The Locked Tomb Series Summary:
The “Lesbian Necromancers in Space” book series
The Murderbot Diaries Summary:
In a corporate-dominated space-faring future, planetary missions must be approved and supplied by the Company. For their own safety, exploratory teams are accompanied by Company-supplied security androids. But in a society where contracts are awarded to the lowest bidder, safety isn’t a primary concern. On a distant planet, a team of scientists is conducting surface tests, shadowed by their Company-supplied ‘droid--a self-aware SecUnit that has hacked its own governor module and refers to itself (though never out loud) as “Murderbot.” Scornful of humans, Murderbot wants is to be left alone long enough to figure out who it is, but when a neighboring mission goes dark, it's up to the scientists and Murderbot to get to the truth.

"Faggy butch was good. It accurately described my pink button-down shirts, my giggles, the fact that I talked with my hands. I once saw a tape of myself in which I made a gesture that looked more like it belonged in A Chorus Line than in the middle of an interview. Faggy butch was like genderqueer -- not quite this or that, a little of both, maybe. A friend once said to me, "I access my femininity through my masculinity."
I feel lucky to have grown up in a world with butch pioneers, and I feel lucky that I had an idea about what being butch might have meant. But instead of making me feel part of the community, these constructions of what butch was -- stereotypes really-- pushed me away from the word and identity. Instead I chose a newer term, genderqueer, which had yet to be defined; it was in flux, it was a new frontier. I may not have been butch "enough", but genderqueer was all mine to rewrite and redefine.
I still like the word "genderqueer," still claim it and own it and love the way it makes room for me, in all my complexities. But I'm coming back around to butch. Maybe its because the years of pink prom dresses are further and further behind me, maybe its because i'm learning from butch elders who talk in terms that make room for me, giggles and all. Maybe its because the people i know have no idea (unless I tell them) that i was never a tomboy. They only know me -- my short hair tightly bound chest, and button down shirts.
I think that every new generation feels the need to reject their elders, reject what came before them, and feel that they are knew gender rebels. We invent terms, we create new spaces, and sometimes, we come back to where our big brothers started -- home."

ID3: Have you thought any more about what you said before I left? About coming out to your family? Obviously, you’re not obligated. You just seemed kind of hopeful when you talked about it. - excerpt from Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston. "About coming out to your family? Obviously, you’re not obligated." is highlighted with a light shade of blue.
ID4: A still of Coach Singh(Chetna Pandya) talking with Nick in her office.  "None of the guys know about me, so, um... Well, you don't owe them that information, okay?" is written in yellow with black outline as subtitles.

I think Matthew really focused a lot and we had lots of conversations about this.  It was not focusing on that coming out moment, not calling it that, and just...
ID8: A still of  Taylor Zakhar Perez talking in an interview, from August 2022, about the Red, White & Royal Blue movie. In black and with red background is written: more of having a conversation with those that are near and dear to you. ID9: A still of Nick ( Kit Connor) and his mom (Olivia Colman) in the kitchen. She's looking at him while he's looking a little to his left and has his arms folded. Yet.” Zahra blinks, presses her lips together, and makes a noise like she’s being strangled. “Listen,” she says. “We don’t have time to deal with this, and your mother has enough to manage without having to process her son’s fucking quarter-life NATO sexual crisis, so—I won’t tell her. But once the convention is over, you have to.” “Okay,” Alex says on an exhale. - excerpt from Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston.  "you’re asking me not to tell the president about it?" is highlighted with a light shade of purple. ID:12 The truth is, Henry and I have been together since the beginning of this year. The truth is, as many of you have read, we have both struggled every day with what this means for our families, our countries, and our futures. The truth is, we have both had to make compromises that cost us sleep at night in order to afford us enough time to share our relationship with the world on our own terms. We were not afforded that liberty. - excerpt from Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston. "to afford us enough time to share our relationship with the world on our own terms. We were not afforded that liberty" is highlighted with a light shade of blue.
ID13: A close-up of Henry ( Nicholas Galitzine) in the car. ID15: A still of Henry sitting in a meeting. He's looking down with hurt and sadness in his eyes. He has his hands folded on the table. i keep seeing people in their late teens/early twenties having a "[X] content intended for younger audiences does not feel satisfying to me anymore but i don't know where to start to branch out into adult fiction" moment and i thought i would give some recommendations for adult fiction for my fellow creepy crawly queer people. all or at least a LOT of it will be on the darker and more fucked up side bc i primarily engage with horror and thriller media personally but feel free to add on with more or recommendations from other genres :)
edit: i am continuing to add to this list so there might be new recs (highlighted in pink) in here every once in a while! also want to add that there's a variety of POC, queer, and disabled authors in here as well, i am also all of the above (asian, bi/aro, poly, disabled) and tried to incorporate as many of their wickedly talented, compelling narratives as possible. that's all, happy reading!

He kisses—how do I explain it? Like someone in love. Like he has nothing to lose. Like someone who has just learned a foreign language and can use only the present tense and only the second person. Only now, only you.

How some straight men in classic literature act: women are smart and beautiful, but they seem so out of reach.
Anyway, here is my best friend. He is so beautiful. He is the one person I can trust. We might have kissed a few times in this novel, like all good friends do. Did I mention how beautiful he is in this feminine way? It takes my breath away.

PSA. Queer Liberation Library
oh hey. hey you. yeah. you should sign up for this. and then you will have access to queer stuff in libby app. do it. even if you are not queer. you walk by queers everyday. they are part of your community and their art is just as good as art from straight people. do yourself a favor and read one book by a queer author this year. if you do it this month, make it a black queer author. and if you got a couple extra bucks, like if you decide to have drip coffee instead of cappuccino, maybe send those extra bucks in the direction of QLL.
thank you kindly for your consideration and enjoy some queer lit through the libby app tomorrow.

I haven't seen Wish (2023) yet, but I keep seeing people mourning over the scrapped concepts that Disney explored for a human star character possibly being the secondary lead and love interest in the movie.
Gonna take this time to plug in my little queer space opera graphic novel series with the first book coming out in 2025, literally about a human star boy who falls in love with a human.

""You cannot piss in a cup or pull a sword from a stone or anything else in order to tell if you're trans or not. You are if you want to be. You're not if you don't."
This is what I say. No one listens.
"Look. I define transgendered literally; it's a way of crossing. Crossing into a different gender. Not the opposite, there are so many, just a different one. Or crossing out of the gender that theoretically goes, in that there heterosexual matrix we keep talking about, with your biological sex.
"Being a transsexual is a different animal. That's a matter of medical things or the intention of medical things, changing your sex you know? The sex parts: genitals, reproductive organs, hormones, secondary sexual characteristics. Or living full-time as a person of a certain culturally aligned sex and gender, whether you do medical things or not, because some people can't and it isn't fair to punish that. So them, too. But transgendered is wide open. And butch is a nonnormative gender yes? We can agree on that, anyway? So if you want to claim transgendered, great as far as I'm concerned."
People sign at me. They roll their eyes, They shake their heads. They want me to make ruling, they want me to tell them if they can call themselves transgendered, or alternative if they can still call themselves butch. As though I somehow have the power to confer or deny whatever label they want, or as though I can be relied upon to make an impartial decision int he case of an argument, whether it is internal or among individuals."
