Itachi before and after his battle with Sasuke.

What breaks my heart here is how completely changed he looks from the beginning to the end. He's very much composed, keeping up his 'evil' façade in front of Sasuke before the battle. But as soon as he's closer to his death, he drops the mask. And with it he lets go of his composure, too. It's like, the rain has also washed away all his apprehension, maybe it's the death that did, and he can finally be himself.

You can clearly see all his vulnerability and physical weakness, and he resembles a child here (too much weight loss, I guess). He looks like someone who is free from all the burdens and pains, and while he was living, all of it was physically draining for him. As though the prolonged pain had changed his physical appearance too. Like, he couldn’t ever express himself until here. And imo, this is the real him. Broken and vulnerable and someone who probably never grew up past the age of 13.

Knights, Kings, & Queens♟

Ok @luckydragon10, you inspired me with that chess post so I’m going to attempt to tackle this knight discussion as best as I can because I do agree that their placement seems somewhat peculiar. I will undoubtedly go off on a few chess tangents in this post, so I’ll apologize in advance.

Usually, the knights are facing forward, toward the opponent. More than likely, the pieces were set up facing Kim simply to show them off, but because chess plays such a symbolic role in Korn’s plans, I think their positioning is notable to emphasize Kim in relation to the knight piece specifically. (Hopefully you won’t mind if I use your original picture from your post.)

So far, we seem to have established that Porsche is the queen piece and Kinn is the king piece because, while Kinn receives protection and remains the focus of the game, Porsche leads this protection. Also, not to get too far off, but I would argue that the queen piece is the main character of the game because she is the most powerful piece; that being said, she also needs protection because, while it’s possible to win without her, it becomes much more difficult for the king to stay protected. All of this aligns with Kinn and Porsche as characters so far. KP are both main characters, but Porsche gets the limelight in the context of the show while Kinn gets the limelight in the context of his world within the show. Porsche is more of a traditional main character because his struggles are more typical of standard protagonists (not to say Kinn isn’t a main character, but I think this distinction is worth making).

Before I get into Kim and knights, I’m going to break this down a little clearer based on my own conclusions about the character-chess symbols:

Kinn: King

Porsche: Queen

Korn: Player

Kim: Knight

*Going by these matches, I would say Vegas is the opposing king and Pete (eventually) the opposing queen? But Pete is currently on Kinn’s side, so we’ll have to wait and see how this match pans out. *EDIT: @cornyonmains made an interesting post about the potential for Pete representing the bishop piece, which you can read about more here.

Kim as a Knight

So, Kim as a knight. Inside and outside of chess, knights are defenders of the crown. I was originally inclined to name bodyguards like Arm, Ken, and Big as knights in this metaphor, but reading your post made me think about just how much Kim suits this piece.

Unlike pawns, knights have resources that others do not have. They work in service of the crown, but they are afforded a level of respect that other defenders do not typically receive. So far, this aligns with Kim as the third son of the mafia. He has resources and status. Knights are also often well-trained; good ones learn the weaknesses of their enemies before striking. Finally, knights are not in the spotlight. They defend behind the scenes, as Kim seems to be doing. A devoted knight would reasonably do some digging into his king’s allies. Kim probably assumes that Porsche is a traitorous knight (notice I say knight instead of pawn, though I could also see Porsche as a rook in Kim’s eyes) who could easily gain power and retaliate against Kinn—that’s one of the reasons why he has decided to investigate him (in addition to trying to unveil his father’s secrets). I think Kim would be even more passionate about his investigation if he knew that Porsche was actually the queen. Kim doesn’t realize how closely connected Kinn and Porsche are; otherwise, I wonder if he would take more concrete action to warn Kinn about Porsche (even though the audience knows that he has no reason for concern about Porsche’s motives). It also makes me wonder just how much Kim knows about Kinn’s past relationship with Tawan. Could that be one of the reasons why Kim is so devoted to learning more about Porsche—to protect his brother from another betrayal? I think his efforts would make even more sense if he knew what happened to Kinn before.

Bringing this all back to the chess metaphor: Kim as a knight is unique. Knights are the only piece that move in an ‘L’ formation, capable of hopping over other pieces. How does this relate to Kim? Well, Kim’s storyline feels very separate from the rest of the plot, and I think this is why. The settings and mood all feel different, very loosely connected to the main plot. Kim is (at least in my opinion from what we know) trying to weed out potential issues, but he’s doing so at a distance 1) because it’s safer and probably more fruitful and 2) because we know he really doesn’t want to be involved in the mafia life if he doesn’t have to. It’s better this way.

Korn as the player

Now, to bring Korn back into this. As the player, he has control of all pieces; however, we’ve seen him steadily lose control over the past few episodes. Kim has gone rogue in his attempts to dig into Porsche’s background and Kinn consistently pushes against Korn’s orders by pursuing Porsche. Korn’s greatest fear at this point is losing control, but I think he’s beginning to realize how quickly it’s slipping away from him. I suspect he will take stronger action soon to retaliate (like he did when he sent Porsche to work with Vegas in Ep7).

Ok, as promised, I went off quite a few times, but this is my general interpretation of Kim as a knight in the chess metaphor. I’ll probably think of more connections later, but hopefully this made some sort of sense. The chess metaphor is ultimately so fruitful that it would be a shame not to dive into it at every opportunity. It’s not completely straightforward, but I think there are some natural connections we can make. :)

I believe some have in canon, but here's how I think their first encounters would go down in my sort of...headcanon...au....thing.

also apologies for varying art quality ill probably just do doodles in the future idk. ill figure it out

so first we have suns....

Well...unfortunately the poor unlucky scav that wandered into sun's can caught them at a very bad time. They had just lost contact with their messenger and their close friend they had been trying to help... Suns was not very happy about it.

As for Pebbles....I like to think Scav King was brave enough to enter his chamber.

Pebbs gave them the mark hoping they would tell their friends to leave, but.....

Sadly that didn't work out. He was also not in a good mood!

As for Moon....

Sadly, her first experiences with scavengers were very disappointing. They aren't much for conversation, and they don't like listening either. It's crushingly lonely when you don't have anyone to talk to.

But....

Eventually, some scavengers wandered in that just enjoyed listening to the sound of her voice and enjoying her company. She is very grateful for them...I like to think they have become good friends, even if they can't quite understand each other.

As for NSH....

They may have gotten into some....mischief.

But don't worry! They're just a silly prankster! A harmless jokester!

Just ignore any remnants of their failed experiments.

I like to think NSH would be very interested in the scavs. They'd probably think they're super entertaining, lol. Constantly sending the GC stupid scav pics.

Summary: Danny has always had more internet access than a child really should have had. He tended to spend that time on game forums and different websites dedicated to space. Everyone once in a while he'd venture onto one about heroes and villains. That's how he met Tim Drake-Wayne or BatShadow as was his username back then.

Chapter 1: Blorbo Supplier

Danny just wanted to see uncommon pictures of Superman. It really shouldn't have been this hard. He's an alien, there should be a lot of pictures of him. Frustrated with his lack of results he resorts to looking for the pictures through unpopular social media websites that should have new pictures. His first look didn't meet his goal, and before he could even think of trying again he was distracted by a post. It was a picture of a figure swinging between skyscrapers, backlit by neon light all against a smog filled sky. It was stunning and made all the more captivating by the identity of the subject in the photo. A picture of Batman, The Batman, taken in a way that you couldn't deny it was him. That was impressive on its own, but the quality is what made it shine. Danny had to see if the account had more pictures of Batman, or even other heroes. Looking at the blog, hoping it wasn't a deactivated user, he finds the posts of BatShadow.

The blog is a gold mine of pictures of Batman and Robin with some villains the duo we're fighting. All with stunning quality, with each subject undeniable as who they were but still giving a sense of privacy. Sadly, Danny couldn't find any other heroes pictured, but Danny could live with that. Batman was his third favorite hero, he blames Sam and all her knowledge on the edgy and obscure. She would be ecstatic about these photos, too bad he wasn't going to tell her. He was being petty. Sam should have known better than to say he couldn't keep a secret, so this is his secret now! Pettiness aside, Danny was going to message BatShadow to see if they had pictures of other heroes they hadn't posted.

Danny continued talking to BatShadow about pictures and superheroes. Eventually switching to personal interest. Danny learns that BatShadow skateboards and in turn he tells them all about the stars. By the end of their conversation it was well into the night, Jazz wasn't going to be pleased. It was worth it though.

Danny ended up messaging again the next day, and the day after that. The other user was interesting and he was just so broad. Especially during these long summer days where Sam was off at some gala trip and Tucker was on vacation with his family. His parents being busy in the Lab at all hours and Jazz working a summer job didn't help. Even with Jazz trying to get him out of the house but it never really was worth it. Not with Dash and his gaggle out. Not without his friends there.

It's not like anyone besides Jazz would care about what he was doing online. Their parents were too caught up in drawing out plans and blueprints for a ghost portal or something. He doesn't care, it's more of the same for him. Don't get him wrong, he loved his parents and they loved him. They just pay more attention to their inventions, and this one happens to be one Danny can't help out with.

He's getting distracted. Danny was supposed to be cleaning the lab, not thinking of long gone days. It was taking way longer than he thought it would. His parents really aren't as careful with their samples as they really should be. After cleaning spilled ectoplasm from the vent grates he will finally be done, then he can get on the computer and add BatShadow on Steam. They were going to play Portal 2 together later.

Tim didn't think he would still be talking to ConstellationCruiser. It was unexpected, but not unwelcome. He wouldn't admit it to anyone, (if there was anyone to talk to in the first place), but he was lonely. So, sue him if he got attached to the other kid with too much free time on their hands. They may not have told each other their ages but it wasn't hard to figure out, they talked too similar.

It was nice to really connect with someone his age. ConstellationCruiser was smart like him, just in different areas. He had learned more about the stars and space travel in the last handful of months than he ever had in his 12 years of life. He knows he wasn't any better, going on about hacking and maybe the new murder mystery that came out. It was fun, learning about the other's interests and different things than what's normal for them.

ConstellationCruiser's parents seem to have some type of lab in the basement of their house, which was cool in concept but concerning in practice. There have been times where they had to stop in the middle of a game they were playing together to check on an explosion they heard. It happened more than Tim was comfortable with but there's nothing he can really do about it. It's not like he was anyone better about certain aspects of his life either. He avoided the topic of food as much as possible, though it seems ConstellationCruiser is doing the same thing with the topic.

Tim just hopes the other won't worry over him not responding the next couple of days. He probably should warn them but this is time sensitive. Batman needs a Robin. The man is running himself into the ground. His new found grief choking him and by extension Gotham. He has to convince Nightwing to come back, no matter what it takes.

♡ there was palpable tension between the two of you to LITERALLY anyone else. you were clueless, but it's not like he made a point to hide how he stared at you while you performed some mundane task he'd assigned you to. You weren't aware until a specific interaction occurred-

♡ you'd finished up with your main errands and had set everything up for his next client, so you went to innocently ask if there was anything else you could do to help him out. He responded with

"if you really wanna help me, you'd be on your fuckin' knees under this desk."

♡ wow!

♡ well. You're the one who asked the question, and you're never one to decline when he orders you around. You wanted to please him, you really didn't wanna lose this apprenticeship :(( (you had no idea about the deal between Nicholas and your father, mind you.)

♡ this interaction led to a new dynamic. If you were done with whatever bullshit quest he'd sent you on, you're at his side like a lost puppy. He'd taken to nicknaming you that anyway since you were glued to his side most days and just "looked so pretty on the floor"

♡ he's gross!! I hate him!!! (This is a lie I would die for him)

♡ any time Nicholas was at his desk drawing up concepts for a new client, you were sat underneath and settled between his legs. He claimed it helped him focus but in reality it did the opposite.

The fan standing in front of her grabbed the billowing fabric and Henry could feel his hand being gripped tight - the signal she gave when she was starting to panic. "Darling, can you just nod to tell me you're okay?" Her eyes had glazed over and the grip on his hand was tighter than ever. By the time Henry opened the car door, she was as pale as a ghost.

He felt so guilty. Turning his attendance at San Diego Comic-Con into a mini vacation had seemed like a good idea, a chance for them both to spend some quality time together after he'd been away the last several months filming. But although he'd researched the route beforehand and taken care not to be recognised, four fans had stopped them in the space of twenty minutes and even he was beginning to feel stressed. Henry was sure they wouldn't need their bodyguard, Steve, for a simple trip to the beach, but the place was just too busy for him to move about unseen. He attempted to change the subject. "You know my brother sent me a video of Kal this morning, guess what he was doing?" Henry looked over and found she had her eyes closed. "Darling, are you feeling sick? Do I need to pull over?" "What's going on? Henry, what's happening?!" He'd hoped she hadn't noticed the flash, but unfortunately, the quick change in speed and direction gave her another reason to panic.

"Darling take some breaths, we're almost at the hotel, okay?"

"Henry, you're not answering me, what's going on? Is someone chasing us?!" She looked in the rearview mirror and started hyperventilating.

Henry called out her name three times, tried ringing her twice, and then resorted to phoning the front desk to see if she had actually checked out and gone elsewhere. But all they could confirm was that she'd arrived just before him. Henry sighed and placed the phone back into the receiver. A terrifying thought then entered his head and he dashed onto the balcony, hoping against hope that he wouldn't find her there.

Henry breathed a sigh of relief when he slid back the doors and found the space out there empty. But where had she gone? Surely she wouldn't leave without coming back to their suite first? He crossed into their bedroom, hoping to get changed before he went out to look for her, and noticed what he thought was a noise coming from their ensuite. Tentatively, he pushed back the door. "Oh, darling…" There she lay, curled up in a ball next to the bath, sobbing. Henry planned his next movements carefully. Firstly, he turned off the bathroom light, leaving the room bathed in the glow from the hallway. Next, he plucked a towel from the rail above him and placed it carefully over her body.

When her cries became less desperate, Henry laid down beside her and gently ran his hand up and down her back. He kept his voice soft and low. "There we are, you're doing so good for me, sweetheart. I should have done more--" she gave a soft sigh and placed her hands on the arms he'd wrapped around her waist.

"You do a lot--"

"But not on this occasion. God I can't believe I was so stupid, I should have got you out of there--"

"It's fine. If anything I've failed you. If I was stronger, I'd be able to cope better--"

"What are you talking about? You have every right to feel upset. And you cope fantastically--"

"Clearly not or I wouldn't fall apart like this! We can't carry on like this, Henry. You need someone who can properly support you. All I am is a burden--"

"Stop right there." Henry hopped to his feet and quickly pulled her up with him. "Now you listen to me, you never have been and never will be a burden--"

"But it's my fault! No one should be cornering you in the street, putting their hands on you, or asking questions. It's my job to keep that part of my life separate and I need to do a better job from now on." She gazed into his pale blue eyes and shook her head.

"And what if it's not enough? What if this lifestyle just isn't me?" Henry smiled at her sadly.

"Well, it's hardly me, either. But that's why we're so good for each other, darling. We're each other's safe space. I don't ever want you to think how you react under stress is wrong or too much--"

"But it is!"

"Well, not to me because you're everything to me! And you have my word, I won't ever put you in that situation again." He then turned to the sink and ran a hand towel under the tap. "Here, let me put this on your wrists--"

"Why? What will that do?"
