Danny was pissed. He was chilling in the Speedforce, waiting on his dad—the Flash—to show up when he felt something shift around him. He exited the speedforce to find that the timeline had changed again, and he had been written out of the timeline. He technically was a time anomaly now, and didn’t exist. So he talked to Clockwork, a ghost he’d gotten to know extremely well after Danny’s creation.
Danny was a clone of the Flash and Green Lantern(Hal Jordan) as part of an experiment that Lex Luthor had taken prior to cloning Superboy. Lex had wanted to know if the power ring was able to transmit anything genetically (it couldn’t. It was a wearable weapon, not a genetic thing.) but Danny had inherited Flash’s superspeed, so he wasn’t a complete loss. Danny wasn’t sure if he looked more like either man, considering they both wore masks. He had brown hair and green eyes. Beyond that, he tanned well, was tall for his age, and packed on muscle far easier than the Flash did. He hadn’t ever seen either man out of the costume.
After a talk with Clockwork, he decided he was just going to force his way back into his Dad’s life. Both of them, if possible. He arrived years before his creation by mistake, right near the start of the Justice League. By his estimates, the team had only been formed for a year before he’d arrived. It was strange; he both didn’t exist and was from the future. He guessed that it was around nine years before his birth, and since he was technically six months old, he was 9 years in the past. Thinking about this was going to give him a headache.
The Justice League was severely mistrustful of each other. They didn’t go out of their way for teamups, didn’t have weekly meetings, and almost pretended if the other members didn’t exist. The most recluse of them was Batman, of course. If any hero set foot in Gotham, they were booted out before they even got to downtown. Danny highly suspected Batman had the entire city on camera. The situation was weirding him out more than before. What had happened to the team?! He was used to everyone being one big family, and even the sidekicks having their own teams… speaking of sidekicks, why was Robin so small?! Wait a minute, that wasn’t the third Robin that he was used to, that was the first Robin! Baby Nightwing!
Thankfully for him, he still had his costume on this entire time as he zipped around the country, spying on the younger members of the Justice League. It was surreal watching everyone try to capture him, but he wasn’t going to be caught that easily!
Eventually his presence forced the Justice League into another teamup. Batman laid the trap out, and Flash lured him into it. The plan was so beautiful that he didn’t even realize it was a trap until he was caught in it. Green Lantern took off Danny’s mask, and for the first time, he looked at his fathers without a mask. They didn’t make the connection to him right away. It wasn’t until Wonder Woman’s lasso made its way around his wrist that the truth finally came out.
“Who are you?” Wonder Woman asked.
“Oof , hard question—ow ow oww—I’m being honest!” He struggled against the lasso as it started to burn him. “My designation was Dn-y, I go by Danny, though. I’m a clone.”
“Of who?” Batman demanded.
“Flash and Green Lantern.” The lasso was glowing brightly, indicating that he was telling the truth.
“How did you escape?” Flash asked.
He didn’t answer right away. He was trying to think about how to phrase the whole time traveling—timeline erasure thing when the lasso started to burn him again. “Ow ow! Sorry, I’m thinking! Ow! Turn down the settings on that thing, holy shit—okay, okay.” He winced, his words coming out in one breath as he quickly talked, “What do you know about time travel?”
Diana’s eyebrows were rising. “How are you able to resist the lasso for so long?”
“I’m not really resisting it.” He answered, noting the obvious deflect of his last question, “I just-oww—okay! My mind moves too fast for me to put into words sometimes and it makes me stop to think about it, but like, I’m not good at controlling the speed in which I speak all the time—owww make this thing stop burning me! I’m speaking honestly!”
Diana revoked the lasso, and he rubbed his wrist where his costume was starting to singe. He was still trapped in an anti-speedster prison, so it wasn’t exactly like he was going anywhere anyway.
“Why were you asking about time travel?” Batman asked.
“Based on the crickets chirping I heard earlier, that leads me to believe you guys haven’t had any experience in it yet.” He leaned against the wall of the prison, wincing as it shocked him with electricity. “Seriously? How paranoid are you, Batman?” He rubbed his shoulder. “Honestly, I don’t know what I was expecting with you people, but I feel so attacked right now.”
“So we have experience with it in the future?” Superman piped up.
“Yeah?” His tone of voice equated to a ‘duh’ tone. “Why would I ask what you knew if I wasn’t from the future?”
“How far in the future are you from?” Green Lantern asked.
“Nine years, maybe close to ten? Timelines are weird. I’m technically six months old, but at the same time I’m sixteen. Cloning is odd, but I was like, the first clone ever, so I don’t really have a basis for this sort of thing, if you catch my drift.” He shrugged. He seemed like he talked a lot more than the heroes did, but he didn’t know if that was because he was a chatterbox, or because they weren’t comfortable in each other’s presence. Either way, the silence was odd to him.
“How did you end up here?” Batman asked.
“Honestly? I don’t fully know. Don’t give me that look, Diana! I’m telling the truth.” He added quickly as Diana fingered her lasso again. “All I know is one minute, I’m chilling in the Speedforce, and the next, the timeline is changed and I’m nine years too early for my birth. You’d think the timeline would at least have the decency to spit me out in my own year, but nooo, it wanted to—“
“What’s the Speedforce?” Superman interrupted.
He tilted his head at Superman’s question, then turned to the Flash. “How long have you had your powers?”
Flash shifted uncomfortably. “Two years.”
“Oh boy.” Danny’s green eyes widened. “You don’t know anything about them, do you?”
“I do know things!” Flash deflected, “My suit doesn’t catch on fire anymore! I can run up to Mach 2! I can get from either end of the country in thirty minutes!”
He groaned loudly. “Oh no. Oh no.” He chewed on his thumb, trying to recall everything he’d learned about his powers from his Flash. While he hadn’t learned his or Green Lantern’s identity yet, he knew almost everything about their hero personas and a lot of personal information. They were just worried of the Cadmus connection and didn’t want their identity to fall into the wrong hands if they still could see inside of Danny’s head.
“What’s wrong?” Diana asked.
“Okay.” He ran his hands through his brown hair, making it spike up. “Hypothetically—“ he cut himself off as Batman glared at him. “Okay, totally real, but uh, Flash, let’s just say that I’m faster than you right now. A lot faster.”
“How much?” Flash took a step forward, obviously curious.
“From what we can tell, I’ve topped out at Mach nine.” He responded with a dry laugh, “But your speed was still a lot faster than mine. You’d never tell me what it was. I’m still growing though, and I’m getting faster. I’m able to beat my precious time by almost double each time we test. But my situation was complicated, and things were happening, and it was a mess.”
“Like what?” Superman asked.
“World war three. I think?” He rubbed the back of his neck, a gesture that he had picked up from Green Lantern, “Things got complicated. That’s why I was going to wait for…” his eyebrows scrunched together as the last piece of the puzzle clicked into place. “It was you!” He turned to Flash. “You!” He jabbed a finger at the speedster. “You set this up! You set ME up!”
The heroes took fighting stances, but Superman took a step forward, blocking them from Danny. “What are you talking about?”
“Okay okay.” He was trying to calm down his anger, but he had been told by Green Lantern in the past that he had inherited the man’s anger issues. “Let me start at the beginning. This is going to be a long story, you might want to take a seat.”
Nobody moved, but everyone was tense.
“Or not. Okay. So my creation starts with Lex Luthor.” He noticed Superman stiffen. “He used me as his trial, if you will. Once he got a successful attempt at cloning—me—he moved onto his real target. Cloning Superman.” Danny’s green eyes hovered onto Superman’s blue ones. “He was successful.”
“What happened?” Superman’s voice was unnaturally quiet.
“Well, at first, Conner wasn’t showing that he had all the powers of Superman. So Lex tossed him aside and tried again. The second attempt was more successful than the first. But cloning Kryptonian dna was hard, I guess.” He shrugged. “The second clone lacked basic emotions. Empathy, remorse… it made him the perfect little weapon for Lex. But eventually, the clone’s anger and Lex’s greed got to a point of no return. Lex was elected President of the United States and uh…you can probably see where this is going, right? While the fighting hadn’t like…’officially’ started,” He used his fingers to create air quotes around the word ‘officially’, “Things were getting tense. See, we couldn’t take the clone down because Lex had wrote out the Kryptonite deficiency out of his weakness. And the clone had all the strength of Superman and none of his remorse…”
Superman looked pale. “I see.”
“So Flash and I came up with a plan.” He turned back to his father, “We were going to travel into the next dimension for help. From what we could tell, that dimension was full of god-like beings, and one of them actually helped me out earlier! But for a lot of them, they ask for a price for their help. But anyway, Flash and I were going to take our case to the King and plead for help. I was waiting for Flash when the timeline reset and I found out that not only did I not exist, but I was nine years too early.”
“What are you going to do now?” Green Lantern asked.
“Dunno,” His voice dropped as the reality hit him. He wasn’t going home—his home didn’t exist anymore.

As Little Baby Man Danny likes to "suckle" on certain areas of someone's skin when he's sad, scared or upset, just like a kitten separated from their mother too soon. Three emotions he's feeling plenty of after his parents not only dragged him away from Amity Park to Metropolis for an interview with a certain Daily Planet reporter, but also targeted him as Phantom with a new faulty invention the moment they saw him helping Superman take down Lex Luthor.
The goods news? Instead of dialing back his power levels to the time he first became half ghost like it was designed to do, the device merely changes him into that more diminutive form. Plus Superman whisks him away to safety before Jack and Maddy can get their hands on him.
The bad news? He has no idea how long he'll be stuck like this or if the effect will even wear off eventually. Every time all that uncertainty gets to be too much for his tiny body to contain he resorts to seeking out one of the Superfam and sucking at their hands and fingers, as well as their face, ears or neck as a method of comfort. All of the Superfam, especially Lois and Jon absolutely love it. Well, all of them minus Clark, Connor and Kara.
As is, they either barely tolerate it or outright refuse to indulge LBM. At first everyone else is convinced they're just being mean. Until the three finally swallow their pride and reveal the most horrific unsightly bruises ever to be seen that they've been hiding.

Here are some cool Easter eggs that I found the newest My Adventures with Superman episode, “Let’s Go to Ivo Tower, You Say”. Links to the easter eggs post:
Episode 1 is here
Episode 2 is here
Episode 3 is here
Episode 5 is here
Episode 6 is here
Episode 7 is here and here
Episode 8 is here
Episode 9 is here
Episode 10 is here SPOILERS if you have not seen the episode of course:
Tumblr media
Perry assigns our intern trio to go get interviews about Anthony Ivo. I previously mentioned Ivo's deal in the comics in this post, but we'll talk more about this version of Ivo later.
Tumblr media
Shout out to Lois' hanbok! As a kid in the 90s my first exposure to the DC was through the DC Animated Universe. Because of the way some of the characters like Lois, Clark, Bruce, Dick, Tim, and Terry, were designed, as a kid, I thought they were Asian. Very cool to see this version of Lois be Korean.
Tumblr media
Before Lois shows up for their black tie event at Ivo Tower, Jimmy knocks down a stack of papers and magazine and Clark goes to pick it up and stumbles upon the Metropolis Star with a cover that shows him as a kid flying 15 years ago.
Tumblr media
The Metropolis star is a rival newspaper to the Daily Planet in the comics. The publisher makes its first appearance in Superman #9 (1987) (W&P: John Byrne, I: Karl Kesel, C: Tony Ziuko, L: John Costanza).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When our intern trio makes it to Ivo Tower, Lois spots some very interesting powerful and political figures of Metropolis, the CEO of Galaxy Communications and Mayor Fleming.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Galaxy Communications makes its first appearance in Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen #133 (1970) where it was headed by Morgan Edge, the then leader of Intergang. In the comics Clark and Lois does work for Galaxy communications thanks to it buying out the Daily Planet forcing Clark to be the evening news anchor. The Galaxy Communications panels here are from Swamp Thing #68 (1988) (W&P: Rick Veitch, I: Alfredo Alcala, C: Tajana Wood, L: John Costanza).
Mayor Fleming makes her first appearance in Action Comics #894 (2010) (W: Nick Spencer, P: R.B. Silva, I: Denis Freitas, C: Dave McCaig, L: Rob Leigh) where she appoints Jimmy Olsen and Sebastien Mallory as a welcoming committee for Dalwythians aliens. Like her MAwS counterpart she is obviously the Mayor of Metropolis.
Tumblr media
Later, Lois goes and questions Senator Sackett at the party/event.
Tumblr media
In the comics Sackett was a councilman not a senator who makes his first appearance in Superman #130 (1997) (W: Dan Jurgens, P: Norm Breyfogle, I: Joe Rubenstein, C: Glenn Whitmore and Digital Chameleon, L: John Costanza) depicted here in the issue's panel wearing a Superman costume. Sackett in the comics is in Luthor's pocket.
Tumblr media
I am like 99.99% sure this is Lex Luthor like who else in Metropolis is named Alex, has red hair (if this is Lex Luthor and he shows up again, I'll talk about him and what I mean by this in another post.), and works in the science and tech field.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We finally meet Ivo and he is as I was hoping he'd be a major techbro tool. The way he acts in his introduction and his meeting with Clark is very much like Lex and Clark's meeting in Batman v Superman. Both Ivo and Lex upon meeting Clark know how strong he is. In MAwS Ivo punches his chest and it hurts him and in BvS you heard an audible thud when Lex knocks on Clark's chest. Very similar vibes between both scenes.
Tumblr media
Clark confronts Ivo about one of his deals and name drops one of Metropolis' mob families.
Tumblr media
Bobby Gazzo, head of the Gazzo crime family in Metropolis, makes his first appearance in Batman: Dark Victory #1 (W: Jeph Loeb, P&I: Tim Sale, C: Gregory Wright and Heroic Age, L: Richard Starkings). Fantastic sequel to Long Halloween, highly recommend reading both books.
Tumblr media
After Clark gets thrown out and Lois offers to repair his jacket, we see Lois mentioning her dad, Sam Lane a military general and if the person at the end of the second part of the first episode is Sam Lane...
Tumblr media
...and he shows up again in the show I'll talk more about it in another post. For now this is all just speculation.
Tumblr media
Might be reading into this but maybe a subtle nod to how the words "Superman" and "pal" are often used together. Both have been used as a comic book title, "Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen" as I've mentioned in these posts a few times.
Tumblr media
The show here did a very clever thing with Ivo. Normally any other media pertaining to Ivo would give the audience his power and weakness stealing robot Amazo, but here the MAwS team was able to combine both Ivo and another villain in Superman's rogues gallery, Parasite.
Tumblr media
The first Parasite, Raymond Jensen, makes his first appearance in Action Comics #340 (1966) (Cover Art by Curt Swan, George Klein, and Ira Schnapp). All iterations of Parasite have the ability to temporarily steal away anyone's energy, strength, and their knowledge. As I've said there have been other Parasites that Superman fought, the second and most recurring Parasite is Rudy Jones, the Parasite I'm more familiar with, who makes his first appearance in Firestorm #58 (1987).
Tumblr media
Cover Art by Joe Brozowski, Bruce Peterson, and Tom Ziuko Alex and Alexandra Allston the third and fourth Parasite (green Parasite and purple Parasite respectively) first appeared in the Adventures of Superman #633 (2004).
Tumblr media
Cover art by Gene Ha and Art Lyon
The latest Parasite, Joshua Allen, makes his first appearance in Superman #23.4 (2013).
Tumblr media
Cover art by Aaron Kuder and Dan Brown So yeah there are similarities between the Amazo robot and Parasite and it was smart of the MAwS team to just combine Ivo with Parasite to avoid redundancies. Besides the Amazo robot is more of a Justice League villain anyways.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Near the end of the episode, after the Parasite suit wrecks Ivo's body, he begins to look more like his recent iterations in the comics now. The panel here is from Justice League of America #4 (2013) (W: Geoff Johns, P: Brett Booth, I: Norm Rapmund, C: Andrew Dalhouse, L: Rob Leigh). Hope you all had a wonderful time checking this post out. Like I said at the beginning my other MAwS easter egg posts are:
Episode 1 is here
Episode 2 is here
Episode 3 is here
Episode 5 is here
Episode 6 is here
Episode 7 is here and here
Episode 8 is here
Episode 9 is here
Episode 10 is here

"understanding" please!
Match knows who Lex Luthor is, obviously.
He doesn't know why he's here, though.
"If you don't give me your little side project right now, I'm going to burn you to the ground," Lex Luthor informs the directors pleasantly. Director Beta looks sour. They were married to each other at some point, Match is vaguely aware somewhere in his information uploads. Or might still be? Legally, anyway.
He really doesn't know.
Lex Luthor walked into this Agenda lab with just his chauffeur and a single apparent bodyguard who are both wearing miniskirts and high heels and minimally armed at best, but seems absolutely unconcerned about all the guns currently trained on him or the directors' dark expressions. Match expects to be told to kill him shortly, but no one's given any orders yet.
"And why would we do that?" Director Beta asks dubiously.
"Really, Erica," Lex Luthor says dryly. "Do you think I'm stupid, or are you just producing any random clone now without so much as glancing at their DNA?"
"What?" Director Gamma frowns. "What does the project's DNA have to do with anything?"
"Ironic question to get in a cloning lab," Lex Luthor observes still more dryly. "It's mine. I designed it. You're currently in possession of my intellectual property. So either hand it and all its files over, or I will, again, be burning you to the ground."
Match has the odd thought that he isn't convinced Lex Luthor won't be burning the Agenda to the ground no matter what they give him.
Though–he couldn't. Could he? Not even Lex Luthor.
"Will you now," Director Beta says frostily, and Lex Luthor looks vaguely annoyed and fully exasperated.
"Hope. Mercy," he says, adjusting the cuffs of his jacket and the knot of his tie. "Keep Project Match from getting himself killed, won't you?"
"Yes, sir," the chauffeur replies with a smirk as the bodyguard dips her head in a silent nod. They don't seem remotely concerned that Lex Luthor just told them to go take on a half-alien metahuman clone.
No one tells Match to do anything, so he waits.
"This really didn't have to be difficult," Lex Luthor says with a put-upon sigh, and four point five seconds later the room is full of robot drones with glowing energy gun barrels and Match is pinned to the floor with the chauffeur and the bodyguard on top of him. They're strong. Stronger than him, he's pretty sure. And definitely better-trained than him too. He can't move his arms or legs or get any leverage, though obviously he could still use his TTK.
But no one tells him to, so he just keeps waiting.
"Spence!" Director Alpha shouts, and Director Beta snaps, "Lex–!", and then the shooting starts.
A lot of screaming and chaos happens, but Match still doesn't get given any orders.
"This brat's concerningly agreeable, actually," the chauffeur muses.
"Given his genetic profile? Yes," the bodyguard agrees dryly.
Match could kill them, technically. He's much better with his TTK than his useless "genetic profile" is, and they're both stupid enough to be touching him right now. It wouldn't matter how strong they are if he triggered a stroke or heart attack, after all, and he knows exactly how to.
But no one tells him to do anything, still, so he doesn't.
The drones whir and buzz and keep firing. Spence screams. So does Director Gamma, and then a few different guards too. The whole room is all chaos and noise and irritatingly loud. Match wishes everyone would keep it down a little better.
He doesn't like loud noises.
He waits with his face pinned to the floor. He can feel most of what's happening in the room with his TTK anyway and hear the rest, so it's not like he actually needs to watch.
A lot of things happen before the last body hits the floor, but still, no one tells him to do anything.
And then everything is quiet again, finally, and Match doesn't have to deal with any more loud noises.
"Anti-climatic, but effective enough," Lex Luthor observes like there wasn't just a screaming firefight in the room. Match feels him adjusting his cuffs again, though he's pretty sure they don't need it. Lex Luthor didn't actually do anything but stand there the whole time his drones were tearing through the guards and the directors were fleeing. Director Gamma didn't make it out; he's dead in his seat. So is Spence, on the floor.
Match doesn't care about people dying or not, but Spence being dead is . . .
He didn't like Spence.
Not that he likes anyone, but he didn't like Spence even more than that.
Lex Luthor turns towards his chauffeur and bodyguard and, incidentally, Match. He tilts his head.
"You know, I really assumed he'd be more trouble, all things considered," he says as he tucks his hands into his pockets, sounding mildly annoyed about it. Match doesn't understand why he would be. Whatever side project the man's here for, it's all his now. No one's left to stop him.
Except Match, obviously.
But no one told him to, so he doesn't.
He does wonder why Lex Luthor picked him to leave alive for whatever presumable questioning he has in mind, though. A guard would've been less risky, and also easier to threaten.
They'd care about being tortured or dying, for one thing.
"Let him up," Lex Luthor says, and the chauffeur and bodyguard get off Match and let him go. He considers just staying on the floor, but the order is implicit, at least.
And also he doesn't feel like dying on the floor, if he's going to die. He assumes Lex Luthor has questions, and then some sort of kryptonite. It's Lex Luthor, so of course he does.
Match should care about that, probably.

Can I request a soulmate!AU with a Clark Kent x reader? Where your soul mates name is on your wrist?
I.
Clark Kent.
It shows up sometime around your twelfth birthday. There’s no warning before it happens- you’re absentmindedly eating breakfast one day when you glance at your wrist and all of sudden it’s there, in neat, slanted writing.
You’re at a loss for how to react at first- hell, this is the name of your soulmate. A few minutes are spent staring in awe at the words on your wrist, before the shock falls away and you’re left feeling a little giddy- you finally know their name.
Every advice column ever written about the matter says not to obsess over it, but your pre-teen self can’t help but fixate on the markings whenever they come into your line of sight.
II.
Clark is not a very widespread first name, you discover. It always ranks around the four-hundred mark in popularity polls, both in North America and the UK.
Despite that, you run into a lot of them. Enough for you to begin to suspect that fate is playing a cruel game- really, how many Clarks can one person meet over the course of their lifetime?
To your dismay, you end up hating every single one of them. Thankfully, none of their last names even resemble Kent.
III.
Clark means scholar.
You wonder if he’s the academic type.
A lot of questioning is done on your part when you’re bored and have nothing better to do. Even more so when you're feeling lonely. Is he tall? What’s his favourite colour? Does he enjoy whole-wheat bread?
When you were a teenager, you had decided he was quite possibly going to be the most perfect person on earth. Your best friend at the time had laughed, telling you that no one was perfect.
You’re older, now. And while you no longer think Clark Kent, whoever he is, would be perfect, you still can’t stop yourself from picturing what he might be like after you have a bad day.
IV.
The first time you encounter it, you’re taking the subway home.
The newspaper is discarded on a scratched up subway seat. The headline is something about Lex Luthor - it always is in Metropolis- but that is not what catches your attention.
It’s under the headline, smudged to ruin by the previous reader's fingers. And yet still discernible enough to make your heart beat faster.
By Clark Kent.
V.
Finding out how to contact the newspaper is easy enough. You cant figure out how to reach him, though, and you wonder what the point of modern technology is if you knew someone’s full name yet still had no way of reaching them.
When you call them, the receptionist tells you that Mr. Kent is out. Leave a message.
You give her a reasonably vague excuse to have him contact you, double checking that she has your name written down correctly. There’s a hint in her voice that tells you she suspects what is going on, but she doesn’t comment on it. You’re infinitely thankful.
VI.
By the time you leave work, there’s a missed call and a voicemail left on your phone. You wait until you get home to listen to it, and it’s a smart idea, because you didn’t know you could get this unreasonably anxious just by hearing someone say your name.
“This is Clark. Uh, Clark Kent. I hope- did I say your name right? Never mind- I was hoping we could meet up?”
He’s stumbling over his words and you can’t help but laugh- at least you’re not the only one completely overcome by nerves.
The voicemail ends with an address and a time to meet up (“ That is, if it’s okay with you-“ ) tomorrow.
You send a text confirming that you’ll be there.
VII.
You’re at the designated meeting place- one of Metropolis’ many parks. How they manage to put them in a city with such high density is beyond you- still, you weren’t here to question their urban planning prowess.
You swear you can feel him before you see him.
The first thing you notice is how tall he is. Very, very tall. He’s dressed in a dark grey suit- carrying a briefcase, clearly having just gotten done with work. It’s not what you imagined- yet somehow, it’s better than anything you’ve ever dreamt up.
He has glasses, you note. They have the effect of making him look impossibly endearing.
You’re not aware you’re gaping at him until he says your name.
“Nice to meet you, Clark.” It’s hard to keep the grin off your face. “You’re saying it right, by the way.” You stick your hand out for a handshake, making sure to angle it so the words on your wrist are visible.
He takes it, a smile playing at his lips. Warmth envelops your hand immediately. “It’s nice to meet you, too.”

finally reading the metal/death metal arcs and related stuff and the timeline is just so insane. like. first batman chooses his family over joker, rejecting him and breaking his shriveled black heart. joker's reaction to this is to kill batman and destroy gotham, as one does. then they both make the executive decision to commit homoerotic murder-suicide. but they're resurrected with dionesium. joker in his new persona all pleads with batman not to go back to the way things were.
batman, now re-batmanified, captures joker, locks him in the batcave for several months, extracts the dionesium from his body, re-jokerfying him (???). bruce proposes to selina, presumably at the same time he has joker imprisoned in the cave. then despite joker all but begging him not to, batman effectively breaks the multiverse and opens the door for barbatos, the batman who laughs, and a whole other host of cosmic horrors. nice one, bruce! joker later teams up with batman to fight tbwl even though, again, this entire mess is very much bruce's own fault and joker was actively trying to prevent all of it! even though bruce Locked Him In A Cave. For Several Months. and broke his heart and literally killed him...
and joker's later reaction to all of this unfolding is to team up with lex luthor who's trying to take control of the multiverse because ofc he is. however joker fully intends to backstab lex the second he gets close to succeeding, and then to murder the entire legion of doom and show off their bodies to batman. but this plan is derailed because luthor is working with the batman who laughs who joker DESPISES.
then when tbwl resurfaces to target batman, joker shoots himself in the heart to infect batman so he can fight tbwl. bruce holds his dying body so very tenderly in his arms and then has alfred perform open heart surgery on him, refusing to let joker actually die even though alfred is basically begging him to do so. then joker escapes but comes back to wish batman good luck in fighting tbwl. batman asks joker to kill him if he becomes like tbwl. joker agrees and ends up keeping his promise and shooting batman (who ends up fine ofc because y'know, comics).
then like a year-ish later everything with their dark designs and joker war goes down. and some time during this the whole batcat marriage and best man arc takes place (not sure exactly when, the timeline makes my head hurt). like... how am I supposed to be normal about any of this.

Kaiju Week in Review (March 17-23, 2024)
Mere days to go before a new Godzilla movie... didn't we just do this?
Tumblr media
Before we welcome that latest entry, let's look back on one that just commemorated its golden anniversary. With Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla turning 50 on March 21, every member of Toho's Big Five has now hit the half-century mark. The company didn't mark the day itself with much; as has become typical, the celebration of Mechagodzilla (and presumably King Caesar) will be spread throughout the year. I wrote a bit about the magnificent machine, who I consider the best Godzilla antagonist, here. The film itself is one of Teruyoshi Nakano's masterpieces, an onslaught of animated rays and gorgeous explosions. The humans are forgettable, but they keep the pace brisk—and the alien commander Mugal is almost as devilish a villain as Mechagodzilla itself, especially in the English dub. Speaking of that dub, you can watch a video breaking down the entire voice cast here, thanks to the tireless work of the Save All Dubs! group.
Tumblr media
Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong #6 finally gets to the good stuff, with Lex Luthor piloting Mechagodzilla and commanding an army of Titans to raze Metropolis while the heroes counter with not one but two giant robots. It doesn't quite measure up to the Godzilla: Rulers of Earth finale, but like that double-sized issue, it required two artists (Christian Duce joined by Tom Derenick) to draw all those characters, and the results are impressive. The story hasn't grown any more complex, but I'm at least interested to see how it all wraps up.
In other Godzilla comic news, a Godziban manga by Sakuju Koizumi has started up, hosted by Telemaga, a tokusatsu-focused Kodansha site. The first installment was pretty short, so I'm guessing these'll be updated weekly. It isn't the first comic version of Godziban, as one called Godziman ran during the 1st Season, but this one's actually illustrated.

Tokyo's Ikebukuro district made Godzilla the honorary chief of police on March 16 to take part in a parade promoting traffic safety. The stunt made international headlines and generated no small amount of angst over Cop Godzilla. I think Gamera would've been better-suited to this campaign myself.

Here's the trailer for Season 2 of Chibi Godzilla Raids Again, revealing Gabara, Gigan, and Titanosaurus's designs. Looks as funny as the first one. Maaya Uchida, who sang the ending songs in SSSS.Gridman and SSSS.Dynazenon, will voice Chibi Minilla. It's gone weirdly neglected by English Godzilla social media accounts, but X user @MakoMattari translated it.

The Music Box Theatre in Chicago has a Godzilla program for the ages scheduled for June 7-13, in honor of his 70th birthday. There's not a weak day on the schedule, but the clear highlight is a 24-hour marathon of the entire Showa series on the 8th, which I don't think has ever been attempted before.
G-Fest has also started announcing guests: Ayako Fujitani (Asagi in the Heisei Gamera trilogy) and Rie Ota (Baragon in GMK), both first-timers. Frankly, they could carry the con themselves if they have to; not sure who I'm more excited to meet!

You are no longer Superman ...
Superman was flying over Metropolis, enjoying the view of the city he loved and protected. He smiled as he saw the people waving at him from below, grateful for his presence. He felt a surge of pride and happiness, knowing that he was making a difference in the world. Suddenly, he heard a familiar voice in his ear. It was Lex Luthor, his arch-nemesis and the most evil man on the planet. Lex had somehow hacked into his communication device and was speaking to him directly. "Hello, Superman. I have a surprise for you. Look up and see." Superman looked up and saw a large satellite dish on top of LexCorp Tower. It was glowing green, emitting a powerful beam of energy. Superman felt a wave of pain and nausea, as he realized that it was kryptonite, his only weakness. "What are you doing, Lex? Stop this madness!" Superman shouted, trying to resist the effects of the beam. "Oh, I'm not mad, Superman. I'm brilliant. I've finally found a way to control you. You see, this is not just a kryptonite beam. It's also a mind ray, designed to alter your brainwaves and make you obey my every command. You are now my slave, Superman. And you will do whatever I tell you to do." Superman felt a strange sensation in his head, as if something was invading his mind. He tried to fight back, to hold on to his identity and his morals. But it was too late. The mind ray was too strong, and it overpowered his will. He felt his thoughts and emotions changing, becoming darker and more twisted. He felt a surge of hatred and resentment, towards the people he once loved and protected. He felt a surge of loyalty and admiration, towards the man he once hated and feared. He felt a surge of excitement and thrill, towards the idea of becoming a master criminal. He heard Lex's voice again, giving him his first order. "Good. You are mine now, Superman. And your first task is to rob the National Bank of Metropolis. Fly there now and take all the money and valuables you can find. And don't worry about the security or the police. You are Superman, after all. No one can stop you. Go now, and make me proud." Superman nodded, without hesitation or remorse. He flew towards the bank, ready to commit his first crime. He didn't care about the consequences, or the people he would hurt. He only cared about pleasing Lex, his new master. He was no longer the hero of Metropolis. He was the villain of Lex.

List of favorite versions of these characters
List of my favorite iterations of different characters:
This is an opinion:
Spider-Man
Tumblr media
I just love how nuanced and developed this take on Spidey is. All are great in their own terms but I have personally felt more of a connection to this Spidey more than anyone else, with only Andrew Garfield's coming close because I just love that the whole mannerisms are just so real.
He experiences anger and sadness and so many other negative emotions. He doesn't have to be the happy one all the time because that's unrealistic. It has a more grounded apporach than Tobey Maguire's Spidey but not as much as Andrew Garfield, giving the perfect balance for a quality comic book movie character. It's not too campy but has just the right amount.
The main problem is the fanfiction writers treating him like a five year old when he is not. This is a developed and mature character. How everyone just treats him like a baby is beyond me. His last appearance had him try to murder a man with his bare hands (and a weaponized glider). There was no baby in that scene.
Next up it's Batman.
Tumblr media
This one has so much potential. I don't have as much to discuss but I just feel drawn to it for some reason. The incredibly dark, emotional feel seems to just work for Batman and Robert Pattinson just nails it. The only other one that comes close is Christian Bale who unfortunately puts me off with two things. The design and the voice.
You can't tell me Batman sounds like he gargles with battery acid. Also... hockey pads? Really Nolan?
Next up... Percy Jackson. (Reminder that I am only putting in live action ones as I have not seen the Lightning Thief play but I have been told it's great)
This one is no contest.
Tumblr media
While Logan Lerman was actually a perfect casting for the 16 year old Son of Poseidon, his performance was slightly bogged down by the movie he was in. Logan and the Lotus scene was probably the only thing I would ever like about the movies. Walker on the other hand, while we have only seen him in trailer as of right now, is the perfect Percy. I don't care about his looks because the entire reason PJO was created was to send the message that anyone, whether they have dyslexia or ADHD, can be a hero. The whole part of Percy's design doesn't matter, just as long as he looks like Poseidon. That's the only part that matters. Just like how Annabeth's design doesn't matter as the whole idea of it was that anyone can be smart, despite being discriminated against for their appearance. THIS LITERALLY MEANS IT MAKES MORE SENSE FOR HER TO BE BLACK RATHER THAN BLONDE. STOP BULLYING LEAH YOU RACIST NERDS ON THE INTERNET. NOT THAT I'M HATING ON NERDS THO I AM ONE AND THIS ARGUMENT IS LITERALLY TO DEFEND THE ULTIMATE NERD.
Anyway back to Percy. Walker is Percy Jackson. Anyone seen Secret Headquarters and The Adam Project? It's like seeing Percy come to life. Anyone who says 'Ever had your ass beat by a twelve year old nerd with an inhaler' in that tone is Percy Jackson. His entire mannerism just is the chaotic energy of Percy. Plus, Rick Riordan has said that he has encouraged Walker to embrace anger in the show rather than just be the stereotypical morally superior protagonist. THIS PERCY WILL SHOW EMOTION AND ANGER AND EVERYTHING. THAT IS PERCY. From the start, he has always had a slightly darker streak, from manipulating Procrustes into lying in his literal death bed to manipulating the tears and poison of the misery goddess (No idea where the fandom got the idea of blood bending that's not part of the scene)
Honestly, all I've heard from this kid is just Percy Jackson. He is Percy.
For the final one we have Superman and Lex Luthor.
Tumblr media
This is the best ever Clark Kent I have seen. He shows both the alien side and the human side of Kal-El so well. Henry Cavill was amazing but we never saw really saw Clark enough. More of the Kal-El side. This is probably because of the lack of appearance due to all the weird problems with the DCEU which was disappointing as he was gearing up to take the new favorite spot for me. Welling on the other hand, had so much time, evolving and developing this character that is was just hard not to see Welling when I hear Clark.
Despite the lack of suiting up (Which was fixed by the Season 11 comics and Smallville Tie-ins) he managed to bring the essence of Superman into the show so well. His time as the Red-Blue Blur and The Blur managed to show both his heroic side and his darker side, adding a much more emotionally invested side to the character. Rather than just making him the morally correct character who can do no wrong and assumes the best in everyone like most people think of when they see Superman, Smallville's version shows him as a person making him have flaws, doubts, anger, emotion and so much trails.
His friendship and rivalry with Lex, paired with Tom Welling's amazing chemistry with Michael Rosenbaum, created such amazing on screen banter and added a new layer to his character, giving him a large parallel to one of his greatest enemies.
Both started off wanting to be just good. The main difference was parentage. Clark was lucky to get Jonathan and Martha. He may have had some hiccups with Jor-El but Jor-El at least wanted to give him a good path. Lex had Lionel. Lionel was abusive, via neglect and hate. Lionel was the real reason why Lex had no hope of becoming a hero. This came into play heavily in the earlier seasons of Smallville.
Smallville was always a three act play.
Act 1: Season 1-3
This one focused on fathers and sons
So much of this was about Jonathan and Clark, Lionel and Lex, Henry Small and Lana, Jor-El and Clark, even Gabe and Chloe for a bit.
Act 2: 4-7
This one helped develop the characters through their interactions with each other while building the Krypton sub-plot.
This was how Lana's relationship with Clark and Lex grew and fell.
This was how Chloe grew to be one of Clark's most trusted confidants.
This was about how Clark and Lex's friendship started failing.
All the while, we finally were introduced to actual characters from the comic books other than Lex, Lana, Clark, Pete and Clark's parents.
We saw The Flash, Aquaman, Cyborg, Green Arrow and Black Canary.
We were introduced to Lois Lane of all people which gave everyone my favorite version of the character, rivalled only by My Adventures with Superman and Superman and Lois.
We saw Brainiac, Bizarro and Supergirl.
This truly marked the end of the fathers and sons arc with Jonathan suffering a heart attack and Lex truly becoming the villain after murdering his Father, a fate he had tried so hard to stop in the earlier seasons.
Then we got the final act.
Act 3: Seasons 8-10
This was the act where Clark truly became a hero. He stepped out of the shadows as the Red-Blue Blur. He took on Doomsday. He finally defeated Brainiac. Lois and Clark became a thing. We saw his dark side as he became The Blur, with his trenchcoat and we saw him evolve past his dark side and then finally, he donned the cape.
This was truly the greatest version of Superman.
Now you must be waiting for the Lex one.
Of course it will be Smallville's Lex.
Tumblr media
Michael Rosenbaum was PERFECT.
He will be the only Lex I ever see.
His take on the character was just so emotional and perfect.
His relationship with Clark and his slow descent to madness and evil but just perfect.
That day on the bridge changed his life but it also changed all of ours.
Everyone who saw Smallville knew that Clark and Lex would become enemies and yet it still hurt.
Tumblr media
Let's be honest, this scene broke everyone.
This was when there truly was no return.
Tumblr media
This just cemented what everyone knew would happen.
This was truly the greatest pair in TV history.
They've come a long way from this:
Tumblr media
Knight out.

At this rate, Pythor is the ninjas' true arch-nemesis, more than Garmadon OR the Overlord. Because sure Garmadon is the iconic one, the face, but he's much more repentant, and his time being rehabilitated or helping the ninja often lasts longer than his actual screentime as a villain. The Overlord is also a big deal, a final endgame villain, but his appearances are more minimal, and he's less personal.
If the Overlord is Darkseid, then Pythor is Lex Luthor. And Pythor's the first Garmadon-independent villain we've gotten, this dude just keeps coming back. He came back in Day of the Departed, and then even in Crystalized, which were otherwise separate villain get-togethers because of how long the show was going. And he's not some jobber like the Mechanic, who exists mostly to pad out time between seasons; He was genuinely a main antagonist and kept playing major roles in his appearances! Plus Pythor has the pizzaz, the love of the fandom, and the backstory/potential for depth. He's got specific dynamics and more dramatic scenes.
It's kinda fitting how when designing the Ninjago Core line, which is meant to encapsulate the core concepts of Ninjago (hence the name), the designers first went with snakes as the villains. Snakes have always been an iconic part of Ninjago and intertwined with it, and have been more popular than even the skeletons, who also appeared in Core later on. We've got the Serpentine, but then there's also the Anacondrai Cultists, the Vermillion, the Pyro Vipers, and Maaray Guards.
The Serpentine are the most detailed, fleshed-out, and comprehensive of all the antagonist factions, and have had the most screentime, taking up all thirteen episodes of S1, and the first half of S2! While continuing to have cameos and backstory relevance later on, with their conflict with humanity being a backdrop for other seasons. Other antagonist factions have come and gone or faded into the background, but the Serpentine have become a constant in Ninjago's populace, to the point where we've been getting additional Serpentine civilians like Selma or Spitz.
And as a snake lover... 100% W for me. Given Ninjago's big thing with dragons, especially with Dragons Rising now, I can't help but feel there's an easy symbolic connection to make between snakes and dragons; Eastern dragons are very snake-like, and they're both reptiles. What if some snakes are just dragons whose wings haven't grown out yet?

Super Titles Round-Up (May 1994)
This month: Superboy gets animated! Supergirl gets even! Steel gets that cool-ass Jon Bogdanove cover up there!
Superboy #4 (May 1994)
Superboy is pretty sick due to that pesky Clone Plague running through the Superman titles, so his friends try to cheer him up by showing him the pilot episode for Superboy: The Animated Series. The episode is about two villains called Lock 'n' Lode trying to kill Superboy's manager, Rex Leech, depicted as a handsome "philanthropist and adventurer" in the show (because he's the one who paid for it). Meanwhile, Dubbilex appears as Rex's "wacky telepathic D.N.Alien butler" and Roxy Leech as an "undulating mass of primordial slime," which neither of them appreciates.
Tumblr media
The animated scenes are drawn by late Batman Adventures artist Mike Parobeck in that classic broad-chinned Bruce Timm style, so this issue serves as kind of a preview for the other animated-style DCU titles that would come later in the decade (I always thought it was funny that Superboy got an "animated" design before Superman himself did). Anyway, in the show, Lock 'n' Load are defeated thanks to Rex's cleverness, mastery of geometry, and flawless marksmanship, though Superboy helps too. We even get a happy ending for Roxy, as an accident in the "Super-Grotto" causes her to evolve into fungus.
Tumblr media
Unfortunately, things are less cheerful in the real world, since the issue ends with Superboy collapsing in the kitchen and his friend Tana remarking that he's not breathing. TO BE CONTINUED!
Supergirl #4 (May 1994)
Final issue! After finding out that Lex Luthor Jr. has been playing her for a gosh-danged fool all these years, the all-new, all-edgy Supergirl goes around the world torching Lex's properties (after making sure all employees have evacuated them, because she's still a sweetheart deep down). Lex figures out what Supergirl is doing and sets an explosive trap in one of his properties that leaves her as a pool of protoplasmic goo on the ground.
Tumblr media
But Supergirl was only playing dead, so she uses the fact that Lex thinks he killed her to surprise him at LexCorp Tower. However, once she reaches Lex's office, Supergirl finds out that the red-haired adonis she was expecting to see has been replaced with a frail bald guy in a floating wheelchair. The shock of seeing Lex like that makes Supergirl drop her guard for a moment, which is enough for him to try to kill her again. Lex crawls into his Team Luthor armor for protection, but an even-more-pissed-off Supergirl tears him out and actually throws him through a window to a certain death.
Tumblr media
For better or worse, Superman shows up just in time to save Lex, even though he looks like he might drop dead any second anyway. Supergirl is shocked to learn that Lex wasn't lying about his sickness, especially because she would have gladly helped him if he'd just asked her instead of sneakily cloning her to try to make a cure. Supergirl morphs back into her old self as she flies away in tears.
In the epilogue, the Kents let Supergirl know she's very welcome to come live with them again, but she decides she wants to travel the world and grow as a person/sentient lump of protomatter. The miniseries ends a few months later, with Supergirl going to Paris to reunite with Lex's ex-wife Elizabeth Perske, who agrees to be her new mentor. Perske will appear in a few issues of Supergirl's solo series, but the more interesting part in this flash-forward is the mention that U.S. Congress has "passed a measure approving aid for strife-torn Metropolis." Look out for some strife in the main Superman comics, coming soon!
Steel #4 (May 1994)
Steel's evil former employers at Amertek want to get back at him for destroying their headquarters last issue, so they hit him at a place where they know he'll be: at the funeral for a kid who died during a gang fight due to their weapons. Did I mention they're evil? They send a shirtless dude hopped up on Tar, the drug that turns people into Rob Liefeld characters, to crash the funeral, and since John Henry doesn't have his armor on, he has to hit the attacker with church pews until the drug runs out. (Would have been cool if he'd built himself a new armor out of church pews on the spot.)
Tumblr media
The attack intensifies the gang war going on in the tough streets of D.C., resulting in another little kid getting shot (an adorable boy named Paco who wanted to be a gang member when he grew up). Then, the issue ends with John's niece Natasha getting ran over by a gang member's car as she's going to the hospital to see Paco. I have a feeling this comic is trying to tell us something about gangs, but I'm not sure what it is.
Oh, yeah, this issue also features a cameo by Lois Lane: John calls her (at home, since she was just fired by the Daily Planet) to figure out what he can do with the CD full of incriminating evidence he got from Amertek's HQ. She hooks him with her college roommate, policewoman/hacker Shauna Beryl (the lady on the cover up there), who will become a recurring character in this comic.
The Ray #1 (May 1994)
In the first issue of his solo series, Ray "The Ray" Terrill takes a trip to Hawaii on the same day that a little troll creature prays to Darkseid next to a volcano, causing a giant lava monster called Brimstone to emerge (Darkseid created a previous incarnation of Brimstone during the Legends crossover). Superboy shows up to help fight Brimstone, but instead of working together, Ray spends most of the issue thinking about how much he hates this kid and calling him a cheap poser. Eventually, after Brimstone has been "defeated," Superboy has enough and punches Ray to finally get him to shut up.
Tumblr media
By the way, this issue and the next one are supposed to take place between Superboy #3 and #4, meaning that Superboy was already seriously ill while fighting Brimstone, so I don't blame him for losing his patience with this hater. Ray then hits Superboy back with a big blast of energy and looks mighty smug for a moment... until he notices that Superboy isn't moving or breathing. Yes, that's two comics in one month that end with someone yelling that Superboy is apparently dead. Oh, and then Brimstone wakes up. TO BE CONTINUED, TOO!
Damage #1 (April 1994)
I missed this issue during the April '94 round-up (shout out to Neil in the comments for alerting me of its existence!), so here it goes. Our old pal Metallo is the main villain in the first issue of this series, which is about a wimpy kid called Grant Emerson who occasionally has bursts of explosive strength that allow him to total cars with his fists. Some mysterious villains broke Metallo out of Stryker's Island and gave him a new giant body just to send him to kill Grant at his school. The most interesting part for me is that this backstory is told in the same format as Metallo's backstory in John Byrne's Superman #1, with the green flashback panels at the end of every row.
Tumblr media
Damage defeats Metallo, but also destroys his entire school in the process, and then other villains show up to capture him… but that has nothing to do with Superman, so it's none of our business.
NOTE: Our post about Adventures of Superman #512 went up earlier this week, check it here out if you missed it!

We were just kids just living in Wide-eyed innocence Minivan floor like a tenement We were just kids who believed in More than just dreams In more than just justified ends to a means
-Switchfoot, "Who We Are"
————————–
Between.
Gotham Central Park.  A harrowed, hunched form had parked himself on a bench overlooking the playground, where a group of children were engaged cheerfully.  Peacefully.  Safely.  Hanging upside-down from the monkey bars, taking turns on the slide while their doting parents watched and applauded at each successful landing; boosting their precious little ones on the swings, higher and higher towards the horizon.  It reminded Tim of the time he and Cassandra had sat there together, holding hands for the entire length of the afternoon.  …She wasn’t here now though.  He was alone.
…Or so he thought, but he suddenly felt a familiar shadow fall over him.  Only stocky rather than slender.  He didn’t even need to raise his head to guess who it was.
“I thought you and Cass were in Hawaii.”
“We came back as soon as we heard the news.”
Conner reclined on the resting next to Tim, who retained silence for an agonizing interval before finally stating:
“My wife’s pregnant.”
A thump on his back.
“Congrats, man.  You finally knocked her up.”  His companion grinned.  “I was wondering if you two even did it, to be honest.”
Tim shamefully hung his head in regret.
“…It was an accident.”
“That’s a real nice way to refer to your future offspring.  Look at it this way, you’ve got a story to tell the tyke when it grows up.”
“This isn’t funny, Kon.”  He descended his frazzled forehead further into his palm.  “What am I even gonna do with a kid?  I can barely handle functioning normally on a daily basis, how the hell am I going to be able to take care of someone else?  I mean,” he added spitefully, “it’s not like I exactly have the greatest track record of role models to go by.”
Conner’s own brow furrowed in faint frustration.
“Look, you think you’ve got daddy issues, you’re talking to the guy who has half of Lex Luthor’s and Superman’s DNA.”
“Sorry.”  Tim swallowed sympathetically.  “It’s just… What if I do end up like my dad?  I could’ve inherited something bad from him…”
Conner sighed.
“Tim, buddy, you’re the one who told me genetics don’t work that way.  Remember when I found out Luthor was my secondary DNA donor, I thought I had a 50% chance of suddenly turning ‘psycho’ myself in my sleep.”
“Or of going bald.”
Tim couldn’t help but taunt, and Conner flushed slightly, recalling that nervous period of constantly checking his hairline in the mirror each day.
“Point being…  Everyone’s expected me to turn out to be either the world’s greatest hero – or the world’s greatest villain.”  He looked down at his fist, clenching tightly in determination.  “Ultimately, I chose to use my powers for good, not because of Superman, or Cadmus – but because I wanted to.  Carve my own path.  Show I can be more than just a weapon – what I was designed and purposed for – no matter what anyone else says.”
He clapped his company’s shoulder.
“Listen: You can choose who you want to be.  You’ve already proven that by becoming a hero yourself.  You are not your father.  You’re you.  And you’re the coolest, smartest, nicest guy I know.  So stop worrying, quit beating yourself up, and trust me when I say you’re gonna be fine.  ‘It’s’ gonna love you, because I do.  So does Steph.  And Cass.  We all do.”
Tim rotated slowly to confront Conner, who beamed broadly.
“Remember, I’m here for you.  All of us are.  If you need help with anything, just ask.”
Tim stared at him, before restoring his gaze to the ground.
“You know… When the two of us first met, I was in a really bad place.”
“And now?”
“…Now?”  He lifted again, and smiled.  “Now… I’m in a good place.  Thanks to you guys.  You’ve all been as much of a ‘family’ to me as Dick and Barbara.  Heck, you’re practically like a second brother.  I don’t know where I’d be if I hadn’t met you when I did.  I’m… really grateful for you being there.”
Conner rubbed his neck in embarrassment at the gushing words of appreciation.
“Ah, jeeze.  C’mere, you.”
A large limb lunged around Tim’s shoulders, drawing him suddenly into a half-embrace.
“Kon!”  Tim glanced apprehensively aside at the sound of giggles and whispers coming from two teenage girls passing nearby.  “Hey, c’mon, we’re in public.  People are watching.”
“So?  Let them watch.  I want the world to see how much you’re valued.”
Tim blinked, but accepted the bear hug, reciprocating amiably.  Burying his face into the symbol on the other’s wide, warm chest.  For a brief instant, it brought back a vague, tingling memory of being held and soothed by someone of similar size and build, dressed also in black…
Finally separating, he laughed sheepishly at the sappy scene, surreptitiously wiping his eyes.
“Look at us, two grown-ass men – acting like total chicks.”
Conner chuckled as well, and as if to assert his masculinity, lightly tapped the other’s cheek with a playful punch, teasing in a mildly mocking manner.
“I take back what I said before about you being cool.  You’re still a dweeb.”
“And you’re still an ass,” Tim parried risibly with visible good humor, ribbing back in riposte.
“I’ll take that as a compliment.”
As they idled there like inept idiots, awkwardly avoiding acknowledgement of affection after the fact, another visitor with red on its breast ironically fluttered down onto the path before them, seeking handouts.  Conner glimpsed anxiously at his comrade out of the corner of his eye, but Tim remained relatively calm as he obliged and pulled out the leftovers from the work lunch Steph had packed him, compassionately scattering crumbs of sandwich crust.  After a minute of mute feeding, Conner quietly cleared his throat.
“…For what it’s worth, you’re still a ‘superhero’ in my eyes.  Absolutely nothing that’s happened since then can ever change that fact.”
Tim wryly rolled his eyes, emptying out the residual rye before crumpling the wrapper and tossing it towards the nearest bin – marginally missing the mark so it bounced off the brim instead.
“You never even knew me when I was Robin,” he snorted.
“Yeah but…”  Conner squinted contemplatively up at the sky.  “For some reason it feels like I’ve known you my whole life.”
“That’s because you pretty much have.”
“Touché,” Conner conceded.  “As far as I’m concerned though...  You’re my Robin.  Always will be.”
“And you’ll always be my clone boy.”
Tim replied with a hint of sarcasm, but smiled sincerely all the same.
As he stood in order to pick up the litter and put it in its proper receptacle, Conner followed suit.  Taking advantage of the opportunity, he again bumped the neurotic neat freak on his bent backside, bolstering boisterously.
“Just to make sure you’ve got the message, I’ll say it once more: You’re gonna be an awesome dad.  …A dork dad, but an awesome one.”
“Thanks…  I think.”
Conner patted supportively.
“Go home to your wife, Tim.  She needs you now more than ever.  If you back out from this, then I seriously will kick your ass.”
His senses piqued as he turned towards something in the distance.  With a wink, he continued:
“Speaking of which, I should probably get back to mine, before she glares a hole in my skull.  Heck,” he cupped his palm in a hush, “you’d think she’s the one who has heat vision.”
I heard that.
A stern voice resounded in both their brains, as Conner winced.  Releasing dutifully, he revolved and hastily walked off with a reverse wave.
“See you around, nerd.  Remember, I’m always a holler away if you need anything.  Even if it’s just to talk.”
Tim observed him go, approaching a dark-haired woman and a child with identical bangs and bold blue eyes.  Conner stooped to ruffle the boy’s top, before hoisting the bundle up onto his shoulders.  Cassandra smiled and nodded towards Tim.
She’s waiting for you.
With that, she took her husband’s hand and strolled off through the garden.  Tim breathed out, before heading off in the opposite direction – towards home.
Stephanie was still seated at the kitchen table when Tim arrived at the house, having apparently yet to clear away the cups from a surprise guest tea with her college girlfriend, who dropped in unexpectedly after receiving a confidential call just this morning.  Instead she was surveying absently out the window, running her finger along the rim of the mug, deep in thought.  Her eyes elevated upon his entrance, and she smiled.
“Hey.  Welcome home, honey~”
Tim crossed over and immediately answered her by leaning into a long, intimate kiss, to which she certainly didn’t object.
“Boy, considering I was throwing up in the toilet the last time we saw each other, you’re in an awfully adoring mood now.”  She made a whooshing motion in order to jog – jibe him.  “I mean, you just ran out of here like you saw some roadkill.”
Gulping, he cast a quick, knowing look towards the containers on the counter.
“Conner came to see me today too.”
“Oh, I see.”  Steph pouted, pushing him away.  “So that’s why you’re being so romantic all of a sudden.  You feel guilty for cheating on me, is that it?”
Tim gave a weak laugh, and wrapped his arms reassuringly around her.  They stayed like that for a while, his chin nesting gently on her golden crown as they admired the similarly-hued sunset.
“…I’m sorry for leaving you like that.  I… haven’t really been able to figure out how to react to all this.  If I should be happy, or terrified, or…”
She swiveled around, petting his jaw in forgiveness and understanding.  She could see from the shaded lines around his sockets how stressed out and scared he was.
“It’s okay to be both, you know.   I’m scared too.  When… I gave birth to my daughter, I had a dream that my dad came to take her away from me.  Even though he was supposedly ‘dead’ at the time, I was still so frightened he’d suddenly show up one day and claim her, train her to become a criminal like him.  …That’s part of why I gave her up for adoption.  I thought she deserved a better life – not one raised by the Cluemaster’s own dumb daughter, who went and got herself ‘preggers’ while still in high school by dating another loser deadbeat.”
Tim lowered himself down to her level, kneeling before her as he gripped her tautly balled knuckles.
“We’re not our parents, Steph.  You’re clever and kind and beautiful, plus the strongest – not to mention most stubborn – person I know.  You’re gonna be a great mom.  And I promise I’ll be here with you from now on, 100%.  Every step of the way.”
Her grasp unfurled, and he uplifted her tips, lips caressing in a courteous gesture that made her feel like a princess.  She smiled, and responded to the noble deed with a token of her own fondness to her templar’s temple.
“We’re gonna do this together,” she agreed.  “And we’ll be better.”
After a pregnant pause, she considered:
“Wait, so does this mean you’ll wait on me hand and foot now?”  A mischievous grin formed.  “‘Cuz if so, not to be cliché, but I’m really craving me some pickles dipped in mashed potatoes at the moment.”
Tim chuckled again.
“Whatever you desire, milady.”
“Hey, the little guy wants what it wants.”
At that, Tim tentatively reached out towards her tummy, and she indicated it was okay to touch, guiding his curious paw there.  He felt the softness of the fabric, well aware that a fetus wouldn’t be showing any signs of movement at this stage, but marveling at the notion there was indeed a life growing inside of there.  A life he helped to create, that he had – must have – experienced once (even if he couldn’t bring himself to recollect it anymore), nurtured and safeguarded against the harshness of the outside world.  Who knew nothing yet of pain or sadness – just how cruel the world could be – only pure, unadulterated love.
…And when his son is finally born and he holds that tiny, squirming life in his trembling palms for the very first time, he makes a vow: To protect that unpolluted innocence at all costs.  That he will never let anything bad happen to him; that his father will never abandon him.  …Urging him to cry all he can now, because there would eventually come a day when he can’t anymore – even if he wants to.  When he needs to be both brave and tough, and keep moving forward despite whatever difficulty he may encounter, make his own choice someday.
And yet… He feels tears rolling openly down his own ducts as the infant’s mother – his partner – family – rests against him, exhausted but elated.  He soon realizes his own weeping isn’t an expression of sorrow either… but one of joy.
And when they simultaneously ask Cassandra and Conner to be the baby’s godmother and father, respectively, the two are more than honored and glad to be of service.  …After all, they’re only returning the favor.

A House Is Not a Home
After what felt like years of stagnation and repeated lessons, life lurched forward in leaping bounds within the space of a month. More significant and life altering events occurred in such a short window that Lena barely had time to catch her breath before she was hurtling towards the next one.
Lena alongside all her dearest friends came together to bury William, honouring his final sacrifice and a life spent striving for truth.
Lena, only accompanied by Kara who insisted on being there despite Lena’s repeated assurances it wasn’t necessary, attended the sombre affair that was Lillian’s funeral.
Lena sat in a quiet lawyer’s office inheriting the entire Luthor empire on her own and feeling like each gift was merely another chink being added to the chains that bound her.
Lena attended a wedding, filled with laughter and joy, where she was asked to be a part of the family, to be linked to people that she never thought would find her deserving.
Lena held her best friend’s hand, sharing encouragement and declarations of love which still failed to fully reveal the depths of her feelings.
Lena watched on the other side of a camera as Kara smiled to the whole world and stepped out, as one person, into the sunlight.
Lena waved the new spouses goodbye as they flew off to two weeks on a tropical beach.
Lena nodded farewell to the young couple that had reunited after nearly losing each other.
Lena hugged her best friend and god-daughter good night before they skipped away to spend two weeks of aunt and niece bonding time together.
Lena sat in a dark and silent hotel room and asked herself: ‘Now what?’
There was no dust in the mansion.
It shouldn’t have surprised Lena - raised to see a constant retinue of servants in her periphery working hard to ensure not even a speck of dust settled on any surface. (The Luthors may have been harsh taskmasters but there was never any doubt that they paid well.)
It was the knowledge that the mansion had been unoccupied for years and that she had visited so sparingly over the last decade that made her expect musty, stale air and moth-worn fabrics. That wasn’t the case. There was no sign of age or deterioration to her once home. The place was identical to that day when she had packed her bags and headed to MIT, knowing full well that she had no intention of returning.
She arrived two weeks after the wedding, equipped with a singular suitcase and a backpack; all of her worldly possessions only just filling the two of them. She had lost the majority of her belongings when she had made Lex aware of her allegiance to the Superfriends. He had burned her favourite clothes, her beloved books and random trinkets down by the docks, sending her a video of the event which she watched one night in the tower on her own - solemnly cataloguing each item as one of Lex’s goons threw it into the ever expanding bonfire.
The mansion was hers now. Lillian had left it to her in her will. Had left everything to Lena, much to the young woman’s shock - Lex’s name not even warranting a mention in the detailed document. Lena hated how something petty like that had made her realise that Lillian truly did love her at the end.
It was this final declaration of love that had provided Lena a much needed destination and goal to latch onto: examining the last Luthor stronghold and suitably reviewing all its secrets before deciding what would become of it.
She let Kara know she was going out of town for a couple days and received a selfie of the blonde and her adorable niece pulling exaggerated puppy dog eyes at the camera which had nearly made Lena stay but the unbearable quiet of her hotel room drove away the warmth of the moment leaving her jittery and on edge.
xxx
She landed at Metropolis airport, an unassuming hybrid awaiting her to drive outside the city and to the tucked away Luthor estate which the mansion sat in the middle of.
It was an extraordinarily intimidating building, designed to imitate the stately European homes belonging to families with twisted and curling branches. It was a farce really, built during her father’s rise to wealth and power to create the illusion that the Luthors had always been there pulling the strings in the lost archives of history.
Dark wood and grim stone, stained glass windows that whilst pretty and full of character provided little protection against the elements. Lena frowned up at the building, ears pricking as the wind rustled through the leaves of the trees before taking a fortifying breath and heading inside.
Her room was bare, empty furniture living to serve a purpose - all traces of herself wiped clean and packed away. She dropped her bags there for the time being and spent her first evening reacquainting herself with the layout of the mansion - hand trailing over heavy drapes and stiff cushions, tapping against the spines of leatherbound classics that lined the walls. She peered into Lex’s old room but decided not to explore it too deeply - fully prepared for there to be traps which could catch her unawares. Lillian’s room was the biggest surprise, though obviously not used often over the last few years - the Luthors absconding to the other coast in a bid to rebuild their name - there was still plenty of personal details that revealed the room to be the most ‘lived in’ over the last few years. Pictures of their family rested on the dresser - Lena in her graduation gown, Lex and Lionel in suits on Lex’s first day at L-Corp and a far too staged photo at the Luthor Christmas gala before Lena made her final escape.
Tucked away in her walk-in wardrobe were boxes that housed no shoes, but mementos and trinkets that Lena had clearly left behind years ago but that Lillian hadn’t brought herself to throw out - meaningless certificates of participation from sports events and school reports that should have been recycled the day after they were marked.
Lena hadn’t known what to make of it - any of it.
Lillian who sneered with barely restrained contempt throughout her childhood, who would roll her eyes whenever Lena - still hopeful and eager to earn her new mother’s approval - presented the culmination of her hard work. She’d assumed the history of her childhood had gone the same way as most of her possessions - burned by her brother’s order if not directly by his hand. But here was her past protected and shielded by a woman who had cared so little for it when it was occurring right in front of her.
Maybe it was evidence that Lillian had more humanity than she claimed or evidence of a woman’s guilt over her actions towards a small child or… and Lena hated herself for wishing it was this more than any other… it was a mother cherishing her daughter’s life and creations.
Lena went to bed, head aching and chest tight with poorly restrained emotions.
She spent the next day going through the boxes of her childhood - ignoring her original reason for coming and the tight deadline she had set herself.
She needed to go through the objects in each room and take a comprehensive inventory so that she could best decide what to do with everything and the building as a whole. She slept late into the morning the day after re-familiarising herself with hallmarks of her childhood, relishing the quiet even as the house stirred dark memories that kept her sleep light and somewhat fretful.
She decided to start in the main living room but got distracted by a first edition Alice in Wonderland on one of the bookshelves. It was late into the evening and she had started on Oliver Twist when she realised that she had failed to achieve a single one of the tasks she had planned to complete. There were no servants or housekeepers aligned to the mansion, Lillian’s death had ended their contracts and Lena hadn’t re-offered them due to the house’s uncertain future.
She cooked for herself - an activity she hadn’t completed for months, subsisting on continental breakfasts at the hotel and takeout at the tower. She took her time with it and indulged, eating at the counter that her and Lex used to on mornings over the summer holidays.
She finished Oliver Twist in bed and already had Great Expectations ready for herself to read the next day.

Joining The Superfriends - 1
Tumblr media
Summary:
Lena has finally had it with her brother and her family, unable to sit back and turn a blind eye to the terrible things they are doing. She quits working at Luthor Corp and moves to National City, intent on making a name for herself outside of her family.
At the same time, The Superfriends are on the look out for a new engineer/IT person so when Lena stumbles across the position on a job site, she applies, having no clue what she's getting herself into.
Lena Luthor has learnt to do many things in her short life. She has more degrees than the average person and she has interests in every corner of the academic world but there is a new topic for her to study, one that she’s been putting off for too long and now. She needs to take the bull by the horns and take it head on.
She needs to learn how to be a normal person.
After spending way too long standing in the shadow of her psychopathic family, she’s finally taken the leap. She’s quit Luthor Corp, for good. She’s packing to move away from Metropolis and is aiming for a fresh start in National City, now she’s got to figure out what she’s going to do when she gets there.
She has no money of her own, used to using her personal card connected to the Luthor fortune that has now been cancelled so she has no access to those funds. She has one account in her own name but it doesn’t have much money in it, just enough to get her to National City and cover her first couple of months’ rent on a cheap place, and she can’t afford to be picky about the apartment.
Her first goal for when she gets there is to find a job, something to pay her rent after those couple of months, keep her living anywhere but in one of the many Luthor properties, somewhere that is hers and hers alone.
The one thing she’s always dreamed of it’s finally moving away and leaving her wretched family behind but she’s never had the balls to do it, to make take the leap and decide that enough is enough and she wants nothing to do with them anymore.
Well, last night she finally did it, she officially resigned from her position in the science labs in Luthor Corp after finding out that Lex was manipulating her designs and experiments to use them to make weapons to kill aliens and selling them on, all whilst leaving the designs under her name, setting her up to take the fall if it ever gets discovered.
That was the final straw. In the moment that she stumbled across Lex rooting through her filing cabinets and conducting his shady business late last night when he thought she had already left, not knowing that she had an incredible idea for a new piece of medical equipment earlier in the evening that spurred her to stay late.
The words left her mouth before she even thought it through. “I quit. You can keep this cesspit of a company to yourself.”
Lex didn’t even put up a fight, just let her know that everything that she had designed up until that point is considered the intellectual property of Luthor Corp and to leave her key card on the front desk on her way out.
She did exactly that, clutching her little succulent off her desk to her chest on the way out, her head held high.
Thinking back to that moment just a few hours ago, she wishes she had thought it through, exposed Lex for what he was doing or made a better exit strategy for herself so she wouldn’t be left scrambling to land on her feet but what’s done is done.
She has her plane ticket already booked with built up airmiles she’s accrued going to science conventions and she even managed to book a couple of time slots to view some potential apartments, tiny ones that are clearly not on the good side of town but she needs cheap and she doesn’t want a roommate so she isn’t going to complain about the size or lack of style.
Lena’s really hoping to find a job right away so she can get some money behind her and then move to a better place, trying to be careful with her money but that’s where her problem lies: she has no idea how to deal not having enough money, she doesn’t want to use a credit card because while she has one, the Luthor’s financial advisor has always been very clear on how to use it and she’s heard horror stories from him about poor people getting into debt that they can never pay back, she’s not going that route. Lex probably had that card cancelled as well anyway.
She’s really glad that she has her own account to fall back on, it hasn’t been touched in a couple of years, designed for when she planned her first escape from her family that she never went through with so she only ever made two deposits into.
Now, with all of her most important things packed up into just three suitcases, she’s spending her last night in a fancy penthouse before she jets off to a life of normalcy, a life of freedom.
Her eyes blur as she stares at the spreadsheet open in front of her, trying to come up with a budget to live off of but she doesn’t even know how much groceries cost so it’s proving difficult. She’s just going to have to play it by ear and pray that she’ll be able to muddle through somehow.
When it all becomes too much, the numbers all swirling across the screen and her head feeling too heavy for her shoulders, she closes her laptop and sinks her head down into her hands, it’s time for one last suitcase check to make sure she has everything she needs and then it’s time to try and get a couple of hours sleep before she has to leave for the airport.
Lena notes that while her body numb, and her brain is tired, there is a newfound sense of freedom that she’s never had before, a weight off her shoulders that she’d never fully acknowledged the existence of until she shook it off.
Of the three suitcases she has, one and a half are clothes and the other one and a half are full of her important documents, books, electronics and keepsakes she has been given over the years from Sam and Jack. She’ll miss them but knows that they’ll be overjoyed when she calls them from the airport in the morning, unwilling to call them at three in the morning and interrupt their sleep.
She looks over the cases and then at her desk before smuggling her succulent amongst her clothes is, the one thing that has touched Luthor Corp that she’ll be keeping because she named him Antonio and has gotten too emotionally attached to leave him behind.
Just as she is zipping up her last suitcase after confirming that she has all of her documents a last minute thought pops into her head. She should probably pack some food, just in case.
There is just enough space in her suitcase for her to jam in a couple of boxes of mac and cheese. She’s not even going to touch the canned food in her cupboards, she’s already going to have to pay more than she wants to for the weight of her books in her luggage, she doesn’t want to add to that.
She zips her suitcase up once she’s successfully jammed the food in, happy that she’ll have something to eat for at least a couple of days if everything goes awry.
She crawls into bed and closes her eyes, spending the last few minutes of wakefulness imagining the life that she’s about to step into, a life where she can be anyone other than another evil Luthor.
-
For the first time in her life, Lena slept in a motel. It really wasn’t as bad as she expected it to be. Sure there was stains on every surface and she had to shove a chair under the doorhandle because she didn’t trust the lock, but overall, it wasn’t as bad as she was expecting.
She got off her early morning flight and headed right for the motel, having already replanned where to go while she was waiting in the airport for her flight. She stored her luggage there and freshened up before catching a bus, also for the first time ever, across town to look at some vacant apartments.
Lena isn’t really sure how they can be classified as apartments since they are little more than a kitchen, bathroom and one extra room that you could just about fit both a bed and a couch into so it doubles as a living room and a bedroom. She put a deposit on the second one she looked at on the spot and was told that she can move her things in two days later and get the keys.
The only reason she passed up on the first one and chose the second one is that while they are essentially the same, the second one has a bathtub with a shower installed instead of just a shower cubicle so small that she won’t be able to turn around in it.
When she wasn’t out sorting her future (hopefully temporary) home, she was trawling through job sites, sending off her resume and in between job searching she was scrubbing at the unidentified stains on the motel surfaces to take her mind off of everything. She raided the supply closet down the hall from the reception area since it was unlocked and took everything she needed to get it cleaner than it has been in what is obviously years.
Despite spending all day every day in the motel room applying for what few jobs there are in her field, she still hasn’t heard anything back from any of them even with her impressive list of qualifications. Not so much as a peep.
And now she’s sat in her mostly empty new apartment, still on her laptop trying to find more jobs to apply for. She may just have to look for something out of her field. Lena has to admit that she never imagined herself thinking of applying for a coffee shop gig but it might just come down to that, she can only afford one more months’ rent, especially after she went out earlier to buy herself a mattress, and bedsheets, it was way more expensive than she ever thought it would be but call her snobby all you want, she’s not sleeping on the floor.
Since there’s only the mattress and her suitcases in the whole place, the tiny apartment actually looks a decent size, for now at least but with no couch or chairs, Lena has no choice but to sit herself down on the mattress on the floor to continue with her search.
Lena stares over at Antonio, who she perched on top of her stack of books that she unpacked then rolls onto her stomach and focuses her eyes onto her laptop screen then she refreshes the job site for what must be at least the tenth time today with her fingers crossed.
Nothing new shows up so with a heavy heart she goes to the search bar to find other jobs that she could take in the meantime. Lena’s emerald eyes scan through the suggested list of positions to search for and land on IT.
While she has never specifically worked in IT before, she is proficient with a computer and is excellent at coding, although none of her qualifications directly match up with the role, she might be able to find something to get her by until she can find a better gig elsewhere.
With a steady finger she clicks on the little tab and scans the new list containing all the IT jobs going in the area.
Lena clicks her tongue on the roof of her mouth rhythmically as she scrolls the page down to take a better look at what’s available. There’s not much but definitely more than what she was looking at before she widened her search.
After a brief glance at the listings she begins her applications, sending off her resume and filling out any questionnaires that are required in order to apply, as pointless and boring as some of them seem to be.
There is one particular listing that catches her eye though, one that she isn’t too sure about but is going to apply for anyway. She rereads it a couple of times, not entirely sure about it because it seems a little bit sketchy but she goes through with it anyway.
They are advertising an IT support position but in the description it states that any experience in engineering and/or mechanics would be helpful.
That alone certainly jingles her bells because it would suit her well but the company is listed for is titled: John Jones, Private Investigator.
What is that PI doing that would require him to need an IT support that has a background involving engineering or mechanics? It makes sense for them to need IT support, most companies do, but the other things? Is the boss just really into his cars or something?
The questions are not stopping her from sending off her resume with a click and listening to the little swooshing sound her laptop makes as it sends. Maybe if she hears back from them she’ll get a few answers.
Her thoughts are brushed aside fairly quickly in favour of applying to the rest of the jobs she’s found, around ten or so different ones, and then putting her laptop aside so she can get some rest for her busy day tomorrow where she’ll be…applying for more jobs, or if she’s lucky, she’ll be doing some research on how to impress during a job interview.
