Seeing that there are new people joining the Encanto fandom, so I wanted to say welcome! Feel free to interact with content and also the blogs on here. Interaction is the lifeblood of tumblr, and it’s wholeheartedly welcomed. I love meeting new people and discussing Encanto with them, so definitely reach out! I’m a huge Pepa stan and I love Félix/Pepa, especially writing about them! Most of my Encanto writing is about those two, though there’s a good amount of triplet stuff and cutesy family things as well. All of my Encanto writing can be found in the pinned post at the top of my blog, with each piece linked. I do take prompts, so if you have any ideas you want written, let me know!

What are the jobs/occupations in your mafia au?
Are the teens in training or are strictly not allowed to touch any weapons until their eighteen?
How protective are the adults over their children? Are they like regular parents/abuela/Tio or are they like "You bully my child? Do you want you AND your parents six feet deep? I/we can make it happen and no one would even look for you"
Are they rich per say? Do they have gifts?
How did the mafia start? Was Alma or Pedro already born in one or did it develop after Pedro's death?
How protective are the grandkids over each other? I honestly feel like everybody would be mad protective of Antonio since he's the youngest, and he's the most spoiled out of all of them. (But are the grandkids on some level spoiled as well?)
Do Mirabel and Camilo have some sort of a good relationship in this au?
How does everyone feel about blood shed? Do they feel queasy or will they not even bat an eye at it?
Sorry for all the questions, I just love Mafia au's.
Don’t apologise! I love getting questions for any of my AUs!
This will be a long one, so apologies if this isn’t out quickly.
Not too sure what you mean by jobs/occupations. Looking at other AUs there is no specific things and the only thing I could find on the internet was the hierarchy or roles in the party game. If you have anything to help with this, I’d greatly appreciate it!
As soon a Madrigal reached thirteen, they were allowed to begin training. Nobody is actually allowed to do anything in reality until they are eighteen though.
Depends on which of the adults you speak to. Alma was very protective when the triplets were little, once they were old enough to handle themselves, she stepped back a bit. That doesn’t mean she won’t defend them though. Pepa is definitely the most likely to bite your head off (metaphorically) if you even so much as look at her kids the wrong way. Julieta, Félix and Agustín are a lot more normal.
They weren’t rich initially. When Pedro died, Alma gained all of his family’s (who are also dead) inheritance and then became wealthy. She managed to keep a steady inflow of money, so they have remained quite comfortable over the years. Though they aren’t as rich as before, naturally having such a large family has its expenses and the economy is shit.
They do not have gifts. I felt it would make them too-overpowered; it would be too similar to every other Madrigal mafia AU; and I just made an AU where the gifted Madrigals become a crime family, I’m not repeating the same idea.
Pedro and Alma were both from crime families - granted, Alma’s was much more minor and they had practically stopped crime by the time she was an adult. However, growing up in that environment still influenced her and allowed her to meet Pedro. She brought a lot of influence and new ideals to Pedro, making her quite high-ranking in the order of command. Which is why, at his death, all his wealth and power fell to her over anyone else.
Influenced by their mother, Dolores and Camilo (especially Camilo) are very protective over Antonio. Luisa, as usual, is overprotective of Mirabel. The others are more normal.
Yes, Antonio is very spoiled as the youngest and one of two boys. Isabela, Dolores and Camilo were also very spoiled - though are a bit ignorant to the fact. Luisa and Mirabel, neither the eldest or male/only female in their side of the family, definitely fell under the radar a bit more in childhood; neither of them were spoiled.
Camilo and Mirabel have their usual rivalry. (It’s in their characters, I’m not changing it). They spend more time together here, if that’s what you’re asking.
Mirabel and Pepa are both squeamish. Pepa, who has adapted a little, usually carries a paper bag with her now. Mirabel, hasn’t really seen anything yet, but faints over a pinprick or paper cut. Needless to say, the family have doubts about how well she’s going to do in the future. The rest either don’t care about bloodshed or actually enjoy it.
If you have any more questions, please do not hesitate to ask!

@mintsilhouette
I blame you for this. Tiny Tio time! 😁
Tumblr media
Bruno knew he was short. He was all too aware of it, thanks. He’d never been in denial about it and, most of the time, it didn’t bother him. It was just a fact of life. Both of his sisters were bigger than him, his mamá only ended up shorter than him in her old age; Agustín towered over him and Félix was the same height as him. Many people told him that Pedro had been tall too.
The real insult was that the kids were taller than him.
Frankly, it was the nail in the coffin, the last slap in the face from God Himself, the ultimate evidence that Bruno had terrible luck. Before he vanished, Isabela and Dolores were already well on their way to being taller than him (Isa, at age 12, had nearly been eye-level with him) and God knew Luisa was easily the tallest member of the family.
But Mirabel? His dear, sweet Mirabel, who’d never harm a fly?
This was injustice.
“I’m disowning you,” Bruno informed her flatly. Just before her sixteenth birthday, she’d hit one last growth spurt and now she was the same height as Julieta. Taller than Bruno.
Thanks for nothing, genetics.
“Sorry, Tio,” Mirabel laughed. She wasn’t sorry at all, the traitor. Camilo lounged against the counter with a smug grin; he was nearly the same height as Agustín now.
At least he looked a lot less smug when Bruno slapped him with a dish towel.
“Ay, come on!” Camilo groaned, rubbing his arm. “It’s not our fault you’re short! Blame Abuela!”
“I do,” Bruno said, nose in the air. “And whichever family member I inherited the short genes from. And Pepa.” He jerked his head at his sister, who was snickering shamelessly. “She definitely stole all the tall genes.”
“Get born faster next time,” Pepa said, patting him on the head.
“That doesn’t even make any sense, Pepa!”
“Your face doesn’t make any sense.”
Bruno’s eyes narrowed. “Your dress is ugly.”
Thunder rumbled. “You take that back!”
“How old are you two again?” Mirabel asked, arms crossed. Camilo was right back to looking unbearably smug.
By that point, Pepa had him in a headlock and Bruno resigned himself to his fate. Everyone in this damn house was taller than him except Félix and Antonio.
Sighing, Bruno glanced at Antonio who was giggling hysterically over their antics. “You won’t get taller than me, right, Tonito?” he asked.
“I’ll try not to!” Antonio said earnestly, eyes big and shiny. Did Bruno mention he’d simply die and kill for that child? Because he would, no hesitation.
Bless Antonio’s heart, he actually meant that he’d try and stay short. He even asked Félix for tips on how to be short at dinner, which made Félix gape at him wordlessly and the rest of the family (even Alma) burst out laughing.
But Bruno was Bruno. The world had a way of mocking him.
An involuntary vision hit right after dinner; he was dimly aware of someone catching him before he could hit the ground, green took over everything and...
There was a very tall young man, walking by Luisa. He had thick curly hair and a bright, happy grin; round eyes and a gentle disposition. He had a whole pack of animals following him and a jaguar at his side.
Bruno came back to reality and groaned tiredly. For once, it wasn’t because the vision had worn him out.
“Ay, Tonito,” he sighed. “You’re going to betray me, little guy.”
“Oh no!” Antonio’s eyes watered and he grabbed at Bruno, trying to pull him from Julieta’s arms. “Tio, what did I do?”
Bruno looked him dead in the eye. “You’re going to be 6′3″ you not-so-little traitor.”
“What!?” Camilo sounded completely indignant. “Are you kidding me!?”
“Ooh!” Antonio just looked impressed.
“You’re welcome, bébé,” Pepa said, cuddling Antonio.
“I’m sorry, Tio Bruno,” Antonio said with a little pout. “I can still try to be short. We can make a secret short club!”
How a complete gremlin like Pepa and a master of chaos like Félix had an angel like Antonio, Bruno would never understand.
The last of the vision headache started to clear away and Bruno was quick to snatch Antonio from Pepa, lifting him straight up into his arms. Antonio giggled and wrapped around him like a monkey. May as well get all the cuddles he could in, before Antonio inevitably towered over them all.
“I don’t think it’s secret if you announce it, Antonio,” Bruno said fondly, trying to bite back a grin. “But thanks for the offer.”

Mirabel's Super Secret Adventure
Movie AU
Story Summary: Ever since her gift ceremony, Mirabel hasn't been allowed to do anything by herself. Which is fine, she's fine, she gets it. Mirabel is the miracles back up plan if anything goes wrong, she understands completely why her Abuela is so protective of her. And she's honored, really, to have been chosen for something so important. However. When she overhears her Tio Bruno and his wife talking about secret cracks, and discovers a hidden passage in the walls, Mirabel jumps at the chance to do something without her cousins being roped in to help her. (Can be read as a stand alone, or as a sequel to Love and Fury).
Or: Jared Bush said that things would have been very different if Bruno had had a solid relationship when he had Mirabel's vision. So this is how the movie might have gone if he had a wife and kids.
Next Masterlist
Prologue: Mirabel's not Having a Good Brithday
Julieta paced back and forth at the base of Bruno’s tower. There was no way she had the energy to climb all those stairs after the night she’d had, but she was also too antsy to wait in the airy tent Bruno usually held story time in.
She didn’t understand what happened last night. How could Mirabel not get a gift? Even Bruno’s son had gotten a gift and all of Bruno’s kids were adopted.
Not that that made them any less a part of the family, of course, but it did make Mirabel’s lack of gift all the more confusing. There was a horrible part of Julieta that wondered if little Gabriel had somehow stolen the magic meant for her daughter. Unintentionally, of course, she knew her sweet little nephew would never do such a thing on purpose, but…
She sighed, for neither the first nor last time that day.
Even if Gabriel had gotten the magic meant for Mirabel, that still wouldn’t explain why, or how this happened. And he was just as much a part of the family as any of the other kids, he had just as much right to the miracle as the rest of them.
But why didn’t her daughter get a gift?
Faintly, she heard a large door creak open, the groan of heavy wood parting with the stone doorway echoing off the canyon walls.
Julieta looked up at the rope and wood bridge, waiting.
Her Má had of course wanted a vision from Bruno as soon as the party was over. Thankfully, Bruno’s wife, Leandra, had been able to divert Alma’s attention to reassuring the villagers, while Pepa and Félix comforted the other kids. So Bruno had spent the night with Julieta and Agustín, comforting Mirabel or helping to distract the other children as needed.
There was no putting their Má off forever though, and as soon as Bruno had run out of excuses (and Leandra out of distractions) he was ushered up to his tower.
Where he was taking his damn sweet time.
Julieta huffed and shifted her weight from one foot to another, continuing to watch the bridge. Eventually, they walked across it, Leandra holding the vision and Bruno flinging his hands about in his usual way as he spoke.
His words didn’t carry down to Julieta, but the tension in his voice did.
Leandra rushed down the stairs, quickly pulling ahead of Bruno. She gave Julieta a tight smile, but passed her by with the vision in hand.
“Bruno will explain everything,” Leandra said, in a single breath as she all but jogged by. Julieta didn’t get the chance to even open her mouth to protest.
She sighed again and turned back to Bruno.
Who was still taking his damn sweet time.
“Ay, Bruno por favor,” she shouted up at him, “hurry up, my nerves are frayed as it is.”
“Right, right, right,” she heard him say, although not loud enough that she thought he might be saying it to her. It didn’t matter though because he did pick up the pace, soon she could hear his sandals slapping against the stone steps. When he finally got to her he stared at her, wringing his hands.
Julieta looked at him expectantly.
“It’s not Mirabel’s fault,” Bruno blurted.
“Of course not,” Julieta agreed immediately, “what isn’t Mirabel’s fault? Her not getting a gift, or-?”
“Or,” Bruno answered, with a nervous little chuckle.
“Bruno,” she groaned, about to mention again how nervous she already was.
“Right, yes, right, sorry,” Bruno held up his hands, a silent plea for patience she didn’t have, “somethings happening to the miracle, it’s not Mirabel’s fault, but she is at the center of it. I think.”
“Y-you think? What’s happening to the miracle? Why-?”
“I don’t know,” Bruno shook his head, wringing his fingers, “this vision, it was, it was different Juli. There was no one answer, no clear path. Literally all I know for sure is that something is happening to the miracle and Mirabel is probably at the center of it.”
Julieta absorbed this very vague and ominous statement then faintly asked, “Where is Leandra going?”
Bruno flinched, “To uh, to lie to Má about it.”
“What?!”
“Juli, it’s me we’re talking about, people always expect the worst from my visions, a-and if they see the one I just had… we need a plan,” Bruno sighed, at first looking tired, then he stood up straight, an increasingly rare occurrence, “we need to make sure people don’t blame Mirabel for whatever is about to happen.”
Julieta opened her mouth, then closed it, and nodded, “Fine, alright. So, what’s the official story?”
“-Bruno wasn’t able to see what exactly is going to happen to the miracle, but he did see this,” Leandra held the vision up to Alma, so that it showed the house in its broken state.
Alma gasped and put a hand to her mouth.
“Wait, watch,” Leandra breathed, then shifted the tablet just a little so the house seemed to repair itself, “whatever’s coming, the miracle is ready to fix itself.”
Alma breathed out a long sigh of relief, “And what is Mirabel’s part in all this?”
Leandra swallowed her guilt, looked Alma in the eye, and said, “She is a backup reservoir for the magic. See, the miracle will need her there in order to fix itself. The miracle didn’t skip her, instead of giving her a gift it stored some of itself in her.”
It wasn’t technically a lie, she tried to reassure herself, in fact it might even be true. It was Bruno’s top theory of what the vision meant. So technically she wasn’t lying to her mother in law, she was just… potentially wrong.
Alma slowly took the tablet from her hands, shifting it back and forth. Leandra watched her, reminding herself over and over that this was for Mirabel. Being married to Bruno had taught Leandra exactly how damning a bad reputation could be, how hard it was to escape such things. It didn’t matter how hard she campaigned for him, what changes he made, or how many children showed up to his weekly story time. He would always be Bad Luck Bruno to half the village.
They couldn’t let the same thing happen to Mirabel.
All the same, she hated (potentially) lying to her mother in law. Leandra looked up to Alma, she admired her, and she felt a great deal of sympathy for everything Alma had faced. And that wasn’t even touching on how grateful Leandra was.
Alma was always one of the most ardent protectors of Leandra’s children, nobody was allowed to so much as imply that Leandra and Bruno’s kids weren’t real Madrigals, not if there was anything Alma could say about it. It was already so hard to reassure Gabriel that he was welcome in the family, if they hadn’t had Alma’s staunch support, Leandra wasn’t sure they would have gotten this far.
And now Leandra was lying to Alma. Through her teeth.
Maybe.
“Of course it's Mirabel,” Alma suddenly chuckled, “that sweet girl could hold the whole world in her heart.”
“She really could,” Leandra agreed, wholeheartedly.
Bruno’s second most likely theory was that Mirabel was going to do something to fix whatever was happening, and Leandra had come up with plenty of half truths that would have convinced Alma of that fact despite how damning the vision looked. And she would have used those half truths, if not for Luisa, Julieta, and Bruno himself.
It was something her, Félix, and Agustín often grumbled about, how much pressure their spouses and children faced from the village. And from Alma.
It was too late to save the others, but not Mirabel.
So, she and Bruno had decided to cast Mirabel in a passive role. It was true she could turn out to be the hero of this piece, but she shouldn’t have to be forced into it. She shouldn’t have to spend her whole life on her toes, devoting her entire existence to one day doing what the village expected.
Mirabel deserved the chance to just… be a kid.
Alma sobered, “So the miracle is in danger?”
“Sí, but we don’t know from what,” Leandra sighed and shook her head, “just that as long as Mirabel is safe, there’s hope of the miracle healing itself.”
Alma nodded, “Good. Now come, sit with me. We need to figure out what we’ll tell the village. The last thing we want is for them to panic.”
“Agustín, mi amor,” Tía Julieta greeted her husband with a kiss on the cheek, “how much do you trust me?”
“With my life,” Tío Agustín answered immediately, “why?”
“And what would you do to keep our daughter safe?”
“Anything, why? Juli, what’s happening?”
Tía Julietta sighed, “I can’t tell you everything.”
“What? Why not,” his frown was audible through his tone.
“Because you are terrible at keeping secrets, and that’s exactly what we need to do to keep Mirabel safe,” Tía said.
“Ah. I see. What sort of secret?”
“The official story for last night is that the miracle has stored a piece of itself away in Mirabel’s heart in case it is ever in danger,” there was a pause, “the official story.”
“Right. And I take it there is an unofficial story?”
“Sí, and the fewer people know, the better.”
Tío Agustín sighed very deeply, “Will I get to hear it someday?”
“Sí, we think about ten years from now,” Tía Julietta’s voice was muffled, hands scraped up and down over fabric. They were probably hugging.
“Ten years,” he breathed, then sighed again, “I can wait ten years. For our daughter.”
There was a pause, then Tía Julieta began to sniffle, “Ay, sorry, sorry, I’m just so-. I am so many things right now, one of them being in love with you and another being incredibly grateful my children have you as a father.”
Lips pressed against smooth skin and smacked very quietly, “No need to apologize mi amor, we’re both very tired. And I’m certainly not about to complain about you being in love with me.”
They devolved into gross, cuddly talk after that, so Dolores tuned them out in favor of listening to Tía Leandra help Alma come up with a lie to cover the Official Story, that was also, apparently, covering the Unofficial Story.
If it weren’t involving her family, she would say this was almost as good as one of Tío Bruno’s stories.

AIR BENDA❗
I still haven't watched all of Atla, likely won't but. HEY GOOGLE EXISTS AND. I WANNA WRITE FOR THIS AU.
Been trying to give au's that don't get attention, have gotten a lot as of late/forgotten aus more stuff. Art takes a lot more time, but writing I can do anywhere and I can do a lot more. So. Here this is.
Lea get it
-----
Mirabel pulled her nightdress over her head, readjusting her glasses as she put her bow onto her vanity. After she left her room, she glanced up and down the hallway. The family was asleep, or at least in their rooms. She felt Casita's tiles shift and she shushed the house playfully.
"I know, but it'll only take a second," Mirabel whispered before going downstairs. It was a routine at this point. Since she didn't bend anything on her 5th birthday, she figured she was a late bloomer. After all, her primos and hermanas could bend. Her mama, tia, and tio could. So she just had to be able to bend something...right?
And it wasn't like she was singled out because she couldn't bend. Her abuela, papa, and tio Félix couldn't bend. And she had trained with melee so far, and she found it fun! But...something deep down wanted her to be able to bend. She just wanted to be like the other family members.
So, every night, before she went to sleep, she would go up to the table and try to bend something. Of course, she hadn't been successful in the past 5, almost 6 years but...she wasn't giving up now. Something told her she was close. Her next birthday was soon, her 11th, and she wasn't gonna give up now.
She finally came up to the familiar room she had been in and walked back several times. She could see the four objects used to see if a Madrigal child could bend were sitting then. A bowl of water, a few rocks, a candle, and some marbles. The marbles had never been used. No one could airbend. The only airbender had been her Abuelo, Pedro. But he was long gone, and no one in the entire village had been able to end the air. Water and Fire were common, but Earth wasn't unheard of; there was her Tio Bruno and her sister Luisa. (Though something told her her littlest primo, Antonio would also be able to earth bend come his fifth birthday).
"Ok," Mirabel said taking a deep breath. "Two thousand-ish times the charm. Right, Casita?" Miravel asked and the gave a positive reaction, encouraging the girl. Casita was a big supporter. Of course, her family was also there, but they didn't exactly know she did this. Dolores did but...she didn't tell anyone.
Mirabel raised her hand. She copied a move she had seen Isabela and her mama do a million times. The water was still. No result. Moving onto the rocks, her arms shot forward as she stomped her feet. Still, no result. The fire reflected off her glasses as her hands moved gracefully about her. The fire didn't even flicker. Mirabel pursed her lips as she looked at the marbles.
She didn't know any airbending moves. No one did. Her abuela had shown one off, one that Pedro had taught her. Of course, no one was able to use it, but it was pretty cool to watch and fun to do. Mirabel took in one last deep breath as she raised her hands. Her movements were fluid, natural even as she moved. As were all of her movements, she practiced all the elements of basic moves at least a million times, and she loved dancing. Bending was a lot like dancing, at least to her. Her hand was closed as she stopped in front of the marbles.
And they moved.
Her eyes widened as she stared at them. They. Moved. She looked at Casita's beams. They were still before something similar to a shrug revealed that Casuta wasn't even sure. Mirabel's arms shook as she once again performed the move. The moved again. They lifted off the table.
"Oh my gosh. Oh my gosh!" Mirabel felt a smile spread across her face as she picked the marbles up. She used her free hand to gently spin a circle around them. The air around them shifted, and they lifted out of her palm and into the air. "Oh my go-" Casita bumped into her feet cutting off. She silenced herself. It was late, that's right. Everyone was asleep, and she didn't want to wake anyone up, especially not little Antonio.
But she could bend! Finally, finally, after all these years. She was right, she was just a late bloomer!
"I have to practice," Mirabel whispered before grabbing the marbles and rushing up to her room. She giggled softly as she sat on her bed. She decided not to tell her family yet. She would wait until the next morning. In the meantime, she was going to practice and practice. Even if it took all night.
Mirabel spun the marbles around and around. It was just so...well she couldn't even describe it. But she was happy. More than happy. She couldn't describe it.
And she couldn't wait to tell her family in the morning.
-----
WHEN THE MARBLES❓
No but I did wanna do something like this. Mirabel bending air is so rad. And she's the only one aince her abuelo who could do it. Now whether Pedro was an Avatar or not is up for debate. If he was, it would make sense how he died, I mean Aang had mad folks after him so.
Idk what do y'all think

Que se fue del encanto..
Mirabel grabbed Antonio, hoisting him on her back before kicking open Luisa’s door and grabbing her hermana mayor by the hand and yanking her out of the room. In the hallway, the two, very confused, family members Luisa and Antonio could see Dolores wrestling Bruno out of a painting in the wall.
With the candle in a small lantern next to her.
“B-But what about the others?!” Bruno whined, falling to the floor as Dolores pulled him up and pulled him along, picking up the candle.
“What have they ever done for you? They’ve only belittled you, and the rest of us. No more Tio! I can’t watch and listen anymore, so I’m taking things into my own hands.” Dolores said as she followed her hija down the stairs to Casita front doors.
“D-Dolores? Mira? Tio Bruno—w-what’s going on?” Luisa frantically asked, taking note to Casitas rumbling tiles.
“We’re leaving. This family isn’t fit for us, we aren’t staying. You have obviously been overworked and used, and I’m not letting it continue. Mirabel has been ignored, I won’t let any of it happen to Antonio. And we’re taking Tio Bruno as well. No more.” Dolores said, ushering them out the door.
Dolores carefully opened the latern and took the candle out, setting it down in front of Casita, backing away for a moment. The house rumbled and rattled, bright glowing gold pouring itself from the house to the candle.
Once it was done, Dolores placed the candle back into the lantern, and pushed the others away from the now inanimate house.
“What happened to Casita?” Antonio asked.
“Casita is coming with us. The magic from it was transferred back into the candle, so Casita will be wherever we go.”
“But where are we going?” Bruno said, no longer fighting against the two girls who had sat onto a cart that had a donkey. With Dolores driving, the others in the back sat as the noticed that their bags had been loaded into the cart, full of what was mostly likely their clothes.
“Away from here,” Dolores sneered, not looking back at the house.
(Part written By @gamerbearmira)
Morning arose in Casita, there was no knocking on doors.. weird, Alma looked at the Window where the Candle should be, It wasn’t there.. “What, Where did the Candle go!?” She rushed outside her door to find 3 Dark doors and The Nursery left open. Antonio, Mirabel, Dolores and Luisa were gone. “what happend..”
Pepa wailed “My Babies!” Félix tried Reassuring her but nothing worked, Julieta And Agustin weren’t in any better state.
“Their Gone, My Sweet Sweet Youngest Babies..” Julieta Was Heartbroken, not only were her two youngest girls gone, Alma didn’t seem to even care.
Isabela was Horrified, She just lost her Gemela y Hermanas menor “What have i done..” Her eyes started watering.
Camilo was Searching around Frantically Hoping to find his Melliza, Hermana Mayor y Hermano Menor “DOLORES! ANTONIO, THIS ISN’T FUNNY!” Was this some sick joke?
With that The Madrigal Family were left with The worst reputation ever.

MILK DAY MILK DAY MILK DAY
Happy holiday, to all who celebrate! Thank you to @breannaaiedail and @missilestorm1 for coming up with this madness - and a happy birthday to @glitternightingale! You are all babes, and I can’t wait to see everyone’s creations. Here’s mine; time for some Bruno and Pepa shenanigans!
Tumblr media
“Bruno?”
Bang bang.
“Bruno!”
Bang bang bang.
“Hurry up in there!” Félix called. “I need my hair oils, bro! I can’t go out looking like this.”
Bruno groaned, pulling at the bags under his eyes. “Just a sec, Félix.”
Ugh; what was it about the lighting in bathrooms that made you look so…haggard? “Y’can’t get some ambient lighting in here, Casita?” Bruno grumbled, inspecting the crow’s feet growing at the corners of his eyes. Laugh lines, Julieta called them. Not that he’d done much laughing since the last time he’d had decent access to a mirror. Unless they’d formed in the last few months, since he’d been home? Like, maybe they’d got the jump on him?
“Ayo, Tio!” Camilo piped up, “there’s a line forming here!”
“There’s other bathrooms, Milo,” Bruno yelled, applying the last of the day cream he’d swiped from one of the girls’ bathrooms last week. It was the last remnants of a jar, Pepa wouldn’t miss it. But it didn’t seem to be working, anyway. He still looked every day of his fifty years, and then some. Maybe it only worked for light skin…?
“They’re all being used,” his sobrino said from the hallway; “all the girls are on the rag together –”
“Camilo.”
“What? I can’t say they’re on the rag? Can I say Aunt Flo’s visiting? They’ve got the decorators in? Shark Week? What? Anyway; no other bathrooms, so chop chop, Bruno.”
“Fine! Fine.” Bruno swung the door wide and stamped out, walking past every guy on Pepa’s side of the family, including a desperately scampering Antonio, who barged past his brother and Papi to get to the toilet first. “Knock yourselves out. Storytime in ten, Toñito! ‘member to clean your teeth, too.”
“’kaaaay!”
He’d tried everything he could think of. Chugging water constantly just resulted in him needing to pee every ten minutes. He’d tried being in the sun; being out of the sun; lotions and potions and eating whatever Juli put in front of him (until she found out what he was trying to heal and told him, as gently as she could, that her Gift wasn’t a fountain of youth). Cutting out caffeine? Don’t even think about it. He’d gone for half a morning and then gave in and was all the grumpier and more exhausted for the attempt. It was no use, Bruno just felt…old. Old and ugly. I mean, he’d never felt like a good-looking guy, but now…let’s just say ten years was a long time to not see your reflection in anything more than a banged-up silver tea tray.
Anyway. Family Weirdo Club time. At least the kids made him feel young again. Pepa’s Storytime Rule was that Antonio needed to read a few pages of a Non-Fiction book before Bruno and Mirabel read him a storybook, and so tonight, they were learning about the Ancient Egyptians.
“‘Cleeeeap….Cleop…Cl…’”
“Cleopatra,” Mirabel said, holding a hot water bottle to her belly. “It’s a big word, hombrecito, don’t worry about it.”
“Okay, Mira. ‘Clee-oh-patr-ah was a famous Eg…Egyptian Queen. She was also the most bee-you-tee-full woman in the whooole world, because she bathed in milk and honey –‘” Antonio scrunched up his face. “Milk and honey for a bath?! Gross!”
“Sounds like a pretty good drink, though,” Mirabel said with a wince. “Oof, maybe warm, with some cinnamon…owie.” Poor kiddo; her stomach must’ve been killing her.
Antonio beamed up at her. “Juanita can make you some milk!”
Juanita was a cow Antonio had adopted from a farmer in town; apparently, she wanted to see more of the Encanto than just the pasture she was born in. So Antonio had said; Bruno kinda just thought his nephew wanted a pet cow. Mamá had said she could only stay if she ‘pulled her weight’ – and so the entire Madrigal clan were enjoying a glut of cheese, cream, butter and milk, and Juanita got her very own paddock to grow fat in.
Hmmm…milk and honey...
“Tio?”
Bruno was lost in thought; teeth worrying at his bottom lip. I mean; it sounded dumb. But a lot of things did, when you broke them down. Like social situations. Or maths. I mean; it couldn’t be less effective than –
“Bruno!”
“Uhhyyyeeaah, um, uh-huh!” Bruno babbled, grabbing a storybook off Antonio’s shelves. “Yep, yup! Storytime. Don’t worry, kid; all under control. You go relax, heh.”
“If you’re sure…”
“Yeah, yeah, I’m sure. Okay! Toñito! Billy and the Pirates tonight, yeah? Go get comfy…”
About half an hour later, Bruno was standing on a chair in the kitchen, attempting to reach a jar of honey without knocking half the contents of Julieta’s larder to the floor. He’d done some pretty illogical things in his time, but he really didn’t know how to explain this one to the family if he got caught.
C’mon, c’mon c’mon c’mon…got it!
Bruno leapt down from the chair, honeypot and spoon in hand. He set both on the counter, took a generous spoonful, and decanted it into a tiny jar he’d found in his room. Screwing the lid shut, he licked the spoon clean, went into the cold larder Juli kept especially for Juanita’s exports and…
Cream. Cheese. Butter. Whey. Curds. Everything but milk. Mirabel must’ve used the last of their supply for her period-pain-remedy. “Seriously?” Bruno growled, letting the larder door swing shut as he spun dramatically, gesturing at no-one. “We own an entire cow, how can there be no –”
Out the kitchen window, he could see Juanita grazing peacefully in her paddock.
No.
No way.
He wasn’t that desperate. Surely, he didn’t feel so old and wrinkly that he would –
“Heeeeeeeeyy, Juanita,” Bruno cooed, ducking under the fence into her paddock. “Sooo, I need a favour.” Juanita regarded him with deadpan brown eyes. Bruno approached; hands splayed out in pacification. “You give me, like, two squirts of milk in this lil’ jar, and I get you…I-I dunno, what do cows want?”
Juanita was silent on the matter. She simply chewed her cud as Bruno retrieved the milking stool from her shelter, flicking her tail disdainfully.
“Okay, um. I-I’ll get you…carrots. Carrots! Cows love carrots, right? I know a guy. Girl. Isabela. Getcha all the carrots you…all the carrots you want.” At the sight of her milking stool, Juanita stood in place and let Bruno sidle up to her and sit down. He winced.
“Okay. I can do this. I can do this. How hard can it be? How hard can it…ay, sorry! Sorry Juanita, didn’t mean to pull that hard. Okay…just aim it at the – gross gross gross gross it’s all warm and bleeeeargh –”
Splish-splish.
He’d done it. He’d milked a cow! Look at him go! Bruno Madrigal: Practically A Farmer.
“Thanks, Juanita,” Bruno said, stirring the milk into the honey with his finger as he walked backwards out the pasture. “I owe ya. Let’s keep this between us though, ‘kay? They already think I’m crazy in that house. I mean; I am talking to a cow, I-I guess. But…yeah.” He stuck his finger in his mouth, pulling it out with a pop. Mirabel was right; milk and honey did taste good. He just hoped it worked miracles, too. “G’night!”
Juanita said nothing. Just another night at the Madrigal house. She didn’t even like carrots.
“Woah-ho-ho, Brunito!” Felix hooted as his cuñado sauntered down the stairs the next morning. “Looking good, bro!”
“Thanks,” Bruno preened, trying his hair up with a ribbon so he could show off his glow. “I’m aware.”
He laid with the stuff on his face for a good, oh, hour and a half after he went to bed – he clearly couldn’t take up a bathroom for that length of time, not in this house, so he used the milk/honey concoction like a face mask; reading his book and trying not to get strands of hair stuck in the sweet, sticky mess. Trying to keep the rats away had been…interesting. In the end, Bruno had locked them all in their playroom for the night, tossing in a few stale arepas to assuage his guilt. Then, he’d wiped the concoction off, slept like a baby for once and, when he awoke, had the softest, clearest skin he’d had in years. Even the bags under his eyes seemed to be receding; and that was after only one night!
It had worked. It had actually worked!
He swanned around the Encanto for the rest of the day – winking at people of all genders, occasionally patting his face and enjoying how soft it felt – until, just before dinner, Pepa lunged from the shadows and dragged him into the kitchen with a yelp.
“Spill. Now.”
“I don’t know,” Bruno said, tilting his head this way and that, “what you mean, sister dear.”
“Where has this confidence come from?” Pepa crossed her arms, a tiny thundercloud forming above her head. “I’ve never seen you like this.”
Bruno felt himself deflate, just a little. “I…I-I just feel nice today, that’s all. C-can’t I just feel nice?”
“Oh no; I’m not saying you don’t look nice. You look fantastic, it’s infuriating.” Pepa grabbed her brother by the ruana and yanked him close. “Bruno. The other day Señora Guzmán said my face had a lot of character.”
Bruno gasped. “Puta.”
“I will not be judged,” Pepa said through gritted teeth, “by a woman whose son was beaten in a fight by a plant.” She reached up and stroked Bruno’s cheek, eyes burning. “Tell me your secret.”
“…you are kidding me.”
A few hours later, Pepa leaned against the fenceposts as Bruno ducked into Juanita’s paddock.
“Pep,” Bruno said, spinning around and putting his feet on the bottom rung of the fence so he was at his sister’s height, cupping her face in his hands. “I love you. I think you’re beautiful just as you are. But if you want this –” he placed his palms under his jawline and posed, skin dewy even in the moonlight – “then y’gotta help me milk the stupid cow, alright?”
Pepa scowled. “…fiiiiiiine.”
Pepa ducked under the fence, making clucking noises with her tongue. “Heeeere, Juanita…that’s a good girl, come on…”
Juanita, however, had other ideas. Being harassed in the middle of the night by two humans with desperation in their eyes had not been part of the deal she’d broached with Antonio. She would not be tugged on and bullied, she just wouldn’t stand for it. And so, as soon as the scraggly-haired male human placed her milking stool at her side and sat down, she moved a few paces, just out of reach. And then again. And again. And then, when the red-haired female one tried to hold her by the halter, Juanita swung her huge head at her middle and knocked her flying. This cow was not in the mood to play two nights in a row.
“Pep, j-just grab her, alright?”
“I am trying, Bruno – if you think it’s so easy, you hold her steady, and I’ll milk her.”
“Fine!”
“Fine! Gimme that stupid stool…”
“’Psychosomatic,’”
read Camilo, straddling the dictionary across his legs.
“’Relating to the interaction of the mind and the body.’”
His prima wrestled the huge, leather tome away from him, flicking backwards to the ‘F’s.“‘Folie à deux,’” read Mirabel, her finger raised in the air in a way that reminded Camilo a little too much of their tio, “‘also known as shared psychosis or delusional disorder.’”
They both turned back to the bedroom window; watching as Camilo’s Mami chased a cow around the paddock just outside his window, while their Tio Bruno was basically dragged along the ground, holding onto her halter, yelling ‘think of y’complexion, Pep!’ as his sister stumbled over her skirts in a vain attempt to catch Juanita; a steadily growing wind blowing her hair back from her face, which was frozen in a mask of crazed determination.
“Told you he was being weird out there last night. Now he’s involved her in it, too.”
“At least he’s feeling more confident,” Mirabel offered, leaning on the windowsill. “He deserves that.”
“Yeah, but that gunk doesn’t work,” Camilo scoffed. “It’s all in his head. Frickin’ sunlight and good food’re doing more for his skin than some magic cure.”
“Do you want to go down there and tell them?”
“Pffbt; no.”
“Then we’re agreed; we stay up here, out of sight, and come up with a name for this…” Mirabel winced as Bruno faceplanted in the mud. At least, she hoped it was mud. “…spectacle.”
“Bruno!” Camilo’s Mami shrieked; a crack of lightning punctuating her panic. “Your face! Your beautiful face!”
“…Madrigal Madness?” Camilo offered. Mirabel grinned, offering her fist to be bumped in agreement.
“Madrigal Madness. Definitely.”

Encantober prompt 5 - pranks
December 28, 1934
Bruno crouched low next the wall looking through a butterfly cutout into the kitchen on either side of him a niece stood, no need to crouch, heads barely high enough to see through their own butterflies.
“Wait for it, wait for it,” he breathed, peering into the kitchen.
Agustin was inside, just finishing brewing a pot of coffee. He poured himself a cup and added a generous spoonful of sugar. Raising the cup to his mouth, he blew gingerly before taking a hearty sip.
Then he sprayed the surprisingly salty liquid all over Casita’s counter. She flipped her tiles in disgust.
Bruno and the girls crowed with laughter from their hiding spot. “Inocente!”
The girls scampered upstairs, still giggling, but Bruno, though also still giggling, hurried to the kitchen to help clean up the mess. He tossed Agustin a towel and retrieved the actual sugar from the hiding spot under the sink.
Agustin wiped his face and tie before cleaning the counter. “Honestly Bruno? I thought we might skip dia de los inocentes this year.”
“No way, Gus, as the reigning prank king I cannot skip my favorite holiday!” He grinned at his brother in law. “Don’t worry though, Julieta and Pepa are off limits.”
Julieta, now seven months pregnant and almost as big as she had been full term with Luisa, and Pepa, twice as big as she had ever been with Dolores and due any day, shuffled into the kitchen.
“We had better be, hermanito,” Julieta gave him a rare scowl. “I’m too tired for your shenanigans.”
Agustin quickly offered his hand to guide her into a chair. “You rest, amor, I was just going to check on Luisa, she’ll be waking up any moment.” He passed her a fresh cup of coffee before ducking out of the kitchen to head up to the nursery.
Julieta turned to her brother. “You got him, didn’t you?”
Bruno chuckled, passing a coffee to Pepa where she leaned on the counter. “I got him good! You know he’s my favorite inocente,” he smiled fondly.
Julieta sighed. “Did you really have to get the girls in on it though? They didn’t need to know how to prank someone.”
“Juli, it’s my sacred tio duty to pass on my knowledge to my sobrinas!” Bruno sounded offended that his sister would even suggest otherwise. “How else are they gonna learn?”
Pepa snickered into her coffee cup while Julieta rolled her eyes. “Whatever, Tio Brunito. Help me up, I need the bathroom again.” She held out her hands, and Bruno quickly stepped over to help her out of the chair.
After she left, Pepa sidled up to her brother. “Got any more pranks planned?”
“Not on you, Pep, I want this baby staying put until he or she is ready.” He patted her belly fondly.
She beamed. “This niño is just fine, I’m starting to think he or she has taken up permanent residence in there. But I actually had a proposal for you.”
“I'm intrigued.” Bruno helped Pepa in a chair then sat beside her. “What do you have in mind?”
“Well there’s one person you’ve never been able to prank.”
“Félix?”
Pepa nodded. “What if we teamed up? He doesn’t think I'm playing this year. He won’t see it coming.”
“Dirty pool, sis. I'm in.”
They began their plotting immediately.
After they were all set up, they hid, peering together through the slats of the closet door. Félix would be walking in at any moment.
“I’m impressed with you, Peps,” Bruno whispered.
Pepa wiggled with barely contained delight. “I used to pull pranks with you all the time, I don’t know why you’re so surprised!”
“Just didn’t know you still had it in you.” Her arm bumped him again as she rubbed her swollen belly. “You okay?”
“I’m fine, just a little sore. Been on my feet a lot with all this.”
Even in the darkness of the closet he could see her grimace. “Maybe we should go rest for a bit—”
“Sh, shh! He’s coming!” She clapped her hand at him.
They watched with bated breath as Félix made his way through the room, closer and closer to the set up.
A splash sounded in the silence.
“Pep?” Bruno breathed.
No response.
“Was this an elaborate set up to actually prank me by making me think you’re going into labor?”
No response.
“Pepa? Please say inocente?”
Pepa let out a wail as a contraction hit rather fiercely, Bruno yelped and threw open the closet door.
Félix spun around and absolutely shrieked.
Much later, after Camilo Pedro Castillo de Madrigal made his first appearance in the world, and the celebrations had died down, there was much debate about who exactly was the inocente that day, and what exactly counted as a prank.

Bruno never went into the walls, modern au.
Tia Elena saves the day this time,
@prophetic-hijinks thanks for the oc privileges I won't let you down.
Game day
"Are you and Tio bruno coming to my game tonight?" Isabela asked Elena as she braided Isabela's long hair.
"We wouldn't miss it for the world, and if it weren't for your sisters having to have surgery today you parents would be there too, and Pepa and Félix would be there if they didn't have parent teacher night at Camilo’s school and dolores is leaving for a competition in Bogota this weekend," Elena told the girl. Isabela was 13 and she knew that unless they couldn't her entire family would be at her volleyball game tonight. She hated that most if her family had to miss it, but she was happy her tia and tio, would be there.
"Do you think Mirabel’s and Luisa's surgeries will go OK?" Isabela asked.
Luisa had torn her ACL in a basketball accident, and Mirabel had to have her tonsils removed due to continual complications with infections.
"They'll be perfectly fine, I know the doctor that'll be doing mirabel's surgery, we went to high school together and from what I heard from her the surgeon fixing Lulu up, is her bestie from med school." Elena told Isabela as she packed her game day bag.
"Come on mi flor, we don't want you late to school," Elena told scooping isabela off the floor and throwing her over her shoulder.
"Ok tia," Isabela's laughs as she was sat down to grab her bags.
"Can we take the Jeep today?" Isabela asked, knowing her tia only drove her jeep for special occasions or trips to the city.
"Sure we can mija, but don't tell your tio, he'll get jealous that you got to ride in it," Elena told getting a good laugh out of isabela.
"Dolores? Are you ready to go mija?" Elena called
"Not yet, I just got my period I need a second," Dolores called from the bathroom.
"Ok," Elena said.
"Tia Elena, why haven't I got my period yet?" Isabela asked sadly.
"Well, from what your tio has told me your mamá got her period when she was about 12, so you should get it soon, but it could happen at any time, you could be fourteen when you start. It'll happen when your body is ready," Elena explained as the pair waited for Dolores.
"Ok," isabela nodded happy with her new information.
"Ok I'm good now," dolores said picking up her school bag and her suitcase, since she was going to be gone with her dance company for a weekend competition in Bogota.
The three walked outside and dolores started to head toward the van.
"Jeep today mija. Isabela wanted a ride before her game against Bogota today," Elena said
"Sweet," dolores said walking over and tossing her bags in the back.
Isabela followed suit and the pair hopped into the backseat. Elena climbed into the driver's seat, and off they went.
"Dolores, did you remember the note you need to give to the office about your dance teacher picking you up for competition?" Elena asked dolores
"Si, it's in my folder," Dolores said.
"You both have your phones?" Elena asked
"Si, tia," the pair said
"Dolores, did you grab some tampons before you left? Or do you need some pesos to buy some?" Elena asked
Dolores seemed to think for a moment,
"I need a few pesos to buy some. I had my bag packed already and didn't think about it," dolores said
"Alright mija, when we stop, I'll give you ten pesos," Elena said
"Gracias tia," dolores thanked
"No problem mija, us chicas gotta stick together," Elena said.
"Alright you two, go on, I'll see you tonight isa, good luck at competition Lola," Elena said handing back some money to dolores.
"Thanks tia, I'll see you Sunday" dolores said climbing out
"Thanks tia," Isabela said climbing out behind dolores as the pair grabbed their bags and walked into the middle school.
"C'mon isa we have to get to algebra," Dolores said as isa jogged to catch up with her as they met back up after their electives.
"I'm coming Lola," isa said.
During math, Dolores was called to the office to leave early, as expected. Leaving isa to get through the last half of math class, and survive history on her own.
Isabela hated history, not for the fact that it was boring, but her teacher, Mr Evans. He didn't like her at all, he would ridicule her clothes, give her a week of detention for whispering to Dolores to see her notes so she could copy down the bits she didn't get. And he loved Dolores, he'd compliment her clothes and hair, and wouldn't say a word if she ever whispered to isabela.
When she entered the classroom, Mr Evans asked the class as he took attendance,
"Has anyone seen Dolores today?"
"She left during math for a dance competition in Bogota this weekend," Isabela answered, Mr Evans gave her a glare but said
"Very well,"
Isabela had just about had enough of Mr Evans by the time class was almost over.
Just get out of here and meet up with Ava and Reina.
Isabela thought.
Finally the bell rang and she left the classroom as quickly as possible.
"Hey isa, what's up with you?" Reina asked as she saw the raven haired girl approaching them fast with a murderous look.
"Mr Evans is a inseguro egoista hijo de puta," isabela growled
"Bad day without Lola?" Ava asked
"Si, he not only decided that my outfit made me look fat, but he also didn't like that I was the only one in the class that knew where Lola was. And then he starts going on a whole rant about something stupid. At that point I was boiling so I didn't pay attention to him."
"Yep, he seriously needs to be fired, the first day of class he chooses his favorites and his targets, and his targets get the brunt of his frustrations with the class even if they're excellent students like you," Reina said.
"Anyway, before your blood can boil more, let's go practice some serves before tonight's game, we're up against some serious competition," Ava said.
"Spike it isa!" Ava yelled.
Isa watched as the ball came up and toward her, she jumped up and spiked it over the net, where ava who was practicing her pancakes, saved it.
"Nice one A," Isa said walking under the net to high five her friend and teammate.
"I could say the same for you Jacaranda," Ava said, since Isa had flower powers, Ava likes to call her by flower names, and honestly Isabela doesn't mind it.
"Come on girls, time to get some dinner before the game," Ava's mom called them
"Coming señora Perez" isa called.
Back at casita, Elena was getting ready with Bruno for the game. Pepa being Pepa, pestered them before having to get dressed for the parent teacher meeting later that evening.
"How was Lola this morning Elena?" Pepa asked sitting on a stool near Elena's vanity table
"She was fine, I did give her ten pesos though, she forgot to pack tampons in her dance bag and needed to get some when she got to Bogota. She started this morning before we left." Elena told
"Dios mio, she has a white costume for this competition." Pepa gasped placing her hands over her mouth.
"She told me she was gonna try to get her friend Maddie to swap costumes with her since Maddie had one of the black costumes for the dance." Elena said easing pepa's nerves,
"And even if she couldn't swap, she knows how to take care of herself so she doesn't leak," Elena said as she applied her mascara.
"You're right Lena," pepa said
"mierda," Elena breathed as she clutched her right side.
"You ok? Do you need juli?" Pepa asked, concerned.
"I'm fine, it's just a cramp, and... there's the blood," Elena cringes as she got up and scurried off to her and Bruno's shared bathroom.
"I know how you feel, I woke up covered in blood," Pepa said
Elena emerged from the bathroom in a emerald green rose and headed to her dresser to grab some clean underwear.
"Best investment ever, I swear Pepa, I'll have to pick some up for you and Juli when I go to Bogota again," Elena said
"What's so special about a pair of underwear?" Pepa asked
"They're period proof, they're called Knixwear, and for me, since sometimes I don't have time to change my tampons before they leak they've saved my butt a many a time. Plus the brand makes teen ones too, I'll have to get Dolores and isa some for their birthdays,"
"I definitely need some of those, I can't tell you how many times I've stained my underwear from a leaky tampon. How'd you find out about them? " Pepa asked
"Friend of mine, her daughter showed them to her because she found them while underwear shopping on Amazon. I looked into them and I've sworn to them ever since," Elena told as she emerged from the bathroom in just her black underwear and green bra.
"I bet the girls will appreciate them, Dolores surely will, she complains every time she gets a stain."
After forty five minutes of them talking it was nearing 6 and the game starts at 6 30.
"Come on brunito," Elena called as she stuffed a few tampons and pads into her purse.
"Coming amor," bruno said grabbing the keys to his truck.
When they got to the game, the teams were practicing before they started.
The game went back and forth in fierce competition, until they took a five minute break.
Isabela had her back turned to Elena and if Elena wasn't looking at isabela she wouldn't have noticed the red patch right under Isabela's rear, on her wite competition uniform.
Elena saw someone point the spot out on the court and isa bolted. Bruno turned to Elena after watching Isa bolt.
"Should we go check on her?" He asked
"I'll go, you stay here," Elena said
"Ok amor,"
Elena knew tossing a few pads in her bag would come in handy,
She went to the bathroom near the gym remembering isa seemed to be running that way.
"Isa, are you ok?" Elena asked as she entered, hearing quiet sniffles.
"No, I just got my first period in front of the whole school," isabela said
"Bela, it's barely noticeable," Elena said in attempt to comfort her.
"I can't play in bloody shorts tia, what am I gonna do?"
"I have a pad for you to use, and I brought your extra shorts with me since, you have a tendency to rip your shorts during a play, as your mama told me,"
"Really?" Isa asked hopeful
"Si mija, now get changed, they're getting ready to start again." Elena said
"But the other team saw the stain, what if I get teased for it?" Isabela asked second guessing going back out to play.
"Are you gonna let some comments stop you or are you gonna win this game for the mariposa volleyball team? You're unstoppable isa, I've seen you, don't let this little hurdle get in your way." Elena said as she passed isa the shorts and pad
"You're better than some girls who want to tease about something that happens to them too, embrace it, it's life. Now go show those girls what you're made of bela boo," Elena said as Isabela finally emerged with her bloodied shorts in hand.
"Thanks tia, you're the best ever!" Isa exclaimed giving her aunt a big hug.
When Elena returned to Bruno she filled him in on the goings on, and he texted julieta.
Julieta
Did isabela get hurt during her game?
No but something did happen
What happened Bruno
Isa got her first period
What?!!!
Don't worry Elena had her back, and she's currently kicking Bogota's butt.
I'm still at the hospital with mis niñas, will you take her out to celebrate after the game and ill celebrate with her over the weekend.
Course hermana, how are the girls doing?
Mirabel is sleeping, and Luisa is medically high as a kite because she's still coming off the anesthesia, but their surgeries went well, they took Mirabel first and when they wheeled her out after, I told Luisa to climb into the bed, and then after a four hour delay due to a car crash related emergency surgery, Luisa went under after mirabel’s anesthesia wore off really well, when they came to get Lu she and Mirabel were watching minions in their shared room.
Give mira a big hug for me for being such a brave niña, and when Luisa comes back to earth tell her I love her too
Ok hermano, I love you, the girls and I should be home tomorrow afternoon.
Ok
Bruno shoved his phone in his pocket as he watched isabela pancake to save the ball after a Bogota girl spiked it.
After the game Bruno and Elena took Isabela to celebrate her first period and that awesome save right at the end of the game.
"Great job mija, we need to head across town to the strip mall to get you some pads that aren't so long. And while we're there we can get you something to celebrate this huge milestone in your life," Elena told as she turned the key in the ignition hearing the truck roar to life.
"Can I get some stuff for my room?" Isabela asked
"Of course mija, what are you thinking," Elena asked
"Plants, some little shelf trinkets and maybe a new set of sheets," isa answered
When they arrived at the strip mall. They entered the large department store.
Elena explains which pads isa needs and places them in the shopping cart.
Bruno went to look at the toys nearby, wanting to buy Mirabel something for being so brave for her surgery. Elena and isabela had wandered over to the bedroom things. Picking up a couple plants as they went, they went to the bedding section choosing a nice leaf patterned bed set for isabela.
They paid for their things and left. To get some much needed sleep after Isabela's game and first period
The next morning isabela mostly stayed in her bedroom riddled with cramps she didn't even notice yesterday.
"How are you feeling Florecita?" Elena asked bringing isabela hot chocolate, with a seven year old camilo clinging to her back as she did so.
"Like I've got a cactus underneath me," isabela groaned from her position lying on her stomach. The back of her favourite pyjamas visible from under her blanket.
"I brought you some midol and hot chocolate mija, why don't you come to mine and your tio's room, we can talk and I can let you borrow my heating pad to help." Elena suggested trying to get isa out of her bedroom.
"Ok, can you get my pyjama pants from my desk por favor, I kicked them off last night, I got too hot."
Elena retrieved the Harry Potter themed pants, and turned around letting isabela pull the pants on. Isabela stepped up beside Elena when she had her pants on, and she supported her mug of cocoa.
"Camilo, can you go downstairs to breakfast with tio bruno, I hear tio bruno has made some special waffles just for you," Elena said getting the boy off her back letting him run downstairs.
"Now that it's just us, how are your first period cramps?" Elena asked as she guided isabela to her bedroom.
"My entire body hurts, and I feel like my stomach is tied in a knot." Isabela said
"Ooh, painful. I know how you feel, do you want anything to eat?" Elena asked
"Not really, Im not hungry," isabela answered
"You sound like me on my period, I lose my appetite for the first two or three days, then I eat everything on day four then by day five I'm back to normal. You may be different though," Elena said, a slight chuckle following.
"Tia? How do you know how to do all this?" Isa asked
"Do all what mija,"
"How do you know how to make me feel less weird and embarrassed about this, plus you cheer me up too, how do you do that?" Isa elaborated
"I volunteered at my old orphanage for years before I met your tio and moved here to settle down. Lots of the girls that were there trusted me the most and so I did a lot of talking to them and just picked up a few things from my experience with them," Elena explained, "have you got any more questions mija,"
"Do you have any stories from when you got your period?" Isabela asked.
Elena blushed this was gonna be a long funny and embarrassing afternoon.
When Julieta came home she was carrying mirabel, who was sleeping soundly on her shoulder. Luisa following behind on some crutches. Everyone seemed to be quiet. Camilo was watching cartoons with Bruno Agustín and Felix, Dolores was at a dance competition in Bogota, and Elena pepa and isabela were nowhere to be seen.
"I'm going to my room mama," luisa said.
"Ok amor, I'm going to find your sister and Tias" julieta told as she helped Luisa upstairs, with further assistance from their casita.
Julieta walked with Luisa so she could check Isabela's room, where she found an empty unmade bed.
She quickly laid Mirabel in the nursery on her bed before heading off to find Isabela.
She walked past pepa’s room and checked her brother's room first, where before she opened the door she heard Elena tell Isabela.
"Oh my God, I got my period at a pool once, a little piece of advice for you don't buy a white bikini, it always ends in disaster. Whether that disaster be your period, or the fact that when white gets wet, it's see through,"
A quiet knock and she could see her hermana cuñada and hija, sitting on the large bed laughing about Elena's myriad of period stories.
"Mind if I join you three?" Julieta asked announcing her presence.
"Mama!" Isabela smiled as she flung herself toward julieta, she was still small enough for julieta to pick her up with ease.
"Hola mi corazón, congratulations on your first period, how are you feeling?" Julieta asked as she sat on the bed with isabela in her lap.
"Better since tia Elena gave me the midol and told me her first period story and all of her embarrassing stories,"
"Good" julieta smiled
Hope you enjoy ❤
I hope I did Elena justice in this @prophetic-hijinks

What if Camilo refused to have a Gift ? (Ceremony arc)
A week prior to his ceremony, Camilo thought about the idea of having a Gift. He was happy, but also very worried.
When he walked to town with Félix and Mirabel for the groceries, the young boy could hear the whispers from people, betting on what Gift he could get, and others praying that he won’t end up like Bruno, since Camilo is the second Madrigal boy ending up having a Gift. that made the young boy extremely anxious because…
On one side, he would be like the rest of his family members, with his own magic.
But on the other hand, he would be burdened by the pressure his abuela made. Condemned to be one of the Encanto’s “slaves”.
He saw his mama was restraining her emotions and keeping saying “clear skies”, tia Julieta being tired from making foods for absurd injuries, his favorite tio being treated as a scapegoat for his visions, his primas being overworked and forced to fit perfect roles they might not want to have, and the silence of his hermana Dolores, forced to stay inside of her room when everything is too loud for her.
And above all, he saw how much pressure his Abuela and the Encanto put on his family.
Understanding the consequences, Camilo grimly looked at the Candle, making his decision.
A week later, it was the big day. Abuela, with Pepa and Félix beside her, was looking calmly at the curtain hiding his first nieto. The rest of the family was close to the stairs, hugging and smiling. She announced her speech, and the people clapped and cheered as the curtain opened. and revealed Camilo in all his glory.
Pepa was surprised to see a frown on his baby’s face instead of a joyful smile, but she brushed it off. Maybe he was a bit stressed. After all, there’s a lot of people for his ceremony.
Meanwhile, Camilo continued to walk as he nervously pulled the hem of his ruana. He knew what was supposed to happen. He was prepared. He was ready.
“Camilo.” Alma said when he stood in front of her, approaching the Candle between them. “Will you use your Gift to honor our miracle ? Will you serve this community and strengthen our home ?
Camilo’s lips trembled slightly, and instead of touching the Candle, he backed away and looked down. “No.”
Alma was shocked, as much as Félix and Pepa were surprised. People whispered in shock, afraid of having misheard. Did Camilo Madrigal, the first grandson of Alma Madrigal, the one who was excited to have a Gift, just say “No” ?
“What ?”  Alma asked, her tone a bit sharper but still shocked. “Camilo. Why don’t you want to use your Gift to protect the community ?”
Camilo shook his head, his face still facing the ground as he struggled to lift it, “No Abuela. It’s not that I don’t want to help others. It’s just…” Camilo took a deep breath and found enough courage to look at his Abuela with a soft glare. "I don't want a Gift."
He turned to the crowd, his glare more intense. "I don't want a Gift if this is to become like my mama, who has to force herself to be sad or happy. I don't want a Gift if this is to overwork for nothing like my tia and primas. And I don't want a Gift, if I have to be treated badly like my tio Bruno is !"
He barely said these words that something impossible happened : The door that belonged to Camilo evaporated away like dust, leaving only the banner hanging on the wall.
The party was canceled and Camilo was sent to the nursery, but not before receiving a cold glare from his abuela.
From now, his reputation was downfalling, even worse than Bruno’s. Whenever Camilo would go outside, there would be many whispers following him as he was considered as the "Ungrateful Madrigal".

To complete the trio of Madrigal men and their changes in appearance, I imagine Bruno having to cut his hair because of a bad joke from Camilo, remembering the experiences of Felix and Agustin and preparing for a similar reaction from Antonio. Nothing prepared him for Alma's reaction.
Come get ya'll angst ✨
Tumblr media
It felt childish, so utterly ridiculous: having to cut his hair because Camilo got gum in it. Bruno hadn't seen anyone do that since he was ten.
It was annoying, but it was only hair. It would grow back. Bruno certainly felt weird though. He hadn't had short hair since he was in his early teens.
"Think we're in for another freak out from the kids?" Félix asked with a laugh.
"Doubt it," Bruno said, running a hand through his new, much shorter hair. "Tonito's older than Luisa and Lola were when you two shaved."
He couldn't imagine Antonio wailing that he didn't know who Bruno was. Antonio wasn't a baby anymore.
Indeed, Antonio just said, "You look nice, Tio!" and left it at that, thank goodness.
His mamá however...
She froze in the doorway with a strangled gasp, her eyes wide and one hand on her heart.
"Mamá?" Bruno's voice sharpened with worry as he and his sisters jumped to their feet. She'd gone so pale, her eyes watered, she looked like she'd seen a ghost...
Oh. Oh no.
Much more self-conscious now, Bruno pulled his hood up.
"Sorry!" he said quickly. "I-I didn't- I mean, I didn't think, I...Um..."
Alma stepped forward and gently pushed the hood back down, holding Bruno's face in her hands. Her smile wobbled and Camilo looked like he was drowning in guilt.
"You look like your papá," Alma said softly. She patted his cheek and Bruno heard how her breath shook as she walked past him to the table.

For the coco x encanto. What if Dolores decides to plan on leaving to find her tia and tio in Mexico. She'll be an adult at some point so... she's biding her time till her parents cant force her to stay and finding a way to leave? What would happen after her 18th or 21st that pepa or Felix find her plans? Would they try and stop her or would felix see the damage they're causing. Especially if she's making plans for Camilos escape... if she can take him with her...
Oh man…
Ever since her Abuela and mamá started basically despising her, Dolores wanted to leave.
She started discussing the possibility of running away to Mexico with Mariano, wanting to take Camilo with her as well.
But their plans came to a halt when Antonio was born.
After that, Dolores was reduced to a nanny for her youngest brother, while Pepa, Félix and Camilo help the town. That didn’t mean she didn’t get blamed for everything by Abuela tho…
It was then that Dolores had enough. She had become her youngest brother’s mamá, Félix and Pepa only being parents to him when it suited them while ignoring her.
Dolores wanted to get out of here…
At 17, soon to be 18, she and Mariano finally set their plan into motion.
In the middle of the night, Dolores, having already packed her things, grabbed a 1 year old Antonio out of his crib, and went straight for the front door.
But she was stopped by an 11 year old Camilo…
He begged her not to leave him, crying that he needed her, and that he wanted to go with her and Tonito.
Dolores quickly explained that they’re going to leave Encanto, and that they may lose their gifts, but Camilo didn’t care. He just wanted to stay with his siblings.
So, the three remaining Madrigal grandchildren, including Mariano, left the Encanto, and started their journey to Mexico.
They traveled by cart, crossing the Colombian border to Panama, went through Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Honduras, but got lost when they were in Guatemala…
Antonio was crying, Camilo was exhausted, and Dolores and Mariano didn’t know were to go.
In the end, they found a tiny and secluded village were they could live without being questioned for lack of passports.
And so, the four became a family.
Dolores and Mariano married as soon as the latter turned 18, and raised Camilo and Antonio together. Tonito actually saw Mariano and Lola as his parents as he grew up, while seeing Camilo as his cool older brother.
In the end, the family of four was finally happy, free of toxicity and heavy expectations.
Though Dolores often wondered how her Tía Julieta and her family were doing…
