Analysis of Pyrefly Forest; Part 2 of Who Listens to Sunny?
Hey all! I've recently become pretty obsessed with focusing in on specific parts of Headspace to figure out what they represent, and as part of that, I really want to go over one of my favorite short and sweet segments of the game, Pyrefly Forest. I want to note that this post will almost read as a follow-up to my first post about Black Space, though I will cover the relevant parts of that analysis here, so don't feel pressured to go back and read that. I should also note that this analysis is going to dive fairly deep into personal interpretation at parts, and you may disagree with some of the conclusions I come to, which is very fair, because honestly, this analysis has me feeling a little delusional at times, but heck, it's all in good fun anyway when it comes to analyzing a game I love! Omori Spoilers Ahead!
Connection to Black Space
The first thing I want to get out of the way before really diving into the actual interpretation of the forest itself is it's connection to Black Space, and specifically the Spider Area. If you haven't read my previous analysis on this topic, the thing that is important to note from it is that the memory that Headspace Basil gets back in this area of Black Space is the memory of Sunny talking to him about his fears in regards to the Lake Incident, in which he almost drowned after a spider landed on his shoulder causing him to fall. Real world dialogue and scenes imply that Sunny didn't talk about these fears with the rest of his friends, as Hero doesn't realize that a spider is the reason that Sunny fell in the first place when the topic comes up, and neither Aubrey or Kel ever acknowledge Sunny's fears with regards to drowning or spiders in the relevant scenes.
Pyrefly Forest is home to one of the very few new picnic conversations that you can access upon completing the Hikikomori route. In it, Kel has Basil try and talk some sense into Hero with regards to Hero's fear of spiders, though it doesn't really work. What is relevant about this picnic conversation, though, is that the dialogue that Basil uses when talking about Hero's fear of spiders here is identical to what he says in the Spider Area (unique parts about Sunny's Lake Incident not withstanding).
In the picnic conversation:

Summary of Pyrefly Forest
As far as gameplay is concerned, Pyrefly Forest serves as the transitionary segment between the playground hub area of Headspace and the Sweetheart portion of the game. It highlights not just Sunny's own conquered fear of spiders, but Hero's unconquered fear of spiders as well.
Ignoring the side content, the main thing that you are doing here is completing the minecart track so you can ride that through the forest to get to Sweetheart's castle.
Pyrefly Forest's Real World Inspirations
Pyrefly Forest as a whole, as noted by the wiki, appears to be inspired by the day that the group went beetle catching in the photo album. One of the photos added to the album after the completion of the Hikikomori route even references this by copying one of the real photos, replacing the beetle Mari found with a spider. It's also interesting to note that this is the only new photo in the album post-Hikikomori route that is a copy of a photo from the real world album, rather than a completely new and unique image.
Tumblr media
I think it is interesting to note that Sunny appears to associate this memory with spiders specifically, rather than beetles. In fact, beetles don't appear at all within Headspace. You can even see in the photo album pictures that where in the real world, the focus was on Mari taking care of a beetle that surprised the group, Headspace puts the focus on Basil taking care of a spider that surprised the group, showing that Sunny may have relied on Basil to help him with his fears, especially when it comes to spiders.
One of the photo album images for this day has Basil noting that Sunny looks "sleepy" in the background of an image of Kel.
Tumblr media
I really wish I could see a clearer or more high definition version of this image, but to me, Sunny appears to be holding himself or a tree while staring up at something on another tree. All things considered, Basil may be misinterpreting Sunny being afraid of a spider as him being sleepy. This may have even led to Sunny opening up to Basil about his fear of spiders overall. We know that in the current day, Basil is able to tell that Sunny is scared during the bathroom scene, despite Sunny not really emoting fear when you look into the mirror during that scene.
Tumblr media
In addition, both picnics in Pyrefly Forest have tofu as their healing item, which as I've noted before, is a food associated with Basil. Obviously, within Headspace, the food is associated with the Sprout Moles, but I do think that it is interesting that tofu is used for these picnics, rather than in the Sprout Mole village picnic, or even somewhere within Sweetheart's Castle.
The Sidequests of Pyrefly Forest
There are three sidequests that the player has access to within Pyrefly Forest, and I think that all 3 are worth mentioning for different reasons, so I'd like to go through them separately.
Fascinating Literature
This sidequest is initiated by speaking to Demi at a bookshelf in one of the side areas that you need to go to get a rail segment.
Tumblr media
This sidequest of the three is the most up-front with it's interpretation. Basil and Sunny had a relationship in which, at the very least, Basil would recommend books for Sunny to read, while Sunny would read them. Demi even has a passing resemblance to Sunny, so I think it is pretty clear that this sidequest is referencing that aspect of Basil and Sunny's relationship.
A Good Listener
Right off the bat, we can tell that this quest is also related to Sunny and Basil, as it's title is directly lifted from how Basil describes Sunny in the photo album. It involves finding Candlie's missing teddy bear and returning it to her. The missing Teddy is found in the Fanmail Graveyard section of Sweetheart's Castle, and is acquired after a fight with it as a Rare Bear enemy.
It is easy to see the teddy bear as representative of Sunny, while Candlie represents Basil in this quest, considering the quest being about the teddy bear being a good listener to Candlie, but I think you could very well make a very different interpretation of this quest with everything else going on in this segment of the game.
The first thing to make note of here is that Sunny is the one associated with owning plushies, not Basil. In Sunny's backyard, in fact, he even owns a teddy bear that has been abandoned to the elements.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Keeping in mind the references to Sunny talking to Basil about his fear of spiders, this side quest could actually be representative of how Sunny would come to view Basil as a confidant as well. This is definitely delving into some deep personal interpretation/headcanony territory, but this could even represent how Sunny would deal with his own worries prior to when he began opening up to Basil, by venting it out to his stuffed animals, but the Lake Incident and the trauma associated with it was too much for that kind of thing to work, leading Sunny to open up about it to Basil. The fact that Teddy attacks you during this sidequest certainly could imply that Sunny doesn't exactly have a positive opinion of it. The fact that Teddy was lost could also reference the fact that Basil is lost within Headspace and you are trying to find him.
On the other hand, we could buy into the more obvious interpretation of Candlie representing Basil and Teddy representing Sunny here. The Teddy attacking you could just represent how Sunny does not have a positive opinion of himself or his actions. The fact that Candlie is a candle is also fairly specific for Pyrefly Forest, as lighting candles is what allows the player to avoid groups of spiders, possibly referencing how Basil would take care of and relocate spiders that Sunny was afraid of.
You also get a little cutscene of Candlie hugging Teddy when you bring him back. This is interesting, because it's one of the few times we actually see a hug represented through the sprites in the overworld (also seen with Omori & Mari, Hero & Mari, and Basil & Sunny), and it's applied to such a small little sidequest.
Tumblr media
You also get a rubber duck that doesn't like you as a reward. I'm not sure what that's supposed to represent.
Weeping Willow
So this quest is the one where you have to fill out a jokebook and have Hero tell jokes to the titular Weeping Willow to cheer her up (the jokes are too embarrassing for anyone else to say). When you finally can get her to laugh using the construction joke, she bestows upon you the "LOL Sword", which is a weapon that can be used by Hero and allows him to start the battle happy.
The LOL Sword is a very unique weapon for Hero. All of his other weapons take the form of kitchen tools, while this one is an actual weapon. In addition, the way that this weapon works allows Hero to start the battle Happy, even against enemies that would usually set Hero in a state of fear. This would seem to imply that the way Hero deals with his fear of spiders is distracting himself through humor, though we don't see this in-game when a spider is encountered in the real world.
I think that an interesting idea here is that humor is how Sunny may have dealt with his own fears, prior to the Incident. Obviously, the way his fears manifest in the current day is a bit more extreme than they likely manifested themselves as prior to the Incident, but they still existed following when he almost drowned in the lake pre-canon. In the Lost Library memory for the construction of the treehouse, Sunny appears to make special note of how much time has passed since Mari has climbed down her ladder, perhaps indicating that Sunny is not willing to climb up the ladder himself at this point in time, due to his fear of heights. If you buy into the idea that Sunny opened up about his fears to Basil, I think it could become easy to imagine Basil doing things like telling jokes to Sunny as he climbed the ladder to the treehouse to distract him from his fear of heights, which would have been enough at that point in time, even if it didn't end up being a permanent solution. And if you buy into this interpretation and want to dive into delusion with me even further, the fact that the joke book is too embarrassing for anyone except Hero to read could represent that Sunny was too embarrassed by his fears to open up about them to the others. The fact that it has to be Hero specifically is relevant, as Hero himself doesn't really have any shame in expressing his fear of spiders.
One last thing to mention here is that originally, one of the books that Sunny would own in the Hikikomori route was titled "Weeping Willow", which would have tied back into Basil and Sunny's reading interest, and a weeping willow is a type of tree, which has some pretty specific connotations in OMORI.
Lost Forest
The final thing that I feel is relevant to note about this area is the connection to the Lost Forest. Overall, the Lost Forest portion of the game is more to set the player up for the existence of a Truth that has been forgotten, as it wasn't really mentioned during the previous night in Headspace. Since I'm focusing more on Basil right now, I won't go too in-depth on this very interesting area, but there are some notable things that you can see and find. You are able to find a "Pearl" item on the dock in area 3 of the Lost Forest, which could be seen as representing the gang's hideout, as well as this being the only time Pearls appear in the game outside of Sweetheart's Castle, which is a location that I've noted before as being fairly connected to Sunny and Basil's relationship.
Stranger appears at the beginning of the area, then appears again alongside an apparition of Basil in the fifth area of the Lost Forest before disappearing. There is also a hanging Mari from the Fishbowl Area of Black Space that Appears in the final room as a WTF Event. I find this interesting, as that area of Black Space heavily focuses on Sunny and Basil's relationship. The OST for that area is White Pillars (also the 143rd song on the soundtrack), which has so many different things that it could refer to. One interpretation that I like is that the "White Pillars" that the song refers to are the hanging Maris that appear within that area of Black Space, as well as here. The metaphorical "White Pillars" that has allowed Sunny to force himself to forget and live in delusion all goes back to Basil's lie. Sunny wouldn't be able to live within Headspace and forget his crimes if everyone knew about them. The presence of a hanging Mari from the Fishbowl Area here, of all places, plays into that interpretation, as this is the room where Daddy Longlegs discusses the creation and purpose of Headspace. It makes sense for a reference to that to appear here.
Tumblr media
Conclusion
Like I said at the beginning of this post, a lot of my analysis of this area goes back to personal interpretation, and even I can see that there are parts where I'm stretching a bit, but I do think that at the very least, the sidequests and other details of this area allow you to build a solid reading on this portion of the game being about Sunny and Basil's relationship, which will be expanded on right after with Sweetheart's Castle.
The fact that both "Interesting Literature" and "A Good Listener" are both accessed through areas that you only have to go to due to the rails needing repaired could even represent how Headspace itself is breaking down and that to repair it and continue or break the delusion, Sunny has to expose himself to reminders of his relationship with Basil.
Also: something that I didn't mention in my previous post on this topic. While I do believe that Sunny did come to see Basil as someone he could open up to, I don't think that Sunny ever would have told him about his worries with the violin. Basil is the one that had the idea for the violin in the first place, and I don't think Sunny would bring it up to him due to his known drive to avoid disappointing his friends. I think that that actually adds to OMORI's tragedy: the two people that Sunny could open up to about things were the two people that Sunny would see as being most disappointed in him for wanting to quit, eventually leading to the incident.

ok i really appreciatw the in-depth analysis bylers do but i need people to know that teal and orange is a VERY common colour combination and film, so sometimes the blue and yellow in stranger things is.. just that…
like in terms of costume and set choices i don’t think it’s delusional to read into the blue and yellow themes, but in this post-st4 draught i’ve been seeing some posts drawing attention to things that are definitely not intentional😭 it’s ok tho it’s not our fault we’re becoming delusional, we just need to be FED

Hi! I don't remember if there was such a question / answer but what kind of foreplay does each members ateez have before sex, how will everything begin and what could be the reason / atmosphere for this?)
I finally have the time to answer this question IN detail because a few members are similar to each other and others are quite different.
Disclaimer: This analysis is for delusional purposes only and is entirely theoretical and based on astrology.
Ateez Members And Foreplay:
Kim Hongjoong:
His Scorpio Venus/Virgo Mars means he LOVES foreplay and he has high stamina so he likes to take his time and show you his love.
The Scorpio stellium means his FEELINGS have such a huge impact on how everything begins, there will be times where he's desperate and just yearns for your touch.
'I can't hold back tonight angel, I need you right now'
And there will be times where he's in the mood to tease and taunt, edging you with his fingers and tongue, enjoying your brow sweat and thighs tighten- the power he would feel.
'Uh-uh, if you keep talking to me like that- then neither of us will be happy tonight'.
Park Seonghwa:
Aquarius Venus/Aries Mars = what is foreplay?
Seonghwa's sex drive is THROUGH THE ROOF (one of the highest in the group) and so he's just ready to go all the time and in any place.
You're on the couch watching Netflix and a sex scene comes on?
He'll bend you over the couch and take you right there and then.
You're wearing his favourite pair of stockings and heels?
He will fuck you in those pair of heels, regardless of whether you're in public or in the privacy of your own home.
So foreplay most of the time will be hasty because the end game is you.
Jeong Yunho:
Soft, sweet...until he's bored.
Yunho and his Taurus Venus/Scorpio Mars- like Hongjoong has a fluctuating sex drive and it would depend on the energy of the moment.
If you're in a CNC scene (which I have mentioned is a strong kink of Yunho) then foreplay will involve picking you up, pinning you down, holding your body to him and using you as he pleases.
'Just let me have you now princess and I'll take care of you later'
But- if he's in a playful and light-hearted mood...then foreplay will just be cute kisses, soft hands down your body, light teasing and muffled giggles.
'What? I just love kissing you princess, your moans and giggles are so cute, I could listen to them all day'.
Kang Yeosang:
Yeosang's Leo Venus and Libra Mars indicates a high sex drive but slow momentum so his form of foreplay could be such a tiny action at first- a kiss on your cheek...brushing your hair away from your face.
And then the more eager he becomes, the more dominant his actions become and he'll pull you on top of him, groping your arse and voice deepening, his grip tightening.
His Libra Mars indicates cowgirl or any position where you're on top is what he loves- not because he's submissive but because he loves seeing your tits bounce in his face and sweat beading down your neck.
'My precious doll, you're such a cute angel for me, you're beautiful, you're gorgeous...I don't know what else to say'...
Choi San:
San and his Leo Venus/Scorpio Mars means there is no reason for him to have sex, if he gets an urge or you have an urge- then that's enough for him to get hot and heavy and crave you under him.
With his Gemini Moon however...BANTER!!! If you're in a public area..he might just whisper in your ear or send you a sneaky text message so you're all pent-up and needy when you're alone with him.
'I was just talking to someone else and all I could think about was how much I wanted to rip that dress off and bury my head between your legs.'
Song Mingi:
Is the type to wait for you to make the first move but would hint and give off little whines and whimpers when he's feeling needy.
Imagine him rolling his hips against yours when he's spooning you in the dead of night or pulling your body towards him and holding him against you with his large, broad hands.
His Virgo Venus in retrograde makes him prone to anxiety and over-thinking in times of intimacy and he has a Cancer Mercury so imagine less degradation and more mewling.
'You feel so good baby ple-eeease...can I? I won't be long...you're just so warm and soft and I'll do all the work, I just want to feel you right now'
Jung Wooyoung:
Have you met Wooyoung? His Sagittarius Sun and Scorpio Mercury means he'd be so matter of fact with foreplay- it could come across as crude and shocking at times because he would be so matter of fact.
He would be nestled against you on the couch and gently rubbing your back as you're watching Netflix, his hands becoming more suggestive and grabby.
'I'm boooored- let's fuck right now, I'll even eat you out first because I want something fun to do'.
Choi Jongho:
Jongho is always difficult for me to explore in a verbal manner because I feel a lot of his communication and preference would be non-verbal and based on pure intuition.
His observant behaviour would easily notice your slumped demeanour if you've had a hard day at work or life is a struggle right now.
Would carry you bridal style to the bedroom and gaze at you lovingly, his touches soft and sweet, his treatment of you as light as a feather.
'Honey, let me help you forget about your day, just let go for me and I'll make it all better for you'.

Analysis on YANDERE PLATONIC TAS Batman Villains. Pt 1.
THIS IS NOT THE NEW ANIMATED SERIES. Strictly ONLY The Animated Series.
Villains:
MR. FREEZE
RIDDLER
CLAYFACE
POISON IVY
MAD HATTER
CATWOMAN
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
What I am using as the archtypes: https://www.tumblr.com/helpfandom/724022554446135296/types-of-yandere?source=share YANDERE_AUXILLARY made it!!!!
I find it so curious that people neglect Platonic as a yandere version, {not to say that I am a pioneer, no no no, but rather that people don't write about it as much as romantic.} And so, here is my analysis on various TAS Batman Villains. Of course, this is part one, as there are many TAS villains. I just need to get to them.
Also, side note. Thank you TAS writers for already making Mad Hatter a yandere so now I have less work to do.
Mr Freeze: Now, he is the yandere type of Obsessive, Overprotective, Clingy. He found something else to focus on, and it happened to be you. Reader would be more of the friendly type, more outgoing for Mr. Freeze to have such an obsession with them. He wouldn't stalk you as much, more so just an immediate kidnap the next time he sees you. Most likely catalyst for his yandere swap would be dealing with the loss of his wife. He lost his wife. He won't lose his kid too. Maybe Reader was there to help, or maybe he saw his wife in you. No matter what it was, as soon as there is an obsession, he wants to keep you. You're screwed as soon as it began. He's overprotective, constantly hovering over you. "I've lost too much. I won't lose the last thing of my wife, too!"
Riddler: Hmm... His yandere archetypes for platonic is... Possessive, Delusional, Sadistic, and Self-Indulgent. His egotistical personality, tied with an obsession with a kid who is unafraid to throw hostility back? Not a good pair for Gotham. In his mind, to not be afraid of him, or to throw hostility back at him, must mean that you like him. And with his intelligence, how could you not? His catalyst, well, there isn't really a catalyst per say, more so he was already obsessed with beating Batman and being intelligent, so why wouldn't he be obsessed with someone who can challenge him? He's more of a stalker type, only kidnapping when Batman and Robin get a little too close to you for his comfort. You're just like a little him, well you have to be taught by the best, most intelligent, and that's him. "Well well, my dear child. You seem to have escaped, but I'm sure you know that you won't be out for long..."
Clayface: He is... Clingy, Manipulative, Impulsive, and slightly Sadistic. He would be obsessed likely with a theatre kid, or someone who enjoys the fine arts {So an Art Kid, Band Kid, Choir Kid, etc.} He would see that and miss the days when he could do that, when he could act or enjoy the arts. Because he can transform his shape into anybody, he transforms himself into people close to you, of course he stalks them ahead of time so that he can properly assume their character, but he quickly kills them off so he can assume that role in your life. If it was a friend who had a crush on you, he enjoys watching the life leave their eyes. How dare they try to ruin your potential with their desires? He uses someone in a position of power, too. Likely a teacher, or if you have a director? Boom, suddenly you have the main role, or a solo, or you won the first place in an art competition. Who knows what kind of a catalyst would be there, all I can tell you is that BOOM! You're being kidnapped by someone you trusted deeply. You watch your former mentor's skin droop off of this, this person, who's kidnapping you, revealing a rocky, clay texture. Clayface. "Heya kid, you already slipped up and called your teacher Dad, so I know you can for me too. Here, would looking like them help?"
Poison Ivy: Her yandere archetypes are Overprotective, Clingy, and attempts to be Manipulative. Delusional, but yet Lucid; She has delusions about Reader, but not in the 'ah, yes. Reader loves me too.' She would be a little apprehensive at an uncaring Reader, after all, if you're not for plants, you must be against plants. For an uncaring Reader to work, Reader must be a plant lover. Poison Ivy would see this, and suddenly everything makes sense. She assumes that Reader puts up a fake persona so that Reader can care for plants in their free time, so that no one knows that Reader loves plants. She loves that about Reader, and that's why she gets obsessed. She wants to keep the only other plant lover in Gotham and protect them against the cold, cruel world. She would originally try a sporeling, but she misses the real you so that plan fails and that's why she would kidnap you. "Come here my Rosebud, the world is cruel. Let me be your mother, like Mother Earth."
Mad Hatter: His characteristics are Delusional, Self-Indulgent, Overprotective, and Clingy. Who truly knows why he started to care for you? Perhaps you reminded him of someone a little too much... Nevertheless, not what we are here to focus on. He would not be a stalkerish type, but he would delude himself into believing you love him like a father. He would not be afraid to use his mind control on you. As soon as he manages to get you under his control, you're screwed. You're gone from Gotham forever. He has been shown to be willing to do it before, with Alice. I think he would be willing to do it until he gets you to the safe house which looks a lot like one of the sets for Alice in Wonderland... He would be overprotective, scared that Batman would take away his kid, take away the few things in life he loves. "NO NO NO! Batman simply cannot take away my child too!"
Catwoman: She is Clingy, Manipulative, Impulsive. She has been shown to be someone with a ton of money, {Paying $10,000 dollars for a charity that she loves, a lot of money, period, but also for 1992} So I feel that she would be willing to use that against her kiddo, saying that it's okay for Reader to use her money, and then guilt tripping Reader {who, realistically, wouldn't give a shit, but I digress.} Into staying with her to pay off the debt. Her clingy and Impulsiveness is because of when she was involuntarily transformed into an animal, some things stayed the same, and now that she found her cub? Even Batman can't fight a wild animal for her kid. "Lioncub, why are you worried? Mommy's got enough money for the both of us."

Accusing people, some of whom incidentally are likely LGBT themselves, of not viewing wol///fstar as canon because they "can't read queer-coding" is the cope of the century and borders on delusional. it's also condescending and disrespectful- why is your personal analysis of a work of fiction more valid than anyone else's, particularly when that analysis is almost certainly driven by confirmation bias? Have you asked yourself whether the "signs" you think you're reading in the text are actually there or whether you just want them to be? It's fine to want them to be and to add two and two and get six, personally I've done that with many works of fiction and I will continue to do so, but objectively there's no evidence that holds up to the slightest bit of scrutiny that jkr actually intended Sirius and Remus to secretly be in love.
Leaving aside the fact for now that this is JKR we're talking about and all that entails, it honestly verges on conspiracy-brained at times. Besides that, using homophobic stereotypes as "evidence" is, to put it plainly, shit. Some of these stereotypes might seem fairly innocuous yet still manage to be offensive (e.g. "tonks is queer-coded because she has short hair/is cool/has this personality trait or physical characteristic) but others honestly cross a line. Think for a moment about the logical leap you're making when you claim that werewolves being an allegory for stigmatised illnesses like AIDS is proof that R is gay. What equivalence is being drawn here? worth thinking about
I just want to say this is a work of children's literature and we're all free to interpret whatever we want and make up whatever silly things that we want with it. But you're not smarter or more special than anyone else because you think there's a gay way to look or speak or act, or for seriously believing that JKR created some kind of mad convoluted mental backflip conspiracy to specifically fuck with what was at the time a fringe element of online fandom that she likely wasn't even aware of. Apply Occam's razor here and go with the simplest explanation, which is that JKR, a heterosexual woman, wrote a children's book in the 90s with a majority heterosexual pairings and one token gay character. From there, do whatever you want. The end

Reiner Braun General Yandere Profile
Requested privately on Tumblr.
Reiner is my favorite Attack on Titan character, so this was fun to write.
WARNINGS: NSFW portion, spoilers
Aware, Delusional, or Denialistic?
Is he aware of what he is doing or is he delusional/in denial?
Reiner is aware. I would say delusional, because he can be a little, but he knows what he’s doing is wrong. He cries over the guilt of what he’s doing on a regular basis, especially if it hurts you. He wants nothing more than for you to be happy, but he’s also very selfish.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Obsessive or Possessive?
Does he care more about you or about owning you?
Reiner is obsessive- he cares about you so, so, so much. He cares so much that it hurts. He does want you to be his, desperately, but he cares a lot about your comfort and happiness. It’s a struggle between wanting you and wanting your happiness.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
General Behavior Analysis:
How does he generally behave around you?
Reiner is a big brother figure in a sense. He’s protective, defending you from anyone that hurts you and from titans. If you’re an “island devil”, he wants to protect you from titan shifters too. He enjoys making you laugh and seeing you smile, so he often jokes around with you. He’s softer with you, finally happy for once in his tragic life.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Utilize or Avoid kidnapping?
Does he prefer kidnapping you or does he prefer finding other methods to obtain you?
Reiner wants desperately to have a normal relationship with you, but he’ll probably resort to kidnapping. His life is dangerous, deadly. He doesn't have a choice.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Spiral Analysis:
Does he spiral out of control quickly or is he able to hold on to his humanity for a long time before he snaps?
Reiner spirals quickly. He definitely has attachment issues, so the minute someone shows him some understanding and kindness, he latches on to them. That’s bad news for you, because it makes him snap pretty quickly. After all, the world is a dangerous place.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Restrain, Threaten, or Barricade?
Does he resort to restraining you, threatening you, or locking down the building/room to keep you kidnapped?
Reiner locks down the room to keep you there. He would never threaten you, he loves you too much for that. And he knows you’d be miserable if you were restrained. He wants you as happy as possible, although you can never leave.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Escape Attempt Analysis:
How he would react to a successful or failed escape attempt.
He’d be heartbroken! Sobbing into your neck with his arms wrapped tightly around you as soon as he got ahold of you again. He knows you’re not happy here, but he needs you.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Manipulate or Overpower?
How easy would it be to overpower or manipulate him in order to escape?
Overpowering is impossible, I mean, he’s the armored titan and very strong in human form. Manipulation is a possibility, however. Reiner’s mental state is not very good, so if you can take advantage of his guilt and past trauma, you might be able to escape. But you’ll probably feel very bad about doing it.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lenient or Strict?
How long is the chain (metaphorical or not) that he keeps you on?
Reiner lets you do whatever you want in the room he keeps you in. He wants your happiness, so he tries to buy you things that will make you happy. He’s not rich by any means, but we’ve seen how he likes to spoil the ones he cares about, so he’d definitely try to spoil you.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rule and Punishment Analysis:
What kind of rules he has and what punishments you receive for breaking them.
Reiner doesn’t punish and he doesn’t set any rules. If you try to escape or say something hurtful, he’ll just feel like he deserves it.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rival Elimination Analysis:
How he deals with rivals and potential elimination methods.
Reiner doesn’t deal with rivals out of jealousy, but only out of fear for your safety. For instance, if you have a bully. He’d feel very little guilt about killing them because he’s saving you. But sometimes, all they need is a little intimidation, since Reiner’s a big, muscular guy with titan powers.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Anger Analysis:
How easily he angers, how that anger looks, and how to calm him down.
Reiner doesn’t get angry at you, but he does get angry at people who threaten your safety, physically or emotionally. For example, if you’re Marleyan, Porco can be a real jerk to you, so Reiner’s easily angered by him. He sometimes picks a fight, but normally he stews in his silent rage. He’s calmed down only by you.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Above, Beneath, or Equal?
How does he view you: as something to worship, to own, or just as another human being?
Reiner is a worshiper. To him, you’re a perfect being, one that he’s lucky enough to just be near. He looks to you for comfort and affection and he feels like you’re the only person in the world who could ever make him happy that way.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Requite or Reject?
How does he react to you accepting or rejecting his love?
He feels like he deserves rejection, but it fuels his desire to kidnap you. After all, how can he protect you when you don’t love him? A weak argument, but he needs an excuse. Accepting however? He’s over the moon. Now you can be a happy, normal couple.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Determination Analysis:
The level of determination to get you to requite or accept his feelings.
Like I said, Reiner feels like he deserves a rejection. I think, if he kidnaps you, he’d try to treat you right and secretly wish that you’d just love him back, make things easier for the both of you, but he wouldn’t pursue that specifically too much. He doesn’t deserve your love.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
NSFW
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dominant or Submissive?
Are they dominant, submissive, or a switch?
Dominant. He doesn’t mind being on the bottom, but he can’t help but take control even in that situation. He just loves the feeling of your tightness so much that he can’t help but pound into you.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Favorite Position?
Favorite sex position.
I think he’d like missionary because he can hold your hand and stare into your eyes. If he gets teary-eyed, like he sometimes does during sex with you, he can bury his face in your neck. He also likes doggy style though.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kinks?
Their favorite kinks.
I could picture Reiner maybe having a mommy kink, but he definitely has a size kink. You’re just so small or fragile compared to him!
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Favorite body part?
Their favorite body part on you.
Reiner’s an ass kind of guy, as we kind of saw with the female titan. He loves to grope your ass and watch it jiggle as you walk around.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Giver or Receiver?
Do they prefer giving or receiving pleasure?
Giving. I mean, don’t get him wrong, he loves when you suck him off, but that’s only if you’re doing it by your own choice. Otherwise, he loves to eat you out, especially when you sit on his face.

i recently finished the legacy of yangchen and i DO think you should become a yangchen blog, i think i should become a yangchen blog, everyone should become a yangchen blog…. you’ve said you really like kavik & kalyaan and i would be so pleased to hear any thoughts/analysis you had about them. legacy of yangchen important because insane younger sibling disease. o<-<
RIGHT!!!! everyone please read the yangchen novels in time for yangvik week it will literally take you like 2 days to read they are so short and readable and compelling and good. this has been a PSA.
anyway kavik & kalyaan are just so completely insane i am obsessed with them. like i was already compelled by them in the first book when it’s revealed that kavik considers himself responsible for the loss of kalyaan’s fingers for no other reason that the fact that he might have been insufficient in his prayer to the spirits for protection during their hunt. like, first of all, why would he assume that he’s the one who fucked up if the “spirits decided to punish” kalyaan. shouldn’t the logical assumption be that kalyaan was the one who angered the spirits? shouldn’t kavik be all about logic, seeing as he’s some kind of math prodigy?
no, because kavik is wholly unreasonable, irrational, and otherwise fragile when it comes to his brother. he truly believes with every fiber of his being that kalyaan is his ontological superior, and thus, every bad thing that kalyaan brings upon himself by being a bad person, is somehow kavik’s fault. kavik would sell out the avatar for the opportunity to protect kalyaan, because that is how much he values his duty to his family, how much he values the strength of their brotherhood.
and kalyaan, for his part, is an asshole to kavik. an asshole in general, but especially to kavik. he is constantly dismissing, undermining, and reducing him to some kind of irrelevant, childish fool. kavik genuinely considers himself to be lesser, mediocre and insignificant because he has so deeply internalized kalyaan’s rhetoric that he is. it’s why the shifting pov between yangchen and kavik is so necessary, because through kavik’s eyes only, we would not understand just how remarkably skilled and special he is, but through yangchen’s eyes only, we wouldn’t understand why kavik has this massive fucking inferiority complex.
but, and this is crucial, their relationship is also not a straightforward abuser/abused dynamic either. despite the fact that kalyaan is genuinely emotionally abusive towards kavik, he’s not fostering kavik’s dependency complex for shits and giggles. they are, in fact, completely codependent. their obsession is mutual, their completely irrational devotion reciprocal.
somehow, kavik knows this to be true. if the chapters had been ordered differently, his claim that kalyaan’s only weakness is him might be read as delusional, a complete fantasy, a projected desire. after all, kavik would certainly want that to be true, but we’re never given any indication that kalyaan so much as values him, let alone truly loves him. but he does. kavik is right. his perfect, unyielding trickster god of a brother will, in fact, shatter at the sight of kavik in pain.
kavik knows this, but we, as readers, do not until it happens, and it completely reshapes our entire notion of their relationship thus far. when kalyaan “manipulates” kavik into prioritizing his family over yangchen, it's not simply a matter of kalyaan exploiting kavik's dependency complex to save his own skin; it's something he truly believes. and kavik knows that if their roles were reversed, kalyaan would do the same for him.
so it's not that kavik isn't uniquely emotionally fragile and compromised when it comes to kayaan, because he most certainly is. but kalyaan is also uniquely emotionally fragile and compromised when it comes to kavik. and the shock of that revelation, in the scene where it's revealed to us that not only is kalyaan equally devoted to kavik as kavik is to him, but also that kavik is equally capable of exploiting that devotion to suit his own ends, has honestly yet to wear off.
i read the legacy of yangchen around the time it came out, last summer, and i still find myself surprised by just how much it captivated me, just how compelling i found these characters and their dynamics (but just the characters, also the worldbuilding, especially as they expanded on the sinister role of the white lotus, the culture of the air nomads, the complex politics within the earth kingdom, etc etc). as someone who already has an established weakness for toxic codependent water tribe siblings, kavik and kalyaan are by the far the craziest it gets. their deeply unhealthy bond as it shapes their respective egos in turn is genuinely fascinating. [sickos laughing meme] i love them.

So I might be speculating something a bit or being a bit delusional about WR
But
Does anyone remember how the curious cat says a riddle regarding getting to the tree and it’s goes like “it’s not a place you go, it’s a place you know” and how some don’t seem to realize that the answer to the riddle is home
Home is not a place you go, it’s a place you know
It’s a place you return to when you are lost or hurt, a place you seek comfort and answers in, a place of belonging and of purpose
Now why is this relevant to WR… well, something I noticed in V9 is how there seems to be a lot of visual storytelling (or however you want to call it) like how in episode 7, the dam near the Paper pleasers village breaks to tell you that Ruby dam on her emotions has broken or episode 2, when Ruby tries to comfort Weiss when Weiss tries to talk to her
Ruby holds little in front of her, offering Weiss what LITTLE hope/strength she has left
Why do I bring this up
In episode 9 (and this where you can see I get a bit delusional) after WBY+J arrive at the tree and most importantly branchby
We get this scene where Blake, Yang, and Jaune are in the light while Weiss and Juniper are in the shadows
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now how does this relate to my stuff about home… simple
The people in the light are one’s who have a sense of purpose and balance/are at home, while the characters in the shadows are one’s who are out of balance and lost/their home is missing
The Bees find purpose through their love for each other and are at balanced with each other/they are at home with each other
Jaune finds purpose through his friends/found family and at balance when he is with them/he is at home with friends/found family
Now for the characters in the shadows
Juniper will no longer have any purpose once Jaune leaves as they will no longer be needed/anything to do, they no longer are balanced as they lack someone to truly be with as a partner, and they no longer have any place to really call home
As for Weiss
The reason Weiss no longer has a sense of purpose or is no longer balanced or is not at home… is because Ruby is missing
Weiss partner and team leader who gave her a sense of purpose and belonging is currently missing and not at her side
The person who brings Weiss comfort and support and helps to keep Weiss balanced is currently missing
The Home that Weiss finds purpose and belonging/finds balance and comfort is currently missing
And this makes sense for it to be Ruby
Because while you could say RWBY is Weiss home/family or RWBY is a place that Weiss finds purpose/belonging
Who is it that made RWBY a home for Weiss in the first place
Who is it that made RWBY a place of purpose/belonging for Weiss in the first place
Ruby
Since, Ruby was the one to show Weiss a small act of kindness and helped to changed Weiss for the better
Through a small of acceptance and simply being Weiss partner/friend, Ruby helped to make Weiss a home that she finds purpose in, a place where she belongs and can be happy in
But without Ruby… does Weiss still even have that home?
Overall, this is just my little analysis/theory and something I could possibly have wrong… just a little thought that has been bouncing around in my head after figuring the Curious Cat’s riddle of Home not being a place you go, but a place you know
But anyways, let me know your thoughts, do you agree, disagree, have some other ideas, whatever
Hope you all have a wonderful day!

MAMMON
He's a little concerned about your sanity, human. The characters you read about remind him of the bloodhounds that everyone else calls debt collectors. Also, he's insanely jealous of the characters you smile about. Only he should be the reason for your lips curving up in glee, for the twinkle in your eyes, and for how you get excited. What's so cool about those bozos anyway? He decides to consume the same content as you to understand your type. Don't assume for even a second that he's doing it because he's interested in you. It's just that you're his responsibility so he wants to have your back and learn more about you.
When he gets a good grasp, he sulks. If all you wanted was unswerving devotion, you'll never find a better suitor than your first man. Be assured that he will hold you close even more carefully than he keeps his Grim. You are one of a kind, after all. More precious than the precious stones than can be duplicated, and the best part is that you will belong only to Mammon.
SATAN
Satan has the perfect book for you. As the Avatar of Wrath, his cruelty and deranged mentality has left behind a sea of lore that makes his enemies shiver. To know that his true nature as a demon may interest you beyond platonic friendship is a blessing. In all honesty, he's not deluded to the extent that he believes that you can love him for real, but as wise people have said, passion blinds even the most knowledgeable, so he must only focus on making you his. Less important details, such as your consent should be ignored till it aligns with his needs.
He starts stretched discussions to learn about your exact preference, and then he focuses on detailed analysis and a little gaslighting to get you interested in the qualities that he has to offer. After all, you do not form a type on your own. You shouldn't be allowed to, because Satan can choose to ingrain himself as the demon of your dreams.

Small Analysis on Belos/Philip, and the many chances at Redemption he missed.
I think the reason why I loved the scene in Watching and Dreaming were The Collector hugged Belos while saying "I get it! You just need kindness and forgiveness, huh?" was because it encapsulated perfectly how many chances Belos didn't take to fucking redeem himself.
I think we all kinda know that if he was just self aware, and reflected on the shit he did for ONE damn second, maybe, just maybe he could have turned out way better than what ended up happening.
Analyzing his backstory and what we can decide actually happened with Caleb (mostly based on all the pictures that were released from Hollow Mind with additional ones), it's not like he was ever exempt from sympathy, don't get me wrong.
Can't really go into the reality that Caleb, being Philip's sole guardian, most likely abandoned him to go with Evelyn into the Boiling Isles (not with bad intentions but still) since THAT'S a whole 'nother can of worms, but like hey! It's fucking understandable, who wouldn't be hurt by that?
But at the same time, what Belos decided to do, it was all on his own accord.
It was all his own decisions tha he could have actually thought on but no! He was too stuck in his delusional beliefs.
Could have stopped anywhere. After he killed Caleb. After he was tricking and offing witches and demons. After the whole encounter with Luzura/Luz and Gertrude/Lilith. After the making of the Grimwalkers began. After instilling glyphs on witches.
There are probably more examples, but basically, Belos had so many damn chances.
But nope! Never took them.
And again, The Collector was so willing to forgive him, even after manipulating and using this kid for centuries on end. After all the horrific shit that Belos has done, there was still a sliver of hope for him to actually just think, 'What am I doing? '
Of course, that didn't happen. It was a 'Friendship is Magic, but gone wrong' and he attempted to kill The Collector once again.
You know what's the best part of this? That there's a scene that just adds onto what I'm saying perfectly.
Later on when Luz revived into the super cool form that is Titan!Luz, she ripped out Belos from the titan's curse. And when he reformed again, he turned into his Philip Wittebane look.
And he had the fucking audacity to blame that dark magic (presumably his curse) was the one who made him commit all those horrendous acts.
This would make pretty much be his very first, and only attempt towards redemption.
But the thing is, it's too late.
Belos threw out his very last chance at redemption with The Collector.
And now? He has nothing more but than to deal with the ultimate consequences that have been building up.
This is also why I'm not that mad that Belos wasn't shown to finally realize the severity of what he has done, or to feel all that built up guilt flow it.
It's because it shows amazingly how far up his ass he was in his beliefs that even when he was DYING, he was just too fucking stubborn.
The more ironic part, like I mentioned earlier, that 'dark magic' was pretty much just his curse. That I want to mention, is fucking SELF AFFLICTED. Belos was literally the one eating all those Palismen, which are the cause of the curse. He's quite literally blaming himself!
And even though he tried to claim that Luz somehow cured him, got quickly called out on his bullshit when the boiling rain revealed him to still be purely goop.
Till the last minute, he was trying to keep a facade that quite literally, crumbled.
TLDR; Belos ultimately gave up every chance to be a better person, and he pretty much got what was coming for him.

G/t Analysis: Gods Among Mice
Before I begin, I want to say two things:
This post is not meant to disparage anyone or question their value as people, all of this is exploration of linguistics, its cultural implications and potential narratives that could arise from them.
It is not a statement of fact or a claim I’m making.
Also… Let’s put aside the “Step on me Goddess” bullshit that has unfortunately plagued much of the g/t community’s DMs (It deserves to be called out, but not what this is about)
I will be using ‘God’ as a gender-neutral term here.
The God-like power of Size💪
Throughout history, Gods have often been depicted as being physically massive. This makes sense, as physical power is the most easily understood form of power. Likewise, a creature's size is one of the most universally recognized sign of one's physical power. So it's a good way to instantly depict the strength of a God. And these depictions have had a weird memetic side effect: The idea that 'massive size' makes a creature 'God-like'.
This does have a bit of psychological merit. If mountain-sized Giants actually existed, (without our arch-nemesis: 🔥the fucking square-cube law🔥) their full size and strength would be so hard for humans to understand that their power is basically arbitrary. At which point it becomes indistinguishable from Godhood. Also, our primitive lizard-brains evolved to fear much larger creatures. And fearing your gods is a major part of many religions.
Because of this there are dozens upon dozens of G/t fics, comics, etc; where the larger party is compared to or (metaphorically) referred to as, a God. In the case of actual giants and characters growing larger, this makes complete sense and is usually well-suited to the narrative.
But in my eternal quest for more angst™ I’ve recently started to question it’s use in Human/tiny stories. It feels kinda… lazy? I mean, not in the context of the story, many fantastic fics do it. But it just feels like it was copied over from the giant fics and never fully questioned or explored.
Okay, but what if: 🤏 smol.
Now obviously, all of this depends on the exact size difference, scenario and world-building of the story. But I still think it applies to a huge amount of fics who play up the Human/tiny size difference as ‘God-like’.
I personally think If a tiny views their resident human as a God-like figure (with all of the fear and awe that entails) …then they are optimistically delusional.
Because Gods are, in most cultures, special.
I have yet to see a fic where the Tiny is struck by the simple and harrowing realization that the humans they view as unstoppable, God-like entities are... in fact, painfully average.
It’s one thing to live in terror of the massive entity that could kill you in an instant. It’s an entirely further step to realize that there are dozens, if not hundreds of them between you and the nearest human-free environment.
And what if the Tiny realizes that their human isn’t even average? Imagine their horror when they realize that the person who is so big and powerful that they can barely even grasp it… is some 4’ 3” (~130cm) little stick? And the average human could snap ‘their human’ in half like a stale fuckin’ Cheeto.
Objectively, the Tiny knew this. They knew that the human they live with was small and weak compared to the others. But they never had an opportunity to actually understand it. And nothing gets that message across like seeing the 'God' of their tiny little world casually picked up and playfully carried on someone’s shoulder.
And It still gets worse...
Depending on the setting, the Tiny may not know or feel connected to any kind of civilization (A borrower colony, a scavenger camp, etc). This is especially true if Tinies are rare and/or oppressed.
And if that Tiny were to realize how average their 'God-like' human was? It would break them in the most pitiful way.
Because that ‘God’ isn’t a god. They’re average. They have a job. They have hobbies and friends. Things that this Tiny could never even dream of having. And that’s normal. That’s expected. They get to live, instead of just survive. Because they’re a person and that’s what people do.
And if their ‘God’ is just a person-
“Then…what does that make me?”
In conclusion:
I believe a character referring to someone as a God/Goddess implies that the speaker is a ‘person’ and they are looking at something greater. It’s ‘Normal’ looking up at ‘Godhood'.
But given the right story, plus a healthy amount of fear and awe. I think many Tinies would start to understand how small they are. And that they’ve been looking up at ‘Normal’ the whole time.

As an ex-Soviet myself, I am baffled by the renewed global fascination with autocracy. According to Freedom House, 8 out of 10 people now live in a partly free or not free country. In the United States, surveys show that a substantial number of people would support authoritarian rule and do not consider the decline of democratic institutions a mortal threat. In China, Russia, and elsewhere, the winds of change seem to be blowing in the wrong direction.
Given this shift, HBO’s miniseries The Regime, whose finale aired on April 7, could not have been timelier. With Emmy Award-winning Kate Winslet and Succession’s Will Tracy at the helm, along with all the trappings of prestige television, The Regime was poised to explore some of the 21st century’s heftiest political questions: the allure of demagogues, the slide into unfreedom and tribalism, and the mechanisms a society can employ to reverse this slide.
Instead, The Regime provides only vague winks to the tendencies of the world’s strongmen that fail to rise to the level of serious critique or analysis, deployed with a naivete that feels distinctly American.
Winslet stars as Elena Vernham, a middle-aged chancellor of an unnamed fictitious country in Central Europe who is obsessed with the black mold she believes is invading her palace. To fight it, she summons Herbert Zubak (Matthias Schoenaerts), a hunky army corporal from a province that grows sugar beets. Prior to his arrival at the palace, Herbert was thrust into the national limelight for his role in gunning down 12 protesters at one of the country’s cobalt mines, earning him a gruesome nickname: “The Butcher.”
Elena and Herbert quickly develop a Beauty and the Beast kind of attraction (postmodern, of course, with no clarity about who is the beast—capricious and delusional Elena or self-loathing, bullied-turned-bully Herbert). After a brief falling out, resolved by Herbert saving Elena from an assassin, the two begin to rule the palace through a Rasputin-style combination of hysterics and nativism.
For the next five episodes, we follow Herbert’s zigzagging ascent through Elena’s wobbling realm, from a walking humidity monitor to a trusted political advisor and lover. Herbert witnesses, engages in, or directs various antics that, according to the show’s description, depict a “modern authoritarian regime as it unravels.” Scenes include cabinet meetings that Elena conducts from an ice-filled tub and bizarre conversations with her dead father, preserved in a glass coffin in the palace’s basement. Herbert, a man of rural origins, caters to Elena’s paranoia by cleansing the palace’s supposedly poisonous air with the steam from boiled potatoes (a folk remedy popular in my Soviet childhood).
Of course, no leader can outrun geopolitics. The country’s rich cobalt reserves attract international interest, and after chasing out a deal that would have given the United States mining rights on the cheap, Elena cozies up to China, promising it a free trade deal and a cut of the mining profits. Together, Elena and Herbert then navigate their way through the illegal annexation of a sovereign neighbor, a half-baked flirtation with nationalization and land reform, and the sting of Western economic sanctions.
All this chaotic politicking unfolds against Elena’s droning on about love, which she constantly either bestows on or demands from her people. Ever the shrewd economist, Elena proclaims, “The American beast and its client states try to strangle us, but petty sanctions will always fail because our love cannot be sanctioned.” Having shipped her subservient, poetry-loving French husband, Nicky (Guillaume Gallienne), to Swiss exile, Elena, who has regained her sex drive, passionately makes up for lost time with Herbert—and fails to notice the unrest growing among her populace over the country’s economic downturn and crude handling of protests.
By the final episode—spoilers ahead—it seems that Elena’s ruling model is no match for revolution. She is chased out of the palace and must run for her life through a land it’s clear she knows nothing about, despite the “special connection” she often claims to have with its people. For once, someone in this world other than Herbert has managed to outmaneuver her delusions. But soon enough, Elena bends the knee to the very oligarchs she once vilified. A would-be coup is undone with the snap of a U.S.-backed finger.
“What was that all about?” Nicky asks his wife at the end of the show. He is offered no conclusive answer—and neither is the audience.
Tracy, who created the show, has compared The Regime to a dark fairy tale, which may explain Elena’s look—a cross between an aging Sleeping Beauty and Madonna’s Evita—and the glass coffin. One could also see it as a love story, in which two broken individuals find a semblance of happiness by tormenting each other in their own make-believe reality. It may even be a dark comedy, as HBO describes it, if one can have comedy without a single funny joke. (Her cabinet member’s quip, “His profits are fucked like a spring donkey,” is certainly rude, but rudeness isn’t necessarily funny.)
One thing the show isn’t is satire. For that to be true, it would actually have to satirize something. Jonathan Swift’s Gulliver’s Travels derided the rigid mores of 18th-century England. Armando Iannucci’s The Death of Stalin poked fun at the brutality and hypocrisy of Joseph Stalin’s flunkies in the postwar Soviet Union. Making Elena’s regime a pastiche of autocracies was a fatal choice because those regimes are products of their unique, often brutal environments. Because the show nods to a little bit of everything, it takes aim at nothing.
Instead of real people, The Regime offers us walking cliches: a delusional woman with hot flashes and daddy issues; cowering and corrupt ministers; greedy Americans pining for other nations’ resources; the dull, kerchiefed masses who look like props recycled from last century’s movie sets. It’s not that we can’t care for bad people. We did for the Roys in Succession because they were nuanced characters, at once tragic and funny, with clear agendas that drove the plot. But The Regime’s characters feel generic, simply dropped into the set, stirring no feelings from the viewer, sympathetic or otherwise. The only character with an identifiable interest is the U.S. senator, Judith Holt (Martha Plimpton), who just wants the country’s cobalt. The rest merely float through the episodes, as though searching for a good scene to act out but coming up blank.
This is a shame because the show has no lack of talent. Winslet does her best with the material she is given, but there isn’t much she can do with lines such as, “I like a bit of spice. Spice is nice,” in reference to Herbert’s “spicy” dreams. She has no real antagonists, no articulated desires, and no emotions. Viewers are left to blink at the screen, admiring her outfits and waiting for something substantive to happen.
Schoenaerts, who plays Herbert, is more plausible, if cliched: a tortured warrior prepared to kill—and die—for love. Andrea Riseborough, playing Agnes, the palace manager, is less lucky. Having shined as Stalin’s daughter in The Death of Stalin, here she is reduced to a brittle, peacoat-wearing loyalist who has an unexplained co-parenting arrangement with Elena and yields her maternal rights the moment Elena demands it. Her epileptic son doesn’t seem to mind, as long as he gets new toys. Hugh Grant as Edward Keplinger, the country’s imprisoned opposition leader, is charming, but his cameo feels like a checkmark on the celebrity cast list. With his carpeted cell, steady supply of sausages, and access to the prison’s keys, Grant’s performance lacks the gravitas that the suffering of real imprisoned political figures, including the late Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, deserves.
And then there is Mr. Laskin (Danny Webb), the head of Elena’s security service. In real dictatorships, the requirements of this job are gruesome and attract rather monstrous personalities—think Lavrentiy Beria of the Soviet Union or Heinrich Himmler of Nazi Germany, both of whom orchestrated horrendous mass murders. Yet in The Regime, Laskin speaks politely about his duty to his country and that he “believes in a principle, the legal transition of power.” Unlike in a real dictatorial regime, we see no blood on his hands. There’s a difference between a temporary suspension of disbelief, which viewers will happily grant, and constantly being asked to accept improbable things.
Herein lies The Regime’s fundamental problem: It fumbles what seems to be the primary point of the show—the portrayal of autocracy. The issue with autocrats is not that they’re narcissists who force others to listen to their off-key singing, as Elena does at seemingly every banquet and celebration she can, but that they are ready to sacrifice millions of people to their delusions. Their subjects, including their inner circle, live in constant fear because the autocrat’s government and law enforcement apparatuses are weaponized and can be turned against them at any moment.
But there is no fear in Elena’s kingdom. Her out-of-grace oligarch is not dispossessed and jailed but simply ordered to clean up chairs at a press conference. Her ministers plot for her downfall in a downstairs bar before mockingly denying her a seat on the rescue helicopter. The rebels take the palace in a span of an episode. (If only real dictators were toppled that easily!) The Regime makes Elena look stupid and pathetic. We do not flee from her in terror; we shrug her off.
Despite her European aesthetics, the portrayal of Elena as a ruler reflects an undeniably American attitude toward autocracy. Even after four years of a Donald Trump presidency, many Americans still don’t take his threats seriously, unable to believe that his cartoonish personality and ineptitude could translate into a real assault on their democratic rights and liberties. With the memory of World War II fading away, others may simply underestimate the difference between living in a free society and living under tyranny.
At some level, plenty of Americans may even hanker for a strongman because he offers simple solutions to complex problems, blind to the fact that—like Elena—he is animated not by public service but by his own vanity, enrichment, and survival and occasionally those of his cronies.
As a creative project, The Regime is free to be whatever it wants to be—a fairy tale, a dark comedy, a saga of human vices. But any serious work of art must be about something, some pressing aspect of human existence, and should be evaluated on those terms. What, then, is The Regime’s message? That love is an exchange of perversions? That the United States is a colonizer propping up authoritarian regimes because it wants their assets? That nothing ever changes and we should resign ourselves to endless inevitable iterations of the narcissist-in-chief?
Cynicism doesn’t win battles—or make for very good television. Perhaps HBO’s next meditation on authoritarianism will give us substance on the topic rather than winks.

Please Stop Posting My Analysis On Twitter And Acting Like You Came Up With It <:(
There’s someone on twitter who just constantly takes stuff from my tumblr & posts it & acts like they came up with it… like the edward stuff and the twinner stuff and the victor-owens stuff etc etc.
And it’s always like. specific stuff right after i make my posts like. I JUST made a post about this EXACT topic this morning:
Tumblr media
And same with this post.
Tumblr media
And this post/this post.
Tumblr media
And this post again. (and this is what frustrates me- its not just somebody talking abt theories & forgetting to cite stuff, it’s somebody grabbing my posts, acting like they thought of them, and then saying theyre going to “win” when theyre right for a thought they didn’t even come up with).
Tumblr media
And this post.
Tumblr media
And this post.
Tumblr media
And that’s not even all of them. Not even close
Like. It’s wayyyyyy too much and wayyy too identical to be a coincidence, and it’s always Right after me, there’s no way it’s a coincidence, as much as i’d love to give this person the benefit of the doubt.
Anyway, it’s just annoying to have people grab your thoughts and analysis and act like they came up with it. Like cmon twitter person!! We could chat and trade theories back and forth instead of you just grabbing my stuff and acting like you thought of it!!
I’m not even mad, just kind of disheartened and annoyed, because I put a lot of time and work into my analysis & would LOVE to talk to another fellow edward believer instead of this!!
I don’t even mean this in a “grrr people have to cite me every time they BREATHE about edward or about something I’ve said” way, but when someone’s just grabbing my posts basically right after I make them and acting like they came up with them, it is just a minor annoyance & so this isnt meant to be a Huge Scary Angry Callout Cancelling post, I’ve just included the screenshots/evidence here so that I’m being super clear about what I’m talking about/what’s frustrating. Like it’s just a little annoying to do all of this out of pure love of the show & passion for analysis & get called a delusional idiot all the time for it, just to have people try and grab it for clout on twitter.
And it’s especially frustrating when they make tweets like this (hilariously enough, the only time they mention this “someone on tumblr” (me) is when they don’t like the content, but they can’t do that for ANY of my other analyses that they’ve grabbed):
Tumblr media
RIGHT after I was posting analyses like this one today:
Tumblr media
Which, of COURSE, everyone is entitled to their own opinions & feelings on what analysis they personally want to read/that they agree with. I just think it’s a little bit frustrating for somebody to rip off my posts and then get annoyed and judgemental when suddenly the content I’m posting isn’t Catered To Them, despite it being analysis of the show + SA being a frequent feature in the ST narrative.
(and new update/edit to this post- they’re definitely talking about my analysis.)
Tumblr media
This is far from the first time somebody on twitter has done this (twitter users come up with your own analyses challenge), but it’s definitely the most frequent. If this person sees this, I’m not mad at you, I’d just really love it if you wouldn’t do this anymore & we could even chat about analysis!!
I would have dm’d this person on twitter to talk in private, but because they don’t follow me, the new twitter rules mean I’d have to pay for a twitter subscription to do that.

episode 11 was intense: an analysis
Tumblr media
i'm surprisingly okay with the way they handled the first scene, where shi-oh confesses? they didn’t make a joke out of it, or give a definite answer, and they didn’t complicate that scene by adding the perspective of any other characters, 8/10 for now
sort of strongly dislike how quick hwang geum ju was to place all the blame on the dad?? like, i have not seen her give her son the time of day, since...forever
Tumblr media
namsoon's development is vv wholesome to watch in a way: she's picking up on all these concepts and being very receptive to her experiences while simultaneously being very mature – as childish as she acts, i have not seen her once do anything i would really disapprove of (though she's been a little overconfident in her strength, but we see her understand in this episode that her strength cannot fix all problems), which is also why it's a bit confusing because her curiosity and desire to help and understand people shuts down somewhat when it comes to ryu shi-oh, which might be lazy writing or that she's too focused on what things look like from her mom's perspective
Tumblr media
ryu shi oh trying to escape,,,baby ryu shi oh trying to escape,,,with binbin,,i have more to say after i feel sad for a bit
Tumblr media
what was that dramatic sparkle noise when the mother hugged nam-in?? are they trying to imply that receiving warmth/affection/love reduces the effects of the drugs? 💀 because it even happened again with nam-in later in the episode, and they hinted to that correlation when they showed ryu-shi-oh turning almost completely emotionless when he took the drugs, and not giving nam-soon any kind of smile/warmth, i might be going crazy, tell me someone else saw that
ps: if there IS a correlation, we better have a scene of nam-soon reaching out to shi-oh, while he's under the drug's effects? for scientific purposes...i sound delusional 😃
it wasn't enough, but i'm glad we're seeing hwang geum ju realize the consequences of her views and remarks on nam-in's weight, it's not a fix-all, but it's a start
on a major note, i'm pretty concerned for hee-sik's life rn o.O
