Today is International Pronouns Day!
You may have noticed that I have some "contradictory" pronoun badges available, like this he/him lesbian badge, or a demiboy flag with she/her, nonbinary badges with binary pronouns... The things is, pronouns are just one way that we express our gender. It can be complicated and messy, and completely impossible to articulate to someone else. A he/him lesbian might fall somewhere in the grey area between butch and transmasc, a he/she nonbinary person might feel more like "both" rather than "neither", and they just doesn't fit. Our pasts inform our future, and everyone has a unique story. Sometimes people wear a badge to support someone they love!
The point of this is basically to just respect someone's pronouns. Even if they don't make sense to you, even if you have to ask how to use it in a sentence, even if you have to practice over and over to make it feel natural. Everyone deserves to feel respected 💖

These students in Maine made a video about pronouns for their school
Last year, we awarded $500,000 in grants to schools across the U.S. for student-led projects that support LGBTQ+ youth through our 50 States, 50 Grants, 5,000 Voices initiative. Just over a year later, it's time to see how their projects turned out!
This school in Maine used their grant funds to produce a video about pronouns and pronoun usage for their teachers and students - they're premiering it this back-to-school season, but we got the sneak peak for you here!
We asked student Saga how it went:
"Students feel more recognized by previously confused staff and peers who didn't understand or make an effort to use the correct pronouns. I was surprised by how intelligent and fantastic our GSA group is. Everyone had insight and knowledge to share, it was really a group effort. Some have been concerned, but overall the project has had very positive feedback. Staff and students have been open to watching to learn about the subject, and the community is very excited about it." 💜
Stay tuned for more and see all of last year's grantees here: itgetsbetter.org/blog/meet-the-grantees

Since I'm back on tumblr, I figured I should show off some of what I've been busy with while I was away.
I wore one of my pronoun necklaces to a pride event last weekend and someone stopped me and asked, "Wait, are you gay and tired?" and I was confused for a moment because obviously, but people don't usually ask me about it so bluntly. I had forgotten that's my shop name.

Does anyone have a good explanation on why it's grammatically correct to use singular "they"?
Meaning some sort of article, preferably that's geared towards conservatives, that won't seem like it's pushing some sort of liberal/leftist "agenda".
My grandparents, intelligent people that have a grasp on "proper" English, are dead set against the use of they/them pronouns, in reference to one person. I don't think I'll be able to get them to accept trans and non-binary people, but at least I won't let them get away with shit like "it isn't proper English".

I woke up this morning to Ruston Kelly's version of Bury Me Under the Weeping Willow playing in my head. This song should not be an earworm...it's lovely, but it's also just soaked with loss. It's the story of being the one who isn't chosen, of being rejected by the person you think you're building a future with. Here's a sampling of the plaintiveness...
Bury me under the violets blue
To prove my love to him
Tell him that I'd die for him
His love I could never win
I went down a rabbit hole of versions, and you know what? This is the only one that actually matches the lyrics in the best possible way. Every other version sticks to the upbeat tone of The Carter Family's original recording, at least to some degree or another. But Ruston Kelly's version is like the most melodic funeral dirge of all time, beautiful, and pathetic, and incredibly sing-a-longable.
This may be the best cover of all time. There's a gravity to this song that is incredible.
On a side note, another great thing about it? He doesn't gender-flip the pronouns. Fucking champion.

I'm not posting their picture because I don't want to give them more attention, but please remember that the Club Q shooter's pronouns are they/them. Hate them all you want, but if you disrespect one trans/enby's pronouns, you disrespect us all.

I use she/her/hers, they/them/theirs, and xe/xem/xyrs pronouns.
This does not mean you get to ignore the they/xem pronouns.
So many people in my life hear "she/they/xe" and automatically assume that it's okay to use only she/er.
Yes, I get it, I've allowed you to use the she/her pronouns. And I'm okay with that! I don't want to get rid of them!
But the they/them & xe/xem pronouns are also a part of me.
Just because I've allowed you to use she/her does not mean you get to use she/her exclusively. She/they/xe are meant to be used interchangeably and I'd like for them to be treated as such. If you're unsure of which ones to use, use they/them! Those are the easiest for me and give me much more gender euphoria than she/her.
Please use they/xem. They describe me just as much as she/her and by ignoring them, you ignore me.
(if you didn't know that I used those pronouns, please don't take offense to this! this is just for the people who know and still choose to use she/her exclusively. if you forgot, don't worry about it, just treat this as a reminder!)

I have run out of patience for folks that treat my pronouns like a pop quiz. One of the reasons you might be having problems using people's correct pronouns is because you haven't reassessed your preconceived notions about gender. You're trying to memorize pronouns like a grocery list. When you tell me that you'll eventually remember my pronouns or that sometimes you will forget... I privately think that you don't believe trans people are who they say they are & you are just trying to come off as a nice person. The next cis-person that gives me a long-winded speech about remembering pronouns and how hard it is... I will call them every name under the sun but their own. Memorizing and learning are not the same things. To learn something is to understand it. Memorizing is just recall; you should save it for the next time you need to remember to buy milk, not when you are talking about someone's identity.

Is she under somno regimen?
That sounds way more formal than what we actually do. I wouldn't call it a "regimen" so much as we have a dynamic where sometimes I wake them up to play.
Also, my partner is a they, not a she.

I love when people come to me to ask how to use other people's pronouns <33333 today I was talking to my professor, and he told me that his daughter is in a new relationship and he was scared to mess up her boyfriend's pronouns. Her bf is AFAB and hasn't transitioned yet but goes by he/they. My professor wanted to ask me how to use he/they pronouns and it made me so happy because you could tell he really wants to get it right. <333

Have any other enbies found themselves gravitating towards using like the "Royal We" brand of pronouns? Like "what did you need from us" or "ah yes, we see that now"? I do not think I'm multiple potatoes, and when someone else is referring to me they/them is still a non issue, but *shrug* I guess I just figured I'd ask
