911 ep 702 first watch reactions
Man, IDK. Maybe I shouldn't be writing about this. I'm an Israeli. I'm currently living a continuous trauma. The end of 701 already felt a bit difficult for me. The start of 702 was even more so. And maybe I don't have the right to speak about this, being Israeli and watching a show that is American.
But then I think... yeah, it's an American show, but it is made knowing it will be aired internationally, including in Israel. It's an American show, and plenty of American Jews have family and friends in Israel, maybe they had a similar reaction to mine. It's an American show, and I am not American, I am probably not someone they keep in mind when they make it, but I am a human being, and as such, I have the right to share my experience. Even if it is unique, and not one single other viewer felt the way I did when watching 702, even if no one else reads or gets this. We are all valid as human beings, with our unique experiences, and that does include me.
It was hard for me, seeing civilians being held hostage at gun point, when 134 of our hostages are still kept in captivity, and when I heard so many testimonies from people about the many hours they spent staring down the barrel of a gun, or being under siege.
It was hard seeing people made to kneel with rifles pointed at their heads, then Norman, a character we've gotten to know more than the average vic on this show, being shot. There's a specific vid from Oct 7 that this made me think of. It was CCTV footage, showing a girl who was fleeing Hamas terrorists, and they ended up with one catching up to her, she was on her knees, the terrorist was aiming his rifle at her head, and she was begging for her life. He let her go on like that for several long and excruciating to watch seconds, where it was like... maybe it won't happen, maybe he won't shoot. Then he shot her anyway, and her body fell back from the impact of the shot, and then to the ground.
It was hard seeing Hen's decision in the field being questioned, by others and at times herself, while thinking of all the soldiers and commanders who are being questioned, and are questioning themselves, on whether they made the right calls on the day of Hamas' massacre, and the days leading up to it, which enabled the brutal, torturous murder of so many. I've even seen civilians do that, like Rami Davidian, who's being interviewed by many for being a hero, driving into the scene of carnage repeatedly to save others, most of them strangers, and at least once I heard him saying he feels guilty and sorry for all the people he failed to save.
It was hard watching Bobby and Athena saying their last goodbye to each other, when I have spent almost half a year listening to people sharing their last conversations with their loved ones, and watching too many saying their last goodbye at funerals. I just recently wrote about Libby Cohen Meguri's last phone call to her family, when she had already been shot, and all she wanted was to tell them that she loves them, but her mom was too in denial.
I feel like I should say something about the storytelling, about how great the show is again, how this is a multi-ep disaster done right, with the correct balance between the regular emergencies, the big one, and the personal lives of our protagonists with their familial love for each other, with a great build up, both from one ep to the next, and within the eps themselves... A part of me does notice and is happy about that.
But most of me just can't. That's trauma for you, I guess. And to borrow the words of one Eddie Diaz, I'm scared that I will never feel normal again.

Buck has a problem and that problem is that Eddie Diaz is going to ruin his life.
OR
Eddie starts modeling on the side and Buck can't stop looking at his pictures, mostly because Eddie's ads are everywhere.
It all started on a call.
Well, more accurately, it had to have started well before The Call™. But honestly, The Call™ ruined Buck’s entire life. He’s started viewing his life as before The Call™ and after it. But by the time they’re on The Call™, it’s too late for Buck to save himself. Buck has no idea how he’s going to survive this, and no he isn’t being dramatic.
The Call™ in question happened on a pretty average Thursday. They’re responding to a call at the Four Seasons in West Hollywood, Buck is pretty sure the victim is a hotshot young producer, but he’s not exactly tuned in with the Hollywood crowd. The vic has a broken leg from falling out of the shower and a possible concussion so Buck and Eddie help get him out of the bathroom and into the bedroom where there’s more space before Hen and Chim do their initial assessment.
“Give them some room to work,” Bobby tells the team as Hen and Chim get started with stabilizing the patient for transport. Buck wanders out of the bedroom into the open concept living room/kitchen and looks down at a copy of this month’s Vogue that’s sitting on the kitchen island, Margot Robbie smiling up from the extremely pink cover.
Buck flips the magazine open, wondering if he’ll have enough time to read her interview, when he drops the magazine. It doesn’t close, instead it lands open on the island, still on the page he had stopped on, a black and white Calvin Klein ad staring up at him. Buck is pretty sure he’s hallucinating, almost positive that his fantasies are making him see things.
He rubs his eyes before looking back at the ad again, but that’s still Eddie fucking Diaz looking up from the glossy pages of the magazine. The long line of Eddie’s bare thighs on display as he lounges on a bed, half propped up on a pillow. The white tank top Eddie is wearing is pushed up to his chest, his abs look so good that Buck wants to lick them.
“Uh,” Buck looks down at the magazine, unable to tear his eyes away from where Eddie’s happy trail disappears into the tight, white boxer briefs that Eddie is wearing in the photo, his thumb tucked into the waistband in a way that’s making Buck a little tight in his pants.
“Is that the latest Vogue,” Buck jumps, he forgot that Ravi was even with them. He forgot basically everything he’d ever known after seeing Eddie’s fucking bedroom eyes in that magazine. “I want to read Margot Robbie’s article, hand it over.”
“No,” Buck could hear how off he sounded as he spoke, his voice breaking. “It’s nothing.”
“Wait,” Lucy appeared behind him like some kind of witch, “is that Diaz ?”
“Is what Diaz?” Eddie looked up at them from where he was leaning against the fridge. He looked like sex, all functional muscles and a little scruff.
Lucy grabbed the magazine and held it up, showing Ravi and Eddie the ad. “This you?”
“Oh,” Eddie looked down and Buck could see a soft pink blush on Eddie’s cheeks. “Yeah, that’s uh, that’s me.”

I know, "Recovery", will be at the Diaz household. How?
Well for one, Buck does not yet have a couch.
Two, I doubt either Eddie or Christopher will want to let Buck out of their sights after everything.
Also, the Madney household is not done, plus there's a sweet but restless toddler running around the house. 😍
And since this storyline is awfully familiar to me (station 19 - Vic, anyone? 👀) Buck is going to be wearing a monitor watch to make sure his heart is not in distress, which also will have to include a lot of rest and require to have someone to watch out over him. (In Station 19, they were Vic's boyfriend and her best friend. - Eddie and Christopher for Buck? 👀😉)
Also, because there is a very big foreshadowing that has announced exactly that earlier in the season.
I am talking about 6x07 "Cursed."
The undefined relationship between Felisa and Alexis (aside from the money thing, obviously) felt very familiar.
Felisa stresses outside the crystal shop (where both she and Alexis are knocked out, btw) that Alexis is all she has.
Eddie's face says it all. He has one of those, and indeed, in the next frame, we see Buck loading Alexis to the second ambulance.
She sits with her in the hospital after she's released and talks to her, suggesting a girls' trip once she's better. - Eddie is a spectator through all of this. And he gets this amazingly tender look on his face when he listens to Felisa as she talks to unconscious Alexis.
Fast forward to the end of the episode, Felisa tells Eddie that Alexis is going to stay with her when she gets out of the hospital.
and eventually tells him that she's going to have the house blessed just in case, before Alexis comes to stay with her.
Another thing she says is that it's easier to believe you're cursed than wrong, and post-therapy Diaz is amused by it.
And yet he still calls his Abuela after Felisa leaves and asks her about his future anyway.
Here, in this frame, everyone thought, at the time, that the focus on Christopher a frame later is because he will be in danger, but the truth is, that the whole of S6a even stretching back to S5b, is about Buck's connection to the Diaz boys.
And as most of you saw the promo pic of 6x11, it also confirms that the Diazes are going to pull Buck even closer to them once he's awake and out of the hospital.
For all his bluster and disbelief of curses in general, when Buck asks Eddie outside the crystal shop if he still thinks Felisa isn't cursed, he answers, "No, but I think I am."
Now, why would he say that? Because Eddie lost his wife, lost his army buddies, nearly lost his son and best friend, and nearly lost himself somewhere along the way.
He also keeps encountering couples in the making that will eventually end up together, there were the ladies from the driver's test in S5, there were Josh and Carson, now Felisa and Alexis, everyone eventually pretty much get over the first encounter and move forward together. - But not Eddie, not with Buck, not yet.
If there was ever a catalyst to get these two to, at least, talk about their shared trauma and living together in the same house, this is it.

Everything seemed normal. They worked together as well as they always have. They’ve been spending a little less time together as they settle into their respective new relationships, but even that hasn’t been as painful as Buck had feared. He’s still at the Diaz house every Friday without fail for movie night and it’s easy and joyful as always. Eddie smiles at Natalia when she comes to group events and it doesn’t even seem forced like it had with Taylor. Buck keeps his opinion that Marisol seems like a perfectly nice, perfectly safe, perfectly boring girl that Eddie’s parents would love very, very secret, and is genuinely happy to see his best friend having a good time dating someone. Eddie gets flustered and giggly about her, in a way Buck has never seen before and thinks is adorable, though he’d never say that out loud either. They’re good. They’ve really been good, so Buck doesn’t notice the tiny moments when things aren’t good for a while. A bit of tension in Eddie’s jaw when he’s just slightly late for movie night. A calm disagreement on how to get to a vic on a call that resolves easily when they talk it out, off only in that they'd usually be on the same page from thr start. Turning to Eddie to finish the punchline of a joke to find he hadn’t been listening to the set up. The big one, though, the oh shit moment, comes when Eddie falls off a roof.
That’s an exaggerated summary of the event. He was about to repel off it anyway, and Buck had triple checked his harness already, and was standing by the safely secured line and had caught him easily when his foot had slipped on a loose brick. It’s not til they’re back on the ground that it happens, that he claps Eddie on the arm with a grin and says “You gotta watch your step, man,” and Eddie looks at him for half a second with deep, hot anger flashing in his eyes. Buck stumbles over his own boots at it, even if Eddie immediately looks as surprised at himself as Buck feels. And then they’re loading back into the trucks and they get three more calls in rapid succession that push them over the end of their shift and Eddie has to run out the door to be on time getting Chris so they don’t get to talk about it. There it is, though. Eddie is mad at him.

Eddie Diaz had been shot more times than anyone should’ve been in one lifetime, he had been to war, he had been buried alive under 40ft of mud, he had nearly drowned while getting himself out of said 40ft of mud, he had survived so many near death experiences, but the tuesday night his appendix decided to burst? Eddie thought for sure he was going to die.
It really came out of nowhere, he hadn’t been feeling bad at all, no fevers, no nausea, no abdominal pain, he had been completely fine one moment, helping out their vic into the ambulance and calming the nerves of the partner who had never seen a broken leg before, and the next thing he knew he was doubling over in pain, throwing up into the asphalt, his insides feeling like they were tearing open.
If he didn’t know better he’d think that he had been shot again.
Bobby and Chim were by his side in an instant asking him what was wrong, and if anything had happen, Eddie could only shake his head, but as soon as they tried to move him, he was hit with another wave of excruciating pain and dropped to the floor, curling into himself. That’s when he felt a couple of big hands cradle his head and brush their fingers over his cheeks.
“Eddie? Eddie, what's wrong?” Buck asked him, and Eddie made an effort to open his eyes again.
“Hurts, stomach, i don’t know” He grumbled, wishing it would just stop.
Bobby must’ve called for a second rig because next thing Eddie knew he was being rolled into a gurney and transported to the ER,
“What the hell is wrong with him, chim?” Buck asked from next to him, Eddie was holding into his hand tight enough that he might’ve done some damage.
“My best guess? Appendicitis?”
The last thought of Eddie’s head was, oh fuck, before pain made him pass out.
Next time he opened his eyes he was staring at the hospital’s room ceiling, he tried to move but he felt the very distinct pull of stitches in his abdomen.
“Ugh” He tried to say, but his throat was too dry.
“We’ll be home soon, ok, bud? Be good for Carla” Eddie turned his head following the sound of Buck’s voice, he had his back to Eddie, and was still wearing his uniform, he had his phone on his ear, and nodding along to whatever Chris was saying on the other side “I will bud, I’ll let you know when the doctor tells me anything, okay?”
“Buck?” Eddie tried again, this time managing to make more noise and startling Buck and making him turn around “What happen?”
“Hey” He said softly “How are you feeling?”
Eddie frowned, making a mental check of himself, his thoughts were too fuzzy for him to make a proper check, but he didn’t feel like his stomach was being torn open so he figured that was good.
“Alive?” He ended up saying, making Buck laugh.
“Yeah, gave us quite the scare there buddy”
Eddie smiled at him “Sorry, when can we go home?”
“Tomorrow maybe”
Eddie hummed and closed his eyes “Chris waiting for you?”
“Yeah, I’m picking up dinner from that Italian place you pretend you don’t like? Sorry you’re gonna miss out”
“Mean”
Buck was still laughing when Eddie fell back asleep.
He ended up staying at the hospital for 2 days, it wasn’t by far his longest stay at the hospital but towards the second day he was already climbing the walls, he was fine, he was ready to go after the first 24 hours, but because his incision was slightly red and swollen. He was fine, the doctors were just annoying.
“C’mon” Buck said, guiding Eddie into the house, he would’ve complained that he didn’t need the help, but the truth was that he kinda did. It was too early for him to be heading to bed, so he asked Buck to set him up on the sofa where he could watch Buck tinker around the kitchen or play video games if he got bored.
“You’re all set up” Buck said once Eddie was laying down on the sofa, his back being supported with what seemed like every pillow in the house, “I’m gonna get you a snack in a second, what else can I get you? Do you need water? A hug? Space?”
Eddie stared at him for a second “You know what, a hug would be nice”
Buck chuckled, helping Eddie sit up and wrapped him in his arms, Eddie rested his head on Buck’s shoulder and breathed him in.
“Thank you Buck, for everything you do for us”
Buck hummed “You I love it, I love helping you guys out”
Eddie hugged him tighter for a minute, promising himself that once he was better, he was going to tell Buck just how much he meant to him.

Jordi Díaz Alamà, nacido en Granollers en 1986, es licenciado en Bellas Artes por la Universidad de Barcelona. Se perfeccionó estudiando arte clásico en escuelas internacionales, como la Academia de Arte de Florencia, donde adquirió conocimientos sobre las técnicas empleadas por los grandes artistas del siglo XIX. También tuvo el privilegio de formarse con maestros contemporáneos del realismo, como Guillermo Muñoz Vera, Odd Nerdrum y Antonio López. Aparte de su actividad artística personal, Alamà es también un consumado profesor que ha impartido clases en la Universitat de Belles Arts de Barcelona y fundó la Barcelona Academy of Art en 2013. A través de su enseñanza, se esfuerza por promover los métodos clásicos del arte como una valiosa herramienta que ayuda en la interpretación y representación de temas de hoy en día.
La obra personal de Alamà muestra un impresionante abanico de técnicas pictóricas que mezclan el realismo clásico con la estética contemporánea, libre de cualquier manierismo estilístico. Sus series #ClásicosDesollados y Red Studio, que combinan la pintura realista al óleo con toques abstractos, son exploraciones rompedoras de la intersección entre el arte clásico y el moderno. Su proyecto expositivo Si Volse a Retro, creado en colaboración con el escultor polaco Grzegorz Gwiazda, reinterpreta la Divina Comedia de Dante Alighieri y pone de relieve el compromiso del pintor con la figuración contemporánea.

Jordi Diaz Alamà, born in Granollers in 1986, is a graduate of Fine Arts from the University of Barcelona. He further improved his skills by studying classical art at international schools, including the Florence Academy of Art, where he gained insights into the techniques employed by the great artists of the 19th century. He also had the privilege of training under contemporary masters of realism, such as Guillermo Muñoz Vera, Odd Nerdrum, and Antonio López. Apart from his personal artistic pursuits, Alamà is also an accomplished teacher who has taught at the Universitat de Belles Arts de Barcelona and founded the Barcelona Academy of Art in 2013. Through his teaching, he endeavors to promote the classical methods of art as a valuable tool that aids in the interpretation and representation of modern-day themes.
Alamà’s personal artwork showcases an impressive array of pictorial techniques that blend classical realism with contemporary aesthetics, free from any stylistic mannerisms. His series #ClásicosDesollados and Red Studio, which combine realistic oil painting with abstract touches, are groundbreaking explorations of the intersection between classical and modern art. Top of the Top:
Born a Crime was probably my favourite non ficition, and most of that probably is due to Trevor Noah's narration skills. It was very entertaining and heartfelt.
Less uplifting but just as gripping in a different way was Empire of Pain. Excellent book that went deep into the why and what and hows of Purdue Pharma. Anger inducing.
Lazarus Heist is great and available as a podcast. The book is more or less the podcast word for word.
Fictionwise: I read Trust at the start of the year and it was a bit soon to declare as favourite of the year, but it's stil made the final cut. Just very imaginative and intriguing. Just my kind of MetaFiction. Clever without being cleverclever.
Demon Copperhead I read right off the back of Empire of Pain so maybe that coloured my experience. I've not read any Dickens so loads of references no doubt flew past me, but the language was acrobatic and zingy. I loved it.
Wrapped up the year on a high with North Woods. That was so unexpected and entertaining. Again with the playful language, memorable characters and a unique approach to tying all the various stories together. One that sticks in the mind and makes the writer in me wonder how I can replicate his style (with my own personal twist of course.)

I totally understand people's frustration with the lack of Buddie interaction but let me just say one thing. If Kristen really disliked Buddie why open with such a beautiful family scene. The dim lighting, the lasagna, the roasting, the couch metaphor that has been in play since Taylor!!! Where is that couch by the way. Lucy better not being sitting where family game nights were held lol.
But seriously you could have just had Buddie in the locker room with a 3 sentence exchange "end scene".
None of us can promise they will be Canon but if I had my doubts it's not because of the beginning of the season. If I am actually being really honest if you asked me in S3 which one could have been gay I would have guessed Buck. Baby me then would never had guessed that in S6 I was more sure Eddie Diaz was queer and Buck may not be TBH. I only had that thought back then because that was actually my worst fear if they didn't go Canon. That one of them would end up with a man and the other with a women. I should probably see a therapist about that!!!

(Since I’m falling a bit behind on answering asks despite doing my best, with your permission, I’ll answer you and then two more Kristen asks in this post)
Yes, I fully agree. I was going to mention in this ask reply the lasagna scene as something that says that 911 obviously wants us to know they have not forgotten about Buddifer or are ignoring it, but I had so much to say, I ended up forgetting that bit, so thank you for adding it in! And you phrased it so well, too. Everything about that scene was very deliberate.
And yes, I’ve said it time and again, I can’t know that Buddie will go canon, I’m just out here, hoping for it and explaining why, based on the story as it’s been told so far, I can’t see another other satisfactory resolution for either Buck or Eddie (or for that matter, even Chris in terms of getting both of the people he sees at a certain point as his parents under one roof, as we’ve seen is his secret wish in 210).
As for Buck, I’ve always thought he oozed bi energy since 107 and his bonding with the gay vic. That was only reinforced along the way, and now we have stuff like Buck casually quoting gay anthems to Eddie like it’s nothing. I’m sorry, no matter who his partners end up being canonically by the time the show is over, there is no way that boy is straight. IDK if that helps you, but that is the one thing I will insist on. Queer Buck is real and deserves all the love.

In my opinion she's separating them cause she has no intention of doing buddie canon, but not to stop us from since she knows it's impossibile, but I think she's afraid of being accused of queerbaiting again from journalists. I mean she brought back Carla after 20 episodes to avoid buck being there, not to the dance, but just helping chris dress, and that scene with buck hen and denny? Like see he hangs out with all the 118 kids

I don’t think she wants to stop us from shipping Buddie, she has stuff to gain from us shipping (Keeps the current viewership and gets a very active fandom that through online content is bringing in new viewers even during s6), and she can lose things if we stop shipping (she’s lose viewers, she’ll lose the active online fandom, and those fans who get frustrated and give up? They’ll accuse her of queerbaiting for sure). And yes, I do believe the 601 scene is a sign that’s not the direction Kristen means to follow. Am I right? We’ll get a better idea once 6b airs. Last season, 5b made it clear that the distance in 5a was not meant to tear Buddie apart, so I tend to believe that’s what we’ll have this year, too. But if s6 wraps up without Buddie coming back together, then I guess we’ll have an answer (not necessarily a definitive one. I've said before that you can’t judge a show on the issue of queerbaiting until it’s off the air, ‘coz as long as it’s on, the execs can always choose to change direction and make the same sex ship happen. This would be especially true in the case of 911, if Tim decides to step back in and change the course Kristen set).

Hey! So I know you talked about this thing a lot but there's something that I don't understand about what kristen said about exploring other dynamics. What I don't understand is that yes we had some more hen/buck and chim/eddie scenes, but the only dynamic that was pratically absent from 6a was just buddie, we still got some hen/chim scenes. And while i get don't make them talk about the donor for now, I think they could still make some space for some buddie scenes, what do you think?
Hi Nonnie! You’re right, we did get some Hen & Chim. But TBH, Hen & Buck isn’t that new either, we just got a bit more of it than in previous seasons. Neither is Eddie & Carla that new. Carla was used in the past as well when they needed some stuff to happen away from Buck, like in 312 when it absolutely could NOT be Buck there when Eddie first meets Ana or you know our moron Diaz boy wouldn’t have even looked at her. And Carla was also used in 510, so that when Eddie announces he’s leaving, it came as a shock to Buck. None of that kept Buddie from being intense and domestic and there for each other in the long run. And the Chim & Eddie stuff we got this season was hardly substantial. It’s not like it feels as if these two are suddenly each other’s new besties. I think Kristen does wanna keep Buddie apart for a bit, and she uses other dynamics to solidify the sense of A TEAM, while also preparing us for Buddie coming back together in 6b. I could be wrong, of course, as I told the previous Nonnie! But that’s how the story telling so far this season feels to me. And I also wouldn’t take any interviews too seriously. Cast and show runners alike, when they do PR for their show, they have one job: to get you to keep watching. So they will say whatever they think will do that. If Kristen doesn’t wanna reveal her real 6b plans, but she does want us to be patient and wait for Buddie’s return in 6b, and she thinks that will best be served by saying she’s just exploring new dynamics, then that’s what she’ll say, whether it’s accurate or not.
