stealth is a skill that Luffy has somehow acquired now but they do not like to think about how) and having as much adventure and life as they can before their time inevitably runs out.
They travel and learn about each other what makes them different from before (they learn what before was.)
They learn of new ages (Luffy 14, Zoro 16, Nami 18, Usopp 20, Sanji 22, (Vivi would be 24) Chopper 26, Robin, like before 28, Franky 30, Brook 32, and Jinbe, 34 - two years apart for the two years they spent apart. They wished their youngest weren’t so young,) new habits (video game design was what Usopp was going to go to college for, once he had saved enough) and the things that stayed the same (Nami can still haggle prices down to a quarter of the original price, and Zoro still uses three katanas.)
It’s a good life, a happy life. They found each other again - how could it not be?
-
Of course - not everything’s perfect. It comes back to them in the little moments
It’s In the way Zoro will sit himself beside the door on rainy days, ready to catch anyone who slips; in the way Nami hoards money like she’ll die without it and what she’ll be willing to sacrifice for it (herself and others but never her family), in the way that Usopp, though understanding, will lurch whenever someone seems just a tad too sad and frantically tell a tale as if everyone’s life depended on it, and the way he’s wary of every trusting, loyal servant they come across.
It’s in the way Sanji won’t eat if someone else wont (all too common, none of them are okay with food sometimes, even Luffy, who will sometimes stop eating randomly, or Zoro, who occasionally forgets he can keep eating) or in the way Chopper will quadruple check every medical thing he does when not in an emergency.
It’s in the way Robins mind goes blank at certain books and the way her fingers tremble even when doing something she loves; in the way Franky will ghost his hand over his nose and arm and belly and scars and remember the day everything was lost; in the way that Brook can’t stand foggy nights that become like his mind occasionally, clouded and alone.
And especially it’s in the way the Luffy, Luffy who used to never be afraid (because rubber couldn’t hurt, at least not easily), will flinch and snag fingers in Zoro’s or Jinbe’s clothing, arms taut and eyes wide, trembling and so abruptly quiet and push whatever food on his plate away whenever voices raise or fists fly in the kitchen (only ever the kitchen), and will shriek and go silent, crouched in a ball if its directed at him - (The kitchen area is a no fight zone now, if they have to do it they do it beyond the divider and in the other areas while the rest distract Luffy.) It’s in the way Luffy has far too many scars (from punches and kicks and being thrown off balconies and cliffs from supposedly loving hands, from fights in back alleys and scrambling to survive – he’s only 14 and before it wouldn’t faze them but this world is so much more real in the way the other wasn’t) and in the way one used to be able to count each individual rib on his side.
No.
It’s the little moments that hurt the worse.
-
But there are also happy moments, happiness found in places one wouldn’t think to look.
Like being chased by cars flashing red and blue lights, in a flame detailed beat up Camaro, like seeing how high cola rockets could blast, like finally hearing the end to Robin’s memorized bed time story that spoke of pirates of old and new, and sunny days always looking toward the horizon.
Like being there to see Zoro and Luffy, always on the same page, experience something for the first time, like the high school dance they snuck into or the stars on the unlit coast (well that was a first for most actually). Like seeing Brook’s guitar strum a special song just for each of them, or having Chopper give special band aids for each of them (Luffy’s had pirates, Zoro’s tigers, Nami’s tangerines, Usopp’s birds, Sanji’s hearts and Franky’s gears. Robin and Brook were more careful so everyone was still vying to see what design they would get)
It was the joys that built them up again
-
And it was the experiences that reminded them of who they were
Because no matter the world, no matter the life now or the life before, Luffy would always have the soul of a conqueror, of a king- and the rest of them would always be his most loyal crew.
These experiences included back alley fights and dealings and tussles with gangs, included hunting down Ace’s killer and killing him in return (because none of them are perfect, even now) in breaking out of prison as a family (whoever thought of imprisoning them all together made a mistake) to shielding Luffy from his grandfather when the mere mention let alone actually meeting with the man made him tremble and near cry.
It was falling from the mountain Skypeia, miraculously making it out alive and visiting Fishman Island off the coast of the southern continent. It was visiting Venice and Antarctica and the pyramids and breaking into historical places (but being respectful because robin loved history) and everything amazing in-between.
And it was being together that made it all worth it - because in this life they didn’t have dreams to reach for, to strive for, to devout their lives towards. They just had each other.
And that was enough

and i want you (kameron/aquaria/blair) - chapter 2 - sheep
an: aah thank u guys so so much for the positive comments so far!! i tried rly hard to make this chapter fluffy but it’s not my strong suit so i hope i did okay ^^
Blair doesn’t know why she tortures herself with cold coffee in the wintertime. Maybe she’s a caffeine addict, maybe she’s a masochist, but she’s grateful regardless when her favorite barista lays a whipped cream loaded iced cappuccino next to her mountain of homework.
“Thank you, Kal,” she calls after the girl, shuffling her papers so she doesn’t spill anything on them. She’s already handed in one coffee stained history essay, she doesn’t need any more.
Next to the messily written, barely finished essay lies a literal stack of chemistry work. Beside it, a math review booklet. She’s half hidden behind all the respective notebooks and binders, tucked in the corner of the small cafe, fingernails a translucent blue with chill. Her natural habitat: camouflaged, studying. She gulps down two thirds of the coffee without really looking, shivers, and continues to write.
The days have only gotten colder, midterms are slowly getting closer, and Blair’s workload hasn’t gotten any lighter. She thanks whatever entity is watching over her that she only has three exams this year. Between gruelling evening fast-food shifts, and struggling to keep her grades afloat, Blair is exhausted. Each day is a blur and fog of homework and “How may I help you this evening?” Lonely is the only emotion she’s been able to register for a long time now, and it’s starting to feel like she’s hollowed out. Just a thin, hollow thing that could snap with the slightest touch.
Homework doesn’t seem to matter anymore. She’s bleary, lethargic, and the warmth of the cafe is finally starting to seep into her small, cold frame. She pushes her coffee away, and sighs, leaning back against the wall. She rests her head in her hand, and suddenly keeping her eyes open feels like the most arduous task she’s ever been give. She blinks once, twice, and her eyelids slowly begin to flutter.
A cup suddenly appears in front of her, and Blair startles back to awareness, peering through her wall of textbooks to see who laid it there. She blinks the remaining sleepiness from her eyes, and they go wide when she sees Kameron standing there. Her wet hair is pulled back into a ponytail, and the logo on her duffle bag tells Blair she’s just come from the sports centre a few minutes down the road. She’s got that same worried look in her eyes, but her smile is soft and gentle.
“Hey,” she murmurs, deep voice sending a different kind of shiver through Blair’s spine. “You alright?”
For a moment, Blair thinks that she could tell the truth, but the thought only lasts a second, and when she opens her mouth it’s the same two words. “I’m fine,” she breathes. “Just tired.”
Kameron nods slowly, and Blair hears the ghost of a “Yeah,” slip from her lips before they both look away.
She takes a breath, and tries. “How are y-you?” Her own voice sounds unfamiliar.
Kameron smiles as if she were excited about the question and Blair’s heart swells. “I’m good, I just finished working out.” Blair tries not to let her imagination stray, but her plan of focusing on Kameron’s hushed, even voice doesn’t end up helping. “Your name’s Blair, right? I, uhm, I bought you a hot chocolate.”
“Oh,” Blair squeaks, and she flinches upwards when Kameron pushes the drink forward so it touches her fingers. It’s warm, and Blair grabs it with both hands before she can stop herself. “Thank you.” She blinks up at Kameron, a small smile dancing on her lips
“Yeah, no problem,” Kameron hums, her voice the sweetest candy Blair has ever heard. “It’ll warm you up on your way home.” Their eyes meet again. Kameron steps just a little closer, and leans down. “You should probably go get some rest.”
Blair wants to melt under her gaze, and she finds herself nodding despite the pile of work beneath her. With languid movements, she gathers her papers and books and slides them all into her bag neatly. When she’s finished, she rises on her still shaky legs, and slings the heavy bag over one shoulder, rubbing one of her eyes with her free hand.
Kameron’s phone buzzes, and Blair startles awake again, turning towards her. “My name is Kameron, by the way, and Aquaria says hi,” the girl introduces herself as if Blair didn’t already know who she was. She blushes at the realization that Kameron had texted Aquaria something about her.
“H-Hello,” she stammers, trying not to let her excitement show. Kameron chuckles, a gruff but lovely sound, and Blair’s blush deepens. “Sorry,” she says instinctively, “I mean- I- Tell her I said hello…”
Oh, how Blair longs to hide her face in her sleeves and bolt.
Kameron touches her shoulder, featherlight, and takes a step towards the door. “C’mon,” she smiles, “I can walk you home, If you want.”
And so they walk together through the cold and fog, Blair’s gloveless hands kept warm by the still steaming hot chocolate. They settle into calm, sporadic conversation, and Blair is comforted by the company, becoming more and more at ease as their stroll continues. She hasn’t spoken to anyone, really spoken to anyone, in ages. Some of the invisible ten-ton weight on her shoulders lifts. Eventually, they come upon Blair’s apartment, and she whispers her grateful goodbye under the blurry yellow street lights.
“Th-Th-Thanks again for the hot chocolate,” her teeth chatter above her stuttering, but when Kameron touches her shoulder again heat blooms through her chest.
“It’s okay,” Kameron’s freckles look so beautiful with snow in her hair, and Blair can’t help but drink in the sight, even if just for a moment. “I’ll see you tomorrow, yeah?”
Something bright bubbles in Blair’s chest, and this time she does nothing to hide it. “Y-Yeah,” she sighs happily, basking in the unexpected warmth of the snow and glow. “Safe trip back.”
She turns away slowly, not wanting this absolute dream to end, but slowly shuffles up to her apartment nonetheless. She slips inside, places her hot chocolate on the kitchen counter, and buries her face in her hands.
She’s fucking giddy.
“Okay,” she breathes, attempting to calm herself down, but her phone sounds off and when she sees the notification her heart leaps into her throat. “I can help you w/ your hw tomorrow,” it reads, and Blair doesn’t know whether to feel grateful, or guilty that she still hasn’t sent anything past a greeting to Aquaria.
Her fingers fumble to type out a reply, and the only thought on her mind is “please.”
In the morning, Blair drifts through the hallways and waits for third period study hall, leg bouncing with anxiety under her desk. When the bell finally rings, she ducks through the taller students and dashes to her classroom. Her chest is tight, but it’s not unpleasant, and she tries to tell herself that she’s just excited to finish some chemistry work.
She’s the first in the room, as usual, and she all but falls into her usual seat in the back corner. Her inhales are shaky, and her eyes flicker towards the door every time some students trickle in. She’s in the middle of trying to take a deep breath when she spots them, and the giddiness begins anew.
Kameron’s face lights up and Aquaria practically skips towards her. They’re holding hands, and Blair gives them a small wave.
“Bonjour,” Aquaria greets, and god, Blair could implode. She twirls that purple pen in her slim fingers and takes the seat in front of Blair, while Kameron sits beside her.
“Did you sleep well?” Kameron asks, and Blair thinks she might be a little too mesmerized by it.
“Yeah,” she answers, raising her eyebrows. For the first time in a while, it’s not a lie. After climbing into bed, sated from hot cocoa and warm feelings, she slept like an absolute log.
Aquaria drums her fingers on Blair’s desk, her eyes gleaming not unlike a cat’s. “Good,” she says, “let’s get started on that chemistry. I want to do something easy today.”
Blair blinks and Kameron groans, “Babe,” from beside her. Aquaria gives Kameron a puzzled look, and Blair just pulls out her stack of papers, stifling a grin.
Aquaria is terrible at explaining things, it turns out. She stumbles and mumbles, and always ends up just writing out the steps of the problems on Blair’s scrap paper; breezing through them. Occasionally, her tongue pokes out from between her lips as she concentrates, and Blair catches Kameron staring fondly as she struggles not to do the same.
After she’s worked through a decent few sheets, Blair pauses to stretch, and Aquaria whips out her phone. Blair isn’t at all surprised when she immediately opens instagram. It’s kind of cute, actually. She tries not to peek too much at the colorful makeup and fashion posts that scroll by.
Kameron puts her phone down, and when Blair glances over the girl gives her a shy smile. “Hey, what are you doing for lunch?” she tilts her head to the side and some stray red hair falls over her face. Aquaria looks over to them with those curious cat eyes of hers, and Blair shrinks with the attention.
“I’m not doing anything,” she shrugs, hoping she doesn’t sound as pathetic as she feels. The two share a look, some sort of secret conversation, and then Aquaria speaks.
“I’ll tell the girls we have other business to attend to.” She jumps back to her phone, and Kameron laughs aloud. “What?”
Her smile when she answers is art across her face and Blair continues to watch the exchange, enraptured. “Why are you such a savage, sweets?”
Aquaria gasps, seemingly very offended by the accusation. “I’m not being savage, it’s the truth.” She crosses her arms, and honest to god pouts when Kameron continues to laugh, even whining when Blair gives in and starts to chuckle to. Words don’t seem to be Aquaria’s strong suit, but it’s endearing in an odd way. “You’re so mean to me,” complains Aquaria, huffing in frustration and blowing strands of her silky black hair around in process.
Kameron stands then, stepping over to smooth out her girlfriend’s hair. Blair feels like she’s intruding on an intimate moment, something small but entirely theirs, until someone singsongs a little ways away. “Ooh, look at the lovebirds,” the girl laughs, and Aquaria sticks her tongue out at her.
“Shut up, Vanessa, let me be gay in peace.”
“But you’re gonna kill poor blondie over there, she looks like a fucken’ tomato,” Vanessa exclaims, and Blair’s face explodes further into a blush than it already apparently is. Her shoulders spike as Aquaria and Kameron both turn to her. Aquaria meets her eyes for a second, and stares like she’s set eyes on a delicious canary, before glancing away and giving the look to Kameron instead.
“Chemistry time, then, Blair.” Aquaria spins the purple pen in her hand again, while Kameron and Blair both avoid eye contact, flustered.
Blair tries to ignore Vanessa when she laughs again, and heaves a sigh of relief when the lunch bell rings.

A/N: I’m sorry for being the worst poster in the history of posting! My schedule is becoming a lot harder to follow and as such, my writing has been limited to what it is now. BUT!! I won’t give up now and will continue trying my hardest, if not even more, for you guys!
Jun X Reader
Summary: Jun is known to be the outcast of your school, being shunned by those he tries to talk to and ridiculed behind his back. After being paired with him for a project, you try to break down those walls with good intentions but what is reciprocated is exactly the opposite.
Warnings: Bullying, Cursing, Kidnapping
Word Count: 5482
It’s one of the worst things that can happen to you. You get out of your seat, bag hanging on your shoulder as you slowly make your way halfway across the classroom. Sitting in the empty seat, you feel the weight of the chair creak under you as you meet the eyes of your partners. You just had to have been assigned a group project for this class with two guys you’ve never even talked to before.
You swallow the lump in your throat and introduce yourself. “Hi, I’m Y/N.”
The man across from you, the one that’s leaning back in his seat with his legs stretched out gives you a nod, fingers playing with his rings. “Hey, I’m Lucas.”
Then there’s the other one, the one hunched over with his hood itching to be thrown over his head. “My name is Jun,” he says softly.
You catch Lucas rolling his eyes at him as he taps his fingers on his closed notebook. There’s an odd air strangling the three of you, one that is far different than all the other groups in the classroom. You clear your throat, hoping it would be enough to clear some of it out and get on with what you’re supposed to do.
“So what do you want to do the project on?”
Lucas shrugs. “The color and behavior one looks easy.”
You look over to Jun who absentmindedly nods along. He presses his hands further onto his lap and nods more vigorously as you continue to stare. Guess that’s a yes. “Okay, I’ll call over the professor then.”
You wave your hand to get your professor’s attention and after he marks off a few other prompts (luckily not the one you’ve picked), he walks over to you.
“We’d like to pick the color and behavior one,” you say.
He nods at you, commenting that it’s a good choice, and goes back to the board and marks it off along with the other ones. Now time to get back to the other two…
“So,” you start, “any ideas for what to do?”
Another shrug from Lucas. “Questionnaire is pretty simple and easier to work with. We would get better results too since just about anyone can fill them out, especially if they’re short.”
“Okay, what do you think Jun?”
The timid man opens and closes his mouth, eyes staggering between the floor and yours.
Lucas scoffs. “Don’t bother asking him. He’ll say something weird anyway.”
Your eyes grow wide with Lucas’s remark. It hurt your heart hearing someone being spoken to so rudely, yet you can’t just say anything because you don’t want to cause trouble given you’re still in class.
“We’re still a group and we should have all voices heard if we’re all putting in the effort.” You battle over dominance with Lucas with just a look, his brows dipping seriously low and eyes staring daggers into your own. Right when you’re about to step down, he rolls his eyes, hand slamming against his desk as he concedes, aggravated.
“Fine! Let the freak have a say. But just for the record, I’m having nothing to do with him.” A disgusted finger points haphazardly at the quiet man as if he wasn’t less than two feet away from him. “Talk to him all you want but leave me out of it.”
On cue, the professor calls for some last-minute comments before dismissing you. Lucas is out the door before you can get a way to stay in contact with him, although it might be better to leave any contact to stay within class. You huff suddenly, irritation consuming you like a wildfire. And this is why you hate group projects. At the corner of your eye, Jun stands from his seat and walks to the door so you rush after him. Calling for him, he stops hesitantly, carefully turning to face you.
“I forgot to ask but is there any way I can reach you after class? Phone number or email?”
He nods gently, eyes reminding you of a kitten, frightened yet curious. “I can give you my number?”
You smile at him, taking out your phone and waiting for him to finish saying all the digits. When he’s done, eyes searching your face for any sign of a trick, you broaden your smile and hold out a hand. He only stares at it and the longer your hand is stretched out to him, the more awkward you feel. Then, he reaches out, slowly. His fingers curl around yours lightly and it’s as if you’re shaking a cloud.
“I hope we can make the best out of this project Jun. I’ll see you in two days!”
With that, you turn back around, the hunger pinging your stomach more insistent but before you can let your hunger take over, you open up a new text message with Jun’s number inside and send him a text.
….
“No.”
“Come on Lucas! We can talk more about the project and get something to eat. Two in one.”
Lucas shakes his head at you again, eyes glancing behind you to the still timid Jun. “Not if he’s there.”
You groan, the burning desire to just drag him by the hair on his head to the nearest sandwich shop almost taking over any other thoughts you have.
“Y/N, it’s okay. I can just not go.”
Jun’s words cut into you imagining how heavy Lucas would be as he kicks around for you to let him go. With a sigh, you turn around and face Jun. Over the last two days, you’ve been texting him with the project being your excuse to get to know him better. Honestly, you have no idea why Lucas is so dead against Jun in every way, shape, and form. Jun is one of the sweetest people you’ve met and it was only this morning before your shared psychology class that you found out he has a quirky side to him. Seeing him huddled up in his seat however just causes your stomach to flatten and sadness wash over you. There’s no way you’ll allow anyone to hurt him.
“Just because Lucas doesn’t like you doesn’t mean he get to dictate whether you come or not. Besides, we are doing a group project so everyone needs to be there.”
The deep frown on Lucas’s face causes you to shrink some. Why does he hate Jun so much? “I’m not changing my mind Y/N. Either he goes or I do.”
You clench your fists tightly, the urge to chew Lucas out stronger than ever but a light touch on your shoulder unwinds you.
“I’ll leave now. Text me the details.”
Not even you calling out to him has him stop walking away, the warm spot on your shoulder fading into a chilling cold. Huffing in annoyance at Lucas’s victory, you motion for him to follow you. He does so without a word, the both of you heading over to one of your favorite spots but with the sour taste left from the conversation, you’re sure that it might fall from your list.
The doors chime to alert the owners of your arrival and like usual, there are only a handful of customers around. You wave to one of the owners and set your things down at a table in the corner, your table. Lucas follows suit and takes out his laptop with the document for your project already open.
Without pause, he begins talking about the questionnaire you agreed upon. “Since our project is based on colors, I don’t think it would be enough to simply ask what colors make them feel so what about bringing out some visuals?”
Biting your lip, you try and force yourself to let it go but it’s too much. If there’s anything you’ve learned from your psychology class it’s that some things are deeper than they seem. “Why do you hate Jun?”
There’s a flash of exasperation from Lucas before he rubs his eyes, thumb toying with the ring on his pointer finger. “Do you really want to talk about that freak now?”
You nod your head, lowering the screen of your laptop to show your determination to have your question answered.
He groans but drops his hand, defeated. “Fine, fine.” He gives you an incredulous look, as if wondering why you didn’t know sooner. “My friend had class with him last year and he would always tell me that he would creep out the rest of the class by acting strangely and mumbling to himself. Not to mention that he would scare the girls in the class by staring at them and walking up to them after class. The guy’s a freak Y/N and I seriously don’t know how you’re not seeing this.”
You scoff at Lucas, earning you a glare but you keep him from saying any more. “That’s about the worst excuse to hate someone that I’ve heard. Have you ever even tried talking to him? I understand where you’re coming from but you’re not convincing me at all to hate him as much as you do. It’s awful for you to hate someone you don’t even know Lucas.”
“You’re not understand at all, Y/N,” he sighs. “It’s not only me. Just about everyone I know doesn’t like him. Fuck, about half the school feels the same as me and that’s what makes me explaining it to you as crappy as it can be. You might just be the only person I’ve met to want to defend him.”
“And I will continue to be.”
To your surprise, he doesn’t say anything else, only types on his keyboard, a final warning glare aimed at you before turning to the screen.
….
Over the weekend, you text Jun and Lucas, the lack of physical contact coming in handy to actually get your questionnaire ready to be handed out. You’d be lying if you said you didn’t like texting Jun more than Lucas. To the latter, this was task to finish and nothing else. It might be that Jun doesn’t have anyone else to talk to, but he stretches out your conversations and brings a smile to your face whenever you open up your chats. There is also what Lucas said that day after your class about Jun. Now that you think about it, you’ve never seen him around campus or have heard any of your friends talk about the man with a shy smile and large brown eyes. It’s a shock really given how good looking he is, something you realize as you sit beside him in class.
The time had come for you to all meet in class and with the events that took place prior, well, you’re not the most excited person for this group discussion. You can feel your hands heat up as Lucas takes a spot across from Jun and you. Jun fidgets in his seat, you eyeing him carefully as he adjusts to the glare coming his way.
“Let’s get this over with,” Lucas grunts. “We finish the questionnaires and I’ll print them out for tomorrow.”
You nod, continuing with what he left behind. “Then we’ll meet at the cafeteria and hand them out with colored cue cards.”
“Alright, it’s all set-”
“Do you need extra cue cards Jun?” you interrupt. “I can make some more if you like?”
He shakes his head slowly, eyes trained to his desk. “No thank you.”
There’s a pause between the three of you, one filled with intensity as Lucas stares at you both. You stare back, challenging him to say something, anything. Like hell you’re going to sit there and take it, and he knows it. He folds, leaning back in his chair with a groan and slapping his pencil down on his desk.
“I see how it is,” he mutters. “Then we’ll see each other tomorrow?”
“Yeah. At three like we agreed on.”
“Great.” Lucas picks up his things and without a second glance, moves back to another seat, one farther away from the two of you. You sigh through your nose when he’s gone, crossing your arms at his stubbornness for refusing to even try getting to know Jun. He made it very clear that day at the sandwich shop but it didn’t stop you from sending him one last text, one final effort. That ended badly however, with you forcing your hands still so they wouldn’t pull at out your own hair with how frustrating he was being. On the bright side, you still had Jun to talk to that weekend and here he is now. As timid as he can be, he’s not the one that’s aggravating you to no end.
“You didn’t have to do that,” he whispers, head knocked down and hands clenched together at the top of his desk.
Swiveling in your seat to get a proper look at him, you let your words of support flow. “Yes I did. He’s been ignoring you completely since we started and even called you names. I thought we grew out of this childish behavior but he’s seriously making me rethink that.”
There’s the slightest turn of his head, pleading eyes searching for any sign of regret on you. “You do realize he’s not the only one. There… there are many more people like him.”
You nod somberly. Oh boy did you know that. “Yes, but I can’t stand by and let them say whatever they want behind your back without even knowing you.”
A small blush spreads on Jun’s face, one that causes your own to heat up. “Why are you being so nice to me?”
Now it was your turn to get shy. Why are you being so nice to him? “Because you’re actually a really nice guy who doesn’t deserve to be treated like this. I would understand if you were actually a jerk but you’re not. So until people start realizing that, I’ll be there to protect you.”
The blush is covering almost his entire face by that point and a cute smile accompanies it. “Then you’re like my knight in shining armor?”
You crack a smile too, chuckling at his metaphor. He isn’t wrong about that. “Yeah, I guess I am.”
….
This is the second time you’ve seen Jun smile so brightly. The first was yesterday when you had appointed yourself his protector and the second is here, him out in public with copies of the questionnaire being held happily in his hands at the center of the campus’s main plaza. If anything, he looks like an excited toddler trying his best to stay in one spot a few benches down from you. You giggle watching him, your own copies hanging loosely in your hands.
“Mind handing some out instead of just standing there?”
Lucas’s voice pierces your thoughts and you stick your tongue out at him. “I’m getting to it!”
You shrug off the roll of his eyes and look around the cafeteria for any victims. You’ll be sure to focus on Jun later after you invite him to the sandwich shop. Hopefully he’ll being the sweetness and relaxation that Lucas took from it. Speaking of, there he is actually talking with someone about the questionnaire, cue cards being held up as he asks them the questions you were told to rehearse. And, he’s smiling too. You’re a bit awstrick seeing that he’s human enough to smile but not for long since he catches you staring, narrowing his eyes at you, threatening to do your part.
Searching the cafeteria, you lock eyes with your first victim, a young man that smiles at your awkwardly and when you take a step towards him, he relents and comes to you.
“Hi, would you mind filling out this questionnaire for our project?”
You hand him the paper and a pen and prepare your cue cards. “Okay, so under the first number, write down your first thought when I hold up this card.”
The planned speech goes perfectly with the questionnaire being filled out quickly. You thank the guy for his time and look back to Jun to see how he’s doing. Your face falls seeing that he’s in the same spot, no person within a five foot radius of him. The worst part of it is his toddler-like expression has morphed into that of a sat kitten. It claws at your heart and you walk over to him, a firm hand on his back as you gather his attention.
“Not doing so good here?”
He shakes his head, his bangs swishing back and forth.
“It’s okay Jun. All you have to do is keep smiling and make eye contact with people.” You rub circles into his back, wavering some as you feel the muscles beneath his sweater. “They’ll come to you and you give the speech we rehearsed.” His eyes twinkle innocently as they peek at you. “You’ve been doing great so far so don’t sweat about it.”
That smile reappears on his face, rendering you speechless. “Thank you, Y/N.”
You mumble out a response but you’re not sure if what you say is even a word at all. Going back to your spot, you have to force your gaze off of Jun so you can get back to handing out slips of the questionnaire. It takes a few minutes, but you manage to tie down a girl and her friend into filling one out. As you hold out the second cue card to them, a loud gasp gathers your attention. Tilting your head back, you let out a gasp of your own.
Jun is cowering back while a girl holds a crumpled up paper in their raised fist. You blink and the paper is thrown at Jun, your breath caught in your throat as all light leaves his eyes. There is no hesitation from you, rushing to his side and grabbing his shoulders to have him look at you. When his eyes meet yours, you practically melt onto the floor. He’s hurt beyond belief and in turn, you want to send whoever it is that has put him down this way to the deepest part of hell. Fury burning at the pit of your stomach, you march up to the girl who is about to take her leave, shouting at her to apologize.
The girl scoffs at you, adjusting her bag on her shoulder. “He tried to touch me! Why should I apologize to him?”
You gape at her, fingers twitching to slap her face but you contain yourself.  “We’re trying to do our project. He was only handing out a questionnaire.”
The girl gives a mock laugh, her body now facing you. “So I tell you that this freak tries to touch me and you take his side? Wow. I had no idea that fucker had fans since everyone with a brain knows not to get near him.”
Your hands tremble, unable to contain your anger. “Jun has a name, and as his friend-”
“Friend? You’re going to stoop as low as to be his friend?”
Suddenly, the anger subsides as clarity clouds your mind, your stomach settling. Standing as straight as you can, you glower at her, voice clear and body relaxed. “Yes, I am. Now get the fuck out of my sight.”
She swallows, clutching the strap of her bag tightly as she backs away. It’s only as she leaves your sight that you notice the crowd around you. Their hushed whispers and chilling stares shake you but it surprises you how easy it is to ignore them. Why should it bother you anyway? You stood up for your friend and now they’re starting to talk because of what you did. If anything, it makes you feel prideful that they’re finally taking notice. Jun is then in front of you, eyes boring into you with worry.
“You shouldn’t have done that. Now you’ll get treated like me.”
Offering him a smile, you shrug. “It was nothing Jun. Remember, I’m your knight in shining armor? I’ll be there for you no matter what.”
The crowd begins to dissipate, returning to whatever it was that they were doing. Lucas is among them, shaking his head at you as he wanders off farther than you agreed upon, but he’s the least of your concerns at the moment.
“I’m going to have to pay you back after this project is over,” Jun states, his smile warming you to your core. It actually doesn’t sound too bad. The both of you could spend more time together without the project looming over your heads like a dark cloud. And quite possibly, you could turn this friendship into something more.
….
You project sits deftly in your hands. For some odd reason, Lucas didn’t mention what happened last week. In fact, he hardly spoke to you after that, relying on texts to do the majority of the communication, and even then, it was only about the project. It’s a straight up miracle you all finished the project without a hitch. Of course you had to ask students to fill out questionnaires the next day in a different part of campus but other than that, things continued to stay according to plan. After that, analyzing the data and writing the report was easier said than done considering it required less communication, only the few stray questions here and there as you wrote the report with Jun. In the end, your hard work paid off. Or at least you hope it did.
Handing in your project, you breathe a sigh of relief at having the weight officially off your shoulders. You still have homework for other classes but nothing as troubling as that was, especially with this one being a group project and not something you had to do on your own. A sad smile tugs on your lips, recounting the times you had to ask your friends for help with your old assignments. None of them lent a hand this time save for the questionnaires but after that, they mysteriously started talking to you less. You can’t help but think of the incident at the plaza being the reason why. They probably heard about it from other students since you kept that to yourself knowing that could possibly happen. And it did.
Your phone blinks back at you, empty. The texts you had sent them before you class asking them to join you to celebrate finishing your big project still left on read. You snap your phone back into your pocket to hear the rest of what your professor has to say about the next class. Something about how he can’t wait to read the reports and that you all did an excellent job so far this semester. You don’t pay him much attention, not with Jun sitting next to you. Yesterday, he had texted you to ask if you wanted to join him to grab some pastries at a cafe nearby. The notification alone sent had you giggling like a schoolgirl and sighing dreamily in your room. Sending him back a text that didn’t give you away was one of the hardest things you had to do all week, the project included. Not only is Jun nice, but handsome and smart as well, the work from the report showing it greatly.
You suck in a breath as he ruffles his hair tiredly. He texted you that he had been up the past few nights catching up on his assignments for other classes, the use of his emojis swelling your heart and containing your squeals every time he sent one.
“Are you ready?” he asks you once class is over.
You nod eagerly. The cafe he told you about is a few minutes walk away from campus in a more calm part of town based on what you saw online. The sweets aren’t as expensive as you thought they would be which only adds to your excitement. It’ll be like a date, you sing in your head.
Jun offers to lead the way, smiling shyly at you since he never thought you would agree. Immediately, you retort with the knight metaphor you had been using since last week. You cringe knowing that it’s not exactly the best thing to say when you want to ask him out, hold his hand, maybe even-
No, no Y/N. You have to ask him out first before having impure thoughts. You bite your lips as you try to contain your feelings, the cafe being as far as it can be. But even then, how are you supposed to ask him? With crumbs sticking around the corners of your mouth and sweat dripping the sides of your face as you wait for his answer? You should just stick to enjoying the sweets for now.
The cafe comes into view, Jun’s smile widening even more. His hand swings leisurely back and forth and all you can think of is wanting to hold it and feel his skin against yours, but you shake your head. Remember, pure thoughts. Pure thoughts.
Jun carries the conversation you were having, talking about how happy he is that he can now focus on the rest of his classes with the project out of the way. You nod, simply enjoying him talk to you more freely than ever. The more you realize how open he’s become with you, the more you catch yourself falling for him. Just last week he would never have talked for more than thirty seconds straight, hiding his face from both you and Lucas. Even his clothing has changed, the sweats and sweater being swapped for a jean jacket and fitting pants.
“I hope you don’t mind.”
You blink at his words, your train of thought skidding to a stop at the wrong station. “I’m sorry, what? I wasn’t listening.”
He laughs softly, your insides tangling at his cute laughter. “I was saying I hope you don’t mind us being the only people there. There’s not a lot of  people around this time.”
Now that he says that, the lack of cars on the one way street are all but nonexistent save for the handful that are parked along the sidewalk. The only people on the street are you and him and the thought of you two being the only ones in the cafe to share a slice of cake has you burning up. The cafe being a few paces down the street only has your cheeks redden even more and you have to look away and hide your face from Jun to prevent him from seeing it.
Closing in on the cafe, you don’t realize Jun had stopped walking until he grabs your hand. You look up at him, the blush on you’re sporting evident and becoming mush brightly. Jun is blushing as well, the light pink on his cheeks causing goosebumps to rise along your arms.
“Can I talk to you really quickly?”
The only thing you can muster is a nod, but it’s enough of an answer for Jun. He tugs on your hand and you let him pull you into the alley up ahead. Secluded, your heart beats as if you’re running a thousand miles a minute. Could he possibly?
He clears his throat and scratches the back of his neck awkwardly. “I want to thank you for all that you’ve done for me,” he chuckles at the next words, “for being my knight in shining armor. Like I promised, I want to repay you.”
“How are you going to do that?” The words escape you but you are too invested in what Jun has to say to care.
“Funny you should ask.” He reaches into the inside of his jacket, pulling out a cloth. You stare at it, confusion taking over your thoughts until the strong chemical smell pillages through your nostrils. “Now take deep breaths.”
Fear. That’s all you can feel at this point. Harshly turning away from Jun, you forget that he’s still holding your hand. You scream when he doesn’t let go of you, doing your best to wrench your hand out of his, but his grip is strong and the smile on his face drains you of the happiness you were feeling just moments ago.
“Stop! Jun, let me go!” You claw at his arm with your free hand but even with hints of blood being drawn, he gives no sign of the slightest discomfort.
You yank your hand but he draws you to his chest with a jerk, the god awful smell hitting you before the cloth covers your nose and mouth. It’s horribly strong and cold but you don’t give in, pushing at Jun’s chest and kicking his shin. Yet, he continues smiling at you as your body begins to sag, the smell and feel of the cloth disappearing to nothing. Your body crumbles, your eyes fluttering and Jun’s voice coaxing you to sleep.
….
It’s difficult to open your heavy eyes. Your lips are chapped but your body is hot, sweltering even. Everything around you is bright and you recoil as your sight adjusts. There’s nothing but a bed to your left, stacked high with frilly blankets and coverings, a handful of stuffed animals large and small adorning it, and a blaringly white table set in front of you with a shiny set of plates, bowls, and utensils. As you try and stretch your hand, you’re baffled at being unable to raise it two inches up. Your head lulls to the side to see what the issue is, but a bite of cold metal has you pause.
On your wrist is a polished handcuff, a single baby blue ribbon tied to it, the other cuff attached the arm of the chair you’re sitting on. Panic sweeps through your system as you look over to your other hand, an identical handcuff with another ribbon, a green one, welcoming you back from your slumber. Your heart is hammering, breath erratic, and hands yanking against the restraints.
“Help! Someone, help me!” Your voice is coarse, the effect of having not been using it for hours, but you need to get out, to have someone set you free. “Help! Anyone!” Tears prick your eyes as you’re met with silence, your cries being swallowed by the burning in your throat. “Please… help me.”
Your head falls limp, droplets raining down your face until all you can feel is the aching of your heart and cold that sticks to your wet cheeks. Suddenly, your hear a creak. Through your blurry vision, you watch as the wooden door to your right opens, a tall figure walking in slowly, one that you would recognize anywhere.
“I’m sorry for lying to you,” is all he says as he stands beside you. He stretches out a hand to you and on instinct, you turn away, limited by your restraints. He pets your head, a sigh leaving him as he drags a slim finger down to your chin. “You never have to worry about anyone hurting you now. I’ll protect you Y/N, just like how you protected me, I’ll be your knight and keep you safe. I’ll pamper you since you’ve been so nice to me.” The happiness in his voice is unsettling, your body trembling as he grabs your chin and forces you to look at him. “Anything you want, I’ll do.”
Your lip quivers, your next words coming out raspy and broken from your crying and he threat of tears that follow. “P-Please Jun. Let m-me go.”
His eyes, ones you thought were innocent and warm are cold and unrelenting. He drops his hand to his side and leans back to stare down at you. Then, he moves behind you, a hand brushing along your shoulder as he picks up a pink dress off the bed. You couldn’t even see it because of the frills matching that of the bed.
“I bought this dress for you. I’ve always thought lace would look good on you.”
It’s too much, all too much. Crying once again, you don’t hold back the sniffles and the hiccups as it turns to wailing.
“No, Y/N, don’t cry. If you don’t like lace I can get you something else. Whatever color you want.”
You can’t stop, not with the handcuffs holding you down, not with the brightness of the room, not with the reality of what’s become. You can’t stop the sobs that force your eyes shut and strain your chest. You can’t.
Something warm presses against your cheeks, and it’s as they wipe them clean, you realize that they’re Jun’s thumbs. But it does little, tides of tears continually soaking your skin and dripping down your neck and chest.
“I’ll make you the happiest you can be Y/N. Just like how you’ve made me.”

Dearest Heart (Ravus x Reader)
Tumblr media
COME ONE COME ALL TO SOME RAVUS FLANGST BROUGHT TO YOU BY A LAMEASS (me) AS REQUESTED BY @aeciru !!!!!!
From the prompt list:
#8: “I don’t need you anymore.”
#20: “Please don’t hurt me like this.”
#59: “You own my heart.”
I did all aforementioned prompts despite having the option to choose just one because there just isn’t enough love for Ravus ok!!!!! I took the liberty to adjust the prompts accordingly to fit with the dialogue though.
ALSO. BOY OH BOY WAS WRITING THIS A CHALLENGE. Ravus and Luna speak in a really eloquent and flowery manner, so I did my best apply such a style and drop contractions here and there whenever I saw fit. I went back and forth with several sections here just to beef up the story and make the relationship and history with Rea more developed and fluid. (((((idk why but i felt pressured to do our boye real good)))))) (i hope i delivered)
(keeping just ravus in character is hard okkkkk)
Speaking of!!!! I read that smol Ravus was actually really nice and kind, so I wrote him as such in the beginning. He becomes the Giant Angst Bean™ that we all know and love later on.
Title was inspired by @birdsandivory who often tags posts relating to their s/o as “dearest heart.” I thought it was the most DARLING thing ever, so I hope you don’t mind that I took that as inspiration!!
Tagging @thatoneawkwardfanthing and @lokewight who asked to be tagged!
i hope you all enjoy this ; w ;
word count: 5.3k+ words, fluff and angst, soft Ravus and hard Ravus (not sexual ok), spoilers for Kingsglaive
Growing up within the walls of House Nox Fleuret was a privilege that not many were privy to. Luckily for you, your family maintained close ties to the royal family of Tenebrae, thus granting you access to the more personal side of the Nox Fleuret family.
Though you were shy, your parents insisted that you befriend the Nox Fleuret siblings as a show of goodwill. Something about “maintaining peace,” or whatever it was the adults often talked about.
When you were first brought to Tenebrae to meet the nation’s royal family, you were in awe of the region’s majestic architecture — was that an actual castle? — and its signature blue flora, the sylleblossom. Fenestala Manor blew you away in particular, so you were all the more enlivened when your parents explained that this would be your new living quarters.
It was a long time coming, your move to the Manor. After all, you were being groomed to become the Royal Advisor to rising generation of Nox Fleurets.
Upon your arrival at the Manor, Queen Sylva had greeted you personally with the warmest of receptions. She even offered you a brief hug after you clumsily bowed before her. The queen’s friendliness took you aback, but it made you feel all fuzzy on the inside. She was nice.
With Queen Sylva were her two children, a boy and a girl. The female of the two siblings gravitated towards you naturally. She called herself Lunafreya, and she had the sweetest eyes and kindest smile. You regarded her with awe of her beauty.
“This is my brother, Ravus,” Lunafreya introduced as she gestured for you to step closer towards her sibling.
“Welcome to Tenebrae,” Ravus greeted with a friendly smile. “I do hope you enjoy your stay here.”
The different hues in Ravus’ eyes helped you maintain eye contact with him. “H-Hello,” you mumbled timidly. “I’m (Name).”
“What a lovely name!” Lunafreya clapped her hands excitedly as she looked to Ravus. “Wouldn’t you agree, Brother?”
Ravus nodded. “Indeed it is.”
You immediately blushed under their compliments. “Thank you,” you managed to let out, feeling the last of your discomfort crawl away from your skin. These two were good people, you could tell. Even though they were royalty, they welcomed you into their home — into their lives — with open arms.
That was the start of your allegiance to the royal family of Tenebrae.
*
“Princess,” you called. “It’s time for your lessons.”
“Oh (Name),” Lunafreya hummed from her bedroom. “Can’t we skip for once? Please?”
It had been several years since your life had first become interwoven with that of House Nox Fleuret’s. Since your initial meeting, you had only grown closer to both Lunafreya and Ravus at varying degrees.
Lunafreya was almost always attached to your hip. If she wasn’t busy with her duties, she was accompanied by Gentiana. Otherwise, she was often around you. You had come to love her like a sister and would do anything to keep that divine smile on her face.
On the other hand, you had also forged a very formidable friendship with the elder Nox Fleuret. You were closer to Ravus in age, so naturally, the two of you found a lot of things in common. In the years you had spent getting to know him, you had come to realize that Ravus was very much like his mother.
Unbelievably kind.
Incredibly accommodating.
So, so warm.
You were honored that Ravus felt safe enough around you to let his guard down and not just be himself, but also show his softer side to you.
You wanted to think that you were at least somewhat special to him in that regard.
These days, you weren’t sure what to make of the butterflies that went wild in your tummy whenever you were around Ravus, but spending time with him always made you giddy and caused your heart to race. It was hard not to smile in his presence.
“Your mother would have my head if I allowed another absence, Princess.”
“She would not!” the young blonde retorted as she fixed her fringe in place. “Mother is much too nice for such barbaric extremes.”
“Perhaps not,” you replied, a teasing smile sneaking its way onto your face, “but if Her Highness won’t have my head, then it will be your brother who may scold me if I continue to be soft on you.”
“That won’t happen,” Lunafreya assured you, a knowing smirk on her otherwise delicate face. “Ravus adores you.”
You immediately flushed at her statement. “H-He…! He does not!”
“Oh, but he does. In fact, Ravus-”
“Are you speaking ill of me again, dearest sister?” Ravus’ voice interrupted from the doorway.
You spun around to face him, feeling embarrassed that he had nearly caught onto what his sister had been insinuating. “My Prince!” You bowed before him, trying to keep the warmth in your cheeks at bay.
“At ease,” he said, placing a gentle hand on your shoulder to set you upright again. “How many times must I insist that ‘Ravus’ is enough?”
“My apologies.”
“And how many times must I defend my honor in front of you, brother dearest?” Lunafreya challenged teasingly, staring indignantly at her older sibling with her hands on her hips. “When have I ever spoken ill of you?”
“If we count all the instances,” he said, “then you will most surely miss your lessons, and we cannot allow that, now can we?”
Ravus glanced at you then, his dual-colored eyes holding a playful glint. You took this as a sign to usher your charge out the door and off to her obligations.
“I-Indeed, we cannot!”
Lunafreya threw her hands up in the air, exasperated. “Ah, I can only take so much when the two of you bully me together! Off I go, then.”
“We-! We weren’t bullying you, Lady Luna-” Your impending apology was cut short with the realization that Lunafreya had already left. Flustered, you turned to Ravus and asked, “She’s not… She’s not angry with me, is she?”
Ravus chuckled, waving his hand to dismiss your fears. “Fret not, dear (Name). My sister merely jests.”
You let out a sigh of relief. “Lady Lunafreya will be the death of me one of these days.”
“As she will be for me, as well.”
His reply caused a few giggles to escape your lips. Once your small bout of laughter tapered, you found Ravus to be looking at you with what appeared to be fondness in his eyes. His gaze made you blush, so you opted to break the silence by bringing the attention back to him.
“So how may I be of service of you today, my Prince?” you asked, returning to your well-mannered front.
Ravus sighed at your ignorance of his name yet again. “Yes, I’ve come to you in need of a favor, actually.”
“Oh? A favor?” You looked at him questioningly, your curiosity piqued. “I will do my best to be of assistance to you, my-”
“Ravus,” he repeated sternly, though his eyes remained tender. “When we are in private, kindly refer to me by my name.”
‘I take it back,’ you thought, feeling your cheeks burn all the more thanks to Ravus’ sweet plea. ‘It is the prince who will be the death of me, not the princess.’
“R-Ravus,” you tested, feeling lighter at the sight of elation on the prince’s face upon the utterance of his name from your mouth.
“Much better.”
You had to keep it together to stop yourself from swooning at his dazzling smile. At the age of 15, Ravus had grown well into his body, and by the looks of it, he would only continue to grow as the years go by. His face had matured some from the time when you first met as children, and while his features sharpened, his kindness had not wavered.
Especially not around you.
“U-Um… Ravus. Ahem. What is this favor you speak of?”
“You have heard of the upcoming ball, have you not?”
“Ah, yes.” You nodded, thinking back on the invitations you had glossed over just a few days prior. “The one celebrating our nation, correct?”
“That is the one. May I ask if you will be preoccupied then?”
You did a mental scan of your duties and responsibilities leading up to the ball. “I may need to assist Lady Lunafreya,” you answered, “but otherwise, I will be present at the sidelines in the event that my aid is needed for the remainder of the night.”
“I don’t suppose you would like to attend as a guest of the family?” Ravus quietly proposed.
Your brows furrowed. What need of Ravus required you to attend as a guest of House Nox Fleuret? You would already be present at the ball anyhow, so the invitation seemed odd as it was rather unnecessary.
Regardless, attending as a guest of House Nox Fleuret meant that the festivities would at least be a little more entertaining, what with the company of Lunafreya and Ravus making everything a little more enjoyable.
It also meant that you would by their side for most of the night, and that alone seemed more appealing than having to lurk in the shadows by yourself.
“That is a very generous offer, my- Ravus.” You winced at how your correction made it sound like you had referred to the prince as ‘yours,’ but you trudged on, hoping he hadn’t taken notice of your slip up. “I would be honored to-”
You were stopped by Ravus clearing his throat. “I’m afraid I failed to clarify.” Dusting off imaginary dirt from his sleeve, he added, “Would you be willing to attend the ball as my guest?”
You blinked up at him, caught off guard at the offer. “A-As…? As your…?”
He huffed a little uncharacteristically. “As my date.”
“Ah.”
An awkward silence enveloped the room. On your part, you were unsure as to how to respond to Ravus’ request. While there was no denying that you would be more than happy to accompany him to the ball — as his date, no less — when it came right down to it, you were torn between your personal sentiments towards the prince and what was expected of you as his Royal Advisor.
Perhaps it was because you were in your teenage years — being just a year younger than Ravus — but it was quite evident to you that you had begun to develop some feelings for your charge. It was a bit of a pickle for you, because it became a challenge having to keep your feelings at bay without crossing the line of what was considered proper.
Though your relationship with the Nox Fleuret family was definitely friendly and familiar, it was still encased in decorum and your respective obligations not just to each other, but to the nation of Tenebrae as well.
Thus, Ravus’ proposal practically blindsided you. You weren’t so naive as to presume he harbored some sort of romantic feelings for you as well, but you could hope, couldn’t you? He wasn’t required to bring a date to the ball; you knew, because you helped piece the occasion together. So what was he doing here, asking you of all people to come with him?
Your nerves and apprehension over how to approach Ravus’ offer must have shown on your face, as he immediately backtracked, saying, “You are not obligated to accept, of course.” Was he worried that you would only say yes because you thought you had to? “I am well aware that such gatherings are not to your taste. Thus, my request may be more of a nuisance than anything, so-”
“Yes.”
Ravus’ rambling came to a halt. “I… beg your pardon?”
“Yes, Ravus.” You gave him a bright smile, hoping it would convey enough of your feelings for him to understand. “I would be delighted to accompany you to the ball, if it won’t be too much trouble for you.”
His shoulders practically sagged in utmost relief. “No, never,” he said as a small smile began to bloom on his face. “You are not an inconvenience in the slightest.”
“So…” You looked away, feeling bashful over the how things had unfolded. “I shall see you then, my Prince?”
“You do me the greatest honor.” Ravus reached out to you and delicately grasped your hand in order to lay a soft kiss on it. “I shall see you then, my (Name).”
“Ex-Excuse me?” you blubbered, feeling your cheeks grow even warmer. “Your (Name)?”
“It’s only fair, is it not?” he asked, a teasing lilt in his voice. “I am your Ravus, and so in return, you are my (Name).”
“Th-That’s-!”
“I shall see you at the ball, dearest heart. Good day.”
And with that, Ravus not only left you a flustered mess, he took with him the rest of your heart as well.
You didn’t really mind, though.
*
You often look back on that time with much fondness and love. The ball was boring as expected, but being by Ravus’ side for the entirety of the night made it much, much more tolerable. Lunafreya sending the two of you some smug smiles also made for some amusement that night.
Despite the fact that you came as Ravus’ date, neither of you initiated the step to further your friendship into a romance. Both of you merely skirted around your feelings, too shy to do anything beyond the confines of your personal and professional lives together.
Lunafreya often urged you to take the initiative and allow the love between you and her brother to prosper, but you always evaded her prodding. In spite of Lunafreya’s unabashed approval and support, you believed that you were in no position to present your feelings to Ravus and expect some sort of reciprocation in the form of a romantic relationship.
No, you wanted it to come from him. You were merely his advisor and a childhood friend at best. There was no way you were going to burden him with your feelings, not when you were unsure if this was what he really wanted with you. If he was not going to take the step forward, then you would adjust to his pace, as you have done all these years.
You were content with remaining by his side. Whether it be as his advisor, his friend, or his lover… so long as you were with him, then that was more than enough for you.
Things changed just a year later with the death of Queen Sylva and the imperial control of Niflheim over Tenebrae.
*
Now, years later, you still remain by Ravus’ side. Many things have since changed, such as Lunafreya’s appointment as the new Oracle, as well as Ravus’ new occupation under Niflheim’s invasion.
No longer was he the prince of Tenebrae. Now, he was known as Ravus Nox Fleuret, the High Commander of the Imperial Army.
You still referred to him as your prince, though. Ravus would merely ignore the title as if you had never said it in the first place.
After the death of Queen Sylva, Lunafreya had pleaded with you to place your focus on her brother rather than on herself. You had objected, arguing that both she and Ravus were your responsibility. However, the young girl proved to you just how mature she was beyond her years when she countered that Ravus needed you more than she did.
“There is only so much that I can do for him,” she had admitted to you tearfully. “But you… you are his heart. Please, (Name), I beg of you. Please do not leave my brother’s side.”
“Lady Lunafreya…” You had held onto her as she fell apart in your arms. Right then and there, you swore that you would remain steadfast in your devotion to Ravus regardless of what life would throw at you.
“I promise.”
If only it were so easy.
At present, the young boy you came to know and love was nonexistent in the Ravus that stood before you today. Gone were the warm smiles and gentle eyes, now replaced by hardened glares and permanent scowls.
The death of his mother had clearly changed Ravus. Though you held him close to your heart, you struggled to reach him beyond the icy walls he had put up around his own heart. Still, you stood by him and remained at his side amidst all the changes he went through.
“My Prince,” you murmured timidly, stepping into Ravus’ office. “Your sister requests your presence for supper.”
“Tell her to proceed with her meal,” replied Ravus from a pile of papers he had not looked up from.
“My Prince, if I may.” Shutting the door behind you, you made your way across the room and settled in front of his desk. “It’s been several days since you last shared a meal with Lady Lunafreya. She merely misses your company, and-”
“How many times must I tell you?” Ravus abruptly stood up and sent you a cold glare. Though you had become used to such painful gazes, you had to admit that they still pierced at your heart rather agonizingly. “I am no longer a prince, and you must address me accordingly by my new title instead.”
It was hard to keep your face neutral when the sadness in your heart overflowed for Ravus.
“My apologies, High Commander,” you muttered softly, offering a bow. “Old habits die hard, I suppose.”
“If only some would die easier than others,” you heard him grumble under his breath.
His harsh tone made you wince, but you did nothing to address his statement. Sending him an affirmative nod, you said, “I bid you a good evening, then, High Commander.”
Noticing your wounded look, Ravus softened his voice and called out to you almost apologetically. “Have you forgotten?” He combed a hand through his hair, which had grown much longer over the years. “I am Ravus to you in private.”
So there was still a bit of the old Ravus somewhere in there. The thought made you smile, albeit a bit sadly.
“Please don’t forget to eat something, Ravus.” Your eyes softened as they met his. “Feel free to summon me if my help is required.”
At that, you made yourself scarce, unaware of the look of longing in Ravus’ eyes as he stared after you.
*
Just a few hours later, Ravus had called for you once more, requesting for dinner. You delivered his meal to his office without a word, only to be stopped by him as he requested that you join him and have a bite as well.
“I’ve already eaten, Ravus.”
“Would you do me the honor of gracing me with your company, then?” He pulled out a chair for you, the hard strain in his eyes growing tender for a few moments.
Only you still got to see this side of Ravus. Only you could do this to him.
“It would be my pleasure.”
The two of you sat there in his office, basking in the quiet. Though no words were shared, the company you offered each other made for a fairly pleasant night.
*
When word of Lunafreya’s imminent union with Prince Noctis of Insomnia came to light, you grew worried. Not just for Lunafreya, but for Ravus as well. Ever since the death of his mother, he had come to loathe the Caelum line and, in effect, Noctis himself.
His bitterness and rage towards the Lucian royal family had consumed him over the years. You had seen firsthand how such dark thoughts and feelings had changed Ravus, so with the announcement of his sister’s engagement to the Crown Prince, you became distraught over how your own prince would handle the news.
One day, you noticed the younger Nox Fleuret carrying a suitcase as she made her way across Fenestala Manor. She appeared to be dressed for travel, prompting you to wonder what her intentions were. As far as you knew, Lunafreya had no meetings scheduled for today. She made no mention of going out, either.
With your brows furrowed, you caught up to her and asked, “Princess, where are you off to?”
“(Name)!” she squeaked in surprise. “I am in need of your help, kind (Name). Please, allow me to leave as I must speak to King Regis immediately!”
“King Regis…?” you repeated, trying to process the growing urgency on her face. “Is this about your engagement to Prince Noctis?”
“It is more than that.” Lunafreya nodded, taking ahold of your hand. “Please, (Name), I must make my way to Insomnia as soon as possible. Will you assist me?”
Your mind scrambled to sort out your thoughts. “I… I cannot, my Princess,” you informed her regretfully, feeling a pang at the frown that took residence on her face. “But it is only because I swore that I would remain by your brother’s side. You remember, do you not?”
“Of course I do. I am eternally grateful for your honor and devotion to Ravus.”
You bit your lip, sending a prayer to the gods above that all would work well. “Still, I cannot simply abandon you in your time of need.” You pulled her to the side and stealthily made your way to the lower floors of the manor. “I may not be able to escort you to Lucis, but I can at least ensure that you find your way out of Tenebrae.”
Lunafreya’s expression brightened at your words. “Thank you, (Name). I owe you.”
“You owe me nothing. Now come, we must make haste.”
Both you and Lunafreya had evaded the imperial guards that monitored the hallways of the manor. Just as you were nearly at the door, the two of you were stopped by none other than Ravus himself.
Snatching Lunafreya from your grasp, he dragged her towards a nearby room, but not before sending you a scathing look.
“And you,” he snarled, “I will have a word with you once I have settled things with my sister.”
The dread that churned at the pit of your stomach almost hurt as more as the pain in your heart due to Ravus’ anger directed towards you.
*
“What were you thinking?!” he barked, slamming the door of his office.
You opted to create a small distance between you and Ravus, growing cautious of his boiling rage. Drawing closer to his desk, you answered, “I merely offered my assistance where it was needed, Ravus. It is as I have done for you and your family all these years.”
Ravus sneered at your response. “Were you foolish enough to allow Lunafreya into the clutches of our mother’s murderer?”
The neutral mask you wore began to crumble with the beginnings of a frown. “Ravus, I understand that you blame King Regis for the death of our queen, but-”
“Understand? You think you understand?”
This was the first time you had ever truly been on the receiving end of Ravus’ fury. It wounded you deeply, causing you to wither away at his spiteful voice. His build, which had grown sturdier even more, now felt menacing as he towered over you.
Still, you reminded yourself of your promise to Lunafreya, no matter how much Ravus was now hurting you.
“You think you understand what my sister and I have been through?” he continued with a scoff. “Are you so stupid to believe that you are so special simply due to our history together?”
Your eyes began to water by then, but you remained rooted in your spot. “I-I…”
“If that is what you believe,” he snapped, “then you are much more idiotic than I thought you to be.”
This time, you flinched. You kept your head bowed in order to hide the steady stream of tears that rolled down your face. “R-Ravus, please…” you hiccuped, “I know you are hurting, but please…”
“YOU KNOW NOTHING!”
A sob threatened to escape your throat, but you slapped a hand over your mouth to keep it in. “Please,” you whimpered pathetically, “do not hurt me like this, Ravus.”
Your plea seemed to have fallen on deaf ears, for Ravus broke you down even further with one simple but cruel statement.
“I do not need you any longer.”
“Wh-What?”
“You are hereby dismissed of your duties,” he continued, voice devoid of emotion. “Until a more suitable role for you can be found, you will remain at the manor for the time being.”
You were openly weeping by now. “Ravus, you cannot mean this.”
“I do,” he retaliated coldly. “Now get out.”
You lifted your pain-stricken gaze, only to pull away the moment your eyes met Ravus’ seething glare. Where was the Ravus you loved? This wasn’t him. The Ravus you loved wouldn’t hurt you so brutally without any heed to your sensitive emotions. The Ravus you loved wouldn’t strip you of the one thing that gave your life meaning throughout the years.
What were you to do now, if you could not remain by his side?
Sniffling, you shuffled your way towards the doorway where Ravus stood. You lowered your head once more as you bumped against him. But, before taking your leave, you offered some parting words to Ravus that would haunt him forevermore.
“You… You will always be my heart, dear Ravus. I pray that you find peace and happiness.”
*
In the days leading to Lunafreya’s escort to Lucis, you steered clear of both her and Ravus. Ultimately, you were no longer bound to them, at least by Ravus’ words.
‘I have failed you, my Princess,’ you thought glumly, looking up at the night sky. ‘How can I remain by your brother’s side if he no longer wants me there?’
Soon, Fenestala Manor grew quiet with the departure of the remaining Nox Fleurets as they traversed to Insomnia. It didn’t take long before news of the nation’s fall reached your region, causing you to plunge into a pit of despair as the tragedy sent a blow to your very core.
King Regis, dead. Even the sweet Prince Noctis was said to have passed on. But what truly broke you was the news that your dearest Lunafreya was gone as well.
Maria, who had remained in your company the past few days, could do little to console you as you drowned in your hysteria. This couldn’t be true. You refused to believe it. No, Lunafreya was still alive. She had to be.
And what of Ravus? Where was he now? Had he fallen amidst Niflheim’s betrayal as well?
You didn’t know what to do with yourself.
‘Please,’ you begged to the heavens above, ‘please, keep them safe. They’re all I have.’
*
Some of your worries had been eased at the return of Ravus. Though he retained his cold demeanor, he brought with him a new prosthetic — one that you couldn’t help but marvel at as you stood before him in his office yet again.
Though news of his arrival had reached you, you had forced yourself to remain at your quarters and not seek him out. With the memory of your last conversation still painfully fresh, you chose not to look for Ravus, providing him the space and privacy he had forcefully set between the two of you.
Your efforts were put to rest when Ravus himself summoned you. Here you now were, avoiding his gaze as you fidgeted nervously in front of him.
The silence was incredibly overbearing, but you feared that if you spoke, he would only lash out at you again. Thus, you kept mum, giving Ravus the floor to voice his thoughts, whatever they may be.
At first, he sighed. Then, with a few careful steps, he approached you. Raising a hand — from his flesh limb, notably — he caressed the side of your cheek in a motion so affectionate, you had to question if this was really the same Ravus you had last perceived before the blatant dismissal of your obligations to him.
“You appear well,” he commented softly, his hand leaving your face.
You couldn’t help but long for his touch. Still, all you could do was nod, feeling as if your voice and words would merely betray you if you tried to speak.
“I…” You could hear his fists clench. “Will you look at me? Please?”
At this, you lifted your gaze to meet his eyes. Based on the memory of your last meeting, you had expected to see bitter rage in his stare. You were proven wrong, however, as you found nothing but throbbing emotion looking back at you.
There it was. The same fondness he used to look at you with. The same tenderness and affection his dual-colored eyes had always revered you in.
There was also one other thing you found in his soft gaze, but you dared not voice your thoughts in fear that you were simply dreaming.
In his eyes, you found love.
“I am sorry.” His voice broke. The last time you were a witness to Ravus’ tears was shortly after the death of his mother. Now, such waterworks were making a return, though you found it hard to fathom that these tears were due to his own grieving for you.
“I was wrong,” Ravus went on, reaching out to you but stopping short, as if he was afraid you would reject him. You eased his fears by meeting him halfway, reaching up on your heels to hold his face in your hands. “I do need you, (Name). I will always need you.”
His hands enveloped yours as you both cried for each other. “Ravus…”
“I meant none of it. Not a single word I had uttered that day held any truth. Please, believe me.”
“I know, Ravus,” you sobbed. “I know.”
You don’t know what it was that had happened to him in Insomnia to cause this sudden turnaround in Ravus, but you weren’t going to question it. All that mattered was that he was here now, with you.
“I realize now that it was I who was the foolish one. It was always me. Never, ever you.” This large man, whose mere presence held a threatening aura towards his foes, was now a snivelling mess in your hands. “I beg for your forgiveness.”
“There is nothing to forgive,” you assured him tenderly, wiping away the tears that had leaked during your exchange of words. “I am relieved that you, too, are well.”
“I will never forgive myself for hurting you that day,” he admitted, pulling you closer. You felt your lip quiver as you recalled the relentless words he had directed to you back then.
You shook your head, trying to rid yourself of such memories. “None of that,” you told both Ravus and yourself. “What matters is that you are here now.”
“There is so much that has been lost, but I will not allow you to be lost to me as well. Not anymore.” He paused for a bit, moving his grasp from your hands to your face, albeit hesitantly. “What you said then, did you mean it?”
“Mean what?”
“You… You own my heart, (Name),” he confessed at last, leaning his forehead on yours. “I would like to know if your sentiments remain the same, though I know I am undeserving of them.”
A sweet smile began to surface amidst your tears. Carefully bringing your face closer to his, you whispered against his lips, “You are my dearest heart, Ravus, as you have been and always will be. Nothing will change that.”
What lay ahead seemed bleak, what with Niflheim’s rise and the still unknown whereabouts of Lunafreya. But, as you remained glued to Ravus, your mouth locked with his in a passionate exchange, all you could do was melt into him and allow your feelings of love to come undone once and for all.
Come what may, you would remain by his side until the very end. What made it easier this time around was the knowledge that he would do the same for you.
At the end of the day, it was just as Lunafreya had told you all those years ago. You were his heart, just as he was yours.

@signofthebis (aka petra): Happy birthday, Celine! ❤❤❤ You know why I followed you. Because of the tags you wrote under my bta pants gifset. And I knew in that moment... this is a person that gets it and I need her in my life. And then I was lucky enough to get into the biconic gc you started and I got to get to know you and wow? You're amazing. You're so funny and incredible and just... I stan forever??? You're truly a queen. ❤❤❤❤ One day your selfies are gonna kill me because you're that gorgeous. And honestly? So Celine, I hope you're having a wonderful day and may your life be filled with only the best of luck, may it be full of love and kindness because that's what you're giving to us and you deserve the same it in return. Ily ❤
@flowerfeasts (aka dani): I followed celine like a year ago because i used to see all my faves tagging her on my dash, so i thought she was very important and cool and i remember waiting like a few weeks to follow her cause i somehow thought that would increase the chances of her following me back? lmao anyway, i still think she is very cool and i LOVE her fashion sense and she is a libra! that means she is awesome
@harryandcats (aka lejla): CELINE MY ANGELBOO!!!! I’m sooo bad with words and tbh?? there’s not enough words to describe how much u mean to me anyway smh you’re one of the sweetest, funniest and smartest (let’s just not mention your posts and the things you say something BDJDNDNDB) and loveliest people I know!! you’re also so silly sometimes but in a very cute and endearing way bdndn I could talk to you about literally anything, be it something deep or something random like poptarts bxjdndn speaking of poptarts we truly gotta meet someday and you’ll have to buy me lots of things and in return you’ll get the biggest hug of your life!!!! sounds like a plan if you ask me anYWAY I lov u with my whole heart, you’re my love, my life, my wife, my gf, my bitch, my boo, but most importantly: my dumbass ✌🏻😔 I hope you have the loveliest day!!!! Happy Birthday, Celine!! 💗🌈💕
@harrysnotechanges (aka kristyna):  Celine 💕💕 you are so funny and such a kind and generous person (not to mention gorgeous, ugh it’s not fair). I’m pretty sure I first started following you because of your url (I mean how much more iconic could you get,,, and I couldn’t agree more, the bta pants were the best pants Harry has ever worn tbh) and I stayed because you’re just an amazing human being. Ily 💕💕💕 Happy birthday!
@gettingdizzy (aka sav): I LOVE CELINE she is super kind and funny and like a little sister to me!! talking to her always makes my day better :) im not even sure why i started following her we probably got put in a gc together or something but im so glad i did!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY ILY
@nofoookingway (aka jess): Oh boy, lil Celine. The cutest bean I’ve ever seen. I know we don’t speak anymore bc I’m trash and got too overdramatic about a stupid lil thing, but I’m so glad that we still follow each other and I see you on my dash every day. Your posts never go without a typo, even if it’s just the tags, and that’s probably my favorite thing about you. You’re so expressive and so weird in the best of ways. I’m pretty sure you’re starting uni (if you’re not smack me), but I know you’re going to kill it. It’s hard af, and it’s gonna suck. You’re gonna hate it sometimes, but believe me when I say I know you can do it and that you will have a blast once you find your niche. If I can do it, you sure as hell can. I wholeheartedly believe that. Anyways, I hope your birthday is just as fun and amazing as you are. ilysm 💛💛
@leesh (aka leesh lol): HAPPY BIRTHDAY CELINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i hope u have the absolute best birthday ever bc it’s what she deserves and i hope harry makes an appearance again looking absolutely fabulous bc it’s also what she deserves (maybe wearing the bta pants? yes i’m putting it into existence!!!!). i honestly can’t rmbr how or why i started following you, maybe it was a gc or maybe i just liked ur blog, i have a terrible memory, but i am SO GLAD whatever the reason I DID. i love seeing ur posts on my dash and i love seeing what you’ve got to say and i also love talking to u in gc’s and stuff. ur a cool gal and i’m glad we had a chance to become mutuals and pals. again i hope u have the best way day ever and get spoilt rotten. i love u!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 💖✨
@kiwiintro (aka kayla):  Happy Birthday Celine Bean! I hope it's amazing I love u and you're so iconic and amazing and ur an actual Meme™️ sometimes anyways again I hope your birthday is amazing and have fun being 1(one) year older ❤
@harryftvans (aka teresa): celine my dearest witch princess and gentle air spirit happiest of birthday wishes to you!!! someone’s getting old lol anyway I wish u all the best and hope you have a great day and that a lot of other great days will follow because u only deserve happiness and love and ~good vibes~ in your life!! stay ur amazing self, you’re always so chill and laid back (which is nice in this hectic world gksndn) and even when you pull a zayn on us at the end of the day you’re always there for us, being supportive and it’s always a delight to talk to you and hear stories from you!!! great britain is blessed to have you for the next couple of months/years (hope u have a nice time at uni I believe in u) so yea enjoy your day hope it’s filled with lots of love and hugs!! i’m glad you’ve been brought into the world and i’m glad we were out in the same group chat I couldn’t imagine my days without u, love you v much💕
@pinkflaredpants (aka iris): No offence but it's been a whole ass year since we first heard medicine and still no fuckin studio version of sott.
@britneytshirt (aka daria): celine, remember the day we became mutuals? it’s definitely been a year(+) now, can you believe it’s been that long? i followed u not really expecting to be followed back and u followed me about .02 seconds later and honestly i was a lil shocked. so i put my insecurities aside and decided to text u and u said u just saw my url and liked it and followed me. like?! *harry voice* craziness right? anyway, i like to think of u as a little present from life. when we started talking i was very lonely and literally cried myself to sleep every other night and having a friend, you, to talk to made me realise nothing is ever that bad and in a way... gave me hope? you mean so much to me. you’re always fun to talk to, u always have the funniest things to say. and most importantly, i know i can always count on u for whatever, you’ll be there to listen to me. so thank u. i’m so grateful i have a celine in my life. i love u
me (aka moi): so....celine, where do I even start? from those very first few months when I joined this fandom in september last year we were close friends. we started our first conversation about old 1d memes and the rest is history. I don’t think there’s been a time in the last year or so where I haven’t spoken to you, and I really couldn’t imagine my life without you in it. I look forward every day to chatting with you in the gc and i’m always just in awe of how accepting, loving, caring and truly inspiring you are as a person. I love hearing you speak italian in the rare voice messages you send, and especially your selfies (I will hold the belief that you should be a model to the grave I think tbh). you inspired me to love myself for who i am and we’ve grown as friends into something I never thought i’d reach. i’m never going to be able to fully articulate the weight you hold in my life or the impact you’ve had on me, and i’m bad at expressing my feelings anyway, but I just wanted you to know how LOVED you are, by me, and from everyone here. I can’t wait to eventually meet you once you’re settled over here and I can’t wait for the memories and shows we’ll make in the future. thank you for being you, and please never stop being your amazing self 💕

It was brimming on the edge of Winter in Detroit, Cera could feel the snow in the air. She loved this time of year, the vibrant colours that contrasted the grey skies and gentle winds biting at your cheeks. Autumn was coming to a slow end but that didn't stop the city from being a bustling metropolis.
Cera's sneakers hit the ground gently as she ambled across the pavement. Tonight, she'd be hosting a cocktail party that may or may not be attended by the one and only Carl Manfred. She had adored his work for as long as she could remember. The way he managed to capture what he saw around him and within the world was... quite honestly astonishing. And tonight, she might watch him utterly destroy or make her dreams come true. She was brimming with nerves This could make or break her.
Cera had been setting up a debut of a new set of canvas paintings in the 'Carrolinous Gallery of Unique Arts'. Said gallery also held a vast Manfred collection that she'd gazed at for longer than she'd care to admit. But she never thought he'd be put on the guest list by the curator. He's often escorted by a tall android who goes by the name of Markus. Cera had never met him, but some of her more successful friends told her about him. He was soft spoken, gentle and had a very calming nature. Growing up in Florida towards the start of the Android craze, Cera had never cared for them. Well, that's a complete lie. Cera ADORED Androids, she'd always had a fascination over robotics. She thought Elija Kamski's creations were fascinating people. But, that was the difference wasn't it? She'd always considered them far more than most people wanted to. Even in their early stages, when Kamski would parade his latest prototypes to the world, she saw them as... people. It was unbelievably unsettling to watch them be bought and sold. It left a sour taste in her mouth.
She swore to never own an Android. It felt so wrong, to have a slave in your home. Someone who cooked, cleaned and did everything while getting nothing in return. Being treated like dirt, like objects. Every Android she met, she treated with as much respect as she would any other person. People thought she was weird because of it but Cera just thought it made sense. You can't build an entire new race of people and then treat them like that, it was disgusting. It reminded her of when parents treat their children like burdens, children who never asked to be born. Androids weren't asked to be made, they had no control over it.
The music in her earbuds blocked out everything around her, she focused on the feeling of the wind and the way little drops of water kicked up from her shoes as she walked across the wet pavement. Cera was trying to calm herself down before the party tonight, she didn't want to be too het up when she got there, or it'd be a disaster. She had her methods, but she found a soothing walk just before she needed to get ready helped, most of the time, to drown out all the other noise before she'd have to face a room full of very loud, very nosy people. "Serves me right for being in the art industry. These things need to happen if I want to get my work out there." She mumbled to herself, only just hearing herself above her music.
Getting ready for the party was... interesting. It was a constant cycle of checking the clock, looking at the outfit she'd laid out for herself, reconsidering, asking Erica what she thought and then rinse and repeat. She huffed her bangs out of her face as she noticed the time was drawing far too close to be able to mull this over for much longer. Cera wasn't a very fashion-centered person, yet she knew making a good first impression at these types of socials was stupidly important. Yes, a lot of the art world were obsessed with personal image. She figured her art should speak for herself, but the reality of the situation meant she needed to be at least somewhat presentable. She eventually settled on a sleek red cocktail dress and some comfortable flats. Parties were uncomfortable anyway, why make her feet suffer? It was an hour before the guests were scheduled to start arriving and the curator wanted her there early so she could have a final say on the structure of the showcase; and make any last minute changes she felt necessary. She ran a hand through her dark hair, smiling at how the white tuft at the front sloped over her eyes. Cera huffed, looking herself over in the mirror. Tonight was the night.
The night she'd have to stand and watch her life-long idol scrutinize her work and most likely belittle it. Would he do it to her face? Surely not. Would he trash talk her to other artists? She let out a shuddering breath, realizing she'd been holding it in. He's not like that, surely? But then, who really knows their idols. People can have the sweetest, most distinguished outer persona but really just be monsters in disguise. She reached to her wrist where an intricate bracelet sat. It was made from strong strips of leather, stained black and swerving in-between each other in a tight weave. Speckles of red ran through it like stars in the evening sky. She fiddled with it, rolling it between her fingers as she nodded.
She settled into the back of the autonomous taxi alongside her best friend and roommate, who was furiously typing on her phone. "Getting into another fight?" She asked her, chuckling. Erica looked up at her with a steely determination. "No, I'm proving someone wrong." Cera rolled her eyes at her friend, knowing she'd be getting an earful on just who this person was and why they were the embodiment of Satan. Erica was sometimes a handful. She was very energetic and had a strong character, someone who wasn't afraid of confrontation. Her background in Biology meant she could argue and have the facts to back it up at arm's reach. This could be useful whenever someone decided to mindlessly harass Cera over a piece of her art they didn't like, but it could get a little much at times. She loved her though, she was the person to get her away from her family, who sheltered and fed her in her worst days. She, who paid for her art supplies and never stopped supporting her when she pursued her love while demanding nothing in return.
The taxi coming to a stop snapped Cera out of her dream-like reminiscing and the tight knot of nerves in the pit of her stomach quickly made a return.
The inside of the Gallery was incredible.
It was made from a repurposed Cathedral, huge panes of stained glass depicting the stories from its long-abandoned purpose decorating the inside. The company who had renovated the Cathedral refused to take them out, wanting to respect the building's history; creating an art exhibit from the building itself. The different rooms held exhibits for various artists and mediums. Sculptures, digital art, wool crafts, paintings, you name it. It was probably why Carl Manfred liked to display his work here, he never did enjoy the norm. The inside of the Gallery was awe inspiring. The huge main room was where they held their current exhibits and today, Cera's art was front and center. She had to stop the tears that brimmed at her eyes from falling. 'I'm finally getting somewhere.' She thought, a rush of emotions overwhelming her for a moment at how far she'd come.
Thankfully the Gallery had done a good job at organizing her works the way she'd planned and Cera didn't have to make any drastic last-minute changes to the set-up. It was around 7:45pm that guests started to filter in. The event technically started at 8pm but there were those who wanted to get in early before the bustle. Cera fiddled with her fingers as she looked at who was filing in. She recognized a few people but she couldn't bring herself to try and make that kind of small talk. This was already becoming hard, but she had to push through. She pushed her bangs back a couple times, catching the stray strands that tried to escape as she watched people survey the pieces she'd spent a year preparing. The canvases that told more about her than these people could ever see. She wasn't stupid, she knew many of the people here weren't interested in the art she had to offer, only what they could make selling it. Wasn't that the dream? To be successful, loved, in homes and galleries across the world?
Cera's eyes drew towards the entrance where she heard comfortable chatter and a painfully familliar voice. A lump formed in her throat and she turned towards one of her own pieces, trying desperately to act as if she were surveying the brush strokes.
"Agather, thank you for letting me know about this. I'm always pleased to see these up and coming kids and what they're coming up with. Keeps this old man feeling hopeful." Carl smiled up at the curator of the Gallery, a soft-spoken woman with fading grey hair. Her cheeks were always rosy, and she gave off a very motherly aura, it was incredibly calming. She bent down to kiss Carl's cheek. "Oh, hush you. We wouldn't dream of keeping you locked in that studio of yours, come!" Agather ushered both Carl and Markus forward into the room. Markus pushed Carl's wheelchair silently. His eyes flickered to the various pieces dotted around the room and he smiled, seeing the clear inspiration that had been taken from Carl's work. While his Master may always claim to hate these types of parties, he couldn't deny it was lovely to see those who admired his work. Carl had inspired so many artists, young and old, and Markus knew that secretly he loved these gatherings. It was the events that his own work was the highlight that bothered him. So many people simply wanting to try and cash in on Carl's popularity.
"Cera! Cera dear, I wanted to introduce you!" Agather's voice pierced Cera's mind like a bolt of lightning. The sweet woman was not the problem, it was who she knew she was with. Cera attempted to compose herself before she turned around, offering a polite smile. She couldn't help the hitch in her breath and her eyes widening as she found herself mere feet away from her idol. He looked so casual, confident even. This was something he did all the time, why would he be nervous? "Carl, this is Cera. She's one of our newest exhibiting artists. This is her debut! Cera Stark, this is Carl Manfred, a-"
"I know! Um- I mean, I uh, I'm very fond of your work, Mr. Manfred. You've been a huge inspiration to me, ever since I was small." She tried to get her words out in some sort of sensible fashion but it all ended up being rushed and shaky. Though she did have to commend herself on it being somewhat intelligible. She held her hands out, and Carl smiled up at her as he shook it, she felt her heart stop. "Thank you very much my dear, that's very humbling to hear." She desperately fiddled with her bracelet, trying to calm her rapid heartbeat. "I was interested in seeing what you youngsters were putting out into the world. Our world is built on the innovation of the young, not the traditions of the old. That's real progress." Cera smiled as a wave of relief washed over her. Carl didn't seem to be like the other stuffy artists she'd met. He hadn't let age wash over his fiery love for his craft like so many others. "I always loved to create things, e-even from when I was young. I never imagined I could end up her-" She gestured at the grand building they were stood in. "-I think 12-year-old me is having a party at the moment." She let out a nervous laugh, trying to hide how her hands shook. She looked up to Markus who was giving her a patient smile, his eyes looking... no. Was it? They just seemed to hold so much more... emotion than the other androids she'd met did. Come to think of it, she couldn't think of anywhere she'd seen this model before. She extended her hand out to Markus. "Nice to meet you as well, um, I-I'm sorry I didn't get your name." The hot sting of embarrassed hit her for not learning the name of the Android of HER IDOL, GODDAMN IT. She was sure she knew his name, but it escaped her like when you're chasing a hat in the wind. So close but always one step ahead. His smile flickered to a look of confusion for a moment before he composed himself, taking her hand and shaking it firmly. "My name is Markus, it is a pleasure to make your acquaintance." WOW his voice was soothing. It was like auditory silk and Cera felt a blush creep up on her.
The three were interrupted by the sound of someone tapping on a microphone to test if it works, followed by Agather's energetic voice.
"Thank you, everyone for attending tonight's debut exhibit. We have some excellent pieces tonight. A special thank you to Carl Manfred for sponsoring our gallery. We wouldn't be anywhere without the incredible people who put blood, sweat and tears into keeping this establishment together. Without further ado, please welcome Cera Stark!"
Oh Jesus Christ that was her queue.
She smiled politely at Carl and Markus before attempting to weave her way through the maze of people. Agather was stood in front of three of Cera's best paintings holding a microphone and looking at her expectantly. She slid up to the older woman and took the microphone, trying desperately to rehears her speech again in her head, delaying the inevitable for as long as she could. Before she knew it, she was stood alone in front of a crowd of people, including her idol.
Here goes nothing.
"From the first day I could pick up a pencil, I knew this was what I wanted to be. The world we live in doesn't offer a lot of control... We have rules. Rules for everything it seems. But, when I paint..." Oh god she was shaking, no, she couldn't let the wavering enter her voice. Appearance, presentation, that's what these people were looking for. She scanned the crowd and in the split second that she paused, her eyes found the gentle green ones of Markus. He had wheeled Carl close to the front of the crowd and was nodding at her, encouraging her to continue. The overboiling pot of nerves she'd become began to slow into a simmer. "When I paint, I am in control. People will try to tell you there are rules when it comes to art, force you even; to follow them. But there aren't any. Art is free, it's... It's a comfort, in many ways." She paused again, adjusting her feet and smiling across the crowd. Smiling is important, keep doing that. She thought to herself. "Tonight's pieces I present to you are the fruits of difficult, troubling times in my life. I don't celebrate them, I celebrate myself. My struggles are my own and I dealt with them. I'm still here, they didn't get the best of me. These paintings are a commemoration to my own strength, and I thank you all so much for coming to see them. Art is the thing that has always inspired me to be better, be it famous, well known masters of their trade-" She took a moment to smile down at Carl, who returned it in kind. "-or simply anonymous graffiti on an abandoned building. I am always inspired." A rupturing applause broke Cera out of her dream-like state.
Her cheeks tinted pink as Agather came to her side to give her a hug. She accepted it, despite not particularly wanting to be touched at the moment. She was filled with adrenalin at what she'd just accomplished. She never dreamed she'd ever be so lucky or brave to speak to a room of people about her art.
The night was a blur. Cera's brain went into autopilot as she was approached by various artists and curators, offering her their thoughts on her pieces. She did listen, to the best that she could. The constant chattering noise of the room acted like a white noise machine. Everything was so loud, she could hear every tiny thing. Someone accidentally clinking a glass against another as they go to pick it up, the rustling of clothes as someone reaches for a handkerchief in their pocket. The chinking of jewelry when someone tilted their head to consider the piece they were looking at.
Cera was stood in a more secluded part of the huge room, holding a cup of water as she desperately tried to ground herself. Footsteps were muffled through the sea of noise, but the gentle touch on her shoulder caused her to lurch backwards. She turned to see Markus looking down at her with concern. "I'm very sorry if frightened you. Carl asked me to ask you to come see him, so he could ask you some questions about one of your pieces." Cera gulped, tapping her leg absentmindedly. "Oh! Yes, sorry. I was in my own world. Lead the way!" She couldn't help the shakiness of her voice and she cursed herself for being so jumpy. Why did parties have to be so hard for her?
He smiled down at her and she could feel herself calming down, if just a little bit.
Markus walked effortlessly through the various people dotted around the exhibit before Cera could see Carl in front of one of her pieces. Her breathing hitched, it was the one she'd made just after...
"Art is so interesting. People can debate the meaning behind an artist's works for decades, but unless you actually ask the artist, you'll never really know. I could assume a million things about you from this one painting, but I doubt I'd be right. So, tell me my dear. What went into making this one, if you don't mind me asking?" He turned his wheelchair so that he was facing her, a look of happy curiosity dancing across his face. Cera drew in a shaky breath.
"I was h-homeless for a time. I didn't have..." She fiddled with her bracelet. She couldn't lie to Carl Manfred, but this was a hard subject to approach. "I didn't really have anywhere that I felt safe. It was a difficult time. My friend Erika... she kept me going." Her mind raced back to those nights... Nights where she couldn't sleep because it was so cold, nights where she was sure she'd never find a home again, night where... she gave up. "She offered me a place, here in Detroit. This..." She gestured to the painting. "Was the first painting I made after I found myself in D-Detroit." The lump in her throat didn't fail to leave her, the memories flooding her.
"That's very powerful." Carl simply said, his eyes scanning over the canvas. "Don't ever let anyone tell you that your struggle is what made you. Yes, struggle is what sometimes shapes us into who we are, but you clearly have a lot of talent. You turned a horrible situation into something you could master. Never let them tell you that you needed that struggle to build you, you would have gotten here without it." The sparkle in his eyes made Cera smile. Carl Manfred was truly a wonderful man, who managed to bring tears to her eyes over something SHE'D painted. He told HER that SHE had talent. She wanted to hug him and tell him how much that meant to him, but instead she opted for the brightest smile she could muster. "Thank you, Mr. Manfred, there are no words to describe how much that means to me." He nodded, turning back to the painting. "What do you think, Markus?" That made Cera stop in her tracks. She'd never heard anyone ask an Android what they thought before. Markus scanned his green eyes over the painting, his LED blinking as he seemed to take his time to analyze what was before him. "There's a powerful emotion behind this, as you've clearly stated. But you don't have to know that to see that this painting holds extraordinary value." He turned to look at her. "Not monetary, emotional." His gaze was back on the painting. "Though of course I'm sure many will be happy to have this in their home."
Cera held her hands behind her back, fiddling with her bracelet again. She couldn't quite fathom what he had said. Did Carl tell him to say that? A million thoughts ran through her head and she realized she'd been staring at him. "Thank you very much, that's really sweet of you Markus." She exchanged fiddling with her bracelet to lightly tapping her leg again. "Let's hope everyone else here have the same opinions!" She let out a laugh. Surprisingly, being around Carl and Markus was far more calming than she thought it would be. She doesn't feel she needs to impress anyone like when she talks to other people she's met at these things. Maybe he hated these as much as she did?
The rest of the evening was as she expected it to be. People sidled up to her to network. They complimented her art in the way they thought she wanted. She enjoyed the praise, of course, but it was hard to take it in when you knew the people giving it likely didn't mean it. They simply wanted to see if they could try and squeeze money out of her.
Carl and Markus stayed for a few hours, but for much less than she'd like. She said goodbye, offering a sincere smile at the both of them. They managed to make this evening far more enjoyable than it could have been, and shit. Markus probably unknowingly saved her from a terrible presentation and barrels of embarrassment. She wished she knew them well enough to thank them with a gift, but hopefully she'd see them again.
However, this wasn't the case.
This would be the first and last time that Cera would meet Markus, as he was then.
Before he went Deviant.
