NINE-TENTHS
Oh my gosh, the book is now officially out! This is the first original novel I've published since 2018 and I am very excited and very nervous to share it.
☕♥️🐉
Tumblr media
➡️ You can read it here. ⬅️
Chapters drop Wednesdays and Saturdays, and if you're worried, the story is already finished and fully uploaded. This is not a WIP that I will abandon later--it's totally complete.
About the book:
Twenty-four is one year too young for a quarter-life crisis, but hey, Colin's always been an overachiever. He's got a degree in Sustainable Tourism, which his family says he's wasting as a barista, an annoying anxiety disorder, and no freaking idea what to do with his life. The only thing going his way is the cute coffee shop regular, a homo draconis named Dav (who, in his humanshape, is a total hottie.) Still, it'd be easier if Dav didn't have a habit of accidentally setting things on fire when he's startled. Like the café kitchen.
When Dav breaks draconic taboo and volunteers as a replacement bean-roaster to apologize for the inferno meet-ugly, sparks really fly. Everything's finally happening for Colin, until he learns that hooking up with Dav means that under dragon law, Colin is absorbed into Dav's hoard.
Possession may be nine-tenths of the law, but becoming his boyfriend's property does not make this whole identity crisis thing easier. Especially now that Colin must navigate politics, paparazzi, and legal questions about his personhood. Colin's still angling for his Happily Ever After, but the growing scrutiny on his relationship with Dav threatens their budding romance. And if he's not careful, Colin's fight for agency may just destroy symbiotic human/dragon relationships worldwide.

I joined a Q&A of a published author that writes mainly queer romance. Somebody asked what advice would he give to someone that also wants to write queer rom-com, and said: Just write it! It's going to take time and work, but if you want it you can do it.
And I know it sounds like a simple advice, but for me it was like a revelation cause I asked to myself: What it is stopping you? and I couldn't find a valid answer.
I know I may not be the greatest writer in the world, but that doesn't mean I can't get better with practice. There are so many stories with female bisexual lead that I want to write, cause I feel myself underrepresented in that area. Is going to take time, but I hope I can get a story out someday. And I also hope anyone that wants to write get to see his/hers/theirs story come to life.

"Red white and royal blue is too cringy" "heartstopper is too unrealistic" yeah maybe but so is every single other rom com under the sun. Why does queer media always need to be realistic and profound while straight stories get more freedom to be silly and fantastical?

this is unedited and ill probably add to this scene. but have a very rough draft friends!!
Carlos was sitting on the couch, reading his romance novel, legs crossed, wearing just a pair of grey jogger sweatpants, with no shirt, glistening, clearly having finished working out not long ago. As he heard the door sliding on the track, Carlos placed his bookmark to save his place and got up to greet his husband.
“Hi, sweetheart, how was your day?” Carlos kissed his husband’s cheek.
TK shrugged, “It was all right. I’m just tired.”
“Are you hungry? Do you want dinner?” Carlos asked.
“Eh not yet. I just want to relax with you.” TK placed a hand on each of Carlos’s cheeks and brought him in for a kiss. “I missed you.”
“You saw me this morning, but I missed you too.” Carlos took TK's hands and intertwined their fingers and led him to the couch. Carlos laid down first and TK crawled on top of him, laid his head on Carlos’s bare chest and nuzzled in, shortly after fading into slumber.

It's a shame the rom-com industry hasn't made more/any plots centering on polycules because like... those would be some fuckin plots. Do you understand the sheer amount of shenanigans, coincidences, funny circumstances, misunderstandings, and heartbreakingly beautiful moments that could come from three or more romantic protagonists? The possibilities are staggering.

I’d probably have to wait til CR ends but some day I want to write a thesis on biphobia in the CR fandom and center it on how many people made up a narrative where Liam was homophobic or scared of playing queerness when he was the FIRST player to unselfconsciously play a obviously queer PC and has openly admitted to more personal queer experiences than any other cast member

It's Monday, sir. We all have concerns.
But perhaps some new webcomics will put your mind at ease (even if it's in your disembodied head, rocketing straight into space...)
Our long-running adult science fiction spy thriller with D-grade psychics and talking koalas is A Girl and Her Fed. If you love archive dives into weirdness with a smattering of social commentary and serious art evolution? WELL have we got you COVERED!
Our brand-new YA queer fantasy rom-com is Side Quested. It starts with a reluctant hero rescuing a princess from her tower, and then things go sideways.

Convincing you to read queer romance books by their aesthetic (8/∞):
So This Is Ever After by F.T. Lukens
Arek hadn’t thought much about what would happen after he completed the prophecy that said he was destined to save the Kingdom of Ere from its evil ruler. So now that he’s finally managed to (somewhat clumsily) behead the evil king (turns out magical swords yanked from bogs don’t come pre-sharpened), he and his rag-tag group of quest companions are at a bit of a loss for what to do next.
As a temporary safeguard, Arek’s best friend and mage, Matt, convinces him to assume the throne until the true heir can be rescued from her tower. Except that she’s dead. Now Arek is stuck as king, a role that comes with a magical catch: choose a spouse by your eighteenth birthday, or wither away into nothing.
With his eighteenth birthday only three months away, and only Matt in on the secret, Arek embarks on a desperate bid to find a spouse to save his life—starting with his quest companions. But his attempts at wooing his friends go painfully and hilariously wrong…until he discovers that love might have been in front of him all along.

I know I made that whole analysis post about how character dynamics get flattened to fit cishet modes of romance and used odo and kira as an example but I wanna get more personal about it bc it makes me so sad
like why was kira not more present and active in that arc?? why did they think that was a good idea???
cause cause cause what actually sold me on their relationship initially was not how odo acted towards kira, it was how kira acted towards odo. she was so genuinely fond of him. she looked at all of odo’s eccentricities and weirdness and found them delightful when others found them off-putting. kira nerys, who had garnered a reputation for being extremely serious and pessimistic would look at odo being his goo-y little self and beam. like it honestly reminded me of how jim would look at spock a lot of the time. pure adoration for someone who they’ve taken the time to understand where others haven’t.
and when they began to really lean into the romance arc it felt like a lot of that just… evaporated?? kira was to no longer have any personal feelings about odo other than like,, vague friendship so they can really lean into odo’s unrequited love arc. and see because she only sees him as a friend he has to win her over and change her mind about him as if she hadn’t been making heart eyes at him before the writers made the decision it should be unrequited.
we got some of this back after they actually got together but the journey to it was just HHHHH

Half way through The Pairing (feeling incredibly lucky I got an ARC) & let me tell you 2 things:
1. You WILL need snacks when reading this book cause the food descriptions are pornographic.
2. CMQ has managed to write the sexiest sex scene ever where no one has sex. Sweet jesus, I need a cold shower.
