I haven't played eso (or any game that requires a mouse) properly (I've been logging in every day for login bonuses) since the year started because of my hands. I saw a physical therapist in January and have been doing exercises since then, and they helped to a decent extent but my pain has since plateaued, and gaming still irritates my hands very quickly (especially eso. it has very very repetitive combat and there's no way to turn the sprint into a toggle), so I haven't been able to pick it back up yet.

A look into the multiverse chapter 8 SAOA
Many thanks to my friend friend @bssaz97 for his work on the reactions. And TheGoldenBoy2188 for the strict for SAOA making writing easy. The next reaction will be a suprise so stay tune.
Amidst the streets of Mantle, Whitley Schnee walked towards a destination while wearing a disguise consisting of a coat, scarf, shaded glasses, and a flat cap. He had a mission and he would not waste this opportunity!
It was not every day that he could simply leave the manor without Father's permission or notice so he needed to be quick but not noticeable. He had waited months for this day to arrive. Whitley had pre-ordered the latest MMO game of his favorite game series a week before the initial release date and had come to pick it up. Having connections in the right places certainly did have its benefits. The only downside was he had to acquire his prize somewhere outside of his father's notice. So what other place to go than Atlas's sister kingdom.
Outside of his notice, a young white haired faunus woman with sheep ears followed close behind him. Fiona Thyme was out picking up some food for the rest of the Happy Huntresses when she noticed an unfamiliar person walking around. She knew almost everyone on this side of Mantle, so a new person popping out of the blue was very suspicious. Normally she would have reported this back to Robyn but upon further inspection she recognized who this person was.
It was the sole son of the worst man on Remnant and the newly appointed heir of the Schnee Dust Company, Whitley Schnee! Why was he here in Mantle?! Fiona determined he was up to no good and decided to follow him. Wherever the SDC goes, trouble usually follows!
Whitley finally arrived at the destination he was seeking… the Post Office! Now all he had to do was open the door, enter the establishment aaaaaand- stare dumbfounded as the inside of this place was a theatre.
"What the-? This isn't the post office. Where am I?!" Whitley shouted at no one in particular.
"Ah-ha! Caught you right where I- Huh? Where the hell? This isn't the post office!" Fiona also dumbfounded.
"Whitley?" Both Weiss and Winter stated in a mix of shock and disbelief at seeing their little brother. Maybe some hostility on Weiss part.
"Weiss? Winter? How-?"
"What the hell is this?!" A loud female voice shouted as four more people arrived out of nowhere. Consisting of two normal sized humans, a bunny faunus and a very large man.
"Coco/Velvet/Fox/Yatsuhashi!" Teams RWBY and JNR said collectively.
"Oh hello everyone! This… is a surprise! When did you get to Vacuo?" Velvet asked the group.
Fiona turned towards the new strangers, "Vacuo? What are you talking about? You're all in Mantle?"
"I'm most certain we're in Vacuo at the time." Yatsu spoke.
"You are in neither at the moment." Ozpin spoke up.
"What the- Teach? Weren't you supposed to be dead?!" Coco confusingly points out.
"I believe an explanation is in order."
*One short but informative explanation later*
"Wait so we were brought here to watch… alternate realities?" Fiona says after she and all the new arrivals had been told everything about the theater.
"We call them viewings but yeah pretty much." Ruby said.
"Hold on, I can understand why all of you were brought here, seeing as you all are huntsmen and huntresses. But that doesn't explain why I'm here." Whitley, having taken off his disguise.
"A great question indeed." Weiss mutters.
"I think I have a theory." Blake stepped forward. "So far now, I've noticed that the people who are here have at least some involvement in the viewings that we have been seeing. Remember that one viewing we saw of Whitley being stuck inside a video game?"
"I was stuck in a video game?"
"Also if you die in the game you die for real." Nora added.
Whitley's eyes widened at the implications.
"Well you're still stuck as far as we know. But apparently you're very good at the game so you might be fine." Jaune clarifies. Slightly feeling guilty that his alternate is the one who traps him there.
"Oh joy, now I'm trapped inside a place against my will in two realities!" Whitley throws his hands in frustration.
"Oh boo hoo! Is the rich boy gonna cry because nothings going his way today?" Fiona says in a mocking tone.
"Oh I'm sure you would know so much about crying and complaining about trivial things, thief." He shot back at Fiona.
"At least I think about the people of Mantle! When was the last time you thought of someone outside of yourself, Schnee!" Fiona retorted.
Winter sensing that this conversation was going nowhere stepped in between her brother and the happy huntress.
"Enough! None of us came here by choice so let's just stop this pointless arguing and move on."
Fiona huffed, "I couldn't agree more." She stomped away from the two siblings and found herself a seat in the theater.
Winter sighed, "It may not be ideal but as long as you are here Whitley, I would just suggest sitting tight and wait until you or all of us are able to leave this place."
"Hmph, very well. Thank you sister, it almost sounds like you care." Whitley took his leave and found a seat that was about four seats away from Weiss's team.
"Isn't there anywhere else you want to sit," Weiss practically hisses.
"Oh but Weiss it's the only seat that's close enough to you." Whitley affirmed.
Weiss groans in frustration, 'Hopefully it's only for one viewing…'
An acoustic guitar plays in the background as a montage of the events of and post-Episode 1 appears on the screen and a narrator began to talk.
" A month had passed since that fateful day. When everyone's world got all twisted, leaving them stranded in a castle in the sky. Since then, 2000 poor souls came to an abrupt and tragic end. Some by bad luck, others by sheer stupidity. I mean, really. Why would you just stand in fire? Anyways, that didn't bother The Kid none. He only cared about one thing, and one thing alone. Himself. 'Cuz in a game of life or death, you either live... or you die."
The scene transitions to Shirou leaning against a wall with an annoyed look on his face.
"What?! Two thousand of the players have died already!" Ruby yelled, tears starting to form in her eyes.
"Not surprising, seeing as many of them looked weak last viewing." Cinder coolly replies.
Many huntsmen and huntresses glared at the red clad woman. She paid them no mind.
"Well thank you very much Narrator, you're doing a wonderful job of explaining the total death count of this video game prison." Whitley commented dryly.
"Oh, WOW. What brilliant insight! It's so deep it loops right back around to being stupid." Shirou snarked.
"The Kid ranted at no one, it slowly dawning just how alone he truly was" Narrator continued..
Whitley's eyes narrowed, "Am I being sassed by the narrator?"
"Maybe you said something to piss them off." Fiona added.
"Wait, what was that?" Shirou asks, shocked.
"He asked the sky, like a preacher to his silent gods."
"What gods? What are you talking about?! It's all bullshit metaphors with you!"
"He cried, not knowing the difference between a simile and a metaphor. The tininess of his brain dwarfed only by the tininess of his di-"
Whitley's eyes narrowed and face twitched at how much of an annoyance this narrator was being.
Weiss was doing her best to conceal her smile but was failing and breathes out a laugh. She was enjoying the exchange that her brother was going through and found it amusing. Her team gave her a side glance while Fiona and a few others laughed at the roast session the young Schnee was being given.
"Narrator off." Shirou commands the system with an annoyed tone.
"YOUCANSILENCEMEBUTYOUCAN'TSILENCETHETRU-" The narrator got cut off.
"Dick."
"Thank gods that's over, that narrator was extremely rude." Whitley sighed thankfully now that the narrator was silenced.
Weiss and Fiona grumbled that their fun was ruined.
Fade into December 2, 2022, on a strategy meeting led by man called Diabel. He gave a big smiled out to the crow
"Hey everyone. Thank you all for coming to our little powwow. Now, I know many of you may be discouraged by the fact that 2000 people have died so far."
" WHAT?!" A player screamed
" 2000 PEOPLE ARE DEAD?!" Another screamed.
"IT HASN'T EVEN BEEN A MONTH YET!"
"OH MY GOD, WE REALLY ARE FUCKED!"
"Pretty much, sucks to be you!" Mercury laughed.
"These are the people that have to survive this game. Honestly what was blondie expecting," Emerald facepalms.
"Hey! Just because they've lost numbers doesn't mean that they have to lose hope!" Ruby glared at the two assassins.
"And I know even more of you are a little down because we haven't even cleared the First Floor yet." Diabel added, trying to keep the smile on his face.
"WE HAVEN'T?!"
"I THOUGHT WE WERE ALMOST DONE...!"
"You were saying." Cinder looked back at Ruby.
"Well…" Ruby trailed off, thinking of a way to defend these players.
Diabel's smile wavered
"Uh, you guys do know there are 100 Floors, right?"
"WHAT?!" A crowd of players yelled.
Diabels sighed a bit.
Ruby, despite her best attempts, also sighed and sat back down.
"Oh jeez, I am just making things worse. Point is, we found the Boss Room!"
The crowd gasps.
"Now, we've formulated a few strategies with some help from the beta testers-"
"BETA TESTERS?!" A voice yells out.
"Oh goddammit!" Diabel groaned argnily
A player named Kibaou jumps in.
Kibaou, what do you want? Diabel looked tired addressing this player.
"Beta testers? They're the reason we're stuck in this game!" Kibaoyu sneered
Many that heard this player's statement and quickly frowned at his blatant accusations towards these 'beta-testers.'
"This guy can't be serious, right?" Coco stated.
Dianel looked at Kibaou flatterausted at the stupidity of the statement he heard
"What?! Do you have any evidence to back that up?"
Kiabrou scoffed at the question. "Pfft! Evidence. I don't need no evidence. Isn't that right, Jesus?" He points to a player named "Jesus"
" It's pronounced "Hey-Zeus", and I don't know you."
"Wow, really selling your reasoning by having no one else to support your claim." Jaune stated while crossing his arms.
"Well, they still should have helped us newbies!" He exclaimed
"If I might interject...:" A deep voice called out.
A big muscular man gets up and comes to the stage.
Velvet taps Yatsu's arm excitedly, "Hey you're in this game too Yatsu! …oh gods you're in this game too."
"So it seems," Yatsu, doing his best to keep a straight face.
Coco lowered her shades along with a confused look. As far as she knew, Velvet was the only one who played video games on their team. Unless...
"And who the hell are you?!"
"I am known by many names.", "Closed eyed demon. The memory easer., "Hooked clawed tiger". But you? You may call me... "Velvet".
"Velvet huh? That's a... pretty masculine name." Kibaoru said adwarkley
"Shouldn't be. It's a woman's name." Velvet replied casually.
"Damn it. I had a feeling but I didn't want to be right." Coco cursed quietly while shaking her head.
"Wait, why would Yatsu have a character named after me? That doesn't- ...Oh ...oh my gods." Velvet's eyes widened at the implications, tears starting to build. That is until she felt a nudge on one of her shoulders. She turned her head and there was Yatsuhashi looking at Velvet with a gaze that said, 'It's not your fault.'
"Kay, I don't know how to talk to you."
"Good. Then you can shut up and listen. Does everyone here have this book in their inventory?"
" Yeah.
" Yes."
"Yup."
"Yeah."
" No... Wait, can I change my answer?"
Velvet/Yatsushi held up a book to show to everyone.
" This book is full of tips and strategies on how to survive this game, put together by the beta testers. Everyone read it, yet some people still died. The beta testers did everything they could."
"Yeah, that means Mace Hair has no reason to blame the beta testers!" Ruby points out.
Many of her friends nodded and Yastu's team smiled at the sound defense his alternate presented.
" Actually, I didn't read it." One player chimed up.
"Yeah, I didn't read it either."
"I skimmed it."
"OH COME ON!" Many members of the audience shouted in agitation.
"What? Didn't ANY of you read it?! It is literally a matter of life and death." Velvet exclaimed
"Well, dude. It's like 80 pages." A player pointed
"2000 people are dead!"
"THEY ARE?!"
"Again. These are the people that have to survive this game." Emerald reiterates.
Brief pause. Shirou looks shocked at their stupidity.
"I am so done with you people." Velvet mutters, walking off the stage.
" What do you mean "you people"?" A player asked a bit offended.
The Faunus in the room narrowed at their eyes at the implications made by that player.
"What do you mean, "you people"?" Fiona asks no one in particular.
Velvet and Kibaou take their seats.
Diabel continued with the meeting. "So, as Mister Hooked clawed tiger was saying, this book has some great strategies, including how to beat the First Boss, Illfang."
He clears his throat and starts reading from the guide.
"So as you enter the Boss Room, he's gonna throw wave after wave of disposable minions at you... and you must answer in kind."...?
"Uh, what?" A player asks, mirroring Diabel confusion.
Many in the audience reacted just as confused. All except Whitley, who had a good feeling where this was going.
Diabel continues
"Send the weaker players first. Good rule of thumb: If a player asks you for gold 2 seconds after meeting you, front lines."
"Ha, serves 'em right!" Kiaboru said with a laugh
"If they hijack conversations to rant about their political views, front lines."Diabel said with a smirk looking at Kiaboru.
Kibaou went pale. "Aw, shit."
"Ha! Serves you right!" Nora laughed.
"If they ask female players for pics of their boobs, front lines."
"OH BULLSHIT!" One player screamed out in rage.
"THAT'S DISCRIMINATION!" Another one howled.
"BOO!"
Many of the women in the theater frown at the way those players reacted. Winter was more than certain that those players were the type that participated in the mentioned acts the speaker spoke on.
Diabel smiles and waves them down. "Now, now, people. I think there are some valid points being made here. Now, it goes on to say when Illfang's health goes into the red, he's going to switch from his axe and buckler to something called a "Talwar". At that point we should initiate a strategy called "The Final Solution" and- I'm just gonna stop reading! Jesus, who wrote this thing?"
Shirou giggles evilly.
"Of course Whitley wrote that book." Weiss sighed.
"Why sister, it sounds like that didn't surprise you in the least." Whitley pretending to act hurt.
"Please. The manipulative tone of the text almost makes one sound too much like you." Weiss bit back.
"Well I suppose you would know." A wide smile on Whitley's face.
Weiss scoffs turning her head away from her traitorous brother.
Team R_BY and Winter watched the exchange and sighed.
"Okay, so the guide's a bust. But it'll be fine. I'll come up with a great plan for us." Diabel smiles at the crowed.
"Like what?"
" Well... we... could... Uh... Uhhhh... I'm open to suggestions."
"Woah, guys, we could- we could, you know, like, group up and-"
"And hit it 'til it DIES!" Another yelled finishing the other player sentence
"Woo, nice!"
"Yeah!"
" High five!"
The two hive five.
"Well. It's something, right?." Velvet does her best to be optimistic.
Many of the more experienced members of the theater shake their heads.
"That's... a good start. But let's hear some other suggestions."
"I'd like to hear more about this "Final Solution"." A player in a german accent piped up.
"Fuck it, group up." said Diabel said tirely.
Shirou slides down the seats towards a girl, named Fiona, who's on her own.
Fiona blinks in surprise, "Oh my gods, that's me! I'm in the game! Hey other me, stay away from the Schnee!"
"You have my condolences." Weiss says to the sheep faunus.
"So, why aren't, uh, you joining anyone's group?" Shirou asked.
"I have my reasons." She said mysterioly
" Is it because you're a girl?"
"No. It's because... I don't know how to play."
"Because you're a girl?"
Many of the females and males who enjoy video games, such as Yang, Ruby, Velvet, Nora,, Jaune, Oscar, Ren, surprisingly Mercury and Emerald, along with Fiona herself, threw questioning glares towards the current heir of the SDC. Weiss and Winter glared at him as well but for other reasons.
Whitley looks around to see all the glares directed towards him. "Why are you all looking at me? I said nothing."
"No!" Fiona snapped. "It's just... I don't know how to open the menu."
"What?" Both Fiona and Whitley asked.
"Jinx!" Nora shouts.
"What?!" Shriou looked at the girl in shock. "But you can't do anything in this game without the menu. How have you survived all month?"
Cut to Fiona holding a piece of bread. She is staring at it intensely. "HOW DO I EAT YOU?!" She screamed at it.
Many laughs were had at the poor girl's predicament, despite some of them doing their best to not do so but could not help themselves.
Fiona slowly sank into her chair, covering her face in shame. Her alternate was the utter definition of a newb player.
Back to the present.
"It's... been a challenge…" She muttered before looking at Shirou. "What about you? Why haven't you join the others?"
"Oh, lots of reasons. Mostly because they're a bunch of mouth-breathing neckbeards who think "LMAO" is how French people laugh."
" Ha ha, that's so Le Mao!" Said one player far away causing to Shirou shudder.
Whitley in the theater also shudders in disgust. If these were the people that he would have been surrounded by inside the game, then he too would have avoided them like a plague.
"Wow. You certainly... speak from the heart."
"Funny, I thought I was speaking from my mouth. But, eh, shows what I know about biology." He said with a smirk.
"No one else wanted you in their group, did they?"
"Shut up! It was mutual!"
"And who would blame me? Have you seen the players of this game? I'm honestly surprised they lived this long."
"You're just saying that 'cause no one wanted a smartass on their team." Fiona smirked.
"I'm sorry, were you speaking Menu Girl?" Whitley nonchalantly retorts.
Fiona's face grew red in embarrassment and agitation. She wanted nothing more than to raise her hand and activate her semblance right now. 'Give me a reason Schnee, I dare you.'
It cuts back to Diabel smiling and clapping his hands.
"Alright, looks like everyone's grouped up. Get plenty of rest tonight, people! We leave at noon!"
A player groans "Noon?"
"That's so early!"
Diabel sighs. "Alright. What about 1 o'clock?"
" Dude, come on!"
" God, fine! We leave at the crack of... 2:30, I guess. Lazy butts…"
"Christ, I'm gonna have to set my alarm."
Everyone in the theater did not have high expectations for these players as they would face their first challenge.
Cuts to December 3, 2022 Floor 1: Illfang's Tower, 7:30pm. Everyone's at the Boss Door and everyone except Diabel is exhausted.
"Okay, so there were a few more stairs than we realized. Apparently real life athletic ability translates into the game. Good to know." Diabel looked out to the sad sight in front of him.
"Oh, god. I can feel my lungs trying to kill me." One player whined.
" Is this sweat?!"
" I peed a little."
" Jesus, this is sad." Diabel said with a grimace.
One player vomits.
"Congrats Jaune, someone else has now become the new Vomit Boy of this viewing!" Yang exclaimed.
Jaune rolled his eyes at her attempt at making him feel better.
"Fuck it. Why don't you all just take a Cheetos and Mountain Dew break, and we'll reconvene in an hour."
1960 Batman-Esque transition with Cheetos and Mountain Dew.
" Dammit, guys! I was kidding! You weren't supposed to actually take an hour!" Dibal said in a rage."God, we've lost so much time. Let's just do this already! You all know the plan!"
Illfang jumps into the center of the room and roars. Kobolds pop in, and an error message pops up on the third one that says "Error: "Sentinel_ " not found."
Ruby and Nora laughed at the mob that got glitched.
"Alright, men!" Diabel began,"Form up and-"
"EVERY MAN FOR HIMSELF!" A player screams
The armies converge on each other.
"Are they serious! You can't just go gung-ho in a boss battle!" Jaune exclaimed at the increasingly apparent, dim-witted players.
"What?! No! Goddammit guys!" Diabel begins to bark out orders. "Squad B, quit attacking the Boss and keep the Sentinels off us! C, D, stop attacking from the front! Do you even know what "flank" means?! Squad F, for fuck's sake! Stop playing Bejeweled! *Groans* Squad G, get in there and help A and B!"
"Got it!" Shirou said with a nod rushing in.
"Don't talk back to…" Diabel did a double take."l Holy shit, really?!"
"How is Whitley the most sensible minded player in this game?!" Weiss asked.
"Weiss, have you seen the other players?" Blake asked her in a deadpanned tone.
"...Yes you're right, that's actually too much of an insult." Weiss admits.
Shirou attacks a Sentinel, leaving Fiona to finish it off.
"Okay, Fiona! What you're gonna wanna do here is-"
Fiona lets out a Battle Cry and kills the Sentinel in one hit.
Fiona in the theater perked up at this display, "Oh my- I can fight! Oh thank gods I can fight!"
Shirou eyes widened in shock "Wow, I thought she was hopeless, but her technique is flawless. If I didn't know any better, I'd say she's even better than I-"
"Hey Shirou! I killed the thing and now it says I have XPs! Is that bad? Am I dying?! Fiona cried out to him in fear."
Shirou rolls his eyes"Or... maybe... not."
"Miss Fiona, either your alternate is very lucky or is very out of base with technology. I can't tell which it is." Whitley stated.
"Shut up Schnee, she's trying!" Fiona defends her other self.
Illfang's health drops into the red. He snarls at the players and he tosses his weapons.
"Alright, men! This last part's gonna take careful coordination…" Diabel ran towards Illfang. "which is why I'm just gonna do it myself!"
Diabel charges his weapon art. Illfang draws his Ōdachi.
Ruby's eyes widened, "OH NO!"
Shirou looked and saw the weapon and his eyes widened calling to Diabel. "Oh shit! Diabel, look out! That's not a Talwar! It's an Ōdachi!"
"What's the difference?!" Diabel ask still running towards Illfang.
"Well, a Talwar is of Indian descent while an Ōdachi is Japanese! While both are primarily slashing weapons, the Talwar was favored by cavalrymen, as opposed to an Ōdachi which was mainly used for dick measuring!" As Shirou is talking, Illfang starts jumping off the walls.
" What's your point?!" Diabel asked impaintely.
"Well if you let me finish, I was getting to that! You see…"
Diabel gets hit by Illfang, screaming in pain.
Many of the huntsmen and huntresses in the theater either gasped in fear or looked away at the surely doomed player.
"What's happening? Did I miss something?" Fox called out.
"Oops." Shirou sheepishly said.
Illfang hits Diabel again, sending him flying.
"DIABEL!" Kibaou yelled out.
Illfang pops down in front of Kibaou and roars. A message pops up "Bonus Item: Soiled Pants". Above Kibaou
"Hey, rare drop!' A player said cheerfully.
Mercury laughed at the joke while most of the others were disgusted by the fact that that achievement was unlockable.
Shirou runs over to Diabel and holds him up.
" I was trying to say an Ōdachi's a little bit longer than a Talwar, so it'll have more reach and do a bit more damage."
"And why couldn't you say that first?" Diabel asked weakly
"Yeah you dummy! You almost might've killed him!" Ruby cries out.
Whitley was actually taken aback by that statement. Sure he had moments of pride and arrogance, sometimes he looked down on people but he didn't believe he would ever intentionally kill someone.
" I like to think of myself as a teacher. Anyway, drink this."
Shirou tries to give Diabel a healing potion but he stopped Shirou shaking his head.
"No. It's better this way. I just can't do it anymore. I had such high hopes at first. But now? Our best player is a girl who thinks DPS is some kind of sex thing." Both turned to glance to Fiona.
"I know. It's weird, right?"
Fiona sulked more into her chair.
"You're clearly not like the rest of them. How do you stand it, Shirou? Where do you draw your strength?" Diabel look at Shirou like a sage.
Shirou sigh and drops his wisdom onto him. "I've been playing MMO's a long time, Diabel, and if there's one thing I've learned, it's that lions do not concern himself with the opinions of sheep. Just take that little voice in your head that tells you to be tactful and understanding... and shoot it. Shoot it in the goddamn face."
" You are so wise. If only I'd met you sooner. Perhaps, things would have been different. You must lead them now. Show them this game can be beaten." Diabel let's go of Shirou wrist.
Weiss was taken aback that this man was actually willing to place trust in this alternate of her brother. This stranger who barely even knows him placed the lives of all the players into his hands. Much like how she tried to trust Whitley once… this caused a bitter frown to grow on her face in recollection. Even if this was a different version of him, it was still Whitley in her eyes.
Shirou smiles fondly at Diabel. "Another life... in another time... I think we could have been friends."
"I... doubt it." Diabel gasps out before turning to shattered glass, dying.
" Well fuck you, too!" Shirou said angrily his smile dropping into a frown.
Fiona slips in by Shirou's side and began to lay out a plan.
"Alright, Shirou. Here's what we'll do. One counters his blows to knock him off balance and the other switches in to attack. Rinse. Repeat. Victory."
Shirou looked at her with one eye. "You came up with that, but you can't open a menu."
"Shut up!" Fiona cried out.
Illfang roars and they take off running toward him.
"Alright, so you counter and I'll attack!" Shirou yelled to Fiona.
"What? No, it's my plan! I should attack!" Fiona yelled back.
"Fine, just get ready!"
Shirou makes a battle cry and counters Illfang's attack.
"SWITCH!"
Fiona moves in and gets her cloak destroyed by Illfang before attacking revealing white curly hair and sheep ears.
" See? You almost got yourself killed! I'll attack him!" Shirou yelled again and began to attack Illfang.
"Oh, that was a fluke, and you know it! He's mine!" Fiona yelled back.
Fiona attacks Illfang.
"Oh shit. They're actually giving that boss the work!" Coco called out.
"He's mine!" Shirou yelled.
Shirou blocks Illfang's next attack, but Fiona attacks him before Shirou can do so himself.:
"Mine!" Fiona screams
"NO! HE'S! MIIIIIIIIIIINE!"
Shirou slices Illfang and he explodes. Everyone is stunned. Lame party kazoo sound effect and a banner with the word "CONGRATULATION" appears.
"Yeah!" A player cheer.
This caused almost everyone in the audience to laugh. Despite the dark humor of it all, it was still pretty hilarious.
"What happened? Did they win?" Fox asks
"Oh yes, I'm sorry Fox! They beat the boss and a victory banner came out."
"...heh." Fox chuckled.
Shirou is panting. He gets an item as a reward for defeating the Boss.
"Congratulations!" Velvet said, patting him on the back. "That was even more impressive than that cat that learned to play."
Cut to a player with a cat's head, with another player staring at it.
"Meow."
"Huh what did you know?" Yang replied.
"Oh my god! You guys can see it too?! So I'm not crazy! Isn't that great, Jesus?!" We see things from the players' perceptive, with a giant hallucination of Jesus Christ looming over the crowd.
"That's right, Jeffrey. Now... kill them all." Jesus said, his voice growing darker.
"As you command, my Lord." Jeffrey whispered.
"Somethings very wrong with that guy." Qrow states.
"I honestly agree with you, Branwen… Blegh! That left a horrible taste in my mouth." Winter stated.
Cut back to Velvet talking to Shirou. The other players are applauding his victory.
"You've led us to victory, Shirou. These men and I will follow you to hell itself. Now... address your people." Velvet is smiling and pushing Shirou to the crowd.
Shirou gets up and smirks. "I always knew this day would come. Ahem. Fellow gamers! We have traveled far and up many stairs to get to this point. Fighting side by side, noobs, and leets, alike. I'd like to take a moment to say that I couldn't have done it without the help of each and every one of you."
"Aw, that's a nice thing to say-" Velvet was cut off when Shirou counties.
"Of course, I'm not a liar, so I'm not gonna say any of that."
"Oh shit."
"I thought as much." Weiss states.
Shirou grins look at the group. "I mean, really. I could've done this whole Boss Fight myself. But to be fair, I guess you did absorb a bit of damage for me, which was nice. You were an adequate meat shield, and no one can ever take that away from you."
"Fuck. Fuck! Shut up! SHUT UP!" Velvet started to say.
"So for those of you who came in late, and that one guy playing Bejeweled back there... shoot for the stars... it'll make it more fun when I kick you back into the dirt."
"You're not better than us!" Kiaboru said.
"Yeah! What makes you think you're so cool?!" Nora shouts to the screen.
Shirou equips the coat he got for beating Illfang and smugly looks at the group."My sweet-ass coat begs to differ."
"Dammit, he's got us there." one player muttered.
Shirou ascends the stairs out of the Boss Room. Fiona follows him and grabs him by the shoulder. "Shirou, wait!"
Those in the audience looked on at Fiona's alternate in hope. Surely she could turn him around after their excellent display of partnership.
"I want half." She said, staring at him blankly.
That hope was quickly squashed, shot at, and finally burned to death via gasoline and cracking a fire dust crystal.
Shirou turns to her confused. " I'm... sorry. What?!"
"I want half the coat. I did half the work, I should get half the coat." Fiona explain and extends her hand for him give it to her.
"No! It's not fabric I can cut! It's just a bunch of 1s and 0s!" Shirou was getting frustrated.
"Fine, then give me the 1s."
" Fuck you! I want the 1s!" He groans and open the menu. "I am not having this argument. I'm disolving this party." Shirou opens his menu and "Di-solves" their party.
"Shirou! If you walk away with my half of the coat, I will make your life a living hell!" Fiona screamed.
"You know what? Fine! I'll give you the damn coat! Just send me a trade request."
"A... what?"
Fiona's eyes widened as she watched from the theater, "No…"
Shirou grins viciously "Oh, it's quite simple really... Just open your menu." Shirou starts laughing maniacally as he walks out the doors as Fiona screams at him:"YOU SON OF A BITCH!" At him.
Outro Plays.
Fiona screams, "I can't believe the nerve of that-! GRAAAAH!"
"Can you please stop screaming! You're going to cause everyone's ears to bleed." Whitley said while using a handkerchief to rub his ears.
Fiona huffed then matched off, going to another place in the theater.
"Well that was interesting. So you all say there's other viewings where we see other worlds besides this one." Coco asked the group.
"Oh yeah, we've seen a couple worlds ourselves, but only a handful I'd say." Yang admits.
"Well as long as we're here, we might as well take time to catch up." Velvet smiled.
"Yeah, this will be great! It's almost like we're back at Beacon, right Weiss? ...Weiss?" Ruby looks beside her but noticed that her partner was not with them anymore.
In another side of the theater, the all three Schnee siblings stand together. Both of the youngest siblings look at Winter who brought them here.
Winter clears her throat, "I understand that there are some… tension between the three of us during this viewing. So I asked you both here so that we may come to terms with our situation."
Weiss scoffs, "Come to terms with him! I highly doubt that."
Whitley crosses his arms, "Yes it does seem like a lost cause Winter."
"Enough! Both of you!" Winter raised her voice causing both of her younger siblings to go rigid. "I'm not expecting you to get along or even apologize to each other at the moment. What I ask is if you two can at least act civil with one another while in the theater?"
Both Weiss and Whitley looked at each other and sneered at each other.
"Why of course I can be civil with Whitley. It is a virtue of a lady to be civil at all times." Weiss said with hidden venom.
"Quite true, but being civil is also a quality an heir of the Schnee family must cultivate as well. So I look forward to spending this immeasurable amount of time with you my sisters." Whitley said with his best presentable smile.
"Yes, how I enjoy us taking this time to reacquaint with each other." Weiss said while one of her eyes was twitching.
"Well then sister, shall we?" Whitley gestured for Weiss to go ahead of him. Almost would have been believable if one did not notice the glint in his eyes and his strained smile.
Winter watched as both Weiss and Whitley walked back to the auditorium where everyone else had remained.
"...This can only end badly."
Hope you enjoyed.

Meditations on Playing as Earthlings in Dragon Ball Xenoverse, Part 1
As a battle shounen series especially amenable to fans making their own original characters, I found it a bit surprising that, best I can tell, the first Dragon Ball game that let you create your own character was the Asia-only MMO Dragon Ball Online launched in 2010. Besides being the precursor to the Xenoverse games in some ways - it introduced female Majin, Mira, Towa, and Fu - it’s also the first game that has to deal with a fairly minor Dragon Ball-specific issue: do you let people play as Earthlings?
Broadly speaking, a significant portion of MMO players are largely content to play as human or human-like characters. A 2019 analysis of World of Warcraft character data found that humans were the second-most common race, and only narrowly less common than the most common race. Humans are over two times more common than the other races in Guild Wars 2. And while I don’t think there’s any comparable data for the Xenoverse games (or Dragon Ball Online, for that matter), this is what I saw not long after I joined a multiplayer lobby:
Tumblr media
If we accept the framing of “video games as escapism”, this isn’t that surprising. Sure, for some people the whole point is to do fantastical shit and be fantastical beings that you can’t be in real life for any number of reasons, but for others, the whole point of “escaping” into another world is to still be yourself and see a facsimile of yourself exist in that world. Through your avatar, you may adopt certain facets of the world, but core to the draw is that, at least in some identifiable way, the person running around and doing all the neat shit is you.
So naturally, you’d think, people will want to play as themselves, Earthlings are a thing in Dragon Ball, so a Dragon Ball game is going to let you play as Earthlings, right? Well, yeah, but also, no, absolutely not, do you know anything about Dragon Ball?
Tumblr media
There’s two wrinkles to this line of thinking that are relevant to Dragon Ball in particular. First, there’s the fact that Earthlings in the Dragon Ball series proper are almost universally punch lines. The most prominent Earthling heroes, specifically Krillin, Tien, and Yamcha, more or less exist as holdovers from previous eras, because given the worldbuilding and narrative trajectory of Dragon Ball, they are effectively incapable of staying relevant as action protagonists. If they manage to be in the spotlight for any amount of time without getting punted back into irrelevancy, it borders on being anomalous.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The only notable exception is Bulma, since she’s always served an entirely different narrative function, and even then, it’s a narrative function that is usually only relevant for the introduction and conclusion of an arc at most. It would probably be interesting to see what kind of dumb bullshit Bulma runs into and has to deal with given her station in life, but you’re basically never going to see that significantly explored in Dragon Ball media, let alone in a Dragon Ball video game where action, especially direct combat, is everything.
(Everything I just wrote also makes pre-crisis Videl all the more fascinating of a presence, but I’ll get back to that.)
Second, and very related, Saiyans exist.
Tumblr media
If you knew or were a kid (especially a boy) who was really into Dragon Ball, there was a good chance they wanted to be a Saiyan, because going Super Saiyan and having spiky hair and power literally glowing around you and yelling really loud and being super strong and throwing big ol’ freaking energy blasts was, like, the coolest thing ever. It is the quintessential Dragon Ball power fantasy, for a series that for a while (and arguably still is) centrally obsessed with power. For a lot of people, that is Dragon Ball. Saiyans and everything surrounding them are Dragon Ball.
Combine that with the fact that Saiyans are almost visually indistinguishable from Earthlings (as a holdover from Goku being retroactively made a Saiyan) and the primary visual difference (a tail) being completely optional and at this point completely irrelevant, and really, why would anyone make their character an Earthling? There’s effectively no downside to making a Saiyan instead: you still look like an Earthling, you get access to the Saiyan set of powers, and you don’t lose access to anything even remotely comparable.
Dragon Ball Online’s answer to this issue was to not allow players to create Saiyan characters. You can only pick between human, Namekian, and Majin races. However, as a human, after reaching a high enough level and wishing on the Dragon Balls, you can actually gain the ability to turn Super Saiyan, because hey, as it turns out, you’re a direct descendent of both Goku and Vegeta so you totally had Saiyan blood in you all this time, you just couldn’t tap into it until now, WHADDYA KNOW.
Tumblr media
In Dragon Ball Heroes, your avatar can be a Saiyan (and is a Saiyan by default), but cannot be an Earthling - the only thing even slightly comparable is being an android a la 17, 18, and Cell, and they’re only comparable if you accept describing Android 18 and Krillin as both Earthlings. It’s technically true, but in the context of power as defined in Dragon Ball, it doesn’t particularly feel accurate.
Tumblr media
You can create a character in Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Tenkaichi, but they must be a male Saiyan. That’s the start and end of it. You can change their abilities and design, but they must be a male Saiyan.
Tumblr media
Dragon Ball Fusions lets you create an Earthling, and in fact, the default stand-in, Tekka, is an Earthling himself. Additionally, given that different races have access to different abilities, there are actual reasons you would want to play as an Earthling rather than a Saiyan. But this is at least slightly undercut by the game’s primary power-up mechanic, Fusion, being race-agnostic, which flattens the gameplay experience from race to race, and the ability for Saiyan avatars to access Super Saiyan at Level 88, the level at which Earthling counterparts instead learn... a stronger Kamehameha.
Tumblr media
To summarize, when it comes to Dragon Ball games with character creation, one game doesn’t really offer anything all that comparable in exchange for playing as an Earthling and giving up the ability to go Super Saiyan, one game makes all Earthlings effectively sleeper Saiyans, and two games don’t even let you play as Earthlings at all. So what do we make of the Xenoverse games?

Word count: 1.2k
Taglist: (I definitely think I missed some of you and some usernames were changed from my last list😭  so im sorry if this is all wrong lol.  I am doing away with taglists for the most part but ill keep on for faerie realm if anyone wanted to be tagged let me know) : @taekookandyoongi @life-anime-food @i-like-puppy-mg @seesawsmin-flower @karissassirak @btsvisuals @vynia
A/N: Okay it's been months but Faerie Realm is back y'all! So let me explain myself.  Faerie Realm is my baby, and this series is FAR from done.  But, I got stumped, really bad lol  The way I ended the last chapter I honestly didn’t have a plan on where to go to transition to what I wanted to happen next, and I didn’t totally know what to do for the boss fight scene.  So, I hope we aren’t mad about this but there is a time jump happening.
This chapter is called 13.5 because I wanted to have an explanation of what went on in our characters lives during the months that pass between chapter 13 and 14.
Thank you to those who still send asks about Faerie Realm, and to the new readers who I see binging through the series in my notifications.  I love you all and appreciate you patiently waiting for this update of my ridiculous fic I love so much.
Tumblr media
The boss battle had gone smoothly, without a hitch.  Yoongi and Namjoon’s fire attacks were extra effective against the type of creature that was in the cave, and many other groups had joined in to take it down.
You and Hoseok were thanked and rewarded by quite a few of the other groups for your healing you’d done for their team during the attack.  Though you insisted you didn’t need to be compensated you both wound up with quite a lot more gold in your inventory than you’d started with.
You didn’t feel like you needed to be rewarded though.  You did heal quite a few people from other teams, but there were quite a few times where you knew you could’ve been healing another team’s member, yet, you were too scared to take both your hands away from Jungkook.  Memories of the attack in the woods where you’d almost lost him running through your mind.
After defeating the boss, a giant glowing blue portal with white flecks swirling around in circles like dye dropped into water appeared.  It sat in the back of the cave where the boss had spawned.
The first team to go through wasn’t your own.  Jungkook had held your team back, skeptical of the newly spawned portal, saying it wouldn’t hurt to let someone else test it out first.
Almost instantly the guinea pig team as you’d all called them, a group of all Fire Fairies, returned back the way they came.  They gave it the all clear, and upon realizing this really was the portal to level 2 the surviving players of Faerie Realm started to pour in to the next floor.
There were those players who chose to stay back in the starting village, not many but a few.  It was mostly those who had been too scared to leave it in the first place.
A lot of people made fun of them and many whispers and harsh words were passed around by the other players.
“Why should we be out here risking our lives for players that aren’t going to even help.”
“You know this game has limited resources right? Certain things don’t respawn and yet here we are sending food back to the main town.”
That sentiment tied in to an even darker one floating around the groups.
“We should just kill the players not helping out.  All they are doing is being lazy, and taking resources we need to live.”
Upon hearing that spoken in a bar on floor two Jungkook had stood up on his table, well drunk, but speaking clearly.
“Say that again.” He growled, now looking down at the group of Sylphs that had been drunkenly muttering those words far too loud.
The tallest of the men turned around to Jungkook, staring up at him unphased.
“I said, we should get rid of all the leeches in Main Town, who sit around on their ass all day while *we* get our ass’s kicked down into the red to get us all out of here.”
Jungkook paused for a moment.
“You think that they wouldn’t help if they could?” He asked, “You don’t think that they wish they were out here helping.  Some of those people back there have never played an MMO in their life let alone even picked up a video game, and you expect them to be out here doing what you’re doing?” Jungkook hissed.
“Ah bullshit, we all know your girl started out as a first time player, word gets around.  I don’t see any excuses for them not just putting in the effort like she did.” The green haired man rolled his eyes.
Jungkook now jumped down from the table, you had gasped for a second thinking in his drunkenness he’d fall but he landed smoothly in front of the man, their chests now almost touching.
“You think just cuz one exception happens that means anyone can just do it huh? That everyone has the resources and opportunities and people to coach them through the game? 90% of those people back in Main would die the instant they stepped foot out of the safe zone.  Those are people’s families.  People’s moms who decided to pick up the game to try out before giving it to their kid for their birthday.  So fuck you.  I’ll fight to get them out of this game.  I’ll fight to get us all out of this game.  If you’re just doing this for yourself you might as well just fly into a dragon's mouth and get fucked…”
“Ohhhh kay.” Taehyung was now pulling Jungkook away from the fuming sylph who was now turning beet red and pursing his lips together so tightly you thought he’d pull a muscle.
You were proud of Jungkook though, his attitude had greatly changed from when this all had first gone down.  He’d gotten less selfish, more caring, he was a hero in this game.
You on the other hand found yourself turning opposite.  The longer you stayed in this game, the more you cared just about you and your team getting out of this alive than anything else.
It wasn’t easy knowing how to feel.  You certainly wouldn’t go around talking about killing the townspeople of main though.  Some people in this game were just vile, not far off from the real world.
--------------------------
In the months after the boss battle that led your team to floor two, you’d grown close with all of the boys.  Your newest additions Yoongi and Hoseok had stuck around the whole time and there was no doubt this was your permanent group.
You and Hoseok had especially grown close, being that the two of you shared the rare trait of being a water fairy you’d often get grouped together when doing raids so that you could use a series of double team healing spell moves that you’d come up with together.
He was honestly becoming your best friend.
Things with Jungkook had stayed the same, you loved him, and he loved you.
Jimin and you still kept each other at an awkward distance, but the months spent every day together had certainly healed much of the strain between the two of you.
Though Jungkook never quite fully got on board with being fond of Jimin, he was kinder to him and things had been civil.
Namjoon and Yoongi became quick friends over similar reasons to you and Hoseok, a shared set of skills made for some great bonding moments.
Jin you’d gotten to know better, realizing there was an extremely funny and entertaining man under the fear that he’d had for so long was one of the highlights of your time here.
Growing closer to all of them was such an odd gift you’d gotten through this life or death game.
----------
--(Snippet from chapter 14 :D)
“Y/n?” Taehyung called out from behind the almost unreal blue veil of water separating the two of you.
“I’m still here…” You spoke quietly.  Not quite sure how to respond to his confession. “I just don't know what to say.  Jungkook is…”
“I know.” He cut you off.
You couldn’t see him well, you wanted to just push through the water and run over to him, shake him, ask him why the hell he thought it was okay to say this to you now.
“I just thought you should know.”

So I’ve been leveling Darya through the game, reached early Stormblood last night, and while playing it, I have had some thoughts on the matter of the story. Coming at random, and under a cut, so there’s spoilers there:
1. What was the point of the whole “frame the WoL for the murder of the Sultana” detour anyway?
I mean, first off, who the fuck was going to believe that the Warrior of Light would do that in the first place? It’s not like anyone DID anyway...in the story you went to Limsa and no one bothered you, hell the game lampshades it when you go to Mor Dhona. It only serves the narrative purpose of splitting up the Scions and getting you to Ishgard. It barely plays a part of the narrative of Heavensward-there’s a duty where you save Raubhan, and then the whole business is resolved in a cut scene where you’re given the deus ex machina potion to wake up the Sultana and then it’s dragons all the way down until you hit the evil elf pope part.
It feels to me like someone at some point wanted to really blow up the story and make big, significant things happen and about halfway through got cold feet, because really, 2.5 doesn’t deliver on the promise of what it could have, beyond shaking up the status quo of the Scions. And not even all of them, since that basically boiled down to “Minfilia goes to the Momcrystal, Y’shtola goes blind, Thancred can’t use magic.” Definitely feels like Square kind of backed off at the last moment and somewhere out there there’s a story that really plays off of 2.5 to the full extent it could have.
2. I got to ask how the hell did dragons evolve the way they did.
I mean, what kind of evolutionary advantage does “all their power rests in their eyes, and they can give away their eyes to others” even confer? How the hell did the dragons even figure that out in the first place? “Oh damn, my eye fell out...oh hey, look what I can do with it now that it’s out.”
I mean, the eyes of Nidhogg are a neat plot device and it was also a nice, subtle clue to what was going on when you realized Nidhogg’s other eye was yellow, but I guess I got the kind of brain that goes “even for magical animals, the whole eye thing makes no sense.”
3. Why didn’t Hraesvelgr do more to help Ysayle when she attacked the Garlean battleship beyond fly her there?
I know, they were saving that for 3.3 where his brood properly joins the Dragonsong War, but it felt so off when he just dropped her to her death and flew off without a word. He was as strong as Nidhogg then, so he could’ve done SOMETHING. I dunno, this just rang wrong to me.
4. On the subject of dragon eyes...okay, so when I went through Stormblood on Baidar, I skipped to 60 and to Stormblood, because I remembered how bad ARR was to level through and I wanted as far away from it as possible. I’m now aware that was a mistake, but as a result, I didn’t really get why Zenos beating us like a drum was a big deal. On Darya, though, I’ve seen everything leading up to it, and man...
You’re the Warrior of Light. You have half the power of an ancient dragon in addition to your own. You just defeated Nidhogg and ended the Dragonsong War. Before you beat him, without the power of a dragon, you beat a primal fueled by a thousand years of prayer and hope so soundly that you made the man who summoned it terrified at the very notion of you. You are an impossibility, a godslayer. So, yes, it is valid that you needed to be knocked down a peg or there would be no tension in the story (for a given value: the Warrior of Light is always going to win in some shape or form since it’s a MMO and there’s always more expansions.)
But Zenos does absolutely nothing to EARN that. He just shows up, goes “I REALLY STRONG” and kicks your ass in an unwinnable fight because he’s level 70 and you’re in a level 61 or so duty. I saw someone somewhere say that Zenos is that kid who shows up on the playground and god modes, and that is the best description of him there is. They can retroactively provide a reason why he dwarfs our power at the start of Stormblood, but it still feels like bullshit. It’s bullshit that he easily beat Gaius and Estinien in Shadowbringers. (For my money, Estinien is probably the only person in the WoL’s league, and in my headcanon he’s stronger than Baidar until Baidar makes a katana out of a scale of Nidhogg, and that just evens it out.) and it’s bullshit that he’s still a threat to the WoL now. He feels like a DBZ villain, a walking power up that is just strong without explanation.
5. I was amused to see that during the whole arc with the Warriors of Darkness, the Warrior of Darkness was named “Arbert” and the character we came to know as Renda-Rae had a J tribe miqo’te name. Early draft weirdness is always fun to see.
Also, really, Urianger, who the hell did you think you were fooling by taking off your goggles?
Hell...someone explain to me just why Urianger had to act like a traitor anyway? What indispensable part to the plot did he play by acting like a traitor? Plus that meant twice in this game, we had someone appear with an Ascian, seemingly working with them, only to pull the rug out from under their feet. Hell, you could have ran the same plot with Urianger at the side of the Scions but constantly hiding the endgame with sending Minfilia to the First and gotten a LOAD more angst out of it. Was a strange narrative choice to me.
6. Not story related really, but Hilda is fucking adorable and should get more screen time. Someone team her up with Thancred again for adventures!

672.
When was the last time you let someone know you truly love him/her? >> Hm.
Do you complain when you are bored, or look for something to do? >> I might say that I’m bored, conversationally, if I’m not alone. But usually I just flop around and wait until my brain settles down. (Usually, boredom for me isn’t a lack of things to do, it’s just a kind of restlessness or anxiety that prevents me from doing anything or focusing on anything.)
Do other people's complaints ever get on your nerves? >> Sure.
Generally, what is your favorite ride at an amusement park? >> I remember liking roller coasters, but I haven’t been to an amusement park in a long time.
Who is your favorite 90's musical artist? >> I mean, a lot of the music I enjoy is from the nineties...
Do you think that music was better when your parents were young, or now? >> Music is just music. Some of it I like, some of it I don’t like, but every time period in the past century-plus has had its pop music that older people hate. I think it’s just more difficult to adapt to new music trends as one gets older, and one is more likely to experience nostalgia for the music they grew up with, and mistakenly assume that their nostalgia means that the music was obviously objectively better back then. There are some musical trends that I wish were still knocking around, sure, but there are some new trends that I love, too. People will always be around making music that I like, no matter what year it is.
How did you develop your specific taste in music? >> I mean, it wasn’t any effort on my part. I just like what I like; I assume it’s mostly subconscious.
If you drink coffee, how do you like it (with cream, black, etc)? >> Black.
Did your parents sign you up for things like piano lessons and ballet? >> He always signed me up for things I didn’t enjoy, and then wondered why I didn’t perform to his standards.
What is your favorite children's song? >> I don’t have one.
Is there a funny story about yourself that you like telling others? >> Probably, but I can’t remember it right now.
Are you good at telling jokes? >> No, I don’t have the memory for constructed jokes.
Are you uptight, or are you easy going? >> I’m neurotic about some things because of how I’m wired, and I’m pretty apathetic about other things for the same reason.
Other than gas, what do you frequently purchase at a gas station? >> I don’t regularly buy things at gas stations.
What is one concern you have about the present state of the world? >> Meh.
Ten years ago, did you think that this was how the world would turn out? >> I wasn’t thinking about how the world would turn out ten years from then.
Ever think you might be better off living in a different time period? >> No.
Do you drink regular or diet soda? >> If I’m going to drink soda, I’m going to drink regular soda.
What CDs would you take with you on a road trip? >> Thank god for Spotify.
Think of your favorite band? What album by them is your LEAST favorite? >> I don’t have a favourite band.
Have you seen your favorite band in concert? If so, how was it? >> I’ve seen live several bands I’ve called “favourite” in the past. They were all great shows.
Do you walk regularly? >> I don’t. Especially not in this season.
Did you take a Health class in high school? How was it? >> Yeah. I don’t know, I slept through most of it.
If you could have the answer to one question, what question would that be? >> ---
Do you like any bands from other countries? >> Sure, of course.
When was the last time you mailed a handwritten letter? >> Uh... middle school?
Do you still receive Christmas cards? >> Not unless I do a card exchange amongst my tumblr mutuals, which I did do one year. But executive dysfunction got in the way last season so I didn’t get around to it.
Do you know anyone who is really hard to please? >> I mean, maybe.
What gets you through the day? >> *shrug*
Do you have a Before Bed routine? >> Not really. I just make sure to take my pill at around 10p.
Describe your stance on organized religion? >> I don’t have a stance on it, really. I find some aspects of it fascinating, some aspects of it helpful, and other aspects of it harmful. Just like... anything, I guess? I’m considering conversion to a particular organised religion, but I’ve been spoiled by the sheer freedom of being unaffiliated and I’m not sure how willing I am to give that up.
Describe your stance on religion in general? >> I’m notoriously interested in and even passionate about religion in general, even when I don’t care to personally participate in it. It’s one of those things I’d consider majoring in if I was in any way inclined towards formal education.
If you found out your bf/gf was homosexual, how would you react? >> Whaaaaat? The woman that is always saying “I’m gay” at any given occasion (particularly when she sees other women) is not straight?????? News to me.
If you are homosexual, and you find out your bf/gf is straight, then what? >> I mean, that’s a situation I can’t really imagine being in.
Have you ever sung karaoke? What songs? Was it fun? >> I’ve sung at live-band karaoke... I’d say around 100, 150 times? I was pretty much a regular. My go-to songs included Smells Like Teen Spirit, Jeremy, and No One Knows. Oh, and The Trooper until I saw [fellow regular] Dorit do a belly-dance bit with a sword on her head during the solo. I think all of us regulars gave up on doing The Trooper after that, lmfao.
Do you study for big tests? >> ---
What makes you nervous? >> Oh, a few things, I guess.
Have you called anyone today? What did you talk about? >> No.
When was the last time you went bowling? >> The last time I was even in a bowling alley is when I was eighteen. The only reason I remember is because that was the last time I saw Thomas before he died. (That bowling alley isn’t even there anymore. Always thought a bowling alley in Port Authority was weird, anyway...)
Do you drive around the neighborhood to look at lights around Xmas? >> We usually just see them on regular drives. When I lived in the Pine Barrens as a preteen, it was nice because we lived by a four-mile-long lake, and you could always see the reflections of the lights across the lake in the water. Also, there was this one house that always went absolutely apeshit with the lights every year. I shudder to think of their electric bill.
Why are so many single people bitter on Valentine's Day? >> Because they’re lonely or have been hurt by exes or are unhappily aromantic, and don’t like being bombarded by hearts and romantic shit everywhere. It’s not rocket science, dude.
What holiday is a big deal for you? >> I mean, Christmas. I enjoy it and for once in my life I get to fully celebrate it.
What is one tradition you hate participating in? >> I don’t know, but whatever it is, I probably just refuse to participate in it period.
Have you ever been sledding? >> Nope.
Do you have acne? >> Not since high school.
Have you made a fool of yourself today? >> Not to my knowledge.
Is there someone you wish you could talk to, but you're too afraid? >> Not specifically. But in general, fear is the foundation of why I don’t open up to people.
Do you have a favorite cookie? >> I like lemon cookies...
When was the last time you did something for someone else? >> Neighbour left her key in her door and I knocked on the door to alert her to it.
Do you let other people choose the radio stations in your car? >> ---
Would you say that you are an accepting and openminded person? >> Sure.
Have you ever been convinced to try something you didn't want to do? >> Not if I really didn’t want to do it. I’ve been convinced to try things that I was on the fence about.
What happened? How did you feel about your choice? >> ---
Have you ever tried to influence someone else? >> I mean, sure, probably.
When was the last time you cheated--at anything? >> I don’t remember.
Do you play any online computer games? If so, what? >> Yeah. I play several MMOs (not at the same time, I usually alternate between them from month to month).
What food can you not seem to get enough of? >> Cheese and crackers, for some reason.
When you are mad at someone, how do you show them? >> I usually just don’t talk to them or don’t give any friendly social cues. Kind of freeze them out, I guess. I figure most people don’t care if I’m upset with them or not, so it doesn’t make any sense to tell them or have a conversation about it. That may be fallacious, but I... also haven’t been explicitly proven wrong yet, lol.
Do you like to think that you are better than other people? >> No.
When was the last time you felt you had a reality check? >> I don’t know.
Have you ever felt out of touch with reality? >> Sure, many times.
Have you ever been sick to the point of possibly dying? >> Nope.
Have you ever had a tooth pulled? >> Yes, because I can’t afford a root canal.
How long do you you usually chew a stick of gum? >> Not that long. The flavour only lasts like five minutes at best, after all, and once the flavour’s gone the gum starts to lose pliability.
Did you chew gum in school, even if it was against the rules? >> I don’t recall doing so.
Did you take a foreign language in school? >> I tried. I didn’t get very far because of changing schools all the time, being in the mental hospital all the time, and also that stupid fiasco where I got no credit for a whole year of Spanish I (I don’t remember why, but it was definitely some bullshit).
Did you attempt to make Honor Roll? Did you make it? >> I only made honour roll in elementary.
What was your favorite school project? >> That report I did about Jim Morrison. Or that project I did about the war against rock and roll, lol (you know, the Satanic Panic around metal music and all that noise; I basically got tired of being told I listened to “devil music” and decided to expose the ridiculousness of it in my final project).
Did you attend any school dances? >> I mean, I went to prom.
Were you in any after school clubs? >> I tried to be, but my father made me leave them because he didn’t approve of the kinds of clubs I wanted to be in (and I didn’t want to be in the kinds of clubs he approved of).
Was there any teacher that made life living hell for you? >> I definitely felt that way.
How about any student(s)? >> Some years, yes.
When was the last time you felt overwhelmed? >> I don’t remember. It’s a common occurrence so I don’t make much note of it when it happens.
Which parent are you more apt to go to if you're upset? >> ---
Do you have any coffee mugs with funny pictures/sayings? >> I have a mug with a cute cactus on it! But Sparrow has all the punny mugs (they’re all cat puns).
Describe your favorite t-shirt? >> ---
Describe something strange that you own? >> Hmm... not sure I own anything strange. Or maybe it’s just that nothing I own is strange to me.
What do you like to do on a friday night? >> Go to Cafe Boba for a weekly meetup group.
What do you like to do on a sunday night? >> Whatever.
Are monday's a drag for you? >> No more or less than any other day of the week.
Do you think graffiti is a valid form of artistic expression? >> Of course.
Do you know where the food you eat comes from? >> Of course not, I live in the US. It’s all a clusterfuck of obfuscation.
Do you ever worry about where the world will be in 20 years? >> No. My peers seem to have that covered.
Have you spent much time contemplating your death? >> Oh, definitely.
Do you know what you want your funeral to be like? >> I know that I want a home vigil (assuming I die when I’m older, after we’ve already bought an actual home). If I die, like, tomorrow or whatever, I guess people can do whatever they want funeral-wise because I’m not interested. Just bury me in a cardboard or pine box in the green section at that one cemetery near us, please. Not in a fucking thousand-dollar metal casket or whatever. Let me decay.
How often do you think dirty thoughts? >> I don’t know, often enough, I guess.
Can mere images turn you on? How about words? >> Images, sure. Words, if they come from Inworld, yeah...
Do you give a good back massage? >> No.
Do you think that feet are disgusting? >> I mean, not inherently. At least they don’t... secrete stuff. (I mean, besides sweat.)
Do you have a girlish scream? >> I don’t recall ever screaming, period.
When was the last time you screamed? >> ^
What is your political affiliation? >> I don’t have one, but I usually vote Democrat.
Are you registered to vote? >> Yeah.
Are you GOING to vote? >> *sigh* Yeah, guess I oughta.
Do you think you would enjoy living in college dorms? >> No. Nooooo no no no no.
Have you ever been to the YMCA? >> Yeah.
If you ditched school, where did you go? >> ---
Have you ever been offered drugs? What, and by who? >> I mean, by friends. Not by complete strangers the way D.A.R.E. insisted. (I mean, that probably does happen too, just not at all with the frequency one would expect...)
Are you afraid to walk places at night if you are alone? >> No.
What's in your school backpack? >> ---
Are you put off by overly social people? >> No. I’m easily exhausted by very extroverted, exuberant people, is all. Doesn’t mean I don’t like them as people.
What do you think of people who are shy? >> I don’t think anything of them, specifically. Some people are just shy. That’s fine.

Gotta be honest: I dislike that "OC Struggles in the RPC" post that occasionally hits my dash.
This one, right here.
In short, because it comes off very, "If you won't RP with my OC you're an elitist dick" even though I'm certain that wasn't the OP's intent.
But, as someone who has been writing the same Harry Potter OC (this one, right here) since 2001 and has played dozens of OCs in MMO settings, D&D, etc...starting from about 1988 on through now, let me just address the post point by point.
1. "That soul crushing feeling when you see 'no OCs' in someone's rules."
That's a you problem.
Nobody is obliged to write with you.
Perhaps that person has had numerous poor experiences with OC players in the past and just wants to avoid it happening entirely.
Perhaps they find it difficult to find ways to interact with OCs.
Perhaps they simply don't care for OCs when there are dozens of canon characters, including characters that are so minor that they might as well be a skeleton outline of a character.
None of those are invalid reasons and none of those are personal insults toward your OC or your writing; grow up and move on.
2. "Constantly having to dumb down your canon"
Look, if you're finding multiple people over multiple fandoms are telling you that your OC is too overpowered--just to cram it all into one word--you do need to stop and consider if they may be right and, if they are, if you care enough to change it.
There have been times I've looked at criticism I've had on Calleo and decided, "Yeah, they're right, that is a bit much" and other times when I've decided that yes, they are correct, but I don't care because I'm having fun as are the people I write with, and times where I've just plain disagreed.
It's also possible that your OC just isn't a good fit for whatever person is telling you that, and that's nobody's fault; not everybody likes the same things.
3. "Adjusting to adapted canons"
Literally nobody is forcing you to do this.
Everyone makes concessions now and again so things mesh with the group, that's part of what roleplaying is: A group activity.
If you feel as though you shouldn't have to adjust to someone else's adapted canon the problem is on your end and you're clearly not a good fit for the other player so maybe look elsewhere.
4. "The amount of your own canon and lore you have to sacrifice to do that."
Again, nobody is forcing you to do so.
This comes up a lot with people whose OCs are related to major canon characters and some of it is a big reason why it's generally recommended to not try and write those outside of established games.
In established games, the other players know this aspect of your character and, since you're part of the game, have implicitly agreed to go along with it.
For independent blogs, it does take longer to find regular RP partners because by having a backstory like that, it can feel like you're trying to force your, let's call it, adapted canon, onto canon and not everyone is going be on board with that idea or, at the very least, are implying that anyone who writes with you has to go along with it.
Again, that is not their fault and it doesn't mean you can't write an OC like that but you do need to be aware that if you choose to have something like that in your character's background, it's going to make it more difficult to find regular canon RP partners and that fact is entirely your fault, not the people who RP canon characters.
Same applies for those times when your OC has multiple rare abilities; the abilities might be canon but, sticking with Harry Potter as it's the main fandom I play in, if your character is a genius at everything, has the Standard Abusive Upbringing, is a metamorphamagus, is an animagus (usually unregistered and mastered by age 12 or so), is part-something-not-human, is a "transfer student to Hogwarts", is a major canon character's until now unknown sibling/cousin/best childhood friend, can cast all sorts of difficult magic before they even hit school because they're just that smart, is an orphan, and can sass Voldemort to his face without consequences--people aren't really going to want to write with you for several reasons.
- It looks like you haven't fleshed the character out well and are just throwing a pot of tropes at the wall to see what sticks.
- Writing with characters like that always feels like a dick measuring contest and if you dare try to hint that the OC might not be better at or just as good at something as a canon character, the most typical response is for the OC's player to get mad and tell you you're being elitist or bullying them.
5. "When you mention wanting to write a canon, people that have never shown any real interest in your OC jump out of the woodwork to encourage you to do it."
Yeah, there's no polite way to say this: If this is what happens to you, it generally means your OC is poorly thought out and can only hit one note (i.e. YOU only show interest in writing certain things; angst, shippy threads, etc...but never want to branch out to anything else) in your writing. That gets boring after awhile.
In short, your OC is probably a little boring and a little two dimensional and the reason your friends are encouraging you to write a canon is because they don't want to tell you that and know that a canon will be more interesting on virtue of you not having to make up all the source material the way you  have to do with an OC.
6. "When you do it, that canon gets more attention than your OC ever did."
See #5. Your OC was probably a kinda dull one trick pony and your friends were trying to be nice about it.
7. "The alternative of that: When your first character was canon and you transition to writing an OC, people suddenly disappear."
See #5. Your OC was probably a kinda dull one trick pony in comparison to the canon character you were writing, and your friends were trying to be nice about it.
8. "Fandom OCs that outgrow their fandoms and muns tha tfeel they have nowhere to put them."
That's lack of creativity on your part, not an "OC struggle".
This character of mine has had fragments of his personalty spawn off into roughly thirty or so different characters across multiple fandoms. On occasion, I've directly ported him into another fandom, just changing the Harry Potter specific things into things that fit the new fandom.
9. "Endlessly worrying if your character is too sue-ish, even after x-amount of years."
Stop caring.
Seriously, stop caring.
Caring about that usually ends up making you kind of less than fun to write with on an OOC level and on an IC level most people take it too far in the other extreme and end up with a character that's about as engaging as wet cardboard.
Not to mention, no matter what you do, there are always going to be people who will think your OC is "too sue-ish" no matter what, simply because they're an OC.
Focus more on people who are interested in your OC and not on the people who don't like your OC (and block them if you have to). You'll have a lot less stress and a lot more fun that way.
If you can't stop caring due to anxiety, get to a therapist and get on meds or--stop roleplaying until you get your house in order. If you get that stressed over roleplaying, it's not worth your mental health to continue; just go write fanfic.
10-13. All the stuff about female OCs being held to higher standards than male OCs.
This, unfortunately, is true. It's extra true if you're a female OC that gets into any sort of relationship, platonic or otherwise, with a canon character.
It's a pretty across all fandoms thing too, and it's definitely unfair.
I know 100% that if Calleo were a female OC, he would not have even a fraction of the interactions and threads that I have with him; people would think he's bitchy, stuck up, and annoying as all hell--and he is, but he's a guy, so it somehow funny and endearing I guess.
I think he’s often bitchy, stuck up, and annoying as all hell and I’ve been writing him for close to 20 years now.
He'd also probably be written off as some kind of slut because I've always written him as being in open relationships and often having multiple open relationships going at one time.
14. "People assuming simple, stupid things"
Yeah, that's not OC specific. Not even close. It's good form to always read someone's about and rules page, even if it's a canon character, because nobody plays even canon characters exactly the same.
15. "Feeling like you have to jump through hoops to keep up with everyone else and keep your character fresh and interesting so people don't lose interest."
Again, this is not an OC specific thing. Canon, unless a series is ongoing, is pretty finite, and anyone writing any character has to keep their character fresh and interesting and not just write variants of the same thing over and over or people will get bored of them as well.
A pretty good litmus test here is to look at it and see if it's just one or two people who lost interest or if it was a whole lot of them.
If it was just one or two people, that sucks, but it happens. We've all been dropped at some point.
If it's a LOT of people, it's time to take a close look at your OC and what you're writing to make sure you haven't just turned into--well, the literary equivalent of wet cardboard.
16. "Canon blogs that shit on OCs--you realize you were OCs too right? What would the original writer of your canon think?"
Well, if it's Anne Rice, she'll probably think to send a cease & desist.
That joke aside, be glad they do; it's a big red flag to avoid them as they're likely overall unpleasant people even if their writing is good. It also saves you from wasting your time trying to interact/write with them.
Remember that part about not focusing on the people who aren't interested in writing with you? Go read it again.
17. "No seriously, it can be so discouraging writing an OC. How many ideas are you killing by snubbing OCs? The future of creative media is in our hands."
Miss me with this emotionally manipulative bullshit.
Nobody is obliged to write with you and nobody is obliged to like your OC.
If a canon blog rejecting your OC is enough to kill your ideas, that's your problem, not the canon blog writer's problem.
If you can't find someone to RP your ideas with you and you really like those ideas, I'd suggest writing fanfic.
If you really want to RP those ideas, you'll either have to keep looking until you find someone who also wants to RP those ideas, or you'll have to be willing to do some compromising to make those ideas work in a way that other players will find interesting.
If your OC always has to be center stage and the best at everything, or you only want to write ship threads, or you only want to do angst, or your OC is always being injured, nearly killed, in emotional distress, etc...all the damn time, that gets boring for everyone else really quickly.
That's a you problem, not an other writers problem.
18. "Has someone stolen my canon?"
Look, if the stuff further up on this list is an issue for you, I guarantee you nobody has stolen your canon.
In general, nobody will steal your canon; there are not infinite numbers of ideas and tropes are very common both in canon canon and for OCs.
Unless someone straight up lifted everything about your character and just changed the name and whatever face claim you're using, there's about a 0 % chance they stole your ideas.
19. "Is my canon too similar to someone else's?"
See the bit in #18 about common tropes; given that, probably.
The bigger question is does it bother you enough to rework your OC? If it doesn't, stop caring.
If it does, get to work reworking your OC.
20. "Do they think I stole their canon?"
Have they said something? Do you have overlapping RP circles? No? Then they probably don't know you exist, let alone think you've stolen from them.
21. "And what do you do when somebody does steal your canon? It can be so hard to prove and it's so easy for it to be dismissed."
If it's hard to prove, it's too generic to have been stolen unless they just did a direct copy paste.
22. "Having your OC written off because of the face claim choice - that face is constantly typecast, nobody takes it seriously, they've been overplayed and ruined."
The only people I've had, 7 years of Tumblr RP, give two fucks about face claims are:
- Control freak admins of organized games that usually fall apart within 6 months due to drama typically caused by the control freak admins. I actually had one game have the admins get angry at me because I wouldn't stop doing cosplay for Calleo's pictures and just pick a celebrity.
Bullet dodged there.
- People who are also just generally unpleasant OOC; if a face claim alone is enough to make someone not want to RP with you (and it's not a case where the person whose face it actually is has been clear about them being uncomfortable with people using their pictures in that manner), that's a red flag that that person, if you somehow still want to write with them after seeing that, will likely be incredibly, bizarrely dramatic in all the wrong ways.
Sure, some of them are fine and they just have a hard time picturing an OC who also looks uncannily like Taylor Swift, but people who have things in their rules about refusing to write with people who use certain icons should be taken as either a red flag or a, "Well, I dodged a bullet here."
Also, in case nobody has told you this: Icons are not necessary for RP. They often add absolutely nothing to the post or thread that isn’t just as easily accomplished by using words. There’s nothing wrong with using icons but, you know, run far, far away from people who require that you use them.
Maybe instead of getting into the mindset that nobody wants to write with your OC because they’re an OC, take a look at your OC, ask people to give you honest and constructive feedback about the character (even if they tell you things you might not want to hear), consider working on your OOC personality as the victim mentality or using emotional manipulation about ~*~*how hard~*~* it is to write an OC to try and guilt people into writing with you is incredibly off putting on every level.
The more someone whines and complains about how nobody wants to write with them, honestly, the less interested I become in writing with them.
You also have to put some effort in, and that includes answering submitted memes or people who write you starters (or like an open starter call from you); if you fail to do that more often than not (and no, ‘low/no muse’ is not an excuse when you use it all the time, especially when you clearly have muse and are responding to whatever Themed Thing--usually angst or shipping--you get but ignore anything else or take ages to reply to anything else), the people sending those things in will assume you’re just not interested in writing with them and will stop trying.
And, bottom line?
If even you can’t sell your OC as being interesting and write off lack of interest from others as Unfairness Toward OCs, why should anyone else be interested?
If you have an OC that’s legitimately interesting, engaging, and not based around generally disliked tropes (across fandoms those are usually related to a canon character, multiple rare abilities, the OC being able to somehow always ignore or overtly go against social norms and suffer exactly zero consequences--or worse--be adored and admired for it by everyone, and Not From Around Here, in that order), and aren’t unpleasant OOC, people will want to write with you.
If you don’t, well, that’s your problem, and no amount of posting about how hard OCs have it will make people interested.

my thoughts have been simmering for a few days and i need to put them down in words SOMEWHERE. though this is very long and very whiny so no one is obligated to read
in regards to wow, my enjoyment of the game has always hinged on creating characters to interact with the world, and weaving stories about them in regards to the events that unfold in canon. this game was my introduction to roleplaying with more than just one person (an old friend of mine and i would make ocs and rp them amongst ourselves for about any and all media we were collectively into, and she actually got me into wow to start). since then i’ve always had to weave character backstories to keep myself interested in a game, any game.
but with wow particularly, after my initial try at rping (which ended up being high school cliques, blood elf edition with a lot of drama and bullshit) i stopped hanging in public circles and just watched from afar. but i also felt i was missing out on fun events and interactions, so every expansion i’d be like “this is it, today i actually roleplay and make friends.” but i never get to that point. i always stop short and there are a few reasons why.
when i look at other rpers, even in a casual setting, i feel like i’m playing catch-up. i joined the game at the tail end of mists of pandaria. so i didn’t have any experience or reputation in the four expansions prior to that. everyone had all of these relationships and stories already built with numerous people and they were always interacting with people they knew. which is natural for people to do, but i always felt awkward strolling around stormwind or some city and wanting to get involved, but all of the people loitering were already engaged in conversations and it felt rude to interrupt them. as time went on, my anxiety kind of grew and grew until i stopped actually marking myself as in-character, because i knew i wasn’t ever going to get up to roleplay. i was just lingering and reading conversations and rp profiles to pass the time, then i’d log off and go to bed.
another part of the problem is that i have no goddamn attention span. i create a character, am super invested in them for a few months, then some new concept comes up and i go “oooh! i want to explore that!” and i create a new character to do so. then i focus on the new oc for a while, spot a new concept, then the cycle repeats. every expansion i’m coming up with new characters to explore very specific concepts and by the time something new comes around i abandon them and move on. this only compounds with the lack of reputation and anxiety at intruding on pre-established stories. because i always wear a new face and no one has time to get to know it before i move on. this is an issue in like, every single one of my interests. i haven’t touched characters or stories in years because i found something New and Fun to work on instead.
the only character i’ve managed to use on more than one occasion for rp in wow wasn’t even originally created for the game. he was a completely separate character that i adjusted to fit into the game. and that’s the only reason he’s held my attention for any span of time. because i can just, pluck him back out and develop him separate if i get bored of the current expansion’s content.
there’s also the matter of i just don’t have the time to cultivate any sort of standing in more than one media anymore. i’m out of the house for 12 hours a day during the week and then i get home, make dinner and spend an hour with family, then two hours max doing whatever for free time and then i go to bed. there’s so little in an mmo you can get done in two hours. leveling new characters is a slog, and by the time they’re max level and can interact with the content i created them for, i’m bored of them and the story has moved on. so this only compounds the envision, create, discard cycle. not to mention that these days i have to pick between any number of activities to dedicate my two hours too. not in the mood for an mmo? play minecraft or draw instead. and then i feel even further behind because i could have run two dungeons in that span of time, but i chose not to and whoops content and community have already moved on. i also feel that if i don’t create content for a character (specifically art), no one is going to be interested in them but i have to grapple with “draw or level” every night and end up getting frustrated.
so every expansion i come up with some new character, hyperfocus on them, and never use them until they eventually fall away to the side. even now, after not having played the game for however many months, i see the new expansion content and go “oh boy! time to create a death knight!” who i’ll painstakingly level and then abandon. if anyone has glanced at my toyhouse folder for wow, there’s over a dozen characters in there and all have been forgotten and unused for however long. and it’s likely none will ever see the light of day again unless they get re-purposed (like aen’ithri, who had so little story work done on her i was able to just pluck her base concept up and move her to dnd without more than two minutes thoughts. that’s how brief my interest in her and her wow story was).
tldr: i have no attention span, no time, and no frame of mind to enjoy a game i so desperately love. wow was my first mmo and i really want to be a part of the community, but i always feel like i’m not good enough or moving too slow. and i’m so tired of it all.

I’m not bored of RPGs
I would prefer to take my own screenshots but Steam has given me a big update queue and getting shots off of the Switch is a different kind of chore. Instead I will be using appropriate pictures of cats I found on shutterstock.com.
Pillars of Eternity 2
Tumblr media
Almost all isometric computer roleplaying games are broken into islands. There is a campaign map operating like a vast sea, and within that sea one visits small places with a clearly marked border. Instanced dungeons where a poor laptop can muster a fireworks display for your heroes.
How refreshing that Pillars 2 leans into that. Islands within islands. Thematically a voyage across the sea, replete with sea shanties. I applaud the structure of this game. It is a delight to discover remote islands that hold illustrated text adventures in addition to the meat and potatoes combat.
And the combat really is meat and potatoes. You get to choose two professions, allowing really dumb combinations like my paladin who had to choose between summoning bats or tanking the front line. The benefit of all this is that you can find ways to entertain yourself if you get bored of all the murdering. I avoided the ship to ship combat as it is a weird mini game that I don’t like. You can largely do without it, and if you make enough allies during the main quest you can get to the final battle free of cannon balls or uninspiring melee.
The main story suffers from trying to have a connection to the first game. I really would have preferred to tackle this adventure without that baggage. When I go off the beaten track the game is a lot of fun. Fortunately the open sea has little in the way of tracks. It is a game weighed down by hubris and experiment but still manages to tread water in a sea of similar titles.
Tangledeep
Tumblr media
This is a mostly classic roguelike. I say mostly because it has some very linear boss fights you’re forced to repeat, and it offsets the lack of a hunger clock by just dumping more monsters into a level. By “dump” I mean they’re just new things there without any logic or tactical threat.
However, Tangledeep has a lot of nonsense you can get up to: You can summon plant monsters. Multiclass into a soul drinking summoner. Plant trees. Keep pets. Visit bonus dungeons. Make food (mostly curry). There’s other stuff too, I just kinda lost track.
I got invested enough to come up with a specific build. One that would summon lots of monsters and teleport around the map with a combination of skills I’d pick up from two of the fighting professions. Eventually I died and I couldn’t imagine playing a different style of character. The new classes I was unlocking weren’t offering new pets or movement skills so I haven’t played since.
I enjoyed my time with Tangledeep a lot. Mining the powers from all the classes was a fun project to play out during the delve. Had I survived I’m sure I would have engaged with all the other features the game has. I want to say you should play the game without permadeath, because the structure doesn’t reward it. I think one should play their first game with permadeath on to get to grips with using skills, then turn it on to start a new game. Picking classes in the right order and taking only the skills you need. The game kind of expects you to do this by offering a tougher dungeon on future play-throughs. Some solid fun to be had here when you figure out what settings you should turn on and off. The developer has been kind enough to offer a lot of them.
Devil May Cry 5
Tumblr media
Okay, it’s not an RPG but it’s really good. A pure expression of joy in videogame form. It dares me into thinking it’s gone too stupid, but then yes, yes I really do need to cut down this boss with two motorcycles, it’s the best tactical option.
I’m too old and slow for these sort of games and yet DMC5 encouraged me instead of frustrating me. From fans of the series I’ve heard it does its forebears credit. One can only hope that its creators have more games like this to share in the future.
Final Fantasy X
Tumblr media
I’ve stopped at the Blitzball tutorial, I do not want to play this mini game. I don’t like any of the characters in this game either. It took The Witcher 3 about eight hours to win me over, which is kind of acceptable in a huge RPG. But I’m not even meeting NPCs that I like.
I’ll have to come back to this one.
Final Fantasy XII
Tumblr media
Constraints do interesting things to games. In FF12 we have what wants to be an open world MMO type of game and it thinks it’s running on a Playstation 2. So the whole world is broken into islands.
Sounds like an isometric CRPG to me. It even leans into that constraint, creating strange geometries to navigate with a pace to encounters that you don’t really see in modern sandbox games. In an open world there must be empty spaces. To create immersion and to allow monsters to chase you for a reasonable distance before giving up. You need boring bits. FF12 removes those boring bits, creating a world that feels like a traditional dungeon on a massive scale.
Then it puts those boring bits right back in. All the way in.
FF12 is a real-time game. You assign commands and your heroes act them out. You can also set your heroes on auto pilot. The game lets you buy more specific commands from shops, allowing you to create an undying death machine out of your party. This starts out really fun. You unlock abilities on your character’s skill-tree-board-thing and continue to tinker with the death ball. But even though you’ve unlocked an ability, you have to first find it in the dungeon world. And some of the ways you find them are bullshit. Be prepared to walk in and out of an area to dice roll a boss fight into appearing (not a bug - that’s what you have to do). Be prepared to navigate a dungeon that has a 42 minute explanation on youtube (and it’s been edited). Be prepared to find Dispelga on route to a boss and only find Dispel after you looked it up on a wiki (it’s in the corner of a really easy dungeon that I already cleared). Unlocking abilities this way sets expectations. I know I’m missing something and I’ve paid to unlock it - I’m committed. As I got further into the game’s list of status effects and party buffs my frustration grew.
The story has a cast of amiable characters struggling against occupation by the Empire. It’s alright. I remember all their names but couldn’t honestly tell you how I got to where I am or what started it. In a game which is largely about exploration it works pretty well as a backdrop.
It’s a very unique game. A hybrid of MMO and isometric RPG made from the JRPG mindset. The modern ports of the game feature fast-forward buttons that apologise for the self-indulgences taken in its original form. It is a decent thirty hours of fun and a further ten hours of not much fun. I certainly recommend it to roleplaying game enthusiasts, but with caveats for completionists.
World of Final Fantasy
Tumblr media
I experienced Pokemon Red on my then-desktop-PC whilst listening to the album Gran Turismo by The Cardigans. I couldn’t stand the high pitched beeps of the menu so I preferred to listen to the latest CD I had. The song Explode is burned into my mind next to stamping on a monster’s head and stuffing it into a ball. It’s not something you need to know, but I thought I’d tell you about it.
The conceit of why you are stuffing classic monsters from Final Fantasy games into balls prisms does not need explaining. Nor does one need to know why the two main characters help form two stacks of three creatures. Who cares why these stacks combine the powers of those within to create a hybrid JRPG avatar.
World of Final Fantasy cares. Oh boy does it care. There’s not a single button on my gamepad this isn’t getting away without two minutes of banter between the characters to explain it. Cutscene after cutscene rolls by. They often come in pairs so I pause and skip ahead just in case. Even after you complete a cutscene the characters lock out the controls and have a jolly good chat about what they’ve just seen. In its defence it lets you skip being waterboarded with the story and run the game at what feels like 1.5x speed. But there’s still a lot of busy work when it comes to skipping cutscenes. There’s loads of them.
I really like the combat. That is, I really like it when I have a monster that does the right colour damage for capturing a new monster. It’s a refreshing take on Pokemon that is utterly wasted on the Final Fantasy franchise, but I guess it needed the brand for this weird game to even exist. If you like the combat you found in Pokemon and want something with more nuance and challenge then you should pick it up and skip those cutscenes. If you need some story to wash it down with and don’t like a shockingly linear campaign map, then perhaps put it off for a while.
7DBL (7 Day Broughlike) Challenge
Tumblr media
I’ve often been accused of making a Broughlike. To make a game that reminds you of Michael Brough’s work: A small grid with a turn based avatar that can cast spells. I’ve often refuted this because I tend to avoid having spells in my games. There’s just never a nice way to do the UI. Us iPad owners are fine, phone owners less so, desktop users get lots of keys to press, and hooray for gamepads if they aren’t awful for any type of menu.
Those more patient than I have stepped up to the challenge. Echoing the 7 Day Roguelike Challenge (7DRL, of which I am a yearly participant) developers across the globe attempted to make a small grid with a turn based avatar that cast spells. In 7 days. They also scheduled this challenge right before the gaming event called E3. Much like the 7DRL always gets scheduled before the gaming event called GDC. We can’t have a game jam making niche games and let reporters have time to talk about it. That wouldn’t be the done thing.
The results are above average. I say this coming from the 7DRL which is generally average, equal parts good and bad. The games produced in this jam are mostly good. There’s a few which clearly aren’t finished, and yet they show a great deal of promise. Even Brough himself submitted a game, one which is quite accessible and fun. Highlights for me included controlling a rather awkward squid that had to shoot in order to turn and a one dimensional roguelike that adds depth by throwing your weapons.
I hope they do it again next year.
My RPGs
Tumblr media
I released my roguelite runner Bump 2 for the small audience that appreciates it. It’s one of those games that really appeals to a handful of people, and not to others in the slightest. In homage to my own select tastes and to unjinx my collection of unfinished projects, I resolved to make Bump 2 into its best form before walking away from it. And so I did.
I’m currently working on Kobold Dungeon Tester. This is my 4th (5th if you count Roomba Quest) interactive text project. I twice tried to write a novel in my youth and this project feel like a penance for my failures. Normally I would move on, satisfied the base idea works, like a puzzle, or a high score. A few kind words have convinced me that this one is different - it’s a story, it needs an ending. I shall try to finish it as best as I can.

jw, where have you been? hope you are okay and all
Hi nonny! I’m actually doing fine. I understand that it’s confusing that I haven’t been posting after I recently said that “I’m back.” In all honesty, I have been in a rut with simblr for a long time now. It’s not that I don’t enjoy sims or that I don’t want to post, but it’s because the more I see all the bullshit that goes around in this community and the more I see people being attacked for having their own creative stories, is tiring. It makes me not even want to post. I personally have not been targeted with hate (thank god) but even still seeing it happening to others, upsets me. I have been terrified to do the story that I’ve wanted to put out because of the pure fact of people attacking me for it. For example, my gen 6 sim (Pepper) had a WHOLE story planned out. I had literally written down everything that I wanted to do with her, I had scripts, I even had scenes written down so I could find poses/props/etc. I was excited that I finally put something together that I loved and I put passion into. Why didn’t I do the story I wanted? I was terrified to do it. Pepper’s story was originally going to be a story that had 18+ content and dealt with a lot of real life issues. Her story was not “child friendly.” The reason I was scared to do it is because of the amount of people I see getting attacked for their stories not being PG-13 EVEN THOUGH THEY HAVE NSFW WARNINGS AND TAG THINGS PROPERLY. I personally like my stories to deal with real life issues. I like having drama in my stories and I like there to be emotion in them. Out of pure fear of people getting after me for my story, I deleted it and ended up not doing it at all even though I planned to tag everything appropriately. I completely winged generation 6 and I hated every second of it, which is why with Blossom I stuck with game-play. Honestly, I haven’t really enjoyed anything that I’ve put out thus far. It’s all winged, dumbed down and something that I have not had any passion for doing. I do not have thick skin, so why throw myself into a spot where I know for a fact I will be eaten alive? I truly believe because of that fact that I have been “playing safe”, is the only reason why I don’t get these ridiculous anons. I feel for those who are brave enough to put their passion out there, yet get cyber bullied because of it.
TL;DR - I am sick of people not being “allowed” to have their own creative minds and people being attacked for simply doing something different or having a different opinion. I am sick of people attacking others on this site for simply having adult content when they are in fact, adults. I am sick of being scared to put out the REAL story/content that I have wanted to do, but haven’t because of fact that people cannot handle someone doing something that isn’t to their liking. And last, but not least, I am sick that a game as simple as The Sims is surrounded with the most stupid drama and toxicity I have EVER seen in every game I’ve played in my entire life. I play MOBAs, FPS, MMOs, yet this is the absolute worst I have ever seen in ANY community I’ve ever been a part of.
PS // I’m sorry for ranting, but this is truly how I have felt and this is the reason behind me not being consistent. Not going to lie, I’ve been scared to even give the real reason why. But since the people who have followed me thus far have been amazing, you guys deserve the honest answer as to why I haven’t been being active.

I think this about sums up f2p feelings concerning Varnimyr and the new raid.
Now, just to write an essay about it:
Varnimyr itself was a rather steep incline in difficulty.  My +10 ass can’t even do a dungeon with solo buff and GoD buff in under 15 minutes.
“Just get good.”
I know how to play my character, I’ve been playing them for years now, but I’ll address this.
When you’re f2p and the company is actively discouraging you from doing their content, there’s no way to improve.  You can’t get the Void Weapon because, to my knowledge, it’s still RNG based even when the bar is at 100%.  Even if you do manage to get Void or god forbid enhance your Heroic or Henir weapon to +10/+11, you can’t get the Mystic Stones to improve your weapon because they seem about as rare as a Force Skill in my experience and, once again, Varnimyr’s difficulty is complete bullshit.  You can’t get the perfect Elrianode set or even a set that’s just good enough because it’s horribly RNG based.  You can’t upgrade to +8 because, again, it’s horribly RNG based and you’re more likely to reset back to +0 than you are to get +8.  Not to mention +8 isn’t enough for any of this.  As I mentioned before, even my +10 doesn’t feel like it’s enough to do damage in Varnimyr.  So I don’t know how the fuck a f2p player who hasn’t made this game their entire life is supposed to be good enough to clear Varnimyr content.
As I’ve said many times during the Elrianode fiasco, STORY CONTENT NEEDS TO BE ACCESSIBLE TO THE CASUAL PLAYER.  If story content isn’t accessible to a casual and/or f2p player, there’s a huge fucking problem.  Casual players (and probably a good amount of f2p players too) primarily play games for the story because they like the characters or the plot interests them.  When they can’t even clear story content in a reasonable amount of time or simply can’t access it, they’re going to quit.  A MMO can’t survive off of whales alone, they need f2p and casual players to help spread word about the game so the company can potentially get players who are more inclined to pay.  By doing everything in their power to shoo away f2p & casual players, they’re tossing away any future the game has because the people they’ve driven away are only going to tell others to never touch the game.
KoG has been trying to reel people back in as well with the various quality of life changes.  However, with how they run the PVE side of things, people aren’t going to come back.  They’ve been gone awhile and their gear’s no longer the meta (and KoG absolutely adores forcing players to change their play style every month or so).  What returning player is going to want to endlessly grind just to be good enough for KoG’s current standard?  For example, skill stacking is out and all skill damage is in, but KoG didn’t switch stacking gear to this new flavor of their’s.  Now this wouldn’t be too bad if skill stacking counted towards your CP.  By not counting skill stacking towards CP players are forced to grind for this shiny new thing when RNG is already atrocious absolutely discourages the player.  A returning player would see this and just leave again.  Heck, a casual player would see this and have a good chance of just quitting simply because they don’t have the time and/or the in-game resources to deal with KoG’s bs RNG again.
Let’s just... talk about the upcoming raid now.  The CP requirement for two parts of it is 250k while the third part requires 300k.  Who the fuck can reach 300k CP besides players with a +11/+12?  At least you stand a chance at reaching 250k with a +9 or +10, but it’s gonna take a lot of time and resources.  +9 still isn’t that accessible to f2p and casual players.  So the raid is just another way for the whales to get stronger.  Ain’t that just lovely?
Since the raid is in the Varnimyr dungeon select screen to my knowledge, I worry that it’s going to have story quests attached to it for some god forsaken reason.  I really wouldn’t put it past KoG either.  Considering that you can’t even access any of these dungeons without 250k CP... f2p and casual players wouldn’t be able to complete those potential quests.  This doesn’t even mention how a lot of players in NA/INT simply don’t have that kind of CP.  KoG certainly won’t be adjusting the CP requirement to be closer to the average of each individual server.
Yes, sure, a raid is “end-game” content which means it should be difficult to some degree, but locking it behind a gear wall?  Not even Perkisas had that kind of restriction.  Besides gear =/= a person’s skill with their character.  Raids should be accessible to the overall player base and the difficulty should be adjusted depending on the average CP and level of the team.  This way no one’s left out and everyone can get rewards.  But nope this makes too much logical sense so they can’t do it.

I thought I could handle the recordings. I never realized how visceral the reaction I'd get was, just from hearing stories of emotional abuse and manipulation from other victims. I'm in tears for them. I have nothing but empathy and love for these people, and I stand by them but hearing their accounts is just so hard hitting. I'm in tears because I know the exact feeling of being in their shoes. It disgusts me that so many others had experienced this, and that he's neither the first nor the last.
The more I heard about their stories as I clicked to listen to each one, the more I realize how precisely my old situation fits the same pattern. In my case it did not happen on FFXIV and the abuser in question was a completely different person.
I actually used this game to escape my previous MMO.
I don't know if it's appropriate for me to speak up about the abuse I experienced here, or in this situation, if it takes the spotlight away from the here-and-now of it all, but if anything it just reiterates how common it is and how easy it is to miss. So, so easy to miss.
Did you guys know I used to be a healer main? I loved playing support, and I could never bring myself to tank or DPS. I liked helping my friends and working with them.
Did you guys know I used to be wholly content doing casual stuff? I didn't care about endgame, and clearing the latest content. I just wanted to hang out with friends, doing silly things, making a whole army of alts to try new things and classes with. I liked to explore and have fun at whatever pace I wanted and I didn't fucking care if anyone thought it was lame.
But then I met him.
I'd seen Q* around before. He was real life friends with P, someone I played with on occasion, but I had no real interactions with him.
At least not until Q and that friend had a fight, and pretty much left him with nothing. He played the game casually, and ended up borrowing much of P's things. Now that they weren't on speaking terms, he had nothing. I wasn't the richest player or anything, but a friend (who quit playing shortly after) and I offered to give him some in-game money to start off fresh.
Eventually, I saw him around more and more often, and I started to play with him. I invited him to communities I had been a part of, including a very casual weekly group raid group. It was very much less savage and more like extreme primals in terms of difficulty. So it wasn't anything crazy, really.
When we weren't doing that, we were farming and raking in cash for glamour. I thought it was nice because I knew that being P's friend meant he was of a higher skill level than I was. I trusted his opinion and followed his lead basically. Not only that, I really connected with him in a way I hadn't connected with other people. Spending time with him was a lot of fun, and we'd be on Skype for literal hours.
It was the same story. Very charismatic, somewhat flirtatious guy. It was all for fun until he started sounding serious and I found myself very into it even with all the red flags and gut feelings. When I confronted him about the nature of our relationship it moved to us becoming a couple.
But don't tell anyone.
It was a secret.
The same story.
I should've figured it out because a lot of times it felt like he was talking at me instead of to me. I couldn't put my finger on it at the time, but that's what it was. Consent was a line he would try to push. He would switch from an absolute sweetheart to using disappointment and frustration against me to get what he wanted. He never raised his voice, but he was excellent at making me feel like shit.
If I didn't play well enough. Because "this is so simple". Or if I didn't know where certain items were stored. Even knowing I have problems with my memory. If it turned out he had it the whole time, he’d laugh it off. If it was with me, he’d be so so disappointed and upset and tell me I’m careless.
Q wanted another group to raid with. I get it. He wants to do more, because that's just his skill level. I was in a very casual guild, but they looked up to me as a mother figure, partly because of my age compared to everyone else's, partly because of the character I RPed. I knew I could convince them to play, and it would make him happy.
They were all new, so they weren't like the regular group. But that just made them so malleable for him.
I became stricter and nitpicky towards people who treated me like I was the group mom. I kept the same tone but there was an underlying annoyance. Why couldn't they be as good? Some things are so simple. I started to echo what Q told me. Because if they failed, to Q, I'd failed.
Praises became so hard to come by. Even when I singlehandedly shortlist and fix our raiding roster, when I make literal spreadsheets for schedules and attendance and for the item directory just so I don't forget and I keep things perfect and convenient for him, just so he wouldn't be upset or disappointed. And he would top it off by being sweet and make up for two weeks worth of not spending time with me. He treated me like a retainer. Sometimes worse. I was there to accompany him to dungeons. As far as he was concerned, that was probably all I was good for.
Because when I'd asked to spend time talking, and not playing, I'd just get told that I was suffocating him. Like I was demanding more time, and what we had wasn't enough.
I organized every raid we had, I was raid leader, I called the shots, I pushed a group of casual players into helping me avoid feeling like shit by doing well enough. When it was my fault, I'd be blamed. Even when it wasn't, I'd be blamed. There were times when I had to fill a role we were missing. It couldn't be helped. Not everyone had every class. All Q had to do was show up and do the easiest fucking class. If we'd wipe, he'd ask me why I wasn't on healer. But somehow when I play healer he'd find all the ways to tell me what I was doing wrong. I didn't feel dependable. I always felt like I fell short and I wasn't good enough.
But I had to reassure everyone, I had to remind everyone. Cast this buff when X happens. Use this element for better DPS. I had to keep it all together until he shows up. Even when we'd reached one of the deepest parts of the dungeon we'd never seen before, and I was happy and excited for them, he wasn't. He was just disappointed we didn't clear.
So I became disappointed too.
Somehow, I had hoped it was the stress of school and it would pass. And Q will go back the the way he used to be when he and I first met. It was stupid but it was some sort of blind faith I latched onto. That somehow if I'd endured and if I were the bigger person, he would wake the fuck up. Obviously that wasn't true at all.
It got to the point where I really was just his retainer. Hold this. Go here. Go there. Why are you not producing the results I want? Affection was a reward, or something to quell me when I was upset and not a staple expression. I'd drawn a lot for him, but I'd hardly get a response. When I was kidding around and having fun making silly voices, all he said was "What is that voice? I'm just gonna mute you." And actually did. He was very pushy when it came to intimate stuff, asked for pictures and pictures and all that but showed me maybe two shit quality photos of himself and a 5 minute skype video call.
I could fucking solo heal 11 people and he wouldn't be impressed. He would nitpick me and ask why I hadn't used the right buff at the right time. Because healing is so easy. I would spend 4 hours straight doing some super menial stuff that would get an open-world boss into spawning mobs that you could farm. When I tell him I'd finally accomplished it, he'd check hours later when he wakes up to say "it isn't there anymore" and nothing else. I'd have to hold on but once he's salty he can rage quit at any point he wants.
I would be praised by other people, and I'd have fun without anyone pointing out how poorly I do or what I'm missing. The disparity was so evident but I kept lying to myself.
I gifted him an official comic of one of "our" favorite series via mail. He never thanked me. He complained about how inconvenient it was that HE missed the delivery and now HE has to go to the post office to pick it up.
I never got to read it.
After half a year of enduring this, I'd confided what I'd experienced with my guild, it came to light that he had been abusing them too. I'd realized we'd effectively converted my poor, fun-loving casual guild of friends into a farming mill for profit.
We farmed not for fun, but for profit. It was awful. Some of my friends still never want to set foot in that game again. It's been 4 years since then.
That's when I'd worked up the courage to break it off. Not for myself. It was kinda pathetic that what woke me up wasn't the need to fight for myself, but because he had hurt my friends. The ones who trusted me to guide them. People I'd hurt myself, by pushing them beyond what they really wanted via peer pressure.
Even when I broke it off it didn't feel satisfactory. It just felt like he didn't care. He went, "ah yeah, it's difficult." I mean that response makes sense considering at some point he told me I wasn’t his real girlfriend until I had sex with him lol.
And that was it. He gave back my stuff in game but lol wait remember the part where he knew I had memory problems? The fucker stole some gear from me and took advantage of that. Burn in hell, Q.
I lied about the reasons why I no longer wanted a relationship and made it seem simple, and I couldn't call him out. I didn't want to upset him. I was afraid of the dirt he had on me. I was afraid of what he'd say to me. Part of me is still afraid he has some of these things on me, years and years after it had happened. I never told anyone the full story really.
I moved on to FF at this point and it was a fresh start, with another friend inviting me to play. No one to tell me what was wrong.
But it sticks to you. The bullshit people like Q and Oldbear do to get what they want. If I said that I raid ONLY because I find it fun (and I do find it fun), it wouldn't be wholly truthful.
There's a part of me that still hears his sleazy voice telling me I'm not good enough. What I'm doing is easy. Support is easy.
I wanted to stop supporting and do things on my own ability. So I switched to DPS. I kept pushing the boundaries of my comfort zone to shut the voice up. I am good enough, and I can raid. I'm afraid to try new classes because of that fear of failure he'd inflicted on me.
I've never gone to a therapist because of the costs and the general stigma in the country, so I don't know how deep this has settled within me. But it's enough that I carry that elitist voice in the back of my head telling me I have to do more, more, more and that I'm not good enough.
Sometimes I’m in denial it was abuse and I probably just had a bad relationship with poor choices ;;;; Like I said, he never outright yelled at me, and he never swore at me or called me names, so I did not think it was abusive. But he gaslit me and used my emotional attachment as leverage whenever he could, would put me down but get away scot-free for things he’d do.
Anyway tl;dr emotional abuse is fucked up and downright diabolical and disgusting and victims suffer some repercussions long after they've moved on and fixed their lives, and now several of these women have had the chance to speak out and name their abuser we must give them that closure and draw attention to this very real and heartbreakingly commonplace issue.

Do Not Play BnS
Blade and Soul is an action MMO (no, really, it is - the combat is great) from NCSoft, best known for stabbing City of Heroes/Villains in the back and hiding the body under a bridge.  I'm still bitter.
But I'm even more bitter about how my experiment with Blade and Soul ended.  (It ended badly, obviously.)  I really enjoy playing this game.  The story is fun, the music is fantastic, the combat is glorious.  So why am I going to delete this game and why am I recommending that you pass on it?
The players.
The playerbase of BnS is, for the most part, a deeply entrenched group that is actively seeking to deter new players from participating.  The game encourages this, with events that punish new players (for example: PvP for Valentine's Day, against people of all level ranges, in an area required for story progression).  The only way to get acceptance is to either a) be in Korea or b) pay to cover up your inexperience.  All things are forgiven to whales!  Not a whale?
Then you probably shouldn't play.  You think I'm joking, don't you?
Looking to learn the game?  That's great!  Just be willing to put up with crushing failure - unless you have fantastic ping and never make any errors.  Even then, you still have to put up with a clan full of exclusionary ***** who will forever let you know that you will never be as good as the people who have been here since Day 1.  Unless you buy stuff, then you're okay.  Some games are pay to win, and of course BnS is one of them, but more than that, it is pay to not suck.  Of course, you could pour hundreds of hours into farming gold so you can buy Ncoin at a crippling exchange rate so you can buy things from the cash shop.
Or you could play any other game.  And that's what I suggest you do.
You will not be able to progress past the story without a clan.  Clans hate newcomers and treat them like dirt for not knowing all the mechanics beforehand.  Looking up the mechanics requires knowing that a) the NA version names are different from every other region (what the hell is Skybreak Spire?) b) most guides use abbreviations of the KR names translated to English (Skybreak Spire is Black Tower, commonly called BT).  And that's just a sample of the asshattery a new player who wants to do endgame content has to navigate.  We haven't even gotten to the special, special brand of interpersonal clan drama you can expect from BnS!
And on top of all that, the NA client is an extremely poorly optimized piece of ... software (and oh do I use that term loosely).  It comes with 'anti cheat' software but as far as I can tell, all it does is cause even more lag.  XIGNCODE.  It's bad.  No one likes it, except the people who get paid to bundle it with their game.
The sad part is, while I had a clan to play with, I could kind of look past all the flaws (though I noted them) and I was willing to suffer through the things that annoyed me (I even spent some money on it!) but the second the drama hit me and people started sneering about how awful I was for being poor and therefore bad at the game (I was doing fine, I thought, but apparently I was just too poor and stupid to notice how terrible I really was) all the fun left BnS like air from a balloon.  It went from a cool martial arts MMO with neat graphics to a miserable soul sucking experience where I seriously questioned why I was wasting time logging in.  What good was it to work on upgrading my gear when no one was ever going to have me in a raid ever again?  When I never wanted to be in a raid again?  (Disclaimer: I run raids in many other MMOs.  Except GW2, I don’t bother there, I’m just lazy.  I’ve dealt with obscure mechanics, that’s not the problem.  Poorly explained mechanics with shitty game optimization that prioritizes boob jiggle over attacks connecting and in fact processes enemy response BEFORE player input is registered is the complete bullshit problem.  There are classes that are utterly dependent on animation canceling to work.  Macros are expected.  It’s bullshit.  Complete bullshit.)
Yes, yes, I could have swallowed my pride (or the clan leader's dick) and just ignored the bullshit and continued playing so I could experience more... of the same endgame raids?  But why?  I liked my clan name more than I liked the people in it, at that point.  I knew the raids well enough to do them with strangers, but why?  So I could get new gear to qualify for the next raid that I've never done before and would have to do with total strangers who wouldn't explain anything?  I'd be right back at square one, teaching myself and saving money to buy more gear so I could... run with people who hate me because I am a clueless noob.
There are many definitions of fun, and that one comes right after the one where I take a drill to my nuts.  Honestly, once you get done with the main story of BnS, there is no reason to play the game.
Buying a level 50 to skip the main story just gets you to that point faster.

Monk Life
play a lot of FFXIV. It’s a great game, great writing, etc.
This is me as a monk:
Tumblr media
Also as a samurai, and every crafting class. Don’t ask about the name, I’ve been using that for D&D and MMOs and shit since 1989.
My minion is indeed a wind-up Sadu. Why? Because of this:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=LXZhoXvkLgo
I mean, holy shit, why wouldn’t you want to hang with Sadu after that?
And Y’shtola, and Alisaie. Like those are basically his favorite three people in the game. Y’shtola’s response to the shoes was to just shake her head because at this point, in my headcanon, she’s so used to him doing shit like that, she doesn’t even blink. Although the Murderous Moogle Mogfists glamour did get a raised eyebrow.
Alisaie actually says things like “Really? The sarong and the glamour that leaves burning leaves behind you wasn’t enough, you needed PINK SNEAKERS?” The Mogfists made her consider that maybe Thancred’s drinking problem wasn’t such a bad idea after all. I mean, a 9′ tall Roe with a multicolored mohawk and now his gloves look like he’s strapped a Moogle to each hand as some weird kind of boxing glove...
Sadu has decided he’s her big brother, who never tells her no, never judges her, is always down to fight spar, and will happily go on whatever adventure she wants, even though he is very annoying at “accidentally” playing living wall between her and the entire towns full of people she challenges to fight...before she gets drunk.
There’s no real amorous tension between him and any of them, because they’re all his besties, in the same way 12 year olds are besties. They go on adventures, get in trouble, and he inevitably leaves the bar with one over each shoulder and Alisaie under one arm, because he doesn’t drink and they all think of “Drink Eorzea Dry” as a challenge, not a weird Lala thing to get you to consume overpriced shitty alcohol.
They are his peeps, right? Someone once insisted he was trying to get horizontal with one of them, and all four of them almost laughed themselves into a coma. It’s not that he doesn’t think they all aren’t attractive, because he does. They do think he’s cute, in a very large, very goofy way. But it ain’t like that. Also, except for Sadu, they’ve all set him up on dates, and he’s done the same for them. Well, he’s tried to. He’s a bit clumsy though which lead to one Lala thinking he was...procuring for them. That was funny once ‘Shtola stopped whacking him in the head with her stick.
Their attempts to set him up fail for other reasons. They’re very protective of their big goofy buddy, and there are not a lot of women out there who pass the test. Sadu is especially overprotective of him. What has them all very worried is Fordola. Because every time they’re in the same room, her right eye keeps glowing at him. Fortunately, unless she literally bonks him over the head and tell him exactly what she wants, he will never figure it out. Also, there’s a small chance that Fordola wants in on the group for the friendship more than anything else.
No one has asked Fordola. For her part, she thinks he’s very cute and has more than a mild interest in the underside of the sarong, but he’s also one of the few people who will visit her in prison, bring good food, hang out and tell her stories. He doesn’t pity her, he doesn’t fear her (I mean, he doesn’t fear anything, not really), he thinks she got caught up in some fucked-up Garlean bullshit, and really who hasn’t? He also knows how fucked up life with the Echo is, so being around someone who gets it is helpful for him. He’s the only person she can feel calm around.
Lyse would be one of the crew, but she’s busy running Ala Mhigo. He still makes sure to come by regularly so they can spar. Her advisors really love him for that. Some of them cheer when he comes by.
He’s their big doofy buddy who is always down and never makes them think he is playing some long game to get in the secret garden. He’s put them all to bed and sat next to those beds making sure the puke went in the proper direction so many times they’ve lost count. Y’shtola regularly changes in front of him, other than the first time, he’s never had a problem keeping his eyes from wandering inappropriately. The first time she did it, he did actually turn away so she’d have some privacy, but she laughed at him and told him not to.
“You do indeed have a shapely backside (Roe have ass for DAYS), but it’s a bit awkward to talk to. I’ve no concerns about you being inappropriate, so please, let us not pretend you’ve not undressed me when I’m passed out covered in whatever it was Sadu was drinking.” (Sadu goes from sober to puking faster than anyone would expect. The worst part is, it doesn’t stop her. She views it as convenient, since now she has room for more. Sadu is very extra.)
Alisaie barely gets undressed in front of herself. They’ve agreed to just pretend she magically pajama’d herself after a night on the towns.
Sadu doesn’t care who sees her in any state. Then again, the last time someone said something inappropriate because she had gotten nekkid drunk, it took a water sprite to put out the fire she lit on his ass. Did I meantion Sadu is VERY extra? Because she is.
It’s probably a good thing monks don’t actually need a lot of money as a rule, and that he’s quite good with the investing, he spends a lot of gil on “let’s just take this large pile of shiny coins and forget about those pesky authorities” discussions.
There’s no reason a Lominsan Roe, a couple of Sharlyan scholars and a steppe berserker should be the bestest frens ever, but they are, and none of them would trade any of it for the world.
(He and Krile get along famously as well, but she’s older enough than he is, that she’s more of his big sister, even though she barely comes up to his knees. The other three have agreed that watching him kneel in front of her so she only has to stand on a chair when she needs to lecture him is terribly cute.)
My headcanon.

On Final Fantasy XIII
I have to admit that I went into this game expecting to be disappointed. While I have intended for a while now to play through every non-MMO Final Fantasy game, at the time I started playing it I had only completed the original and FFII, and was around halfway through FFIII. The only reason I decided to play it now was availability; my brother had a copy, so I didn’t need to purchase it for myself.
I hadn’t really heard much about the game other than “It’s bad” and “It’s Final Hallway XIII lol”. And while there is certainly an argument to be made that FFXIII is objectively a bad game, and the “hallway” criticism (that most of the game’s areas are linear, with barely any deviation in route) is valid, I absolutely loved this game. I would not recommended it to anyone who isn’t determined to play it through, for reasons I’ll elaborate on later, but this is currently my favourite Final Fantasy game, beating out the original, II, III, and now IV (which I am at the final dungeon of as of this writing).
I’ll address the criticisms first. Beginning with the “hallway” criticism. Yes, of the game’s 13 chapters, only the area in chapter 11 (which can be revisited during chapter 13) offers any sort of exploration. It’s also where the game’s version of side quests are introduced. Note that although it’s labeled as chapter 11, almost two thirds of the game take place in this open area. I understand that this isn’t worth ten chapters of linearity to some people, but I actually found the linearity of the game to be quite enjoyable. Some people make the argument that the linearity is necessary for story purposes, as our six protagonists are fugitives from their government, and don’t have the time to be running around looking for twenty bear asses with the army breathing down their necks. This is a valid defense, but I have a much simpler one.
Of all the Final Fantasy games I’ve played, Final Fantasy XIII was the first and thus far only one where I didn’t need an internet walkthrough to figure out where the fuck I was supposed to fucking GO.
Maybe it’s because I’ve only played NES and SNES-era Final Fantasy games for comparison, but FFXII was so much more enjoyable simply because I didn’t need to constantly be checking a mile-long GameFAQs walkthough every twenty minutes or so, searching for place names or proper nouns just for some hint of where I needed to be. Now, this changed when I started doing the aforementioned side quests, if only because there’s no indication on the in-game map where the questgivers are unless the quest is active, but until that point I had no need for cross-checking a walkthrough. Hopefully this will get better when I finally get through the 16-bit era, but until then the linearity that I’ve heard so many people complain about is one of Final Fantasy XIII’s biggest draws for me. The linearity made the game more fun.
As mentioned earlier, the game only really opens up in chapter 11, which is where the majority of the game’s runtime is. This is because chapters 1 through 9, and most of 10, are the game’s tutorial.
These segments are roughly 20 hours long.
Final Fantasy XIII has a 20-hour-long tutorial. There’s really no way to spin that as a positive. The game uses that time to its advantage, introducing five of the six protagonists from the get-go and developing them in a way that I quite enjoyed, and will say more on later. The fact of the matter is, though, that 20 hours is a ridiculous time to spend teaching the player how to use your combat system. I’m not sure if it makes it better or worse that it does legitimately take 20 hours to master Final Fantasy XIII’s version of the Active Time Battle system.
Again, full disclosure, I wound up loving the combat system in FFXIII. But I didn’t understand how it worked until around chapter five. To explain, you have a party of at most three characters. You control one character directly, and the other two are controlled by the game’s AI, which takes its cues from you. Each character has a combination of three of six possible roles. You create what the game calls “paradigms”, six sets of any three of the available roles that you can freely switch between during combat. This allows for a party in trouble to switch on the fly from offensive classes to (for example) a tank and two healers. Once you get a handle on it, it’s very intuitive. The problem is, of course, how long it takes to get a handle on it. Twenty hours is still ridiculous.
Ultimately, a video game succeeds or fails on its gameplay. You can have the most gorgeous backgrounds, beautiful music, and memorable characters, but if the game is hard to play, all that falls by the wayside. Looking at you, Skyward Sword. But that’s a discussion for another time.
I’m sure the twenty-hour long tutorial turned people off of FFXIII when it first came out. I do agree that it’s ridiculous, and it’s most of the reason why I wouldn’t recommend the game to anyone who wanted something just to pick up and play. My brother, who you’ll remember is the one who actually owns the copy I played, never actually finished the game, nor has any desire to. I likely would have put it down myself if I hadn’t resolved myself to playing it all the way through. I’m glad I did. But if you aren’t approaching it with that mindset, I wouldn’t expect you to enjoy it.
Speaking of enjoying things, let’s move on to what I actually liked about this game, which is the story and characters. I don’t know how it stacks up against more contemporary Final Fantasy games, but I personally was glad to not be playing yet another Dungeons and Dragons campaign. The story is mostly driven by its characters.
Claire “Lightning” Farron is the face of Final Fantasy XIII, and the only character I knew about heading in. What I knew, or rather had heard, was that her character was “Cloud Strife but as a woman.” I’ll be the first to admit that, since I haven’t played Final Fantasy VII yet, I don’t know how firsthand how true this assessment is. However, from what I’ve been able to gather from pop-cultural osmosis, this is almost completely untrue. Lightning was designed with “female Cloud” in mind, but for the most part this is where the similarities end.
Lightning is essentially the single parent of her little sister Serah, and is overprotective of her to a fault.  This has caused an estrangement between the two of them, exacerbated by Lightning’s disapproval of Serah’s fiancé, who will be discussed when we get to him. When Serah is cursed by what are essentially minor gods in this setting with a task that will either transform her into a mindless monster if she fails or put her in stasis potentially forever if she succeeds, Lighting sets out on a quest to rescue her from her fate, to the extent of defying her own gods-given task, and heaven help anyone who gets in her way.
One of the weaknesses of Final Fantasy XIII, in my opinion, is that the game’s engine doesn’t give its characters the most expressive of faces. Lightning is a very reserved person, but you are able to figure out how she’s feeling from careful consideration and inference based on what she says versus what she’s been through. This could be made much easier if the engine was capable of rendering microexpressions. I do kind of hope FFXIII will get a high-definition rerelease, if only so that this sort of thing could be added.
Lightning’s arc in this game (it continues slightly in Final Fantasy XII-2, and completes in Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII) involves her learning that even if Serah is getting married, it doesn’t mean she’s going to be alone in the world. She forges friendships that will last literal lifetimes with her fellow companions, one of whom is her future brother-in-law she despises so much.
Time to talk about him. Snow Villiers is a dumbass. A moron. An idiot. An airhead.
          I love him so much.
I didn’t always. I actually started out hating him just as much as Lightning did. Snow wants to be a hero. Sorry, make that a Hero™. He’s the leader of a citizen’s militia in his and the Farron sisters’ hometown, and he believes that a true hero never needs a plan, because of the laws of narrative causality or some such bullshit. Naturally his arc involves him realizing that that’s a really, REALLY stupid way to live your life. It’s actually better than I’m making it sound: he goes through a gradual realization that his philosophy is hindering others more than helping them, and goes through some low points before he learns how to temper his enthusiasm with careful planning and coordination. Part of this is coming to the conclusion that he can still be heroic, even if he (or anyone, really) can’t live up to the platonic ideal of heroism he has constructed for himself. I began by hating him, by the end of FFXIII I loved hating him, and by the end of the trilogy I actually genuinely grew to love him. But that’s a story for another time. Snow’s motivation is actually the same as Lightning’s: to rescue Serah Farron from her fate, regardless of who or what gets in the way.
One of the people hurt by Snow’s general idiocy is another of our protagonists: a young boy of fourteen named Hope Estheim, whose mother volunteers to fight alongside Snow to defend her son. Her death isn’t COMPLETELY Snow’s fault, but both Snow and Hope act as if it is. It doesn’t help that she shares a name, Nora, with Snow’s militia. (No Obligations, Rules, or Authority. No, seriously.) Hope’s initial motivation is revenge against Snow. To the point of murder. Naturally this doesn’t play out, but Hope’s interactions with Lightning and Snow are a guiding factor in their own arcs, giving Lightning the familiar ground of a big-sister role as she teaches him how to survive on the run, and showing Snow that heroism is still possible even if you don’t match Snow’s ideal. (To elaborate, when given the opportunity to take revenge for his mother, Hope not only can’t go through with it, but shortly after that actually defends an unconscious Snow after the two survive a several-story fall.)
Hope comes into his own after reuniting with his father, whom he was afraid would shun him both for not being able to save his mother, and for becoming one of the gods-cursed beings that the general public are being made to fear. Bartholomew Estheim not only reassures him that he would never feel that way about his own son, but gives Hope the confidence he needs to stand up and take action of his own accord, rather than reacting to what’s happening to him as he had been doing. Hope’s a good kid.
To contrast, Sazh Katzroy is a good father. He’s the oldest member of the main cast, old enough to have a young son, Dajh. Dajh is cursed in a similar way to Serah, and Sazh’s journey is about trying to get him back from the government, who in a cruel twist are using the powers the curse gave him to hunt our protagonists. Sazh is effectively the team dad, and honestly his arc can be summed up with a single GIF of Marlin from Finding Nemo. “Have you seen my son?!”
Kidding aside, what Sazh has to go through are probably the most realistically terrifying events of the game. He’s a single father whose preschool-aged son is not just missing, but has been taken from him. And like everyone else under the curse, Dajh is on a ticking clock to decide which fate worse than death awaits him. There’s actual, realistic fear there, and I did really care about seeing the two reunited.
Sazh also got the chance to act as a surrogate father to Oerba Dia Vanille, the fifth and final character who’s introduced from the get-go. For initially unexplained reasons, she’s the only member of the main cast (that we’ve met) with an Australian accent. She’s bubbly, peppy, and dealing with a trainload of internalized guilt over events that happened 500 years before the game even began.
Vanille, along with our sixth and later introduced really final party member, are the last survivors of a civilization that fought and lost a war against the floating colony the rest of the cast lives in 500 years ago. The two of them were cursed way back then, and entered stasis until the present day. Vanille is a gentle soul, and was horrified both at the number of innocent people she had killed way back when to complete her task, and at what her awakening had brought: both Serah and Dajh were cursed, by different gods, directly because of it. There’s actually a very touching scene shown as a flashback of Vanille meeting Serah a day or two before the events of the game proper, in which she essentially apologizes for what she’s done, and Serah forgives her despite not really understanding the extent of what Vanille was apologizing for. There’s also an even more powerful scene when Sazh finds out that what happened to Dajh was Vanille’s fault, after spending roughly a full day trying to keep the young woman alive. Sazh has a tough decision to make, but it ultimately results in Vanille realizing that she is worthy of forgiveness, which she can achieve by joining with the other characters to save the people she was tasked with destroying.
The sixth and final party member is Oerba Yun Fang, introduced about a chapter or so after the rest as a “mysterious woman” before swooping in with an appropriately named renegade army faction (the Cavalry) to save the other characters from a tight spot. She also has an Australian accent, marking her and Vanille as native to the surface of the planet. (The difference is that Vanille’s VA is actually Australian. Fang’s is not.)
Fang is in many ways a foil to Lightning. She has the same sort of big sister relationship to Vanille that Lightning has with Serah; although where Lightning is overprotective because she doesn’t want to lose her only family, Fang is overprotective because she and Vanille are literally the only members of their people left alive (to their and our knowledge), and they are actively being hunted down by a hostile nation. Fang’s motivation is to keep Vanille safe, at any cost, even her own humanity. There’s an often-quoted line: “I’ll tear down the sky if it’ll save her.” There are some people who view Fang and Vanille’s relationship as romantic, and while I understand where they’re coming from, I prefer the parity it gives the narrative if Fang and Vanille’s relationship is incredibly similar to that of Lightning and Serah’s. While Lightning learns to overcome her unfounded distrust of others, Fang is overcoming her very well founded distrust of others. Both women learn to open up to their companions; that they aren’t as alone in the world as they feel they have to be.
I also really loved the ending of this game, so spoilers follow. The heroes win; what kind of Final Fantasy game would it be if the villain wins, eh? Though the floating colony does get dropped on the planet, our heroes were able to convince the army to evacuate the colony instead of fighting to the death, which means most of the civilians survived. Fang and Vanille, however, sacrificed themselves to stasis in crystal for an unknown amount of time to create a support pillar for the colony; it forms into the logo for the game, which I thought was a clever touch. Lightning, Snow, Sazh, and Hope are all rocketed to the surface of the planet, but survive via also being turned to crystal; they are freed from the stasis and the brands indicating them as cursed have mysteriously vanished. Out of the wreckage walks Serah and Dajh, also freed from the curse, to reunite with their families. Bartholomew Estheim is nowhere to be seen, but a codex entry in XIII-2 confirms that he survived and reunited with Hope after the fact. I would have liked for him to be there, but I understand that showing the reunion with Serah (and Dajh) was more important. It was a bit jarring hearing Leona Lewis in 2017, as I had forgotten she even existed, but apparently there was no way to translate the Japanese theme into English and have it still be lyrical AND make sense, so they substituted an English song with the same thematic elements. It’s a nice song, and it works. This was a good ending to a good story in a maybe-okay-at-best game.
Beautiful music, lovely visuals, fantastic characters that play off each other, stacked up against a control system that takes almost a full day to learn, a slightly sluggish camera, and a linear, story-driven game world (which apparently counts as a bad thing for some reason). I love this game. I’ve heard very good things about VI, and everyone always gushes over VII and IX, but until I get to those, I have my favourite Final Fantasy, and it’s XIII.

                                                                                GROWTH & GRATITUDE
When Heavensward launched I was in a pretty awkward point in-game. I wasn’t entirely too invested in XIV or in MMO’s in general. The group I played with was a mix of old-school MMO WoW veterans and die-hard FF fans. I wasn’t exactly mechanic savvy nor too enthralled in the lore behind this game. I was put in a weird spot, to say the least. I couldn’t help but feel out of place with both the friends I had and the giant community sprawled out before me. It took...countless fucking hours of throwing my head against content, seeking guidance from other players, and fighting against my own ignorance to get comfortable playing this game.  Around that time, I had also stumbled across the XIV community here on Tumblr through a friend. Our community is a vast fucking place and I felt extremely overwhelmed at first. Like, I can barely interact with people in-game as it is, man. I had no clue how things worked on this end. However, one thing I was quickly able to latch onto were screenshot edits. I’d had....many...many years of experience with this concept back when I was roleplaying (on Myspace of all things). It was after this little rediscovery that I found my niche here and the rest of it is pretty self-explanatory. Fast forward two(ish) years later and things have changed. I love this damn game guys, I really do. Being able to experience new content, striving to improve both job and player skill is such a damn thrill for me. I’m confident in what I can offer as a player and I’m constantly excited for new opportunities to grow.
As for this blog, oh man...I never in a million years expected this to be where it’s at today. I really just used this blog to selfishly post screenshots and fuck man....the response has just been so overwhelmingly wonderful.
Look, I’ve never been particularly good at expressing my feelings, ESPECIALLY not through writing. Things come a bit more naturally through speech but most of the time? I keep to myself outside of my small circles and even then I tend to internalize my anxieties onto myself. It’s tough conveying my thoughts into words since my mind tends to race around. However, despite these difficulties, one thing that’s always come naturally to me is the ability to express gratitude. I am so damn thankful to those of you who have had a hand in helping me grow both as a player and as a member of this community. So before we trudge off into expansion, I wanted to draft something up to commemorate the time I’ve spent with each of you:
Tumblr media
Thank you to everyone I’ve met within or because of @theriskbreakers : @sylvan-rain @onwesterlywinds @crimson-bull @thefateofivalice @a-kelping-hand @moonlifter @safestsephiroth @thecat-inthehat @afflatus-solace @reflectionsofacreator @quartercirclejab @the-goggles-lizard @wandererspaean @ivaan-ffxiv @tovakiin @zulak-rah @jenesislabariel @twelvesavethequeen @wyranimh @cogflox @varae-ver-you-are (I’m sure I’m missing tons more, sorry.)
Seriously, guys, it’s been a while since I first stumbled through the Sandsea’s doors but it’s been a blast. Thank you for always making things feel at home despite the fact that RP isn’t really my thing. Whether we’re blitzing through content or goofing off in chat it’s been wonderful and I can’t wait to see what Stormblood has to offer for us.
Tumblr media
Thank you to my raid static for 3.X: @khojin-arulaq @sessionzeroart @evrett

Thank you to @mahnsturr @raelcsart @yalakid @dantroziman @doorway-through @fainfaineant for all the fun I’ve had with each of you in GRIMM. Thank you for all the great art of Amon and thank you so much Rae for taking care of my Alex’s ass. <3
THANK YOU TO MY MOTHERFUCKING DISCORD: @haila-wetyios @luma-lee @naveiasue @lyriahkarnelle @sharlayan-scholar @desertsaffron FOR PUTTING UP WITH ALL THE UNADULTERATED BAT-SHIT CRAZY NONSENSE THAT OCCURS IN THERE EACH DAY. It gets absolutely fucking wild sometimes in Unlimited Chat Works and I am fucking blessed that you guys still manage to put up with my bullshit. Whether we’ve been friends since the beginning or you’re just now realizing how crazy we are in there thank you. I love you guys with all my fucking heart and I have so much fun every single day in there with each of you.
Thank you, @koidrakevice you fucker for so, so, much. For all the times we’ve spent late at night theory-crafting, grinding, researching, just...playing XIV. None of this would have happened if you hadn’t gotten me back into the game. I’ve grown so much because of you and being able to do content our way with you and Douglas is genuinely the thing I look forward to the most in Stormblood. Thank you, buddy, for being one of the best friends I’ve ever had and for playing XIV with me. It means more than you know and more than I’ll ever fucking admit because fuck you.
Thank you always, @fishtailsushi I love you the world over and playing XIV together with you is something I’ll remember for the rest of our lives. You’ve grown so much in this game and in many aspects, you’re a far better player than I am. Thank you for continuing to stand with me and in making memories with all of our crazy friends. Thank you for pushing me to do better and supporting me through all of my doubts in-game and in real life. I love you poop, and thank you.~
Finally... thank you to everyone who’s been a part of the journey thus far. I’m not sure where things will end up in Stormblood, but I can promise you that I’m going to continue to improve, both as a player and a member of this crazy community. So if you’ve made it this far, take to heart that regardless of our differences, we’re all in this together. Fuck whatever discourse may pop up and just try to have fun and focus on all the good around you because as you can see, this place full of love, you’ve just got to open yourself up to it.-
Take care, and I’ll see you in Stormblood.
Patrick Amon.
