How to spiritually protect your home from unfamiliar entities 👻

When faced with paranormal activity, it can be scary for anyone! We start to question ourselves and feeling silly thinking: "Did I really just see that?! No, no, it my must be my imagination..." but you still can't shake the feeling something is there in your room.

How to decipher between a high or low vibrational entity

Every spirit takes form in a different shape and color. I am unsure what it means but I have seen just about each one. So I will be giving each one a name for it. A fair warning though to use your intuition because my interaction with each spirit could be different from yours. Always use caution.

The in-between:

This spirit is mainly gray and fuzzy but has a rainbow outline. Similar to a broken TV. I believe these spirits are going through a period of healing and transformation. They are more neutral with their approach but overall have good intentions.

Holier than thou:

This spirit looks pure white. It's just a plain white or almost milky translucent color, they are typically friendly. If they are white, but look like it's sparkling or shining, it is a low vibrational entity or demon trying to pose as a angel.

Peekaboo:

The ones that appear in the corner of your eye or when you feel a presence randomly pass by. This is the most famous type of spirit that everyone has said they have come across. They come as shadows and are quick on their feet. They are black in color and their origins I am unsure, but they haven't bothered me per say. They startle me though, so because of how they sneak around. I mainly believe that they are trickster spirits.

Fairy lights (also known as orbs):

Orbs of light are considered to be a manifestation of energy present in your home. I have interacted with this type of spirit the least. When I first began doing deity worship with Aphrodite, I would see pink orbs, and that is how I knew she was present when I prayed to her or asked her for guidance. I have also seen orbs when interacting with archangels.

Faders:

These spirits fade in and disappear once they get what they want. They usually appear with a message and then leave once they're done. They can be pretty lonely, so sometimes they just like your company. I went to a garden memorial once and I had a spirit follow me home just so they could spend time with me. They left after two days.

Angels:

I feel that most of the time my interaction with an angel was presented as a human. You ever had someone that just was really sweet and kind to you in when you were having a really rough day? Yeah I mean that. Those feel like angels to me. Archangels I view them as orbs.

Demons:

*cracks knuckles* the moment you've all been waiting for. Now these are masters of disguise. Demons present themselves as anything or anyone just to get closer to you. Whether that's a living human being, an attractive person in your dream who sexually arouses you (incubus/succubus), or a monster who keep causing you to have nightmares in your sleep. Their main desire is to suck your life source and take over your soul at your weakest moment or make you do malicious things that are out of your character.

The different types of demons:

Before we touch upon this topic, if you are someone who struggles with a mental health condition such as anxiety, PTSD, BPD, etc. Be aware that some of your symptoms could align with some of the things I will mention down below. You have to understand the difference of just being anxious/paranoid and genuinely having an encounter with an entity that's dangerous.

Creepers:

Creepers are literally what they are. They creep up on you quite randomly. They mostly appear in your dreams to scare you and cause you to have nightmares. In most cases, these ones are just annoying because they scare you out of your sleep, but the more severe ones can physically harm you. One time in middle school I had a nightmare of a demon wanting to attack me in my sleep and I woke up with scratches on my back that were bright red. Nobody else was there in my room that night to have left scratches on me like that. Anyone of any age can deal with creepers but it is most common for children to come across them.

Hitmen:

A hitman is usually a demon that was sent by someone who has given you the evil eye or decided to hex you or wish malicious things onto you. This is scary for most people to experience because you can't tell if you're going crazy or genuinely feel an attack on your peace of mind. A sign of a spiritual attack is when you are around someone and suddenly that person gives you a bad vibe, you start to feel physically ill or energetically drained. Intuitively, you should know when you feel unsettled by a negative entity.

Inner demons:

You guessed it. Demons that come from you. We all have our own inner demons that manifest from a place of pain, envy, anger, bitterness, or hatred. They are the ones who stick with us through our darkest times. Inner demons have a codependent relationship with us. It's almost as if being with a narcissist. Instead of helping you, they enjoy that you are helpless so they can stay with you longer. They conveniently appear or come around during severe periods of depression. Since it is a inner demon and not a hitman demon, you have to learn to forgive yourself for the manifestation of this entity, since it has come from you. Instead of fighting them or being angry with them, allow them to be set free. Wish healing for them as well, since it was not their fault they were born out of agony. They may come and go, but they should know their place from now on. For witches, these demons could be at your service for more baneful magick if anyone decides to fuck with you 🤫

How to deal with negative entities and banish them from your sacred space:

Ultimately, it comes down to being brave and asserting your dominace. Let these entities know that they cannot and will not fuck with you from this day on. When they know you are a pushover, they will just keep messing with you. Scare them like how they scare you. Here are some different methods you could use to banish these entities from your home.

Clean up your act 🧹:

Have you ever felt the strong urge to clean your house after being in a funk? That's right! Cleaning is one of the most popular ways of getting rid of low vibrational energy and to invite new energy into your home. I mean what's a witch without her broom right?

Mainly dusting, sweeping, mopping, wiping windows/mirrors, and vacuuming could be done for banishing negative energy/entities

You can chant while sweeping away from yourself, you can make this up on your own so it can be more fitting for you and you can memorize it more easily

Florida Water is considered one of the holy grails and can be bought at any local botanica or even online. It is a cologne that is famous for its magical properties and multi-purposes. You can pour Florida Water into the bucket of water that you use for mopping 🪣

Cleaning products that have magical ingredients (I.E: Lemon / lemon scent is a popular tool for spiritual cleansing)

Pillow sprays, febreeze, essential oils, or room deodorizers are a cheap and easy way to cleanse your home (Lavender pillow spray can be sprayed around your house and on your bed sheets or curtains for peace and tranquility. It is also a refreshing scent and helps you sleep better 😊!)

Boiling a concoction is another method you can use (ever wondered what was in those witches' cauldrons?). Most people boil bay leaves, rosemary leaves, or cinnamon

If you are pregnant or someone sensitive to chemicals or smells, you can use crushed eggshells or pour salt in the corners of your home, window sills, and doors🚪

Plants and crystals can be used as protection wards for your home. You can put them anywhere that you prefer.

Other popular methods for protection spells are spell jars, mojo bags (hoodoo, closed practice), enchanting a necklace or piece of jewelry to wear as a tailsman/amulet, or egg cleanse (common method in Latin American culture).

Team up:

There's nobody who will be down to protect you more than yourself than your spirit guides. Simply calling upon your ancestors (who wish you good intentions ofc), guardian angels, animal guide, or deity should be enough to protect you in moments of fear and feeling unsafe. Remember to show appreciate to them and give them offerings for their assistance. They cannot consistently be there for you if their energy source is low (especially ancestors!).

Experiencing the evil eye or a spiritual attack can be scary for just about anybody 🥺! Just remember that the situation is temporary and there is always going to people out there who love you and wish for your happiness (including your higher self). Paranormal activity is a weird but interesting thing many people in their lifetime have come across, so you don't have to feel alone. PROTECTION

protection is an important skill for any practitioner to know because it helps protect you from negative energies, entities, intentions, etc. ill go over some different forms and items for protection in this post

WARDS

wards are energetic fields that prevent unwanted energies, entities, intentions, etc. from coming into your space. they can be cast around yourself or a space. warding can be done in several ways, detailed below

visualization and intent - usually done by visualizing a barrier with the intent of protection

salt - sprinkle salt around your space with the intent of protection, make sure to be safe if you have pets, salt may harm animals if they consume it

crystals - use protective crystals around yourself or your space

herbs - use protective herbs around yourself or your space, you could also make an herbal spray for protection

objects - you can have an object be the "source" of the ward and frequently recharge this object with intent, you could get an object you associate with protection or that has protective properties (such as a plant with protective correspondences) and use this as the source of your ward

ENCHANTED ITEMS

you can enchant an item with intent (in this case, protection) and keep it in your space or wear it

personally, i like to enchant jewelry with intent and wear it with me daily or when i want to utilize its specific abilities!

i will make a more in-depth post on how to enchant things, but you can use intent and visualization, crystals, herbs, or ask for help from a deity or entity you work with

DEITIES AND ENTITIES

you can call upon a deity or entity for protection, such as with a prayer or a direct request

note that if you are doing this they may want an offering in return. relationships in witchcraft are often somewhat transactional (eg. giving energy in exchange for a spell, giving an offering to an entity in exchange for help with your craft, etc.), so i would advise having something to offer them in exchange for their protection

PROTECTION SIGILS

protection sigils are sigils drawn with the intent of protection, there are sigil making charts online or you can simply draw from your intuition, there is no wrong way to make a sigil as long as the intent is there!

i will make a more in-depth post on sigil making and link it here soon

PROTECTION JARS

you can make a protection jar by including items you associate with protection, some ideas for what to include are herbs, small crystals, or sigils

PROTECTION CANDLES

you can make a candle spell and burn it for protection, i would advise choosing a candle in a color you associate with protection and dressing it or surrounding it with herbs you associate with protection. you could also carve a protection sigil into the candle before burning it!

PROTECTION ITEMS

below is a non-exhaustive list of items i associate with protection, your associations may be different and thats completely okay! use whatever association works for you, this is just based off of my personal associations and correspondences with these items

Black salt

My recipe for black salt + a bonus protection spell.

Tools:

Dish for black salt

Cauldron/fire safe dish

Charcoal round

Ingredients:

Parsley

Rosemary

Eggshell powder

Red pepper

Black pepper

Sage

Bay leaf

Salt

Protection oil

Set the charcoal round on or in your fire safe dish. I used my mini cauldron. Use a lighter or match to light it until it sparks 💥. Mix Parsley, rosemary, sage, red pepper, and black pepper together. Dump your herb and other mix onto the charcoal round and let it burn. I put a few drops of protection oil onto the top. I then set a bay leaf on top and light it on fire to burn it.

After all of the herbs are ash I usually have some of the charcoal disk left. From there I crush up the charcoal and mix it with the ash from the protection spell.

I mix pink salt in and eggshell powder then I pour it into my salt dish.

Personal Protection Powder

This is my personal concoction. I use it for protection, and in my circle casting

Crushed eggshells (start by drying them. Clean them out and peel out the membrane if you like, then bake at 200*F for around 30 minutes until they are dry. Use a coffee grinder or mortar and pestle to crush them however fine you like.) -this is for protection and power Dried, chopped

Basil- this is for protection, peace in your workings and to keep evil or negativity away.

Coffee grounds- for grounding the work, and giving it energy

Thyme- for purification and prosperous outcomes to your workings

I use this powder in my circle castings, in some of my jar spells for warding, and for general protection use.

Rosemary; Salvia rosmarinus

rosemary is a very powerful little plant and I recommend it as a witch's essential herb, a non-negotiable if you will, as it has so many uses.

Other names: sea dew, compass plant, polar plant

Couples have also wore it at their wedding and given as favors to their guests.

Said to protect against the evil eye.

Hey! Just wanted to ask, what would you do spiritually to protect your peace? I’m dealing with some… hexes/evil eyes/attacks from a shit ton of family members, like my mom, as well as people close to my family and it’s gotten to the point in which I’m barely getting through the day (not trying to trauma dump, and I’m very much aware that you are not a therapist lol).

So buckle up bc this is going to be long lol

I reblogged a post recently about the four different types of protection, you can look it up for further info.

THIS IS PROTECTION 102

THE DAILIES

I mentioned them previously to another anon, but i recommend doing some small rituals daily. This helps for 1. stopping the negative energy from building up and 2. Builds your magical stamina for bigger spells.

What you can do :

-visualizing : visualize yourself surrounding by a white or pink light, and visualize it removing all of the negative energy from you, and protecting you from outside negative energy. You can do it once or multiple times a day, when you are in public, before going to sleep, when you wake up etc.

-daily hygiene: while you are taking a bath or a shower, visualize the water cleansing you and watch as the negative energy goes down the drain. This works especially well if you are washing your hair.

Food and drinks: throw salt over your left shoulder while you cook, stir your tea/ coffee clockwise to add protection into the drink, or anticlockwise to remove negative energy. Drink water with the intention of it cleansing the negative energy.

Clothes : the color black, as well as iron, are both associated with protection. You can wear one or both with intention as an extra layer of protection.

You can add affirmations to any of these in order to strengthen them.

NOW ONTO LEVEL 2

We are now going into more long term rituals and spells.

In order to do these, you will need to learn two skills first: how to direct your focus and energy and how to ground.

Direct your focus and energy: The previous exercises can serve as a training. You can also try to do yoga and focus on your body sensations, do meditation, sit under the sun,watch a candle flame, feel water on your hands etc. The goal is to try to avoid your mind from wandering in the middle of your spell, rendering them less effective.

How to ground: the goal is to get you to be connected to your body and to earth. The exercises from the “direct your focus and energy” category can work as well. You can also sit and visualize your core energy center (it can feel different for everyone) being connected to the Earth. A good thing about grounding is that it allows you to borrow from Earth infinite energy, so you don’t have to use your own for your spells.

In order to know what works best for you, you have to tap into your sensitivity. If you are very affected by the moon, then do a ritual linked to the moon. If you are more seasonal like me, do something yearly or linked to the seasons.If you have deities, do something linked to them or ask them to help you protect you.

I personally have a very layered protection, with a mix of deity help, runes, sigils ( i love sigils), enchanted objects and a few spell bottles or jars.

Let’s go with the different types of protection:

Defensive : These act as a shield or a fence. When you build one, make sure you do it in a way that it keeps you away from energies you don’t want, but let in other things. For example, if you use a good luck spell later, it would be sad if it was stopped by your own defensive spell. You can use affirmations such as “I am protected from energies which are not in my highest good”.

Illusory: you can lead the negative energy towards something that is not actually you. For example, you can make a spell jar containing a hair, and fill it with vinegar and nails, with the intention that negative energy that seeks you ends up stuck in the jar. You can then hide this jar in your bathroom, or in a plant etc.You can also learn to shield your energy in a way that you become invisible to people who seek you (I am such champion at that that i once wasted a paid reading bc the reader did not have the best intentions apparently and could not find me lol).The same way as before, add an an affirmation which make sure it wouldnt block you from receiving good things.

Aggressive: I put it last because usually people don't recommend beginners to start off with these. Basically, aggressive spells can require more energy, and it is with experience that you learn when they are necessary, or when they are going bad and you need to do something. The usual protective aggressive spells are “return to sender” types. But you can also find spells that are meant to scare the attacker into retreating.

CORRESPONDENCES:

Salt is commonly used as protection and purification, so is rosemary.

You can mix salt with ashes and it becomes black salt, which will absorb and transform negative energy.

Black crystals, such as black quartz, obsidian, tourmaline, have protection properties.

The color black and the element of iron have protective properties.

Runes:

The rune Algiz is considered a defensive rune.

Sigils : sigils are symbols that belong in chaos magic. They take effect when they become invisible or are destroyed. I personally prefer to create my own and i'm not willing to share them, but many people created some and shared some around witchblr. You can put a sigil on a paper and burn it, write it on toilet paper then put the paper down the toilet, write it with holy water around your windows and doors, hide it in or under your shoes etc

Ward :a ward is a visible symbol of protection. It can for example be a witch ladder, a dream catcher, a horseshoe, or any symbol you put over your door or around your entrance. My mom has a protective psalm in malagasy above a door which all guests face when they enter, for example.

Spells jars, bottles, powders, candles etc : I can't remember which ones I did off the top of my head, but many. A lot exists online as well. As I said previously, do what draws you in the most.

Electronic spells: Tech witches are a thing. The tech witch tag will probably be more helpful than my small category here, but there are many spells you can do without actually having to gather ingredients, especially if any form of witchcraft will be frowned upon in your household. You can do your spell on Minecraft, use a candle app, use a website etc. This is a great way to stay discrete as well.

WARNING: Every spell has a cost. I don't say this to scare you, but every spell you do has consequences. The first and most common one being energy. You can feel tired, drained, sleepy, have a headache, or have sore muscles after a spell. You should not do a spell if you are not in the right space to do so. It is normal if it is tiring. In order to help, you can borrow energy from other places. For example, ground and borrow energy from the Earth. Ask to borrow energy from the elements or your deities. Borrow it from running water or from sunlight or a candle or your phone (charge your phone if you are doing a spell using your phone). Especially dont forget to “close” the spell after you are done building it. Don't let it run on its own forever, you will be drained. I say this with experience lol, i am the type to forget i got a spell started and let my phone candle run and wonder why i got a headache. After you have done a spell, focus on self care. Hydrate, have a snack, go to sleep, rest. Enjoy feeling safe and protected lol.

Some people are massive energy powerhouses and can handle doing spells from their own energy. I am very not like this, i have little stamina so i instead guide existing energies towards where i want them to go.

hey bree!!

i used your Wall of Thorns spell a few months ago along with a guardian spell to ward my apartment for the winter. they’ve done me quite well so far. i came home to this today and instantly got a bad feeling about it.

seal exposed and my guardian Purrcilla is moved. pretty sure they were just bumped by my neighbors (i’m the middle floor), but i can’t shake this bad feeling i got about it. any advice?

Since it doesn't look like anything's been deliberately messed with or broken, I'd just clean up the area, check the seal, and put things back the way they were. You can also try to feel things out and see if the ward needs repair.

Think of the protection spell like a piece of fabric or a tangle of vines. Clear your head as best you can so you can focus on what you're doing and pass your hands around the frame of your door, or wherever you've anchored the spell. See if anything feels "thin," as if there's a spot that's threadbare or maybe where some of the brambles have fallen away. It's not a perfect method and may or may not work (this is VERY much Your Mileage May Vary), but it might help calm your nerves if things feel solid.

When in doubt, you can always cast a little patching spell, like a mini warding that covers and seals any cracks in the existing spell. That's what I usually do, kind of like darning a hole in the heel of your sock or spackling a crack in the wall.

Also, just on a practical note, keep an eye on things for a while. This looks like it's tucked into a corner by your door where it's not likely to be bumped by people passing by. (I could be wrong.) Even if it's not somebody messing with your spell, it might have been someone looking for a hidden key. So make sure you stay vigilant, lock your door, keep track of your keys, and take note of anyone loitering around your floor without an ostensible reason to be there.

Shield of Light: A Simple Protection Spell

Ingredients:

A white candle

A small piece of clear quartz or black tourmaline

A pinch of sea salt

A small bowl or dish

Instructions:

1. Preparation:

Find a quiet and comfortable space where you can focus without distractions.

Set up your altar or sacred space with your materials.

2. Grounding and Centering

Take a few deep breaths, grounding yourself in the present moment

Visualize roots growing from the soles of your feet, anchoring you to the Earth

Feel your energy centering and aligning with your intentions

3. Candle Preparation

Light the white candle

Hold the quartz or black tourmaline in your hand, infusing it with your intention of protection

4. Casting the Circle

Using the small bowl or dish, create a circle around the candle with a pinch of sea salt, moving clockwise.

As you sprinkle the salt, envision a shimmering barrier forming, shielding, and protecting you from all negativity.

5. Invocation

Call upon the divine or any deity or spirit guide you feel connected to for protection. You can use your own words or try the following: "I call upon the divine light and protection, Surround me with a shield, strong and true. Guard me against harm, negativity, and deception, May only love and light pass through."

6. Charging the Crystal

Hold the crystal in your hands and visualize it filling with radiant, protective energy.

State your intention clearly, such as, "This crystal is charged to shield me from all harm and negativity."

7. Activating the Shield

With the charged crystal in hand, pass it over the flame of the candle, visualizing the flame igniting a powerful, protective light.

As you do this, repeat your intention of protection, reinforcing the shield's strength.

8. Closing the Ritual

Express gratitude to the divine or any entities you called upon for their protection and assistance.

Extinguish the candle, knowing that the shield of light remains active and present.

9. Maintenance

Keep the crystal with you, carrying it as a talisman or placing it in a safe and sacred space.

Repeat this spell as needed, especially during times when you feel particularly vulnerable or when facing challenging situations.

Remember, the most powerful protection comes from within. This spell serves as a tool to focus your intentions and amplify your energy, but it's crucial to cultivate a mindset of self-awareness, discernment, and personal responsibility in maintaining your well-being and protection.

this clarity spell is good for people seeking confirmation regarding people/environments/energies that they’ve been feeling suspicious about lately. the dream that follows after casting this clarity spell will be the confirmation message of your inquiry.

FISHERMAN’S CHARM

This is a charm for prosperity and protection while fishing, so one may catch their fish and return safely to shore. This one is aimed toward specifically salt water bodies. If I wanted the same sense of luck while fishing at a lake, I’d need a new charm.

I made my charm out of salvaged fishing line, a black seashell for the ocean and protection, a symbol of a water dragon to represent predation/hunting and eating what you catch, and a nail to represent piercing.

This charm is meant to be put in my pocket. If you plan to hang yours somewhere, perhaps on your boat, the nail can be replaced with a fishing hook.
