Now and then, I get reminded of how Marie Kondo was treated by White people online and get really angry about it.
Like, think about it. For such a long time, due to slavery and colonialism, women of colour have been tidying up after White people. Women of colour cooked their meals, took care of their children, and cleaned their houses. And yet, and yet! Women of colour have never been considered trailblazers and celebrities in these industries. Think about who gets to be celebrity chefs, who gets to be the face of home makeover shows, who gets to capitalise off being lifestyle coaches?? But when a woman of colour becomes a prominent forerunner in home organisation, and suddenly, White pple have problems with it??

another thing that's exhausting about the star wars fandom is how there's literally dozens of think pieces about how Sabine can't possibly force sensitive????
Like I'm only 3 pages in the ahsoka tag and already I've seen like 6 anti jedi sabine posts? Like can we talk about how freaking anti asian racism that is?
can we talk about how the actress for sabine is literally Asian?
Tumblr media
(sidenote this was the only live action sabine gif I found and of course its freaking shinbine i'm gonna kms)
anyways this franchise is nearly 50 years old and they just now got an asian actor to be a Jedi????? even though lucas wanted toshiro mifune to be Obi Wan Kenobi???
because the Jedi are literally an orientalist amalgamation but in space????
i'm so angry rn.

What makes the marvels hate even more frustrating is that people aren't just giving black and brown superheroines a chance but they also won't give female directors of color a chance. First Cathy Yan, then Chloe Zhao and now Nia DaCosta, and yet directors like Joss Whedon and James Gunn still get praised for their involvement in superhero films
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So yeah qwhite interesting how comic book fans refuse to show up for female directors of color.

Okay, this is gonna sound like a real dumb ask, but I just sorta need the sanity check on this. I've got a friend who hated the Marvels but thinks the Barbie movie was the best feminist movie ever made. Am I being an ass by being COMPLETELY squicked out by these reactions??? Because it just feels super hinky and Not Good? As far as opinions go. Like...I don't know, it feels wrong. Also, she loved Black Panther but said that the women in it weren't given good characterization and idk writing this out made me realize I probably need to drop this person from my life.
Would that make me an ass? (I'm asking the mods here because I feel like, as someone who's white, I am WAY outta my depth on my analysis of this situation but I could be right that her preferences feel/are lowkey racist.)
So ok first of all I'm not black and I do have lightskinned privilege (mestiza latina). I say that because I invite my co mod who is Black to weigh in on this and all our Black followers to weigh in too.
One thing that you could do is maybe start updating any social media this friend is on with stuff about racialized misogyny/misogynoir. Specifically like this video that I made with the help of a Black friend.
youtube
I personally don't know if you have the energy to watch Black Panther 2 with her but like I get saying that the women in the first Black Panther were underwritten (by white feminism standards at least I personally loved them all and I particularly enjoyed that T'challa respected all the women in his life).
Like ok I haven't seen Barbie but honestly it really pissed me off that it seems to have been trying to fill like quotas for diversity instead of making a genuine effort to center woc. Like ok there's this post on tumblr with screencaps of life size (which was a disney movie about a doll that comes to life to help her owner) and the point is that Tyra Banks starred as the doll. It was made in 2000 and like honestly??? Why is it that we couldn't have had someone like Ella Balinska as Barbie?
Tumblr media
She's tall she's statuesque and she totally deserves a shot at a hit movie. (also ngl she reminds me of Tyra Banks in Life Size).
Anyways I'm getting off topic...
Basically what I'm trying to say is that yes cutting off this so called friend is an option. but you can't just get rid of her without trying to show her the error of her ways. if you don't try to teach her how she's wrong she might never learn how to unpack her privilege and become an ally she'll become one of those Karens that calls the cops on Black people for simply existing in her presence!
Like I know this is asking a lot but consider for once what it's like to see white people give up on their racist friends and family and not even try to teach them how to do better??? if you want to know how to be an ally this is how you do it!!! you put the work in to teach your friend to be a better person.

a quote retweet by someone with a Legend of Korra icon for her profile picture. The original tweet that is being quoted is part of a thread by a Twitter account named “small robots.” It reads, “The same people who think defining ‘woman’ is easy also think Caster Semenya isn't one due to the results of elaborate medical tests.”
Her quote retweet reads, “I keep saying: despite their assurances to the contrary, cis society knows four genders: [bullet-pointed] man, woman, not man enough, not woman enough.” She replies to her quote retweet: “Insistence, not assurance, tbh.”

tiktok has been hating on the live action snow white's actress so much lately.
weird how when beauty and the beast came out, Belle's actress said many similar things and i haven't seen half the criticism for her. why could that be 🤔
I'm sorry but I don't remember what Emma watson said but like I think this has a good rundown of the situation of why Zegler has pissed off so many ppl.

I genuinely wish we could get more posts where white feminism is utterly roasted. I'll be sure to collect a jug for the white woman tears that we're sure to see. 😈
I'll start filling the jug!
White feminism is fucking bullshit and only proves that white women don't see women of color as worthy of fighting and advocating for and that they only see themselves as true women, evidenced by the fact that they call misogyny anytime somebody calls them out on their shit, as if they're not the misogynistic ones for bullying, harassing, and demeaning women of color. This is especially true if they're cis. Not to mention white women pride themselves on their white femininity despite claiming that femininity oppresses them(doubly so if they're TERFs), because they are threatened by Black women's femininity and try to masculinize us and force us into the Strong Black Woman role while pretending it is empowering when really they are trying to beat us down to prop themselves up and they know it. Just like they know damn well that they can and will burst into tears once we call them out on their horseshit and expect everyone else to buy it which sadly often is the case. Finally, it's just annoying the way they try to expose us to racism all the time even when it has nothing to do with us as if we are their fucking racism attack dog(I swear there was a post on this somewhere before, something something "go girl bite bite bite!") and say shit like "women only make 77 cents on the dollar for what men make!" ignoring that Black and brown women make even less, thus proving that they don't see us as women and just ignore all our issues. White women think that advocating for just them is enough and the rest of us will follow in their lead. Be grateful when a strong female protagonist is white, at least she's female, so we're getting somewhere. That's what truly matters.
*start shaking the jug*

We have “come across verbal and physical abuse of Roma in hospitals by medical staff in several countries but notably Bulgaria, Ukraine, North Macedonia, and Romania. This disproportionately affects Romani women and girls, particularly mothers in labour, who face both abuse and malpractice from health-care professionals”, Lee explained. Research by the ERRC and others in Bulgaria and Hungary found Roma women in different hospitals reporting physical abuse during their stay in the maternity ward. “Across both countries, Romani women told us that they thought that no one would believe them, even if they shared these experiences”, he said.
[...]
Governments have also been responding to historic abuses against Roma women. From the 1960s to the mid-2000s, thousands of Roma women were coerced or forced into sterilisation or unknowingly sterilised without consent during health-care visits in the former Czechoslovakia and subsequently the Czech Republic and Slovakia. In 2009, the Czech Government apologised to Roma women for this abusive practice and promised compensation. As of Nov 24, 2022, compensation has been awarded to 171 of 474 women who have applied. But campaigners highlight the lack of government resources for speeding up the compensation process, with many women waiting for months without a response. “There has also been no community outreach on the part of the government to help women navigate the process for compensation, relying instead on the capacities of local civil society organisations to do this”, Lee reports. Others are more hopeful about progress. de Jong notes that part of the Czech Republic's Roma inclusion strategy is “devoted to compensation for sterilisation, so they’re aware of this; they’re working on it”. However, the situation has received less attention in Slovakia. Although the Slovak Government officially apologised to Roma women for unlawful sterilisation in November, 2021, they have not announced a plan for compensation. “When I looked into the Slovak Roma inclusion strategy, there is no mention of sterilisation, so they don’t have any policy set up yet to compensate these women for what's been done to them…What we’re obviously hoping is the government will also be taking the same steps that the Czech Government is taking currently”, said de Jong.

Sometimes, I think about how Oprah Winfrey and Marie Kondo are always on the receiving end of white people's vitriol or criticism or mockery, and I want to punch into drywall. It really shows how women of color who succeed by their own merits, who by all means abide by respectability politics (Winfrey and Kondo are both traditionally feminine cis-het women, and they have never publicly misbehaved) will still be subjected to harsh public scrutiny. It's never enough for the white gaze.

A rdfem post got recommended to me because apperantly i hadn't been careful enough(at least i got a free blocklist out of it)and the very first line was so out of pocket stupid even by t/erf standards-Their idea of 'women forcing themselves to be presentable' was fucking acrylic nails.Obviously this is stupid period but acrylics are a fashion statement that was created by and continued and mostly influenced by to this day by BLACK WOMEN.It's a way of expressing ourselves,an art even,it's NEVER been about fitting into men's standards and in fact that's always been the opposite intended effect!!They're about what makes US happy, not anybody else
And that's just the thing rdfam always do-They make everything about men and their hatred of woc, black women especially and EVEN MORE SO TRANS women. It's never been about liberating women,it's about policing us.We can't be kiddy and pastel and bubbly and chaotic and indie and hopeless romantics who want to get the princess treatment,we're doing it for men 'even if we don't know it'(an actual thing one of them said to me on my post explaining that my brand of femininity comes from my kind of autism and their idea of 'real womanhood' was The Handmaiden and i WISH i was a kidding)and as if lesbians and aroace women who're like me in this aspect don't exist and they do and three of them are close friends of mine and have also talked about bullshit this is-And yes,all three of them are also woc,one pakistani and two black
And apperantly,we can't be edgy and rowdy and cocky and bitter and blunt and alt and and butch and uninterested in actively pursuing romance either because then we're 'too much like men and not really women so we might as well stop calling ourselves ones'.If we have brown skin or heavy body hair or big noses or other dark and strong features,we have 'biological faults' or whatever the fuck and they brag about hating men until someone realizes they're not a man but a woman and wanna physically and socially transition to feel like one to their full happiness they want them to be men instead. They sexually harras people, they invalidate mspec women for loving men AND lesbians for not liking women 'correctly' according to them because they love nonbinary women and transfems AND rentlessly mock aroace women for not feeling attraction by calling them losers and they don't even draw the line at kids. They use all kinds of slurs and ableist rethoric and are exactly two tippy toes steps away from being t/radwives
Nobody's more obsessed with ruining womanhood than rdfems except chauvinists and even then, they're just another variant of them that happen to have less political power. You're not an ancient greek goddess in women's history, you're grown ass women obsessed with genitals and gaslighting vulnerable young girls into your minions. You know nothing about girlhood and you won't learn until you get all those boots out of your mouths you're choking so hard on you can't speak anything but bullshit

FROM BIRTH TO DEATH, Black Americans fare worse in measures of health compared to their white counterparts. They have higher rates of infant and maternal mortality, higher incidence of asthma during childhood, more difficulty treating mental health as teens, and greater rates of high blood pressure, Alzheimer's disease and other illnesses.
The Associated Press spent the past year exploring how the legacy of racism in America has laid the foundation for the health inequities that Black people face.

Is there a term for inadvertent racism specifically in fanfiction?
Don’t know if you’ve heard of The Rookie but there’s an interracial couple nicknamed Chenford, Lucy’s Chinese and Tim’s white. Oh my god fans have managed to use every single racist trope in the book when it comes to fanfics about these two!
I can’t even say it’s intentional because every other fic turned Lucy into a submissive Asian wallflower that white man Tim dominates in the perversely sexually ways. They’re nothing like this in the show, Lucy is more assertive and takes charge, I feel if she was white fans would’ve called out how ooc ffs make her. But because she’s Asian suddenly it makes complete sense that she’s submits to a white man.
It just creeps me out how even when a tv show goes out of their way to destroy Asian stereotypes fans write them in anyway.
So I've been in fandom for like 20 years now. But these blogs are nearly a decade old. And while it's important to call out these fandom tendencies it's not really useful to try and coin new terms for what is plain old racism. What's happening in your fandom is not unique to your fandom ofc. But use the regular terms like racialized misogyny and anti Asian racism. Fandom racism is the status quo and to come up with new terms is to kinda gatekeep the phenomenon.
I want to clarify that I'm not mad at you ofc. I'm just tired of ppl trying to reinvent the wheel. Like ppl act like just because internet fandom is supposedly equal because you can't see our skin color fans of color aren't affected by the racism. But that's not true. I've seen countless fandoms dog pile and harass black fans and black actors.
What I would suggest to you is that you come off anon and apply to be a mod here or at fandomshatepeopleofcolor. Or start calling it out yourself. If it causes too much anxiety no worries I'll get to the media eventually. But if you could keep links or screenshots I'd really appreciate it.
