"I just don't understand why everything is so much all the time and why other people seem to be so much better at handling life."
"I just don't understand why everything is so much all the time and why other people seem to be so much better at handling life."
"Reid...why don't you close the door behind you," says Gideon, motioning to a chair for Spencer to sit down, which he does. "Now...where is this coming from?"
Spencer sighs. "I've been at the BAU for a month now and...I guess it just isn't exactly what I expected. Or maybe I'm not what I expected. I just thought I would be able to handle things better, and I can't, and I feel like I'm decades behind everyone here despite only being a few years younger, and I don't understand why I feel so overwhelmed all the time, and I don't know how to fix it." He leans forward, head in his hands. "Did I make a mistake taking this job?" he asks, his voice muffled.
"No," Gideon says quickly. "No, you didn't make a mistake taking this job, Reid. It's hard for everyone at first, I promise you that. It's an adjustment. It takes time to adapt."
"I'm not adapting, though. I'm just...a mess."
"Spencer." Gideon crosses his arms across his chest. "When you joined this team, we made a decision together to keep your autism diagnosis out of your file to give you a better chance at normalcy. I'm wondering if that wasn't the wrong call."
"The wrong call?"
Gideon nods. "Maybe we should tell Hotch so we can get you some accommodations. Maybe that would help make things a little bit more manageable for you."
"You think I'm struggling because of my autism?" Spencer frowns.
"Aren't you?"
Spencer slumps down in his chair and looks away.
"Yeah," he grumbles. "I guess so. Maybe. Probably."
"There's nothing wrong with needing accommodations, Spencer."
"Then why did you want to keep this quiet in the first place?"
"Honestly," says Gideon, "I don't think I really understood what you were dealing with, before. After observing you every day for a month, I think I have a better idea now. And I regret the path we chose to take."
"The team will start treating me differently."
"They don't have to know," Gideon promises. "We'll just tell Hotch, okay?"
Spencer thinks about it for a long time, but eventually, reluctantly, nods. "Okay," he agrees. "We can tell Hotch."
"This is going to be good for you, Reid. I promise."
And it is.

Do all 25 for borderlands. Yknow. For funsies.
There will be a readmore line here somehow because on god I’m about to say so much. let me preface: all my hot takes on the matter are a solid 4 years old at minimum, I do not keep up to date on the blands fandom, my enjoyment of the series exists exclusively in isolation these days, etc., etc., if things have changed then I simply do not know about it
1. the character everyone gets wrong
Handsome Jack. He is not a good dad. He is also not in his 30s. That man has an adult daughter and has been married twice. I refuse to believe he was anything under 50 during BL2.
2. a compelling argument for why your fave would never top or bottom
DHKDGDJSHDJDJ I sure did forget this was one of the questions. Um. My faves are all verse and no one would refuse to do one thing or another.
3. description of the worst take you’ve seen on tumblr
I saved this for last and then still couldn’t bring myself to remember anything so this doesn’t get an answer because I simply do not want to remind myself of those takes
4. what was the last straw that made you finally block that annoying person?
Back in my borderlands days I was afraid of blocking people so I simply did not do it. Took me until only a couple years ago to finally realize “Oh this rules and significantly improves my online experience” and now I block all the time, but this is an entirely separate blog from my borderlands one so it doesn’t have any crossover
5. worst discord server and why?
This one I can’t answer. Discord wasn’t a thing for my original dive into borderlands. We all were just on tumblr constantly and then me and a few friends also talked on Skype
6. which ship fans are the most annoying?
Handsome jack/Rhys. I mean I was there. I was in the thick of it. I could see it. But oh my god the braindead takes on it and the aggressive insistence that it was basically canon! The number of people who actively harassed people who liked the actual in-game love interests! The amount of times I saw people say “I don’t personally like this so I’d rather people not discuss it around me” only to be bombarded with dozens of responses discussing it in detail! Wretched! One of the all-time worst collective cases of people insisting the biggest and most popular ship was effectively canon and getting mad at anyone saying otherwise
7. what character did you begin to hate because not because of canon but because of how the fandom acts about them?
Handsome Jack. lol. lmao.
8. common fandom opinion that everyone is wrong about
Handsome Jack is a dogshit father and every single fluff piece or “Happy father’s day lol” post or headcanon about him being a good dad to Angel is dead wrong to an astounding degree. He put her in a cage and used her as a computer for her entire life and frankly she should have gotten to kill him
9. worst part of canon
Borderlands 3.
I was going to say “I kid” but I don’t. It has its moments, but god, it sucks so bad. Killing Maya, replacing Angel with Tannis, writing off Lilith, doing what they did with Aurelia (she would NOT fuck that man), flanderizing the characters from TftBL (Vaughn’s… whole situation…), and— god I just remembered mid-sentence that New Tales exists. That one was actually worse than BL3 somehow.
10. worst part of fanon
Handsome Jack. I’m just gonna keep saying this for basically every question that asks about the bad parts of fandom because literally… him and the people rabidly defending him. (<- he is my favorite character and also I think he deserved worse than he got. these are not mutually exclusive)
11, number of fandom-related words you’ve filtered
See above re: blocking people, I didn’t filter things at the time and on this blog I follow almost no one who posts borderlands content
12. the unpopular character that you actually like and why more people should like them
Fiona is weirdly unpopular given that she’s literally a protagonist. The same with Lilith, actually, now that I think about it; people seem to either be “meh” about her or frothing-at-the-mouth enraged about her. And they’re wrong! Fiona is a great character who deserved to actually fucking exist in bl3, and Lilith is really well written as understandably arrogant and capable! Also, Nakayama and Vasquez. I can’t take credit for being into those two because other people with extremely good taste did it first and influenced me, but it remains true. And ELLIE. I know “unpopular” isn’t strictly true of her because I think most people would say they like her, but Ellie is a gold star across every game she’s in and I wish there was even more of her and I wish people appreciated her more. Love Ellie.
13. worst blorbofication
. handsome jack.
14. that one thing you see in fics all the time
So many borderlands fics are a/b/o. Mpreg is like the DEFAULT. It boggles the mind. “Rhys Borderlands is Handsome Jack’s PA and then he goes into heat in his boss’s office and Jack is such a ruggedly masculine alpha he takes suuuuch good care of him!” Gives me the ick. One thing they don’t tell you about naming yourself after a video game character is the rammys when you try to read a fic and see Your Own Name in those situations.
15. that one thing you see in fanart all the time
I actually don’t really remember the fanart well enough to say about this. I vaguely remember a lot of art of Rhys Borderlands strung up like a puppet controlled by Jack, but beyond that, I’unno
16. you can’t understand why so many people like this thing
Can I be very fully and entirely honest. I don’t love Tim. I don’t hate Tim! And I’ve turned around on him a lot, his appearance in the Handsome Jackpot DLC in bl3 is phenomenal and he’s a great character! And it’s a super interesting concept! I just still don’t love him.
17. there should be more of this type of fic/art
I want more fics where Angel survives and gets out from under Jack’s influence. Let the Crimson Raiders be her new parents. I want her to be Maya’s best friend and I want her to date Gaige and I want her to be there in person to kick Jack in the dick when he loses badly and then dies.
18. it’s absolutely criminal that the fandom has been sleeping on…
The Pre-Sequel. The Pre-Sequel. The Pre-Sequel. YES the gameplay can be tedious at times. However. I love the Pre-Sequel so much. Love the writing. Adore the plot. Cherish the individual Vault Hunters. The Claptastic DLC remains one of my favorite DLCs. Love Elpis. Fucking love Janey Springs. Hate the way they left so many loose ends to be tied up plot-wise and then just kinda went “lol nvm all that” in the next game.
19. you’re mad/ashamed/horrified you actually kind of like…
IYKYK ;)
20. part of canon you found tedious or boring
A lot of the Pre-Sequel is going back and forth across very large open areas using Stingrays which are a vehicle I do not love. A lot of BL3 is also going back and forth across very large open areas using vehicles which control like the Stingrays. There are so many quests that are just “drive around and kill 30 guys and pick up 8 items then drive here and kill 30 animals and pick up 8 more items then drive back and kill 30 guys and give me the items.”
21. part of canon you think is overhyped
I don’t really think there are overhyped things unless BL3 entirely counts as overhyped, which… not anymore. Honestly most of the stuff that’s hyped is fairly understandable. The most popular DLCs are inevitably the ones which are the most well-written with interesting mechanics.
22. your favorite part of canon that everyone else ignores
I already said the Pre-Sequel. Uh, if “everyone else” includes the writers, then TftBL, because they absolutely just threw all of that except Rhys and Vaughn in the trash and then ran those two through a meat grinder.
23. ship you’ve unwillingly come around to
No “unwilling” about ‘em, I’m usually pretty much open to whatever, but I also don’t even poke my head into the tags these days so I haven’t experienWAIT no I just remembered Zer0/Rhys is a thing. I used to not like it. I do now. Silly goofy.
24. topic that brings up the most rancid discourse
“Is it okay to like Handsome Jack?” I will not be elaborating because thinking too much about the endless debates gives me hives
25. common fandom complaint that you’re sick of hearing
Once again I am too disconnected from the greater fandom these days to actually know and be annoyed by what people are complaining about.

ok ok first fic sentence and feel free to ignore if you don’t like it:
“For the very first time that she could remember, Franziska von Karma was… running late.”
HI VYN!!! and omg THANK U FOR THE PROMPT 👀 for the 1 sentence/5 sentences ask meme! .... as anyone who knows my writing may have guessed would happen, we have gone slightly over 5 sentences
For the very first time that she can remember, Franziska von Karma is... running late.
A von Karma is never late. That particular rule is in bold font on the long, scrolling list of legislation in the back of her head, stamped there in a curt Germanic font from before she could talk back to him (and she did not, ever, talk back to him, even after she could). A von Karma is well-dressed, composed at all times, and is never late to a professional engagement.
But she isn't late for court. Or a professional engagement. This is worse.
Because she is late for an appointment with Maya Fey.
She keeps her breaths purposely even and short as she stalks down the boulevarde, other meaningless pedestrians swaying from her path like leaves of grass, but the air pulses through her windpipe with razor edges, cutting her self-control to ribbons. Franziska has faced far more terrifying fates than this, of potentially disappointing an acquaintance of all things, and she will not allow herself to consider the difference between this situation and all others, because unbidden a thought has wound itself around and around her fingers, so tight they curl into a helpless rictus - Maya Fey, leaving before she gets there.
It's ridiculous. She is only five minutes late.
But she hurtles into the cinema lobby in such a blind, furious dash that she feels the world spin as she stops, finally, spotting a figure she recognises even if she should not.
Because she's entirely different - without the silhouette of her ceremonial robes and with her hair untied, falling down her back in a satin-gloss inky waterfall - but Franziska still sees her across the room, and Maya Fey is still here.
The frantic voice goes silent.
And Maya doesn't seem angry at all. Franziska is spotted before she can remember how to put herself back together, into some semblance of a regular English-speaking person and not a frazzled collection of sharp panes of glass, only able to speak in a range of clattering noises. But Maya just grins with her whole body, as she always does, and waves her over, the other arm wrapped around two enormous buckets of popcorn, crushed up against the cropped Steel Samurai shirt she is wearing over stretchy patterned leggings.
There is just an edge of relief in the way Maya's eyes crinkle, when she sees her, like she'd somehow been prepared for Franziska to never show up at all (which is preposterous and Franziska lashes vehemently at herself, in the privacy of her own mind, at even the trace of it visible on her face. Another law stamps itself on the ledger, white-hot and hissing with steam (this time wholly contrary to what her father would have wanted, and finally, in a tiny but alight and furious defiance, she could not care less what he thinks). Always Make Maya Fey Feel Wanted, are the words, and they settle into her like Miles always said truth does.) Franziska feels the trembling in her chest, the effort to maintain her grip, to stay afloat above a sea of unknowns, everpresent since before she can remember, inexplicably... ease.
And everything... stops.

Rules: share the first lines of ten of your most recent fanfics and tag ten people. If you have written less than ten, don’t be shy and share anyway.
tagged by the wonderful @uncleasad Thank you for tagging me! I did the first paragraph of each fic because the first sentences just seemed oof.
1 I want to see me clearly (I see you clearly) : Jade Claymore/Kit Tanthalos
When you looked at yourself what did you see? Kit always saw what her mother wanted her to be. What her birthright was. She should be grateful, she was, being a princess was luck bestowed upon her. Even if it wasn’t something she wanted, she understood that much.
2 jealousy, jealousy, I am yours : Wednesday Addams/Enid Sinclair
Enid had waited a long time for her soulmate. It wasn't unnatural for someone to go way into adulthood without them, but something told her she would find hers when she was a teenager.
3 summer rush : Hope Mikaelson/Josie Saltzman
Hope, for a moment thought about hiding. Maybe if they couldn’t find her on campus they would just leave without her. It was childish, of course she knew that. But maybe childlike tricks to get her out of the Saltzman's beach house for three months was worth it.
4 when the stuffed animals go marching in : Wednesday Addams/Enid Sinclair
The room was cold on the winter night, Wednesday sat at her desk reading a particularly interesting book when- there it was. The small thud- no, not a thud, more of a plop from a small color stuffed animal hitting the ground. She grit her teeth, cursing Enid Sinclair.
5 I love the nostalgia in your darkness, I call it home : Wednesday Addams/Enid Sinclair
Enid didn’t expect it when it happened.
But when it did her eyes were not first met with color but darkness. And then she saw the brown, the eyes. How beautiful they were and her feet took her forward.
6 sweet and sour and not a bit of nice : Wednesday Addams/Enid Sinclair
Enid decided long ago that Wednesday was torturous. She was morbid, blunt, and some would even say horrifying. And Enid loved every second of it.
7 I’ve fallen into a trope : Riley Matthews/Maya Hart
RileyMatthews: hiii Twitter 😝 I finally remembered my password in time to announce my new tv show! Transparent with the beautiful Maya Hart!
8 I am infinity falling for you : Hope Mikaelson/Josie Saltzman
“Why are you even pouting!” Lizzie complains as she and Josie sit down at their lunch table. MG was already there and gave his girlfriend a loving kiss while Josie groaned.
9 the universe is a bitch, but at least they’re high while it falls apart : Hope Mikaelson/Josie Saltzman
Josie isn’t really sure how or when it started if she’s being honest. They had moments, small moments here and there.
10 dumb love never hit me so bad : Hope Mikaelson/Josie Saltzman
When Hope was little she used to be so curious about the red string attached to her pinky. She used to tilt her head and just stare at the wall it went through in wonder.
And there we have it! Ten wonderful fics I’ve written! The one rilaya fic makes me giggle dhdhhd
I don’t actually really talk to people— I’m quite a loner so I’m just going to tag people I know write fanfic on here. I would tag Asad but they tagged me smh.
Feel free to do the challenge if you want! No hard feelings if you don’t.

Note
You mentioned in your ask that you have 10 wips, I'm curious to hear what they're about!! :)
Ok so. Admittedly most of these are about Penny Nichols because I. Have a problem. But I'll explain em! Image is of my phone screen because I set my current WIPs out there and mostly write on my phone before I go to bed
Tumblr media
Little Shop of Turnabouts: Little Shop of Horrors/Ace Attorney crossover fic! Apollo has to defend Seymour for Orin's "murder". This also means Apollo is going to cross examine a plant which I think gives him a one-up on Phoenix
Best Friends to Lovers: Claydar fic! Set 5(? 4? Something like that I think it's 5) years after Dual Destinies. Clay lives AU (obviously) Daryan has a lighter sentence than someone else would because I want him to. It's Clay and Daryan meeting each other and just like. Falling in live but there's ALSO going to be a mystery and angst. I can't help myself. I mean there's already angst I have 3 chapters up already.
Steel Samurai is Real AU: basically Penny is the Steel Samurai who is like. A vigilante who saves Maya's life and there's an alternate 1-3 and 1-4 and Mia lives. I think this is my only fic with Narumitsu at the moment. Also it has Feychols because I can't help myself.
Groundhog Clay: Timeloop Claydar! Basically once Clay dies he wakes up again, not on the day of the launch or anything, but one and a half years earlier on the day 4-3 begins. And so does Daryan. Neither of them really know what's going on but Daryan sees Clay and he KNOWS Clay wasn't there before and basically they've gotta get through the loop without Letouse or Clay dying
ASOLTAFKV the Squeakwel: a sequel to my fic A Series of Letters To and From Kurain Village (it's Feychols because of course it is). I've been posting my first drafts here as Turnabout Wedding Belles. Because it's a wedding fic. It has almost nothing to do with the previous fic except for the fact that at the end of the last one, the epilogue was a wedding invitation. Basically: there's been a murder at Penny and Maya's wedding and it's Phoenix and Trucy up against Klavier (ft Daryan and Ema as detective and forensics because I don't like making ocs and I like Daryan and Ema would be there for the wedding)
Mlem and Wooloo Solidarity: Penny and Simon Blackquill are friends. Besties, even. I just think the samurai nerds deserve to be samurai nerds together (platonically)
Royal AU Feychols: what it says on the tin. Basically Maya's a princess and Penny is her guard and an assassin attacks Penny (thinking she's Maya because she's wearing one of Maya's dresses. For the record when I wrote her getting shot in the shoulder with a crossbow I completely forgot about Franziska and her bullet shoulder I just thought it would be an area that would provide injury but probably wouldn't kill or prevent her from walking) and there's light magic (as in. Not a fleshed out magic system or anything it's kinda a thing but not a MAJOR thing) and I wrote one very good gay kiss that just happened to have a corpse in the background
Beep Beep Bitches It's the Mafia: mostly based on a dream I had where Dee was secretly Penny's mom because I like the trope of homoerotically having a weapon pointed at you. Penny's in the mafia now. Surprise. Also Mia lives and the Feys are chill Dahlia is cool and not murdery they're literally just vibing.
Swap AU (I'm Confused Already): the Feychols/Klapollo swap au where Apollo is Phoenix's assistant and Klavier is a PA hoping to be a star and Maya is a defense attorney and Penny is a musician prosecutor. A bunch of other people have switched places or roles in the story (like Mia and Kristoph) but there's very little of it right now it's mostly in the Frantic Tumblr Posts phase
Gay Gay Homosexual Gay: I already mentioned I like weapons pointed but gay. This has that and also Maya being possessed because that's also a concept I've been pondering for a while. So why not put both into one! Admittedly this is a new oneshot so it's more likely to be abandoned because I feel like I have stronger ideas for the other ones and I like writing multi chapter fics but if it gets published it should be fun
Bonus secret 11th fic that is like probably 3/4 of a year ish into planning? I don't remember when we started but it's been a while: another time loop fic. Centered around Penny and Kristoph and their relationships with their parents. Based off an RP from a server I'm in (I play Penny, friend played Kristoph, we're working on it together) also if you've seen me talking about my fucked up judge kinda oc (based on a guy who is only mentioned in 4-3 and is never shown or even named) and hus kid (same thing) this is basically The Thing With Them. It's nicknamed the Ancient Milfs and every time I try to explain it thoroughly I have to give like at least a page of backstory on Milf Lore
Yeah that's basically it! sorry to everyone who doesn't have #long post blocked and is on mobile, have fun scrolling!

#191: The Best Writing Quotes From the Past Year
Tumblr media
I post a lot of writing quotes and advice on this blog. Every once in a while, I like to trawl through the archive to see which quotes were the most popular. Today, we're looking at the top 10 quotes from the past year.
#10: Louis L’Amour (810 notes)
“Start writing, no matter what. The water does not flow until the faucet is turned on.” — Louis L’Amour
This quote is a staple of any collection of quotes on writing.
#9: John Green (888 notes)
“Writing is something you do alone. It's a profession for introverts who want to tell you a story but don’t want to make eye contact while doing it.” — John Green
Relatable for sure...
#8: Anne Tyler (998 notes)
“I would advise any beginning writer to write the first drafts as if no one else will ever read them — without a thought about publication — and only in the last draft to consider how the work will look from the outside.” — Anne Tyler
So much good advice in a single sentence!
#7: Octavia E. Butler (958 notes)
“You don’t start out writing good stuff. You start out writing crap and thinking it’s good stuff, and then gradually you get better at it. That’s why I say one of the most valuable traits is persistence.” — Octavia E. Butler
#6: Maya Angelou (1,002 notes)
“There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.” — Maya Angelou
Another classic writing quote, this time from Maya Angelou.
#5: Shannon Hale (1,046 notes)
“I’m writing a first draft and reminding myself that I’m simply shovelling sand into a box so that later I can build castles.” — Shannon Hale
This one blew my mind when I first read it. When you're not feeling like writing, just shovel sand into a box.
#4: Maya Angelou (1,079 notes)
“You can’t use up creativity. The more you use the more you have.” — Maya Angelou
This is so true. You'll always have more new ideas.
#3: E.L Doctorow (1,836 notes)
“Writing a novel is like driving a car at night. You can only see as far as your headlights, but you can make the whole trip that way.” — E. L. Doctorow
Another very well-known quote and an important piece of advice.
#2: W.H. Auden (4,216 notes)
“Some writers confuse authenticity, which they ought always to aim at, with originality, which they should never bother about.” — W.H. Auden
I found this one only recently. And I guess I'm not the only one who liked it.
#1: Stephen King (8,766 notes)
“A story should entertain the writer, too.” — Stephen King
At the very top of the list with a comfortable lead — Stephen King himself.
What is your favourite writing quote?

How to be an ally
(I fixed ALL the links so fucking reblog)
1.  Check In On Your Black Friends/Acquaintances
In my opinion, I believe the best way to be an ally is to reach out to your Black friends and check in on them, consistently. If you can recognize the times we are living in are absolute hell, you should be checking in on the most effected. None of my friends have checked up on me to see how I was doing or just to talk. They didn’t even bring up the protests until I did. It feels very very lonely and scary to not be checked up on by the people who say they support and love you. So, I’m making this the first point because I don’t want anyone else to feel this way, not trying to complain.
2.  Learn More About Black History
It’s important to learn about the Black activists that our history books left out. Yes, Martin Luther King Jr. was, and is, important but we need to reflect on why he was pushed on us so much in our history classes, compared to other Black leaders. Is it because our government would rather us walk down the street holding signs than actually defending ourselves against the cop who’s beating us?
Here’s a master list of activists to start you off.
3.  Go to Rallies and Protests (If you can)
Find protests and rallies in your area by looking on Twitter and search #yourcityprotest. Or watch your local news channel to see where they are (if they’re being covered on the news). Also search on Facebook. Wear a mask.
4. Donate and Sign Petitions
If you don’t have extra money to donate, that’s fine. If you still want to be an ally then sign all the petitions you can. Take a day to research all the ones you can sign/haven’t signed and sign them!
(Also you don’t need to donate to change.org! Directly donate to non-profit organizations and victims’ families!)

2, 3, 5, 7 & 11 for the identity ask :D
Thank you! 2. have you ever found a writer who thinks just like you? if so, who?I don't think so, but not because I think that my thoughts are uniquely singular, more so my stream of consciousness is wack and I get words or sentences stuck in my head on repeat that make no sense. I think its hard to connect writing to thoughts because writing is so refined and brains be jumbled, you know? I'm listening to Little weirds by jenny slate and it is making me very emotional all the time so maybe that
3. List your fandoms and one character from each that you identify with. FUCK Okay. There's definitely who I want to be like and then there are the people I am probably most like. Marvel would probably be that I want to be like Natasha and I do definitely identify with her a lot being a woman wronged by many men and a large system but I also feel weird doing so because shes so cool and badass and I am very much not. RDR2 is similar with Sadie Adler, I wish I was like her but I don't think I am very much but I relate god damn it. Honestly probably also arthur. Borderlands would probably be claptrap. Just kidding. Probably Maya. NANA is i fucking wish i was like nana osaki but I am definitely more Hachi in Nana osaki leaning clothing i keep it mostly on the dl but Im bystander to the jjba fandom and i cannot say who i identIfy with there because they're all dumb as shit and I am dim but not that dumb. i used to be in the criminal minds fandom so I'll include that and easily Emily Prentiss. that was long sorry.
5. Do you think of yourself as a human being or a human doing? do you identify yourself by the things you do? I dont really know, because who I am and what I do feel so different. I am often perceived very differently than what I think myself to be so I dont know. I dont want to exclusively define myself by just what I am doing in that time period because I am an artist now but what if I take a teaching position and have no time for my own practice, do I cease to be an artist? Idk. Im just . out here. vibing.
7. Do you care about your ethnicity? Yes and no. My mom got me a dna test a few years back and I did it because I thought it was interesting and also my dads side of the family is huge and crazy so I wanted to see if I had any unknown relatives (I do :) currently in contact with a cousin I didn't know I had because my dads brother is a cad) I will admit it just hasn't played a huge role in my life besides the coat of arms my aunt keeps in her house and that my GG made lutifisk at christmas and those are mostly on the periphery.
11. Describe your ideal day. It is warm. I wake up late, I have my morning coffee, I work on my art for most of the day but in a leisurely way, not in a deadline sort of way, perferably with my gf also doing whatever shes doing in the near vicinity. Lay with her a while, make dinner with her, lay with her a while longer, either watch a film we've been recommended or do some other activity together. Maybe take the dog for a walk, perferably in the mid evening when the streetlights have just turned on. I stay up late, doing stupid shit or reading. I love being awake at night time. I also make tea from my collection at least twice.
Thank you for asking!

A friend of mine recently shared how loud silence can be, specifically from her white friends following the murder of George Floyd. We might feel inclined to offer sympathy with statements like “I can’t believe this happened” or “this doesn’t feel real,” but it is the very privilege of being white that is causing us to feel shocked while this is an every day reality for black Americans. My heart, thoughts, and prayers go out to the victims of police brutality and racism as well as all black Americans, but that is not enough. Thoughts and prayers are never enough. Now is the time for white Americans to reflect on our privilege and use it. Teach other white people about the barriers in society that exist for black Americans and call them out (this includes friends and family) if they are being racist, even when it’s uncomfortable to do so. Listen to and amplify the voices of black Americans - share their words, posts, work, businesses, art, etc during this time and ALL of the time. Lastly, learn! This is a result of a history of racism in the United States, the oppressive system that is the police, and an unjust justice system. What you shouldn’t do is share videos of these murders (share the graphics of artists instead), photographs of protestors (it can put them at risk), speak over black Americans, or be ignorant for the sake of blocking out negativity. You cannot and should not ignore this reality. What can you do, besides attending a protest (which you should if you are able)? See below!
There is a lot of information about contacting government officials and legislators, places to donate, and petitions to sign. I compiled the information I found. Know the words below are not all my own, with information gathered from a Medium article titled 75 Things White People Can Do for Racial Justice and a USA Today article titled Resources, ways to donate: How you can take action from home after the death of George Floyd as well as information I found on my own.
Contacting legislators, lawmakers, and other officials:
* Google whether your local police department currently requires all on-duty police officers to wear a body camera turned on immediately whenever they respond to a call. If they don’t, email your city or town representative and police chief to advocate for it.
* Google whether your city or town uses evidence-based police de-escalation trainings. If not, again email your city or town representative and police chief to advocate for it.
* Call or email your federal legislators in support of the bipartisan (sponsored by Sen Lee (R-UT)) Smarter Sentencing Act (S. 2850) which reduces the length of federal mandatory minimum drug sentences by half, makes the Fair Sentencing Act’s crack sentencing reforms retroactive, and expands the “safety valve” exception to mandatory drug sentences. This is would reduce mandatory minimum sentences on a federal level! Obviously decriminalization is the goal, but supporting this legislation is a start.
* Call or email your federal legislators in support of the bipartisan(sponsored by Sen Rand (R-KY)) Justice Safety Valve Act (S. 399, H.R. 1097), which would allow judges to give sentences other than the mandatory minimum sentence for any federal crime which should again reduce mandatory minimum sentences! Again, a start.
* Call or email your federal legislators in support of another criminal justice reform bill, the Second Look Act, which would make reduced sentences for crack convictions from the previously passed Fair Sentencing Act retroactive, reduce mandatory minimums for people convicted more than three times for drug crimes from life without parole after the third offense to 25 years, reduce mandatory sentences for drug crimes from 15 to 10 years, limit the use of solitary confinement on juvenile prisoners, etc. Again, it’s a start.
* Call or email your your state legislators and governor to support state-wide criminal justice reform! This includes reducing mandatory minimum sentences, reducing sentences for non-violent drug crimes, passing “safety valve” law to allow judges to depart below a mandatory minimum sentence under certain conditions, passing alternatives to incarceration, etc.
* Call or write to state legislators, federal legislators, and your governor to decriminalize weed.
* Call or write to state legislators to require racial impact statements be required for all criminal justice bills. Most states already require fiscal and environmental impact statements for certain legislation. Racial impact statements evaluate if a bill may create or exacerbate racial disparities should the bill become law. Check out the status of your state’s legislation surrounding these statements here.
* Call or write to state legislators, federal legislators, and your governor to end solitary confinement in excess of 15 days. It is considered torture by the UN, and it is used more frequently on black and Hispanic prisoners.
* Write to the US Sentencing Commission ([email protected]) and ask them to:
* reform the career offender guideline to lessen the length of sentences
* change the guidelines so that more people get probation
* change the criminal history guidelines so that a person’s criminal record counts against them less
* change guidelines to reduce mandatory minimum sentences for non-violent crimes
* conduct a study to review the impact of parental incarceration on minor children. With more data, the Commission could modify the Sentencing Guidelines and allow judges to take this factor into account when sentencing individuals for non-violent crimes.
* conduct a study to review whether the Bureau of Prisons is following the Commission’s encouragement to file a motion for compassionate release whenever “extraordinary and compelling reasons” exist.
* consider amending the guidelines to reduce sentences for first offenders.
* Write to your state legislators to end cash bail. Your wealth should not determine your freedom. Legally innocent people are in jail not because they’re guilty, but because they cannot afford the price of their freedom.
Petitions:
(If you need postal code for non-US people who sign 90015 is Los Angeles, CA; 10001 is New York City, NY; and 75001 is Dallas, TX.)
* Sign the petition here that aims to “reach the attention of Mayor Jacob Frey and DA Mike Freeman to beg to have the officers involved in this disgusting situation fired and for charges to be filed immediately.“ https://www.change.org/p/mayor-jacob-frey-justice-for-george-floyd
* Sign the petition here to “demand the officers who killed George Floyd are charged with murder." So far, the petitions has garnered more than 1 million signatures. You can also sign by texting "Floyd" to 55156. https://act.colorofchange.org/sign/justiceforfloyd_george_floyd_minneapolis
* Sign the petition here “demanding justice for George Floyd and his family by adding your name to our super petition. When you sign, our platform will automatically send your message to County Attorney Michael Freeman, who has the power to arrest and charge these police officers.” All officers must be held responsible. https://www.justiceforbigfloyd.com/#petition
Text:
* Text “Justice” to 668366.
* Text “Floyd to 55156 to sign the petition mentioned above.
Donate money:
* GoFundMe: Organized by Philonise Floyd, George's brother, the fund was created to cover funeral and burial expenses, mental and grief counseling, lodging and travel for all court proceedings and to assist the family in the days to come as they “continue to seek justice for George,” according to the description. * Black Visions Collective: Aims “to shape a political home for Black people across Minnesota.” They are recommenced by the Minnesota Freedom Fund as they are out on the field right now. https://secure.everyaction.com/4omQDAR0oUiUagTu0EG-Ig2

* Philadelphia Printworks “supports local and national organizations doing work in the areas of food security, police brutality, immigrant rights, tlgbq+ rights, mass incarceration, and more. Support is determined by the needs of the organization and may be financial and/or resource based.” For example, 100% of the profits from the National Bail Out shirts goes to the NBO. https://www.philadelphiaprintworks.com/
* @ghosttownusa is donating 100% of Depop proceeds (@ablesistersvillage) to North Star Health Collective.
*Phenomenal Woman Action Campaign is inspired by Maya Angelou’s poem and supports a variety of organizations including Essie Justice Group, Black Futures Lab, and Higher Heights (as well as many others.) https://phenomenalwoman.us/pages/about
Lastly, be politically active and vote in all elections! Following the recent twitter response of Trump towards people protesting police brutality and considering the future of The Supreme Court, this presidential election matters. Local elections matter too and directly impact our community in our everyday lives. They are the ones who can change policing in our communities. Stay informed on candidates and if you want to do more, canvassing and volunteering at the polls on Election Day are two ways you can volunteer. However, remember that the solution to end police brutality is not a simple matter of voting Trump out of office - consider the victims of police brutality before this presidency. This requires supporting the campaigns of black candidates, specifically women, through organizations like Higher Heights which is “the only national organization providing Black women with a political home exclusively dedicated to harnessing their power to expand Black women’s elected representation and voting participation, and advance progressive policies.”
Please feel free to add on or send me any suggestions/corrections, and may George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and all victims of police brutality and racism rest in peace and power. 💕🖤

Inspiration and Reading Asks:
1. How long ago did you start reading fanfiction? Writing fanfiction? Started reading when I was 12, started writing it, when I was 14, so reading, 19 years ago, and writing 17 years ago.
2. How do you spend your time when it comes to fanfiction? Are you primarily a fic reader, writer, or a perfect 50/50 split of both? I’m a 33.3% reader, 33.3% WIP machine, a 33.4% writer, and 100% mess, I usually spend my time doing an absurd amount of WIP that comes out of thin air, like, I can be eating an apple, boom, Bori WIP, a cup of coffee? Boom, Roro WIP, breathing? Boom, Lucaya WIP (that last one happens the most)
3. Are there any fics that inspired you to write what you do? It’s called Unfaithful (EN), it’s on fanfiction.net, and honestly, it’s so well written, that I had nausea 3 times while reading it, the pain was so palpable that I felt ill from it.
4. Link your three favorite fics right now. Right now, and in order 1 - Unfaithful (EN)  2 - Twenty Nights  3 - Perfect
6. How do you find a new fic to read? Where do you primarily read fanfiction? Fanfiction or AO3, and have an excel doc with my favorite ships, then I go to the random number generator, putting 1 as the minimum and maximum the number of the last ship I added to the list, then hit random, and read about that ship, keep things fresh.
7. Do you prefer to read short fics or long fics? Both.
8. How often do you reblog/comment on fics that you like? When they are on Tumblr, a few times.
9. Tag 3 fic writers you think are underrated/unknown in the fandom/fanfiction community. I’m sorry, but I don’t know if they have Tumblr, so, amirmitchell, snowdrifts, and Onde Tu Esteves
10. What’s your favorite fandom, pairing, or character to read fic for? Fandom: Game of Thrones, love all those modern universe AU I have to say. Pairing: Lucaya (Not a surprise) Character: Lucas Friar, Portgas D. Ace, Roronoa Zoro, or Prince Zuko.
Fanfiction Writing Asks:
11. How do you come up with your fic titles? Coffee, food, and usually, Spotify, all that, sometimes, make my brain work into having titles about the things I want to write.
13. Do you outline your fics? How much of a headache would someone get if they just looked at an outline of yours without reading the fic? I do outlines, in 5 stages, so a pretty big one. 1 - I write in my notebook, what I want to write, like a general idea. 2 - Post it on my walls and door, to give the story some structure. 3 - Notebook outline the arch of the story. 4 - Outline every chapter on word. 5 - Reduce that chapter into mini arches to write faster.
14. Do you have a personal word minimum that you hold yourself too? Why or why not? I do (now), I usually don’t post anything that is less than 2900 words, Why? because we must not forget that writers not only write for people in the fandom, they mainly write for themselves, and I love to read something among that word count because that’s long enough to keep me on the hook.
16. Do you research for your fics? If so, how deep of a rabbit hole have you gone down by accident when researching? I do research for my fics, how deep? I can give indications for divorce paperwork in the state of New York, even if you want or not to go scorch the earth with the “fault” rule, I can give an appropriate value to an apartment or a house in New York, Texas, Nashville, and San Francisco, and I can do taxes on those states too, and I know more about how high school classes work in the US than in my country, even when I went to those classes, and I’m from Santiago, Chile, you know, in South America, like, the last country of South America
17. How obsessively do you sit and stare at your fic after you’ve just posted and wait for feedback? I don’t, once I finish writing something, I run away, and watch anime for a few hours, or work (Yeah, sometimes I write on my lunch hour)
18. Do you have a WIP that you keep telling yourself you’ll eventually get back to, but deep down you know that’s probably a lie? I do apologize to “The Games we Play” I have no idea how I outlined your 26 chapters, but I’m still on chapter 2, and I’m sorry.
19. Do you edit your fics after you write them, or do you prefer to just hit post and run (because it’s someone else’s problem now)? Sometimes I do because sometimes, I write things wrong.
20. What’s your favorite part about the fanfiction writing process? That happiness I get when I’m in the Zone, and I write something that makes me say “Fuck, that was good”
21. What’s your least favorite part about the fanfiction writing process? I call it “The Deep White”, also known as writer’s block.
23. What’s your absolute favorite trope to write? I don’t write it anymore, because I was banned from a forum for writing it, but I love to write a bad ending, like “Killing the main character that I make you love for 30 chapters in the end” ending. I’m evil, I know, sue me.
24. What’s a trope that you’d like to never hear about as long as you live, let alone write? The “Good girl trying to change the bad boy,” I hate, apologies, I DESPISE that trope, it’s not cool, first, to be with someone abusive, and second, to try to change someone because you think you’re so almighty that you will change him (or her)  because of love, bs, I SAID BS.
25. Do you listen to music as you write? If possible, link your writing playlist. I do, and of course, it’s named “Writing Shiet” because my brain can only process decent titles for fics (Says the guy who once named a fic “No Title”) Here’s the link
26. What’s your biggest distraction when writing? Anime and Manga.
27. Do you like to give your readers some warning of what might be coming or just slap them in the face with content at random? I don’t usually do it, but when I do it, I do it cryptic, like “You might be surprised, but this, I called in the beginning.”
28. How do you deal with writing pressure (ie: pressure to update, negative comments, deadlines, etc)? I ignore it, If I can ignore good advice, ignore something that gives me more stress it’s an easy cake.
29. Have you ever written for an exchange or event of some kind? Which one(s)? Did you enjoy it? I did but didn’t submit, I wrote for 2019 fictoberfest on Tumblr, but never send a shit, I did enjoy it tho
30. Post a snippet from your current WIP without context - no more than 300 words. "Well, we're still not in Texas," he says, implying something not PG-13 at all. "My God, in what did I turn you?" Maya teases him before getting up and grab his hand, pulling him up. Lucas grins at her, "On," he replies, making Maya flirty hit his chest
31. Of the characters you write for, which is your favorite? Has that choice been swayed at all by your followers/readers’ reactions to certain ones? I love writing Lucas and Maya, and honestly don’t know if it helps me or not LOL.
32. Copy and paste your top three favorite lines/jokes/sentences you’ve ever written. What fics do they come from? 1 - From November to June CH3 A few hours later, Maya heard a knock on her door. She takes a peek through the magic eye on her door and saw Lucas. She grabs her phone and fastly texts him. She was able to hear the 'ding' of his phone, and spying through the magic eye she saw his reaction. "Ok, first of all, I'm not that, second, my mother is not that, and third, I'm not gonna put that there, that's fucking gross, and probably deadly if you consider the size of my hands." he defends himself. 2 - Ten Duel Commandments CH2 Maya smiles at him, "Since you're all Texan cowboy goody-good boy, I imagine you would relate more with the honorable Lord Stark," she teases him. "Says the woman who read three books in a row and texts me at four in the morning," he replies before pulling out his phone, "R+L=J," he teases her, reading her text. "That's private, asshole," Maya recriminates him. 3 - The One Who Stayed CH18 "Then, I have less... GET OFF ME FUCKER!" Maya screamed, punching the person who grabbed her arm, "Holy shit, Lucas." she says, looking at the person she just hit. "Noted, never approach to you by surprise." Lucas says on the floor, "Well, this makes me feel more confident about you being here alone." he says before start laughing.
33. What do you like writing better: one-shots or multi-chapter stuff? Multi-chapter, unless, it’s wedding fics because I love weddings.
34. How much of yourself and your life experiences do you put into your writing? What do you think your readers’ image of you is? None.
35. How much has writing fic changed your life? Not much, but has made me happier.
36. Are there any fics or fandoms you’re embarrassed to have written or been part of? The Glee Project Fandom.
37. Give an update on your current WIP - if you don’t have one, give a sneak peek to a title or idea that you have and would like to write. "Shawn called him, and he assures him that if you try something inappropriate, he has a shotgun," she adds, making Lucas's face go pale. "Well, guess like father, like son," he comments, making Maya show unexpected interest in his words.
38. What does your writing process look like? How chaotic is it on a scale of 1 (very tame) to 10 (you can’t handle this kind of chaos)? As I explained in the outline question, pretty tame if we count that I have my outline process numbered LOL.
39. What’s something about your writing that you pride yourself on? That I try to make it real, I try to make people feel something when they read.
41. What’s your most popular fic (with the most notes on Tumblr, most hits/kudos on ao3)? Tumblr? The One Who Stayed Fanfiction.net? Ten Duel Commandments
44. Rant about something writing-related. Please, let’s stop glorifying the “Bad Boy” character, he’s an asshole, allow me to explain, Bakugo, fucking asshole, he’s just a bully with an oversized ego, no, he’s not a tsundere, no, it’s not cute, that shit is abusive, and it really makes me want to punch people in their nose when the romanticize that bullshit.

prompt: "why wouldn't you tell me you're bi?" "why would I have?"
"Why wouldn't you tell me you're bi?"
"Why would I have?"
Morgan stares at Spencer, at a loss. "Because we're friends?" he suggests. "Because we've known each other for years?"
"Don't feel singled out," says Spencer. "It's not something I really tell people, as a general rule."
"But...don't you trust me?"
"Of course I trust you." Spencer frowns. "Why would you think I don't trust you? Just because I don't feel comfortable talking about my sexuality with you? That's private, Morgan. It's really none of your business."
"I just don't want you to feel like you can't tell me things."
"I know I can tell you things. I do trust you. And if there are things I feel comfortable telling you, I'll tell you. But until now, this hasn't been one of them. You've got to stop taking it so personally. I have complicated feelings about my sexuality, and I don't really like talking about it. That's my right."
"I know," Morgan sighs. "But I could've been trying to set you up with guys and girls this whole time, if I'd known."
"I'd rather you didn't try to set me up with anyone," Spencer says pointedly. "I can handle my own romantic life."
"Why don't you want my help?"
Spencer folds his arms across his chest. "I told you, my sexuality is complicated. Bi doesn't cover it all. And being set up with random people isn't what I'm looking for. I can take care of myself."
"I don't understand what makes it more complicated..."
"That sounds like a you problem," Spencer says, but later that afternoon Morgan receives an e-mail with a link to AVEN and some articles about the asexuality spectrum. Morgan dutifully reads through all of them and then shoots Spencer an e-mail back:
If you ever want to talk more about it, I'm here. Not because I feel entitled to your business - because I'm your friend and I'm here for you. If you don't feel comfortable talking to me about it, that's fine, too. Love you, pretty boy.

Hi just wondering why it's easier for you to write for bellamy and not Clarke? Just curious in how you connect with him <3
That’s more of a me problem than like the way the characters are written/presented problem.
I’ve always since I was a kid, related more to boy’s characters than girls (on very rare occasions girls), it’s just...Idk it probably sounds very weird since I love strong female characters, god I hate that expression if I have to be honest, cause all the wrong things are implied to it and not always what makes a woman strong and badass, but the thing is that I just...I guess I’m weird like that? I’ve related to fewer girls characters than I’ve related to the boys.
Strange Idk...I’m fucked up in many ways this is one of them.
And with Bellamy I don’t know I just relate to this inner struggle that he has, that good and bad kind of deal that I just...he wants to do the right thing but he is in the wrong circumstance, he loves so deeply so passionately but sometimes it gets overbearing or can be too much (in terms of protecting his sister).
I have the same questions he has-am I a monster? Am I horrible saying and doing the things that I do-I ask myself that all the time, even asked that myself today.
I am careful to let people in but when I do they mean the world to me like he was with Clarke and the rest of his people.
I can be reckless and do stupid stuff, end up in the wrong side believing it’s the right. I can be stubborn...so damn stubborn.
I have always been relating to him in the sense that he does not think of himself as deserving of this life, he does not know what to wish for, he has always lived for someone or something else, maybe sometimes living without knowing why he lives at all but pushing stubbornly nonetheless.
I relate to that too.
A lot of reasons why I love him is because he grows as a character. Something that people don’t talk about enough or even blatantly hate.
That was most prominent in the season 5 scenario where he stepped back and used his head as well as his heart and tried to be a Clarke person and people judged him because they didn’t want him to grow from a rebel, reckless person into a more full-grown character, into a person Clarke would be proud of (and yes I know season 5 was a mess but that was still the message).
I also hate that they don’t understand what’s happening to him now and WHY it is happening and how it is for me the most logical thing for him to go through-something that happened to other characters too like Monty for example or Octavia but yes while through a cult, the core of it is still there-he wants it to end, that violence, that fear, that horrible killing.
I love writing about him as a kid because I feel like his life is much like Taylor Swift’s song seven-I hit my peak at seven, cause he did, he was a child before that and then O was born and that was it.
I like thinking of his life as a flower cut off before it had even bloomed a tree cut down and then little tiny branches perking up but not enough, never enough, unfulfilled not truly complete, like his own life.
He’s an unfinished sentence that nobody knows if it was even supposed to be started. His life has no meaning, no purpose.
I’ve always wanted him to have one purpose-himself, not even Clarke and definitely not his sister, but himself.
I like thinking of him being a baby in his mom’s arms, how much he was loved, how much he was curious as he was growing up. I like thinking he had a father too, who loved him a lot but died before he could remember him.
In many ways his life is a tragedy for me. I’m not saying Clarke or anyone else’s is easy, no, it’s not but Clarke had a loving family at least until she was 18, she had a good life and then yes things fucked up but Bellamy’s tragedy is inborn, he carries sadness within him.
I guess that speaks to me.
I think it’s very true what Doucette told him-and yet there’s something missing inside you.
Yes, there is something missing, he’s never had so many things-a real childhood, a truly loving parent because I know aurora loved him but so much of his childhood and their relationship was tied to FEAR from the moment O was placed in his arms that it just ruined everything and he had been in canon denied true real love, a good relationship (
I’m excluding Clarke, I love bellarke but clarke has had l/xa, octavia has had lincoln, jasper has had maya, monty has had harper, murphy has had emori) and bellamy has had no one truly and i’m sorry but e/cho does not count. That’s not how you do it, how it you develop it. It’s not real, not in the sense all the couples I just pointed out were.
So I guess that’s it why I find it easier for him. I don’t have his life but I relate to some aspects of it, to this sadness, to this emptiness inside him, to this struggle to do the right thing, to thinking himself a monster, to making mistakes and then learning and then GROWING and then wanting peace. Just peace.
I just love him. I can’t explain it hah, I think a lot about him, meta in my head. Just love that boy. In a way I have not other characters. Do I judge him? Do I see his flaws? of course. His mistakes? Absolutely. I am not blind to that. But I think because I relate to them and try to figure them out that it is also why he’s so important to me.

20 first lines tag
tagged by my beloved writing buddy @clarionglass thanks bb!!
Rules: List the first lines of your last 20 stories (if you have less than 20, just list them all!). See if there are any patterns. Choose your favorite opening line. Then tag 10 other authors!
1. yarrow (unreleased) uh oh spoilers this is an unreleased franmaya fic from just this week. writing is going well, so it should be up Soon™
“Maya Fey is dreaming.”
2. look through you post-AAI1 fic i wrote last month!
“It’s way, way too late, and all is quiet.”
3. Kindred the big kahuna. My longform fic about Miles Edgeworth adopting a dog and all the shenengains therein (also narumitsu). I swear I’m coming back to you Pess... soon... T-T
“Phoenix. I’ve adopted a dog.”
4. sandglass (handle with care) a narumitsu fic where i burdened miles edgeworth with all my touch-starvation
“2:49 A.M. Miles knows the time precisely because he is awake, unfortunately, and staring at the alarm clock, situated just so on the bedside table because Phoenix still refuses to purchase a phone made in this century with a working alarm system.”
(i know that’s two lines sue me)
5. Miles Away baby’s first AA fic! i’m still so very fond of this one
“Phoenix can’t sleep.”
6. Tales of Dŵrwedd It’s a novel, baybee! This here is the book I wrote about my Witcher OC, Wynne, and how she met her later girlfriend Aurelie. 66k words. Writing this baby got me through quarantine and then some
“Ah, Novigrad. Sunset has the city all in silhouette, vivid orange and pink throwing the city into dramatic shadows, as I cluck to the grey mare beneath me and we pass underneath Oxenfurt Gate, turning north towards Temple Isle.”
7. Featherlight long-abandoned game grumps orchestra!AU
“When people complimented the beauty of a musician, it was always about their grace and poise, how they made something infinitely complex look as effortless and serene as a swan ghosting across water.”
8. Go Slow the first and last time i ever wrote smut.
“It all started the day Arin broke the internet.”
9. hit me with your rhythm stick just a GG drabble because i liked the song
“It’s Between Grumps, and they’ve eaten just slightly more sugar than is healthy. “
10. Stay another GG drabble
“It’s the shaking he notices first.”
11. Undertow first fic I ever published! GG soulmate AU
“Sometimes he catches himself admiring the way the tattoos intermingle on her shoulder, the mandala fading as it curves around the the familiar little pattern of bubbles that hide in the crook of her scarab's wing.”
That’s it for fic stuff. How about we do first lines of games I’ve released next?
12. When Aster Falls rohan and aster my beloveds
"Listen, you’re never going to believe any of this, but hear me out, okay?"
13. Were|House we released this last year for Halloween!! ft a stellar crew of amazing peeps including @clarionglass who tagged me in this in the first place lol
"I bet Halloween this year is gonna suck."
14. DemiDato: Monster Dating Show (Demo) Full game isn’t out yet, and was also co-written with two amazing friends anyway, so here’s the first line of the demo instead. leaving in the funky renpy code for authenticity
"Are we live? {w} We’re live? {w} Okay!"
Okay I’m out of stuff without going back into old roleplay and nobody needs to see that (remember circus!AU, clari?). I don’t really have a lot of WIPs because of How My Brain Is (and those that actually are abandoned are mostly brainstorming only).
Any patterns? I used to struggle a LOT with coming up with good first lines, and I notice as I’ve gotten older I’ve leaned hard into short, snappy, very in-media-res-y openings, instead of longer sentences. That, or dialogue, which works the same. Do I like it? Dunno, honestly, but that’s where I’m at.
Picking yarrow as my favourite opener even though it’s tied-shortest because it’s the newest shiniest baby, and the scene it leads into is killer and i’m very proud of it
Tags! gonna tag @pringlesaremydivision, all the discord gremlins who i know actually write things @spaghettiandpeas @daddywright @rainphee (and all the other gremlins if they want)
aand anyone else who sees this consider yourself tagged by me, if you want!

Novel Prep Tag
Tagged by @quilloftheclouds!
Rules: answer the questions and then tag as many writers as there are questions answered (or as many as you can) to spread the positivity! Even if these questions are not explicitly brought up in the novel, they are still good to keep in mind when writing.
Tagging @celestialbunnistories, @fair-folk-nonsense, @ambradaliat, @cataclysmic-writer, @alcego-writes and @kiyotaki! (Not tagging as many people as questions bc that’s just...so many. Anyway no pressure!!)
I’m doing this on ‘To Catch the Sea’, which I’m currently drafting!
FIRST LOOK
1. Describe your novel in 1-2 sentences (elevator pitch).
Adam is training to become a fully-fledged dragon, though he’s not that keen on dying for his king. He’s also smitten by chimera named Shay. The chimeras are (allegedly) a venomous tribe, born from storms and serpents and the most vicious of tides.
2. How long do you plan for your novel to be? (Is it a novella, single book, book series, etc.)
Listen, I’m really not sure. I keep thinking standalone novel, but ideas for a trilogy keep creepin’ in, so we’ll have to see how this draft goes and see where the plot takes me.
3. What is your novel’s aesthetic?
People standing on cliffs in long grass, looking out at the ocean. That’s pretty much it.
4. What other stories inspire your novel?
I guess this counts as a story, but Troye Sivan’s Blue Neighbourhood Trilogy is definitely one. I knew what Shay looked like before that trilogy even came out, but it turns out the love interest in these videos basically looks just like Shay, and is now his official faceclaim.
That’s the biggest one I can think of at the moment?? This story’s been around for a long time and some older versions of it were very *ahem* dystopian and took some inspiration from stuff like The Hunger Games and Divergent, but it’s changed so much since that those influences are pretty much gone.
5. Share 3+ images that give a feel for your novel.
Tumblr media
These are kind of like three locations in this WIP.
MAIN CHARACTER
6. Who is your protagonist?
His name is Adam Fletcher, he’s seventeen (I finally settled on an age wow), and he’s training to be a dragon! Basically, magical soldiers who are sent to the mainland to protect their king (also a dragon). It’s a big deal. He should be very proud. (He’s not)
7. Who is their closest ally?
He’s very close with his grandfather, and tells him everything. His bestest friend is Geoff, then he’s got some other close friends like Sara and Maya. Does the love of his life count as an ally?? If so, then Shay as well.
8. Who is their enemy?
I can’t tell you that, it’s a spoiler 😉 let’s just say he has some misconceptions about who his enemies are.
9. What do they want more than anything?
To bone be with Shay. He’s been crazy about him for some time. This want is muddled with other wants; he wants to be honest about who he is, what he thinks and what he wants, instead of putting on a mask for basically everyone except his grandpa.
10. Why can’t they have it?
Part fear, part societal constraints. It’s not a fun process to abandon the dragons, but he could do it if he decided to. He’s afraid to upset his parents, despite not being that close with them, and he’s just generally terrified of the fallout that might occur around him.
Also, everyone hates and fears the chimeras, and he’s not quite sure what to think of them. Best case scenario, a relationship with Shay would cause a lot of problems for both of them. Worst case, he really is in love with a monster who’ll inevitably kill him, like chimeras do.
11. What do they wrongly believe about themselves?
He generally underestimates his own strength, physically and emotionally. He can handle a lot more than he realised, but he doesn’t think too highly of himself.
12. Draw your protagonist! (Or share a description)
I can’t draw...soo Adam is around 6′4, a dark-skinned Black man (I found a chart on skin tones but it had...food descriptions, so we won’t go there) with a broad frame and brown eyes. I realised as I was writing he kind of resembles Thresh from The Hunger Games, so there’s one remaining tie I guess! They even have the same dimples.
He wears his hair in a buzz cut because it’s how his parents (especially his mother) like him to present himself, but he wants to stop cutting his hair and let it grow long enough to braid or dread it. But ‘twould take a long time, and he definitely wouldn’t get away with it.
PLOT POINTS
13. What is the internal conflict?
Will Adam be able to overcome the fears that tend to cripple him at the best of times? That’s the main internal conflict he has to deal with.
14. What is the external conflict?
Will Adam succeed in completing his training, or will he fail (and possibly die)? Will he be able to tell Shay how he feels, and even if he does, what then?
15. What is the worst thing that could happen to your protagonist?
It’s not original, but losing the people he loves would be the worst thing. He is especially afraid of death, but the deaths of his loved ones would be much worse.
16. What secret will be revealed that changes the course of the story?
I don’t want to say anything too specific, but Imma say that the true origins of the chimeras’ and dragons’ magic is a well-kept secret that gets revealed.
17. Do you know how it ends?
I do not. I mean, I know a couple of things. Adam and Shay are endgame. We’re not bullshitting here. As for the rest, a lot of it is up in the air at the moment.
BITS AND BOBS
18. What is the theme?
I’m bad at seeing my own themes. Self-love? Forbidden love? I’m sorry.
19. What is a recurring symbol?
Generally the sea is a big symbol, obviously. Also, wildflowers are everywhere.
20. Where is the story set? (Share a description!)
It’s kind of an alternative earth, but some of the specifics aren’t totally worked out yet. The precise location is this little series of islands off the mainland (none of which are named yet). Adam’s never been to the mainland, where the City of Fire and the Dragon King are.
21. Do you have any images or scenes in your mind already?
Yes, many. I’ve written a couple already!
22. What excited you about this story?
Mostly, finally getting to write this idiot’s love story. He’s been waiting for this for years! I’m excited Adam and Shay and their pals are finally in a world I’m invested and interested in, and I feel like it’s working now better than it has in any other version.
23. Tell us about your usual writing method!
I like to write in sprints with a timer, usually for 20 or 30 minutes. And I always have music playing; I have a lot of WIP playlists for that reason. I write in Scrivener.

How to be an Ally
 Discussions on Race Pt. 2
June 29, 2020
Day 1 of 7
Post with fixed links here!:
https://emerald-studies.tumblr.com/post/626271345488150528/how-to-be-an-ally
Reblog this one!
[ These are just some thoughts I have in my head about this topic, it isn’t meant to be a purely academic discussion. It’s meant to be a conversation to learn about another perspective. ]
Also sorry this one took longer than previous posts, I had to do a lot of research.
-
3.  Go to Rallies and Protests
